Suffocation In Into The Wild
Every May and December thousands of graduates take the step from University to the so called real world to showcase what they have learned in
the last three to five years. This can be a really exciting time for some and for others very intimidating. Think about it for the last 18 years people have
been telling you what to do at all times, this leads to minimal time being spend on thinking for one's self. This type of structured environment can be
detrimental. It brings upon a sense of suffocation, as they cannot freely express themselves. Different personalities cater to different environments and a
structured environment aligns well with them. On the other hand, some students get so burnt out that they seek to take the exact opposite approach. ...

The film Into the Wild is a based on Christopher McCandless, and what did in the early 90s. Upon graduating he left Georgia to head west to
Alaska. He was living in a state sine die, meaning that there was no planned course of action. He eventually died of poisoning after eating berries.
His journey lasted two years on the road and only made it a few months in Alaska. Chris grew up in a wealthy family, but without proper
communication, values, actions, and parenting it led him to escape in an extreme sense. Therefore, it only makes sense, as people seek pleasure and
avoid pain, as noted by Sigmund Freud, "We have no hesitation in assuming that the course taken by mental events is automatically regulated by the
pleasure principle. We believe, that is to say, that the course of those events is incurably set in motion by an unpleasurable tension, and that it takes a
direction such that its final outcome coincides with a lowering of that tension that is, with an avoidance of unpleasure or a production of pleasure." His
parent thought that wealth could fix anything, as do a lot of other people, but wealth will only get you so

Travellers Are Leaving Their Inhibitions At The Boarding Gate
Aussie travellers are leaving their inhibitions at the boarding gate, with over a third admitting to doing things on holiday that they would never do at
home. Shedding light on the shenanigans Aussies get up to, research conducted by Southern Cross Travel Insurance shows 39 per cent of travellers
took their tastebuds for a whirl, munching on bugs and insects, while over a third got their adrenalin pumping with cliff jumping, river tubing and
bungy jumping. Other wildcard behaviour included skipping the sun lounger for stripclubs, gambling, and late night swims. Some travellers even
brought home a special souvenir in the form of a new tattoo or piercing.

Modern Technology: The excessive Use of Technology
Due to the excessive use of technology by the people Technology causing harm to education, socializing, and parenting. Firstly, the children that spend
tremendous time with their devices forgetting about what is surrounding them. Secondly students who seek the advanced technology to find solutions
rather than spend the time to figure it out what may benefit them. Coupled with the parents who are too busy with the modern technology watching
their favorite shows forgetting all about their kids which is causing the parents to not pay enough attention to their children. Many people believe that
Technology has destroyed the ability to be more creative. Is this belief true about your society?
Children spending children spending extended period of time using their smart device preventing them from playing outside to experience new thing
and make new friends every day. According a Kaiser Foundation study conducted in 2010, children between the ages of eight and 18 spend an average
of 7 hours 38 minutes a day with digital media. This study shows that children are abusing the use of technology, instead of spending this enormous
number of hours doing something that will benefit them. Some others say that advanced technology is benefiting the children by making them learn
faster and making them smarter, but it's actually the complete opposite

Essay on Happiness and People
Psychologists have not located assured causes that lead people to well–being. David G. Myers in his article "The Funds, Friends, and Faith of Happy
People" published in the American Psychologist (2000) and Michael Wiederman in "Why It's So Hard to Be Happy" published in the Scientific
American Mind (2007), discuss the reasons which lead people to be happy, and the factors which contribute to unhappiness. Both authors concur that
two factors that might escort people to satisfaction are relationships and personality. Myers mentions that a correlation, such as need to belong,
marriage, and a friend, lead people to happiness since humans share their feelings with each other even if it is negative feelings. As a result, they keep

On the other hand, people who don't experience flow are not fully engaged in their present time which leads them to be unhappy and depressed
because they are worried about the future, or they are feeling too dreadful about the past. The result of that is that flow becomes one of the elements
that makes people satisfied. However, Myers and Wiederman also consent that wealth, achievement, and one aspect of inheritance, little voice, might
be obstacles to achieve happiness. Myers writes that money cannot buy happiness or bring it. Although people in poor countries are less happy than
people in rich countries, some rich people are not as satisfied as regular people in the same country, and some of them don't know happiness, whereas
a few of them are happy because they know how to gain it and how to spend it. Also, he compares people in the past and the present in the U.S. He
concludes that Americans in the past seems happier than Americans now though the economy has been increasing, so wealth cannot escort satisfaction.
According to Wiederman, accomplishment also may not lead to well–being since people whose goal is money will not be happy. That is because after
achieving their goal, they will compare themselves with those who are richer than them. Then despondency will be their feelings. Moreover, if their
goal is not money, and they are strong–linkers, another two situations may occur. He discusses that strong–linkers

One can also easily see that no other component follows this growth rate.
Memory, RAM and storage are getting cheaper. However, what is not happening is that the performance of the access time and decrease resp.
increasing at an exponential pace. Considering the technology of magnetic disk specifically we see that disk density has been improving by about
50% per year, almost quadrupling in three years. Access time has only improved by one–third in 10 years.
Super fast processors and huge memories have to be 'fed' and a system is only as fast as it's slowest component, currently the disk.

ThreadMark). Each have their strength and weaknesses, and it often works well to run both types.
Real–world benchmarks may be as simple as timing how long it takes to copy a file, or they may involve executing complex scripts that perform
functions in many different applications. The main advantage of these benchmarks is they measure performance using real applications. this same
advantage can also be a limitation, since the performance of one component may be artificially limited by another. For example, we may be interested
in disk performance, but a slow video accelerator will slow down a benchmark that has a high proportion of video content. This in turn could affect the
workload presented to the disk drives.
Why Benchmark results may not be what we expect
пЂ Mechanical Latencies
The single largest contributor to low performance is the disk drive mechanical overhead. The mechanical overhead consists of drive head seeks and
rotational latencies. Rotational latency is the time it takes for a sector on the disk media to rotate to the point under the read/write head. It is inversely
proportional to the rotational speed of the disk : the faster the disk spins, the shorter the rotational latency.
пЂ Software and Firmware Overheads
Software overhead is the time it takes for commands to be passed through the operating system and software drivers. Firmware overhead relates to the
time it takes for the host adapter and disk drive to process

The 's Reflection Of The Ancient Women
Queering Vivien's poem entails finding the elements of imitation, anonymity, and/or appropriation. Two of these elements, anonymity and imitation are
clear in Vivien's reflection of the ancient women on Lesbos in herself. Imitation provides Vivien with a means of growing in sexuality, a gaining of
knowledge of the women of Lesbos's ways. The ancient Lesbians work as a template, but suddenly become the same as the lesbians of Vivien'stime
referred to as "our" (18). The result of imitation is growing nearer toward the likeness of the ancient Lesbians. Vivien's body metaphorically becomes
"a reflecting mirror," taking up all aspects of the ancient Lesbians. Vivien and her lesbians go beyond queer imitation to a new form, the same form as
the ancient Lesbians. Vivien's group cannot be distinguished from the ancient Lesbians, since they all mirror one another. Imitation renders Vivien's
bodies queer and identical.
There is no singular body at any point only but "our" bodies. Anonymity then is also relevant to Vivien's poem. One cannot differentiate between the
present "our" bodies and ancient "their" bodies either. No difference exists between them, as they are mirror images of each other. The bodies in the
poem are queer as they are both anonymous and imitated, yet simultaneously the bodies transcend time. Bridging a long period of time (ancient Greece
to 19th centure Britain) means Vivien does not have a full picture of how these women of Lesbos lived. Imitating the past

In the poem of 'Half past Two' bye U.A Fanthrope, she explores the themes of childhood and its experience by using short, free flowing structures,
simple sentences, languages and most importantly time. This suggests that adults and children have different opinions on whatever they do. The
poem is structured in free verse to present poem in an unusual way, showing that the boy is still learning the rules of the school and time. The ideas
are expressed freely since free verse conveys sense of natural flow therefore laying out an easygoing pace. The poem starts with juxtapositions of 'Once

Vernon Scannellwas enlisted in the army when he was 18, and was involved in the famous battle of Normandy Landing. Although he hated his life as
a soldier, he continued to write poems about it and that experience affected the way he wrote this poem 'Hide and Seek'. This poem is written in
single stanza with free verse and no rhythm so he can choose which vocabularies, techniques to use for maximum effects. 'Hide and Seek' tries to show
the boy's breathless attempt to win the game. From this, we can see that children are very aggressive and enthusiastic when it comes to things that they
enjoy doing.
The languages used in this poem illustrates very tense and emotional atmosphere and therefore single stanza is appropriate. Unbroken sentences build
tension and as they boy waits for this "friends" to find him, a breathless moment is presented. Tone is very crucial in this poem as it shifts from
excitement and feeling of triumphant as to strong disappointment and

50 First Dates Film Analysis
According to the Atkinson–Shiffrin Theory, memory involves three related processes; Sensory memory, short–term memory, and long–term memory.
Together these processes provide the pathway for environmental information to be received by the senses and either put to use, store for later use, or
neglected altogether.
Sensory memory allows environmental information to be retained, which then stores brief sensory events such as sights, sounds, and tastes. Sensory
memory allows our brain to make quick reactions and judgements without having to wait on the information to be processed by conscious thoughts.
Short–term memory (STM) is a temporary storage system that processes incoming sensory memory. Short–term memory holds a small amount of
information, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are a number of causes of STM loss, some which are a caused due to medical conditions and others related to injuries or other outside forces.
In the film "50 First Dates," a man named Henry meets a woman named Lucy. Both Henry and Lucy enjoy each other's company, but approaching the
next day Lucy doesn't recognize him. Henry comes to realize that Lucy suffers from short–term memory loss and can't remember each individual day
after her car accident.
The film suggest that after Lucy's car accident she now suffers from anterograde amnesia. With anterograde amnesia a person cannot remember new
information but you can recall events that happened prior to injury. With amnesia the hippocampus is usually affected, which converts short–term
memories to long–term memories. In the film they send Lucy to a brain institute where she begins to teach art classes. She has no recollection of
Henry but she dreams and paints portraits of him. Henry puts together a film that Lucy is to watch every morning upon waking up, he explains her
condition and keeps her up to date as to where they are in their relationship. The movie doesn't suggest treatment for anterograde amnesia, but Henry
finds a way to cope and help Lucy cope with her

Stereotypes 'Perceptions In Meredith Brooks Bitch'
Who are you? It is a simple question but not easy to answer. The song by Meredith Brooks lyrics "Bitch" describes how I feel often.
"I'm a little bit of everything/ All rolled into one/ I'm a bitch, I'm a lover/ I'm a child, I'm a mother/ I'm a sinner, I'm a saint/ I do not feel ashamed/I'm

While I can relate to both ends of the scale on many things, I seek to find balance in everything in my life. I was the youngest of five children, with

I have learned that how I feel may not be always accurate, and that how others think of me is certainly subject to inaccuracy. Through this class I have

J Alfred Prufrock Tone
"The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock"
Paper Assignment – Close Reading
In T.S. Eliot's 1915 modernist poem "The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock", the overall mood and tone in the poem reflect the speaker's opinions of
the time it was written in. An interesting way to look at this poem is to assume that the author used the character of Alfred Prufrock to explore his
own attempt of trying to make sense of the rapidly changing, confusing, and gloomy world in which he lived. So, we can safely assume that trying
to make sense of the outside world is a recurring motif in this poem. This can be seen by looking at both the poem as a whole, as well as the quote
chosen for analysis.
By choosing to use nature imagery, such as "Combing the white hair of the waves blown back", the author depicts the speaker's need to retreat to
nature in order to seek a peaceful spot to reflect on his choices and try to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This evokes feelings of deep empathy in the reader by making him or her better understand Prufrock's state of mind at the moment. Moreover, this
entire stanza in which there is a beach and mermaids which are singing at each other rather than the speaker, has a very melancholic tone, which is in
compliance with the overall gloomy and melancholic tone of this poem. When the speaker says: "And indeed there will be time / To wonder, "Do I
dare?" and, "Do I dare?"/", we get a sense that the mysterious object of romantic interest he refers to does not actually know how the speaker feels
about them. We also get a sense that the speaker is anxious that if he, in fact, expresses his feelings, he might be rejected. The following verses are
linked to the speaker's fears of rejection "I have heard the mermaids singing, each to each. / I do not think they're singing at me.". With this, we
actually get a glimpse into the unconscious mind of the speaker. We

Symptoms And Symptoms Of Depression
When depression hits someone there is no telling how it will affect a person because it seems
like it has a different effect on everyone. There have only been a few times in my life when I can
honestly say that depression got the best of me and the symptoms pretty much sucked. The different
stages of this disorder always take a bad turn and tend to mess with people's minds. Sometimes people
can be stressed and not know it but the signs and symptoms are there and even if someone can see tell
there is not much a person can do until the person faces the fact that they are going through it. There
are questions to the classification of stress and that is to classify it as a disorder or as disease. There
were plenty of times when looking back at it I can honestly say that I remember someone being under
a depressive stage and for some reason not being able to tell there was anything wrong with the person.
It is very important to seek help when you are going through this even if it is not from a professional

One Art Poem Analysis
"One Art" by Elizabeth Bishop creates a vivid yet relatable spin on the outlook of losing things. Through describing everyday items and situations the
speaker will show the reader how to discover that loss is not something to fear.
The tone is set in the first stanza, "The art of losing isn't hard to master; / so many things seem filled with the intent / to be lost that their loss is no
disaster"(1–3). This conveys the image that losing is not as devastating as it initially feels, by rationalizing that things will not last for eternity.
In the second stanza, the lines "Lose something every day. Accept the fluster / of lost door keys, the hour badly spent" (4–5) show examples of how
losing is something common and the reader should learn to accept this and embrace the realization that things will be lost, even easily identifiable
items. By giving the reader something tangible to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And look! my last or / next–to–last, of three loved houses went" (10–11). This illustrates how things of any size may be lost.
The speaker continues in the fifth stanza by stating "I lost two cities, lovely ones. And, vaster, / some realms I owned, two rivers, a continent" (13–14).
This conjures the images of places that the speaker considers to be well–loved homes.
In the closing stanza, the lines "–––Even losing you (the joking voice, a gesture / I love) I shan't have lied. It's evident" (16–17). Through the use of
these lines, the speaker deduces that even an extremely significant loss must be acknowledged.
In conclusion, as the speaker progresses through the stanzas they seek to tell the reader it is okay to feel uncomfortable about the loss because the
reader will ultimately make it through the loss which is so burdening at any given time. The speaker clearly shows the reader by placing emphasis on
the word "disaster" (19) that losing is not the end of the

At the New Dawn Centre, Saul seeks to find a revelation about himself; however, Saul seems to be overwhelmed by anger and confusion. To
temporarily relieve these negative emotions, Saul finds solace when he explores the land outside of the New Dawn Centre. One night, Saul begins to
see the shape of a man moving towards him with a horse trailing behind him and Saul quickly realizes that it is his great–grandfather, Shabogeesick.
Shabogeesick is accompanied by many of Saul's direct family members: Benjamin, Mary, John, and Naomi. Saul states, "I was looking at a man I
knew was my great–grandfather...I saw my father, my mother. My brother...My grandmother. I wept at the sight of them...the old man lifted my
grandmother up onto the horses back. My family walked slowly into the depths of the fog, and I could hear them singing as they retreated"
(Wagamese 193). Shabogeesick appears to Saul at his breaking point. Prior to his time at the New Dawn Centre, Saul had abused alcohol to the point
of death and attempts to withdraw from alcohol with the help of his counsellor, Moses. At this point in the New Dawn Centre, Saul feels hopeless; he
was expecting that by writing down his story he would discover something powerful enough to heal him. When Shabogeesick appears with Saul's
deceased family, Saul is instantly

A Research On Target Behavior
Target Behavior:
Student speaks simultaneously to teacher as teacher is conducting an activity, without being asked by teacher for interjection or input. Student displays
tantrums that include behaviors such as screaming or speaking with an elevated tone, stomping feet on the ground, and throwing objects.
Hypothesis:
During large group activity Courtney is more likely to have a tantrum that includes behaviors such as screaming or speaking with an elevated tone,
stomping feet on the ground, and throwing objects in order to gain the teacher's and peer's attention, and avoid performing the cooperative task. Also,
the student speaks simultaneously as teacher is conducting an activity, without being asked by the teacher for interjection or input in the morning
message. The function of Courtney's behavior appears to be to gain attention. Whether the attention comes from the teacher or peers did not seem to
matter, both types of attention appeared to be reinforcing. Courtney's father is not in her life, and her grandmother is reported by the teacher as being
very involved in her child rearing. It appears that although her grandmother is involved, she is not getting attention from her mother and father, so
seeks it in the classroom among her peers and the teacher.
Behavioral Goals:
The student will only speak when she raises her hand or is asked for her input while the teacher is conducting an activity. Student will decrease tantrums
which include behaviors such as screaming or

How Does Charlie Change In Algernon
Charlie's intelligence and subsequent ability to use language, his personality and his relationships with other people dramatically change after he has
the operation. In the following essay I will prove how the operation affects Charlie's intelligence and subsequent ability to use language, his personality
and his relationships with other people.
Charlie's intelligence increases and he becomes optimistic and brave, while also being a little selfish and self–centered. It takes Charlie from
below–average intelligence to the level of a genius. His intelligence lets him take notice of the people around him, and how they react to the sudden
change in his intelligence. He learns to persevere. The storyline is very tragic and one has sympathy for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Social And Behavioral Theories Of Behavior Change
Introduction
According to the World Health Organization (W.H.O), Cardiovascular disease is the number one killer disease in the world, killing about 17.5 million
people and responsible for about thirty–one (31%) of global death in 2012. It is a major challenge for both the developed and the low and middle
income countries (W.H.O. 2016). In the United States, heart disease is also the foremost killer disease. It killed 614,398 people in 2014 which is about
twenty–three percent (23%) of the total death in the country (C.D.C. 2016). Heart attack affects about 750,000 every year and 550,000 of these had
their first episode while about 200,000 of them experienced their second episode. The C.D.C also reports that half of the sudden heart attacks occur
outside of hospital (C.D.C. 2016). The purpose of this article is to use Social and Behavioral Theories of behavior change to critically appraise a
technology application created to help in the resolution of heart attack and cardiovascular health issues through real time monitoring.

knowledge that you're not. Often, people find their way outside, submerging themselves in the wild, cultivated or not, in order to seek out that offered
comfort. Nick does in Earnest Hemingway's "Big Two–Hearted River". He finds comfort in the ability to just go through the motions, like how Mary
Oliver's "The Wild Geese" offers nature's unconditional acceptance. "Big Two–Hearted River" finds Nick in a place of depression, it seems, one where
he has no choice but to go through the motions, focus one task at a time, and drift through his life. He goes place to place, task to task, focusing solely

Personal Narrative-My Long-Term Goals
My long–term goals start by acquiring many jobs and having those jobs help me gain new skills and experience. I would like to grow as an individual
in the next few years. My goal is to finally ride in an airplane. I would like to explore new areas and learn about different cultures. I see myself
studying abroad and graduating from UC Merced. Have made so many friends and gained so much learning. My goal is to buy an expensive vehicle,
one that is comfortable and saves gas. I would really like to own my own house and live in a good neighborhood with a steady income job. I would like
to have a job that uses my skills and experience to help improve my working place. All these goals are between three to ten years to complete.

anxiety and jealousy from peers pricked at my skin every day. Despite all of the hardships I face, I still find and seek success, and I believe that I will

Dolores Hayden's The Power Of Place
Place makes memories cohere in complex ways. People's experiences of the urban landscape intertwine the sense of place and the politics of space,"
writes architectural historian Dolores Hayden. Hayden's work is concerned with how some identities are hidden when we represent or talk about
place through certain narratives, or fail to talk about the histories of places at all. In this selection from her book The Power of Place, she unearths
racialized, classed, and gendered accounts of place in order to reveal how those in privileged positions can bury the truth of occupation and inhabitance
in historical geographies at various scales. In one example, Hayden describes how Chinese migrants built much of the US railroad system in the 19th

Time Travel Heracliten
It is not uncommon to see instances of time travel in science fiction films or TV shows. However, the popularity of this theme in fictional stories does
not construe a general acceptance in the scientific community that it is feasible. In "The Case of Time Travel," Phil Dowe seeks to provide a rebuttal
to William Grey's "Troubles WithTime Travel," an article written to debunk the possibility of time travel. Dowe strives to repudiate what he calls
issues against time travel propounded by Grey. In particular, in "Troubles With Time Travel," Grey has raised four issues, namely no destinations,
double occupation, time paradox, and possibility restriction; nevertheless, according to Dowe, what Grey terms as observable objections to time travel
hypothesis can be explained or challenged by other ideas.
The Grey–Dowe Debate
Firstly, the no destinations objection, based on the Heracliten understanding of time, opines that there is no future to travel to ... Show more content on

Grey's claim that what one can do, whether in the past or future, is limited to a fixed set of facts is considered a fallacy because theoretically time
travel imposes no unusual restrictions (Dowe 448). The idea of possibility of restrictions is not well explained, but Dowe discredits an equally
baffling analogy that people are never able to do those things they would ordinarily do.
All in all, the core arguments by William Grey, no destinations, double occupation, time paradox, and possibility restriction, which seek to prove that
time travel is impossible, have rebuttals. However, in a bid to drum up support for his point of view, Dowe has offered his rejoinder without in–depth
explanations as to why Grey's ideas are preposterous. The outcome is the article that leaves a lot in abeyance, further muddling the discourse on time

Children and ADHD Essay
Give the fact that many children (and adults, for that matter exhibits some level of the symptoms of ADHD (i.e., inattention, impulsivity, or over
activity), what approach could be used to ensure that children are appropriately identified with ADHD?
The child who is showing some symptoms of ADHD should get the proper diagnoses and the parents should bring their child to a specialist. First of
all, the child would be seen by a pediatrician or a child psychologist. The specialist would gather information from everyone, the school, caregivers or
parents. The health care provider will look over the information and compare it to the regular children of the same age group.

Children who seek help right away will be able to live a normal life and score well academically.
Think of times you have observed preschool children. Did many of these students exhibit characteristics similar to those used to identify students with
ADHD? Have you observed a young child who exhibited these behaviors at such an extreme level that you thought he or she might be identified with
ADHD?
I have witnessed a child in my preschool class who has almost all the characteristics of Hyperactivity. The child fidgets when seated, she is sitting and
starts moving her hands back and forth, moving her waist from side to side. The teacher would tell her to relax and she would stop but 2 minutes later
she would begin again. Also, during group time everyone is seated in a circle, the teacher is talking and she would move from one spot to another
and all the teachers have to tell her several times to stay in one spot on the circle. The little girl has a hard time completing a task as well, we
would ask her to do something simple and she cannot stay seated for a long period of time. For example, all the children are sitting making a
picture of their family and Anaya just makes herself and we tell her "make your mom and dad" and she said "ok" and she makes 2 circles and said "I
am done". We ask her "what about the arms" (at this point she is squirming on the chair) and she said "they have arms".
In conclusion, Anaya shows symptoms of ADHD

My Long-Term Goal
My second goal specifically is to get a position in the human resources department with my current employer within the next six months. Gaining a
position in the human resources department puts me one step closer to achieving my long–term goal of becoming a human resource manager. The goal
is measurable because I plan to apply to any position I see posted in the human resources department that interest me and align with my professional
goals. The goal is attainable because I have access to our job postings website and I plan to check this website for updates at least twice per week.
This is a reasonable goal because I sometimes have downtime at work, which would allow me to use that time to search for new postings and even
apply. This goal is time–bound because I gave myself a deadline of six months to achieve it. With my updated resume, experience and now my current
course of study at Western Governors University, it makes me a desirable candidate for a position in HR.

The Baker Act Essay
We have covered a plethora of interesting topics that seem to grab my attention. However, one topic in particular peaked my interest more. The
topic that I chose to research more about is the abuse of the Baker Act. I hear stories all the time from my mother, who works as a middle school
guidance clerk, about middle schools kids getting baker acted often. This started making me think about if something bigger was going on. I
wondered if the system used the Baker Act for more then what is necessary. The Baker Act, also known as the Florida Mental Health Act, is the
process of involuntary detention of psychiatric patients for a limited period of time. This typically ranges from 48 to 72 hours, with 72 hours being
the maximum. Under the Florida Law if (1) there is reason to believe that a person has a mental illness, (2) the person does not agree to a voluntary
examination, and (3) without care the person may suffer from or be a danger to himself or others, then the involuntary examination can be initiated by
one of three ways: court order, a law enforcement officer, or a physician or a mental health professional. (Reference 1) A person may not be detained

person of liberty even if it is only 72 hours maximum. Florida allows for the commitment of a person against their will to institutions where they will
be examined and sometimes given psychotropic drugs to "calm" them down. Being committed and held at a mental institute or hospital is truly a denial

Suffocation In Into The Wild

  • 1. Suffocation In Into The Wild Every May and December thousands of graduates take the step from University to the so called real world to showcase what they have learned in the last three to five years. This can be a really exciting time for some and for others very intimidating. Think about it for the last 18 years people have been telling you what to do at all times, this leads to minimal time being spend on thinking for one's self. This type of structured environment can be detrimental. It brings upon a sense of suffocation, as they cannot freely express themselves. Different personalities cater to different environments and a structured environment aligns well with them. On the other hand, some students get so burnt out that they seek to take the exact opposite approach. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The film Into the Wild is a based on Christopher McCandless, and what did in the early 90s. Upon graduating he left Georgia to head west to Alaska. He was living in a state sine die, meaning that there was no planned course of action. He eventually died of poisoning after eating berries. His journey lasted two years on the road and only made it a few months in Alaska. Chris grew up in a wealthy family, but without proper communication, values, actions, and parenting it led him to escape in an extreme sense. Therefore, it only makes sense, as people seek pleasure and avoid pain, as noted by Sigmund Freud, "We have no hesitation in assuming that the course taken by mental events is automatically regulated by the pleasure principle. We believe, that is to say, that the course of those events is incurably set in motion by an unpleasurable tension, and that it takes a direction such that its final outcome coincides with a lowering of that tension that is, with an avoidance of unpleasure or a production of pleasure." His parent thought that wealth could fix anything, as do a lot of other people, but wealth will only get you so ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Travellers Are Leaving Their Inhibitions At The Boarding Gate Aussie travellers are leaving their inhibitions at the boarding gate, with over a third admitting to doing things on holiday that they would never do at home. Shedding light on the shenanigans Aussies get up to, research conducted by Southern Cross Travel Insurance shows 39 per cent of travellers took their tastebuds for a whirl, munching on bugs and insects, while over a third got their adrenalin pumping with cliff jumping, river tubing and bungy jumping. Other wildcard behaviour included skipping the sun lounger for stripclubs, gambling, and late night swims. Some travellers even brought home a special souvenir in the form of a new tattoo or piercing. "Holidays are a time travellers naturally let their guard down" she said. • 4. Essay on Happiness and People Psychologists have not located assured causes that lead people to well–being. David G. Myers in his article "The Funds, Friends, and Faith of Happy People" published in the American Psychologist (2000) and Michael Wiederman in "Why It's So Hard to Be Happy" published in the Scientific American Mind (2007), discuss the reasons which lead people to be happy, and the factors which contribute to unhappiness. Both authors concur that two factors that might escort people to satisfaction are relationships and personality. Myers mentions that a correlation, such as need to belong, marriage, and a friend, lead people to happiness since humans share their feelings with each other even if it is negative feelings. As a result, they keep the stress ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On the other hand, people who don't experience flow are not fully engaged in their present time which leads them to be unhappy and depressed because they are worried about the future, or they are feeling too dreadful about the past. The result of that is that flow becomes one of the elements that makes people satisfied. However, Myers and Wiederman also consent that wealth, achievement, and one aspect of inheritance, little voice, might be obstacles to achieve happiness. Myers writes that money cannot buy happiness or bring it. Although people in poor countries are less happy than people in rich countries, some rich people are not as satisfied as regular people in the same country, and some of them don't know happiness, whereas a few of them are happy because they know how to gain it and how to spend it. Also, he compares people in the past and the present in the U.S. He concludes that Americans in the past seems happier than Americans now though the economy has been increasing, so wealth cannot escort satisfaction. According to Wiederman, accomplishment also may not lead to well–being since people whose goal is money will not be happy. That is because after achieving their goal, they will compare themselves with those who are richer than them. Then despondency will be their feelings. Moreover, if their goal is not money, and they are strong–linkers, another two situations may occur. He discusses that strong–linkers ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, what is not happening is that the performance of the access time and decrease resp. increasing at an exponential pace. Considering the technology of magnetic disk specifically we see that disk density has been improving by about 50% per year, almost quadrupling in three years. Access time has only improved by one–third in 10 years. Super fast processors and huge memories have to be 'fed' and a system is only as fast as it's slowest component, currently the disk. Each have their strength and weaknesses, and it often works well to run both types. Real–world benchmarks may be as simple as timing how long it takes to copy a file, or they may involve executing complex scripts that perform functions in many different applications. The main advantage of these benchmarks is they measure performance using real applications. this same advantage can also be a limitation, since the performance of one component may be artificially limited by another. For example, we may be interested in disk performance, but a slow video accelerator will slow down a benchmark that has a high proportion of video content. This in turn could affect the workload presented to the disk drives. Why Benchmark results may not be what we expect пЂ Mechanical Latencies The single largest contributor to low performance is the disk drive mechanical overhead. The mechanical overhead consists of drive head seeks and rotational latencies. Rotational latency is the time it takes for a sector on the disk media to rotate to the point under the read/write head. It is inversely proportional to the rotational speed of the disk : the faster the disk spins, the shorter the rotational latency. пЂ Software and Firmware Overheads Software overhead is the time it takes for commands to be passed through the operating system and software drivers. • 6. The 's Reflection Of The Ancient Women Queering Vivien's poem entails finding the elements of imitation, anonymity, and/or appropriation. Two of these elements, anonymity and imitation are clear in Vivien's reflection of the ancient women on Lesbos in herself. Imitation provides Vivien with a means of growing in sexuality, a gaining of knowledge of the women of Lesbos's ways. The ancient Lesbians work as a template, but suddenly become the same as the lesbians of Vivien'stime referred to as "our" (18). The result of imitation is growing nearer toward the likeness of the ancient Lesbians. Vivien's body metaphorically becomes "a reflecting mirror," taking up all aspects of the ancient Lesbians. Vivien and her lesbians go beyond queer imitation to a new form, the same form as the ancient Lesbians. Vivien's group cannot be distinguished from the ancient Lesbians, since they all mirror one another. Imitation renders Vivien's bodies queer and identical. There is no singular body at any point only but "our" bodies. Anonymity then is also relevant to Vivien's poem. One cannot differentiate between the present "our" bodies and ancient "their" bodies either. No difference exists between them, as they are mirror images of each other. The bodies in the poem are queer as they are both anonymous and imitated, yet simultaneously the bodies transcend time. Bridging a long period of time (ancient Greece to 19th centure Britain) means Vivien does not have a full picture of how these women of Lesbos lived. Imitating the past ... In the poem of 'Half past Two' bye U.A Fanthrope, she explores the themes of childhood and its experience by using short, free flowing structures, simple sentences, languages and most importantly time. This suggests that adults and children have different opinions on whatever they do. The poem is structured in free verse to present poem in an unusual way, showing that the boy is still learning the rules of the school and time. This poem is written in single stanza with free verse and no rhythm so he can choose which vocabularies, techniques to use for maximum effects. 'Hide and Seek' tries to show the boy's breathless attempt to win the game. From this, we can see that children are very aggressive and enthusiastic when it comes to things that they enjoy doing. The languages used in this poem illustrates very tense and emotional atmosphere and therefore single stanza is appropriate. Together these processes provide the pathway for environmental information to be received by the senses and either put to use, store for later use, or neglected altogether. Sensory memory allows environmental information to be retained, which then stores brief sensory events such as sights, sounds, and tastes. Sensory memory allows our brain to make quick reactions and judgements without having to wait on the information to be processed by conscious thoughts. Alfred Prufrock", the overall mood and tone in the poem reflect the speaker's opinions of the time it was written in. An interesting way to look at this poem is to assume that the author used the character of Alfred Prufrock to explore his own attempt of trying to make sense of the rapidly changing, confusing, and gloomy world in which he lived. So, we can safely assume that trying to make sense of the outside world is a recurring motif in this poem. This can be seen by looking at both the poem as a whole, as well as the quote chosen for analysis. By choosing to use nature imagery, such as "Combing the white hair of the waves blown back", the author depicts the speaker's need to retreat to nature in order to seek a peaceful spot to reflect on his choices and try to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This evokes feelings of deep empathy in the reader by making him or her better understand Prufrock's state of mind at the moment. Moreover, this entire stanza in which there is a beach and mermaids which are singing at each other rather than the speaker, has a very melancholic tone, which is in compliance with the overall gloomy and melancholic tone of this poem. When the speaker says: "And indeed there will be time / To wonder, "Do I dare?" and, "Do I dare?"/", we get a sense that the mysterious object of romantic interest he refers to does not actually know how the speaker feels about them. We also get a sense that the speaker is anxious that if he, in fact, expresses his feelings, he might be rejected. The following verses are linked to the speaker's fears of rejection "I have heard the mermaids singing, each to each. / I do not think they're singing at me.". • 19. One Art Poem Analysis "One Art" by Elizabeth Bishop creates a vivid yet relatable spin on the outlook of losing things. Through describing everyday items and situations the speaker will show the reader how to discover that loss is not something to fear. The tone is set in the first stanza, "The art of losing isn't hard to master; / so many things seem filled with the intent / to be lost that their loss is no disaster"(1–3). This conveys the image that losing is not as devastating as it initially feels, by rationalizing that things will not last for eternity. In the second stanza, the lines "Lose something every day. Accept the fluster / of lost door keys, the hour badly spent" (4–5) show examples of how losing is something common and the reader should learn to accept this and embrace the realization that things will be lost, even easily identifiable items. Through the use of these lines, the speaker deduces that even an extremely significant loss must be acknowledged. In conclusion, as the speaker progresses through the stanzas they seek to tell the reader it is okay to feel uncomfortable about the loss because the reader will ultimately make it through the loss which is so burdening at any given time. The speaker clearly shows the reader by placing emphasis on the word "disaster" (19) that losing is not the end of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The idea of possibility of restrictions is not well explained, but Dowe discredits an equally baffling analogy that people are never able to do those things they would ordinarily do. All in all, the core arguments by William Grey, no destinations, double occupation, time paradox, and possibility restriction, which seek to prove that time travel is impossible, have rebuttals. However, in a bid to drum up support for his point of view, Dowe has offered his rejoinder without in–depth explanations as to why Grey's ideas are preposterous. The outcome is the article that leaves a lot in abeyance, further muddling the discourse on time ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Children and ADHD Essay Give the fact that many children (and adults, for that matter exhibits some level of the symptoms of ADHD (i.e., inattention, impulsivity, or over activity), what approach could be used to ensure that children are appropriately identified with ADHD? The child who is showing some symptoms of ADHD should get the proper diagnoses and the parents should bring their child to a specialist. First of all, the child would be seen by a pediatrician or a child psychologist. The specialist would gather information from everyone, the school, caregivers or parents. The health care provider will look over the information and compare it to the regular children of the same age group. ADHD is not easily diagnosed in adults; sometimes an adult doesn't ... Did many of these students exhibit characteristics similar to those used to identify students with ADHD? Have you observed a young child who exhibited these behaviors at such an extreme level that you thought he or she might be identified with ADHD? I have witnessed a child in my preschool class who has almost all the characteristics of Hyperactivity. The child fidgets when seated, she is sitting and starts moving her hands back and forth, moving her waist from side to side. The teacher would tell her to relax and she would stop but 2 minutes later she would begin again. Also, during group time everyone is seated in a circle, the teacher is talking and she would move from one spot to another and all the teachers have to tell her several times to stay in one spot on the circle. The little girl has a hard time completing a task as well, we would ask her to do something simple and she cannot stay seated for a long period of time. For example, all the children are sitting making a picture of their family and Anaya just makes herself and we tell her "make your mom and dad" and she said "ok" and she makes 2 circles and said "I am done". We ask her "what about the arms" (at this point she is squirming on the chair) and she said "they have arms". In conclusion, Anaya shows symptoms of ADHD ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. My Long-Term Goal My second goal specifically is to get a position in the human resources department with my current employer within the next six months. Gaining a position in the human resources department puts me one step closer to achieving my long–term goal of becoming a human resource manager. The goal is measurable because I plan to apply to any position I see posted in the human resources department that interest me and align with my professional goals. The goal is attainable because I have access to our job postings website and I plan to check this website for updates at least twice per week. This is a reasonable goal because I sometimes have downtime at work, which would allow me to use that time to search for new postings and even apply. This goal is time–bound because I gave myself a deadline of six months to achieve it. With my updated resume, experience and now my current course of study at Western Governors University, it makes me a desirable candidate for a position in HR. Actions to achieve my SMART goals ... I plan on scheduling my day accordingly as if I had a physical class to go to and use that time to study and complete assignments. Another action that I plan on taking toward this goal is to take my work with me everywhere, including vacations. I take time off regularly for family vacations and just quality family time but because of this challenging goal, I must sacrifice some of that time. The topic that I chose to research more about is the abuse of the Baker Act. I hear stories all the time from my mother, who works as a middle school guidance clerk, about middle schools kids getting baker acted often. This started making me think about if something bigger was going on. I wondered if the system used the Baker Act for more then what is necessary. The Baker Act, also known as the Florida Mental Health Act, is the process of involuntary detention of psychiatric patients for a limited period of time. This typically ranges from 48 to 72 hours, with 72 hours being the maximum. Under the Florida Law if (1) there is reason to believe that a person has a mental illness, (2) the person does not agree to a voluntary examination, and (3) without care the person may suffer from or be a danger to himself or others, then the involuntary examination can be initiated by one of three ways: court order, a law enforcement officer, or a physician or a mental health professional.
