Gaza Strip Controversy
It was ten years ago that Gaza Strip residents were forced out of their homes. From picturesque Gush
Katif, from Israeli settlements in the Gaza Strip and from four small settlements in the northern West
Bank. The ticket? Peace and renewed international support for Israel.
The action was emotional and controversial. The residents claimed that they provided an important
defense buffer against attacks by Palestinians. The Jews living in Gaza did not steal Palestinian land.
The settlers of Gush Katif took sand dunes that were never inhabited by the Arabs and with the sweat
of their brow turned them into a paradise and a financial powerhouse.
Still, the government of Prime Minister, Ariel Sharon, argued that remaining in Gaza was too costly ...

Before exiting through the gates of Kusufim Crossing, the head of Israel s mission in Gaza, Brigadier
General Aviv Kochavi said, The responsibility for whatever takes place inside falls upon the
[Palestinian] Authority. Later that evening, Major General Dan Harel signed a declaration nullifying
the 6 June 1967 decree, which had established Israeli military rule in Gaza. And so it was that Israel
publicly displayed to the world that its most recent 38 year presence in Gaza had come to an end.
The U.S. President at the time, George W Bush, complimented the plan as a positive step towards the
road map for peace. At a joint press conference with Ariel Sharon on April 11, 2005 he told the media,
I strongly support [Prime Minister Sharon s] courageous initiative to disengage from Gaza and part of

The Game Of Basketball Has Changed The Past
The game of basketball has had great players in the in the past. Consist of players from NBA and
around the world that play professionally. In my opinion the all time list: Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Wilt
Chamberlin, Bill Russell, Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Magic Johnson, and Larry
Bird. At this moment the NBA is seeing newer talent rising like Jimmy Butler, Anthony Davis, Russell
Westbrook, and Hassan Whiteside. However, the players that I will be talking about will be John Wall
and Stephen Curry. The ultimate point guards in the league right know. With the athleticism John
Wall, jumping out the gym. Wall was the slam dunk contest champion back in 2014. On the other
hand, we have Stephen Curry, one of the greatest shooters ever. Curry will make the defender look
silly and hit a thirty feet three like a normal shoot. With the talent both of this guys have I can talk
about them all day however, we are also going to mention how it all started, their childhood. We are
also going to take a look at what shoe endorsements each player has and how much it effects the
sneaker heads. Initially, John Wall was born in Raleigh, North Carolina on September 6, 1990.
Lacking the presence of Wall s father created a young guy that did not take adults telling him what to
do. Due to his dad s in and out of prison and death when Wall was only 8 years old. Wall s dad died of
liver cancer a month later when he was released from jail. With that being said, Wall s bad attitude

It has often been asserted that differences in the two candidates television personae accounted in part
for Kennedy s election victory. Some, however, dispute the significance of the televised 1960 debates,
suggesting that while visual cues undoubtedly have the potential to influence voter perceptions, the
nature and extent of the influence remain a matter of speculation (Pendell and Vancil P.54 1988).
Furthermore; Keyton (1989) points out that Debates involving candidates for the 1988 presidential
nomination carry a similar message. Results of a study of college students revealed the finding that the
winner of the 1988 debate was predicted by perceptions of the candidate who projected the strongest
personal image, the greatest credibility, the most logical arguments, and the strongest emotional
appeals. Furthermore, voter preferences expressed after a first debate were strong predictors of
eventual candidate choice. In some political campaigns, even the lack of debates can have
significance. George Bush s successful 1988 presidential campaign employed debate avoidance, a
reliance upon emotional appeals and ridicule, and a de emphasis of issues. Both of the major U.S.
political parties have used such strategies, considered to be departures from ethical behavior (Kelly
1990). Men and women react differently to the media analysis that generally follows political debates.

Comparing Ambiguity In Proof And Susan Glaspell s Tri
Through the struggles of everyday life, everyone attempts to establish a certain sense of order. Since
the dawn of humanity, the species has battled against the perpetual chaos that is nature itself. Men
especially, given history s mostly patriarchal structure, have strived for rule and order. Both David
Auburn s Proof, and Susan Glaspell s Trifles deal with certain women who go beyond what is
commonly known, beyond the predictable, and discover what most would not have even considered
while leaving the truth open ended. In Proof, there is an existing hierarchy of brilliant mathematical
minds, and Catherine is believed to have dissented from the known structure. Trifles involves a group

He concludes that Catherine s mathematical knowledge, despite her lack of formal education, must be
due to the fact that she has learned a lot from the years she spent living with her father, and in a way
she may have his genius. Yet, Catherine fears she may tread down the path of her father s eventual
madness and dementia. Everything from her coping of loss to her sister Claire s patronizing attitude
causes her to follow logical steps to the seemingly illogical conclusion of her genius coming hand in
hand with insanity. The abstract process is explored in an analysis of the play: In life, if not in math,
the axiomatic method does not provide a good tool for predicting the future. Personality traits or genes
are not axioms pointing to some inescapable conclusion at best, they re mental ticklers, worriers, and
warnings. Nevertheless, we see Catherine trying to prove or disprove to herself that she is doomed to
repeat her father s demise (Rockmore). The central mystery of Catherine s mental stability is the very
reason for the doubt

Similarities Between Deucalion And Lycaon
In a Greek version Deucalion is warned of the flood. He builds an ark and stuffs it with creatures.
Deucalion also sends a pigeon to search for land, and the bird returns with an olive branch. When he
completes the voyage he gives thanks, and takes advice from the gods on how to repopulate the Earth.
In a more colorful version, Zeus was angered by the extreme pride of the Pelasgians , the indigenous
inhabitants of the Aegean Sea region, so he decided to punish them. Lycaon was the king of Arcadia,
which was a part of the Peloponnese peninsula. It was an unspoiled, harmonious wilderness, thought
to be the home of Pan. To punish Zeus for his oppression, Lycaon offered a blood sacrifice. Arcas, a
son of Zeus, was placed upon the burning altar. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They chastised and rebuked Salih, whom they had once adored. The poor and needy of the community
became His only believers. This caused the others to mock His efforts even more. Salih asked that the
rich stop oppressing the poor, and adopt a more virtuous behavior. A few more people accepted His
words. Not surprisingly, most of them refused to heed His warning, and instead began to harass Him
to cause a miracle as proof of the Power of God. Salih kept telling them to look around and remember
the numerous miracles God had already bestowed upon them. He reminded His people of the
countless castles and palaces they had built, and of their rich farm fields, and technical superiority. He
also reminded them of the fate of the Ad, and how they were destroyed for their similar, unrepentant
sins. Produce a camel from the rocks , they shouted. Still, He exhorted them to worship One God, and
be thankful to the One from whom all blessings flow. There was still time to turn from idolatry to

Good morning sir and fellow students. Significant events are pivotal in enriching ones understanding
of their identity, which leads to an understanding of where they belong in the world. This is shown
through our prescribed text The Simple Gift composed by Steven Herrick; as well as Tim Winton s
The Turning . | Steven Herrick s free verse novel explores this value of events that shape a persons
identity and hence their sense of belonging in their world. The cause of his alienation appears to be
physical and psychological abuse from his father, lack of caring from his school and his run down
neglected neighbourhood with its deadbeat no hoper... downtrodden house in Longlands Rd,

Herrick induces us to feel empathy rather than antagonism to the protagonist. This is accomplished
through the intimate use of language, changing perspectives and personal anecdotes. | Growth in
maturity is shown as both Billy and Old Bill show signs of growth as they help each other. Billy s
growth is demonstrated as he becomes a different individual from the beginning of the narrative poem
showing positive thinking sure there s hope in the world...even for hobos like us . | Herrick also
represents this change through his use of natural imagery and pathetic fallacy; exemplified in the
poem Hobos like us , Sit in the sunshine . Old Bill s view of the world slowly starts to change, as the
protagonist reduces his consumption of alcohol and ventures to move on with his life. This is done
through Herrick s use of Motif throughout the novel of Old Bills alcoholic nature. | While Old Bill
demonstrates the symbolism of A Simple Gift when he gave his keys to his old home to Caitlin and
Billy symbolizing his final pivotal moment enriching Billy s, Caitlin s and Old Bill s understanding of
their identity, which leads to their understanding of where they belong in the world. | Tim Winton s
The Turning also explores this value of events that shape a persons identity and hence their sense of
belonging in their world. The short story The Turning tells the narrative of Raelene, which reveals the

We All Have Evil Inside
We All Have Evil Inside Nathaniel Hawthorne is best known for his use of allegorical figures in his
short stories. The use of allegories help its readers seek a hidden meaning of an object or character to
help them understand their significance to the story. In 1835, Hawthorne wrote the short story of
Young Goodman Brown where the reader is introduced to an innocent and pure couple who are all
about religion and against any evil worshippers. Faith and Goodman Brown will face a diabolic
journey to hell, and fight against the will of the evil which is nearly impossible for everyone in town
has walked through sin. I am writing about Young Goodman Brown because I am trying to show you
how Hawthorne relies on the allegorical figures of Faith, the old man, and Goodman Brown to explain
that everyone has evil within their own nature.
Faith plays an important role that functions as an allegorical figure throughout Goodman Brown s
diabolic journey. For example, at the beginning of the story, young Goodman Brown comes late to his
meeting with the old man. As a result, he excused himself by stating Faith kept me back (Hawthorne
pg. 387). Besides Faith being his wife s name, it is an allegory for religious faith. It is emphasized at
the beginning of the story that this couple comes from a Puritan s society. In addition, their religious
beliefs are strict, for they fear that any careless action may lead them to hell. In this scene, Goodman
Brown commits a careless mistake when he

Themes Of Osmosis Jones Monomyth
Osmosis Jones and the Monomyth Osmosis Jones tells the story of a white blood cell who plays the
role of a policeman inside a man named Frank. Teamwork is the central theme in Osmosis Jones, and
is developed through the monomyth. The monomyth or hero s journey shows the steps that most
movies go through, for example, The Matrix, Harry Potter, and Hunger Games. Most of these stories
pass through twelve specific steps. According to Joseph Campbell, in his book, The Hero With a
Thousand Faces, The monomyth is a structure that is common in many heroic stories, an outline that
has existed for millennia. This story follows the main steps within the monomyth, while each step
helps strengthen the theme. Osmosis Jones, the main protagonist, lives his everyday life as a rebellious
germ policeman in the mouth. The first step of the monomyth, or his call to adventure is when Frank,
the body he is trying to protect, contracts a deadly virus named Thrax. Thinking Thrax was just a
common cold Frank consumes a pill called Drixenol. Drixenol, also known as Drix, befriends Jones as
they are assigned partners on the cold case. Drix helps fulfill the second step of the monomyth, and
becomes Jones assistance. This is where the two join as one and become a team. Although Jones and
Drix go through a lot of small trials their first big trial, and the third step of the monomyth, is their
encounter with Thrax in the nose. While in Franks nose Thrax turns the pressure pods up which
destroys all the walls in his nostril. This causes a runny nose which Jones and Drix struggle to contain.
After the nose incident Jones and Drix work together to extract evidence from the old know it all
chicken pox influenza. With Jones smooth talking and Drix s big gun they use teamwork to beat the
truth out of the old timer. Knowing all about Thrax they set off to find and defeat the menacing virus.
Finally, they find Thrax at a new club on Franks forehead named The Zit. As they listen in on Thrax s
plan to kill Frank within forty eight hours they are discovered. Through teamwork they destroy The
Zit and all the germs within it including Thrax, or so they think. Thrax miraculously survives the
explosion and moves forward with his plan to kill Frank.

My Beloved Shelbie By Jane Austen
To My Beloved Shelbie, At first, I wanted to write you a love letter describing how I feel about you,
and what you mean to me, but I believe it is better if in addition to describing my feelings that I clear
up all our miscommunications as best I can. Please understand that we see some things differently, an
example being when you felt that I expected something out of you that was likely my fault for not
doing my best to communicate my feelings but I never want you to feel like I demand something from
you or that you owe me something, because you don t, and I would be the first to tell you to not
tolerate that from anyone. It is something that I have viewed as an absolutely despicable and immature
act and I would never consciously do that to you. I may just have gotten anxious about telling you
how I feel because I could not bare to keep it from you for my own sake, I could not bare to hide that I
love you. To quote Jane Austen In vain I have struggled. It will not do. My feelings will not be
repressed. You must allow me to tell you how ardently I admire and love you. And that s just it, it was
something I had to do and I did it in an absolutely cringeworthy manner for that I m sorry, I m also
sorry for any trouble or stress I may have caused you as I often caught myself after the fact realizing
that in an attempt to get you to like me ,in a purely platonic manner, I may have just said something
that was ridiculous and made me look like an idiot. And despite all of

Summary Of Hiroshima John Hersey
On August 6, 1945, the U.S. dropped the first atomic bomb, killing a hundred thousand people in
Hiroshima, Japan. In the book Hiroshima John Hersey tells the stories of six atomic bomb survivors
from the exact moment to the years following.
Reverend Mr. Kiyoshi Tanimoto was a Methodist pastor that on the day of the bombing jumped
between two large rocks for protection. He escaped with minimal wounds and went on a search for his
family towards the center of the city. Mr. Tanimoto felt ashamed of being uninjured while others were
either trapped, burned, or dead. After finding his wife and baby, they went their separate ways and for
the next five days Mr. Tanimoto aided the wounded in the Asano Park. He helped bring water to them
and ferried others across the river. On August 26th, Mr. Tanimoto fell ill from radiation sickness and

A Hero In Percy A Lightening Thief
Do you know what it s like to be a hero? A hero to you may be the superman in a comic book that
saves the girl from the bad guy. Or a hero can be someone that fought for what they believed in. A
hero can really just be the one main character in a story or in real life that makes an effort to make
everything right and helps everyone. If you ve ever met a hero like a soldier, a role model, or an
important person in your life you know that a hero is one that is noble and does the right things to help
others not only there selves. Being a hero is when you re selfless, brave, and humble. Heroes are the
characters that learn the most and do the most affective actions. There is always going to be a hero in
every story, movie, or real life scenario. A hero doesn t have to be the one who saves someone s life or
fights off evil and is always wearing a cape. A hero can be as simple as someone doing the right thing
not for themselves but for the good of someone else. Hero s choose to make the right choices even if it
s not to satisfy themselves and that can be shown in many ways. For example in the book Percy
Jackson A Lightening Thief the main character starts off being ... Show more content on

Heroes are the ones who step out and make their decision to try their best to help. A hero has to be

without being brave and valiant. If you re not brave you don t believe in yourself and at first heroes

Mise High Scene Analysis
3.3 Technique
Twin Peaks uses breaks of conventions of mise en scene frequently. In episode eight of season two,
several figures of the police force are lined up and the camera has a steady angle for minutes . Gordon
Cole walks from person to person, shaking their hands and thanking them for their great work. The
scene looks unnatural and the steady camera reinforces this impression. It looks like someone filmed a
boss from a company thanking his employees, which is what actually is happening: The director is
thanking his actors for good work. The scene is unnecessary for the plot and does not relate to
anything else during the story which is also an indicator that through the use of an unconventional

Lester Nygaard is chased by the police on a snowmobile, which is a common scene in action movies
such as James Bond. The picture follows the conventions of mise en scene, showing the fast vehicles
and the tension in the faces of the characters with cuts from many different camera angles. According
to the rules of mise en scene, a fast and action packed music would be fitting for such a chase. In its
place though, the filmmakers used a slow, melancholic and cautious music. Sound and action are in
contrast and the rules of mise en scene, which Sergei Eisenstein called synchronization of sound (The
Film Sense 1974: 69), are again contradicted. So, Fargo works with contrasts of expected events due
to certain compositions of mise en scene while Twin Peaks over stylizes scenes and lets the director
himself explain techniques of how a picture is composed. With those different approaches, both series

Temple University initiated to develop 35,000 seat football stadium with an estimated cost of $100
million in the campus area of Philadelphia (Clearing the Way for a Football Stadium. Philly.com). The
objective of this stakeholder analysis paper is to identify the most powerful and influential
stakeholders of Temple University stadium using three attributes power, legitimacy and urgency.
There are two divisions of stakeholders Primary and Secondary Stakeholders. According to Clarkson

between each other and without which the organization/Institute cannot survive. On the other hand,
Secondary stakeholders are those who don t have direct ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They don t have ownership or legal rights. Their interests are categorized in four different areas which
are career stability, student/school welfare, freedom of choice and the overall quality of education. If
Temple invest on developing a stadium and if it doesn t go well then it might affect on employees
career stability as they may redistribute employees to other departments. It could affect overall quality
of education/academics to Athletics. Also if the stadium moves in the campus, obviously there would
be a change in the culture hence it will affect student welfare. Through survey result, we found that
66% people are against the building of a new stadium. So, if I think about the freedom of choice, it
looks like most of the employees don t think it would be a good idea to build a new stadium because it
only going to waste money. Temple could provide money to develop community and invest on their
education system. There are two stakeholders who have strong relationships with each other. I think
that the board of trustees and the football program should work together as the project operation
would depend on their decision. TU doesn t have Legal responsibilities or Philanthropic obligation
towards their employees. However, they have Economic responsibilities. They need to think about the
infrastructure and the cost to develop the stadium. It could affect negatively on

Fear and Confusion in films Psycho and Carrie Essay
Fear and Confusion in films Psycho and Carrie
In horror films, there is always one scene that opens up the perceived realm of normality to that of fear
and confusion. Directors and authors alike use these scenes to show the change in the pace of the film.
In both the movie Psycho (1960) and Carrie (1976), shower scenes are used to mark this epic turning
point with sexuality, blood and voyeurism; the most important ingredients to horror.
The idea of sneaking around and peering into forbidden places gives just about everyone a thrill.
Voyeurism is used strongly in both Psycho and Carrie due to its ability to entice thrill in the viewer. In
Carrie, we start the scene by looking into a girls high ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We are then given an extreme close up of Norman s eye, staring wide into the room; the view we have
gives us the thrill of actually being there, watching Marion undress. This method of filming, giving the
audience the sight of the forbidden, adds thrill to the important scenes. Thrill only encourages us to
watch the movie more intently, on the edge of our seats.
Sexuality also adds a great deal of tension to the two scenes. We watch as Marion drops her robe to
the floor and steps gingerly into the shower. Once in the shower, we are given a point of view shot of
the showerhead, a huge showerhead covering her entire body with clean, warm water, cleansing her of
her sins in an almost baptismal way. We are allowed only collarbone up shots of her in the shower,
only hints to her nakedness. We can only imagine what she looks like, giving the audience the same
thoughts that raced through Norman s mind as he looked in on her through the peephole. Carrie is also
highly sexualized, more so given the fact that more nudity was allowed with the changing times. As
we gaze at the different close up camera shots of her body, we watch as she reaches for the soap. The
audience watches as she rubs soap all over her body in slow motion, her face complacent in both
peace and pleasure. Carrie then begins to rub her breasts and her inner thigh in a very

Keep An Open Mind: For continuous improvement of a group/division of a company, the leader of an
organization must be open to new ideas. Ask for opinions and feedback from both customers and team
members and your group/company will continue to grow.
Meet Obligations: Regardless of the circumstances, do everything in your power to gain the trust of
past customers and clients, particularly if something has gone awry. Reclaim any lost business by
honoring all commitments and obligations.
Establish action development teams: Action development implements the organization s strategy while
developing leadership culture and talent. Teams of senior and high potential leaders tackle mission
critical, complex challenges identified by the business strategy. They learn to work across boundaries,
with explicit sponsorship and coaching, while developing new and better ways of working together.
Become Community Involved: Remain involved in community related issues and activities, thereby
demonstrating that your business is a responsible community contributor. In other words, stay
involved.

the sole intent of stalking Joe, made an anonymous twitter account to continue his harassment. [5] As
technology has advanced, laws have been introduced to protect society, for instance the interception
and disclosure of messages as part of the wireless telegraphy act 2006, section 48[6]. So why would
you not regulate social media, a new technology phenomena with the potential to cause harm? We
could agree that social media should be regulated to avoid trolling incidents like the ones mentioned.
However, the Leveson report, a hotly debated topic at present, is trying to introduce regulations on the
press, with no guidelines on how to deal with social media. Daily Mail online editor Martin Clarke
says it has destroyed the ability of governments, companies and individuals to control the flow of

Integrity In The Military
My definition of Integrity is consistency of character. Character can vary therefore the choices a
person makes contributes to their personal integrity. Due to my military background, I believe deeply
in the traditions of the military where they instill Respect, Loyalty, Selfless Service, Duty, Honor,
Commitment Integrity, and Personal Courage. This means integrity is a personal choice that an
individual makes to do as they say . Integrity is learned by adhering to personal and moral principles.
Integrity requires that you are consistently loyal to others. As your integrity within your relationships
develop others place more trust in you. Using my definition of integrity, I will analyze the following

Instead of taking a positive approach to encouragement he took the negative. The analogy of you get
more bees with honey than you do with vinegar comes to mind. The theme of the show however is not
one of encouragement but derogatory and inflammatory comments and putting people down not
raising them up. Personally I believe this sort of behavior is unfortunately the norm in these types of
public places. Everyone is trying to get want they want done but have no regard for anyone else.
Likely the general public would rather walk on you than pick you up and encourage you to do better.
Unfortunately this is the state of affairs we are in where in general people don t assume positive intent
and think that everyone is trying to get over on them and take advantage. It seems only in time of dyer
need does the public band together and push as one force. E)Francis and Spangler have an interesting
situation where either of them cannot be seen as the loser . They both engage in a match of billiards
where they both are trying to throw the game more dramatically than the other. Francis and Spangler
go back and forth each losing and each more dramatic than the other with trick shots and low

Essay The Cheese and the Worms
The Danger of Speaking Out
Carlo Ginzburg s The Cheese and the Worms: The Cosmos of a Sixteenth Century Miller explores the
trials of supposed heretic Domenico Scandella. Better known as Menocchio, The Cheese and the
Worms details his extensive beliefs about mistruths in religion and is written as a micro history of the
events of his trial. At a time when religion and God were thought of as pure fact, Menocchio doubted
their supreme existence and this lead to his death by burning. When reviewing Ginzburg s account of
the trials, the sources of his many ideas come to light and these ideas show that the Catholic Church
and its members were scared the most by Menocchio s ideas about the origins of earth. Although a
miller by trade, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, Menocchio attacked a very integral part of Catholicism with force, thus making his remarks
appear very dangerous to the foundation of the Catholic Church. Despite many warnings from his
council, such as his lawyer telling him to, tell them what they want to know (Ginzburg, 5), Menocchio
was a free spirit and wanted to speak his mind. While telling the court of his many thoughts, the
origins of these, at the time, very radical ideas were unknown. Although the court documents prove
that Menocchio had read many religious books, including an unknown book thought to be the Koran,
poems and other resources, it was unlikely that he came up with all of his ideas from one single
source. Menocchio s ideas were more of a melting pot of various sources that had culminated in many
discontinuous and contradictory ideas. Menocchio drew from as many as 11 sources, most likely
more, that led to his conclusions about the origins of earth as well as what he thought were errors in
the religion. It is likely that no single source led to his thoughts on the Genesis. It is more likely that
Menocchio compounded oral history, The Bible and likely other sources to create his milk and cheese
origins of the earth theory. This multitude of sources compounded with the massive amounts of
information that came along with so many sources led to many contradictory ideas seen during his
trials. This, combined with his heretical ideas, lead to his ultimate

The Positive And Social Changes During The Industrial...
Imagine waking up at 4:30 in the morning and working until 9:00 at night starting at the age of 10
every single day until you die in your 20s from illness. This was the reality for the thousands of
workers during the Industrial Revolution, a time of innovation spanning the 18th and 19th centuries,
which brought significant changes to society. Changes during this time impacted society in both
positive and negative ways. While the Industrial Revolution created conveniences and comforts for
some people in society, the costs outweighed the benefits because people suffered tremendously under
the burden of such rapid technological growth.
Filthy living conditions in industrial cities harmed the inhabitants. Due to the rapid growth of
industrialization, cities experienced a population increase of a few hundred thousand every few
decades as people looked for work. (Document 14) The crowded conditions could not properly
support so many people. In 1829, an English poet named Robert Southey described the British city of
Manchester by saying Imagine this multitude crowded together in narrow streets, the houses all built
of brick and blackened with smoke: frequent buildings among them as large as convents, without their
antiquity, without their beauty, without their holiness. Southey goes on to say how work surpassed
even the importance of the church. [W]hen the bell rings, it is to call the wretches to work instead of
their prayers. (Document 16) Witness accounts of the conditions

NUTRITIONAL STATUS OF HEARING IMPAIRED (DEAF) ADOLESCENTS Abstract
Health status of a population is a significant indicator of human development. Like mortality,
disability being a potential measure of health status of population has not received much attention in
research particularly in the developing countries. Hearing impairment refers to both complete and
partial loss of the ability to hear and research in the area of the health and nutritional status of such a
population remains largely unexplored in India. A school for the hearing impaired adolescent boys
girls in the age group of 10 19 years was chosen as the site for the study.101hearing impaired subjects
who were in the age group10 19 years were enrolled for the study. A pre tested questionnaire was
filled by the researcher in coordination with a sign language interpreter to elicit background
information and socio demographic status. For anthropometric measurements their heights and
weights were taken. For hemoglobin estimations,5ml sample of venous blood was obtained from each
subject for laboratory analysis. The subjects who were deaf by birth were 84.2% and the rest were due

Introduction
Keurig, Inc. was founded on excellence , which is the Dutch meaning of its name, and the innovative
principle of allowing consumers to be able to make a single excellent cup of coffee whenever they
wanted it at home or work with their K cup single cup brewing system. The Keurig system was such a
hit in offices that the company knew the next step was to position themselves to sell units to
individuals for use in their homes. At home coffee brewers were always faced with two things loose
coffee grounds to clean up and coffee that never quite tasted right. The Keurig system would eliminate
both of those issues for the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The system allows consumers to buy a variety of coffee and make a cup of coffee that has the quality
like the one you would buy in a gourmet coffee house for upwards of $3 to $5. Based on the surveys
and focus groups that had been conducted people were looking for convenience, minimal clean up,
and great taste. Keurig made its decision to promote the system based on those factors and with units
succeeding in local businesses now was the time to strike, while the iron is hot , a large percentage of
survey takers said they would gladly buy the units that were proposed based on the information they
were given.
Pricing strategies
The successful market of Starbucks and other successful coffee houses has made it okay to spend
$1.50 or more for a good quality coffee and even more for specialty drinks. Considering the trend in
successful coffee houses and the cost of the drinks, it opened the door for Keurig to produce high
quality low maintenance units for the home and office. Keurig conducted multiple market research
polls to reach its price points, ensuring that once units are released they are something that customers
will buy without hesitation. Price points were anywhere in the range of $199 to $299 (Cravens amp;

Analysis Of The Poem Caged Bird
In the poem Caged Bird by Maya Angelou about freedom, emotions, feelings, and depression. In the
poem she wrote A free bird leaps on the back of the wind and floats downstream till the current ends
and dips his wing in the orange sun rays and dares to claim the sky (1 5). There is nothing for the bird
to do anything better than freedom. Because any cages, even the gold, can be captive. It s meant, like a
beautiful girl, who doesn t think about love, but she is thinking only about money and when she got it,
and she married, she cannot be happy in the huge house, with gold furniture, big pool, expensive cars
and without love because this girl just a doll for her husband. She lives in the gold cage without
freedom. First, there is no other bird next to anyone, and with no one to bet on the song. Secondly, the
bird will not be able to spread wings its wide and fly far. Thirdly, independence, life and destiny are
completely lost in the hands of the owner of the cage. There is such a state of the human soul when
one wants to live and love, to fly to heaven, to laugh and sing, and to give his joy to all who are near.
Such a feeling is called happiness. But, apparently, no one can give an accurate definition of this
concept, as no one has yet to determine exactly what is happiness. Some people are trying to be happy
and from time immemorial trying to figure out how to achieve it. The fact is that happiness is different
for each person, depending on the personality of the person. And this, in turn, depends on education,
environment, living conditions and many other factors. However at the poem But a bird that stalks
down his narrow cage can seldom see through his bars of rage, his wings are clipped and his feet are
tied so he opens his throat to sing (10) Actually for me, all my life was a cage has been about getting
an education. My dream was attend a medical university. I graduated high school in Ukraine and after
school, I got married and I didn t have the choice to study. My mom said at that time, I have money
only on one event wedding or university , my choice was a wedding because my husband didn t want

The study draws economic analogies for Heisenberg s Uncertainty principle and concentrates on the
17 largest Investment Banks and the 10 largest Mutual Funds. It tries to quantify the uncertainty and
lists the economic mass of every institution from among the two groups and the average economic
masses of each group as well. The study was restricted to publically listed Investment Banks and
Mutual Funds and the model was not applicable to privately held and boutique banks and also wasn t
applicable to hedge funds and other private funds which did not report their Net Asset Value Returns.
According to the findings, the economic mass was highest for Goldman Sachs while Toronto Domino
Bank shows the least economic mass. When it comes to Mutual Funds, Pimco the world s largest
mutual fund had the lowest economic mass; the exposure to the crisis could be the reason behind this.
The American Funds Growth Fund of America has the highest economic mass. This study has been
able to show that the Heisenberg s Uncertainty Principle has implications for financial institutions. For
future research, one could look into applying the model for privately held Financial Institutions and
those funds which do not report their returns like Hedge Funds.

Physical Theatre Performance Analysation
Audiences today want a real experience in their live performance, because they can get great script
based entertainment at home, through various new media sources. Traditional theatre, which appeals
on a mental, and hopefully also emotional level, has not been enough to compete with other media,
and audiences have been declining. Physical theatre, by contrast appeals to the audience on a physical
and emotional level, providing a much more immediate experience than traditional theatre ~

The audience then became lost and frightened as there were no signs leading them to their next
destination, once again forcing them to partake in the performance. This physicalisation not only
successfully involved the contemporary audience, but demonstrated the necessity of physical
composition to give audiences that real experience. This use of physical composition provided
immediate reaction and emotional expression through action and contrast. These elements ultimately
enhanced the mood and symbolism of the performance, allowing audiences to not only partake in the
production on an intimate level but also on an emotional level. Another way in which mood and
symbol can be created is through the use of complicité.
Another element used to enhance the physical theatre experience is complicité. This dramatic
language refers to the use of an ensemble. In Dante s Inferno the benefit of an ensemble is
demonstrated throughout the whole course of the production as it provided bigger representations and
enhanced the powerful concepts. In particular, the violent circle representing murder, death and the
element of fire, excelled in the utilisation of an ensemble. The audience were guided into a large hall
where approximately thirty ensemble members were positioned around the architecture. The ensemble
worked together, manipulating their bodies into unnatural, unsettling postures. Through precise

Monsanto White Gold Pet Child
Webster s Dictionary definition of profit is the compensation accruing to entrepreneurs for the
assumption of risk in business enterprise as distinguished from wages or rent. Businesses run off of
risk in order to make huge amounts of money. They trust the consumers to buy their products or
services. They trust their suppliers with materials they need. They also trust the efficiency of their
production line. Some businesses are so obsessed with the profits they gain that many people s lives

Ethnography is a strategy of analysis coming from anthropology and sociology where the researcher

Machiavelli vs Islamic Political Thought
Machiavelli vs Islamic Political Thought Niccolo Machiavelli was a political realist. He thought there
were certain skills and characteristics needed to become a political ruler. In his work, The Prince,
Machiavelli gives advice on how to be a successful prince, or ruler. Successful is partly based on how
powerful a ruler was during his lifetime (reign), but largely based on how much the prince affected the
lives, through laws or societal norms, of future generations. Machiavelli was mainly interested in
attaining and keeping political power. He believed people were inherently selfish and would, by
nature, not respect the law or work for the common good, without civic virtues. The only way to
‘control these human urges was to instill ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Regardless of how good a ruler Borgia was though, when the time came to install a new pope and it
wasn t his father, Borgia fell short and was no longer the ruler. While Machiavelli seemed to put no
stock in the role of the citizen in determining a ruler, he thought rulers could protect their power by
evoking the love of their people. But even this isn t enough all the time, because of the question
always asked by citizens of its government, what have you done for me lately. The ruler must protect
the citizens property, prosperity, family, and well being. For people to lead happy, full lives, they must
be allowed to do what they want, within the guidelines of a state. But this is a cycle easier to maintain,
than to begin. For people to do as they wish, there must be guidelines in place, but for guidelines to be
established, people have to know what they want to do and what they are unable to do. Here is the
reason governments were built in the first place. The group of people chose someone to establish
guidelines, because people wanted more than they had. This is the real purpose of a ruler, to help
establish a society. Machiavelli was consumed with rulers having and keeping power, by whatever
force necessary. This seems to contradict what he is saying about the common good and civic virtues.
If the ruler is only interested in power, what care would he have for the people? None, it seems to me.
According to Ian Johnston, The Prince was more than just a feeble

save the banks. During his first hundred days as president, FDR ordered all banks to closed to stop
people from withdrawing money from the banks, until congress meeting into special session. On
March 9 congress passed Roosevelt s Emergency Banking Act, in which recognized the banks and

  • 2. Gaza Strip Controversy It was ten years ago that Gaza Strip residents were forced out of their homes. From picturesque Gush Katif, from Israeli settlements in the Gaza Strip and from four small settlements in the northern West Bank. The ticket? Peace and renewed international support for Israel. The action was emotional and controversial. The residents claimed that they provided an important defense buffer against attacks by Palestinians. The Jews living in Gaza did not steal Palestinian land. The settlers of Gush Katif took sand dunes that were never inhabited by the Arabs and with the sweat of their brow turned them into a paradise and a financial powerhouse. Still, the government of Prime Minister, Ariel Sharon, argued that remaining in Gaza was too costly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Before exiting through the gates of Kusufim Crossing, the head of Israel s mission in Gaza, Brigadier General Aviv Kochavi said, The responsibility for whatever takes place inside falls upon the [Palestinian] Authority. Later that evening, Major General Dan Harel signed a declaration nullifying the 6 June 1967 decree, which had established Israeli military rule in Gaza. And so it was that Israel publicly displayed to the world that its most recent 38 year presence in Gaza had come to an end. The U.S. President at the time, George W Bush, complimented the plan as a positive step towards the road map for peace. At a joint press conference with Ariel Sharon on April 11, 2005 he told the media, I strongly support [Prime Minister Sharon s] courageous initiative to disengage from Gaza and part of the West Bank. The Prime Minister is willing to coordinate the implementation of the disengagement plan with the Palestinians. I urge the Palestinian leadership to accept his offer. By working together, Israelis and Palestinians can lay the groundwork for a peaceful ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Game Of Basketball Has Changed The Past The game of basketball has had great players in the in the past. Consist of players from NBA and around the world that play professionally. In my opinion the all time list: Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Wilt Chamberlin, Bill Russell, Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Magic Johnson, and Larry Bird. At this moment the NBA is seeing newer talent rising like Jimmy Butler, Anthony Davis, Russell Westbrook, and Hassan Whiteside. However, the players that I will be talking about will be John Wall and Stephen Curry. The ultimate point guards in the league right know. With the athleticism John Wall, jumping out the gym. Wall was the slam dunk contest champion back in 2014. On the other hand, we have Stephen Curry, one of the greatest shooters ever. Curry will make the defender look silly and hit a thirty feet three like a normal shoot. With the talent both of this guys have I can talk about them all day however, we are also going to mention how it all started, their childhood. We are also going to take a look at what shoe endorsements each player has and how much it effects the sneaker heads. Initially, John Wall was born in Raleigh, North Carolina on September 6, 1990. Lacking the presence of Wall s father created a young guy that did not take adults telling him what to do. Due to his dad s in and out of prison and death when Wall was only 8 years old. Wall s dad died of liver cancer a month later when he was released from jail. With that being said, Wall s bad attitude throughout ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It has often been asserted that differences in the two candidates television personae accounted in part for Kennedy s election victory. Some, however, dispute the significance of the televised 1960 debates, suggesting that while visual cues undoubtedly have the potential to influence voter perceptions, the nature and extent of the influence remain a matter of speculation (Pendell and Vancil P.54 1988). Furthermore; Keyton (1989) points out that Debates involving candidates for the 1988 presidential nomination carry a similar message. Results of a study of college students revealed the finding that the winner of the 1988 debate was predicted by perceptions of the candidate who projected the strongest personal image, the greatest credibility, the most logical arguments, and the strongest emotional appeals. Furthermore, voter preferences expressed after a first debate were strong predictors of eventual candidate choice. In some political campaigns, even the lack of debates can have significance. George Bush s successful 1988 presidential campaign employed debate avoidance, a reliance upon emotional appeals and ridicule, and a de emphasis of issues. Both of the major U.S. political parties have used such strategies, considered to be departures from ethical behavior (Kelly 1990). Men and women react differently to the media analysis that generally follows political debates. A study conducted at the University of Florida during the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Comparing Ambiguity In Proof And Susan Glaspell s Tri Through the struggles of everyday life, everyone attempts to establish a certain sense of order. Since the dawn of humanity, the species has battled against the perpetual chaos that is nature itself. Men especially, given history s mostly patriarchal structure, have strived for rule and order. Both David Auburn s Proof, and Susan Glaspell s Trifles deal with certain women who go beyond what is commonly known, beyond the predictable, and discover what most would not have even considered while leaving the truth open ended. In Proof, there is an existing hierarchy of brilliant mathematical minds, and Catherine is believed to have dissented from the known structure. Trifles involves a group of women who use unconventional methods to unveil clues ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He concludes that Catherine s mathematical knowledge, despite her lack of formal education, must be due to the fact that she has learned a lot from the years she spent living with her father, and in a way she may have his genius. Yet, Catherine fears she may tread down the path of her father s eventual madness and dementia. Everything from her coping of loss to her sister Claire s patronizing attitude causes her to follow logical steps to the seemingly illogical conclusion of her genius coming hand in hand with insanity. The abstract process is explored in an analysis of the play: In life, if not in math, the axiomatic method does not provide a good tool for predicting the future. Personality traits or genes are not axioms pointing to some inescapable conclusion at best, they re mental ticklers, worriers, and warnings. Nevertheless, we see Catherine trying to prove or disprove to herself that she is doomed to repeat her father s demise (Rockmore). The central mystery of Catherine s mental stability is the very reason for the doubt ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Similarities Between Deucalion And Lycaon In a Greek version Deucalion is warned of the flood. He builds an ark and stuffs it with creatures. Deucalion also sends a pigeon to search for land, and the bird returns with an olive branch. When he completes the voyage he gives thanks, and takes advice from the gods on how to repopulate the Earth. In a more colorful version, Zeus was angered by the extreme pride of the Pelasgians , the indigenous inhabitants of the Aegean Sea region, so he decided to punish them. Lycaon was the king of Arcadia, which was a part of the Peloponnese peninsula. It was an unspoiled, harmonious wilderness, thought to be the home of Pan. To punish Zeus for his oppression, Lycaon offered a blood sacrifice. Arcas, a son of Zeus, was placed upon the burning altar. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They chastised and rebuked Salih, whom they had once adored. The poor and needy of the community became His only believers. This caused the others to mock His efforts even more. Salih asked that the rich stop oppressing the poor, and adopt a more virtuous behavior. A few more people accepted His words. Not surprisingly, most of them refused to heed His warning, and instead began to harass Him to cause a miracle as proof of the Power of God. Salih kept telling them to look around and remember the numerous miracles God had already bestowed upon them. He reminded His people of the countless castles and palaces they had built, and of their rich farm fields, and technical superiority. He also reminded them of the fate of the Ad, and how they were destroyed for their similar, unrepentant sins. Produce a camel from the rocks , they shouted. Still, He exhorted them to worship One God, and be thankful to the One from whom all blessings flow. There was still time to turn from idolatry to monotheism. • 7. Tim Winton Good morning sir and fellow students. Significant events are pivotal in enriching ones understanding of their identity, which leads to an understanding of where they belong in the world. This is shown through our prescribed text The Simple Gift composed by Steven Herrick; as well as Tim Winton s The Turning . | Steven Herrick s free verse novel explores this value of events that shape a persons identity and hence their sense of belonging in their world. The cause of his alienation appears to be physical and psychological abuse from his father, lack of caring from his school and his run down neglected neighbourhood with its deadbeat no hoper... downtrodden house in Longlands Rd, Nowheresville . | The symbolism and scatological imagery ... Old Bill s view of the world slowly starts to change, as the protagonist reduces his consumption of alcohol and ventures to move on with his life. This is done through Herrick s use of Motif throughout the novel of Old Bills alcoholic nature. | While Old Bill demonstrates the symbolism of A Simple Gift when he gave his keys to his old home to Caitlin and Billy symbolizing his final pivotal moment enriching Billy s, Caitlin s and Old Bill s understanding of their identity, which leads to their understanding of where they belong in the world. | Tim Winton s The Turning also explores this value of events that shape a persons identity and hence their sense of belonging in their world. • 8. We All Have Evil Inside We All Have Evil Inside Nathaniel Hawthorne is best known for his use of allegorical figures in his short stories. The use of allegories help its readers seek a hidden meaning of an object or character to help them understand their significance to the story. In 1835, Hawthorne wrote the short story of Young Goodman Brown where the reader is introduced to an innocent and pure couple who are all about religion and against any evil worshippers. Faith and Goodman Brown will face a diabolic journey to hell, and fight against the will of the evil which is nearly impossible for everyone in town has walked through sin. I am writing about Young Goodman Brown because I am trying to show you how Hawthorne relies on the allegorical figures of Faith, the old man, and Goodman Brown to explain that everyone has evil within their own nature. Faith plays an important role that functions as an allegorical figure throughout Goodman Brown s diabolic journey. For example, at the beginning of the story, young Goodman Brown comes late to his meeting with the old man. As a result, he excused himself by stating Faith kept me back (Hawthorne pg. 387). Besides Faith being his wife s name, it is an allegory for religious faith. It is emphasized at the beginning of the story that this couple comes from a Puritan s society. In addition, their religious beliefs are strict, for they fear that any careless action may lead them to hell. In this scene, Goodman Brown commits a careless mistake when he ... • 10. Themes Of Osmosis Jones Monomyth Osmosis Jones and the Monomyth Osmosis Jones tells the story of a white blood cell who plays the role of a policeman inside a man named Frank. Teamwork is the central theme in Osmosis Jones, and is developed through the monomyth. The monomyth or hero s journey shows the steps that most movies go through, for example, The Matrix, Harry Potter, and Hunger Games. Most of these stories pass through twelve specific steps. According to Joseph Campbell, in his book, The Hero With a Thousand Faces, The monomyth is a structure that is common in many heroic stories, an outline that has existed for millennia. This story follows the main steps within the monomyth, while each step helps strengthen the theme. Osmosis Jones, the main protagonist, lives his everyday life as a rebellious germ policeman in the mouth. The first step of the monomyth, or his call to adventure is when Frank, the body he is trying to protect, contracts a deadly virus named Thrax. Thinking Thrax was just a common cold Frank consumes a pill called Drixenol. Drixenol, also known as Drix, befriends Jones as they are assigned partners on the cold case. Drix helps fulfill the second step of the monomyth, and becomes Jones assistance. This is where the two join as one and become a team. Although Jones and Drix go through a lot of small trials their first big trial, and the third step of the monomyth, is their encounter with Thrax in the nose. While in Franks nose Thrax turns the pressure pods up which destroys all the walls in his nostril. This causes a runny nose which Jones and Drix struggle to contain. After the nose incident Jones and Drix work together to extract evidence from the old know it all chicken pox influenza. With Jones smooth talking and Drix s big gun they use teamwork to beat the truth out of the old timer. Knowing all about Thrax they set off to find and defeat the menacing virus. Finally, they find Thrax at a new club on Franks forehead named The Zit. As they listen in on Thrax s plan to kill Frank within forty eight hours they are discovered. Through teamwork they destroy The Zit and all the germs within it including Thrax, or so they think. Thrax miraculously survives the explosion and moves forward with his plan to kill Frank. ... • 11. My Beloved Shelbie By Jane Austen To My Beloved Shelbie, At first, I wanted to write you a love letter describing how I feel about you, and what you mean to me, but I believe it is better if in addition to describing my feelings that I clear up all our miscommunications as best I can. Please understand that we see some things differently, an example being when you felt that I expected something out of you that was likely my fault for not doing my best to communicate my feelings but I never want you to feel like I demand something from you or that you owe me something, because you don t, and I would be the first to tell you to not tolerate that from anyone. It is something that I have viewed as an absolutely despicable and immature act and I would never consciously do that to you. I may just have gotten anxious about telling you how I feel because I could not bare to keep it from you for my own sake, I could not bare to hide that I love you. To quote Jane Austen In vain I have struggled. It will not do. My feelings will not be repressed. You must allow me to tell you how ardently I admire and love you. And that s just it, it was something I had to do and I did it in an absolutely cringeworthy manner for that I m sorry, I m also sorry for any trouble or stress I may have caused you as I often caught myself after the fact realizing that in an attempt to get you to like me ,in a purely platonic manner, I may have just said something that was ridiculous and made me look like an idiot. Sexuality also adds a great deal of tension to the two scenes. We watch as Marion drops her robe to the floor and steps gingerly into the shower. This was the reality for the thousands of workers during the Industrial Revolution, a time of innovation spanning the 18th and 19th centuries, which brought significant changes to society. Changes during this time impacted society in both positive and negative ways. While the Industrial Revolution created conveniences and comforts for some people in society, the costs outweighed the benefits because people suffered tremendously under the burden of such rapid technological growth. In the poem she wrote A free bird leaps on the back of the wind and floats downstream till the current ends and dips his wing in the orange sun rays and dares to claim the sky (1 5). There is nothing for the bird to do anything better than freedom. Because any cages, even the gold, can be captive. It s meant, like a beautiful girl, who doesn t think about love, but she is thinking only about money and when she got it, and she married, she cannot be happy in the huge house, with gold furniture, big pool, expensive cars and without love because this girl just a doll for her husband. She lives in the gold cage without freedom. First, there is no other bird next to anyone, and with no one to bet on the song. Secondly, the bird will not be able to spread wings its wide and fly far. Thirdly, independence, life and destiny are completely lost in the hands of the owner of the cage. There is such a state of the human soul when one wants to live and love, to fly to heaven, to laugh and sing, and to give his joy to all who are near. Such a feeling is called happiness. But, apparently, no one can give an accurate definition of this concept, as no one has yet to determine exactly what is happiness. Some people are trying to be happy and from time immemorial trying to figure out how to achieve it. The fact is that happiness is different for each person, depending on the personality of the person. And this, in turn, depends on education, environment, living conditions and many other factors. The study was restricted to publically listed Investment Banks and Mutual Funds and the model was not applicable to privately held and boutique banks and also wasn t applicable to hedge funds and other private funds which did not report their Net Asset Value Returns. According to the findings, the economic mass was highest for Goldman Sachs while Toronto Domino Bank shows the least economic mass. When it comes to Mutual Funds, Pimco the world s largest mutual fund had the lowest economic mass; the exposure to the crisis could be the reason behind this. The American Funds Growth Fund of America has the highest economic mass. This study has been able to show that the Heisenberg s Uncertainty Principle has implications for financial institutions. For future research, one could look into applying the model for privately held Financial Institutions and those funds which do not report their returns like Hedge Funds. PAGE 5

The audience then became lost and frightened as there were no signs leading them to their next destination, once again forcing them to partake in the performance. This physicalisation not only successfully involved the contemporary audience, but demonstrated the necessity of physical composition to give audiences that real experience. This use of physical composition provided immediate reaction and emotional expression through action and contrast. These elements ultimately enhanced the mood and symbolism of the performance, allowing audiences to not only partake in the production on an intimate level but also on an emotional level. Another way in which mood and symbol can be created is through the use of complicité. Another element used to enhance the physical theatre experience is complicité. This dramatic language refers to the use of an ensemble. In Dante s Inferno the benefit of an ensemble is demonstrated throughout the whole course of the production as it provided bigger representations and enhanced the powerful concepts. In particular, the violent circle representing murder, death and the element of fire, excelled in the utilisation of an ensemble. The audience were guided into a large hall where approximately thirty ensemble members were positioned around the architecture. The ensemble worked together, manipulating their bodies into unnatural, unsettling postures. Through precise ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Businesses run off of risk in order to make huge amounts of money. They trust the consumers to buy their products or services. They trust their suppliers with materials they need. They also trust the efficiency of their production line. Some businesses are so obsessed with the profits they gain that many people s lives are put at risk. One thing the farmers don t realize is that there is no diversity within the seeds that allow the seed to develop it s own defenses or success rate. Diversity allows the strongest seed to reproduce and make more seeds with even stronger characteristics. GMOs try to do this artificially which lead to their downfall every time. Suppose a farmer learned this and decides not to purchase any more of these seeds, Professor Zongo also stated that, If a farmer doesn t follow the flow and refuses to adapt the GMOs, they are cut from fertilizers and can t sell their products. • 33. Machiavelli vs Islamic Political Thought Machiavelli vs Islamic Political Thought Niccolo Machiavelli was a political realist. He thought there were certain skills and characteristics needed to become a political ruler. In his work, The Prince, Machiavelli gives advice on how to be a successful prince, or ruler. Successful is partly based on how powerful a ruler was during his lifetime (reign), but largely based on how much the prince affected the lives, through laws or societal norms, of future generations. Machiavelli was mainly interested in attaining and keeping political power. He believed people were inherently selfish and would, by nature, not respect the law or work for the common good, without civic virtues. The only way to ‘control these human urges was to instill ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Regardless of how good a ruler Borgia was though, when the time came to install a new pope and it wasn t his father, Borgia fell short and was no longer the ruler. While Machiavelli seemed to put no stock in the role of the citizen in determining a ruler, he thought rulers could protect their power by evoking the love of their people. But even this isn t enough all the time, because of the question always asked by citizens of its government, what have you done for me lately. The ruler must protect the citizens property, prosperity, family, and well being. For people to lead happy, full lives, they must be allowed to do what they want, within the guidelines of a state. But this is a cycle easier to maintain, than to begin. For people to do as they wish, there must be guidelines in place, but for guidelines to be established, people have to know what they want to do and what they are unable to do. Here is the reason governments were built in the first place. The group of people chose someone to establish guidelines, because people wanted more than they had. This is the real purpose of a ruler, to help establish a society. Machiavelli was consumed with rulers having and keeping power, by whatever force necessary. This seems to contradict what he is saying about the common good and civic virtues. If the ruler is only interested in power, what care would he have for the people? None, it seems to me. According to Ian Johnston, The Prince was more than just a feeble ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
