2. The Electoral College System Is Not Effective
If I had the opportunity to change the Constitution of the United States of America, I would change the
Electoral College system. Like many other Americans, I feel that the Electoral College system is not
effective. It caries a notion of the state versus the people, electors oversee a large part of the country
and is change the answer to this issue? I believe that times have changed and we need to reform the
electoral system all while not changing the constitution.
The Constitution of the United States of America created a system called the Electoral College where
it outlines the rules in which we elect the President of the United States of America. As stated in
Article 2, Section 1 of the U. S. Constitution created the Electoral College. Each state receives as
many electoral votes as it has senators and representatives. Therefore, each state, including the District
of Columbia, will have at least three electors. This is the vision of the Constitution. Now the problem
arises when all the Electoral votes from one state are given to the popular winner for that state. This
causes a with people s right to chose their leader as votes of the people that voted for the losing
candidate are tossed in the trash. All this while giving the state the ultimate power to elect the
president.
The people of the loosing party on the state votes are not worth anything they are just given to the
winner basically with the current electoral system. The system needs to be redesigned to

3. Rose Colored Dance Analysis
Most spectators would distinguish various forms throughout Rose Colored Dance , particularly ovals,
rectangles, and a multitude of lines targeted at a focal point (linear perspective). The most evident
feature is the symmetrical flower, centered at the intersection of the lines and placed in the foreground.
Descending the stem is black white photographs, where portraits substitute the 3 heads on the
surrounding birds. Likewise, the images contrast to the red and white hues in the shapes. On both
sides of the canvas, two proportionate and identical rectangles are in the background, while below are
two ovals containing women figurines. Both of these shaded silhouettes is mirrored, placed proximally
to the midpoint and their heads are covered

4. Stings
In Sylvia Plath s poem Stings , there are many important techniques used that can be easily
overlooked when one has only read the final poem and not the original drafts. The original version of
Stings reveals a narrator that relates and desires to be the Queen of the bees. Unlike the original
however, the final draft is more coded and less forthright with the narrator s aspirations. In the original
draft there are a couple of words and phrases omitted from the final that bring about a different
interpretation of how the narrator compares herself to the Queen Bee. It seems as though many of the
changes made in the poem were to make the narrators longings come to fruition while also trying to
bring the bees to life through the narrator. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By merging the stanzas together and omitting the four lines in the final draft, Plath is focusing her
attention on the humans rather than the bees. To further understand the significance of this change it
helps to look at the eleventh stanza in the original draft. The importance of the stanza separation in the
original version is seen through looking at the first and second line Black as the devil, and
vengeful/The bees found him out (Plath, manuscript). In the original draft, the stanza separation shifts
the focus from the third beekeeper back onto the bees and allows for a completely different reading
where Black as the devil, and vengeful describes the bees rather than the wound had there been no
separation in stanzas. The bees are described as though to be swarming and seeking vengeance for
their disturbed queen. Plath seems however to want to focus on the person being stung rather than the
bees and therefore omits the four lines and merges the stanzas together. In one of her letters to her
mother, Plath describes how her husband is stung by bees for being carless much like the beekeeper in
the poem (The County Dublin Beekeepers Association, para 8). By getting rid of the lines and joining
the two stanzas, Plath demonstrates how the bees of the hive would react in such a situation; without
focus on anything but the beekeeper who had disturbed their peace. The added lines focused too much
on the bees and the stings on the beekeepers face. The removed lines allow the reader to remain in the
descriptive point of view of the bees rather than going back to the narrator s point of

5. The Role Of Liberty And Equality
This review shall analyze the role of liberty and equality as they pertain to liberal and conservative
ideologies. Alexis de Tocqueville, one of the greatest commentators on the American political
tradition, viewed it through the lens of two related ideas: liberty and equality. These ideas, so
eloquently framed by Thomas Jefferson in the Declaration of Independence, have remained
inextricably and uniquely conjoined in American political thought: equality is understood as the equal
possession of natural rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. By considering American
reflections on these core ideas over time in relation to constitutional principles, religion, and race this
volume provides an especially insightful perspective for understanding our political tradition.
Liberty refers to the freedom that individuals have whereas equality refers to treating all individuals in
the same manner.
Equal¬ity before the law is the natural state in a political society, but equality of goods and social life
in general is unnatural, and would take a great amount of regulation and coercion to achieve and
sustain.
I define liberty as the absence of coercion, the individual s right to do whatever he chooses with his
life and property as long as he does not directly harm others. USE QUOTE HERE
Liberty and equality are interrelated. This is when one party enjoys liberty to engage in a particular
activity, but the others are denied the same right. This results in a

The date was December 13, 2016. We had a game in West Dubuque. We lost that game by 10 points. It
was a bad loss and a game that we should have won. After the game a player on my team was in the
locker room. The varsity guys were in there too. By this time I had left with my parents and heard
about what happened in the locker room a couple days later. The varsity guys put a couple of Western

8. Causes Of The Pueblo Revolt
Pueblo revolt
The Pueblo revolt was the changing point for the relationship between the Spanish and native
population and one of the earliest tragedies to befall the Natives at the time but to explain what lead to
the revolt we must step back into history and look at the events that lead to this.
The Spanish had been expanding their influence in the new world by conquering the empires and
peoples. Soon they would extend northward continuing to claim new land thereby building New
Spain. Starting in 1540 the Spanish moved into what would become New Mexico. With the Spanish
expansion came soldiers, missionaries, and settlers. These movements would lead to a confrontation
between the Pueblo people and the Spaniards known as the Tiguex War. The Tiguex War was
spearheaded by occurred during the winter of 1540 41. Leading the Spaniard troops was Francisco
Vásquez de Coronado. The Spanish attacked the 12 tribes of the region leading to a further breakdown
of Native and Spanish relations that would continue until 1598. Juan De Onate led a force of over 100
soldiers women children and Priests into the Rio Grande Valley attempting to start a Spanish
settlement. The establishment of this new settlement soon leads to another revolt between the Pueblo
and the Spaniards. This rebellion is known as the Tacoma Massacre. Under the command of Juan De
Onate, the Spanish soldiers killed and enslaved hundreds of Natives. Onate also ordered the right foot

9. A Brief Look at Heat Shock Proteins
Heat shock proteins are chaperone proteins with many functions. Some known functions of heat shock
proteins are of assisting the folding of nonnative proteins, stabilizing cellular proteins under stressful
conditions such as heat, and aiding in the degradation of proteins. Hsp90 is a particular heat shock
protein with a specific role. Hsp90 not only assists proteins undergoing stress but it also helps
unstressed cells with intracellular transport and cell signaling. It is a required protein for the activation
of certain growth factor and steroid hormone receptors, protein kinases and other signaling molecules
which are protooncogenic. As Hsp90 stabilizes certain oncogenes in tumor growth, Hsp90 inhibitors
are of interest for investigation for anti cancer drugs as inhibition of Hsp90 may induce apoptosis for
the cancerous cells. The particular structure of this protein gives this protein its identity and ability to
function the way that it does. The structure of Hsp90 will be explored, particularly 1YET with
geldanamycin as a ligand viewed from X ray diffraction.
Hsp90 is a cytoplasmic protein which is globular in structure, being predominantly polar outside and
nonpolar inside. Hsp90 can be activated through the binding with ATP where it has a specific ATP
binding site. It contains two conformational states, an open ATP bound state and a closed ADP bound
state. There are three functional domains in Hsp90. There is the N terminus binding domain where
ATP binding occurs, the

Three Influential Characters to Vahan Kenderian
Everyone is a product of past experiences, Vahan Kenderian is no different. Vahan was a twelve year
old child from a wealthy Armenian family living in Bitlis, Turkey during the Armenian genocide in the
early 1900 s. Within a two day span, Vahan s life begins to fall apart, his father is taken away from
him, two of his brothers are killed in front of him, his grandmother is also killed, and his sister kills
herself. Vahan and his older brother fortunately escape, but are forced to abandon their mother and
sister. Vahan then begins his journey to flee to Constantipole. During his journey, he encounters many
people along the way who teach him life lessons. Firstly, his father Sarkis Kenderian gives strength
and guidance to Vahan. Secondly, Ara Sarkisian the coppersmith teaches Vahan that home is not made
of materialistic things, it is a feeling and time takes away everything. Lastly, Selim Bey advises Vahan
to worry about himself, and to pick and choose his friends carefully. Therefore, Sarkis, Ara and Selim
teach Vahan the most through their interactions and change his character for the better.
Vahan s father is a huge influence and inspiration for him. Vahan aspires to be just like his father
wanted him to be, strong, determined, and proud. As much as his father s words haunt him, they also
inspire Vahan to continue moving forward. When Vahan and Sisak are in trouble they recite

Principles of Management
15 September, 2016
History of Management: Paper 1 Many people have their fingerprints on what is known as
management today. Just as everything else it started from ground zero with a lot of trial and error.
Over the years brilliant people such as Adam Smith and countless others have etched into history that
best way to manage, whether on a small or large scale. The wake of these people is still being seen
today in upcoming companies such as Zappos, who brings fresh and new twists to management as a
whole. Management has evolved over the years and will continue to as people and procedures do as
well.
March 9, 1776 marked the date that Adam Smith wrote his widely known book The Wealth of Nations
. The book s original name is An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations,
however it is not recognized by the majority public as so. Smith originally wrote the novel to
dismember the thought that mercantilism was a good idea. Only selling goods and gaining nothing
from trade in return proved in many cases to not be effective.. Smith wrote of the Invisible Hand
which claimed that people, by human nature, look out for their best interest and that in doing so they
unknowingly help the economy. Smith states, He (or she) generally, indeed, neither intends to promote
the public interest nor knows how much he is promoting it (Investopedia.com, An Inquiry into the

13. The California s Prison System
California s prison system is facing a number of infrastructure changes as a result of a judicial
decision that came down from the United States Supreme Court, Governor of California et al v. Plata
et al. California s prison system was deemed inadequate and dangerous due to severe overcrowding
which led to needless suffering and death (Rogan, 2012, 262). The court ruled that the State must
reduce the number of inmates in California s thirty three state prisons. This ruling came about after
two class action lawsuits were filed, Coleman v. Wilson in 1990 and Plata v. Davis in 2001 (Rogan,
2012, 261). These lawsuits were filed by inmates that claimed they received poor medical and mental
health care within the State s prison health care system (Vicini, 2011,1). The evidence presented in
these cases showed several shortcomings in California s prison health care system (Rogan, 2012, 264).
These shortfalls were a result of severe overcrowding within California s thirty three state prisons. At
its peak in 2006, California s prisons were filled with approximately 172,000 inmates. However, these
prisons were designed to hold about 80,000 individuals (Vicini, 2011, 3). At that point, State prisons
were filled at 215% over capacity. Because of overcrowding, prison inmates faced chronic and severe
shortages in basic medical and mental health care services (Vicini, 2011, 1). Despite attempts by the
CDCR and the legislature to reduce the prison population between 2006 and 2011, the

I had been out of the hospital for two weeks. I was staying on track with my medicine, with the help of
my husband Bryon. I have been dealing with depression for a while now and I eventually ended up
being emitted to the hospital. I decided to take time off work for a while until I got back in the swing
of things. Me and my husband Bryon decided that was the best thing to do. Every day Bryon would

knives and scissors. I didn t feel like all of that was necessary, but I could see why he did that with the
state of mind I was in before I was emitted to the hospital. Battling with severe depression took a toll
on me. There was no definite cause for my depression either. It s like no matter how good things were
going in my life, there would always be a little bit of sadness that lingered. I was feeling confident that
I was going to really get better and more stable. It is just so hard sometimes to find the medicine that
worked. It is like trial and error. My medicine would have to be adjusted to get me feeling the best I
could, but I was hoping that this was a real fix. I mean I knew that I would not always be happy

Another thing that could be seen as a motivation of founding the venture was Frank s idea of forming
a Dream Team for the marketing and technology sections. But Zondigo could not satisfy all of
Addante s motiva tions of founding ventures because the fast growth of Zondigo was averted by
missing outside funding. This problem was caused by several changes in the business plan. Addante
had to adjust his ideas and adapt them to the investment community. After he finally received out side
funding he realized that there was no market for his idea so he returned the funding to his investors.
Frank Addante founded his fifth venture together with Tim McQuillen. Again he had the mo tivation
of creating a business out of a new idea but this time Addante made sure that there is a market for his
products. With reference to Frank Addante s motivation of holding equity it can be said that he
decided to keep himself motivated with an adequate stake of the venture s equity. Firstly, Addante did
not want to run his Strong Mail venture as the CEO because he wanted to concentrate on the holding
company he had created before he founded Strong Mail . But after Frank detected a strong market for
Strong Mail s products he felt that he needed to jump in and lead the company. He also felt the
motivation of working together with his friend and former employee Tim McQuillen, with whom
Addante had worked together well in his former ventures.

19. Racial Zoning
Inequality and mistreatment is prevalent in the world today. However, today the world is much closer
to solving its issues as opposed to 100 years ago. Planners are a significant part of that fight, standing
up for what they believe is right and implementing the proper plans and action needed to begin to
solve that issue. While social justice may not be at its peak today, times used to be worse. Formerly,
while trying to improve cities with zoning certain races, religions, and peoples were excluded from the
nice parts of town and even jobs. Zoning began around 1900 when the local government restricted the
height of buildings in Washington District of Columbia. From there, the government realized it could
intervene on private property and the people would allow it (Silver, 1997). As zoning evolved, so did
the type of zoning from height restrictions to land use and eventually to redlining. Silver explains the
extent situation as, the nation s planning movement, not just its Southern branch, regarded land use
controls as an effective social control mechanism for Blacks and other undesirables (p. 2).
Unfortunately for the US and for its citizens, racial zoning is not the only undesirable social norm.
Well known in cities at the time were the City Beautiful movement and the city practical, however,
social issues were merely pushed to the side. Wirka (1996) explains that both are undoubtedly
important movements in the history of planning (p. 57), however, she goes on

The poet Horace is how the English knew him, but his birth name is Quintus Horatius Flaccus, he was
born in Italy in the little town of Venusia near the border of Apulia and Luciana, whence likes to
describes himself as Lucanus an Apulus anceps man on December 8, 65 B.C. An important difference
to annotate is Horace s father was an Italian freedman (a former slave who has been released from

his father was a man of a few acres, but refuses to send him to the local school where all the boys went

Socrates (467 399) was the first poor philosopher. He is well known for dialoguing and entering into
study by asking questions, which is the basis for the Socratic Method. Also known for vehemently
speaking out againstwriting, Socrates never wrote any of his philosophies down. He believed that
writing made people intellectually lazy, and instead of expanding their capacity for memory, made it
smaller. This is a very interesting thing to consider, since many people will write things down instead
of committing them to memory because it is easier. Socrates was against the teaching of ideas without
dialogue, which he believed writing tried to attempt by preventing people from really engaging the
subject matter on their own. However, I think that the benefits of writing far outweigh the negative
consequences of it. Without writing, humans would have a limited way of passing information on,
especially in communication with those in other parts of the world, and in the future. Interesting, as a
result of his distaste for writing, any information about Socrates philosophies that we have come from
other people who recorded his ideas, most notably Plato (427 347). Plato decided to write out Socrates
many dialogues, even though he knew of Socrates critique of writing. It is possible that he did not
believe writing out Socrates dialogues was wrong since it does encourage readers engagment in the
information as it is written in a conversational style. So what made Socrates enter

24. Similarities Between Patriotism And Nationalism
The terminology patriotism and nationalism are two similar terms; both referring to the love towards
one country, however, patriotism is a subtopic under the concept of nationalism, because nationalism
is not solely the love of a country or the hate of all other country, suggesting there are different forms
of nationalism. Patriotism and nationalism are often mistaken as synonyms. Patriotism is the
unconditional love towards a country. It is individual connection between an individual and a country.
It could be caused by many factors of nationalism. Nationalism is the connection individuals felt
between one another regarding one or more notion of the many aspects of nationalism geographical,
social, cultural, political, religious, and economically related. Connections link directly to collective
identity, and it can be formed by religious beliefs, for instance, Indonesia is a Muslim country, and
majority of Indonesians are Muslims, this connects people in Indonesia religiously to one another, in
other words, citizens forms a collective cultural identity, where everyone valued the same belief,
leaving no one in isolation. Cultures and traditions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Richard Cameron is one of the most conformist and eventually antagonistic characters in the Dead
Poets society. He is one of few who takes the traditionalist mentality at Welton Academy to heart and
idealizes Mr. Nolan s preparatory teachings. Cameron is invited to join the Dead poets society and
does so, but with notably less enthusiasm than some of his peers. Even here, while on the surface it
may appear a nonconformist act to join this group that Keating already said would not be looked upon
favorably from the current administration, Cameron only joined this group because his closest
associates prompted the action. Cameron would not have taken the first move to actually reconvene

He must be fully exonerated and the school making him a scapegoat for Neil s death has no basis is
facts and is a criminal act. Keating, as an English professor, is meant to open Neil s mind to
individuality and freedom. This teacher, especially in the subject of English, is supposed to expand the
students creativity and teach them to think for themselves. Keating only did his job to the best of his
ability, and the fact that he had such a large impact of Neil and some other students reflects on how
well he was doing his job, and not that he is to blame for Neil s death. While it could be argued that
Neil had no life threatening or rebellious episodes against his father or his school until Keating began
to teach, this is more of a statement on the ineffectiveness of the previous teachers. The fact that Neil
begins to take control of his life shows how Keating has inspired Neil to think for himself, which is
the purpose Keating s job. The fact that previous teachers failed to do this should not reflect poorly on
Keating, nor should it be a cause for his guilt. Further evidence against Keating s guilt is that Neil
attempts to stand up his father in the beginning of the film, before he meets Keating. This attitude was
already present in Neil, and Keating only gave Neil more self assurance, and thus he is not to blame.
Keating is innocent in Neil s death, as he only did his job to the best of his ability, and outside factors

George Lucas When it comes to the filmmaking industry, there are many greats. Each one has stamped
their unique methods onto the world of film that developed into the beloved art that is present today.
Among one of those greats is George Lucas. George singlehandedly had one of the most significant
impacts on the development of special effects and sound technology. His life experiences and
friendships that he made along the way created the foundation for his great success and drove him to
his success. George Lucas, Jr. was born to George Lucas, Sr. and Dorothy Lucas on May 14, 1944 in
Modesto, California. Growing up, his family owned a stationary store and they were in no way
involved in the movie making business. Growing up, Lucas was very passionate about cars and motor

27. The Negative Impact of Social Networking Sites on People
Social Networking Sites People have been impacted by social networking sites. Social networking
sites have a negative influence on our generation because of bullying, predation, and an effect on our
education. With kids interacting freely they can come across predation. Furthermore, some predators
have an objective of enticing young people into sending inappropriate webcam photos of themselves
or to engage in sexually explicit conversations (Sexton and English 2). Kids are the easiest to
manipulate and to take control of. Also, critics of social networking sites claim that it contributes to
predatory or stalking behavior and can used to invade privacy (Belanger and Finley 1). Parents should
be going through their children s profile to make sure who they are talking to. Clearly, with kids
sending private information about themselves they can be blackmailed by the receiver into mental and
physical abuse. Our generation is mostly being affected by cyberbullying. Additionally, anonymity
online can cause people to engage in cyberbullying or other anti social behavior because of limited
fear of being caught or identified (Sexton and English 2). With the idea of not getting caught, people
think it s funny to cyberbully. In addition to, social networking websites are virtual communities that
encourage and foster interaction among members of a group by allowing them to post personal

28. Modern Culture Is Inevitable, By John Storey And The...
Evolution of culture is inevitable, as shown in John Storey s articles, Inventing Opera as art in
Nineteenth Century Manchester and The Invention of the English Christmas. Within both articles,
Storey showcases the transformation of culture, with the opera from low class entertainment to high
class art and Christmas transforming from a religious centered event to a capitalism driven day. Both
articles look at class hierarchy, the rise of materialism and accessibility. While both of Storey s articles
are concerned with the evolution of cultural events, the opera emphasises class hierarchy, whereas the
article on the progression of Christmas focuses on a materialistic revolution. Inventing Opera as art in
Nineteenth Century Manchester told how opera evolved from an event centred on entertainment to a
form of art that could only be accessed by the bourgeois. Opera became a social construct, creating a
class hierarchy. Original Venetian operas were considered as low culture to the influential middle class
as they were the popular culture at the time and attended by lower class people who did not appreciate
the art form (Giroux, Nealon 2011, 53). Inventing Opera as art in Nineteenth Century Manchester
looks at an emergence of class hierarchy and what separates high class opera from low class opera. In
comparison, Storey s other article The Invention of the English Christmas demonstrates a materialistic
revolution that accompanied the industrial revolution in the

4.2 Objectives
The purpose of modeling the fate and transport of pollutants in surface water is for a better
understanding of the relationship between pollutant loads during rainfall events and to be able to
simulate and make predictions of future water quality conditions. By connecting stream flow rates
model to pollutant loads, the relationship between pollutant transport and water quality can be
determined. For this research, models of the fate and transport of the chloride and sulfate in Leon
River was constructed.
4.3 Conceptual Model
The conceptual model for this research is a network model which models the rate of flow of pollutant
through a connected network of points in surface water. The water quality monitoring stations
represent such points and serve as containers. From analysis of the water quality monitoring
measurements of pollutants at each chosen station, it is observed that the concentration levels of
pollutants tend to be high where it has not rained for a long time compared to where it rained the
previous day or few days ago. This then can be interpreted to mean that the concentration of pollutant
in surface water is proportional to the amount of water in the surface water body. Drought condition
will concentrate the pollutants, while on the other hand rain events help to dilute the pollutes because
of increase of water and also contribute to the flow of the pollutant from one point to the other

Class Structures in the 1920 s
The emerging inequitable class systems and antagonisms of the nineteen twenties saw the traditional
order and moral values challenged, as well as the creation of great wealth for few and poverty for
many. The Great Gatsby, written by Francis Scott Fitzgerald, explores the causes and effects of the
unbalanced class structures. Fitzgerald outlines the idea that the desire to accumulate wealth and status
is a common ambition amongst the lower classes; when that desire is reached, the traditional upper
class is challenged by the emerging newly wealthy, which finally leads to destructive consequences.

Nonverbal communication covers all aspects of communication beyond words. It is anything from
body gestures to the way words are spoken. The tone, demeanor, hidden meaning behind words, mix
that with body language and what is creates in nonverbal communication elements. Even clothes and
personal appearance can send a nonverbal message. Nonverbal communication accounts for nearly 65
93% communication means (Wood, 2014). One area where nonverbal communication sent a negative,
incorrect message is the movie Erin Brockovich. The clothing of the main character sent the message
that she was uneducated, white trash. This could not be further from the truth. She was an intelligent,
single mother who saw a problem where nobody else did.
Clothing can send a nonverbal message. A person dresses differently when going to an adventure park
than for an evening out on the town. What nonverbal rule did I break? I wore less than appropriate
attire to a funeral showing. One of my cancer patients lost her battle with her disease. I learned of the
viewing the day it was taking place. Due to the time and location of the viewing I went directly from
work to the funeral home. The short notice did not allow for me to bring a change of clothes or go
home prior.
How did I break the rule? The rule was broken by wearing the inappropriate attire. Even though
viewings are expected to be slightly less formal than the actual funeral there is still a level of
expectation of others. The expectation of someone being dressed in business casual. I would not
expect to see someone in their jeans and a t shirt or shorts at a viewing. I was still in my work clothing
which appropriate for the job task, no appropriate for the moment. Myself and my nurses wore our
scrubs to the viewing because we all had similar situations that would not allow for attire change.
What were the reaction of others? The deceased sisters did not seem bothered by our wear. They were
aware that we might not have time to go home and change our clothes at the end of our day. Due to
their high involvement in the care of their sister, they had grown quite found on myself and the other

1.2 Evaluate the importance of an appropriate opening of a series of sessions In my opinion the
beginning of the counselling session is one of the most important stage of the process, the client will
be very nervous and will not fully trust the process they are about to embark on, their unknown
journey they will be nervous. The Client may hold back what they are feeling until they have gained
the trust of the counsellor, and know they are safe and in a confidential environment. Another
important factor in the opening stage is to draw up a contract and discuss the content with the client,
this will demonstrate it s a working relationship and both the client and counsellor will know their
barriers, it also gives structure and prevents any misunderstanding in the relationship. By having a
contract it demonstrates to the client they are safe and able to speak freely also it shows the client that
each session if totally confidential, there are exceptions to the rule and these will be included in the
contract and what the process will be if they disclose anything that is unlawful. Having unconditional
positive regard from the beginning will display to the client there is no hidden agenda and that the
counsellor is non judgmental, this will support the client to develop the working relationship and show
the client they are valued and wanted, they will start to relax to open up freely and loosen up their
attitude towards the session. 1.3

Felipe Guaman Poma de Ayala was an ethnic Andean, deeply inspired by the injustice of the colonial
regime, he wrote a massive manuscript in 1615 about the history of the Inca Empire to the King of
Spain. His masterpiece includes 1,200 pages, of which 398 were images full of details, that are clearly
considered by the artist to be the most direct and effective way of communicating his ideas to the
audience. Felipe de Ayala focused on the conflicts between the settlers and the natives to reveal, in his
powerful drawings, his wider purpose of a desire for a colonial reformation that will bring stability
and justice to the Andean people. Two major reasons that motivated Ayala to write the manuscript are
broadly seen in his drawings: the first ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This incident was a major motivation for Guaman Poma to write the manuscript and change his
believes in the Church, because he felt no support from the colonial regime. Before being convicted,
Guaman Poma was serving and protecting the Church as an interpreter of a visitador or inspector
named Cristobal de Albornoz. He helped to identify and capture practitioners of native religion during
the first campaigns to stop idolatry. He gives proof of this fact, by picturing Albornoz supervising the
punishment of a native Andean (Figure 1). The Andean has an image, of himself playing with the
devil, on top of his head, which represents idolization. He shows his fear towards the Spaniards by
being in a state of shock and crying as if he is innocent. The other Andean that is getting instructions
from the priest is a member of the inspection team. He seems very determined and supportive of the
Church and feels no sorrow for punishing the native. Guaman Poma approved the fight against
idolatry because in his drawings, the Andean inspectors always fight against their own tradition and
religion by protecting the Church. Another important issue that Guaman Poma supported is
evangelization of the Andean people. His vivid drawings and issues suggest that he pressed on the
need of evangelization (Figure 2). For example in this figure, an Andean woman is terrified by these
animals and forced to become a Christian. Her fear is

Raven
During a cold, dark evening in December, a man is attempting to find some solace from the
remembrance of his lost love, Lenore, by reading volumes of forgotten lore. As he is nearly overcome

wonder, half fear overcomes the speaker, and as he peers into the deep darkness, he can only say the
word Lenore. Upon closing the door, another knock is immediately heard from the chamber s window.

and sits there on the bust of Pallas to this day, ever a torment to the speaker s soul, and a reminder of
his lost love.
Importance of the Work:
The Raven is without a doubt the work for which Poe is best known. Through this poem, Poe has
taken his favorite theme, that of the untimely death of a beautiful woman, and made that theme
universally understandable and fascinating, earning himself literary immortality in the process. There
is no doubt that The Raven takes direct influence from Poe s life experiences. Poe was a moody
bookworm, and Virginia Poe s health had been declining since 1842. Poe s friend, R. H. Horne, wrote
of The Raven, the poet intends to represent a very painful condition of mind, as of an imagination that
was liable to topple over into some delirium or an abyss of melancholy, from the continuity of one
unvaried emotion. Poe s life was varied in experience, but, as Horne s letter said of Poe s poetry, static
in outlook, and his life s entire tone is perfectly encapsulated in The Raven. Poe,
