The Effects Of Concussion On Young Athletes
Concussion in Young Athletes
Tennessee State University
Kenji Anderson
Introduction
When youth participate in sports, they are at risk for multiple types of injuries. One of the most
common and dangerous sports related injuries is concussions. Although concussions are one of the
most visible sports injuries, it is often hard to diagnose. Symptoms of a concussion can be vague and
uncertain, which can inevitably lead to more harm to an athlete. Athletes who play with concussions
can face great consequences if they are not removed from play. The effects of obtaining or playing
with a concussion may not be recognized early on but rather over time. The control disease center
reported that that reported concussions have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A connection between the knowledge concerning concussions and obtaining a concussion injury has
not been confirmed. Although football may have the most contact in sports, female soccer players
have a higher concussion rate than any other sport (Preidt P.1, 2015). The contact of the soccer player
s head to the ball is the direct cause of the concussion. Since there is no protective gear guarding the
soccer player s head, it is more likely to obtain a concussion due to direct contact to the head of the
player.
Diagnosis
Catching the symptoms of sports related head injuries is crucial to preventing further injuries from
happening. The symptoms of concussion can include emotional, physical, and mental aspects. The
signs of a concussion can vary, which can lead to some missed diagnosis (Whyte, Benton 2013).
When diagnosing a concussion physicians or athletic trainers look for certain cues to help confirm a
diagnosis. The cues can include headaches, feeling of being in a daze, and mood alterations. Some
signals that might coincide with the others will include loss of consciousness, behavioral changes, and
slowed reaction times to situations. The physical signs of a concussion will be the easiest to recognize.
The emotional and cognitive aspects will not be

The Truman Report And The American Community College
The Truman Report and the American Community College
Introduction
The President s Commission on Higher Education was formed with the basis of exploring the purpose
and the need for Higher Education and the role it played in society. During 1947 there were many
issues affecting not just Higher Education but the nation as a whole. Foreign policy was in disarray,
the threat of a Cold War with the Soviet Union and issues such as the post effects of World War II and
Civil Rights had a huge impact on the home front. According to Wolfe (1994), there was a growing
need of Americans that wanted to be educated; however the country was not equipped with the tools
that were necessary to provide these sources. The report highlighted several key areas that would be
the catalyst for Community Colleges, Societal Issues, the Role of Community Colleges, and the future
of American.
Response to Higher Education Societal Issues
The increase in enrollment in high schools resulted in more individuals making the decision to further
their education. As a result of the increase in attendance, the commission found that the amount of
students attending school did not match with the current needs. This could be attributed to factors such
economic backgrounds, individual student finances, and the amount of money that was invested in
higher education, as a result, the commission revealed that there was a lack of funding that was
invested towards education.
In addition to the lack of funding and the

The Evolution Of Egos
As with any new technology today, there must have been a magical experience for people back in the
day to witness and hear radio for the first time. It s oddly comforting in a way to know that even with
the ever changing hi tech gadgets of today, somethings over time, do not change. The way people react
to new ideas and inventions and how they impede those innovations. Egos can get in the way of where
a new idea ends up and how advanced that idea becomes. In addition, the notion that something can be
replaced with a newer and improved model has not changed in over 100 years. It seems that radio
would have made faster and more advanced strides if it wasn t for the egos of the three men that
forged it. Lee de Forest, Edwin Armstrong,

Mechanical Turk s Target Market
Executive Summary
1. Analysis on Crowdfunding
1.1 Mechanical Turk
Mechanical Turk s provides human intelligence task services, referring to tasks computer AI find
difficult where humans find simple. Mechanical Turk s target market is innately unique it provides a
large market of low skill solvers and seekers needing a large volume of low skill workers.
With it s large employee reach and freedom for what employers charge, Mechanical Turk is optimal
for microwork . Mechanical Turk s value is thus in its ability to source low skill, short term tasks
which require a large volume of workers to complete, with little to no interaction with the solver. This
also makes it valuable as a simple source of income for low skill solvers. The seeker gains value from
Mechanical Turk as it greatly saves on time, costs and is convenient. The solver gains value from
Mechanical Turk from the monetary incentive, freedom and ease of the work, and the convenience of
working online.
1.2 Spoonflower
Spoonflower provides a platform to design, or purchase prints and fabric. As they have allowed users
to sell their designs, their target market has expanded to include clothing and graphic designers, and
the common people as both the seekers and the solvers.
As the textiles industry has been traditionally dominated by large firms, Spoonflower provides the
value of sourcing designs and fabrics at an affordable price, with a greater variety of patterns. Seekers

Persuasive Essay On Snow Removal
The gift that my group performed for the community of Juneau, Alaska is snow removal. The group
consisted of my two most trustworthy peers Marcos Yadao and Mitchell Laudert. We all understood
that living in a small tight knit town such as Juneau; the smallest of tasks can have the biggest
impacts. That is when the light bulb in our intellectual brains and the idea of snow removal came to
mind. It was an appropriate job for the winter season. With heavy snow flurries in the forecast, this
would be an achievable accomplishment. With the service in mind our next step was to pick a
location. We did not want to select the wealthy neighborhoods because the residents there would
probably be financially able to pay for such services. The location that we settled on was not a poverty
stricken area, but the homes consisted of elderly residence. To avoid complications with the occupants
of the home and explain our reasoning for the free service we wanted to only do homes were the
residence weren t present. That did not hold up to a standard when we actually got around to carry out
the service. The whole point of going out and helping people of Juneau with their snow blanketed
driveways, walkways, and porches too was to gain self respect and also to prove to the world that
good can come from anything and anywhere too.
The reason that I believe that volunteer work and work in general is vital to success in the today s
world and society is because the generation that I am apart of is lack of a better term lazy. The motto of
the entitled generation is procrastination is key. The most important part in forming a generation
comes from the parents. The outcome of a generation s attitude always leads back to the source (the
parents). Volunteer work in present time is very important for the youth, but is equally as important for
adults too. Some local organizations in Juneau are Love Incorporation, Helping Hands Healing Hands
LLC, Saint Vincent De Paul, and Southeast Alaska Regional Health Consortium (SEARHC). It is a
non profit organization that provides health care for residents of Southeast Alaska. Saint Vincent De

Jig and the Stream of Life in Hemingway’s “Hills Like...
I see many people as I wander through the streets, yet I can only hear silence. I see couples getting
into a restaurant, order, check their smartphones, eat, and I wonder why they do not look up, face each
other and genuinely communicate. What I perceive, are men and women living not with, but next to
each other. This is exactly what I imagined when I read Hemingway s Hills Like White Elephants . A
couple waiting to catch a train and as they sit and drink some beers, they start talking about Jig s
pregnancy and the option of abortion. However, all I can hear is silence because they simply do not
speak the same language. They are both living in different worlds filled with divergent ideologies and
opinions. As a result, the words do not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While the American, a practical man, looks at things in the function of their practicality and possesses
little imagination. Furthermore, he is dominant, a know all and a manipulator to the bone. He takes
care of the luggage, speaks Spanish and orders the drinks, not Jig. When sitting in the bar drinking
some beers, she looks off at the lines of hills and remarks: They look like white elephants, she said. I
ve never seen one, the man drank his beer. (251). I think Jig is referring to a concept, using figurative
language for a white elephant is, in fact, an idiom for a rare thing of which the cost exceeds its value.
In this perspective, it is an intertextual reference to the yet unborn baby. For the practical American,
the baby is just a costly thing, but Jig does not share his view. She values life and nature. In contrast,
her lover is talking about a real white, albino elephant. He cannot comprehend what Jig is referring to.
When Jig utters her disappointment about the poor taste of the Anis del Toro, they have a quarrel that
ends with him saying that they should try and have a fine time (252). Yet the way he puts it sounds
more like a demand, an imposition. As the discussion goes on whether or not to abort the child, the
American even appears to know that Jig wouldn t mind to do it. A matter that is clearly linked to
women, nonetheless, he knows: it s all perfectly natural (253). When, in fact, you could question

Relationship Between Body Art And The Catholic Church
Body Art and the Catholic Church
I have always wondered if the Catholic church approved of tattooing and body piercing. I am not the
type of person that most people think of when they think of tattooed or pierced individual. When I tell
people that I have tattoos, people always say but you don t seem like the kind of person who would get
a tattoo. I personally do not believe that certain kinds of people get tattoos and I wondered what my
religion would think of my art. I have gone to a Catholic church my whole life; I am actually very
active in my church. I teach a four year old CCD (or Catholic Sunday school) class and I used to play
my flute in the choir. CCD registrations this year made my mind burn with this unanswered ... Show

The author of the article even seemed to have trouble drawing the line of excessive. The author, Father
Peter Joseph, states that he can not clearly say what is right or wrong, but he tries to point out facts
that should be considered before becoming inked; satanic tattoos are defined as being a sin as well as
tattoos that show the ugliness of the world. For example, a floral tattoo that is filled with vibrant
colors can become faded and ugly over time, therefore even the most beautiful tattoos can become
ugly. The text also says that tattoos and piercing are considered to be self mutilation. Father Peter
Joseph said that The human body was not made by God to be a pin cushion or a mural (Joseph).
I did not agree with this text at all. I think that the person who wrote this was trying to say that tattoos
and body piercing are wrong, but he didn t want to literally say that. He tiptoed around the issue so
that all tattooed or pierced people appeared to be vain sinners.
The information that I found so far was not helping me answer my question. I wanted to find a site
that had normal people answering my questions. I didn t like the priests approach to the topic, so I
searched the Catholic Answers Forum. The Catholic Answers Forum is a message board where people
post questions. Someone posted a question asking if anyone had tattoos and if the church had a

Google And The Google Search Engine Essay
Google s Rise to Prominence
Want to find the answer to a difficult and complex linear algebra problem that seems unsolvable?
Google it. Want to find out how to officially join Justin Bieber fan club? Google it. Want to find out
who Justin Bieber is? Google it. Not long ago, people had to go to the library to search for
information. Nowadays, people get their information from search engines through the Internet. Google
has become the new library to quickly access information. If a question pops up in our head, we just
have to Google it and we instantly get the answer. How did Google become so popular and
successful? The Google search engine became popular because of its superior algorithm that produces
quick and relevant search results. Google used its search engine s popularity to capitalize using ads
called Adwords and AdSense. As a result, the Google search engine is the most successful and widely
used search engine in history.
The Google search engine was designed by two Stanford University graduates Larry Page and Sergey
Brin. An article in St. James Encyclopedia of Popular Culture entitled Google summarizes the rise of
Google s popularity in society. According to the article, Google was initially called BackRub, but was
changed to Google in 1997; a mathematical term called googol, which is the numerical one followed
by one hundred zeros. The term reflects Page and Brin s mission to organize a seemingly infinite
amount of information on the web. In 1998, PC

Drinking Water Act Of 1974
Lead in our Drinking Water
All the controversy about the lead problems in Flint, Michigan has stirred up questions across the
country. Every day there are several news stories about cities across the country discussing the lead
issue and how they meet the requirements of the Safe Drinking Water Act. While the average person
may feel comforted by these news stories, it doesn t mean that every home served by the water supply
has lead below the EPA s recommended action level. It s the job of water treatment professionals to
educate those served by municipal water about the regulations surrounding lead and copper and what
those consumers can do to protect themselves further.
The rules for lead and copper have changed over the years, so let s start at the beginning. Lead was
originally regulated under the Public Health Service Act of 1962, which established a guideline of
0.050 mg/L (ppm) for lead in drinking water. This was carried over into the Safe Drinking Water Act
of 1974. It wasn t until 1991 that regulation changed significantly under the Lead and Copper Rule.
This rule regulates how public water supplies must deal with the potential of lead and copper in the
drinking water. Additionally, there is also the Reduction of Lead in Drinking Water Act, which
regulates the amount of lead that can be in products that could come into contact with drinking water,
like pipes, plumbing fitting, fixtures, solder and flux.

Evaluation Of The Systems Functions, Vulnerabilities, And...
SCADA Systems is considered a vital aspect of Critical Infrastructures, which is tied to all other
Critical Infrastructures. In the modern age where automation is emerging as a normal part of daily
function, the need for a system to monitor and control these automated processes is required. While
automation yields an overabundance of benefits such as reduced operating costs and efficiency, it is
not without flaws. SCADA Systems are like any other program in the sense that it is vulnerable to
attacks. As the automation continues to evolve, security threats will parallel the growth and demands
innovative protection methods. This paper will provide an overview of SCADA Systems functions,
vulnerabilities, and protection suggestions.
What is SCADA and why do we as a society need it? Supervisor Control and Data Acquisition
(SCADA) systems are a distributed network over a large geographic area to control industrial
automated services. Some examples are the electric energy systems, nuclear energy systems, water
and sewage treatment facilities, and transportation systems. Think of a factory with a foreman
overseeing production. The foreman is monitoring employee s activities to ensure the production is as
efficient, safe, and of the highest quality possible.
SCADA is a program that could be considered a foreman of all Critical Infrastructures (CI) programs
by monitoring and control each individual systems processes. Just like the factory foreman, SCADA

The Medieval Feudalism System
Feudalism is a relationship between a lord and his vassals to provide service and resources for each
other. The feudal system emerge as dominant political and social system in medieval Europe, because
it provided the vassals with security by their lords.
In one instance, The fiscal burdens of feudalism took any form deemed suitable by the lords:
payments in cash, in kind, in labor services, or in military services (Goldsmith). After the Vikings
raided many homes and cities, many people didn t have much money to protect themselves. To ensure
protection, they find lords who are able to protect them. In return, the vassals do military service, pay
taxes, and do labor for their lords. However, while the lower class are working hard to benefit the
king, they don t gain anything from the king or their lords. For example, if the king needed knights to

chivalry is significant in the feudal society. If the king or the lord are not courageous, loyalty and

Color Coding
Color coding appears to have a significant effect on human beings ability to identify and recognize
labels (Wichmann, Sharpe Gegenfurtner, 2002). Color increases an individual arousal. That is, human
beings retain more information when it is presented in color rather than black. Furthermore, arousing
events have the ability to increase memory. Color coding also causes perceptually inconspicuous
information to stand out, making it more salient. A research study was conducted to investigate the
outcome of color coding on learning; and to study why learners do better when using color coded
materials instead of monochrome materials (Ozcelik, Karakus, Kursun Cagiltay, 2009). In this study,

Internship Reflection Essay
My Reflection: I have been very lucky to complete an internship with Wayne County Bank this
summer. It was a rewarding experience and I have gained valuable knowledge that will be beneficial
to me as I continue to pursue my career in Finance. Growing up in a small town with a bank that truly
serves our community is inspiring. As a high school student, I volunteered to help WCB in any way
needed at the Relay for Life or any other activity they hosted. The work day in the Bookkeeping

the day. Some of our business customers have requested that they receive a fax of the return as soon as
it is processed so that they may take the appropriate actions on their end. The biggest part of my job
was answering all the customer phone calls. At any point in the day, a customer might call to ask about
their account. I answer the phone and assist the customer with anything they need. Customers usually
want to know their current balance or if a check has entered their account yet, but sometimes they
want to know about the last few transactions so I go over those and give them the information they are
requesting. Many of the same customers call frequently so I began recognizing their voices and they
started referring to me as the man in bookkeeping since the other Bookkeeping employees are women.
Personally, I think that knowing the customers and their needs helps to maintain the home town
banking that WCB is well known for around our community and the surrounding areas. I enjoy
speaking with and assisting our customers, many of them I see and know personally around the town.
It is nice to establish these connections

The Key Concepts Of Psychoanalysis By Sigmund Freud
Psychoanalysis was founded by Sigmund Freud (1856 1939). It is also known as Insight orientated
therapy. The aim of psychoanalysis therapy is to make the unconscious conscious. Our unconscious
mind is where we keep our deep dark demons that we do not want to face. So, psychoanalytic therapy
forces the patient to tap into these unconscious feelings through techniques such as free association,
dream analysis and transference. There are several key concepts in psychoanalytic theory for us to
remember in order to understand the psychoanalytic theory. The First key concept was that people are
deterministic which means they are wired at birth. Corey(2009) stated that people are influence by
instincual drives. And they are born with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also, there are some differences between how the relationship between therapist and client in classical
and contemporary psychoanalytic theory. The classical analyst would praise the role of the expert by
standing outside the relationship, comments on it, and offers insight producing interpretations.
Whereas, contemporary psychoanalyst involve with the client more than classical analyst. They think
that the relationship of the client and therapist would not grow if it detached and nonparticipating.
Therefore, contemporary therapists view their emotional communication with clients as a useful way
to gain information and create connection (Luborsky et al., 2011). Another difference between
classical and contemporary psychoanalytic theory would be that classical theory would focus on the
root of the problem which emerge from the past childhood experiences of the unconscious mind of the
client whereas for contemporary theory would not only focus on the past experiences of the client but
also focus on the present problems of the client. Therefore, the therapeutic relationship would not be
productive if they therapist would be in the expert role and not involve in this therapeutic relationship
in contemporary psychoanalytic

When it comes to the constitutionality of the individual mandate many of the bills supports will look
to the commerce clause and seek justification for its passage. This portion of the debate is not just
about health care, but instead about the scope and power of the federal government; if the courts
decide that the individual mandate is constitutional and therefore grant the federal government the
power to force citizens to buy a product from a private company in order to protect them , then the
existence of the constitution will become negligible. Before the adoption of the constitution the states
were reluctant to ratify it on the basis that they felt that it might grant too much power to the federal
government to which James Madison, the writer of the constitution, wrote The powers delegated by
the proposed Constitution to the federal government are few and defined. Those which are to remain

The Importance Of Colors In Gilead
Imagery, particularly when describing beautiful colors before Gilead and contrasting them with the
dull colors described in Gilead reveal how drastically life has changed. Offred mentions that in the
past when she took her daughter to get ice cream, everything was colored so delicately, pale orange,
pale green, pale pink and that her daughter, dressed in similar ice cream pastels would choose her treat
by the color (Atwood 165). In life before Gilead, colors were vivid and cheerful, something to make
objects more enjoyable to look at. People could wear whatever color they please, and colors had no
additional meaning to them other than to show people had freedom to make their own decisions.
However, in Gilead, color imagery shows the lack of decision and the rigid societal structure the
government imposes. Each group has their own colors even in minor aspects of life, such as with
umbrellas categorized as black, for the Commander, blue, for the Commander s Wife, and the one
assigned to [Offred], which is red (Atwood 9). Each color labels members of the society as part of a
certain category and defines their roles without further consideration. Here, colors serve as a way to
restrict peoples freedoms unlike when colors previously served as way to enhance freedom of choice
and expression. In Gilead, The women... are color coded to strip them of their individual identities and

Civilized Society In Brave New World
In the novels Brave New World by Aldous Huxley and The Dispossessed by Ursula K. Le Guin, the
authors depict their versions of a civilized world. In both worlds, society allows [its people] to enjoy
so called rights and deprive [them] of others (Biddle 2012). Similarly, both authors introduce an
outsider to each of the collective societies. In Brave New World, the main protagonist, John, is the
outsider from the Savage Reservation being brought into the civilized World State. In the same way,
Le Guin introduces Shevek as the outsider being brought into the planet Urras. Additionally, John and
Shevek both share a common goal, which is to change the civilized societies. Although they share this
goal, they plan on doing it in different ways. However, both John and Shevek are unsuccessful in
achieving their goal. Thus, the authors criticize that even in a civilized society, the collective is much
stronger than the individual and is therefore not capable of change.
First of all, in Brave New World, John is the ultimate outsider to civilization because he is a hybrid
between the two societies that are presented in the novel, thus making him an individual. His ... Show

Group Disconnection
During the initial stages our classes group process meeting, group member interactions brought to the
surface this notion of responsibility. For the purposes of confidentiality, I will refer to the individuals
as member X and member Y. Member X was asked by the group leader to elaborate on a feeling by
using one word. Although done in a caring way, member X was not able to completely grasp the
request without storytelling. For the purposes of achieving more congruency in expression, the group
leader used caring confrontation. Subsequently, this skillful application of confrontation, while
keeping the focus on the present, allowed member X to go deeper in self expression. In addition,
member Xs willingness to trust (1) the leader, (2) the process, and (3) self, also assisted in the
outcomes possibility. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a result, there was an immediate reaction regarding the apparent disconnection. In this instance, the
group leader expressed her observation and used facilitation in inviting the group to share their
feelings. Despite this, member Y s verbal and non verbal cues remained out of sync. With both
member s, the group leader demonstrated caring confrontation, giving feedback, and facilitation.
Caring confrontation when expressing the conflict between the verbal and non verbal cues and the
blockage of in depth self expression. Giving feedback when encouraging the other group members to
give feedback. Lastly, facilitating when encouraging the member s to establish a goal around the issue
discussed. In spite of the group leaders, non abrasive, non intimidating approach, avoidance behavior

The Civil War Museum Of New Orleans
The Civil War museum located in New Orleans is a very interesting museum to visit. On the outside
the museum stands out from the surrounding building as it has an older brick style building which
almost looks like a church in some aspects.. On the right side of the stairs that lead up inside is a large
cannon on display. Upon entering the museum it is made apparent that the building is in good
condition, but is also very old. Every step that I took while in the museum sounded as if the floor was
about to cave in underneath my feet. I was greeted upon entry to the museum and I paid my entry fee
and was given a sheet of paper with some general information on the museum. Once leaving the desk I
walked along the wall to my left which was covered in glass cases that contained a multitude of civil
war artifacts. The first thing that stood out to me was a small set of hand carved wooden chess pieces.
They were kept in great condition, along with the bag that held them, aside from one hole in the bag
itself. Above the glass cases were Civil War flags for different regiments with a particular focus on the
Louisiana based regiment. Once I looked at the array of flags on left wall I focused my attention back
to the glass cases again. The further down the wall I progressed the more personal items I came across.
Uniforms and tokens given to soldiers from both the Confederates and the Union soldiers were on
display with plaques inside giving biographical information on the

RIAS Intellectual Assessment
The literature reviewed indicated there is an absence of consensus or discussion in the education
literature about the characteristics of high ability in different curriculum areas, relatively few practical
studies of gifted and talented enrichment education and placement of advanced learners; much of the
literature is limited and the result of individual, albeit well motivated, practice; and consequently,
evidence based policy and practice are scarce. Instead, much of the literature reflects individual
experience and/or impression. While this is important and valuable, it is different from rigorously
conducted research studies for longitudinal end results. Previous research focused on the perception of

The proposed study would be a cause and effect correlation study because I want to compare the
results of students with honors class education to those who are in special group setting (namely
gifted), where all members of their class are high achievers.
The method I would use for my study will be a quasi experimental design based on non equivalent
group design. This will be used because it requires a pretest and post test for my treatment (Gifted)
and comparison group (Honors), and I will be working with established intact groups. I chose this type
of design since I will be using comparable classrooms. I will also incorporate an auxiliary instrument
of a survey for teacher perceptions.
Mortality: This study will compare existing raw data. This will deter any threat to mortality.
Testing: Each group will be given the same computerized assessment. The assessment questions will
be taken from the district s proficiency exam for English I. These questions are categorized by
standards and have been used on previous state

Silver In Alloy Essay
Analysis of Silver in an Alloy
Introduction
In this experiment an alloy of silver will be analyzed to determine its silver content. The silver copper
alloy will be dissolved in nitric acid, the silver will be precipitated as silver chloride, and the silver
chloride will be filtered, washed, dried and its mass determined. From the mass of the silver chloride
formed and the mass of the original sample, you will be able to calculate the percent of silver in the
alloy. Because the results are based on the mass of a product, this procedure is classified as a
gravimetric analysis.
Silver and copper are very nonreactive metals. Neither will dissolve in hydrochloric acid or sulfuric
acid. The oxidizing acid nitric acid, HN03, is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While in table 1 it is shown that we had to round to two decimal places lacing a small error. And not
only that but also the fact that as table 2 shows that the final amount needed was .0131 g less to the
actual mount that we added from table 1. During the procedure our percent error must of have come
from loosing the silver ions. After heating we had to wash the moisture of the watch glass back into
the beaker and there could have been a possibility that we didn t wash of all of the silver back into the
beaker. When it precipitated, some of the particles may have peptized causing us to filter out some of
the silver chloride precipitate. Also when removing the filter paper from the buchner funnel some of
the precipitate may have been lost, which is just due to human error. Which all experiments have.
Discussion
In the lab you must first dissolve the alloy in nitric acid; if the allot doesn t completely dissolve it may
cause some error in your final result because not all of your silver ions were dissolved. You then must
make a solution of distilled water added with sodium chloride. Once you calculate the amount of
sodium chloride needed you must double the amount for the experiment to push the reaction to a full
completion. This essentially should precipitate all of silver and none of the copper. No accurate
balance is needed to measure out the sodium chloride because as long as you have an excess of

Questions On The Periodic Table
INTU Statement
I need to understand the various arrangements of elements and its similarities to the periodic table
given in the Nelson Chemistry 11 textbook.
Periodic Table
The periodic table is the chemicals arranged in order of increasing atomic number and grouped with
similar chemical properties. There are 7 periods and 18 groups in the periodic table. The periodic table
used in the textbook has a total of 118 elements.
About Dmitri Mendeleev Dmitri Mendeleev also known as the Russian scientist who was born in
Tobolsk, Siberia. Mendeleev was one of 17 children in his house hold. He is known for the periodic
table we use today which was created in 1869. Although at the time he only had 65 elements, his
periodic table was the one that stood out the most with, elements organized in increasing atomic
weight and grouping them by similarity of properties. Throughout the years more and more elements
were being discovered and in total there are 118 elements. What Dmitri did to discover the periodic
table was that he wrote all of the 65 elements on separate cards and wrote the atomic weight along
with the properties. He re arranged the cards so that he could find a pattern which he did and wrote it
on a piece of paper. He later on published the periodic table in the Principles of Chemistry in 1869.
Dmitri also received many awards one example was the Chair of General Chemistry at the university
of Saint Petersburg.

The Personality Of The Stranger In The Stranger By Albert...
Emmanuel 1
Emmanuel Cann
Mr. David
English IV
10/16/17 The Stranger
The Stranger was originally written by Albert Camus in French. It was later translated into English
and some of its meaning must have been lost. The original title was L etranger which translates
loosely to many different words. Meursault is a character of scarce conversation, as well as emotion.
But Meursault shows clear evidence of sociopath that is not conscious of his mind or his emotions.
Maman died today Or yesterday maybe, I don t know (Camus 3) That doesn t mean anything, Maybe
it was yesterday. The opening sentences of the stranger exemplify Meursault s existential character.
Which therefore leaves him with an emotional indifference and a detachment from the people around
him and his complete detachment from the rest of society around him.
Meursault is an odd character, he is portrayed to the point that he can no longer return to his current
emotions. Meursault seems as if he isn t able to think for himself seeing that there were countless
incidents where Raymond who is his neighbor, was able to persuade Meursault. ( I ve got some blood
sausage and some wine at my place. How about joining me? ). I figured it would save me the trouble
of cooking for myself, so I accepted, It s very typical for Meursault to jump into a relationship with
someone he just met and not for any good

An investigation on the use of ink and charcoal as a medium, as well as movement over time, in the
Time Series by Patricia March.
The works of Patricia March are predominantly charcoal works, with smaller aspects of ink, whilst
portraying insight of character, as well as how the body moves over a period of time. March uses the
perception of a figure moving, portraying the figure on one picture plane; but moving, as if this were
over a period of time. Figures appear walking or picking up an object and this is portrayed as one
character becoming three. In each different movement the figure is in a different position, as if moving
like in a real life situation. This reinforces the name of her series, Time, as it literally perceives a
figure or a few figures and their movements over a period of time. March studied a master in
cinematography. She was interested in movement and time, so since, she tried to apply her vision
about cinema into drawings. The movement of the people drawn, reminds me her some way to

The scope of the creative experience was influenced mainly by Patricia March as her ideas influenced
the idea of charcoal and ink drawings, as well as left hand techniques. Her works allowed the
exploration of new mediums and techniques, of which I had not used before. March also played a big
role in influencing visual diary work and the direction of which I took when researching other artists.
It is seen in resolution, that Patricia March, as well as her Time Series, created in 2011, have been a
great influence, when involving aspects such as similarities, differences, technique, medium, the depth

Analysis Of Harley Davidson s Life
Summary of analysis and recommendations.
Harley Davidson has been operating as a U.S. motorcycle manufacturer since 1903. Throughout its
life, it has been through many hardships, but just as many successes. Throughout the 1970s and 1980s
Harley Davidson experienced tremendous difficulties and almost went bankrupt in 1985. To its
dismay, in the 1990s Harley Davidson experienced several years of record growth and was ranked in
1990 by BusinessWeek as one of the top U.S. companies with a market value of $515 million. As a
sign of their success, they remain the only U.S. motorcycle manufacturer still in business. Harley
Davidson has competed in the U.S. and international markets against 140 other manufacturers, most of
which were larger and far better financed then they were. In 1985, Harley Davidson was emerging
from its hardships and growing as one of the top five motorcycle manufacturers in U.S. market shares,
while also having 31% of its sales coming from overseas. Its international sales were increasing as
they had partnered with a European parts warehouse in Germany and a joint venture in Japan. In
addition to these relationships, it had also partnered with 851 U.S and international dealerships.
As a business, Harley Davidson focused on three major business segments 1) motorcycles and related
products; 2) transportation (both recreational and commercial); and 3) defense and other businesses. In
order to continue its success as a motorcycle manufacturer, the

Temperate Deciduous Forests Research Paper
Temperate Deciduous Forests are located in the north eastern[21] half of America, [22] middle of
Europe, many places in Asia, and southwest Russia. They have a decent [23] amount or precipitation
at about 30 to 60 inches of rainfall a year. [24] Making it the second rainiest biome in the world. They

half of America so this is the biome we live in as well. It is also home to many different plant and
animal species because it is all over the world.
The Snowy Owl is one of many bird spices [27] in the temperate deciduous forest. It s about 6lbs, 26in
long, and has a wing span of 4.7 to 5.4in long[28] . They feed on mostly smaller animals and birds.
They also get their name from the color of their feathers. Their feathers are also one of their
adaptations. With the white and somewhat grey color of their feathers [29] blending in with the snow
of America s winters and the snowy areas of Russia is very easy for them. Another adaptation is that
unlike some birds these owls will occasionally nest in the ground. They will dig in the side of a hill or
ridge and use frozen moss and the snow to keep it hidden from any predators.[210] ... Show more

Once in a while a truly exceptional person has made a mark on the growth of mankind. Dorothea Dix
was an exceptional woman. She wrote children s books, she was a school teacher, and she helped
reform in prisons. Some of her most notable work was in the field of making mental health institutions
a better place for the patients that lived in them. Dorothea Dix gave a great deal to humanity and her
achievements are still being felt today, especially in the treatment of those with mental disabilities.
Dix started out though with very humble beginnings. Dorothea Dix was born in Hampden, Maine in

When she returned to Boston she asked her grandmother if she could start another school in her

1835, but she became sick with tuberculosis and also exhaustion had set in. Because of her illness she
closed the school and then traveled to Europe to recuperate, under the advice of her friends and family.
She again returns to Boston, months later, but this time she found herself with a very large inheritance
that would allow her to love comfortably for the rest of her life.4
She realized that she was not the type to sit back and do nothing, so she accepted an invitation to teach
at a Sunday school at the East Cambridge Jail in East Cambridge, Massachusetts in 1941. That s when
her quest began. She was shocked when she saw that mentally ill patients were being put into the jails,
and even more appalled at the conditions they were put in. This is where Dix helped humanity in a
giant way. She made it public about the ways that those with mental and physical handicaps were
being treated. Dix wrote, Men need knowledge in order to overpower their passions and master their
prejudices. 5

The Clash Of The Titans
THE CLASH OF THE TITANS
The War of 1812 The War of 1812 began as a result of a long fought war between Great Britain and
French forces led by Napoleon Bonaparte, that eventually infringed upon many of America s rights.
France and Great Britain had been fighting since 1793. Napoleon was a very powerful and determined
emperor who conquered much of Europe during the 19th century. The Royal Navy was very skilled at
naval combat and France had a strong and capable leader that was very skilled in war tactics. The
United States wanted the trade from both countries so it stayed neutral during the war. However, the
U.S. became a more active participant due to forced trade sanctions and Britain s impressment of
American seamen. The war is known as the War of 1812 because that is the year that America
declared war on Great Britain, but the war was actually started approximately three years earlier when
tensions between the Americans and the Indians escalated over westward territory expansion. Indian
problems, trade sanctions, impressment all fueled the start of the War of 1812. The Americans took a
neutral stance in this war and traded with both sides, Great Britain and France. Great Britain and
France both tried to stop the trade between the Americans and the other party, however, Great Britain
tried to restrict American trade with France by issuing the Orders in Council Act in 1807. This order
required companies to get a license before trading with France and French

Analysis Of The Documentary Blackfish
Sea World rebuttal was not considered in the documentary of Blackfish which clearly defines the bias
views of the creator. So without choice, viewers are marked to take the side of the creator or leave the
documentary feeling like a kid in a fine china shop, unable to touch or lose your balance for fear of
shattering the look of the shop. Unfortunately, the problem with animal activist groups is that they
force their religious views of animals on others with no other biases to consider. Hence, their real
arguments are skewed and we are unable to clearly see the real poignant side without the opinions.
There are significant arguments on both sides of the issue, but the real issues are keeping the animals
in captivity, keeping them alive, keep the cycle of life continuing to grow and produce all that nature
intended. Many believe for the purpose of learning more about ourselves as humans with have the
right to explore our possibilities with the similarities of those of the mammal species. Theses people
argue for the acceptable need for capturing the animals in the wild and keep them in a protected
environment, there are several points to stated and generally cited. Theses include:
Captivity kills orcas. Very few captive orcas make it to midlife (approximately 30 years for males and

  • 2. The Effects Of Concussion On Young Athletes Concussion in Young Athletes Tennessee State University Kenji Anderson Introduction When youth participate in sports, they are at risk for multiple types of injuries. One of the most common and dangerous sports related injuries is concussions. Although concussions are one of the most visible sports injuries, it is often hard to diagnose. Symptoms of a concussion can be vague and uncertain, which can inevitably lead to more harm to an athlete. Athletes who play with concussions can face great consequences if they are not removed from play. The effects of obtaining or playing with a concussion may not be recognized early on but rather over time. The control disease center reported that that reported concussions have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A connection between the knowledge concerning concussions and obtaining a concussion injury has not been confirmed. Although football may have the most contact in sports, female soccer players have a higher concussion rate than any other sport (Preidt P.1, 2015). The contact of the soccer player s head to the ball is the direct cause of the concussion. Since there is no protective gear guarding the soccer player s head, it is more likely to obtain a concussion due to direct contact to the head of the player. Diagnosis Catching the symptoms of sports related head injuries is crucial to preventing further injuries from happening. The symptoms of concussion can include emotional, physical, and mental aspects. The signs of a concussion can vary, which can lead to some missed diagnosis (Whyte, Benton 2013). When diagnosing a concussion physicians or athletic trainers look for certain cues to help confirm a diagnosis. The cues can include headaches, feeling of being in a daze, and mood alterations. Some signals that might coincide with the others will include loss of consciousness, behavioral changes, and slowed reaction times to situations. The physical signs of a concussion will be the easiest to recognize. The emotional and cognitive aspects will not be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Truman Report And The American Community College The Truman Report and the American Community College Introduction The President s Commission on Higher Education was formed with the basis of exploring the purpose and the need for Higher Education and the role it played in society. During 1947 there were many issues affecting not just Higher Education but the nation as a whole. Foreign policy was in disarray, the threat of a Cold War with the Soviet Union and issues such as the post effects of World War II and Civil Rights had a huge impact on the home front. According to Wolfe (1994), there was a growing need of Americans that wanted to be educated; however the country was not equipped with the tools that were necessary to provide these sources. The report highlighted several key areas that would be the catalyst for Community Colleges, Societal Issues, the Role of Community Colleges, and the future of American. Response to Higher Education Societal Issues The increase in enrollment in high schools resulted in more individuals making the decision to further their education. As a result of the increase in attendance, the commission found that the amount of students attending school did not match with the current needs. This could be attributed to factors such economic backgrounds, individual student finances, and the amount of money that was invested in higher education, as a result, the commission revealed that there was a lack of funding that was invested towards education. It s oddly comforting in a way to know that even with the ever changing hi tech gadgets of today, somethings over time, do not change. The way people react to new ideas and inventions and how they impede those innovations. Egos can get in the way of where a new idea ends up and how advanced that idea becomes. In addition, the notion that something can be replaced with a newer and improved model has not changed in over 100 years. It seems that radio would have made faster and more advanced strides if it wasn t for the egos of the three men that forged it. Lee de Forest, Edwin Armstrong, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Persuasive Essay On Snow Removal The gift that my group performed for the community of Juneau, Alaska is snow removal. The group consisted of my two most trustworthy peers Marcos Yadao and Mitchell Laudert. We all understood that living in a small tight knit town such as Juneau; the smallest of tasks can have the biggest impacts. That is when the light bulb in our intellectual brains and the idea of snow removal came to mind. It was an appropriate job for the winter season. With heavy snow flurries in the forecast, this would be an achievable accomplishment. With the service in mind our next step was to pick a location. We did not want to select the wealthy neighborhoods because the residents there would probably be financially able to pay for such services. The location that we settled on was not a poverty stricken area, but the homes consisted of elderly residence. To avoid complications with the occupants of the home and explain our reasoning for the free service we wanted to only do homes were the residence weren t present. That did not hold up to a standard when we actually got around to carry out the service. The whole point of going out and helping people of Juneau with their snow blanketed driveways, walkways, and porches too was to gain self respect and also to prove to the world that good can come from anything and anywhere too. The reason that I believe that volunteer work and work in general is vital to success in the today s world and society is because the generation that I am apart of is lack of a better term lazy. The motto of the entitled generation is procrastination is key. The most important part in forming a generation comes from the parents. The outcome of a generation s attitude always leads back to the source (the parents). Volunteer work in present time is very important for the youth, but is equally as important for adults too. Some local organizations in Juneau are Love Incorporation, Helping Hands Healing Hands LLC, Saint Vincent De Paul, and Southeast Alaska Regional Health Consortium (SEARHC). It is a non profit organization that provides health care for residents of Southeast Alaska. Saint Vincent De Paul is an organization that provides housing for low income families in Juneau, Alaska. • 7. Jig and the Stream of Life in Hemingway’s “Hills Like... I see many people as I wander through the streets, yet I can only hear silence. I see couples getting into a restaurant, order, check their smartphones, eat, and I wonder why they do not look up, face each other and genuinely communicate. What I perceive, are men and women living not with, but next to each other. This is exactly what I imagined when I read Hemingway s Hills Like White Elephants . A couple waiting to catch a train and as they sit and drink some beers, they start talking about Jig s pregnancy and the option of abortion. However, all I can hear is silence because they simply do not speak the same language. They are both living in different worlds filled with divergent ideologies and opinions. As a result, the words do not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While the American, a practical man, looks at things in the function of their practicality and possesses little imagination. Furthermore, he is dominant, a know all and a manipulator to the bone. He takes care of the luggage, speaks Spanish and orders the drinks, not Jig. When sitting in the bar drinking some beers, she looks off at the lines of hills and remarks: They look like white elephants, she said. I ve never seen one, the man drank his beer. (251). I think Jig is referring to a concept, using figurative language for a white elephant is, in fact, an idiom for a rare thing of which the cost exceeds its value. In this perspective, it is an intertextual reference to the yet unborn baby. For the practical American, the baby is just a costly thing, but Jig does not share his view. She values life and nature. In contrast, her lover is talking about a real white, albino elephant. He cannot comprehend what Jig is referring to. When Jig utters her disappointment about the poor taste of the Anis del Toro, they have a quarrel that ends with him saying that they should try and have a fine time (252). Yet the way he puts it sounds more like a demand, an imposition. As the discussion goes on whether or not to abort the child, the American even appears to know that Jig wouldn t mind to do it. A matter that is clearly linked to women, nonetheless, he knows: it s all perfectly natural (253). When, in fact, you could question ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Relationship Between Body Art And The Catholic Church Body Art and the Catholic Church I have always wondered if the Catholic church approved of tattooing and body piercing. I am not the type of person that most people think of when they think of tattooed or pierced individual. When I tell people that I have tattoos, people always say but you don t seem like the kind of person who would get a tattoo. I personally do not believe that certain kinds of people get tattoos and I wondered what my religion would think of my art. I have gone to a Catholic church my whole life; I am actually very active in my church. I teach a four year old CCD (or Catholic Sunday school) class and I used to play my flute in the choir. CCD registrations this year made my mind burn with this unanswered ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The author of the article even seemed to have trouble drawing the line of excessive. The author, Father Peter Joseph, states that he can not clearly say what is right or wrong, but he tries to point out facts that should be considered before becoming inked; satanic tattoos are defined as being a sin as well as tattoos that show the ugliness of the world. For example, a floral tattoo that is filled with vibrant colors can become faded and ugly over time, therefore even the most beautiful tattoos can become ugly. The text also says that tattoos and piercing are considered to be self mutilation. Father Peter Joseph said that The human body was not made by God to be a pin cushion or a mural (Joseph). I did not agree with this text at all. I think that the person who wrote this was trying to say that tattoos and body piercing are wrong, but he didn t want to literally say that. He tiptoed around the issue so that all tattooed or pierced people appeared to be vain sinners. The information that I found so far was not helping me answer my question. I wanted to find a site that had normal people answering my questions. I didn t like the priests approach to the topic, so I searched the Catholic Answers Forum. Want to find out how to officially join Justin Bieber fan club? Google it. Want to find out who Justin Bieber is? Google it. Not long ago, people had to go to the library to search for information. Nowadays, people get their information from search engines through the Internet. Google has become the new library to quickly access information. If a question pops up in our head, we just have to Google it and we instantly get the answer. How did Google become so popular and successful? The Google search engine became popular because of its superior algorithm that produces quick and relevant search results. Google used its search engine s popularity to capitalize using ads called Adwords and AdSense. As a result, the Google search engine is the most successful and widely used search engine in history. The Google search engine was designed by two Stanford University graduates Larry Page and Sergey Brin. An article in St. James Encyclopedia of Popular Culture entitled Google summarizes the rise of Google s popularity in society. According to the article, Google was initially called BackRub, but was changed to Google in 1997; a mathematical term called googol, which is the numerical one followed by one hundred zeros. • 10. Drinking Water Act Of 1974 Lead in our Drinking Water All the controversy about the lead problems in Flint, Michigan has stirred up questions across the country. Every day there are several news stories about cities across the country discussing the lead issue and how they meet the requirements of the Safe Drinking Water Act. While the average person may feel comforted by these news stories, it doesn t mean that every home served by the water supply has lead below the EPA s recommended action level. It s the job of water treatment professionals to educate those served by municipal water about the regulations surrounding lead and copper and what those consumers can do to protect themselves further. The rules for lead and copper have changed over the years, so let s start at the beginning. Lead was originally regulated under the Public Health Service Act of 1962, which established a guideline of 0.050 mg/L (ppm) for lead in drinking water. This was carried over into the Safe Drinking Water Act of 1974. It wasn t until 1991 that regulation changed significantly under the Lead and Copper Rule. This rule regulates how public water supplies must deal with the potential of lead and copper in the drinking water. Additionally, there is also the Reduction of Lead in Drinking Water Act, which regulates the amount of lead that can be in products that could come into contact with drinking water, like pipes, plumbing fitting, fixtures, solder and flux. In the modern age where automation is emerging as a normal part of daily function, the need for a system to monitor and control these automated processes is required. While automation yields an overabundance of benefits such as reduced operating costs and efficiency, it is not without flaws. SCADA Systems are like any other program in the sense that it is vulnerable to attacks. As the automation continues to evolve, security threats will parallel the growth and demands innovative protection methods. This paper will provide an overview of SCADA Systems functions, vulnerabilities, and protection suggestions. What is SCADA and why do we as a society need it? Supervisor Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems are a distributed network over a large geographic area to control industrial automated services. Some examples are the electric energy systems, nuclear energy systems, water and sewage treatment facilities, and transportation systems. Think of a factory with a foreman overseeing production. The foreman is monitoring employee s activities to ensure the production is as efficient, safe, and of the highest quality possible. The feudal system emerge as dominant political and social system in medieval Europe, because it provided the vassals with security by their lords. In one instance, The fiscal burdens of feudalism took any form deemed suitable by the lords: payments in cash, in kind, in labor services, or in military services (Goldsmith). • 15. The Key Concepts Of Psychoanalysis By Sigmund Freud Psychoanalysis was founded by Sigmund Freud (1856 1939). It is also known as Insight orientated therapy. The aim of psychoanalysis therapy is to make the unconscious conscious. Our unconscious mind is where we keep our deep dark demons that we do not want to face. There are several key concepts in psychoanalytic theory for us to remember in order to understand the psychoanalytic theory. The Importance Of Colors In Gilead Imagery, particularly when describing beautiful colors before Gilead and contrasting them with the dull colors described in Gilead reveal how drastically life has changed. Offred mentions that in the past when she took her daughter to get ice cream, everything was colored so delicately, pale orange, pale green, pale pink and that her daughter, dressed in similar ice cream pastels would choose her treat by the color (Atwood 165). In life before Gilead, colors were vivid and cheerful, something to make objects more enjoyable to look at. People could wear whatever color they please, and colors had no additional meaning to them other than to show people had freedom to make their own decisions. However, in Gilead, color imagery shows the lack of decision and the rigid societal structure the government imposes. Each group has their own colors even in minor aspects of life, such as with umbrellas categorized as black, for the Commander, blue, for the Commander s Wife, and the one assigned to [Offred], which is red (Atwood 9). In both worlds, society allows [its people] to enjoy so called rights and deprive [them] of others (Biddle 2012). Similarly, both authors introduce an outsider to each of the collective societies. In Brave New World, the main protagonist, John, is the outsider from the Savage Reservation being brought into the civilized World State.
