Pompeii Essay
This will be a research report on Pompeii, how it was affected by the eruption of Vesuvius and how it
was designed. Pompeii was a town in Italy and would soon to become disrupted by many disasters,
and an even bigger event to follow. The eruption of Vesuvius would terrify shock and kill thousands of
people living in the town, perhaps only a handful of townsfolk had survived that fateful day. Many
tried to escape the ash, hiding in house corners, believing that they would be safe, or running towards
the shores where boats were located, but the majority of people had died on that day. Pompeii, a
medium sized town, was located about ninety miles south of Rome. Pompeii was founded in six
hundred B.C. in front of Mount Vesuvius, which stood approximately six thousand, five hundred feet
from the ground into the air. Apparently, nobody in the town was well aware that Vesuvius was an
active volcano; they didn t even know that it was a volcano until the huge eruption of Vesuvius,
leaving thousands to die. Pompeii is located on a plateau that was created by lava flow from volcanoes
around the area, then hardening to create a rock substance. The city of Pompeii was built from north to
south, Vesuvius being on the north end of the town. Vesuvius offered rich, fertile land that was suitable
for growing healthy vegetation, then would be harvested and sorted out to eat later. Southwards of
Pompeii gently flowed, the river of Sarnus, this river was very crucial towards the economic life

Impact Of Globalization On Our Society
1 Globalization is a term often used to describe the rapid advances in technology that saw a plethora
of interaction and integration among government, businesses, and people. This is how I used to think
of it, that it brought the world together and made it a better place to live. And it did, for those fortunate
enough to be living in the first world. Although globalization brought prosperity to the first world, it
was at the expense of the third world. So is it a bad thing? Is it a good thing? The answer is that it s
both, and it can be both for some and only one for others, what you get is decided by the place you
call home.
When taking globalization at face value, it s nearly impossible to see the negatives without digging for
more. This is because it s caused some of the most influential and groundbreaking moments in history.
The most noteworthy and arguably the thing that has had the most effect on our society is the Internet.
Created by Robert E. Kahn and Vint Cerf in the 1980 s, a few years later it was made accessible to the
public through the World Wide Web, created by Tim Berners Lee in 1989. The Internet gives access to
more information than any single entity on the Earth, it also allowed people communicate across the
globe in an instant. This newly interconnected globe saw massive advances in medicine, sciences, and
technology. Now that everyone in the world could collaborate without leaving home, a whole universe
of possibilities arose. One of the first

What Is Chartres Cathedral A Turning Point In Gothic...
Chartres Cathedral and St. Stephen s Cathedral
Chartres Cathedral is a medieval Catholic cathedral and Gothic masterpiece of the Latin Church that
was constructed between 1194 and 1220. It is located in the northwestern part of France and is also
known as Notre Dame of Chartres. Before the reconstruction of the Cathedral, there have been five
churches on the site of Chartres, all of which were burned down. This was seen as a series of disasters
that spurred people to rebuild. Chartres Cathedral is noted for it s architecture, sculptures and
elaborate stained glass windows.
It is not said that the Cathedral of Chartres was designed by architects, but by building contractors
who were led by men trained in the delicately complex aspects of their craft. Many people teamed up

Due to the size and elaborate structure of the cathedral, more time and effort was needed to build its
structure. The erection of Chartres Cathedral is perhaps the single most important event in the history
of Gothic architecture. Gothic structures were not seen as simplistic or regular. It was the turning point
in design and was looked upon as a complex, natural art.
Every material used for the cathedral came from the ground or from forests. The masters worked with
geometric forms and the richness of their designs were enhanced by the disciplines involved in using
geometric techniques for every decision. Geometry aided in identifying masters and understanding the
nature of their design processes. Each master unveiled a part of history by assembling all the joints
between the campaigns. Gothic architecture has many features such as pointed arches, ribbed vaulting,
flying buttresses, stained glass windows and elaborate sculptures. The original architects and masons
intended on making the cathedral a glimpse of paradise on earth. Although the architecture has minor
changes and has never been extensively rebuilt, the majority of the original stained

Media Piracy
Executive Summary
Disney and the Pirates of the Industry
I. Introduction
As a global company with high interest in both the music and film industries, it is essential that Disney
deal with media piracy effectively. With Internet access increasing globally, piracy has the potential to
create huge financial losses for Disney. In order to adequately deal with this problem, it is necessary to
comprehend the history and evolution of piracy, its impacts on music and film industries, and its effect
on the development of innovative business strategies. This brief will address various issues relating to
media piracy in order to make insightful recommendations.
II. Factors in the Evolution of Media Piracy
A major issue in business today is the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another strategy enacted by the entertainment industries is the use of digital rights management
systems (DRMS). DRMS are tools for the media industry to fight piracy by controlling access to and
usage of digital data, essentially going beyond the restrictions of copyright law by putting additional
limits on distribution of intellectual property (Fetscherin 2003). For example, the iTunes online music
store encodes its music files so that they may not be illegally copied (Dela 2005). DRMS is a
controversial topic, as many consumers claim that DRMS restrictions take away the benefits of the
digital world (Fetscherin 2003). This represents the conflict in ideology between consumers and
industries. Having said that, Disney has to preserve its competitiveness in the industry by closely
following all the technological developments associated with copyright protection. As the industry
shifts more and more towards online retail, the theme of copyright protection of digital files will
continue to recur.
The government s position in the media piracy issue is more complicated. Governments must try to
appease the industries but also face the conflict of consumer interests (Harmon 2003). This involves

Charles Perrault’s Fairytales
The Introduction:
Fairytales are stories that have some magical aspects. They usually tell a story about a castle and times
when kings ruled the land. I always loved the princesses in these stories. When I was young, I would
dress up as them. My friends and I would act out the stories. They usually teach a lesson. I always
wanted the princess to escape of find a happy ending. Most fairytales end with Happily ever after.
Stories give us a distraction and a fantasy from real life. Stories give us a somewhat perfect picture of
life. We try to make our lives reflect the story in some way. Most people even paint others as evil or
mean, like the villains in the story. This paper s purpose is to incorporate fairy tales and their ... Show

She is faced with troubles trying to prohibit her from her happy ending, of marrying the prince.
Another fairy tale that is very well liked is Little Red Riding Hood. In this story, Little Red Riding
Hood is on a quest to go to her grandmother s house. An evil wolf tricks her and ends up eating her in
the end. The readers of fairy tales have been using these stories as examples for their lives, since the
18th century.
Since fairy tales set and example for real life situations, it is important to see the naivety of the main
character is a main reason why the evil enemies are able to take advantage of them so effortlessly. In
the fairy tale, Sleeping Beauty in the Wood , the princess curiosity captivates her and she pricks her
finger, on the spindle. The evil old fairy barely had to use her magic powers on the girl. In Little Red
Riding Hood , her curiosity of the grandma s different looks and gullibility gets her close enough to
the wolf for her to be eaten, in the end. Also, in the fairy tale Blue Beard , the young wife wants to
open the locked closet door. Her curiosity guides her to do so, which leads her husband to put her in a
dangerous situation and almost death. Therefore, it is important to realize and understand the naivety
of characters in the stories and their confrontations with evil characters.
Fairy tales offer a solution to the problem faced in the story, with

Analysis Of Strange Fruit By Billie Holiday
In strange fruit, Billie Holiday reveals part of the dreadful truth and inhuman racisim of America s
past. With great imagery and description she describes the scene of lynching taking place in southern
states. Elizabeth Blair, a producer and reporter, describes the intuition of the song by stating While the
lyrics never mention lynching, the metaphor is painfully clear. From what I also have read in other
articles, Strange Fruit quickly became famous. It became known as the original protest song as Peter
Daniels describes in his analysis of the record. Several artist later recored the song as a cover,
including Josh White, Abby Lincoln, and a few others. This record definitely played a role in the civil

Analysis Of How Junk Food Can End Obesity
Elisabeth Wilgenburg Teresa Ishigaki English 3 15 September 2014 An Analysis of How Junk Food
can End Obesity David H. Freedman, a consulting editor for John Hopkins and author of several
books, writes in How Junk food can End Obesity about the dangers of ruling out Fast Food as a way to
decrease obesity in society. He argues that using nutrients to gauge the healthiness of a food is an
adequate way to increase health in society, and that most healthy foods contain a lot of unhealthy
ingredients that do not promote health. He also advocates small changes of about 50 100 calories in
meals to encourage people to stay on their diets and promote long term weight loss. He also points out
the severe monetary difference between health foods and fast food. He ultimately wants to promote
using the forum of food in society to decrease obesity in society, rather than making the large leap
from junk food to whole, natural foods. Freedman s argument is a claim of value, because he wants
people to change their view point from looking down on obese people for their dietary decisions and
focus on encouraging the food industry to cut back on calories in food. Near the end of the article, he
does support for government action, but it was more of an afterthought rather than a call for action. He
even provides evidence that taxation has not always worked; Denmark did manage to enact a fatty
food tax, but it was deemed a failure when consumers went next door into Germany and Sweden to

Traditional Learning Organizations
Introduction Peter Senge is a Senior Lecturer at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is the
author of the widely acclaimed book The Fifth Discipline: The Art and Practice of the Learning
Organization (1990). He can be said to be responsible for the popularity of the concept of a learning
organization today. Peter Senge argues that not only we humans learn, but organizations also.
However, learning itself may not be enough for the organization to survive in this ever challenging
era. In his book, The Fifth Discipline, Senge introduced five disciplines , namely systems thinking,
personal mastery, mental models, building shared vision, and team learning, that characterizes an
organization as a learning organization. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A learning organization allows all employees to have input in how the organization works. A
traditional organization tends to be more bureaucratic and formal. This culture places importance on
efficiency and stability. Employees have no or very little say in the organization and only do as they
are told. Besides that, there is a clear difference in how both organizations are led. In a learning
organization, the leadership is somehow spread out across the organization. Formal leaders do not
dictate but listen to the employees and guide the organization in the desired direction through shared
visions and goals. In a traditional organization, every single process is done formally under the
instructions and dictation of the topmost management. Employees are assumed to be incompetent thus
do not make any decisions at all; the leaders are in charge of that. In terms of assessment of overall
performance, a learning organization assesses its performance through learning histories, their
creativity and innovativeness, the extent of their long term goal achievement and share accountability
for the performance. A traditional organization only care about numbers. Performance is assessed
through how much profit is made, was the target achieved, and is there too many employees. These
are short term effects which may make the organization efficient but does not necessarily help it grow
and improve. The organization is rigid and feels stiff . A learning organization

Essay on Biography of Saint Francis of Assissi
Biography of Saint Francis of Assissi
1. Birth
Saint Francis was born Giovanni Bernadone in either 1181 or 1182 in the
Italian hill town of Assisi. His parents, Pietro and Pica, were members of the rather well to do
merchant class of the town. Pioetro Bernadone was away in
France when his son was born. On his return, he had the boy s name changed from
Giovanni to Franceso ( The Little Frenchman perhaps a tribute to France, a country he loved and from
which his wife s family came). Saint Francis of Assisi, was born in 1182, more probably in the latter
year. His mother s family, which was not without distinction, may originally have hailed from

He could admire his father, honest and worthy, but an austere man, taking up where he laid not down,
reaping where he had not shown. Drama also rendered his secret dream, the realization of the
chivalrous life. The exploits of Charlemagne s paladins and the Knights of the
Round Table were already familiar throughout Italy, and code of knightly behavior was known and
honored, if little practiced. Francis s imagination disported itself in the enchanted world of
knighthood; and all his life he used the language of chivalry and appealed to its ideals.
After Francis had attained manhood and developed his native discernment, he devoted himself to the
profession of his father, who was a merchant. Yet this he did in his own way. Merry and generous by
nature, ever ready for jest and song, he roamed the town of Assisi day and night with his comrades and
was most prodigal in his spending to such and extent that he used all the money allowed him and all
his earnings for banquets and festivities. For this reason his parents frequently remonstrated with him,
pointing out that he was living in such style with his friends that he no longer seemed to be their son,
but the son a great prince. Yet as his parents were wealthy and loved their son tenderly, they allowed
him to have his own way rather that disturb him.

Does Medea Deserve Sympathy Essay
In Euripides Medea, there are moments when a specific character is deserving of sympathy, and
instances when they don t deserve any sympathy at all. In the beginning, Medea deserves sympathy
due to her husband leaving her for royalty and another woman. However, neither characters deserve
sympathy when Medea s tells of her plans of killing her children, and Jason s want for Medea to

The Meditation Health Benefits Of The World
Mediation is an ancient method that practices deep concentration of the mind and it has recently made
its way back into our modern society. By participating in the age old activity one opens their mental
and physical wellbeing to multiple benefits. It did to my mind what going to the gym did to my body
said Dr. Hedy Kober, a neuroscientist who studies the effects of meditation, it made it both stronger
and more flexible. (Meditation Health Benefits). Meditation is a practice that may train one s mind to
be at a state of consciousness and wholeness. Throughout history Buddhist monks and other eastern
religions have been utilizing this practice for religious purposes, however recently individuals have
been testing it out for themselves. One does not have to mediate for religious purposes, this phnaoman
can be used to lower stress levels, cure anxiety and panic disorders, learn to handle stressful situations
better, and help to control anxiety, sharpen one s mind, improve memory and critical thinking and
reverse depression. The Buddhist religion is what shined the light on the process of mediation from
the start. Buddha, the head of the Buddhist religion, first began to spread his teachings in 500 B.C
(Iml.jou.ufl.edu). His teachings did not begin to educate the rest of the world until the mid 20th
century (Iml.jou.ulf.edu). After Buddha s teachings became more widespread other religions begun to

The Prussian government subtly subverted the minds of its citizens to believe that it knew how to care

My Story About My Daughter
So I have come here to tell you guys about my daughter and request some assistance from you, I
guess. Last night sort of shook me a little bit and I am at a loss mentally about what to do. I have an 8
year old daughter, Amber, who shares a multitude of personality traits in common with me. One of my
favorites is the use of wanton sarcasm pretty much 100% of the time. I keep telling my wife, Jennifer,
that it s a sign of intelligence; she ll just roll her eyes and reminds me that she constantly has to
explain the process of moving shit in the fridge to find other shit to the both of us. I guess that means
we aren t all that smart. However, like I said, I didn t come here to gush over my love for my daughter.
Yesterday morning pretty much started how it usually does with me struggling to get my wife and
daughter up and ready for work and school respectively. My wife is more of an uphill struggle than
Amber is most of the time. It really only gets bad if she doesn t get a restful sleep. This day was
apparently one of those days indicated by the three trips I made into her bedroom to annoy the shit out
of her until she woke up. The more I tried to probe into why she was so tired she met it with a
significant amount more resistance. Sometimes you have to pick your battles, so I dropped it. We had
plans to go to a fair in central Ohio that I had been excited for all year. It was two hours away from
our house but I hadn t been in so long that the drive seemed worth it.

Porters Competitive Forces
There are many factors that drive competition within the car rental industry. Price competition may
not be the only factor; as companies are focused on implementing a value system and long term
profitability. In addition, most companies are gradually lessening their focus on their airline operations
and focusing on leisure rentals.
Threat of potential entrants is low since the established car rental companies have continued to
increase their market share. Plus, their competition is fierce within the car rental industry. Alternatives
to Business Car Rental include video conferencing, virtual teams, collaborative software, personal cars
and public transport. Supplier power within the rental car industry is low. Suppliers do not have a
significant influence in supplying cars as there are many.

point of the story saying that no matter how rootless and cheap street life may be, you could still be
broken by departures (21). Consequently, Jigana begins feeling guilty that Maisha is leaving, as if he
could have stopped her from leaving if he had just joined a street gang so that she wouldn t be tempted
by the musungu men to make money. Jigana then starts to have nasty thoughts, now blaming the white
tourists who lure Maisha in their Jaguars and take advantage of her young self. He begins plotting
ways he could get back at them, by enlisting the help of Naema s powerful boyfriend, and hurting
them with their dull blades.

Mexican People And Misrepresented In The Mexican People
Many times, Mexican people are misrepresented in the media whether it s a person writing a racist
remark on social media, the president speaking ill of Mexican people, or just people blaming Mexican
s for stealing jobs from them that they didn t want to do in the first place. Even the Mexican people
born in the United States are criticized just as much as immigrants are because of their race, name, or
just because they may look like the typical Mexican to other people but how can someone try to
marginalize other documented citizens for such simple characteristics? It s sad and upsetting to see
how a single person can corrupt most individuals to believe such remarks made towards my Mexican
community to get votes for a presidential election. Trump as we all know it has made many remarks
towards Mexicans while running for office and this sparked a racial conflict between Mexicans vs the
people who support his mindless verbal attacks, when Trump was running for office he made this
remark that stood out to me a lot, When Mexico sends its people, they re not sending their best... They
re sending people that have lots of problems, and they re bringing those problems with us. They re
bringing drugs. They re bringing crime. They re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people .
Mexico does not send anyone, Mexican people must fight against desert climates and a dangerous
river known to Mexican people as El Rio Grande (the Grande river) that travels for miles to get across

NIBIN And IAFIS Research Paper
The NIBIN, IAFIS, and CODIS are all databases that the forensic scientists use. Each of these are

Ballistic Information Network while the IAFIS stands for the Integrated Automated Fingerprint
Identification System. Lastly the CODIS stands for the Combined DNA Index System. All of these are
different and help forensic scientist study crime scenes or individuals to access and try to put an end to

Each day, someone in the world dreams anywhere from a few seconds up to thirty minutes. He or she
will experience a good dream and a bad dream in his or her lifetime. Why do people dream? Scientists
still do not know why people dream, but some studies say dreams are beneficial for us and help us in
different ways. Certain types of dreams occur with different stages of sleep, such as lucid dreaming,
nightmares, daydreams, false awakenings, etc. Dreams also help us express our feelings and relieve
stress built up throughout the day. While little is known about why people dream, researchers have

Should Companies Bear The Corporate Social Responsibility...
Should companies bear the corporate social responsibility of employment practices among the

This essay will illustrate why the specific ethical issue is essential, analyse further ethical question,
define current comprehension of ethical issues, analyse the act of ethical utilitarianism by forecasting
three important positive and three important negative consequences, and should companies bear the
corporate social responsibility or not.
Firstly, the corporate social responsibility (CSR) has been argued since the 1950s and the definition of
CSR is continually changing. It also demonstrated as resolving social issues (Wood and Logsdon
2002). Because CSR is focusing on estimating the social economy, which depends ... Show more

managerial approach, a few of negative consequences happen like protests, boycotts, and strikes. The
third theory is which elements will affect employee s commitment. Towers Perrin (2009) figured out
that community advancement is the third most significant driver of employee engagement.
For example, in America, company s competence is the second most considered factor, and the
following factor is the company s duty for workers in general. In conclusion, CSR theories such as
utilitarian, managerial and relational approaches are commonly using. Thirdly, in the global world, as
a result of multinational employment, there are a plenty of CSR issues that are even much complex
and difficult that before. One of the issues is extra legal which is voluntary, not compulsory. Because
of the voluntary, sometimes big companies do not follow the rule of CSR. For example, the famous
brand like Nike faces tremendous pressure in order to be liable to employees. They arouse acrimony
through the indirect business strategies such as providing low cost conditions to labours. Hence, to be
capable achieving liable, companies need to be responsible. In

events in which he describes how football was saved from the notorious brutality the sport was once

element in the restructuring of football. While Roosevelt had never taken an interest to playing

Star Basketball Player By John Updike
In the poem Ex Basketball Player, John Updike recounts the timeline of a once great basketball player
named Flick Webb. The journey starts with a description of Flick s hometown, then shares details
about his current job, next it reflects on his high school basketball success, and finishes with his habits
outside of work. In the first stanza, the poet is describing the town where Flick lives. Updike
references trolley tracks which would imply an early 20th century setting. He also calls out the name
of the garage specifically, Berth s Garage. This implies that Flick lives in a small town because small
towns named their gas stations after the owner, unlike big cities. In the third stanza, he talks about
Flick playing high school basketball. Updike goes on to mention that in one season he scored three
hundred and ninety points, a county record. The third stanza talks about how magnificent Flick was at
basketball. The narrator indicates that he witnessed at least one such game when he noted, I saw him
rack up thirty eight or forty in one home game (Updike, 17 18). The countermotion of the poem
occurs in the fourth stanza, which starts out by stating, He never learned a trade, he just sells gas (19).
In this line of the poem, Updike reveals the tone of the narrator as sad and disappointed. With no
education to fall back on, when a professional basketball career does not come about, Flick spends his
life working at a gas station. The former player s current life is described

The Physiological Effects of Renovascular Hypertension...
Renovascular hypertension, also known as renal hypertension, is a condition in which chronically
elevated high blood pressure is caused by a narrowing of the renal arteries. The renal arteries are the
arteries that bring blood to the kidneys (9). This blood is processed by which the kidneys filter the
blood, removing some substances and sometimes adding others. The kidneys also have several
functions, which can be negatively affected by renovascular hypertension. One function is the
regulation of water and ion balances within the body. In order to do so, the kidney is also responsible
for the removal of waste products and foreign chemicals from the blood by excreting them in the form
of urine. Another function of the kidneys is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Concept 1: Renal Artery Stenosis as the Cause of Renovascular Hypertension
Renovascular hypertension is most commonly caused by prerenal factors, which are conditions that
result in a decrease in blood flow to the kidney, which is also known as hypoperfusion. In many cases,
the prerenal factor that causes renovascular hypertension is renal artery stenosis. Renal artery stenosis
is defined as the narrowing of the renal artery that produces a decrease in blood flow into the kidneys
(3). Renal artery stenosis is most often caused by atherosclerosis (1). Atherosclerosis occurs when
there is a buildup of fatty substances within the walls of the arteries, which is what causes the
narrowing. The fatty substances, like cholesterol and triglycerides, harden over time and become
plaque, which increases the resistance of the arteries by decreasing the circumference, but also by
making the arteries less elastic (5). When arteries are less elastic, they are unable to expand and recoil
properly, which causes stiffening. Factors that can lead to atherosclerosis include a poor diet that is
high in fat, physical inactivity, and cigarette smoking (1). When the narrowing of the renal artery
occurs, there is a decrease in blood flow

should not cross the professional boundary by questioning the doctor about his/her diagnosis. On the
other hand, it is the right of the patient to know the real problem, and get the medical care that he/she
deserves. Especially in case of radiologic procedures, the patient has no way of determining whether
the procedures have been performed properly or not. The consequence of the misdiagnosis by a doctor
can even be life threatening for the patient, if the appropriate medical care is not provided at the

The United Bill Of Rights Essay
http://www.coloradolaw.net/scholarship
The United Bill of Rights is perhaps one of the most important pieces of constitutional legislation that
protects the rights of the individual to freedom, liberty, and personal autonomy by limiting the powers
of the federal government. While most people and the media discussions surrounding the Bill of
Rights usually clusters around the 1st and 2nd Amendments, the 7th Amendment is also an integral
component in limiting federal power, which aids in transferring the power of government from the
concentrated hands of a few to instead the people. However, the 7th Amendment plays a less
significant role in affecting the day to day lives of the average American in today s time than it did
when the Bill of Rights was initially ratified in 1791, and may even be considered obsolete in the
modern world.
The 7th Amendment is fairly straightforward in meaning and intention, but has important implications
in terms of limiting federal power. There are two important elements of this amendment. The first
component, known as the Preservation Clause, declares: In Suits at common law, where the value in
controversy shall exceed twenty dollars, the right of trial by jury shall be preserved. This is the part
most people know, which details in what situations a jury is needed for trial. The second component,
known as the Re examination clause, states: no fact tried by a jury, shall be otherwise re examined in

The Old British Empire s Influence On Modern Museums Essay
The sun never sets on the British Empire is a phrase that is known all too well in regards to British
Imperialism and colonization spanning over Africa, Asia, North America, Australia, and Europe. Over
the years, England in particular, has had a major influence across the world as a global superpower by
sharing its own technology, culture, religion and more. But as much as they have shared, they have
also taken to enrich their own society with artifacts, designs, foods, and other aspects of the foreign
culture. This dynamic between Great Britain and each colonized country has immensely shaped
modern British museums by expanding the content in museums as it relates to imperialism,
diversifying the artifacts collected from other countries, and the influences it has had on British
society shown through museums collections. The old British Empire s influence on modern museums
also raised many issues for contemporary curators and audiences concerning museums glorifying
imperialism, the ethically of keeping these collected artifacts, and if the museums have a subtle
underlying imperialistic bias.
To understand why imperialism is such a prominent theme in British museums it is important to
understand the history of British Imperialism in the first place. In the 15th and 16th centuries Portugal
and Spain were leading imperialist powers, sailing the seas and discovering new land and becoming
wealthier from the treasures these places held. After learning of the success

any United States figure skater (Milton 103). She won her titles in 1996 and from 1998 2005
(Michelle). She was fifteen years old when she won her first title (Ramback 7). Also, Kwan is the
fourth youngest and the tenth oldest United States champion is history (Milton 101). She competed at
her first United States Championships at the age of twelve in Phoenix, Arizona in 1993 at the junior
level after winning Regionals and getting third at Sectionals. At her first Nationals she forgot to polish
her skates, which is a very important thing to do at Nationals especially. Not only did she forget some
major steps in competing at Nationals, but both of her programs were a mess and she ended up getting
ninth place (Kwan 45). Kwan has earned a total of forty two 6.0 marks at the United States
Championships which is three times more than any other United States figure skater (Milton 103). A
6.0 mark was a perfect score from the judges up until 2004 when the federation changed the judging
system. Not only did Kwan win many National Competitions, but she won many International
Competitions as well. She has won a total of nine World Championship medals which are five gold,
three silver, and one bronze (Milton 103). Kwan was

I used my many different techniques for my papers throughout the term. Some of the techniques and
methods were more helpful than other techniques and methods. I excelled at some method that James
D. Lester recommended to try and I failed at some other methods that she recommended. They were
some methods that I haven t grasp yet and can definitely work on in the future. In this paper, it will
showcase what I did well at during the writing process of writing a research paper and what I could

It is always very helpful to know a little more on the subject that I am about to be writing about and
having a little bit more knowledge while I am writing. Also, doing some formal research usually leads
me to find some arguments and examples that could help support my case and to make the case that I
am discussing a little bit stronger argument. I usually do some research by reading books, reading
articles online, finding statistic information, and some scientific research and other things. After doing
a little of research on the subject, I make a plan how I am going to organize my paper. I decide where I
am going to spread my points to support my case, which examples are weak vs strong then afterward I
decide which example I am going to use in each paragraph and evaluate if it is appropriate for the
paragraph. To continue, in chapter one, we learn that doing research is a crucial part of writing you

To Be in America
A young man, no older than seventeen, rises in the morning, reluctant and restless, to attend school, to
witness diversity and socialize, and to learn, as mandated by those governing his country, the United
States of America. He walks into his kitchen to grab breakfast before he leaves, grudgingly
acknowledging a lecture from his mother and father about the evils in the twenty first century the
prevalent drugs on the street, the rampant violence, the abhorrent depiction of sex in the media,
socialism. When he senses the end of the lecture he is hardly listening he waves goodbye and gets into
his car. In the fifteen minutes it takes for him to weave through traffic to reach ... Show more content

There is truth in the comprehension that the particular nation in question is an amalgamation of
several issues and just as many admirable qualities; it is the identification of the aforementioned
qualities and the understand of their relationship to each other that defines the quality of life here.
As a millennial caught in what was arguably one of the nation s more drastic transitions, the
knowledge about what is done differently awakens an awareness about how deeply the roots of pride
in America have corrupted moral values and respect for humankind. The values of both good and bad
capitalism, and to an extent, neo liberalism which is also extremely attractive to the public because of
its principle of enabling friendly competition between businesses, which permits individuals
practically unlimited levels of personal freedom, giving them the chance to create and expand
businesses and achieve what, for decades, has been called The American Dream . On top of that, many
academics have made a distinction between what they deem good and bad capitalism. Good capitalism
appears to be founded in nations of social democracy where the social costs which businesses carry...
enable them to function as social institutions without undermining the cohesion of the larger societies
in which they operate. In turn, these costs are compensated for through the

Analyzing The Poem My Papa s Waltz
My Papa s Waltz In this poem, the poet portrays the memory of his father negatively. The father is
dominating and over controlling his son into dancing the waltz, much to his discomfort. He states such
waltzing was not easy (4) but I hung on like death: (3). The speaker is a child subjected to oppression
by his father. The poem reveals to the reader of an oppressive father who has to operate his way
regardless of his son s feelings. Normally, waltz is not difficult dance but the poet reveals that the
father makes it difficult for the son. He notes that his father waltzed him off to bed while he still
clinging to his shirt (17 18). The main conflict expressed in this poem is that of a father who is
possessed by dancing the waltz, to an extent that he forces his child into it with no regards to how he
feels about it. The poem also portrays a mother who could not intervene My mother s countenance,
Could not unfrown itself (7 8). One word, which I do not understand the context at which it is used, is
romped . The speaker put his comfort at ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The poet notes Then waltzed me off to bed suggesting that family was almost retreating to bed. The
poem has numerous shifts. The first stanza portrays a child who is afraid of his father The whiskey on
your breath, Could make a small boy dizzy (1 2) which shifts into a friendly tone as the family romped
until the utensils fell. The third and fourth stanzas also shift as the poet describes the mishandling he
underwent from his father until he slept. This creates mixed shifts and emotions across the poem. The
poet uses imagery to describe the experience he was undergoing with his father, eliciting the feeling of
sympathy from leader. He states But I hung on like death (3), and My right ear scraped a buckle (14)
to portrays how he could not escape the oppression of his father.

  • 3. Pompeii Essay This will be a research report on Pompeii, how it was affected by the eruption of Vesuvius and how it was designed. Pompeii was a town in Italy and would soon to become disrupted by many disasters, and an even bigger event to follow. The eruption of Vesuvius would terrify shock and kill thousands of people living in the town, perhaps only a handful of townsfolk had survived that fateful day. Many tried to escape the ash, hiding in house corners, believing that they would be safe, or running towards the shores where boats were located, but the majority of people had died on that day. Pompeii, a medium sized town, was located about ninety miles south of Rome. Pompeii was founded in six hundred B.C. in front of Mount Vesuvius, which stood approximately six thousand, five hundred feet from the ground into the air. Apparently, nobody in the town was well aware that Vesuvius was an active volcano; they didn t even know that it was a volcano until the huge eruption of Vesuvius, leaving thousands to die. Pompeii is located on a plateau that was created by lava flow from volcanoes around the area, then hardening to create a rock substance. The city of Pompeii was built from north to south, Vesuvius being on the north end of the town. Vesuvius offered rich, fertile land that was suitable for growing healthy vegetation, then would be harvested and sorted out to eat later. Southwards of Pompeii gently flowed, the river of Sarnus, this river was very crucial towards the economic life ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Impact Of Globalization On Our Society 1 Globalization is a term often used to describe the rapid advances in technology that saw a plethora of interaction and integration among government, businesses, and people. This is how I used to think of it, that it brought the world together and made it a better place to live. And it did, for those fortunate enough to be living in the first world. Although globalization brought prosperity to the first world, it was at the expense of the third world. So is it a bad thing? Is it a good thing? The answer is that it s both, and it can be both for some and only one for others, what you get is decided by the place you call home. When taking globalization at face value, it s nearly impossible to see the negatives without digging for more. This is because it s caused some of the most influential and groundbreaking moments in history. The most noteworthy and arguably the thing that has had the most effect on our society is the Internet. Created by Robert E. Kahn and Vint Cerf in the 1980 s, a few years later it was made accessible to the public through the World Wide Web, created by Tim Berners Lee in 1989. The Internet gives access to more information than any single entity on the Earth, it also allowed people communicate across the globe in an instant. This newly interconnected globe saw massive advances in medicine, sciences, and technology. Now that everyone in the world could collaborate without leaving home, a whole universe of possibilities arose. One of the first ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. What Is Chartres Cathedral A Turning Point In Gothic... Chartres Cathedral and St. Stephen s Cathedral Chartres Cathedral is a medieval Catholic cathedral and Gothic masterpiece of the Latin Church that was constructed between 1194 and 1220. It is located in the northwestern part of France and is also known as Notre Dame of Chartres. Before the reconstruction of the Cathedral, there have been five churches on the site of Chartres, all of which were burned down. This was seen as a series of disasters that spurred people to rebuild. Chartres Cathedral is noted for it s architecture, sculptures and elaborate stained glass windows. It is not said that the Cathedral of Chartres was designed by architects, but by building contractors who were led by men trained in the delicately complex aspects of their craft. Many people teamed up in the making ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Due to the size and elaborate structure of the cathedral, more time and effort was needed to build its structure. The erection of Chartres Cathedral is perhaps the single most important event in the history of Gothic architecture. Gothic structures were not seen as simplistic or regular. It was the turning point in design and was looked upon as a complex, natural art. Every material used for the cathedral came from the ground or from forests. The masters worked with geometric forms and the richness of their designs were enhanced by the disciplines involved in using geometric techniques for every decision. Geometry aided in identifying masters and understanding the nature of their design processes. Each master unveiled a part of history by assembling all the joints between the campaigns. Gothic architecture has many features such as pointed arches, ribbed vaulting, flying buttresses, stained glass windows and elaborate sculptures. The original architects and masons intended on making the cathedral a glimpse of paradise on earth. Introduction As a global company with high interest in both the music and film industries, it is essential that Disney deal with media piracy effectively. With Internet access increasing globally, piracy has the potential to create huge financial losses for Disney. In order to adequately deal with this problem, it is necessary to comprehend the history and evolution of piracy, its impacts on music and film industries, and its effect on the development of innovative business strategies. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another strategy enacted by the entertainment industries is the use of digital rights management systems (DRMS). DRMS are tools for the media industry to fight piracy by controlling access to and usage of digital data, essentially going beyond the restrictions of copyright law by putting additional limits on distribution of intellectual property (Fetscherin 2003). For example, the iTunes online music store encodes its music files so that they may not be illegally copied (Dela 2005). DRMS is a controversial topic, as many consumers claim that DRMS restrictions take away the benefits of the digital world (Fetscherin 2003). This represents the conflict in ideology between consumers and industries. Having said that, Disney has to preserve its competitiveness in the industry by closely following all the technological developments associated with copyright protection. As the industry shifts more and more towards online retail, the theme of copyright protection of digital files will continue to recur. The government s position in the media piracy issue is more complicated. Governments must try to appease the industries but also face the conflict of consumer interests (Harmon 2003). In this story, Little Red Riding Hood is on a quest to go to her grandmother s house. An evil wolf tricks her and ends up eating her in the end. The readers of fairy tales have been using these stories as examples for their lives, since the 18th century. Since fairy tales set and example for real life situations, it is important to see the naivety of the main character is a main reason why the evil enemies are able to take advantage of them so effortlessly. In the fairy tale, Sleeping Beauty in the Wood , the princess curiosity captivates her and she pricks her finger, on the spindle. The evil old fairy barely had to use her magic powers on the girl. With great imagery and description she describes the scene of lynching taking place in southern states. Elizabeth Blair, a producer and reporter, describes the intuition of the song by stating While the lyrics never mention lynching, the metaphor is painfully clear. From what I also have read in other articles, Strange Fruit quickly became famous. It became known as the original protest song as Peter Daniels describes in his analysis of the record. Several artist later recored the song as a cover, including Josh White, Abby Lincoln, and a few others. This record definitely played a role in the civil rights movement, especially considering ... • 11. Analysis Of How Junk Food Can End Obesity Elisabeth Wilgenburg Teresa Ishigaki English 3 15 September 2014 An Analysis of How Junk Food can End Obesity David H. Freedman, a consulting editor for John Hopkins and author of several books, writes in How Junk food can End Obesity about the dangers of ruling out Fast Food as a way to decrease obesity in society. He argues that using nutrients to gauge the healthiness of a food is an adequate way to increase health in society, and that most healthy foods contain a lot of unhealthy ingredients that do not promote health. He also advocates small changes of about 50 100 calories in meals to encourage people to stay on their diets and promote long term weight loss. He also points out the severe monetary difference between health foods and fast food. He ultimately wants to promote using the forum of food in society to decrease obesity in society, rather than making the large leap from junk food to whole, natural foods. Freedman s argument is a claim of value, because he wants people to change their view point from looking down on obese people for their dietary decisions and focus on encouraging the food industry to cut back on calories in food. Near the end of the article, he does support for government action, but it was more of an afterthought rather than a call for action. He even provides evidence that taxation has not always worked; Denmark did manage to enact a fatty food tax, but it was deemed a failure when consumers went next door into Germany and Sweden to ... He is the author of the widely acclaimed book The Fifth Discipline: The Art and Practice of the Learning Organization (1990). He can be said to be responsible for the popularity of the concept of a learning organization today. Peter Senge argues that not only we humans learn, but organizations also. However, learning itself may not be enough for the organization to survive in this ever challenging era. In his book, The Fifth Discipline, Senge introduced five disciplines , namely systems thinking, personal mastery, mental models, building shared vision, and team learning, that characterizes an organization as a learning organization. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A learning organization allows all employees to have input in how the organization works. A traditional organization tends to be more bureaucratic and formal. This culture places importance on efficiency and stability. Employees have no or very little say in the organization and only do as they are told. Besides that, there is a clear difference in how both organizations are led. In a learning organization, the leadership is somehow spread out across the organization. Formal leaders do not dictate but listen to the employees and guide the organization in the desired direction through shared visions and goals. In a traditional organization, every single process is done formally under the instructions and dictation of the topmost management. Employees are assumed to be incompetent thus do not make any decisions at all; the leaders are in charge of that. In terms of assessment of overall performance, a learning organization assesses its performance through learning histories, their creativity and innovativeness, the extent of their long term goal achievement and share accountability for the performance. A traditional organization only care about numbers. Performance is assessed through how much profit is made, was the target achieved, and is there too many employees. These are short term effects which may make the organization efficient but does not necessarily help it grow and improve. The organization is rigid and feels stiff . A learning organization ... Francis s imagination disported itself in the enchanted world of knighthood; and all his life he used the language of chivalry and appealed to its ideals. After Francis had attained manhood and developed his native discernment, he devoted himself to the profession of his father, who was a merchant. Yet this he did in his own way. Merry and generous by nature, ever ready for jest and song, he roamed the town of Assisi day and night with his comrades and was most prodigal in his spending to such and extent that he used all the money allowed him and all his earnings for banquets and festivities. For this reason his parents frequently remonstrated with him, pointing out that he was living in such style with his friends that he no longer seemed to be their son, but the son a great prince. From there, their life continues, and the siblings continue struggling to make ends meet; nevertheless, they still take Baby out to earn a little extra money. The journey starts with a description of Flick s hometown, then shares details about his current job, next it reflects on his high school basketball success, and finishes with his habits outside of work. In the first stanza, the poet is describing the town where Flick lives. Updike references trolley tracks which would imply an early 20th century setting. He also calls out the name of the garage specifically, Berth s Garage. This implies that Flick lives in a small town because small towns named their gas stations after the owner, unlike big cities. In the third stanza, he talks about Flick playing high school basketball. Updike goes on to mention that in one season he scored three hundred and ninety points, a county record. The third stanza talks about how magnificent Flick was at basketball. The narrator indicates that he witnessed at least one such game when he noted, I saw him rack up thirty eight or forty in one home game (Updike, 17 18). The countermotion of the poem occurs in the fourth stanza, which starts out by stating, He never learned a trade, he just sells gas (19). In this line of the poem, Updike reveals the tone of the narrator as sad and disappointed. With no education to fall back on, when a professional basketball career does not come about, Flick spends his life working at a gas station. The former player s current life is described ... • 32. The Physiological Effects of Renovascular Hypertension... Renovascular hypertension, also known as renal hypertension, is a condition in which chronically elevated high blood pressure is caused by a narrowing of the renal arteries. The renal arteries are the arteries that bring blood to the kidneys (9). This blood is processed by which the kidneys filter the blood, removing some substances and sometimes adding others. The kidneys also have several functions, which can be negatively affected by renovascular hypertension. One function is the regulation of water and ion balances within the body. In order to do so, the kidney is also responsible for the removal of waste products and foreign chemicals from the blood by excreting them in the form of urine. Another function of the kidneys is ... Concept 1: Renal Artery Stenosis as the Cause of Renovascular Hypertension Renovascular hypertension is most commonly caused by prerenal factors, which are conditions that result in a decrease in blood flow to the kidney, which is also known as hypoperfusion. In many cases, the prerenal factor that causes renovascular hypertension is renal artery stenosis. Renal artery stenosis is defined as the narrowing of the renal artery that produces a decrease in blood flow into the kidneys (3). Renal artery stenosis is most often caused by atherosclerosis (1). Atherosclerosis occurs when there is a buildup of fatty substances within the walls of the arteries, which is what causes the narrowing. The fatty substances, like cholesterol and triglycerides, harden over time and become plaque, which increases the resistance of the arteries by decreasing the circumference, but also by making the arteries less elastic (5). When arteries are less elastic, they are unable to expand and recoil properly, which causes stiffening. Factors that can lead to atherosclerosis include a poor diet that is high in fat, physical inactivity, and cigarette smoking (1).
