Stop And Frisk, Automobile Searches, And Border And...
Though the Fourth Amendment can lay the foundation of the laws of search and seizures and warrants,
there are still many controversies as to what is classified as a violation of an individual s Fourth
Amendment rights. However, the wording of the Fourth Amendment can be confusing as different
individuals interpret privacy in various ways. Terms that may be interpreted differently in the Fourth
Amendment can include: 1) right of privacy, 2) search, 3) seizure, 4) arrest, and 5) reasonableness.
This paper will examine how each term relates to the practice of stop and frisk, automobile searches,
and border and regulatory searches. The rights of privacy are described to be personal belongings or
home. As defined in Merriam Webster (2015), the right to privacy is the legal right of a person to have
reasonable privacy whereas their private affairs are not made known, or their likeness to be made
public in regards to that person s habits, mode of living, and occupation. Individuals may call upon
their rights of privacy when they believe that those rights have been violated. Situations like this may
occur when an officer searches an individuals property, or their person when performing a stop and
frisk. However the fact remains that when individuals are guilty of violating any law, those rights are
then diminished to a degree. When performing any search and seizure, law enforcement must have a
warrant. Situations when a warrant is not needed would then fall under the Good Faith

Human Contact Research Paper
Everyone has seen it. There are always those people who are way to busy looking at their cell phones
to pay any attention to other people. These people are so immersed in their screens that they avoid
human contact at all cost. This situation seems to be on the rise with the spread of technology to all
age groups in various social classes. The limitation of human contact due to the increase of technology
has caused a negative effect on people s lives because it lowers the communication skills of the
average person, and it has made people uncomfortable in social situations. To begin, technology,
causing a decrease in human interaction, has had a negative effect on people s lives because it lowers

With less practice communicating, people in today s society may struggle with or have lower
communication skills. Communication is one of the most important skills to have, and it needs to be
developed to be successful in life. Next, the limitation of human contact caused by technology has had
a negative effect on the lives of people because it creates an uncomfortable setting in social situations.
With forms of communication that don t require a face to face conversations on the rise, people have
had less experience talking to others in person. This means even in casual activities like a party, some
may feel uncomfortable in the social setting. Also, the inexperience in communicating may effect
people in the professional setting. If someone has a big pitch to give at their business, the practice of
face to face conversations would come in handy making you more comfortable in those situations. In
contrast, some may say that less human interaction has had a positive effect on the lives of humans
because new technology has allowed people to contact others whenever they need. However, this
point may be taken with a grain of salt because when you use your cell phone to instant message
someone, you are able to think over what

Will Hydrating Before Exercise Really Improve Athletic...
Introduction Athletes everyone always hear you have to stay hydrated: make sure you drink plenty of
fluids , etc., but what does that actually mean, and what does it do to improve athletic performance.
Our bodies require adequate amounts of water in order to survive because water regulates our body s
temperature, transports nutrients, and circulates blood throughout our entire bodies. If our bodies loose
too much water we become dehydrated. During exercise, our bodies sweat out a lot of the water in our
bodies. Too much water loss can lead to dehydration, which can potentially decrease the athletic
performance, physically and mentally and lead to serious injury and illness (1). Will hydrating before
exercise really improve athletic performance? Discussion Hydration is very important and plays a
major role in athletic performance, both the physical and mental (4). In order to function at peak
performance our bodies must have sufficient amounts of water in order to work properly. ... Show

A person becomes dehydrated when the fluid loss in their body exceeds two percent of that person s
body weight (2). Even the lowest level of dehydration can have major effects on athletic performance;
a loss of just two percent body loss can lead to a reduction in performance by ten to twenty percent
(6). Dehydration greater then three percent of body weight extremely disturbs physiological function,
and increases that risk for heat related illness (1). If you are going to let your body become dehydrated
while working out, there will be more harm then good that comes from it, and it would defeat the
purpose of working out in the first place. Dehydration impairs training quality and also increases
stress levels in that individual

The Future Of Legal Business
The Future of Legal Business International Law Firms
What does John Doe, managing partner of a typical international law firm headquartered in London,
think at the moment? His partners have asked him to come up with a three year plan to strengthen the
firm s position in its home market and internationally. How to start? Times are tough, clients please
themselves by putting pressure on costs, demand is stagnating, income growth is hardly recognizable,
and profits are coming under pressure. Should he read any of these smart books or articles dealing
with development of legal markets?
Well, looking at his bookshelf leads to immediate depression: Richard Susskind s The End of
Lawyers? , Larry Ribstein s The Death of Big Law , Bruce MacEwen s Growth is Dead , Mitch
Kowalski s Avoiding Extinction , Steven Harper s The Lawyer Bubble , Stephen Mayson s Law Firm
Partnership The Grand Delusion , Laura Empson s Partnerships Will They Survive? ...
What do these books and articles tell him? All of these academics with their catchy book titles are not
entirely helpful. Who has the crystal ball? Ah, Mr. Doe has interviewed many managing partners who
should know what they are talking about, but what is this? The crystal ball contains a dark and gloomy
smoky premonition: The Magic Circle, the colloquial term for the U.K. s leading law firms, is
predicted to disappear within the next decade. This doesn t irritate our John Doe, as his firm does not

Essay On Montgomery Bus Boycott
The Montgomery Bus Boycott was successful due to the dedication and hard work of the black
community because if they had not had anything like heart, dedication, courage or hard work they
would have never made a difference.
According to Reading Like a Historian, the textbook states King and the others called for a black
boycott of the Montgomery bus system. The boycott meant blacks refused to ride the buses. For
months, the buses were almost empty because most of the riders had been black. Then, the boycott
spread to white businesses in downtown Montgomery. .During the 1950 s they believed that white
people were more important so they discriminated but the bus boycott was successful due to the

LIFE, TIME, CBS, NBC, and countless other papers have been down here covering it. I think it is the
first time that a whole Negro community has ever stuck together this way and for so long and I think
they are going to win it. The quote shows how a major variety of white companies are picking up on
the movement by showing that a difference is being made by the boycott and that there are even white
supporters speaking their opinions.
Once again reading like a historian is stating Freedom doesn t come on a silver platter. With every
great movement toward freedom there will inevitably be trials. Somebody will have to have the
courage to sacrifice. You don t get to the Promised Land without going through the Wilderness. You
don t get there without crossing over hills and mountains, but if you keep on keeping on, you can t
help but reach it. We won t all see it, but it s coming and it s because God is for it. . They quote tells
on the basics of life like you can t get anywhere without hard work or nothing comes easy but together
people can make a difference in which they did during the Montgomery bus boycott.
Overall the Montgomery Bus Boycott was successful due to the dedication, heart and hard work of the

Time Essay
Time
Time is defined as a measured or measurable period, a continuum that lacks spatial dimensions. This
broad definition lacks the simple explanation that humans are searching for. There are many scientists,
philosophers, and thinkers who have tried to put time into understanding terms. The aspects of time
that we can understand are only based on what we can perceive, observe, and calculate.
Every day we look at our watches or clocks. We plan our day around different times of the day. Time
tells us when to eat, when to sleep, and how long to do things for. If time were based on these simple
terms, then this mysterious enigma would not be in debate. There are the issues of space and time;
what is the relationship ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When space and the universe began, the existence of time also began. This theory is well known as the
Big
Bang Theory. About fifteen billion years ago, the universe was comprised of very hot compressed gas,
as a fireball.
This is contrary to the idea of the universe beginning as a lump of matter somewhere in the void of
space. Matter was created as a result of the Big Bang. Space and time was also created. So, with these
ideas, time had a beginning.
Looking at it a different way, in the early universe, the normal concept of time is uncertain. Our
accepted perceptions, and calculations of time can t be explained all the way back to the Big Bang.
There is no way to define time in that era. This is another way that time has a beginning; as far back as
we can calculate. Space time began at the same time. According to Hawking, you can t look at the
universe using general relativity without finding a big bang or something similar to that at the very
beginning. So what does time mean to people now? Time is different as you go through time zones.
Everyone has their own perception of time. Nobody is ever on the same schedule, doing things exactly
like another person. Even to go as far as other galaxies and planets, time cannot be existing on the
same terms. In short, time is not absolute.
In the space time continuum, space bends whenever there is a mass. It s kind of like a bowling ball
hitting a

Rape Is A Serious Problem
Only rapists know when they will strike their prey with sexual assault. The victims, both men and
women, never see themselves in such a situation. But, what if both the victim and rapist are equally to
blame in that situation? What if women could be able to and should do everything they can to prevent
being raped? Is it possible that victims are not doing everything they can to prevent rape or defend
themselves when they are being violated? The argument of to whom the fault actually belongs to has
been a long occurring ordeal that perhaps may never be resolved. Rape is a serious problem, which is
why it is one of the most highly debated topics in today s society and media. Many actors and
actresses have spoken out against rape, some are even victims. There has also been a growing amount
of concern towards women expressed by many anonymous Twitter accounts. Those accounts have
helped make teenagers and other social network users more aware of rape culture.
According to the Marshall University Women s Center, rape culture is an environment in which rape is
prevalent and in which sexual violence against women is normalized and excused in the media and
popular culture ( Women s Center marshall.edu page 1). Women believe that rape culture is
emphasized through arrogant language, women being objectified by men, the overuse of television
sexual violence, and teaching the victims not to be raped instead of teaching the rapist not to rape.

Iron Curtain Chapter Summary
The advent of high altitude reconnaissance, to include aerial and satellite platforms, had at least as
much impact on US intelligence efforts as the Ultra SIGINT intelligence program had on Allied
intelligence efforts during World War II possibly even greater. The Iron Curtain of the Cold War
served to not only keep people in, but prevent almost any attempted penetration by Western
intelligence agencies. Western powers knew the Soviet Union had ambitions to spread communism to
neighboring nations and intended to do what they could to minimize and contain the communist swell.
In order to succeed, the United States would have to better understand Soviet intentions and
capabilities as well as deter the Soviet threat through military posture. However, the United States had

Source Anonymous Research Paper
Sit tight for the journey ahead as I explain to you, on my coffee induced, sleep deprived binge writing,
the ethics of source anonymity in journalism for the purpose of this paper, I will be writing about
Canada specifically. More specifically, I will touch upon the following: What is the reliability of the
source? Why would a source have to be kept anonymous? To what extent does a journalist keep a
source confidential? Firstly, I will go on to briefly describe the Canadian Act that protects whistle
blowers (the term used to describe someone who brings an issue to light, almost always in their
organization) and the shield law. Next, I will be discussing the ethics in keeping a source anonymous
from the utilitarian point of view, as well as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As stated in the CAJ Ethics Guidelines, under Promises to Sources, it is important to discuss with a
source wanting to be kept anonymous whether or not you, as a journalist, are willing to go to jail for
keeping them anonymous when ordered by a court. It is important to discuss with your source that, if
they mislead or lie to you about anything they say, the promise of keeping their anonymity is off.
There have been many cases of journalists going to jail for keeping a source anonymous, even in the
face of the law. If this doesn t show principle, then I don t know what does. There is also the aspect of
acting from duty: a journalist has the duty of reporting to the public in order for them to know the
truth about what s happening in the world. The right thing to do is to keep the source anonymous if it
means that an important story or high classified information will be out for the public to know it is
their right to know. In this perspective, a journalist does not look at their personal consequences
possible incarceration but on the nature of their action to liberate the truth. They have the good
intention, which makes it deontological. If we take a look at the first form of the categorical
imperatives, it follows this as well because of the way they act: keeping a promise they made. A
journalist also has true freedom because they have the autonomy to put themselves in a position of
being in a bad situation with the law, using their rationality to weigh the options of leaking a good
story or the possibility of suffering consequences for

Close To Jesus
How involved can a person be in ministry and still do not have a personal relationship with Jesus?
How close can someone be to Jesus and still not know Him? How close can someone be to the truth
and still do not believe it? How close can someone be to the gospel and still do not accept it? How
close can someone be to heaven and still not go in? How close can someone be to Jesus and then give
his heart to the devil? How much can you know about Jesus and still do not know Him. We find the
answer in Judas. Judas was one of the twelve disciples, he did ministry with Jesus, He ate with Him,
he traveled with Him, and he served with Him. He preached the Word and handled the financial affairs

that one of you will betray Me, one who is eating with Me. When Jesus uses the word truly remember
it s a strong affirmation of what He is about to say. It means it is the truth.
In the next few verses I want us to see the contrast between Judas betrayal and the graciousness of
Jesus. The fact that Jesus makes this shocking comment indicates that He is not taken by surprise at
His impending betrayal. Verse 18 points to Psalm 41:9, Even My friend in whom I trusted, one who

Positive Behavior Intervention Plan ( Pbip )
The objective of this Positive Behavior Intervention Plan (PBIP) is to provide John the tools and
support necessary to replace the behavior in question and implement, the prevent, teach, and reinforce
strategies and recommendations. The desired outcome of this PTR plan is for John to substitute the
flicking behavior with the use of a squeezy ball and or personal schedule/chart.
For the prevent component of the behavioral intervention Environmental Supports and Increased Non
contingent Reinforcement techniques were selected. These techniques were chosen in order to help
support John refrain from engaging in the socially unacceptable flicking behavior. In order to prevent
John from engaging in the flicking behavior, the teacher should equip John with a squeezy ball. The
teacher should chat with John upon his arrival and encourage him to utilize his squeezy ball.
According to research, To replace maladaptive behaviors, are sound educational choices grounded in
learning theory and supported by empirical evidence (Dooley, Wilczenski, Torem, 2001, p. 58).
Providing the optimal antecedent conditions will help support John as he acclimates himself to the
replacement behavior. Teachers and staff should be encouraging, supportive, and implement the
prevent strategies when they are most likely to occur. In John s case this would be in the morning,
afternoon, and arrival. John should also be provided with an individual schedule and behavior chart.

Dual Tasking And Cognitive Tasks
Dual tasking is the simultaneous execution of two tasks, (McArdle, 2015) these tasks include two
elementary cognitive tasks (ECT), or secondary tasks. ECTs are basic tasks which require a small
number of mental processes (Caroll, 1993.) Dual tasking is the combination of two ECTs. Main
cognitive functions, utilised in ECTs, are affected during the process of dual tasking specifically in
executive function and attention. Executive function includes complex mental processes such as:
problem solving, planning and dual tasking as shown in a study by Zelazo (2002.) Attention includes
mental processes such as the ability to concentrate on people; actions, objects and restraint from
impulsive actions. This cognitive function, along with executive ... Show more content on

This refers to focusing on one task until it is completed, rather than sharing attention to another task
and simultaneously trying to complete both (Jayne, 2006.) Patients inflicted with PD, which are
subject to dual task conditions, are seen with an increase in festinating steps and a worsened state of
bradykinesia. In other words; an increased amount of shuffling steps and a slower pace of gait (Brauer,
et al. 2011.) Furthermore, patients with the disorder whilst dual tasking demonstrate: increased
variability in step length and width, leading to asymmetry in gait, and frequent motor blocks compared
to walking alone (Yogev, Plotnik, Peretz, Giladi, Hausdorff, 2007; Spildooren, et al. 2010; Bloem,
Valkenburg, Slabbekoorn, Dijk, 2001.) Therefore, it can be argued that gait present in PD worsens
once a patient is subject to dual tasking

Kant On Good Will
Nothing is good without limitation, except good will.
Our character traits, temperament, and talents can be good or evil, beneficial or harmful.
Even our good fortune (properties we are born into or receive by chance) can be used for good or
arrogantly; good will bends it to good purpose.
Anyone (rational impartial spectator) would be dissatisfied upon seeing another person lacking good
will yet enjoying life s riches.
Thus, good will is a necessary condition for deserving happiness.
Even those qualities (here he considers moderation, self control, and sober reflection) which support
good will cannot be held as absolutely good (good without limitation); they still require a good will.
Good will has supreme value by virtue of its consideration ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net
...
Surely, then, reason serves not the aim of happiness, but another aim for existence possessing much
more dignity.
This other aim is the highest good, for which reason is a necessary ingredient. For natural ends,
instinct (drives to satisfy hunger, thirst, and the need for shelter) is sufficient; however, the greatest
good demands reason. This is so because the greatest good may adversely affect the individual who by
reason is contemplating a course of action.
Kant then discusses the concept of duty: does it always serve the good, or can it also be self serving?
Even the preservation of life must be considered as either conforming with duty or arising from duty, a
moral obligation. Thus, only actions which have moral value can be sufficiently described as duty.
Happiness is a powerful motivator; lack thereof can lead one to violate one s duties.
Motivation to satisfy one inclination and achieve happiness in the present can outweigh consideration
of a later (i.e., more distant temporally) consequence. Abiding by one s duty to achieve happiness
provides moral value.
Thus, love as a duty can be commanded; such love is practical and based on the will not melting

A History Of The World In 6 Glasses Summary
One does not consider the origin and history of a alcoholic drink during a celebratory event nor does
one consider the effects it has created in society when reaching the bottom of their glass. Journalist
and author, Thomas Standage in his non fiction text, A History of the World in 6 Glasses, describes the
great impact of beer, wine, and spirits on civilizations. Standages purpose is to explain how these
alcholic drinks marked political, social, and intellectual revolutions that influenced modern day
society. Particularly, wine caused major social and agricultural turning points in the Greek and Roman

Weapons Of Mass Destruction Essay
In the text weapons of mass destruction refers to materials, weapons, or devices that are intended to
cause death or serious bodily injury to a significant number of people (page 711, para. 3,4). In 1939,
Albert Einstein s Letter to President Roosevelt mentioned that the work of scientists E. Fermi and L.
Szilard led him to expect that uranium may be turned into a source of energy in the immediate future
(Page 1, para. 1). Einstein knew how powerful uranium was and how a very large amount of it could
set up a nuclear chain reaction. He knew that if in case this did happen he wanted the president to be
well prepared for the outcome. Einstein argued that weapons of mass destruction required a lot of
attention and if they are going to be initiated then the following steps should be followed: a person
who is confident and trustworthy should keep the government updated with further development and
put forward recommendations for government action, particularly the secure supply of uranium (Page
2, para. 6). Secondly, this person should also speed up work by making sure funds are provided and
also that they have the necessary equipment needed for completion (page 2, para. 7)
In the Draft of Press Release Announcing the Use of the Atomic Bomb in 1945, Stimson argued that

Irony In Cast Away
The only real change comes from inside. There is nothing in life that will ever change you drastically
unless you let it. Life will only change you if you let it, that s why people walk around like they are
protecting themselves with an imperceptible forcefield of false sangfroid attempting to act like they
have their entire life together. The only way to perceive change is to go through a slow process of self
development. In the movie Cast Away, Tom Hanks does a marvelous job of portraying how isolation
and desperation can have a negative toll on a fragile mind. Cast Away in its entirety is just one big ball
of irony so to speak. Many instances in this move have a large variety of irony and importance. For
example, after the thanksgiving dinner, Chuck is getting called into work and is required to fly
overseas. Goodbyes are never easy, but Chuck is not thinking about that; Chuck is trying to get back
to Kelly as soon a possible. This is shown by him saying be right back after he steps out of the car.
This very simple action, that has so much meaning behind it. Chucks plane experiences complications
and unfortunately crashes in the middle of the sea. The plane crash thus proves how Chucks statement
of be right back is ironic. Another way the directors are showing irony is not through words, but
actions and camera angles. One of Chucks first actions when he gets onto the island is to write HELP
in the sand, in hopes to catch the attention of a an airplane flying

The, Man And Woman
Ever since Adam and Eve were banished from Eden, man and woman have needed each other to
survive in this world. Unlike in Eden, where both Adam and Eve were created by God to be perfect
beings, once banished, both man and woman were put into a state of dependence; standing alone as
individuals, they would never thrive. This advertisement depicts woman wearing the same pair of
jeans as man. Both are standing on a white fur rug, staring with intense gazes. The man s hand is
bandaged, while the woman is standing with her arms around the man. What is the significance of the
bandage that is wrapped around the man s hand? At first glance, the man seems to be playing the
dominant role in an advertisement for woman s jeans. The man is standing with his hand bandaged,
with a bandage not unlike one that a boxer would wear under his boxing gloves. The woman s arms
are around the man s neck, as if begging for protection. With closer observation, however, both man
and woman are on top of this rug, a rug made out of soft fur, which could have come from an animal.
Woman looks like she is emerging from man; as if man is Adam, and woman is Eve. In Chapter 1 of
Genesis, Rabbinical commentaries hold that man and woman were originally one entity man was one
side of the body, while woman was the other. Subsequently in Genesis Chapter 2, woman took on her
own form, and was created from a bone of Adam s rib cage. The woman in this advertisement is
standing in a position that looks like she is a

An Essay About Eleanor Roosevelt
Do what you feel in your heart to be right for you ll be criticized anyway. You ll be damned if you do,
and damned if you don t. This quote by Eleanor Roosevelt is a phrase that she lived by her entire life.
She was a woman trying to speak up for those that did not have a voice, fearing they would be
criticized for speaking up. She continued in her selfless journey of helping others, even more so when
she became married to Franklin Roosevelt, the future president. During his time as president, Eleanor
became even more influenced in the lives of others as she helped Eleanor Roosevelt, an inspiring
woman that helped many while performing the part of First Lady, started out with a rough life but
ended it with a lasting legacy.
Eleanor Roosevelt was born on October 11, 1884 to a proud mother, who later would be too ashamed
to even look at her. Her mother was Anna Halls Roosevelt, an outstanding beauty and figure of grace
in their society, and Eleanor was just not. She was reminded of this daily as her mother would always
call her granny meaning back then too plain. Though she never let it show, it had always affected her,
making her extremely self conscience. She would feel this way until she grew older and finally gained
confidence when she went to the Academy in London. Her father, Elliott Roosevelt, was her favorite

Social Labeling Paper
Introduction In this paper I will be discussing my experiences being labeled as deviant. All my life I
have struggled with social anxiety. This anxiety makes it difficult for me to talk to other people in
social situations or speak to others in large groups. As a result of this, others often see me as weird .
Throughout this paper, I will analyze how I have come to be labeled deviant and how I have adapted
to this label over the course of my life. Within the study of deviance, the labeling perspective as well
as symbolic interactionism aid in our understanding of the stigmatizing process that takes place. More
specifically, these theories help us understand the process of being labeled by other individuals, and

symbols, they may see slightly or even radically different meanings than others would under the same

introduction to this analysis, throughout middle and high school, I was put in different classrooms than
other students to do my work because I was viewed as incapable of completing my work to the ability

and because they tend to be more powerful than many of the national governments of the countries
they wish to enter. As a representative of a MNC, you are met with fierce resistance from human
rights groups, national and international, and women s groups who argue that your company will lead
to the displacement of thousands, disrupt the local economy and encourage labor rights abuses based
on your record of dealing with other countries in the developing world. How would you respond and
how would you negotiate?
If I was representing the MNC, I would stress the potential long term benefits. First, the government
would be able to tax my MNC and generate tax revenue. Additionally, the MNC will help that nation
state s economy grow which would help the nation state gain more power in the international
monetary system. Lastly, I would stress that my MNC would create new jobs and help create
infrastructure in the nation state. In regards to human rights groups, I would promises to adhere to the
labor laws of the nation state. We would create safe business environments in order to attract the best
workers. Furthermore, the local economy will grow too, because the MNC would establish
infrastructure that would help aid commerce. Additionally, by creating more jobs, incomes will
increase, allowing for more consumption of local goods and services. Moreover, I would argue that by

Backyard Blues Poem Analysis
In Natasha Trethewey s poetry collection Native Guard, the reader is exposed to the story of
Trethewey s growing up in the southern United States and the tragedy which she encountered during
her younger years, in addition to her experiences with prejudice and to issues surrounding prejudice
within the society she is living in. Throughout this work, Trethewey often refers to graves and
provides compelling imagery regarding the burial of the dead. Within Trethewey s work, the recurring
imagery surrounding graves evolves from the graves simply serving as a personal reminder of the
past, to a statement on the collective memory of society and comments on how Trethewey is troubled
with what society has forgotten as it signifies a willingness to overlook the dehumanization of a large
group of people.
The idea of graves representing memory is introduced in Part I of the collection within the poem
Graveyard Blues . The final stanza of the poem says, I wander now among the names of the dead: My
mother s name, stone pillow for my head (8). First, while the word grave does not appear within this
line, it is heavily implied by the speaker using her mother s name as a stone pillow. The reader can
deduce that this line is referring to a gravestone as when one thinks of a gravestone they usually
picture an upright slab of rock with the name of the deceased engraved within it, and both of these
elements are emphasized within this line. The main way that this line alludes to personal

The Debate Of The Drinking Age
The drinking age has always been twenty one in the United States, whenever it has been questioned on
why twenty one and not eighteen. The scientific answer has always been because the eighteen year old
brain is not fully developed yet. See what I have a hard time understanding is why eighteen year olds
are considered adults at the age of eighteen, but we can t have a drink. At eighteen you are allowed to
buy cigarettes, join the army, change your name. I just don t understand why at eighteen you are
considered old enough to fight for the country, but you can t just have a drink. I also do not quite
understand why we haven t moved the age of becoming a legal adult to twenty one. Back in 1984 the
government wanted to get a firm grasp on the country and wanted to knock them into line. So they
made a deal with all the states that simply stated. Either make the minimum drinking age twenty one
or lose up to 10% of the federal highway funding. Now that s some serious cash, so of course all the
states went along with it and that is how the minimum drinking age came into play. The federal
government did not just pick the number twenty one out of a hat. Twenty one came from the early
English century. That was the age you could vote or become a knight back in that day. Since they
became an adult then it only makes sense that they can drink. ( Why Is the Drinking Age 21? ). Which
goes back to my first point, why are eighteen year olds considered adults at eighteen, but cannot
drink?

Dbq League Of Nations
1.what can you learn about the league of nations from the source A? Explain your answer using details
of the source .
From the start the league of nations had seemed to be struggling. However it can be argued whether or
not it was successful. source A shows the international that was happening at the time of
nationalism. The author was clearly saying the rise of nationalism and how it was one of the major
impacts that added the failure of the league. This can be justified when it is stated the league was an
experiment in internationalism at a time when the counterclaims of nationalism were running
powerfully in the opposite direction this shows now the league was being weighted down but if the

Superdome Simulation
One February 3, 2013, one of the largest sporting events in the world kicked off in New Orleans,
Super Bowl XLVII. This was the 10th time the Super Bowl has been hosted in New Orleans. In
preparation of the Super Bowl Entergy, Louisiana s electric power company performed a $4.2 million
dollar upgrade to the Superdome s electrical lines in December of 2012 in preparation of the Super
Bowl. Power to the Dome is supplied by two separate 13,800 volt underground feed cables that
connect to the Entergy operated switchgear vault a quarter of a mile away from the Superdome. The A

Stadium staff, media, etc.) are credentialed. Background checks are also conducted. 2,000 volunteers
assembled the Super Bowl stage in 8 minutes and 7 minutes to dismantle (which is the required time).
The first rehearsal took one (1) hour. The second half of the game started six (6) minutes late due to

Essay on Analysis of Hopkin s Poem God s Grandeur
Gerard Hopkins wrote God s Grandeur in 1877 right around the time he was ordained as a priest. The
poem deals with his feelings about God s presence and power in the world. He could not understand
how the people inhabiting the earth could refuse or be distracted from God. This confusion was due to
the greatness of God s power and overall existence that, to Hopkins, seemed impossible and sinful to
ignore. However, as the poem progresses Hopkins expresses hope in the world and God s everlasting
presence in it. This poem has much meaning to it and expresses the thoughts and feelings that Hopkins
was having at the time he wrote it. When one first reads God s Grandeur it is hard to fully understand
what Hopkins was trying to convey. One must ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first point is the prominence and greatness of God in our world. The second builds off of the first,
questioning the lack of respect, worship, or simple acknowledgement of God by the human race. The
third point continues Hopkins s thinking process by expressing hope in the Holy Ghost and his never
ending existence in the world. The first point of the poem that Hopkins desired to convey is in the first
three lines. The poem starts off by giving a description of God s grandeur in our world. The first line is
representative of the time period that the poem was written, The world is charged with the grandeur of
God. Hopkins s use of the word charged to describe God s presence, may it have been intentional or
not, reflects the world that Hopkins lived in. In 1877 electricity had been discovered, but it was still an
uncontrollable and indescribable mystery. It was a power that could not be fully explained just like
God s presence on the earth, something that is still as much of a mystery today. It was almost God
like, and was a perfect was to explain God s existence. Another comparison is made at the end of line
three, It gathers to a greatness, like the ooze of oil. The world under God is being compared to the
ooze of oil, expressing how God s will holds the earth together like oil. Throughout the poem Hopkins
uses alliteration very effectively and in these first few lines it is blatantly evident. Certain consonants
are used in

Use Of Force And The Police Force Essay
The Use of Police Force
Police encounter different situations in their daily activities. The diverse nature of the circumstances
implies that the members of the police also have to adopt different strategies of handling them. In
some circumstances, the police have to use force as a way of addressing the situations. Unfortunately,
when the police apply their own discretion in the use of force, the outcomes of this approach may end
in fatalities or serious injuries. In recent times, diverse opinions have emerged in relation to the use of
discretionary force. In some quarters, the use of discretionary force has been hailed as beneficial while
in other case such as the 2008 Shooting of Tyler Cassidy, concerns have been applied concerning the
appropriateness of the strategy. Against this backdrop, this essay examines whether the police use of
force is a necessary component of the job and describes the benefits and limitations connected to the
discretionary use of force by the police.
A striking aspect that differentiates the profession of policing from other forms of professions entails
the legal authority bestowed upon the police to use force should situations call for it (Greenfeld 2012).
According to 2009 Victorian police data, the situations involving the use of force was encountered in
every 2.5 hours and for every 49hours, there was a critical incident related to the use of force by police
(Office of Police Integrity 2009). These statistics show that at some point, the

Food Labeling
Introduction There once was a time where words like light and low fat on food packages that had no
nutritional meaning. As a result, shoppers were often led to believe they were buying products that
were more helpful than they really were. Nutrition panels on labels were also confusing and hard to
read. But the Australia New Zealand Authority (ANZFA) changed all that. In March 2001 the ANZFA
defined new standardized terms that appear on food labels such as low fat , reduced and lean to control
how food manufacturers could put their facts that are relevant to most of our dietary needs. This

problem with the food labeling standard terms need to get more recognition because in the future
consumers wont have to fight any more for information to help them choose the foods they want and

The Importance Of Being A Hero
The most important and impactful part of being a hero is essentially doing heroic things. A heroic
action, in this case, would be qualified as an act that benefits others more than yourself and is
characterized as having a generally upstanding moral motive. In this respect, Dr. Manhattan would be
the most successful hero because not only does he end a war, but he is also the reason that nuclear war
was postponed for so long (Moore, Gibbons 130). Just having a godlike hero present that could stop
nuclear conflict at any time was enough to keep countries from annihilating all humans. From this
logic, Dr. Manhattan saved the most lives for the longest period of time therefore doing the most good.
This outweighs his lack of empathy and compassion. Regardless of how he feels about people, he still
believes they have the capability of doing good and he protects them. Similarly, Ozymandias also
takes part in preventing nuclear war. However, he does this in what is essentially the most evil way: by
killing millions (Moore, Gibbons 401). He thinks he is doing what is right, but he is responsible for
upholding values rather than revolutionizing the world. Killing millions of innocent citizens, by most
people s standards, immoral and unjust, and therefore Veidt is not acting entirely as a hero.
Furthermore, it cannot be ignored that by making this sacrifice, Veidt saved more than he killed. When
referring to villainous personalities, a common and determining factor is not valuing

What Is A Random Act Of Kindness
Random Acts Of Kindness That Shouldn t Be Random Many people have a perception that a deviant
act must be something negative that unbalances the norms of society. However that is not always the
case, a deviant act could be one that is positive. According to Merriam Webster deviant is defined as
different from what is considered to be normal or morally correct. So it comes down to what is
considered to be normal behavior, and believe it or not going out of your own way to help others or
being randomly kind to strangers is not considered to be normal. Why though, why do these acts of
kindness towards others have the potential to be reacted to in a negative fashion? In Ed and Deb

decided that during the course of the race I would go out of my way to help others over obstacles,
provide encouraging words, and keep a smile on my face. However going into the race I already knew
how my actions would be perceived. During the race there were multiple times when I assisted
another in pulling them up over an obstacle or boosting them up over an obstacle, and each and every
time everyone was appreciative and usually helping the next person that came behind them. The
difference with this act is the community that it is preformed in. I ve previously ran the Rugged

History 2111

Sam Patch s Leap into the Great Divide
Some things can be done as well as others , the famous line of Sam Patch became a well known saying
amongst U.S. citizens especially Jeffersonian and Jacksonian democrats (Johnson, 163). Sam Patch
was many things in his lifetime from a famous falls jumper to a destitute mill worker to also the first
American born boss spinner. He however was viewed different amongst social groups in America. The
common folk and Jeffersonian democrats viewed Patch as a good man and somewhat of a folk hero,
while the middle class and Hamiltonians viewed him as a drunkard and a sign of the decay of society
in America. He was a product of the harsh system and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the other hand; the middle class who was most often associated with Hamiltonian views viewed
Sam Patch as a simple drunkard and a symbol of the decay and immoralities of American society.
Journalists during his time wrote Sam Patch like many other great geniuses is a greater friend to the
bottle than the bottle is to him (Johnson, 115). The middle class viewed themselves as respectables
and the wage earning class was inferior to them, which is evident in the celebration ceremonies in
Paterson on the Fourth of July. Celebrations started off with a parade, banquet, and fireworks where
all Patersonians were welcome to participate, but gradually transitioned to a more exclusive
celebration of a large group of respectable Young Men where toasts weren t based on patriotism
anymore yet based on entrepreneurial progress (Johnson, 65). Sam Patch s celebrity and life not only
showed growing social and political differences, but it showed the increasing gap that was growing
between the wage earning and middle class as a result of the market revolution.
The wage earning class was the debtors, debtors who owed money and had to work to make a living
for creditors, most of whom made up what would be known as the middle class. The tradition of
fathers passing their land on down to their sons was slowly dying such as with Mayo Greenleaf Patch
and his sons. Mayo Patch s life was riddled with owing debts to the middle

  • 2. Stop And Frisk, Automobile Searches, And Border And... Though the Fourth Amendment can lay the foundation of the laws of search and seizures and warrants, there are still many controversies as to what is classified as a violation of an individual s Fourth Amendment rights. However, the wording of the Fourth Amendment can be confusing as different individuals interpret privacy in various ways. Terms that may be interpreted differently in the Fourth Amendment can include: 1) right of privacy, 2) search, 3) seizure, 4) arrest, and 5) reasonableness. This paper will examine how each term relates to the practice of stop and frisk, automobile searches, and border and regulatory searches. The rights of privacy are described to be personal belongings or home. As defined in Merriam Webster (2015), the right to privacy is the legal right of a person to have reasonable privacy whereas their private affairs are not made known, or their likeness to be made public in regards to that person s habits, mode of living, and occupation. Individuals may call upon their rights of privacy when they believe that those rights have been violated. Situations like this may occur when an officer searches an individuals property, or their person when performing a stop and frisk. However the fact remains that when individuals are guilty of violating any law, those rights are then diminished to a degree. When performing any search and seizure, law enforcement must have a warrant. Situations when a warrant is not needed would then fall under the Good Faith ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Human Contact Research Paper Everyone has seen it. There are always those people who are way to busy looking at their cell phones to pay any attention to other people. These people are so immersed in their screens that they avoid human contact at all cost. This situation seems to be on the rise with the spread of technology to all age groups in various social classes. The limitation of human contact due to the increase of technology has caused a negative effect on people s lives because it lowers the communication skills of the average person, and it has made people uncomfortable in social situations. To begin, technology, causing a decrease in human interaction, has had a negative effect on people s lives because it lowers the communication skills of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With less practice communicating, people in today s society may struggle with or have lower communication skills. Communication is one of the most important skills to have, and it needs to be developed to be successful in life. Next, the limitation of human contact caused by technology has had a negative effect on the lives of people because it creates an uncomfortable setting in social situations. With forms of communication that don t require a face to face conversations on the rise, people have had less experience talking to others in person. This means even in casual activities like a party, some may feel uncomfortable in the social setting. Also, the inexperience in communicating may effect people in the professional setting. If someone has a big pitch to give at their business, the practice of face to face conversations would come in handy making you more comfortable in those situations. In contrast, some may say that less human interaction has had a positive effect on the lives of humans because new technology has allowed people to contact others whenever they need. However, this point may be taken with a grain of salt because when you use your cell phone to instant message someone, you are able to think over what ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Will Hydrating Before Exercise Really Improve Athletic... Introduction Athletes everyone always hear you have to stay hydrated: make sure you drink plenty of fluids , etc., but what does that actually mean, and what does it do to improve athletic performance. Our bodies require adequate amounts of water in order to survive because water regulates our body s temperature, transports nutrients, and circulates blood throughout our entire bodies. If our bodies loose too much water we become dehydrated. During exercise, our bodies sweat out a lot of the water in our bodies. Too much water loss can lead to dehydration, which can potentially decrease the athletic performance, physically and mentally and lead to serious injury and illness (1). Will hydrating before exercise really improve athletic performance? Discussion Hydration is very important and plays a major role in athletic performance, both the physical and mental (4). In order to function at peak performance our bodies must have sufficient amounts of water in order to work properly. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A person becomes dehydrated when the fluid loss in their body exceeds two percent of that person s body weight (2). Even the lowest level of dehydration can have major effects on athletic performance; a loss of just two percent body loss can lead to a reduction in performance by ten to twenty percent (6). Dehydration greater then three percent of body weight extremely disturbs physiological function, and increases that risk for heat related illness (1). If you are going to let your body become dehydrated while working out, there will be more harm then good that comes from it, and it would defeat the purpose of working out in the first place. Dehydration impairs training quality and also increases stress levels in that individual ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Future Of Legal Business The Future of Legal Business International Law Firms What does John Doe, managing partner of a typical international law firm headquartered in London, think at the moment? His partners have asked him to come up with a three year plan to strengthen the firm s position in its home market and internationally. How to start? Times are tough, clients please themselves by putting pressure on costs, demand is stagnating, income growth is hardly recognizable, and profits are coming under pressure. Should he read any of these smart books or articles dealing with development of legal markets? Well, looking at his bookshelf leads to immediate depression: Richard Susskind s The End of Lawyers? , Larry Ribstein s The Death of Big Law , Bruce MacEwen s Growth is Dead , Mitch Kowalski s Avoiding Extinction , Steven Harper s The Lawyer Bubble , Stephen Mayson s Law Firm Partnership The Grand Delusion , Laura Empson s Partnerships Will They Survive? ... What do these books and articles tell him? All of these academics with their catchy book titles are not entirely helpful. Who has the crystal ball? Ah, Mr. Doe has interviewed many managing partners who should know what they are talking about, but what is this? The crystal ball contains a dark and gloomy smoky premonition: The Magic Circle, the colloquial term for the U.K. s leading law firms, is predicted to disappear within the next decade. Essay On Montgomery Bus Boycott The Montgomery Bus Boycott was successful due to the dedication and hard work of the black community because if they had not had anything like heart, dedication, courage or hard work they would have never made a difference. According to Reading Like a Historian, the textbook states King and the others called for a black boycott of the Montgomery bus system. The boycott meant blacks refused to ride the buses. For months, the buses were almost empty because most of the riders had been black. Then, the boycott spread to white businesses in downtown Montgomery. .During the 1950 s they believed that white people were more important so they discriminated but the bus boycott was successful due to the dedication of the black community in which they ... I think it is the first time that a whole Negro community has ever stuck together this way and for so long and I think they are going to win it. Once again reading like a historian is stating Freedom doesn t come on a silver platter. With every great movement toward freedom there will inevitably be trials. Somebody will have to have the courage to sacrifice. You don t get to the Promised Land without going through the Wilderness. You don t get there without crossing over hills and mountains, but if you keep on keeping on, you can t help but reach it. We won t all see it, but it s coming and it s because God is for it. . • 8. Time Essay Time Time is defined as a measured or measurable period, a continuum that lacks spatial dimensions. This broad definition lacks the simple explanation that humans are searching for. There are many scientists, philosophers, and thinkers who have tried to put time into understanding terms. The aspects of time that we can understand are only based on what we can perceive, observe, and calculate. Every day we look at our watches or clocks. We plan our day around different times of the day. Time tells us when to eat, when to sleep, and how long to do things for. If time were based on these simple terms, then this mysterious enigma would not be in debate. There are the issues of space and time; what is the relationship ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When space and the universe began, the existence of time also began. This theory is well known as the Big Bang Theory. About fifteen billion years ago, the universe was comprised of very hot compressed gas, as a fireball. This is contrary to the idea of the universe beginning as a lump of matter somewhere in the void of space. Matter was created as a result of the Big Bang. Space and time was also created. So, with these ideas, time had a beginning. Looking at it a different way, in the early universe, the normal concept of time is uncertain. Our accepted perceptions, and calculations of time can t be explained all the way back to the Big Bang. There is no way to define time in that era. This is another way that time has a beginning; as far back as we can calculate. Space time began at the same time. According to Hawking, you can t look at the universe using general relativity without finding a big bang or something similar to that at the very beginning. So what does time mean to people now? Time is different as you go through time zones. Everyone has their own perception of time. Nobody is ever on the same schedule, doing things exactly like another person. Even to go as far as other galaxies and planets, time cannot be existing on the same terms. In short, time is not absolute. In the space time continuum, space bends whenever there is a mass. • 9. Rape Is A Serious Problem Only rapists know when they will strike their prey with sexual assault. The victims, both men and women, never see themselves in such a situation. But, what if both the victim and rapist are equally to blame in that situation? What if women could be able to and should do everything they can to prevent being raped? Is it possible that victims are not doing everything they can to prevent rape or defend themselves when they are being violated? The argument of to whom the fault actually belongs to has been a long occurring ordeal that perhaps may never be resolved. Rape is a serious problem, which is why it is one of the most highly debated topics in today s society and media. Many actors and actresses have spoken out against rape, some are even victims. There has also been a growing amount of concern towards women expressed by many anonymous Twitter accounts. Those accounts have helped make teenagers and other social network users more aware of rape culture. According to the Marshall University Women s Center, rape culture is an environment in which rape is prevalent and in which sexual violence against women is normalized and excused in the media and popular culture ( Women s Center marshall.edu page 1). Women believe that rape culture is emphasized through arrogant language, women being objectified by men, the overuse of television sexual violence, and teaching the victims not to be raped instead of teaching the rapist not to rape. Iron Curtain Chapter Summary The advent of high altitude reconnaissance, to include aerial and satellite platforms, had at least as much impact on US intelligence efforts as the Ultra SIGINT intelligence program had on Allied intelligence efforts during World War II possibly even greater. The Iron Curtain of the Cold War served to not only keep people in, but prevent almost any attempted penetration by Western intelligence agencies. Western powers knew the Soviet Union had ambitions to spread communism to neighboring nations and intended to do what they could to minimize and contain the communist swell. It often seems that Taubman simply included every bit of information he collected into his book in order to create a false sense of expertise on the subject, almost negating the amount of research that he obviously put into the book. Source Anonymous Research Paper Sit tight for the journey ahead as I explain to you, on my coffee induced, sleep deprived binge writing, the ethics of source anonymity in journalism for the purpose of this paper, I will be writing about Canada specifically. More specifically, I will touch upon the following: What is the reliability of the source? Why would a source have to be kept anonymous? To what extent does a journalist keep a source confidential? Firstly, I will go on to briefly describe the Canadian Act that protects whistle blowers (the term used to describe someone who brings an issue to light, almost always in their organization) and the shield law. Next, I will be discussing the ethics in keeping a source anonymous from the utilitarian point of view, as well as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As stated in the CAJ Ethics Guidelines, under Promises to Sources, it is important to discuss with a source wanting to be kept anonymous whether or not you, as a journalist, are willing to go to jail for keeping them anonymous when ordered by a court. It is important to discuss with your source that, if they mislead or lie to you about anything they say, the promise of keeping their anonymity is off. There have been many cases of journalists going to jail for keeping a source anonymous, even in the face of the law. If this doesn t show principle, then I don t know what does. There is also the aspect of acting from duty: a journalist has the duty of reporting to the public in order for them to know the truth about what s happening in the world. The right thing to do is to keep the source anonymous if it means that an important story or high classified information will be out for the public to know it is their right to know. In this perspective, a journalist does not look at their personal consequences possible incarceration but on the nature of their action to liberate the truth. They have the good intention, which makes it deontological. If we take a look at the first form of the categorical imperatives, it follows this as well because of the way they act: keeping a promise they made. A journalist also has true freedom because they have the autonomy to put themselves in a position of being in a bad situation with the law, using their rationality to weigh the options of leaking a good story or the possibility of suffering consequences for ... Positive Behavior Intervention Plan ( Pbip ) The objective of this Positive Behavior Intervention Plan (PBIP) is to provide John the tools and support necessary to replace the behavior in question and implement, the prevent, teach, and reinforce strategies and recommendations. The desired outcome of this PTR plan is for John to substitute the flicking behavior with the use of a squeezy ball and or personal schedule/chart. For the prevent component of the behavioral intervention Environmental Supports and Increased Non contingent Reinforcement techniques were selected. These techniques were chosen in order to help support John refrain from engaging in the socially unacceptable flicking behavior. In order to prevent John from engaging in the flicking behavior, the teacher should equip John with a squeezy ball. ECTs are basic tasks which require a small number of mental processes (Caroll, 1993.) Dual tasking is the combination of two ECTs. Main cognitive functions, utilised in ECTs, are affected during the process of dual tasking specifically in executive function and attention. Executive function includes complex mental processes such as: problem solving, planning and dual tasking as shown in a study by Zelazo (2002.) • 15. Kant On Good Will Nothing is good without limitation, except good will. Our character traits, temperament, and talents can be good or evil, beneficial or harmful. Even our good fortune (properties we are born into or receive by chance) can be used for good or arrogantly; good will bends it to good purpose. Anyone (rational impartial spectator) would be dissatisfied upon seeing another person lacking good will yet enjoying life s riches. Thus, good will is a necessary condition for deserving happiness. Even those qualities (here he considers moderation, self control, and sober reflection) which support good will cannot be held as absolutely good (good without limitation); they still require a good will. Good will has supreme value by virtue of its consideration ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Surely, then, reason serves not the aim of happiness, but another aim for existence possessing much more dignity. This other aim is the highest good, for which reason is a necessary ingredient. For natural ends, instinct (drives to satisfy hunger, thirst, and the need for shelter) is sufficient; however, the greatest good demands reason. This is so because the greatest good may adversely affect the individual who by reason is contemplating a course of action. Kant then discusses the concept of duty: does it always serve the good, or can it also be self serving? Even the preservation of life must be considered as either conforming with duty or arising from duty, a moral obligation. Thus, only actions which have moral value can be sufficiently described as duty. Happiness is a powerful motivator; lack thereof can lead one to violate one s duties. Motivation to satisfy one inclination and achieve happiness in the present can outweigh consideration of a later (i.e., more distant temporally) consequence. Abiding by one s duty to achieve happiness provides moral value. Thus, love as a duty can be commanded; such love is practical and based on the will not melting ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Weapons Of Mass Destruction Essay In the text weapons of mass destruction refers to materials, weapons, or devices that are intended to cause death or serious bodily injury to a significant number of people (page 711, para. 3,4). In 1939, Albert Einstein s Letter to President Roosevelt mentioned that the work of scientists E. Fermi and L. Szilard led him to expect that uranium may be turned into a source of energy in the immediate future (Page 1, para. 1). Einstein knew how powerful uranium was and how a very large amount of it could set up a nuclear chain reaction. He knew that if in case this did happen he wanted the president to be well prepared for the outcome. Einstein argued that weapons of mass destruction required a lot of attention and if they are going to be initiated then the following steps should be followed: a person who is confident and trustworthy should keep the government updated with further development and put forward recommendations for government action, particularly the secure supply of uranium (Page 2, para. 6). Secondly, this person should also speed up work by making sure funds are provided and also that they have the necessary equipment needed for completion (page 2, para. 7) In the Draft of Press Release Announcing the Use of the Atomic Bomb in 1945, Stimson argued that he believed dropping the bomb would force japan to surrender on terms acceptable to the United States. Life will only change you if you let it, that s why people walk around like they are protecting themselves with an imperceptible forcefield of false sangfroid attempting to act like they have their entire life together. The only way to perceive change is to go through a slow process of self development. In the movie Cast Away, Tom Hanks does a marvelous job of portraying how isolation and desperation can have a negative toll on a fragile mind. Cast Away in its entirety is just one big ball of irony so to speak. Many instances in this move have a large variety of irony and importance. For example, after the thanksgiving dinner, Chuck is getting called into work and is required to fly overseas. Goodbyes are never easy, but Chuck is not thinking about that; Chuck is trying to get back to Kelly as soon a possible. This is shown by him saying be right back after he steps out of the car. This very simple action, that has so much meaning behind it. Chucks plane experiences complications and unfortunately crashes in the middle of the sea. The plane crash thus proves how Chucks statement of be right back is ironic. Another way the directors are showing irony is not through words, but actions and camera angles. Unlike in Eden, where both Adam and Eve were created by God to be perfect beings, once banished, both man and woman were put into a state of dependence; standing alone as individuals, they would never thrive. This advertisement depicts woman wearing the same pair of jeans as man. Both are standing on a white fur rug, staring with intense gazes. The man s hand is bandaged, while the woman is standing with her arms around the man. What is the significance of the bandage that is wrapped around the man s hand? At first glance, the man seems to be playing the dominant role in an advertisement for woman s jeans. The man is standing with his hand bandaged, with a bandage not unlike one that a boxer would wear under his boxing gloves. The woman s arms are around the man s neck, as if begging for protection. With closer observation, however, both man and woman are on top of this rug, a rug made out of soft fur, which could have come from an animal. In Chapter 1 of Genesis, Rabbinical commentaries hold that man and woman were originally one entity man was one side of the body, while woman was the other. • 23. Backyard Blues Poem Analysis In Natasha Trethewey s poetry collection Native Guard, the reader is exposed to the story of Trethewey s growing up in the southern United States and the tragedy which she encountered during her younger years, in addition to her experiences with prejudice and to issues surrounding prejudice within the society she is living in. Throughout this work, Trethewey often refers to graves and provides compelling imagery regarding the burial of the dead. Within Trethewey s work, the recurring imagery surrounding graves evolves from the graves simply serving as a personal reminder of the past, to a statement on the collective memory of society and comments on how Trethewey is troubled with what society has forgotten as it signifies a willingness to overlook the dehumanization of a large group of people. The idea of graves representing memory is introduced in Part I of the collection within the poem Graveyard Blues . The final stanza of the poem says, I wander now among the names of the dead: My mother s name, stone pillow for my head (8). First, while the word grave does not appear within this line, it is heavily implied by the speaker using her mother s name as a stone pillow. At eighteen you are allowed to buy cigarettes, join the army, change your name. I just don t understand why at eighteen you are considered old enough to fight for the country, but you can t just have a drink. I also do not quite understand why we haven t moved the age of becoming a legal adult to twenty one. Back in 1984 the government wanted to get a firm grasp on the country and wanted to knock them into line. So they made a deal with all the states that simply stated. Either make the minimum drinking age twenty one or lose up to 10% of the federal highway funding. Now that s some serious cash, so of course all the states went along with it and that is how the minimum drinking age came into play. The federal government did not just pick the number twenty one out of a hat. Twenty one came from the early English century. That was the age you could vote or become a knight back in that day. The poem deals with his feelings about God s presence and power in the world. He could not understand how the people inhabiting the earth could refuse or be distracted from God. The first point of the poem that Hopkins desired to convey is in the first three lines. The poem starts off by giving a description of God s grandeur in our world. The first line is representative of the time period that the poem was written, The world is charged with the grandeur of God. Hopkins s use of the word charged to describe God s presence, may it have been intentional or not, reflects the world that Hopkins lived in. The diverse nature of the circumstances implies that the members of the police also have to adopt different strategies of handling them. In some circumstances, the police have to use force as a way of addressing the situations. Unfortunately, when the police apply their own discretion in the use of force, the outcomes of this approach may end in fatalities or serious injuries. In recent times, diverse opinions have emerged in relation to the use of discretionary force. In some quarters, the use of discretionary force has been hailed as beneficial while in other case such as the 2008 Shooting of Tyler Cassidy, concerns have been applied concerning the appropriateness of the strategy. Against this backdrop, this essay examines whether the police use of force is a necessary component of the job and describes the benefits and limitations connected to the discretionary use of force by the police. A striking aspect that differentiates the profession of policing from other forms of professions entails the legal authority bestowed upon the police to use force should situations call for it (Greenfeld 2012). According to 2009 Victorian police data, the situations involving the use of force was encountered in every 2.5 hours and for every 49hours, there was a critical incident related to the use of force by police (Office of Police Integrity 2009). A heroic action, in this case, would be qualified as an act that benefits others more than yourself and is characterized as having a generally upstanding moral motive. In this respect, Dr. Manhattan would be the most successful hero because not only does he end a war, but he is also the reason that nuclear war was postponed for so long (Moore, Gibbons 130). Just having a godlike hero present that could stop nuclear conflict at any time was enough to keep countries from annihilating all humans. From this logic, Dr. Manhattan saved the most lives for the longest period of time therefore doing the most good. This outweighs his lack of empathy and compassion. Regardless of how he feels about people, he still believes they have the capability of doing good and he protects them. Similarly, Ozymandias also takes part in preventing nuclear war. However, he does this in what is essentially the most evil way: by killing millions (Moore, Gibbons 401). He thinks he is doing what is right, but he is responsible for upholding values rather than revolutionizing the world. In 1996 he signs up for the U.S. military, and is recommended for the Navy SEALs, at the time a (compared to other things) unknown branch trained to fight on land, in the sea, and in the air. Kyle makes it through intense physical training, during which he s water boarded, forced to exercise for hours at a time without rest, and starved of sleep. Shortly after completing his SEAL training, Kyle is placed/assigned in Long Beach, California, with Team 3 of the Navy SEALs. There, he meets his future wife, Taya. Taya is attracted to Kyle in part because he s unusually humble for a SEAL; at one point, he tells her, I d lay down my life for my country. Kyle is placed/assigned in California during September 11, 2001; he s horrified by al Qaeda s terrorist horrifying crimes, and wants to send out and use to the Middle East as soon as possible. In the end, it takes almost two years for Kyle to send out and use. During this time, Kyle continues to train carefully/strictly/in a high quality way for combat. He also marries Taya. • 35. What Is A Random Act Of Kindness Random Acts Of Kindness That Shouldn t Be Random Many people have a perception that a deviant act must be something negative that unbalances the norms of society. However that is not always the case, a deviant act could be one that is positive. According to Merriam Webster deviant is defined as different from what is considered to be normal or morally correct. So it comes down to what is considered to be normal behavior, and believe it or not going out of your own way to help others or being randomly kind to strangers is not considered to be normal. Why though, why do these acts of kindness towards others have the potential to be reacted to in a negative fashion? In Ed and Deb Shapiro s article Why Random Acts of Kindness are So Important, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On October 4th I ran in the Rugged Maniac, a 3.6 mile obstacle course through mud, water, and fire. I decided that during the course of the race I would go out of my way to help others over obstacles, provide encouraging words, and keep a smile on my face. However going into the race I already knew how my actions would be perceived. During the race there were multiple times when I assisted another in pulling them up over an obstacle or boosting them up over an obstacle, and each and every time everyone was appreciative and usually helping the next person that came behind them. The difference with this act is the community that it is preformed in. I ve previously ran the Rugged Maniac at an earlier date and also the Tough Mudder. People who participate in these events are a special kind of person, they all go out of their way to help each other and when someone does help another it isn t looked at as odd or deviant, where as if they were openly helpful out in the rest of the world. These mud runs are like families and they don t look at how fast someone finishes the course but rather at making sure you do finish. Why do people have to be covered in filth and running for miles to experience the kind of generosity that should be present in day to day life? Honestly I don t have an answer other then its just part of the race, and that feeling ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Sam Patch Essay Jonathan Kroger History 2111 April 22, 2010 Sam Patch s Leap into the Great Divide Some things can be done as well as others , the famous line of Sam Patch became a well known saying amongst U.S. citizens especially Jeffersonian and Jacksonian democrats (Johnson, 163). Sam Patch was many things in his lifetime from a famous falls jumper to a destitute mill worker to also the first American born boss spinner. He however was viewed different amongst social groups in America. The common folk and Jeffersonian democrats viewed Patch as a good man and somewhat of a folk hero, while the middle class and Hamiltonians viewed him as a drunkard and a sign of the decay of society in America. He was a product of the harsh system and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On the other hand; the middle class who was most often associated with Hamiltonian views viewed Sam Patch as a simple drunkard and a symbol of the decay and immoralities of American society. Journalists during his time wrote Sam Patch like many other great geniuses is a greater friend to the bottle than the bottle is to him (Johnson, 115). The middle class viewed themselves as respectables and the wage earning class was inferior to them, which is evident in the celebration ceremonies in Paterson on the Fourth of July. Celebrations started off with a parade, banquet, and fireworks where all Patersonians were welcome to participate, but gradually transitioned to a more exclusive celebration of a large group of respectable Young Men where toasts weren t based on patriotism anymore yet based on entrepreneurial progress (Johnson, 65). Sam Patch s celebrity and life not only showed growing social and political differences, but it showed the increasing gap that was growing between the wage earning and middle class as a result of the market revolution. The wage earning class was the debtors, debtors who owed money and had to work to make a living for creditors, most of whom made up what would be known as the middle class. The tradition of fathers passing their land on down to their sons was slowly dying such as with Mayo Greenleaf Patch and his sons. Mayo Patch s life was riddled with owing debts to the middle ...
