Analysis of Sidgwick s Third Axiom Essay
This paper will object to Sidgwick s axiom that from the point of view of the universe, the good of one
is no more important than the good of another on the ground that it is analytic. I present the purpose
and content of the axiom with a further explanation of what I take the point of view of the universe to
mean. I then consider the response of the Egoist to the axiom and Sidgwick s counter response to
illustrate the tautology of the argument. The tautology of the argument brings it in line with other
axioms that Sidgwick rejects as insignificant. Thus, I argue that the third axiom fails to meet Sidgwick
s own standards, making its utility and significance questionable. In response to this, I consider that
the axiom may be analytic but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thus, the axiom holds that we must regard the good of others as equal to our own good unless, when
viewed from an impartial position, it is less due to special circumstances . For example, Sidgwick
states that it would be wrong for a man to pursue his own good on any occasion if it would result in
another individual having to sacrifice a greater amount of their good. The problem with the axiom lies
in the use of the phrase from the point of view of the universe . The phrase must be included because
without it an Egoist could easily reject the axiom, which would be unacceptable for Sidgwick.
However, the inclusion of this phrase could lead one to object to the axiom on the basis that it is
analytic. As it stands, the Egoist can escape the axiom so long as he holds his happiness as his ultimate
end. He can simply say he is not interested in taking up that point of view and thus it does not apply.
Sidgwick acknowledges this to be true, so long as the Egoist does not believe that his happiness or
pleasure is Good, not only for him but from the point of view of the Universe... as by saying that
nature designed him to seek his own happiness. If the Egoist believes something like this, Sidgwick
thinks it becomes relevant to tell him that, when taken universally, his good is no more important than
that of any other person. Thus, his argument becomes, if you adopt the

Florida Wine Cellars Essay
Whenever people visit Northwest Florida, the first thing that comes to mind are the area s crystal
white sand beaches, turquoise water, and lush forests. It might come as a surprise to visitors that the
region is also home to several excellent wineries. A number of area wineries produce native grown and
natural Muscadine vines consisting of either grape, a blend of exotic or citrus fruit.
The vineyards, some not much larger than a backyard offer wine tasting and tours with the option to
purchase some of these excellent wines.
Chautauqua Vineyards and Winery
The winery has won a number of national and international awards since first opening in 1989. Tours

In addition empirical investigations that focus on considering marketing efficiency as an additional
influencer of firms profits is a research gap. We expect to fill this gap by shedding light on the
following objectives. The first is related to find out more empirical support to the effect of marketing
activities and positions on short and long term profits. The other objective intend to demonstrate if the
marketing efficiency increase the long term profits of firms more than the augment generated by the
marketing positions.
The remaining part of this work in progress is organized as following. Firstly, a theoretical and
empirical review of marketing impact and efficiency is presented.
Secondly, the theoretical model adopted and the hypotheses are stated. Thirdly, the research
methodology stage by stage is developed. Fourthly, the discussion and conclusion are presented.
Finally, the academic and managerial relevance is suggested.
MARKETING IMPACT AND MARKETING EFFICIENCY
The Resource Based View (RBV) recognizes the importance of a firm s internal organizational
resources as determinants of the firm s strategy and performance (Barney
1991; Grant 1991; Wernerfelt 1984). Barney (1991) defines the term internal organizational resources
as all assets, capabilities, organizational processes, firm attributes, information, knowledge, that are

On The Road
A lesson all musicians learn. It brings to mind Dawes line I think that some of us still belong out on
the road and Bob Dylan s quote about make a deal with the guy upstairs about touring a long time ago.
The evidence points to musicians and touring as not only a relationship but the only long term one
most ever have. Any person who has been in a long term relationship or read a book about one (I.e.
my current read Juliet, Naked) knows there are certain ups and downs that come with time. Jason s
lyric examines the downside of this relationship. Really, with a little more thought this is a downside
for even a two plus week vacation or a business trip. The road is exciting until you miss your bed and
desire to have more then one option of what to wear every morning. The difference for musicians is
that the road comes across different to them. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

is much more summed up by Stevie Nick s who warns girls to avoid dating musicians because they
tour and cheat and the road ends up being just a cheap hotel with a lose groupie in it. That s what

Roles Of Males And Females Alike
Gender norms often support stereotypical ideas that help people form general assumptions about the
roles of males and females alike. In Ryūnosuke Akutagawa s In a Bamboo Grove, gender norm
accusations about Masago are demonstrated by the old woman, the robber, and Masago s husband,
Takehiko, as they are being questioned. These characters all believe that Masago does not display any
role in the murder of her husband. The fact that none of the characters in the story would ever expect
that Masago is an accessory to the gruesome act against her own husband is unjustified because their
focus on gender norms misconstrue how Masago really is. Being one of the characters to suggest
Masago is innocent in the death of her husband, the old woman fails to realize the truth when she
assumes that Masago is hurt. The old woman explains, . . . the fate of my daughter worries me sick
(Akutagawa 2). By stating that she is worried for her own daughter s safety, the old woman is
implying that her daughter is also a victim who had nothing to do with the murder of her son in law,
Takehiko, because she does not believe that Masago, being a woman, could have possibly played any
other role in the crime other than the victim. The old woman goes on to say, I hate that robber
Tajomaru, or whatever his name is. Not only my son in law, but my daughter . . . (2). In this statement,
the old woman reinforces her belief that her daughter, since she is a woman, is nothing more than a

explain how it works and how it has helped Chevron discover new oil and gas reservoirs?
Seismic imaging technology: Seismic imaging is a tool that bounces sound waves off underground
rock structures to reveal possible crude oil and natural gas bearing formations. Ultrasensitive devices
named as geophones are used by the seismologists to record the sound waves as they echo inside the
earth. After brief research on the echoes, geologists start calculating the depth and structures of buried
geologic formations. This kind of analysis may help them identify oil and gas bearing reservoirs

Rear Window, Miss Lonelyheart
While Jeff is the protagonist and their are many women in Rear Window, Miss Lonelyheart , Stella,
and Lisa play a key role in developing Jeff as a person and solving the mystery.
Miss lonelyheart, who is played by actress Judith Evelyn, is a interesting and important sub character
that helps Jeff understand the possible consequences of his voyeuristic habits. For example, we see a
nighttime set with Jeff and Lisa enjoying a chilled glass of wine. Jeff is looking out the window and is
watching Miss. Lonelyheart intently as she is preparing a meal for two; one for herself and the second
for a former love. Jeff sips his wine with her from across the courtyard and watches as she breaks

Stella plays a articulate role as a mother character and also as a prophet. When she first arrives she
portrays a very forward women bossing Jeff around like a mother might to their grown son. One of my
favorite examples of her character is when she says to Jeff in discussion about Lisa, I can hear you
now: Get out of my life, you wonderful woman. You re too good for me . More interestingly, Stella
acts as a prophet to what will happen in the film. She says multiple times that she can Smell trouble in
the apartment as she notices Jeff voristic habits. From a shot prospective, author John Belton points
out an interesting fact about Stella visual role to show she know more about what is about to happen,
...narrative perspectives, such as those of Stella, Lisa, and Doyle, which initially differ from Jeff s in
their refusal to believe him, ultimately give way to his perceptions, in large part because these
characters are forced to share his spatial position, to see events from the single perspective which is
his own. For Jeff, trapped at a fixed station point, there is only one possible way of interpreting what
he has heard and seen; his stubborn and herence to his reading of events is partially understood in
terms of his immobilization in space, which prohibits him, unlike the other characters, from gaining

Change Your Air Filter Research Paper
Most people are well aware of the fact that home warrantys cover their air conditioner. However,
many people who compare home warranty companies do not change their air filter. Changing your air
filter is one of the things you have to do in order to ensure that it functions at its peak. There are a
number of signs that you may notice if you need to change your air filter. Below is a list of signs that
you need to change your air filter: Very High Energy Bill A high energy bill is something that can
easily be overlooked. People often attribute an increasing energy bill to many things. However, an
increase in your energy bill may be caused by a clogged air filter. Your air conditioner filter has to
work harder if the filter is clogged. If you have noticed that your energy bill is much higher than ...

Your system will likely to shut down if it overheats. The air conditioner may also shut off and on
repeatedly, which will make it harder for you to keep your home cool. Frozen Evaporator Coil The
evaporator coils help keep your home cool by absorbing the heat. A clogged air filter restricts heat
flow. That is why your evaporator coil is likely to freeze up if the air filter is clogged. Why Changing
Your Filter Is Important There are a number of reasons that First American Warranty recommends
changing your air filter on a regular basis. A dirty filter can cause a lot of damage to your system.
Even though home warrantys cover your air conditioner, you should try to keep it as soon as possible.
It is also important to note that a dirty air filter affects the indoor air quality. If the air filter is dirty,
then this means pollen, dust, dust mites and other particles are circulating throughout the air. This can
have an adverse affect on your health. Additionally, if you already have health issues, then you are
even more likely to be affected by a dirty air

Abstract
It has been 9 years since Google entered China Market officially, and 5 years since Google established
Google China. Despite having a brand value of an amazing $66.4 billion, Google.cn still fails to
dominate the search engine market in mainland China and faces stiff competition from bitter rival
Baidu. In other words, Baidu s market share in China is nearly 75 percent to Google China s 25
percent. The secret to Baidu s success and Google s failure is largely positioning. Chinese authorities
blocked Google ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hence, Baidu.com is easier to remember than Google.cn.
Inability to control sensitive content. The Great Firewall is extremely sensitive when it comes to
pornography contents. The reason of blocking Google International is that netizens in China can
search pornography images via Google Images when the default setting of SafeSearch is off. In
contrast, Baidu has a strong filter to sieve out any unsuitable content that displeasure the Chinese
government. As a result, it s almost impossible to search any sensitive content on Baidu. Google failed
because government would not care about its position when all of us have to face the laws.
In China, consumers rely on blogs and other user generated consumer reporting when deciding what
to buy, mainly because they trust word of mouth much more than any blatant advertising campaign.
So it should come as no surprise that they re also very active participants, leaving more than twice the
amount of comments their peers elsewhere post.
The key issues and the lessons
China is a complicated market, more so with the media industry. The Chinese government retains far
more control over media, the press, and the internet than any other economy at a similarly developed
level.
Chinese internet users do not like to type, perhaps due to the fact that Mandarin has many thousands
of characters. They navigate almost entirely by using the mouse. This may look cluttered and
disorderly to an American, but it makes

Cognitive Psychological Theory
COGNITIVE PSYCHOLOGY THEORY Overview Cognitive psychology is a modern school of
psychology that departs from the traditional view of psychology as primarily a function of responses
to stimuli and patterns of conditioned responses. It does not reject the behaviorist school of
psychology as much as it expands its scope to include elements of responses and behavior that are not
fully addressed by behaviorism (Gerrig Zimbardo, 2009). Cognitive psychology appreciates the value
of observational data and empirical or scientific analysis but rejects the introspection oriented methods
relied upon within Freudian psychodynamic psychology. Generally, cognitive theory suggests that
perception and corresponding external behavioral responses are dictated by a much more complex set
of variables than cause and effect or the one dimensional focus of classical conditioning (Gerrig
Zimbardo, 2009). It incorporates internal states of mind as well as subjective variables such as social
learning and belief, the cumulative impact of previous experiences, individual desires and perspective,
and personal motivation. It also emphasizes the significance of differences in brain structure and
function from individual to individual as elements that contribute to the perceptions and responses of
different individuals to experiences that are objectively similar (Pinker, 2002). Rejection of the Blank
Slate Concept The behaviorist view of psychology is that the individual begins life as a

Describe at least one of these experiments and explain the significance of the findings. In one of the
experiments, Mary Gasseling took a little patch of tissue, early in development, from what would be
the pinky side of a limb bud. She took that tissue and put it on the opposite side right beneath where
the first finger would form. The chick would develop and form a wing; the new fingers were also
copies of the normal set. Basically, the tissue (more specifically some molecule or gene inside the
tissue) was able to direct the development of the pattern of the fingers. This led to further experiments
that defined the ZPA, or the zone of polarizing activity. This patch of tissue is able to determine the
difference between the pinky side and the thumb side. 2. Describe the hedgehog gene using several
animal examples. Be sure to explain its function and its region of activity in the body. Hedgehog is a

different from one another depending on how close they are to the ZPA. The chicken version of the

Essay The Thought Process of Shakespeare s Hamlet
The Thought Process of Shakespeare s Hamlet
If Hamlet from himself be ta en away,

Then Hamlet does it not, Hamlet denies it.
Who does it then? His madness. If t be so,
Hamlet is of the faction that is wrong d;
His madness is poor Hamlet s enemy.

The chief definition of thought revolves around the basic concept of the mental process: The action or
process of thinking; mental action or activity in general, esp. that of the intellect; exercise of the
mental faculty; formation and arrangement of ideas in the mind (OED, 1a). A further subset of
definitions can be catalogued into a Manichean vision of positives and negatives and which equally
apply to Hamlet s central consideration of consciousness as a blessing or a curse. There is a stress on
thought s potentiality which fits with Hamlet s obsession with the infinitude of man: Conception,
imagination, fancy (OED, 4c). But following this comes the negative view of thought as quasi action,
a direct link to Hamlet s stall tactics: The entertaining of some project in the mind; the idea or notion
of doing something, as contemplated or entertained in the mind; hence, intention, purpose, design; esp.
an imperfect or half formed intention; with negative expressed or implied = not the least intention or
notion of doing something (OED, 4d). Similarly, the past neutral sense of Remembrance, Å’mind
(OED, 5e) is countered by the negative anticipatory connotation of: Anxiety or distress of mind;
solicitude; grief, sorrow, trouble, care, vexation (OED, 5a). This current of duality is important to keep

Chrysler Motors LLC Synopsis
Chrysler Motors LLC, a U.S. auto manufacturing company, is no stranger to creating various
automotive innovations through the years. Nor is the company a stranger to working its way through
financial ups and downs. During Chrysler s more profitable years the company has made several
successful strategic acquisitions such as the one during the 1920s when Chrysler bought the Dodge
Brothers firm. This acquisition allowed Chrysler to develop and release the low priced Plymouth
brand as well as the medium priced DeSoto brand which can be attributed to aiding in Chrysler s
survival during the Great Depression of the 1930s. Chrysler s success through the 1940s and 1950s
can be attributed to the company s ability to develop state of the art features for their vehicles from the
hemispherical head V8 engine, more commonly known as the HEMI engine, to power steering, power
windows, the alternator, electronic fuel injection, and many other automotive innovations. Chrysler s
success, however, did not end there as the company was also successful at expanding its operations to
overseas auto markets by acquiring the UK based Rootes Group, Simca, and Barreiros companies
(Wheelen Hunger 17 2). Unfortunately for Chrysler this was not enough to keep the company afloat as
the one thing Chrysler failed to do was pay heed to the changing demands of customers in their
domestic market. The oil crisis of the 1970s marked the beginning of Chrysler s decline in sales. In an
attempt to save the

1980 s , during Ronald Reagan s presidency, involving people from the United States government,
Ronald Reagan s administration , and the United States military. The scandal was a covert action never
authorized by the United States Congress.
There were two countries involved with the United States in the scandal, Iran in the Middle East and
Nicaragua in Central America. Nicaragua is the sight of the Contras, a group that was against the
Nicaraguan government in the 80 s, and were often looked at as human rights abusers. The Nicaraguan
government was seen by Americans as communists so in Regan s eyes the anti government Contras
were anti communists, and Reagan wanted to support them, and fund ... Show more content on

The biggest player was the President, the scandal exposed the abusiveness to his power in office, and
eventually hit the media exposing the President and his counterparts involved. President Reagan said
today that he had not been in full control of his Administration s Iran policy, and the White House said
that as a consequence up to $30 million intended to pay for American arms had been secretly diverted
to rebel forces in Nicaragua (Weinraub 1). The actions that had taken place in the scandal and trades
went completely behind congress and much of the United States government. Although the President
may deny any involvement in the arms deal and money trades, he was in on all of it. With the
Administration already in turmoil over the earlier disclosure of clandestine arms shipments to Iran,
and with speculation rampant about a major overhaul of the White House staff, the President s
statement seemed to deepen a sense of disarray. By all accounts, Mr. Reagan now faces the most
serious crisis in his six year Presidency (Weinraub

Aside from contracting agreement with individual teams, Vans settles agreements with the entire

Going back to CSR, Vans had faced dilemmas of unethical treatment of its labor force hence in the

A Rose For Emily Mental Analysis

Prompt # 3 Reading A Rose for Emily by William Faulkner is truly an interesting story. This is the
first time I read about a character having a mental illness that made impressed me and engage to read
more. Emily is a simple girl who was left alone with nothing by her dead strict father. In the story, she
was very reclusive and secretive with her life. She then, murdered her lover, Homer. She slept with his
corpse until she died. Emily s mental behavior are caused by few people in her life. This includes her
father and the townspeople. The closest people with Emily is her father. When her dead father was still

Because of Emily being the last in line from the well known Grierson family, she is recognized by the
every person in town. The townspeople played a role of investigating Emily s cause of mental
behavior. But because Emily is considered a high class person, it gave a reason for the people of
Jefferson to avoid the obvious clues that Emily is mentally displaced and was mentally unstable, due
to her father s death, and capable of premeditated murder. Emily s story and situation was caused by a
number of outlook. Though it is most likely being her segregation from herself to the world. Emily s
father s way of bringing her up and teaching her in life which was a wrong way a parent could do by
secluding her from the outside world and preventing anyone from courting her. Instead of helping her

Manslaughter Case Study
TAQ 1
There are unquestionable sections of offences taken into consideration when determining the facts and
giving orders in court. These can be an action of wrong doing or a crime which an individual did up to
his/her choice without a conscious thought. Diminished responsibility can minimise a crime from a
maximum sentence of murder to a lower sentence of manslaughter. Diminished responsibility involves
a person murdering another person and the person who committed the crime will not be declared
guilty of murder, but will be declared mentally unstable. For example, a less advanced state of mind or
someone who might have been involved in an accident and his or her mind persuades them to commit
a crime which is beyond their control.

Hotel California Rhetorical Devices
Glenn Frey, the co founder of the Eagles, was a middle class kid living in the midwest. He dreamed of
acquiring tremendous wealth in Los Angeles, but later realized that there are more important things
than money. In their song, Hotel California, originally titled Mexican Reggae, they (The Eagles)
express this idea to their audience through lyrics that convey the idea that there are more important
things than just possessions, and there are negatives to the American Dream. The audience in this
could be the average person, yet, the rhetorical devices in The Eagles Hotel California are intended to
reveal to the audience that there are negatives to the American Dream, and you shouldn t change who
you are in order to make it rich. In Hotel California, The Eagles use antithesis, to show a contrast in

wanting to acquire tremendous wealth in the West. He described this dream with admiration when he

because objects that shimmer are often taken as being valuable, much like the materialistic items

this represents the underbelly of American Materialism. As a country, Americans are never satisfied

negative connotations. Once again Frey represents both sides by using an adjective to modify a noun

Moliere s Tartuffe and the Religious Hypocrisy
Moliere s Tartuffe is a satire based on religious hypocrisy. Every character is essential in Tartuffe. All
of the characters play an important role, but it is easy to say that Tartuffe and Orgon are the main
characters. First, we must know the definition of satire. According to the Merriam Webster Online
Dictionary, satire is defined as literary work holding up human vices and follies to ridicule or scorn (
satire ). In other words, a satire is defined as literary work that uses humor to point out the foolishness
of a person or just in human nature. Religious hypocrisy can be self defined as a false assumption of a

There s lately been a rumor going about Based on some hunch or chance remark, no doubt That you
mean Mariane to wed Tartuffe. I ve laughed it off, of course, as just a spoof (Tartuffe 2.2.5 7).
It is obvious to see at this stage in the story that many of the characters are in disbelief that Orgon
wishes Mariane to marry Tartuffe. Several of the characters have confronted Orgon about his decision
and have given their own opinions on Tartuffe is blindness. There have not been any positive
comments or statements made about Tartuffe to Orgon but Orgon stubbornly believes that Tartuffe is a
heaven s blessing. As the story progresses, Orgon is left with no other choice, but to believe what is
being said. But Orgon learns such wisdom at a near tragic cost.
Before Orgon is left to believe the statements about Tartuffe, it is the discussion between Orgon s
wife, Elmire, and Tartuffe that begins to reveal the truth of the rumors of Tartuffe. As Elmire and
Tartuffe talk about Orgon s proposal to marry Mariane, Tartuffe says that he would rather find
happiness elsewhere. It is at this point in the play that Tartuffe begins to reveal his feelings towards
Elmire.

According to Sheth et al (1991), the customer perceived value has five dimensions including
functional, conditional, social, emotional, and epistemic values. This value derived from the behaviour
of the customer and overall purchasing criteria. Furthermore, this dimension clearly illustrates the
ability of the customer to choose whether to continue buying the product or vice versa.
In the purchase of PCs and electronic equipment, the model Sheth et all (1991) is highly compatible

Differences Between Diurnal And Nocturnal Primates

because I thought it sounded interesting. I also chose it because I have horrible night vision and have
trouble driving at night, so I thought it would be cool to learn how certain primates live in darkness
and how their eyes work. This topic is relevant to biological anthropology because we learned about
all different types of primates throughout the course and their characteristics including: social
behaviors, diets, nocturnal vs. diurnal, and many other aspects of primate life. We didn t get to go into
detail about many of the primates and see the differences in nocturnal versus diurnal. In my paper I

wanted to get to know more about each animal and the owl monkey has a very unique story. I also

Tactical Intelligence Essay
Abstract: In this real world, protecting the information of an organization that is present in a software

it recognises the disruption or misleading of the service provide by these data present on the software

Threat intelligence is the set of data collected, assessed and applied regarding security threats, threat
actors, exploits, vulnerabilities and compromise indicators. It is usually presented in either the form of
strategic or tactical intelligence. Strategic intelligence involves broader and higher level abstracts of
data to identify threats and how the organization needs to react where Tactical intelligence involves
collecting the network information, analyzing it, identifying the threats and responding. By using of
this it makes cost effective to organization by reducing security incidents, which increases responsive
time by finding solution in a least possible time. It also shows the security incidents, attacks and

husband. Same as in Death of a Sales Linda is very shy and conservative around her husband.
However, this can really be seen due to the type of sentence structure and tone that is used when either
character is talking to their better half. Due to both Miller and Williams being men they depict the
women to act what a man would imagine a perfect wife would be. So, both of the playwright s
characters are not realistic but a fantasy and not an actual portray of women. In the play bot Linda and

Formal Mathematical Methods And Hardware Systems
Literature Review Formal mathematical methods are system designs that utilize specific rigorous
mathematical models in the production of software and hardware systems. The methods are unique in
comparison with other methods for they utilize mathematical proof as a complement to system testing
so as to ensure a perfect behavior. A formal approach to system designs ensures safety due to the
complicated nature of systems. The use of formal verification schemes creates the difference between
formal methods and other design systems. Hence, the primary principles of the system must be proven
to be right before they are adopted. Extensive testing has been used for long in traditional system
designs to ascertain behavior, but only finite conclusions are achieved. Testing only reveals situations
where a system would not fail, but the behavior outside the testing scenario is not accounted for. If the
result is positive after testing the theorem, then it remains true. An error in design is impossible to fix
via formal verification but could help in identification of errors in reasoning which would otherwise
be left unverified. The knowledge of mathematics results from proofs that consist of valid and certain
conclusions. Verification of mathematical statements is not through experiments or social agreements
but logical deductions from basic assumptions. The method assures that the knowledge has universal
application since mapping a mathematical statement into physical reality holds

Theme Of Power And Control In Macbeth

When an individual is consumed with horrorful ambition, it causes the most unimaginable sorrow to
not only themselves but those around them. In William Shakespeare s Macbeth, the necessity of power
and control brings out the inner monster in various characters, forming the theme of appearance vs
reality. Commitments based on greed for power leads to demise, betrayal and life changing lies,
though nothing comes out well with these dark desires. The vast amount of trickery, fraud, and
betrayal could only be done by Lady Macbeth, Macbeth, and the three witches as they are willing to

discovers Duncan s eldest son, Malcolm, heir to the throne, jealousy rises in his blood, causing him to
overturn this situation with the murder of King Duncan. Macbeth becomes aware of the horrifying
deed he s about to do, so he announces, Stars hide your fires, let not light see my dark and deep
desires. The eye wink at the hand; yet let that be which the eye fears when it is done, not to see

purposes. Due to the horrible desires of Macbeth, he believes no one, not even himself should witness
the task he is about to do. Despite the fact of Macbeth and Lady Macbeth tricking the whole kingdom

Hope For The Amazing Hulk Ulibarri 1
Hope for the Incredible Hulk Ulibarri 1
The subject I chose to analyze is Doctor Bruce Banner, better known as his alter ego, The Incredible
Hulk. I have always been fascinated by the ability of the subject to go from intelligent and logical to
animalistic and rage driven. There is an amazing difference between the two dynamics. This subject is
burdened with raging and angry outbursts as the Hulk followed by withdrawn and confused periods
while emotional and physical control is regained by Bruce. These behaviors are a result of physical
and emotional abuse as a child and a triggering traumatic event causing the personality split. The split
in identities happened violently as Bruce was exposed to a gamma bomb explosion allowing ... Show

beginning of Bruce s tragedy. This could also be listed as a source of Bruce s future afflictions by
showing he was directly influenced by someone with a mental disorder.
Bruce s mom, Rebecca, had a complicated pregnancy, but the complications were never sourced

normal and healthy. Despite this fact, his father, Brian, knew something was wrong with Bruce and

forced to stay home with an affectionless nanny (Yarish). This lack of attention and love paved the

Social Media and Collaboration
If we look back to the time times of the Dark Ages in Europe, cultural progression was stunted by
deadly diseases and economic disarray across the continent. It wasn t until the Renaissance, a golden
age of rebuilding in Europe, that ideas of change and and prosperity began to flourish. This period of
time saw huge advancements in science, art, and literature across the world. Today, hundreds of years
later, we are currently in a golden age led by social media. Names like Facebook, Instagram, and
Twitter are the socio economic leaders of modern times, helping to leading the charge of change. As a
result, social media as a whole is a beneficial tool for human communication and collaboration. In the
21st century, distance is no longer a limitation of communication with family or friends. Social media
can turn a thousand miles into a single click. In fact, today the lines are clearly blurred because our
online worlds [have become] an extension of our offline lives (Pell). It is now possible to speak with
entire networks of close friends much faster than we ve ever been able to before (Brandzel). Sharing
pictures of a vacation in the Bahamas, speaking with potential business partners in China, or meeting a
new date in town, it s all possible now with social media. People s words and thoughts are limited only
to the speed of light traveling around Earth. Beyond its use just to communicate, the true potential of
social media shines with its ability to allow collaboration.

Satire In Langston Hughes Green Memory
The poem Green Memory by Langston Hughes ridicules World War II. This poem was written in 1951
with the point of view of an African American during the war era. The poet uses many literary
techniques, but the main one is satire, which suits the purpose of this poem well because it shows how
the war causes many problems in an ironic way. Langston Hughes uses satire to ridicule the war, and
he uses irony and a serious tone to support his satire and to show what was happening with humanity
during the war era.
The poem has a more serious tone which shows how serious this matter is and is shown with the use
of irony. Satire is used to ridicule something and sometimes has humour in it, but can be sarcastic at
times, which is where irony and the serious tone come in. Langston Hughes uses sarcasm and it seems
like he is mocking the war. A wonderful time the War. (1). He starts off the poem by saying that the
war is wonderful, but as the poem goes on, it becomes more sarcastic. It mentions how blood is far
away and money is near, which is the opposite of what you would expect during war and it shows that
he is mocking the war. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many African Americans were turned down by the draft board for war, so many of them filled in the
jobs that American soldiers left behind because they went overseas to fight in the war. According to
Lindsey Floyd, some African Americans were able to become soldiers for the war, but African
American soldiers returned home and were often attacked by their white neighbors, intent on keeping
Jim Crow intact back home. Usually when people come back from war, they are highly praised and
earn a lot of money, but African Americans were still mistreated and underpaid and sometimes
unemployed, which makes this ironic and adds to the use of

How Oil Drilling Works Essay
People in the U.S. use oil every day. Powering cars, heating homes, and providing electricity are just a
few examples of how we use oil fuels in our daily life. Where would we be if we woke up tomorrow
and couldn t fly because there was no fuel, or products containing plastic were taken off the market?
In fact, oil is a part of everyday items such as crayons, bubble gum, and deodorant (Mooney 19). Oil is
the number one source of energy in the U.S. today. However, the U.S. imports 140 billion worth of its
oil supply every day from unstable regions such as Canada and Mexico (news desk). This makes our
addiction to oil an even more dangerous game. Dependence on foreign oil, also leaves the U.S.
vulnerable to fluctuations in global supply and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As history has shown, the refining and transporting of oil can sometimes end up releasing oil into the
ocean as well. Oil is drilled from the ocean floor through powerful offshore oil rigs. Natural seeps can
also occur. This is when crude oil that seeps in the ocean water from geologic formations beneath the
ocean floor. Despite these risks, the growth of the global oil businesses continue to grow and our need,
and ultimately our dependency on it, grow right along with it. Arguably, the greatest impact of off
shore drilling on the environment is indisputable. There are 3,500 drilling rigs and platforms, 79 of
them deep water wells, in the United States alone (CBSNews). Many of these off shore rigs are
located in the Gulf of Mexico and directly impact these ecosystems with negative impacts ranging
from black carbon to blowouts (Oceana). However, larger impacts can be catastrophic such as the
2010 explosion of the Deepwater Horizon oil rig that killed 11 people and destroyed 125 miles of the
400 miles of Louisiana coastline (Bp). The accident continues to mire the company in lawsuits and
court hearings. BP settled criminal charges with the Justice Department two years ago for $4.5 billion
in penalties, but the oil company faces billions of dollars more in costs from a federal civil trial in

Secession Dbq
1) The secession was a pivotal moment in American history. When Abraham Lincoln was elected
president in 1860, it caused alarm in several Southern states since he did not receive a single electoral
vote from them. Since he was the first from the political Republican Party to become president,
nobody quite knew what to expect and the South feared that he would disregard and corrode their
values. Lincoln desired to place the slaveholding states under the non slaveholding states to prevent
slavery from spreading, which was the last straw that pushed South Carolina to secede on December
20, 1860. Even before Lincoln s inauguration on March 4, 1861, seven states seceded. They elected a
man from Mississippi, Jefferson Davis, to represent them as they pushed to separate themselves from
the union. Not only did they have to elect their own president, but they also had to quickly put
together their own ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One event triggered the next, and the next, and so forth. Though the magnitude and impact for each
event varies, the fact that most every event had an impact does not. However, I believe that the five
most significant event in early American history were the signing of the Declaration of Independence
and Constitution, the Delaware Crossing, the Secession, Fort Sumter, and the fight for abolition in the
Civil War. a. There is a reason that we celebrate with fireworks on the Fourth of July. The signing of
the Declaration of Independence, and later the Constitution, was a pivotal, foundational moment not
only for our own country, but also for the world. Never before had the world seen something quite like
our cherished documents, and when you look around today, numerous other countries have mirrored
their government and constitutions upon our own. These documents sparked and fueled the American
Revolution, which lead to our political and religious freedoms and laid a path for others to

Metaphors In Maus
Art is an outlet through which one is capable of conveying their thoughts, emotions and stories. After
the Holocaust in particular, people were able to view the world through the viewpoint of these artists.
With the ability to see the victim s emotions portrayed visually, one can begin to comprehend them
from a personal perspective and understand the sentiments of sorrow.
Spiegelman s Maus is an excellent representation of how art can channel emotion. Through his works
we are able to uncover the truth of his father s life. Through metaphors especially, Spiegelman is able
to portray the oppressive power versus the oppressed. On page 51, panel eight we are especially able
to see the metaphor in it s full form, with Vladek depicted as an innocent

The Theory Of Social Exchange Theory Essay
During the course of this week s discussion we will examine the social exchange theory (SET); Dr.
Cone did a great job presenting SET to us in this week s media, I hope you all enjoyed it. Now, we can
further consider it by applying the concepts to real life situations such as our family case study, our
own family, or other examples you find to be beneficial to you and our collective growth as future
APNs. In order to guide our discussion and to have a meaningful learning experience I would
encourage each of us to answer the following: What do you find most interesting among the
theoretical concepts? Provide a brief patient and family scenario that exemplifies a key concept from
the presentation. Discuss whether or not you agree with the ideas presented in this media presentation.
Here are the basic premises of social exchange theory from the presentation:
1.Humans seek rewards and avoid punishment
2.Humans seek maximize profit for themselves while minimizing cost
3.Persons will weight benefits and costs in making decisions based on the information
4.Standards that humans use to evaluate rewards and cost differ individual to individual and may
change over time
5.The importance that humans attach to the behavior of other varies from person to person
6.The greater the value of a reward exceeds on expectations, the less valued the reward will become in
the future (the bigger is better phenomenon)
Additional concepts to consider are interdependence, experience, norms, attraction

Essay on Psycho-Analysis in Mary Shelley s Frankenstein
Psycho Analysis in Mary Shelley s Frankenstein
Sigmund Freud s studies in psychoanalysis are uncannily fore grounded in the late romantic period.
The works of William Wordsworth, Percy B. Shelley, Lord Byron, and Mary Shelley, all function as
poetic preludes to Freud s 18th century field. Particularly, it is Mary Shelley s Frankenstein that
creates a fictional rendering for psychoanalyst. In Frankenstein, Victor s rejection of the Monster
metaphorically represents the ego s rejection of the unconscious. Following from this metaphorical
paradigm, Freud s theories on narcissism, the libido theory, the doppelganger, neurosis, and the
Oedipus complex all resonate in the pages of Frankenstein. After a brief introduction to narcissism and

Prior to these three blows Man considered himself as the center and ruler of the universe, a narcissistic
illusion. The discoveries of Copernicus, Darwin, and Freud drove man s narcissism underground
dividing the object (the world), from the subject (the self), or conscious from the unconscious.
In the beginning of its development the libido (all erotic tendencies, all capacity for love) in each
individual is directed towards the self...It is only until later that, in association with the chief natural
functions, the libido flows over and beyond the ego towards objects outside the self, and it is not until
then are we able to recognize the libidinal trends as such and distinguish them for the ego instincts.
(Freud, One of the Difficulties to Psycho Analysis, 3)
The ego instincts are those that are controlled by the conscious mind or the self preservative force.
Therefore, in a human paradise the libido and the ego instincts would be one. The sexual drives would
work agreeably with the preservative drives. However, in adulthood Freud explains the libidinal drives
do not always correspond to those self preserving drives within society. The lack of correspondence
causes the onset of repression: a part of the activity of your own mind has been withdrawn from your
knowledge and from the command of your will...with one part of your forces you are fighting the
other part (Freud, One of the Difficulties

  • 2. Analysis of Sidgwick s Third Axiom Essay This paper will object to Sidgwick s axiom that from the point of view of the universe, the good of one is no more important than the good of another on the ground that it is analytic. I present the purpose and content of the axiom with a further explanation of what I take the point of view of the universe to mean. I then consider the response of the Egoist to the axiom and Sidgwick s counter response to illustrate the tautology of the argument. The tautology of the argument brings it in line with other axioms that Sidgwick rejects as insignificant. Thus, I argue that the third axiom fails to meet Sidgwick s own standards, making its utility and significance questionable. In response to this, I consider that the axiom may be analytic but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thus, the axiom holds that we must regard the good of others as equal to our own good unless, when viewed from an impartial position, it is less due to special circumstances . For example, Sidgwick states that it would be wrong for a man to pursue his own good on any occasion if it would result in another individual having to sacrifice a greater amount of their good. The problem with the axiom lies in the use of the phrase from the point of view of the universe . The phrase must be included because without it an Egoist could easily reject the axiom, which would be unacceptable for Sidgwick. However, the inclusion of this phrase could lead one to object to the axiom on the basis that it is analytic. As it stands, the Egoist can escape the axiom so long as he holds his happiness as his ultimate end. He can simply say he is not interested in taking up that point of view and thus it does not apply. Sidgwick acknowledges this to be true, so long as the Egoist does not believe that his happiness or pleasure is Good, not only for him but from the point of view of the Universe... as by saying that nature designed him to seek his own happiness. If the Egoist believes something like this, Sidgwick thinks it becomes relevant to tell him that, when taken universally, his good is no more important than that of any other person. Thus, his argument becomes, if you adopt the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In RyÅ«nosuke Akutagawa s In a Bamboo Grove, gender norm accusations about Masago are demonstrated by the old woman, the robber, and Masago s husband, Takehiko, as they are being questioned. These characters all believe that Masago does not display any role in the murder of her husband. The fact that none of the characters in the story would ever expect that Masago is an accessory to the gruesome act against her own husband is unjustified because their focus on gender norms misconstrue how Masago really is. Being one of the characters to suggest Masago is innocent in the death of her husband, the old woman fails to realize the truth when she assumes that Masago is hurt. The old woman explains, . . . the fate of my daughter worries me sick (Akutagawa 2). By stating that she is worried for her own daughter s safety, the old woman is implying that her daughter is also a victim who had nothing to do with the murder of her son in law, Takehiko, because she does not believe that Masago, being a woman, could have possibly played any other role in the crime other than the victim. • 13. Cognitive Psychological Theory COGNITIVE PSYCHOLOGY THEORY Overview Cognitive psychology is a modern school of psychology that departs from the traditional view of psychology as primarily a function of responses to stimuli and patterns of conditioned responses. It does not reject the behaviorist school of psychology as much as it expands its scope to include elements of responses and behavior that are not fully addressed by behaviorism (Gerrig Zimbardo, 2009). Cognitive psychology appreciates the value of observational data and empirical or scientific analysis but rejects the introspection oriented methods relied upon within Freudian psychodynamic psychology. Generally, cognitive theory suggests that perception and corresponding external behavioral responses are dictated by a much more complex set of variables than cause and effect or the one dimensional focus of classical conditioning (Gerrig Zimbardo, 2009). It incorporates internal states of mind as well as subjective variables such as social learning and belief, the cumulative impact of previous experiences, individual desires and perspective, and personal motivation. It also emphasizes the significance of differences in brain structure and function from individual to individual as elements that contribute to the perceptions and responses of different individuals to experiences that are objectively similar (Pinker, 2002). He dreamed of acquiring tremendous wealth in Los Angeles, but later realized that there are more important things than money. In their song, Hotel California, originally titled Mexican Reggae, they (The Eagles) express this idea to their audience through lyrics that convey the idea that there are more important things than just possessions, and there are negatives to the American Dream. The audience in this could be the average person, yet, the rhetorical devices in The Eagles Hotel California are intended to reveal to the audience that there are negatives to the American Dream, and you shouldn t change who you are in order to make it rich. When he uses the term shimmering light it is taken as a positive attribute because objects that shimmer are often taken as being valuable, much like the materialistic items associated with the American dream. When he states his sight grew dim and I had to stop for the night, this represents the underbelly of American Materialism. As a country, Americans are never satisfied with what they have. This is why he describes it as dim and heavy, both of which are taken as having negative connotations. • 39. Formal Mathematical Methods And Hardware Systems Literature Review Formal mathematical methods are system designs that utilize specific rigorous mathematical models in the production of software and hardware systems. The methods are unique in comparison with other methods for they utilize mathematical proof as a complement to system testing so as to ensure a perfect behavior. A formal approach to system designs ensures safety due to the complicated nature of systems. The use of formal verification schemes creates the difference between formal methods and other design systems. Hence, the primary principles of the system must be proven to be right before they are adopted. Extensive testing has been used for long in traditional system designs to ascertain behavior, but only finite conclusions are achieved. Testing only reveals situations where a system would not fail, but the behavior outside the testing scenario is not accounted for. If the result is positive after testing the theorem, then it remains true. An error in design is impossible to fix via formal verification but could help in identification of errors in reasoning which would otherwise be left unverified. BP settled criminal charges with the Justice Department two years ago for $4.5 billion in penalties, but the oil company faces billions of dollars more in costs from a federal civil trial in ... • 47. Secession Dbq 1) The secession was a pivotal moment in American history. When Abraham Lincoln was elected president in 1860, it caused alarm in several Southern states since he did not receive a single electoral vote from them. Since he was the first from the political Republican Party to become president, nobody quite knew what to expect and the South feared that he would disregard and corrode their values. Lincoln desired to place the slaveholding states under the non slaveholding states to prevent slavery from spreading, which was the last straw that pushed South Carolina to secede on December 20, 1860. Even before Lincoln s inauguration on March 4, 1861, seven states seceded. They elected a man from Mississippi, Jefferson Davis, to represent them as they pushed to separate themselves from the union. Not only did they have to elect their own president, but they also had to quickly put together their own ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One event triggered the next, and the next, and so forth. Though the magnitude and impact for each event varies, the fact that most every event had an impact does not. However, I believe that the five most significant event in early American history were the signing of the Declaration of Independence and Constitution, the Delaware Crossing, the Secession, Fort Sumter, and the fight for abolition in the Civil War. a. There is a reason that we celebrate with fireworks on the Fourth of July. The signing of the Declaration of Independence, and later the Constitution, was a pivotal, foundational moment not only for our own country, but also for the world. Never before had the world seen something quite like our cherished documents, and when you look around today, numerous other countries have mirrored their government and constitutions upon our own. These documents sparked and fueled the American Revolution, which lead to our political and religious freedoms and laid a path for others to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. Metaphors In Maus Art is an outlet through which one is capable of conveying their thoughts, emotions and stories. After the Holocaust in particular, people were able to view the world through the viewpoint of these artists. With the ability to see the victim s emotions portrayed visually, one can begin to comprehend them from a personal perspective and understand the sentiments of sorrow. Spiegelman s Maus is an excellent representation of how art can channel emotion. Through his works we are able to uncover the truth of his father s life. Through metaphors especially, Spiegelman is able to portray the oppressive power versus the oppressed. On page 51, panel eight we are especially able to see the metaphor in it s full form, with Vladek depicted as an innocent ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 49. The Theory Of Social Exchange Theory Essay During the course of this week s discussion we will examine the social exchange theory (SET); Dr. Cone did a great job presenting SET to us in this week s media, I hope you all enjoyed it. Now, we can further consider it by applying the concepts to real life situations such as our family case study, our own family, or other examples you find to be beneficial to you and our collective growth as future APNs. In order to guide our discussion and to have a meaningful learning experience I would encourage each of us to answer the following: What do you find most interesting among the theoretical concepts? Provide a brief patient and family scenario that exemplifies a key concept from the presentation. Discuss whether or not you agree with the ideas presented in this media presentation. • 50. Essay on Psycho-Analysis in Mary Shelley s Frankenstein Psycho Analysis in Mary Shelley s Frankenstein Sigmund Freud s studies in psychoanalysis are uncannily fore grounded in the late romantic period. The works of William Wordsworth, Percy B. Shelley, Lord Byron, and Mary Shelley, all function as poetic preludes to Freud s 18th century field. Particularly, it is Mary Shelley s Frankenstein that creates a fictional rendering for psychoanalyst. In Frankenstein, Victor s rejection of the Monster metaphorically represents the ego s rejection of the unconscious. Following from this metaphorical paradigm, Freud s theories on narcissism, the libido theory, the doppelganger, neurosis, and the Oedipus complex all resonate in the pages of Frankenstein. After a brief introduction to narcissism and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Prior to these three blows Man considered himself as the center and ruler of the universe, a narcissistic illusion. The discoveries of Copernicus, Darwin, and Freud drove man s narcissism underground dividing the object (the world), from the subject (the self), or conscious from the unconscious. In the beginning of its development the libido (all erotic tendencies, all capacity for love) in each individual is directed towards the self...It is only until later that, in association with the chief natural functions, the libido flows over and beyond the ego towards objects outside the self, and it is not until then are we able to recognize the libidinal trends as such and distinguish them for the ego instincts. (Freud, One of the Difficulties to Psycho Analysis, 3) The ego instincts are those that are controlled by the conscious mind or the self preservative force. Therefore, in a human paradise the libido and the ego instincts would be one. The sexual drives would work agreeably with the preservative drives. However, in adulthood Freud explains the libidinal drives do not always correspond to those self preserving drives within society. The lack of correspondence causes the onset of repression: a part of the activity of your own mind has been withdrawn from your knowledge and from the command of your will...with one part of your forces you are fighting the other part (Freud, One of the Difficulties ...
