Who Was Responsible For Oedipus s Downfall
Oedipus stubbornness led to his downfall because he thought he was always correct and didn t like
listening to others. He was a static character because he was overconfident and refused to believe
anyone s opinion above his own . By not listening to anyone when the truth came out, he was hurt
emotionally and physically. Oedipus was a man of power and wealth who suddenly falls.
Oedipus saves Thebes from the curse of the Sphinx and becomes the king. Oedipus travels to Delphi
to speak with the oracle to learn the truth about his parents. The oracle tells him that he is going to
murder his father and have sexual feelings for his mother. Oedipus thinks his parents live in a different
town but they do not. Oedipus killed his father and married his mother. Now Creon returns with the

Oedipus asked Tiresias for help but Tiresias refused to tell what he knows. Oedipus begins accusing
Tiresias of Laius s death. In turn, Teiresias accuses Oedipus of being the killer and talks about the bad
things that are going to happen to Oedipus. By Oedipus being short tempered he becomes angry and
tells Tiresias to leave. Jocasta tells Oedipus not to worry about the prophecies because she was once
told a prophecy and it didn t come true. Oedipus is stressed out about Jocasta s remarks because he
killed a man he thought was Laius.
Oedipus then looks for the shepherd. Oedipus learned from an oracle that he was to kill his father and
marry his mother. Jocasta has told him not to worry about the prophecies. The messenger tells
Oedipus that his real parents aren t Polybus and Merope, and that the messenger gave Oedipus to a
couple when the shepherd offered him an abandoned baby. Oedipus wants to know more about his
birth which is a result of him being stubborn. Jocasta wants him to stop. At first, the shepherd doesn t

In March April 1664, Molière wrote a first Tartuffe, in three acts, at a time when devotees gathered
around the powerful Company of the Blessed Sacrament of the Altar, are shocked by the privacy of
Louis XIV, lover Mademoiselle de La Valliere. On the Pleasures of the Enchanted Island in May of the
same year, the sumptuous feast given by King in Versailles, Molière s play The Princess of Elis, The
Unfortunate and Tartuffe. This last work is very successful, and the spectators try to guess which
contemporary could serve as a model for the character of the hero. Immediately, the cabal led by the

so that the king authorized the representation verbally before his departure for Flanders. On August 5,

The Effects Of Eutrophication On Coastal Waters Essay
Eutrophication is a harmful process that occurs when an excess amount of nutrients enter into a water
system. These nutrients, such as nitrates and phosphates, enable plants to grow and are only beneficial
to an ecosystem in small amounts. When an excessive amount of nutrients enter a water system, an
explosive growth of algae is stimulated, creating an extremely low oxygenated environment where
fish and other organisms are unable to survive (Rhyther et al. 1771). These excessive nutrients are
sourced back to a range of anthropogenic activities such as, discharge from sewage treatment plants
and septic tanks, and stormwater runoff from over fertilized lawns, golf courses, and agricultural fields
(NOAA). Globally, eutrophication has become one of the largest pollution problem affecting coastal
waters (Howarth et al., 2000). United States has the second largest consumption rate producing 220
million tons of waste per year just behind China who produces 330 million tons per year (Duan et al.
2008). These enormous amounts of wastes are harming vital parameters of ecosystems. For instance,
Chesapeake Bay off the coast of Virginia is the largest estuary in North America and 70 % of it is
polluted (Boesch et al. 2001).
Overpopulation is on the rise and coastal counties are the fastest growing counties. Approximately
54% of people living in the United States reside in these counties (Iculliton. 1998). As the population
rises, industrialization increases as well. This has

Essay on Analysis of Comparable Worth and the Common Good
The Federal Government has been struggling for almost four decades now to close the gap between
the wages of men and women. In the 1960 s, women were paid approximately 60 cents for every
dollar men received for their work. Although progress has been made since Congress passed the Equal
Pay Act in 1963, equality has not yet been achieved. Today, thirty six years later, women still earn
only seventy six percent of the wages of men.
Early studies found convincing evidence that women were being construed as inferior when it came to
their work. Jobs that were dominated by women were paid less than male dominated jobs, not because
they were intrinsically worth less, but because they were dominated by women (Treiman Hartmann,
1981:93; ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jobs are judged similar, thus comparable, based on composite ratings of requirements such as skill,
effort, responsibility, or other factors valued by an organization. All in all, comparable worth is
necessary because discriminatory pay practices of the past were not fully addressed by equal
employment opportunity legislation, and thus effects have been perpetuated by conventional pay
administration practices (Taylor, 1989). Comparable worth rests on the theory that pay differentials are
caused by sex discrimination. It proposes that sexual segregation in jobs has unjustly depressed
women workers wages. According to Wittig (1989), we may look at how this segregation has
contributed to the wage gap from two viewpoints. Firstly, a significant portion of the sex pay gap has
undoubtedly been caused by job placement discrimination, which has placed women into less skilled,
less demanding jobs. Secondly, the gap may be caused by female jobs being assigned lower pay, even
when the jobs require skill equal to that in male jobs. There are several ways that this discrimination
may be sustained: 1) job segregation related to prejudice by employers, consumers, and co workers; 2)
devaluation of jobs performed primarily by women and minority men; and 3) women and minority
men s job choices, assertiveness about pay, and other group tendencies (Wittig, 1989). So, how does
one go about achieving comparable worth in their organization, you may bee wondering? First, a
method must be

The Importance Of Hard Work In The Short Story Hollywood
The only important thing in life is hard work (Gilb 483). In the short, story Hollywood By Dagoberto
Gilb. Luis, and his wife Marta, and their son Ramon are Hispanic, but only Ramon speaks English.
There are conflicts between each other and others act on the beach. They see things differently than
other, particularly Luis saying what hard work is or not. They do not have a lot of money, and they are
lower class. However, Luis has exceptions, for Ramon on the importance of hard work. Luis shows
irony of unforeseen difference, lack of agreement, truth, and expectation of hard work.
The sun s out. , It s still cold. As Luis and his wife Marta Mention (Gilb 482). The sand was moist, the
air cool, the ocean as gentle as a bay (Gilb 482). They have the whole beach to themselves, because it
was winter in Santa Monica beach. Which meant hotels would be discounted; thus, not a lot of people

addition, Luis would relate things to Ramon so he would understand what Luis was talking about,
hard work. Those boats go around and catch fish so people can eat (Gilb 483). Such as, I work at the
plantation, which is how men make a living off the land.
Throughout Hollywood Gilb expresses their emotions in not having money, nor being able to speak
English, besides their son Ramon who learned it from the babysitter. Luis is Bitter, critical, outraged,
scornful, and miserable. Luis controls everything the family ensures, and Marta learned, long ago you
could not argue with Luis. If they worked like us they wouldn t have to run, Luis said of the joggers.
At least they move to keep warm, Marta shot back (Gilb482). Luis and Marta have been frustrated
with each other since they have arrived at the Santa Monica beach. Luis and his family are lower
class, therefore, did not have the funds for a new blanket, Disneyland, or buying hotdogs on the beach.
She lay down on the old blanket she d never convinced him to replace, draped sweater oversell, and
looped her arm over her eyes. The sun was out. She felt pained (Gilb 482). Marta knew Luis was just

Comparative Analysis of La Belle Dame Sans Merci and The Lovesong of J. Alfred Prufrock It comes
as no surprise that love poems are not a rare commodity. Whether they re about a lovesick man pining
for his soul mate or a general reflection about how one perceives love, these poems offer an analysis
of one of the most innate desires of our human nature. Despite inevitable differences in writing style
and point of view, there can be times where love poems employ similar strategies to tackle such an
analysis. John Keats La Belle Dame Sans Merci and T. S. Eliot s The Lovesong of J. Alfred Prufrock

13, 25 26). Because of how the knight describes the meadow, it can be inferred that it is springtime.
This is a significant contrast to the bleak, wintry hillside that he described previously. With the
contrast in this setting comes a contrast in how the knight characterizes love. In the meadow, the
knight meets a beautiful woman with long hair and wild eyes. The knight describes her as having an
almost fairy like presence (Ln. 14 16). He makes her a garland for her head and bracelets from the
flowers in the meadow (Ln. 17 20). The woman eventually takes the knight back to her elfin grot , or,
cave, where he kisses her. By establishing a different setting where the knight appears to experience
love, the second setting in La Belle Dame Sans Merci serves to resolve the knight s alienation and
abandonment from love. T.S. Eliot s The Lovesong of J. Alfred Prufrock similarly offers a second
setting where Prufrock tries to recall love to resolve his alienation from it. The dirty, urban, insidious
streets laced with an ominous yellow fog suggest that Prufrock is alienated from love. He fears not
being able to find a woman that will be able to look past his physical inadequacies. However, Prufrock
attempts to resolve his alienation by shifting the setting from the insidious streets of a city to the
beach. The mermaids

The Pros And Cons Of The Progressive Era
Working only to die or lose a limb, being a woman with no voice, and dealing with unsanitary meat
and food has never been the ideal lifestyle. The Progressive Era was a period of widespread social
activism and political reform across the United States from 1890 to the 1920 s. The main objectives of
the progressive movement were eliminating problems caused by industrialization,
urbanization, immigration and corruption in government (Progressive Era). Yet people in the
Progressive Era fought to change abuses with things like working conditions by going on strike or
forming groups like labor unions, the 19th amendment to help women in America have the right to
vote, and things like the pure food and drug act and the meat inspection act to protect the consumers.
People went on strike meaning they stopped going to work to change the work conditions. They felt if
there was no workers there was no factories, they wanted better conditions and going on strike was the
start to this. Women also went on strike they protested until the Nineteenth Amendment was passed.
Lastly 2 food acts were passed to protect the consumers from the meat that was causing illness and
death. Despite previous arguments the progressive era was no joke nothing about it was okay until the
people were able to get reform laws changed.
During the time of 1900 1917 working conditions in America were horrible. President Theodore
Roosevelt had championed the conservation movement to save human lives (progressive era

Narcissistic Identity Identify With Conduct On Facebook
Introduction
Narcissism is a multiplex concept and represents different characteristics, demonstrative of both good
and horrible practices (Kubarych et al, 2004) that may clarify the inspirations driving social
networking sites use. In this way, conceptualizing narcissism as only a sole construct may make us
misconstrue the ways in which social networking platforms are utilized to fulfill different
psychological needs. Research has begun to analyze how undesirable parts of narcissistic identity
identify with conduct on Facebook (Carpenter, 2012).
The modern study seeks to explain the good and the undesirable parts of narcissism by discussing
about narcissism and how it relates to social networking sites use. Therefore, key differences in the
affordances of social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram relevant to narcissism
research are then discussed, highlighting the ways in which the observed association between
narcissism and social networking platforms use may change depending on the type of social
networking platforms used and the behavior assessed (Panek et al, 2013).
Overall usage of various social media platforms are an integral part of life. With social platforms has

Difference Between Renewable Resources And Non Energy...
1/ A clear explanation of the difference between renewable resources and non renewable resources
Renewable resources can be used and replaced. Examples are fish stocks, forests, or water. They are
resources that will refilled by itself through reproduction, plantation and by nature cycle. They are
natural resources that technically regenerate itselves through ecological process.
Non renewable resources, such as coal, oil, gold and cooper, are land resources which once used will
never be replaced. Once they are used, the quantity of those kinds of resources would be reduced.
Scarcity may exist in this situation, Scarcity implies that there are unlimited wants in the world but
with limited resources. For resources like coal, mine, gold ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Examples of complements are tennis rackets and tennis balls, washing machines and soap powder,
DVD disks and DVD recorders. Economics theory suggests that an increase in the quantity demanded
of one complement will lead to an increase in the demand for another, result in an increase in the price
and quantity bought of the other complement. For examples, an increase in supply and the consequent
fall in price of I phone 6S will lead to a rise in the quantity of I phone 6S and a rise in demand of I
Watch. Shown in Figure 2a and 2b.
A good is in joint supply with another good when one good is supplied for two different purposes. For
instance, oil are supported for by product like petroleum and Vaseline health product. A cow may give
both leather and beef. When two or more goods are produced together, so that a change in supply of
one good will necessarily change the supply of the other goods with which it is in joint supply. Figure
3, shows that an increase in demand for oil lead an increase in both price and quantity bought and sold
of petroleum More oil production will lead, as a by product to greater supply of Vaseline. In Figure

and quantity demanded, bought and sold will increase.

To identify the importance of the play, Wilson introduces symbolism as a mean of the play. The
symbols the piano, Sutter s ghost, and the song bring about the core of the play, and give a deeper look
into The Piano Lesson.
The play starts off with Boy Willie and his friend Lymon heading towards north to Pittsburgh. Their
intentions are to sell a truck load of watermelons, and most of all to convince Berniece into selling the
piano. Boy Willie knows very well that Berniece will not give up the piano, but resumes with his
journey to sell the piano. The piano in this play is the heart of the play. It is the main cause for the
tension between Boy Willie and Berniece. The piano has brought upon many grieves to the Charles
family, and has caused many lives. The piano is a symbol for every life that it has taken. And for those
lives, Berniece resists in letting go of the piano. Even though, it is the most important matter in the
family. To Berniece, the piano is also a prize possession because of their ancestors, but most of all she
refuses to sell it because their mother polished it everyday after their father died. Berniece accuses
Boy Willie of not considering what their mother has done. But even after all that their family has gone
through to finally claim the piano, Boy Willie wants to sell it anyway. The piano is the only family
value that both siblings can hold on to and pass on to next generations. Boy Willie feels

The Beauty Of Spring, By Gerard Manley Hopkins
At first, Gerard Manley Hopkins s poem, Spring, seems to be just about the season of spring per its
title. However, in considering Hopkins s Catholic Christian background, this poem is also about
beauty and sin and their effects on nature in relation to the story in the book of Genesis about Adam
and Eve. Spring is a Petrarchan sonnet split into an octet and sestet and is organized in such a way to
allow Hopkins to discuss beauty and how it (through sin) corrupts itself and humanity personified in
the season of spring and Adam and Eve, accordingly. The themes of the beauty of spring and the
nature of the Garden and humanity are essential in the poet s Christian understanding of sin and the
Incarnation and Passion of Jesus Christ. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, in the case of this poem by Hopkins, no problem is introduced in the octet, but is in the
sestet. Hopkins signifies this turn by asking a question about the nature of spring s beauty and where it
is from, just as juice is the characteristic flavor and essence of fruit in one meaning of the word (OED
n.1.a.). Hopkins answers this question by mentioning the Christian view of the earth s sweet being in
the beginning, thus referring to the Garden of Eden in Genesis (10 11). As inferred by Hopkins in the
first stanza and the Christian tradition which he holds, the Garden was a place of life and flourishing
rather than death, and the beginning refers to the creation story involving Adam and Eve. Thus,
according to Hopkins, the beauty of spring is identified in the sestet as a strain from the earth s sweet
being in the beginning in the Garden of Eden (10 11). Furthermore, the sestet involves a change of
word choice and figurative language instead of merely a topic change. After describing where spring s
beauty arises, the poet prayerfully addresses Christ and asks him to retrieve this strain of spring s
beauty before it cloy[s] / cloud[s]...and [makes] sour with sinning the innocent mind and Mayday in
girl and boy (10 13). In this address, cloy refers to the potential for spring to disgust the innocence of

Government Spending On Welfare And The Gross Domestic Product
Introduction
Various governments send out information regarding how various tax revenues are utilizes on people
who pay these taxes. Spending is always broken into numerous categories and welfare is one of the
biggest categories. Expenditure on welfare is directly extracted from government statistics[1]. There
has been a great debate as to whether government spending on welfare has any relationship with the
size of a country s GDP[2]. As such, this research is meant to demystify the situation. The purpose of
carrying out this research is to examine any underlying correlation between the government spending
in welfare of the people and the gross domestic product.
There are two hypotheses as far as this subject is concerned. One sates that ... Show more content on

Additionally, people who are working in countries that have better welfare will be in a better position
to work and hence help build the GDP. Hence, carrying out the research will help the researcher be
able to choose between the two hypotheses and hence determine whether government expenditure on
welfare effects the growth of the GDP or stagnation of the same.
Literature Review
The question of whether or not there is a correlation between government spending on welfare and the
GDP has thrown policy makers into debates and clearly differing theoretical camps[3]. Empirical
studies have given confusing evidence as some of the studies have favored one approach or the other
depending on many factors in consideration. The huge growth of government spending on the welfare
of the people in both development and developing countries since the times of the Second World War
and its effect on the gross domestic product has produced a wide literature that offers distinct attempts
to expound on the observed relationship[4].
On the other side, studies on public finance have been channels on the identification of the primary
causes of the growth in public sector expenditure. Among the earliest trials to explain, the growth in
the economic growth and expenditure in the public sector is Wagner s Law. This law is based on the
observations of Adolf Wagner. His observations were first for his country and then for rest of the
world. He states that

The Duration Of Unemployment As Provided By The Bureau Of...
The duration of unemployment as provided by the Bureau of Labor Statistics was an average of 28.1

for May was 30.7 weeks, and a year ago it was 31.4 weeks (BLS 2015). The difficulty of finding a job
seems to go up after the first month after being unemployed. The people who are unemployed for 15
to 26 weeks have the least trouble finding jobs (BLS 2015). After 27 weeks, more people have
difficulty finding jobs (BLS 2015). A possible explanation is that unemployed people look like worse
candidates the longer they are unemployed, so they have a harder time to find work as time goes on.

Many organizations that lend money use this rate as a guideline for the interest rates they charge
customers (Streissguth 2011). To determine the prime rate, the Wall Street Journal first carries out
surveys of 30 large banks to determine the consensus prime rate (Streissguth 2011). The prime rate is
also determined in part by the federal funds rate, which is decided by the Federal Open Market
Committee (FOMC), so the prime rate normally changes when the federal funds rate changes
(Streissguth 2011). Generally, lenders will keep their total interest rates above the prime rate
(Streissguth 2011). According to Patrick Gillespie, the FOMC is likely to raise the federal funds rate in
September. He believes they are putting off raising rates due to low inflation along with the rise of the
dollar (Gillespie 2015).

ISA CONTROLLED ASSESSMENT THERMISTOR ANSWERS Essay
ISA CONTROLLED ASSESSMENT Thermistors SECTION 2 ( Part 1 )
Answers
1. Yes the results support my hypothesis, which was, as the temperature increases the resistances
decreases. For example the resistance at 20OC was ______ and at 50OC it was ______ which was
much lower.
Also the graph shows a negative correlation with a curve of best fit. This shows the relationship is not
Ohmic as it is not a straight line.
2. EITHER;
Yes I had an anomalous result, it was at a temperature of __OC. It was higher/lower (select the correct
one) than it should have been. If the resistance at this temperature had been on my line of best fit the
value should have been _____ Ohms(read this off your graph).
No I did not have any anomalous results. I know ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
THERE ARE NO OTHER CORRECT ANSWERS
6. The smallest interval was 10OC, i.e. the difference between 20OC and 30OC. Yes this was a
suitable interval because by moving from 20OC to 30OC there was a difference in the resistance of
_____ Ohms. It was also possible to see a pattern in the results using intervals of 10OC. However to
create a more accurate line of best fit I could have used intervals of 5OC. If I had the resistance value
of 15OC would have been ______ Ohms (read this off your graph).
CIRCLE the anomalous results in BOTH the table of results and graph if you have any. Make sure you
say;
a. Whether each result is a higher or lower value than it should be.
b. What could have caused it, the best answers for this are;
i. If it was too high, the thermistor was not given time to warm to the temperature of the water bath
and therefore was taking a reading at a lower temperature. ii. If it was too low the temperature must
have been higher than thought. The way this could have happened is if the thermistor was held close
to the heating element in the water bath and been in a hot spot.
7. The results could be useful because in the context a company is always making a product which
will turn something on (a thermostat in a house central heating system, fire alarm in a room which has
got hot) or off (a kettle when the water is at 100OC). The manufacture needs to know the resistance at
the temperatures which are important for these functions, so that they can

Online Communities. To start off my essay I would like to stress on the fact that an online community
is not created online communities evolve and flourish. Most of the well built online communities take
time and effort to establish them. In this essay I will be covering topics like how people interact in an
online community, also will be looking at how to facilitate a successful online discussion and how to
evaluate the success or failure of an online community. With the dawn of the new century and
advances in computing, companies and organisations realised the importance of getting a target

They also have specific rules to follow for each community. The commercialization has also affected
the need for online secure and private places where employees can interact in a better and faster
medium than email or phone. As commercial organisations face up to modern commercial pressures
and react with measures such as downsizing and outsourcing, (Hildreth,2004, vii) they have realised
the need for creating communities which are virtual and need to communicate with each other over
large distances and different time zones. The reasons for an online community for large business
organizations is that they can get expert advice from people who specialise in their fields and are
appointed as online experts to help their sub employees get maximum performance and their questions
answered in faster way which will directly help in their productivity. There can be announcements
which can be posted and read by everyone who is intended to read which is way better than email
since they can discuss and many people can read without numerous numbers of emails back and forth
if they have any doubts. It is a brilliant platform for them to discuss their opinions and can be flowed

The United Fruit Company was founded 1899, after the takeover of the Boston Fruit Company, thus
forming the largest banana company in the world (Landmeier, 1997). Through strategic business

This new company had 112 miles of railroad, 212,394 acres of land, and a capital of $11,230,00 and
proceeded to buy lands in Santo Domingo, Honduras, Guatemala, Panama, and Cuba, and increase
additional acreage in Nicaragua, Jamaica, and Colombia (May and Plaza 1958, p.7) as well as

Primarily, the first issue that arises is the fact that a company that was founded in the United States
dealing with military dictatorships in less advanced politically as well as economically countries than
themselves is undoubtedly a form of exploitation, but also manipulation as citizens of the United
States would not have been aware such a relationship existed between the United Fruit company and
Latin American military dictatorships. In addition to this, Frank Pearce (1976) argues that corporations
with the connivance of the American state act systematically to control the markets in which they
operate. Using the example of the United Fruit Company in Guatemala from 1899 to 1944, we can see
this to be accurate as by doing business with dictators, United Fruit grew into el pulpo (the octopus)
with a vast enterprise extending far beyond were it extracted bananas (Dosal 2005, p.3).Linking in
with this, it is often the case that whilst exploiting a foreign populace the corporation is not acting on
its own. The state can act as a facilitator for the process of exploitation and profit over people. For
example, the U.S Government bears responsibility for United Fruit s enterprises as it encouraged the
government of Guatemala to adopt policies that would benefit American enterprise and the United
Fruit Company (Dosal 2005, p.3). Corporations and the state participate in criminality as a direct
result of the nature and ethos of capitalism. Despite the

Analysis Of Quentin Tarantino s The World Of...
In his interview, Quentin Tarantino describes Inglourious Basterds as a product of his imagination
(Gilby 175). If one had watched the film, he can see that the film is based on the real World War II
setting as it portrays actual key figures Hitler, Goebbels, and Churchill and events around that time,
such as German occupation in Paris and the Holocaust. Even though the film uses actual World War II
setting, the story as a whole is a pure fiction. The film is a fictional alternate history of two different,
but intertwined plots to assassinate Hitler. In reality, Hitler was not assassinated by the Jews, nor by
Americans because he committed suicide. But, in the world of Inglourious Basterds, Tarantino twists
the actual history by creating a fictional story of Hitler s assassination, which is effectively achieved
by Shoshanna, a French Jewish cinema proprietor, and two Jewish American soldiers from the
Basterds, a team of Jewish American soldiers led by Lt. Aldo Raine. What Tarantino wants to imply
through this film is that in the world of film, anything can be made possible, even altering history, at
the filmmaker s discretion. Tarantino has let his imagination run wild and satisfied the what if
questions that not only he but also others might have: What if Jews retaliated back and fight the
Nazis? What if Americans have killed Hitler and dismantled Third Reich? Through Inglourious
Basterds, Quentin Tarantino recognizes cinema as a medium that has the power to deviate

One aspect of Ethics in Academics is academic dishonesty, or cheating. Studies have shown that
students are more accepting of cheating. Most feel the pressure to succeed, so they will do things that
they know should not be done. Socrates believed that this form of ethics, knowing what we ought to
do, can be taught. ( Carroll, A.) Today s society is teaching children that the need to get ahead is
greater than character development. Others feel cheating is a mind set and that mind set makes a
difference between being taught and actually learning.
With the aid of modern technology, cheating is easier to get away with. (Eberhardt, 1) Camera cell
phones, laptops, and Ipods are some of the tools enabling students to cheat and even plagiarize. The
rational incentives to cheat have grown dramatically. Glater. J.) Whatever the reason, academic
dishonesty is receiving more and more attention especially on the college level. This puts teachers in a
dilemma to thwart attempts by banning cell phones, disabling the internet in classrooms, or even
developing ways to check for plagiarism. Until we come up with a no tolerance attitude about
cheating, students will continue to use it as a way to get ahead.

College Dropout Papers
College Dropouts throughout the U.S.
There are many reasons why over the years the United States has experienced a high college dropout
rate among college students. The dropout rate results in unqualified and poorly skilled workers who
eventually apply for low paying jobs and then realize the importance of a college degree. College
dropout rates throughout the U.S. are caused by several reasons, including, lack of finance, lack of
academic readiness, and stress. Many students have aspirations about attending the college of their
dreams, but many people lack financial support and are not able to go because of high tuition
payments, such as housing, and other college expenses. U.S. Student Loans Debt Statistics for 2017
indicate that the cost of attending college is becoming a growing burden for a huge portion of
Americans. (Student Loan Hero). Students are left with the option of dropping and leaving school.
Even after receiving some financial support, such as scholarships and grants, students have limited
amount of money to pay off their expenses. At the start of their college career, students apply for the
colleges they would like to go to, and many forget about the financial decision that is required to pay
for college. A 2010 study on more than 200,000 freshmen at four year colleges, more students rated
themselves as below average in emotional health than ever before. The financial stress of worrying
about their college loans and whether they ll find a job after college and the day to day stress of
making decisions for themselves in all aspects of their lives. (Allianz). Unfortunately, freshman
students are the main group of college students that go through financial conflicts, leading to stress
about how to pay for college. Some students choose to work their way through college. Others decide
they d rather be making money working full time than pursuing a costly degree. Still others become
discouraged at the prospect of incurring loan debt (College View). According to Public Agenda, Work
is the top reason young adults give for not returning to college once they leave. More than a third (36

Textual Evidence Analysis
Teaching students how to provide accurate evidence from parts of stories, such as chapters, dramas,
and poems when writing or speaking about a text, and to describe how each successive part builds on
earlier sections is significantly important, because it improves the student reading comprehension
skills, which is a prerequisite for becoming a great reader. Previously, I taught my student to identify
key elements in a story to help her find the main idea and to use context clues to determine meaning of
words. However, after the lesson, I noticed my student made a poor effort to refer back to the story
when writing or talking about the story to provide appropriate evidence. In this lesson, my student will
not only summarize the story, but my student will also go back to the chapters, paragraph or stanzas to
provide accurate evidence. By doing that, my student will successfully completed the New York State

with her step mother and her 2 step sisters, she is not treated with respect, more like a servant. She

issues with gender roles and stereotypes. It suggests when determining a woman s worth, it is based on
their physical appearance, not on other aspects of them, such as personalities or beliefs. These ideas
are clearly evident in sections of the film when Cinderella is determined as ugly because of her
original rag like clothing, this idea changes when she is dressed in her ball gown, because of this the
prince falls in love with her.

Essay on Militirization and Modernization in Petrine Russia
Militarization and Modernization in Petrine Russia
In the eighteenth century, the political, economic, and socio cultural fabric of Russian life underwent
important changes. Generally speaking, these changes were indicative of a transition from an isolated
position of Muscovite Russia still ingrained with a mentality characteristic of the Middle Ages to a
new consciousness of modernization and increased westernization. This major shift in Russian history
was the product of broad, deliberate reform, accredited to the reign of Peter the Great (1694 1725),
which ushered in European art, literature, philosophy, and ideas of political organization and
administration. Willingly accepted or not, large scale government intervention was evident ... Show

by virtually ceaseless and insatiable military ambition. Beginning with the war against Turkey in
1695, Peter would wage war against Sweden, Poland, and the Ottoman Empire as well as express
interest in the viability of places such as China and Japan. Peter s foreign policies were ambitious: he
endeavoured to regain territories that were thought to be historically Russian such as the Baltic States,
Poland, and Ukraine; sought access to international waterways; and aimed to extend and set up Russia
s boundaries for defence strategy as well as for a closer affinity with the Western world. Russia,
therefore, become a major player in the international arena and that was due to Peter s creation and
development of a standing permanent army and navy that were integral to forging Russia into a world
power.
Peter s military reforms were a break from Russia s past. Traditionally, Russia relied on a militia
offensive and later the more regimented and structured military unit, the

The American Dream In Jon Krakauer s Into The Wild
The major tenets of the quintessential American dream can be found in the ideology of every person
proud to be an American. The America seen today is not the same as it was 50 years prior, so how can
one expect the central dream to be the same? In fact, each person has developed an opinion on what
the American dream may mean for him/her. For one, the dream may still be the white picket fence still
life from so many years ago, but for another, it may be the accumulation of riches and fame. In Jon
Krakauer s Into the Wild, he shows us that Chris McCandless cared not for the quotidian rat race he
had grown so accustomed to, but more for the intricacies that the natural world had to offer. I believe
that although Chris McCandless may not have made it out of Alaska alive, he still succeeded in
discovering what he went there for, and in turn died fulfilling his own American dream.
The dictionary defines the American dream as the ideals of freedom, equality, and opportunity
traditionally held to be available to every American. Chris McCandless came from a wealthy family
with everything he could ever need being provided for him. His parents had achieved the conventional
American dream. They had enough money to provide for their family and then some, a nice home, and
a good education for the whole family. To the outsider looking in, it would be easy to assume that
Chris McCandless had a perfect life full of everything he desired and unrelenting happiness. This was
not the case.

Comparison Of Comic Books And World War II
Comic Books and World War II During World War II, every major country participated, typically by
supplying troops, supplies, and weaponry to one side. However, throughout the duration of the
conflict, one country in particular fought against their foes with a different weapon. The country was
the United States of America. The weapon: comic books, yes, comic books. Now popular for their big
screen adaptations, comic books have been circulated since the Great Depression and they played an
influential role in World War II. Through the course of the war, comics were used as propaganda, both
to slander the enemy and bolster morale back home. In those days, comics had been in existence for
less than a decade and the war was what catapulted them ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They provided an escape from the fear included among the other emotions which often occurred
during the war. Their effect was so great that Hitler went so far as to ban comic books from being
circulated in Germany, except for his personal favorite, Mickey Mouse. From this short period in
history spawned several characters that have endured long enough to see, in some cases multiple,
cinematic interpretations alongside small screen adaptations. Undoubtedly, the effect that comic books
had on the American psyche will never quite be

Similarities Between Web Dubois And Booker T Washington
Both Booker T. Washington and WEB Dubois were radical men of their time, and each managed to
have great contributions to the overall welfare of blacks. However, their methods for increasing black
status differed greatly. While Booker T. Washington believed that respect for blacks would come
gradually through education, WEB Dubois felt that black people should protest against their fate.
Although Booker T. Washington s methods were appropriate in that past time, WEB Dubois had some
good points that fit in more with modern society.
Born a slave, Booker T. Washington was an educated man who gave his life to promote the education
of blacks, and believed strongly that education was the first step to acceptance. Through his writings
and speeches, Booker T. Washington showed his belief in the dignity of work. He was not wealthy,
and saved pennies for his own schooling by sleeping under a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Washington had similarities in their ideas. Both Washington and DuBois tended to blame Negroes
themselves for their condition. They both placed emphasis on self help and moral improvement rather
than on rights. They both also wanted African Americans to have the same rights as white Americans.
WEB Dubois said The history of the American Negro is the history of this strife, this longing to attain
self conscious manhood, to merge his double self into a better and truer self. In this merging he wishes
neither of the older selves to be lost... He simply wishes to make it possible for a man to be both a
Negro and an American... This shows that WEB Dubois is blaming the Negroes for their condition. In
reaction, Booker T. Washington said The man who has learned to do something better than anyone
else, has learned to do a common thing in an uncommon manner, is the man who has a power and
influence that no adverse circumstances can take from him . In this quote, Booker T. Washington is
talking about that the Negroes have the power to change their

Analysis Of Swifty s Kid The Wall
1.) Being in a new neighborhood and a new school puts a kid in a difficult situation, and Rafe
Khatchadorian is no exception. When Swifty s Diner burns down it s bye bye Hills Village and hello
big city. One of the main disappointments Rafe faces is the fact that he will not be able to attend the
art school in which he had been accepted Airbrook. He fears that he will not make any new friends,
and that school will be a complete and utter disaster (much like his previous school year at Hills
Village Middle School). Things are looking up when he gets accepted to another art school in the city,
even better than Airbrook Cathedral School of the Arts. But it s not all he thought it would be, and he
has to learn to adjust to his new school. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Donatello. She was his old English teacher in Hills Village Middle School, and they were originally
enemies. But she was the one who helped him get into Airbrook and now she s the one who got him
an interview. Part of this book s charm was the irony and humor found in it. 10.) Rafe takes the
knowledge of his father s death pretty well. Learning that his father went overseas to fight in a war
and didn t really abandon them helped him accept his father s absence from his life, in a way. Finding
out about his father gave him a sense of closure no more wondering why he left and what happened to
him. Rafe s great uncle played a role in helping Rafe discover the truth about his father. He had told
Rafe that he needed to speak with his mother and in truth, this was exactly the right advice. It didn t
happen right away, but when it did, he finally learned the truth about his father. 11.) Moving back to
Hills Village is a positive move for everyone in Rafe s family. Rafe can get away from the crazy
drama that went down at Cathedral, yet still get the chance to have a good art education at Airbrook.

United States Based Urban Slavery
Research Question: How was United States based urban slavery different than United States based
rural slavery? In the average American s eyes, there is always assumptions made about slavery and the
nature of slavery. Slavery was something that many people relied on for centuries. It is not something
that can be easily forgotten and the importance of it cannot be understated. Slavery was simply the
bondage of peoples who were then forced into labor on farms or in the city. Believe it or not, slavery
did exist outside the standard cotton plantation and tobacco farms in the South. Slavery was all over
the southern part of the country whether on a farm or in the ever expanding cities. Slaves could also be
found in small farms and towns. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There were several key differences about each of them and each had their own place within the
American economy. Urban slavery and rural slavery were different from each other in terms of
location, living conditions, and slave agency.
Firstly, location was important if talking about rural and urban slavery. Within the rural slavery
system, there were different sized farms that a slave might belong to. Smaller farms were the norm in
places like Kentucky, and they did not require large amounts of slaves like the cotton plantations.
Within those smaller farms like in Kentucky, slaves were not needed in large numbers like the Deep
South simply because Kentucky grew different crops like corn and hemp which did not require large
numbers of gang laborers. A farmer only needed the amount of slaves necessary for the job to be done
which set artificial limits on farmers for the number of slaves a farmer would own. A farmer in
Kentucky growing hemp is not going to need 300 slaves to do the job, only 5 or 6, 1 and this smaller
sized farm relied on the few slaves it had in order to survive. The, ...size of most Kentucky farms was
a contrary variable to slave efficiency and also diminished the need for an expanding slave population.
In comparison, the expansion of cotton production in the Lower South created not only changes in the
nature of slave employment, but a seemingly insatiable demand for more slaves. 1 Here in looking at
the size of plantations,

The Importance Of Trauma In Children
It pointed out that a child can sense a trauma very easily in another person even if that person is trying
to cover it up. The article showed that kids who grow up with caregivers that are suffering from a
trauma often feel that trauma for themselves, for example a parent exhibiting depression often times
leads to a child feeling depression which is why I believe a person with a caregiver suffering from
mental illness is more likely to suffer from that same illness. To me this explains statistics associated
with susceptibility of children to have similar issues as their parents. Children also learn their coping
mechanisms from their parents which can lead to the same types of problems.
Another form of trauma that can very easily effect the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rubino finished his Master s he completed his practicum at Catholic Social Services which led to him
opening his own private practice. In his practice, he explained, he largely sees adults and some
adolescence but he did let me know that he often sees people that are suffering from a trauma that they
have endured during their lives, many of which experienced the trauma during their childhood years.
In his transition period between getting his practice up and running and finishing his Master s, Mr.
Rubino worked as a prison psychologist which he described as an eye opening experience to why
exactly people commit crimes. He described his eye opening experience as a result of dealing with
inmates. He initially detested many of the inmates due to the fact that many times that they would
interact, they would try to steal things.
In his prison experience he described that every single inmate he talked to had some sort of history of
personal trauma. This made me think that trauma may be directly linked with criminal behavior. Mr.
Rubino went on to tell me that one inmate in particular had the most positive demeanor and seemed to
really have him self together compared to the group he was among in prison. However, he was one of
the people who Mr. Rubino found was most commonly stealing

Diphenyltetrazolium Bromide Lab Report
2.10. MTT Assay 3 [4,5 dimethylthiazol 2 yl]2,5 diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) is a yellow
water soluble tetrazolium salt. A mitochondrial enzyme in living cells, succinate dehydrogenase,
cleaves the tetrazolium ring, converting the MTT to an insoluble purple formazan. Therefore, the
amount of formazan produced is directly proportional to the number of viable cells. After 48 h of
incubation, 15 L of MTT (5 mg/mL) in phosphate buffered saline (PBS) was added to each well and
incubated at 37˚C for 4 h. The medium with MTT was then flicked off and the formed formazan
crystals were solubilized in 100 l of DMSO and then measured the absorbance at 570 nm using

Mattress Target Audience
Customer profile / target market
For the development of the smart bed mattress the target audience will be pretty broad. The mattress is
a product that can be used by people of any age or gender or religious preference, etc. However the
target audience to purchase will be anyone over the age of 18 as they are more likely to have the
financial ability to make such a purchase. It would also be directed at the middle class and higher as
this will not be a bottom of the line mattress. Geographical area is unimportant as the mattress can be
shipped to a customer s home by online purchase. In the beginning there would most likely only be a
single location for a customer to actually see and feel the mattress. Hopefully, the mattress will ...

Mattress Firm is the leading mattress company in the line of business with more than 3,500 stores in
49 states. The market share for Mattress Firm is 25.2%, which is huge in this market. A strength for
Mattress Firm is brand loyalty and they have a proven track record of growth. The weakness is that
they do not offer a mattress like the smart bed mattress . Sleep Number is in a distant second with a
market share of 7.8% with 488 stores. Sleep Number does have the advantage of having a
technologically driven company and as of September 2016 is offering the ItBed, which offers even
more personalization than its other mattresses all while coming shipped in a small convenient box.
The ItBed is filled with air pockets, which I feel is a weakness due to the fact that these air pockets
can burst and then you have a broken mattress. Sears is a well known company that is in almost every
state and has an internet presence as well. Sears does not manufacture the mattresses that they sell as
they are just a distributor of other mattress companies. However, Sears does have brand loyalty and
has been in business for a very long time, which makes them

The Great Purge Of The Cold War
Joseph Stalin s determination greatly affected his leadership and led to the beginnings of the Cold War.
His determination allowed him to rise to power and destroy all opposition against his reign. The Great
Purge, one of the greatest terrors in history, was also done due to his determination to stay in power.
This same determination led to, as well as shaped, a large quantity of the events of World War 2. His
leadership was similar to the leadership of Adolf Hitler, yet because of his determination, was quite
different, and quite possibly more effective. In the end his determination for power led to the events of
the Cold War.
This determination greatly affected Stalin s rise to power, and allowed him to completely decimate all
opposition to his leadership. Originally, Stalin was a powerless citizen of the USSR, yet he managed
to quickly rise to the top of the political field. He began his role in politics by joining the Bolsheviks
in 1903. Due to his thirst for power he steadily rose through the ranks of the party and was soon the
General Secretary. The Bolshevik insurrection to Russian leadership was successful and placed Stalin
in a position of great power. He then used his power to isolate members of the party in an attempt to
take away their power and popularity. Determined to gain absolute dominance over the other
members, he caused the dismissal, and possibly the deaths, of several of his political opponents. This
left him in total rule over the Communist party,

  • 4. The Effects Of Eutrophication On Coastal Waters Essay Eutrophication is a harmful process that occurs when an excess amount of nutrients enter into a water system. These nutrients, such as nitrates and phosphates, enable plants to grow and are only beneficial to an ecosystem in small amounts. When an excessive amount of nutrients enter a water system, an explosive growth of algae is stimulated, creating an extremely low oxygenated environment where fish and other organisms are unable to survive (Rhyther et al. 1771). These excessive nutrients are sourced back to a range of anthropogenic activities such as, discharge from sewage treatment plants and septic tanks, and stormwater runoff from over fertilized lawns, golf courses, and agricultural fields (NOAA). Globally, eutrophication has become one of the largest pollution problem affecting coastal waters (Howarth et al., 2000). United States has the second largest consumption rate producing 220 million tons of waste per year just behind China who produces 330 million tons per year (Duan et al. 2008). These enormous amounts of wastes are harming vital parameters of ecosystems. For instance, Chesapeake Bay off the coast of Virginia is the largest estuary in North America and 70 % of it is polluted (Boesch et al. 2001). Overpopulation is on the rise and coastal counties are the fastest growing counties. Approximately 54% of people living in the United States reside in these counties (Iculliton. 1998). • 5. Essay on Analysis of Comparable Worth and the Common Good The Federal Government has been struggling for almost four decades now to close the gap between the wages of men and women. In the 1960 s, women were paid approximately 60 cents for every dollar men received for their work. Although progress has been made since Congress passed the Equal Pay Act in 1963, equality has not yet been achieved. Today, thirty six years later, women still earn only seventy six percent of the wages of men. Early studies found convincing evidence that women were being construed as inferior when it came to their work. Jobs that were dominated by women were paid less than male dominated jobs, not because they were intrinsically worth less, but because they were dominated by women (Treiman Hartmann, 1981:93; ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Jobs are judged similar, thus comparable, based on composite ratings of requirements such as skill, effort, responsibility, or other factors valued by an organization. All in all, comparable worth is necessary because discriminatory pay practices of the past were not fully addressed by equal employment opportunity legislation, and thus effects have been perpetuated by conventional pay administration practices (Taylor, 1989). Comparable worth rests on the theory that pay differentials are caused by sex discrimination. It proposes that sexual segregation in jobs has unjustly depressed women workers wages. According to Wittig (1989), we may look at how this segregation has contributed to the wage gap from two viewpoints. Firstly, a significant portion of the sex pay gap has undoubtedly been caused by job placement discrimination, which has placed women into less skilled, less demanding jobs. Secondly, the gap may be caused by female jobs being assigned lower pay, even when the jobs require skill equal to that in male jobs. There are several ways that this discrimination may be sustained: 1) job segregation related to prejudice by employers, consumers, and co workers; 2) devaluation of jobs performed primarily by women and minority men; and 3) women and minority men s job choices, assertiveness about pay, and other group tendencies (Wittig, 1989). So, how does one go about achieving comparable worth in their organization, you may bee wondering? First, a method must be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Whether they re about a lovesick man pining for his soul mate or a general reflection about how one perceives love, these poems offer an analysis of one of the most innate desires of our human nature. Despite inevitable differences in writing style and point of view, there can be times where love poems employ similar strategies to tackle such an analysis. John Keats La Belle Dame Sans Merci and T. Because of how the knight describes the meadow, it can be inferred that it is springtime. This is a significant contrast to the bleak, wintry hillside that he described previously. With the contrast in this setting comes a contrast in how the knight characterizes love. In the meadow, the knight meets a beautiful woman with long hair and wild eyes. The knight describes her as having an almost fairy like presence (Ln. 14 16). He makes her a garland for her head and bracelets from the flowers in the meadow (Ln. 17 20). The woman eventually takes the knight back to her elfin grot , or, cave, where he kisses her. By establishing a different setting where the knight appears to experience love, the second setting in La Belle Dame Sans Merci serves to resolve the knight s alienation and abandonment from love. T.S. Eliot s The Lovesong of J. Alfred Prufrock similarly offers a second setting where Prufrock tries to recall love to resolve his alienation from it. The dirty, urban, insidious streets laced with an ominous yellow fog suggest that Prufrock is alienated from love. He fears not being able to find a woman that will be able to look past his physical inadequacies. However, Prufrock attempts to resolve his alienation by shifting the setting from the insidious streets of a city to the beach. The mermaids ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Progressive Era was a period of widespread social activism and political reform across the United States from 1890 to the 1920 s. The main objectives of the progressive movement were eliminating problems caused by industrialization, urbanization, immigration and corruption in government (Progressive Era). Yet people in the Progressive Era fought to change abuses with things like working conditions by going on strike or forming groups like labor unions, the 19th amendment to help women in America have the right to vote, and things like the pure food and drug act and the meat inspection act to protect the consumers. People went on strike meaning they stopped going to work to change the work conditions. They felt if there was no workers there was no factories, they wanted better conditions and going on strike was the start to this. Women also went on strike they protested until the Nineteenth Amendment was passed. Lastly 2 food acts were passed to protect the consumers from the meat that was causing illness and death. However, in considering Hopkins s Catholic Christian background, this poem is also about beauty and sin and their effects on nature in relation to the story in the book of Genesis about Adam and Eve. Spring is a Petrarchan sonnet split into an octet and sestet and is organized in such a way to allow Hopkins to discuss beauty and how it (through sin) corrupts itself and humanity personified in the season of spring and Adam and Eve, accordingly. The themes of the beauty of spring and the nature of the Garden and humanity are essential in the poet s Christian understanding of sin and the Incarnation and Passion of Jesus Christ. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, in the case of this poem by Hopkins, no problem is introduced in the octet, but is in the sestet. Hopkins signifies this turn by asking a question about the nature of spring s beauty and where it is from, just as juice is the characteristic flavor and essence of fruit in one meaning of the word (OED n.1.a.). Hopkins answers this question by mentioning the Christian view of the earth s sweet being in the beginning, thus referring to the Garden of Eden in Genesis (10 11). As inferred by Hopkins in the first stanza and the Christian tradition which he holds, the Garden was a place of life and flourishing rather than death, and the beginning refers to the creation story involving Adam and Eve. Thus, according to Hopkins, the beauty of spring is identified in the sestet as a strain from the earth s sweet being in the beginning in the Garden of Eden (10 11). After describing where spring s beauty arises, the poet prayerfully addresses Christ and asks him to retrieve this strain of spring s beauty before it cloy[s] / cloud[s]...and [makes] sour with sinning the innocent mind and Mayday in girl and boy (10 13). In addition to this, Frank Pearce (1976) argues that corporations with the connivance of the American state act systematically to control the markets in which they operate. Using the example of the United Fruit Company in Guatemala from 1899 to 1944, we can see this to be accurate as by doing business with dictators, United Fruit grew into el pulpo (the octopus) with a vast enterprise extending far beyond were it extracted bananas (Dosal 2005, p.3).Linking in with this, it is often the case that whilst exploiting a foreign populace the corporation is not acting on its own. • 31. Analysis Of Quentin Tarantino s The World Of... In his interview, Quentin Tarantino describes Inglourious Basterds as a product of his imagination (Gilby 175). If one had watched the film, he can see that the film is based on the real World War II setting as it portrays actual key figures Hitler, Goebbels, and Churchill and events around that time, such as German occupation in Paris and the Holocaust. Even though the film uses actual World War II setting, the story as a whole is a pure fiction. The film is a fictional alternate history of two different, but intertwined plots to assassinate Hitler. In reality, Hitler was not assassinated by the Jews, nor by Americans because he committed suicide. But, in the world of Inglourious Basterds, Tarantino twists the actual history by creating a fictional story of Hitler s assassination, which is effectively achieved by Shoshanna, a French Jewish cinema proprietor, and two Jewish American soldiers from the Basterds, a team of Jewish American soldiers led by Lt. Aldo Raine. What Tarantino wants to imply through this film is that in the world of film, anything can be made possible, even altering history, at the filmmaker s discretion. Tarantino has let his imagination run wild and satisfied the what if questions that not only he but also others might have: What if Jews retaliated back and fight the Nazis? What if Americans have killed Hitler and dismantled Third Reich? Through Inglourious Basterds, Quentin Tarantino recognizes cinema as a medium that has the power to deviate ... The America seen today is not the same as it was 50 years prior, so how can one expect the central dream to be the same? In fact, each person has developed an opinion on what the American dream may mean for him/her. For one, the dream may still be the white picket fence still life from so many years ago, but for another, it may be the accumulation of riches and fame. In Jon Krakauer s Into the Wild, he shows us that Chris McCandless cared not for the quotidian rat race he had grown so accustomed to, but more for the intricacies that the natural world had to offer. I believe that although Chris McCandless may not have made it out of Alaska alive, he still succeeded in discovering what he went there for, and in turn died fulfilling his own American dream. The dictionary defines the American dream as the ideals of freedom, equality, and opportunity traditionally held to be available to every American. They had enough money to provide for their family and then some, a nice home, and a good education for the whole family. Washington said The man who has learned to do something better than anyone else, has learned to do a common thing in an uncommon manner, is the man who has a power and influence that no adverse circumstances can take from him . She was his old English teacher in Hills Village Middle School, and they were originally enemies. But she was the one who helped him get into Airbrook and now she s the one who got him an interview. Part of this book s charm was the irony and humor found in it. 10.) Rafe takes the knowledge of his father s death pretty well. Learning that his father went overseas to fight in a war and didn t really abandon them helped him accept his father s absence from his life, in a way. Finding out about his father gave him a sense of closure no more wondering why he left and what happened to him. Rafe s great uncle played a role in helping Rafe discover the truth about his father. He had told Rafe that he needed to speak with his mother and in truth, this was exactly the right advice. It didn t happen right away, but when it did, he finally learned the truth about his father. 11.) Moving back to Hills Village is a positive move for everyone in Rafe s family. • 44. United States Based Urban Slavery Research Question: How was United States based urban slavery different than United States based rural slavery? In the average American s eyes, there is always assumptions made about slavery and the nature of slavery. Slavery was something that many people relied on for centuries. It is not something that can be easily forgotten and the importance of it cannot be understated. Slavery was simply the bondage of peoples who were then forced into labor on farms or in the city. Believe it or not, slavery did exist outside the standard cotton plantation and tobacco farms in the South. Slavery was all over the southern part of the country whether on a farm or in the ever expanding cities. Slaves could also be found in small farms and towns. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There were several key differences about each of them and each had their own place within the American economy. Urban slavery and rural slavery were different from each other in terms of location, living conditions, and slave agency. Firstly, location was important if talking about rural and urban slavery. Within the rural slavery system, there were different sized farms that a slave might belong to. Smaller farms were the norm in places like Kentucky, and they did not require large amounts of slaves like the cotton plantations. Within those smaller farms like in Kentucky, slaves were not needed in large numbers like the Deep South simply because Kentucky grew different crops like corn and hemp which did not require large numbers of gang laborers. A farmer only needed the amount of slaves necessary for the job to be done which set artificial limits on farmers for the number of slaves a farmer would own. A farmer in Kentucky growing hemp is not going to need 300 slaves to do the job, only 5 or 6, 1 and this smaller sized farm relied on the few slaves it had in order to survive. The, ...size of most Kentucky farms was a contrary variable to slave efficiency and also diminished the need for an expanding slave population. In comparison, the expansion of cotton production in the Lower South created not only changes in the nature of slave employment, but a seemingly insatiable demand for more slaves. 1 Here in looking at the size of plantations, ... • 45. The Importance Of Trauma In Children It pointed out that a child can sense a trauma very easily in another person even if that person is trying to cover it up. The article showed that kids who grow up with caregivers that are suffering from a trauma often feel that trauma for themselves, for example a parent exhibiting depression often times leads to a child feeling depression which is why I believe a person with a caregiver suffering from mental illness is more likely to suffer from that same illness. To me this explains statistics associated with susceptibility of children to have similar issues as their parents. Children also learn their coping mechanisms from their parents which can lead to the same types of problems. Another form of trauma that can very easily effect the ... In his practice, he explained, he largely sees adults and some adolescence but he did let me know that he often sees people that are suffering from a trauma that they have endured during their lives, many of which experienced the trauma during their childhood years. In his transition period between getting his practice up and running and finishing his Master s, Mr. Rubino worked as a prison psychologist which he described as an eye opening experience to why exactly people commit crimes. He described his eye opening experience as a result of dealing with inmates. He initially detested many of the inmates due to the fact that many times that they would interact, they would try to steal things. In his prison experience he described that every single inmate he talked to had some sort of history of personal trauma. This made me think that trauma may be directly linked with criminal behavior. Mr. Rubino went on to tell me that one inmate in particular had the most positive demeanor and seemed to really have him self together compared to the group he was among in prison. • 46. Diphenyltetrazolium Bromide Lab Report 2.10. MTT Assay 3 [4,5 dimethylthiazol 2 yl]2,5 diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) is a yellow water soluble tetrazolium salt. A mitochondrial enzyme in living cells, succinate dehydrogenase, cleaves the tetrazolium ring, converting the MTT to an insoluble purple formazan. Therefore, the amount of formazan produced is directly proportional to the number of viable cells. After 48 h of incubation, 15 L of MTT (5 mg/mL) in phosphate buffered saline (PBS) was added to each well and incubated at 37˚C for 4 h. The medium with MTT was then flicked off and the formed formazan crystals were solubilized in 100 l of DMSO and then measured the absorbance at 570 nm using micro plate reader. The mattress is a product that can be used by people of any age or gender or religious preference, etc. However the target audience to purchase will be anyone over the age of 18 as they are more likely to have the financial ability to make such a purchase. It would also be directed at the middle class and higher as this will not be a bottom of the line mattress. • 48. The Great Purge Of The Cold War Joseph Stalin s determination greatly affected his leadership and led to the beginnings of the Cold War. His determination allowed him to rise to power and destroy all opposition against his reign. The Great Purge, one of the greatest terrors in history, was also done due to his determination to stay in power. This same determination led to, as well as shaped, a large quantity of the events of World War 2. His leadership was similar to the leadership of Adolf Hitler, yet because of his determination, was quite different, and quite possibly more effective. In the end his determination for power led to the events of the Cold War. This determination greatly affected Stalin s rise to power, and allowed him to completely decimate all opposition to his leadership. Originally, Stalin was a powerless citizen of the USSR, yet he managed to quickly rise to the top of the political field. He began his role in politics by joining the Bolsheviks in 1903. Due to his thirst for power he steadily rose through the ranks of the party and was soon the General Secretary. The Bolshevik insurrection to Russian leadership was successful and placed Stalin in a position of great power. He then used his power to isolate members of the party in an attempt to take away their power and popularity. Determined to gain absolute dominance over the other members, he caused the dismissal, and possibly the deaths, of several of his political opponents. This left him in total rule over the Communist party, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
