The Effect Of Temperature On The Rate Of Reaction Of...
An Investigation of the Effects of Temperature on the Rates of Reaction of Enzyme Activity
Enzymes are important protein macromolecules that act as biological catalysts that catalyse
biochemical reactions and speed up reaction rates inside the living systems of plant and animal cells.
The practical studies the break down reaction rate of enzymes where the substrate molecule binds and
interacts with the complementary enzyme at the active site. For the break down process, activation
energy located in the reserves of molecules is needed. In this case an initial input of energy is needed
for the reaction to start, however, when accompanied by an enzyme, little activation energy is needed
for a higher reaction to occur. Enzymes lower activation energy by applying pressure to the weak
hydrogen bonds. When the bonds break or weaken through the alteration of orientation in the shape of
the substrate, this leads to the enzyme reaction; the molecule breaks down and the substrate is split
into its two original products.
The free energy released in this investigation is oxygen gas. This substance is released when the
decomposition of the reactive chemical bi product Hydrogen Peroxide (H2O2)(which is the bi product
of metabolism), needs to be broken down and converted into water and oxygen in order to avoid the
unwanted accumulation of toxicity in cells.
Equation of chemical reaction by catalase:
Temperature plays a significant role in the acceleration of reaction rates, by heating

Jenny Holzer Chapter 3
This is something that everyone does when looking at any piece of artwork, but Sherman made this
key in her collection, allowing the viewer to analyse the image and come to their own conclusion on
the narrative. It gives the viewer freedom to find their own connection with the images, only knowing
that they were about feminist identity. All of Sherman s Untitled Film Stills have a haunting emotion
to them as if the subject is fighting off their own demons, especially in Untitled Film Still #3 (figure
8). The gaze opens the mind up to all narratives and almost gives the viewer a piece of the emotion
from the persona to analyse and give back. This is one of the key points to Sherman s work, the
connection between the persona and the viewer, how they interrupt the narrative and emotion from the
images. Chapter three Jenny Holzer. I want people to concentrate on the content. I want my art to be a
utility to as many people as possible . Jenny Holzer is a well known neo conceptualist feminist artist

an artist and making the decision to use text and public areas as a medium base, advertising and

view for society. Calling Holzer a product of this is overrated. Holzer was influenced by her
surroundings and analysed the way advertising spread through all of life. Through her research, Holzer
realised how using the same medium as advertising could get her art and views into the world and into
everyday life, meaning that the work developed an importance in society, clearing the politic fog from

The Social Cognitive Theory Of A Dynamic And Reciprocal...
OVERVIEW:
The social cognitive theory in essence is the theory that proposes behavior is a result of personal,
behavioral, and environmental factors that influence each other in a dynamic and reciprocal fashion.
Environments shape behaviors, but individuals have the power to influence the environment as well as
their own behaviors through self reflection and self regulatory process.
Personal factors involve people s thoughts and beliefs about the desired outcomes, their ability to
perform the behavior or self efficacy and ability to take charge. They may also have personal barriers
in the way. In order to overcome these personal factors they will need goal setting, relapse prevention
and reinforcement of positive outcomes. Behavioral ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The popularity of this program stems from the focus on behaviors, which are impacted by several
factors. Social cognitive theory states, behavior is the result of personal, behavioral, and
environmental factors that influence each other in dynamic and reciprocal fashion (Contento, 2011).
People s thoughts and feelings, knowledge and skills, and physical and social environment, all impact
the actions, behaviors and choices related towards health and nutrition. Interventions that used social
cognitive theory in the field of nutrition include Challenge!, EatFit, Choice, Control, and Change and
Planet Health. These programs encompass the main principles and strengths of social cognitive theory
and yielded successful results.
INTERVENTIONS:
Challenge! is an example of an effective program that utilized social cognitive theory. Its goal was to
promote health and prevent obesity in African American youths, between the ages of 11 16. The
program recruited adolescents from low income, urban areas and implemented both home and
community based interventions for a total of twelve sessions (Black et al., 2010). One important
construct of social cognitive theory is observational learning, which Challenge! incorporated by
enlisting African American mentors who attended college. These mentors were crucial because
teenagers learn from observing the food related behaviors of

Why Is Scale Important In Ecology
Harlee Mariah Marsh Advanced Ecology BIOL 351 Midterm Exam 1. Why is scale important in
ecology? Scale is important in ecology because it is one of the most varying factors when it comes to
conducting studies. When we look at scale it is not a definitive term but rather an adjusting term
dependent on the experiment conducted. Understanding that there are different meanings of scale and
how they interact is fundamental. The appropriate definition must be applied in order to properly
conduct an experiment. The struggle throughout the study of ecology has been defining the overall
optimal scale. Is this really possible? This problem occurs because of the multiple scales on which
ecological studies take place. In the fundamentals of ecology, there are several basic scales that
separate the entire field which include but are not limited to global, ecosystem, community,
population, and organismal ecology. Within each of these fields there are environmental factors that
affect an individual scale. Furthermore, once a single sub sect changes in ecology it affects its
predecessor and successor. Due to these constant changes in the environment as a whole, ... Show

As literature has discovered through time there is no general scale applicable to all experiments. There
is only an optimal scale on an individual basis of the experiment. The term scale has multiple
definitions and historically there are 15 definitions of scale, two stemming from different root
meanings (Schneider 2001). If this is the case, it is important to define what scale is being used in an
experiment. An example of scale is a patch environment. It is meant to be a sample of the total
environment, and within that sample it accounts for trends that would be found in the entire
environment. Even though this seems ideal for most experiments, there are variables that need to be
addressed in a scale such as a patch (MacArthur

Texas Government
Texas is the second most populous state as well as the second largest state in the United States of
America (Brown, Langenegger, Garcia, Lewis, Biles, 2014). With a huge number of people currently
calling Texas their home, it would make sense to draw the conclusion that the Texas government must
make this state a great place to live by serving its citizens to the best of its abilities. However, it is best
not to make assumptions and in order to ascertain whether the local government actually fulfills this
role we must look at multiple aspects of the government. To assess how well the government of Texas
meets the needs of its citizens we first must look at the document that delegates power to the state
government and outlines the rules ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is an area where public opinion and public policy match in that they both heavily favor regressive
taxation (Brown et al., 2014). Tausanovitch and Warshaw (2013) have developed a means of
understanding political preference in comparison with public opinion and public policy to determine
whether a government is best serving the desires of its people. This type of tool would be very useful
for the state of Texas to use to determine whether the government is serving the desires of its
constituents. But, just because public opinion and public policy line up doesn t mean that the interests
of citizens are best served because some groups may still be left out and those groups may have more
needs than others. Texas current operational stance of pay as you go makes for a very tight budget
where the government cannot always afford to spend money on things the citizens of Texas may need.
For instance, Texas operates its roads with the same pay as you go mentality by opting for toll roads
(Brown et al., 2014). Toll roads receive some government funding through state issued bonds and the
collection of tolls after completion. This system is hardly fair for the citizens who do not use the toll
roads but still must subsidize them through taxpayer dollars when the toll revenue does not meet the
projected earnings. There are also many more citizens in Texas who live below the poverty line,
18.4% for Texas in comparison to 15.1% for the entire United States (Brown et al., 2014). With a
larger proportion of citizens in poverty the burden to the state becomes greater, especially when
funding remains low (Insert citation). Texas is just hurting its citizens by not being able to provide as
much support and assistance to them as possible. Texas was given the opportunity, along with every
other state in the union, to expand its offering of Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act. A sample of
public opinion was obtained

Gene Based Evolutionary Theories
This week we learned about and studied gene based evolutionary theories that are associated with
criminal and antisocial behavior. Among the theories was the r/K theory. The r/K theory is used in
evolutionary biology and argues that organisms follow a continuum when reproducing (Smith, 2016,
p. 17). This theory consists of r and K selection which are basically opposite of one another. When
environmental opportunities allow, organisms near the r end reproduce rapidly and productively.
However when doing so, not much time is invested in their offspring (Cullen, Agnew, Wilcox, 2014,
p. 71). All of the following are components of r selection: mating is emphasized, several children are
reproduced, early reproduction occurs, and rapid and productive

The Cult Of True Womanhood Summary
In The Cult of True Womanhood by: Barbara Walters, she explains how women of the reform era were
expected to submit totally to their husbands and societal pressures to gain a high level of respect while
women that fell short of nearly unattainable standards were publicly ostracized. During this period in
America women were finally being recognized as important members of society, and on a more
personal level men were recognizing that women had emotional qualities that also held value. Women
were seen as more naturally pure and moral in this era. On top of moral obligations the mother of a
family had many worldly responsibilities. Women were expected to serve as nurse to the family, a
sexual and moral companion to the husband, and a spiritual figure within the community. On top of
their worldly duties women were also expected to be dainty, but not high maintenance, and
submissive, but not mindless. The reading of books was encouraged for maintaining a sharp mind, but
not books that were highly educated either, so the Bible became a constant source of knowledge and
moral guidance. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From birth until marriage women were taught to retain their virginity because a woman s physical
form was all she truly owned. After a women had given this worldly possession away they had no
leverage and was expected to care of children and maintain the household. Loss of virginity before
marriage or a lack of affection for her children were grave accusations on a woman s moral character.
A woman that enjoyed sex before marriage was seen as disgraced in the eyes of God and the
community. Sensationalized accounts of disgraced women appeared in magazines and stories to
remind future mothers of the importance of keeping their gift. Women had to personify purity and
patience, while functioning as the head of the house, all while being completely overruled by the
wishes of their

Texas Cottage Food Law Case Study
Before 2011, it was illegal to sell food that was made in a person s home. But in 2011, FARFA (Farm
and Ranch Freedom Alliance) came together and began lobbying to make the first Texas Cottage
Foods Law. People all around Texas came together to support FARFA, ensuring a win for the bill. This
law allowed people to sell specific homemade foods, but the amount of food given could not exceed
$50,00 (farm and ranch freedom). During the Texas Legislative session of 2013, the Texas Cottage
Foods Law (Bill: HB 970) was again introduced into the House. FARFA wanted to increase the
amount of foods a person could sell, as well as make more locations for the items to be sold. The
requirements that had to take place before selling an item are: sell only to people, have a food handler

Incorporating Personal Responsibility in the College...
PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY ESSAY
Success in college requires one to identify key aspects of personal responsibility, understand the
relationship between personal responsibility and college success, and establish a specific plan to
follow that will ensure he or she incorporates the various elements of personal responsibility in every
facet of his or her college experience.
The notion of personal responsibility has been embedded in our culture and as we enter into adulthood
we must learn to become personally, academically, financially, socially and mentally responsible.
There are times when you may feel you are responsible and may not need or want the help of others in
your life. However, life is full of challenges and surprises and it is easy to shift the blame to others if
things don t go your way. You must learn to take responsibility by accepting and acknowledging the
choices you make in your live.
You are where you are in life today because of the choice you made. You made decisions that either
benefitted or hindered you. How you accept and acknowledges your personal responsibility depends
on how you handle the outcomes of your decisions. I look at personal responsibility as you accepting
responsibility for your actions, accepting the consequences that come from those actions and
understanding that these actions impact the world around you.
Life itself is already full of challenges and once you learn to accept the decisions you made and not
blaming others for your actions,

Budget Guidelines
Budget Overview
The budget is a financial plan for the university that quantifies the resource allocation plan for the next
three fiscal years. The budget process begins in early fall of each year to develop the budget for the
following fiscal year as well as projected budgets for the next 2 years. Budgeting at the unit level is a
decentralized process. Each unit is responsible for building its own budget. The allocation letter, in
addition to various other data collected at the unit level, is essential to completing this process. Central
administration distributes the allocation letter, which includes the assumptions and the initial
allocation amount. All units budgets are reviewed and compiled by the Budget and Financial Planning

Coordinate all tuition transfers with the organization that is forecasting the other side of the entry. This
will ensure that amounts will agree and balance across the university. When budgeting semester
tuition it should coincide with quarterly accounting deferrals. IC graduate tuition revenue from central
will be booked quarterly to the college and is based on the percentage of the semester completed.
Undergraduate aid should be budgeted to object code 75100 and graduate aid should be budgeted to
object code 75102.
Designated Operating
Designated funding sources include operating reserves, cost sharing, faculty discretionary funds,
internally funded projects, faculty development grants, SURG, affiliate programs, Technology

Analysis:
Drug release data for curcumin was fitted into 5 mathematical models and studied to determine the
best mathematical model. The model chosen were:
i. Zero Order Kinetics
The zero order kinetics depends upon the initial concentration of the drug loaded on the nanoparticles
and refers to constant release of drug5,6. Zero order kinetics is represented as:
Qt=Qo+k*t
Qt = amount of drug dissolved in time t, Qo=initial amount of drug, k=zero order kinetics constant
ii. First Order Kinetics
The release of the drug which followed first order kinetics can be expressed by the equation7: log C =
log C0 Kt / 2.303
Co is the initial concentration of drug, k is the first order rate constant, and t is the time
iii. Hixon Crowell Release Kinetics
Hixson and Crowell derived the equation: Q01/3 Qt1/3 = κ*t where Q0 is the initial amount of drug,
Qt is the remaining amount of drug at time t and κ (kappa) constant incorporates surface volume
relation. The equation describes the release from systems where there is a change in surface area and
diameter of particles or tablets9.
iv. Higuchi Release Kinetics
Higuchi drug release kinetics model was proposed Higuchi in 1961 based on a matrix system8. The
matrix model is based on initial drug concentration in the, instantaneous drug

The relationship and interaction between XML and databases
ECET610 UMUC
Abstract
This paper will explore the relationship between XML and databases and the way that they can be
leveraged to provide data exchange on the internet. As XML gains popularity as the format for
exchanging information via the internet and has become the language of choice for use in database
development for Internet use.Introduction
XML is a universal data standard and thereby does not need to be translated for use in different
database systems. This is very important with large corporate data systems. In companies that have
web presence this is a vital concern where some of the data base systems are handled by external
companies that use an entirely ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This presents a scalability problem in that when the system contains a few thousand documents the
performance tends to degrade and become a management issue. Synchronization is also a problem
between the non database code and the database. If changes are made to the database structure the
XML pointers need to be updated as well and the system is not very portable.
The XML mapping style of data storage is used by web sites that map user inputs into XML schema
that manages the storage and retrieval of the data as shown in the example Figure 1. This is an
effective method when the existing data is in XML format.
Using XML to simplify processes
The flexibility of XML has made it the standard for the formatting and sharing of data via the web.
XML data is easily transferable across machines and applications and is not constrained by the
operating system of the host machine. This ease of translation enables XML to be transformed into
non XML formats for use with databases and their associated applications.
An XML database is a database that stores the data fields in XML format. This allows for cross
platform transferability and web page presentation. A web application is typically done in three layers

I recall a warm summer afternoon when I had just arrived home from college to find the house wide
open and eerily dormant. As I entered, my eyes suddenly caught hold of a bright yellow note on the
counter written by my father. Barkha, call my cell phone. My mother, who had gone to do laundry at a

grabbed onto the knife, her hands chafed against the sharp edges. I recollect standing anxiously in a
side room of the ER when a young physician opened the door, and in a clear, deliberate, yet
empathetic manner, informed us that my mother s skin and the nerves of her hand had been torn and

Brachial Plexus Injury
The brachial Plexus is the network of nerves that sends signals from the spine to the shoulder, arm,

Goals Of The Team And The Goal Of A Team
Goals of a team: A team is a group of people who come together to achieve a goal or complete a
particular task. Most teams share the same vision, mission, goals, values and trust. The team members
must first understand the vision of the company and the team goals must be aligned with the
organisational goals. The team members share a common purpose and are committed to the attainment
of those goals. The team members work together to produce an outcome that represents their joint
contributions and they share the responsibility for such outcomes. Once the goals are set by the
organisation the teams are given the freedom and flexibility to do the job without the interference of
the management. These teams are autonomous and self managed. ... Show more content on

The talented employees in the organisation must be retained and developed as a high performing

Essay about Willie Nelson s Music Makes Me Happy
Going Busking is not as easy as it looks. You have to have a talent such as being a mime, singing,

On the Road Again by Willie Nelson. Willie Nelson changed music for some people and I will be
talking about music changing people s lives. Willie Hugh Nelson is a country music singer, song
writer, and guitar player, he was an author, poet, and activist. The album Shotgun Willie Made him a
very famous country artist. Willie was born in the great depression and he wrote his first song when he

There are a lot of times in country music that there is a bass, guitar, singer, piano, and drums. That is
what our band is. The bass and the drums are for keeping the beat and sounding good. The piano and
the guitar are usually leading and if one is then the other is the background. And of course the singer is
the lead singer. Especially in country music, sometimes there are more than one singer and there is a
background singer.
Busking is like showbiz that is the same as an entry level job. If you perform well enough someone
could discover you and you could join the ranks of famous performers. First you have to find a good
place where people walk by or drive, then you can tell people about it and that will get some to come,
and you have to pick a good time to go. If you go when everyone is in school and at work you won t

you. I learned piano, learned how to play On the Road Again . I had some trouble singing and playing
piano but it all worked out I learned that if you want to get better you need to practice and push

Gender Relations During The Jacobean Period
Deconstructing Gender Relations Gender in the Jacobean Period was approached differently than
gender in the 18th century. One can use the Jacobean period play Measure for Measure by William
Shakespeare and the 18th century play The Beaux Stratagem by George Farquhar to examine gender
relations during the two periods. The plays demonstrate how women were represented in society and
what societal expectations were at the time. The way women navigated their own sexuality, finances,
and power relation s improved noticeably from the Jacobean Period to the 18th century. During the
Jacobean Period women were not allowed to preform in theatres; all of the players were men and boys
(Spear 13). Because of the violent nature of theatres women didn t attend plays as Groundlings and
few could afford to sit above in the covered seats above. The theatre was a place for corruption and
immorality and women were looked down upon during the Jacobean Period for attending
performances in playhouses around London. The theatre was a harsh place where audience members
were tightly packed in. They would hiss, shout, and throw rotten vegetables at actors they disliked or
applaud and clap for those they approved of (Spear 14). The play Measure for Measure shows the
powerlessness of women during the Jacobean Period. The female characters in the play are helpless in
determining their fates. The central female character in Measure for Measure, Isabella, has been both
idealized as an ideal woman

Origins of the First World War
The First World War was an international conflict which erupted in July 1914 involving various
nations across the world. Many historians and those who have studied the Great War tend to give
varied opinions as to what initially sparked the outbreak. However, although these opinions between
researchers differ, they do all tend to revolve around the hostility between the great powers of Europe,
the violent assassination of the Austro Hungarian Archduke Franz Ferdinand, and the controversial
pieces of German foreign policy known as Weltpolitik and Mitteleuropa, which according to political
theorist Hans Debruck (1899), would not only transform Germany into a nation of great economic and
military power, but also into a nation that has been ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This theory appeared to be very inspirational for Germany as they were unfortunately surrounded by
other dominant powers. With Social Darwinism in mind, the new German king Wilhelm II sparked
serious concern amongst the European powers by establishing two pieces of foreign policy known as
Weltpolitik and Mitteleuropa. Weltpolitik, according to Debruck (1899), was a piece of legislation that
was established to help the Germans pursue colonial and naval power in the grand manner through
either peace or war. The other policy, Mitteleuropa, also caused huge political unrest amongst the great
powers as it was viewed as a plan for Europe to be completely dominated by German empires. So
from the establishment of these two pieces of legislation, it quickly became unequivocal that Germany
was becoming a nation of potential threat. Additionally, the Germans were also accused by the British
media of trying to cause a civil war in Ireland by providing both loyalist and nationalist groups with
weapons; another example of Germanys uprising power and aggression (Padfield, 2005). So with
Germany becoming a particularly aggressive nation, causing the other nations such as Britain to
become somewhat solicitous, how were the other great powers such as Russia and Austria developing?
Throughout the expansion of Germany, Russia and Austria were

The Importance Of Character Development In Anthem
Character development is essential in a character driven literature, where the plot focuses not on the
events themselves, but actually on the characters motivations throughout their story. This literary
device is utilized step by step in order to focus and clarify the crucial aspects about the character in a
story. The stories that move us most, the ones that will be trapped inside our minds years later, are
those inhabited by characters the reader can connect with on a deep emotional level. No one character
can grasp in a story what they need to learn in order to give in or overcome their own limitations and
flaws without first undergoing rigorous life experiences. The bumpy path of individual growth and
development a certain character undergoes ultimately stares at a crossroad. Imperfections, traits and
vices make a character more genuine and interesting, making them grow as a person. Equality 7 2521
s development as a character throughout Anthem can be seen as a progressive move towards the
distinctive way of thinking he discovers and presents in the final chapters of the novel. It s an egoistic
way of thinking, because it asserts that the only goal of any individual human being should be to
pursue his own happiness, and not to subordinate his happiness to the service of others. Equality 7
2521 begins Anthem with a declaration of his sins, indicating the degree to which his society has
influenced the development of his thoughts. There is quite a shift from the way

That Summer Book Report
Diving into Change The fictional novel entitled That Summer was written by author, Sarah Dessen. It
was published in 1996 as her first book to be sold. Dessen states, It was actually the third one I wrote,
after a terrible book I did in college and one that was marginally better the year after. I never intended
That Summer to be a YA (young adult) book while I was writing it (Sarah Dessen, n. d.). She then
goes on to state how her publisher believed it would be a good book for teenagers, so, she gave it a
shot, and allowed it to be published. According to UNCTV, Sarah Dessen grew up in Chapel Hill,
North Carolina and attended UNC Chapel Hill, graduating with the highest honors in Creative
Writing. She is the author of several novels and has a motion picture based on her first two books,
entitled How to Deal. Her 11th novel, The Moon and More, was published in June 2013. She currently
lives in North Carolina (UNCTV, 2006). That Summer was inspired by Dessen s interest in writing
about what she describes as the change in youth s personality as they go through some sort of tragedy
or loss (Sarah Dessen, n. d.). Consequently, in That Summer, protagonist, Haven McPhail, faces a
summer full of rapid changes, all the while, learning about the reality of the past. For ... Show more

together, regardless of her parents divorce. Everyone can reach back to one summer and lay a finger to
it, finding the exact point when everything changes. That summer was mine (That Summer, p.

My Learning Goal At The Margaret Sloss Women s Center
My learning goal at the Margaret Sloss Women s Center was to develop organizational skills for
planning programs in a feminist workspace. The Margaret Sloss Women s Center is a valuable
resource on campus, not only for women, but also for all students at Iowa State University. Having
volunteered at the Sloss house since my freshman year, I wanted to learn more about the background
work behind all the great events they organize. This internship gave me a great opportunity to develop
organizational skills to coordinate various programs. In this essay I will demonstrate the nature of my
participation during the course of this semester at the Margaret Sloss Women s Center.
I chalked out a plan for my internship with Som, the interim director of the Margaret Sloss Women s
Center. Every week I had office hours, staff meetings, and one on one meeting with Som. I took up a
lead on existing programs and events like Who Needs Feminism? , Equal Pay Day, volunteer training,
and presentations. I helped out with events such as The Vagina Monologues, Take back the Night,
Gender Equity awards, The Gender Monologues. Additionally, I created my own program in the honor
of the International Women s Day.
Who Needs Feminism? is an international movement trying to encourage individuals to find their
reason for needing feminism and break common misconceptions surrounding the term feminism.
Through this project we hope to foster critical conversation about feminism and intersectionality. I

Theme Of I Am And Ode To Autumn By John Clare
The poem I have chosen to discuss are, John Clare s I am and Ode to Autumn. by John Keats. Both of
these poems deal with the sublime and express the concern of self consciousness that poetry addressed
during the romantic period. John Clare s I am is a refection upon ones last minutes of breathing life, or
rather a pondering of death. The poem is cleverly constructed through the structured use of complex
poetic techniques in the phonics and sense appealing aspects of the poem. Clare writes to manipulate
the reader, not to show them his grief and despair from his point of view, but instead, a point of view
of which he would like them to see from. I chose this poem because the poem itself, almost becomes
self aware, as though the experiences ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Keats indulges himself in his personified version of autumn. This poem also deals with the theme of
death and its inevitability. This was also a common trait of Keats, as for him, these petite and gradual
notions of death occurred daily and he recorded them and marvelled their lack of severity. The images
that Keats expresses of the cease of your loved ones hold, the engravings on a historical samovar, and
the harvesting in August are of course symbols of death, but are also actually deathly occurrences if
we really think about it. This introduces the underlying threat under al the fruitful beauty of this

Persuasive Essay On Draft Busts
Xavier Henry, Daniel Orton, Byron Mullens, Tyrus Thomas, Javaris Crittenton, Greg Oden. What s in
common for all of these players? They re all one and done nba draft busts. All are now either in the d
league or free agency (not signed to a team, no salary). I believe that being a one and done athlete is
detrimental to the athlete s education, and future.
The one and done rule forces players to have at least one year in college, than being able to apply for
the draft. This rule was created in 2006 in order for teams to have less high school busts (example:
Kwame Brown. Was drafted number one by the washington wizards, and ended his career averaging
only 6.6 points per game, and 5.5 rebounds), and get more scouting reports per player. ... Show more

They will make enough money from just playing. And you don t really need a 4.0 GPA if you re going
to play basketball. But many things can go wrong. In Bobby Hurley s case, he was drafted in the first
round, but a couple of weeks later he got in a severe car crash that led him to having collapsed lungs,
and fractured bones, a torn tendon, and broken ribs (according to the Associated Press). And in Jay
Williams case he got in a motorcycle accident and according to a New York Times profile, the bike
crash left Williams with a total knee dislocation, torn ligaments, a dislocated pelvis, a torn nerve, a
severed artery, and more. Both these players had bright futures but were stopped by injuries. They
both played in the d league later, which is an incredible success, but they only got about $40 a game,
and they had to go get average jobs. So if you re drafted, it s not an automatic income, you could be
laid off or released if you can t continue to play at the pro level.
The one and done rule may be better than allowing high schoolers to go into the nba draft, but it is still
full of holes and mistakes. If people changed the rule, to having to play two years of college basketball
(or more). It could benefit many people; the draftees, and the franchises. It could allow athletes to
grow, and improve in the game of basketball. As well as allow the scouts to get better information on
the players,

The For The Safe Harbour Agreement Essay
Essential Question

base pushed to act on safe harbour ruling and then discuss pros and cons of the safe harbour
agreement.
Introducing Safe Harbour Agreement
On October 1998, data protection came into effect by the directors of European Commission. It
prohibits transferring of personal data from European countries to non European countries if they do
not meet the European standards.
The United States taken a different approach to protect the citizens data. Both European Union and

safe harbour framework to streamline the difference [1].
Safe Harbour Agreement is an agreement came into existence on 26 July 2000 between United States
and European Union government to protect the EU citizens data if the data is transferred to US by the
American companies. It is designed to prevent accidental information disclosure or loss. Safe harbour

Advantages Of Computer Assisted Language Learning
People had been studying how to use a computer on the educational side for many years. Previous
English learners learnt English through a regular English class, an interesting and a fantastic English
movie, an English newspaper, and etc. However, they were a lack of flexibility, and most of the
learners memorized English vocabulary and grammar rules mechanically(Yang Chen, 2007, p.
861).With the development of technology, at the end of 20th century, computer assisted language
learning(CALL) was widely used in many countries such as America and Japan because it could
provide a language environment for learners talking with native people in order to improve their
language skills, and students also can find many learning materials online. Besides, CALL is not only
used by students but also teachers, teachers can use the computer to prepare teaching programme and
let teaching at the classroom more vividly and flexibly. Thus, CALL seems to gradually replace ...

For the students, they should have a good attitude for learning. Even though they fear to ask question
and fear to make mistakes in the classroom, they can use a computer to find their confusion. Besides,
researcher suggests that students should use a good and reliable website or teachers suggestion s
websites. On the other hand, for teachers, they should be trained because they reduce the time of doing
powerpoint, and improve the quality of learning. Besides, they should pay attention to interact with
their students, not all of teaching is around a computer. All in all, even computer assisted language
learning still has some problems, the advantages outweigh the disadvantages, but a computer is only

How Does Darcy Change In Pride And Prejudice
Pride is a characteristic that will always cause the largest distance between two people. Darcy s
personality changes throughout the course of the novel from being extremely arrogant to becoming
humble. During the course of Jane Austen s Pride and Prejudice, the character of Mr. Darcy goes on a
journey to find himself. Austen emphasizes the importance of humility through Darcy who must face
challenges of overcoming his pride in order to reach the heart of the woman he loves.
Mr. Darcy is an awfully arrogant man who has many strained relationships with those around him due
to his egocentric actions. When Darcy is first introduced to the readers at the Meryton Ball, [he]

Despite him going through a dynamic character change throughout the course of novel, Darcy s
prideful personality can still be seen even after he has become a loveable person. In one of the
conversations between Darcy and Elizabeth, he tells her, ...I admire and love you. Elizabeth describes
his actions as, ...his sense of inferiority of its being a degradation of the family obstacles. Darcy
proclaims his love for Elizabeth and does not allow her to forget her inferior ranking within society.
He seems to have a personal conflict within himself, he does not want to love her but he is unable to
not love her. Elizabeth does not take this proposal too seriously because she believes she could never
love a man that does not care for her family. She can see how his vanity is not allowing him to be kind
towards the woman he claims to love. Elizabeth describes Darcy in this situation as, ...he was
listening...wholly unmoved with remorse. Elizabeth knew he was listening but could not see an ounce
of regret or forgiveness for his hurtful actions towards both her sister Jane and his friend Bingley.
Darcy s behavior demonstrates to Elizabeth that he is a man that she could not and shall not love
because he is willfully blinded by his pride. Darcy cannot move beyond his pride and vanity to see the
pain he has caused and how this is stopping Elizabeth from falling in love with him. He clearly told
her about how he meddled between Jane and Bingley by saying, I have no wishes of denying that I did
everything in my power to separate my friend from your sister, or that I rejoice in my success, he does
admit he acted wrong but there is no asking for forgiveness and that shows Elizabeth the kind of man
he is. Elizabeth comes to the realization that she does not want to spend her life with the man that hurt
her family and jeopardized her sister s chance at happiness. Darcy is

  • 2. The Effect Of Temperature On The Rate Of Reaction Of... An Investigation of the Effects of Temperature on the Rates of Reaction of Enzyme Activity Enzymes are important protein macromolecules that act as biological catalysts that catalyse biochemical reactions and speed up reaction rates inside the living systems of plant and animal cells. The practical studies the break down reaction rate of enzymes where the substrate molecule binds and interacts with the complementary enzyme at the active site. For the break down process, activation energy located in the reserves of molecules is needed. In this case an initial input of energy is needed for the reaction to start, however, when accompanied by an enzyme, little activation energy is needed for a higher reaction to occur. Enzymes lower activation energy by applying pressure to the weak hydrogen bonds. When the bonds break or weaken through the alteration of orientation in the shape of the substrate, this leads to the enzyme reaction; the molecule breaks down and the substrate is split into its two original products. The free energy released in this investigation is oxygen gas. This substance is released when the decomposition of the reactive chemical bi product Hydrogen Peroxide (H2O2)(which is the bi product of metabolism), needs to be broken down and converted into water and oxygen in order to avoid the unwanted accumulation of toxicity in cells. Equation of chemical reaction by catalase: Temperature plays a significant role in the acceleration of reaction rates, by heating ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Jenny Holzer Chapter 3 This is something that everyone does when looking at any piece of artwork, but Sherman made this key in her collection, allowing the viewer to analyse the image and come to their own conclusion on the narrative. It gives the viewer freedom to find their own connection with the images, only knowing that they were about feminist identity. All of Sherman s Untitled Film Stills have a haunting emotion to them as if the subject is fighting off their own demons, especially in Untitled Film Still #3 (figure 8). The gaze opens the mind up to all narratives and almost gives the viewer a piece of the emotion from the persona to analyse and give back. This is one of the key points to Sherman s work, the connection between the persona and the viewer, how they interrupt the narrative and emotion from the images. Chapter three Jenny Holzer. I want people to concentrate on the content. I want my art to be a utility to as many people as possible . Around the time that Holzer was developing as an artist and making the decision to use text and public areas as a medium base, advertising and television was growing at an alarming rate, taking over society, with advertising being a reoccurring view for society. Calling Holzer a product of this is overrated. Holzer was influenced by her surroundings and analysed the way advertising spread through all of life. Through her research, Holzer realised how using the same medium as advertising could get her art and views into the world and into everyday life, meaning that the work developed an importance in society, clearing the politic fog from viewer s knowledge and stating truths about taboos and issues of the ... • 4. The Social Cognitive Theory Of A Dynamic And Reciprocal... OVERVIEW: The social cognitive theory in essence is the theory that proposes behavior is a result of personal, behavioral, and environmental factors that influence each other in a dynamic and reciprocal fashion. Environments shape behaviors, but individuals have the power to influence the environment as well as their own behaviors through self reflection and self regulatory process. Personal factors involve people s thoughts and beliefs about the desired outcomes, their ability to perform the behavior or self efficacy and ability to take charge. They may also have personal barriers in the way. In order to overcome these personal factors they will need goal setting, relapse prevention and reinforcement of positive outcomes. Behavioral ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The popularity of this program stems from the focus on behaviors, which are impacted by several factors. Social cognitive theory states, behavior is the result of personal, behavioral, and environmental factors that influence each other in dynamic and reciprocal fashion (Contento, 2011). People s thoughts and feelings, knowledge and skills, and physical and social environment, all impact the actions, behaviors and choices related towards health and nutrition. Interventions that used social cognitive theory in the field of nutrition include Challenge!, EatFit, Choice, Control, and Change and Planet Health. These programs encompass the main principles and strengths of social cognitive theory and yielded successful results. INTERVENTIONS: Challenge! is an example of an effective program that utilized social cognitive theory. Its goal was to promote health and prevent obesity in African American youths, between the ages of 11 16. The program recruited adolescents from low income, urban areas and implemented both home and community based interventions for a total of twelve sessions (Black et al., 2010). One important construct of social cognitive theory is observational learning, which Challenge! incorporated by enlisting African American mentors who attended college. These mentors were crucial because teenagers learn from observing the food related behaviors of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Why Is Scale Important In Ecology Harlee Mariah Marsh Advanced Ecology BIOL 351 Midterm Exam 1. Why is scale important in ecology? Scale is important in ecology because it is one of the most varying factors when it comes to conducting studies. When we look at scale it is not a definitive term but rather an adjusting term dependent on the experiment conducted. Understanding that there are different meanings of scale and how they interact is fundamental. The appropriate definition must be applied in order to properly conduct an experiment. The struggle throughout the study of ecology has been defining the overall optimal scale. Is this really possible? This problem occurs because of the multiple scales on which ecological studies take place. In the fundamentals of ecology, there are several basic scales that separate the entire field which include but are not limited to global, ecosystem, community, population, and organismal ecology. Within each of these fields there are environmental factors that affect an individual scale. Furthermore, once a single sub sect changes in ecology it affects its predecessor and successor. Due to these constant changes in the environment as a whole, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As literature has discovered through time there is no general scale applicable to all experiments. There is only an optimal scale on an individual basis of the experiment. The term scale has multiple definitions and historically there are 15 definitions of scale, two stemming from different root meanings (Schneider 2001). If this is the case, it is important to define what scale is being used in an experiment. An example of scale is a patch environment. It is meant to be a sample of the total environment, and within that sample it accounts for trends that would be found in the entire environment. Even though this seems ideal for most experiments, there are variables that need to be addressed in a scale such as a patch (MacArthur ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Texas Government Texas is the second most populous state as well as the second largest state in the United States of America (Brown, Langenegger, Garcia, Lewis, Biles, 2014). With a huge number of people currently calling Texas their home, it would make sense to draw the conclusion that the Texas government must make this state a great place to live by serving its citizens to the best of its abilities. However, it is best not to make assumptions and in order to ascertain whether the local government actually fulfills this role we must look at multiple aspects of the government. To assess how well the government of Texas meets the needs of its citizens we first must look at the document that delegates power to the state government and outlines the rules ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is an area where public opinion and public policy match in that they both heavily favor regressive taxation (Brown et al., 2014). Tausanovitch and Warshaw (2013) have developed a means of understanding political preference in comparison with public opinion and public policy to determine whether a government is best serving the desires of its people. This type of tool would be very useful for the state of Texas to use to determine whether the government is serving the desires of its constituents. But, just because public opinion and public policy line up doesn t mean that the interests of citizens are best served because some groups may still be left out and those groups may have more needs than others. Texas current operational stance of pay as you go makes for a very tight budget where the government cannot always afford to spend money on things the citizens of Texas may need. For instance, Texas operates its roads with the same pay as you go mentality by opting for toll roads (Brown et al., 2014). Toll roads receive some government funding through state issued bonds and the collection of tolls after completion. This system is hardly fair for the citizens who do not use the toll roads but still must subsidize them through taxpayer dollars when the toll revenue does not meet the projected earnings. There are also many more citizens in Texas who live below the poverty line, 18.4% for Texas in comparison to 15.1% for the entire United States (Brown et al., 2014). With a larger proportion of citizens in poverty the burden to the state becomes greater, especially when funding remains low (Insert citation). Texas is just hurting its citizens by not being able to provide as much support and assistance to them as possible. Texas was given the opportunity, along with every other state in the union, to expand its offering of Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act. A sample of public opinion was obtained ... • 7. Gene Based Evolutionary Theories This week we learned about and studied gene based evolutionary theories that are associated with criminal and antisocial behavior. Among the theories was the r/K theory. The r/K theory is used in evolutionary biology and argues that organisms follow a continuum when reproducing (Smith, 2016, p. 17). This theory consists of r and K selection which are basically opposite of one another. When environmental opportunities allow, organisms near the r end reproduce rapidly and productively. However when doing so, not much time is invested in their offspring (Cullen, Agnew, Wilcox, 2014, p. 71). All of the following are components of r selection: mating is emphasized, several children are reproduced, early reproduction occurs, and rapid and productive ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. The Cult Of True Womanhood Summary In The Cult of True Womanhood by: Barbara Walters, she explains how women of the reform era were expected to submit totally to their husbands and societal pressures to gain a high level of respect while women that fell short of nearly unattainable standards were publicly ostracized. During this period in America women were finally being recognized as important members of society, and on a more personal level men were recognizing that women had emotional qualities that also held value. Women were seen as more naturally pure and moral in this era. On top of moral obligations the mother of a family had many worldly responsibilities. Women were expected to serve as nurse to the family, a sexual and moral companion to the husband, and a spiritual figure within the community. On top of their worldly duties women were also expected to be dainty, but not high maintenance, and submissive, but not mindless. The reading of books was encouraged for maintaining a sharp mind, but not books that were highly educated either, so the Bible became a constant source of knowledge and moral guidance. ... A woman that enjoyed sex before marriage was seen as disgraced in the eyes of God and the community. People all around Texas came together to support FARFA, ensuring a win for the bill. This law allowed people to sell specific homemade foods, but the amount of food given could not exceed $50,00 (farm and ranch freedom). During the Texas Legislative session of 2013, the Texas Cottage Foods Law (Bill: HB 970) was again introduced into the House. FARFA wanted to increase the amount of foods a person could sell, as well as make more locations for the items to be sold. • 10. Incorporating Personal Responsibility in the College... PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY ESSAY Success in college requires one to identify key aspects of personal responsibility, understand the relationship between personal responsibility and college success, and establish a specific plan to follow that will ensure he or she incorporates the various elements of personal responsibility in every facet of his or her college experience. The notion of personal responsibility has been embedded in our culture and as we enter into adulthood we must learn to become personally, academically, financially, socially and mentally responsible. There are times when you may feel you are responsible and may not need or want the help of others in your life. However, life is full of challenges and surprises and it is easy to shift the blame to others if things don t go your way. You must learn to take responsibility by accepting and acknowledging the choices you make in your live. You are where you are in life today because of the choice you made. You made decisions that either benefitted or hindered you. How you accept and acknowledges your personal responsibility depends on how you handle the outcomes of your decisions. I look at personal responsibility as you accepting responsibility for your actions, accepting the consequences that come from those actions and understanding that these actions impact the world around you. Life itself is already full of challenges and once you learn to accept the decisions you made and not blaming others for your actions, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

ITEC 610 Assingement 1 Essay The relationship and interaction between XML and databases ECET610 UMUC Abstract This paper will explore the relationship between XML and databases and the way that they can be leveraged to provide data exchange on the internet. As XML gains popularity as the format for exchanging information via the internet and has become the language of choice for use in database development for Internet use.Introduction XML is a universal data standard and thereby does not need to be translated for use in different database systems. This presents a scalability problem in that when the system contains a few thousand documents the performance tends to degrade and become a management issue. Synchronization is also a problem between the non database code and the database. If changes are made to the database structure the XML pointers need to be updated as well and the system is not very portable. The XML mapping style of data storage is used by web sites that map user inputs into XML schema that manages the storage and retrieval of the data as shown in the example Figure 1. This is an effective method when the existing data is in XML format. Using XML to simplify processes The flexibility of XML has made it the standard for the formatting and sharing of data via the web. XML data is easily transferable across machines and applications and is not constrained by the operating system of the host machine. This ease of translation enables XML to be transformed into non XML formats for use with databases and their associated applications. An XML database is a database that stores the data fields in XML format. This allows for cross platform transferability and web page presentation. • 16. I Want To Pursue My Master s Degree At Robert Wood Johnson... I recall a warm summer afternoon when I had just arrived home from college to find the house wide open and eerily dormant. As I entered, my eyes suddenly caught hold of a bright yellow note on the counter written by my father. Barkha, call my cell phone. My mother, who had gone to do laundry at a Laundromat, was suddenly assaulted by a stranger wearing a mask and wielding a knife. As she grabbed onto the knife, her hands chafed against the sharp edges. I recollect standing anxiously in a side room of the ER when a young physician opened the door, and in a clear, deliberate, yet empathetic manner, informed us that my mother s skin and the nerves of her hand had been torn and damaged. A lacework of I.V. lines and an oxygen mask on her face was the last thing I could ever imagine. I visually examined in astonishment the young physician s serenity and dedication. ... • 22. Gender Relations During The Jacobean Period Deconstructing Gender Relations Gender in the Jacobean Period was approached differently than gender in the 18th century. One can use the Jacobean period play Measure for Measure by William Shakespeare and the 18th century play The Beaux Stratagem by George Farquhar to examine gender relations during the two periods. The plays demonstrate how women were represented in society and what societal expectations were at the time. The way women navigated their own sexuality, finances, and power relation s improved noticeably from the Jacobean Period to the 18th century. During the Jacobean Period women were not allowed to preform in theatres; all of the players were men and boys (Spear 13). Because of the violent nature of theatres women didn t attend plays as Groundlings and few could afford to sit above in the covered seats above. The theatre was a place for corruption and immorality and women were looked down upon during the Jacobean Period for attending performances in playhouses around London. The theatre was a harsh place where audience members were tightly packed in. They would hiss, shout, and throw rotten vegetables at actors they disliked or applaud and clap for those they approved of (Spear 14). The play Measure for Measure shows the powerlessness of women during the Jacobean Period. The female characters in the play are helpless in determining their fates. Many historians and those who have studied the Great War tend to give varied opinions as to what initially sparked the outbreak. With Social Darwinism in mind, the new German king Wilhelm II sparked serious concern amongst the European powers by establishing two pieces of foreign policy known as Weltpolitik and Mitteleuropa. Weltpolitik, according to Debruck (1899), was a piece of legislation that was established to help the Germans pursue colonial and naval power in the grand manner through either peace or war. The other policy, Mitteleuropa, also caused huge political unrest amongst the great powers as it was viewed as a plan for Europe to be completely dominated by German empires. • 25. The Importance Of Character Development In Anthem Character development is essential in a character driven literature, where the plot focuses not on the events themselves, but actually on the characters motivations throughout their story. This literary device is utilized step by step in order to focus and clarify the crucial aspects about the character in a story. The stories that move us most, the ones that will be trapped inside our minds years later, are those inhabited by characters the reader can connect with on a deep emotional level. No one character can grasp in a story what they need to learn in order to give in or overcome their own limitations and flaws without first undergoing rigorous life experiences. The bumpy path of individual growth and development a certain character undergoes ultimately stares at a crossroad. Imperfections, traits and vices make a character more genuine and interesting, making them grow as a person. Equality 7 2521 s development as a character throughout Anthem can be seen as a progressive move towards the distinctive way of thinking he discovers and presents in the final chapters of the novel. It s an egoistic way of thinking, because it asserts that the only goal of any individual human being should be to pursue his own happiness, and not to subordinate his happiness to the service of others.
