The On The Board Game Monopoly
Introduction: The board game Monopoly is played amongst a group of 2 8 players. Each player roles
his or her dice and move around the board landing on properties, railroads, or utilities. The properties
typically raise in value the further along a player moves around the board. The thought of Boardwalk s
value depreciating to Mediterranean Avenue is unheard of in the board game of Monopoly. However,
in the real life game of Monopoly, a major city in America (Detroit, Michigan) had experienced a
catastrophic depreciation in value that ultimately led to the city filing for chapter 9 bankruptcy. This
writing assignment will evaluate the components that led to the rise and fall of a major city in
America. First, it is important to examine the components that led to the growth and prosperity of
Detroit, Michigan. The Rise of Detroit: The most significant factor that catapulted Detroit, Michigan
to becoming a prosperous city in America was the mass production of the automobile in the early 20th
century. Three companies encompassed the auto industry in America and they were Ford, General
Motors, and Chrysler. Consequently, the three companies were referred to as the Big Three. The Big
Three established their headquarters, and assemble plants in the Detroit area. David Littman, Senior
Vice President chief Economist, Comerica Bank (retired) stated, what really built the city of Detroit

Obscenity Laws Texts Schools And Public Libraries
Daniel Wilson Avril Torrence ENGL 382 10 April 2015 Obscenity Laws Texts In Schools And Public
Libraries Obscenity Laws Texts in Schools and Public Libraries Introduction Morality is a virtue that
all humans ought to embrace. The different societies where we live in have set standards that provide
guidelines that all are to follow. However, with all the set conditions, a section of the population still
chose to go astray. Through their actions, verbally and in all manners known to them, this group
upholds obscene vices that are a deterrent to the community s standards of decency (Ryder 210).
Obscene practices extend to those materials that are intended to invoke impure sexual thoughts. These
materials spread in publications to schools and public libraries at high rates. The question arises that,
to what limit should a material be labeled as obscene? Certain fiction writers do not consider the use
of euphemisms in their works and at certain times cause intentional ambiguity that attracts diverse
reactions from their readers. This phenomenon comes about from what is termed as the reception
theory. The mind tends to develop in accordance with the exposure (Cossman 50). It is evident that
these scenes tend to be more attractive to the unsuspecting persons, mostly teenagers; therefore,
developing strategies to protect them is essential. The Canadian government believes that continuing
to produce these materials can corrupt the minds of the readers and the wider population.

The Two Pieces Of Paintings
The two pieces of artworks from the list of sacred places I chose to compare were the Ziggurat of Ur
in Iraq and the Great Stupa in India. The first piece of Artwork was originally located in the city of Ur,
it is called the Ziggurat of Ur. The Ziggurat of Ur was built by the Sumerians. The Sumerians were the
first group of people in Mesopotamia, known as the cradle of civilization. They invented the first form
of writing known as cuneiform, along with the wheel. Sumerians worshipped many Gods and
Goddesses in temples or located in ziggurats (Gateways to Art, 2012, p.371). Ziggurats are known as
Mesopotamian temples or pyramids that grew in size toward the bottom, constructed from mud and
bricks. The Ziggurats were man made mountains which housed Gods and Goddesses. The Ziggurats of
Ur happen to resemble the Egyptian pyramids however they weren t produced to specifically to bury
the decease. The authors of Gateways to Art summarizes: The architectural design of the Ziggurats of
Ur is mudbrick structures made up of three stepped levels, accessed by stairways or ramps...the lowest
level is about 50ft. high and about 210 by 150 ft. in area, with others decreasing in size as they get
closer to the heavens...while the topmost platform is more than 100 ft. high (Dewitte, Larmann,
Shields, 2012, p.565). The priest is the only person that has access to the top floor of the Ziggurat of
Ur, the priest evidently is not only the commissioner of the city but he s also the one who

Media Gender Roles
Is our belief influenced by the Media
We are living in a world where your identity is influenced by the media. Media is involved in our daily
lives. Media has represented on what people think about topics, one of the most common ones is
gender roles. Media indicated their messages into our consciousness at every opportunity that it had.
Gender roles are a set of norms dictating the personality and actions of people based on their
biological sex or what they identify. Gender roles in media are used in delirious stereotypes can cause
self image in young adults, causing loss of confidence, mostly in women. Many authors had expressed
their opinion about gender roles in media through non fiction articles. For instance, Katty Kay and
Claire Shipman, who wrote, The Confidence Gap, confronts the lack of woman s confidence
impacting their performance. Another example is given by Cordelia Fine, who wrote, Why Toys so
Gendered? in which she says that gendered toy marketing doesn t create gender stereotype, but it
reinforces them. Lastly, Allison Lantagne, who wrote, Gender roles in Media, says that is up to the
individual to decide what type of role they are going to adopt. She also includes that media reinforces
social norms because the public accepts them. I agree with Allison Lantagne says that the media has
an influence on our beliefs and attitudes toward gender because of its perfected image of genders,
projects what a woman and a male should do, and what abilities each

The Fda And The Usda Deems It Safe For Beef Manufacturers
The FDA and the USDA deem it safe for beef manufacturers to use ammonia in their meat filler. In
fact 70% of meat filler contains ammonia (Avila, 70 Percent of Ground Beef at Supermarkets Contains
Pink Slime. ). Millions of Americans consume beef daily, and are unaware of what actually makes up
the meat they are consuming. Because the hamburger is such a staple in many American s diets it didn
t take long for someone to develop a cheap solution to produce more burger product for consumers,
and to make a greater profit. Beef Products Inc. in South Dakota after lots of testing came up with the
solution of injecting low grade beef with ammonia and creating a cheaper product by using fatty
trimmings that were sold for pet food (Avila, 70 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Ammonia: Beef or Pink Slime?
By: Sara Beth Wilken
In 1984, the humorous advertising slogan for Wendy s fast food chain, Where s the beef? became very
popular and was meant to show their beef patties were much larger when compared to other fast food
burger establishments (Reno Gazette). The pictures of their patties were obviously bigger, but we all
missed the most important question. What is in the beef patties?
Americans consume approximately 5 billion hamburgers each year which equates to roughly 1.2
billion pounds of meat (Reno gazette). Most consumers assume that the hamburger they eat is
composed primarily of meat. However, Fast Food Burgers: What are we really eating? Published a
recent study that analyzed eight different brands of fast food hamburgers revealing a different truth
(Reno gazette). The answer of what our burgers are made of is mostly water. The amount of water in
these burgers was as much as 37 64 percent which is something most likely all consumers would
never consider (Reno gazette). This raises the question; how much actual beef are the burgers we
consume made of? Surprisingly, the meat content was as low as 2 to 15 percent in

The Stock Market Theory Of Merger
Outline the stock market theory of merger and set out its predictions about the effect of merger on post
merger profitability. What does the empirical evidence on mergers show about the gains from merger?
In light of your analysis what policy recommendations would you make for policies to control mergers

In the vast and voracious business world, attention from media as well as corporations themselves
have been predominantly focused on the phenomena that is mergers and acquisitions, undoubtedly due
to the sheer volume and frequency of merger and acquisition activity in the past couple of decades.
Yet, societies appetite analyzing mergers have been documented as far back as the merger waves of

James Tobin theorized that firms would continue to invest as long as the values of their shares
exceeded the replacement cost of their assets, therefore highlighting that the market value of a firm
equals total asset replacement cost (Tobin 1958). Furthermore, market value of a firm to net
replacement cost Is best expressed in relation to Tobin s Q equation where if Q value is greater than 1,
then a firm should consider expansion and growth as profit derived from net assets should exceed the
total cost of assets because if Q is a measurement of performance then takeover returns are larger if
the target is performing poorly, and the bidder is performing well (Servaes 1991). Contrastingly, if the
Q value was lower than 1 , the firm would be better off selling its assets as monetary value of the
assets are more than the value of retaining them . According to neo classical economic theory mergers
occur from a result of profit maximizing behavior where rationally companies merge to gain a
competitive advantage in the market place, recognized by the extent to which the company has acted
out its synergy basis which is the idea that by combining business strategies and activities,
performance will increase and efficiency will lead to cost reduction due to the essential notion that a
business will intend to merge with another

Who Is Billy Budd A Hero
In his work Billy Budd, Sailor, Herman Melville portrays the protagonist, Billy Budd, as an excellent
sailor and diligent worker who is emotionally underdeveloped. Billy is written as being naive and
good natured, and fails to see the evil that lurks within people. Billy s personal attributes, his
impressment by the British Navy, as well as the wrongful wishes of other men upon his his ship are all
attributes to the Handsome Sailor s downfall. After reading this novella, I have concluded that Billy
Budd is a victim of many wrongful deeds done by man and by man s wars, but Billy is a victim of his
own naivety as well.
In the first paragraph of the novella, the narrator describes Billy Budd as being the Handsome Sailor
of his merchant ship, the Rights of Man. He was well liked by his crewmates and also well respected
due to previous confrontations, such as his brief fight with Red Whiskers. Captain Graveling, when
speaking to Lieutenant Ratcliffe, even stated how they all love him (1). Unfortunately for Billy, his
natural physical ability in combination with his good naturedness made him a victim of his own
success. Upon boarding the ship searching for men to recruit for the navy, Lieutenant Ratcliffe ...

Today, this would simply be known as bullying. For instance, in chapter twelve one of Claggart s
corporals, Squeak, encouraged the hatred of Billy by lying about his actions. Billy, unsuspecting and
unable to fathom this spitefulness, returned to Dansker in hopes of a more clear solution. This was to
no avail, as Dansker merely repeated his warning. After this however, the narrator writes how two
officers, the Armorer and Captain of the Hold, began to began to cast upon Billy when they chanced to
encounter him (17). This played directly against Billy s naivety, another characteristic that proved to

Interest in Land
The interest in land is defined as the rights, titles, advantages, duties or liabilities in relation to the
land. This allows the holder to have a right over the land formed from an estate although will not
provide exclusive possession of the parcel of land. Interest in the land is known to be security for
debts (mortgages), easements, restrictive covenants, profit a prendre, and leases.
Easements
An easement is defined as the enforceable interest in land in which another person may benefit or use
others land for a particular activity in a positive (permitting some activity) or negative (preventing
some activity). Rights of way, rights of light and air, rights of water and drainage and rights to support
of a building by an adjacent building or land are all examples generally used easements. Land estate
owners are responsible to define and limit the right of the land for use, as the easement runs through
the land. Easements are recorded on the title of the land affected as they are not natural rights and
must be created using express agreements between the owner of the two parcels of

Informative Essay On Speed Skating
Speed skating is a Winter Olympic sport that has become very popular over the years. One of the most
popular sports in Poland is speed skating. Poland has won many speed skating medals in the Winter
Olympics. One of their best speed skaters is named Zbigniew Brodka, who won gold in the 1,500
meter race at the Winter Olympics in Sochi, 2014. The history of speed skating traces back 1,000
years ago in Scandinavia and the Netherlands. They had originally used snowshoes and skis to travel
through snow, but realized they could travel quicker across ice, using skates (SSHIST.doc). The first
speed skaters used animal bones, and boots made of animal skin to make skates (Thrillspire.com).
Speed skating was originally developed as a form of transportation.

Aggregate Production Plan Riordan s goals are to reduce costs by 10% and cycle time by 15%. This is
increasingly difficult because Riordan has multiple products with varying demands, multiple prices,
and capacity requirements. Riordan will use its forecasted sales figures to build a materials and
production schedule for 2007 and beyond if needed. This plan must take into consideration existing
inventory and resources as well as planned changes. For this plan to be effective, it must be followed
closely and clear checkpoints must be defined to provide the flexibility needed to hit cost reduction
and cycle time improvement goals.
Master Production Schedule The existing production schedule will be maximized with the use of a
Materials Requirement Planning System. To determine an acceptable feasible schedule to be released

Genesis Vs. Enuma Elish
Compare and Contrast: Genesis and Enuma Elish Genesis and Enuma Elish (also known as the Epic
of Creation,) are often compared by scholars due to their being a shared account between the two.
Even though both stories have their similarities, they are indeed very different in almost every way.
Genesis has one creator, God, while Enuma Elish has two. Genesis describes God creating sea and
land creatures on the fifth day, opposed to Enuma Elish where there are no accounts of this in the
Babylonian records.
In the chapter of Genesis in the Hebrew Bible, God alone, created the Heavens and the Earth from
nothing, he created humans from dust and the sun, moon, stars, and the seasons. In the Enuma Elish,

University Of Florida s Online Program
University of Florida s Online Program The University of Florida s (UoF) realization that brick and
mortar schools no longer serve as the only means to attaining a higher education established an
institutional paradigm shift (Kuhn, 2012) on education delivery. The university s evolution of an
online education developed alongside the growth of technology (Blocher, DeMontes, Willis, Tucker,
2002) and the needs of the community (University of Florida, Distance Learning, 2016). For the UoF,
online programs began transforming as early as 1947 when challenged to adapt during world events
such as the need to deliver GED home study courses to nearly 6,000 immigrants (University of
Florida, History, 2016). In years that followed, an increasingly competitive environment (Volery Lord,
2000) led to the video taping of lectures in 1991 and to the online courses and Massive Open Online
Courses (MOOCs) that initiated in 2013. In its early development MOOCs were housed under the
Coursera website since it provided an opportunity to test online courses (Coursera.com, 2016; College
Factual, 2016). Today, the UoF houses both MOOCs and online programs within the Division of
Continuing Education (DCE), which the university established in 2009 and dedicated full time faculty
to it due to the steady growth of online education (University of Florida, Distance and Continuing

The bill itself seems harmless, but attorneys argued that the bill would make it difficult to challenge
the validity of foreclosure records when reports of improperly foreclosed homes were increasing. To
ensure that the unintended effects of the bill wouldn t harm consumers, President Obama vetoed it and
sent it back to Congress. This is where the system of checks and balances is used. When the president
disagrees with a legislation passed by Congress, he has the right to veto the bill as the executive
branches check and balance against the power of the legislative branch. President Obama s actions
showed how the executive branch can check the legislative branch by vetoing bills that could
potentially harm the public welfare of the nation.
Of course, Congress could have overturned President Obama s veto with a 2/3 vote in both houses.
While the executive branch can veto legislations passed by the legislative branch, the legislative
branch can also check the executive branch by overriding the presidential veto. Ambition must be
made to counteract ambition. The system of checks and balances is one branch counteracting the
influences of another, creating a stalemate as exemplified above. None of the three branches can exert
any source of power over the others without being counterbalanced by the powers of another branch.
For example, President Obama nominated Elena Kagan for the Supreme Court

The Evolution of Film Essay example
In the early times of narrative cinema there was litter pressure on the filmmakers for the evolution of
film forms before nickelodeons (Salt, 31) as cinema had not become a mass cultural product and film
was still just a novelty expected to die out like rock n roll. And so the demand was low and so the
supply could remain unoriginal. Mary Jane s Mishap was made in 1903 when multi scene films were
becoming popular (Salt, 32). Mary Jane s Mishap is notable for its use of experimental and inventive
shot transitions. It used a vertical wipe to instead of separate successive scenes (Salt, 32) (as it cuts to

Analytical Essay On The Waterfront
In the realist film, On The Waterfront, Elia Kazan offers the audience an exploration of what it means
to value individual conscience in the pursuit of justice. Set across from New York City, Kazan s tense
expose of organised corruption in the 1950 s follows the protagonist, Terry Malloy, as he struggles to
choose between his loyalties in a world filled with dishonesty and trepidation. Although it may seem
that many of the characters are bound to silence by fear and corruption, Kazan implies that a strong
moral presence can motivate others to help their community by exposing the facts to the public .
Kazan suggests that poverty and corruption can lead people to live in fear of those in power, as well as
how people may feel obliged to be loyal to those have helped them in the past. In addition to this,
Kazan conveys that a strong moral voice can be enough to catalyse change in a community. Through
the exploitation of the workers on the docks, Kazan highlights how power and corruption can drive
people towards keeping silent about things they know are morally inacceptable. Set in Hoboken, the
New York skyline constantly appears in the distance to represent the American dream. However, it is
always masked by a layer of fog and separated from the workers by a tall, metal fence. Therefore,
Kazan implies that, despite the idea that everyone should have an equal opportunity to prosper and
live comfortably, the American dream is obscured and unreachable for the longshoremen working on
the docks, with one worker even claiming: I m poorer now than when I started . Kazan further
demonstrates this view through his portrayal of Johnny Friendly and the Mob, who prevent the
workers from reaching this ideal. For example, when Father Barry first appears at the docks, one of
Johnny Friendly s men is taunting the workers, questioning: What s the matter? Nobody want to work
today? before leaving the workers frantically scrabbling for a token and the chance to get a day s
work. This suggests that the longshoremen are like pigeons searching for their day s feed, powerless
against the hawks watching from above who will be right down on them if they dare to speak out
against them. As a consequence, Kazan implies that the

Hieroglyphs In Ancient Egypt
1. Hieroglyphs were the next advancement around the year of 3300 or 3200 BCE. This advancement
came during early civilizations. Hieroglyphs were an extension to pictographs, however, letters began
to represent these symbols that were drawn on the walls. These letters were the first step in creating a
written language. Due to hieroglyphs emerging from a preliterate Egypt, Egyptian writing had a set of
some 22 hieroglyphs to represent syllables that begin with a single consonant of their language, plus a
vowel to be supplied by the native speaker. The hieroglyphic system used in ancient Egypt evolved
and had between 700 and 800 basic symbols and the number continued to grow. Hieroglyphs were
used for the next 3,500 years, all the way into Alexander the Great s time. However, as time went on,
by the 4th century few Egyptians were able to read the hieroglyphs ... Show more content on

1. Pictographs formed the basis for early written symbols as used by ancient Egyptian, Sumerian and
Chinese civilizations. This era was known as prehistory. These ancient civilizations used symbols
nearly 5000 years back and developed them before history was recorded. A pictogram or pictograph is
a symbol representing a concept, object, activity, place or event by illustration. Pictograph s also
represented the fine arts during this time. Pictography is a form of writing whereby ideas are
transmitted through drawing. Pictograms are still in use as the main medium of written

Coming Of Age Throughout Mississippi By Anne Moody
Coming of Age in Mississippi Essay
Fredric Stanley
HIST 3881
Professor James Conway
7 November 2015 Though we Americans, in all of our efforts, feel as if the day of racism is coming to
an end, I feel it is merely evolving into a much more subtle approach. Seeing life through the words of
Anne Moody in her book entitled, Coming of Age in Mississippi , shows that racism, even back then,
is treated with remedies versus a cure. After the many anti discrimination legislations passed as well as
activist groups shedding light on all of the significant differences and injustices that African
Americans face, one would think that by now racism would be far behind us here in America. After a
close review of Anne Moody s life, her growing up ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Anne Moody saw the true hideousness of racial violence shortly after beginning high school. Emmet
Till was killed by a group of white men for merely whistling and showing interest in a white woman.
Anne was surprised at how unaware she was to the things happening around her. I don t remember if
anyone was murdered, but back when I was in high school it was almost as if whites viewed it to be
cardinal sin for an African American male to be with a white woman. This too was a time where I saw
the true reality of what it was to be an African American versus a White American. Anne s mother
informed her to continue throughout life as if nothing happened but understandably she couldn t.
While working Anne could not focus and her rage began to display. Mrs. Burke made an attempt to
talk to Anne concerning Emmet Till s death but Anne acted as if she didn t know what Mrs. Burke was
speaking of. Mrs. Burke told her that that is what happens when black people step out of place with
whites. It was at that point Anne began to fear for her life now learning the true outlook of being an
African American. I see on a daily basis where African Americans accept injustice and move on with
life as if it doesn t matter. Instead of standing in the gap for what could very well hit home African
Americans tend to turn a blind eye to the corruption and cruelty we face.
So many times within the work force we, African Americans, are reminded where we stand in the eye

The Glass Menagerie By Tennessee Williams
In literature, stories traditionally revolve around a main protagonist, whom the fate of the other
characters rests upon. The protagonist is often expected to struggle and bear important duties in order
to achieve success. The main antagonist, on the other hand, is usually responsible for the struggles that
the protagonist must overcome, and serves as a threat to the characters. The character of Tom in
Tennessee Williams play, The Glass Menagerie, serves as a flawed protagonist. He bears the heavy
responsibility of supporting his family, but also struggles against the boredom and stress of his
everyday life. Despite his positive traits, he clearly shows contempt for each of his family members,
and longs for adventure away from them. Tom s father, whom is only mentioned by the characters, can
be considered an antagonist. His abandonment of his family led to the many difficulties that Tom,
Laura, and Amanda face. As such, he burdens the family and ultimately has influence on Tom s
decision to leave them. Williams uses various literary devices to enhance the theme that one must act
without pity in order to escape life s struggles. The Glass Menagerie takes place in St. Louis, in 1937.
The main protagonist, Tom, works in a shoe factory, and his only source of enjoyment is writing
poetry and watching movies. His sister, Laura, is a crippled woman with little confidence in herself.
Their mother, Amanda, attempts to secure a safe future for Laura, but is ineffective in raising

participants felt their supervisors encouraged explor[ation of] multicultural issues with the goal of
increase[ing] understanding of clients and of themselves (p.282). The awareness of supervisor s own
multicultural understanding lead to more self disclosure on behalf of everyone involved. One result
from this study is the concept and complexity of advocacy and how involved supervisors are in

A connection to a physical location may present us with the perception that we either belong or not
belong however, it is the connections that we form with people in places, memories of previous places
and ones response to experiences within places that heightens ones sense of belonging or alienation.
The concept of belonging through connections with people, experiences and memories in certain
places is explored in the texts Romulus my Father a memoir by Raimond Gaita and Oranges and

It is not a connection with the physical landscape that allows us to experience a sense of inclusion but

Raimond also justifies his mother s affair with Mitru when he describes his mother as a troubled girl
from central Europe who could not settle in the dilapidated landscape that heightened her isolation .
The complexity of the bond is developed through Anna s first attempt at suicide, which is more of a
desperate cry for help; In words that were barely comprehensible she said that she loved me and
wanted to say goodbye, that she would fall asleep and then die . This vivid memory of his mother
saying goodbye leads to a very complex bond between the pair. Perhaps the most intense memory of
his mother that Gaita has is the memory of his mother returning from hospital after this suicide
attempt, alone, small, frail, walking with an uncertain gait and a distracted air. In the vast landscape
with only crude wire fences and a rough track to mark an human impression on it she appeared
forsaken. She looked at me as though she had returned from the dead, unsure about the value of her
achievement . The memory is bittersweet, although she is alive after a failed suicide attempt; she
conveys a vivid impression of someone who does not belong in the place they are in and does not
seem to belong in that life. Raymond s memories of experiences at Frogmore, especially experiences
with regards to his mother, has shaped and built his connection with Frogmore allowing him to

Essay Buddhist Japanese Art
Introduced by a mission from Korea in 552 C.E., Buddhism has long been a central theme in Japanese
artwork. Since the king of Paekche, a kingdom in the South East of the Korean peninsula, first gave
the Japanese emperor a bronze Buddha statue, the Buddhist art forms that were periodically
introduced from China and Korea were tempered in the crucible of local custom and usage, to yield a
rich tradition of religious art. The role of Buddhism in Japan was greatly amplified during the life and
reign of Prince Umaydo, known better by his Buddhist name, Prince Shotoku. Shotoku, meaning
Sagely and Virtuous, was born into a family that had been importing foreign Buddhist images for
nearly 20 years, and had begun to embrace the religion. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Ginans Of The Pirs
In the Ginans, it is common to find usage of terminology and symbolism, which has a Hindu
background. This is because the majority of the addressees of the Pirs were Hindus and therefore the
Pirs incorporated symbolism, terminology, themes and ideas prevalent within the local milieu.
However, the underlying message in these verses is congruent with the teachings of Islam and
particularly with the Ismaili Tarīqah.
Acculturation, leading to a fusion of Ismaili beliefs and Hindu concepts to form the Ismaili belief
system, is undoubtedly a prominent feature of, but certainly not exclusive to, the Ginanic approach of
da wa (propagation of Faith). Similar traits are evident in other Ismaili traditions. For example, during
the Fatimide period, there was a synthesis of Ismaili beliefs with Neoplatonic and Gnostic ideas, while
during the Alamūt period there was an assimilation of Ismaili concepts with Sufism. The reason
behind this approach is clearly straightforward to propagate the message of the Ismaili Faith within the
framework of the local milieu to acquire optimum results. This approach aptly falls within the scope
of the formula for da wa, prescribed by the Holy Qur an:
Invite (all) to the Way of thy Lord with wisdom and beautiful preaching; and argue with them in ways
that are best and most gracious: for thy Lord knoweth best, who have strayed from His Path, and who
receive guidance.

Economic Consequences Of The Black Death
2. Outline the main short term and longer term economic consequences of the Black Death. Which
was the most significant?
The devastating consequences of the Black Death, which was at its peak between 1346 and 1353, did
not cease after the period had ended. The Black Death caused the death of about a third of Europe s
population, with some places, such as Florence losing as much as two thirds of its population. With a
smaller population, Europe saw a short term rise in jobs available for peasants and, with labourers
needing to compete to keep the few workers they had, a subsequent rise in their wages. Further, for
many peasants and others who did not own land, living conditions improved, as with more housing
available, and with more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

occurred one after the other, with each new consequence having been affected by the one before it. It

fuelling the change in economy throughout Europe.
4. What is the principle of attachment ? Give two examples of how it functioned in the exploration of
the New World.
The principle of attachment, as first noted by the historian Anthony Pagden, is able to be identified in
many primary sources from the period of exploration. The principle of attachment occurs when a
known, understood and believed action is combined with an unknown action that is foreign to the
person employing it. This is often done in order to reconcile new actions, or places, with the person s
own beliefs. In the exploration of the New World, the principle of attachment occurred largely due to
the concept of otherness . This is because, the European view of native peoples as uncivilised, bestial,
and savage made the use of native techniques unlikely, even when the native methods appeared
effective. Instead, the steps in Pagden s principle of attachment were employed so that explorers could
thrive in a new land, while continuing to embody European ideals.

Martin Luther, John Calvin And The Protestant Reformation
One theme present during the reformation, was smaller churches breaking off from the larger church,
and establishing their own forms of christianity. Many people were unhappy with the way the church
was running and sought to reform these flaws by making their own forms of the church. People such
as Martin Luther and John Calvin, were unhappy with how the church was being run created their own
religions. Martin Luther created Lutheranism, which did not believe in the selling of indulgences and
believed that salvation was granted by faith alone. Both of these ideas went against the Church at the
time and his ideas were highly disputed. John calvin had created Calvinism, which believed in
predestination, which meant that God had already decided who was saved, and who was damned. The
idea of predestination also went against the church s idea that faith and good works lead to salvation.
2. Immorality, ignorance, and pluralism all gave the church a bad name, but immorality hurt the
church the most. Immorality in the church consisted of gambling, drinking, and promiscuity which
cast a bad light on the church as the clergy were supposed to be men of god and were not to engage in
such devious acts. The clergy was also highly ignorant with many preaches not knowing latin, the ...

What Is John Locke s Second Treatise
The Second Treatise, of Civil Government, written by John Locke, was an influential book in shaping
political philosophy. Locke was an English philosopher known for developing liberalism. He wrote
two treatises altogether to give his overall argument about how society should be run. The first treatise
criticized Robert Filmer s Patriarcha, which talked about the king s rule over England. The second
treatise reviewed Locke s view on the rights of the people. He often uses the law of Nature as a
reference, which refers to the moral principles for people in society. There are also sections in the
book that influenced James Madison in the creation of the Bill of Rights. One section in the second
treatise argues a person should not be deprived of life, liberty, and property. This belief was
incorporated into the fifth amendment when revising the Constitution. The Second Treatise, of Civil
Government influenced several more functions of our society ... Show more content on

Locke stated that because people are creatures of the same species, they should not be treated
differently than others. Another section starts to explain Locke s view on the process of the law. He
believed that there should be laws created to decide what actions are right or wrong. To enforce the
laws, there would need to be a judge and an executioner. There would also need to be punishment for
a crime to prevent people from committing other ones. That being said, a man has the right to do what
is best for himself and his community, as long as it follows the laws. Another one of Locke s views
stresses the importance of having a legislative branch. A legislative power should be put in place to
govern laws. In order to set laws, each one must apply to everyone, no matter their class or importance
in society. Also, a person cannot simply make a law for them self and expect everyone else to follow.
A law can only be made by people who have the power to do

Change of Universities is one of the reasons why students take longer to graduate. Mostly because the
credits that are offered in one institution are not counted in the other institution. Thus it is hard to keep
track of what credits or courses the student has take during the non traditional 2 year institution.
(Rhine, Milligan) The article by Whine and Milligan describe the adversities transfer students face
coming from community colleges. One of the suggestions made to community colleges to ameliorate
the transferring process of the students is close advising and creation of a goal plan. The lack of a goal
erases the sense of duty and perseverance in students. If student don t have a plan, they attend college,

Explain the concepts of business risk and financial risk. (/2010)
Business risk is the possibility that a company will have lower than anticipated profits, or that it will

government regulation amongst others. A company with a higher business risk should choose a capital
structure that has a lower debt ratio to ensure that it can meet its financial obligations at all times. The
ratios used to evaluate business risk include the contribution margin ratio, operating leverage ratio,
financial leverage ratio and total leverage ratio.
Financial risk is the possibility that shareholders will lose money when they invest in a company that
has debt, if the company s cash flow proves inadequate to meet its financial obligations. When a

Project Management Training Program Project
Project Management Training Project management has been defined as the process that involves the
application of different processes, methods, knowledge, experience and skills for purposes of
achieving the objectives of the project. On the other hand, a project is always defined as a unique and
a transient endeavor that is undertaken to achieve an organization s planned goals that could be
defined on the basis of outputs and benefits. The process of managing a project entails the
development of an effective project plan, a process that entails the definition as well as the
confirmation of the project goals and objectives. The plan also gives a clear outline of how the project
objectives will be achieved, identification of the tasks as well as the quantification of all the needed
resources. The plan also plays an important role in developing an appropriate budget for the project as
well as the most appropriate timeline that will be taken to complete the project being carried out. The
process of project management also includes a statement of the most effective ways of implementing
the project plan along with the best controls that will ensure that the objectives of the organization are
met effectively and efficiently. It is thus important for organizations to have effective project

The Causes Of Global Warming
Global Warming
Humans are the most influential causes of global warming. This is mainly happening because of the
carbon pollution spreading throughout the atmosphere caused by burning fossil fuels. Carbon dioxide
and many other chemicals released into the atmosphere act like a blanket which traps the heat of the
sun and causes the planet to get warmer. From 2000 to 2009 it was the hottest decade in the past 1,200
years (according to the National Climate Assessment). This is changing everything about Earth, from
land, atmosphere, oceans, and ice. This causes extreme weather, polluted air, wildlife extinction, and
even diseases due to the warmer weather. Global warming is a huge problem in our world today and
we must try to lessen the affects by encouraging the government to spend its attention more on global
warming programs, informational ads, and websites in order to keep the world safe and to secure a
better future. As sea and land experience fast changes, the organisms that inhabit them are challenged
if they do not adapt fast enough. Many freshwater, land, and ocean species are moving to colder
climates in order to escape the heat. They are also changing migrational patterns and seasonal
behaviors. Many animals can die from these experiences and some species can even go extinct. A
2015 study from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change presented that vertebrate species like
birds, fish, and reptiles are disappearing 114 times faster than they should be and this

Synthetic Dye Research Paper
Look down at your lap.
Are you wearing jeans?
Even if you re still in sweatpants, I m willing to bet you ve got a few pairs of denim nearby, right?
With so many jeans walking around today, it s easy to forget that their classic indigo color is actually
rare in nature. And while modern synthetic dyes have made this deep blue a common color, it wasn t
always so.
In fact, for centuries, in part because of its rarity, people across cultures and religions went totally
bonkers for indigo.
Demand for the color sparked trade wars, fueled Trans Atlantic slavery, and for a time the dye was
actually used as straight up currency.
The indigo craze probably even influenced Newton s original color wheel, even though most color

Eventually the liquid was drained, mixed with lye, molded into cakes, dried, and pounded into
powder.
Dyers could then mix that powder with water and other substances in soaking vats to get the exact

India probably cultivated the original commercial supply of Old World indigo that worked it s way
around European trade routes during the Greco Roman era.
The so called blue gold later became culturally important and highly desired throughout Europe,
Japan, and West Africa, before eventually making it s way to the American colonies, where its
cultivation and trade helped fund the Revolutionary War effort.
Around the turn of 20th century synthetic indigo dye came on scene and decimated the natural dye
market. Today most commercial operations use the synthetic indigo, although environmental concerns
have reignited an interest in natural, sustainable dyes.

slow down or increase the growth of these prokaryotes. When testing this certain type of bacteria the
warm temperature caused it to grow exceptionally fast comparted to the room temperature. Bacteria
are single celled microbes. The cell structure is simpler than that of other organisms as there is no
nucleus or membrane ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The data provided by the table supports the hypothesis; therefore the hypothesis can be accepted. The
hypothesis states that the untreated hand is the one that contained larger amount of bacteria grown.
The reason this is true is because bacteria can be found in environments that are unclean or untreated.
In addition, agar is made from subunits of galactose that contain cell walls from other species such as
the red algae. For this reason the agar plate is commonly used for culturing bacteria is since the
bacteria doesn t eat up the plate instead they grow rapidly on there. The table reflects the results of the
class reinforcing the theory that a treated hand will contain less bacteria than that of an unwashed
hand. A few numbers collected proved the opposite where the treated had more bacteria than the
unwashed hand. Although most of the data correlated to the hypothesis, some were not because of
many unknown factors such as not swiping correctly, or the student swiped too fast not leaving behind
enough bacteria to be delivered to the agar plate or during the hand washing there was not specific
way of washing them. When I plugged in my data the results did not match with the majority of the
class because there were very few bacteria colonies in my untreated and many more on the treated
hand; again, there are many reasons why the experiment did not turn out the way the hypothesis was
originally planned. However my results did not match the hypothesis, I still agree with the original

Fannie Mae Dees Park Analysis
Fannie Mae Dees Park, established in the year nineteen seventy eight, sits just west of downtown
Nashville across from Vanderbilt Medical Center. The park receives its name from the local Nashville
civic leader, Fannie Mae Dees. The commonly known name is the Dragon Park due to the massive,
sixty foot tall, mosaic sculpture of a dragon located at the center of the park. The dragon contains
detailed sculpture tiles composed by local children in a nearby school. Over the years, the displayed
piece has undergone many construction phases in order to maintain its beauty and possibly hazardous
condition. Children of most all ages can enjoy the challenge of climbing the massive structure,
however, young children may need to be supervised. For those

  • 3. The On The Board Game Monopoly Introduction: The board game Monopoly is played amongst a group of 2 8 players. Each player roles his or her dice and move around the board landing on properties, railroads, or utilities. The properties typically raise in value the further along a player moves around the board. The thought of Boardwalk s value depreciating to Mediterranean Avenue is unheard of in the board game of Monopoly. However, in the real life game of Monopoly, a major city in America (Detroit, Michigan) had experienced a catastrophic depreciation in value that ultimately led to the city filing for chapter 9 bankruptcy. This writing assignment will evaluate the components that led to the rise and fall of a major city in America. First, it is important to examine the components that led to the growth and prosperity of Detroit, Michigan. The Rise of Detroit: The most significant factor that catapulted Detroit, Michigan to becoming a prosperous city in America was the mass production of the automobile in the early 20th century. Three companies encompassed the auto industry in America and they were Ford, General Motors, and Chrysler. Consequently, the three companies were referred to as the Big Three. The Big Three established their headquarters, and assemble plants in the Detroit area. • 4. Obscenity Laws Texts Schools And Public Libraries Daniel Wilson Avril Torrence ENGL 382 10 April 2015 Obscenity Laws Texts In Schools And Public Libraries Obscenity Laws Texts in Schools and Public Libraries Introduction Morality is a virtue that all humans ought to embrace. The different societies where we live in have set standards that provide guidelines that all are to follow. However, with all the set conditions, a section of the population still chose to go astray. Through their actions, verbally and in all manners known to them, this group upholds obscene vices that are a deterrent to the community s standards of decency (Ryder 210). Obscene practices extend to those materials that are intended to invoke impure sexual thoughts. These materials spread in publications to schools and public libraries at high rates. The question arises that, to what limit should a material be labeled as obscene? Certain fiction writers do not consider the use of euphemisms in their works and at certain times cause intentional ambiguity that attracts diverse reactions from their readers. This phenomenon comes about from what is termed as the reception theory. The mind tends to develop in accordance with the exposure (Cossman 50). It is evident that these scenes tend to be more attractive to the unsuspecting persons, mostly teenagers; therefore, developing strategies to protect them is essential. The Canadian government believes that continuing to produce these materials can corrupt the minds of the readers and the wider population. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Two Pieces Of Paintings The two pieces of artworks from the list of sacred places I chose to compare were the Ziggurat of Ur in Iraq and the Great Stupa in India. The first piece of Artwork was originally located in the city of Ur, it is called the Ziggurat of Ur. The Ziggurat of Ur was built by the Sumerians. The Sumerians were the first group of people in Mesopotamia, known as the cradle of civilization. They invented the first form of writing known as cuneiform, along with the wheel. Sumerians worshipped many Gods and Goddesses in temples or located in ziggurats (Gateways to Art, 2012, p.371). Ziggurats are known as Mesopotamian temples or pyramids that grew in size toward the bottom, constructed from mud and bricks. The Ziggurats were man made mountains which housed Gods and Goddesses. The Ziggurats of Ur happen to resemble the Egyptian pyramids however they weren t produced to specifically to bury the decease. The authors of Gateways to Art summarizes: The architectural design of the Ziggurats of Ur is mudbrick structures made up of three stepped levels, accessed by stairways or ramps...the lowest level is about 50ft. high and about 210 by 150 ft. in area, with others decreasing in size as they get closer to the heavens...while the topmost platform is more than 100 ft. high (Dewitte, Larmann, Shields, 2012, p.565). The priest is the only person that has access to the top floor of the Ziggurat of Ur, the priest evidently is not only the commissioner of the city but he s also the one who ... Media has represented on what people think about topics, one of the most common ones is gender roles. Media indicated their messages into our consciousness at every opportunity that it had. Gender roles are a set of norms dictating the personality and actions of people based on their biological sex or what they identify. Gender roles in media are used in delirious stereotypes can cause self image in young adults, causing loss of confidence, mostly in women. Many authors had expressed their opinion about gender roles in media through non fiction articles. For instance, Katty Kay and Claire Shipman, who wrote, The Confidence Gap, confronts the lack of woman s confidence impacting their performance. Another example is given by Cordelia Fine, who wrote, Why Toys so Gendered? in which she says that gendered toy marketing doesn t create gender stereotype, but it reinforces them. Lastly, Allison Lantagne, who wrote, Gender roles in Media, says that is up to the individual to decide what type of role they are going to adopt. She also includes that media reinforces social norms because the public accepts them. I agree with Allison Lantagne says that the media has an influence on our beliefs and attitudes toward gender because of its perfected image of genders, projects what a woman and a male should do, and what abilities each ... In fact 70% of meat filler contains ammonia (Avila, 70 Percent of Ground Beef at Supermarkets Contains Pink Slime. ). Millions of Americans consume beef daily, and are unaware of what actually makes up the meat they are consuming. Because the hamburger is such a staple in many American s diets it didn t take long for someone to develop a cheap solution to produce more burger product for consumers, and to make a greater profit. Beef Products Inc. in South Dakota after lots of testing came up with the solution of injecting low grade beef with ammonia and creating a cheaper product by using fatty trimmings that were sold for pet food (Avila, 70 ... My goal is to reveal the facts and to bring awareness to people. Ammonia: Beef or Pink Slime? By: Sara Beth Wilken In 1984, the humorous advertising slogan for Wendy s fast food chain, Where s the beef? became very popular and was meant to show their beef patties were much larger when compared to other fast food burger establishments (Reno Gazette). The pictures of their patties were obviously bigger, but we all missed the most important question. What is in the beef patties? Americans consume approximately 5 billion hamburgers each year which equates to roughly 1.2 billion pounds of meat (Reno gazette). Most consumers assume that the hamburger they eat is composed primarily of meat. However, Fast Food Burgers: What are we really eating? The amount of water in these burgers was as much as 37 64 percent which is something most likely all consumers would never consider (Reno gazette). James Tobin theorized that firms would continue to invest as long as the values of their shares exceeded the replacement cost of their assets, therefore highlighting that the market value of a firm equals total asset replacement cost (Tobin 1958). Furthermore, market value of a firm to net replacement cost Is best expressed in relation to Tobin s Q equation where if Q value is greater than 1, then a firm should consider expansion and growth as profit derived from net assets should exceed the total cost of assets because if Q is a measurement of performance then takeover returns are larger if the target is performing poorly, and the bidder is performing well (Servaes 1991). Contrastingly, if the Q value was lower than 1 , the firm would be better off selling its assets as monetary value of the assets are more than the value of retaining them . According to neo classical economic theory mergers occur from a result of profit maximizing behavior where rationally companies merge to gain a competitive advantage in the market place, recognized by the extent to which the company has acted out its synergy basis which is the idea that by combining business strategies and activities, performance will increase and efficiency will lead to cost reduction due to the essential notion that a business will intend to merge with another ... Billy is written as being naive and good natured, and fails to see the evil that lurks within people. Billy s personal attributes, his impressment by the British Navy, as well as the wrongful wishes of other men upon his his ship are all attributes to the Handsome Sailor s downfall. After reading this novella, I have concluded that Billy Budd is a victim of many wrongful deeds done by man and by man s wars, but Billy is a victim of his own naivety as well. In the first paragraph of the novella, the narrator describes Billy Budd as being the Handsome Sailor of his merchant ship, the Rights of Man. He was well liked by his crewmates and also well respected due to previous confrontations, such as his brief fight with Red Whiskers. Captain Graveling, when speaking to Lieutenant Ratcliffe, even stated how they all love him (1). For the UoF, online programs began transforming as early as 1947 when challenged to adapt during world events such as the need to deliver GED home study courses to nearly 6,000 immigrants (University of Florida, History, 2016). In years that followed, an increasingly competitive environment (Volery Lord, 2000) led to the video taping of lectures in 1991 and to the online courses and Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) that initiated in 2013. When the president disagrees with a legislation passed by Congress, he has the right to veto the bill as the executive branches check and balance against the power of the legislative branch. President Obama s actions showed how the executive branch can check the legislative branch by vetoing bills that could potentially harm the public welfare of the nation. Of course, Congress could have overturned President Obama s veto with a 2/3 vote in both houses. While the executive branch can veto legislations passed by the legislative branch, the legislative branch can also check the executive branch by overriding the presidential veto. • 19. Analytical Essay On The Waterfront In the realist film, On The Waterfront, Elia Kazan offers the audience an exploration of what it means to value individual conscience in the pursuit of justice. Set across from New York City, Kazan s tense expose of organised corruption in the 1950 s follows the protagonist, Terry Malloy, as he struggles to choose between his loyalties in a world filled with dishonesty and trepidation. Although it may seem that many of the characters are bound to silence by fear and corruption, Kazan implies that a strong moral presence can motivate others to help their community by exposing the facts to the public . Kazan suggests that poverty and corruption can lead people to live in fear of those in power, as well as how people may feel obliged to be loyal to those have helped them in the past. In addition to this, Kazan conveys that a strong moral voice can be enough to catalyse change in a community. Through the exploitation of the workers on the docks, Kazan highlights how power and corruption can drive people towards keeping silent about things they know are morally inacceptable. Set in Hoboken, the New York skyline constantly appears in the distance to represent the American dream. However, it is always masked by a layer of fog and separated from the workers by a tall, metal fence. Therefore, Kazan implies that, despite the idea that everyone should have an equal opportunity to prosper and live comfortably, the American dream is obscured and unreachable for the longshoremen working on the docks, with one worker even claiming: I m poorer now than when I started . Kazan further demonstrates this view through his portrayal of Johnny Friendly and the Mob, who prevent the workers from reaching this ideal. For example, when Father Barry first appears at the docks, one of Johnny Friendly s men is taunting the workers, questioning: What s the matter? Nobody want to work today? before leaving the workers frantically scrabbling for a token and the chance to get a day s work. This suggests that the longshoremen are like pigeons searching for their day s feed, powerless against the hawks watching from above who will be right down on them if they dare to speak out against them. • 22. The Glass Menagerie By Tennessee Williams In literature, stories traditionally revolve around a main protagonist, whom the fate of the other characters rests upon. The protagonist is often expected to struggle and bear important duties in order to achieve success. The main antagonist, on the other hand, is usually responsible for the struggles that the protagonist must overcome, and serves as a threat to the characters. The character of Tom in Tennessee Williams play, The Glass Menagerie, serves as a flawed protagonist. He bears the heavy responsibility of supporting his family, but also struggles against the boredom and stress of his everyday life. Despite his positive traits, he clearly shows contempt for each of his family members, and longs for adventure away from them. Tom s father, whom is only mentioned by the characters, can be considered an antagonist. His abandonment of his family led to the many difficulties that Tom, Laura, and Amanda face. As such, he burdens the family and ultimately has influence on Tom s decision to leave them. This vivid memory of his mother saying goodbye leads to a very complex bond between the pair. Perhaps the most intense memory of his mother that Gaita has is the memory of his mother returning from hospital after this suicide attempt, alone, small, frail, walking with an uncertain gait and a distracted air. In the vast landscape with only crude wire fences and a rough track to mark an human impression on it she appeared forsaken. She looked at me as though she had returned from the dead, unsure about the value of her achievement . The memory is bittersweet, although she is alive after a failed suicide attempt; she conveys a vivid impression of someone who does not belong in the place they are in and does not seem to belong in that life. Raymond s memories of experiences at Frogmore, especially experiences with regards to his mother, has shaped and built his connection with Frogmore allowing him to experience ... • 27. Essay Buddhist Japanese Art Introduced by a mission from Korea in 552 C.E., Buddhism has long been a central theme in Japanese artwork. Since the king of Paekche, a kingdom in the South East of the Korean peninsula, first gave the Japanese emperor a bronze Buddha statue, the Buddhist art forms that were periodically introduced from China and Korea were tempered in the crucible of local custom and usage, to yield a rich tradition of religious art. The role of Buddhism in Japan was greatly amplified during the life and reign of Prince Umaydo, known better by his Buddhist name, Prince Shotoku. Shotoku, meaning Sagely and Virtuous, was born into a family that had been importing foreign Buddhist images for nearly 20 years, and had begun to embrace the religion. ... Each bodhisattva is 0.91 m high, while the central figure, measures out to be 0.86 m. The three figures are situated on a wooden pedestal, backed by a bronze mandorla, decorated with smaller seated Buddha s cast in relief. • 28. The Ginans Of The Pirs In the Ginans, it is common to find usage of terminology and symbolism, which has a Hindu background. This is because the majority of the addressees of the Pirs were Hindus and therefore the Pirs incorporated symbolism, terminology, themes and ideas prevalent within the local milieu. However, the underlying message in these verses is congruent with the teachings of Islam and particularly with the Ismaili TarÄ«qah. Acculturation, leading to a fusion of Ismaili beliefs and Hindu concepts to form the Ismaili belief system, is undoubtedly a prominent feature of, but certainly not exclusive to, the Ginanic approach of da wa (propagation of Faith). Similar traits are evident in other Ismaili traditions. For example, during the Fatimide period, there was a synthesis of Ismaili beliefs with Neoplatonic and Gnostic ideas, while during the AlamÅ«t period there was an assimilation of Ismaili concepts with Sufism. The reason behind this approach is clearly straightforward to propagate the message of the Ismaili Faith within the framework of the local milieu to acquire optimum results. This approach aptly falls within the scope of the formula for da wa, prescribed by the Holy Qur an: Invite (all) to the Way of thy Lord with wisdom and beautiful preaching; and argue with them in ways that are best and most gracious: for thy Lord knoweth best, who have strayed from His Path, and who receive guidance. • 29. Economic Consequences Of The Black Death 2. Outline the main short term and longer term economic consequences of the Black Death. Which was the most significant? The devastating consequences of the Black Death, which was at its peak between 1346 and 1353, did not cease after the period had ended. The Black Death caused the death of about a third of Europe s population, with some places, such as Florence losing as much as two thirds of its population. With a smaller population, Europe saw a short term rise in jobs available for peasants and, with labourers needing to compete to keep the few workers they had, a subsequent rise in their wages. Further, for many peasants and others who did not own land, living conditions improved, as with more housing available, and with more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Give two examples of how it functioned in the exploration of the New World. The principle of attachment, as first noted by the historian Anthony Pagden, is able to be identified in many primary sources from the period of exploration. The principle of attachment occurs when a known, understood and believed action is combined with an unknown action that is foreign to the person employing it. This is often done in order to reconcile new actions, or places, with the person s own beliefs. In the exploration of the New World, the principle of attachment occurred largely due to the concept of otherness . This is because, the European view of native peoples as uncivilised, bestial, and savage made the use of native techniques unlikely, even when the native methods appeared effective. Instead, the steps in Pagden s principle of attachment were employed so that explorers could thrive in a new land, while continuing to embody European ideals. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 30. Martin Luther, John Calvin And The Protestant Reformation One theme present during the reformation, was smaller churches breaking off from the larger church, and establishing their own forms of christianity. Many people were unhappy with the way the church was running and sought to reform these flaws by making their own forms of the church. People such as Martin Luther and John Calvin, were unhappy with how the church was being run created their own religions. Martin Luther created Lutheranism, which did not believe in the selling of indulgences and believed that salvation was granted by faith alone. Both of these ideas went against the Church at the time and his ideas were highly disputed. John calvin had created Calvinism, which believed in predestination, which meant that God had already decided who was saved, and who was damned. The idea of predestination also went against the church s idea that faith and good works lead to salvation. 2. Immorality, ignorance, and pluralism all gave the church a bad name, but immorality hurt the church the most. Locke was an English philosopher known for developing liberalism. He wrote two treatises altogether to give his overall argument about how society should be run. The first treatise criticized Robert Filmer s Patriarcha, which talked about the king s rule over England. The second treatise reviewed Locke s view on the rights of the people. He often uses the law of Nature as a reference, which refers to the moral principles for people in society. There are also sections in the book that influenced James Madison in the creation of the Bill of Rights. One section in the second treatise argues a person should not be deprived of life, liberty, and property. This belief was incorporated into the fifth amendment when revising the Constitution. Locke stated that because people are creatures of the same species, they should not be treated differently than others. Another section starts to explain Locke s view on the process of the law. He believed that there should be laws created to decide what actions are right or wrong. To enforce the laws, there would need to be a judge and an executioner. There would also need to be punishment for a crime to prevent people from committing other ones. That being said, a man has the right to do what is best for himself and his community, as long as it follows the laws. Another one of Locke s views stresses the importance of having a legislative branch. A legislative power should be put in place to govern laws. In order to set laws, each one must apply to everyone, no matter their class or importance in society. Also, a person cannot simply make a law for them self and expect everyone else to follow. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Change of Universities is one of the reasons why students take longer to graduate. Mostly because the credits that are offered in one institution are not counted in the other institution. Thus it is hard to keep track of what credits or courses the student has take during the non traditional 2 year institution. (Rhine, Milligan) The article by Whine and Milligan describe the adversities transfer students face coming from community colleges. One of the suggestions made to community colleges to ameliorate the transferring process of the students is close advising and creation of a goal plan. The lack of a goal erases the sense of duty and perseverance in students. If student don t have a plan, they attend college, attend social gathering and parties, however fail to gain the knowledge or sense of direction the college provides for individuals who take advantage of advising and career development. • 35. The Causes Of Global Warming Global Warming Humans are the most influential causes of global warming. This is mainly happening because of the carbon pollution spreading throughout the atmosphere caused by burning fossil fuels. Carbon dioxide and many other chemicals released into the atmosphere act like a blanket which traps the heat of the sun and causes the planet to get warmer. From 2000 to 2009 it was the hottest decade in the past 1,200 years (according to the National Climate Assessment). This is changing everything about Earth, from land, atmosphere, oceans, and ice. This causes extreme weather, polluted air, wildlife extinction, and even diseases due to the warmer weather. Global warming is a huge problem in our world today and we must try to lessen the affects by encouraging the government to spend its attention more on global warming programs, informational ads, and websites in order to keep the world safe and to secure a better future. As sea and land experience fast changes, the organisms that inhabit them are challenged if they do not adapt fast enough. Many freshwater, land, and ocean species are moving to colder climates in order to escape the heat. They are also changing migrational patterns and seasonal behaviors. Many animals can die from these experiences and some species can even go extinct. A 2015 study from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change presented that vertebrate species like birds, fish, and reptiles are disappearing 114 times faster than they should be and this ... With so many jeans walking around today, it s easy to forget that their classic indigo color is actually rare in nature. And while modern synthetic dyes have made this deep blue a common color, it wasn t always so. In fact, for centuries, in part because of its rarity, people across cultures and religions went totally bonkers for indigo. Demand for the color sparked trade wars, fueled Trans Atlantic slavery, and for a time the dye was actually used as straight up currency. Treated Hand Name: Laura Torres Biology 1407 P Abstract The objective of this experiment was to test the effects of bacteria using a treated hand and an unwashed hand. Two plates of agar and a hand is used to retrieve the bacteria and then placed in a temperature where they can survive. Different types of bacteria are affected by the environment that slow down or increase the growth of these prokaryotes. When testing this certain type of bacteria the warm temperature caused it to grow exceptionally fast comparted to the room temperature. Bacteria are single celled microbes. The cell structure is simpler than that of other organisms as there is no nucleus or membrane ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The data provided by the table supports the hypothesis; therefore the hypothesis can be accepted. The hypothesis states that the untreated hand is the one that contained larger amount of bacteria grown. The reason this is true is because bacteria can be found in environments that are unclean or untreated. In addition, agar is made from subunits of galactose that contain cell walls from other species such as the red algae. For this reason the agar plate is commonly used for culturing bacteria is since the bacteria doesn t eat up the plate instead they grow rapidly on there. The table reflects the results of the class reinforcing the theory that a treated hand will contain less bacteria than that of an unwashed hand. A few numbers collected proved the opposite where the treated had more bacteria than the unwashed hand. Although most of the data correlated to the hypothesis, some were not because of many unknown factors such as not swiping correctly, or the student swiped too fast not leaving behind enough bacteria to be delivered to the agar plate or during the hand washing there was not specific way of washing them. When I plugged in my data the results did not match with the majority of the class because there were very few bacteria colonies in my untreated and many more on the treated hand; again, there are many reasons why the experiment did not turn out the way the hypothesis was originally planned. However my results did not match the hypothesis, I still agree with the original ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
