The Ncaa And The U.s. Department Of Defense
The first NCAA concussion case was brought by Adrian Arrington, a former defensive back and rover
for Eastern Illinois, in 2011 (sbnation.com). The reason why this case was made was because the
athletes that got a concussion the NCAA did not do anything about it, but now those players have
medical problems and need some help. As of May 29, 2004 the NCAA and the U.S. Department of
Defense are embarking on a landmark $30 million initiative to enhance the study of student athletes
and service members (ncaa.org). Beside all the money that the NCAA gives to different studies they
also award scholarships and grants. The NCAA awards more than $10 million in scholarships and
grants annually to student athletes and member institution, in addition to the $2.4 billion allocated to
schools to fund athletics scholarships ( NCAA.org). They are also providing $15 million in grant
money over the next three years to fund a joint initiative with the U.S. Department of Defense. The
NCAA has been giving scholarship since 1964 to help college athletes pursue additional education
opportunities. Some of the scholarships are Jim McKay, Walter Byers Postgraduate and Ethnic
Minority and Women s Enhancement Postgraduate. There are a lot of information out there on
scholarship and grants, but every division have different scholarships and grants they can apply for.
The NCAA is committed to enforcing the rules, creating fair competition and establishing a positive

Worlds Collide in A Midsummer Night’s Dream
A Midsummer Night s Dream: Worlds Collide
Four worlds collide in a magical woods one night in midsummer in William Shakespeare s mystical
comedy A Midsummer Night s Dream. The mythological duke of Athens, on the eve of his wedding to
the newly defeated Queen of the Amazons, is called upon by the mortal Egeus to settle a quarrel.
Hermia, Egeus s vociferous daughter, refuses to marry the man her father has betrothed to her, the
enamored Demetrius. Theseus sides with authoritarian Egeus and forces Hermia to marry Demetrius
or face death. Defiantly, Hermia and her love, Lysander, resolve to elope and abscond into the woods,
confessing their plan only to Hermia s covetous ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Shakespeare s unique talent for creating poetry is effective in both establishing character and
demonstrating the theme. The characters of the play all speak in poetic form with the exception of the
English rustics who speak in prose. This helps to place the fairies and lovers on a higher, more
transcendental plane than the artisans. Therefore, the artisans become more comical and lighten up the
confusing comedy of love. The poetry of Shakespeare s genius also clarifies the play s theme of the
extreme confusion and blinding powers of love. The rhythmic words help to create a magical setting
of love while the rhymes portray the confusion each character feels while under the stupefying powers
of love.
Some optimists have compared love to a blissful dream, but Shakespeare s clever intrigue shows what
a confusing nightmare love can be. As the audience ponders the revelry they have just seen as the play
comes to a close, Puck steps forth to conclude the confusion:
If we shadows have offended
Think but this, and all is mended
That you have but slumb red here
While these visions did appear
And this weak and idle theme
No more yielding than a dream.
The audience is left in as much ambiguity as felt throughout the performance, appropriately ending the
play in a puzzling state of confusion.
The theme of night activities dreams and sleep runs throughout the play. The majority of the plot takes
place at night, even the rehearsal for the farcical play. All the

Analysis Of 911 By Michael Burke
Hero. A word that has 7.442 billion different definitions and or examples. An author named Michael
Burke; a writer for the Wall Street Journal, writes to persuade wealthy people who have a strong
influence on the daily world to recognize a problem that happens yearly on a single date.9/11. First
responders or better known as the heros of 9/11 were sent to a different location to watch their own
ceremony at ground zero, all while congressmen sit and take their seats at the real ceremony. This all
arises due to the upcoming 10th anniversary of 9/11. He builds his argument through the use of
organization and pathos.
First and foremost, it was thought that Mr. Burke would never get his his point across. This is what
makes his organization so important. Burke drags his thesis out to three quarter of the article at a point
which he switch his focus to the real point at hand. For weeks ordinary New Yorkers and visitors from
out of town attended there hundreds of memorial services across the city and area suburbs... Fifth
Avenue New York s main street came to a halt Right after the horrific event people everywhere were
mourning the loss of thousands including the lives of first responders. This quote or changing point
marks the start of the real point of the article. To this day it should be assumed that they would be
honored at ground zero at a memorial yearly to thank them for their sacrifices and thank the families
of the ones who made the ultimate sacrifice. But as Burke

Heavy Metal Women
The following essay will delve into the way in which women are represented within the gaming
industry. It will reference an article found on an online journalistic website called Polygon. The article
is titled Dragons Crown Review: Heavy Metal , written by Danielle Riendeau. It is a review of a video
game which was critiqued due to over sexualized female character designs. In spite of Dragon s
Crown being a very well crafted game, this article became one of the most popular artifacts associated
with it.
One cannot dissect the Polygon article in the same manner one would dissect a magazine
advertisement depicting women in a misogynistic fashion. The difference is that the Polygon review
itself is criticising another product. Because of this, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sexism within the gaming industry is one of the many topics of debate which prevent the medium
from reaching a sophisticated status within society. While it is often debated that the male figure is
also exaggerated within these cultures, this essay will predominantly look at the depiction of women
in it.
This next section is dedicated to introducing the article Dragon s Crown Review: Heavy Metal by
Danielle Riendeau, posted on the Polygon journalistic website on the 31st of July 2013. As expected,
this article is a review of the video game Dragon s Crown , published twenty days after the game s
release. The article begins with the following subtitle: Swords and sorcery and cleavage abound in
Dragon s Crown , continuing to state that Dragon s Crown is a fantasy obsessed teenage boy s dream:
crazy, violent and full of impossibly large breasts (Riendeau, 2013).
As stipulated by the article itself, Dragon s Crown was developed by Vanillaware and published by
Atlus, both of which are Japanese organizations. It is a two dimensional Brawler with Role Playing
elements set in an adventurous fantasy world of GrimGrimoire and Odin Sphere. The plot is rather
simple, in which the player is tasked with retrieving the Dragon s Crown , a mythical item, while
controlling one of six hero characters (Riendeau,

Supply And Demand Factors Influencing The Physical Gold...
Introduction
Gold has been one of the valuable desires for the past thousands years. Its rarity, indestructibility and
malleability, enabled it to be the main interest to both, the individuals and businesses. As a result of
these properties, the exploration of gold has been of central significance .The intention of this study is
expand on many of the theories and notions concerning supply and demand factors influencing the
physical gold market.
The study of demand analysis is very essential for any entrepreneur because their main objective is to
maximise the profit with efficiently allocating the limited resources provided. The demand analysis
supports in enhancing output with systematically utilizing the resources as well as selling the output
for maximum profits (Chimoriya, 2015). It allows the entrepreneur to: forecast necessity and sales,
determine prices, decisions relating to profit.
To begin with, it will be very useful to look at the PEST Analysis where the gold market is analysed
from the 4 different points of view.
Political:
Government has a huge impact in the gold industry. It imposes royalties on gold mining, which affects
the competitiveness. Alongside, many policies set by the government restrict and control the supply
and demand for example hoarding and dishoarding the gold (Unknown, 2015). Firstly, in order to
encourage miners to mine more gold, the government hoards the gold. Secondly, when the demand for
gold increases

Organ Trafficking Research Paper
A Match Made In Your Abdomen As catchy and endearing as the title the matchmaker may seem, it
carries a darker meaning with it in today s discussion. Mr. Levy Izhak Rosenbaum, the matchmaker ,
was in the lucrative business of brokering the sale of kidneys to U.S. patients who were in dire need of
them. The matchmaker would purchase the kidneys from people from Israel at $10,000 U.S. dollars,
then resale them for a much higher and profitable price. Reports say that some may have been sold for
up to $160,000 U.S. dollars. This incredible case is the first reported organ trafficking one in the
United States. The alleged decade long scheme, exposed this week by an FBI sting, rocked the nation
s transplant industry. The charges, if true, would be the first documented case of organ trafficking in
the U.S., transplant experts said Friday. (Porter and Johnson, 2009). This operation, so to speak, was
not new and had been going on for many years prior to it s discovery. While this may ... Show more

The possibility of incompatible donors and receivers is a looming beast which not only wastes a good
organ, but can also harm the receiver. Sometimes in living donation, the blood groups of the donor
(person who is giving the organ) and recipient (person who is receiving the organ) don t match. In the
past, up to 30% of all potential living donor transplants were considered impossible due to blood
group and antibody incompatibilities. Recently however, it has become possible to transplant patients
in this situation using specialised techniques. Only a few centres routinely perform this in the UK.
(Guys and St. Thomas Hospital, 2017) While we may want to fool ourselves into thinking that the

The Kuiper Belt
More and more is being learned about the Kuiper Belt showing us that it is an interesting part of our
galaxy that may help us better understand how our solar system was formed. The existence of what
became known as the Kuiper Belt was first suggested by astronomer Kenneth Edgeworth in 1943. He
suggested that, comets and other larger bodies might exist past Neptune. Several years later in 1951,
astronomer Gerard Kuiper predicted the existence of icy objects that formed a belt just beyond the
orbit of Neptune. This became known as the Kuiper Belt or less commonly known as the Edgeworth
Kuiper Belt and is thought to contain objects leftover during the formation of our solar system. The
actual existence of the Kuiper Belt was not confirmed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since the discovery of the first large KBO, 1992QB1, in 1992 by Jane Luu and David Jewitt (jew it), a
few others have been identified. In 2004 using better telescopes, astronomers discovered another KBO
which they named Sedna. This was followed by discoveries in 2005 and 2008. In 2005 a KBO slightly
smaller than Pluto was identified and named Eris. It was the discovery of Eris which has its own moon
that led to Pluto being reclassified as a dwarf planet rather than the ninth planet in our solar system. In
2008 two more objects categorized as dwarf planets were discovered. One is named Makemake after
the Polynesian creation god and the other is named Haumea after the Hawaiian goddess of fertility and
childbirth. The distance from Earth and the small size of the objects in the Kuiper Belt make them
very difficult to see and study. To get a closer look at the objects, the first mission to the Kuiper Belt
was launched in 2006 by NASA. The New Horizons spacecraft had reached Pluto about 10 years later
in 2015 providing the first up close glimpse of a Kuiper belt object. The New Horizons spacecraft
continues to push further into the Kuiper Belt and information from this exploration is still being
analyzed.
The study of Kuiper Belt will likely continue to provide more information on how our solar system
was formed and its origins. The material in the Kuiper Belt are what s left over after the rocks, dust

Analysis of the Graduate Essay
The Graduate is a great example of a film where lens and camera choices were used effectively to
convey the director s point of view. It seemed like every choice made by the director Mike Nichols
director and the director of cinematography Bob Surtees was justified. The outcome of each shot
played an important role in shaping the message of the film. The cinematography of Bob Surtees is
very complicated and thoughtful but at the same time seems poetic and spontaneous.
All of Mrs. Robinson and Benjamin s scenes pass in a musically backed montage sequence, a segment
that uses rapid editing, special effects and music to present compressed narrative information. This
shows the endless pass of time. One scene is edited so that it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The image seems very flat. The viewer cannot focus on anything but the characters faces. The depth of
field and depth of focus are very small. One of the reasons why this scene was shot like that was
because of the rain. Mike Nichols wanted this scene to take place on a very rainy day. Of course no
one would ever think about waiting for real rain in Beverly Hills during the summer so they had to
create it by themselves. The crew set up a rainmaker over the car in which the actors were riding.
They shot from alongside and from in front using a 500 millimeter telephoto lens which threw the
background so far out of focus that it was impossible to tell whether it was pouring in the distance or
not. This was a great example of a practical use of lenses. The Graduate, however, was rich in many
experimental uses of the camera that were mainly chosen to more directly describe the characters state
of minds.
Thinking that confessing the truth to Elaine will solve everything, Benjamin makes a major
miscalculation. He rushes towards the house with Mrs. Robinson pursuing close behind. Here again,
the scene of Ben running towards the house was shot with a telephoto lens. This lens was chosen to
create an illusion that rain is present everywhere, not only over Ben s head. The use of the telephoto
lens and the movement of the camera created another very interesting effect. The moment when Ben is
running was shot from a farther distance. One can notice that the camera

Cornstarch Experiment
If an object is dropped into four compositions (100% water and 0% cornstarch, 75% water and 25%
cornstarch, 50% water and 50% cornstarch, and 25% water and 75% cornstarch), then the 25% water
and 75% cornstarch mixture will create the non Newtonian fluid with the highest level of viscosity
because the mixture is made of particles of cornstarch suspended in water, therefore, the more
particles there are, the harder it will be to shear the fluid. Data that was measured from this experiment
supports the stated hypothesis. Trial one provided insight to the experiment. For the control, the
marble took 0.4 seconds to drop from the pen ramp and into the water. The red composition (75%
water and 25% cornstarch) took a total of 0.61 seconds, the longest ... Show more content on

Out of the trials of the experiment, the hypothesis was predicting that the control would have the
shortest time, the red composition (75% Water, 25% Corn starch) would have the second shortest time,
the yellow mixture (50% Water and 50% Corn starch) would have the second longest time, and the
blue fluid (25% Water and 75% Corn starch) would have the longest time. In trial one, the results did
not behave in the predicted way because the red mixture took 0.05 seconds longer than the yellow
composition. Trials two and five behaved the way the hypothesis predicted. Similarly to trial one, in
trial four the red mixture took 0.11 seconds longer than the yellow. Finally, trial three showed that the
control took 0.07 seconds longer than the red composition. Needless to say, the 25% water and 75%
cornstarch fluid did have the data with the most time because the marble did not submerge within two
minutes. Continuing on, when the data was averaged together, the results became clear. The mean for
the control was 0.42 seconds, the 75% Water and 25% Cornstarch composition s average time was
0.47 seconds, and the 50% Water and 50% Cornstarch mixture s mean was 0.5 seconds (Appendix

The Civil War And Emancipation
The Civil War, at first, was about slavery; however, the meaning of the war began to change, and it
began to be associated with healing. There were actually two main visions of the Civil War, and Blight
calls these twin goals and competing interests. One was to deal with the negative impacts, which
brought about a sense of healing. The second was regarding the emancipation of slaves. One vision
was about healing, while the other was about justice, and Blight notes this in the prologue and states,
Americans faced an overwhelming task after the Civil War and emancipation: how to understand the
tangled relationship between two profound ideas healing and justice (Blight, Prologue, page 3). In
addition, in part two of Blight s video ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He states, We never found an adequate way in this society to put healing and justice in a historical
balance (Blight, online resource). Only one had to win over the other, and the winner was healing. He
also says the same in Chapter 1; he concludes, But the new nation awaiting rebirth also had the
thought of black equality on one side, the knowledge of sectional reunion on the other side, and no
muse yet in the middle holding their hands (Blight, Chapter 1, page 30). Again, Blight s argument is
that it probably never even was possible for there to exist a balance between healing and justice.
Blight states in the prologue, Defeated white southerners and black former slaves faced each other on
the ground, seeing and knowing the awful chasm between their experiences, unaware that any path
would lead to their reconciliation (Blight, Prologue, page 3). The sacrificing of racial justice was an
inevitable cost of attempts to reconcile between the north and the south. An example of that from
Chapter 22 in Bailey is the Ku Klux Klan. Numerous whites disliked the success that blacks were
experiencing, so they formed the Ku Klux Klan. Members of the society instilled fear into blacks in
order to prevent them from voting. They used extreme violence, which, by the 1890s, led to nearly the
disenfranchisement of all blacks. Basically, because attempts to forge reconciliation between the north

Jazz Has Been A Part Of American Culture Throughout History
Jazz has been a part of American culture throughout history that is still being explored today. Jazz has
a rich history that goes back many years. Jazz has also developed into many different styles that trace
to places all around the world. There have been many jazz musicians throughout the years. Jazz music
has a very complex, but good musical tune and instrumentation to it. Jazz had started, when musicians
came to New Orleans to play, most of the people that came to play were former slaves of African
descent. The African American people had traced their ancestry back to West Africa, and with this
knowledge they began to make a new kind of genre of music called jazz, based on ancient African
tribal music, that people in Africa had been ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Note that the transition from ragtime to jazz, was one of melodic style, harmony, and mentation,
though it involved a change of approach, swing being more purely improvisatory art (Louis 176).
Much of the total development of African pitch was based upon quarter tone scales quite beyond a half
tone unit, confusion about certain tones of the diatonic scale, particularly the third, fifth, and seventh,
resulted in the creation of the blues. Specific aspects of this evolving Negro music were represented at
first by folk blues, gospel music, spirituals, and stomps; later by boogie woogie, struts, rags, one step,
and finally jazz evolved. During this evolution one basic characteristic has always been there, a
fundamental pulse of quarter notes joined with a harmonic fabric moving in unit with half notes,
whole notes, etc (World of Music 200). The first combination of musical ideas to achieve popularity
among both blacks and whites was called ragtime. In its heyday, between 1896 and 1918, ragtime
overshadowed all other forms of popular music. The music was in the style of European popular song,
but with a ragged rhythm. It was usually played on solo piano, with a left hand setting down a steady
march beat accompaniment over which the right hand played a melody that was syncopated, with
stressed notes off the most important beats of the bar (The story of Music 42). Jazz of the 20th century

The Nervous System And Peripheral Nervous Systems
The nervous system has three general functions: a sensory function, an interpretative function and a
motor function. Sensory nerves gather information from inside the body and the outside environment.
The nerves then carry the information to central nervous system (CNS). Nervous tissue consists of two
main types of cells: neurons and neuroglia. Neurons also so known as nerve cells ) transmit nerve
impulses that move information around the body. Central Nervous System and Peripheral Nervous
System are Identified as the two major groups of nervous system organs while CNS = brain spinal
cord and PNS nerves that extend from the brain (cranial nerves) and spinal cord (spinal nerves).
Sensory receptors respond to stimuli and transmit data about them to the brain. In the skin, receptors
detect touch, pressure, vibration, temperature, and pain. Elsewhere in the body, more specialized
receptors detect light (see How the eye works), sound (see The mechanism of hearing), smell, and
taste. The body nervous system detects the changes affecting the body, make decisions, and stimulate
muscles or glands to respond. The responses counteract the effects of the changes, where the nervous
system helps maintain homeostasis. Neurons vary in size and shape and also differ in the lengths and
sizes because of their axons and dendrites. A neuron has 4 basic parts: the dendrites, the cell body
which is also called the soma, the axon and the axon terminal. Dendrites Extensions from the neuron

George Locke
Bishop George Berkeley was a philosopher from seventeenth century Ireland who is well known for
advancing the theory of immaterialism, now called subjective idealism. This theory holds that only
minds and the contents within them exist and that all sensation that we experience is directly attributed
to God. Berkeley hoped that this theory would lead to a greater dependence and trust in God, as He
would be the constant sustainer and provider in a way that traditional Christianity did not attribute
Him. There were and are many objection to Berkeley s doctrine, but one, in particular, stands above
the rest for its amusing tone. Dr. Samuel Johnson, a famous English man of letters, heard Berkeley s
theory and, in disgust, kicked a large stone ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Already, having agreed with Locke on his matter, he had lost faith in what his senses informed him
about the apple. However, he realized that one cannot perceive some qualities about the apple while
disregarding others. One cannot identify an apple s shape without also identifying it s color. In fact,
one cannot detect any primary qualities without also considering the secondary qualities. You cannot
attempt to see an apple without its color, it would simply be imagined as black, white, or opaque. If
one attempts to remove the apple s secondary qualities in an attempt to reach its primary qualities,
then you are left with no apple at all. Secondary qualities and primary qualities are inextricably
connected, it is impossible to have one without the other. This means that, if secondary qualities were
already proven to be untrustworthy, then therefore, primary qualities cannot be trusted either. The
bottom line is that we have no clear understanding of matter. Rather it s described negatively as inert,
senseless (incapable of sensing) substance, which has primary qualities, but qualities are sense
perceptions and it is contradictory to suppose that sense perceptions can exist unperceived (Tlumak,
178). This leads Berkeley to the startling conclusion that matter does not exist; there are only
perceptions and disembodied perceivers. As Berkley succinctly puts it, esse est percipi, to be is be

Jeremy Bentham And John Rawls s Approach To Utilitarianism
The idea in utilitarianism is that the moral worth of an action is determined solely by its value in
providing happiness or pleasure as summed among all conscious beings. It is a form of
consequentialism, meaning that the moral worth of any action is determined by its outcome. Thus the
utilitarian maxim: the greatest good for the greatest number. The largest contributors to utilitarianism
were Jeremy Bentham and John Stuart Mill. [1]
The objection that I am going to focus on in this essay is a broad one but also I believe the most
important and valid objection to the theory. The objection is that Utilitarianism ignores individuals and
individual rights.

Basically as that of an impartial, sympathetic spectator who imaginatively identifies with every other
member of the society thus conflating all their desires within one experience. [5] This allows the
society to balance individual needs and desires, gains and losses as if they were one individual. The
problem with this of course is that a society is not one individual person. This approach treats the
different individuals in a society as if they were of no more importance for ordering of society then the
different stages of an individual s life are for its ordering. But a society is composed of different and
distinctly individual persons, each with its own life to lead, goals, ambitions, points of view, desires
and so on. People cannot be simply cashed out for experience since boundaries between individuals
are of far greater importance and in fact define the very object of moral concern.
These objections were also raised by Thomas Nagel who claimed that utilitarianism treats the desires,
needs, satisfactions, and dissatisfactions of distinct persons as if they were of a super person or one
mass person [6] as well as David Gauthier who said utilitarianism supposes that mankind is a so called
super person, whose greatest satisfaction is the objective of moral action.

Jocasta as a Tragic Hero Essay

Upholding Jocasta as the Tragic Hero
What makes a tragic hero? Aristotle lays down groundwork of a tragic hero as being essentially good.
They are neither villain nor saint because they have flaws. Several elememts are nevcesary to have a
tragic hero, they are the tragic flaw, the reversal, recognition, and hubris. These generally make up the
story of the tragic hero, and in the case of Jocasta, the wife and mother of Oedipus in Sophocles
Oedipus the King, she posses all three. Yet she is not truly considered a tragic hero, but a tragic
character by many. However seeing as it is the character of Jocasta that sets the story in motion, and
she posses the qualities in a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because she thinks that she and Laius were able to avoid the prophecy, she gives little credence to
what the oracle says (Sophocles 1.1. 784 796). She respects the gods, but not the oracles. She tries to
lead Oedipus to adopt this standpoint as well, telling him of the prophecy told to Laius and herself,
and how that prophecy did not come to pass. After telling Oedipus that he need not worry about the
words of a prophet she tells him, Whatever the god needs and seeks he ll bring to light himself, with
ease. (Sophocles line 799 800). Later she goes to Apollo s temple and asks for his guidance, saying
that they are in the grip of fear, beseeching his help for Oedipus and saying, I come with prayers and
offerings...I beg you, cleanse us, set us free of defilement! (Sophocles line 1009 1010). She does not
yet realize that the defilement cannot be cleansed.
Hubris
Her only flaw is disregard for the prophets; she never disregards the gods themselves. Her disbelief in
them is sound, and she maintains her belief in the gods. In this way it is hubris, her overwhelming
pride or belief that she thwarted the earlier prophecy. It is still this flaw which is a part of her tragic
downfall.
The Reversal
Peripetia, or the reversal, is another element of the tragic hero. Such as when an action backfires on
the person, much the way that abandoning Oedipus

Tutankhamun s Death Mask Research Paper
Ancient Egypt is one of the most well known ancient civilisations and has an extremely deep history.
Tutankhamun s Death Mask is one of the most famous artefacts from ancient Egypt. This artefact was
discovered by Howard Carter in early November of 1922, although it was not dug up until the 26th of
November 1922. To a vital extent, the discovery of Tutankhamun s Death Mask has improved modern
understanding of ancient Egypt. The context, purpose and significance of Tutankhamun s death Mask
are strong points to understanding ancient Egypt.
Tutankhamun s tomb is located in the valley of kings. It was found by Howard Carter, one of the most
accomplished archaeologists (Cummins, n.d.). Howard stated as he entered the tomb at first, I could

The mask is used as a ritual mask commonly made for royal peoples who have died. They are made
for the comfort and guidance into the eternal afterlife (Alchin. 2017). Another reason it was made is to
reward the king for his accomplishments. Tutankhamun being the youngest King had accomplished
great things, so his peoples rewarded him with the mask. Tutankhamun achieved great things, he
turned Egyptian religion to Thebes, he restored the buildings, he put the Gods back into their place
and he utilized council well although he was only nine. (HRF, 2016). Carter himself read the word on
the walls of the tomb and they translated to the things Tutankhamun had done. This told us that
Tutankhamun was recognised by his fellow people, they had very different belief systems about
afterlife and they had similar recognition to people who have died. Therefore, the purpose of
Tutankhamun s is to thank him for ruling and guide him into eternal after

Media Representation Of Gay Characters In Tv Shows
Over the last few decades, our society went through a huge transformation in culture, politics and
media that no one else could have foreseen. There is an obvious increase in the acceptance of
homosexuality. Even though lesbian and gay people have gradually moved onto the stage in growing
numbers, there are still some problems exist in the ways that media perpetuate homosexual
stereotypes. According to an article by Chong suk Han, The subjective storytelling found in
journalistic pieces reinforces social inequalities by forstering such feelings of collective belonging
based on class, gender, sexual preference, subcultural lifestyle or whatever (Chong suk Han, 2008).
Nowadays, the media plays an important role in carrying and transforming the new cultural ideas
toward the whole society, few could ignore the existence of lesbian and gay people. In order to prevent
discriminating them from the other groups, more accurate representation of homosexuals should be
provide on the mainstream media. This content analysis paper will focus on analyzing the portrayal of
gay characters in TV shows. The subjects of this analysis are 10 characters from six recent TV shows I
specifically picked form ABC, FOX, CBS and the CW TV. Each of these shows has at least one gay
character that is important elements in the whole storyline. The reason why I picked these six shows is
that I watched every episode of all these shows and I believe my clear understanding of each

The Riverton Community Pool Is Located Just Off Of Forest Ave
The Riverton Community Pool is located just off of Forest Ave in Portland, and is attached to the
Riverton Community Center, including a library and gymnasium, and Riverton Elementary. The
facility features a large parking lot with plenty of spaces for both employees and patrons. After
entering the building, the location of the pool is not extremely clear; there are no signs directing
patrons to the pool area. The production space is well lit by lights that are around the pool (but not
above), and does not smell of overwhelming chlorine. The pool is 25 meters long with six lanes. The
pool also has a shallow and deep end, with the shallowest point being four feet deep, and the deepest
point being 13 ½ feet deep. The floor surrounding the pool is made of tile to prevent patrons from
slipping and falling when the floor is wet. The walls surrounding the building are made of
cinderblocks that were painted white. These types of walls tend to echo, so the ceiling and upper walls
are lined with sound panels to reduce the extra noise. The temperature of the water falls anywhere
between 80 and 83 degrees fahrenheit so patrons do not overheat when swimming. The air is also kept
around 83 degrees to help keep patrons warm when they exit the water. Unfortunately, a master plan

Ceo Succession
CEO SUCCESSION: THE ULTIMATE MEASURE OF BOARD PERFORMANCE
by Clarke Murphy, The Corporate Board July/August 2010
Item number one on any description of corporate board duties is hiring and firing of a chief executive.
However, success in CEO selection depends in large part on shaping a sound succession process from
the board level. Shareholder advocates now see good CEO succession planning as a reflection of the
quality of the board itself.
Public debate regarding corporate governance issues tends to focus on one primary topic at a time,
depending on the dictates of current events. Classified boards, overboarding, director compensation,
risk management the attention of the corporate governance community has been focused on each ...

Because it centers on an event thought to be in the distant future and whose timing is ill defined, it
lacks urgency compared with day to day tasks. There is little perceived cost to putting it off.
The inclination to put it off is exacerbated by the Pandora s box of issues that rigorous succession
planning forces a board to confront. Identifying the competencies and experiences needed in the next
CEO requires solidifying the company s long term strategic plan, which often involves the painful
elimination of options.
Succession planning also shines a bright light on how well the organization develops internal
candidates (something explicitly called for in the Whole Foods shareholder proposal). The
development of internal candidates in turn requires careful human capital management. Failure here
can set off a horse race, or prompt the loss or demotivation of those executives who are not being
considered for the top slot, but are valuable to the company. It also demands the establishment of
consistent and objective benchmarking that includes not only internal candidates, but appropriate
external candidates as well.
Finally, successful succession planning demands the right attitude from the incumbent CEO. The
naming of a successor is viewed by some as a personal prerogative, by others as a threat. Because
succession planning is a tangible manifestation of the limited tenure of any CEO, it is

Hong Kong With Our Newest Acquisition Yammer
In conclusion I recommend we expand to Hong Kong with our newest acquisition Yammer.
When we look at the financial health of the company and our current ratio is 2.50 meaning for every
dollar the company owes it has $2.50 of assets, and the quick ratio is 2.44. These are huge and strong
ratios and the main reason I know the company can expand its operations overseas with this new
product. The tax situation is Hong Kong is very attractive to all types of companies. The rates here in
the United States the company pays 27.1%, while in Hong Kong the tax rate is only 16%. This tax
saving alone has the ability to increase profits. The company s debt is very low as indicated by the
debt ratio of
.48, so fir every .48 cents the company owns $1.00 worth of assets. The company currently generates
.13cents in profit for every one dollar in profit. These ratios will go up with less of a tax burden. If we
take the 16% tax and apply it to gross profits we show a nice increase in net profit and all the financial
ratios go up respectively. This potential addition profit will benefit current and future shareholders
with elevated dividends and more retained earnings which we can use to finance other operations or
expand the operation that I am proposing.
I feel we can expand this potential operation after only 2 years. I feel that time frame will allow us the
opportunity to fine tune the Yammer product for the Pacific Rim, while still offering the existing
product for transplants in this

Going To Eat At Home Or Restaurants Essay
People all around the world are busy. Busy with school, work, and other extra activities. People find
that going out to a restaurant would be quicker and more convenient. The fact remains that people
have to eat, whether it be cooking at home or going out. Though cooking at home and eating out are
are completely different ways to eat, they could not be any more different in quality, portion, and cost.
When families eat at home, they know the ingredients that have been added to their meals and the
quality of the food. Moreover, they know the cleanliness of where the food has been prepared. At
home, they know if the person preparing has washed his/her hands. When going out to eat, the family
has no idea what happens in the kitchen. Their food could have been spit on, dropped, or even
possibly a hair from a cook could fall into their dish. The quality of food is important to the consumer,
due to if the food does not taste well, more than likely they will not eat it. Also, the restaurant serves
sometimes less quality than what you buy and less quantity. When going out to eat at a restaurant,
people prefer to recieve their money s worth in the food they order. That typically comes down to
portion sizes. as unhealthy as it is, most people do not know the proper portion and tend to eat the
entire meal that is presented to them. While, at home, when families cook the meal themselves, the
portions are smaller due to the recommended serving size of the meal. Most restaurants are guilty of
serving anywhere from double to triple a normal food portion. Portion control is an important part in
food. That makes it important to understand what a recommended serving size is for the food prepared
is, and only ordering that amount. When families prepare their meals at home, they are able to control
what goes on the plate, and what not to eat. Eating out at restaurants are typically portioned
excessively, and some dishes can contain an entire day s worth of calories.
It s hard to beat the convenience of going to a restaurant and having cooks prepare and serve the food
is relaxing and eliminates the hassle of having to cook dinner. On the other hand, there are many great
benefits of that cooking at home, such as price. The

Truth Commission Research Paper
A truth commission is a commission that is instated to reveal past misdoings of the public,
government, non state actors and the like; it is associated as typically the first step away from war or
authoritarian rule. As seen throughout case studies, these commissions arise for different purposes;
some truth commissions are what is chosen by the government to showcase breaches in human rights,
rather than other constructive peaceful mechanisms. Although, these commissions do suggests
recommendations (such as arrests, lustration, compensation and education), the country isn t always

It is easy to critique in an obscure view what the repercussions of a truth commission is doing wrong,
especially when not being immersed in the reinventing environments of which these truth
commissions take place. Truth commissions are hard to accomplish and can be argued to be infinitely
imperfect. Jamie Rowen pens in her chapter Truth in the Shadow of Justice, the difficulties involved in
truth seeking initiatives that adhere to the goals of transitional justice. Focusing on four different
organizations, she found that the findings suggests that, although [the organization] value
investigation, documentation and publicizing information, civil society organizations are focusing
their efforts on new strategies to publicize information (Rowen 136). When following the argument of
this paper, one would suspect disputes over if organizations should focus on improving the system of
truth commissions to further enhance and better the lives of civilians, truth commissions as well as
other truth seeking initiatives. However, the documentation for truth telling does just as it sounds.
Measures such as these would be beneficial to cases similar to that of Haiti and would improve the
basis of truth telling. Restorative justice comes after the fact. Of course, this is relatively new
information and cannot be implemented as of yet because of the limitations in

My Writing Traits
This year in English Language Arts I have learned many things that have improved my writing. The
Six Traits of Writing have been a big part in fulfilling my writing skills, with the main trait being
Sentence Fluency. Sentence fluency is basically how long your sentences are and how good your
transition words are. This trait has helped me try and keep my sentences short and sweet, but still
informative without repeating myself. Here is an example of my sentence fluency from the beginning
of the year from my All About Me essay: In my opinion, I believe everyone deserves happiness. If

One of the big ones I ve struggled with is word choice. I used to try to use big words to enhance my
writing and sound more formal, but I would use these words without a full understanding of the
meaning of the word. Another thing I would do is just use like too often, or use words very small that
didn t give very much description. As I have grown as a writer this year, I have learned multiple way
to get passed these obstacles. By searching up meanings of words I do not know as well I have gotten
better vocabulary, enhanced my writing, and got more detail and insight into my writings through one
word. One way I have tried to improve my little vocabulary is that when I revise my work, I find the
small words that include little detail or do not help the reader see the whole picture, and I look up

Saajan, who is going through grief from losing his wife, receives the lunchbox instead. They end up

The Effects of Nitrous Oxide Essay
During the 1700 s England was undergoing change and rejuvenation. The Queen had come to the

chemistry. During this period the demand for medical care was increasing as well as the need for
medical advances. Surgeries such as childbirth, teeth extractions, leg amputations, and even tumor
removal were being done in absence of any pain reliving substances. Many physicians and dentists

Myotonic Dystrophy Case Study
In this article, myotonic dystrophy, the most common inherited type of muscular dystrophy found in
adults, is discussed. This disease occurs one out of every eight thousand people and is said to get
increasingly worse as it is passed down from generation to generation. Myotonic dystrophy affects
people by making it to where they cannot relax their muscles after using them; for example, if
someone with this disease were to grip something, they would have a hard time releasing that object.
This hinderance in turn causes the muscles to become weak and waste away. This article examines
two different case studies in which two individuals, from the same family, are found to have this
muscular disease before symptoms of this actual disease occur. In the first case study, a thirty nine
year old woman visited her eye clinic for her regular checkup. During the examination, the doctor ...

The Theory Of Leonardo Da Vinci s Multiple Intelligence...
Gardner s Multiple Intelligence theory challenged traditional beliefs in the field of education and
cognitive science. He is a psychologist professor at Harvard University s Graduate School of
Education. According to a traditional definition, intelligence is a uniform cognitive capacity people are
born with. Simply put, intelligence is the ability to acquire and apply knowledge and skills. Gardner s
theory of Multiple Intelligences proposes that all human beings possess each of the nine intelligences
in varying amounts. In addition, he claims that these intelligences are located in different parts of the
brain which can work together or independent of each other, and that the multiple intelligences can be
strengthened or weakened depending how you treat each intelligence. The nine intelligences are as
follows:
Visual/Spatial People who are strong visually/spatially learn best when they are given material that is
organized spatially. They like to have physical models or to see what is being taught to understand.
They enjoy anything eye catching like charts, graphs, maps, tables, illustrations, art, or puzzles. A man
that immediately comes to mind that shows exceptional visual/spatial intelligence is Leonardo Da
Vinci (1452 1519), who not only was a great artist who created pieces such as the Mona Lisa and The
Last Supper, but also studied the anatomy of the human body. He sketched detailed diagrams of parts

Death And The King s Horseman Analysis

ENG 239

Prompt 1
In Wole Soyinka s play, Death and the King s Horseman, the English presence in Nigeria is well
established. As each scene goes by the audience can feel European colonialism lurking heavily in the
background. With this English influence on the Yoruba people the community is swept with
unsteadiness and conflict. The dominant events in Soyinka s play symbolize a larger conflict; although
the English believe they are shedding light and bringing progress to the Nigerians, the Nigerians don t
welcome these foreigners and only wish to continue their cultural ways in peace. Soyinka argues that
although the English believe what they are doing is necessary, they are the ones who are intruding on
someone else s culture and they should respect that, no matter how uncivilized or odd it may seem.
Not accepting and misunderstanding one another s culture is a leading conflict in this play. The Yoruba
community has very different beliefs on death compared to the English. When speaking of death,
Elesin states: When the hour comes watch me dance along the narrowing path gazed by the soles of
my great precursors. My soul is eager (Soyinka, 10). In contrast, Jane believes that this view is
nonsense. Life should never be thrown away deliberately (Soyinka, 42) The Yoruba community
celebrates death and welcomes the afterlife. While the English fear death. This misunderstanding and
lack of acceptance of cultural differences leads Pilkings to act on what he thinks is best, when it is not
what is best for the community.
Throughout the novel the Yoruba culture continually is disrespected by the colonists who invade their
community. In the play Pilkings and his wife Jane are dressed in egungun costumes which they
confiscated from cult leaders. Amusa pleads with Pilkings and Jane to take them off. They respond
saying You don t believe this nonsense do you? I thought you were a good Muslim. ( Soyinka, 19)
Jane and Pilkings are surprised that Amusa can still respect the Yoruba culture while believing in
something different. Amusa can t stand it any longer and leaves saying I treat egungun with respect
before running off ( Soyinka, 20). Amusa represents what Soyinka is

The Salem Witchcraft Trials In The Crucible By Authur Miller
Causes of the Salem Witchcraft Trials
The Crucible is a play written by Authur Miller that is based on the Salem Witch Trials but is partially
made up. The Trials were a series of events that happened from the spite of jealousy, interior motives,
fear, and religion. Two hundred people were accused of witchcraft and twenty were hanged for it. And
although there are many superstitions about what and why the events occurred, any are yet to be
confirmed. But we know for sure that they did not happen for good reasons. Twenty people died from
the manipulation and threatening of a seventeen year old girl, Abigail Williams. She committed
adultery with John Proctor, a man of prestige and honor. His wife fired her for this and Abby decided

The Shichi Go San and the Marimo Matsuri Festivals Essay
Fall is the time for letting go of the old ways and bringing in the new life. Autumn is also the period
where one harvests their desire to learn. Autumn is the time for departure but having already fulfilled
in wisdom and maturity. Fall is also the time to be thankful for all the things that occurred in your life.
In Japan, the fall festivals are a way for the people to pray and be thankful for the harvests. Some
festivals that occur in Japan during this time of the year are: Marimo Matsuri, Nada no Kenka Matsuri,
Sichi Go San, Tori no Ichi, and the Kawagoe Matsuri. To begin with, the Kawagoe Matsuri in the
Saitama prefecture occurs on the third Saturday and Sunday in October. The main attraction of this
festival is the floats that are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This festival goes on for a couple of days, beginning with a lecture on the algae on the first day. On
the second day, it is a celebration for the Marimo algae and a ceremony where one receives their own.
It is said that when one receives their marimo algae, they are also offering their appreciation to Mother
Nature. Next, the Nada no Kenka Matsuri is a celebration that occurs in the Hyogo prefecture from
October 14th to the 15th. This festival is also referred to as the Fighting Festival (hence the name
Kenka Matsuri). It is also referred to this name because men carrying the mikoshi (portable shrines)
are pushing against other groups of men. The Nada no Kenka Matsuri usually occurs at the Natsubara
Hachiman Shrine in the city of Himeji. During this occasion, there are no rules about bumping into
other shrines, so once another group has their shrine placed upon another, the contest is over. There
are usually three different groups who participate in this festival based on their age. The group with
the white headband consists of people from ages thirty five and up. The group with yellow headbands
contains people from twenty six to thirty five years of age. The last group, red headbands, has people
who are under the age

The Death Of Joseph Bradford
Joseph Bradford was born on October 16, 1924 in Covington, Kentucky. He was the son of a
shoemaker, and house painter Coleman Bradford and housewife Catherine Katie Kallage. He had one
other sibling Dorothy M. Bradford born 1921 she would later stay with the mother after Coleman
Bradford and Catherine Katie Kallage divorce. He and his parents moved to Arlington Heights in
Hamilton, Ohio. Sometime between the divorce of his parents, he and his father moved in with his
aunt. Between now and when he enlisted into the army there is no data as to what he did. Family
members do not recall hearing any stories from during these years. Once he stopped going to high
school he became an Office Machine Operator. On September 25, 1943 he enlisted in ... Show more

Before the Battle of Mortain was even in sight the 30th Infantry arrived in the United Kingdom in
February 1944. Their first attack would be the Normandy invasion on June 15th 1944 on Omaha
beach. It is unknown if Joseph participated in the invasion of Normandy but his division was most
certainly apart of the efforts carried out at the time. During this there was friendly fire on part of the
bombers flying overhead. This allowed the US armor to head south to Tessy after Operation Cobra
aka. St.Lo. After which on Aug. 6 1944 they (30th division) was rushed by truck to the Mortain St.
Barthelmy area to take over positions that had been manned by the reinforced First Infantry division.
Later that day without warning, four German panzer divisions attacked them. This is the day (August
6, 1944) in which Joseph Bradford was both injured and captured.
On the third day of the Battle of Mortain a German SS officer came up the hill under a white flag, and
gave Cpt. R.A. Kerley the ultimatum to surrender by 8pm that night of be destroyed... In reply Cpt.
Kerley said, Go to hell. I will surrender when every one of our bullets has been fired and every one of
our bayonets is sticking in a German belly. This shows the dedication to the war on this unit s part, and
it was vital because if the men had failed to hold the hill on which the Battle of Mortain was held on
the allied forces would have been split in two by the German forces. This could have undone the

Prayer In Public School Vs. Private Schools And Public...
Prayer in school is a controversial topic of today s time. There are different pros and cons when it
comes to bringing religion into schools. Varying from state to state the court s perspective has played a
major role in the decision of having prayer in schools, as well as the opinions of society.
Understanding that your personal opinion is not the same as everyone else s is important and others
may have different point of views. The controversial topics that give examples for each position
allows you to realize whether you agree or disagree. You could start out with a set opinion about it, but
after reading the different sides and stories it may change your mind. There is a difference in public
schools and private schools that practice prayer in school. If you sign your child up for a private
school and the handbook states that they allow prayer in school, then you cannot later go against it.
Public schools, on the other hand work for the government so anything they say goes. Private schools
are allowed more freedom and less restriction on prayer in school. The students in a private school pay
tuition, which funds the school. Private schools are known as independent schools, which means they
are non governmental and not administered by local, state or national government. Students are
allowed more freedom of religion and allowed to express their religious beliefs more openly(Prayer in
School Pros and Cons List, NYLN).
Public schools are ran and funded by the

Self Destruction Of Cocaine Essay
self destruction
By kevin j. pillard
With $85 billion in the worldwide sales, and 21 million users, cocaine is still one of the top drugs of
choice for many Americans. Even though the US market has fallen from the 1980 s crazy, $134 billion
in market sales, to the lowly $35 billion in sales in 2008, Americas thrust for THAT COCA is still a
major issue for the communities and societies as a whole, in 2015. In this paper, I am going to take
you on my journey and experiences with the cocaine epidemic of the 80 s, 90 s, and all the way to the
year 2015.
I think it s best to start with one of the thousands, of City, County, State, and Federal agencies, that as
of today will be spending $23 billion this year to fight the war on drugs.(MAP INC.) The DEA which
has a budget of 2.88 billion in 2015, is the one agency that only focuses on illegal federal drug laws,
which are the harshest in the country.
The DEA has 221 offices organized into 21 divisions throughout the United States, and the DEA has
86 offices in 67 countries around the world. (www.dea.gov) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This is a significant dent in the world s drug trafficker s pocket books. So based on these numbers the
DEA is doing its job and well worth the $2 billion budget. But, why do we even still need these types
of agencies after four decades and $1 trillion spent on what Richard Nixon called THE WAR ON
DRUGS. For this amount of money spent and 2.3 million men, and women, behind bar, which half of
those are there for violations of one, of the hundreds of drug laws throughout the US; we should have
won by now, or at least be

Comparing The Lone Ranger And Tonto Fistfight
How culture affects our views Today s culture changes how we behave and act. The Lone Ranger and
Tonto Fistfight in Heaven and A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings are excellent examples of this.
For example, in The Lone Ranger the narrator is stopped by the police as they said You re making
people nervous. You don t fit the profile of the neighborhood. (Alexie). Like the narrator in The Lone
Ranger both stores how someone s culture affects the way they act and think. Our culture changes how
we behave and react to everyday events. I will start by going through each story giving and explaining
examples and how they are related. The first short story I m going to talk about is The Lone Ranger
and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven. The first example of this is when the narrator is stopped by the police
and they said You re making people nervous. You don t fit the profile of the neighborhood. (Alexie).
Right after this the narrator is talking about how he is unable to fit into anywhere because of how the
culture views native Americans. This is an excellent example of how the culture around the narrator
has changed how he thinks about others within his culture. Another interesting event in The Lone
Ranger is when ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the cast of The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven it s when he shouts, and some cops
show up a few minutes later, in the case of A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings its when the
chicken coop is turned into an attraction. Both events show how both the angel and the narrator must
deal with the culture around them. Its not that angels found that people find his interesting or trapped
him within the chicken coop. However, in The Lone Ranger and Fistfight in Heaven the narrator tries
a different approach and starts to act how culture expect him to be unlike the angel that is confused all

The reason why this case was made was because the athletes that got a concussion the NCAA did not do anything about it, but now those players have medical problems and need some help. As of May 29, 2004 the NCAA and the U.S. Department of Defense are embarking on a landmark $30 million initiative to enhance the study of student athletes and service members (ncaa.org). Beside all the money that the NCAA gives to different studies they also award scholarships and grants. The NCAA awards more than $10 million in scholarships and grants annually to student athletes and member institution, in addition to the $2.4 billion allocated to schools to fund athletics scholarships ( NCAA.org). They are also providing $15 million in grant money over the next three years to fund a joint initiative with the U.S. Department of Defense. The mythological duke of Athens, on the eve of his wedding to the newly defeated Queen of the Amazons, is called upon by the mortal Egeus to settle a quarrel. Hermia, Egeus s vociferous daughter, refuses to marry the man her father has betrothed to her, the enamored Demetrius. Shakespeare s unique talent for creating poetry is effective in both establishing character and demonstrating the theme. The characters of the play all speak in poetic form with the exception of the English rustics who speak in prose. This helps to place the fairies and lovers on a higher, more transcendental plane than the artisans. Therefore, the artisans become more comical and lighten up the confusing comedy of love. The poetry of Shakespeare s genius also clarifies the play s theme of the extreme confusion and blinding powers of love. The rhythmic words help to create a magical setting of love while the rhymes portray the confusion each character feels while under the stupefying powers of love. Some optimists have compared love to a blissful dream, but Shakespeare s clever intrigue shows what a confusing nightmare love can be. As the audience ponders the revelry they have just seen as the play comes to a close, Puck steps forth to conclude the confusion: If we shadows have offended Think but this, and all is mended That you have but slumb red here While these visions did appear And this weak and idle theme No more yielding than a dream. The audience is left in as much ambiguity as felt throughout the performance, appropriately ending the play in a puzzling state of confusion. The theme of night activities dreams and sleep runs throughout the play. The majority of the plot takes place at night, even the rehearsal for the farcical play. All the ... An author named Michael Burke; a writer for the Wall Street Journal, writes to persuade wealthy people who have a strong influence on the daily world to recognize a problem that happens yearly on a single date.9/11. First responders or better known as the heros of 9/11 were sent to a different location to watch their own ceremony at ground zero, all while congressmen sit and take their seats at the real ceremony. This all arises due to the upcoming 10th anniversary of 9/11. He builds his argument through the use of organization and pathos. First and foremost, it was thought that Mr. Burke would never get his his point across. This is what makes his organization so important. Burke drags his thesis out to three quarter of the article at a point which he switch his focus to the real point at hand. For weeks ordinary New Yorkers and visitors from out of town attended there hundreds of memorial services across the city and area suburbs... Fifth Avenue New York s main street came to a halt Right after the horrific event people everywhere were mourning the loss of thousands including the lives of first responders. This quote or changing point marks the start of the real point of the article. To this day it should be assumed that they would be honored at ground zero at a memorial yearly to thank them for their sacrifices and thank the families of the ones who made the ultimate sacrifice. It will reference an article found on an online journalistic website called Polygon. The article is titled Dragons Crown Review: Heavy Metal , written by Danielle Riendeau. It is a review of a video game which was critiqued due to over sexualized female character designs. In spite of Dragon s Crown being a very well crafted game, this article became one of the most popular artifacts associated with it. Sexism within the gaming industry is one of the many topics of debate which prevent the medium from reaching a sophisticated status within society. While it is often debated that the male figure is also exaggerated within these cultures, this essay will predominantly look at the depiction of women in it. This next section is dedicated to introducing the article Dragon s Crown Review: Heavy Metal by Danielle Riendeau, posted on the Polygon journalistic website on the 31st of July 2013. As expected, this article is a review of the video game Dragon s Crown , published twenty days after the game s release. The article begins with the following subtitle: Swords and sorcery and cleavage abound in Dragon s Crown , continuing to state that Dragon s Crown is a fantasy obsessed teenage boy s dream: crazy, violent and full of impossibly large breasts (Riendeau, 2013). As stipulated by the article itself, Dragon s Crown was developed by Vanillaware and published by Atlus, both of which are Japanese organizations. It is a two dimensional Brawler with Role Playing elements set in an adventurous fantasy world of GrimGrimoire and Odin Sphere. • 6. Supply And Demand Factors Influencing The Physical Gold... Introduction Gold has been one of the valuable desires for the past thousands years. Its rarity, indestructibility and malleability, enabled it to be the main interest to both, the individuals and businesses. As a result of these properties, the exploration of gold has been of central significance .The intention of this study is expand on many of the theories and notions concerning supply and demand factors influencing the physical gold market. The study of demand analysis is very essential for any entrepreneur because their main objective is to maximise the profit with efficiently allocating the limited resources provided. The demand analysis supports in enhancing output with systematically utilizing the resources as well as selling the output for maximum profits (Chimoriya, 2015). It allows the entrepreneur to: forecast necessity and sales, determine prices, decisions relating to profit. To begin with, it will be very useful to look at the PEST Analysis where the gold market is analysed from the 4 different points of view. Political: Government has a huge impact in the gold industry. It imposes royalties on gold mining, which affects the competitiveness. Alongside, many policies set by the government restrict and control the supply and demand for example hoarding and dishoarding the gold (Unknown, 2015). Mr. Levy Izhak Rosenbaum, the matchmaker , was in the lucrative business of brokering the sale of kidneys to U.S. patients who were in dire need of them. The matchmaker would purchase the kidneys from people from Israel at $10,000 U.S. dollars, then resale them for a much higher and profitable price. Reports say that some may have been sold for up to $160,000 U.S. dollars. This incredible case is the first reported organ trafficking one in the United States. The alleged decade long scheme, exposed this week by an FBI sting, rocked the nation s transplant industry. The charges, if true, would be the first documented case of organ trafficking in the U.S., transplant experts said Friday. (Porter and Johnson, 2009). The existence of what became known as the Kuiper Belt was first suggested by astronomer Kenneth Edgeworth in 1943. He suggested that, comets and other larger bodies might exist past Neptune. Several years later in 1951, astronomer Gerard Kuiper predicted the existence of icy objects that formed a belt just beyond the orbit of Neptune. In 2005 a KBO slightly smaller than Pluto was identified and named Eris. It was the discovery of Eris which has its own moon that led to Pluto being reclassified as a dwarf planet rather than the ninth planet in our solar system. In 2008 two more objects categorized as dwarf planets were discovered. One is named Makemake after the Polynesian creation god and the other is named Haumea after the Hawaiian goddess of fertility and childbirth. The distance from Earth and the small size of the objects in the Kuiper Belt make them very difficult to see and study. It seemed like every choice made by the director Mike Nichols director and the director of cinematography Bob Surtees was justified. The outcome of each shot played an important role in shaping the message of the film. The cinematography of Bob Surtees is very complicated and thoughtful but at the same time seems poetic and spontaneous. The viewer cannot focus on anything but the characters faces. The depth of field and depth of focus are very small. One of the reasons why this scene was shot like that was because of the rain. Mike Nichols wanted this scene to take place on a very rainy day. Of course no one would ever think about waiting for real rain in Beverly Hills during the summer so they had to create it by themselves. The crew set up a rainmaker over the car in which the actors were riding. They shot from alongside and from in front using a 500 millimeter telephoto lens which threw the background so far out of focus that it was impossible to tell whether it was pouring in the distance or not. This was a great example of a practical use of lenses. The Graduate, however, was rich in many experimental uses of the camera that were mainly chosen to more directly describe the characters state of minds. Thinking that confessing the truth to Elaine will solve everything, Benjamin makes a major miscalculation. He rushes towards the house with Mrs. Robinson pursuing close behind. Here again, the scene of Ben running towards the house was shot with a telephoto lens. This lens was chosen to create an illusion that rain is present everywhere, not only over Ben s head. The use of the telephoto lens and the movement of the camera created another very interesting effect. The moment when Ben is running was shot from a farther distance. Data that was measured from this experiment supports the stated hypothesis. Trial one provided insight to the experiment. There were actually two main visions of the Civil War, and Blight calls these twin goals and competing interests. One was to deal with the negative impacts, which brought about a sense of healing. The second was regarding the emancipation of slaves. One vision was about healing, while the other was about justice, and Blight notes this in the prologue and states, Americans faced an overwhelming task after the Civil War and emancipation: how to understand the tangled relationship between two profound ideas healing and justice (Blight, Prologue, page 3). Again, Blight s argument is that it probably never even was possible for there to exist a balance between healing and justice. Blight states in the prologue, Defeated white southerners and black former slaves faced each other on the ground, seeing and knowing the awful chasm between their experiences, unaware that any path would lead to their reconciliation (Blight, Prologue, page 3). The sacrificing of racial justice was an inevitable cost of attempts to reconcile between the north and the south. An example of that from Chapter 22 in Bailey is the Ku Klux Klan. Numerous whites disliked the success that blacks were experiencing, so they formed the Ku Klux Klan. Members of the society instilled fear into blacks in order to prevent them from voting. Jazz had started, when musicians came to New Orleans to play, most of the people that came to play were former slaves of African descent. Note that the transition from ragtime to jazz, was one of melodic style, harmony, and mentation, though it involved a change of approach, swing being more purely improvisatory art (Louis 176). Much of the total development of African pitch was based upon quarter tone scales quite beyond a half tone unit, confusion about certain tones of the diatonic scale, particularly the third, fifth, and seventh, resulted in the creation of the blues. Specific aspects of this evolving Negro music were represented at first by folk blues, gospel music, spirituals, and stomps; later by boogie woogie, struts, rags, one step, and finally jazz evolved. During this evolution one basic characteristic has always been there, a fundamental pulse of quarter notes joined with a harmonic fabric moving in unit with half notes, whole notes, etc (World of Music 200). The first combination of musical ideas to achieve popularity among both blacks and whites was called ragtime. In its heyday, between 1896 and 1918, ragtime overshadowed all other forms of popular music. The music was in the style of European popular song, but with a ragged rhythm. It was usually played on solo piano, with a left hand setting down a steady march beat accompaniment over which the right hand played a melody that was syncopated, with stressed notes off the most important beats of the bar (The story of Music 42). • 15. The Nervous System And Peripheral Nervous Systems The nervous system has three general functions: a sensory function, an interpretative function and a motor function. Sensory nerves gather information from inside the body and the outside environment. The nerves then carry the information to central nervous system (CNS). Nervous tissue consists of two main types of cells: neurons and neuroglia. Neurons also so known as nerve cells ) transmit nerve impulses that move information around the body. Central Nervous System and Peripheral Nervous System are Identified as the two major groups of nervous system organs while CNS = brain spinal cord and PNS nerves that extend from the brain (cranial nerves) and spinal cord (spinal nerves). Sensory receptors respond to stimuli and transmit data about them to the brain. In the skin, receptors detect touch, pressure, vibration, temperature, and pain. Elsewhere in the body, more specialized receptors detect light (see How the eye works), sound (see The mechanism of hearing), smell, and taste. The body nervous system detects the changes affecting the body, make decisions, and stimulate muscles or glands to respond. The responses counteract the effects of the changes, where the nervous system helps maintain homeostasis. This theory holds that only minds and the contents within them exist and that all sensation that we experience is directly attributed to God. Berkeley hoped that this theory would lead to a greater dependence and trust in God, as He would be the constant sustainer and provider in a way that traditional Christianity did not attribute Him. Already, having agreed with Locke on his matter, he had lost faith in what his senses informed him about the apple. However, he realized that one cannot perceive some qualities about the apple while disregarding others. One cannot identify an apple s shape without also identifying it s color. In fact, one cannot detect any primary qualities without also considering the secondary qualities. You cannot attempt to see an apple without its color, it would simply be imagined as black, white, or opaque. If one attempts to remove the apple s secondary qualities in an attempt to reach its primary qualities, then you are left with no apple at all. Secondary qualities and primary qualities are inextricably connected, it is impossible to have one without the other. This means that, if secondary qualities were already proven to be untrustworthy, then therefore, primary qualities cannot be trusted either. The bottom line is that we have no clear understanding of matter. Rather it s described negatively as inert, senseless (incapable of sensing) substance, which has primary qualities, but qualities are sense perceptions and it is contradictory to suppose that sense perceptions can exist unperceived (Tlumak, 178). This leads Berkeley to the startling conclusion that matter does not exist; there are only perceptions and disembodied perceivers. As Berkley succinctly puts it, esse est percipi, to be is be ... It is a form of consequentialism, meaning that the moral worth of any action is determined by its outcome. Thus the utilitarian maxim: the greatest good for the greatest number. The largest contributors to utilitarianism were Jeremy Bentham and John Stuart Mill. [5] This allows the society to balance individual needs and desires, gains and losses as if they were one individual. The problem with this of course is that a society is not one individual person. This approach treats the different individuals in a society as if they were of no more importance for ordering of society then the different stages of an individual s life are for its ordering. But a society is composed of different and distinctly individual persons, each with its own life to lead, goals, ambitions, points of view, desires and so on. People cannot be simply cashed out for experience since boundaries between individuals are of far greater importance and in fact define the very object of moral concern. These objections were also raised by Thomas Nagel who claimed that utilitarianism treats the desires, needs, satisfactions, and dissatisfactions of distinct persons as if they were of a super person or one mass person [6] as well as David Gauthier who said utilitarianism supposes that mankind is a so called super person, whose greatest satisfaction is the objective of moral action. ... Parallelism In Psalm 1 Initially, Psalm 1 first begins with blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers (Psalm 1, New International Version). Furthermore, after analyzing the passage I have determined the type of Hebrew parallelism this passage exhibits is synthetic or formal parallelism. Therefore, synthetic or formal parallelism is defined as nonparallel text, where the second line of the text contributes to the first line (Tullock McEntire, 2012, p. 190). Consequently, the main theme of the passage is to identify how the believers of the Lord blessed, or how to achieve divinity while avoiding the doubters of God. Aristotle lays down groundwork of a tragic hero as being essentially good. They are neither villain nor saint because they have flaws. Several elememts are nevcesary to have a tragic hero, they are the tragic flaw, the reversal, recognition, and hubris. These generally make up the story of the tragic hero, and in the case of Jocasta, the wife and mother of Oedipus in Sophocles Oedipus the King, she posses all three. Yet she is not truly considered a tragic hero, but a tragic character by many. However seeing as it is the character of Jocasta that sets the story in motion, and she posses the qualities in a ... She respects the gods, but not the oracles. She tries to lead Oedipus to adopt this standpoint as well, telling him of the prophecy told to Laius and herself, and how that prophecy did not come to pass. After telling Oedipus that he need not worry about the words of a prophet she tells him, Whatever the god needs and seeks he ll bring to light himself, with ease. (Sophocles line 799 800). Later she goes to Apollo s temple and asks for his guidance, saying that they are in the grip of fear, beseeching his help for Oedipus and saying, I come with prayers and offerings...I beg you, cleanse us, set us free of defilement! (Sophocles line 1009 1010). She does not yet realize that the defilement cannot be cleansed. Hubris Her only flaw is disregard for the prophets; she never disregards the gods themselves. Her disbelief in them is sound, and she maintains her belief in the gods. In this way it is hubris, her overwhelming pride or belief that she thwarted the earlier prophecy. It is still this flaw which is a part of her tragic downfall. The Reversal Peripetia, or the reversal, is another element of the tragic hero. After entering the building, the location of the pool is not extremely clear; there are no signs directing patrons to the pool area. Shareholder advocates now see good CEO succession planning as a reflection of the quality of the board itself. Because it centers on an event thought to be in the distant future and whose timing is ill defined, it lacks urgency compared with day to day tasks. There is little perceived cost to putting it off. The inclination to put it off is exacerbated by the Pandora s box of issues that rigorous succession planning forces a board to confront. Identifying the competencies and experiences needed in the next CEO requires solidifying the company s long term strategic plan, which often involves the painful elimination of options. Succession planning also shines a bright light on how well the organization develops internal candidates (something explicitly called for in the Whole Foods shareholder proposal). The development of internal candidates in turn requires careful human capital management. Failure here can set off a horse race, or prompt the loss or demotivation of those executives who are not being considered for the top slot, but are valuable to the company. It also demands the establishment of consistent and objective benchmarking that includes not only internal candidates, but appropriate external candidates as well. Finally, successful succession planning demands the right attitude from the incumbent CEO. The naming of a successor is viewed by some as a personal prerogative, by others as a threat. When we look at the financial health of the company and our current ratio is 2.50 meaning for every dollar the company owes it has $2.50 of assets, and the quick ratio is 2.44. These are huge and strong ratios and the main reason I know the company can expand its operations overseas with this new product. The tax situation is Hong Kong is very attractive to all types of companies. The rates here in the United States the company pays 27.1%, while in Hong Kong the tax rate is only 16%. This tax saving alone has the ability to increase profits. The company s debt is very low as indicated by the debt ratio of .48, so fir every .48 cents the company owns $1.00 worth of assets. The company currently generates .13cents in profit for every one dollar in profit. These ratios will go up with less of a tax burden. If we take the 16% tax and apply it to gross profits we show a nice increase in net profit and all the financial ratios go up respectively. This potential addition profit will benefit current and future shareholders with elevated dividends and more retained earnings which we can use to finance other operations or expand the operation that I am proposing. I feel we can expand this potential operation after only 2 years. • 30. Going To Eat At Home Or Restaurants Essay People all around the world are busy. Busy with school, work, and other extra activities. People find that going out to a restaurant would be quicker and more convenient. The fact remains that people have to eat, whether it be cooking at home or going out. Though cooking at home and eating out are are completely different ways to eat, they could not be any more different in quality, portion, and cost. When families eat at home, they know the ingredients that have been added to their meals and the quality of the food. Moreover, they know the cleanliness of where the food has been prepared. At home, they know if the person preparing has washed his/her hands. When going out to eat, the family has no idea what happens in the kitchen. Their food could have been spit on, dropped, or even possibly a hair from a cook could fall into their dish. The quality of food is important to the consumer, due to if the food does not taste well, more than likely they will not eat it. Also, the restaurant serves sometimes less quality than what you buy and less quantity. When going out to eat at a restaurant, people prefer to recieve their money s worth in the food they order. That typically comes down to portion sizes. as unhealthy as it is, most people do not know the proper portion and tend to eat the entire meal that is presented to them. While, at home, when families cook the meal themselves, the portions are smaller due to the recommended serving size of the meal. Most restaurants are guilty of serving anywhere from double to triple a normal food portion. Portion control is an important part in food. That makes it important to understand what a recommended serving size is for the food prepared is, and only ordering that amount. When families prepare their meals at home, they are able to control what goes on the plate, and what not to eat. Eating out at restaurants are typically portioned excessively, and some dishes can contain an entire day s worth of calories. It s hard to beat the convenience of going to a restaurant and having cooks prepare and serve the food is relaxing and eliminates the hassle of having to cook dinner. On the other hand, there are many great benefits of that cooking at home, such as price. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He is a psychologist professor at Harvard University s Graduate School of Education. According to a traditional definition, intelligence is a uniform cognitive capacity people are born with. Simply put, intelligence is the ability to acquire and apply knowledge and skills. Gardner s theory of Multiple Intelligences proposes that all human beings possess each of the nine intelligences in varying amounts. In addition, he claims that these intelligences are located in different parts of the brain which can work together or independent of each other, and that the multiple intelligences can be strengthened or weakened depending how you treat each intelligence. The nine intelligences are as follows: Visual/Spatial People who are strong visually/spatially learn best when they are given material that is organized spatially. They like to have physical models or to see what is being taught to understand. They enjoy anything eye catching like charts, graphs, maps, tables, illustrations, art, or puzzles. • 39. Death And The King s Horseman Analysis Sarah Goodson Dr. Babcock ENG 239 28 September 2017 Prompt 1 In Wole Soyinka s play, Death and the King s Horseman, the English presence in Nigeria is well established. As each scene goes by the audience can feel European colonialism lurking heavily in the background. With this English influence on the Yoruba people the community is swept with unsteadiness and conflict. The dominant events in Soyinka s play symbolize a larger conflict; although the English believe they are shedding light and bringing progress to the Nigerians, the Nigerians don t welcome these foreigners and only wish to continue their cultural ways in peace. Soyinka argues that although the English believe what they are doing is necessary, they are the ones who are intruding on someone else s culture and they should respect that, no matter how uncivilized or odd it may seem. Not accepting and misunderstanding one another s culture is a leading conflict in this play. The Yoruba community has very different beliefs on death compared to the English. When speaking of death, Elesin states: When the hour comes watch me dance along the narrowing path gazed by the soles of my great precursors. My soul is eager (Soyinka, 10). In contrast, Jane believes that this view is nonsense. Life should never be thrown away deliberately (Soyinka, 42) The Yoruba community celebrates death and welcomes the afterlife. While the English fear death. This misunderstanding and lack of acceptance of cultural differences leads Pilkings to act on what he thinks is best, when it is not what is best for the community. Throughout the novel the Yoruba culture continually is disrespected by the colonists who invade their community. In the play Pilkings and his wife Jane are dressed in egungun costumes which they confiscated from cult leaders. Amusa pleads with Pilkings and Jane to take them off. They respond saying You don t believe this nonsense do you? I thought you were a good Muslim. ( Soyinka, 19) Jane and Pilkings are surprised that Amusa can still respect the Yoruba culture while believing in something different. Amusa can t stand it any longer and leaves saying I treat egungun with respect before running off ( Soyinka, 20). Amusa represents what Soyinka is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 44. Self Destruction Of Cocaine Essay self destruction By kevin j. pillard With $85 billion in the worldwide sales, and 21 million users, cocaine is still one of the top drugs of choice for many Americans. Even though the US market has fallen from the 1980 s crazy, $134 billion in market sales, to the lowly $35 billion in sales in 2008, Americas thrust for THAT COCA is still a major issue for the communities and societies as a whole, in 2015. In this paper, I am going to take you on my journey and experiences with the cocaine epidemic of the 80 s, 90 s, and all the way to the year 2015. I think it s best to start with one of the thousands, of City, County, State, and Federal agencies, that as of today will be spending $23 billion this year to fight the war on drugs.(MAP INC.) The DEA which has a budget of 2.88 billion in 2015, is the one agency that only focuses on illegal federal drug laws, which are the harshest in the country. For this amount of money spent and 2.3 million men, and women, behind bar, which half of those are there for violations of one, of the hundreds of drug laws throughout the US; we should have won by now, or at least be ... • 45. Comparing The Lone Ranger And Tonto Fistfight How culture affects our views Today s culture changes how we behave and act. The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven and A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings are excellent examples of this. For example, in The Lone Ranger the narrator is stopped by the police as they said You re making people nervous. You don t fit the profile of the neighborhood. (Alexie). Like the narrator in The Lone Ranger both stores how someone s culture affects the way they act and think. Our culture changes how we behave and react to everyday events. I will start by going through each story giving and explaining examples and how they are related. The first short story I m going to talk about is The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven. The first example of this is when the narrator is stopped by the police and they said You re making people nervous. You don t fit the profile of the neighborhood. (Alexie). Right after this the narrator is talking about how he is unable to fit into anywhere because of how the culture views native Americans. This is an excellent example of how the culture around the narrator has changed how he thinks about others within his culture. Another interesting event in The Lone Ranger is when ...
