Chris Mccandless Narcissism
Chris McCandless traveled to Alaska in April of 1992 for isolation from society, and unfortunately
died in Fairbanks Bus 142 in August of 1992. His death is not what angers readers, but his lack of
preparation and arrogance about the wilderness is what proves his reckless narcissism . His selfishness
to not abide by his parent s wishes for college and a decent job, his unpreparedness for wilderness
survival, and his manipulation and lack of empathy for others is why readers believe he is a reckless
narcissist . However, many people see him as a noble idealist for leaving society and all its amenities
to live out his dream of in the wild.
The McCandless wanted one thing from their son, to go to college and succeed. McCandless did not
want to do this and adamantly refused to live by his parents wishes. Before he went to college, he
went on a cross country trip in his yellow Datsun and came back in time for school. Throughout his
time at Emory, McCandless hatred of his parents grew and he became more radical in his ideas. His
parents became worried, but McCandless did not acknowledge their help. He continued to hate them
despite their attempts to aid him. McCandless is similar to Holden Caulfield from The Catcher in the
Rye. Although he did not rebel against his parents, he rebelled against society s rules. McCandless
rebelled from his parents rules. Although Krakauer portrays McCandless as a person everybody
admired and loved, but Wayne Westerberg commented that what

The Impossibility Of Religious Freedom
The act of defining religion has been a contentious issue in a wide variety of situations, particularly in
the United States. The US is a nation that prides itself on religious inclusivity and freedom. There are
consequences to this belief and tenant. Through the social, legal and moral structures of the United
States, defining religion has become imperative. In The Impossibility of Religious Freedom, Winifred
Sullivan outlines the legal implications of defining religion in the United States. In order for religious
freedom to be protected by the American state, religion must be clearly defined. As a result, religious
theory must be used to maintain some semblance of religious freedom in the United States. Likewise,

While there are specificities of the case that can help determine the individualized outcome of this
particular case, the foundations of the legal problems in the case can be expanded to greater problems
of religious definition in the United States. As shown through The Impossibility of Religious
Freedom, religious theory is vital to the continuation of religious freedom protections, for better or
worse, in the United States. The case that is highlighted by Sullivan revolves around the ability for
citizens to use religious items around burial sites that extend beyond the city of Boca Raton s
regulatory codes. When some of these religious items around the burial sites were not permitted by the
city, a group of citizens sued the city on the grounds that the city was preventing actions protected by
the religious freedom clauses of the US Constitution. This case, like many others involving religious
freedom decisions, required a real definition of religion. Religious theory was imperative to the
outcome of this case. Sullivan writes, If religion was whatever anyone said it was, the statute was
unworkable and [Judge Ryskamp] did not feel it was his place to simply dismiss an act of the Florida
legislature as nonsense. Religion therefore had to be measured and bounded by an expert test...
(Sullivan 105). These tests were determined by various religious scholars, including Sullivan, that
testified in this case. Religious theory,

Hitchhiker s Guide To The Future
World renowned science fiction author, Isaac Asimov, stated, Today s science fiction is tomorrow s
science fact. This quote rings very true in the sense that science fiction grants us the power to predict
the future. Through these fictitious texts, we gain valuable insight into significant issues and matters
both known and unknown. Although upon original release, these texts remain a mere glimpse into
seemingly impossible technologies and societies, the true beauty of the genre, is that over time, we can
see a definite parallel between the predictions made by authors and reality. In Douglas Adams The
Hitchhiker s Guide to the Galaxy, this is exemplified through implications of corporate greed,
advanced technologies and bureaucratic societies ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Panama Canal Between 1904 And 1914
1502, Panama was explored and discovered by Columbus and then later on by Balboa in 1513. In the
16th Century, Panama was probed by Spain and Spanish became its official language. In 1821,
Panama joined the Republic of Gran Colombia; a joint union of Colombia, Ecuador, and Venezuela. In
the colonial days, to be able to import and export goods between South and Central America, they

Impact Of The Scottish Independent Movement
Impact of the Scottish Independent Movement The United Kingdom has always been an ardent
opponent of constitutional reform. In fact the very fact that through nearly a millennia they have
refused to produce their constitution in a formal written structure reiterates that sentiment. And
although the undercurrent of maintaining certain traditional and cultural norms remains strong, the
national government has on frequent occasion had to accept the often frequent and ill fated changes
within the local government. Throughout history the lion s share of these local changes have revolved
around the relationship between the formerly autonomous countries of Wales, Scotland, and Ireland.
But a comprehensive analysis of these complicated relationships requires a much more lengthy
background. As a result this paper will attempt to analyze the proposition of transfer of power in
greater part to the local government of Scotland within the context of the last decades of the 20th
century into the first decade of the 21st. A modern approach to the increasing separation of Scotland
and England can been seen beginning with the Labour Party during the 1970 s. The indecision and
hesitation with respect to reform was epitomized in the bold and determined proposal of the 1974
Labour government decentralization and transfer of power for Wales and Scotland. The policy was an
ill fated one largely in part to the internal divisions of the Labour party during this epoch. Fortunately

Analysis Of The Movie The 1991 Beating Of Rodney King
The 1991 beating of Rodney King by Los Angeles police provides rich case material in how an attack
perceived as unjust can backfire. George H. W. Bush said, The last thing the leaders of Los Angeles
expected in the early 1990s was that their city would become the scene of the nation s deadliest urban
race riot since the Civil War. The race riot that Mr. Bush is referencing are the Los Angeles race riots
that occurred as a result of Rodney King s arrest in 1991 exemplified the deep tensions between black
citizens and the police force which caused a change in police policy. Rodney King at the age of twenty
two was on parole for beating his girlfriend while she was sleeping. King then went on to drag her
outside the house and beat her again. King was charged with battery and pleaded no contest. He was
then placed on probation and ordered to obtain counseling. He never got the counseling. Weeks pass
and one day King enters a corner store with a tire iron. King, swinging a tire iron, ordered a
convenience store clerk to empty the cash register. The clerk grabbed the tire iron, causing King to fall
backwards and knock over a pie rack. King swung the rack at the clerk and fled the store with two
hundred dollars. King was arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon, second degree
robbery, and intent to commit great bodily injury. In an agreement, King pleaded guilty to the robbery
charge and the other charges were dropped. He was sentenced to two years in prison,

The Negative Effects Of Violence In Television And Mass...
With 59 dead and 527 injured, the Las Vegas shooting earlier this month was one of the deadliest mass
shootings in American history. With no immediately apparent motive, it begs the question in people as
to what might possess a person to go out and commit such a heinous crime. Indeed, the question has
dogged the American populace ever since the invention of the modern mass shooting, and even before,
attached to other senseless violent atrocities. Human brains are wired to look for causality in
meaningless events as a survival mechanism, so they have a tendency to find it in places where it
actually never existed in the first place. This is why violence in television and video games has come
under fire in recent years as their influence expands, despite evidence that such phony violence does
not beget real violence and may, in fact, be beneficial to a person s well being.
Firstly, it should be noted that the studies people often cite when attempting to prove media violence
has negative effects on behavior are flawed and inconsistent. In a review of publications on the subject
conducted by psychologist Jonathan L. Freedman, he found that of the 2,500 publications, there were
only 200 pieces of non duplicated research among them, stemming from places of varying scientific
legitimacy. The ways in which many of these studies are conducted can lead to skewed results in favor
of the hypothesis the researchers want to prove. When studying how violent media consumption

The Birth Control Pill And The Sexual Revolution
Imagine a country with no sexual freedom, a limiting amount of rights, and no power for American
women. This was the image that the United States portrayed around 60 years ago, not giving the same
freedom that Americans can have today and express carelessly. During the 1960 s the United States
experienced changes in its society that would affect the perspectives of future generations by turning
our weaknesses into strengths. During this time, the United States encountered many movements and
opportunities due to the birth control pill and the Sexual Revolution. It was a great shift in the society
because it opened doors for minorities and created an equal treatment men and women. The birth

The availability of the pill gave a different view towards women and their capacity to become
successful individuals due to the power they had over their bodies. For once, women had an
opportunity to think of a future career instead of staying at home with their children. It helped
American women enjoy sex rather than worry about further responsibilities such as pregnancy. During
1965, a study proved that women who used oral contraceptives had sex up to 39% more than women
who used other methods (Williams). This demonstrates how women took advantage of the pill by
planning for futures they wouldn t have been able to think about before. They could now be
independent women. Women started challenging their exclusion from politics and the workplace and
even questioned their sexual roles ( The Sexual Revolution: History, Origins Impact ). Therefore, they
also began to doubt the authority of men to make decisions for their bodies. As for men, not only did
they start expecting women to have more casual affairs, but they created a stronger communication
with women due to sexually transmitted diseases. The consent of women over their own bodies and
their futures was made possible by the birth control pill.
The Sexual Revolution caused a more tolerant and liberal behavior towards sexuality and changed
social norms. It was an attack towards the American family for social conservatives due to the fact that

Old Spice, Become a Man
Most of us have probably seen the Old Spice commercials with the confident and fast talking Isaiah
Mustafa, AKA The Old Spice Man. These commercials first began in early 2010 and have since
become a whole series of some of the most popular commercials on television and the internet. But
what is it about these ads that make them so appealing? To answer this question, this paper will focus
on the commercial that started it all: The Man Your Man Could Smell Like. Although this ad does
surprisingly little to realistically describe the product it is advertising, its clever and difficult to notice
of all three first parts of appeal convinced many people to switch to Old Spice, and, at the same time
helped Old Spice reach a close connection with its target audience, this way embedding itself into our
popular culture.
Before getting into any analysis, I would like to give brief summary of how the ad goes forward.
Mustafa, in a bathroom wearing nothing but a towel, starts a speech which describes how anything is
possible when a man uses Old Spice body wash. In one continuous take, Mustafa moves from the
bathroom to a sailboat, to a sandy beach, and lastly, to horseback riding. The commercial ends with
Mustafa delivering the non sequitur punchline, I m on a horse, and the camera zooms out to show the
audience that Mustafa is in fact riding a horse. Also, Mustafa completes all this

Input, Output, and Connectivity Input, output, and connectivity are some of the most important
considerations to make when choosing a computer. Without input and output our computers would not
be able to function as they properly should, therefore making decisions on these sections are an
important part in choosing a computer. In my last paper I broke down the main operating factors to

Bluetooth keyboards are so convenient to have as they help make the general experience more
efficient, and they save space; having wires hanging all over the place is very inconvenient when
considering portability and function. Also the keyboard would have to be pretty large, as it is much
easier to type papers on a large keyboard. To go along with the size of the keyboard, it should also be
back lit. There are many times when it is more comfortable to work in the dark, and without a back lit
keyboard typing in the dark is going to be a major strain on your eyes and patience. To re cap, the type
of keyboard that I would choose would have to be comfortable to type on, have a back lit keyboard,
and in the case of not being already attached to the PC I would want to be connected via Bluetooth.
The next type of input that I would consider for my PC is a computer mouse. This is another very
important piece of equipment, and a lot of times it is one of the under considered pieces when it comes
to choosing input equipment. There are not a lot of different types of mice to compare and consider,
but choosing the right type of mouse is going to be an important factor in how much enjoyment and
efficiency that you are going to receive from your PC. There are three different types of basic

Mo Better Blues signature style is attractive. In the daytime scene, the film took all the deep tan,

the way the camera uses the focus is very atmospheric, slowly using slow motion, scaling and clutch
angles as well. These have reached a high point in the musical of the film because the visual style
coincides with the nature of the music s hypnotic jazz, and the mood is just with the audience to attract

The Effects Of Religiosity And Culture On Adolescent Std...
Abstract According to the U.S Department of Health and Human Services, 65 percent of teens have
had sex by the time they were seniors in high school . Under aged sex is a prevalent activity in today s
society; henceforth, starting this act from a younger age results in an increase in sexual partners over
one s lifespan, which, because of the nature of the activity, gives a greater risk of sexually transmitted
diseases. As a result, it is important to understand: adolescent STD rates, the factors that may
contribute to them and the possible preventable variables that could aid in alleviating the rate of
sexually transmitted diseases transmitted amongst adolescents. To further understand the effects of
religiosity and culture, this review of literature will discover the negative and positive correlations,
and the associations certain variables obtained to influence the adolescent STD rates. The possible
major factors that contribute to high adolescent STD rates are: adolescent relationships, sexual
violence, lack of sexual knowledge, and lack of parental guidance. However, religiosity and culture
plays both a positive and a negative preventive strategy in slowing down adolescent STD rates. To
further reduce rates of adolescent sexually transmitted diseases, more research is needed to measure
the effectiveness of the different types of religions and cultures. Introduction In 2012, The Centers of

Paula Anderson Case Study At School
While they enjoy many of the same personal rights and freedoms as other adults, teachers are held to a
high personal standard due to their interactions with children and the importance that they serve as
role models to their students. Unfortunately, there are instances in which teachers fall short of this
moral obligation. In this case study, Paula Gibson is an elementary school teacher who was arrested
for openly engaging in sexual behavior with two men at a club. The principal, Hank Doss, has
recommended her dismissal. In this fairly cut and dry case, Paula has little recourse to fight against the
termination of her employment.

Essex surmises, It is important to note that when criminal activity involving teachers does not result in

An Evaluation Of An Internship At The Firm...
Competing on Analytics defines an analytical competitor as an organization that uses analytics
extensively and systematically to outthink and out execute the competition. (1) Business analytics is a
new way for companies to separate themselves from their competitors. I recently completed an
internship at the firm PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) and will work there full time upon completion
of this program. PwC uses analytics to help solve complex business issues and to identify
opportunities across different industries. PwC is the largest professional service company in the world
and is part of the Big Four accounting firms. PwC operates in over 157 countries with more than 750
offices throughout the world.(2) PwC is structured into three service lines, which are Assurance,
Advisory and Tax. The assurance practice audits almost 30% of the global fortune 500 companies.(2)
The advisory practice is mainly consulting activities that cover strategy, cyber security and privacy,
human resources, deals and forensics. (2) These three practices generated $35.4 billion in revenue in
2015. (2) Position and Ability to Compete on Analytics Today, data is a growing asset that various
businesses are having difficulty converting into a powerful strategic tool. Companies need help
turning this data into valuable insight, which can diminish risk and enhance returns on investments.

Of Mice And Men Symbolism Essay
Songtai Liu English Essay Symbols in Of Mice and Men Of Mice and Men is a novella that was
written by John Steinbeck. It was published in the 1930s and it basically tells a story during the Great
Depression period about of two migrant workers, George and Lennie, traveled around and look for
new job opportunities; they arrived at a ranch in California and started to work at there. In fact, I
found that Steinbeck used the technique of symbolism very constantly throughout the story. So I am
going to introduce about some interesting symbols that I found in the book to write about. First of all,
George and Lennie s dream farm. This imaginary farm is basically what pushes the whole story line
since the whole story is about George and Lennie working while achieving their dream which is ...

that Lennie always hurts whatever he pets. Lennie clearly realized that as well. In the ending part of
the story, he saw a gigantic rabbit who told him that he just forget about the rabbits and just let them

A Raisin In The Sun Power Quotes
In A Raisin in the Sun, by Loraine Hansberry, each character views the world in extremely varying
manners. Upon first meeting the Youngers the traits of ambition, fulfillment, and longing are all
present within the family. Each character takes on a unique world view, and their varying perspectives
often clash. From the very beginning of the play, Walter argues with his wife Ruth over matters of
money. These battles for power and control are regular occurrences in the Younger household. The
most significant of these battles is between Mama and Walter. In the initial sections of the play, most
of these arguments revolve around Mama s recently acquired money. Walter and Mama have opposing
perspectives on how to spend the money. Walter believes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Patrick Bateman s Borderline Personality Disorder In...
Based on the novel by Bret Easton Ellis, the 2000 movie, American Psycho, is a young but classic film
to horror and gore enthusiast. I chose this film because it is one of the most disturbingly shocking, yet
nonchalant, movies that I ever seen. The main character, Patrick Bateman, is a successful businessman
living in New York City who has a wonderful life. Although he seems perfectly normal, he has a
darker side which he hides from his close friends and family. This darker side is, in part, a result of his
borderline personality disorder.
The presence of Patrick s borderline personality disorder was never openly discussed in the film,
although many of the traits were clearly displayed through Patrick s words and actions. To support
this,

behavior and helps to diagnose his character in the film.
In the film, there is a scene where Patrick and a coworker go into a stall and snort cocaine while at a

the body. Several scenes in the movie depict Patrick having sexual relations with various women,
which can be related back to pages 212 through 215. These pages in the text discuss sexual
motivation, behavior, and orientation. Lastly, Patrick often shows a lack of emotion and interest in life.
This characteristic is displayed all throughout the film and plays a huge role in describing the
character.

The Principal Standard: Provide effective, equitable, understandable, and respectful quality care and
services that are responsive to diverse cultural health beliefs and practices, preferred languages, health
literacy, and other communication needs.
Mrs. Mack replied this standard was a broad standard and went on to address each aspect of the
standard in great detail.
The effectiveness of the health care we provide at Salina Family Health Care is measured routinely.
For example, there is a health care plan that encompasses 16 different aspects of health care that we ve
determined to be important to our patient population. For these 16 goals we have 34 specific
interventions we ve implemented to help us achieve these goals. We receive a monthly report of our
progress toward meeting these goals which might include getting blood pressure readings below
140/90, catching women up who need a pap smear or encouraging smoking cessation in persons who
smoke. This health care plan drives our practice and the feedback we receive for our efforts guide our
practice daily.
The care we provide at Salina Family Health Care I would consider to be equitable. We provide

nationality, residency status, ability or disability, or whether or not they can pay for

For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to

Community service, as I have come to learn, is all about taking the initiative to help someone in need,
no matter their situation. As the verse Matthew 25:35 says above, it is our job to share God s love

Defining Freedom in Eric Foner s The Story of American...
In Eric Foner s book, The Story of American Freedom, he writes a historical monograph about how
liberty came to be. In the book, his argument does not focus on one fixed definition of freedom like
others are tempted to do. Unlike others, Foner describes liberty as an ever changing entity; its
definition is fluid and does not change in a linear progress. While others portray liberty as a pre
determined concept and gradually getting better, Foner argues the very history of liberty is constantly
reshaping the definition of liberty, itself. Essentially, the multiple and conflicting views on liberty has
always been a terrain of conflict and has changed in time (Foner xv).

The redefinition of property not only affected the very meaning of freedom but also those entitled to
enjoy it. Because economic resources, like civil rights, possessions, and land, is easily accessible, the
limitations for men expanded. Nonetheless, the qualifications were still the same and in order to vote
one had to be white, male, and own property. As civil rights were being expanded, it also played a role
in the meaning of religious freedom. Because government were not allowed to interfere in personal
matters, religious decisions were free from governmental interference. During the 18th century, the
meaning of freedom has changed in so many ways.
In Chapter three, we can also continue to this change. Social conditions such as the three process that
occurred during the revolution also affected the meaning of freedom. The first was territorial
expansion, Manifest Destiny being the underlying idea behind it, and moving westward to acquire
more land meant more property could be own. It also reinforced the promise of economic opportunity
given that with more land one was able to own a farm and participate in the market revolution. And
with the revolution reaching its highest point, property owning qualifications for voting was
eliminated and political democracy, the second process, mean not ownership of property, but
ownership of one s self (Foner 52). Voting was still the very meaning of freedom. However, voting

Introduction Over the years, with the corporate development and social or statutes pressure, some
concepts and standards related with audit is uncertainly or ambiguous. The obvious question is
whether auditors should be blame when they failing to warn investors to ailing firms financial

Samuel Morse ran into problems during the development of the telegraph machine, the telegraph
machine could only transmit information for a little bit more than a few hundred yards due to the loss
of current over long distances. Not until Professor Leonard Gale, of New York University, that helped
improved Morse s design that used superior batteries and electromagnets that enabled it to transfer
currents over great distances. After the help of Gale, Samuel Morse had perfected his telegraph; it was
able to send signals over great distances. Although his Journey wasn t over, he now had to send his
work to Washington where he awaited to be approved by Congress. He attended both sessions of
Congress, from 1837 to 1838 and another one in 1842 to 1843. During the last day of the session,
which was March 3, 1843, he spent the whole day and part of the evening in the Senate chamber,
anxiously watching the progress of the passing of the various bills (Morse) to watch the bill get

Baltimore. His first telegraph machine was made from household instruments that consisted of an old

of a wire, embracing the helices of the electro magnet connected with the positive and negative poles
of the battery and terminating the mercury cups (Morse). His apparatus was so crude

Essay ROME IN THE AUGUSTINIAN AGE
30 BC ~ Octavian was given the title of Imperator, and was used in the Eastern provinces. Imperium
suggests unlimited imperium (or power) (Antiquity 2 Interpreting The Past) This was the first of many
titles that were to be given to Octavian after his defeat of Mark Antony in 31 BC at the Battle of
Actium. It indicates that the provinces thought Octavian was worthy of being honoured, and that the
power he possessed at the time should remain. Therefore making it the first factor that led to the rise
of Octavian.

Therefore, although Dio Cassius was writing approximately two centuries after the events, it would
have been possible for him to have quoted direct speeches made by Octavian. Dio Cassius context also
needs to be taken into account. He was a Senator, consul and proconsul himself, and was therefore,
like most ancient Roman historians, an elite male, writing about an elite male, for other elite males.
Octavian himself does not clearly state whether or not the transfer took place at one point, or over an
extended period of time in a series of steps (as is the belief of some historians), I transferred the
republic from my power to the dominion of the Senate and people of Rome. (Res Gestae Divi August)
caution needs to be taken when assessing this source as it is Octavian s own account of what
happened, and so is obviously extremely biased, aiming to portray himself and his achievements as he
wanted them to be remembered. Regardless of the time period the significance of Octavian s actions
are clear. He gave up his powers and returned absolute authority in the provinces as well as his control
of the legions that were sanctioned there. (Antiquity 2 Interpreting The Past) This was significant as
these legions had been the basis of his power. As Eck highlights in his The Age of Augustus Octavian
theoretically gave up his authority, but in reality the Senate and people of Rome had little power as
they lacked the ability to initiate

The Benefits Of Solar Energy
The Benefits of Solar Energy
Solar energy has been around for decades and as time has evolved it has become the center of
renewable energy. In order for you to fully understand the environmental and economical benefits of
solar panels you must first understand and know their purpose. A solar panel is a panel designed to
absorb the sun s rays as a source of energy for generating electricity or heating. With the recent rise in
energy costs many people have been looking to alternative sources of energy, this is where we see
solar panels and solar energy come into the picture. Solar panels have a variety of benefits ranging
from higher property values, economic growth, and health benefits. As more homes and businesses
across the country install solar panels, our nation moves farther away from fossil fuel consumption
and closer to a clean economy powered by the sun. It is known that when we burn fossil burns to
create energy we are releasing toxic gases that cause pollution and global warming. But the
installation of solar panels allows for less and less of those toxic gases to be emitted and lowers our
dependence on the other fossil fuels. Throughout this essay you will see how and why solar panels
play such a vital role in our environment, and yes it is true that there are two sides to every story but in
actuality you find very little disadvantages. So why are solar panels beneficial to the environment and
how can this be proven?

Socrates View On Happiness
To achieve happiness, there is no set action to take in order to feel it. I feel as if happiness can be
reached in an unjust society. It is up to an individual to find their own happiness. An individual has to
make the best out of what they have. It has been proven time and time again, that it is okay to be
different. It is when people are different when things start to change for society. When everyone stays
the same, everything stays the same. Just like Socrates questioning anything and everything to attempt
to fulfill his life, how the Greeks used theater to make life less serious, and the use of certain coping
mechanisms used in today s society.
Socrates was known to be one of the founders of western philosophy. For most of his time he was a
well known character, expounding his philosophy of life in the streets of Athens to anyone who cared
to listen (Grube, pg. ix). Socrates spent his life questioning absolutely anything and everything. That is
how he fulfilled his life. He knew that nothing was certain, and that is what made him happy. He lived
in a society that he thought was unjust, yet he found a way to have happiness. Socrates knew that what
we know as humans is not accurate, and he was determined to try and figure out anything he could. He
may not have known why he did what he did, or he may not know that it makes him happy, but that is
what he did to pursue his definition of happiness.
Throughout the Greek age, drama became a huge role in society. According to Backman,In other
societies such as Egypt, there was no such thing as a play or comedy. I feel as if that society was a lot
more reserved and not as open. In Greece, the use of comedy made it easier to joke about more serious
issues.
Just like in the Greek age, today s society uses comedy to make each other happy and feel better about
what is happening. The use of theater may not directly occur, however the use social media, television,
and internet to make light of the downfalls we have throughout our society. Throughout the year of
2016, there was a lot of controversy throughout the presidential election. It was a sore subject for
many to talk about due to the extremely different beliefs. This society is built on the grounds of

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Spyware
Spyware is a worldwide scourge that has turned out to be progressively across the board and
pernicious. A May 2005 overview by the Ponemon Institute found that 85% of regular web clients
trust that they have had spyware on their PC, and 86% of those clients said that the spyware brought
on them a direct money related or efficiency misfortune. A sweep of 3 million PC frameworks directed
more than nine months by EarthLink in 2004 discovered 83 million cases of spyware. Spyware is
programming that is introduced on a PC without the information or assent of the client, to gather and
transmit information from the PC. Inside of this definition, be that as it may, there are wide ranges of

Who Is Andrew Jackson Responsible For The Indian Removal Act
Andrew Jackson Debate Response
Although there have been arguments made in support for Andrew Jackson, his decision to [pass the
Indian Removal Acts were completely unhumanitarian. Andrew Jackson has to be held responsible for
the thousands of unnecessary deaths he caused, and he has to be portrayed for the man he really was: a
corrupt leader that lead America into committing mass genocide against the indigenous people of
America. This should not be looked over due to the other achievements Andrew Jackson had
completed during his life. He committed mass genocide, he was a racist who was driven to kill and
enslave other living, breathing humans, and he killed thousands of Native Americans for land that
America had no need for. He needs to be held at fault for his actions, and they simply cannot be
accounted for as humanitarian. Despite Andrew Jackson not being able to predict the outcomes and
consequences of the Indian Removal Act, there is no justifying his actions. Andrew Jackson was the
man who openly gave approval to committing mass genocide for the Native Americans, forcibly
removed thousands of Native Americans from lands they had owned for thousands of years prior, and
approved and appointed the individuals in charge of starting the trail of tears. In February 1830, the
Indian Removal Act set in place that potentially allowed the president to grant land that was west of
the Mississippi river in exchange for Native American s land within existing state borders. In theory,
this plan would allow the native to earn money if they wished to move, and in return the Americans
could acquire more land. The outcome of this, however, was a bloody massacre. Many of the Native
Americans did not want to move, since they have been living there for thousands of years, longer than
the whites have been there. Since many of them did not want to move, the Americans used force in an
attempt to push the Native Americans west in a movement that killed over 4,000 natives. There is no
justifying what Andrew Jackson did in order to gain more unnecessary land. Throughout his life,
Andrew Jackson proved time and time again that he was, indeed, an extraordinarily racist man. As a
result, his actions against the Native Americans

Review Of Dover Beach

Arnold s Dover Beach
English 201
3/9/15
Doubt on Dover Beach:
An Exploration of the Loss of Faith in the Victorian Era The Victorian age is marked by the sudden
and startling changes it brought on the western world. As industrialization, intense colonization, and
expanding practices of sciences abounded, the traditional ideas and ideals that had once seemed
constant and true, were suddenly precarious. Matthew Arnold s Dover Beach has become
quintessential to the Victorian literary canon as it is exactly this struggle with a loss of constancy and
the confrontation with the unknown and uncertainty that Arnold evokes within its lines. Dover Beach
explores the potential effects of these sudden shifts in culture; particularly the shift towards scientific
exploration and the threat this shift had on notions of Christianity and faith. The poem acts as a grand
sweeping metaphor for the ideas of constancy and doubt as it lures the reader into a sense of
permanence and complacency before undermining that sense by contradicting itself and implementing
mistrust; ultimately it leaves the reader with a sense that since faith is not eternal, nothing is. This
metaphor is enhanced and nuanced through Arnold s interesting use of structure and sudden shifts in
tone. The first stanza of Dover Beach consists of fourteen lines in iambic meter (though not iambic
pentameter) with varying lengths and features a seemingly random rhyme structure of:

spend entire several years regarding her magnificence and her excellence; in any case, human life is
short and tomorrow is not ensure he doesn t have this time, in this manner they should value each

and subjugation reflect how the suiter ensures that if the time halted he would enthusiastically adore
every part of his bashful paramour, however since time sit tight for no man he uses this certifications
to bait in his favor lady to have intercourse with him. The sonnet is composed as an adoration lyric
utilizing the conventional love requiem arrange otherwise called carpe diem and is isolated into three
stanzas or graceful passages. It s talked by an anonymous man, who doesn t uncover any physical or
true to life insights about himself, to an anonymous lady, who is likewise unknown. The excellence of
the dialect and the mind boggling center around the lady s magnificence, the regard demonstrated in
that, makes the sonnet very dynamic and interesting. The man points to smooth talk as well as to awe
her. To go up against the idea of time, he utilizes scriptural references to stamp the changeless idea of
reality. By utilizing a story out of the Old Testament the picture of the immense surge that cleansed the
earth as a begin point and afterward utilized the picture that Armageddon will eventually happen at the
transformation of the Jews as an end point, the man tries to demonstrate the inconceivability of
anticipated human presence. In the meantime anyway he quietly implies toward the second more

The narrator of The Scarlet Letter is a surveyor in Salem who found documents in the customhouse s
attic of a manuscript, the work of a past surveyor. From this manuscript, the narrator of the story
retells the story: The Scarlet Letter.
The setting of the story is 1600s in a Puritan settlement. The main character of our story, Hester
Prynne is branded with a scarlet letter (an A) for adultery and is being led out into the town from
prison to be reprimanded for her sins. Her husband, a scholar from overseas, has not arrived yet
allegedly and is believed to have been lost out at sea. Hester has had an affair and given birth to a
child (named Pearl), and refuses to tell the name of the father despite being verbally attacked by the
townspeople. Because of her adultery and unwillingness to disclose his ... Show more content on

Chillingworth finds a mark on Dimmesdale s chest one night as he is sleeping, and confirms that he is
connected with Hester. Dimmesdale becomes even more distressed, and continues to torture himself in
new ways. Hester has become less hated in the town because of her humility and charity (she works as
a seamstress). One night, Hester and Pearl both find Dimmesdale on the scaffold in the town,
punishing himself for his sins. They all join hands, Pearl (around 7 now) asks Arthur if he can come
forward about them the next day, to which he refuses. A meteor runs across the sky, marking a red A in
the clouds. Dimmesdale is growing worse and Hester intervenes by going to Chillingworth to ask him
to stop tormenting Arthur (he doesn t). Hester plans to meet Dimmesdale in the forest because
Chillingworth may suspect that Hester will reveal who he really is to Dimmesdale. Hester and
Dimmesdale plan to run away to Europe with each other, and will sail away from Boston in four days.
This is when Hester takes of her scarlet letter. In town, right before the ship is about to sail, there is a
holiday and Dimmesdale delivers his best sermon yet. But

What Is The Siemen s Relationship With The Older House
Examples of this apparent friendship is shown in some ways throughout, such as when the young
house recognizes that the older house is cold, so automatically grabs a piece of wood from himself to
throw in the fire to keep him warm, which goes back to the idea that they start to think of the other
person before they think of themselves. As the older house not being as physically able to make it up a
hill, the younger house sacrifices his energy to push the older house up the hill. As you watch the film
you watch their friendship grow and become stronger, when they get to the frozen pond the film
makes it very apparent that the small trailer skating caught the blue houses eye, yet he didn t go off
with the trailer it stayed, the older house recognizing

Reasons Why Farmers Are Loyalists
Some might say that Shay and the farmers were revolutionary heroes, but they were just reckless
rebels. They were criminals because they repeatedly broke many laws. They attacked the government
s arsenal for false reasons and the arsenal that was the house for most of the country s weapons that
was protecting them. They also killed and hurt multiple soldiers protecting the arsenal.Doing that
probably broke the law for trespassing and killing multiple soldiers. They also rioted outside the court
houses which caused most of the of the court houses in the country to close. They also blamed their
government for putting taxes on them. In Abigail Adams note to Thomas Jefferson, it says they spend
all of their money on furniture, clothes and thing

The United States Legal System
Introduction On January 18th, 2003 at 6:38 in the morning, a cirrus SR 22 aircraft crashed near the
city of Hill City, Nebraska. As part of these unfortunate turn of events, both the pilot and owner of the
aircraft subsequently died in the crash. It would be later, that the estate of the two individuals, would
take to court the Cirrus Design Group, alleging that manufacturer had failed to either properly train, or
instruct the pilot on the operation of said aircraft prior to selling it to him. Furthermore, it was alleged
that Cirrus failed to give adequate instruction regarding the recovering of unusual attitudes in flight,
ultimately leading to the deaths of the individuals on the aircraft that day when encountering weather

However, in the case of Glorvigen V. cirrus Design Corp, the estate of the deceased argued that it was
the inherent duty of the manufacturer to provide adequate safety training as a part of the requirement
for duty to warn, prior to the execution of flight practices.
Analysis
As it stands currently in the United States, a manufacturer may be held liable for any harm their
product causes due to defect, even without being in privity of contract with the buyer. Additionally, the
stance on negligence in the United States has changed from being bases solely on the theories of
negligence, breach of contract, or breach of warranty concurrent with national shift towards strict
liability in tort. This case does well do demonstrate that we recognize the duty of either suppliers to
manufacturers to give adequate instruction, but the question now arises whether or not it is the
inherent duty to also train intended users in the safe operation of the product by the manufacturer or
supplier. In the state of Minnesota where the mishap aircraft originated from, the duty to warn is
applied in the following way; The manufacturer has a duty to warn end users of a dangerous product if
it is reasonably foreseeable that an injury could occur in its use (Gary v. Badger Mining Corp, 2004).
The entailment of this duty is seen as giving adequate instruction unto the safe use of said product, but
ultimately leaves

  • 2. Chris Mccandless Narcissism Chris McCandless traveled to Alaska in April of 1992 for isolation from society, and unfortunately died in Fairbanks Bus 142 in August of 1992. His death is not what angers readers, but his lack of preparation and arrogance about the wilderness is what proves his reckless narcissism . His selfishness to not abide by his parent s wishes for college and a decent job, his unpreparedness for wilderness survival, and his manipulation and lack of empathy for others is why readers believe he is a reckless narcissist . However, many people see him as a noble idealist for leaving society and all its amenities to live out his dream of in the wild. The McCandless wanted one thing from their son, to go to college and succeed. McCandless did not want to do this and adamantly refused to live by his parents wishes. Before he went to college, he went on a cross country trip in his yellow Datsun and came back in time for school. Throughout his time at Emory, McCandless hatred of his parents grew and he became more radical in his ideas. His parents became worried, but McCandless did not acknowledge their help. He continued to hate them despite their attempts to aid him. McCandless is similar to Holden Caulfield from The Catcher in the Rye. Although he did not rebel against his parents, he rebelled against society s rules. McCandless rebelled from his parents rules. • 4. The Impossibility Of Religious Freedom The act of defining religion has been a contentious issue in a wide variety of situations, particularly in the United States. The US is a nation that prides itself on religious inclusivity and freedom. There are consequences to this belief and tenant. Through the social, legal and moral structures of the United States, defining religion has become imperative. In The Impossibility of Religious Freedom, Winifred Sullivan outlines the legal implications of defining religion in the United States. In order for religious freedom to be protected by the American state, religion must be clearly defined. While there are specificities of the case that can help determine the individualized outcome of this particular case, the foundations of the legal problems in the case can be expanded to greater problems of religious definition in the United States. As shown through The Impossibility of Religious Freedom, religious theory is vital to the continuation of religious freedom protections, for better or worse, in the United States. The case that is highlighted by Sullivan revolves around the ability for citizens to use religious items around burial sites that extend beyond the city of Boca Raton s regulatory codes. When some of these religious items around the burial sites were not permitted by the city, a group of citizens sued the city on the grounds that the city was preventing actions protected by the religious freedom clauses of the US Constitution. This case, like many others involving religious freedom decisions, required a real definition of religion. Religious theory was imperative to the outcome of this case. Sullivan writes, If religion was whatever anyone said it was, the statute was unworkable and [Judge Ryskamp] did not feel it was his place to simply dismiss an act of the Florida legislature as nonsense. Religion therefore had to be measured and bounded by an expert test... (Sullivan 105). These tests were determined by various religious scholars, including Sullivan, that testified in this case. Through these fictitious texts, we gain valuable insight into significant issues and matters both known and unknown. Although upon original release, these texts remain a mere glimpse into seemingly impossible technologies and societies, the true beauty of the genre, is that over time, we can see a definite parallel between the predictions made by authors and reality. In fact the very fact that through nearly a millennia they have refused to produce their constitution in a formal written structure reiterates that sentiment. And although the undercurrent of maintaining certain traditional and cultural norms remains strong, the national government has on frequent occasion had to accept the often frequent and ill fated changes within the local government. Throughout history the lion s share of these local changes have revolved around the relationship between the formerly autonomous countries of Wales, Scotland, and Ireland. But a comprehensive analysis of these complicated relationships requires a much more lengthy background. As a result this paper will attempt to analyze the proposition of transfer of power in greater part to the local government of Scotland within the context of the last decades of the 20th century into the first decade of the 21st. A modern approach to the increasing separation of Scotland and England can been seen beginning with the Labour Party during the 1970 s. The indecision and hesitation with respect to reform was epitomized in the bold and determined proposal of the 1974 Labour government decentralization and transfer of power for Wales and Scotland. With no immediately apparent motive, it begs the question in people as to what might possess a person to go out and commit such a heinous crime. Indeed, the question has dogged the American populace ever since the invention of the modern mass shooting, and even before, attached to other senseless violent atrocities. Human brains are wired to look for causality in meaningless events as a survival mechanism, so they have a tendency to find it in places where it actually never existed in the first place. This is why violence in television and video games has come under fire in recent years as their influence expands, despite evidence that such phony violence does not beget real violence and may, in fact, be beneficial to a person s well being. Firstly, it should be noted that the studies people often cite when attempting to prove media violence has negative effects on behavior are flawed and inconsistent. In a review of publications on the subject conducted by psychologist Jonathan L. Freedman, he found that of the 2,500 publications, there were only 200 pieces of non duplicated research among them, stemming from places of varying scientific legitimacy. The ways in which many of these studies are conducted can lead to skewed results in favor of the hypothesis the researchers want to prove. When studying how violent media consumption affects play ... The availability of the pill gave a different view towards women and their capacity to become successful individuals due to the power they had over their bodies. For once, women had an opportunity to think of a future career instead of staying at home with their children. It helped American women enjoy sex rather than worry about further responsibilities such as pregnancy. During 1965, a study proved that women who used oral contraceptives had sex up to 39% more than women who used other methods (Williams). This demonstrates how women took advantage of the pill by planning for futures they wouldn t have been able to think about before. They could now be independent women. Women started challenging their exclusion from politics and the workplace and even questioned their sexual roles ( The Sexual Revolution: History, Origins Impact ). Therefore, they also began to doubt the authority of men to make decisions for their bodies. As for men, not only did they start expecting women to have more casual affairs, but they created a stronger communication with women due to sexually transmitted diseases. Old Spice, Become A Man Courtney Van Houweling Paula Fender 1st Year Comp November 10th, 2016 Old Spice, Become a Man Most of us have probably seen the Old Spice commercials with the confident and fast talking Isaiah Mustafa, AKA The Old Spice Man. These commercials first began in early 2010 and have since become a whole series of some of the most popular commercials on television and the internet. But what is it about these ads that make them so appealing? To answer this question, this paper will focus on the commercial that started it all: The Man Your Man Could Smell Like. Although this ad does surprisingly little to realistically describe the product it is advertising, its clever and difficult to notice of all three first parts of appeal convinced many people to switch to Old Spice, and, at the same time helped Old Spice reach a close connection with its target audience, this way embedding itself into our popular culture. Before getting into any analysis, I would like to give brief summary of how the ad goes forward. Mustafa, in a bathroom wearing nothing but a towel, starts a speech which describes how anything is possible when a man uses Old Spice body wash. In one continuous take, Mustafa moves from the bathroom to a sailboat, to a sandy beach, and lastly, to horseback riding. Abstract According to the U.S Department of Health and Human Services, 65 percent of teens have had sex by the time they were seniors in high school . Under aged sex is a prevalent activity in today s society; henceforth, starting this act from a younger age results in an increase in sexual partners over one s lifespan, which, because of the nature of the activity, gives a greater risk of sexually transmitted diseases. As a result, it is important to understand: adolescent STD rates, the factors that may contribute to them and the possible preventable variables that could aid in alleviating the rate of sexually transmitted diseases transmitted amongst adolescents. To further understand the effects of religiosity and culture, this review of literature will discover the negative and positive correlations, and the associations certain variables obtained to influence the adolescent STD rates. The possible major factors that contribute to high adolescent STD rates are: adolescent relationships, sexual violence, lack of sexual knowledge, and lack of parental guidance. However, religiosity and culture plays both a positive and a negative preventive strategy in slowing down adolescent STD rates. It is up to an individual to find their own happiness. An individual has to make the best out of what they have. It has been proven time and time again, that it is okay to be different. It is when people are different when things start to change for society. When everyone stays the same, everything stays the same. Just like Socrates questioning anything and everything to attempt to fulfill his life, how the Greeks used theater to make life less serious, and the use of certain coping mechanisms used in today s society. Socrates was known to be one of the founders of western philosophy. For most of his time he was a well known character, expounding his philosophy of life in the streets of Athens to anyone who cared to listen (Grube, pg. ix). Socrates spent his life questioning absolutely anything and everything. That is how he fulfilled his life. He knew that nothing was certain, and that is what made him happy. He lived in a society that he thought was unjust, yet he found a way to have happiness. Socrates knew that what we know as humans is not accurate, and he was determined to try and figure out anything he could. He may not have known why he did what he did, or he may not know that it makes him happy, but that is what he did to pursue his definition of happiness. • 35. Who Is Andrew Jackson Responsible For The Indian Removal Act Andrew Jackson Debate Response Although there have been arguments made in support for Andrew Jackson, his decision to [pass the Indian Removal Acts were completely unhumanitarian. Andrew Jackson has to be held responsible for the thousands of unnecessary deaths he caused, and he has to be portrayed for the man he really was: a corrupt leader that lead America into committing mass genocide against the indigenous people of America. This should not be looked over due to the other achievements Andrew Jackson had completed during his life. He committed mass genocide, he was a racist who was driven to kill and enslave other living, breathing humans, and he killed thousands of Native Americans for land that America had no need for. He needs to be held at fault for his actions, and they simply cannot be accounted for as humanitarian. Despite Andrew Jackson not being able to predict the outcomes and consequences of the Indian Removal Act, there is no justifying his actions. Andrew Jackson was the man who openly gave approval to committing mass genocide for the Native Americans, forcibly removed thousands of Native Americans from lands they had owned for thousands of years prior, and approved and appointed the individuals in charge of starting the trail of tears. In February 1830, the Indian Removal Act set in place that potentially allowed the president to grant land that was west of the Mississippi river in exchange for Native American s land within existing state borders. In theory, this plan would allow the native to earn money if they wished to move, and in return the Americans could acquire more land. The outcome of this, however, was a bloody massacre. Many of the Native Americans did not want to move, since they have been living there for thousands of years, longer than the whites have been there. Since many of them did not want to move, the Americans used force in an attempt to push the Native Americans west in a movement that killed over 4,000 natives. There is no justifying what Andrew Jackson did in order to gain more unnecessary land. Review Of Dover Beach Sage Walund Gorra Arnold s Dover Beach English 201 3/9/15 Doubt on Dover Beach: An Exploration of the Loss of Faith in the Victorian Era The Victorian age is marked by the sudden and startling changes it brought on the western world. As industrialization, intense colonization, and expanding practices of sciences abounded, the traditional ideas and ideals that had once seemed constant and true, were suddenly precarious. Matthew Arnold s Dover Beach has become quintessential to the Victorian literary canon as it is exactly this struggle with a loss of constancy and the confrontation with the unknown and uncertainty that Arnold evokes within its lines. Dover Beach explores the potential effects of these sudden shifts in culture; particularly the shift towards scientific exploration and the threat this shift had on notions of Christianity and faith. The poem acts as a grand sweeping metaphor for the ideas of constancy and doubt as it lures the reader into a sense of permanence and complacency before undermining that sense by contradicting itself and implementing mistrust; ultimately it leaves the reader with a sense that since faith is not eternal, nothing is. This metaphor is enhanced and nuanced through Arnold s interesting use of structure and sudden shifts in tone. The first stanza of Dover Beach consists of fourteen lines in iambic meter (though not iambic pentameter) with varying lengths and features a seemingly random rhyme structure of: ...
