Waves ebb and flow. After a wave crashes, it recedes back to the ocean and gains momentum
before crashing onto shore again. The feminist movement have been described as waves because it
experiences similar motions. After the solidary force of the first wave, there was a recession in
feminist activities that accumulated until it formed the second wave. The first wave feminist
movement narrowed their principles and left a legacy of single mindedness to the second wave
feminist movement. The first wave s focus caused the lull that is the unnamed problem and started
the second wave.
The first wave of feminism sacrificed their original ideologies. The original women s rights leaders
had more on their agendas than just suffrage. Elizabeth Cady Stanton, one of the original leaders,
drafted in Declaration of Sentiments and Resolutions many grievances about men and resolutions
that the women of Seneca Falls Convention demanded: equal wages, rights to education and
occupation, equality of human rights, and more demands that stressed gender equality. Sarah
Grimke, another starter of the women s rights movement, wrote in Letters on the Equality of the
Sexes that woman, as their [men s] equal, was unspeakably more valuable than woman as their
inferior, both as a moral and an intellectual being. Both of these leaders encouraged activists in the
early women s rights movement to challenge all obstacles that women faced and pushed for gender

My Worst Day
I never imagined that my horrible day at work would turn into such an amazing night. I was
pretty upset that I was not going to be able to spend Christmas with my boyfriend of two years
Tate and his mother Penny at their house because both of our family s were having their family
