Band of Brothers And Today Essay
Band of Brothers And Today
What is going on in the world today? Are there any similarities with how the world was run 65
years ago? The 2002 HBO miniseries Band of Brothers was created and produced by a crew with
numerous amounts of well known Hollywood names. Two men with some of the biggest names in
Hollywood that backed this miniseries with their talent were Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks.
The miniseries was released in 2002, only a year after the events of September 11th. The show was
aired on HBO during prime time hours, aimed at Americans who may not have had a strong sense
of this era in history. Band of Brothers stresses the bond between men who have willingly come
together to fight for their country because they felt it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
September 11th 2001, an act of terror that screamed a cry throughout the world, and will forever
be in the hearts of many. Hundreds of firemen and police officers gave their lives without
thinking of there own. They could think only of the others who were in danger. The brotherhood
came after the disaster. Millions of Americans came together to show there support for others
who had been directly affected. The attacks of 9/11 forever affected Americans in the fact that
they were forever united with a bond stronger than anything a terrorist could break. Band of
Brothers shows that when put to the test, the bonds Americans create amongst themselves is
greater than any evil that is put in front of them. This was shown in the horrific tales of D Day.
As Lieutenant Richard Winters said, when referring to the solidarity of his company He s behind
enemy lines, on D Day.... Does he holler help? No... he hollers I m sorry lieutenant, I m sorry, I
goofed My God it s beautiful when you think of a guy who s that dedicated to his company, his
buddies, that he apologizes for getting hit. (We Stand Alone Together, Spielberg) Although
Americans may not be fighting a battle on the front lines, they have come to fight a battle of their
daily lives, and showing the opposition that they will not be

The History of Modernist Literature
Modernism, as an artistic movement, was notoriously explicit about depicting sex. Indeed much
of the history of Modernist literature involves censorship and legal embargoes against work
which was deemed too obscene to be permitted general availability and Modernist novels ranging
from Joyce s Ulysses to Henry Miller s Tropic of Cancer would have to overcome legal hurdles
before they could be read. The importance of Paris as a center for publication activity cannot be
understated here: both James Joyce and Henry Miller were able to have their work published in
Paris when no one in an English speaking country would take the risk. But this was established
before Modernism a generation earlier, Oscar Wilde s play SalomГ© was written in French, but
was banned from being staged in London for its religious (rather than sexual) content. It is worth
asking, then, what role was played by explicit sexuality in defining Modernist art and Modernist
consciousness. An examination of works by Henry Miller, AnaГЇs Nin, and Djuna Barnes may
demonstrate that, to a large extent, the description of sexuality served a two fold purpose: it helped
Modernism define itself against the proprieties of earlier literature, but it also represented an inward
turn for art. By emphasizing the interiority of consciousness, Modernist novels were making an
implicit turn away from dealing with the outer political turmoil of the decades which produced not
only Modernism, but the two World Wars. It is the

the NCAA today. In the early 1900 s, President Roosevelt got together with Harvard, Princeton and

Morris Disappearing Bag A Christmas Story
Wells, R. (1980). Morris s disappearing bag: A Christmas story (3rd ed.). Harmondsworth,
Middlesex, England: Picture Puffins, Penguin Books.
Genre: Children
It s Christmas Day and Morris is missing. A simple story about the youngest who initially is happy
with his bear until he realising that he is missing out on sharing the other presents his siblings have
received because he has nothing they want to share. Not happy, Morris is unable to be consoled,
even though he has various ideas from his older family members, until he finds a disappearing bag
and then everyone wants what he has. Simple text, that is funny and engaging with simple
drawings to support a charming story. With beautiful imagery the story shows how Morris copes
with his siblings and them not sharing with him.
Reading this to children, they enjoy the rhythmical sentence structure, sharing ideas on how Morris
could be comforted, discussing options on why Morris cannot be found; the gas

Leadership Theory Analysis And Application
Leadership Theory Analysis and Application
There are many different leadership theories that have been proposed, tested, and studied over the
years. Many organizations utilize these theories and practices to collect and analyze data within
their own organizations which may allow them to find ways of increasing the effectiveness of their
company. Although there are not any theories deemed completely perfect in leadership, many have
been given lots of validity based on the and studies done involving them. This paper will analyze
and discuss different leadership theories including; the contingency theory, the transformational
theory, and the leader member exchange theory. This paper will also discuss the most effective
leadership theory in a current organization.
Contingency Theory
The Contingency Theory is a theory based on the notion that the effectiveness of a leader is
correlated with the leadership style of that leader and the situation in which they are presented
with (Northouse, 2013). Contingency theory suggests that there are two different leadership
styles, one is relationship motivated, and the other is task motivated. These styles are measured
by the LPC (least preferred coworker) scale created by Fiedler, which gives the leaders a score.
The leaders that score low on the scale are considered to be task motivated leaders, while the ones
that score high are considered to be relationship motivated (Northouse, 2013). Within this theory
there were also three

Walking Dead Recaps

has been recaps and I m really sorry for that! I have been feeling unmotivated lately when it comes
to photographing things and writing but I m trying to work on some things so that I can create
more varying content for you all.
With the sixth season upon us, I was expecting something exciting and emotional but was a bit
disappointed. I wanted an episode that started right where we left off at the end of the fifth season.
I know they showed flashbacks, which was cool, but I would have preferred an episode without
flashbacks and just seeing how the community adapted after the meeting and the demise of Reg and
Pete and the return of our favorite zen ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The infected are trapped by strategically placed trucks that are blocking their path. Only one at a
time would be able to squeeze through, not enough to create an actual threat. Rick is creating a
plan to excavate the walkers when one truck falls off the ledge, leaving an open path for the
walkers to travel.
I guess this discovery determines how Alexandria has stayed in tact for so long. But the bigger
problem is, how are they going to get rid of these walkers so they don t become a larger threat.
This is where the episode kind of lost me...Ricks plan is to basically lead the infected 20 miles
away. Doesn t this seem a bit ridiculous? Why couldn t they set them on fire? Or at least come up
with a different plan. I find it hard to believe they couldn t think of something other than this
complicated and insane idea to lead infected away with noise and using Daryl as bait. I understand
that it makes things interesting but it just seemed like such a stretch to me.
Another grievence I had with this episode is the character, Carter. We meet him and he is
obviously very apprehensive towards Rick. He even tries to create a plan to kill Rick before he
gets anyone killed. Eugene overhears this plan and almost gets shot but Rick comes into the house
just in time and threatens

Essay on Review of Ordinary Resurrections by Jonathan Kozol
Review of Ordinary Resurrections by Jonathan Kozol
In his book, Ordinary Resurrections: Children in the Years of Hope, Jonathan Kozol pulls back the
veil and provides readers with a glimpse of the harsh conditions and unrelenting hope that exists in
a community located in the South Bronx called Mott Haven. Mr. Kozol provides his own socially
conscious and very informative view of the issues facing the children and educators in this poverty
ravaged neighborhood. Just his commentary would paint a very bleak picture of the future. It is the
words of the children that give this book optimism and meaning. The courage and care exhibited by
the volunteers of St. Ann s after school program and the creativity of the teachers at P.S. 30... Show

Kozol describes an intimate conversation with a group of children in the sanctuary of St. Ann s in
which several of the children reveal that they miss their fathers who are in prison. One of the
children, Elio, even fibs about his father coming home the following week. Later he admits that this
is not true but will not admit where his father actually is.
During his time in the Mott Haven community, Kozol, at times, served as a father figure for the
children who yearn to share what is in their hearts with their own fathers. Kozol eloquently
describes his role, I once told another man I know, who fills a role somewhat like mine among
the children, that I felt we were like gleaners in the Bible, not in fields of grain but in a field of
love that can t be harvested by those to whom the love rightly belongs. (Kozol 130). There are other
men living in Mott Haven that also fill that void. Several members of St. Ann s parish offer
supervision and support. Other men direct athletic programs giving boys and young men an outlet
and alternative to destructive activities. Still, this involvement cannot quench the desire that the
children express to be with their own fathers.
Kozol points out that it is the women of the community that play a more consistent role in caring
for and nurturing the children. Kozol quotes one of the men as saying Women hold up the sky in
this neighborhood. (Kozol 131). Mother Martha is the priest of

Global Economy Is Finally Stabilizing Following The Global...
The global economy is finally stabilizing following the global financial crisis and Great
Recession. Our base case outlook for average annual real growth between 2015 and 2020 is
between 3 and 4 percent Lower global commodity prices are an important factor supporting
stronger economic growth. Although economies that are dependent on commodity exports may
suffer, lower input prices for industry as well as lower fuel prices for households will provide a
boost to aggregate demand and global growth. We expect emerging economies to continue to grow
by more than 4 percent (contributing $16.2 trillion to global growth through 2020 at market
exchange rates), while the growth rate of advanced economies is forecast to exceed 2 percent
(contributing $13.5 trillion through 2020) for the first time since 2010. The United States is
leading the recovery among advanced markets, and we expect the country to be a significant
contributor to global growth through 2020. However, we anticipate economic performance to
continue to diverge within both the emerging and developed market groupings based on key policy
choices, as governments grapple with structural reforms in the context of reduced fiscal and
monetary stimulus. In this regard, strong leadership and bold government actions will determine
whether national economies can escape from the new mediocre of stable but low growth. Australia
resources industry (BHP) Australia has a rich haven of resources in the oil, gas and energy
industries.

Contemporary Hippie Research Paper
The Contemporary Hippie byline We all heard the terms hippies, hips, or hipsters which happens
to be a counter culture group that started in the 60s. What is this kind of lifestyle and who are
these people? Well for starters contemporary hippies don t like any of those terms because they
can be presumptuous to them. What does it mean to be a hippie? For Serge Obuks, 20 with
Latvian roots, it s a lifestyle in which he can live free of any constraints opposite to what most
people feel like these days. You re probably wondering what this means? Well since 60 s culture is
far behind us and the new mainstream being hip hop and the internet, things have taken a new form
for the hippie lifestyle.
Let us take a journey to the 60 s. Baby boomers are said to be the leaders of this new found culture.

The definition of abortion from google is the the deliberate termination of a human pregnancy,
most often performed during the first 28 weeks of pregnancy. Abortion is when a mother chooses
to take the life of her unborn child because either they do not want to have a baby, or they are
pregnant as a result of rape. Having an abortionis wrong because it kills an unborn baby. In 1973,
the US Supreme Court made abortions legal. Since then, there have been over fifty five million

Table 7: Expected Travel Expenses ImageFirst Signs will anticipate a savings of $99,300 per year.
This calculation is based on labor costs, space utilization, reduction in rework, and inventory costs.
These calculations can be seen in Table 8 below. Labor cost is calculated in two fold. First by
multiplying the number of operators (17), number of weeks per year (50), average hourly cost
per employee ($16), and the average number of hours anticipated to be saved with the
implementation of the deliverables (2 per operator). Second by multiplying the number of
shipping and receiving operator (1), number of weeks per year (50), average hourly cost per
employee ($16), average number of hours anticipated to be saved with the implementation of
the deliverables (5). Space utilization was calculated by considering the average monetary
impact of bringing in two new machines. Per Dave, the facility needs to be preparing for two
machines. One will be arriving in April and the other one is anticipated to arrive late summer.
Reduction in rework was calculated by multiplying an average cost to fix a sign ($250) by the
number of months in a year (12) by the average number of defects needed to be fixed per month
(5). Lastly, inventory costs were calculated by considering the average number of extra material
on hand (20) by the average cost per foot of the material. As seen below in Figure 19, ImageFirst
can anticipate an 85% ROI for this

American Kids Are Unmotivated
While it is one view that all students lack work ethic it is the view of Patrick Welsh a teacher at T.C
Williams High School that not all children lack work ethic. He says that his American students lack
motivation, self discipline, and work ethic, unlike immigrant students who he says work hard in
school (Welsh,Patrick. American Kids Are Unmotivated ). He says that in his experience young
americans blame their teachers, not themselves, for the bad grades they receive when they do not
put effort into their work (Welsh,Patrick. American Kids Are Unmotivated ). The students chose not
to work hard and the grades they receive reflect that but parents and students decide that it wasn t
there fault it was the teachers. When really they are not working hard in class. When kids were
asked what the most important factor in their performance in math is the percentage of Japanese
and Taiwanese students that answered studying hard was twice that of Americans while American
students named native intelligence, and some said the home environment. But a clear majority of
U.S. students put the responsibility on their teachers. A good teacher, they said, was the
determining factor in how well they did in math (Welsh,Patrick. American Kids Are Unmotivated ).
This shows that American students have lost their work ethic. However this also shows that not
everyone has lost their work ethic as the Asian students still value studying hard which is a value
that many American students have

Utopia by Thomas More and The Prince by Machiavelli Essay
Utopia by Thomas More and The Prince by Machiavelli
Thomas More s Utopia and Machiavelli s The Prince both concern themselves with the
fundamental issues of how a society works and maintains itself. The goals behind the two works,
however, differ considerably. The goal of Utopiais to illustrate the maintenance of an ideal
society and the goal of The Prince is to instruct a prince, or ruler, on how to maintain his state.
On the surface these two goals may seem similar but the difference lies in the way the authors
handle the subject of power. As a manual, or handbook if you will, Prince treats power as a
necessity, a goal, to be worked towards and maintained, almost at all costs. Utopia, a fantasy,
treats ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One might even say that
the people are empowered, but the ideals that truly run the society, are empowered. More s true
focus does not even lie in power, but in the seeking of ideals.
A second comparison that one could make is that the types of governments also have
inherent qualities within them concerning power. In the Prince, the government is either a
theoretical monarchy or dictatorship. Mach focuses on the manipulation of the people to main
tain power. The minor details do not matter. The importance lies in the fact that in a monarchy
or dictatorship one person has the power in a society and all the rest serve only to obey him.
Starkly different is More s creation. His society is a true communist one and it could also be
argued that it is also a democracy. Leaders are elected by the people, who make their own
decisions freely. Nothing, not even power, is owned in that society by an individual. The power
is distributed, thus empowerment. The capitalism of Machiavelli s world, the idea that the ends
justify the means strongly ties in with this contrast.
That idea stated above correlates with the next point. In an idealistic society whose goals
are justice and truth, it is impossible for one s goal to be power. More s idealistic attitude and
Mach s lack of one are both indicators of how they view

Division Of Labor In The Wealth Of Nations By Adam Smith
The Wealth of Nations written by Adam Smith, father of the economics, stated that the division of
labor, different tasks assigned to each individual in order to improve proficiency, has resulted in the
greatest improvement in the industry. Although division of labor can be seen in most industries,
the system are more noticeable and often work betterin larger corporations. For example, One man
draws out the wire, another straights it, a third cuts it, a fourth points it, a fifth grinds it at the top
for receiving the head... (pg.11). In this excerpt, each individual might be able to make one pin by
themselves, however, if ten individual divide up the labor, they can produce up to thousand pins per
day. Another excerpt, In every improved society, the farmer is generally a farer; the manufacturer,
nothing but a manufacturer... (pg.12), however, display a disadvantage view on divisionof labor.
While the division of labor are goodfor industries like the pin industry, the farmers whose tasks of
plowing the field and reaping the harvest can not be divided because they are seasonal in nature.
Also, the agricultural labor can not be more productive with the division of labor. For example, corn
in the undeveloped countries is similar in price as the ones in the developed countries, although
manufactured goods are much cheaper in the latter. In addition, there are three main factors
contributing to the success of the division of labor. One, each individual spend considerable amount

Introduction
Having spent the past Fifteen years coaching women s volleyball, I have witnessed many
performance issues that come with a lack of nutrition from female athletes as well as my
daughters. I am a Head coach for a small college in Merced California. It is located in the central
valley where there are many farming communities. I am the head women s volleyball coach and as
well as the strength and conditioning coach for my athletes. I am in my fourth year here and started
the program from the ground.
The level that I coach is NAIA and types of players that I recruited are scholarship players but at a
mid level talent. We are a small budget team trying to grow to the NCAA DII level. My team is
diverse ranging from multiple ethnic backgrounds. They all have very different eating habits that
can cause them to perform at very different levels. The other concern is having half of the team
living off campus and the other half on campus which can hurt by having food or not having food to
eat healthy enough. The benefit of adequate nutrition contributing to successful athletic
performance is well known, but not completely understood and applied among athletes. The

All The Bright Places By Jennifer Niven
All The Bright Places by Jennifer Niven
1.Making Personal Connections.
All The Bright Places is a story about love and depression, where a boy, Finch, helps Violet find
the will to live, while he has trouble keeping his head above water. My family has gone through the
stress, anger and sadness of depression, too: my cousin, Mitch, committed suicide by hanging
himself. Although it has been two years, the pain has still not completely gone away.
Violet Markey has lost her older sister (and best friend) in a fatal car crash on an icy bridge. She
is overwhelmed by guilt, as she was the one who begged her sister to take her home, and told her
to take the shortcut, ultimately leading to Eleanor s death. When this happens, she loses friends
and is afraid to make any, afraid she will lose them too. After losing Mitch, I also lost my Nana
and Papa (grandmother and grandfather). My cousin, Dimity had bowel cancer and although
she is alive and well now, it is still scary to think how close we were to losing her. This made me
realize, unlike other people my age, how close death is in our everyday lives, and, unlike
cartoon character, we cannot peel ourselves from the rubble and complete our quest or journey.
Losing some of the major people in my life has, just like Violet, made me scared to let go of
people and even more scared of letting them into my heart. However, just like with Violet, her
friends help her world to grow.
Violet is also a writer, and although her words

Individuality In The Pedestrian And Fahrenheit 451 By Ray...
In life, it is commonly stated that A man who doesn t think for himself, does not think at all. This
statement is supported in The Pedestrian and Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury. In Fahrenheit 451
the main character finds himself bound to the expectations of society and robotically follows every
order that is given to him without second thoughts. This leads to him being unknowingly unhappy
and having a hollow existence. But as the story progressed the main character became more aware
of the person that he truly was, and when he had finally discovered that person, he was truly happy.
On the contrary, In The Pedestriana lone individual who is different from society is able to think
for himself, thus giving him freedom from the bonds of society and the ability to embrace his
individuality. Making him free and happy. In both stories, we see how individuality releases
people from the shackles of their society and finally allows them to be truly happy with who they
are. In the novel Fahrenheit 451and the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Nightfall Brings Panic
It seems that when night falls, the mind appears to go into a state of panic. Nighttime brings to
mind many horror movies scenario. Well they do when you re in the middle of nowhere, with a
couple of friends and a machete. At least in my mind that s what happened. A state of pure terror
seems to sink in, and I believe the worst scenario that a random stranger is coming inside my tent
and slaughtering me while I m asleep. To begin with, when the day started, it seemed that the
scenery was beautiful and peaceful. It appeared that the same place can have a different
perspective at the drop of the sun. I had never gone camping; it always seemed like a fun thing to
do with the right people. My friends wanted to celebrate my seniority and almost graduating,
since they were in college themselves, and knew how important senior year of high school was.
We were thinking of going on a road trip somewhere far from Fresno. We joked for a bit about
going camping, and then it just seemed to happen. The whole ride there we all seemed happy
with chatter, catching up on our gossip. In total we were three girls and two guys. Once we
arrived I could smell the deep aura of pine and green woods. The trees were basked in sun,
giving of a cool shade; the branches of the trees seemed to follow the movements of the silent
breeze that passed. Birds seem to fly by slowly almost lazily, there chirping heard from a distant
as they passed. As soon as that tent was up I went on a walk to go exploring.

Consumer Behaviour Notes
Chapter 1
Read pages 4 6 and 22 for digital revolution
Consumer behaviour is defined as the behaviour that consumers undertake in seeking, purchasing,
using, evaluating and disposing of products and services that they expect will satisfy their personal
needs.
Personal and organisational consumers (page 9)
The personal consumer buys good and services for his or her own use, for use by the whole
household, for another member of the household or as a gift for a friend.
In all these contexts, the goods are bought for final use by individuals, who are referred to as end

Targeting is selecting one or more of the segments identified for the company to pursue.
Positioning is developing a distinct image for the product or service in the mind of the consumer,
an image that will differentiate the offering from competing ones and squarely communicate to
consumers that the particular product or service will fulfil their needs better than competing brands.
Chapter 2
Mass marketing is offering the same product and marketing mix to all consumers.
Repositioning is accomplished by changing the promotional appeal, the distribution strategy or the
price, based on the characteristics of a new segment or changing characteristics of the existing
segment.
Bases for segmentation page 35 onwards
The first step in developing a segmentation strategy is to select the most appropriate base(s) on
which to segment the market.
Geographic segmentation the market is divided by location (state, region, location, housing density,
and climate).
Demographic segmentation refers to the identifiable and measureable statistics of a population

The Effects Of Media And Stereotypes On Women
Women Leaders and
The Effects of Media and Stereotypes Confidence, integrity, purpose, empowerment,
determination, and courage. These are some of the many words associated with leadership.
Regardless of gender, these words apply to all leaders. It is no longer a question of what women
leaders are, but rather why there are not women leaders. Today s society focuses on fulfilling
leadership positions with males, not because females do not have the same skills and knowledge as
men, but because people associate men with leaders. There are various daily obstacles that women
face in the attempt towards leadership roles including prejudice beliefs, resistance due to
stereotypes, leadership styles, family life demands and underinvestment in social capital. We have
found that through depictions in the media, women are not seen as effective leaders in the same
sense as men. These media findings and various research techniques provide evidence for the lack
of female presence in leadership positions.

As part of our research, we Googled different images associated with women and leadership.
When you Google women leaders, what do you see? Countless images of beautiful women appear.
Women have always had to walk a fine line when it comes to their femininity in the workforce. If a

A Day I Was A New Beginning For My Life
Settling in new country isn t always easy. A day I arrived in Vermont seemed to be a new
beginning for my life. I came to Vermont on December 09th, 2008. I was about 14 years old,
and I had no idea what I was thinking of. I was so confused, and I didn t speak English at all. I
thought I was lost because I saw so many diverse people I ve never seen in my life. I felt
uncomfortable to be here because I didn t understand what it was going on this state. I thought that
I was in wrong place because it wasn t easy for me to start living in Vermont. Living in Vermont
made feel like I was totally blank in my mindbecause I felt dislocated and insecure. For example, I
was scared to go outside and hang out with other friends because I thought they would hit me or
laugh at me. I remember playing around with my neighbors; they came to me and asked me if I
could play with them. I was totally lost because I didn t understand what they asked me. They
kept mumbling words I couldn t understand at all. I felt unwanted to be with them because they
didn t speak my native language. As I left them, they started laughing so hard, and I was afraid of
asking them what they were laughing. As long as they kept laughing, I suddenly ran to my room
with anger. When I got into my room, I started nodding my head and wondering what I could I do
to just forget what I saw a outside. I was so worried because I thought that this country wasn t

The United States Of America And Spain Essay
The late 1800s was a high tension and tumultuous time for both the United States of America and
Spain. Spanish Colonialism had long been receding from its once powerful stronghold in the 16th
and 17th centuries, and in the 1890s, the United States would make certain to diminish the last of
Spain s outlets. The precedent for the American, superpower perspective of the late 1800s is in
large part due to President James Monroe s Doctrine establishing the United Statesas the sole entity
of social, political, and economic interest in the Western Hemisphere. The Monroe Doctrine clearly
spells out that any territorial advances (or in this case, any territorial claims, whatsoever) would be
recognized as an act of aggression and the U.S. would act accordingly (hint, hint war). This
document shaped the United States as the sole enforcer of both commerce and democracy in the
Western Hemisphere in the minds of its constituents. Thusly, it is the least bit unusual to see
President McKinley asking to declare war against the Spanish in defense of his country s interest.
President William McKinleys Declaration of War is written to the Congress of the United States as
a plea to go to war in defense of American interests and the Cuban people. The document was
written in 1898, and its objective was simple: persuade Congress to allow him to declare war.
Although the document may shape William McKinley as a strong proponent of the now called
Spanish American War, he very much wished to

There are a large number of possible configurations of engine, electric machine(s)2, clutches,
gearing, and transmissions that can result in an HEV. These are grouped in four classes in this
paper. Based on an examination of the architectures, these classes are: beltdriven starter/generators
on the front of the engine, crank shaft mounted motor/generators on the rear of the engine, series
/parallel hybrids, and combination hybrids with a mixture of the previous configurations. BELT
DRIVEN STARTER/GENERATOR The first architecture is the entry level to hybridization. In this
architecture the engine stop start function is implemented with a starter/generator that is typically
belt driven. The Toyota Crown with the Toyota Hybrid System Mild (THS M) architecture shown
in figure 1a is exemplary. The traditional alternator has been replaced Some powertrain features
such as clutches and differentials are not included in these diagrams in order to keep them from

Differential Equations Of A Nonlinear System
5.1 Linearization
It can be seen clearly by the system s equation that the model belongs to a nonlinear system.
Normal differential equations can be created by the conversion of the system into state space
model format. When a control law is designed, Lagrange equations of motion (9) are reformatted.
To be able to carry this out, a state vector is introduced which is as follows. x= (Оё Оё М‡ )^T
To be able to apply the LQR technique on the system, linearization is important. Therefore the
nonlinear model of the system turns into: Оё М€= D^( 1) CОё М‡ D^( 1) G+D^( 1) Hu (14)
After putting the variables of the system matrices in the above generalisation and their derivatives,
the system equation is as follows: x М‡=(в– (0 I@0 D^( 1) C))x+(в– (0@гЂ– DгЂ—^( 1)
C))+(в– (0@D^( 1) H))u (15)
Where I and 0 are identity and zero matrices respectively.
The system equation can be rewritten as: x М‡=f(x)+g(x)u (16)
Where
f(x)=(в– (0 I@0 D^( 1) C))x+(в– (0@гЂ– DгЂ—^( 1) C)) (17) g(x)=(в– (0@D^( 1) H)) (18)

Time To Rebuild; The Department of Defense Must be...
The Department of Defense takes up the majority of the US budget; it not only pulls in over a
trillion dollars of taxpayer money yearly, but it also is unable to accurately account for the exact
whereabouts of those funds year after year. The DoD does, of course, offer its own budget,
however, due to the byzantine and ineffective nature of the Federal Bureaucracy, it is impossible
to verify if the money is even so much as used for its intended purpose. Looking at this budget,
two sections stand out as bloated, which is a statement in a budget that is packed with Pork
barrel spending: Procurement, and Maintenance. Ultimately, should these two areas of the
budget be reasonably downsized, and the others thoroughly audited, the DoD s operating
expenses could be reduced drastically, much to the taxpayer s benefit. Procurement is, by far,
the easiest section of the budget to pare down; a few simple reforms in regards to the process by
which government contracts are granted, coupled with the elimination of several pork barrel
programs, could save federal government millions of dollars. In regards to contracts, all deals
should be strictly held to the original price and time frame; While that might seem like an
obvious step, it is in fact a great leap forward for the DoD, where most programs go over budget.
A Poignant example of this is the F 35 fighter jet, which has cost taxpayers 100 billion more than
expected, and is 7 years behind on production. Further more, if regulations

Theme Of Death In The Aeneid
Throughout the Aeneid by Virgil, death is a reoccurring theme and each death has its own
significance to the poem. The death of Creusa in book two shows that Aeneas will need a new
wife and the death of Pallas in book ten foreshadows Turnus s future. One of the most interesting
deaths is that of Dido because the responsibility for Didos death falls on multiple characters: Anna,
the goddesses, Venus, Juno and Rumor, and Dido herself.
Dido is one of the many characters who are responsible for her own death. Before the appearance
of Aeneas in Carthage, Dido was married to another man, Sychaeus. However, Sychaeus was
murdered by Dido s brother who was jealous of his power and money leaving Dido a widow
(Aen, 4.23 25). As a widow, Dido made a vow Never to pledge [herself] in marriage again
showing her commitment to her first and only husband who she passionately loved (Aen,4.19).
The importance of this to Dido s death is that she broke her vow on account that Aeneas was the
first man that she has loved since Sychaeus. However, this love is artificial because it is not her
love but love created by Venus. Even though she has this passion for Aeneas flowing through her
veins, she questions herself and whether it will be worthy to love this man and break the vow.
Dido is responsible for her own death because she was unable to clear her mind and see the
dangers of falling in love with Aeneas and the greater the danger of breaking her vow to Sychaeus.
One reason that she decides

The True Power Of Music
Music is an important factor to the life of every human. It invokes the the strongest of emotions
and can trigger long forgotten memories, even after years of suppression. Humans tend to take the
mysterious power of music for granted, however after this paper I hope to reveal the true power of
music and how it could be the greatest things to have ever happen. All throughout history, music
follows and evolves with mankind to become a natural occurrence where without music, the world
would feel empty, why might that be? Ben Mauk, a contributor to Life s Little Mysteries, believes,
As stimulation for food and sex are important for an organism s survival, the fact that similar neural
activity is observed in responses to features in music suggests that there could be some evolutionary
advantage to the ability to hear or hum a good tune (Mauk). While Mauk s belief of music s
existence is because of instinctive stimulation, I believe music is popular because of the multitude
patterns that the human braincan follow. The human brainattempts to find patterns in everything it
performs, for example a worker performing their daily tasks but when they break that system they
may be unsure what to do with their extra time. Even though we might disagree in the invention of
music but we could both agree on that music brings people together. On the other hand, Tom de
Castella, a writer for BBC News Magazine, would argue, It can be lonely travelling through public

The three Abrahamic religions share not just the same Supreme Being but they also share several
common themes. Many people view these three religions as separate entities but are more related

A simple commonality between the Abrahamic religions is that they all have a center of worship

Bill Fontan An Internationally Reputable Composer And...
Bill Fontana is an internationally reputable composer and pioneering American sound sculptor born
April 25th 1947 in Cleveland, Ohio. Since the mid to late 70 s Fontana has used sound as a
sculptural medium, able to interact and transform our perceptions of visual and architectural spaces.
Fontana is constantly engaged with the idea that at any moment there will be something musical to
hear in the coherent soundpatterns around him. His sound sculptures use the human or natural
environment surrounding as a living source of musical information, often creating multiple
networks of live listening points that relay real time acoustics to a common listening place or
sculptural site. All of Fontana s works produced over the years experiment with process of listening,
recording, relocating and representing found sound patterns. Through discussion of his works and
the process undertaken in his listening for different found sound, the technologies used in recording
and relaying of these sounds to site, and the sites themselves through his works can be seen to

NASA depends on the sales prediction, inventory level, production capacity constraint and other
economic factors. Therefore, the uncertainty of the inner company transfer would weaken the
accuracy of the production estimates, and in turn affect the determination of the total fixed costs.
The determination of both two numbers above involves some uncertainties. Therefore, volume

Symbolism In Jacob Carol
Marley was dead, to begin with there s no doubt whatever about that... Old Marley was as dead
as a door nail. (Stave 1, Pg. 9) A Christmas Carol s character Jacob Marley plays an important role
in the main character, Ebenezer Scrooge s growth. In the novel, Mr. Marley, when he appears as
a spirit to inform Scrooge that the christmas spirits would be visiting him, he appears in chains
along with cash boxes, deeds, keys, padlocks, and ledgers. It is said in the book that he chose to
wear the chain as well as the other objects voluntarily. However, the reason for Marley s doing so
in his afterlife was never revealed. I believe that the symbolic meaning behind Marley s locks
and chains have to do with his wealth, him being tied to his job, and his greed during his
lifetime. I feel that this symbolism also played a large part in Scrooge s growth throughout the
novel because it further drilled the idea into his head that if he doesn t change his attitude
toward life he d end up chained down just as Marley is. It seems as if he chooses to wear the
chain freely, but he is never truly free of his own sin and regret. The chains and objects
symbolize his wealth because when he was alive, Marley worked in a counting house. In
modern terms a counting house would be like a loan office, but increased interest was charged to
loan clients money. He and Scrooge seemed like similar people, and if this was the case, he may
have gained wealth in life just as Scrooge did; by working

The Timeless Power of Les Miserables
The book Les Miserables, written by Victor Hugo in 1862, created a sensation throughout the world

recently the musical, but the book contains greater detail and adds a deeper understanding of
Hugo s epic story than the movie or musical portray. Regretfully, few people in World society take
the time to relish this masterpiece. Living in a fast paced world, many people today consider

Finally, the theme of Les Miserables still entices people in this decade. Dwight Hillis describes

Legal Positivists And Natural Law
An unjust law cannot be a valid law In the light of Natural Law and Positivist theories, assess the
accuracy of the above statement. To what extent are legal positivists and natural law theorists
accurate in terms of the idea that an unjust law cannot be a valid law ? In this essay i will
attempt to define the concept of the validity of law in relation to both natural law theorists and
positivist theorists. For the purpose of this essay I will define validity of a law as Having legal
force; effective or binding (The Free Dictionary). The main reason for the continual debate
between both theories is that they are both very similar although they may appear to be at
contrary ends of each spectrum. Natural law theorists believe that in order for a law to be valid
it must have some moral principle therefore if laws which are enacted in statues have no
authority, they are not moral. Whereas positivists support and emphasise the importance of a
division between morality and law. I will begin by outlining both theories. I will then move onto
asses the accuracy of the following statement, An unjust law cannot be a valid law this includes
establishing the similarities and differences of both theories; in order to do this effectively it is

Vitiligo Disease

the skin, or they will destroy themselves. Melanin is an important pigment that gives the skin its
main color. People of all races may be effected, mostly between the ages of 20. Dark skin people

series of questions. The doctor may also check the family medical history and run tests for the
condition. Some tests that might be done are blood tests, eye exam, and a biopsy of the affected
skin. Once discovered there are no known ways to prevent or cure it. There are ways to show the
appearance of normal skin by using cosmetics, UV light therapy, corticosteroid creams, and skin
grafting. Other ways of managing the disease by depigmentation and even tattooing the skin.
There is no way of knowing if it will spread slowly or faster depending on the person. Some
treatments may work, but can possibly take a while to work and cause many side

  • 2. Band of Brothers And Today Essay Band of Brothers And Today What is going on in the world today? Are there any similarities with how the world was run 65 years ago? The 2002 HBO miniseries Band of Brothers was created and produced by a crew with numerous amounts of well known Hollywood names. Two men with some of the biggest names in Hollywood that backed this miniseries with their talent were Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks. The miniseries was released in 2002, only a year after the events of September 11th. The show was aired on HBO during prime time hours, aimed at Americans who may not have had a strong sense of this era in history. Band of Brothers stresses the bond between men who have willingly come together to fight for their country because they felt it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... September 11th 2001, an act of terror that screamed a cry throughout the world, and will forever be in the hearts of many. Hundreds of firemen and police officers gave their lives without thinking of there own. They could think only of the others who were in danger. The brotherhood came after the disaster. Millions of Americans came together to show there support for others who had been directly affected. The attacks of 9/11 forever affected Americans in the fact that they were forever united with a bond stronger than anything a terrorist could break. Band of Brothers shows that when put to the test, the bonds Americans create amongst themselves is greater than any evil that is put in front of them. This was shown in the horrific tales of D Day. As Lieutenant Richard Winters said, when referring to the solidarity of his company He s behind enemy lines, on D Day.... Does he holler help? No... he hollers I m sorry lieutenant, I m sorry, I goofed My God it s beautiful when you think of a guy who s that dedicated to his company, his buddies, that he apologizes for getting hit. (We Stand Alone Together, Spielberg) Although Americans may not be fighting a battle on the front lines, they have come to fight a battle of their daily lives, and showing the opposition that they will not be ... • 3. The History of Modernist Literature Modernism, as an artistic movement, was notoriously explicit about depicting sex. Indeed much of the history of Modernist literature involves censorship and legal embargoes against work which was deemed too obscene to be permitted general availability and Modernist novels ranging from Joyce s Ulysses to Henry Miller s Tropic of Cancer would have to overcome legal hurdles before they could be read. The importance of Paris as a center for publication activity cannot be understated here: both James Joyce and Henry Miller were able to have their work published in Paris when no one in an English speaking country would take the risk. But this was established before Modernism a generation earlier, Oscar Wilde s play SalomГ© was written in French, but was banned from being staged in London for its religious (rather than sexual) content. It is worth asking, then, what role was played by explicit sexuality in defining Modernist art and Modernist consciousness. An examination of works by Henry Miller, AnaГЇs Nin, and Djuna Barnes may demonstrate that, to a large extent, the description of sexuality served a two fold purpose: it helped Modernism define itself against the proprieties of earlier literature, but it also represented an inward turn for art. By emphasizing the interiority of consciousness, Modernist novels were making an implicit turn away from dealing with the outer political turmoil of the decades which produced not only Modernism, but the two World Wars. In the early 1900 s, President Roosevelt got together with Harvard, Princeton and Yale to ban the flying wedge (a very dangerous play in football that caused 18 deaths the previous year.) The NCAA is an organization that was created to improve collegiate sports, and while it has expanded and done so, there have been challenges and controversy along the way. • 6. Leadership Theory Analysis And Application Leadership Theory Analysis and Application There are many different leadership theories that have been proposed, tested, and studied over the years. Many organizations utilize these theories and practices to collect and analyze data within their own organizations which may allow them to find ways of increasing the effectiveness of their company. Although there are not any theories deemed completely perfect in leadership, many have been given lots of validity based on the and studies done involving them. This paper will analyze and discuss different leadership theories including; the contingency theory, the transformational theory, and the leader member exchange theory. This paper will also discuss the most effective leadership theory in a current organization. Contingency Theory The Contingency Theory is a theory based on the notion that the effectiveness of a leader is correlated with the leadership style of that leader and the situation in which they are presented with (Northouse, 2013). Contingency theory suggests that there are two different leadership styles, one is relationship motivated, and the other is task motivated. These styles are measured by the LPC (least preferred coworker) scale created by Fiedler, which gives the leaders a score. The leaders that score low on the scale are considered to be task motivated leaders, while the ones that score high are considered to be relationship motivated (Northouse, 2013). I guess this discovery determines how Alexandria has stayed in tact for so long. But the bigger problem is, how are they going to get rid of these walkers so they don t become a larger threat. This is where the episode kind of lost me...Ricks plan is to basically lead the infected 20 miles away. Doesn t this seem a bit ridiculous? Why couldn t they set them on fire? I find it hard to believe they couldn t think of something other than this complicated and insane idea to lead infected away with noise and using Daryl as bait. I understand that it makes things interesting but it just seemed like such a stretch to me. Another grievence I had with this episode is the character, Carter. Mr. Kozol provides his own socially conscious and very informative view of the issues facing the children and educators in this poverty ravaged neighborhood. Kozol describes an intimate conversation with a group of children in the sanctuary of St. Ann s in which several of the children reveal that they miss their fathers who are in prison. One of the children, Elio, even fibs about his father coming home the following week. Later he admits that this is not true but will not admit where his father actually is. During his time in the Mott Haven community, Kozol, at times, served as a father figure for the children who yearn to share what is in their hearts with their own fathers. Kozol eloquently describes his role, I once told another man I know, who fills a role somewhat like mine among the children, that I felt we were like gleaners in the Bible, not in fields of grain but in a field of love that can t be harvested by those to whom the love rightly belongs. (Kozol 130). There are other men living in Mott Haven that also fill that void. Several members of St. Ann s parish offer supervision and support. Other men direct athletic programs giving boys and young men an outlet and alternative to destructive activities. Still, this involvement cannot quench the desire that the children express to be with their own fathers. Kozol points out that it is the women of the community that play a more consistent role in caring for and nurturing the children. Our base case outlook for average annual real growth between 2015 and 2020 is between 3 and 4 percent Lower global commodity prices are an important factor supporting stronger economic growth. Although economies that are dependent on commodity exports may suffer, lower input prices for industry as well as lower fuel prices for households will provide a boost to aggregate demand and global growth. We expect emerging economies to continue to grow by more than 4 percent (contributing $16.2 trillion to global growth through 2020 at market exchange rates), while the growth rate of advanced economies is forecast to exceed 2 percent (contributing $13.5 trillion through 2020) for the first time since 2010. The United States is leading the recovery among advanced markets, and we expect the country to be a significant contributor to global growth through 2020. However, we anticipate economic performance to continue to diverge within both the emerging and developed market groupings based on key policy choices, as governments grapple with structural reforms in the context of reduced fiscal and monetary stimulus. He says that in his experience young americans blame their teachers, not themselves, for the bad grades they receive when they do not put effort into their work (Welsh,Patrick. When really they are not working hard in class. When kids were asked what the most important factor in their performance in math is the percentage of Japanese and Taiwanese students that answered studying hard was twice that of Americans while American students named native intelligence, and some said the home environment. But a clear majority of U.S. students put the responsibility on their teachers. A good teacher, they said, was the determining factor in how well they did in math (Welsh,Patrick. The goals behind the two works, however, differ considerably. The goal of Utopiais to illustrate the maintenance of an ideal society and the goal of The Prince is to instruct a prince, or ruler, on how to maintain his state. On the surface these two goals may seem similar but the difference lies in the way the authors handle the subject of power. In the Prince, the government is either a theoretical monarchy or dictatorship. Mach focuses on the manipulation of the people to main tain power. The minor details do not matter. The importance lies in the fact that in a monarchy or dictatorship one person has the power in a society and all the rest serve only to obey him. Starkly different is More s creation. • 17. Division Of Labor In The Wealth Of Nations By Adam Smith The Wealth of Nations written by Adam Smith, father of the economics, stated that the division of labor, different tasks assigned to each individual in order to improve proficiency, has resulted in the greatest improvement in the industry. Although division of labor can be seen in most industries, the system are more noticeable and often work betterin larger corporations. For example, One man draws out the wire, another straights it, a third cuts it, a fourth points it, a fifth grinds it at the top for receiving the head... (pg.11). In this excerpt, each individual might be able to make one pin by themselves, however, if ten individual divide up the labor, they can produce up to thousand pins per day. Another excerpt, In every improved society, the farmer is generally a farer; the manufacturer, nothing but a manufacturer... (pg.12), however, display a disadvantage view on divisionof labor. While the division of labor are goodfor industries like the pin industry, the farmers whose tasks of plowing the field and reaping the harvest can not be divided because they are seasonal in nature. Also, the agricultural labor can not be more productive with the division of labor. For example, corn in the undeveloped countries is similar in price as the ones in the developed countries, although manufactured goods are much cheaper in the latter. All The Bright Places is a story about love and depression, where a boy, Finch, helps Violet find the will to live, while he has trouble keeping his head above water. My family has gone through the stress, anger and sadness of depression, too: my cousin, Mitch, committed suicide by hanging himself. Although it has been two years, the pain has still not completely gone away. Violet Markey has lost her older sister (and best friend) in a fatal car crash on an icy bridge. She is overwhelmed by guilt, as she was the one who begged her sister to take her home, and told her to take the shortcut, ultimately leading to Eleanor s death. When this happens, she loses friends and is afraid to make any, afraid she will lose them too. After losing Mitch, I also lost my Nana and Papa (grandmother and grandfather). My cousin, Dimity had bowel cancer and although she is alive and well now, it is still scary to think how close we were to losing her. This made me realize, unlike other people my age, how close death is in our everyday lives, and, unlike cartoon character, we cannot peel ourselves from the rubble and complete our quest or journey. This statement is supported in The Pedestrian and Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury. In Fahrenheit 451 the main character finds himself bound to the expectations of society and robotically follows every order that is given to him without second thoughts. This leads to him being unknowingly unhappy and having a hollow existence. But as the story progressed the main character became more aware of the person that he truly was, and when he had finally discovered that person, he was truly happy. On the contrary, In The Pedestriana lone individual who is different from society is able to think for himself, thus giving him freedom from the bonds of society and the ability to embrace his individuality. • 26. The United States Of America And Spain Essay The late 1800s was a high tension and tumultuous time for both the United States of America and Spain. Spanish Colonialism had long been receding from its once powerful stronghold in the 16th and 17th centuries, and in the 1890s, the United States would make certain to diminish the last of Spain s outlets. The precedent for the American, superpower perspective of the late 1800s is in large part due to President James Monroe s Doctrine establishing the United Statesas the sole entity of social, political, and economic interest in the Western Hemisphere. The Monroe Doctrine clearly spells out that any territorial advances (or in this case, any territorial claims, whatsoever) would be recognized as an act of aggression and the U.S. would act accordingly (hint, hint war). This document shaped the United States as the sole enforcer of both commerce and democracy in the Western Hemisphere in the minds of its constituents. Thusly, it is the least bit unusual to see President McKinley asking to declare war against the Spanish in defense of his country s interest. President William McKinleys Declaration of War is written to the Congress of the United States as a plea to go to war in defense of American interests and the Cuban people. The document was written in 1898, and its objective was simple: persuade Congress to allow him to declare war. There are a large number of possible configurations of engine, electric machine(s)2, clutches, gearing, and transmissions that can result in an HEV. These are grouped in four classes in this paper. Based on an examination of the architectures, these classes are: beltdriven starter/generators on the front of the engine, crank shaft mounted motor/generators on the rear of the engine, series /parallel hybrids, and combination hybrids with a mixture of the previous configurations. BELT DRIVEN STARTER/GENERATOR The first architecture is the entry level to hybridization. In this architecture the engine stop start function is implemented with a starter/generator that is typically belt driven. The Toyota Crown with the Toyota Hybrid System Mild (THS M) architecture shown in figure 1a is exemplary. • 28. Differential Equations Of A Nonlinear System 5.1 Linearization It can be seen clearly by the system s equation that the model belongs to a nonlinear system. Normal differential equations can be created by the conversion of the system into state space model format. When a control law is designed, Lagrange equations of motion (9) are reformatted. To be able to carry this out, a state vector is introduced which is as follows. x= (Оё Оё М‡ )^T To be able to apply the LQR technique on the system, linearization is important. Therefore the nonlinear model of the system turns into: Оё М€= D^( 1) CОё М‡ D^( 1) G+D^( 1) Hu (14) After putting the variables of the system matrices in the above generalisation and their derivatives, the system equation is as follows: x М‡=(в– (0 I@0 D^( 1) C))x+(в– (0@гЂ– DгЂ—^( 1) C))+(в– (0@D^( 1) H))u (15) Where I and 0 are identity and zero matrices respectively. The system equation can be rewritten as: x М‡=f(x)+g(x)u (16) Where f(x)=(в– (0 I@0 D^( 1) C))x+(в– (0@гЂ– DгЂ—^( 1) C)) (17) g(x)=(в– (0@D^( 1) H)) (18) 5.2 Linear ... The Department of Defense takes up the majority of the US budget; it not only pulls in over a trillion dollars of taxpayer money yearly, but it also is unable to accurately account for the exact whereabouts of those funds year after year. The DoD does, of course, offer its own budget, however, due to the byzantine and ineffective nature of the Federal Bureaucracy, it is impossible to verify if the money is even so much as used for its intended purpose. Looking at this budget, two sections stand out as bloated, which is a statement in a budget that is packed with Pork barrel spending: Procurement, and Maintenance. Ultimately, should these two areas of the budget be reasonably downsized, and the others thoroughly audited, the DoD s operating expenses could be reduced drastically, much to the taxpayer s benefit. Procurement is, by far, the easiest section of the budget to pare down; a few simple reforms in regards to the process by which government contracts are granted, coupled with the elimination of several pork barrel programs, could save federal government millions of dollars. In regards to contracts, all deals should be strictly held to the original price and time frame; While that might seem like an obvious step, it is in fact a great leap forward for the DoD, where most programs go over budget. A Poignant example of this is the F 35 fighter jet, which has cost taxpayers 100 billion more than expected, and is 7 years behind on production. Further more, if regulations ... • 30. Theme Of Death In The Aeneid Throughout the Aeneid by Virgil, death is a reoccurring theme and each death has its own significance to the poem. The death of Creusa in book two shows that Aeneas will need a new wife and the death of Pallas in book ten foreshadows Turnus s future. One of the most interesting deaths is that of Dido because the responsibility for Didos death falls on multiple characters: Anna, the goddesses, Venus, Juno and Rumor, and Dido herself. Dido is one of the many characters who are responsible for her own death. Before the appearance of Aeneas in Carthage, Dido was married to another man, Sychaeus. However, Sychaeus was murdered by Dido s brother who was jealous of his power and money leaving Dido a widow (Aen, 4.23 25). As a widow, Dido made a vow Never to pledge [herself] in marriage again showing her commitment to her first and only husband who she passionately loved (Aen,4.19). The importance of this to Dido s death is that she broke her vow on account that Aeneas was the first man that she has loved since Sychaeus. However, this love is artificial because it is not her love but love created by Venus. Even though she has this passion for Aeneas flowing through her veins, she questions herself and whether it will be worthy to love this man and break the vow. Dido is responsible for her own death because she was unable to clear her mind and see the dangers of falling in love with Aeneas and the greater the danger of breaking her vow to Sychaeus. One reason that she decides ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It invokes the the strongest of emotions and can trigger long forgotten memories, even after years of suppression. Humans tend to take the mysterious power of music for granted, however after this paper I hope to reveal the true power of music and how it could be the greatest things to have ever happen. All throughout history, music follows and evolves with mankind to become a natural occurrence where without music, the world would feel empty, why might that be? Ben Mauk, a contributor to Life s Little Mysteries, believes, As stimulation for food and sex are important for an organism s survival, the fact that similar neural activity is observed in responses to features in music suggests that there could be some evolutionary advantage to the ability to hear or hum a good tune (Mauk). While Mauk s belief of music s existence is because of instinctive stimulation, I believe music is popular because of the multitude patterns that the human braincan follow. The human brainattempts to find patterns in everything it performs, for example a worker performing their daily tasks but when they break that system they may be unsure what to do with their extra time. Even though we might disagree in the invention of music but we could both agree on that music brings people together. Since the mid to late 70 s Fontana has used sound as a sculptural medium, able to interact and transform our perceptions of visual and architectural spaces. Fontana is constantly engaged with the idea that at any moment there will be something musical to hear in the coherent soundpatterns around him. His sound sculptures use the human or natural environment surrounding as a living source of musical information, often creating multiple networks of live listening points that relay real time acoustics to a common listening place or sculptural site. All of Fontana s works produced over the years experiment with process of listening, recording, relocating and representing found sound patterns. Through discussion of his works and the process undertaken in his listening for different found sound, the technologies used in recording and relaying of these sounds to site, and the sites themselves through his works can be seen to complicate the idea of medium within his practice. (Stave 1, Pg. 9) A Christmas Carol s character Jacob Marley plays an important role in the main character, Ebenezer Scrooge s growth. In the novel, Mr. Marley, when he appears as a spirit to inform Scrooge that the christmas spirits would be visiting him, he appears in chains along with cash boxes, deeds, keys, padlocks, and ledgers. It is said in the book that he chose to wear the chain as well as the other objects voluntarily. However, the reason for Marley s doing so in his afterlife was never revealed. I believe that the symbolic meaning behind Marley s locks and chains have to do with his wealth, him being tied to his job, and his greed during his lifetime. I feel that this symbolism also played a large part in Scrooge s growth throughout the novel because it further drilled the idea into his head that if he doesn t change his attitude toward life he d end up chained down just as Marley is. It seems as if he chooses to wear the chain freely, but he is never truly free of his own sin and regret. The chains and objects symbolize his wealth because when he was alive, Marley worked in a counting house. In modern terms a counting house would be like a loan office, but increased interest was charged to loan clients money. He and Scrooge seemed like similar people, and if this was the case, he may have gained wealth in life just as Scrooge did; by working ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

To what extent are legal positivists and natural law theorists accurate in terms of the idea that an unjust law cannot be a valid law ? In this essay i will attempt to define the concept of the validity of law in relation to both natural law theorists and positivist theorists. For the purpose of this essay I will define validity of a law as Having legal force; effective or binding (The Free Dictionary). The main reason for the continual debate between both theories is that they are both very similar although they may appear to be at contrary ends of each spectrum. Natural law theorists believe that in order for a law to be valid it must have some moral principle therefore if laws which are enacted in statues have no authority, they are not moral. Whereas positivists support and emphasise the importance of a division between morality and law. I will begin by outlining both theories. I will then move onto asses the accuracy of the following statement, An unjust law cannot be a valid law this includes establishing the similarities and differences of both theories; in order to do this effectively it is essential that a thorough understanding of both theories has been developed. Finally I will summarise my findings, An unjust law cannot be a valid law true or false? The first question we need to address in order to be able to assess this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
