Cultural Differences Of Marriage During The Colonial Times
For the Colonial families, marriage was a practical arrangement that was considered necessary for
civilization, not a source of love and affection (Cohen, 2015). In comparison to the families in today s
times, people are waiting longer to get married. Today s families are based on love and affection, and
if the love spirits perish, so does the marriage. People in today s times, not too many marriages are
arranged and if they are its cultural related reasons. Marriage should be based on your love and respect
you have for the other person, without that, I don t understand how living with someone and raising a
family would ever last, especially in today s world.
Another difference that I see is that women were basically used as property. They

Write An Essay On The Mongols
The Mongols The Mongols were able to conquer Asia in just 30 years, for many skilled reasons. They
were taught at a young age working with a bow and became very skilled arches. Second they were
great at riding horses and could shoot bows at their enemies while on the horse. They had several
different siege machines that did different things to help them. Mongols were very organized and that
was the main key to a part of their suessess. Last they were the most fierce warriors that many people
would surrender without even trying to put up a fight. The Mongols were skilled archers, and horses
back riding. They had one composite bow made out of sinew and horn, and were skilled at shooting it
while riding there horse. With the bows they had they could shoot as far of a range from more than
350 yards, and their English longbow was only 250 yards. By ... Show more content on

They had at least over five siege machines that they had in their favor in a war or a battle. The names
of the four main ones are the catapult hurled stones, flaming liquids, the trebuchet, and the ballista.
Ballista was a very powerful one that helped the Mongols a lot, it shot large arrows that could damage
buildings and structures and kill any person or animal in its path. Then the Trebuchet was a catapult
powered by the drop of a heavy counterweight, threw objects faster than the torsion catapult. If your a
Mongol warrior and you have those two main siege machine that will over power their enemies and
don t forget the other ones they have also to do damage. The key to success with the Mongols that
helped them with their machines, and archong skills was organization. Giving them organization gave
them the power to keep all there machines and bows in order and not be a mess. That s how the

Relationship Between Convergence And Harry Potter
Convergence has become somewhat vital to the success of a screen text; the number of mediums it
engages with can, to some extent, affect how much of a fan base it creates. The power of the media
producer and the power of the media consumer interact in unpredictable ways stated by Henry
Jenkins. (2006:2) Participatory culture has, in some cases, created the potential for more enriched
franchises that surpass their original purpose, some screen texts can develop a lot further than
expected due to how well received they are. The popularity of the most recognizable film franchises
could be seen as the product of convergence within fan culture. In this essay, I am going to discuss the
relationship between Harry Potter fans and convergence and the various ways the fans have
constructed alternate views of the franchise. I will discuss how Harry Potter has become globally
successful through its convergence and fan culture.
Harry Potter is a relevant case study of convergence because it extends past its original platform,
which was books; there are now Harry Potter video games, merchandise, themed websites and, the
most recent of which, theme parks. In this case, Universal, a company in partnership with Warner
Brothers who own Harry Potter, opened a Harry Potter segment to their original theme park in 2014 in
Florida. This was an effort to bring back the former popularity it once had, such as when the first book
was written in 1997 by J.K.Rowling. The series has become a global

Arguments Against Signature Strikes
Following the terrorist attack of September 11, 2001 President Bush inspired the term War on Terror
that expressed the fight against terrorist groups. Subsequently, the use of armed aerial drones has
become the United States signature attack for counter terrorism. After the attack the Bush
administration began the target killing of suspects involved in terrorist attacks (Rowman Littlefield
2016 p.13). A variation of target killing is signature strikes in which suspected militants and anyone
considered a possible suspect is targeted based on their behavioral characteristics. In the case of a
signature strike the target is unknown. Although drones are not new, the emergence of armed drones
remains the topic of many debates. The application ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Target killing and signature strikes specifically remain quite problematic. The exercising of signature
strikes has lent a hand in killing many innocent civilians. People associate or in proximity of suspected
militants will unsuspectingly suffer the consequences. Numerous victims to signature strikes persist
with a lack of governmental acknowledgment reflecting remorse or regret to value the lives of those
they took impulsively. The main problem within the context of signature strikes concerns targeted
suspected militants whose identity are completely unknown. These suspects haven t been proven
guilty, so in a way the government may seem a little trigger happy as they kill based on inclinations
rather than certainty and refuse to consider other possibilities to assume the suspects are innocent.
Signature strikes, once again, are strikes that target and kill on the basis of patterns of behavior
mimicking that of a terrorist. A deeper look into this and we could question on who has created these
criteria of patterns of behaviors where such behaviors of militant, terrorist were derived

The United Colours Of Benetton
The definition of a brand has evolved over the years, giving it a variety of meanings. Williams (2000)
defines it as a combination of names, slogans, logos, product design, packaging, advertising and
marketing that together give particular products or services a physical, recognisable form . Another
definition describes a brand as a form of crystallised knowledge (Arvidsson 2005 p. 7). Brands can
also use as a strategy to differentiate themselves from competitors, to potentially encourage the
consumer to recognise and purchase their goods. Hart and Murphy (1998) points out that people have
used brands and marks to distinguish products since the earliest times, dating back to 2000 BC .
According to research owners of cattle, slaves, timber and crockery would burn or brand they produce
using markings or symbols, using a hot rod iron. The term branding originates from the Old Norse
Brand , which means to burn (Kurtuldu, 2008).
The United Colours of Benetton is clothing company, especially known in the 1980s for its
flamboyant advertising campaigns which communicated social issues of the time. In the earlier years,
Benetton used standard forms of traditional advertising. However, in 1983 Benetton collaborated with
creative director Olivier Toscani who would transform the brand s image forever. Their advertisements
have proven to shock and mentally stimulate the viewer; as well as develop public consciousness.
Being a particularly conventional clothing company Benetton

Micro Suites As A Solution To Vancouver’S Housing Problem.
Micro Suites as a Solution to Vancouver s Housing Problem Bienvenue à Vancouver, where people
meet unrealistic housing and living costs. It is no secret that Vancouver s housing issue is blowing out
of proportion due to the demand for more affordable housing units. The problem is not a question of
production, but the type of housing that is being supplied (Gold, 2016). However, this would take a
great deal of time and nationwide discussion amongst lawmakers and the government to solve. While
the nation is busy talking about the housing problem of Vancouver, some developers and innovators
propose to adopt the idea of micro suites to help solve the issue. Micro suites, micro apartments, micro
units, micro housing or micro living all fall ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This may be a reflection of how designers have shaped spaces to meet how people nowadays live.
According to the City of Vancouver s zoning and development by law, no more than one person shall
occupy a micro dwelling and it must have a floor area of at least 29.7 sq. m. or 319.69 sq. ft. Because
of these numbers mandated by the City of Vancouver, Vancouverites are not expected to be
experiencing to live in smaller conditions. However, places like Japan, Hong Kong, New York and
San Francisco have micro dwelling units smaller than 320 sq. ft, which shows that there are people
who are willing to live the micro life and make the community around them into their extended space.
According to Sam Baron, 29, who has lived in a 248 sq. ft. space for two years, states that the space
was comfortable, functional, and allowed him central access between his work and school (Bellett,
2015). However, some studies show that there are dangers in living in a confined space and how micro
living is really not for everyone. Developers, in theory, design and build these homes to market to the
single young professionals who spend most of their day outside of their homes. This is assuming a sort
of stress free, constantly healthy young person. Someone who loses their job or is ill, or breaks up

Disease Is The Biggest Money Maker Of Our Economy
Disease is the biggest money maker in our economy, by John H. Tobe. This quote emphasis on the
impact diseases have on the economy. In well developed countries, people have different sources of

of poverty. Diseases, is among the biggest issues in Africa. Since people can not get proper treatment

Disadvantages Of Virtual Reality
Virtual reality technology has been utilized in many fields since the years following the second World
War. Pilots trained for flying and medical doctors even practiced surgeries. As time has progressed this
virtual reality has been improved. By the early 1990 s visual effects were paired with audio to enhance
the experience even further (Schafer 2016). This gave way to what many know as contemporary
virtual reality, wherein participants wear a headpiece that projects an augmented version of reality
combining sight and sound. This technology is commonly used by gamers for entertainment purposes,
but has more recently come under the investigation of medical professionals all over the world
wondering if this technology could be of use to them. A number of studies have been published
revealing the benefits of virtual reality technology being used as therapy for a number of different
populations. Virtual reality technology needs to be more widely utilized in the medical field because it
has to ability to be fine tuned to the needs of all patients, it can be used to treat both physical and
psychological illnesses, and these improvements can be observed from numerical results.
Accompanying the ever improving, vastly changing world of technology has come the concept of
virtual reality. As it has existed most recently in the mainstream to serve entertainment purposes, it has
also made its appearance in the medical world. Virtual reality technology is being implemented as

Capital Financing And Cash Management
Corporate Finance The chief financial officer of your company understands it is impossible to grow
and flourish without new capital. Investment from outside or inside the firm generates new processes
and services, and therefore new cash flows, that add value to the firm. Should we build a new factory,
upgrade an existing one, or produce offshore? Would it be better to lease or buy an expensive piece of
manufacturing equipment or computer system? Should we acquire a significant competitor or
supplier? These are indicative of the various forms capital budgeting, capital financing and cash
management can take. Any time we consider a new capital investment we need to know if the cash
flow generated over time will pay for its upfront costs. How do we assess the upfront costs against
projected future cash flows to guarantee a profitable return? How long will it take to generate that
return? What risks do we face that may turn a certain winner into a colossal loser? How do we
calculate and price those risks? What is the source of financing for these risks? Is it stocks, bonds,
loans, or something else? CAPITAL BUDGETING for the LONG HAUL The primary reason
executives initiate capital investment projects is value creation for stockholders. The objective of these
investments is to create a higher total return consisting of dividend income and capital gains. Our
initial question in corporate finance is to assess how new capital investments, like a factory, equipment
purchase, or

Symbols represent something of a higher meaning. In Their Eyes Were Watching God, by Zora Neale
Hurston, the pear tree to Janie represents all of her dreams, hopes, and plans for the future. The pear
tree is the exemplary love for Janie in her lifetime. Janie grows throughout the book and her life is
shaped around finding true love and finding herself through love.
The pear tree is a reoccurring symbol in the book. The first instance of the pear tree in the book is
when Janie watches a bee pollinate from a blossom. The pear tree represents what Janie thinks

By deaths, Janie means failed dreams or not reaching true love. Janie feels incomplete when she can t

Joe seems very handsome and genuine at first but Janie s opinion of him quickly changes. She feels
like she is just playing the part as a wife. She does the cliché duties of a wife. She works in his store,
cleans, and cooks for him. She wasn t petal open with him anymore (Hurston 67). Janie and Joe
became no longer intimate with each other. There is no connection between them. Joe eventually dies
and Janie has to starch her face to mask her true feelings for Joe. She is actually relieved and feels

Culture Clash In House Of Sand And Fog By Amy Tan
The world has a variety of cultures and religions, and in this generation these different
cultures mix. It is not easy for some people to accept these different faiths and morals, however
they learn to day by day. In books such as House of Sand and Fog by Andre Dubus III and The Joy
Luck Club by Amy Tan, the authors convey the theme of the clash of cultures. Writing books
about different cultures and the struggle of their acceptance, is crucial for modern society because
it gives the world a realistic view on what is actually happening. Perhaps the message the authors
are trying to send with the theme of culture clash, is that because of all the different cultures,
people should learn to accept the variety.

far as saying, I didn t have to do what my mother said anymore. I wasn t her slave. This wasn t
China. I had listened to her before and look what happened. She was the stupid one (141). By
making that little jab at Chinese communism, it is quite obvious June does not know much about
Chinese culture, however, she seems to compare American and Chinese culture together. Although
Suyuan Woo never educated her daughter fully about Chinese culture, June starts to understand

Escapism In Brave New World Essay
Aldous Huxley s Brave New World demonstrates escapism from reality as one of the major themes.
The opposing forces of happiness and truth are juxtaposed within the novel. Many of the characters go
to extremes in order to avoid the truth in their own situations. This is a motif depicted in our modern
day world as a reality for many people.
Brave New World represents the perfect example of the avoidance of truth. Soma is a drug used by the
characters, and it helps them to deal with unpleasant emotions. In chapter 17, Mustapha claimed, And
if ever, by some unlucky chance, anything unpleasant should somehow happen, why, there s always
soma to give you a holiday from the facts (Huxley 158). Every time the characters feel even the

Taking a Look at Stonehenge
Picture a controversial prehistoric landmark being flooded with tourist, due to its great attraction. The
stones are great; And magic power they have; Men that are sick; Fare to that stone; and they wash that
stone; and with that water bathe away their sickness, said Layamon. This quote thoroughly explains
the recognition Stonehenge gets from visitors. From historians to interested students, the presence of
Stonehenge in southern England has captivated the sights of many, for various reasons. The history,
physical aspect, and tourist cause Stonehenge to be as memorable as people describe it to be. The
mysterious yet intriguing area has become one of the most unique spots in England. With no concrete
idea on how Stonehenge was built and for what purpose, it leaves many to theorize about Stonehenge.
Stonehenge is one of the most iconic landmarks in England and also one of the most historic.
Stonehenge is located in Salisbury Plain, England, the home of the Neolithic Britons. The landmark is
isolated on a vast plain with few trees in sight, upon a hill. Stonehenge can be scene about from three
miles away in all directions. Many researchers have determined that the site was constructed in
multiple stages, starting more than 5,000 years ago. The name Stonehenge is from the formation of the
monument itself, which is composed of stones and a bank. The monument required manual labor,
time, and an abundance of effort. The current structure of Stonehenge is the remains of the last

The Life of Saint Anthony
The life of Saint Anthony was vividly pictured in the narration of his life by no other person than St.
Athanasius. In St. Athanasius description of St. Anthony, he explored all areas where St. Anthony was
modeled as a saint. In light of this, the thesis for this essay states that classical genres to which St.
Athanasius modelled the Life of St. Anthony is autobiography/biography, mythology and adventures.
Throughout the description of St. Anthony s life, he conformed himself to these models. To this end,
this essay explores ways in which St. Anthony s life conformed to these models. One of the first ways
St. Anthony s life conformed to St. Athanasius model was his first step into asceticism (Robert 26).
Asceticism was the first major decision St. Anthony took after the death of his parents. The death of
his parents left him with the burden of caring for his sister and taking care of the vast property that
belonged to the family.
However, while on his way to church, he was meditating a bible verse but on stepping into the church,
he was baffled when he heard the Gospel being read instructing whoever wants to serve God to go and
sell of his property and distribute the profits from the sale to the poor. He felt that the verse of the
Gospel was meant for him so he did exactly as he was instructed (Robert 26). After selling off the
property, he distributed the proceeds amongst the poor. St. Anthony went to church again and after
listening to the Gospel again, he said he

Red Imported Fire Ants
How to identify ants,
In the United States, imported fire ants currently inhabit all or parts of Alabama, Arkansas, California,
Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Missouri, Mississippi, New Mexico, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Puerto
Rico, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia. They are discovered sporadically in Maryland.
The red imported fire ant has also been accidentally introduced to other countries. Imported fire ants
will likely continue to spread throughout much of the southern portion of the U.S, and other parts of
the world where climate conditions are suitable.
Accurate identification of fire ants can be especially important in the southwestern states, where native
fire ant species are common and imported fire ants are rare. Although ... Show more content on

Carpenter ants are usually larger than most other house infesting ants. They vary in color from a dull
black or reddish yellow color to a combination of black and dull red or reddish orange.
Why do fire ants bite
Fire ant is the common name for several species of ants in the genus solenopsis. They are, however,
only a minority in the genus, which includes over 200 species of Solenopsis worldwide. Solenopsis
are stinging ants and most of their common names reflect this, for example, ginger ants and tropical
ants. Many species also are called red ants because of their light brown color, though species of ants in
many other genera are similarly named for similar reasons. Examples include Myrmica rubra and
Pogonomyrmex barbatus.
None of these names applies in all countries nor to all species of Solenopsis, only to Solenopsis
species; for example the colloquial names for several species of weaver ants in the genus Oecophylla
in Southeast Asia include fire ants because of their red color and painful sting he two genera, however,
are not closely related. Also, Wasmannia auropunctata is commonly called the little fire

Self-Expression in Theodore Roethke s Elegy for Jane Essay
Self Expression in Theodore Roethke s Elegy for Jane
Theodore Roethke demonstrates an abiding honesty toward the facts of his experience. Roethke, who
was one of America s teaching poets before his death, was self absorbed, and his poetry derives much
of its imaginative strength from his quest for that communion joining self and creation (Mills 527 28).
In Elegy for Jane, one of his most successful poems, he blends his grief for his student Jane Bannick
with his childhood memories, his students experiences, and his role as teacher.
Childhood memories of his father s greenhouse, field, and stand of virgin timber in Michigan s
Saginaw Valley characterize Roethke s poetry. The poet s memories provide a fund to draw from for

However, the poet s grief may be the result of a mix of reality and imagination.
The teacher poet could be imagining how he would feel at the death of another of his students. At the
University of Washington, as at his other teaching posts, he enjoyed popularity with his students and
frequently formed close relationships with them; however, this was not true in the case of Jane
Bannick. Seager reveals that the poet had not known Jane very well. She was his student for only one
quarter. In addition to the grief that he felt at Jane s tragic death, his emotions may have been stirred
by the experiences of Lois Lamb, another of his students. Lamb, who fell from a horse the previous
summer, described the fall and her fears to her teacher in detail (193). Seager also mentions that
Roethke and Lamb conducted a series of `experiments with a flock of turkeys at the Pinel Sanitarium
during Roethke s 1949 50 hospitalization for manic depressive illness (187). These visits indicate that
Roethke was closer to Lamb than to Bannick. It would seem that his relationship with Lamb would be
more likely to create an awareness in the poet of the intense grief that would result at the tragic
severing of an exceptionally close teacher student bond.
Roethke finally expresses his loss and perhaps an imagined loss in terms of a unique human
relationship: neither father nor lover. As a

Analysis Of The Holocaust And Bourdieu s Habitus Theory
The Jewish Holocaust of 1939 1945, the Cambodian Genocide of 1975 1979, the Rwanda Genocide of

He saw the Holocaust and Holodomor as a product of the modernity s faith in progress embodied in
bureaucracy and technocracy. For him, the most important factor of the Holocaust was the modern,
technical bureaucratic patterns of action and the mentality they institutionalize, generate, sustain and
produce. Contemporary mass murder is distinguished by the virtual absence of all spontaneity but the
prominence of rational, carefully calculated design and it stands out by its purpose. Hitler s genocide
was a process of organized exclusion and murder which required cooperation of huge sections of
military and bureaucracy to accomplish. This analysis makes up for the inability for the conflict theory
in explaining long term violence and conflict, and its patterns. However, he failed to explore the role
individual factors and group interests, values and norms play in mass violence and

Sociological Aspects Of Social Psychology
Social Psychology
According to Gordon Allport , social psychology is an attempt to understand and explain how the
thought, feeling, and behavior of individuals is influenced by the actual, imagined, or implied
presence of others. (Allport, 1954)
There are two differing branches when referring to social psychology:
1. The sociological aspect of social psychology, which was mainly developed in Europe as a
subdivision of sociology.
2. The psychological aspect of social psychology, which was developed in the US
The differences between the two divisions are, that the sociological way of viewing social psychology
focusses more on group interaction, group processes, while the psychological aspects of social
psychology focusses more on the individual and how the individual is influenced and/or behaves in
social settings.
Sociological social psychology is very theory intensive and constructs itself out of
geisteswissenschaften (sciences of the spirit) and social sciences. Corresponding approaches are i.e.
critical theories, which also include psychoanalytical ideas. Some of the more notable sociological
psychologists include Sigmund Freud, Erich Fromm and Wilhelm Reich.
Coming back to the psychological branch of social psychology, we see its intentions lies in an attempt
to understand and explain how the thought, feelings and behavior of individuals are influenced by the
actual, imagined, or implied presence of others (Allport, The Person in Psychology, 1968)

The Book Summary In John Steinbeck s The Pearl
The book The Pearl takes place in a small fishing village in La Paz, Mexico. The main characters are
from an Indian tribe that live on the beach in brush houses, since Spaniards have kicked them out of
their homes. There is a poor fisherman named Kino, his wife Juana, and their son Coyotito. One day
Coyotito gets stung by a scorpion, but the family cannot support the cost of the treatment, so they go
and try to find a pearl to then sell. When looking in the water, Kino finds a magnificent, shiny, big,
and beautiful pearl. However, when going to sell it Kino does not like the prices the pearl buyers will
buy it for, so he decides he will cross the sea and the mountains to the Capital. I think what drives
Kino through the book is a fear of the amount of money he will earn, being cheated with the value of
the pearl, and Juana and Coyotito s safety from attackers/trackers. To begin, what drives Kino is fear
of not getting the correct amount of money he needs from the pearl to supply all the things he desires.
First of all, this is because Kino explains that the pearl is worth more than what the pearl buyers are
willing to pay for it. The first pearl buyer says, I can give you, say, a thousand pesos. Kino s face grew
dark and dangerous. It is worth fifty thousand, he said (50). He later says he will go to the Capital and
sell it there instead, but I can tell Kino is worried of what is to come, and if he will get the correct
amount of money for the pearl. Following, Kino

Robert Frost Poetry Analysis
This poem was written by Robert Frost in 1923, in New Hampshire. He wrote it for political reasons
because he was mourning the end of the world. It does not appear as it was origianally written. It was
not part of a series or collection. It also does not belong to any particular movement.
This poem was not written about any person or national hero. It is not a lyric, or a haiku. It is,
however, a conffesional poem, as it speaks of his opinion of the polotics of that time.
Yes, because, the title is obvious as it describes the main topic of the poem. No, there is really only
one set meaning to the poem. There is no balance, as it mainly talks about the end of the world. There
is really no obvious opposite in this poem. Yes, it mentions the garden of Eden in the poem.
The only repitition in the poem, that I could find, was when he mentioned leaves dieing.
This poem suggests the passing of day and the change of the seasons in this poem. The passage of day
is obvious, with no gaps in between
The name Eden has value because Eden was a garden of holy perfection, So Eden sank to grief means
that the world ends.
Yes, at first glance this poem appears to be about nature and the seasons, but if you take into
consideration that he was unhappy with the politics at the time, things begin to make more sense.
Yes, because this poem shows that, at this point in time, the people where unhappy with the politics,
and concerned about the current war
Yes, although, at first glance, this poem

Southern Loyalist Defeat In The American Revolutionary War
Introduction The purpose of this paper is to identify three factors that contributed to the failure in the
British Southern Campaign in the American Revolutionary war. This paper will examine British and
American Southern Loyalist defeat in the Battle of Kings Mountain, and discuss assumptions the
British made including loyalists support, logistics, and terrain advantage. It is important to study past
military actions to identify mistakes and apply lessons learned to current U.S. military operations.
Background
The Battle of King s Mountain between the American Loyalist and American Patriots took place on
October 7, 1780 between the borders of Blackburn, South Carolina and Kings Mountain, North
Carolina. Major Patrick Ferguson s American ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ferguson was approximately 50 miles away from Charlotte and Cornwallis forces. (U.S. Army War
College, 1928) However, Ferguson received further messages the Patriot militia were close to his
position. Ferguson thought they were at a disadvantage at Tate s plantation and left. (Wicker, 1998)
Ferguson decided to make his defensive stand at Kings Mountain with its steep wooded slopes
provided a favorable natural defense. The summit was moderately flat and clear, and had an
abundance of trees that provided timbers to build wooden barricades. (U.S. Army War College, 1928)
Yet, Ferguson despised cutting down trees to use as barricades. (Wicker, 1998) As an alternative, he
placed the wagons and his men s baggage equipment as barricades alongside the mountain s northeast
crest. (Wicker, 1998) Ferguson thought he had the vantage point employing a 360° degree perimeter
defense overlooking down from the crest of the mountain. Campbell received information from the
local population that Ferguson had established his camp at Kings Mountain. Campbell moved quickly,
assembled 900 of his best sharpshooters, mounted their horses, and started on their long night ride in
the rain to stop Ferguson from reaching Cornwallis s

Burn Burns In The United States
I felt intense warmth around my bed frame. Just as I was about to open my eyes I sensed a strong
surge of pain that overwhelmed my body, as I looked down at my legs, I saw a sea of orange flames
devouring my bed sheets. It was in that moment that I realized that my house was on fire, and my legs
were burned. This is an example of how most Americans experience home fires. In fact, residential
properties have the most fire related deaths (76.5%), fire injuries (78.0%) and fire dollar loss (55.0%)
in the United States (United States Fire Administration, 2013). The most popular injuries related to
fires are burn wounds. Burn wounds can be categorized into three different levels: first degree, second
degree, and third degree burns.

Workplace Reflection Essay
There are racial things happening all around us every day but many times people can block it out or
don t notice it because it seems normal. This week I decided to watch and see what racial or gender
type things happen at my place of work. I work at a restaurant in downtown Green Bay, it a bit more
expensive than most places. I m going to cover the way customers are served and how they are treated
and how things are a little more advanced in the kitchen staff. First of all, I am a host at the restaurant
so I watch closely to make sure all tables are getting service, when a table is first sat the table is
greeted by the server in a happy tone Usually if the customers reply back in a happy way and friendly
way that table will get more attention from the server throughout their time at the restaurant. When the
customer tends to treat the server more as a servant and not as a real person the servers tend to not
check up on the table as much because the table doesn t seem friendly. Another thing I noticed is that
when a table sits and they are dressed nicely and servers my pay more attention to them compared to a
table that is in sweatpants. Servers pay more attention to the tables that are dressed nicely because
they expect them to tip better, I have seen this first hand with two tables sat at about the same time and
the family dressed nicer tip decently and the table in sweats tipped 74 cents on a $35 bill. Now I know
that I don t know the financial backgrounds of these two families but this is a more expensive
restaurant so customers tend to spend more than going to a Red Robins. Another factor in how you are
served at a restaurant is younger couples and elderly couples are less likely to tip well. Younger
couples tend to be seen as not having significant funds to pay and tip well. Elderly couples are seen as
small tippers because they are used to saving and a lower tipping percentage. For a long time the
tipping percentage was 15% percent but over the last few years, it has been raised to about 18% to
20%. Next, I want to talk about how usually when you think of a restaurants kitchen staff you may
think low income men maybe even Mexican. At the restaurant, I work at we have a wide variety of
people that work

Media Cost
After the initial outlay for the drive, you ll be faced with the cost of the storage media the drive uses.
Keep in mind that what seems like a bargain may be a moneypit in disguise. For example floppy disks
are still the cheapest per unit media at approximately 50 cents each, but on a per megabyte cost basis
(around 35 cents per megabyte), they re the most costly form of storage. Also on the expensive end of

  • 7. Relationship Between Convergence And Harry Potter Convergence has become somewhat vital to the success of a screen text; the number of mediums it engages with can, to some extent, affect how much of a fan base it creates. The power of the media producer and the power of the media consumer interact in unpredictable ways stated by Henry Jenkins. (2006:2) Participatory culture has, in some cases, created the potential for more enriched franchises that surpass their original purpose, some screen texts can develop a lot further than expected due to how well received they are. The popularity of the most recognizable film franchises could be seen as the product of convergence within fan culture. In this essay, I am going to discuss the relationship between Harry Potter fans and convergence and the various ways the fans have constructed alternate views of the franchise. I will discuss how Harry Potter has become globally successful through its convergence and fan culture. Harry Potter is a relevant case study of convergence because it extends past its original platform, which was books; there are now Harry Potter video games, merchandise, themed websites and, the most recent of which, theme parks. In this case, Universal, a company in partnership with Warner Brothers who own Harry Potter, opened a Harry Potter segment to their original theme park in 2014 in Florida. This was an effort to bring back the former popularity it once had, such as when the first book was written in 1997 by J.K.Rowling. The series has become a global ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Subsequently, the use of armed aerial drones has become the United States signature attack for counter terrorism. After the attack the Bush administration began the target killing of suspects involved in terrorist attacks (Rowman Littlefield 2016 p.13). A variation of target killing is signature strikes in which suspected militants and anyone considered a possible suspect is targeted based on their behavioral characteristics. In the case of a signature strike the target is unknown. Although drones are not new, the emergence of armed drones remains the topic of many debates. The application ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Target killing and signature strikes specifically remain quite problematic. The exercising of signature strikes has lent a hand in killing many innocent civilians. People associate or in proximity of suspected militants will unsuspectingly suffer the consequences. Numerous victims to signature strikes persist with a lack of governmental acknowledgment reflecting remorse or regret to value the lives of those they took impulsively. The main problem within the context of signature strikes concerns targeted suspected militants whose identity are completely unknown. These suspects haven t been proven guilty, so in a way the government may seem a little trigger happy as they kill based on inclinations rather than certainty and refuse to consider other possibilities to assume the suspects are innocent. • 10. The United Colours Of Benetton The definition of a brand has evolved over the years, giving it a variety of meanings. Williams (2000) defines it as a combination of names, slogans, logos, product design, packaging, advertising and marketing that together give particular products or services a physical, recognisable form . Another definition describes a brand as a form of crystallised knowledge (Arvidsson 2005 p. 7). Brands can also use as a strategy to differentiate themselves from competitors, to potentially encourage the consumer to recognise and purchase their goods. Hart and Murphy (1998) points out that people have used brands and marks to distinguish products since the earliest times, dating back to 2000 BC . According to research owners of cattle, slaves, timber and crockery would burn or brand they produce using markings or symbols, using a hot rod iron. The term branding originates from the Old Norse Brand , which means to burn (Kurtuldu, 2008). The United Colours of Benetton is clothing company, especially known in the 1980s for its flamboyant advertising campaigns which communicated social issues of the time. In the earlier years, Benetton used standard forms of traditional advertising. However, in 1983 Benetton collaborated with creative director Olivier Toscani who would transform the brand s image forever. Their advertisements have proven to shock and mentally stimulate the viewer; as well as develop public consciousness. Being a particularly conventional clothing company Benetton ... Micro Suites as a Solution to Vancouver s Housing Problem Bienvenue à Vancouver, where people meet unrealistic housing and living costs. It is no secret that Vancouver s housing issue is blowing out of proportion due to the demand for more affordable housing units. The problem is not a question of production, but the type of housing that is being supplied (Gold, 2016). However, this would take a great deal of time and nationwide discussion amongst lawmakers and the government to solve. According to the City of Vancouver s zoning and development by law, no more than one person shall occupy a micro dwelling and it must have a floor area of at least 29.7 sq. m. or 319.69 sq. ft. Because of these numbers mandated by the City of Vancouver, Vancouverites are not expected to be experiencing to live in smaller conditions. However, places like Japan, Hong Kong, New York and San Francisco have micro dwelling units smaller than 320 sq. ft, which shows that there are people who are willing to live the micro life and make the community around them into their extended space. According to Sam Baron, 29, who has lived in a 248 sq. ft. space for two years, states that the space was comfortable, functional, and allowed him central access between his work and school (Bellett, 2015). However, some studies show that there are dangers in living in a confined space and how micro living is really not for everyone. • 14. Capital Financing And Cash Management Corporate Finance The chief financial officer of your company understands it is impossible to grow and flourish without new capital. Investment from outside or inside the firm generates new processes and services, and therefore new cash flows, that add value to the firm. Should we build a new factory, upgrade an existing one, or produce offshore? Would it be better to lease or buy an expensive piece of manufacturing equipment or computer system? Should we acquire a significant competitor or supplier? These are indicative of the various forms capital budgeting, capital financing and cash management can take. Any time we consider a new capital investment we need to know if the cash flow generated over time will pay for its upfront costs. How do we assess the upfront costs against projected future cash flows to guarantee a profitable return? How long will it take to generate that return? What risks do we face that may turn a certain winner into a colossal loser? How do we calculate and price those risks? What is the source of financing for these risks? One of the first ways St. Anthony s life conformed to St. Athanasius model was his first step into asceticism (Robert 26). Asceticism was the first major decision St. Anthony took after the death of his parents. The death of his parents left him with the burden of caring for his sister and taking care of the vast property that belonged to the family. Self-Expression in Theodore Roethke s Elegy for Jane Essay Self Expression in Theodore Roethke s Elegy for Jane Theodore Roethke demonstrates an abiding honesty toward the facts of his experience. Roethke, who was one of America s teaching poets before his death, was self absorbed, and his poetry derives much of its imaginative strength from his quest for that communion joining self and creation (Mills 527 28). In Elegy for Jane, one of his most successful poems, he blends his grief for his student Jane Bannick with his childhood memories, his students experiences, and his role as teacher. The teacher poet could be imagining how he would feel at the death of another of his students. At the University of Washington, as at his other teaching posts, he enjoyed popularity with his students and frequently formed close relationships with them; however, this was not true in the case of Jane Bannick. Seager reveals that the poet had not known Jane very well. She was his student for only one quarter. In addition to the grief that he felt at Jane s tragic death, his emotions may have been stirred by the experiences of Lois Lamb, another of his students. Lamb, who fell from a horse the previous summer, described the fall and her fears to her teacher in detail (193). Seager also mentions that Roethke and Lamb conducted a series of `experiments with a flock of turkeys at the Pinel Sanitarium during Roethke s 1949 50 hospitalization for manic depressive illness (187). These visits indicate that Roethke was closer to Lamb than to Bannick. It would seem that his relationship with Lamb would be more likely to create an awareness in the poet of the intense grief that would result at the tragic severing of an exceptionally close teacher student bond. (Allport, 1954) There are two differing branches when referring to social psychology: 1. The sociological aspect of social psychology, which was mainly developed in Europe as a subdivision of sociology. 2. The psychological aspect of social psychology, which was developed in the US The differences between the two divisions are, that the sociological way of viewing social psychology focusses more on group interaction, group processes, while the psychological aspects of social psychology focusses more on the individual and how the individual is influenced and/or behaves in social settings. Sociological social psychology is very theory intensive and constructs itself out of geisteswissenschaften (sciences of the spirit) and social sciences. One day Coyotito gets stung by a scorpion, but the family cannot support the cost of the treatment, so they go and try to find a pearl to then sell. When looking in the water, Kino finds a magnificent, shiny, big, and beautiful pearl. However, when going to sell it Kino does not like the prices the pearl buyers will buy it for, so he decides he will cross the sea and the mountains to the Capital. I think what drives Kino through the book is a fear of the amount of money he will earn, being cheated with the value of the pearl, and Juana and Coyotito s safety from attackers/trackers. To begin, what drives Kino is fear of not getting the correct amount of money he needs from the pearl to supply all the things he desires. First of all, this is because Kino explains that the pearl is worth more than what the pearl buyers are willing to pay for it. The first pearl buyer says, I can give you, say, a thousand pesos. Kino s face grew dark and dangerous. It is worth fifty thousand, he said (50). This week I decided to watch and see what racial or gender type things happen at my place of work. I work at a restaurant in downtown Green Bay, it a bit more expensive than most places. I m going to cover the way customers are served and how they are treated and how things are a little more advanced in the kitchen staff. First of all, I am a host at the restaurant so I watch closely to make sure all tables are getting service, when a table is first sat the table is greeted by the server in a happy tone Usually if the customers reply back in a happy way and friendly way that table will get more attention from the server throughout their time at the restaurant. When the customer tends to treat the server more as a servant and not as a real person the servers tend to not check up on the table as much because the table doesn t seem friendly. Another thing I noticed is that when a table sits and they are dressed nicely and servers my pay more attention to them compared to a table that is in sweatpants. Servers pay more attention to the tables that are dressed nicely because they expect them to tip better, I have seen this first hand with two tables sat at about the same time and the family dressed nicer tip decently and the table in sweats tipped 74 cents on a $35 bill. Now I know that I don t know the financial backgrounds of these two families but this is a more expensive restaurant so customers tend to spend more than going to a Red Robins. Another factor in how you are served at a restaurant is younger couples and elderly couples are less likely to tip well. Younger couples tend to be seen as not having significant funds to pay and tip well. Elderly couples are seen as small tippers because they are used to saving and a lower tipping percentage. For a long time the tipping percentage was 15% percent but over the last few years, it has been raised to about 18% to 20%. Next, I want to talk about how usually when you think of a restaurants kitchen staff you may think low income men maybe even Mexican.
