The Rise Of Awareness Of Police Brutality Towards Black Males
Although written in the late 1980s with the rise of awareness of police brutality towards black males
in America, it is clearly evident that black people are treated differently especially in terms of racial
profiling. According to analysis by New York Civil Liberties Union, in 2013 83% of the people
stopped in New York for a frisk and search were black or Hispanic with only 12% being white and of
all the people stopped 81% were completely innocent. Racial profiling causing an uneasiness to those
who are victims of it, for Brent Staples it resulted in him changing his behaviour to suit those around
him. Selectively picking his attire, the time he walked and places he walked at the specific times. Even
steely New Yorkers hunching toward nighttime destinations seem to relax, and occasionally they even
join in the tune. Virtually everybody seems to sense that a mugger wouldn t be warbling bright, sunny
selections from Vivaldi s Four Seasons. The writer, Brent Staples, would have to whistle to reassure
others of their safety and comfort just because he was a minority, the worst was assumed of him from
first impressions. In Brent s situation the uneasiness from racial profiling lead to him altering his
lifestyle and this is a reality for many young people of colour who have to selectively choose what
they wear as to not appear thuggish while they walk the streets. Racial profiling causes individuals
from minorities to change aspects of their life and can also lead to a

The Salem Witch Trials For The Puritan Community
Texas Tech University A Town Submerged in Hysteria Cornelius Asmerom History To 1877 Professor
Corye Beene October 23, 2014 The Salem Witch Trials The Salem Witch Trials were a devastating
time period in 1692 for the Puritan community which resulted in 20 innocent people executed.
Pilgrims landed in Plymouth, Massachusetts 9 years before the Puritans landed in Massachusetts Bay.
Puritans wanted to purify the Church of England and ultimately strive to build a utopian society. John
Winthrope who was the first governor of the Massachusetts bay colony described this society as a city
upon a hill . This city upon a hill was not going to achieve itself on its own once the Puritans got to
Massachusetts Bay. The type of government enforced within their community was a theocracy,
meaning that God is the true leader of society, and he expressed his action and will through men and
women. This required the community to attend church daily, and if you did not show up people would
come and look for you. This outdated form of government enforced and allowed the sexist practices of
women because of the strong belief that women were susceptible to the Devils charm. Women had no
legal or property rights, marrying as a teenager and having many kids was the their life. This
community did not tolerate nonconformity, everyone did the same thing and acted the same way. Anne
Hutchinson was a victim of the strict beliefs of the Puritans. Anne Hutchinson was arrested for heresy

Corresponding author: Md. Sourove Akther Momin (sur.sor269@gmail.com) Abstract: SPC
(statistical process control) is an important tool to solve the manufacturing problem and the most
modernized effective scheme to obtain process durability and fostering the process pertinence
decreasing the variability. In manufacturing system, products do not run up against the proper
province of quality permanently with the customer desire. This impermanency appears due to various
productions of variations like machines, operators, materials, etc. The main purpose of control chart is
to monitor the changes, and subsequently governing the scheme. The study deals with controlling and
upliftment of the quality of pipe through checking and observing the pipe s height, diameter and
weight from pipe industry. From the investigation, X bar chart, S and R control chart are developed
for the variables. Furthermore, EWMA (exponentially weighted moving average) is used to focus for
identifying the small process shifts All of the investigation represent, the process is in control or not.
For the process out of control status, the assignable causes behind it be marked out and foreclosed by
taking proper steps.

Vertical Merger Essay
1. Horizontal Mergers: Horizontal mergers happen when a company merges or takes over another
company that offers the same or similar product lines and services to the final consumers, which
means that it is in the same industry and at the same stage of production. Companies, in this case, are
usually direct competitors. For example, if a company producing cell phones merges with another
company in the industry that produces cell phones, this would be termed as horizontal merger. The
benefit of this kind of merger is that it eliminates competition, which helps the company to increase its
market share, revenues and profits. Moreover, it also offers economies of scale due to increase in size
as average cost decline due to higher production volume. These kinds of merger also encourage cost
efficiency, since redundant and wasteful activities are removed from the operations i.e. various
administrative departments or departments such as advertising, purchasing and marketing.
2. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Vertical Mergers: A vertical merger is done with an aim to combine two companies that are in the
same value chain of producing the same good and service, but the only difference is the stage of
production at which they are operating. For example, if a clothing store takes over a textile factory,
this would be termed as vertical merger, since the industry is same, i.e. clothing, but the stage of
production is different: one firm is works in territory sector, while the other works in secondary sector.
These kinds of merger are usually undertaken to secure supply of essential goods, and avoid
disruption in supply, since in the case of our example, the clothing store would be rest assured that
clothes will be provided by the textile factory. It is also done to restrict supply to competitors, hence a
greater market share, revenues and profits. Vertical mergers also offer cost saving and a higher margin
of profit, since manufacturer s share is

My Dreams Of My Life
I grew up in a small southern town, so my parents have this image of what they expect my life to be
like. They expect their baby girl to go to college for teaching or agriculture. They also expect that I
will be stable enough to be on my own and completely support myself by the age of twenty one. They
even expect for me to marry a country boy who can help out around home if need be. So far I have not
met their expectations at all, and they still manage to be proud of just about every decision I make.
Although my parents wanted me to go to school for teaching or agriculture, I started nursing school
my senior year of high school. They didn t think that I would stick with nursing so it was no big deal
when I was sixteen or seventeen, and decided that was the path I wanted to take with my life. A year
after high school graduation and I was 19 graduating with my LPN. My parents were way more proud
of me than I could have ever dreamed of. They brag to their friends to this day about all the stress I got
myself through and all of the hard work and dedication I had to put in too accomplish this dream of
mine. Not only did I accomplish one dream of mine but I am going back to school full time to get my
RN while working full time in doctor s office, this makes their face light up every time they brag to
their friends or family about it. I may not be the a farmer like my parents wanted, but I am a teacher in
a certain way. I teach people how to take care of their wounds. I teach

Cognitive Dissonance Examples
Cognitive Dissonance
Overview the topic and define relevant terms in your own words.
When someone makes a decision or takes an action that goes against their personal beliefs, they
experience a sense of discomfort; this discomfort felt is due to cognitive dissonance. People may
values and beliefs that they live by. A person who believes that smoking cigarettes are bad is unlikely
to smoke a cigarette; if they do smoke a cigarette than they will experience some discomfort. The
action of smoking is conflicting with their idea that smoking is bad; this creates cognitive dissonance.
The mind wants to keep these values in accordance with the principle of cognitive consistency. When
two values conflict with one another something must be changed ... Show more content on

The idea is applicable in everyday life; we can use cognitive dissonance to help people make better
decisions throughout the day. When we finish using the bathroom we often see a sign asking us to
wash our hands to prevent disease and infection. When someone thinks to not wash their hands but
sees the sign, they will experience cognitive dissonance. To get rid of this discomfort they will
probably choose to wash their hands. Small interactions like these help better the world; by placing
small changes like these in someone s environment we can remind people of their morals and values.
Explain how the topic applies to your own life or to someone that you know.
I have adhd, often times it is difficult for me to keep focused on the task at hand. As a way of helping
myself get work done, and overall be more productive I created a Not to do list. This list is a set of
guidelines of things I shouldn t do while I work in my room: no watching Netflix before 8pm, do not
eat an excess or sugary foods, don t make a mess of the room. Now whenever I do one of these in my
room I experience cognitive dissonance. I made the decision to better my study habits, and I stop
doing the item on my not to do list. This has been immensely beneficial; I have gotten so much more

The Suspense And Surprise In And Then There Were None
The suspense and surprise in And Then There Were None
Suspense and surprise in And Then There Were None Every well written murder mystery does not
have fixed features because the writers of detective story always want to give their readers a unique
feeling, but suspense and surprise are essential and indispensable. (Alewyn 184) In Agatha Christie s
And Then There Were None, she fully combines suspense and surprise through the omniscient point of
view and poignant plot. Therefore, And Then There Were None is a well written murder mystery. The
omniscient point of view means a method of storytelling in which the narrator knows the thoughts and
feelings of all of the characters in the story. (Abrams 233) Plot is the series of events that form the
story of a novel, play, and film (Abrams 294). I will show the suspense and surprise through the
analysis of narrative, rising action, climax, and falling action as well as use specific textual evidence
from this fiction novel to prove it. In And Then There Were None, The writer uses the omniscient
point of view to describe characters. In other words, she uses God s perspective to ... Show more

atmosphere in the whole plot. At the end of this story, readers still stay in confusion until a fishing

Demographic Characteristics Of Asheville
When thinking of Asheville, North Carolina the first thing that comes to anyone s mind is the Biltmore
Estate and the rolling mountains of the Blue Ridge Parkway. The Biltmore is the largest residential
home in America and was constructed in the early 1900s when Asheville was a town unknown to the
popular eye. At the time, Asheville was a small town with a population of only 2,000 residents.
Nevertheless, Asheville was on its way to becoming a luxurious resort town. Many people were drawn
to Asheville for its nature beauty, clear air, and reviving hot springs. These geographic characteristics

Liability For Negligence
Introduction
Litigation is becoming more prevalent in all areas of society, including education. Schools are now the
focus of an array of legislation which influences and impacts on the daily professional lives of
teachers. Subsequently, teaching is becoming an increasingly complex profession. The most prominent
legal concern expressed by teachers is their vulnerability to negligence claims, as they work with
those, who in the process of enhancing their physical, intellectual and critical abilities, are more
susceptible to injury.
Negligence is defined as the omission to do something which a reasonable man...would do, or doing
something which a prudent and reasonable man would not do. The general principle is that one should
not harm those to whom they owe a duty of care, by act or omission. Action for negligence is
grounded on the breach of a duty to exercise reasonable care. To be actionable, negligence must
consist of four elements; a duty, breach of the duty, causation and injury. The test frequently applied
by the courts is that of a reasonable person placed in the defendant s circumstances.
Liability for negligence cannot arise until it has been established that the man who has been negligent
owed some duty to the person who seeks to make him liable for his negligence. Teachers have a legal
duty of care, due to the special characteristics of the teacher pupil relationship to take reasonable care
to ensure that students meet with no foreseeable injury

made our society extremely advanced because of new social thoughts, inventions made by people, and
different advances in human rights. The social classes and thoughts immensely changed during the

Agriculture is our wisest pursuit, because it will in the end contribute most to real wealth, good morals

Planting and harvest times determined when children would attend school because older siblings

Essay On Populism
There are, of course, other definitions of populism that are worth at least exploring. One particularly
popular book has been What is Populism by Princeton professor Jan Werner Müller. His definition
asserts that Populism is a moralistic imagination of politics that is anti pluralist and claims exclusive
representation of the people. (Müller 2016, Pg. 20) Ironically, he uses Wallace s Segregation forever
comment to support this claim. We actually argue that this moment was the attaching of populism to
nativist ideology in order to build a winning coalition (as is attested by Wallace himself), not an actual
expression of populism itself (Rowan 1991). We reject his definition on several grounds. The first is
the premise that populists must necessarily be anti pluralist. There is no ground in which this must be
the case. In fact, populist voting populations must be pluralistic in and of themselves, because as he
makes clear, there is no such thing as a homogenous people in existence. The only sense in which they
are not plural is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
3). Under this conceptualization the oft used term silent majority makes little sense in the reality of
populism, if populist believe that they speak with the authority of everyone. This seems to be a
convenient theoretical position, not an actual description of populism in the real world. This ironically,
leads to him excluding the original American Populist party of the 1890 s from his own definition of
Populism. Additionally, right wing populism surely differentiates between the elites themselves and
those they view as below them. (See diadic [left wing] vs. triadic [right wing] populism.) Populism is
about a claim to the volonte generale (general will), not the absolute will of the people. (Mudde and

of Sandra Bland as she died under their custody. This lens is the framework that empowered the
murders of Emmitt Till to torture and kill a 14 year old boy as a way to uphold the honor of white
masculinity and the purity of white femininity. This lens empowered the murders of Jordan Davis and
Trayvon Martin to take justice into their hands and kill these young men out of a false sense of fear
and unfounded need for protection. Indeed, this liturgy (through embracing radical capitalism and
commodifying Blackness) has created a world of hostility toward Blackness. This liturgy is the work
of white supremacy through means of systemic and institutional

U.s. Vietnam War On American Culture, Politics, And...
Regarded as one of the most controversial and polarizing military conflicts in U.S. history, the
Vietnam War has left a deep and lasting impact on American culture, politics, and foreign policy. From
1964 to the present day, the Vietnam War redefined the scope of U.S. influence both at home and
abroad, and caused a fundamental shift in American society that dramatically changed the way in
which Americans viewed their government and the role of the United States as a world power. For an
entire generation of Americans, who watched as the horrors of the war in Vietnam unfold before the
spotlight of the national media, the Vietnam War directly challenged the superiority of the American
way and the infallibility of U.S military dominance. In truth, the U.S government, U.S. military, and
the American people as a whole struggled to accept the lessons of America s greatest military failure
and the sobering reality of the war s consequences. To this day, the legacy of this so called American
War continues to resonate throughout the fabric of American society as a cautionary tale of U.S
foreign intervention and blind acceptance of open ended conflict.
For the United States government, the failure of U.S intervention in Vietnam provided lessons about
where and under what circumstances the United States should intervene in foreign conflicts.
Throughout the mid twentieth century, U.S. foreign policy was characterized by the idea of
containment . Coined by George Kennan in 1946,

Culture is seen as a system of shared beliefs and meanings. On the other hand society is composed of
members who typically share a common culture or, at least, a recognised set of values, symbolism and
other interactions such as social structure that defines the society s members.
Modern day hunter gatherers have adapted to geographical regions which have shaped their way of
everyday life, social structure and organisation. The San of south Africa, as a result of their permanent
settlement and geographic region, requires the males (because of their physical attributes) to travel and
hunt for game, a rare source of nutrition which is normally eaten on special occasions. Women hold a
more important role within a band as they are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the case of the San, territory is shared within the band and if one leaves he/she still has the right to a
share of the land. This shared concept translates into equality between male and female hunter
gatherers.
Although different tribes of hunter gatherers are widely dispersed throughout the world they share a
common belief. Since they depend on the earth, animals and weather to sustain their lives they have
become one and mystified with nature.
The tropical rain forests that horticulturalists inhabit are tough environments for cultivation due to the
uproar of trees and little sunshine penetrating them. Horticulturalists have adapted to this ecological
restraint buy deforesting, cultivating the land, burning it, leaving it to fallow then move onto a new
piece of land this is known as swidden cultivation. Unlike their hunter gather cousins, horticulturalist
families must own more land than needed to be able to cultivate one garden and harvest another.
Owning more land means being able to own more surplus of wild pigs, as with the Maring case, which
reflects a man s capital. Having more than one wife and children contributes to the labour of the
gardens and is therefore beneficial to the man. (reflecting gender inequality).
The Maring, even though they are divided into subgroups, share ideas and common beliefs during and
after warfare. When one side is victorious, the defeated group s territory is destroyed along with it s

Applying The World Is Flat to Canada
Title: The World is Flat Canada and the Flat World There are many challenges and opportunities that
the Flat World has provided and allowed for in the world we live today. Canada needs to be prepared
for this Flat World. The following hopefully explores just that. 1. How has/does a flat world impact
world trade and Canada. The flat world, with the advent of advancements and exposure to technology,
infrastructure, culture, cost, education, political change and ideology has changed both World Trade
and Canada has a whole. The flat world has changed a traditional top down (vertical) type command
and control to a horizontal one (collaborate and connect), in our global economy. This in turn impacts
the World and Canada. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The approach described in the book is excellent one, to establish and emphasize in education. It
focuses on four strategies. 1) The ability to learn how to learn be inspired and love doing it. 2) Be
passionate and curious. Having strong combination of curiosity quotient and passionate quotient
would foster motivation, innovation and creativity, and thus self education in turn developing the
individual s intelligence quotient. 3) Development of strong interpersonal/interactive skills. This shall
allow for strong interactions with other people within the collaborative world. 4) Development of the
right hemisphere of the brain, which addresses relationship skills, and creativity, and seeing the big
picture . An area that I would also emphasize in education that is not really focused on is financial
education. Being able to understand and interpret how the economic and financial aspects of the
global marketplace work would be a very strong asset to students. This includes understanding
financial reporting, investment strategies, and application of financial well being (i.e. minimization of
debt, asset acquisition and allocation, etc.). In terms of de emphasizing teaching activities I would
address some minimization of low skill type elective courses which may potentially detrimental for
student growth and development. 5. What are the specific challenges for Managers to be better
equipped to work in a flat world?

Eating Disorders In Adolescent Girls
Introduction of Eating Disorders
Eating disorders, a range of psychological disorders characterized by abnormal or disturbed eating
habits is a growing problem. The three most common eating disorders are Anorexia Nervosa, Binge
Eating Disorder, and Bulimia Nervosa. Eating disorders currently affect 25 million Americans.
(allianceforeatingdisordes.com) Children under 12 who were hospitalized for an eating disorder
increased by 119% between 1999 and 2006 (Fox News). While males are affected by eating disorders,
75% of people affected are female. One group of the population that is largely affected are teenage
girls. I chose to research the topic of eating disorders in adolescent girls because I became concerned
when I met someone struggling ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This type of disorder affects mostly adolescent girls who are completely aware of their change of
eating habits, have an extreme fear of ever being fat, and are overly unhappy with the way there body
is shaped. Bulimia first starts with frequent eating episodes with mass amounts of food, with the lack
of control to stop, (binging). After binging, some will even result in taking types of medications in
order to prevent any type of weight gain. Furthermore, when attempting to hold off the weight using
laxatives or self induced vomiting it s known as the purging type. People who excessively exercise or
try to restrict any type of weight gain are known as the non purging type. Purging is usually kept a
secret due to the shame and insecurities that follow. Also, most people that are diagnosed with Bulimia
also have the same symptoms as someone who has Anorexia Nervosa. However, unlike Anorexia,
people with this disorder are more than likely able to maintain a normal weight, sometimes even
underweight, but see themselves as overweight or even heavier than what they actually are. Statistics
show that 64% of individuals with bulimia have a near normal body weight (Alliance for eating
disorders). Most people do not know that purging does not eliminate all of the calories ingested.

5. Since the operating income boost from 562 in 2009 to 1728.5 in 2011 and the sales just increases
from 9774.6 to 11700.4, the net profit margin of Starbucks increases from 4% in 2009 to 10.65% in
2011. The differences mean that by considering the costs and expenses, Starbucks become more
profitable in 2011. It generates 10.65 cents in net income for every dollar in sales in 2011. 6. The
current ratio of Starbucks in 2011 increases to 1.83 times from 1.29 times in 2009. To a creditor,
higher current ratio means he can get his money more quickly. To the Starbucks, higher current ratio
means an inefficient use of cash and other short term asset. Thus, Starbucks had more net working
capital and was less efficient in using short term assets in 2011 than it was in 2009 and 2010. 7. The
debt assets ratio of Starbucks decreases 4.61% from 2009 to 2011. The main reason for this change is
not the decrease in debt but the increase in total assets. The number of available for sale securities,
inventories and cash and cash equivalents increase 3900.77%, 145.25% and 191.41%, respectively. To
creditors, lower debt assets ratio means they can get their money back with less risk. To shareholders,
lower debt assets ratio indicates that on one hand, Starbucks has lower risk to repay the money to its
creditors and lower interest expense;

Technology And Information Warfare During World War II
Warfare Will Be Determined By Electronic Means In A Few Decades, Either On The Ground Or In
Cyber Space. Since the end of World War II, the instruments of war have been completely upgraded
during the war; from motorization to mechanization. The powerful attack capability of mechanized
troops was fully demonstrated during World War II. Thus, the degree of mechanization in the army
became an important indicator to measure a country s defense capabilities. This standard has become a
popular standard in the world, in the subsequent several decades. Until 1991, the result of the first
Gulf War once again shocked the world. People first time realized the importance of battlefield
information. The United States and its allies with a strong communication capabilities and
reconnaissance capabilities won an overwhelming victory in the war. Information technology and
information warfare thus become the new trend of military development. Therefore, information
battlefield will undoubtedly become the mainstream in the next few decades; information supremacy
will be the most important determining factor in the future. This essay will briefly review the previous
researches; it attempts to provide a common definition of information warfare. Then, it will describe
the characteristics of information warfare; the essay will look at the actual examples in the world.
Finally, the essay will discuss and analysis the influence of information warfare and the development
potential; it will discuss

The Evolution Of The Samurai Sword
The Evolution Of The Samurai Sword The Samurai are some of the most feared warriors in the history
of warfare. Masters of hand to hand combat, surprise and showing no fear of the enemy. The soul of
the Samurai was his sword, it held the power and strength to cut men in half with a single blow. The
Samurai/ Katana did not appear in the history books all at once. The sword took hundreds of years to
perfect, and the smith months to make the perfect sword. The Katana became an art form and took a
master smith years to learn the ways of the metals and steps to go into making the sword. The Samurai
sword remains to this day the most developed and innovative weapon the world has ever seen. It is an

The production of swords came back to be used as items of luxury and sometimes as a weapon of
defense in the Japanese Army. The blades made at that time were dependent upon the smith or the
owner of the blade. They were made to his specific time period request or if the smith was
exceptionally good at making a specific kind of style. After the WWII many blades ended up as war
trophies for the Americans who took them from the battlefield. Many were destroyed and the art of
making them was becoming very rare. In the 1950 s Japan was allowed to produce swords the
traditional way again as a symbol of their ancient past, but they could not be used as a weapon ever

Peanut Butter And Hummus Comparison
There are enough small kitchen appliances on the market that, assuming you had the cash, you could
use a different one each night for dinner for an entire year. With this in mind, I ve narrowed down the
most critical ones to the three that I most frequently use. Two of them are very similar, but do very
different things; and the other is a low tech tool that can be used for nearly every meal.
Food processor I have two food processors that I always use. A 3 cup KitchenAid Chef s Chopper and
the 14 cup Cuisinart Custom 14 food processor. Both of them get equal use, but for very different
things. I love to make peanut butter and hummus with the large one, and sauces, dressings, and bread
crumbs with the small one. Both machines are

Analysis Of The Poem The Darkness Within Men By Steve...
12 Years a Slave positions utter beauty between and within scenes of violence and abjection to inspire
poignant reflection; frequent tranquil landscapes emphasize gruesome acts and remind us of man s
capability for despicable amorality. Though we often like to sequester slavery to a time and a place no
longer existent, it was not 19th century Louisiana that committed these heinous acts but rather the
privileged white men who occupied the territory. Louisiana landscapes are and always will be
beautiful; it is man that muddies our retrospective visions. Yet, Steve McQueen allows us to breathe
for the beauty itself often provides relief from horrific previous scenes; he simply does not create
empty breaks. We both reflect on the darkness within men and wonder exactly how this beauty affects
and/or represents the various characters. The jarring juxtaposition of beauty and abjection inspires
psychological introspection for we are never awarded with beauty from subjective points of view (it is
presented from anonymous angles). The cotton picking scenes and the scene in which Solomon rows
down the river illustrate the jarring effects beauty and abjection create when presented simultaneously.
Both enforce a separation between man and nature and emphasize the heinous through means of polar
comparison, yet also tie visual beauty to the retention of hope. Beginning with the cotton picking
sequences, Steven McQueen frequently uses a wide far shot and captures the blinding white

The Rise Of Awareness Of Police Brutality Towards Black Males Although written in the late 1980s with the rise of awareness of police brutality towards black males in America, it is clearly evident that black people are treated differently especially in terms of racial profiling. According to analysis by New York Civil Liberties Union, in 2013 83% of the people stopped in New York for a frisk and search were black or Hispanic with only 12% being white and of all the people stopped 81% were completely innocent. Racial profiling causing an uneasiness to those who are victims of it, for Brent Staples it resulted in him changing his behaviour to suit those around him. Selectively picking his attire, the time he walked and places he walked at the specific times. Even steely New Yorkers hunching toward nighttime destinations seem to relax, and occasionally they even join in the tune. Virtually everybody seems to sense that a mugger wouldn t be warbling bright, sunny selections from Vivaldi s Four Seasons. The writer, Brent Staples, would have to whistle to reassure others of their safety and comfort just because he was a minority, the worst was assumed of him from first impressions. In Brent s situation the uneasiness from racial profiling lead to him altering his lifestyle and this is a reality for many young people of colour who have to selectively choose what they wear as to not appear thuggish while they walk the streets. The Salem Witch Trials For The Puritan Community Texas Tech University A Town Submerged in Hysteria Cornelius Asmerom History To 1877 Professor Corye Beene October 23, 2014 The Salem Witch Trials The Salem Witch Trials were a devastating time period in 1692 for the Puritan community which resulted in 20 innocent people executed. Pilgrims landed in Plymouth, Massachusetts 9 years before the Puritans landed in Massachusetts Bay. Puritans wanted to purify the Church of England and ultimately strive to build a utopian society. John Winthrope who was the first governor of the Massachusetts bay colony described this society as a city upon a hill . This city upon a hill was not going to achieve itself on its own once the Puritans got to Massachusetts Bay. The type of government enforced within their community was a theocracy, meaning that God is the true leader of society, and he expressed his action and will through men and women. This required the community to attend church daily, and if you did not show up people would come and look for you. This outdated form of government enforced and allowed the sexist practices of women because of the strong belief that women were susceptible to the Devils charm. Women had no legal or property rights, marrying as a teenager and having many kids was the their life. This community did not tolerate nonconformity, everyone did the same thing and acted the same way. Anne Hutchinson was a victim of the strict beliefs of the Puritans. • 7. Vertical Merger Essay 1. Horizontal Mergers: Horizontal mergers happen when a company merges or takes over another company that offers the same or similar product lines and services to the final consumers, which means that it is in the same industry and at the same stage of production. Companies, in this case, are usually direct competitors. For example, if a company producing cell phones merges with another company in the industry that produces cell phones, this would be termed as horizontal merger. The benefit of this kind of merger is that it eliminates competition, which helps the company to increase its market share, revenues and profits. Moreover, it also offers economies of scale due to increase in size as average cost decline due to higher production volume. These kinds of merger also encourage cost efficiency, since redundant and wasteful activities are removed from the operations i.e. various administrative departments or departments such as advertising, purchasing and marketing. 2. ... These kinds of merger are usually undertaken to secure supply of essential goods, and avoid disruption in supply, since in the case of our example, the clothing store would be rest assured that clothes will be provided by the textile factory. It is also done to restrict supply to competitors, hence a greater market share, revenues and profits. (Alewyn 184) In Agatha Christie s And Then There Were None, she fully combines suspense and surprise through the omniscient point of view and poignant plot. Therefore, And Then There Were None is a well written murder mystery. • 18. Liability For Negligence Introduction Litigation is becoming more prevalent in all areas of society, including education. Schools are now the focus of an array of legislation which influences and impacts on the daily professional lives of teachers. Subsequently, teaching is becoming an increasingly complex profession. The most prominent legal concern expressed by teachers is their vulnerability to negligence claims, as they work with those, who in the process of enhancing their physical, intellectual and critical abilities, are more susceptible to injury. Negligence is defined as the omission to do something which a reasonable man...would do, or doing something which a prudent and reasonable man would not do. The general principle is that one should not harm those to whom they owe a duty of care, by act or omission. Action for negligence is grounded on the breach of a duty to exercise reasonable care. To be actionable, negligence must consist of four elements; a duty, breach of the duty, causation and injury. The test frequently applied by the courts is that of a reasonable person placed in the defendant s circumstances. Liability for negligence cannot arise until it has been established that the man who has been negligent owed some duty to the person who seeks to make him liable for his negligence. Teachers have a legal duty of care, due to the special characteristics of the teacher pupil relationship to take reasonable care to ensure that students meet with no foreseeable injury ... • 22. Essay On Populism There are, of course, other definitions of populism that are worth at least exploring. One particularly popular book has been What is Populism by Princeton professor Jan Werner Müller. His definition asserts that Populism is a moralistic imagination of politics that is anti pluralist and claims exclusive representation of the people. (Müller 2016, Pg. 20) Ironically, he uses Wallace s Segregation forever comment to support this claim. We actually argue that this moment was the attaching of populism to nativist ideology in order to build a winning coalition (as is attested by Wallace himself), not an actual expression of populism itself (Rowan 1991). We reject his definition on several grounds. The first is the premise that populists must necessarily be anti pluralist. There is no ground in which this must be the case. In fact, populist voting populations must be pluralistic in and of themselves, because as he makes clear, there is no such thing as a homogenous people in existence. Additionally, right wing populism surely differentiates between the elites themselves and those they view as below them. (See diadic [left wing] vs. triadic [right wing] populism.) This lens empowered the murders of Jordan Davis and Trayvon Martin to take justice into their hands and kill these young men out of a false sense of fear and unfounded need for protection. Indeed, this liturgy (through embracing radical capitalism and commodifying Blackness) has created a world of hostility toward Blackness. • 24. U.s. Vietnam War On American Culture, Politics, And... Regarded as one of the most controversial and polarizing military conflicts in U.S. history, the Vietnam War has left a deep and lasting impact on American culture, politics, and foreign policy. From 1964 to the present day, the Vietnam War redefined the scope of U.S. influence both at home and abroad, and caused a fundamental shift in American society that dramatically changed the way in which Americans viewed their government and the role of the United States as a world power. For an entire generation of Americans, who watched as the horrors of the war in Vietnam unfold before the spotlight of the national media, the Vietnam War directly challenged the superiority of the American way and the infallibility of U.S military dominance. In truth, the U.S government, U.S. military, and the American people as a whole struggled to accept the lessons of America s greatest military failure and the sobering reality of the war s consequences. To this day, the legacy of this so called American War continues to resonate throughout the fabric of American society as a cautionary tale of U.S foreign intervention and blind acceptance of open ended conflict. For the United States government, the failure of U.S intervention in Vietnam provided lessons about where and under what circumstances the United States should intervene in foreign conflicts. Throughout the mid twentieth century, U.S. foreign policy was characterized by the idea of containment . Coined by George Kennan in 1946, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

On the other hand society is composed of members who typically share a common culture or, at least, a recognised set of values, symbolism and other interactions such as social structure that defines the society s members. Modern day hunter gatherers have adapted to geographical regions which have shaped their way of everyday life, social structure and organisation. The San of south Africa, as a result of their permanent settlement and geographic region, requires the males (because of their physical attributes) to travel and hunt for game, a rare source of nutrition which is normally eaten on special occasions. In the case of the San, territory is shared within the band and if one leaves he/she still has the right to a share of the land. This shared concept translates into equality between male and female hunter gatherers. Although different tribes of hunter gatherers are widely dispersed throughout the world they share a common belief. Since they depend on the earth, animals and weather to sustain their lives they have become one and mystified with nature. The tropical rain forests that horticulturalists inhabit are tough environments for cultivation due to the uproar of trees and little sunshine penetrating them. Horticulturalists have adapted to this ecological restraint buy deforesting, cultivating the land, burning it, leaving it to fallow then move onto a new piece of land this is known as swidden cultivation. Unlike their hunter gather cousins, horticulturalist families must own more land than needed to be able to cultivate one garden and harvest another. Owning more land means being able to own more surplus of wild pigs, as with the Maring case, which reflects a man s capital. Having more than one wife and children contributes to the labour of the gardens and is therefore beneficial to the man. (reflecting gender inequality). The Maring, even though they are divided into subgroups, share ideas and common beliefs during and after warfare. Applying The World Is Flat to Canada Title: The World is Flat Canada and the Flat World There are many challenges and opportunities that the Flat World has provided and allowed for in the world we live today. Canada needs to be prepared for this Flat World. The following hopefully explores just that. 1. How has/does a flat world impact world trade and Canada. The flat world, with the advent of advancements and exposure to technology, infrastructure, culture, cost, education, political change and ideology has changed both World Trade and Canada has a whole. The flat world has changed a traditional top down (vertical) type command and control to a horizontal one (collaborate and connect), in our global economy. This in turn impacts the World and Canada. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The approach described in the book is excellent one, to establish and emphasize in education. It focuses on four strategies. 1) The ability to learn how to learn be inspired and love doing it. 2) Be passionate and curious. Having strong combination of curiosity quotient and passionate quotient would foster motivation, innovation and creativity, and thus self education in turn developing the individual s intelligence quotient. 3) Development of strong interpersonal/interactive skills. This shall allow for strong interactions with other people within the collaborative world. 4) Development of the right hemisphere of the brain, which addresses relationship skills, and creativity, and seeing the big picture . An area that I would also emphasize in education that is not really focused on is financial education. Being able to understand and interpret how the economic and financial aspects of the global marketplace work would be a very strong asset to students. This includes understanding financial reporting, investment strategies, and application of financial well being (i.e. minimization of debt, asset acquisition and allocation, etc.). In terms of de emphasizing teaching activities I would address some minimization of low skill type elective courses which may potentially detrimental for student growth and development. 5. After binging, some will even result in taking types of medications in order to prevent any type of weight gain. Furthermore, when attempting to hold off the weight using laxatives or self induced vomiting it s known as the purging type. People who excessively exercise or try to restrict any type of weight gain are known as the non purging type. Purging is usually kept a secret due to the shame and insecurities that follow. Also, most people that are diagnosed with Bulimia also have the same symptoms as someone who has Anorexia Nervosa. However, unlike Anorexia, people with this disorder are more than likely able to maintain a normal weight, sometimes even underweight, but see themselves as overweight or even heavier than what they actually are. Statistics show that 64% of individuals with bulimia have a near normal body weight (Alliance for eating disorders). The current ratio of Starbucks in 2011 increases to 1.83 times from 1.29 times in 2009. To a creditor, higher current ratio means he can get his money more quickly. To the Starbucks, higher current ratio means an inefficient use of cash and other short term asset. • 33. Analysis Of The Poem The Darkness Within Men By Steve... 12 Years a Slave positions utter beauty between and within scenes of violence and abjection to inspire poignant reflection; frequent tranquil landscapes emphasize gruesome acts and remind us of man s capability for despicable amorality. Though we often like to sequester slavery to a time and a place no longer existent, it was not 19th century Louisiana that committed these heinous acts but rather the privileged white men who occupied the territory. Louisiana landscapes are and always will be beautiful; it is man that muddies our retrospective visions. Yet, Steve McQueen allows us to breathe for the beauty itself often provides relief from horrific previous scenes; he simply does not create empty breaks. We both reflect on the darkness within men and wonder exactly how this beauty affects and/or represents the various characters. The jarring juxtaposition of beauty and abjection inspires psychological introspection for we are never awarded with beauty from subjective points of view (it is presented from anonymous angles). The cotton picking scenes and the scene in which Solomon rows down the river illustrate the jarring effects beauty and abjection create when presented simultaneously. Both enforce a separation between man and nature and emphasize the heinous through means of polar comparison, yet also tie visual beauty to the retention of hope. Beginning with the cotton picking sequences, Steven McQueen frequently uses a wide far shot and captures the blinding white ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
