The Life of Spanish Baroque Painter Martolome Esteban Murillo
On January 1st, 1618, Bartolome Esteban Murillo was born in Seville Spain. Murillo was the most
famous Spanish Baroque painter of his time, known for his religious works.
Murillo was the youngest of fourteen children, born to Gaspar Esteban, a barber, and María Perez .
Murillo gained his surname from a traditional Andalusian custom, taking the name of his grandmother,
Elvira Murillo. In 1627, Murillo s father passed away, and his mother died a year later. Murillo was an
orphan at ten years old, and was sent to live with his older sister and her husband.
Murillo was exposed to the art world from a young age. His uncle was a painter, who married the
daughter of another successful artist. All the daughters of this couple went on to marry ... Show more

Even despite this, the 1660 s were the busiest in Murillo s entire career. His portraits from this time are
some of his best,.
In 1680, Murillo was commissioned to paint the main altarpiece for the Capuchins church in Cádiz.
This was an incredible honor. While working up on a scaffold, Murillo fell and died soon after.
During his lifetime, Murillo left an incredible art legacy. His style has similarities from his teacher,
and Zurbarán, the most popular painter in Seville before himself. In his early years, Murillo painted in
the style known as Chiaroscuro. Chiaroscuro is a style with strong contrast between light and dark.
Murillo used a lot of lighting techniques he learned from Zurbaran, but Murillo s works were lighter
and softer than Zurbaran. Overtime, Murillo stopped painting in Chiaroscuro, and his style evolved to
be lighter and more like the style of Federico Barocci. His trip to Madrid further changed his style,
encouraging him to use thick brushstrokes, warm tones, highlights, and richer color. In Murillo s late
life, his style changed again. Murillo used looser brush strokes, and sober colors. It is said that his
work during this time in his life was vaporous and more refined.
One of his more famous paintings is called The Young Beggar and is on display at the Musée du
Louvre, in Paris, France. This painting shows a sad beggar boy sitting alone on a street

The Current Governor Of Texas
The Constitution divides the powers of the government of the State into three distinct departments: the
legislative, the executive and the judicial. Under the terms of the Constitution, no person in any one
department may exercise any power attached to another department unless specifically authorized to
do so by the Constitution.
First is the executive branch. The executive branch is often referred to as a plural executive because
many of the offices in that branch of government are elected directly by Texas voters. The Executive
Department of the State is composed of the Governor, the Lieutenant Governor, the Comptroller of
Public Accounts, the Commissioner of the General Land Office, the Attorney General and the
Secretary of State, all of whom are elected except the Secretary of State (who is appointed by the
Governor). The current governor of Texas (48th) is Republican Greg Abbott, a former lawyer and
former Attorney General. In order to be the governor of Texas, one must be at least 30 years of age, a
US citizen, a registered voter, and must be living in Texas for at least the last 5 years. Being Governor
is a 4 year term with no term limits and is a full time job with a salary of $150,000 per year. The
Governor has powers including some law enforcement powers, some military powers, the title of
Head of State who gives the State of the State Address, can appoint department heads like the
department head of Park and Wildlife and Department of Transportation, and he

The Role Played by the International Force for East Timor...
The Role Played by the International Force for East Timor (INTERFET) in the East Timorese Efforts
to Achieve Independence
Introduction
East Timor (also called Timor Leste in Portuguese) is a country in Southeast Asia. It was a Portuguese
colony from the 16th century up until Portugal s decolonisation in 1975. In 1976 Timor Leste was
invaded by Indonesia who sought to expand its territory. This lead to the development of long guerrilla
warfare between the East Timorese who wanted their independence and the Indonesian troops who
suppressed the East Timorese efforts to independence. This struggle for independence lasted from
1976 until 1999. This led to the deaths of a third of the East Timorese population due to conflict
related ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
INTERFRET withdrew from Timor Leste in February 2000. UNTAET oversaw the democratic
elections held in 2001 and East Timorese independence was official in May 2002.
This topic is of significance because the humanitarian intervention in Timor Leste is regarded as a
prime example of how the use of force by the international community can lead to peace in a country.
In the Timor Leste case the theory of humanitarian intervention is put into practice. As the
peacekeeping forces helped the self determination efforts by the East Timorese by rapidly helping to
quell the violence, and control the civil unrest after the referendum. The humanitarian intervention in
Timor Leste under the aegis of Australia is a worthy case study of a multinational intervention. It is of
great relevance for students of international relations to assess the reasons for the intervention and also
it is important to explore its short and long term effects.
The main research question of this paper is to what extent the International Force for East Timor
(INTERFET) play a role in the East Timorese efforts to achieve independence. This will be explained
in the following chapters. The first chapter examines the circumstances that led to the Humanitarian
Intervention in Timor Leste. Before examining the circumstances that led to intervention in Timor
Leste, in this chapter the concept of

Why I Admire Martin Luther King Jr
I really admire Martin Luther King, Jr for really changing the way blacks live and how unfairly blacks
were treated like giving the black people the same opportunities that whites have, Black people can
drink from the same water fountain, They can sit wherever they want on public transportation, They
can sit wherever they want in a restaurant without being insulted, They can go to the same schools as
white people. He really had an influence on American society and non violence and ending racial
segregation in America. He used nonviolence to create racial equality, He gave african americans the
freedom to express oneself, He also allowed african americans for freedom of speech and religion. I

Satrapi s Resistance In Persepolis
To understand and obey any law forcing individuals to change their way of life causes resistance. In
the graphic novel Persepolis, although she effectively remembers those who suffered, Marjane Satrapi
excels in showing Iranians as very ordinary but interesting people. Satrapi illustrates their normalcy
through everyday activities and their responses to the situation they face within their country.
Although Persepolis is a graphic novel, it portrays issues of politics through the innocence and
lightheartedness of a child. Satrapi acknowledges those who were forced to leave their homes, as well
as, remembering loved ones who have died and suffered. Many were forced to leave and flee their
homeland as it becomes too dangerous to live in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Satrapi portrays herself as an average modern teen through her personal style and music choice. For
instance, she has a Kim Wilde and Iron Maiden poster which her parents smuggled in from Turkey; as
Satrapi describes, two posters, one of Kim Wilde and one of Iron Maiden (126). Although it was
forbidden, Satrapi listened to the music and enjoyed expressing it by the way she dressed. Satrapi is
allowed to wear whatever she pleases as her mother is very permissive; Satrapi explains, I only knew
two or three other girls who could go out alone at thirteen (131)Although, alcohol is strictly forbidden,
Satrapi s family drinks alcohol often as it is an essential to their daily lives. Satrapi discloses her, uncle
was the vintner he had built a genuine winemaking lab in his basement (106) where, Mrs. Nasrine,
who was also his cleaning lady, crushed the grapes (106). They are able to relax and drink as long as
they do not get caught which shows Satrapi s family does not believe in restricting an individual from
being able to consume anything they wish. Nevertheless, Satrapi demonstrates they have kept their
sanity through the madness and bombings, while still retaining time to enjoy themselves. In spite of all
the dangers (106), her family threw parties as, without them it wouldn t be psychologically bearable
(106) and without parties they, might as well just bury [themselves] now (106). The parties were ways
of not only celebrating events (like the birth of Satrapi s cousin), but also coping with the bombings
and dangers which lie outside their homes; distract themselves from their problems. Although Satrapi
is surrounded by eminent threats to her safety, she still risks everything to keep her rationality and
normality as being true to herself is most important to her. Overall, Satrapi uses daily life to express

Primary Peritoniitis
The abdominal cavity is the largest hollow space in the human body and contains the liver, pancreas,
spleen, kidneys and adrenal glands, and the digestive tract. The cavity is lined by a thin, silk like
membrane called the peritoneum which covers the inside wall of the abdominal cavity and every
organ or structure contained in it. A common affliction of the abdominal cavity is peritonitis, which is
an inflammation of the peritoneum membrane caused by the introduction of a fungal or bacterial
infection in an otherwise sterile environment. The infection is often caused by an abdominal injury
that creates a rupture (perforation) within the abdominal cavity, or may arise from a complication of
an underlying medical condition. The infection can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Primary peritonitis is an infection that develops in the abdominal (ascitic) fluid of the peritoneal
cavity. It is mostly seen in patients suffering from advanced liver disease with cirrhosis, where
abdominal fluid builds up (ascites) in the peritoneal cavity and may become infected. Although rare in
the absence of a perforation, there are many underlying conditions that can contribute to the growth of
bacteria in the ascitic fluid. This type is called spontaneous bacterial peritonitis and is the most
common reason of primary peritonitis. Factors that increase risk of primary peritonitis include medical
procedures like peritoneal dialysis, medical conditions such as cirrhosis, kidney failure, and heart
disease, and patient history of peritonitis. However, in most cases the type of infection that develops is
secondary peritonitis, which is usually caused by an infection that has spread from the digestive tract
after trauma or perforation of the abdominal viscera that allows infectious organisms to contaminate
the sterile environment of the peritoneal cavity. Most common causes of secondary peritonitis include
injury or trauma to the peritoneum, a ruptured appendix, or stomach ulcer, digestive diseases such as
Crohn s Disease, and diverticulitis, perforations of the stomach, or intestines, and abdominal trauma
such as injury from a knife or gunshot wound. Both types of peritonitis are life threatening, and when
left untreated can enter into the bloodstream spreading the infection throughout the entire body
leading to shock and organ

Pride In The Necklace By Guy De Maupassant
In the short story the The Necklace the setting takes place in Paris, in the Loisel s apartment and the
party of the Ministry of Education. Guy De Maupassant writes about the internal struggle with
Mme.Loisel and her emotional torture and how she thinks she is better than middle class. Another
conflict in the story would be between Mme.Loisel and M.Loisel, both with different values, M.Loisel
being happy with his life and Mme.Loisel wanting to be filthy rich. The theme of this story is the
theme of pride; Mme.Loisel s pride leads her to want more and more. One day M.Loisel comes home
with an invitation to the Ministry of Education. M.Loisel persuades Mme.Loisel to come; they then
borrow a necklace and buy a dress. By the end of the night she has misplaced the borrowed necklace,
they then try to buy time to try to find the necklace, however cannot find it, they then go to their last

The Role Of Culture And Its Influence On Culture
Topic 3 Role of Culture
Culture can be defined as customs, attitudes and beliefs that is shared throughout a group of members
that is part of society. These attitudes, customs and beliefs are passed down from generation to
generation (Ali Abadi 2015). However, as time progress some cultures may change slightly, but still
keep the most distinctive aspects that are unique to a particular culture.
Culture is important because, it defines our values and beliefs, and that is, essentially, what guides the
decisions we make (Kumar 2012). Culture plays a big role in how we behave in specific situations and
how we perceive the world around us. Culture determines how its members interact with each other.
According to Griffin and Pustay (2007) the global environment is impacted by the elements of culture.
These elements includes social structure, religion, communication methods, language, norms and
attitudes. Cultures can also be collectivist, which is when the needs and goals of the culture as a whole
is placed above the needs and goals of an individual, or individualist, which is when individual needs
take priority over collective needs of a group (Cherry 2015).
For this reason it can be said that one s culture influences one s drive to work, what one would expect
the work place to be like and how the workplace operates on a daily basis as well how to treat co
workers or what treatment to expect from co workers (Ali Abadi 2015). For example, there are some
cultural differences

Nikola Tesla s Accomplishments
Our world has experienced many bright scholars, inventors, and innovators. However, many of them
are not well known. A great example of one of these people is Nikola Tesla. Born in Smiljab, Croatia,
to Ðuka and Milutin Tesla, Tesla was bright at a young age. In addition, he outsmarted Thomas
Edison, had many great accomplishments, and had a quiet later life.
Even at a young age, Tesla was very intelligent. He was born on July 10th, 1856, and had four
siblings, although his brother, Dane Tesla, died after falling from a horse. His mother created various
appliances to make life easier, which may have influenced Nikola to want to become an engineer. His

68ga Anti-Hr2 Case Study
The data obtained from this clinical case show that 68Ga DTPAAnti HER2 has the capability to
identify HER2 expressing metastatic lesions from breast cancer. Importantly, HER2 overexpression
was foreseen in lymph nodes and lung metastases by molecular imaging when the
immunohistochemistry analysis was indeterminate for both metastatic sites and, even if 18F FDG
seems to be better to visualize tumours, 68Ga DTPAAnti HER2 showed high specificity to detect the
pulmonary metastatic lesions. The origin of the moderate uptake using 68Ga DTPAAnti HER2
remains to be determined, but may be related to low levels of HER2 expression.
Noteworthy, 68Ga had a significant background activity in the liver and heart (SUVmax=9.45 and 8.7,
respectively) that did not represent a problem in the present case as signal noise did not interfere with
the detection of the pulmonary masses. Nevertheless, due to the background noise frequently reduces
the detection of tissue lesions11, the latter is proposed as the best time point to obtain images with an
optimal signal to noise ratio12.
Later time points, however, were not assessed in this study because of the short half life of 68Ga (68

Pierre Bourdieu Habitus Capital And Field
Pierre Bourdieu was an acclaimed French sociologist, anthropologist and philosopher, who is still
noted today as being one of the most prominent and influential intellects in recent years. He is famous
for his contributions to many subjects and areas, and much of his work is still considered today as
being classics. His work is considered to be some of the most innovative and groundbreaking bodies
of theory and research in contemporary social science. He is still prominent today for his many great

Field
Field is a term that was coined by Bourdieu himself, and is one of his core concepts. Bourdieu
investigated the connection between people s practises and the context in which these practises occur.
This led him to his concept of field. Deborah Reed Danahay says of field (2005, p. 134) Bourdieu
viewed the field as a concept that was relational rather than substantialist by which he meant an
approach that seeks substances or essences in individuals or groups, and which foregrounds the
individual . A field is defined as a setting in which agents (a person engaging in a social structure) and
their social positions are located. A field is a structured social space that is independent and has its
own set of rules. Instead of viewing society in terms of economic classes and ideologies, Bourdieu
considers the role of educational and cultural factors also. Modern society has many fields; Bourdieu
sees everyday life as consisting of many different fields. Amongst these are politics, education and
law. It is the site of struggle for power between the dominant and subordinate classes. Bourdieu
described the field as a space in which a game took place, between people who are competing for the
same thing; the acquisition of capital. A person s position in a particular field is also dependent on
their own capital, and on their habitus. As stated by Michael Grenfell (2004, p. 172) All those active
within the field share a resonant habitus; in fact, the field chooses the

Similarities Between Cesare Lombroso And William Sheldon
Cesare Lombroso is commonly referred to as the farther of criminology. Lombroso and his followers
helped form the basis of the Positive School of Criminology. He focused on measuring jawbones,
skulls, hands, and other physical traits of groups of prisoners. He believed that criminals are biological
throwbacks to an earlier, more primitive stage of development. Overall, Lombroso concluded that
some people are born criminals, and we are able to identify them based on both their appearance and
behavior. William Sheldon believed that youths with certain physical appearances enhanced their
potential of behaving in a delinquent way. He believed that there are three distinct body types
including endomorph, which is characterized by having a rotund, soft, fleshy body, easygoing,
gregarious, and self indulgent in temperament. Another body type is ectomorph, which is
characterized by someone with a slender fragile body, with small weak appearances, loner,
introspective, and emotionally high strung. The last body type Sheldon identified was mesomorph,
which is identified by having a muscular and firm body, who has a strong frame and resilient
constitution. This individual tends to be energetic, impetuous, and insensitive. Sheldon compared both

Miserable Routines In Ethan Frome By Edith Wharton
There was no way out none. He was a prisoner for life, and now his one ray of light to be extinguished
(Wharton 29). Miserable routines caused by terrible occurrences trappes Ethan Frome every single
day. Edith Wharton opposes the idea of following any routine. Wharton expresses that routines and
cycles prevent a person from expressing their own desires or achieving their personal goals in life.
These cycles prohibit a person from seeing changes within their environment and possible
opportunities that could improve their life. Even if a person breaks free from a routine, an endless
amount of reasons exist to pull them back in. Ethan Frome momentarily escapes from his daily routine
to pursue his education, but not far into this break he has to return in order to help his family. Ethan
Frome somehow found a way out of his miserable routine, but failed to take that exit; resulting in a
life much worse than before. Finding a way out seems like a reasonable solution to escape bad
situations, but taking such a great risk to completely change one s entire life, seems nearly impossible
for any citizens of Starkfield. In the novella, Ethan Frome, Edith Wharton exemplifies how routines
deny a person from reaching their full potential through the constant pull Ethan and other members of
Starkfield receive to follow their normal, average routine and not follow their desires.

The main reason for this is the radical changes put in place so rapidly with immediate effect. This
resulted in lack of structure and consistency throughout the whole chain stores, as you gave each store

The Economic Recession of 2008 Essay
Ever since the Recession of 2008, the process of acquiring employment has become extremely
challenging and exhausting. After months of searching, a significant amount of job seekers are willing
to accept any job offers that will allow them to put food on the tables. If you follow the United States
economic recovery, you probably know that there are about 10.5 million unemployed Americans and
constant debates about how to create more jobs. What you may not know is that there are actually four
million open jobs waiting to be filled. So how is it possible and who is there to blame? First, in order
to better understand the scale of the problem let s take a closer look at the numbers. Since late 2007,
nearly 8.5 million jobs were lost; in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Let s look at all of them and see why they do not always work. Online job search engines are not
being a lot of help these days. Oftentimes the only people you will hear back from would be scammers
and employment agencies seeking to make money on potential hires. After posting a resume on such
web sites, there is a high chance that you will receive hundreds of emails offering work from home, or
immediate job opportunity. Further research on the company will uncover numerous complaints or
scam alerts. When it comes to applying through a corporate web site, there is one thing to be aware of:
companies these days use help of automated resume scanners. With competition being as high as it is,
one job listing attracts hundreds, if not thousands of job applications. In order to sort them out,
corporations utilize special software that scans resumes for specific key words. Even though it makes
the process a lot faster and easier, the automated systems won t necessarily recognize even the best
candidate. With market being on their side, employers also take their time when making hiring
decisions; job seekers are subjected to multiple interviews, screening and tests. Since the process takes
too long, the best candidates might move on long time before company makes up its mind. Job

Jackie Robinson and the Struggle for Equality in Baseball...
Jackie Robinson and the Struggle for Equality in Baseball
Baseball has always been known as America s pastime. But America s pastime, along with America s
past, have both been saturated with the brutal force of racism. For hundreds of years, from the time of
slavery until the middle of the 20th century, African American children rounded up their friends and
headed to the baseball diamond. There, for thousands of young black players, the smell of the grass,
the cloud of dust that formed when running the ninety feet between bases, and the feeling of safely
sliding into homeplate for a run marked the glimmer of fun and excitement in an otherwise dreary day.
However, due to the color of their skin, black children were not awarded these ... Show more content

This feeling was felt until April 15, 1947, until the man who would change all this stepped up to bat,
marking the first time an African American played in the major leagues.# Jackie Robinson was the
man, and as far as the African American race is concerned, Jackie Robinson is the man. The day has
lived in history as the first day of the beginning of a new truth. That, with hard work and a heart the
size of a watermelon, black people could aspire to be more. Jackie Robinson is responsible for the
truth of hope, a truth more powerful than any other. With this new hope, Jackie Robinson and the
African American race marked the beginning of the struggle for the ultimate holy grail...equality. Jack
Roosevelt Robinson was born on January 31, 1919 in Cairo, Georgia. The grandson of a slave and son
of a sharecropper, Jackie, as he become known, struggled from the very beginning. He was the
youngest of five children in a poor family. After his father abandoned him at the age of one, his
mother was forced to work many jobs just to support the family.# Jackie was very outspoken from the
beginning. As a young child confronted with the everyday racist taunts from nearby white children,
Jackie lashed back and always stood up for himself, sometimes to the tune of beatings from the
children. But Jackie didn t care. Even

My Life During The Summer After I Walked A Mile Essay
During the summer after I turned thirteen, I went on a vacation that changed my entire perspective on
life. Americans are so spoiled. I remember hearing my mother proclaim this numerous times growing
up. I would shake my head or roll my eyes every time, since I never quite understood what it meant.
Of course, I had nothing to compare it to. I grew up in the suburbs in a middle class family. I never
wanted for anything. I heard the stories of my mother and her siblings growing up; they lived in filth,
they occasionally skipped meals, all seven kids slept huddled together on concrete floors. I heard those
stories as if she was saying, ...I walked a mile to school, uphill both ways... I never could have
imagined the reality of what the stories truly meant until I visited my birthplace, the Philippines, for
the first time. I was stubborn preteen, and I couldn t understand why my mother was forcing me to
accompany her. I wasn t familiar with my family in the Philippines and I didn t speak the language. I
tried everything I could to get out of it, nevertheless, my mother insisted it would be a memorable
experience. It was a long, twenty one hour flight across the Pacific Ocean. My uncle, whom I hadn t
remembered ever meeting, picked us up in the terminal. My mother whispered and reminded me to be
polite, to honor my elders by remembering to bless them. Embarrassed, and with a slight roll of my
eyes, I obediently bowed my head and placed the top of his hand to my forehead. I

Sam Warner s Influence On The Film Industry
Sam Warner
Sam Warner s influence on cinematography brought the movie industry to where it is now. His story is
both inspiring and tragic. As a boy born in hard times to poor parents, Sam Warner overcame all that
was working against him. From nothing, he built the foundation for the 127 billion dollar company
that Warner Brothers is today. In Baltimore, Maryland, Polish immigrant parents Benjamin and Pearl
Warner gave birth to 5 children: Albert, Henry, Samuel, Rose and Fanny. Times were hard for the
Warner family and money was scarce. Fanny and Henry both died during childhood. Benjamin created
a novel shoe repair while you wait shop which proved to be quite successful for a time. Sending his
kids out to run shoe shine stands and ride paper routes, the Warners were starting to get their foot in
America s doorway. Benjamin, being the entrepreneur that he was, became a part time traveling
salesman for kitchenware and eventually moved to Canada to start a fur trapping business. Things
went south after being screwed over by a business partner, and two more children were born in
Canada: Jack and David. Now in poverty, the Warners moved back to Baltimore and successfully ...

The Cons of the Reverse Hearing Loss
Results May Take Longer To Materialize
Reversing hearing loss through natural methods may take longer than three weeks. That s why you
really have to be patient and dedicated in following this treatment plan.
Our recommendation will be to stick to the Reverse Hearing Loss plan for at least 4 5 weeks before
making any conclusions.
Not For Hearing Loss Present At Birth
Congenital deafness could be due to a number of reasons, which could be genetic or nongenetic. It s
more complicated to treat, and we don t think this Amish remedy could help reverse this type of
hearing loss. Before you start following the Reverse Hearing Loss program you may want to consult a
qualified healthcare provider to know the treatment that s most appropriate for you or your child.

a. Agreement or promise theory
Gerald Fridman contends that the primary purpose of contract law is to enforce the agreement of the
parties. Agreement is the central element in determining whether there is a contract. Also, the
existence of a contract requires the parties voluntarily intend to be bound by the agreement. In
interpreting contracts, courts are primarily trying to carry out the intent of the contractual parties;
therefore, when one party frustrates the intentions of the other party, a breach occurs.
Charles Fried asserts that enforcing promises is the main purpose of contract law. One initiates a
contract by invoking the practice of promising, and the other party can reasonably trust him or she will
perform as promised in the future. If one fails to fulfill the promises, he or she then damages or ruins
the trust, and exhibits disrespect for the other party. This behavior is morally wrong and condemned
by the society. To enforce promises, the social practice of promising should be supplemented with
additional rules or standards. The role of contract law is to provide rules and standards to further that
purposes. When the promise principle under Fried s theory does not provide a ground for relief, other
contract law principles may still fill the gap. For example, the principle of benefit requires
compensating others for non gift benefits received from them. Additionally, contract law also enforces
promise by awarding expectation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Social Work s core philosophy and values are centered around social justice and social well being.
Oppression, injustice, discrimination, and violence are antithetical to the social work profession.
Social Work believes in strength based approaches and the person in environment perspective to cater
the needs and welfare of individuals, families, groups, communities, and society at large. Generally,
the target populations for social work are vulnerable, marginalized, and oppressed people; however,
social workers provide services to people with a wide range of problems, such as poverty, addiction,

Several decades after the Civil Right Acts of 1964 were passed, we still hear the slogans of Black lives
matter and All lives matter. According to the NASW Code of Ethics (1996), social workers should be
sensitive to cultural and ethnic diversity and strive to end discrimination, oppression, poverty, and
other forms of social injustice (p. 3). Social workers and the profession as a whole should address
problems related to minority groups to make our society equitable, just, and responsive to social
justice. As a measure of this ethical standard, the content of the major journal of NASW (National
Association of Social Work), Social Work, should reflect studies conducted by researchers on minority
groups and their problems, which this study intends to analyze. Additionally, Council on Social Work
Education has required social work schools to maintain cultural diversity in students enrollment,
hiring of faculty, and the development of curricula (Trolander, 1997), but how well this diversity is
reflected in research studies is a matter of exploration, which this study has tried to address by doing

Ups vs Fedex Analytical Report
COMMUNICATION COMPARISON
FedEx vs. UPS
Background:
The basis of the analytical report will be comparing Fed Ex and the United Postal Service (UPS).
These two companies are the top in their industry. Each company trying to achieve the role of the
industry leader they constantly battle head to head combining strategy and brute force. Fed Ex was
incorporated in 1971, but did not officially begin operations until April of 1973. Fed Ex started out
delivering to only 25 cities and did not start to expand until 1977. UPS was founded in 1907 starting
out with a Model T Ford and a few motorcycles. UPS has since grown its fleet into 15,000+ trucks

employees covered by a railroad and airline law. Most of the forces are from moderate to low besides
the threat of intense rivalry which signals that this is an attractive industry to be within.
Business Level Strategy:
From the beginning UPS and FedEx both had very different strategies in the delivery industry. UPS
was focused on ground transportation, as more of a substitute for United States Postal Service. UPS
has over 100,000 ground transportation vehicles compared to only 20,000 ground vehicles in service
at FedEx. The focus of FedEx has always been to be an air delivery company that is trying to pursue a
strategy of being able to deliver a parcel the next day. FedEx proves this focus with nearly 700 jets in
service compared to only 300 at rival UPS. FedEx and UPS both say the market of overnight delivery
as the direction to pursue. UPS was able to accept this and move forward allowing its ground
department to absorb the expense, while FedEx suffered a great deal and we hit with higher cost do to
them having to hire independent contractors. Over the years, these two companies have changed their
overall positioning strategy in the domestic delivery industry. As

The Importance Of Creating And Managing A Culturally...
Introduction Maya Angelou, a famous African American poet, once said, We all should know that
diversity makes for a rich tapestry, and we must understand that all the threads of the tapestry are
equal in value no matter what their colour, (Angelou Johnson, 2014). This quote shows how cultural
diversity is widely believed to be a benefit to society, but how do these benefits stretch to the context
of a business? This review will be looking into literature surrounding the question, what are the key
outcomes of creating and managing a culturally diverse working environment? Over 20 years ago, a
prediction was made that the demographics of the workforce would start to change significantly and
researchers and writers began endorsing the need for organisations to create supportive workplaces
where diversity is valued, (Cox, 1994). They have argued that diversity is a double edged sword; it has
the potential for positive and negative outcomes, (Chrobot Mason Aramovich, 2013). Chrobot Mason
and Aramovich (2013) also added that the way to ensure positive outcomes from diversity was the
effective management of the workplace. This review will be exploring how effective management of a
diverse workforce can bring about positive outcomes for employees and whole organisations through
increased senses of identity for workers leading to lower turnover rates, and increased innovation
within an organisation. Turnover Rates Diversity within organisations has been linked to overall

Beowulf And Judith Research Paper
In your opinion, what characteristics must a character possess to be considered an epic hero in a story?
Is it someone who can defeat a giant beast? Or is it someone who shows great nobility in completing
tasks for the betterment of others? In the book The Longman Anthology of British Literature, we are
introduced to two heroic poems and characters by the name of Beowulf and Judith. In this Compare
and Contrast Paper, I will break the common misconception of what an Epic Hero must possess as

when his evilly renowned soldiers bring the holy woman Judith to the Generals pavilion. On page 144
Holofernes is trying to defile the noble lady with filth and with pollution , but the Heaven s Judge
would not consent but instead the Lord, Ruler of the hosts, prevented him from the act. Instead of
giving into temptation and losing her pure virgin reputation or being a holy woman Judith uses all of
her strength along with Gods help to put an end to the beast s life on earth. In this instant, Judith also
displays another Epic hero characteristic which is being a cultural exemplar. Despite their differences,
the poems were built on the same values and morals which people sought to live up to in real life
battles and wars. Being a cultural exemplar is one the Characteristics of the Epic hero list sitting at
number six. This is a person who has something that their cultural values and they carry this

King Tutankhamun and His Treasures
The ancient Egyptians were noted for many things, one of which would have been their artwork.
Egyptians used many medians in their artwork that enhanced the details and beauty of every piece of
art. Their artwork is fascinating and mysterious, which pulls in the viewer into wanting to learn more.
One of the most important and unique Egyptian artworks belongs to King Tutankhamun, a young
pharaoh of Egypt. A brief history of the discovery of King Tut s tomb and the importance and beauty
of certain pieces found in his tomb, will be discussed in this essay.

Peace was brought to Egypt during his reign as the worship of Amon, the Egyptians universal god,
abandoned under Akhenaton, was restored and Thebes, the city sacred to Amon, was again made
Egypt s capital. King Tut was not really an important pharaoh, but he is well known today because of
his intact tomb and the fabulous treasures found within.
King Tut s tomb contained many beautiful and elaborate pieces of artwork. Artwork varying from
wood sculptures, gold statues, wall paintings, writing utensils, intricate pieces of jewelry, busts of the
king s head, and many more were all discovered in his tomb. The sculptures illustrate how Egyptian
sculptors represent the realistically poses and statures of the human body. Detail is another factor that
is seen in all the artwork, whether it be a painted eye, a perfectly carved beetle (scarab), or the
placement of different colored jewels in a necklace. I am astounded at how many items were found
and how each one is entirely different from the next. It s amazing to know that Egyptians cared so
much for their leaders to put so much time and effort into their artwork.
One piece that stands out of all the treasures in King Tut s tomb is the bust of his head that is resting
on what is said to be a lotus. The bust is carved in wood and overlaid with gesso (a mixture of plaster
and glue for use as a surface for painting). The face represents King Tut as a child with
disproportionate earlobes and it has

The Important Role of Confederate Women in the American Civil War
Women in the Confederacy had a great impact on the Civil War. They were thrown into totally
different lifestyles ones that did not include men taking care of the land and other businesses. Women
had more control of their lives than ever before. Some took it upon themselves to get involved directly
with the war while others just kept the home fires burning. Whatever roles they played, women
contributed a multitude of skills to the Civil War effort.
The life of a plantation mistress changed significantly once her husband left to join the Southern army.

Some, however, were much closer to the battlefield than they would have liked to have been. Lucy
Breckinridge, a nineteen year old girl who lived in the Shenandoah Valley, wrote in her diary how she
could hear the cannons over the mountains. Carrie Berry consistently wrote that her family spent a
good part of two months in the cellar while her home was being bombarded by shells. Another
nineteen year old, Sarah Morgan, from Baton Rouge, went to the levees to watch the battles, even
though it was against her mother s wishes.5 But some women took it a step further: rather than just
watching the men fight for the Southern states, a few women decided to pick up a gun and join the
ranks.
It is not known how many women actually participated in battle; however, the number seems to be
higher than anyone expected. These women played the role of the warrior and literally gave up their
gender to fight. One such case is Amy Clark. She dressed like a man to serve in the Confederate army
with her husband. After his death, she continued her service and was wounded and captured by the
Union. Once the North discovered her true identity, they released her back into the Southern army and
insisted that she wear a dress. Some say that Amy Clark may have worn lieutenant s bars on her
uniform. Another women who dressed as a man to fight was Malenda Blalock, who posed as a brother
to her husband. Another southern female warrior was Madame

Stradbroke Island Case Study
Stradbroke Island s sandmining industry grew from modest beginnings where as early as 1948 hand
mining using shovels and trucks on the beach was established. Over numerous decades this soon
developed into present days use of large scale dredging. The establishment of aerial ropeways to
transport minerals for processing to Dunwich began in 1956 where the commencement of dredge
mining was initiated. Only a decade later, the concentrations of the rich black mineral being mined
were exhausted to the point that the miners moved their operations to the fore dunes. Whilst the
mining only caused minimal disruption to the environment, as the industry began to expand in the
1970s so did the impact on North Stradbroke s ecosystem. Sand mining company Consolidated Rutile
Limited (CRL) instigated dredge mining on Stradbroke s high dunes in 1979, this radically altered the

Pulp Fiction Analysis
Tarantino s Depiction of Violence
Quentin Tarantino is well known and often criticized for his depiction of violence in his films.
Although at times graphic, Tarantino s violence holds a purpose. This paper will look at two films,
Jackie Brown and Pulp Fiction, and their depiction of violence and the aesthetics used. It will also
look at classic film conventions and ultraviolence aesthetics used by Tarantino. Finally, the paper will
determine what aesthetics Tarantino carries over in each film.
Quentin Tarantino s depiction of violence in Pulp Fiction becomes bloodier and more graphic as the
film continues. Early in the film, Martellus shoots two people, neither of which show any blood or
even a gunshot wound. Tarantino uses a classic film convention where the victim of the gunshot
clutches the spot where they were shot, covering what in real life would be a gunshot wound. He
employs another classic film convention later when Mia is stabbed in the heart with the adrenaline
shot. Instead of showing the violent act, Tarantino shows Mia s reaction to being stabbed in the heart.
In the next segment of the film, Butch shoots Vincent with a small machine gun. It riddles Vincent s
body with bullet holes and is the first time the clutch technique isn t used. Vincent s body is shown
covered in blood around the abdomen in a very bloody bathroom. This marks the transition in Pulp
Fiction from a more classical style of violence to contemporary ultraviolence.
From now on in the film,

  • 2. The Life of Spanish Baroque Painter Martolome Esteban Murillo On January 1st, 1618, Bartolome Esteban Murillo was born in Seville Spain. Murillo was the most famous Spanish Baroque painter of his time, known for his religious works. Murillo was the youngest of fourteen children, born to Gaspar Esteban, a barber, and María Perez . Murillo gained his surname from a traditional Andalusian custom, taking the name of his grandmother, Elvira Murillo. In 1627, Murillo s father passed away, and his mother died a year later. Murillo was an orphan at ten years old, and was sent to live with his older sister and her husband. Murillo was exposed to the art world from a young age. His uncle was a painter, who married the daughter of another successful artist. All the daughters of this couple went on to marry ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Even despite this, the 1660 s were the busiest in Murillo s entire career. His portraits from this time are some of his best,. In 1680, Murillo was commissioned to paint the main altarpiece for the Capuchins church in Cádiz. This was an incredible honor. While working up on a scaffold, Murillo fell and died soon after. During his lifetime, Murillo left an incredible art legacy. His style has similarities from his teacher, and Zurbarán, the most popular painter in Seville before himself. In his early years, Murillo painted in the style known as Chiaroscuro. Chiaroscuro is a style with strong contrast between light and dark. Murillo used a lot of lighting techniques he learned from Zurbaran, but Murillo s works were lighter and softer than Zurbaran. Overtime, Murillo stopped painting in Chiaroscuro, and his style evolved to be lighter and more like the style of Federico Barocci. His trip to Madrid further changed his style, encouraging him to use thick brushstrokes, warm tones, highlights, and richer color. In Murillo s late life, his style changed again. Murillo used looser brush strokes, and sober colors. It is said that his work during this time in his life was vaporous and more refined. One of his more famous paintings is called The Young Beggar and is on display at the Musée du Louvre, in Paris, France. This painting shows a sad beggar boy sitting alone on a street ... • 3. The Current Governor Of Texas The Constitution divides the powers of the government of the State into three distinct departments: the legislative, the executive and the judicial. Under the terms of the Constitution, no person in any one department may exercise any power attached to another department unless specifically authorized to do so by the Constitution. First is the executive branch. The executive branch is often referred to as a plural executive because many of the offices in that branch of government are elected directly by Texas voters. The Executive Department of the State is composed of the Governor, the Lieutenant Governor, the Comptroller of Public Accounts, the Commissioner of the General Land Office, the Attorney General and the Secretary of State, all of whom are elected except the Secretary of State (who is appointed by the Governor). The current governor of Texas (48th) is Republican Greg Abbott, a former lawyer and former Attorney General. In order to be the governor of Texas, one must be at least 30 years of age, a US citizen, a registered voter, and must be living in Texas for at least the last 5 years. The Role Played by the International Force for East Timor (INTERFET) in the East Timorese Efforts to Achieve Independence Introduction East Timor (also called Timor Leste in Portuguese) is a country in Southeast Asia. It was a Portuguese colony from the 16th century up until Portugal s decolonisation in 1975. In 1976 Timor Leste was invaded by Indonesia who sought to expand its territory. This lead to the development of long guerrilla warfare between the East Timorese who wanted their independence and the Indonesian troops who suppressed the East Timorese efforts to independence. INTERFRET withdrew from Timor Leste in February 2000. UNTAET oversaw the democratic elections held in 2001 and East Timorese independence was official in May 2002. This topic is of significance because the humanitarian intervention in Timor Leste is regarded as a prime example of how the use of force by the international community can lead to peace in a country. In the Timor Leste case the theory of humanitarian intervention is put into practice. As the peacekeeping forces helped the self determination efforts by the East Timorese by rapidly helping to quell the violence, and control the civil unrest after the referendum. The humanitarian intervention in Timor Leste under the aegis of Australia is a worthy case study of a multinational intervention. It is of great relevance for students of international relations to assess the reasons for the intervention and also it is important to explore its short and long term effects. The main research question of this paper is to what extent the International Force for East Timor (INTERFET) play a role in the East Timorese efforts to achieve independence. This will be explained in the following chapters. The first chapter examines the circumstances that led to the Humanitarian Intervention in Timor Leste. Before examining the circumstances that led to intervention in Timor Leste, in this chapter the concept of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Satrapi discloses her, uncle was the vintner he had built a genuine winemaking lab in his basement (106) where, Mrs. Nasrine, who was also his cleaning lady, crushed the grapes (106). They are able to relax and drink as long as they do not get caught which shows Satrapi s family does not believe in restricting an individual from being able to consume anything they wish. Nevertheless, Satrapi demonstrates they have kept their sanity through the madness and bombings, while still retaining time to enjoy themselves. In spite of all the dangers (106), her family threw parties as, without them it wouldn t be psychologically bearable (106) and without parties they, might as well just bury [themselves] now (106). The parties were ways of not only celebrating events (like the birth of Satrapi s cousin), but also coping with the bombings and dangers which lie outside their homes; distract themselves from their problems. The cavity is lined by a thin, silk like membrane called the peritoneum which covers the inside wall of the abdominal cavity and every organ or structure contained in it. A common affliction of the abdominal cavity is peritonitis, which is an inflammation of the peritoneum membrane caused by the introduction of a fungal or bacterial infection in an otherwise sterile environment. It is mostly seen in patients suffering from advanced liver disease with cirrhosis, where abdominal fluid builds up (ascites) in the peritoneal cavity and may become infected. Although rare in the absence of a perforation, there are many underlying conditions that can contribute to the growth of bacteria in the ascitic fluid. This type is called spontaneous bacterial peritonitis and is the most common reason of primary peritonitis. Factors that increase risk of primary peritonitis include medical procedures like peritoneal dialysis, medical conditions such as cirrhosis, kidney failure, and heart disease, and patient history of peritonitis. However, in most cases the type of infection that develops is secondary peritonitis, which is usually caused by an infection that has spread from the digestive tract after trauma or perforation of the abdominal viscera that allows infectious organisms to contaminate the sterile environment of the peritoneal cavity. Most common causes of secondary peritonitis include injury or trauma to the peritoneum, a ruptured appendix, or stomach ulcer, digestive diseases such as Crohn s Disease, and diverticulitis, perforations of the stomach, or intestines, and abdominal trauma such as injury from a knife or gunshot wound. • 13. The Role Of Culture And Its Influence On Culture Topic 3 Role of Culture Culture can be defined as customs, attitudes and beliefs that is shared throughout a group of members that is part of society. These attitudes, customs and beliefs are passed down from generation to generation (Ali Abadi 2015). However, as time progress some cultures may change slightly, but still keep the most distinctive aspects that are unique to a particular culture. Culture is important because, it defines our values and beliefs, and that is, essentially, what guides the decisions we make (Kumar 2012). Culture plays a big role in how we behave in specific situations and how we perceive the world around us. Culture determines how its members interact with each other. According to Griffin and Pustay (2007) the global environment is impacted by the elements of culture. These elements includes social structure, religion, communication methods, language, norms and attitudes. Cultures can also be collectivist, which is when the needs and goals of the culture as a whole is placed above the needs and goals of an individual, or individualist, which is when individual needs take priority over collective needs of a group (Cherry 2015). For this reason it can be said that one s culture influences one s drive to work, what one would expect the work place to be like and how the workplace operates on a daily basis as well how to treat co workers or what treatment to expect from co workers (Ali Abadi 2015). For example, there are some cultural differences ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Importantly, HER2 overexpression was foreseen in lymph nodes and lung metastases by molecular imaging when the immunohistochemistry analysis was indeterminate for both metastatic sites and, even if 18F FDG seems to be better to visualize tumours, 68Ga DTPAAnti HER2 showed high specificity to detect the pulmonary metastatic lesions. The origin of the moderate uptake using 68Ga DTPAAnti HER2 remains to be determined, but may be related to low levels of HER2 expression. Noteworthy, 68Ga had a significant background activity in the liver and heart (SUVmax=9.45 and 8.7, respectively) that did not represent a problem in the present case as signal noise did not interfere with the detection of the pulmonary masses. Nevertheless, due to the background noise frequently reduces the detection of tissue lesions11, the latter is proposed as the best time point to obtain images with an optimal signal to noise ratio12. Bourdieu investigated the connection between people s practises and the context in which these practises occur. This led him to his concept of field. Deborah Reed Danahay says of field (2005, p. 134) Bourdieu viewed the field as a concept that was relational rather than substantialist by which he meant an approach that seeks substances or essences in individuals or groups, and which foregrounds the individual . A field is defined as a setting in which agents (a person engaging in a social structure) and their social positions are located. A field is a structured social space that is independent and has its own set of rules. Instead of viewing society in terms of economic classes and ideologies, Bourdieu considers the role of educational and cultural factors also. Modern society has many fields; Bourdieu sees everyday life as consisting of many different fields. Amongst these are politics, education and law. It is the site of struggle for power between the dominant and subordinate classes. Bourdieu described the field as a space in which a game took place, between people who are competing for the same thing; the acquisition of capital. Miserable routines caused by terrible occurrences trappes Ethan Frome every single day. Edith Wharton opposes the idea of following any routine. Wharton expresses that routines and cycles prevent a person from expressing their own desires or achieving their personal goals in life. These cycles prohibit a person from seeing changes within their environment and possible opportunities that could improve their life. Even if a person breaks free from a routine, an endless amount of reasons exist to pull them back in. Ethan Frome momentarily escapes from his daily routine to pursue his education, but not far into this break he has to return in order to help his family. Ethan Frome somehow found a way out of his miserable routine, but failed to take that exit; resulting in a life much worse than before. Finding a way out seems like a reasonable solution to escape bad situations, but taking such a great risk to completely change one s entire life, seems nearly impossible for any citizens of Starkfield. In the novella, Ethan Frome, Edith Wharton exemplifies how routines deny a person from reaching their full potential through the constant pull Ethan and other members of Starkfield receive to follow their normal, average routine and not follow their desires. • 27. Gerald Fridman a. Agreement or promise theory Gerald Fridman contends that the primary purpose of contract law is to enforce the agreement of the parties. Agreement is the central element in determining whether there is a contract. Also, the existence of a contract requires the parties voluntarily intend to be bound by the agreement. In interpreting contracts, courts are primarily trying to carry out the intent of the contractual parties; therefore, when one party frustrates the intentions of the other party, a breach occurs. Charles Fried asserts that enforcing promises is the main purpose of contract law. One initiates a contract by invoking the practice of promising, and the other party can reasonably trust him or she will perform as promised in the future. If one fails to fulfill the promises, he or she then damages or ruins the trust, and exhibits disrespect for the other party. This behavior is morally wrong and condemned by the society. To enforce promises, the social practice of promising should be supplemented with additional rules or standards. The role of contract law is to provide rules and standards to further that purposes. When the promise principle under Fried s theory does not provide a ground for relief, other contract law principles may still fill the gap. For example, the principle of benefit requires compensating others for non gift benefits received from them. Additionally, contract law also enforces promise by awarding expectation ... According to the NASW Code of Ethics (1996), social workers should be sensitive to cultural and ethnic diversity and strive to end discrimination, oppression, poverty, and other forms of social injustice (p. 3). Social workers and the profession as a whole should address problems related to minority groups to make our society equitable, just, and responsive to social justice. As a measure of this ethical standard, the content of the major journal of NASW (National Association of Social Work), Social Work, should reflect studies conducted by researchers on minority groups and their problems, which this study intends to analyze. Additionally, Council on Social Work Education has required social work schools to maintain cultural diversity in students enrollment, hiring of faculty, and the development of curricula (Trolander, 1997), but how well this diversity is reflected in research studies is a matter of exploration, which this study has tried to address by doing the content analysis of the most prestigious social work journal, Social ... Rival UPS calls FedEx the only company in the transportation industry with ground employees covered by a railroad and airline law. Most of the forces are from moderate to low besides the threat of intense rivalry which signals that this is an attractive industry to be within. Business Level Strategy: From the beginning UPS and FedEx both had very different strategies in the delivery industry. UPS was focused on ground transportation, as more of a substitute for United States Postal Service. UPS has over 100,000 ground transportation vehicles compared to only 20,000 ground vehicles in service at FedEx. The focus of FedEx has always been to be an air delivery company that is trying to pursue a strategy of being able to deliver a parcel the next day. FedEx proves this focus with nearly 700 jets in service compared to only 300 at rival UPS. FedEx and UPS both say the market of overnight delivery as the direction to pursue. UPS was able to accept this and move forward allowing its ground department to absorb the expense, while FedEx suffered a great deal and we hit with higher cost do to them having to hire independent contractors. Over the years, these two companies have changed their overall positioning strategy in the domestic delivery industry. As ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 30. The Importance Of Creating And Managing A Culturally... Introduction Maya Angelou, a famous African American poet, once said, We all should know that diversity makes for a rich tapestry, and we must understand that all the threads of the tapestry are equal in value no matter what their colour, (Angelou Johnson, 2014). This quote shows how cultural diversity is widely believed to be a benefit to society, but how do these benefits stretch to the context of a business? This review will be looking into literature surrounding the question, what are the key outcomes of creating and managing a culturally diverse working environment? Over 20 years ago, a prediction was made that the demographics of the workforce would start to change significantly and researchers and writers began endorsing the need for organisations to create supportive workplaces where diversity is valued, (Cox, 1994). They have argued that diversity is a double edged sword; it has the potential for positive and negative outcomes, (Chrobot Mason Aramovich, 2013). Chrobot Mason and Aramovich (2013) also added that the way to ensure positive outcomes from diversity was the effective management of the workplace. This review will be exploring how effective management of a diverse workforce can bring about positive outcomes for employees and whole organisations through increased senses of identity for workers leading to lower turnover rates, and increased innovation within an organisation. Turnover Rates Diversity within organisations has been linked to overall ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. Beowulf And Judith Research Paper In your opinion, what characteristics must a character possess to be considered an epic hero in a story? Is it someone who can defeat a giant beast? In this Compare and Contrast Paper, I will break the common misconception of what an Epic Hero must possess as well as show you that there is no need for mythical creatures or God like weapons. In a way, Judith must overcome her own beast, Holofernes. Holofernes is a beast because he tries to take advantage of Judith and rape her. Similarly, an unrealistic event occurs when his evilly renowned soldiers bring the holy woman Judith to the Generals pavilion. On page 144 Holofernes is trying to defile the noble lady with filth and with pollution , but the Heaven s Judge would not consent but instead the Lord, Ruler of the hosts, prevented him from the act. Instead of giving into temptation and losing her pure virgin reputation or being a holy woman Judith uses all of her strength along with Gods help to put an end to the beast s life on earth. In this instant, Judith also displays another Epic hero characteristic which is being a cultural exemplar. Despite their differences, the poems were built on the same values and morals which people sought to live up to in real life battles and wars. Being a cultural exemplar is one the Characteristics of the Epic hero list sitting at number six. This is a person who has something that their cultural values and they carry this distinctive value in abundance. For Judith, her culture values virginity. Peace was brought to Egypt during his reign as the worship of Amon, the Egyptians universal god, abandoned under Akhenaton, was restored and Thebes, the city sacred to Amon, was again made Egypt s capital. King Tut was not really an important pharaoh, but he is well known today because of his intact tomb and the fabulous treasures found within. King Tut s tomb contained many beautiful and elaborate pieces of artwork. Artwork varying from wood sculptures, gold statues, wall paintings, writing utensils, intricate pieces of jewelry, busts of the king s head, and many more were all discovered in his tomb. The sculptures illustrate how Egyptian sculptors represent the realistically poses and statures of the human body. Detail is another factor that is seen in all the artwork, whether it be a painted eye, a perfectly carved beetle (scarab), or the placement of different colored jewels in a necklace. I am astounded at how many items were found and how each one is entirely different from the next. It s amazing to know that Egyptians cared so much for their leaders to put so much time and effort into their artwork. One piece that stands out of all the treasures in King Tut s tomb is the bust of his head that is resting on what is said to be a lotus. The bust is carved in wood and overlaid with gesso (a mixture of plaster and glue for use as a surface for painting). The face represents King Tut as a child with disproportionate earlobes and it has ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. The Important Role of Confederate Women in the American... The Important Role of Confederate Women in the American Civil War Women in the Confederacy had a great impact on the Civil War. They were thrown into totally different lifestyles ones that did not include men taking care of the land and other businesses. Women had more control of their lives than ever before. Some took it upon themselves to get involved directly with the war while others just kept the home fires burning. Whatever roles they played, women contributed a multitude of skills to the Civil War effort. The life of a plantation mistress changed significantly once her husband left to join the Southern army. A majority of them stayed right on the land even if they were rich enough to move to a safer place. While there, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some, however, were much closer to the battlefield than they would have liked to have been. Lucy Breckinridge, a nineteen year old girl who lived in the Shenandoah Valley, wrote in her diary how she could hear the cannons over the mountains. Carrie Berry consistently wrote that her family spent a good part of two months in the cellar while her home was being bombarded by shells. Another nineteen year old, Sarah Morgan, from Baton Rouge, went to the levees to watch the battles, even though it was against her mother s wishes.5 But some women took it a step further: rather than just watching the men fight for the Southern states, a few women decided to pick up a gun and join the ranks. It is not known how many women actually participated in battle; however, the number seems to be higher than anyone expected. These women played the role of the warrior and literally gave up their gender to fight. One such case is Amy Clark. She dressed like a man to serve in the Confederate army with her husband. After his death, she continued her service and was wounded and captured by the Union. Once the North discovered her true identity, they released her back into the Southern army and insisted that she wear a dress. Some say that Amy Clark may have worn lieutenant s bars on her uniform. Another women who dressed as a man to fight was Malenda Blalock, who posed as a brother to her husband. Another southern female warrior was Madame ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 35. Stradbroke Island Case Study Stradbroke Island s sandmining industry grew from modest beginnings where as early as 1948 hand mining using shovels and trucks on the beach was established. Over numerous decades this soon developed into present days use of large scale dredging. The establishment of aerial ropeways to transport minerals for processing to Dunwich began in 1956 where the commencement of dredge mining was initiated. Only a decade later, the concentrations of the rich black mineral being mined were exhausted to the point that the miners moved their operations to the fore dunes. Whilst the mining only caused minimal disruption to the environment, as the industry began to expand in the 1970s so did the impact on North Stradbroke s ecosystem. Sand mining company Consolidated Rutile Limited (CRL) instigated dredge mining on Stradbroke s high dunes in 1979, this radically altered the landscape of North Stradbroke Island (Sweet, C 2010). • 36. Pulp Fiction Analysis Tarantino s Depiction of Violence Quentin Tarantino is well known and often criticized for his depiction of violence in his films. Although at times graphic, Tarantino s violence holds a purpose. This paper will look at two films, Jackie Brown and Pulp Fiction, and their depiction of violence and the aesthetics used. It will also look at classic film conventions and ultraviolence aesthetics used by Tarantino. Finally, the paper will determine what aesthetics Tarantino carries over in each film. Quentin Tarantino s depiction of violence in Pulp Fiction becomes bloodier and more graphic as the film continues. Early in the film, Martellus shoots two people, neither of which show any blood or even a gunshot wound. Tarantino uses a classic film convention where the victim of the gunshot clutches the spot where they were shot, covering what in real life would be a gunshot wound. He employs another classic film convention later when Mia is stabbed in the heart with the adrenaline shot. Instead of showing the violent act, Tarantino shows Mia s reaction to being stabbed in the heart. In the next segment of the film, Butch shoots Vincent with a small machine gun. It riddles Vincent s body with bullet holes and is the first time the clutch technique isn t used. Vincent s body is shown covered in blood around the abdomen in a very bloody bathroom. This marks the transition in Pulp Fiction from a more classical style of violence to contemporary ultraviolence. From now on in the film, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
