Indigenous Religions
There are many religions in the world. From Indigenous Faiths, Hinduism, Buddhism, Daoism,
Confucianism, Shinto, Judaism, Christianity, Islam, and Sikhism, they are all unique in their own way
and they each give something to their followers that they need and are seeking. While all of these
religions seem to have the same end goal they are different in many ways as well. Take Christianity
and Islam. Christianity is a faith that follows the teachings of Jesus Christ. He is considered the Son of
God that cam down from heaven in human form to then sacrifice His life for the sins of mankind. He
did this so that mankind can reconcile with God. Muhammad founded Islam. He acknowledged a
revelation from God, which he then called all people to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

birth name is Elijah Poole. He was born October 7, 1897 in Sandersville, Georgia. His parents,

Living in the south during his childhood he had to deal with the racially segregated South. After
meeting Wallace Fard the founder of the Nation of Islam he became a member in 1931, changed his
last name from Poole to Muhammad. He became an early disciple of W.D. Fard and shortly after Fard

Nation of Islam. He did though change the theology of the movement. Elijah proclaimed Fard to be an
incarnation of Allah (God). Elijah was then made Fard s divinely appointed prophet. Elijah built his
ideas on a few principles such as: Islam is the only true religion, knowing ones self is vital, doing for

Criminal Procedure
John Doe is an individual that left his country in an effort to make a better life. However, he does not
have legal status in America and was recently arrested for shoplifting merchandise, which was valued
over $1,000. At the time of his arrest, John voluntarily began to make incriminating statements to the
arresting officers. At the police station, detectives conducted an interview of John asking him about
the theft. John Doe has had no prior arrests, is 35 years old, and most of John Doe s family still resides
in his home country. Due to the amount of money involved, the crime is deemed a felony and John

If there was no warrant for John s arrest this hearing will also determine if there is probable cause
(Gerstein v. Pugh). Probable cause means that a reasonable ground exists for belief in the facts.
The court can either choose to do a preliminary hearing or grand jury for John s first appearance.. In a
preliminary hearing is conducted with no jury and the judge is the fact finder. A grand jury hearing is
where the prosecution presents the case to a group of citizens outside the presence of the defendant
and they (the grand jurors) are asked to determine whether probable cause exists based on the
evidence presented to them by the prosecution.
Some issues that the judge would have to take into consideration when setting bail for John is that he
does not have legal status in this country, and most of his family still resides in his home country. Per
the eighth amendment the judge must set a reasonable and fair amount of bail.
An arraignment is a formal reading of a criminal charge document in the presence of the defendant to
inform him of the charges against him. In response to an arraignment the accused is expected to enter
a plea. Acceptable pleas vary among jurisdictions, but they usually include guilty , not guilty , and

Theories and Theory Combination
Theory is brought to bear to illumine and improve practice. However, a single theory is incomplete
and partial. Therefore, practitioners need to employ various theories in combination without paying
the full prices of their incompleteness and partially (Schwab, 1969/ 1978, p.297). Theory is an idea
which used to clarify and justify phenomenon. It is also used to advocate truth of certain practices and
procedures. Nevertheless improvement and enhancement cannot be implemented with a single theory.
There are few weaknesses of single theory; firstly the edifice of a theory is not sufficed or inadequate
to address teaching and learning problems. Each theory can only be applied to certain circumstances.
For instance, how to teach mathematic if the students are unable to understand? One theory is unable
to address because each theory have different kind of solution. Secondly although some theories are
borrowed in a chosen subject matter which is appropriate yet are questionable because some are
doctrinaire because of the personalities and others. Lastly, the theories borrowed although may
sufficient but it is focused only in a subject matter. In reality, the theory which looks into a subject
matter is not enough without including other subject matter. For instant Nel Noddings (1984a) is fore
grounded the ethic of care, her rational is all of us want to be cared and it is basic in human life. She

The Problem Of Hate Crimes
Abstract
Over the past decade school violence has been on the rise. School violence has always existed in some
form or another, whether it is a fight out on the playground or a stabbing in the parking lot. However
nothing got the nation s attentions like on April 20, 1999, Columbine school shooting. Ever since that
day the nation wants to know what to do to protect the kids in this country. Violence motivated by a
bias against victims characteristics which include race, religion, ethnic background, national origin,
gender, or sexual orientation, represents a serious threat to all communities. Experts estimate that a
bias related crime is committed every 14 minutes. Criminal justice officials and state policy makers
need to realize that it is key to make or adjust hate crime legislation. This has been a heated debate for
centuries. The key to solving the ever growing problem of hate crimes is more hate crime legislation.
Crimes The news of Columbine was all over the TV, newspapers, and in every social aspect of life.
This left parents no choice but to discuss the incident with their children. After Columbine, there
seemed to be more and more reports of school violence, more shooting, bombings, and knives being
brought to school. A school is defined as an institution for teaching and learning . However, today s
educational institutions include punishment, violence, and misbehavior. When we find ourselves glued
to the television because of another school

What Makes A Wearable Health Technology Product That Our...
Being part of the extremely competitive and constantly evolving textiles, apparel luxury goods
industry requires us to constantly strive to be innovative. We must frequently analyze the market, its
trends, and all relevant information that can inform us of opportunities and threats that apply to our
industry (Textiles, Apparel Luxury Goods). This is especially important for us now as we have lost the
trust of many of our customers and our financial health is currently ranked as negative by several
reviewers such as the S P Capital IQ Quantitative Stock Report. Lululemon s previous leaders decision
to compromise quality and the numerous public disagreements surrounding how the company should
be run have led to confusion among our stakeholders and consumers. Recent management changes
have caused a further loss of trust amongst our customers. It is imperative that we better our financial
health and improve our customers perception of our company within the next year. To help achieve
both these objectives, our next big move should be to introduce a wearable health technology product
that our consumers can use to monitor their health and track improvements in their fitness. Two
factors are central to this proposal: (1) we understand that the climate of our market and industry is
extremely competitive and it is vitally important for us to stand out by introducing an innovative and
highly desirable product and (2) there currently is a significant trend surrounding the use

Most Companies Today Have Changed Their Marketing Techniques.
Most companies today have changed their marketing techniques. Instead of focusing on all potential
buyers out in the market, which is called mass marketing, they began to implement the use of target
marketing, which is where companies focus on specific group of consumers that have the highest
potential for the company to make a profit. In target marketing, there are four steps that the company
must undertake, to design a consumer driven marketing technique. The first two steps involve the
company the selecting potential consumers to target on. The first step is called market segmentation,
and the second step is called market targeting. The last two steps involve the company deciding on

Who Is Creon A Tragic Hero
Tragic Heroism in Antigone In Greek Literature, there are three types of genres in stories. Those
genres would be classified as Romantic, Comedy or Drama. In class, we read Antigone, which would
be classified as a Drama because at the end she dies tragically due to her fate. Otherwise known as a
tragic hero. One real life example of one would be Martin Luther King Jr, his point of existence to be
a strong leader during the Civil Rights Era (1954 1968). Growing in power through speeches, he beat
the system and got what he aimed for, but sadly died because of James Earl Ray. In Antigone,
Sophocles shows that Creon is a tragic hero through the use of Indirect Characterization, Foil and
Hamartia.
Lines 185 through 240 (Page 326 327), Creon becomes King and says his acceptance speech.
Describing what he will be doing or changing in office in a very pridely manner. A good leader will
need that charistic in order to become successful. In his speech he tells everyone his goals, telling
them what he wants done. Using indirect characterization, a reader can easily conclude that King
Creon is a good leader and will bring prosperity in the future and that he is very proud of his stance of
his class. Sadly, his pride is one of his downfalls, dragging him down. ... Show more content on

In Antigone, King Creon s foil would be Antigone, which is the protagonist. King Creon s personality
can be described as selfish, caring only about his pride. He is also described as being very stubborn.
The Third Ode is when Haemon, his blood born son tries to lessen the coincidence to his fiance, but
King Creon does not listen, he even deeply regrets having his son and is extremely disappointed.
Antigone s personality is the complete opposite, being brave, determined, strong willed, independent
and very loyal to her family, to the great Gods above

The Influence Of The Crusades
Christians and Muslims fought in a series of wars for nearly 200 years to gain control of the Holy
Land, Jerusalem. Christians wanted the Holy Land because that was where Jesus, who they believe
was the Savior of the world and the Son of God once lived. The Muslims also wanted the Holy Land
because that was where they believe that Muhammad, the founder of the religion of Islam met with
previous prophets and led them in prayer. Jerusalem is known as the land of many prophets and is
perhaps the only city in the world that is considered historically and spiritually significant to Jews,
Christians, and Muslims alike. Under these circumstances, most people argue that the Crusades were
caused primarily of religious devotion. Whereas, others argue

A Study On Renal Cancer
Adrianna Dunn
Professor Riggs
English Composition 1
Due: 11 December 2014
Renal Cancer It is the one word that can send chills and tremors up anyone s back, because in one
word alone everything can change. Cancer, a word that in itself holds so many questions, thoughts,
fears, and worries. There are over 100 different types of cancer; however all cancers begin because
abnormal cells grow out of control. Normal cells follow a pattern: they grow, divide, and die. Cancer
cells grow differently than normal cells. Instead of dying, the cells reproduce more abnormal cells.
Cancer cells are also very distinct in the fact that they can grow into other tissues, normal cells cannot
do this. The deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) is in every cell, it is what directs all the cell s actions. In
normal cells, when DNA gets destroyed the cell either dies or repairs itself; in cancer cells, however,
the cell goes on making new cells that the body has no use for. The new cells now have the same
abnormal DNA as the first cell. If cancer cells penetrate the blood stream or lymph vessels they can
easily spread and attack other areas of the body. Today, hundreds of thousands of people are fighting
or have fought cancer. Over one half of all men and one third of all women will develop cancer during
their lifetime. It is safe to say that almost every person has been affected by cancer in some way,
shape, or form. Cancer in itself is the modern day epidemic much like the black plaque was during its
era.

Goals Of Higher Education
The general public of the United States believes greatly in the higher education system. For many
graduating high school students, the goal is to become enrolled and graduate from college. In order to
determine whether the education system works, one must determine if students who attend college
gain from entering, but more so from leaving college. The American higher education system
functions very well and accomplishes its goal. But throughout the country there are many goals that
the system of higher education sets for itself, as well as set by the general public.
Colleges have very many goals that they have set out to accomplish. The United States hopes to have
more people attend universities, to increase diversity within higher education, and to make college
affordable. In the United States the population with a college degree has increased throughout the
years as a goal of the United States to have a more educated population of more diverse backgrounds.
While the cost does not deter individuals from enrolling in institutions of higher education a large
portion of the population would not be able to afford college without the help form financial
assistance. It is important to note that a portion of the groups that are included in higher education
consist of distance education, and two year colleges, private, public, and for profit
In creating the tier system of higher education universities are able to give options to students in order
to better prepare students for a

The Pros And Cons Of Wildlife Management
Wildlife management is one of the many branches within Natural Resource Management. This branch
specifically dedicates its time and resources to doing exactly what it sounds like managing wildlife
and the habitat they live in. However, they do this through not directly manipulating the organisms
and habitats, but through the regulations of humans and their activities. It is easier to help animals by
controlling human activity than it is to control the animal s activity. That is why the true focus of
wildlife management lies in managing people, not the animals.
There are numerous ways that humans affect wildlife, both in positive and negative ways. Humans act
as a predator to populations where natural predators have a small population or have been extirpated
from an area. They can remove aggressive or sick animals from a population. Some of the more
negative impacts of humans can be over harvesting a population to the point of an endangered status
or driving them to extinction. When settlers began to expand westward, many saw economic
opportunity. Whether it was trapping beavers for their fur, killing bison for hides, or trapping
songbirds for their feathers, people were tearing populations apart just to make money. It seemed as if
America was plentiful and had an infinite amount of resources. However, that was not the case. Due to
people s carelessness, many species that once roamed the land and skies are now extinct. Back then,
there were no hunting regulations for humans and no legal protection for the animals. One such
animals that has suffered from this was the Carolina parakeet (Conuropsis carolinensis). This species
was a beautiful yellow and orange headed, green bodied parakeet that inhabited the Eastern United
States. It was hunted for a number of things, including destroying farmers crops and having a high
demand in the feather trade due to their vibrant colors. Both of these factors in combination with the
destruction of the bird s habitat led to their population decline and extinction in the 1920 s. (Cornell
Lab of Ornithology).
A great majority of the extinctions that have occurred throughout history can have the causes traced
back to human activity. People realized that extensive and

Kant And Analytic Propositions
In Philosophy Analytic synthetic distinction is a conceptual distinction of statements or propositions.
A statement or proposition is a content of a sentence that accepts or denies something. There are two
types of propositions introduced by Kant one is analytic proposition and other is synthetic proposition.
Analytic propositions are true by definition and the predicate concept is present in the subject.
Synthetic propositions are true by experience and the predicate concept is not present in the subject.
Examples of analytic propositions:
1. Bachelors are unmarried men
In the above proposition the predicate that is unmarried men is present in the definition of Bachelors
2. Square have four equal sides
In the above proposition having four ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Acoording to Carnap analytic statement is true is it is only logically true and self contradictory if
logically false. Otherwise any statement is synthetic. He introduced two notions: L true and L false. If
L true is considered if the statement s truth is depends on semantic rule. L false is considered if the
statements negation is L true. Analytic statement is L determined that is the statement can be either L
true or L false. Synthetic statement is if the statement is not L determined that is the statement is
neither L true nor L false.
Quine in the paper the two dogmas of empiricism denied the distinction of analytic and synthetic and
argued that there are no analytic truths. Quine has given two classes of statements.
1. No unmarried man is married
The above sentence is true by interpretation of man and married and if logical particles no , un and is
have meaning in ordinary English.
2. No bachelor is married
The above sentence can be turned in to logical truth by putting synonym for synonyms. The second
sentence can be changed to first sentence by exchanging synonym (bachelor) with synonym
(unmarried man). To say this sentence is analytic we have to find whether man is synonymous with
rational animal by empirically and this is very difficult to test empirically by linguistic usage. So, this
second class of sentence has lack of characterisation according

Getting to Yes: Negotiating Agreement Without Giving In Roger Fisher and William Ury
________________________________________ Roger Fisher and William Ury, Getting to Yes:
Negotiating Agreement Without Giving In, (New York: Penguin Books, 1983). In this classic text,
Fisher and Ury describe their four principles for effective negotiation. They also describe three
common obstacles to negotiation and discuss ways to overcome those obstacles. Fisher and Ury
explain that a good agreement is one which is wise and efficient, and which improves the parties
relationship. Wise agreements satisfy the parties interests and are fair and lasting. The authors goal is
to develop a method for reaching good agreements. Negotiations often take the ... Show more content

Negotiators may not be speaking to each other, but may simply be grandstanding for their respective
constituencies. The parties may not be listening to each other, but may instead be planning their own
responses. Even when the parties are speaking to each other and are listening, misunderstandings may
occur. To combat these problems, the parties should employ active listening. The listeners should give
the speaker their full attention, occasionally summarizing the speaker s points to confirm their
understanding. It is important to remember that understanding the other s case does not mean agreeing
with it. Speakers should direct their speech toward the other parties and keep focused on what they are
trying to communicate. Each side should avoid blaming or attacking the other, and should speak about
themselves. Generally the best way to deal with people problems is to prevent them from arising.
People problems are less likely to come up if the parties have a good relationship, and think of each
other as partners in negotiation rather than as adversaries. Focus on Interests Good agreements focus
on the parties interests, rather than their positions. As Fisher and Ury explain, Your position is
something you have decided upon. Your interests are what caused you to so decide. [p. 42] Defining a
problem in terms of positions means that at least one party will lose the dispute. When a problem is

The Role Of Realism In The Yellow Wallpaper
The literary movement of the first story The Yellow Wallpaper is realism because of the events of the
story itself. The story s plot is about a woman who s mental health goes bad postpartum. After a while,
she goes insane and kills herself because she sees figures in the wallpaper. Realism titles were often
about the average person and their troubles and successes. The story is about an average woman who

about the problems of the poor and average person. The literary movement of the second story The

The Glorious Revolution Essay
The Glorious Revolution Some say the glorious revolution was one of the greatest landmarks in the
history of England. The glorious revolution is a very important event in history for multiple reasons. It
wasn t exactly a peaceful occasion but it was one in which no war of fight occurred. This was a
pleasant change for England at the time because they had been experiencing plenty of fights over the
throne and for once it was a relatively smooth transaction. After Charles the second died his brother,
James the second gained the throne in 1685. His main objective was to re establish the Roman
Catholic religion in England. The people of England were mostly of a Protestant religion and they did
not want to change their ways. Oddly enough ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He practiced absolute monarchy and the people of England strongly disliked him. As things continued
to heated up between parliament and Mary s father James II, she married the Dutch Protestant prince,
William of Orange. William desperately feared an alliance between James II and the Catholic French
King. William and Mary were prepared to lead armed forces into England and take over the throne.
When James II second wife gave birth to a son who would be raised Catholic and be the heir to the
throne, Parliament got worried. Seven members of parliament signed a letter asking Mary and William
to bring an army and drive out James II. William arrived at Torbay, on November 5th 1688 ready to
fight for the throne. He was a brave man, for James II s army was double the size of William s army.
Although it didn t matter because James II s army was deserting to the other side, James II army had
abandoned him. When William of Orange was welcomed into London, James II fled to France in
disguise. Parliament claimed that by abandoning his country, the king had abdicated and the throne
was now left vacant. On February 6th 1689 Mary and William became King and Queen of England.
Perhaps the most revolutionary part of the Glorious Revolution was that the throne had been taken
over without a shot fired. But what this truly meant was the ending of absolute monarchy in England.
Now rulers had to abide by the laws of their country as well as its people.

Positive And Negative Attributes In Lord Of The Flies
Positive attributes can propel people to success, however, when one s negative attribute is prominent it
can lead to the start of their downfall. In the novel The Lord of the Flies, written by William Golding,
there are many characters with strong personalities. While being trapped on an island the situations
may not always go as planned. A leader is needed to keep things in line but as one knows Jack and
Ralph fought head to head for power. From the novel it is clear that Ralph is a natural leader, uses
common sense, and is charismatic, Jack on the other hand wanted power, didn t always use his
common sense, and is also charismatic. Those are examples of a few of Ralph and Jack s positive and
negative attributes.
Throughout the novel both characters, Ralph and Jack have a thirst for power. One may say that Jack
is a stronger leader due to his persuasiveness with his need for power, but on the other hand Ralph is a
great natural leader. From the beginning Ralph shows interest in getting home while leading the group
of boys. Ralph may be young but he seems to have a general idea on how to get the group going in the
right direction. He has an innate ability to split the group up and give them the important tasks that
need to be done to survive for several days for example: tending to the fire, and hunting which was
Jack and the choirboys job. To be a good leader you must stay positive which Ralph is able to do

There is no set level that all children must follow; they learn when they explore by themselves. This
method leaves children with freedom where they can learn self discipline in a place designed
specifically for their developmental needs. Teachers would have a part in the education of children
though even though 80% of it was up to the children. Teachers are to make sure that children are
presented with the right extent of material at the right time. In other words, if a child is too advanced
for one activity, a teacher would present a new one to fit them, and vice versa. Maria believed if her

Griswold Vs Connecticut Case Study
Griswold v Connecticut The director of Planned Parenthood League of Connecticut, Estelle Griswold,
and Dr. C. Lee Buxton were accused and found guilty of providing illicit contraception under a

Supreme Court of Errors of Connecticut, stating that the law was unconstitutional because it violated
the 14th Amendment of the Constitution. The Connecticut court endorsed the conviction, so they
appealed to the U.S. Supreme Court, and the Supreme Court revised the case in 1965.

Atticus Day Of Atonement
Leviticus 16 is read and interpreted as the Day of Atonement or Yom Kippur. The biblically stated
purpose of Yom Kippur, which is significantly different to the Rabbinic purpose, is to purify the
Mishkan (Tabernacle) and to purify the high priests, priests, and the people of Israel. The concepts of
holy clean and unclean are intrinsic to understanding Leviticus. Since God is holy, then anything that
comes in close contact of God must also be holy. The Mishkan, its contents, the High Priests, Priests
and the sacrificial animals all must be holy. When Aaron enters the Mishkan on the first Day of
Atonement, various rituals have to take place as he can only enter after following the prescribed set of
ritual procedures. Everything that will be taken to the Mishkan that day, including himself, need to be
holy and free from impurities. First, Aaron is instructed to wear white linen clothing, which is not the
usual uniform of a high priest. The usual uniform is much more extravagant, but because Aaron is
entering on the Day of Atonement, he must wear simple clothes to symbolize his lowly status in
comparison to God. Next, Aaron is instructed to bathe. This ritual is intended to be interpreted
symbolically, as bathing is not for hygienic purposes in this instance but rather he is to immerse
himself in water to remove impurities. Water is necessary because after bathing in it, it allows you to
get into the Mishkan. Next it is important to note that Aaron is instructed to have a

Abstract Nowadays medical data has been search by people for gathering the more and more
information about drugs. The dialog discussions on chronic diseases and drug, as well as online audits
and sites are getting to be more important assets for patients. Patients read online reviews, blogs and
discussion forum ideas to get information from other patients with similar condition. Reviews of
medication from patients are largely available on the internet. Partitioning data from these significant
collections of writings is helpful in testing. Extracting these huge medical data is challenging. In this

Confessions of an Economic Hitman
Confessions of an Economic Hit man
John Perkins
The reasons as to why I selected this book was heavily weighted on my personal interests. The fact
that I am interested in matters of economics, imperialism, capitalism and deception and corruption on
a government level, made reviewing Confessions of an economic hit man an enjoyable experience.
For them, this is a war about the survival of their children and cultures, while for us it is about power,
money and natural resources. It is one part of the struggle for world domination and the dream of a
few greedy men, global empire. (prologue)

Mafia bosses often start out as street thugs. But over time, the ones who make it to the top transform
their appearance. They take to wearing impeccably tailored suits and owning legitimate businesses.
They are quick to lend money to those in desperate straits They appear to be model citizens. However
beneath this patina is a trail of blood (page 139)
Using the mafia analogy it is clear to diagnose what is wrong with the strategic decisions that have
been made in the past and are still being made now in regards to, how governments and EHMs leave
behind trails of blood just as Mafia bosses can in order to carry out their business. But the model
citizens who are in disguise such as EHMs are seen in a completely different light in that to crime
lords.
Many strategies have been devised by empires over centuries, these strategies and decisions have
helped shape the world as it is in its present state. The author explains how strategic decisions made in
the past were the wrong decisions in his opinion, as John Perkins had seen first hand the devastation
that could be caused by the American government in its pursuit for a global empire .
An example of this is how in the 1960 s, a key strategy was being implemented by the world
governments. This was the switch from neoclassical economics to Keynesian economics. In America

Non Hodgkin s lymphoma are cancers that do not originate in white blood cells but rather elsewhere
in the lymphatic system such as a lymph node, bone marrow, spleen, or thymus and are categorized
into which cells it effects such as B cell, T cell and NK cells (MD Cancer Center, 2015). B cell
lymphoma represents the majority of non Hodgkin Lymphoma (85%) and of these Mantle Cell
Lymphoma (MCL) represents about 5% of the type of B cell lymphoma (American Cancer Society,
2015). According to the American Cancer Society, MCL is rare, common in men in their later years

A Discourse Community Have you ever been among people who are very much like you? That it does

a discourse community because of an agreed set of common public goals, level of membership, and

Talent Management
Critically evaluate the development issues that arise for managing talent. Evaluate the appropriateness
of different development interventions for talented employees.
Introduction:
Talent management is defined as the strategies and practices needed to identify, develop, attract and
retain skilled workers of value to an organisation. (Rands 2009). It can be described as a holistic
approach to the strategic management of the organisation s employees. Organisations need to view
their people as investments which add value to the company and not as costs which take from the
bottom line. Having a talent management system in the organisation is crucial to growing the value of

They have greater opportunites to achieve to reach their own career and life goals.
Employees are more engaged and feel greater job satisfaction.
They understand the value of their contribution to the organisation s goals.
They have more favourable views of the management team and develop a great sense of pride in
where they work.
They believe that their work performance is evaluated fairly and they experience strong feelings of
personal achievement.
Development Issues:
There are a number of development issues associated with talent management. At the top end of an
organisation, the ability to make strategic decisions, react quickly to situations of ambiguity and keep
the company focused during periods of intense pressure and change, is seen as crucial. At a time when
the need for talented leaders and management is increasing rapidly, big companies are finding it
increasingly difficult to attract the right kind of people. Even if the best talent can be recruited,
retaining them is proving to be an even more difficult challenge again. Holding on to their top talent
requires more than just financial incentives. Despite record bonuses, the Financial Times reported in
June 2006 that 17% of City workers

The new contractors were very experienced at working with concrete, but lacked the knowledge and
experience with working with steel. Because of this, John Holland only took on the work on the basis
of a labour management contract, which puts them in charge of the labour, but all the engineering
decisions were still up to World Service Constructions. This lead to confusion and lack of
communication between the parties working on the construction of the bridge. Four months prior to
the collapse, a similar design of bridge, also designed by Freeman Fox Partners, collapsed in Milford

that they had ten, eight tonne concrete blocks on site. These were placed halfway along the higher

The Fire that Changed America
The Cold War was a new conflict that began to rise after the horrific and globally destructive World
War II in the mid 20th century between two powerful countries, the democratic United States of
America and the communist government of the Soviet Union. Both countries highlighted its
superiority through a thriving threat of nuclear weapons and wide ranging espionage and counter
espionage between the two countries. In the 1950 s, space became the platform for the competition of
supremacy to validate each country s dominance in innovative technology, military firepower, and
political economic system. Space was seen by David Beers, in the book Blue Sky Dream: A memoir of
America s Fall from Grace, as the next frontier which was a logical extension of the grand American
tradition of exploration. The rise of the aerospace industry became the icon of national reputation and
a dream for the blue sky tribe, who benefitted from the space race, which then later on led to
disappointment and betrayal in the 1990s.
The space race begun in 1957 with the launch of Sputnik by the Soviet Union. In addition, the United
States aerospace innovation was considerably prompted by the government s steady upward ratcheting
of requirements for the acceleration, efficiency, and performance based on speedily evolving project
requirements. Fifteen thousand workers had arrived on the outskirts on (the city of) Sacramento
(pg.55) in California due to the rising aerospace industry. David Beers

Macbeths tomarrow, Tomarrow Speech Vs. Robert Frosts out, Out
An unknown author once wrote Never take life too seriously; after all, no one gets out of it alive .
When reading this quote, there can almost be an immediate connection between two very good works
of writing: Macbeth s Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow speech from Shakespeare s tragedy,
Macbeth, and the poem Out, Out by Robert Frost. Both allude to the idea that a single life, in its
totality, denotes nothing, and eventually, everyone s candle of life is blown out. However, each poet
approaches this idea from opposite perspectives. Frost writes of a young, innocent boy whose life ends
suddenly and unexpectedly. His poem is dry and lacks emotion from anyone ... Show more content on

Frost, on the other hand, wipes out his character and leaves us with the feeling as that death will
silence the memories of all who knew the child.
With the major differences in these works of writing, there are also many similarities among the two.
Both Shakespeare and Frost are trying to say death is inevitable. It takes place at different times and
under different circumstances for everyone, but none the less, it cannot be avoided. Everyone also
deals with death in their own way. Macbeth almost discards the news of his wife s death, as he talks
about life itself and how he feels about it. The people in Frost s poem are also unfazed about the death
of the boy. Another similarity is that in both poems, the people move forward with their lives. This is a
reflection of human nature; most of us don t grieve forever, but eventually find a point where we re
able to accept the death a loved one.
Robert Frost and William Shakespeare have been celebrated by many people because of their ability to
express themselves through the written word. Here we are years after their deaths analyzing these
fascinating poems about life and death. It s clear they had similar thoughts about this subject at the
time of these writings, even though their characters could not have been more opposite. For both
poets, life is too

Despite incredible improvements in health since 1950, there are still a big number of challenges as

One billion people lack access to health care systems.
36 million deaths each year are caused by noncommunicable diseases, such as cardiovascular disease,

Even within a country such as the UK, then, the report finds that the average life span can differ by
some 28 years, depending on whether you are in the poorer or wealthier strata of society.
In rich countries, low socioeconomic position means poor education, unemployment and job
insecurity, poor working conditions, and unsafe neighbourhoods, with their consequent impact on
family life.
Most health problems are due to social, political and economic factors. The key determinants of health
of populations are the circumstances in which people are born, grow, live, work and age. And those
circumstances are affected by the social and economic environment.
Health is inextricably linked to economic issues. Without work, health cannot be afforded. Without
good health, work cannot be done.
Furthermore, some diseases are now not only the result of poverty, but have been contributing to
poverty.
Malaria has significant direct and indirect costs, and has recently been shown to be a major constraint
to economic development. Annual economic growth in countries with high malaria transmission has
historically been lower than in countries without malaria.
The risk of contracting malaria in endemic areas can deter investment, both internal and external and
affect individual and household decision making in many ways that have a negative impact on
economic productivity and growth.

Watson and Rayner s Unconditional Stimulus Experiment on...
Watson and Rayner set out to substantiate his theory by recruiting a subject, who basically stayed in a
hospital attached John Hopkins University, and the conducting an experiment on the chosen infant.
Their aim was to classically condition the infant to fear a white laboratory rat. The infant, Albert B. or
Little Albert , was a physically healthy and emotionally stable 9 month old boy (Watson Rayner, 1920,
p. 1). He was described as a very relaxed baby who hardly ever cried. In the emotional tests, before
conditioning, Albert was exposed to a series of objects, which included fire, cotton wool, a monkey, a
dog, a white rabbit, a mask with hair, and a white laboratory rat. He had not shown a scared or nervous
response toward these neutral stimuli, and particularly adored the white laboratory rat. (chaopret 7, p.
239).
Firstly, the researchers attempted to identify an unconditioned stimulus. They carried this out by
making a loud noise, hitting a hammer against a steel bar, and observing whether the infant responds
in fear (learning+c, p.74). In this case, Albert started to cry, which suggested that he was afraid. This
gave them the method of testing several important aspects of the experiment.
The actual practise of conditioning only started when Albert was 11 months old. The first step Watson
and Raymer took towards conditioning Little Albert, was paring the loud noise, unconditioned
stimulus, with the white rat, conditioned stimulus. The responses were fear of the

Study Skills Process Analysis
In class we have learned skills on how to be an active note taker and studier. I have learned in the past
ways to do both; however, the ideas presented were very good ways for some people. Throughout this
essay, I will discuss how to study effectively as well as how to take notes effectively. I will also what
changes I have made to my routine for both. Note taking is an incredibly valuable skill, because with
taking notes, you have nothing to reference when you are studying. One good way to take notes is by
writing down keywords and follow them with brief descriptions. This strategy works well because you
do not get lost in a mess of information when studying. Another strategy is drawing a picture of what
it makes you think of, so that when you see the picture it will have the info attached to it. ... Show

My personal favorite is to use flash cards. Flashcards are just a form of word association, when you

example, if you say dessert, I think of Apple Pie, then ice cream. Studying with word association
works the same way, so if I say President, I think of the current president and the powers of the
president. Another way to study effectively is to reward yourself for learning a set of information. For
example, when I finish a chapter of note taking and I know the chapter, I watch an episode of Parks

way allows studying to become less of a

The Factors And Roles Of The Stanford Prison Experiment
Not everything goes according to plan. At Stanford University, an experiment was conducted by a
psychology professor, infamously known as the Stanford prison experiment. The research was based
and held in a prison setting with 24 recruited individuals who were then appointed as either inmates or
guards, the operation was planned for two weeks as well as rules that were meant to be followed.
What would be the fundamental purpose of experimenting with this, why did the head researcher want
to conduct this experiment, how did the use affect the outcome? Why would someone run an
experiment like this? The purpose was to understand the development of norms and the effects of
roles, labels, and social expectations in a simulated prison environment (Zimbardo, 1971). With the
exercise, the researchers were able to investigate how realistic the 24 individuals fit into their roles.
With the participants playing into their roles it would hopefully demonstrate a specific analysis of the
situation, as well as the difficulties and hardships between guards and prisoners within United States
Navy and the United States Marine Corps (Zimbardo,1971). With the funding of the experiment
coming from the U.S. Office of Naval Research, the participants were paid $15 per day. The money
compensation gave the individuals a reason to take this experiment seriously because back at that time
$15 would approximately be $90 in 2017. (Banks,1973). Although the experiment had multiple

The As A Vegetarian Based Or Vegan Diet ( Watters )
Vegetarianism has existed for many centuries, but perhaps the most well known vegetarian was
Pythagoras. Pythagoras was a philosopher whom educated much of the world on his ideas in life, one
at the time being the abstinence of meat. Pythagoras, along with many of his followers, believed that
the consumption of meat could affect the longevity of one s life. Though not everyone believed in
Pythagoras opinions, he still had a loyal group of followers. Pythagoras was so widely associated with
a meat free diet that the terms vegetarian was not even in use until 1847, when the term pythagorean
was changed to vegetarian (Avey). Today, there are 16 million people in America who follow a
vegetarian based or vegan diet (Watters). There is a common misconception that the choice to become
a vegetarian is based only on a person s love for animals, but there are many other benefits to being a
vegetarian. Pythagoras and his followers gave many of the same arguments that people who abstain
from meat today support; for example, Pythagoras had the belief that there was a majority of added
health benefits from a meatless diet (Avey). Vegetarianism can decrease the risk of cancer along with
other health concerns, can solve problems the world presently faces, such as world hunger and animal
cruelty and can have positive effects on the environment such as pollution reduction and overgrazing
reduction. People need to adopt a vegetarian lifestyle because it will improve public

else. Simply a name can describe an individual s identity. Names do not only tell a person s story, they
also shape an identity and are impactful and important. The first impressions an individual makes
about someone else are often based upon his or her name. When a person hears a familiar or common
name, a positive image often comes to mind. Meanwhile, individuals with unique and different names

Assumptions are based solely on a name and this first impression can be negative. Those with unusual
names are viewed differently and negatively compared to others. Being viewed negatively impacts
personality and generates insecurities. Research has found that, a name that is perceived as too
different may actually have an adverse effect on your child later in life (Willets). Essentially, it is
sought to be harder for those with complex names to receive jobs. This is because unique names could
put a halt to their career and life. A study found that a resume submitted under a perceived African
American name received less attention from employers than the identical resume bearing a more
Caucasian name (Goudreau). These assumptions are cultivated because people feel that they do not
share a connection with someone who an uncommon name, thus, they immediately draw negative
conclusions about the person through their name. While those assumptions are often wrong, they can
have a considerable influence on one s life and identity. The self esteem of an individual with a less
desirable name also contributes to their identity. When people are judged by their name, their self

The State Of The Keystone Xl Pipeline
Controversy is no stranger in the United States of America. Daily numerous new controversies are
generated in politics, news media and in our personal lives at home. Recently in the past few years, the
news media has been vastly covering an ongoing political debate about the construction and proposed
expansion of a pipe system to transport crude oil from the Alberta province in Canada to the Gulf
Coast region of Texas by the TransCanada Company. The pipeline infrastructure in place known as the
Keystone Pipeline would now feature a larger section, which would be known as the Keystone XL.
Many arguments to be analyzed involving economics, environmental and safety have been generated
for and against this proposed Keystone XL construction. When analyzing the impacts of the building
of the Keystone XL pipeline it can be seen it will impact our means of energy supplies. One way the
United States would be helped is the Keystone XL pipeline would give the United States an increase
in energy security. Or in other words, it would help stabilize the oil supply in the United States.
According to the United States Energy Information Administration, In 2013, the United States

  • 2. Indigenous Religions There are many religions in the world. From Indigenous Faiths, Hinduism, Buddhism, Daoism, Confucianism, Shinto, Judaism, Christianity, Islam, and Sikhism, they are all unique in their own way and they each give something to their followers that they need and are seeking. While all of these religions seem to have the same end goal they are different in many ways as well. Take Christianity and Islam. Christianity is a faith that follows the teachings of Jesus Christ. He is considered the Son of God that cam down from heaven in human form to then sacrifice His life for the sins of mankind. He did this so that mankind can reconcile with God. Muhammad founded Islam. He acknowledged a revelation from God, which he then called all people to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Elijah Muhammad s birth name is Elijah Poole. He was born October 7, 1897 in Sandersville, Georgia. His parents, Wallace and Mariah Poole were Baptist sharecroppers. His father was a Christian minister. Elijah dropped out of school to help his family. He did receive a basic remedial education up until that time. Living in the south during his childhood he had to deal with the racially segregated South. After meeting Wallace Fard the founder of the Nation of Islam he became a member in 1931, changed his last name from Poole to Muhammad. He became an early disciple of W.D. Fard and shortly after Fard named Elijah Chief Minister of Islam. While many think so, Elijah Muhammad did not create the Nation of Islam. He did though change the theology of the movement. Elijah proclaimed Fard to be an incarnation of Allah (God). Elijah was then made Fard s divinely appointed prophet. Elijah built his ideas on a few principles such as: Islam is the only true religion, knowing ones self is vital, doing for ones self is necessary, the black man is supreme and the white man is the ... However, he does not have legal status in America and was recently arrested for shoplifting merchandise, which was valued over $1,000. The court can either choose to do a preliminary hearing or grand jury for John s first appearance.. In a preliminary hearing is conducted with no jury and the judge is the fact finder. A grand jury hearing is where the prosecution presents the case to a group of citizens outside the presence of the defendant and they (the grand jurors) are asked to determine whether probable cause exists based on the evidence presented to them by the prosecution. • 4. Theories and Theory Combination Theory is brought to bear to illumine and improve practice. However, a single theory is incomplete and partial. Therefore, practitioners need to employ various theories in combination without paying the full prices of their incompleteness and partially (Schwab, 1969/ 1978, p.297). Theory is an idea which used to clarify and justify phenomenon. It is also used to advocate truth of certain practices and procedures. Nevertheless improvement and enhancement cannot be implemented with a single theory. There are few weaknesses of single theory; firstly the edifice of a theory is not sufficed or inadequate to address teaching and learning problems. Each theory can only be applied to certain circumstances. For instance, how to teach mathematic if the students are unable to understand? One theory is unable to address because each theory have different kind of solution. Secondly although some theories are borrowed in a chosen subject matter which is appropriate yet are questionable because some are doctrinaire because of the personalities and others. Being part of the extremely competitive and constantly evolving textiles, apparel luxury goods industry requires us to constantly strive to be innovative. We must frequently analyze the market, its trends, and all relevant information that can inform us of opportunities and threats that apply to our industry (Textiles, Apparel Luxury Goods). This is especially important for us now as we have lost the trust of many of our customers and our financial health is currently ranked as negative by several reviewers such as the S P Capital IQ Quantitative Stock Report. Lululemon s previous leaders decision to compromise quality and the numerous public disagreements surrounding how the company should be run have led to confusion among our stakeholders and consumers. Recent management changes have caused a further loss of trust amongst our customers. It is imperative that we better our financial health and improve our customers perception of our company within the next year. To help achieve both these objectives, our next big move should be to introduce a wearable health technology product that our consumers can use to monitor their health and track improvements in their fitness. Two factors are central to this proposal: (1) we understand that the climate of our market and industry is extremely competitive and it is vitally important for us to stand out by introducing an innovative and highly desirable product and (2) there currently is a significant trend surrounding the use ... In class, we read Antigone, which would be classified as a Drama because at the end she dies tragically due to her fate. Otherwise known as a tragic hero. One real life example of one would be Martin Luther King Jr, his point of existence to be a strong leader during the Civil Rights Era (1954 1968). Growing in power through speeches, he beat the system and got what he aimed for, but sadly died because of James Earl Ray. In Antigone, Sophocles shows that Creon is a tragic hero through the use of Indirect Characterization, Foil and Hamartia. Lines 185 through 240 (Page 326 327), Creon becomes King and says his acceptance speech. Describing what he will be doing or changing in office in a very pridely manner. • 11. A Study On Renal Cancer Adrianna Dunn Professor Riggs English Composition 1 Due: 11 December 2014 Renal Cancer It is the one word that can send chills and tremors up anyone s back, because in one word alone everything can change. Cancer, a word that in itself holds so many questions, thoughts, fears, and worries. There are over 100 different types of cancer; however all cancers begin because abnormal cells grow out of control. Normal cells follow a pattern: they grow, divide, and die. Cancer cells grow differently than normal cells. Instead of dying, the cells reproduce more abnormal cells. Cancer cells are also very distinct in the fact that they can grow into other tissues, normal cells cannot do this. The deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) is in every cell, it is what directs all the cell s actions. In normal cells, when DNA gets destroyed the cell either dies or repairs itself; in cancer cells, however, the cell goes on making new cells that the body has no use for. The new cells now have the same abnormal DNA as the first cell. If cancer cells penetrate the blood stream or lymph vessels they can easily spread and attack other areas of the body. Today, hundreds of thousands of people are fighting or have fought cancer. Over one half of all men and one third of all women will develop cancer during their lifetime. It is safe to say that almost every person has been affected by cancer in some way, shape, or form. Cancer in itself is the modern day epidemic much like the black plaque was during its era. ... • 13. The Pros And Cons Of Wildlife Management Wildlife management is one of the many branches within Natural Resource Management. This branch specifically dedicates its time and resources to doing exactly what it sounds like managing wildlife and the habitat they live in. However, they do this through not directly manipulating the organisms and habitats, but through the regulations of humans and their activities. It is easier to help animals by controlling human activity than it is to control the animal s activity. That is why the true focus of wildlife management lies in managing people, not the animals. There are numerous ways that humans affect wildlife, both in positive and negative ways. Humans act as a predator to populations where natural predators have a small population or have been extirpated from an area. They can remove aggressive or sick animals from a population. Some of the more negative impacts of humans can be over harvesting a population to the point of an endangered status or driving them to extinction. When settlers began to expand westward, many saw economic opportunity. Whether it was trapping beavers for their fur, killing bison for hides, or trapping songbirds for their feathers, people were tearing populations apart just to make money. It seemed as if America was plentiful and had an infinite amount of resources. However, that was not the case. Due to people s carelessness, many species that once roamed the land and skies are now extinct. Back then, there were no hunting regulations for humans and no legal protection for the animals. One such animals that has suffered from this was the Carolina parakeet (Conuropsis carolinensis). This species was a beautiful yellow and orange headed, green bodied parakeet that inhabited the Eastern United States. It was hunted for a number of things, including destroying farmers crops and having a high demand in the feather trade due to their vibrant colors. Both of these factors in combination with the destruction of the bird s habitat led to their population decline and extinction in the 1920 s. (Cornell Lab of Ornithology). A great majority of the extinctions that have occurred throughout history can have the causes traced back to human activity. People realized that extensive and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Negotiators may not be speaking to each other, but may simply be grandstanding for their respective constituencies. The parties may not be listening to each other, but may instead be planning their own responses. Even when the parties are speaking to each other and are listening, misunderstandings may occur. To combat these problems, the parties should employ active listening. The listeners should give the speaker their full attention, occasionally summarizing the speaker s points to confirm their understanding. It is important to remember that understanding the other s case does not mean agreeing with it. Speakers should direct their speech toward the other parties and keep focused on what they are trying to communicate. Each side should avoid blaming or attacking the other, and should speak about themselves. Generally the best way to deal with people problems is to prevent them from arising. People problems are less likely to come up if the parties have a good relationship, and think of each other as partners in negotiation rather than as adversaries. The biblically stated purpose of Yom Kippur, which is significantly different to the Rabbinic purpose, is to purify the Mishkan (Tabernacle) and to purify the high priests, priests, and the people of Israel. The concepts of holy clean and unclean are intrinsic to understanding Leviticus. Since God is holy, then anything that comes in close contact of God must also be holy. The Mishkan, its contents, the High Priests, Priests and the sacrificial animals all must be holy. The author explains how strategic decisions made in the past were the wrong decisions in his opinion, as John Perkins had seen first hand the devastation that could be caused by the American government in its pursuit for a global empire . An example of this is how in the 1960 s, a key strategy was being implemented by the world governments. This was the switch from neoclassical economics to Keynesian economics. In America this ... Introduction: Talent management is defined as the strategies and practices needed to identify, develop, attract and retain skilled workers of value to an organisation. (Rands 2009). It can be described as a holistic approach to the strategic management of the organisation s employees. Development Issues: There are a number of development issues associated with talent management. At the top end of an organisation, the ability to make strategic decisions, react quickly to situations of ambiguity and keep the company focused during periods of intense pressure and change, is seen as crucial. At a time when the need for talented leaders and management is increasing rapidly, big companies are finding it increasingly difficult to attract the right kind of people. Because of this, John Holland only took on the work on the basis of a labour management contract, which puts them in charge of the labour, but all the engineering decisions were still up to World Service Constructions. This lead to confusion and lack of communication between the parties working on the construction of the bridge. Four months prior to the collapse, a similar design of bridge, also designed by Freeman Fox Partners, collapsed in Milford Haven, Wales, killing four workers. Understandably, there was a lot of industrial unrest on the construction site of the Westgate Bridge, although workers had been assured by Freeman Fox Partners that the design of the Westgate was perfectly safe, but was not supported by any relevant or sufficient calculations. The Fire that Changed America The Cold War was a new conflict that began to rise after the horrific and globally destructive World War II in the mid 20th century between two powerful countries, the democratic United States of America and the communist government of the Soviet Union. Both countries highlighted its superiority through a thriving threat of nuclear weapons and wide ranging espionage and counter espionage between the two countries. In the 1950 s, space became the platform for the competition of supremacy to validate each country s dominance in innovative technology, military firepower, and political economic system. Space was seen by David Beers, in the book Blue Sky Dream: A memoir of America s Fall from Grace, as the next frontier which was a logical extension of the grand American tradition of exploration. The rise of the aerospace industry became the icon of national reputation and a dream for the blue sky tribe, who benefitted from the space race, which then later on led to disappointment and betrayal in the 1990s. Robert Frosts out, Out An unknown author once wrote Never take life too seriously; after all, no one gets out of it alive . When reading this quote, there can almost be an immediate connection between two very good works of writing: Macbeth s Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow speech from Shakespeare s tragedy, Macbeth, and the poem Out, Out by Robert Frost. Both allude to the idea that a single life, in its totality, denotes nothing, and eventually, everyone s candle of life is blown out. However, each poet approaches this idea from opposite perspectives. Frost writes of a young, innocent boy whose life ends suddenly and unexpectedly. His poem is dry and lacks emotion from anyone ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Frost, on the other hand, wipes out his character and leaves us with the feeling as that death will silence the memories of all who knew the child. With the major differences in these works of writing, there are also many similarities among the two. Both Shakespeare and Frost are trying to say death is inevitable. It takes place at different times and under different circumstances for everyone, but none the less, it cannot be avoided. Everyone also deals with death in their own way. Macbeth almost discards the news of his wife s death, as he talks about life itself and how he feels about it. The people in Frost s poem are also unfazed about the death of the boy. Another similarity is that in both poems, the people move forward with their lives. This is a reflection of human nature; most of us don t grieve forever, but eventually find a point where we re able to accept the death a loved one. Robert Frost and William Shakespeare have been celebrated by many people because of their ability to express themselves through the written word. Watson and Rayner set out to substantiate his theory by recruiting a subject, who basically stayed in a hospital attached John Hopkins University, and the conducting an experiment on the chosen infant. Their aim was to classically condition the infant to fear a white laboratory rat. The infant, Albert B. or Little Albert , was a physically healthy and emotionally stable 9 month old boy (Watson Rayner, 1920, p. 1). He was described as a very relaxed baby who hardly ever cried. In the emotional tests, before conditioning, Albert was exposed to a series of objects, which included fire, cotton wool, a monkey, a dog, a white rabbit, a mask with hair, and a white laboratory rat. He had not shown a scared or nervous response toward these neutral stimuli, and particularly adored the white laboratory rat. (chaopret 7, p. 239). Firstly, the researchers attempted to identify an unconditioned stimulus. They carried this out by making a loud noise, hitting a hammer against a steel bar, and observing whether the infant responds in fear (learning+c, p.74). In this case, Albert started to cry, which suggested that he was afraid. This gave them the method of testing several important aspects of the experiment. The actual practise of conditioning only started when Albert was 11 months old. The first step Watson and Raymer took towards conditioning Little Albert, was paring the loud noise, unconditioned stimulus, with the white rat, conditioned stimulus. I have learned in the past ways to do both; however, the ideas presented were very good ways for some people. Throughout this essay, I will discuss how to study effectively as well as how to take notes effectively. I will also what changes I have made to my routine for both. Note taking is an incredibly valuable skill, because with taking notes, you have nothing to reference when you are studying. One good way to take notes is by writing down keywords and follow them with brief descriptions. This strategy works well because you do not get lost in a mess of information when studying. At Stanford University, an experiment was conducted by a psychology professor, infamously known as the Stanford prison experiment. The research was based and held in a prison setting with 24 recruited individuals who were then appointed as either inmates or guards, the operation was planned for two weeks as well as rules that were meant to be followed. What would be the fundamental purpose of experimenting with this, why did the head researcher want to conduct this experiment, how did the use affect the outcome? Why would someone run an experiment like this? The purpose was to understand the development of norms and the effects of roles, labels, and social expectations in a simulated prison environment (Zimbardo, 1971). With the exercise, the researchers were able to investigate how realistic the 24 individuals fit into their roles. With the participants playing into their roles it would hopefully demonstrate a specific analysis of the situation, as well as the difficulties and hardships between guards and prisoners within United States Navy and the United States Marine Corps (Zimbardo,1971). With the funding of the experiment coming from the U.S. Office of Naval Research, the participants were paid $15 per day. Though not everyone believed in Pythagoras opinions, he still had a loyal group of followers. Pythagoras was so widely associated with a meat free diet that the terms vegetarian was not even in use until 1847, when the term pythagorean was changed to vegetarian (Avey). Today, there are 16 million people in America who follow a vegetarian based or vegan diet (Watters). There is a common misconception that the choice to become a vegetarian is based only on a person s love for animals, but there are many other benefits to being a vegetarian. Pythagoras and his followers gave many of the same arguments that people who abstain from meat today support; for example, Pythagoras had the belief that there was a majority of added health benefits from a meatless diet (Avey).
