Jacob Riis Social Reform Movement
As photography was being used more and more as a method of documentation, they were among the
first to use it to push social reform efforts. They closely documented the devastating effects of
industrialization and urbanization on the working class American. Through their work they brought
attention to the need for housing and (child) labor laws. They used their medium to bring real proof to
the public and legislators, where it needed to be seen. Actually, instead of documentary photography, it
may best be called social reform photography, as they both worked tirelessly and used the medium to
force attention and to effect social change.
Riis used photography to illustrate his social reform documentary writing, he was not originally a
photographer, but he saw the drama and sense of proof photographs provided. His photographs were
presumably and represented as unposed and some of his images come across as illustrative and ...

Hines interest in photography led to him starting a camera club at the school where he taught. Taking
his students on day trips to shoot, led them to Ellis Island, here he became interested in the plight of
immigrants, and he was instrumental in changing attitudes towards immigrants. During this period his
social conscience grew simultaneously with his craft. This resulted in being hired by the National
Child Labour Committee in 1908. He took on the job of photographing children in factories and other
work places. A very dangerous job at the time, as aggression from the factory owners was constant. He
photographed laborers, (children, women and adults) in factories, coalmines, canneries, laundries and

The War Rule Of The 1870 s And 1920 S
It all took place between the 1870 s and 1920 s. Home rule was a huge part of the political life in
Ireland, which meant that the Irish Parliament would be restored for most issues, but the British
government would still cover many important areas (Conflict 3). The term Government Association
started to be used very frequently; Isaac Butt was the gentleman who founded this association. In 1873
this became known as the Home Rule League and in 1874 a general election was held where fifty
home rulers were elected to the Home Rule party also known as the Irish Parliamentary Party (Irish
29). Butts goal was to get both Protestants and Catholics to support Home Rule as a movement
targeted towards giving Ireland a federal government within the United Kingdom. Butt was not an
aggressive leader and the people of Ireland did not feel he was fulfilling his job completely. A man by
the name of Charles Stewart Parnell challenged Butt and became the leader in 1880 (Charles17). The
British people began to think that the Home Rule would lead to the separation of Ireland and Britain.
Parnell realized that the people did not like the British Rule and this is what caused them to support
Irish nationalism. In 1880 Parnell won the support of the Fenians and the Irish Republican
brotherhood that wanted total separation but were willing to compromise and accept Home Rule. In
1881 the second Land Act gave the Three F s which the Land League had demanded. Fair rents would

Essay On The Conflict Between China And Russia
The Second Sino Japanese War (formerly addressed as the China Incident ) took place in China from
1937 until 1945. In this war, the Japanese sought out China s abundance of raw materials and land.
The two forces, China and Japan, battled over the control of said materials and most importantly, land.
Before this, China was mainly concerned with the civil war (which was on and off until 1950, years
after the Second Sino Japanese war) between nationalists (Kuomintang party lead by Chiang Kai
Shek) and communists (Communist Party of China lead by Mao Zedong). This war also served as an
introduction to the Pacific end of World War II.
This conflict began on behalf of the Japanese occupying northern China, more specifically,
Manchuria. This occupation began relatively early on, before there was a full blown war. Both Japan
and Russia, as a result of the war between those two powers two decades ago in the early 1900 s,
occupied Manchuria. The Japanese s interest in China seemed to have expanded to be more than just
resources but rather total control of the country. They preyed on weak, dismembered China and feared
China unifying into a solid nation under the guidance of the Kuomintang party. This boiling mix of
tensions and fear lead to what would be known as the Manchurian or Mukden Incident. This incident
describes the fright within the Japanese when an unidentified bomb went off on a Japanese railway in
Mukden. The Imperial Japanese Army guards in charge of the railway took

Analysis Of Nathaniel Hawthorne s Scarlet Fever
Nathaniel Hawthorne Nathaniel Hawthorne was born on July 4, 1804 in Salem Massachusetts. His
father died of yellow fever when he was 4 years old and left behind a wife and 3 children. Hawthorne
was raised by an abnormal and solitary mother. He had a leg injury at a young age, which left him not
being able to move for months (Biography) . His leg injury, on the other hand, did not get in the way
of what he was dreaming of doing growing up. During the time of his leg injury, Hawthorne
developed an interest in reading and writing. He grew up being an enthusiastic reader of poetry and
exotic adventure stories. Hawthorne had to overcome a lot of obstacles growing up to become a writer.
Despite losing a father and having a leg injury at such a young age, Hawthorne became a successful
writer of the American Romantic period. Thanks to his uncles, Hawthorne attended Bowdoin College
in Maine. His uncles paid for his college tuition there. He attended the college when he was 17 years
old and spent 4 years there. At the college, he met and made friends with Franklin Piece and Henry
Wadsworth (Biography) . While he was attending college, Hawthorne missed his family so much and
returned home to Salem after graduation (Biography) . He stayed in Salem for 12 years. He came back
to Salem not only to spend time with his family, but to spend time studying puritan history and
develop his writing skills. During his 12 year stay in Salem, Hawthorne wrote a few books. He wrote a

The Cupbearer
The Enigma of the Cupbearer is a short video in which the narrator introduces viewers to the Cycladic
figurine Cup Bearer. It is a rare figure type, and the only intact seated Cup bearer from Cycladic art.
The figure is thought to be male because it is in action, and females were often shown standing with
their arms crossed over their chests. In the Cup Bearer the male is made of marble, and is sitting on a
stool made from the same piece of marble. He is holding a cup in his right hand, and is poised as
though getting ready to take a drink, make a toast, or offer a libation to the gods. The meaning of this
figurine, and others from this time, is unclear, but it is historically important since it marks an artistic
milestone. According

Social Classes In Hinduism And The Caste System
Hinduism reinforces the caste system, which is a division of society into social classes that are created
by birth or occupation and it is a prevalent social system of Hinduism (Molloy 90). Thus, class and
race are both elements affected by the caste system. There are different castes, or social classes, and
there are also subcastes. Despite the caste being permanent for one s life, it s not to say that those in
lower castes cannot move up to a higher caste. This is where the concept of rebirth comes into
Hinduism, which is the idea that an individual can make certain choices in their lives, good or bad,
and this can affect what caste they will be reborn into. There are five main social classes in Hinduism,
they are as follows: the priest, the warrior noble, the merchant, the peasant, and the untouchable.
Theses classes are known as Brahmins, Kshayriyas, Vaisyas, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The priest performs vedic rituals and acts as a counselor, the warrior noble has the role of protecting
society, and the merchant includes landowners, moneylenders, and sometimes artisans (Molloy 91).
The males within these three upper caste systems are considered twice born. This is where gender
plays a role within the caste system as well. The peasant does manual labor and is expected to serve
the higher castes, while the untouchable is the lowest caste system and is expected to do the lowest
work, such as cleaning toilets, sweeping streets, collecting animal carcasses, and tanning animal hides
(Molloy 91). Thus, it is evident that these two lower caste systems

Bp Gulf Mexico
1. Do you agree or disagree with Tony Hayward s quote at the end of the case? Was this disaster
strictly a BP failure or an industry accident? (One of my biggest mistakes was that I allowed myself to
become the lightning rod for hatred and anger. He went on to say, I genuinely feel that this could have
happened to anyone. This is not BP. It is an industry accident.)
I mostly agree with Tony Hayward because an accident of that size is a result of a complex
combination of mechanical failures, human decisions, problems in engineering design and operational
difficulties.
It is true that the problema could be avoided by a better performance of BP, but on the other hand there
are regulators that allow that company s behavior.

The aim of these actions are increasing profits by reducing costs.
The companies didn t have very strict rules to obey and they were not forced to follow the rules,
consequently, companies could make wrong decisions in terms of safety for people and environment.
Furthermore, U.S. regulators didn t do their job properly when they were exercising the oversight of
activity in the gulf, this fact can be consequence of lobbying pressure from such a powerful industry.
4. In what ways did BP lack the appropriate safety culture? What could it have done to build a
stronger safety culture?
BP had a lack of safety culture in different aspects. The emergency systems and alarms didn t work as
expected, they were using centralizers that didn t used before. Moreover, the results of stability tests
weren t analyzed as they should. The company did shortcuts that didn t allow workers to fulfill all the
tasks during the drilling process.
BP could prove a high level of personal safety, but it was not the same for the general safety.
Moreover, its centralized system implied lack of consistency in the security system.
In order to improve its safety culture, BP should check periodically that all the emergency systems are
working properly and make sure that

Access Mineral Reserves On Private Land For The Purpose Of...
A person cannot enter private land for the purpose of mining, including prospecting or marking out
without a permit to enter . Normally, an operator has the right to access private land for purpose of
preliminary activities, such as marking out land. Notice must be given to the occupiers or owners of
privately held land , but usually consent is not necessary. These rights of access are generally
mitigated by restrictions on private land, such as those near residence or fields ect , in these
circumstances, written consent of the occupier or owner must be acquired. In defined situations, the
Crown can grant the right to access mineral reserves on freehold or leasehold land to third parties.
This excludes land already subject to a mining tenement or in relation to a special prospecting licence
. There are also circumstances where the applicant for a mining tenement must obtain written consent
from the private land owner and the private land owner can veto the application . These circumstances
include land that is: In bona fide and regular use as a stockyard, garden yard, vineyard, orchard plant
nursery or plantation or land under cultivation . Further to this, land under cultivation is defined as
land being used for agricultural purposes and includes land used for the grazing, cropping or pasturing

Question: The problem which are being faced in India and the gender bias in the healthcare sector of
India
India is a developing country and we all know that India is still in a health crisis. Although, India has
been awarded a Polio free status by an official certificate by the World Health Organization (WHO),
we still occupy 2nd position when it comes to population and the 112th position in sex ratio out of 190
countries . With this data we can assess the condition of healthcare in India. The healthcare system is
very bad in our country and for a developing country like India, we require that everyone, at least the
work force and the children who are the future of our country should be healthy, because if we want
India to reach at a stage of a developed country then we need to make sure we have an overall
development. One of my findings was a survey conducted by Dr.C.Chandramouli who is the Registrar
general and the census commissioner of India. His survey was conducted in different states of India
but the information I have taken is from the state, Madhya Pradesh the heart of India. The information
was gathered from each and every district in Madhya Pradesh in form of questioners and in form of
the verbal information which had to be gathered because there are still some villages in India who still

The Conscript Wilfrid Wilson Gibson Analysis
Wilfrid Wilson Gibson was a British Georgian poet and a lot of his work gets associated with World
War 1. The poet s work originally started out as magical story telling; then abandoned that style for a
more honest, realistic style to life. Not life for the upper class, but for the low level workingman. The
switch to talking about the life of the working class made his work more real; his war poems were told
through the view of the common soldier. His switch in his poetry theme was not pleasing to everyone
though. A conscript is compulsory enlistment for state services, specifically armed forces. The
Conscript is about how working class men, the conscripts, are being examined by doctors to see if
they are in the proper conditions to go to war or be sent home. The doctors do not care if the men die
instantly when they go to war. In The Conscript, Wilfrid Wilson Gibson develops the theme of the
predestined death for the common man. The poet does this by ... Show more content on

Macabre is shocking and gruesome, like the description of the conscripts bodies as they wait to be

explaining they are so badly injured they might as well be dead. Darkened brain is how mentally and
physically affected they are and their dreams are dark, the same as nightmares. In the line prior to
these the word hasty is used meaning how quickly the soldiers will go into war and die without even
being cared about. Gibson develops his own personality with the usage of tone, he is the voice of the
ordinary soldier that gets forgotten about during the time of the big war. The men being examined are
being examined for their death and to have nightmares from the war which is what Gibson wants the
reader to understand that these men being forced to fight are being forced into their death.

Sickle Cells Anaemia And The Sickle Cell Trait
UNDERSTANDING SICKLE CELL ANAEMIAAND THE SICKLE CELL TRAIT
Introduction
Sickle Cell Anaemia is the commonest of most severe form of Sickle Cell Disease. SCD is a collective
term for hereditary haemoglobinopathies caused by the inheritance of a mutated haemoglobin allele
(sickle haemoglobin HbS) in the erythrocytes. The HbS mutation is caused by a Valine to Glutamic
acid substitution at the 6th amino acid of the β globin chain. (Harmon et al., 2012)The first known
case of SCD in the western world was recorded in 1910 in the United States, when a 20 year old black
student from Grenada presented abnormal erythrocytes upon examination of his blood. This can now
be recognised as the major characteristic of SCD where the erythrocytes assume the shape of a sickle
when deprived of oxygen in vivo hence the name of the disease. Although SCD is most prevalent in
individuals of African ancestry, the disease is also existent in people from Meditterenean
Europe,Hispanic, Midle Eastern and Indian Asian backgrounds. The explanation of the regional
specificity of SCD is the correlation between the geographical locations where Falciparum Malaria
was once endemic and high incidents of Haemoglobin S mutations in those particular regions.
However, the occurrence of SCD disease in regions that have no known history of Falcipurum Malaria
can be attributed to migration. In Britain for example, the first incidents of SCD were recorded after
the postwar immigration of the non white population

Relationships In King Lear
William Shakespeare s King Lear is massive in scope and deals with many themes. I d like to focus on
King Lear s relationship with his daughters as it evolves throughout the play as well as the play King
Lear s themes regarding politics and politicking. The passage I think best represents the conclusion of
these themes is King Lear s conversation with Cordelia in Act 5, scene 3 where they have been taken
prisoner by the English. My conclusion from reading this passage closely is that in Shakespeare s
King Lear, King Lear s speech to Cordelia regarding their impending imprisonment builds
Shakespeare s idea of caged potential and judgement for those who politic. The first lines of this
speech, No, no, no, no! Come, let s away to prison: We two alone will sing like birds i the cage: (5.3.8
9) in response to Cordelia s question of whether they should see Goneril and Regan, give us an idea of
King Lear s mental state at this time in the play. King Lear appears to be lucid and to have largely
regained his sanity from the earlier scenes of the play once he has reunited with Cordelia. He insists
strongly, with four noes, that they should go immediately to prison. The metaphor of Lear and
Cordelia as birds in a cage implies that he and Cordelia will have lost their freedom, as a bird in a cage
loses its ability to fly. Yet, by saying that they shall sing in this cage, Lear says that they will be happy
while they have lost flight and freedom, they will have one another. King Lear

Yeats on Change and Stability, and How They...
The world is a place that is ever changing, yet somehow it always stays the same. There is a saying,
the more things change, the more they stay the same. Another goes like this: history has a way of
repeating itself. So does that mean that people can t learn from the mistakes of the past? Certainly not.
There are brilliant minds in this world that can visualize in what ways events have gone wrong in
history. They are able to learn the faults and strengths of other, older civilizations, and build on those.
Unfortunately, these minds are few and far between, and the rest of us are left to fend for ourselves.
There comes a time in every country/civilization s existence that a bad leader takes the reins and
things go south in a hurry. This is when declension of state is put into effect, as Plato would have it.
This rise and fall of civilization is something William Butler Yeats was very familiar with. His love of
history and the sciences were combined with a philosophy all his own. His philosophy was that in all
of the fields of history, art, personality, and society, there are conflicting forces at work: change and
stability. In each society, these two forces are at work, and that can sometimes make things chaotic in
the lives of the people in the society. These forces don t even have to be a part of society; stability and
change can be a part of everyday life. Five poems of Yeats that portray the change in the world, and
the stability too, are When You Are Old, The Lake Isle

The Sun and Its Features Essay
The Sun and Its Features
Changes in the magnetic field of the sun affect us here on earth in a number of interesting ways. This
magnetic field is caused by the flow of electrically charged ions and electrons on the sun, and if it didn
t exist, the sun would be a much more boring star. The 11 year cycle of the sun s magnetic field
accounts for many of the cool features of the sun: sunspots, solar flares, and aurora borealis. At the
beginning of the cycle, the magnetic field is weak and there are very few sunspots; later, at the peak of
the cycle, the magnetic field is strong, and there are many sunspots. Sunspots are relatively cool areas
that appear as dark patches on the face of the sun. They occur where magnetic field lines are ... Show

Well, when the sun is at solar maximum, the speed and density of the solar wind goes up, and there are
many more northern lights.
Another example of the way the sun interacts with the earth is solar flares. Remember that sunspots
occur when magnetic field lines are twisted below the surface of the sun, well, solar flares occur when
magnetic field lines are twisted above the surface of the sun. Solar flares are huge explosions on the
surface of the sun that occur near sunspots. They can release as much energy as a billion megatons of
TNT. You might think that this huge a burst of energy has got to effect the earth somehow, and it does.
Big solar flares send so much electrical energy to earth that they have been known to blow out huge
portions of the power grid, disable million dollar satellites, and even corrode metal pipelines. During a
solar maximum there are many more solar flares than normal. Because of this threat, we have
launched the SOHO satellite into space to sit between the sun and the earth and monitor the sun s
activity. It can give us some advanced warning if a solar flare is headed our way.
A third example of how the sunspot cycle effects the earth is more interesting, but also more
controversial. Scientists have found that the 11 year solar cycle isn t the same every time. The sun
goes through this cycle like a pendulum, but the pendulum is an unstable one. Sometimes the
pendulum can

Elijah Pierson Sparknotes
Paul E. Johnson and Sean Wilentz wrote a biographical story of a man named Matthias, whose
original name was Matthew Roberts. They were intrigued by his murder trial from the nineteen
century (181). The storyline clearly presents controversy of Matthew Roberts way of life, his
preachings, and the events that took place in his Kingdom Mount Zion. Mr. Roberts was a great
influencer as a religious man during the nineteenth century. Religion, in my opinion, are one of the
main symbols of this storyline. Religion influenced the way the characters in this story made decision
and acted in such vigorous ways. For example, the life of Elijah Pierson. He was one of the prestigious
man in New York City who fell in love with Sarah Stanford. Sarah ... Show more content on

The authors then started to describe Matthew Roberts life story in great detail from his childhood to
his adulthood in chapter two just after the biography of Elijah Pierson. Matthew Roberts started out
well for himself. But later, I came to read that he was an abusive husband. He lost countless jobs due
to his preaching to his coworkers of sinful doings which later resulted in him being discharge from his
place of work. Because of Matthias inconsistency with work it led his family to drown in debt and
became poor. Eventually, Matthias once again spoke in sermons about his beliefs. Although many
thought he was insane, he still gained audiences that truly believed him. His acts of religion led him
powerful enough to start a Kingdom named Mount Zion. Mount Zion was a placed owned originally
by Elijah Pierson but when Matthias visited, he said it was the perfect place to start the Kingdom and
so they did. It was indeed a perfect place in their eyes but things started to become chaotic when
Matthias started assigning sexual partners for himself and his followers. These led to other suspicious
events such as the sudden death of Elijah Pierson who later Matthias was accused for his death and
was charge of murder and fraud. He was also charged for his acts toward his daughter for beating her
after Benjamin Folgers slept with her even though she was already a married woman. All in all this
story was shocking from the themes of poverty, power, wealth, religion,

Lost And Found Of American History
Lost and Found of American History There is a conflict going on in America. The youth of America
are being taught false and inconsistent facts about the history of the country they call home. The
conflict is between those who want a more patriotic history taught to children and young adults, while
the other side wants the whole truth, including the ugly details of terrible times, of the foundation of
this country taught in schools as well as in children s literature that claim to be historically accurate.
The average American textbook gives very little detail about the real history of the country and leave
out large portions that do not adhere to the stereotypical history of the American dream. Children s
books, such as the American Girl and Little House series are just two examples of historical fiction for
adolescents that are to some extent misrepresentative of the lifestyle of different generations of the
past and are supposed to be factual. Contrary to popular belief and the amount of information
distributed in history textbooks the English colony at Plymouth, Massachusetts in 1620 was not the
first permanent colony established by the English (Loewen 72). In May 1607, 105 men, plus the crew
of the ships, came ashore on the banks of the James River in what is now known as the
Commonwealth of Virginia to settle what was to be known as Jamestown (Dabney 1 5). These settlers

The Essential Role of the Federal Reserve
The Federal Reserve was established as the Central bank of the United States in late 1913. Commonly
referred to as the Fed, it is responsible for managing currency, money supply, and interest rates
(Lecture, 10/6). While the bank is given much autonomy over its actions, it is not independent from
the US government in that the legislature is responsible for allowing the Federal Reserve to act freely,
and elected officials appoint central bankers. These are two primary mechanisms for keeping the Fed

With the onset of the war, the stability of the relationship between Britain, France, and Germany
which the Gold Standard was dependent on crippled (lecture, 10/13). During the interwar period, 1914

floating exchange rate. The interwar period saw a breakdown in international monetary coordination
proving that a floating economy was doomed for failure (FLB 264). Outside of the lack of
international coordination, the Gold Standard had other downfalls leading to its demise. For example,
national governments had no authority to stimulate their country s economies in times of need.
Moreover, the fixed economy limits foreign trade, hurting the country s industries (lecture,

Tuck Northrop Leadership
Tuck Northrop should receive the Beard Award because I truly cannot think of a person who is as
caring and kind as he is and also excels in so many areas. I m a junior at Fairfield Ludlowe High
School, and though Tuck is not one of my academic teachers, he coaches me in both the fall and
spring on our high school sailing team.
Though I was only a freshman and had not experienced the team pre Tuck, everything I had heard of
the past years was only negative. But from the second Tuck arrived as our coach, the team has been on
a continuous incline to some of the best years that the Fairfield Sailing Team has experienced in its
existence. We do have a few good sailors on the team from their own past experience, but I definitely
credit Tuck s coaching ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is not a single coach out there who cares about his sailors more than Tuck. I have been on many
teams in the past, and not one coach dedicates as much time or care into the team as Tuck does. In the
three years that he has been our coach so far, we have greatly increased our team building activities off
the water, which has ultimately made the team stronger than ever in its overall chemistry, disregarding
just our skills and knowledge of the sport. Tuck also knows each of the team members very well
individually, which allows him to pick the best team pairings and also teach us based on our individual
personalities, goals, and weaknesses. He wants each one of us to succeed more than anyone I know,
and is willing to do everything he possibly can in order to help us on our own personal paths to
success in sailing, academics, or more. I have no doubt that Tuck knows each of his students just as
well in the classroom as he does on our team, allowing him to interact with both his students and us
much more easily than other teachers. His ability to unite all of the team members enables our success
overall to have reached our current achievements and hopefully even more in the future.
While these two highlights of Tuck s personality and ideals demonstrate very well the type of person
he is, he has so many more great qualities including his generosity, ambition, and fun loving nature.

Milky Way Report
Home to Earth Our Earth is part of the galaxy known as the Milky Way. Astronomers for centuries
have pointed their telescopes toward the Milky Way trying to discover the mysteries the galaxy holds.
The white light that one can see is known to be the origin of our solar system. Milky Way galaxy is a
gravitational bound system consisting of stars, stellar remnants, an interstellar medium of gas and
dust, and dark matter. It was named after the milk because of its appearance. It happen to look as a
dim glowing arching across the night sky that can only be seen by the telescope. The Milky Way is a
combination of different aspects that contributes to its incredibility. These include the age,
surrounding galaxies, and clusters. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Milky Way was first determined by Galileo Galilei with his telescope in 1610. Thanks to Galileo
because before the use of his telescope, the formation of stars was a confusion to most astronomers.
With the use of a telescope, Galileo studied the Milky Way and discovered that it was composed of a
huge number of faint stars. There was a confusion on stars. Until 1920, astronomers thought that all
stars were contained inside of the Milky Way. After Galileo s telescope, other astronomers became
more creative on understanding that the Milky Way is just one of many galaxies now known to be
billions. The Milky Way contains more than one planet like the solar system which is located within
the disk. The solar system is located on the constellation of gas and dust called the Orion Arm

A Single Story Analysis
When Adichie refers to a single story, she is describing that a person or group of people may be
disillusioned due to their lack of exposure to other perspectives and ideas. For instance, Adichie states
that when she read American and European storybooks as a child, all of the characters were of the
white race and exemplified white characteristics, leading to an ignorant and close minded depiction of
the world. Moreover, when Adichie began reading African literature, she found that people like me,
girls with skin the color of chocolate, whose kinky hair could not form ponytails, could also exist in
literature (Adichie 1:07). This illustrates that in both African and European literature, characterization
is limited to the demographics known to the writers, the story is restricted based on one s viewpoint.
Furthermore, the danger in simply reading or writing a single story is that over time, a person, or
group of people, can become bias due to their lack of exposure to cultural and ethnical diversity. For
example, Adichie describes that when she met the family of Fide, her houseboy, and saw that one of
Fide s brothers had woven a beautiful basket she was taken aback because it had become impossible
for me to see them as anything else but poor. Their poverty was my single story for them (Adichie
3:43). This seemingly minor misconception exposes Adichie to the dangers of following a single story
, a reality check which changed her perception of the world. Furthermore, the

Fundamental Principles Of The Metaphysics Of Morals By Kant
In, Fundamental Principles of the Metaphysics of Morals, Kant states his belief that philosophy is
divided into three parts. The three parts of philosophy include, physics, ethics, and logic. Kant states
that all rational knowledge is either material or formal. Formal/natural philosophy is known as logic,
while material/moral philosophy has to do with reasons. Moral principles, are centered on theories of
reason, rather than character and value. If your actions are taken for morals alone, rather than any
other reason, they are considered morals. Also, an action is judged on the reason it was taken, rather
than the result of that action. Furthermore, if you respect and act in accordance with moral law, then
your actions are moral.

Fairies In A Midsummer s Night Dream
In A Midsummer s Night Dream by William Shakespeare, the struggle of balance and accord is
predominant, in many of the characters story. The mortal world and the fairy world have crossed over
many times in this play, and throughout their interactions, there has been forces of who is superior and
who is the weaker of the two. The Athenian lovers are just like any modern couples, and they have
fights or arguments at times, for example, both Lysander and Demetrius try to show their authority
and powers in their respective relationships. Puck is a mischievous fairy that tries to mess with the
mortals lives in any way possible. These interactions show to the mortals what the possibilities the
fairies have at their use, or to show that mortals are weaker than the fairies. The struggle of balance
and accord can be seen more clearly through the interactions of the fairy world and the ... Show more

There are many instances of struggling with balance and accord between the two worlds, fairy, and

Puck s mistake, he has made both Demetrius and Lysander fall in love with Helena. This can be seen
as a struggle of balance of power and accord as Puck is showing his superiority and show to the lovers

with what has happened to them. The love potion that Oberon and Puck use has lead to many

The Landlady By Roald Dahl
The theme in the short story, The Landlady , by Roald Dahl is that naive people who judge outward
appearances should avoid trusting deceptive strangers because this can result in death. The first
example is when Billy first enters the Bed and breakfast and puts his stuff down. There were no hats
and coats in the hall, there were no umbrellas, no walking sticks nothing (Dahl 26). This means that
the place is empty because it is bad. This shows that Billy is naive and lacks wisdom. Furthermore,
when talking with the landlady she says that Temple and Mulholland are still on the 4th floor together.
But my dear boy, he never left. He s still here. Mr.Temple is also here. They re on the fourth floor,
both of them together ( Dahl 32). These are signs of danger because usually, someone who hears that

More importantly, when Billy and the landlady first meet each other, the landlady portrays herself as a
good person. She was forty five or fifty years old, and the moment she saw him, she gave him a warm,
welcoming smile (Dahl 24). This presents that the landlady is purposely misleading Billy to think that
she is a good person when she is really not. This relates to the theme because the landlady is tricking
Billy to thinking she is a good person so that he would stay. In the short story, there is a lot of
figurative language. In fact, the author Roald Dahl uses foreshadowing to create suspense. For
example, the tea tasted faintly of bitter almonds (Dahl 34). This quote shows foreshadowing because it
gives the reader an idea of what the tea might contain in it, which was poison. In addition, the author
uses imagery to give the reader an idea of how the character looks like. For instance, the back was
hard and cold, and when he pushed the hair to one side with his fingers, he could see the skin
underneath, grayish black and dry and perfectly preserved (Dahl

Coping motives involve drinking to avoid the experience of negative emotions such as depression or

studies have found a significant positive relationship between these variables and a strong association
with alcohol related problems for high and moderate level of social anxiety (Ham et al., 2007; Martens

Blepharitis Research Paper
Eyelashes are tiny hairs located on the upper and lower human eyelids. Each eyelid tends to be in the
form of layers which might amount to 4 5 layers of the eyelid. They serve an important purpose of
securing the eyes from direct exposure to dust. They are rooted deep in to eyelid. Any sort of threat to
the eyes is automatically detected and responded by the contraction of muscles that are present inside
the eyelids. In the fractions of seconds all of this process gets executed. The eyelashes act as shields
every time the eye flickers. A grease type of substance is emitted from internal sebaceous organs when
a flicker occurs. The eyes are then filled with this substance. The organs which carry the tears
surround the edges confining the eyelids. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Blepharitis: Symptoms of blepharitis incorporate aggravation of the real part of the eyelids, with
crusting or scales at cover edges. Eyelids are generally red, thickened, blazing, and sore and feel
bothersome, and might be stuck together in the mornings. Blepharitis can be brought about by a
bacterial disease (with the outside layers being hard to evacuate) or because of dermatitis (with the
scales all the more effectively expelled). Your eyes might be sensitive to light. The condition is
regularly perpetual (durable) and has a tendency to be connected with dandruff or potentially dry eye.

How Did Germany Lose Ww2
In the beginning of World War II, Germany seemed to be on a path to dominating Europe. Our world
could be vastly different politically, technologically, and socially if this had happened, but it didn t.
Why is this? While Germany led many campaigns during World War II, it seems like one caused it to
lose the war: Germany s loss of North Africa in 1943 eventually led to its downfall. This is because
the North African failure was a massive loss of resources and morale and because it gave the Allies a
geographic advantage. It started Germany on a slow decline that lasted until it finally surrendered in
1945. One of the primary reasons the North African campaign was so damaging was because of the
resources lost by its failure. The Germans lost thousands of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

the Mediterranean was open and the USSR could get the reinforcements it needed to begin its fatal

overthrowing one of Germany s main allies and supporters and beginning their own push into
Germany. Losing control of Africa provided the Allies with a strategic advantage that Germany didn t
have the resources to cope with. Throughout the second World War, Germany was involved in

The Curtiss P-40 Warhawk Fighters Essay
The Curtiss P 40 Warhawk was a single engine, single seat, metal fighter plane and ground attack
aircraft that was made by the Americans. The P 40 Warhawk fighters first flew in 1938 and caught the
attention of the United States Army Air Corps, who placed the largest fighter plane order it had ever
made for fighters for a count of 524 at a cost of US$13 million. This was the earliest serious fighter in
WWII and did its job until better fighters came out. It was known as a safe and secure aircraft that was
able to fly pilots back home after being shot up in action. Many variants of this plane were later
created. In addition, the shark teeth graphics were a big feature on this plane. The first flight of the

A P 40 would out roll a Zero at high speeds, and a good P 40 pilot could use this to great effect if the
Zero pilot fell for it. Another thing was that for every good Zero model, the P 40 had a variant that was
faster. Therefore, the P 40 pilot could always break off an attack. The P 40, of course, had an even
greater advantage in diving speeds, with well over 400 miles per hour attainable with no risk of
damage to the planes strong airframe. Early Zero s couldn t hit 350 miles per hour without the risk of
damage to their plane. To get back on topic of the P 40 s design, the P 40 s rudder had red, white, and
blue stripes. The engine cowling had a large shark mouth and eye. There were actually only 199 P 40s
made. The rest were variants of it. The next step in the P 40 developmental stage was the P 40A. The P
40A received a camera installation near the rear of the fuselage. The P 40B received a better protected
fuel system to keep it from possibly being blown up. The P 40C then was given the ability to carry
bombs and received self sealing gas tanks. Less than 50 P 40 Ds were made, and they basically got a
complete overhaul. They had a completely redesigned canopy, better cockpit, and all had two machine
guns added, one in each wing and the distinctive chin air scoop was made bigger so they could
properly cool the large Allison engines .The P 40E and P 40 E I was a lot like the P 40D except the

Essay on Illegal Music Downloading
Ever since the start of illegal music downloading there has been an ongoing debate. As with any
controversy, there are those whose positions stand at one end of the spectrum or the other and also
those who are moderate or nonchalant. Many believe that downloading a song without paying for it is
not only illegal, but also immoral. None the less, people continue to download songs, rationalizing that
the record companies are getting what they deserve after years of overpriced CD s or that the artists
won t really miss the money. Some people are not sure what to make of the situation, sympathizing in
some respects with either side. There are several proposed solutions to this problem, but it has become

Companies like Apple, have decided that it is best to get in with the downloading business. However,
an end to the illegal downloading conflict remains to be realized. The RIAA and associated artists
continue to wage war against illegal downloaders while computer savvy audiences persist in sharing
music files online every day. While it is undoubtedly true that downloading music is a crime, it
remains to be proven that it is wrong. Without establishing this principle, most downloader s are likely
to continue the activity. Even with new, inexpensive and available means of downloading files, they
can still be shared for free online. The rift must be repaired between music lovers who feel that they
have been taken advantage of in the past and recording companies and artists who worry about their
future livelihood. I believe that at the heart of this controversy is a drive to bring music production
into the twenty first century. Making CD s more accessible, economical and usable benefits all
everyone except maybe the CD producers, in the end. Listeners can access music when, where and
how they want to for less money, as the have grown accustomed to doing. Musicians cut out the
middleman, allowing them to keep more of the profit. This is undoubtedly the future of the industry.
While companies are searching for ways to hold on to 90 percent of the profit and to continue to
combat illegal downloading, others are negotiating new terrain

the early to mid 800s BCE. The Assyrian empire was located in what is today known as Northern Iraq.
Assyrians were recognized as fearsome and ruthless conquerors of the ancient near east. This relief
sculpture features a winged male figure pollinating a sacred tree and it would have decorated the walls
of Ashurnasirpal II s Northwest Palace at Calakh. Assyrian kings often commissioned relief sculptures

This would have been on the walls of Ashurnasirpal II s palace so it would have been seen by both

power as well, this is a human sized work, the viewer is forced to confront the figure kind of face to

shows up in Assyrian art is the idea of showing the strength of Assyrian warriors by also showing the
strength of their opponents. This can be seen in another relief sculpture from the Northwest Palace
Assyrian archers pursuing enemies, where the enemies are depicted as almost giants yet they are seen
fleeing across the Euphrates river from the Assyrian archers (Kleiner, Gardner s Art through the Ages:

1. Two System Failures Responsible for Contributing to the Sentinel Event: Insufficient Drug
Information and Inconsistent Independent Double Check System
Multiple system failures contributed to the death of baby Miguel. One system failure responsible was
due to insufficient drug information. The insufficiency was due of the facility allowing a pharmacist to
prepare pediatric medications for a diagnosis that he or she lacked knowledge. Even though the
pharmacist did reach out for assistance, they still lacked the knowledge to recognize the error at hand.
Had the pharmacist been familiar with the treatment for congenital syphilis, they possibly could have
prevented this tragedy. Additionally, the facility did not employee a ... Show more content on

Additionally, the facility should have a system in place that alerts the staff regarding high dosages.
One way to alert the pharmacist would be via a computerized system that monitors the dispensing of
all medications. The system should contain an up to date database for referencing medications. Also,
the computerized system should have parameters set for alerting pharmacy and nursing staff for all
high dosages. When taking cost into consideration, the facility might not have the feasibility to
implement an entire computerized dispensing system that provides dosage alerts and cross check off
of medications. To maintain patient safety with limited funds, the facility should have remote access to
a pediatric pharmacy where all pediatric medications can be cross checked and verified. If the facility
was unable to have a pediatric pharmacist on staff, the remote access would provide a safety net for
pediatric medication dispensing. In addition to the pharmacy staff having access to a computerized
system, the physician should as well. Had the physician had computer access and been required to
enter medication orders, the tenfold error could have been noted and not reached baby Miguel.
B. Disciplines From Where the Insufficient Drug Information and Inconsistent Independent Double
Check System Emerged The corrective actions should emerge from the facility, the physician, the

I. What Business Are We In? II. Where Are We Now? External Assessment Trend Analysis Economic
Factors U.S GDP One of the main economic factors that would affect JNJ is GDP. As shown above
GDP in the United States is decreasing meaning resources will be limited and there will be a much
needed increase in cash flows for competitive advantage. GDP s in others countries are increasing
giving JNJ more opportunities to expand to more markets around the world to increase their market
share and distribution. Currency | US Dollar Per Currency December 31st, 2008 | US Dollar Per

Keeping up with the newest technology would make research and development much more productive
and efficient and would give JNJ better opportunities to come up with newer, healthier, and more
useful products. Not only would it help research and development, but technology innovations can
help with operations and even with control factors over the company. There are many different forces
that JNJ needs to be aware of. They need to be able to take full advantage of the opportunities and
prepare for the threats to maximize competitive advantage knowing the different trends. Potential
development of substitute products Competitive Analysis Porter s Five Force Model Rivalry among
competing firms Bargaining power of suppliers Bargaining power of consumers Potential entry of new
competitors Potential development of substitute products The existence of products outside of the
realm of the common product boundaries increases the propensity of customers to switch to
alternatives. Since pharmaceutical and medical devices are necessary for the maintenance of good
health, a significant decrease in use is not likely. The largest threat of substitutes comes from generic
pharmaceuticals. Once a drug loses patent protection, associated revenue usually rapidly falls. One
way to mitigate the effect of generic drugs would be to develop more compounds with lower sales,
perhaps by targeting more precise conditions. A similar threat of substitutes is

The Old Breed
Firstly, With the Old Breed at Peleliu and Okinawa, was a very interesting book. I am an individual
that is not a fan of reading, but this book was interesting to say the lease. I would recommend anyone
who is interested in knowing about the reality of going into the combat. In this book, I was very
impressed that the author of the book, who goes by the name of Eugene B. Sledge, did an amazing job
telling the readers in details what he experienced during his enlistment. Eugene Sledge, who was also
a Marine and proud to be with Company K, 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine regiment, 1st Marine Division,
made sure to take his memoir to an entire different level than other memoirs, that gave an account of
what they may have experienced during the war. E.B. Sledge, made ... Show more content on

Okinawa was known as the longest and largest battle (157). This time, causing more casualties than
previously. As mentioned previously, Okinawa was Japanese territory and they knew the terrain
perfectly. This time, not only was there constant rain, but constant shelling. Constant shelling made it
very difficult for Americans. It was very difficult for them to get those men who were wounded and
needed help. Taking such risk, would sometimes cause the casualties and stretcher bearers to get hit.
As a result, they would have to leave behind the marines who died on Okinawa unlike Peleliu. From
my experience, of all the hardships and hazards the troops had suffer, prolonged shell fire was more
apt to break a man psychologically than anything else (265). The Americans had to be vigilant at all
times. Most nights on Peleliu, we had to keep a sharp lookout in front, rear, right and left. But that
night on Okinawa, we had to scan even the dark sky for parachutes (220). The Japanase wanted to
ensure by any means necessary that there was bloodshed, even if they had to literally put their own life
on the line. To ensure that, the Japanese had kamikaze and suicide

The word yoga comes from yuj in sanskrit, which means unity or Yoke the relative meaning is to
concentrate attention or use . Asana is one of the most significant tools of yoga helping to position the
body in various positions with the total participation of the mind and self to establish communication
between our inner and outer self (Iyengar, 2001). Yoga practices assume a critical part in the support
of human systems. Yoga perfect builds up the body as well as produces intellectual capacities.
Moreover, yogis procure dominance of the involuntary muscles of their body (A.M. Moorthy and J.
David Manual Raju, 1983). In this study we try to discover the effects of aerobic dance and yogic
practice on blood lipid profiles among university students. Yoga provides techniques (physically,
mentally, intellectually and emotionally) for this growth. These techniques are also therapeutically
useful for many of the stress related problems. Sound health is an adjusted advancement of a person s
identity and enthusiastic dispositions, empowering him to live in harmony with his condition. It is
only a great adjustment to the biological balance in our body and this can be achieved by doing yogic
practices and exercises: Yoga has a total message for mankind, has a message for the human body, has
a message for the human personality and has a message for the human soul. Swami Kuvalayananda 2

Physical Therapy Case Study
Barely 30 years old, Mark, a rising Orange County management professional, has become an expert
on recovering from hip surgery as he completes his third and hopefully final rehabilitation program
following his latest arthroscopic procedure for a hip impingement.
Unfortunately for this life long hockey player his extremely athletic lifestyle that includes working
out, weight training and running marathons, took a toll on his abnormally shaped hip bones resulting
in labrum tears of the cartilage and hip impingements that required surgical repair.
His first surgery, on his right hip, in 2007, was done with an open procedure included three rods with
screws and required a three day hospital stay and six months of recovery time.
In Sept. 2013, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Two days after a 17 mile run, he was stopped in his tracks with pain and weakness in the right hip.
I couldn t believe it, he said. My left hip was great and then out of no where I couldn t even run one
half mile.
In April 2015, he was back in the operating room to repair the initial hip and shortly thereafter back
with Jennifer.
Even though this third procedure repaired the initial surgery, the irony is my rehab this time, has
actually been the easiest, Mark said. Obviously, I knew what to expect, but all of the work I put into
the last rehab, and the strengthening exercises I did for my hamstrings and lower body, has made it
nearly flawless. It is still going to take three or four months until I m fully recovered. Through this
process, I have learned the importance of not pushing it and to rest. For an active person, that is not
always easy to do, but in the end makes all the difference.
Within two weeks of the third surgery, Mark was off crutches, able to drive, and back to work. Jen add

Literary Analysis of the Tragedy of Julius Caesar
Literary Analysis of The Tragedy of Julius Caesar William Shakespeare wrote his play The Tragedy of
Julius Caesar, so that his readers could have an idea of the lives, wars, and conflicts during the roman
times. Shakespeare may have written the play because of his interest in history. He studied the
writings of the historian Plutarch, who was alive at the same time as Caesar and wrote about his life.
He also needed a job and money, and he had a fear of Queen Elizabeth dying. Shakespeare loved her
and he feared that when she died the arts would flourish, so he wrote stories for her. When a reader
reads the play, they will learn about Caesars life, how he died, and also about the civil strife that
followed. They may or may not want to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If they don t care about superstition and they just want to read about his life and such, then they will
probably continue to enjoy the subject of Caesar. Shakespeare uses the writing style of iambic
pentameter, which means that there are five iambs, or units of rhythm, in each line. The style does not
affect the message all that much because a reader probably will not pay attention to the rhythm, but

  • 2. Jacob Riis Social Reform Movement As photography was being used more and more as a method of documentation, they were among the first to use it to push social reform efforts. They closely documented the devastating effects of industrialization and urbanization on the working class American. Through their work they brought attention to the need for housing and (child) labor laws. They used their medium to bring real proof to the public and legislators, where it needed to be seen. Actually, instead of documentary photography, it may best be called social reform photography, as they both worked tirelessly and used the medium to force attention and to effect social change. Riis used photography to illustrate his social reform documentary writing, he was not originally a photographer, but he saw the drama and sense of proof photographs provided. During this period his social conscience grew simultaneously with his craft. This resulted in being hired by the National Child Labour Committee in 1908. • 3. The War Rule Of The 1870 s And 1920 S It all took place between the 1870 s and 1920 s. Home rule was a huge part of the political life in Ireland, which meant that the Irish Parliament would be restored for most issues, but the British government would still cover many important areas (Conflict 3). The term Government Association started to be used very frequently; Isaac Butt was the gentleman who founded this association. In 1873 this became known as the Home Rule League and in 1874 a general election was held where fifty home rulers were elected to the Home Rule party also known as the Irish Parliamentary Party (Irish 29). Butts goal was to get both Protestants and Catholics to support Home Rule as a movement targeted towards giving Ireland a federal government within the United Kingdom. Butt was not an aggressive leader and the people of Ireland did not feel he was fulfilling his job completely. A man by the name of Charles Stewart Parnell challenged Butt and became the leader in 1880 (Charles17). The British people began to think that the Home Rule would lead to the separation of Ireland and Britain. Parnell realized that the people did not like the British Rule and this is what caused them to support Irish nationalism. In 1880 Parnell won the support of the Fenians and the Irish Republican brotherhood that wanted total separation but were willing to compromise and accept Home Rule. In 1881 the second Land Act gave the Three F s which the Land League had demanded. Fair rents would be fixed by judges ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Essay On The Conflict Between China And Russia The Second Sino Japanese War (formerly addressed as the China Incident ) took place in China from 1937 until 1945. In this war, the Japanese sought out China s abundance of raw materials and land. The two forces, China and Japan, battled over the control of said materials and most importantly, land. Before this, China was mainly concerned with the civil war (which was on and off until 1950, years after the Second Sino Japanese war) between nationalists (Kuomintang party lead by Chiang Kai Shek) and communists (Communist Party of China lead by Mao Zedong). This war also served as an introduction to the Pacific end of World War II. This conflict began on behalf of the Japanese occupying northern China, more specifically, Manchuria. This occupation began relatively early on, before there was a full blown war. Both Japan and Russia, as a result of the war between those two powers two decades ago in the early 1900 s, occupied Manchuria. The Japanese s interest in China seemed to have expanded to be more than just resources but rather total control of the country. They preyed on weak, dismembered China and feared China unifying into a solid nation under the guidance of the Kuomintang party. This boiling mix of tensions and fear lead to what would be known as the Manchurian or Mukden Incident. This incident describes the fright within the Japanese when an unidentified bomb went off on a Japanese railway in Mukden. The Imperial Japanese Army guards in charge of the railway took ... • 5. Analysis Of Nathaniel Hawthorne s Scarlet Fever Nathaniel Hawthorne Nathaniel Hawthorne was born on July 4, 1804 in Salem Massachusetts. His father died of yellow fever when he was 4 years old and left behind a wife and 3 children. Hawthorne was raised by an abnormal and solitary mother. He had a leg injury at a young age, which left him not being able to move for months (Biography) . His leg injury, on the other hand, did not get in the way of what he was dreaming of doing growing up. During the time of his leg injury, Hawthorne developed an interest in reading and writing. He grew up being an enthusiastic reader of poetry and exotic adventure stories. Hawthorne had to overcome a lot of obstacles growing up to become a writer. Despite losing a father and having a leg injury at such a young age, Hawthorne became a successful writer of the American Romantic period. Thanks to his uncles, Hawthorne attended Bowdoin College in Maine. His uncles paid for his college tuition there. He attended the college when he was 17 years old and spent 4 years there. At the college, he met and made friends with Franklin Piece and Henry Wadsworth (Biography) . While he was attending college, Hawthorne missed his family so much and returned home to Salem after graduation (Biography) . He stayed in Salem for 12 years. He came back to Salem not only to spend time with his family, but to spend time studying puritan history and develop his writing skills. During his 12 year stay in Salem, Hawthorne wrote a few books. He wrote a novel called ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is a rare figure type, and the only intact seated Cup bearer from Cycladic art. In the Cup Bearer the male is made of marble, and is sitting on a stool made from the same piece of marble. He is holding a cup in his right hand, and is poised as though getting ready to take a drink, make a toast, or offer a libation to the gods. • 7. Social Classes In Hinduism And The Caste System Hinduism reinforces the caste system, which is a division of society into social classes that are created by birth or occupation and it is a prevalent social system of Hinduism (Molloy 90). Thus, class and race are both elements affected by the caste system. There are different castes, or social classes, and there are also subcastes. Despite the caste being permanent for one s life, it s not to say that those in lower castes cannot move up to a higher caste. This is where the concept of rebirth comes into Hinduism, which is the idea that an individual can make certain choices in their lives, good or bad, and this can affect what caste they will be reborn into. There are five main social classes in Hinduism, they are as follows: the priest, the warrior noble, the merchant, the peasant, and the untouchable. The peasant does manual labor and is expected to serve the higher castes, while the untouchable is the lowest caste system and is expected to do the lowest work, such as cleaning toilets, sweeping streets, collecting animal carcasses, and tanning animal hides (Molloy 91). • 8. Bp Gulf Mexico 1. Do you agree or disagree with Tony Hayward s quote at the end of the case? Was this disaster strictly a BP failure or an industry accident? (One of my biggest mistakes was that I allowed myself to become the lightning rod for hatred and anger. He went on to say, I genuinely feel that this could have happened to anyone. This is not BP. It is an industry accident.) I mostly agree with Tony Hayward because an accident of that size is a result of a complex combination of mechanical failures, human decisions, problems in engineering design and operational difficulties. It is true that the problema could be avoided by a better performance of BP, but on the other hand there are regulators that allow that company s behavior. 2. What ... In what ways did BP lack the appropriate safety culture? What could it have done to build a stronger safety culture? BP had a lack of safety culture in different aspects. The emergency systems and alarms didn t work as expected, they were using centralizers that didn t used before. Moreover, the results of stability tests weren t analyzed as they should. The company did shortcuts that didn t allow workers to fulfill all the tasks during the drilling process. BP could prove a high level of personal safety, but it was not the same for the general safety. Moreover, its centralized system implied lack of consistency in the security system. Normally, an operator has the right to access private land for purpose of preliminary activities, such as marking out land. Notice must be given to the occupiers or owners of privately held land , but usually consent is not necessary. These rights of access are generally mitigated by restrictions on private land, such as those near residence or fields ect , in these circumstances, written consent of the occupier or owner must be acquired. In defined situations, the Crown can grant the right to access mineral reserves on freehold or leasehold land to third parties. This excludes land already subject to a mining tenement or in relation to a special prospecting licence . There are also circumstances where the applicant for a mining tenement must obtain written consent from the private land owner and the private land owner can veto the application . • 12. India And The Gender Bias Gender Economics Weekly Report 1 Prof. Rupa Korde Name: Ronak Shah LE2012761090 FSLE3 Question: The problem which are being faced in India and the gender bias in the healthcare sector of India India is a developing country and we all know that India is still in a health crisis. Although, India has been awarded a Polio free status by an official certificate by the World Health Organization (WHO), we still occupy 2nd position when it comes to population and the 112th position in sex ratio out of 190 countries . With this data we can assess the condition of healthcare in India. The healthcare system is very bad in our country and for a developing country like India, we require that everyone, at least the work force and the children who are the future of our country should be healthy, because if we want India to reach at a stage of a developed country then we need to make sure we have an overall development. One of my findings was a survey conducted by Dr.C.Chandramouli who is the Registrar general and the census commissioner of India. His survey was conducted in different states of India but the information I have taken is from the state, Madhya Pradesh the heart of India. The information was gathered from each and every district in Madhya Pradesh in form of questioners and in form of the verbal information which had to be gathered because there are still some villages in India who still don t know how to read or write. • 13. The Conscript Wilfrid Wilson Gibson Analysis Wilfrid Wilson Gibson was a British Georgian poet and a lot of his work gets associated with World War 1. The poet s work originally started out as magical story telling; then abandoned that style for a more honest, realistic style to life. Not life for the upper class, but for the low level workingman. The switch to talking about the life of the working class made his work more real; his war poems were told through the view of the common soldier. His switch in his poetry theme was not pleasing to everyone though. A conscript is compulsory enlistment for state services, specifically armed forces. The Conscript is about how working class men, the conscripts, are being examined by doctors to see if they are in the proper conditions to go to war or be sent home. The doctors do not care if the men die instantly when they go to war. In The Conscript, Wilfrid Wilson Gibson develops the theme of the predestined death for the common man. The poet does this by ... • 14. Sickle Cells Anaemia And The Sickle Cell Trait UNDERSTANDING SICKLE CELL ANAEMIAAND THE SICKLE CELL TRAIT Introduction Sickle Cell Anaemia is the commonest of most severe form of Sickle Cell Disease. SCD is a collective term for hereditary haemoglobinopathies caused by the inheritance of a mutated haemoglobin allele (sickle haemoglobin HbS) in the erythrocytes. The HbS mutation is caused by a Valine to Glutamic acid substitution at the 6th amino acid of the β globin chain. (Harmon et al., 2012)The first known case of SCD in the western world was recorded in 1910 in the United States, when a 20 year old black student from Grenada presented abnormal erythrocytes upon examination of his blood. This can now be recognised as the major characteristic of SCD where the erythrocytes assume the shape of a sickle when deprived of oxygen in vivo hence the name of the disease. Although SCD is most prevalent in individuals of African ancestry, the disease is also existent in people from Meditterenean Europe,Hispanic, Midle Eastern and Indian Asian backgrounds. The explanation of the regional specificity of SCD is the correlation between the geographical locations where Falciparum Malaria was once endemic and high incidents of Haemoglobin S mutations in those particular regions. However, the occurrence of SCD disease in regions that have no known history of Falcipurum Malaria can be attributed to migration. In Britain for example, the first incidents of SCD were recorded after the postwar immigration of the non white population ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 15. Relationships In King Lear William Shakespeare s King Lear is massive in scope and deals with many themes. I d like to focus on King Lear s relationship with his daughters as it evolves throughout the play as well as the play King Lear s themes regarding politics and politicking. The passage I think best represents the conclusion of these themes is King Lear s conversation with Cordelia in Act 5, scene 3 where they have been taken prisoner by the English. My conclusion from reading this passage closely is that in Shakespeare s King Lear, King Lear s speech to Cordelia regarding their impending imprisonment builds Shakespeare s idea of caged potential and judgement for those who politic. The first lines of this speech, No, no, no, no! Come, let s away to prison: We two alone will sing like birds i the cage: (5.3.8 9) in response to Cordelia s question of whether they should see Goneril and Regan, give us an idea of King Lear s mental state at this time in the play. King Lear appears to be lucid and to have largely regained his sanity from the earlier scenes of the play once he has reunited with Cordelia. He insists strongly, with four noes, that they should go immediately to prison. The metaphor of Lear and Cordelia as birds in a cage implies that he and Cordelia will have lost their freedom, as a bird in a cage loses its ability to fly. Yet, by saying that they shall sing in this cage, Lear says that they will be happy while they have lost flight and freedom, they will have one another. King Lear ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 16. Yeats on Change and Stability, and How They... The world is a place that is ever changing, yet somehow it always stays the same. There is a saying, the more things change, the more they stay the same. Another goes like this: history has a way of repeating itself. So does that mean that people can t learn from the mistakes of the past? Certainly not. There are brilliant minds in this world that can visualize in what ways events have gone wrong in history. They are able to learn the faults and strengths of other, older civilizations, and build on those. Unfortunately, these minds are few and far between, and the rest of us are left to fend for ourselves. There comes a time in every country/civilization s existence that a bad leader takes the reins and things go south in a hurry. This is when declension of state is put into effect, as Plato would have it. This rise and fall of civilization is something William Butler Yeats was very familiar with. His love of history and the sciences were combined with a philosophy all his own. His philosophy was that in all of the fields of history, art, personality, and society, there are conflicting forces at work: change and stability. In each society, these two forces are at work, and that can sometimes make things chaotic in the lives of the people in the society. These forces don t even have to be a part of society; stability and change can be a part of everyday life. Five poems of Yeats that portray the change in the world, and the stability too, are When You Are Old, The Lake Isle ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 17. The Sun and Its Features Essay The Sun and Its Features Changes in the magnetic field of the sun affect us here on earth in a number of interesting ways. This magnetic field is caused by the flow of electrically charged ions and electrons on the sun, and if it didn t exist, the sun would be a much more boring star. The 11 year cycle of the sun s magnetic field accounts for many of the cool features of the sun: sunspots, solar flares, and aurora borealis. At the beginning of the cycle, the magnetic field is weak and there are very few sunspots; later, at the peak of the cycle, the magnetic field is strong, and there are many sunspots. Sunspots are relatively cool areas that appear as dark patches on the face of the sun. They occur where magnetic field lines are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Well, when the sun is at solar maximum, the speed and density of the solar wind goes up, and there are many more northern lights. Another example of the way the sun interacts with the earth is solar flares. Remember that sunspots occur when magnetic field lines are twisted below the surface of the sun, well, solar flares occur when magnetic field lines are twisted above the surface of the sun. Solar flares are huge explosions on the surface of the sun that occur near sunspots. They can release as much energy as a billion megatons of TNT. You might think that this huge a burst of energy has got to effect the earth somehow, and it does. Big solar flares send so much electrical energy to earth that they have been known to blow out huge portions of the power grid, disable million dollar satellites, and even corrode metal pipelines. During a solar maximum there are many more solar flares than normal. Because of this threat, we have launched the SOHO satellite into space to sit between the sun and the earth and monitor the sun s activity. It can give us some advanced warning if a solar flare is headed our way. A third example of how the sunspot cycle effects the earth is more interesting, but also more controversial. Scientists have found that the 11 year solar cycle isn t the same every time. The sun goes through this cycle like a pendulum, but the pendulum is an unstable one. Sometimes the pendulum can ... • 18. Elijah Pierson Sparknotes Paul E. Johnson and Sean Wilentz wrote a biographical story of a man named Matthias, whose original name was Matthew Roberts. They were intrigued by his murder trial from the nineteen century (181). The storyline clearly presents controversy of Matthew Roberts way of life, his preachings, and the events that took place in his Kingdom Mount Zion. Mr. Roberts was a great influencer as a religious man during the nineteenth century. Religion, in my opinion, are one of the main symbols of this storyline. Matthew Roberts started out well for himself. But later, I came to read that he was an abusive husband. He lost countless jobs due to his preaching to his coworkers of sinful doings which later resulted in him being discharge from his place of work. Because of Matthias inconsistency with work it led his family to drown in debt and became poor. Eventually, Matthias once again spoke in sermons about his beliefs. Although many thought he was insane, he still gained audiences that truly believed him. His acts of religion led him powerful enough to start a Kingdom named Mount Zion. Mount Zion was a placed owned originally by Elijah Pierson but when Matthias visited, he said it was the perfect place to start the Kingdom and so they did. It was indeed a perfect place in their eyes but things started to become chaotic when Matthias started assigning sexual partners for himself and his followers. These led to other suspicious events such as the sudden death of Elijah Pierson who later Matthias was accused for his death and was charge of murder and fraud. The youth of America are being taught false and inconsistent facts about the history of the country they call home. The conflict is between those who want a more patriotic history taught to children and young adults, while the other side wants the whole truth, including the ugly details of terrible times, of the foundation of this country taught in schools as well as in children s literature that claim to be historically accurate. The average American textbook gives very little detail about the real history of the country and leave out large portions that do not adhere to the stereotypical history of the American dream. Children s books, such as the American Girl and Little House series are just two examples of historical fiction for adolescents that are to some extent misrepresentative of the lifestyle of different generations of the past and are supposed to be factual. Contrary to popular belief and the amount of information distributed in history textbooks the English colony at Plymouth, Massachusetts in 1620 was not the first permanent colony established by the English (Loewen 72). Commonly referred to as the Fed, it is responsible for managing currency, money supply, and interest rates (Lecture, 10/6). While the bank is given much autonomy over its actions, it is not independent from the US government in that the legislature is responsible for allowing the Federal Reserve to act freely, and elected officials appoint central bankers. • 25. A Single Story Analysis When Adichie refers to a single story, she is describing that a person or group of people may be disillusioned due to their lack of exposure to other perspectives and ideas. For instance, Adichie states that when she read American and European storybooks as a child, all of the characters were of the white race and exemplified white characteristics, leading to an ignorant and close minded depiction of the world. Moreover, when Adichie began reading African literature, she found that people like me, girls with skin the color of chocolate, whose kinky hair could not form ponytails, could also exist in literature (Adichie 1:07). This illustrates that in both African and European literature, characterization is limited to the demographics known to the writers, the story is restricted based on one s viewpoint. Furthermore, the danger in simply reading or writing a single story is that over time, a person, or group of people, can become bias due to their lack of exposure to cultural and ethnical diversity. For example, Adichie describes that when she met the family of Fide, her houseboy, and saw that one of Fide s brothers had woven a beautiful basket she was taken aback because it had become impossible for me to see them as anything else but poor. Their poverty was my single story for them (Adichie 3:43). The first example is when Billy first enters the Bed and breakfast and puts his stuff down. There were no hats and coats in the hall, there were no umbrellas, no walking sticks nothing (Dahl 26). This means that the place is empty because it is bad. This shows that Billy is naive and lacks wisdom. More importantly, when Billy and the landlady first meet each other, the landlady portrays herself as a good person. She was forty five or fifty years old, and the moment she saw him, she gave him a warm, welcoming smile (Dahl 24). This presents that the landlady is purposely misleading Billy to think that she is a good person when she is really not. This relates to the theme because the landlady is tricking Billy to thinking she is a good person so that he would stay. In the short story, there is a lot of figurative language. In fact, the author Roald Dahl uses foreshadowing to create suspense. For example, the tea tasted faintly of bitter almonds (Dahl 34). This quote shows foreshadowing because it gives the reader an idea of what the tea might contain in it, which was poison. In addition, the author uses imagery to give the reader an idea of how the character looks like. They serve an important purpose of securing the eyes from direct exposure to dust. They are rooted deep in to eyelid. Any sort of threat to the eyes is automatically detected and responded by the contraction of muscles that are present inside the eyelids. In the fractions of seconds all of this process gets executed. The eyelashes act as shields every time the eye flickers. The Assyrian empire was located in what is today known as Northern Iraq. Assyrians were recognized as fearsome and ruthless conquerors of the ancient near east. This relief sculpture features a winged male figure pollinating a sacred tree and it would have decorated the walls of Ashurnasirpal II s Northwest Palace at Calakh. This would have been on the walls of Ashurnasirpal II s palace so it would have been seen by both Assyrians or any opponents that may try to invade. The size of the work helps to enforce this idea of power as well, this is a human sized work, the viewer is forced to confront the figure kind of face to face; especially if they were interacting with it in its original context on the walls. Something that shows up in Assyrian art is the idea of showing the strength of Assyrian warriors by also showing the strength of their opponents. This can be seen in another relief sculpture from the Northwest Palace Assyrian archers pursuing enemies, where the enemies are depicted as almost giants yet they are seen fleeing across the Euphrates river from the Assyrian archers (Kleiner, Gardner s Art through the Ages: The Western Perspective, p. 47). So it would make sense that sense that an Assyrian king would have such confidence that this piece could be the same size as the viewer and yet still leave an imposing ... One way to alert the pharmacist would be via a computerized system that monitors the dispensing of all medications. The system should contain an up to date database for referencing medications. Also, the computerized system should have parameters set for alerting pharmacy and nursing staff for all high dosages. When taking cost into consideration, the facility might not have the feasibility to implement an entire computerized dispensing system that provides dosage alerts and cross check off of medications. To maintain patient safety with limited funds, the facility should have remote access to a pediatric pharmacy where all pediatric medications can be cross checked and verified. If the facility was unable to have a pediatric pharmacist on staff, the remote access would provide a safety net for pediatric medication dispensing. In addition to the pharmacy staff having access to a computerized system, the physician should as well. Had the physician had computer access and been required to enter medication orders, the tenfold error could have been noted and not reached baby Miguel. B.
