Why America Needs To Change
America
Merika, land of the free and home of the brave. America is one of the strongest countries in the world,
even though we only have the second largest military. I think America needs to change. America needs
to change because we need a bigger punishment for rapists and murderers, we need better gun control,
and we need a stronger military.
First, America needs to change the way we punish rapists and murderers. I think we need to give
rapists and murderers a longer or harsher punishment. The way we punish rapists and murderers is too
easy for what they did to their victims. Murderers should have the same things happen to them as what
they did to their victims. Rapists should have life time in jail. America would be a better country

Millions Danny Hales Essay
In the film, Millions, directed by Danny Boyle, a compelling character who intrigues me is the
antagonistic Anthony Cunningham. I find his complex character interesting as he is still grieving for
his mother s tragic death whilst managing to use her death to his advantage. Also, his way of thinking
and dealing with the money is very different to from many other kids his age would do. His way of
thinking has a powerful awareness of right from wrong but throughout the movie he gets it jumbled up
a bit...
The film is set during the changing of all European currencies to a single currency the Euro. Due to
this, we can see that money is going to take a significant role in the film. Anthony (along with his
family) are dealing with the repercussion ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Anthony is still struggling within the stages of grief and is trying hard to mask it. The director shows
this in the opening scene, the two boys delightedly lay down next to each other after riding their bikes.
As the two brothers lay down next to each other, we can see that Damian is wearing a blue shirt which
can often be interpreted as sorrow or calmness. While Anthony is wearing a red jacket which is
normally deciphered as hatred or anger. However under Anthony s red jacket, we can see that he is
also wearing a blue shirt. The director s purpose of doing this is to foreshadow that Anthony is using
ignorance to mask his misery and woe. The director shows us that Anthony disguises his sadness with
annoyance towards the end of the movie when Damian brings Dorothy into their house. This is shown
because we can see Anthony thinking that she is there to replace their mother. Due to this, we see him
whispering a angry hushed tone Is that what you want? Her in there with him, instead of Mum? .
Personally, this is quite understandable because I know that it is extremely difficult to be going
through the stages of grief after someone who is close to you s death. This could link back to my first
paragraph Anthony wants to keep a close relationship with Damian by trying to set a good example by
moving on. Anthony struggling through the hardships may also be why he is pulled in by tempting

Monster Culture Cohen Summary
To start off, Jeffrey Jerome Cohen who wrote Monster Culture is Professor of English and Director of
the Medieval and Early Modern Studies Institute at the George Washington University in Washington,
DC. He is known for researching strange mysterious things that connect to an imaginative mind. He
finds interested in monsters, foreigners, queers, inhuman forces. In Jeffrey Cohen s essay Monster
Culture Cohen discusses and effectively covers important reasons on how monsters connect with the
cultures from which they rise from. I believe that Cohen s theories are valid and that monsters are a
good window into a certain culture. Importantly, Cohen s main argument is that monsters are central,
he chooses to solve in his paragraphs if monsters are even real after all. Also, his monster theory
launches a counter argument, he pushes his readers to either believe in the monster theory or not. The
reader would have to choose whether monsters exist and whether to believe or ignore Cohen s
argument. Cohen s ideas on monsters are also put together so that the readers can focus on whether or
not his claims or valid. For example, the author introduces his first claim by testing the reader s
judgments. Doing that brings out the anxiety that pervades not only his essay but also his audience s
minds. His first claim he is full of purpose he states, What I propose here is a sketch of a new modus
legend (3). By starting with a rather abrupt announcement, he lays out his objective

Comparing Attached To Technology And Paying
In the present day, one can only imagine life without technology. Over the years, technology has
advanced and has presented man kind with opportunities to progress with it too. Whether it is using
smart phones or laptops, connecting and information can be brought to us with more ease. Technology
has many benefits such as locating information more rapidly and being able to socially interact, but
has proven to be addicting, not allowing people to fully use their brains and value the power of
thinking.
To start off, knowledge can be conceived anywhere. Today, Google is the new technology...Google

The Pros And Cons Of Gay Marriage
In 2012, gay couple David Mullins and Charlie Craig went to Masterpiece Cakeshop in Colorado to
purchase a cake for their wedding. Their request was denied by the owner, Jack Phillips, because he is
Christian and does not support gay marriage. He sent them away because he believes that since
making a cake for a gay wedding goes against his religious beliefs, he doesn t have to make it. The
couple felt discriminated because of who they are, and filed civil rights charges against Phillips. David
and Charlie say that Phillips shouldn t be able to deny them goods from a public shop just because of
their sexual orientation. To this Phillips explains that he would be happy to serve the couple or any
LGBT person regular baked goods, such as a birthday cake or cookies, but he refuses to use his talents
to create a cake for a religious celebration in which he doesn t support. But is he allowed to do this?
According to Phillips he should be protected by the first amendment, freedom of speech. Baking and
decorating cakes is his art and a way of expressing himself, and he doesn t in any way want to express
an acceptance for something he doesn t agree with. The couple, along with various gay rights groups,
don t see this as any kind of excuse for turning down and discriminating customers in a shop open to
the public, which should include anyone and everyone. It s a matter of equality, and Charlie and David
aren t being treated the same way as others customers, which is unfair. The couple

A Brief Note On Guinea Worm Eradication ( Group 7 )
Postal 2: Guinea Worm Eradication (Group 7):
The condition for the commissioning setting was a supposed guinea worm outbreak that has been
reported in three Local Government Areas of Akoko town in Ondo State Nigeria by the State s
Ministry of Health among people aged 6 46 years. Their rationale was based on high density of cases
in Ise, Auga Okemole and Iboropa areas of Akoko local government areas, after WHO had declared
Nigeria free of the infection. Based on continuous surveillance and disease notification, it seems
guinea worm is a WHO s notifiable infectious disease, and Nigeria is a party to it. According to WHO
2000), there is a need for immediate action whenever any WHO notifiable diseases is spotted. Hence a
stakeholders meeting was held with the locals, government officials and community health workers
for immediate Health Needs Assessment. The population profiling data was from national surveys and
hospital records.
Analysis of data was done, the case was prioritized, procurement done, and prompt intervention
followed with full participation of all necessary stakeholders. Effective Monitoring and Evaluation
would be carried out quarterly after implementation: this monitoring and evaluation will be done by
the commissioners themselves.
Strong Points:
Looking at the given scenario, a notifiable disease requires an immediate emergency response, since
there was a good rationale backing their action. The evidence was also strong as the report was from a

Stoppard s The Invention of Love
How familiar must the audience of Stoppard s The Invention of Love be with classical literature and
with classics as a field of study? How does this affect the play s potential audience, and why did
Stoppard choose to do this?
The potential audience of the Invention of Love is limited in the first instance by the fact that it is a
play for the stage. By proxy, the audience will be likely to have some knowledge of classical
literature, as they will have more of a culture of theatre going. There is more of a tradition of classics
amongst those that would have seen the play when it was first shown. Stoppard was a long established
playwright by this time ; hence classical references will be more understood and even expected in a

Yet you will need to be intelligent enough to follow the play in the later case. Stoppard is obviously
try to engage those of the audience with a classical knowledge, by showing that he understands them
and welcomes them in to a closed off area. However, this does not make the play inaccessible to a
modern audience who may have a lesser knowledge of the classics. He either builds on people s
knowledge of classical literature, while at the same time tries to introduce others to the world of
classical studies. He takes the stereotype of a classical scholar to start off the play, but he presents this
stereotype in a simple way so those who have no knowledge are able to understand this world. The
play introduces us to modern scholars at first and then contrasted later in the play we are introduced to
classics in the Victorian era. In the same dialogue, a lost play of Aeschylus is referred to and is also
alluded to later, but the idea of Aeschylus is not. The play is explained but not Aeschylus perpetual
place amongst the three great tragedians, although it is not important to the play as such, but the
audience is given enough to understand that the classicist finds this important. The playwright takes
the character s field of study to show how this very cold, logical classicist is an extremely emotional
poet. It also

Regimental Awards Program recognize Officers, Non commissioned Officer, Soldiers and Civilians
for excellence, within the Engineer Regiment, while emphasizing the military engineer history,
customs and the traditions of the Corp. Several of the awards are named after significant figures with
the Engineer Regiment, the De Fluery, the Itschner, the Van Autreve, and the Sturgis. The others, are
specifically named after the category of the recognized, platoon leader, chief warrant, or civilian. All
Regimental awards are considered supplemental awards, the meaning they are not part of the Official

I touched on the supplemental nature of these awards. In my opinion making these awards
supplemental short changes the recipient, they have displayed superior proficiency and leadership
within the regiment. While they have been officially recognized by the award, it doesn t help them
achieve promotion above their peers, add promotion points to their promotion worksheet, or even give
them an addition ribbon for their rack. The awards are essentially the equivalent of a coin, while you
are being thanked for your superior service, they possess little benefit for the individual toward
promotion. Transitioning the regimental awards to a more official status could make the awards more
prestigious, inspire greater competition for the awards, and help recipients advance within the
regiment. All of these afore mentioned, benefit the Engineer Regiment as a whole, and would help
individuals demonstrating proficiency move through the ranks more rapidly than their

Edo Period
Japan is not only a major economic power, it is one of the most economically developed countries in
the world. Japan s economic development begun between the 12th and 17th century, in a period of
time that the Japanese refer to as the Edo period. Although specific economic structures didn t exist at
the time, the conditions, both socially and politically, set the Japanese up for a later successful
industrialization and modernization. During the Edo period, the ruling government was known as the
bakufu. The bakufu had absolute political power over smaller, local governments, however, they
lacked a consistent economic stance. Therefore, the local governments, known as the han, were
allowed to decide how their people would be taxed, and how administration would work, along with
education, industrialization, and issuing paper currency as long as it was not directly prohibited by the
bakufu. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many peasants worked on farmlands, from which they were usually taxed rice, and although they
were not officially allowed to leave, many relocated to avoid high tax burdens. Agricultural
expansions led to various rebellious acts from farmers who were unhappy with taxes, government
officials, and inflation. The government at the time received funds from the rice tax, a monopoly on
mining, foreign trade, and financial contributions from merchants seeking monopoly and cartel rights.
Due to an increasing economy and the demand of resources from merchants, the government had to
resort to printing a financial currency, which leads to inflation, increase taxes and cut spending.
Towards the end of the Edo period, the bakufu monopolized foreign trade, rendering it impossible for
any Japanese to leave Japan and gain knowledge or trade with other countries. After much
disagreement, the Japanese government decided to reopen trade with diplomatic countries such as the
United States, and the bakufu government was removed from

Essay on The Comparison Between Psychodynamic and...
The Comparison between Psychodynamic and Humanistic Theory
There are very distinct differences between Psychodynamic and Humanistic Counselling but both
ultimately offer the help and guidance to discover why we act the way we do and why we make
certain choices in our lives.
Throughout this essay, I will endeavour to explain those major differences and you will see that
despite these completely different methods of therapy, depending on what the problem maybe, they
can both work very effectively in their own way.
Carl Rogers, born in 1902, was the originator of the Person Centred Approach or Humanistic Theory.
His work was influenced by his experience of being a client and a counsellor (Casemore, 2006) and he
believed a trusting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Perls did not belive in a single particular theory. He thought you should always just go with the flow
and work with what you have and what is happening in the now. He placed great importance on the
client becoming self aware and thus developed the Gestalt theory. This therapy focuses more on
process (what is happening) than content (what is being discussed). The emphasis is on what is being
done, thought and felt at the moment rather than on what was, might be, could be, or should be. Perls
believed in minipulating the client, bringing them out of their comfort zone and challenging them. To
own what you say and do and to be aware of unconscious actions/words.
In the 1950 s Eric Berne began to develop his theories of Transactional Analysis. He said that verbal
communication, particularly face to face, is at the centre of human social relationships and
psychoanalysis.
His starting point was that when two people encounter each other, one of them will speak to the other.
This he called the Transaction Stimulus. The reaction from the other person he called the Transaction
Response.
The person sending the Stimulus is called the Agent. The person who responds is called the
Respondent.
Transactional Analysis became the method of examining the transaction wherein: I do something to
you, and you do something back .
Berne also said that each person is made up of three alter ego states:
Parent This is our ingrained voice of authority,

How Leaders Motivate Employees And Organizations
I. What is the title of your Focus Area?
Organizational Leadership=====================
II. What issue(s) or specific problem(s) do you want to address in your Advanced Project, and why is
that of interest to you?
=====================
I d like to address the problem of how leaders motivate employees in organizations. This is a general
topic which can have a wide range of applicability (and that s part of its appeal to me). But the
problem of employee motivation, and how leaders can stimulate and/or make use of that motivation, is
critical to the success of any organization. A leader can have the perfect plan of action and yet fall
short of meeting their objective simply because they did not know how to generate momentum among
their subordinates in an organization. If I am to find myself in a leadership position this is a problem I
d like to avoid!
=====================
III. What are your expected learning outcomes? =====================
Please articulate at least three different learning outcomes by describing
how the Advanced Project will increase your background knowledge: =====================
The advanced project will give m a solid base of knowledge about how members of an organization
are motivated to complete its various projects (critical projects and otherwise). This knowledge base
will make me more equipped to spot problems in my own style of leadership, as well as in the
organization I try to lead. And spotting such problems is, of course, a

Bystander Effect
The Bystander Effect
Everybody wants to be a hero and to change the world. To make it a better place and make a
difference. So why then in the face of danger do we back down? Why do we just stand by as cruel
things happen to good people. Science has coined this term as the bystander effect. The bystander
effect is defined as, a social psychological phenomenon that refers to cases in which individuals do not
offer any means of help to a victim when other people are present. You can see this effect in full in the
movie, The Hunger Games, as people just stand by and let the killing of innocent children happen year
after year.
Now this might seem like a crazy idea because in you mind if someone really needed help you would
always help. This is not always the case though. In the book, No One Helped : Kitty Genovese, New
York City, and the Myth of Urban Apathy, the author, Marcia Gallo, highlights the events that
happened that lead to the understanding of the event known as the Bystander Effect. It was because of
this event, that the term bystander effect was first used and brought to light not only to the scientific
community but also to the public. March 27, 1964 Kitty Genovese ... Show more content on

And more importantly, why does this happen. Well there are a number of different reasons that this
happens.in the book, Bystander Apathy and the Territorial Imperative, A.R Gillis and John Hagan
highlight the science behind the Bystander Effect. They highlight the finding that one of the reasons
that people fail to get involved is the idea of disorganization; the idea that in high stimuli situations,
such as city life, one s stress is increased and the need to blend in and not cause attention increases.
Another reason that people fail to get involved is because they do not know the other people involved.

Racial Divides in the Last of the Mohicans

7 February 2012
Racial Divides in The Last of the Mohicans Throughout James Fennimore Cooper s novel The Last of
the Mohicans a common theme of interracial friendship and love and the difficulty it takes to
overcome such an obstacle, is shown strongly in the work. In the novel Cooper shows how the
America people of European decent treat those that are native, by showing how negatively they treat
the Native Americans. Chingachgook and Hawkeye have a friendship that is genuine and deep,
bypassing the normal relationship between that of a white man and a Mohican Indian. Interracial love
and romantic relationships are condemned in The Last of the Mohicans, for example when, Cora, the
older daughter of Munro, is approached ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hawkeye and Chingachgook have a stark, stripped human relationship of two men, deeper then the
deeps of sex. (Burt 1). Cooper shows just how deep of a friendship these two men can have looking
past all of the racial boundaries that are in position from the surrounding society. Despite the way
interracial relations between the civilized and the savage were looked down upon Hawkeye and
Chingachgook s relationship continues without any such interference. Cooper makes the relationship
important especially in the times of need, during the battle scenes and while they complete acts that
make it clear that Hawkeye and his group are the protagonists of the story. This is a strong and deep
connection between the two men making a statement for the time period, in which the story is set in.
The constant reoccurrence of Hawkeye and Chingachgook s relationship as friends in the Cooper s
novel shows the power of this symbol. The two men constantly look out for one another s well being,
Chingachgook gives Hawkeye information and reassures him his ear shall drink no lie. (Cooper 32)
simply because they are friends. As the book continues the two men and the bond that is between them
is proven to be deeper then the expectation of the average American community of the time. Through
their dangerous journey they stumble upon much conflict, yet instead of burdening their friendship, it
only builds their relationship as friends. Without one another

Essay on Economic Philosophies
Economic Philosophies
How much should we let the government interfere with our economy? Do we trust the government to
take on the enormous responsibility of caring for our economy? Our economy is a precious thing and
we must take great care of it, for it can make us powerful and prosperous or it could be the demise of
our nation. Three economists Karl Marx, Adam Smith, and John Maynard Keynes all had opposing
views on how much government interference should be present upon the economy. Karl Marx believes
that the government should control the economy. This means that every aspect of the economy is
controlled directly by the government. Marx says that if the government plays no part in the economy,

Adam s idea of society is that each person can do whatever they want to advance themselves and each
person can pursue happiness in whatever fashion they believe to be the best. Technology creates new
and better ways to do things which allows society to grow and become more advanced. Smith says
that new technology creates new jobs by expanding the limits of manufacturing and science. With new
technology people can do things they never could do or even imagine before. Adam Smith says that
the government should stay out of the economy all together. The economy is like a boat it goes up and
down. Smith believed that the economy would fix itself; therefore, the government shouldn t interfere
with the economy. He said one has to have faith because the economy will fix itself. Things may not
be going great right now, but the economy will rise on it s own. The result is graphically represented
as a vertical aggregate supply curve.
John Maynard Keynes believed that it was necessary for the government to intervene in
the economy. He felt the government played an essential part in maintaining the economy and
keep it from going into a depression. The Keynesian view sees the causes of unemployment and
inflation as the failure of certain fundamental economic decisions. Also, product prices and

Throughout the novel, The House on Mango Street Esperanza s negative outlook on herself and her
life slowly improves as she realizes she has a bigger place outside of Mango Street and that her lasting
impact can help influence the lives of others who cannot as easily escape as she. In the chapter, The
House on Mango Street, Esperanza has a very negative and unsatisfied outlook on her life, mainly
centered around her house. She wishes and dreams for a life in which she can live without feeling
ashamed or embarrassed about what neighborhood her house was in. Her parents told her For the time

Bystanders As A Bystander In Joseph Conrad s Heart Of...
In the End, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends (King, n.d.).
King s (n.d.) statement demonstrates the major internal impact bystanders can have on others. As a
matter of fact, most people do not think about the possible long term effects of not standing up for
someone or something. Although it may not seem like a big deal to one person, it could be life
changing to another. Many just consider a bystander to be someone who is present at an incident and
doesn t take action, but there is actually much more to it. The term bystander can be defined as
someone who is present during corruption, does not speak up, and seems not to care about others.
By definition, a bystander must be present during an act of corruption, hence the word. If they are not
present, they do not have the choice to be a bystander or not since they have no idea what happened.
In the novel, Heart of Darkness, Marlow can definitely be considered a bystander, especially since he
was present during the corruption involving the Congo people. For example, Marlow has already been
to the Congo and has seen the terrible events happening to the people there. And this also, said
Marlow suddenly, has been one of the dark places of the earth (Conrad, 1990, p. 5). Despite the
terrible actions against those in the Congo, Marlow decides to go back to try and civilize them in the
midst of all the corruption. Now, a modern day example of being present during an act of

The Turn 2 Foundation and the American Dream
The American Dream is defined as the opportunity for every U.S. citizen to achieve success through
hard work, determination, and initiative. Derek Jeter s Turn 2 Foundation was created to help children
grow safely and successfully into adulthood and become the leaders of our next generation. The Turn
2 Foundation promotes the American Dream to kids and students because the foundation teaches kids
to work hard to achieving their dreams while laying the groundwork to a healthy lifestyle so kids can
succeed and achieve their dreams the right way. The leaders of the Foundation achieve this by hosting

Work hard and never make excuses. (Izaguirre 2). The road to achieving the American Dream is
difficult and long one and Derek Jeter s Turn 2 Foundation promotes all the ideas necessary to doing
it.
The Jeter s Leaders program was designed to promote key principles of the Turn 2 Foundation and
achieve their goals. Some of the Turn 2 Foundation s principles include, morality, being trustworthy,
and leading by example which is preached to the Jeter s Leaders throughout their journey. The goals
that have been developed through the Jeter s leaders include the promotion of a healthy lifestyle,
succeeding academically, and giving the leaders experiences that will help them develop into adults
and professional leaders when they go into college and onwards. This is where the American Dream
plays in because the American Dream is defined as the equal opportunity for every American to
succeed through hard work. Since the Turn 2 Foundation promotes these ideals to the Jeter s Leaders,
they are taught how to succeed later in life. The Jeter s leaders are promoted all of these ideas through
various different projects that give the students an initiative to work hard for their communities and
become better people overall.
The Turn 2 Foundation launches various different events over the year to promote the ideas to help
children. One of these events is the Social Change Project, which was launched at Siena College in

calculated that if contact sports could be made noncontact like flag football. For example there would

Spinoza s Argument for Substance Monism
Topic: Spinoza s argument for substance monism Baruch Spinoza s The Ethics addresses the nature of
God and his role in the universe, yet his dedication to supported rationality leads him to the
unconventional conclusion that God and the very substance of the universe are one and the same.
Spinoza bases his argument in deductive reasoning, which requires the establishment of premises; in
The Ethics, these premises come in the form of definitions and axioms. God in this context is simply
an absolutely infinite being; it is important to note that Spinoza does not unfoundedly argue that God
has sentience or other properties associated with humans (158). However, God indisputably has
substance, which Spinoza initially defines as something that has independent, necessary conception. A
substance has essence, which forms the fundamentals of its existence; essences are interpreted by the
intellect in the form of attributes. Modes are the ways through which an object presents itself through
being; they are the affections of a substance (158). These definitions allow Spinoza to say that his
conclusions necessarily follow from ideas which are true, making his argument supported entirely by
logic. Spinoza begins his argument with a section devoted to a core group of axioms; it is necessary
that the reader accept these as universally true principles in order for that truth to extend into the rest
of his argument. Axioms 1 and 2 state that something in existence can potentially be in

The purpose of this study is to examine different variables that affect athletes who abuse steroids. This
study strives to answer the question How does doping in sports affect all athletes (High school

The Impact of the Industrial Revolution on Western Society
The Industrial Revolution had a significant impact on Western society and the effects were numerous
and mainly positive. The Industrial Revolution began in England in the 1790 s and spread throughout
Europe and eventually to America. The extensive effects of the Industrial Revolution influenced
almost every aspect of daily life and human society in some way. During this time period, widespread
transportation such as railroads became available and important for the movement of goods and
people. Also, new social reforms came about, dealing with critical issues including that of child labor.
In addition, the effects of the revolution resulted in a great improvement in living standards for many
people. Although the positive affects of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

not allowed to work for more than twelve hours a day. The act also set guidelines as to what children
were permitted to do while working. The Mines Act of 1842 set the regulation that no female or boy
under ten years of age was to be employed underground in the mines. The factory acts allowed for a
more modern day pattern of work in which men were expecting to be the main wage earners. The
Industrial Revolution increased the awareness of human rights of women and children, and therefore,
accelerated the process of equality in society.
An additional effect of the Industrial Revolution on Western society was the improvement in living
standards for people. The invention of the steam engine, run by coal, allowed factories to be located in
cities and no longer by water. This resulted in people flocking to these densely populated cities for job
opportunities and in turn, eventually led to bad living conditions for many of the inhabitants. It was
believed filthy living conditions in cities were a chief cause of epidemic diseases such as cholera. In
addition, overcrowded, disease ridden slums were viewed as dangerous to physical health, moral

Fighting computer addiction in kids
(The Philippine Star)
November 28, 2010
MANILA, Philippines The computer may have made life easier and tasks faster. But like all good
things, it can be abused and lead to addiction, especially in children.
They can be so obsessed with computers they no longer have room for ordinary routines in daily life.
Computer addicts run the gamut of video and online game players, viewers of Internet pornography,
people in chat rooms, those who always check their email, download music files, engage in illicit
affairs through the Net, online gamblers and others.
Computer addiction brings mood swings, withdrawal from family and friends, sleep deprivation, poor

Time for hobbies, rest, reflection, exercise, socialization, or for quiet and peace. In short we have
disturbed regular time management the way our predecessor in pre computer time made use of 24
hour cycle so with 30 day monthly cycle and longer. In short, the computer has not only reset, but
tinkered with, the biological clock. What does this mean? We do not follow our regular sleeping habit,
because the computer demands no strict time limit or schedule. Imagine also that a favorite program
on TV is on the computer, especially DVD programs. Computer addicts may become night owls.
Others have developed cat napping which can compensate partly lost sleep. Not following regular
sleeping habits may lead to insomnia. Many drugs today are for insomniacs. Abuse of sleeping pills is
reminiscent of some prominent victims; among them was Marilyn Monroe who died of overdose. The
ever increasing features of the computer making today s state of the art in computer shades the 1960

intelligence like dealing with a university professor, and a genius at that. Already chess games with the

Napoleon Bonaparte on land, and Horatius Nelson at sea. The computer does not only trace the

What Does The Glass Slipper Symbolize In Cinderella
In the Old Italian folk tale Cinderella by Giambattista Basile, Cinderella finds that with patience
everything eventually comes together. After Cinderella s father s untimely death, she had no other
option but to live with her evil stepmother and her horrid stepsisters. Cinderella was mistreated and
made to do chores around the house by her stepmother because she could not bear the good qualities
of this pretty girl, and the less because they made her own daughters appear the more odious
(Perrault). She was envied so much Cinderella was not allowed to attend the ball that was made
specifically for the prince to find his princess. With the help of her fairy godmother she was able to
attend the ball and wore the most beautiful dress along with glass slippers. With one dance the prince
had fallen in love, but their moment of happiness was short lived because Cinderella had to flee from
the ball leaving only her glass slipper behind. In this fairy tale, the glass slipper is seen as just this
beautiful and rare shoe but actually symbolizes purity and uniqueness. ... Show more content on

Into The Wild Personal Response
Into the Wild a story that gave a life event and a deranged experience. I personally believe no one
would want to experience what Mcandless went through ever. Unless of course they like to be lonely
like sir and have freedom. like McCandless himself. Even then I would still think people out in this
world would not want to live what he went through, So frightened to know you prefer being alone
with no ones help. To come to think that freedom does exist and you ll have it one day but, will you
really?
McCandless was a tough soldier went through tough times but to him it was all an experience and as
far as we know might ve enjoyed every little moment he spent out in the wild. I guess it is true when
they say God gives his toughest wars to his toughest soldiers Mcandless was one hell of a soldier. ...

sometimes we have to think twice before we take action. In Chris s case actions were not taking he

young adults don t acknowledge the purpose of life we take it for granted. It s crazy but almost
nobody acknowledges the purpose of life. Which is why I wonder , is it because we don t know the
purpose or we just tend to have fun within our lives. Sometimes that fun is out of control and isn t the
right path. Sometimes it leads to bad habits, bad reputation, or even worse death. Who wants death to

Theme Of Alienation In Brave New World
Brave New World is a novel written by Aldous Huxley which takes place in 2540 AD London and
depicts a utopian future, where humans are bred genetically and influenced from birth to serve.
Throughout the novel Huxley uses exile and alienation to express his feelings towards life in the so
called Brave New World . The Palestinian American literary theorist Edward Said has described exile
as strangely compelling to think about but terrible to experience. It is the unhealable rift forced
between a human being and a native place, between self and its true home: its essential sadness can
never be surmounted. Said has also said that exile can become a potent, even enriching experience .
One of the characters who experiences such exile is John the Savage. John is in a tough place
throughout the book. When he is with the savages he is alienated due to his complexion and the fact
that his mother, Linda, is not liked due to her promiscuous acts with the men in the tribe. But when
John is brought back to society he is torn between conforming to society and staying true to his
beliefs. John is the only character who has a real birth mother and thus represents something unique
although frowned upon in society and therefore being different he is unable to fit into the savage
society. This becomes evident when he is denied the rites of passage and is unable to give his life
through ceremonies to the society. On page 136 John is ripped out of the ranks of the other boys and is

Unbroken is a non fiction book that tells the life story of Louie Zamperini, an Italian from Torrance,
California. As a boy, Louie is the town troublemaker until his older brother, Pete, decides it s time to
guide him in the right direction. To do this, Pete makes Louie go out for the track team and personally
coaches him. Throughout the years, Louie wins more and more races and eventually qualifies for the
Olympics. However, they were unfortunately canceled and Louie signed up for the military as a
member of the Air Corps. One day, his air team was assigned a rescue mission. When they were out
over the water, their plane wrecked with only three survivors: Louie, Mac, and Phil. After many days,
they eventually made it to shore with only Louie and Phil still alive. However, the land they made it to
was the enemy s land, and they immediately became prisoners. They were later transferred to separate
camps where they each were tortured in many ways. When the war ended, they were released from the
camps and sent back home. Louie devoted the rest of his life to God, and came to understand the
importance of religion. The purpose of Unbroken is to show how important faith is and that it affects
everyone. Also, it shows how much a person s faith can change and benefit their life. The author wrote

Lydia Kennell Research Paper
Tell me about the olden days, Lydia Kennell was often asked by her grandchildren. Born as Lydia
Kauffman on August 30, 1932, she was born and raised as a Mennonite in Belleville, Pennsylvania on
a dairy farm. After marrying Marvin Kennell on October 22, 1961, Lydia moved with Marvin to his
hometown of Roanoke, Illinois where they lived for fifty six years until recently moving to the Eureka
AC Home. Lydia and Marvin had two children, Betty and Bryant, while accumulating seven
grandchildren and six great grandchildren. When asked about the olden days, Lydia always makes sure
to mention her home back in Pennsylvania. The good days, Lydia would recall when thinking of

Ever since her and Marvin had a grandchild, there always seemed to be a grandkid over every
weekend. It was always a treat for one of the kids to stay with Marvin and Lydia. When over, the
grandkids would always go into town in Roanoke and visit all the businesses. For more fun, the
grandkids would always play many games of Uno with their grandparents. The grandkids always
enjoyed playing with the dogs and cats at the farm, too. Lydia stills remembers walking out into the
breezeway of her house and seeing the grandkids playing with the dogs inside rather than outside. A
big yearly event would be when Marvin and Lydia would take their grandkids to Bloomington Normal
to see the Christmas lights and Santa. The grandkids would usually take a little bit of persuasion, but
eventually sit on Santa. School functions and sporting events of the grandchildren also always held
Marvin and Lydia in attendance. A big signature of Marvin was to always be handing out candy.
Marvin s philosophy was that as long as the kid had teeth, he could eat candy, a little sugar never
killed nobody. After Marvin s passing in 2005, Lydia made sure to carry on the tradition her husband
had started and always pass out candy to every young child she saw. No matter what has happened in
Lydia s life, she has constantly made an effort to value her grandchildren and put them near the

My Personal Classroom Management Philosophy
A classroom philosophy is fundamental for an effective educator, for not only does it set up one s
classroom but it also sets up the type of teacher that one wants to be. A classroom philosophy dictates
everything from discipline to the way one presents information. It is the driving force in a teacher s
classroom and is often times directly related as to why that teacher wants to teach. Due to its
importance, it is critical to examine a multitude of different philosophies before crafting one s own.
After a semester of examining a variety of different classroom management philosophies, I personally
have development my own philosophy as to how I wish to run my classroom. For my classroom
philosophy I have drawn methods from three classroom management gurus, however, it is rooted in
two simple ideals. My personal classroom management philosophy is that it is the teacher s
responsibility to create a classroom that prepares students for the real world and promotes a love of
learning and curiosity. There are several reasons as to why my main focuses are on having my
classroom prepare students for the real world and to promote a love of learning, these reasons can be
found through the philosophies in which have inspired this view. The first philosophy that I personally
drew part of my philosophy from was Alfie Kohn s philosophy of classroom management. Alfie Kohn
s philosophy is rooted in the idea of logical consequences (Alfie, 1996) I personally really related to

Cardiac Arrests Of Children, And Opening The Reality Of...
Abstract Almost everyone who works in EMS has this one thing in common, the fear of the pediatric
call. Due to those calls being few and far between, the skills needed for a pediatric call are rarely at
their best. There are also some who don t keep their pediatric skills as sharp as others, because of the
low amount of calls they might run on kids. This paper will be focusing on cardiac arrests in children,
and opening the reality of how common it is becoming. Everything from what causes it, what is the
most common cause, and the unexplainable. The what s, how s and whys are all questions that we will
be expected to know. There is so much that goes into these patients, physically and mentally. Knowing
these things and understanding how to handle these situations is just as important as knowing the
information for a registry test. In almost most of these incidents the family doesn t care how much you
know, they care about how much you care. Cardiac Arrests in Children We have heard it more than
once, the high school football player who has never had a health issue in his life, playing on a chilly,
friday night, collapses in the middle of the game. The player dies instantly. What was the cause, why
did it happen, and how can it be prevented are all common questions that friends, family and the
strangers that share the story on facebook, are all asking. As an autopsy is finished it is concluded that
the young athlete died of a heart abnormality that was never

  • 2. Why America Needs To Change America Merika, land of the free and home of the brave. America is one of the strongest countries in the world, even though we only have the second largest military. I think America needs to change. America needs to change because we need a bigger punishment for rapists and murderers, we need better gun control, and we need a stronger military. First, America needs to change the way we punish rapists and murderers. I think we need to give rapists and murderers a longer or harsher punishment. The way we punish rapists and murderers is too easy for what they did to their victims. Murderers should have the same things happen to them as what they did to their victims. Rapists should have life time in jail. America would be a better country ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Millions Danny Hales Essay In the film, Millions, directed by Danny Boyle, a compelling character who intrigues me is the antagonistic Anthony Cunningham. I find his complex character interesting as he is still grieving for his mother s tragic death whilst managing to use her death to his advantage. Also, his way of thinking and dealing with the money is very different to from many other kids his age would do. His way of thinking has a powerful awareness of right from wrong but throughout the movie he gets it jumbled up a bit... The film is set during the changing of all European currencies to a single currency the Euro. Due to this, we can see that money is going to take a significant role in the film. Anthony (along with his family) are dealing with the repercussion ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Anthony is still struggling within the stages of grief and is trying hard to mask it. The director shows this in the opening scene, the two boys delightedly lay down next to each other after riding their bikes. As the two brothers lay down next to each other, we can see that Damian is wearing a blue shirt which can often be interpreted as sorrow or calmness. While Anthony is wearing a red jacket which is normally deciphered as hatred or anger. However under Anthony s red jacket, we can see that he is also wearing a blue shirt. The director s purpose of doing this is to foreshadow that Anthony is using ignorance to mask his misery and woe. The director shows us that Anthony disguises his sadness with annoyance towards the end of the movie when Damian brings Dorothy into their house. This is shown because we can see Anthony thinking that she is there to replace their mother. Due to this, we see him whispering a angry hushed tone Is that what you want? Her in there with him, instead of Mum? . Personally, this is quite understandable because I know that it is extremely difficult to be going through the stages of grief after someone who is close to you s death. This could link back to my first paragraph Anthony wants to keep a close relationship with Damian by trying to set a good example by moving on. Anthony struggling through the hardships may also be why he is pulled in by tempting money from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Monster Culture Cohen Summary To start off, Jeffrey Jerome Cohen who wrote Monster Culture is Professor of English and Director of the Medieval and Early Modern Studies Institute at the George Washington University in Washington, DC. He is known for researching strange mysterious things that connect to an imaginative mind. He finds interested in monsters, foreigners, queers, inhuman forces. In Jeffrey Cohen s essay Monster Culture Cohen discusses and effectively covers important reasons on how monsters connect with the cultures from which they rise from. I believe that Cohen s theories are valid and that monsters are a good window into a certain culture. Importantly, Cohen s main argument is that monsters are central, he chooses to solve in his paragraphs if monsters are even real after all. Also, his monster theory launches a counter argument, he pushes his readers to either believe in the monster theory or not. The reader would have to choose whether monsters exist and whether to believe or ignore Cohen s argument. Cohen s ideas on monsters are also put together so that the readers can focus on whether or not his claims or valid. For example, the author introduces his first claim by testing the reader s judgments. Doing that brings out the anxiety that pervades not only his essay but also his audience s minds. His first claim he is full of purpose he states, What I propose here is a sketch of a new modus legend (3). By starting with a rather abrupt announcement, he lays out his objective ... • 6. The Pros And Cons Of Gay Marriage In 2012, gay couple David Mullins and Charlie Craig went to Masterpiece Cakeshop in Colorado to purchase a cake for their wedding. Their request was denied by the owner, Jack Phillips, because he is Christian and does not support gay marriage. He sent them away because he believes that since making a cake for a gay wedding goes against his religious beliefs, he doesn t have to make it. The couple felt discriminated because of who they are, and filed civil rights charges against Phillips. David and Charlie say that Phillips shouldn t be able to deny them goods from a public shop just because of their sexual orientation. To this Phillips explains that he would be happy to serve the couple or any LGBT person regular baked goods, such as a birthday cake or cookies, but he refuses to use his talents to create a cake for a religious celebration in which he doesn t support. But is he allowed to do this? According to Phillips he should be protected by the first amendment, freedom of speech. Baking and decorating cakes is his art and a way of expressing himself, and he doesn t in any way want to express an acceptance for something he doesn t agree with. The couple, along with various gay rights groups, don t see this as any kind of excuse for turning down and discriminating customers in a shop open to the public, which should include anyone and everyone. It s a matter of equality, and Charlie and David aren t being treated the same way as others customers, which is unfair. The couple ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A Brief Note On Guinea Worm Eradication ( Group 7 ) Postal 2: Guinea Worm Eradication (Group 7): The condition for the commissioning setting was a supposed guinea worm outbreak that has been reported in three Local Government Areas of Akoko town in Ondo State Nigeria by the State s Ministry of Health among people aged 6 46 years. Their rationale was based on high density of cases in Ise, Auga Okemole and Iboropa areas of Akoko local government areas, after WHO had declared Nigeria free of the infection. Based on continuous surveillance and disease notification, it seems guinea worm is a WHO s notifiable infectious disease, and Nigeria is a party to it. According to WHO 2000), there is a need for immediate action whenever any WHO notifiable diseases is spotted. Hence a stakeholders meeting was held with the locals, government officials and community health workers for immediate Health Needs Assessment. The population profiling data was from national surveys and hospital records. Analysis of data was done, the case was prioritized, procurement done, and prompt intervention followed with full participation of all necessary stakeholders. Effective Monitoring and Evaluation would be carried out quarterly after implementation: this monitoring and evaluation will be done by the commissioners themselves. Strong Points: Looking at the given scenario, a notifiable disease requires an immediate emergency response, since there was a good rationale backing their action. • 8. Stoppard s The Invention of Love How familiar must the audience of Stoppard s The Invention of Love be with classical literature and with classics as a field of study? How does this affect the play s potential audience, and why did Stoppard choose to do this? The potential audience of the Invention of Love is limited in the first instance by the fact that it is a play for the stage. By proxy, the audience will be likely to have some knowledge of classical literature, as they will have more of a culture of theatre going. There is more of a tradition of classics amongst those that would have seen the play when it was first shown. Yet you will need to be intelligent enough to follow the play in the later case. Stoppard is obviously try to engage those of the audience with a classical knowledge, by showing that he understands them and welcomes them in to a closed off area. However, this does not make the play inaccessible to a modern audience who may have a lesser knowledge of the classics. He either builds on people s knowledge of classical literature, while at the same time tries to introduce others to the world of classical studies. He takes the stereotype of a classical scholar to start off the play, but he presents this stereotype in a simple way so those who have no knowledge are able to understand this world. The play introduces us to modern scholars at first and then contrasted later in the play we are introduced to classics in the Victorian era. Several of the awards are named after significant figures with the Engineer Regiment, the De Fluery, the Itschner, the Van Autreve, and the Sturgis. In my opinion making these awards supplemental short changes the recipient, they have displayed superior proficiency and leadership within the regiment. While they have been officially recognized by the award, it doesn t help them achieve promotion above their peers, add promotion points to their promotion worksheet, or even give them an addition ribbon for their rack. The awards are essentially the equivalent of a coin, while you are being thanked for your superior service, they possess little benefit for the individual toward promotion. Transitioning the regimental awards to a more official status could make the awards more prestigious, inspire greater competition for the awards, and help recipients advance within the regiment. Japan s economic development begun between the 12th and 17th century, in a period of time that the Japanese refer to as the Edo period. Although specific economic structures didn t exist at the time, the conditions, both socially and politically, set the Japanese up for a later successful industrialization and modernization. During the Edo period, the ruling government was known as the bakufu. The bakufu had absolute political power over smaller, local governments, however, they lacked a consistent economic stance. Therefore, the local governments, known as the han, were allowed to decide how their people would be taxed, and how administration would work, along with education, industrialization, and issuing paper currency as long as it was not directly prohibited by the bakufu. ... Many peasants worked on farmlands, from which they were usually taxed rice, and although they were not officially allowed to leave, many relocated to avoid high tax burdens. Agricultural expansions led to various rebellious acts from farmers who were unhappy with taxes, government officials, and inflation. The government at the time received funds from the rice tax, a monopoly on mining, foreign trade, and financial contributions from merchants seeking monopoly and cartel rights. Due to an increasing economy and the demand of resources from merchants, the government had to resort to printing a financial currency, which leads to inflation, increase taxes and cut spending. Towards the end of the Edo period, the bakufu monopolized foreign trade, rendering it impossible for any Japanese to leave Japan and gain knowledge or trade with other countries. After much disagreement, the Japanese government decided to reopen trade with diplomatic countries such as the United States, and the bakufu government was removed from ... The Comparison between Psychodynamic and Humanistic Theory There are very distinct differences between Psychodynamic and Humanistic Counselling but both ultimately offer the help and guidance to discover why we act the way we do and why we make certain choices in our lives. Throughout this essay, I will endeavour to explain those major differences and you will see that despite these completely different methods of therapy, depending on what the problem maybe, they can both work very effectively in their own way. Carl Rogers, born in 1902, was the originator of the Person Centred Approach or Humanistic Theory. His work was influenced by his experience of being a client and a counsellor (Casemore, 2006) and he believed a trusting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Perls did not belive in a single particular theory. He thought you should always just go with the flow and work with what you have and what is happening in the now. He placed great importance on the client becoming self aware and thus developed the Gestalt theory. This therapy focuses more on process (what is happening) than content (what is being discussed). The emphasis is on what is being done, thought and felt at the moment rather than on what was, might be, could be, or should be. Perls believed in minipulating the client, bringing them out of their comfort zone and challenging them. To own what you say and do and to be aware of unconscious actions/words. In the 1950 s Eric Berne began to develop his theories of Transactional Analysis. He said that verbal communication, particularly face to face, is at the centre of human social relationships and psychoanalysis. His starting point was that when two people encounter each other, one of them will speak to the other. This he called the Transaction Stimulus. The reaction from the other person he called the Transaction Response. The person sending the Stimulus is called the Agent. The person who responds is called the Respondent. Transactional Analysis became the method of examining the transaction wherein: I do something to you, and you do something back . • 12. How Leaders Motivate Employees And Organizations I. What is the title of your Focus Area? Organizational Leadership===================== II. What issue(s) or specific problem(s) do you want to address in your Advanced Project, and why is that of interest to you? ===================== I d like to address the problem of how leaders motivate employees in organizations. This is a general topic which can have a wide range of applicability (and that s part of its appeal to me). But the problem of employee motivation, and how leaders can stimulate and/or make use of that motivation, is critical to the success of any organization. A leader can have the perfect plan of action and yet fall short of meeting their objective simply because they did not know how to generate momentum among their subordinates in an organization. If I am to find myself in a leadership position this is a problem I d like to avoid! ===================== III. What are your expected learning outcomes? ===================== Please articulate at least three different learning outcomes by describing how the Advanced Project will increase your background knowledge: ===================== The advanced project will give m a solid base of knowledge about how members of an organization are motivated to complete its various projects (critical projects and otherwise). This knowledge base will make me more equipped to spot problems in my own style of leadership, as well as in the organization I try to lead. And spotting such problems is, of course, a ... Why do we just stand by as cruel things happen to good people. Science has coined this term as the bystander effect. The bystander effect is defined as, a social psychological phenomenon that refers to cases in which individuals do not offer any means of help to a victim when other people are present. You can see this effect in full in the movie, The Hunger Games, as people just stand by and let the killing of innocent children happen year after year. King s (n.d.) statement demonstrates the major internal impact bystanders can have on others. As a matter of fact, most people do not think about the possible long term effects of not standing up for someone or something. Although it may not seem like a big deal to one person, it could be life changing to another. Many just consider a bystander to be someone who is present at an incident and doesn t take action, but there is actually much more to it. The term bystander can be defined as someone who is present during corruption, does not speak up, and seems not to care about others. By definition, a bystander must be present during an act of corruption, hence the word. If they are not present, they do not have the choice to be a bystander or not since they have no idea what happened. In the novel, Heart of Darkness, Marlow can definitely be considered a bystander, especially since he was present during the corruption involving the Congo people. For example, Marlow has already been to the Congo and has seen the terrible events happening to the people there. And this also, said Marlow suddenly, has been one of the dark places of the earth (Conrad, 1990, p. 5). • 23. Spinoza s Argument for Substance Monism Topic: Spinoza s argument for substance monism Baruch Spinoza s The Ethics addresses the nature of God and his role in the universe, yet his dedication to supported rationality leads him to the unconventional conclusion that God and the very substance of the universe are one and the same. Spinoza bases his argument in deductive reasoning, which requires the establishment of premises; in The Ethics, these premises come in the form of definitions and axioms. God in this context is simply an absolutely infinite being; it is important to note that Spinoza does not unfoundedly argue that God has sentience or other properties associated with humans (158). However, God indisputably has substance, which Spinoza initially defines as something that has independent, necessary conception. A substance has essence, which forms the fundamentals of its existence; essences are interpreted by the intellect in the form of attributes. Modes are the ways through which an object presents itself through being; they are the affections of a substance (158). These definitions allow Spinoza to say that his conclusions necessarily follow from ideas which are true, making his argument supported entirely by logic. Spinoza begins his argument with a section devoted to a core group of axioms; it is necessary that the reader accept these as universally true principles in order for that truth to extend into the rest of his argument. Theme Of Alienation In Brave New World Brave New World is a novel written by Aldous Huxley which takes place in 2540 AD London and depicts a utopian future, where humans are bred genetically and influenced from birth to serve. Throughout the novel Huxley uses exile and alienation to express his feelings towards life in the so called Brave New World . The Palestinian American literary theorist Edward Said has described exile as strangely compelling to think about but terrible to experience. It is the unhealable rift forced between a human being and a native place, between self and its true home: its essential sadness can never be surmounted. Said has also said that exile can become a potent, even enriching experience . One of the characters who experiences such exile is John the Savage. John is in a tough place throughout the book. When he is with the savages he is alienated due to his complexion and the fact that his mother, Linda, is not liked due to her promiscuous acts with the men in the tribe.
