The Importance of Education in The Republic by Plato
The great philosopher Plato, speaking through the character of Socrates in his book The Republic,
holds the belief that true and good education is what leads civilizations to prosper. Due to this, he is
very concerned with the issue of education and how it will be addressed in the state that he and his
fellow companions hope to design and build. He talks about how important education is in achieving
this idea of justice and morality. Furthermore, I believe that many of the concepts he brings about
relating to this subject are still very valid today and can be applied worldwide. Plato believes that
education is necessary for the rulers of cities to be effective and that it is the only way to truly
understand and achieve the goal of providing and looking out for the citizens of any state. One of the
reasons Plato finds education such a necessity and regards it so highly is that it is required to even
understand the concept of true justice and being able to distinguish it from injustice. Now although the
major point of this book is to establish a meaning for justice, he believes that education is key and it is
clear that all the people he associates with in the story are well educated high members of society.
Having knowledge on this subject and many others will allow those that eventually become guardians
to tell when something is not just or is at least not beneficial for the well being of the citizens.
Education is also a major factor in understanding the soul and the

English Bill Of Rights
The Bill of Rights is a formal declaration of the legal and civil rights of the citizens. Also known as
the first ten amendments of the constitution, ratified in 1791 and offering freedoms like speech,
assembly, and worship. Originally, the Bill of Rights were proposed by James Madison and they then
became the law of the land. The purpose of the Bill of Rights was a statement of basic individual
freedoms that refrain from the English Bill of Rights passed in 1689. A century later, 7 out of the 13 of
the newly independent United States of America adopted a bill of rights as an addition to their state
constitutions, the other 6 states continued using the English bill of rights in the bodies of their
constitutions. Virginia is historically known

Inca Civil War Research Paper
Ariel Durant wrote, A great civilization is not conquered from without until it has destroyed itself from
within. The Inca Civil War was the beginning of the downfall of the largest civilization in the
Americas. The Inca Civil War lasted from 1529 until April 1532 in Peru and Ecuador. The
administrative, political, and military center of the empire was located in Cuzco (modern day Peru).
The Inca civilization arose from the highlands of Peru sometime in the early 13th century. The Incas
had no written language. Most of what is known about the Incas come from artifacts and the
Spaniards. The Inca Civil War was a war between two brothers, Huascar and Atahualpa, that took
place after their father Huayna Capac. Huascar and Atahualpa both doomed suitable for the succession
of the Inca Empire so, the war began. The Inca Civil War was a conflict that divided a civilization,
resulted in significant changes that made the empire more vulnerable and caused the downfall of the
Inca civilization.
II. Origin, Lifestyle, and Religion
Origin
The Inca Empire was short lived. It lasted just shy of 100 years due to the collapse of the empire in
1532. There are many legends and myths about how the Incas came to be. According to one legend,

Cajamarca and tried, but failed, to peacefully gain loyalty from Huascar s men. This then resulted is
Atahualpa to become very violent, murdering in large numbers, which resulted in Huascar s men
surrendering. Atahualpa s army pushed south winning more and more battles. Huascar attempted to

Donald Trump Propaganda
As a civilization, trends come and go, what people perceived as cool back then like wearing parachute
pants may not seem so likely today. These trends blow up and die out as quickly as they come, but to
become the kid who fit in you had to follow these trends. What causes these uproars in popularity are
propaganda or campaigns that outline the subject in a positive or negative manner.Lately all across
social media political propaganda has been branding Donald Trump an anti hero, and a degenerate, but
can this propaganda backfire in a way that is good for Donald Trump? Is this free publicity in favor of
him?

More than any other candidate, Trump has understood how deeply rooted these feelings have become
and he has successfully built an entire campaign around them. If Democrats think they will have an
easy time stopping him in the fall, they might want to take a closer look at the characters who have
been attracting the masses in recent years. I feel as though Zelizer s opinion upon the situation is
partially right, but I believe Trump has gained the population s vote, and has sustained loyal members
of his political party, by being a truthful candidate. Unlike other candidate s Trump speaks the cold
hard truth most of the time, whereas other people like Hillary Clinton fluff up the truth not exposing
how critical situations have become in the world. In this case trump is the anti hero and Hillary is the
hero, people don t want to live in a fictionalized world made up of lies promised by the candidate, they
want the real world and action done now, and they know Trump is going to be a dynamic character if

The Problem Of Poverty Of Homelessness
Poverty
WHAT I ALREADY KNOW/WHY THIS TOPIC
Down my building street, a homeless lives there. I always wonder what brought him here. What was
his previous occupation before living down the street and annoying everyone else. Questions started to
rise. Are they really homeless? poor? or faking it up to attract people s attention? I had an experience
that made these questions rise weirdly. One day, I was sitting in Starbucks, located in Cary street
beside Chili s and I saw the homeless that howl beside my home sitting there and charging his brand
new Samsung Galaxy phone and began to text. I was shocked because what I saw is not how homeless
should be. Another question rose again, which is, why would he buy a phone with an internet in it. He
could buy food for that money.
RESULT OF THE RESEARCH After that incident, I started to surf the internet look for an answer. If
we do research and discover the situation of homelessness, we will learn that there are many reasons.
There are many reasons why does homeless exists. One of those reasons is mental health illnesses.
Think about it! Having a kid with a mental issue is a small problem and can be help tightly, but when
that kid gets older he/she could be unbearable and living with that person is impossible. From that
moments parents ignore that person and sometimes leave him/her alone in a park or even the street.
This is one reason why homeless tend to increase over time. Another reason is that homeless tend to
own homes and lives,

Definitions of Self In Community in Sula and Song of Solomon
In that place, where they tore the nightshade and blackberry patches from their roots to make room for
the Medallion City Golf Course, there once was a neighborhood (Sula 1). Toni Morrison begins the
novel Sula with these powerful words, describing more than a physical place, but a spiritual place
where a community once stood. She begins with the destruction of the community, ultimately
beginning at the end because her novel traces the history of this community. In Song of Solomon.
Morrison takes the opposite path. She traces the history of self that ultimately ends in a type of
destruction when Milkman leaps off the cliff. In both novels, however, she explores the ... Show more

The details of everyday life that Morrison gives calls the community out of the image of destruction as
Morrison begins her journey to reclaim this community. She begins her reclamation by reminding the
readers that these are not abstract geographical places that are being destroyed, but rather gathering
places for a community made up of unique individuals. Morrison doesn t allow this community to be
faceless and she doesn t allow the reader to witness its destruction without feeling the loss of more

Roberta Rubenstein says in Pariahs and Community , The community of of the Bottom, in a northern

Cultural Influence Of The Early Medieval Era
Exam 2: Cultural Influence One prominent theme that has been encountered throughout this course
has been the idea of influence from one culture to another; a cultures influence on another can impact
things such as stylistic transition, and transfer of subject matter. The combination of local traditions
and newly introduced ideas will allow for new types of artwork to be produced. Artwork during the
Early Medieval era, Romanesque era, and Gothic era demonstrates how local and imported ideas
intermingle to produce new things. In order to fully express the idea of cultures integrating local ideas
with ideas of other cultures to form new artworks, focusing specifically on architecture will allow for
the theme to be fully justified. During the dynamic Early Medieval era, which dates back to 500 1000
BCE, European identity was developed and stimulated by Europeans interactions with other cultures
in Eurasia and the Mediterranean. During the Early Medieval era early Christian basilicas such as
Santa Sabina and San Paolo fuori le Mura (St. Paul s Outside the Walls) maintained the basic structure
of the Roman basilica, and incorporated local ideas, which include added Christian elements such as
the transept and the ambo. The Romanesque era is the art of Europe from approximately 1000 AD to
the rise of the Gothic style in the 13th century. Romanesque architecture retained many basic features
of Roman architectural style, which include round headed arches, vaults, apses, and

Each of these steps are explained below or in the Glossary. Now you are ready to start your Model T.
If you have an electric starter (congratulations) the starter button will usually be on the floor by your
left heel. You will want to pull the Choke/Primer knob on the dash out and press your heel on the
starter button. As soon as the engine fires, let go of the Choke and take your heel off the starter button.
Reach up with your right hand and pull the Throttle arm down about ½ way and at the same time with

do so may jam an electric starter but with a hand crank, a possible backfire could result in serious
injury to your hand or arm. If the car engine is cold, you should turn the key to the straight up position
(off). Go to the front of the car and pull the Choke/Primer out (usually a small wire ring in the left
lower corner of the radiator) while with your right hand, crank the engine a couple of quarter turns.
You ll have to push the crank in (toward the motor) as you turn the crank and you will feel it lock into
the ratchet. Now, go turn the key to the left (counterclockwise) and go back to the front of the engine.
NOW WITH YOUR LEFT HAND CUPPED engage the crank again and pull the crank up. Don t push
it down and don t put your thumb over the crank handle. These are safety precautions in the event the
engine kicks back. If the engine doesn t catch the first time turn the crank backward
(counterclockwise) and re engage the crank so you are always pulling up. Repeat this until the engine
starts. If after several attempts the engine doesn t start. Go back and turn the key off and repeat the
process. Once the engine catches, quickly go to the steering wheel and pull the spark (left side arm)

Precambrian Time Research Paper
Evolution is a very controversial topic between believers and non believers. Christians believe that the
Earth was created by God, and it is a few thousand years old. Non believers believe in the Big Bang
Theory. The earth is very complex and because of that, we like to study its past. There are three main
eras. The three eras are the Paleozoic era, Mesozoic era, and the Cenozoic era. There is also a time
which is everything before the eras and it is called Precambrian time. Precambrian time did not have
any organisms except for some complex life forms that began to come about nearer to the end of the
time. Precambrian time was about 4 billion years long. After that, the Paleozoic era began. The
Paleozoic was about 295 years long and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Christians believe that God created the world and that the world is a few thousand years old. We
believe that the old worldview is wrong and that the world was not created from an atom exploding.
We can respond with saying that we don t know how the first atom became of and that how could
humans with feelings and a soul evolve from just one atom. Only God could make the world like it is
and make us humans so complex. Christians can ask questions like, Who put the first atom that
exploded there? or, If cells can only come from other living cells, then how could there be the first cell
without God? This is a very difficult question for people who are not Christians because this violateds
the 3rd rule of cell theory. Only God could make humans have a soul and feelings. Christians believe
in the new worldview because God created the world and everything in it. The world was without sin,
but sin was introduced when Adam and Eve ate from the tree. This is when death, sickness, and sin
came into the world. There was a flood to wipe the Earth of the evil on it. God warned Noah about the
flood and told him to build an ark and put two of each animal on it. Next, there was the Tower of
Babel which is when there became different races. There is only one species of humans but different
races. There are different races because when the languages were mixed up the people spread out and

It was as if an internal force had taken over him, shutting down his rebelliousness and aspiration to
make a statement, but why? Phillip s ambivalence thoughts both confused and tormented him as he
remembered his dream in which he had the other day. Who were those men he saw in it? He knew
after having the dream that it wasn t the first time he had seen them, that was for certain. They were
both there in the vision he had back when he had become debilitated, falling unconscious in the local
park, but who were they? Where was he when he found himself in that weird tube like contraption he
had emerged from? What was that gigantic facility that held everyone captive, and who were the other
people locked away in the tubes? All questions that continuously mockingly danced around in Phillip s
head as he sat on his bed staring off into a void, but he had no answers for any of them. His answers
laid on the other side. With that other world. With the volunteers if that s who those men truly were, an
ever growing suspicion. But, that other world was a million miles away, and the only doorway to it
was in either becoming sick or be called home. Nobody had ever come back after being called home,
though. Phillip was pretty sure of that. At least, he had never heard of such a thing happening. In his
mind, he was positive that being called home was some form of death or what was death before the
volunteers arrival. People had always died.

home. Whist i was reading the extract from the care quality commission report i picked up on a
number of hazards that could potentially cause harm to individuals in the home.
As the inspector approached the building, he rung the door bell and it didn t work, this is a potential
hazard because the staff wouldn t know if there was anyone there to see their family or friends, its also
bad because in this care, someone important was arriving. The main door was also unlocked and there
wasn t anyone on the reception, these are big hazards because anyone can get access into the building
and could seriously physically harm anyone in the building.
When they began their inspection, they started with the clients bedrooms and there was a waste paper

States in the Uncertainty Avoidance dimension. In the United States we do not like change, but in Italy
it is something they thrive on. When it comes to the Long and Short Term Orientation, both Italy and
the United States are low. Italy leads by a slight percentage. Both countries have a short term when it
comes to business planning. These cultural differences are not extreme. This does not seem like a big
enough threat for the Fiat Chrysler alliance or merger. In many ways Italy and the United States
appear to be similar countries. In many ways they are different too. Fiat and Chrysler still have to be
cautious of even the smallest cultural difference because it can be the difference between success and
failure.
III. Internal Environment The internal environment is important to all businesses as it directly makes
impacts on the business. These factors can include resources, management values, stakeholder goals,
strategy, corporate culture, employees, and capabilities. Fiat and Chrysler respectively have strengths

However, African Americans and especially African American women have been marginalized in

The Lion and the Ox Essay
Omar Malas AAPTIS 381 Professor Legassick Kalila wa Dimna The Lion and the Ox is a one of the
oldest and most popular pieces of classic Arabic literature. Originally from India, this animal fable is
famous for its inclusion of many other animal fables, each of which help provide the characters of the
story with advice regarding their situation. Unlike The Arabian Nights, which also uses a frame tale
that contains each tale, multiple animals share their wisdom with one another. The wisdom of the story
s two main characters, Kalila and Dimna, help foreshadow and motivate the events of the frame tale
and bring it to a reasonable yet tragic conclusion. Kalila, one of the two main jackals of the frame tale,

Approaching Kalila after this initial failure, Dimna explains his new plan to destroy the ox using a
parable within a parable: the story of the heron and the crab within the story of the raven and the
snake. A snake has made it a habit of eating the raven s eggs every time one is laid. The raven
complains to it to stop, but to no avail. When the raven complains to the jackal of its problem and how
it hopes to solve the problem by clawing the snakes eyes out, the jackal tells her the parable of the
heron and the crab. Briefly, the old heron uses the innocent crab to trick the fish by claiming that the
fishermen are coming to wipe them out and that he can help them by each day carrying them to a pool
where they will be safe. The fish agree to the heron s trick. The heron carries a few fish away each
day, but as soon as he is out of the sight of the other fish, he eats them. One day when the crab wants
to be taken to the pool, he sees all the fish bones and realizes what has been happening. The crab then
attacks the heron, pinching its throat and killing it. The moral to this story, explains the jackal, is
sometimes people destroy themselves by their own craft and cunning if they are not careful (Arberry
92). This story helps foreshadows the fact that there is great risk for Dimna if he tries to destroy the
ox, but that this risk is worth the effort as long as he doesn t become too invested. Upon hearing this
parable,

Comparing Story Of An Hour And The Interlopers
Compare and Contrast Essay
Reading short stories is often enjoyable, as each individual story varies quite a bit from the others.
Although short stories follow a pattern, they have many different themes. Though The Story of an
Hour by Kate Chopin and The Interlopers by Saki seem unrelated at first glance, there are similar
themes in both. The main character in The Story of an Hour is quite fragile and has a weak heart,
making her prone to heart attacks under duress, since she was afflicted with a heart trouble (Chopin).
She feels imprisoned by her husband, although he seems to love her. At the end of the story, she
receives a great shock and her heart fails. At the end of The Interlopers , the two men are trapped and
also supposedly get killed. However, the main characters are both brawny hunters, tough and
weathered. They despise each other, and their families disputed over a thin strip of forest for
generations because of A famous lawsuit, in the days of his grandfather, had wrested it from the illegal

story, such as when she was drinking in a very elixir of life through that open window (Chopin). The

at night, and during a raging storm. Without the trees and the storm, the story would likely be quite
different than it is. Both play crucial roles in the story, along with the wild animals in the forest,
evident in Ulrich s knowledge of a disturbing element in the forest (Saki) because of the creatures

Wierd Noises from Your Body Called Phonology
My research paper is about how your body can make different noises. A person can make weird noises
all day long, but when you add meaning to the sounds they create phonemes. The study of phonemes
is called phonology. Sounds start from the air that we inhale every day. Although we have all those
things that cause it we ,ourselves have to form the sounds that we make with our mouths.
All of those things start from your vocal cords. With your vocal cords you can create words and many
other different sounds. You can create other types of noises with the rest of your body to. The air
pressure comes from your lungs, diaphragm, ribcage, and abdominal muscles. Without enough air
pressure, the rest of the production system for the voice, it shuts down.
Singers and other famous voice users focus on a significant amount of training on control of your
breath support. The portion of vibratory voice production occurs in the voice box or larynx. The
larynx is an organ that is made of paired muscles and cartilages. The thyroid cartilage houses and
holds the vocal cords. It is a large cartilage with the most and superior aspect.
This is more prominent in the male larynx and is often called the Adams Apple. The thyroid cartilage
sits above the cricoid cartilage, which is a signet ring shaped cartilage. Below th cricoids cartilage is
the trachea or windpipe. The subglottis extends from just below the vocal cords to about 1 cm into the
trachea. The hyoid bone is superior to the

characterized by a number of different seditions and the revolutionary tenets that fueled them which
were markedly at variance with social, political, and religious notions that preceded them. As these
three spheres of life often intersect with one another, there is some degree of difficulty in isolating
their specific causes in terms of respective Enlightenment principles. However, history has revealed
that some of the most distinguishable characteristics of this historical era are its different ideas
regarding the nature of politics and the role of government in ruling over the people, its new regard for
and conception of traditional viewpoints of religion, and a philosophical divergence with the past in
terms of ethics and psychology; a review of the Enlightenment s most notable thinkers (such as
Thomas Hobbes, John Locke, Thomas Jefferson and Benjamin Franklin) readily confirms this thesis.
One of the central tenets of the Enlightenment that profoundly affected the confluence of social,
political and religious aspects of life is the notion that man was endowed with the power to

Francisco Piria Research Paper
Uruguayan Alchemy Uruguay is a secular nation, with a distinct separation between church and state.
As such, touring churches and cathedrals is not an integral part of Uruguayan tourism. Those with an
interest in mysticism, however, will not be disappointed. Introducing Francisco Piria Francisco Piria
was born in 1847 in Montevideo. During his childhood, his family sent him to Genoa, Italy to study
with his uncle, a Jesuit monk. It was in Italy that Piria developed an interest in the mystical arts of
alchemy and Kabbalah. After completing his studies, Piria returned to Montevideo and established
himself as a real estate auctioneer. Piria s Vision While living in Europe, Piria s visits to the French
Riviera created an image of the city he wished to create. His dream city was 62 miles east of
Montevideo. When he looked at the small mountains cascading down toward the sea, he purchased the
2700 parcels of untouched land, and went to work on his new utopia. The city of Piriapolis was born.

Comparing Pride And Prejudice And Our Mutual Friend, By...
During the 19th century, men were the ones who typically proposed to women. However, men did not
solely ask for their hand in marriage, they also had to formulate something to say. In the books Pride
and Prejudice by Jane Austen and Our Mutual Friend by Charles Dickens, there are two men who
decide to propose to someone they take liking in. Those men are William Collins who proposes to
Elizabeth Bennett (Pride and Prejudice) and Bradley Headstone who proposes to Lizzie Hexam.
Although both of the men s proposal resulted in rejection, one of the proposals had better diction than
the other. The ideas such as bringing up [their significant other s] reputation or having true love for
[their significant lover] may indicate to the women they are truly sincere. Due to the time period s
typical romances, there were a limited amount of things a woman and man can do with each other in
public. Specifically, the men and women were not allowed to kiss, go on dates alone, or hold hands.

Cultural Identity Essay Cultural identity is the basis in which identification is used to express different
aspects pertaining to identity and heritage. A person s cultural identity may be created by social

Examine some of the key principles of the argument for the existence of God based upon religious
experiences
Religious experiences are experiences we have of the divine or God. These experiences may be
Mystical experiences, conversion experiences or revelatory experiences. Paul Tillich states that
religious experience is a feeling of ultimate concern , a feeling that demands a decisive decision from
the one receiving it. He describes it as an encounter followed by a special understanding of its
religious significance.
The argument for religious experiences is based on 3 premises. Premise one states that the experience
of X indicates the reality of X. One problem with this premise is that the experience of X does not
always indicate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The problems with premise three can also be highlighted by looking at the religious experience of
Mosses when he saw God in the burning bush. When God came to him, Mosses had just killed a man
and run away into the desert. Therefore he could be experiencing extreme guilt which could cause him
to have an illusion. Also if he is in the desert then he was most likely dehydrated which again could
cause an illusion. Therefore other factors may be used to explain religious experiences.
Another example to support premise three, and one that addresses the problem of the subjective nature
of religious experiences, is corporate religious experiences. This is when large numbers of people all
have the same religious experience at the same time. The fact that they are experienced by many leads
to the fact that they can be objectively tested and the accounts validated adding further support for the
argument.
Those that argue that religious experiences are proof of the existence of God usually argue inductively.
This means that they look at the subjective testimonies of individuals who claim to have had religious
experiences in order to find similar characteristics and then draw the general conclusion that the
experiences can only be explained in terms of the existence of God. For example Swinburne argued
inductively supporting

As someone who has always wanted to understand the Bible better and use scriptures within proper
context, the last six months has really helped me to understand context; how to determine it, and how
to apply it properly. Another important aspect I have learned, specifically via THEO 104, is defense of
the reliability of scripture. Approximately 5000 Greek manuscripts exist, along with an additional
13,000 copies of portions of the New Testament, which stands in stark contrast to no other major

scholars have determined that these manuscripts were copied with at least 95% accuracy (Towns, E.,

something to the effect of Salvation is forgiveness of sin and the path to eternal life, I can discuss the
faith experience, regeneration, and life transformation more in depth, with more accuracy. With all
that I have learned, it is quite impossible to narrow that education down specifically to one area in
which I have acquired knowledge. Overall, I am in awe at how my eyes have been opened wider, and
how my spirit has been spoken to. My worldview has not changed, it has expanded to include deeper

The Burden Of Proof Is The Duty Of A Party
Introduction
The burden of proof is the duty of a party in a trial to produce the evidence that will shift the
conclusion away from the default position, to that party s own position. In a legal dispute, one party is
initially presumed to be correct and gets the benefit of the doubt, while the other side bears the burden
of proof. When a party bearing the burden of proof meets their burden, the burden of proof switches to
the other side. Burdens may be of different kinds for each party, in different phases of litigation.
(Wikipedia, 2017) For all cases, it is the responsibility of the prosecution to prove beyond reasonable
doubt that the defendant is guilty and vice versa for the defense. To start, the prosecution gave their

The applicable code of the prosecution was to prove beyond reasonable doubt rather than just
speculation on the case and learning about what the actual presented evidence consists of.
The reason the O.J. Simpson s case is pivotal in the crimes in the United States of America is the
necessity of the prosecution to prove a case beyond reasonable doubt; the standard that no other
logical explanation can be derived from the facts except that the defendant committed the crime,
thereby overcoming the presumption that a person is innocent until proven guilty (Beyond a
Reasonable Doubt, 2008). Despite being a first degree murder case and a prima facie case, OJ
Simpson s was acquitted. The case came with a high public awareness concerning the prevalence of
domestic violence and difference. Also in the case of Casey; there was an expectation of conviction
due to the first evidence was given by the prosecution.

The defense attorney was more convincing as compared to the prosecution. The attorney directs the

down to a belief the state did not prove its case because it could not prove how Caylee died. Human

Japanese Female Divers Essay
On the other hand, the history of Japanese female divers stretches back far longer than that of the
Koreans. The practice originated at least two thousand years ago, and may have a connection to the
migration of Japanese. As fishermen were moving along the southwest islands of Japan and towards
the main island, women were reported to have collected shellfish and seaweed. Such catches would
provide much needed salt in the diet and some items such as abalone or turbo play a part in religious
ceremonies, and also could be traded for other products. Jewelry could also be made out of the pearls
and abalone shells they collected. The Japanese have a wide variety of diving practices and even wear
different types of clothing depending on the region; such diversity is evidence of free diving as a long

profession. It is significant to note that the male characters for ama, (diver in Japanese) have the
connotation of sea warrior or more appropriately, samurai of the sea. But the female characters for
ama simply mean sea woman, and the term itself is now assumed to refer to females. The difference in

Effects Of Stress In France Comcomlecom
Stress in the Workplace My reaction to the situation with France Telecom is that it is a tragedy, no

job is worth the stress that the employees of France Telecom had to endure, no matter how much
money the employees are making. I also thought, this is an important public/global health issue that
needs to be addressed.
What went wrong at France Telecom?
I believe there are more factors to consider than what was included in this case, but with the
information given, the internal factors were mainly poor management, such as the chairman Didier
Lombard. According to BBC news, Mr. Lombard announced plans to cut 22,000 jobs and move
another 14,000 workers, as France Telecom pushed for greater efficiency in the wake of privatization,
two years earlier. (N/A, 2016) This was the main contributor to the extremely high levels of stress the
employees were under. When deciding to make changes in the organization, the company was using
psychological pressure and pathogenic restructuring that caused the employees immense stress and the
feeling of insecurity in the face of globalization. They felt insignificant to the company and the way
they were pressured and treated created huge role conflict and overload. I believe that it is the

Examples Of Suspense In The Sniper

the sniper uses back to back action to create suspense. One example of this in the story the sniper is
when an armoured car appeared along with an informant, which the sniper kills. Right after this the
sniper gets shot by an enemy sniper across the road. This makes the story suspenseful because the
events are happening rapidly which shows how often danger was evident. The sniper raised his rifle

conditions, with hopefully only the concentration of acid being altered for each experiment.
The equipment should be set up as shown in the diagram below:
The small marble chip will be placed in the conical flask first and then the hydrochloric acid will be

Analysis Of The Movie White Liar By Miranda Lambert
Picking Up the Pieces Picking Up the Pieces is the film being produced to document my life. I have
never put much thought into how my life would be portrayed or even documented. However, as I sit

Lambert because this song represents what I went through during my very tragic divorce. Lambert is
an American country music artist who co wrote this song with Natalie Hemby. The song was released

Lambert sings, Hey white liar, the truth comes out a little at a time and it spreads just like a fire. My

The Shift in Abortion Policy in the 1800s Essay
The Shift in Abortion Policy in the 1800s
In 1800 no jurisdiction in the United Sates had enacted any statutes whatsoever on the subject of
abortion... Yet by 1900 virtually every jurisdiction in the United States had laws upon its books that
proscribed the practice sharply and declared most abortions to be criminal offenses (Mohr p. VII).
Societal Changes from the Early 1800s to the Mid 1800s
During the early 1800s, abortion at the beginning of a pregnancy was neither immoral nor criminal.
Common law held that before quickening, the first perception of fetal movement by the mother,
usually during the second trimester, the fetus was not alive or independent. After quickening abortion

Electricity was also applied to the thighs to induce miscarriage. Samuel Jennings book, The Married
Ladies Companion, targeted rural women. It offered frank advice for women who ?took a common
cold,? the colloquialism for missing a menstrual period. It urged using cathartics like aloe and
calomel, and bleeding from the foot to restore menstruation (Mohr p. 6 7).
In addition, rural women relied on underground networks of communication to spread abortifacient
information by word of mouth (Mohr p. 107). To induce miscarriages, women employed Folk and
Native American herbal abortifacients. The following herbs were most frequently recommended:
black hellebore, savin, aloe, calomel, horehound, madder root, Spanish fly, jalap, scammony, bitter
apple, myrrh, Seneca snakeroot, and black cohosh (Mohr p. 8 12).
Most women who sought abortions during the first decades of the 1800s were young and unmarried.
They aborted their illegitimate pregnancies to preserve their reputation in society and their prospect of
marriage (Mohr p. 16 17). If virginity was the boundary between life as a respectable wife and life as a
prostitute, then women who had become pregnant before marriage had little choice but to abort
(Beisel p. 30). Doctors recognized that abortion would save these women from a life of destitution and
were sympathetic to their plight. While they did not encourage abortion, they would turn a blind eye
(Mohr p. 88 89). This attitude would change as the perception of

Media s Growing Sexualization Of Women
If you turn on the television or flip through a fashion magazine, it is very likely you will presented
with many displays of hypersexualization of girls and women in advertising images and in media.
There are many components to sexualization. It occurs, according to the American Psychological
Association, when a person s value comes only from his or her sexual appeal or behavior, to the
exclusion of other characteristics. This person is held to a standard that equates physical attractiveness
with being sexy. Sexualization happens when a person is sexually objectified that is, made into a thing
for others sexual use, rather than being seen as a person with their own independent actions and
abilities to make decisions. Oftentimes, sexuality is inappropriately imposed upon a person without
their knowing it or consent. Sometimes, researchers use the word hypersexualization to describe
roughly the same idea. In the article, Media s Growing Sexualization of Women , hypersexualization
is defined as, The act of making something extremely sexual and erotic. The hypersexualization of
females is fairly prevalent across different cultures. The media seems to be bombarded by it;
magazines are plastered with risque images of barely clothed woman and even young girls. In 2011, a

Cuckmere Landslide
Cuckmere Haven hosting approximately 450,000 visitors each year is a popular tourist destination
particularly with views of the Seven Sisters chalk cliffs. It is situated in Sussex, South East of the UK
as shown in Figure 1. The Environment Agency has undergone discussions over restoring the
Cuckmere estuary to a floodplain multiple times in the past but local residents have opposed this due
to concerns over the impact this would have on their homes and on business . The task question I have
chosen is Investigate the reasons for varying approaches to coastal management . The specific
question I will be focusing on is Should the coastal defences at Cuckmere Haven be retained? Initially
I was interested in the discussion of future management

John Cheever s Inner Conflictions
Throughout their lives, each and every person will endure struggles. While these can vary greatly,
each must be handled in the proper way. When it is time to face the music, some people opt to face it
head on, while others choose to take them step by step. Over the course of his battles with marital and
financial issues, John Cheever, author of many short stories and longtime partner of the The New
Yorker decided instead to push these issues out of his mind. By utilizing self delusion he, like many of
his characters, were able to cope with the ever changing world around them, but ultimately leading to
bigger problems in the future. Therefore, John Cheever s inner conflictions in the midst of his
struggles with marriage and finances are mirrored in the actions and words of his characters and the
themes which his stories portray.
Like many of his literary characters, John Cheever began his life in the suburbs, in Quincy,
Massachusetts along with his parents and brother Frederick. The child of well to do parents, Cheever s
father was the owner of a prosperous shoe sale business. They lived comfortably for much of his
childhood, however, during the depression with the economy failing, the business was lost and the
family fell into the clutches of poverty. With no source of income to provide for the family, John
Cheever s mother opened up a gift shop. Having been economically privileged all of his life, he
viewed this chain of events as an abysmal humiliation to the

Van Halen s Runnin With The Devil
Van Halen was the quintessential 80 s party band before the 80 s were even a thing. Runnin with the
Devil is a biography of the band, Van Halen, from their start as a band with a record label up until the
departure of David Lee Roth, their frontman, in 1985. So far, the book has looked into their start as a
backyard party band in Pasadena, California, with Eddie Van Halen, a master on guitar, his older
brother, Alex Van Halen, the drummer who was the backbone of Eddie s riffs, Michael Anthony, the
bassist who brought a jazzy tone to their songs, and David Lee Roth, the frontman who brought the
California to the band. Back then they were drawing in crowds of at most 300 people. Eventually, they
were discovered by Warner Brothers Records, who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Eddie had some an impetus that drove him to do better. Eddie was in love with his guitar. Originally
he had bought a drum set while his brother, Alex, bought an electric guitar. Over a summer when
Eddie was delivering newspapers Alex would play his drum set. Eventually, Alex got really good so
he and Eddie swapped instruments. After that, it seemed as if there was never a moment where Eddie
wasn t without his guitar. One of his favorite things to do for hours on end was noodle , which was a
term he used for playing around and making new sounds. One guitar player that really inspired Eddie
was Tony Lommi of Black Sabbath. Van Halen toured England for the first time opening for Black
Sabbath. It wasn t just talent and originality that separated Tony from his heavy metal and hard rock
brethren; it was the backstory. (Monk 111). When Tony was only 17 years old, he lost the tips of both
his ring and middle fingers on his right hand in an industrial accident. Usually, this would be no big
deal because most guitar players only strum with their right hands, but Tony was a left handed guitar
player, so he fretted with his right and strummed with his left. This really inspired Eddie especially
after Tony removed his prosthetics to show him the missing tips. Most people would usually give up
and abandon their dreams if something like that ever were to happen to them. Eddie in many ways will
always be known as one of the most inspiring guitar players in the world, but inspirational people
have others who they look up to as

Analysis Of It s Like Everyone
It s like everyone tells a story about themselves inside their own head. Always. All the time. That story
makes you what you are. We build ourselves out of that story (Patrick RuthFuss). When a baby is
brought into this world, the only piece of identity it attains from its mother and father is its name. The
rest of the way through life, that person which has been given life, has to find their own path and their
own identity. Although parents teach very dignified lessons of values, it is up to him/her to establish if
they want to adopt the ideals of his/her parents. Lisa Hill from Monkey Beach (Eden Robinson) goes
through the same dilemma that every child that becomes a teenager goes through, the search for
identity. In Monkey Beach, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lisa Hill has confronted many different forms of inequality throughout the novel. Lisa was walking
through a strip mall in a part of town called Terrace when she saw her friend Erica being chased by a
car full of white men verbally harassing her. Lisa then stepped in to stand up to the men while Erica
called her bigger brother. During that whole ordeal there were many bystanders who did not lend a
hand. Later that day, Lisa went to go meet her aunt Trudy when she told her that If you were some
little white girl, that would be true, but you re a mouthy Indian, and everyone thinks we re born sluts.
Those guys would have said you were asking for it and hot off scot free (Robinson, 255). Although
Lisa was just trying to protect her friend, no one decided to stand up to the white men and help a
teenage girl although there were many people watching. This displays the inequality that the regular
man feels towards the Indians. Furthermore, when Lisa s aunt Trudy was just a small teenager herself,
Lisa s grandmother was forced to send her away to a residential school because she was an Indian.
Trudy did not realize this and put her blame and hate on her mother cause a rift between her and her
mother. If Indian children were allowed to go to regular public schools and had equality between
different ways of life, the fissure between a mother and a daughter would not have been created.
Along with that Eden Robinson also fought for the equality for

7c s of Written Communication
7 C s off effective communication (with respect to written communication):
Written communication occupies an important position in the communication sphere, so written
communication has to pay adequate attention on certain principles of necessity. The essentials of every
written communication are principles of unity, coherence and emphasis. These principles along with
other essentials of effective communication, like language, planning and organization make the
written communication effective.
* Clarity: The writing should be correctly planned and expressed in a logical way,and the writer
should make sure that the ideas flow smoothly from beginning to end. The message must be so clear
that even the dullest man in the world should ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Coherence means, tying together of several ideas, under one main topic in any paragraph. Smooth
flow, lucidity and transition aspects should be given effect to and there should not be any scope for the
reader to misinterpret, mis read or mis spell the message. Coherence is given to a larger paragraph or
section of a message and leads to purposeful communication where the writer is well received, read,
understood and acted upon by the reader. * Conciseness: Conciseness is an important factor in
effective communication. It means saying all that needs to be said and no more. The aimless verbiage,
unnecessary details and heavy paragraphs make our communication ridiculous and ineffective. We
must omit those words and sentences from our message, which are not likely to bring about results.
The message, which can be expressed in fewer words, is more impressive and effective than the same
message expressed in a number of words. The communicator must organize his message in such a way
that every word in it is meaningful and of interest to the receiver. Even a single word or a sentence,
which does not contribute to accomplish the purpose of the communication, should be carefully
omitted. Conciseness refers to thoughts expressed in the fewest words consistent with writing. It is
achieved in writing in definite style and use of precise words. Unnecessary superlatives, exaggeration
and indirect beginning should be avoided. Care should be taken to

In Whoever We Are, Loss Finds us and Defines Us , by Anna Quindlen, she brings forth the discussion
grief s grip on the lives of the living. Wounds of death can heal with the passing of time, but in this
instance, the hurt lives on. Published in New York, New York on June 5, 1994, this is one of many
Quindlen published in the New York Times, centered on death s aftermath. This article, written in
response to the death of Quindlen s sister in law, and is focused on an audience who has, currently is,

The effective use of pathos is the crowning jewel used throughout Quindlen s article. The emotion
portrayed in each testimony gives light and drives the forces of the lasting effects of death and grief.
Mrs. Quindlen s specific examples and hard hitting emotional ties of her own experiences delivers a
fatal blow to the heart strings of the reader. Quindlen conveys, My great journalistic contribution to
my family is that I write obituaries. First my mother s, 22 years ago, listing her accomplishments: two
daughters, three sons. Then that of my father s second wife, dead of the same disease that killed his
first one. There is more than meets the eye with his statement, carried throughout the article. Anna
Quindlen makes use of repetition in two different occasions, further making her points stronger and
more intense. Repetition as seen in the article in multiple occasions is used describe the absolute
strength of grief. Quindlen uses and repeats the phrase more than three times in a row, each striking
harder than the one before. Mrs. Quindlen stating grief s power over us as stated, more than sex, more
than faith, even more than its usher death , this statement illustrates the power of grief. Repetition,
found in another section of the article, in this instance, one of the examples used to support the author
s position. The repetitious use of the word loss gives greater meaning to the loss of a loved one such as
a mother.

  • 2. The Importance of Education in The Republic by Plato The great philosopher Plato, speaking through the character of Socrates in his book The Republic, holds the belief that true and good education is what leads civilizations to prosper. Due to this, he is very concerned with the issue of education and how it will be addressed in the state that he and his fellow companions hope to design and build. He talks about how important education is in achieving this idea of justice and morality. Furthermore, I believe that many of the concepts he brings about relating to this subject are still very valid today and can be applied worldwide. Plato believes that education is necessary for the rulers of cities to be effective and that it is the only way to truly understand and achieve the goal of providing and looking out for the citizens of any state. One of the reasons Plato finds education such a necessity and regards it so highly is that it is required to even understand the concept of true justice and being able to distinguish it from injustice. Now although the major point of this book is to establish a meaning for justice, he believes that education is key and it is clear that all the people he associates with in the story are well educated high members of society. Having knowledge on this subject and many others will allow those that eventually become guardians to tell when something is not just or is at least not beneficial for the well being of the citizens. Education is also a major factor in understanding the soul and the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The purpose of the Bill of Rights was a statement of basic individual freedoms that refrain from the English Bill of Rights passed in 1689. • 4. Inca Civil War Research Paper Ariel Durant wrote, A great civilization is not conquered from without until it has destroyed itself from within. The Inca Civil War was the beginning of the downfall of the largest civilization in the Americas. The Inca Civil War lasted from 1529 until April 1532 in Peru and Ecuador. The administrative, political, and military center of the empire was located in Cuzco (modern day Peru). The Inca civilization arose from the highlands of Peru sometime in the early 13th century. The Incas had no written language. Most of what is known about the Incas come from artifacts and the Spaniards. The Inca Civil War was a war between two brothers, Huascar and Atahualpa, that took place after their father Huayna Capac. Huascar and Atahualpa both doomed suitable for the succession of the Inca Empire so, the war began. The Inca Civil War was a conflict that divided a civilization, resulted in significant changes that made the empire more vulnerable and caused the downfall of the Inca civilization. II. Origin, Lifestyle, and Religion Origin The Inca Empire was short lived. It lasted just shy of 100 years due to the collapse of the empire in 1532. There are many legends and myths about how the Incas came to be. According to one legend, the creator god ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Atahualpa made his way into Cajamarca and tried, but failed, to peacefully gain loyalty from Huascar s men. This then resulted is Atahualpa to become very violent, murdering in large numbers, which resulted in Huascar s men surrendering. Atahualpa s army pushed south winning more and more battles. These trends blow up and die out as quickly as they come, but to become the kid who fit in you had to follow these trends. What causes these uproars in popularity are propaganda or campaigns that outline the subject in a positive or negative manner.Lately all across social media political propaganda has been branding Donald Trump an anti hero, and a degenerate, but can this propaganda backfire in a way that is good for Donald Trump? Is this free publicity in favor of him? More than any other candidate, Trump has understood how deeply rooted these feelings have become and he has successfully built an entire campaign around them. If Democrats think they will have an easy time stopping him in the fall, they might want to take a closer look at the characters who have been attracting the masses in recent years. I feel as though Zelizer s opinion upon the situation is partially right, but I believe Trump has gained the population s vote, and has sustained loyal members of his political party, by being a truthful candidate. Unlike other candidate s Trump speaks the cold hard truth most of the time, whereas other people like Hillary Clinton fluff up the truth not exposing how critical situations have become in the world. In this case trump is the anti hero and Hillary is the hero, people don t want to live in a fictionalized world made up of lies promised by the candidate, they want the real world and action done now, and they know Trump is going to be a dynamic character if he becomes ... • 6. The Problem Of Poverty Of Homelessness Poverty WHAT I ALREADY KNOW/WHY THIS TOPIC Down my building street, a homeless lives there. I always wonder what brought him here. What was his previous occupation before living down the street and annoying everyone else. Questions started to rise. Are they really homeless? poor? or faking it up to attract people s attention? I had an experience that made these questions rise weirdly. One day, I was sitting in Starbucks, located in Cary street beside Chili s and I saw the homeless that howl beside my home sitting there and charging his brand new Samsung Galaxy phone and began to text. I was shocked because what I saw is not how homeless should be. Another question rose again, which is, why would he buy a phone with an internet in it. He could buy food for that money. RESULT OF THE RESEARCH After that incident, I started to surf the internet look for an answer. If we do research and discover the situation of homelessness, we will learn that there are many reasons. There are many reasons why does homeless exists. One of those reasons is mental health illnesses. Think about it! Having a kid with a mental issue is a small problem and can be help tightly, but when that kid gets older he/she could be unbearable and living with that person is impossible. From that moments parents ignore that person and sometimes leave him/her alone in a park or even the street. This is one reason why homeless tend to increase over time. Definitions of Self In Community in Sula and Song of Solomon In that place, where they tore the nightshade and blackberry patches from their roots to make room for the Medallion City Golf Course, there once was a neighborhood (Sula 1). She begins with the destruction of the community, ultimately beginning at the end because her novel traces the history of this community. In Song of Solomon. Morrison takes the opposite path. • 8. Cultural Influence Of The Early Medieval Era Exam 2: Cultural Influence One prominent theme that has been encountered throughout this course has been the idea of influence from one culture to another; a cultures influence on another can impact things such as stylistic transition, and transfer of subject matter. The combination of local traditions and newly introduced ideas will allow for new types of artwork to be produced. Artwork during the Early Medieval era, Romanesque era, and Gothic era demonstrates how local and imported ideas intermingle to produce new things. In order to fully express the idea of cultures integrating local ideas with ideas of other cultures to form new artworks, focusing specifically on architecture will allow for the theme to be fully justified. During the dynamic Early Medieval era, which dates back to 500 1000 BCE, European identity was developed and stimulated by Europeans interactions with other cultures in Eurasia and the Mediterranean. During the Early Medieval era early Christian basilicas such as Santa Sabina and San Paolo fuori le Mura (St. Paul s Outside the Walls) maintained the basic structure of the Roman basilica, and incorporated local ideas, which include added Christian elements such as the transept and the ambo. The Romanesque era is the art of Europe from approximately 1000 AD to the rise of the Gothic style in the 13th century. Romanesque architecture retained many basic features of Roman architectural style, which include round headed arches, vaults, apses, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Christians believe that God created the world and that the world is a few thousand years old. We believe that the old worldview is wrong and that the world was not created from an atom exploding. We can respond with saying that we don t know how the first atom became of and that how could humans with feelings and a soul evolve from just one atom. Only God could make the world like it is and make us humans so complex. Christians can ask questions like, Who put the first atom that exploded there? or, If cells can only come from other living cells, then how could there be the first cell without God? This is a very difficult question for people who are not Christians because this violateds the 3rd rule of cell theory. Only God could make humans have a soul and feelings. Christians believe in the new worldview because God created the world and everything in it. The world was without sin, but sin was introduced when Adam and Eve ate from the tree. This is when death, sickness, and sin came into the world. There was a flood to wipe the Earth of the evil on it. God warned Noah about the flood and told him to build an ark and put two of each animal on it. Next, there was the Tower of Babel which is when there became different races. When it comes to the Long and Short Term Orientation, both Italy and the United States are low. Italy leads by a slight percentage. Both countries have a short term when it comes to business planning. These cultural differences are not extreme. This does not seem like a big enough threat for the Fiat Chrysler alliance or merger. In many ways Italy and the United States appear to be similar countries. In many ways they are different too. • 17. The Lion and the Ox Essay Omar Malas AAPTIS 381 Professor Legassick Kalila wa Dimna The Lion and the Ox is a one of the oldest and most popular pieces of classic Arabic literature. Originally from India, this animal fable is famous for its inclusion of many other animal fables, each of which help provide the characters of the story with advice regarding their situation. Unlike The Arabian Nights, which also uses a frame tale that contains each tale, multiple animals share their wisdom with one another. The wisdom of the story s two main characters, Kalila and Dimna, help foreshadow and motivate the events of the frame tale and bring it to a reasonable yet tragic conclusion. Approaching Kalila after this initial failure, Dimna explains his new plan to destroy the ox using a parable within a parable: the story of the heron and the crab within the story of the raven and the snake. A snake has made it a habit of eating the raven s eggs every time one is laid. The raven complains to it to stop, but to no avail. When the raven complains to the jackal of its problem and how it hopes to solve the problem by clawing the snakes eyes out, the jackal tells her the parable of the heron and the crab. Briefly, the old heron uses the innocent crab to trick the fish by claiming that the fishermen are coming to wipe them out and that he can help them by each day carrying them to a pool where they will be safe. The fish agree to the heron s trick. The heron carries a few fish away each day, but as soon as he is out of the sight of the other fish, he eats them. One day when the crab wants to be taken to the pool, he sees all the fish bones and realizes what has been happening. The crab then attacks the heron, pinching its throat and killing it. The moral to this story, explains the jackal, is sometimes people destroy themselves by their own craft and cunning if they are not careful (Arberry 92). This story helps foreshadows the fact that there is great risk for Dimna if he tries to destroy the ox, but that this risk is worth the effort as long as he doesn t become too invested. • 18. Comparing Story Of An Hour And The Interlopers Compare and Contrast Essay Reading short stories is often enjoyable, as each individual story varies quite a bit from the others. Although short stories follow a pattern, they have many different themes. Though The Story of an Hour by Kate Chopin and The Interlopers by Saki seem unrelated at first glance, there are similar themes in both. The main character in The Story of an Hour is quite fragile and has a weak heart, making her prone to heart attacks under duress, since she was afflicted with a heart trouble (Chopin). She feels imprisoned by her husband, although he seems to love her. At the end of the story, she receives a great shock and her heart fails. At the end of The Interlopers , the two men are trapped and also supposedly get killed. However, the main characters are both brawny hunters, tough and weathered. Sounds start from the air that we inhale every day. Although we have all those things that cause it we ,ourselves have to form the sounds that we make with our mouths. • 20. The Enlightenment s Era s Most Notable Thinkers The Enlightenment was a crucial period in modern history for the simple fact that it engendered some of the thoughts that are directly responsible for contemporary social, political, and religious institutions. This epoch, along with the Renaissance, helped to spur Western Civilization out of the Dark Ages and into contemporary conceptions of modernization. Not surprisingly, this time period is characterized by a number of different seditions and the revolutionary tenets that fueled them which were markedly at variance with social, political, and religious notions that preceded them. As these three spheres of life often intersect with one another, there is some degree of difficulty in isolating their specific causes in terms of respective Enlightenment principles. However, history has revealed that some of the most distinguishable characteristics of this historical era are its different ideas regarding the nature of politics and the role of government in ruling over the people, its new regard for and conception of traditional viewpoints of religion, and a philosophical divergence with the past in terms of ethics and psychology; a review of the Enlightenment s most notable thinkers (such as Thomas Hobbes, John Locke, Thomas Jefferson and Benjamin Franklin) readily confirms this thesis. Examine some of the key principles of the argument for the existence of God based upon religious experiences Religious experiences are experiences we have of the divine or God. These experiences may be Mystical experiences, conversion experiences or revelatory experiences. Paul Tillich states that religious experience is a feeling of ultimate concern , a feeling that demands a decisive decision from the one receiving it. The problems with premise three can also be highlighted by looking at the religious experience of Mosses when he saw God in the burning bush. When God came to him, Mosses had just killed a man and run away into the desert. Therefore he could be experiencing extreme guilt which could cause him to have an illusion. Also if he is in the desert then he was most likely dehydrated which again could cause an illusion. Therefore other factors may be used to explain religious experiences. Another example to support premise three, and one that addresses the problem of the subjective nature of religious experiences, is corporate religious experiences. This is when large numbers of people all have the same religious experience at the same time. The fact that they are experienced by many leads to the fact that they can be objectively tested and the accounts validated adding further support for the argument. Those that argue that religious experiences are proof of the existence of God usually argue inductively. This means that they look at the subjective testimonies of individuals who claim to have had religious experiences in order to find similar characteristics and then draw the general conclusion that the experiences can only be explained in terms of the existence of God. • 37. Analysis Of The Movie White Liar By Miranda Lambert Picking Up the Pieces Picking Up the Pieces is the film being produced to document my life. I have never put much thought into how my life would be portrayed or even documented. However, as I sit here thinking about what music I would use for the soundtrack, I start thinking about all of the things that I have been through in my life. All of those hurdles that I had to climb over and the songs that have so much meaning start to flow through my mind. There are many songs to choose from, but I narrow them down to the top four that I feel set the mood of how I have picked up the pieces of my life from a tragic divorce and moved on to now being a thriving non traditional college student seeking to become a Hospitality Manager. The first song that I have chosen is White Liar by Miranda Lambert because this song represents what I went through during my very tragic divorce. Lambert is an American country music artist who co wrote this song with Natalie Hemby. The song was released in August of 2009. The reason I chose this song is because the words remind me of what I went through when I found out that my husband of six years had been cheating on me and how I felt. Lambert sings, Hey white liar, the truth comes out a little at a time and it spreads just like a fire. My husband had been cheating on me and the entire time, I sensed something was wrong, but he continued to tell me that I was wrong. According to him, they were just friends. In reality, I too was also a white liar ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Shift in Abortion Policy in the 1800s Essay The Shift in Abortion Policy in the 1800s In 1800 no jurisdiction in the United Sates had enacted any statutes whatsoever on the subject of abortion... Yet by 1900 virtually every jurisdiction in the United States had laws upon its books that proscribed the practice sharply and declared most abortions to be criminal offenses (Mohr p. VII). Societal Changes from the Early 1800s to the Mid 1800s During the early 1800s, abortion at the beginning of a pregnancy was neither immoral nor criminal. Common law held that before quickening, the first perception of fetal movement by the mother, usually during the second trimester, the fetus was not alive or independent. It urged using cathartics like aloe and calomel, and bleeding from the foot to restore menstruation (Mohr p. 6 7). In addition, rural women relied on underground networks of communication to spread abortifacient information by word of mouth (Mohr p. 107). To induce miscarriages, women employed Folk and Native American herbal abortifacients. The following herbs were most frequently recommended: black hellebore, savin, aloe, calomel, horehound, madder root, Spanish fly, jalap, scammony, bitter apple, myrrh, Seneca snakeroot, and black cohosh (Mohr p. 8 12). Most women who sought abortions during the first decades of the 1800s were young and unmarried. They aborted their illegitimate pregnancies to preserve their reputation in society and their prospect of marriage (Mohr p. 16 17). If virginity was the boundary between life as a respectable wife and life as a prostitute, then women who had become pregnant before marriage had little choice but to abort (Beisel p. 30). Doctors recognized that abortion would save these women from a life of destitution and were sympathetic to their plight. While they did not encourage abortion, they would turn a blind eye (Mohr p. 88 89). This attitude would change as the perception of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Media s Growing Sexualization Of Women If you turn on the television or flip through a fashion magazine, it is very likely you will presented with many displays of hypersexualization of girls and women in advertising images and in media. There are many components to sexualization. It occurs, according to the American Psychological Association, when a person s value comes only from his or her sexual appeal or behavior, to the exclusion of other characteristics. This person is held to a standard that equates physical attractiveness with being sexy. Sexualization happens when a person is sexually objectified that is, made into a thing for others sexual use, rather than being seen as a person with their own independent actions and abilities to make decisions. Oftentimes, sexuality is inappropriately imposed upon a person without their knowing it or consent. Sometimes, researchers use the word hypersexualization to describe roughly the same idea. In the article, Media s Growing Sexualization of Women , hypersexualization is defined as, The act of making something extremely sexual and erotic. When it is time to face the music, some people opt to face it head on, while others choose to take them step by step. So far, the book has looked into their start as a backyard party band in Pasadena, California, with Eddie Van Halen, a master on guitar, his older brother, Alex Van Halen, the drummer who was the backbone of Eddie s riffs, Michael Anthony, the bassist who brought a jazzy tone to their songs, and David Lee Roth, the frontman who brought the California to the band. After that, it seemed as if there was never a moment where Eddie wasn t without his guitar. One of his favorite things to do for hours on end was noodle , which was a term he used for playing around and making new sounds. One guitar player that really inspired Eddie was Tony Lommi of Black Sabbath. Van Halen toured England for the first time opening for Black Sabbath. It wasn t just talent and originality that separated Tony from his heavy metal and hard rock brethren; it was the backstory. (Monk 111). When Tony was only 17 years old, he lost the tips of both his ring and middle fingers on his right hand in an industrial accident. Usually, this would be no big deal because most guitar players only strum with their right hands, but Tony was a left handed guitar player, so he fretted with his right and strummed with his left. This really inspired Eddie especially after Tony removed his prosthetics to show him the missing tips. Most people would usually give up and abandon their dreams if something like that ever were to happen to them. Lisa was walking through a strip mall in a part of town called Terrace when she saw her friend Erica being chased by a car full of white men verbally harassing her. Lisa then stepped in to stand up to the men while Erica called her bigger brother. During that whole ordeal there were many bystanders who did not lend a hand. Later that day, Lisa went to go meet her aunt Trudy when she told her that If you were some little white girl, that would be true, but you re a mouthy Indian, and everyone thinks we re born sluts. Those guys would have said you were asking for it and hot off scot free (Robinson, 255). Although Lisa was just trying to protect her friend, no one decided to stand up to the white men and help a teenage girl although there were many people watching. This displays the inequality that the regular man feels towards the Indians. Furthermore, when Lisa s aunt Trudy was just a small teenager herself, Lisa s grandmother was forced to send her away to a residential school because she was an Indian. Trudy did not realize this and put her blame and hate on her mother cause a rift between her and her mother.
