1900-1910 Essay
1900 1910
At the beginning of the 20th century a New York editorialist wrote that the 20th century began in the
United States with a sense of euphoria and self satisfaction, a sure feeling that America is the envy of
the world (World History Timeline 1900 1901 ). The president was Teddy Roosevelt, who enjoyed
enormous popularity due to the general happiness of the American people. A thriving industry created
many jobs for immigrants and others. A monumental event took place in 1901 when the New York
Stock Exchange exceeded 2 million shares for the first time ever (World History Timeline 1900 1901
). The tycoon J.P. Morgan created the U.S. Steel Co. in 1901, which became the first billion dollar
corporation in the world (Historical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 1900 there was the Boxer Rebellion in which anti foreigner Boxers occupied Beijing. International
force eventually ended the violent siege (Historical Daily Almanac 1900 ). Another major world event
during the decade was the Russo Japanese War. The two countries battled over the control of
Manchuria and Korea, and the Russians were forced to surrender (Historical Daily Almanac 1905 ).
Also around the globe, in the field of psychology, the great Sigmund Freud wrote a book called The
Interpretation of Dreams (Magill 14). This book documented Freud s theory that dreams are
meaningful and can be understood. Another great mind of that era was Albert Einstein. He came up
with his theory of relativity in 1905(Magill 19).
Great artists of the world were also creating some of their most brilliant work during this decade.
Henri Matisse fought to find the artistic freedom he needed by creating the Fauvist movement in the
early 1900 s(Pioch 2). Fauvism led to the larger movement called Expressionism, a term used to
describe any art that raises subjective feelings above objective observations (Pioch 4). Georges
Rouault was another pioneer of the Expressionist movement; he was a Frenchman who linked the
decorative effects of Fauvism in France with the symbolic color of German Expressionism (Pioch 6).
Another leading artist of the time period was Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, a German who wanted his art to
be a bridge to the future (Pioch 6). These men were very important artists, but

The American Black Bear ( Ursus Americanus )
Habitat can be considered as the optimal location where any one species can live, reproduce, and grow
in an ecological time scale (Kellner et al. 1992). As the climatic conditions of the world are changing
at a rapid pace, it is important to understand how species will adapt with the weather and learn to
adjust their way of living. Understanding how a species survives in different climatic regions is very
important for the future management of the species population and habitat. With this knowledge an
individual could more efficiently manage their habitat to make it more suitable for the species to live
under the given climatic conditions.
The American black bear (Ursus americanus) is native to North America, more specifically Canada
and northern and southeastern United States. Ursus americanus once ranged from Mexico and all
throughout United States and into Canada, but as human population increased and climatic conditions
have changed, Ursus americanus moved to locations with lower populations and cooler climates,
which are northern North America as well as southeastern United States. Ursus americanus are found
with the highest populations in Canada and northwestern United states where there are lower human
populations, larger forests, and cooler climates. Landscape will vary throughout North America as will
the choice of habitat for Ursus americanus. Important habitat factors to consider for Ursus americanus
include food availability, water proximity, and den

African Americans In Prison
There have been 100,000 African Americans in prison since Brown vs Board of education. The article
states that the trend will continue, 1 of every 3 African American males are apparently born today can
expect to go to prison in their time, 1 in 6 Latino males, compared to 1 in every 17 White males. But
for women, it is much lower, but the ethnicity does not change: 1 out of 18 African Americans, 1 out
of 45 Hispanics, and finally 1 of every 111 White females, are expected to serve some time in prison.
At any given day, 1 in every 13 African American males between 30 to 39 will incarcerated in a state

Prison wardens are not able to continue. There are three ways that the article wants to alleviate racial
biases. They are 1) leveling the playing field. This provides sentencing options for the courts with a
greater number of defendants court be sentenced in the community. This is then avoiding incarceration
while permitting offenders. 2) Invest in high school completion. There has been studies that 68% of
dropout students, end up in jail. If there is high school completion this will help increase the off set of
rate of improvement. 3) Adopt racial statement legislation. THis is environmental impact and racial
impact that requires police to consider any racial effects of sentencing.
The racial disparities article also shares that even though the article focuses on adults, juvenile justice
cases often have extreme racial/ethnic disparities as well. Apparently, the race and ethnic disparities
are often more noticeable in the beginning of Juvenile justice system. From other cases, cases have

Approaches to Government Control on Expenditure
1. INTRODUCTION Money is central to the functioning of a government, revenue is generated by the
imposition of taxes and the money received is then spent by the Commonwealth subject to
appropriation. The scope of the governments capacity to spend public moneys has been a controversial
issue for many years, due to the uncertainty surrounding the scope of the spending power. This essay
will determine which approach to Government s control on expenditure is more favourable; the
narrow approach, where Commonwealth s financial expenditure should be limited to expenses
authorised by statute or the wide approach, where the Government should have unlimited spending
power. In order to determine this it is necessary to discuss the different Court s conclusions and
principles that apply in the interpretation of the relevant sections of the Constitution, specifically the
appropriation provisions ss 81 and 83, executive powers provision s 61 and s 96 relating to State
grants. This essay will also evaluate other cases to discuss the effects and developments they have had
on determining the scope of Government s spending power. 2. SCOPE OF SECTION 81 2.1
Executive Government s Appropriation Powers Commonwealth Parliament makes money available to
the Executive Government to spend on a range of matters. An appropriation of money is needed
before Parliament can lawfully spend moneys received. This is usually done through Appropriation
Acts and through annual budgets. Sections 81 and 83

Analysis Of Truman s Cold Blood
Capote, Truman. In Cold Blood. New York, New York: Random House, 1967. Print
1. Setting and Tone
Capote starts the book telling us about the town of Holcomb. He starts the book with an ominous tone.
At the time, not a soul sleeping in Holcomb heard them four shotgun blasts that, all told, ended six
human lives. Pg 5
2. Characterization and Tone
Capote tells us about each of the members of the Clutter household. He makes them sound like a
normal family with different interests. He tells us what they liked to do and where their bodies were
found in the house.
The eldest daughter, Eveanna... lived in northern Illinois but visited frequently. This is a small passage
describing one of the Clutters.
3. Characterization and Tone
Perry Smith is introduced as the sidekick to Dick Hickok. They both have tattoos. They never really
fully trust one another. Perry gets dragged into the murders by Dick. Perry shares a cell with Floyd
Wells, who he tells about the murders. Perry was a thief on parole in Kansas before the murders. He
only goes along with Dicks score because he wants a ride to Kansas to see a friend.
Of course, Perry could have struck out on his own, stayed in Mexico, let Dick go where he damn well
wanted. Why not? Hadn t he always been a loner, and without any real friends.

Capital Punishment Is Cruel And Unusual
Although many people believe that capital punishment is cruel and unusual. It is the only punishment
that can truly compensate the loss of a loved one. In recent years, the rate of serious crimes has
increased. The increase of crime is the result of less effective punishment. Dating back to early
civilizations, capital punishment, also known as the death penalty, was viewed as an effective
punishment. Yet today s society it is viewed as cruel and inhumane. I believe that capital punishment
should be executed more often because; the rate of serious crime will decrease, free up prison space,
and would serve as the ultimate warning. What is capital punishment? Capital punishment is the
lawful way to take a person s life, once convicted of a serious crime, such as first degree murder.
Some people agree it is the most appropriate punishment to all vile murder cases (Williams), but
others call it cruel and unconstitutional. There are a variety of methods in the death penalty. The
method used most would be lethal injections, due to its quickness, effectiveness, and pain less results.
My first reason why I believe the death penalty should be executed more often is because it could
possibly help the problem of overcrowding in prisons. States such as Texas and California, mainly
suffer from this problem due to its vast population and crime rate. Instead of keeping inmates for life
in prison, its better to execute the one s with the most serious crimes than to release them or

The Wars By Timothy Findley
According to Brandon Mull, the New York Times bestselling author of the Beyonoders series,
...heroism means doing the right thing regardless of the consequence (Mull 39). In The Wars by
Timothy Findley, the protagonist, Robert Ross, displays key characteristics of heroism throughout his
struggle to maintain his morality. In the novel, Robert displays an admiration for the sanctity of life, a
desire to achieve the greatest good, and a virtuous moral conscience which all contribute to him
achieving heroism in the face of adversity.
Throughout the novel, Robert displays his admiration for the sanctity of life of all sorts, whether
human or animal. Robert shared a loving relationship with his sister Rowena, whom he cared deeply
about. Early in the novel, we learn that Rowena was the first human being [Robert] remembered
seeing (Findley 14) and that their relationship escalated through the years to the point where Robert
became her guardian (14) due to the fact that she was immobilized by her hydrocehpelia. We see
through Robert s character that he has a heavy heart for his sister. Rowena s sudden death early in the
novel affects Robert s mindset as he grieves for her as he continues on his life journey. In addition to
human life, Robert shares an admiration for the sanctity of animal life as well. Most notably, are
Rowena s rabbits, which are set to be euthanized after her death which Robert objects to. In his act of
attempting to save the lives of the rabbits, he jumps on

The Mythology Of The Greek Mythology
Nowadays people remember Ancient Greece somewhat, pieces here and there, taught briefly in your
common high school global history class. What most people often forget is that the Ancient Greeks
were and still are such a great influence towards our Western culture. Of course, they are not the only
ones who have contributed to our knowledgeable society. Though, when it comes to the category of
psychology I believe that the Ancient Greeks contributed the most, specifically with their mythology.
A myth is defined as a traditional or legendary story, collection, or study. It is derived from the Greek
word mythos, which simply means story. The Greek myths had many purposes to the Greeks such as
teaching a moral lesson, explaining the origins of the world, explaining the origins of the gods and
their relationships with humans, and why certain events occurred in nature. The authors of each myth
were said to be divinely inspired by the Muses. The Muses were the goddesses of artistic inspiration.
These Muses were thought to whisper in the ear of the author the adventures of the gods. Thus, myths
held a sacred place in ancient Greece as they were seen to be divinely inspired and were meant to
express an important message about life or the gods to the people.
Not only was mythology important to the Ancient Greeks, but forward a couple millenniums later and
a great psychologist was influenced by the importance of the myths as well Sigmund Freud. Freud was

Abraham Moslow Essay
Abraham Moslow
The theorist I chose was Maslow, he was born in 1908 in Brooklyn, New York. He was the first of
seven children born to his parents, Jewish immigrants from Russia. His parents, hoping for the best for
their children in the New World, pushed him hard for academic success. He became the psychologist
who many people consider the founder of a movement called humanistic psychology. The movement
developed as a revolt against behaviorism and psychoanalysis, the two most popular psychological
views of the mid 1900 s. Humanistic psychologists believe individuals are controlled by their own
values and choices and not by the environment, as behaviorists think, or by unconscious drives, as
psychoanalyst believe. Maslow stressed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In our day to day life we exhibit these needs in our desires to marry, have a family be a part of a
community, a member of church, brother part of a fraternity, a part of a gang or a bowling club. It is
also a part of what we look for in a career. The esteem needs. Next we begin to look for a little self
esteem. Maslow noted two versions of esteem needs, a lower one and a higher one. The lower one is
the need for the respect of others, the need for status, fame, glory, recognition, attention, reputation,
appreciation, dignity, even dominance. The higher form involves the need for self respect, including
such feelings as confidence, competence, achievement, mastery, independence, and freedom. This is
the higher
form because, unlike the respect of others, once we have self respect, it is a much harder to lose. The
negative version of these needs is low self esteem and weakness complexes. Maslow felt that Adler
was onto something when he stated that these were at the roots of many, even of our psychological
difficulties. In modern countries, many of us have what we need in regard to our physiological and
safety needs. Sometimes we even have reasonable amount of love and sense of belonging. It is a
respect that often seems hard to get! The next four levels Maslow calls deficit needs, or D needs. If
you do not have an adequate amount of something it would make it a deficit .We feel

Ambiguity In Born To Run
Particularly, off of Born to Run is Jungleland : an almost ten minute long epic that closes the album.
Particularly, it is characterized as a romance set upon a backdrop of gang oriented violence. Various
aspects of the song have warranted scrutiny; notably, it has been widely argued as to whether the song
takes place in the cities of New Jersey or the streets of Uptown New York City, and whether the
protagonists of the piece are affiliated with the mafia or street gangs. While the meaning behind the
song does not change if the ambiguity was lost, it is worth taking into account. Moreover, this album
combined a number of new musical elements for Bruce Springsteen, such as the violin introduction
that sets a somber tone, and the piano tune ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The solo blends a nice balance of hope and uncertainty, but this vacillation is put to rest when the
saxophone ends and piano begins: slow, soft, and gloomy. This darkness foreshadows the stanza that
follows, in which the Magic Rat is killed and his girl is left on her own. Springsteen may have used
this song as a social commentary, in which he shuts down the notion that gang life is glamorous and
makes the point that it is not all that it is cracked up to be, particularly in the lyrics, The Rat s own
dream guns him down ... / No one watches when the ambulance pulls away / Or as the girl shuts out
the bedroom light ( Jungleland. ). It is clear that here Springsteen is debunking the idea that gangs are
a support system, a family, that many believe them to be, as no one is there to mourn the loss of the
Rat or support the Barefoot Girl in her time of need. Overall, Springsteen used this piece to convey a
message to his audience that fit the time period, as gang violence of all kinds was on the rise,
particularly in the areas for which he lived in and around. Thus, this song brought about innovation
while slotting itself into one of the first of Springsteen s songs to shift toward the spirit of heartland

Mr. Palomar By Italo Calvino
Mr. Palomar exhibits a unique interesting character throughout the entire book Mr. Palomar by Italo
Calvino. The odd slipper (Page 99 101), specifically addresses a lot of Mr. Palomar s perspectives on
simple topics, it clearly shows that Mr. Palomar is a deep thinker and it conveys his habit of over
complicating matters that are supposed to be simple, it is effective in highlighting the image that Mr.
Palomar is a character who tends to isolate himself from the world by questioning it and examining
every aspect of our being and stance in society.
The odd slipper (Page 99) is about Mr. Palomar receiving a mismatched shoe while shopping in
Bazaar. This passage displays the sudden division of Mr. Palomar s seemingly strong perspective into
two different, opposing viewpoints. One is that at first, Mr. Palomar believed that by purchasing a
mismatched shoe, he had started a chain of events that would cause consequences in the future:
centuries can go by before the consequences of this mistake affect another visitor to that ancient
bazaar. Every process of disintegration in the order of the world is irreversible; the effects, however,
are hidden and delayed by the dust cloud of the big numbers, which contains virtually limitless
possibilities of new symmetries, combinations, pairings. (Page 100)
By saying this, Mr. Palomar means that any changes in the world that bring about disorder are
irreversible, but their consequences may actually be hidden until the very end.

Analysis Of The Poem Utnapishtim Immortality
Matthew Loper Ms Teresa Wells World Lit 2423 363 September 21, 2015 Utnapishtim Immortality
Utnapishtim was granted immortality for the simple fact that Enlil hated him and wanted to punish
him with eternal life. Utnapishtim was told by Ea that the flood was coming, and he knew that would
be the end of mankind. Utnapishtim said to Ea Your command, my lord, exactly as you said it, I shall
faithfully execute. (pg73 line 33) Ultimately he developed a plan to save himself and the people. His
plan was to construct a huge boat and when the floods came the people would be on the boat and not
be killed. Utnapishtim knew he had to have a plan in order for the construction of the boat to be
completed. He was very smart with his plan and knew how to bring the people together and for the
boat to be finished in time. In order for his plan to work he had to come up with a story to tell his
people. He had to have a believable story so they would follow him and not think he was crazy. He
asked Ea for advice on this matter, and asked what he should tell the people. He was told to tell the
people that Enlil is angry with him and that he must find a new place to live. The story works and the
people stand blindly behind him. For seven days straight Utnapishtim sacrificed a lamb or a bull in a
celebratory manner and the people feasted until the bellies were full. There was also plenty of beer and
wine to keep the people happy. After the 7 days the boat was complete. Enlil wanted to destroy

A Direct Link Between Carbon Dioxide And Global Warming
Damon Matthews, a professor in Concordia University s Department of Geography, found a direct
connection between carbon dioxide and global warming. Matthew s studies show that same global
temperature increase, regardless of when or over what period of time the emission occurs. The effect
of adding more carbon dioxide is predicted in the theory of greenhouse gases. Swedish scientist,
Syante Arrhenius, first proposed the theory in 1896, based on earlier work by Fourier and Tyndall. At
the same time, many scientists have reached the same conclusion. If we increase the amount of
greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, the Earth s temperature will increase. Energy is absorbed from
the sun in the form of visible light and ultraviolet radiation. The earth then releases some of this
energy as infrared radiation. Greenhouse gases in the atmosphere captures some of this heat, then re
emit it in all directions. During this process, carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases keep the Earth
s surface 33 degree Celsius warmer than it would be without them. According to an ongoing
temperature analysis conducted by a scientist at NASA s Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS),
the average global temperature on Earth has increased by about 0.8 degree Celsius. Since 1975, two
thirds of the warming has occurred at a rate of roughly 0.15 0.20 degree Celsius per decade. Our lives

Jacob Stevens Essay
Jacob Stevens was a typical tall and muscular 18 year old student who seemed frightening for your
first impression, but actually is warm hearted and sweet. Coming from a poor background, his family
did not have enough money to buy him toys or games. So instead, he went out with his friends, and
this is how he developed his love for baseball.
One day while out playing with his friends in the field, a scout who had been passing by offered him a
scholarship to Boston College. As the first in his family to get a post secondary education, his family
was very proud of him because after all his hard work he has put into sports, it finally paid off. This
scholarship changed Jacob s life since he had to leave his friends and family behind. Jacob was ...

The Assigned Portrait By Anthony Van Dyck
The assigned portrait is a work by Anthony van Dyck that dates back to 1621, presumably finished
before the artist left his native city of Antwerp for Italy (Genua). From the title, we gather that Van
Dyck is depicting a family of three. The father is sat on the right, while the mother is sat on the left;
they are both facing the viewer. Their young child is positioned on the mother s lap, its head turned
towards the father. The colour scheme includes rich, dark colours for the attire of the couple, a vibrant
red colour for the drapery behind the mother and similar shades of dark green for the mother s skirt,
the child s skirt and the velvet fabric on the furniture approximate to the child s skirt. Additionally, the
inset of the mother s dress ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The bear little resemblance to other depictions of Wildens, whose satyr like characteristics and sharp
glance are considered distinctive. However, the features of the father in our case study look oddly
familiar. That is because they are much more similar to the characteristics of the father in the portrait
The Family of Cornelis de Vos (1584/5 1651), also by Van Dyck. In addition to the facial features, Van
Dyck diligently portrayed the fine lace ruff and sleeves of the man s attire and the tightly starched ruff
of the woman (The State Hermitage Museum, Family Portrait ) in both portraits, pairing those with
delicate hand gestures, present in both paintings. To boot, Van Dyck used the same landscape art as a
background for the father s head and the same deep red coloured blinds behind the mother. The colour
schemes and even the golden button details and the wooden handle on the furniture where the mother
is sat are alike, too. Given these similarities (and the fact that de Vos painted a portrait of his own
family during the same period), it might be possible that the family in the portrait is actually that of
Cornelis de Vos. (Dickinson, Sir Anthony Van Dyck ) Since we know that Magdalena, the youngest
daughter of de Vos was born in 1619, it is possible that the family portrait below was painted in 1620
and our case study was actually painted

The Best Mental Approaches A Child Should Take
the best mental approaches a child should take. I will then progress exploring one calculation in extra
detail, looking at ways to teach the problem, manipulatives I would use to support the problem and
how they link to the year two national curriculum.
The addition is the first operation children learn from a young age and mastering it, is the first step
toward the long lasting appreciation of maths. Children from Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) do
not need to memorise complex additions in order to become confident with basic addition. instead,
teachers support children to practice counting; counting on, doubling, learning place value visually
rather than mentally and encourage them to do it in different ways. They also use ... Show more

However, with subtraction calculations, this is not possible. Hence they are expected to use inverse
relationship between addition and subtraction to check calculations and solve missing number
problems. (NC, 2013).
One of the approaches, which is highly recommended for children to practise, is to do addition
calculations mentally (working out calculations in their head) using various strategies, which is the
focus of this essay. Tony Cotton (2013, p.109) states that developing mental approaches is more
efficient to work out solutions to problems and helps children to become fluent in mental calculation.
However, doing mental calculations, such as addition, can be challenging and confusing for some
children. Therefore, introducing appropriate strategies (for example counting on, partitioning, bridging
through 10) and using them to draw images or mark making will encourage children to see
calculations in their heads and will allow them to use the strategy which is the most suited for them
(Cotton, 2013, p. 110).
Ian Thomson also suggests (I part 1 addition) that visual representation plays an important role in
developing mental addition. for example, number lines help children to recognise place value and with
prior knowledge of ordinal sense of numbers, it helps them to move from counting in ones to counting
in larger steps, such as 2, 5, 10, 100 and so

Optimism In The Novel Candide By Voltaire
The novel, Candide by Voltaire, is about Candide who grows up in the home of Baron Thunder ten
tronckh in the German province of Westphalia. His tutor, Pangloss, teaches him that their world is the
best of all possible worlds, and everything that transpires in this world is for the best. Candide accepts
Pangloss s teachings as absolute truth. Pangloss optimism can be considered as exaggerated and blind.
Optimism is defined as a disposition or tendency to look on the more favorable side of events or
conditions and to expect the most favorable outcome; the belief that good ultimately predominates
over evil in the world; the belief that goodness pervades reality; and the doctrine that the existing
world is the best of all possible worlds. Throughout the story, Pangloss encounters suffering that
contradicts his beliefs that this is the best possible world to live in. His struggle and suffering make us
think that Voltaire was creating a satire of the beliefs of the time. With this era of time being known as
the Age of Enlightenment, one might think that the intention of Voltaire was to represent extreme
optimism in an era where you were supposed to think with rational and reason. ... Show more content

Security And Privacy On The Internet Essay

Internet could be used by rivals or criminals just as a mean to access such information. If consider
such fact that almost any organization today uses Internet as it uses telephone, the scales of the issue
become global. As an example I would like to describe my experience working at a relatively small
fruit import company. The management of this firm gets information, makes orders, and carries almost
all negotiations via the e mail. To minimize the risk of any disclosure or loss of confidential data, it is
important to understand where the risks are, and implement office management practices and

various ways: vulnerabilities of operation systems (mostly Microsoft products), vulnerabilities of e

measures to protect data. Selection of security means should be based on an effective protection and
meanwhile should be convenient. As advises article Anonymity for lazy people (2004, June

these barriers. Three sub topics will be looked at over the course of this essay and a conclusion will be

The definition of compassion in the oxford dictionary is sympathetic pity and concern for the suffering

is no accurate definition for compassion as it is a word that can be understood in different ways.

hospitals were clearly not heard when they complained of feeling unwell and did not receive
compassionate care so why was this? Next to be discussed is compassion fatigue and how this may
reflect onto nursing practice in providing sufficient compassion.
Compassion fatigue is widely known in the health care profession. Nurses working overtime and long
working days to provide care for the patient and the patient s families are a continuous stress on a
nurse s emotional and physical well being especially if the nurse is providing the patient with end of

Inter Ethnic Conflict And Ethnic Conflicts
Topic
Underlying Causes of Inter Ethnic Conflict in Samburu County, Kenya
Background
Inter ethnic conflict is one of the major problems facing most Kenya community and mostly the
nomadic communities. Inter ethnic conflicts involving pastoralists have become widespread and
increasingly severe in the northern region of Kenya. Conflict has often resulted in severe disruption of
social and economic development. It has also constrained efforts to reduce or end poverty and sustain
basic human rights. There has been a recurrence of violence where peace agreements have been sealed
and an escalation of violence where conflicts have hitherto been latent.
Several facts have been advanced to explain the main causes of inter ethnic conflicts between most
nomadic tribes. Most of these issues revolve around livestock ownership and to get access to scarce
natural resources such as water. Although the pastoral conflicts have deep roots in history, culture and
are generally attributed to their retrogressive and outdated practices, there is more to their current
nature and dynamics. In recent years it is mainly due to the proliferation of modern small arms,
banditry and predation, commercialization of livestock raiding, dispute over land tenure rights.
According to many authors, the cattle raiding which is a cultural practice has become a widespread,
sophisticated, more violent, and destructive among pastoral communities in northern Kenya (Kumssa,

Regulating t shirts is desirable for three reasons. Age plays a large role, students saying hurtful things,
and teaching about language is a school s job. Without a doubt, public schools should regulate

Although there are many instances where there is potential for growth, here are a few specific
examples: opening your economy, benefits to your economy, taking advantage of comparative
advantages, building partnerships, and increased competition. By creating this trade agreement,
Primaria will open their economy and produce opportunities for growth in investments and joint

opportunities for growth in investments and joint ventures increase. The trade agreement will bring
benefits to the economy, which can also be seen from China. China s economy has boomed since they
have become open to international trade, and imports have played a very large role in this economic

Evolution of Human
Human evolution is the biological and cultural development of humans. A human is any member of
the species Homo sapiens, meaning wise man. Since at least the Upper Paleolithic era, some 40,000
years ago, every human society has devised a creation myth to explain how humans came to be.
Creation myths are based on cultural beliefs that have been adopted as a legitimate explanation by a
society as to where we came from. The science of paleoanthropology, which also tries to create a
narrative about how humans came to be, is deeply technical. Paleoantropology is the science of the
evolution of humans, and it is the base of all research in that field. Humans have undergone many

Associated with these changes is a gradual reduction in the size of the face and jaws. In early
hominines, the face was large and positioned in front of the braincase. As the teeth became smaller
and the brain expanded, the face became smaller and its position changed. Thus, the relatively small
face of modern humans is located below, rather than in front of, the large, expanded braincase.
Evidence of immediate relatives of the human species begins about five million years ago with the
Australopithecus genus and leads in to the primitive Homo genus to modern humans. The nature of
the human s evolution before that is uncertain, but scientists have hypothesized some ideas. What they
do know is that between 7 and 20 million years ago, primitive apelike animals were widely distributed
on the African and later on the Eurasian continents. Although many fossil bones and teeth have been
found, the way of life of these creatures, and their evolutionary relationships to the living apes and
humans, remain matters of strong disagreement among scientists. One of these fossil apes, known as
Sivapithecus, appears to share many features with the living Asian great ape and the orangutan, whose
direct ancestor it may well be. None of these fossils, however, offers convincing evidence of being on
the evolutionary line leading to the hominid family generally. But they do help paint a picture of what
early human relatives could have been like. The convincing

Ethics Lab Aldo Leopold: Appreciating the Land Ethic
Please answer the following questions:
1. Please state the Land Ethic (quote directly): All ethics so far evolved rest upon a single premise that
the individual is a member of a community of interdependent parts. His instincts prompt him to
compete for his place in that community, but his ethics prompt him also to co operate (perhaps in
order that there may be a place to compete for). The land ethic simply enlarges the boundaries of the

widespread use of farming techniques that fight erosion and use little pesticide, and, an overall change
in our current wasteful consumption patterns. Even though it would be possible to adopt the Land

flowers of the autumn: they are the autumn itself. . . This man knows what he wants. He sees the scene
of his story exactly. He has an authoritative mind. (Ford 257)

And now she saw, and turned silent in seeing. For she had been wrong. She had said he was something
he was not; she had felt familiar with him. Whereas he was apart all the while, living as she never
lived, feeling as she never felt. (Lawrence 300)
This is Elizabeth s epiphany. Her husband, a seemingly familiar fixture in her life, was ultimately a
stranger to her. Her shock at realizing this suggests that some deep seated belief of hers has turned out
false. Perhaps Elizabeth incorrectly assumed that marriage implied a special connection between
husband and wife. Whatever the belief, this realization coupled with her husband s sudden death leads
to an acute sense of loneliness which is the most unique aspect of the story. If we can attribute the
unusual success of Odour of Chrysanthemums to those unique aspects which distinguish it from other
stories, then perhaps the unique, final moment is key evidence in the search for the reasons why Odour
of Chrysanthemums is successful.
Furthermore, the epiphany must be considered carefully, for it is of vital importance to the story and
its readers perceptions of it. The position of the epiphany in the story s structure clearly suggests its
importance. If the moment when Elizabeth discovers that her husband is dead

The Yorkshire Canal And The Industrial Revolution
Imagine looking outside your bedroom window in the morning smelling the bacon and eggs your
mom made you. You are peering out the window and witnessing the Yorkshire Canal being made. You
suddenly comprehend that the culture around you will be changing. It will lead to new innovations and
opportunities. The first canal ever made in Yorkshire England in 1700, (Canal Cruise). The canal was
advancing the Industrial Revolution by making it more accessible to get around.
First and foremost the canal helped progress the industrial revolution by making coastal trade faster.
Moving heavy goods at sea along the coast of Britain was much cheaper than moving the same items
along the road network, and coastal trade was a key aspect of Britain s economy, (Shirley Burchill).
Coastal trade was the cheapest way to transit goods, but it was also very slow. Between 1650 and
1750, before the industrial revolution half, a million tonnes of a canal was moved from Newcastle in
the north to London in the south, (Shirley Burchill). Therefore since the canal was a man made water
it caused coastal trade to be able to transport goods from the north to the south of England. The type of
goods transported was brick, coal, and iron, (The Industrial Revolution and the changing face of
Britain). Moreover, bricks were used for many things, such as for houses, barriers, and tombs. Bricks
were very important in the society because when they ran out of stones there ultimate result was

The Trials Of The Scottsboro Boys
The trials of the Scottsboro Boys, one of the most important judicial cases of the 1930 s arose when
nine African American young men rode the train in Scottsboro, Alabama in search for work. Instead of
finding job opportunities, they found themselves faced with death sentences after being wrongly
accused of raping two white teenage girls. The case lasted approximately six years due to campaigns
that claimed it dealt with racism and began to demand their right to a fair trial. Fiela s Child, published
in 1985, takes place during the mid nineteenth century, rural Africa, during which the struggles for
civil rights for African Americans continued. Fiela s Child tells the gripping story of a black woman,
Fiela Komoetie, and a white, three year old child, Benjamin, whom she finds on her doorstep and
raises him as one of her own. However, after nine years, census takers discover Benjamin and do not
accept the idea of leaving a white child with an African American family. They compel him to live
with a family of woodcutters, the Von Rooyens, who claim him as their son. Benjamin is follows an
identity search and fundamental changes affecting the families who claim him. During this journey he
undergoes a harsh transition from two distinct environments: the sunny, warm Wolwekraal to the
dense and foggy forest, each of which is relevant to Benjamin s emotional state: of happiness and
tranquility or fear and confusion.

The Difference Between Tangled and Rapunzel The Short Story
Tangled In many fairy tales, there is always a damsel in distress that is beautiful and the male
character always falls in love with her. In Rapunzel the short story, Rapunzel is put into a tower and
lives there most of her young life by her mother before her prince comes to recuse her. The difference
between Tangled and Rapunzel the short story is that, Rapunzel is the princess and her prince is
actually a thief, which ends up falling in love with her. Tangled illustrates how a naïve and beautiful
heroine, evil mother figure, and a shallow egotistical hero can make a fairy tale story end with love
and marriage.
As in many fairy tales we have grown up with, the characters are always beautiful or handsome, with
an evil mother that wants ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So ingrained is the image of women s beauty in fairy tales that it is difficult to imagine any that do not
highlight and glorify it. (722). Therefore, each story uses beauty to draw in a bigger audience because
no one wants to see an ugly duckling. This is how the media portrays women today, that they should
be skinny and beautiful and if they are not then no one will want to be like them; the young beautiful
women get more rewards. What that shows girls is that they must be a fairy tale character just to be
noticed, but what they do not understand is how naïve Rapunzel is to her surroundings because mother
Gothel will not let her out of the tower. Since Rapunzel has only been around her mother, she has no
concept of the outside world and the people in it. Rapunzel is naïve and does not want to disobey her
mother, but wants to see the floating lanterns for her birthday. Rapunzel is also selfless and does not
want to disappoint her mother, but she still craves the outside world. Mother Gothel is always telling
her that the people will only use her for her hair and that she will not be able to take care of herself.
When leaving the tower she has conflicting emotions and has a hard time deciding to go forward or to
just stay. She does not want mother Gothel to be heartbroken and disappointed in her decision to leave

Introduction
Schizophrenia is a brain disease. Many studies have been conducted regarding the brain localization of
schizophrenia. One study established that schizophrenia is characterized by significant loss in the grey
matter of the brain. The loss was detected to be up to 25% in some areas and the damage was seen to
begin at the parietal (outer) regions of the brain then spreading to the rest of the regions of the brain

Carole King Research Paper
Carole King is a musical icon in the world of 20th century popular music, and her longevity and
success as an artist have cemented her as one of the influential musicians out of every genre of music.
In this essay, I will examine how her musical style and female identity each played roles her
incredibly successful musical career. Carole King was originally named Carole Klein when she was
born in New York City on February 9, 1942 [1]. An accomplished pianist by age 10, Carole began
songwriting in her early teens [1]. Shortly after, she helped form a quartet called the Co Sines and
created her stage name, Carole King [1]. While attending Queens College, King met Gerry Goffin, her
first husband [1]. Shortly after King and Goffin s marriage, they ... Show more content on

of music, King has also worked with Alliance for the Wild Rockies since 1990, notably advocating for
the Northern Rockies Ecosystem Protection Act (NREPA) [1]. Since then, she has participated in
electoral politics campaigning for John Kerry in 2004 and Hillary Clinton in 2008

The president was Teddy Roosevelt, who enjoyed enormous popularity due to the general happiness of the American people. A thriving industry created many jobs for immigrants and others. A monumental event took place in 1901 when the New York Stock Exchange exceeded 2 million shares for the first time ever (World History Timeline 1900 1901 ). The tycoon J.P. Another major world event during the decade was the Russo Japanese War. Also around the globe, in the field of psychology, the great Sigmund Freud wrote a book called The Interpretation of Dreams (Magill 14). This book documented Freud s theory that dreams are meaningful and can be understood. Another great mind of that era was Albert Einstein. He came up with his theory of relativity in 1905(Magill 19). Great artists of the world were also creating some of their most brilliant work during this decade. Henri Matisse fought to find the artistic freedom he needed by creating the Fauvist movement in the early 1900 s(Pioch 2). Fauvism led to the larger movement called Expressionism, a term used to describe any art that raises subjective feelings above objective observations (Pioch 4). Georges Rouault was another pioneer of the Expressionist movement; he was a Frenchman who linked the decorative effects of Fauvism in France with the symbolic color of German Expressionism (Pioch 6). • 4. The American Black Bear ( Ursus Americanus ) Habitat can be considered as the optimal location where any one species can live, reproduce, and grow in an ecological time scale (Kellner et al. 1992). As the climatic conditions of the world are changing at a rapid pace, it is important to understand how species will adapt with the weather and learn to adjust their way of living. Understanding how a species survives in different climatic regions is very important for the future management of the species population and habitat. With this knowledge an individual could more efficiently manage their habitat to make it more suitable for the species to live under the given climatic conditions. The American black bear (Ursus americanus) is native to North America, more specifically Canada and northern and southeastern United States. Ursus americanus once ranged from Mexico and all throughout United States and into Canada, but as human population increased and climatic conditions have changed, Ursus americanus moved to locations with lower populations and cooler climates, which are northern North America as well as southeastern United States. Ursus americanus are found with the highest populations in Canada and northwestern United states where there are lower human populations, larger forests, and cooler climates. • 6. Approaches to Government Control on Expenditure 1. INTRODUCTION Money is central to the functioning of a government, revenue is generated by the imposition of taxes and the money received is then spent by the Commonwealth subject to appropriation. The scope of the governments capacity to spend public moneys has been a controversial issue for many years, due to the uncertainty surrounding the scope of the spending power. This essay will determine which approach to Government s control on expenditure is more favourable; the narrow approach, where Commonwealth s financial expenditure should be limited to expenses authorised by statute or the wide approach, where the Government should have unlimited spending power. In order to determine this it is necessary to discuss the different Court s conclusions and principles that apply in the interpretation of the relevant sections of the Constitution, specifically the appropriation provisions ss 81 and 83, executive powers provision s 61 and s 96 relating to State grants. This essay will also evaluate other cases to discuss the effects and developments they have had on determining the scope of Government s spending power. 2. SCOPE OF SECTION 81 2.1 Executive Government s Appropriation Powers Commonwealth Parliament makes money available to the Executive Government to spend on a range of matters. An appropriation of money is needed before Parliament can lawfully spend moneys received. This is usually done through Appropriation Acts and through annual budgets. Sections 81 and 83 ... In recent years, the rate of serious crimes has increased. The increase of crime is the result of less effective punishment. Dating back to early civilizations, capital punishment, also known as the death penalty, was viewed as an effective punishment. Yet today s society it is viewed as cruel and inhumane. I believe that capital punishment should be executed more often because; the rate of serious crime will decrease, free up prison space, and would serve as the ultimate warning. What is capital punishment? Capital punishment is the lawful way to take a person s life, once convicted of a serious crime, such as first degree murder. Some people agree it is the most appropriate punishment to all vile murder cases (Williams), but others call it cruel and unconstitutional. There are a variety of methods in the death penalty. The method used most would be lethal injections, due to its quickness, effectiveness, and pain less results. My first reason why I believe the death penalty should be executed more often is because it could possibly help the problem of overcrowding in prisons. States such as Texas and California, mainly suffer from this problem due to its vast population and crime rate. Instead of keeping inmates for life in prison, its better to execute the one s with the most serious crimes than to release them or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. The Mythology Of The Greek Mythology Nowadays people remember Ancient Greece somewhat, pieces here and there, taught briefly in your common high school global history class. What most people often forget is that the Ancient Greeks were and still are such a great influence towards our Western culture. Of course, they are not the only ones who have contributed to our knowledgeable society. Though, when it comes to the category of psychology I believe that the Ancient Greeks contributed the most, specifically with their mythology. A myth is defined as a traditional or legendary story, collection, or study. It is derived from the Greek word mythos, which simply means story. The Greek myths had many purposes to the Greeks such as teaching a moral lesson, explaining the origins of the world, explaining the origins of the gods and their relationships with humans, and why certain events occurred in nature. The authors of each myth were said to be divinely inspired by the Muses. The Muses were the goddesses of artistic inspiration. These Muses were thought to whisper in the ear of the author the adventures of the gods. Thus, myths held a sacred place in ancient Greece as they were seen to be divinely inspired and were meant to express an important message about life or the gods to the people. Not only was mythology important to the Ancient Greeks, but forward a couple millenniums later and a great psychologist was influenced by the importance of the myths as well Sigmund Freud. He was the first of seven children born to his parents, Jewish immigrants from Russia. His parents, hoping for the best for their children in the New World, pushed him hard for academic success. He became the psychologist who many people consider the founder of a movement called humanistic psychology. The movement developed as a revolt against behaviorism and psychoanalysis, the two most popular psychological views of the mid 1900 s. Humanistic psychologists believe individuals are controlled by their own values and choices and not by the environment, as behaviorists think, or by unconscious drives, as psychoanalyst believe. In our day to day life we exhibit these needs in our desires to marry, have a family be a part of a community, a member of church, brother part of a fraternity, a part of a gang or a bowling club. It is also a part of what we look for in a career. The esteem needs. Next we begin to look for a little self esteem. Maslow noted two versions of esteem needs, a lower one and a higher one. The lower one is the need for the respect of others, the need for status, fame, glory, recognition, attention, reputation, appreciation, dignity, even dominance. The higher form involves the need for self respect, including such feelings as confidence, competence, achievement, mastery, independence, and freedom. This is the higher form because, unlike the respect of others, once we have self respect, it is a much harder to lose. The negative version of these needs is low self esteem and weakness complexes. Maslow felt that Adler was onto something when he stated that these were at the roots of many, even of our psychological difficulties. In modern countries, many of us have what we need in regard to our physiological and safety needs. Sometimes we even have reasonable amount of love and sense of belonging. It is a respect that often seems hard to get! The next four levels Maslow calls deficit needs, or D needs. If you do not have an adequate amount of something it would make it a deficit .We feel ... Particularly, it is characterized as a romance set upon a backdrop of gang oriented violence. Various aspects of the song have warranted scrutiny; notably, it has been widely argued as to whether the song takes place in the cities of New Jersey or the streets of Uptown New York City, and whether the protagonists of the piece are affiliated with the mafia or street gangs. While the meaning behind the song does not change if the ambiguity was lost, it is worth taking into account. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The solo blends a nice balance of hope and uncertainty, but this vacillation is put to rest when the saxophone ends and piano begins: slow, soft, and gloomy. This darkness foreshadows the stanza that follows, in which the Magic Rat is killed and his girl is left on her own. Springsteen may have used this song as a social commentary, in which he shuts down the notion that gang life is glamorous and makes the point that it is not all that it is cracked up to be, particularly in the lyrics, The Rat s own dream guns him down ... / No one watches when the ambulance pulls away / Or as the girl shuts out the bedroom light ( Jungleland. ). It is clear that here Springsteen is debunking the idea that gangs are a support system, a family, that many believe them to be, as no one is there to mourn the loss of the Rat or support the Barefoot Girl in her time of need. Overall, Springsteen used this piece to convey a message to his audience that fit the time period, as gang violence of all kinds was on the rise, particularly in the areas for which he lived in and around. The odd slipper (Page 99 101), specifically addresses a lot of Mr. Palomar s perspectives on simple topics, it clearly shows that Mr. Palomar is a deep thinker and it conveys his habit of over complicating matters that are supposed to be simple, it is effective in highlighting the image that Mr. Palomar is a character who tends to isolate himself from the world by questioning it and examining every aspect of our being and stance in society. The odd slipper (Page 99) is about Mr. Palomar receiving a mismatched shoe while shopping in Bazaar. This passage displays the sudden division of Mr. Palomar s seemingly strong perspective into two different, opposing viewpoints. One is that at first, Mr. Palomar believed that by purchasing a mismatched shoe, he had started a chain of events that would cause consequences in the future: centuries can go by before the consequences of this mistake affect another visitor to that ancient bazaar. Every process of disintegration in the order of the world is irreversible; the effects, however, are hidden and delayed by the dust cloud of the big numbers, which contains virtually limitless possibilities of new symmetries, combinations, pairings. A Direct Link Between Carbon Dioxide And Global Warming Damon Matthews, a professor in Concordia University s Department of Geography, found a direct connection between carbon dioxide and global warming. Matthew s studies show that same global temperature increase, regardless of when or over what period of time the emission occurs. The effect of adding more carbon dioxide is predicted in the theory of greenhouse gases. Swedish scientist, Syante Arrhenius, first proposed the theory in 1896, based on earlier work by Fourier and Tyndall. At the same time, many scientists have reached the same conclusion. If we increase the amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, the Earth s temperature will increase. Energy is absorbed from the sun in the form of visible light and ultraviolet radiation. The earth then releases some of this energy as infrared radiation. Greenhouse gases in the atmosphere captures some of this heat, then re emit it in all directions. During this process, carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases keep the Earth s surface 33 degree Celsius warmer than it would be without them. According to an ongoing temperature analysis conducted by a scientist at NASA s Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS), the average global temperature on Earth has increased by about 0.8 degree Celsius. Since 1975, two thirds of the warming has occurred at a rate of roughly 0.15 0.20 degree Celsius per decade. Our lives involve the emission of theses dangerous greenhouse gases (Bushnell 25). Their young child is positioned on the mother s lap, its head turned towards the father. The colour scheme includes rich, dark colours for the attire of the couple, a vibrant red colour for the drapery behind the mother and similar shades of dark green for the mother s skirt, the child s skirt and the velvet fabric on the furniture approximate to the child s skirt. In addition to the facial features, Van Dyck diligently portrayed the fine lace ruff and sleeves of the man s attire and the tightly starched ruff of the woman (The State Hermitage Museum, Family Portrait ) in both portraits, pairing those with delicate hand gestures, present in both paintings. To boot, Van Dyck used the same landscape art as a background for the father s head and the same deep red coloured blinds behind the mother. The colour schemes and even the golden button details and the wooden handle on the furniture where the mother is sat are alike, too. One of the approaches, which is highly recommended for children to practise, is to do addition calculations mentally (working out calculations in their head) using various strategies, which is the focus of this essay. Tony Cotton (2013, p.109) states that developing mental approaches is more efficient to work out solutions to problems and helps children to become fluent in mental calculation. However, doing mental calculations, such as addition, can be challenging and confusing for some children. Therefore, introducing appropriate strategies (for example counting on, partitioning, bridging through 10) and using them to draw images or mark making will encourage children to see calculations in their heads and will allow them to use the strategy which is the most suited for them (Cotton, 2013, p. 110). Ian Thomson also suggests (I part 1 addition) that visual representation plays an important role in developing mental addition. for example, number lines help children to recognise place value and with prior knowledge of ordinal sense of numbers, it helps them to move from counting in ones to counting in larger steps, such as 2, 5, 10, 100 and so ... Throughout the story, Pangloss encounters suffering that contradicts his beliefs that this is the best possible world to live in. His struggle and suffering make us think that Voltaire was creating a satire of the beliefs of the time. With this era of time being known as the Age of Enlightenment, one might think that the intention of Voltaire was to represent extreme optimism in an era where you were supposed to think with rational and reason. ... Inter ethnic conflicts involving pastoralists have become widespread and increasingly severe in the northern region of Kenya. Conflict has often resulted in severe disruption of social and economic development. It has also constrained efforts to reduce or end poverty and sustain basic human rights. There has been a recurrence of violence where peace agreements have been sealed and an escalation of violence where conflicts have hitherto been latent. Most of these issues revolve around livestock ownership and to get access to scarce natural resources such as water. Although the pastoral conflicts have deep roots in history, culture and are generally attributed to their retrogressive and outdated practices, there is more to their current nature and dynamics. In recent years it is mainly due to the proliferation of modern small arms, banditry and predation, commercialization of livestock raiding, dispute over land tenure rights. Since at least the Upper Paleolithic era, some 40,000 years ago, every human society has devised a creation myth to explain how humans came to be.
