Creation vs Evolution Essay
There are two different beliefs of how everything came to be. One is creation. Creationalists believe in
what the Bible says which is that God created everything. Another is evolution. Evolutionalists believe
that there was a quot;big bang quot; which brought forth everything. In this paper, I m going to give
the arguments that prove evolution wrong.
One of the main things that evolutionalists have a problem with is time. They say that the world has
existed for millions and billions of years. There is a couple problems with this though. The sun shrinks
so much every day because it is burning up all its fuels. Scientists can calculate how big the sun was at
any point in history. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If they go back in time millions of years, the magnetic field would be too strong for anything to live
on earth, therefore this being another reason why the earth is not that old.
Evolutionists believe that humans and all other things evolved by mutation. Scientists can force
mutations with radiation. Every mutation that has been made has never been good. Mutations only
hurt the organism, not help it.
A main part in evolution is the dating of fossils. This makes a type of circular reasoning though
because of the archeologists and paleontologists. The archeologist dates the layers of the earth by the
fossils that were found in it and the paleontologist dates the fossils by the layer of the earth it was
found in.
Another problem comes up when you talk about fossils. If the world is millions and billions of years
old, there would be fossils at lots of different archeological levels. Archeologists have found that most
fossils are found at the same level, which would mean that some huge natural disaster happened and
killed millions of animals at one time. The Bible mentions of a great flood that wiped out millions of
animals and humans. This again proves evolution wrong.
A way to date old artifacts and bodies is by using the C 14

Essay on The Defense Mechanism
Defense mechanism, in psychoanalysis, any of a variety of unconscious personality reactions which
the ego uses to protect the conscious mind from threatening feelings and perceptions. Sigmund Freud
first used defense as a psychoanalytic term (1894), but he did not break the notion into categories,
viewing it as a singular phenomenon of repression. His daughter, Anna Freud, expanded on his
theories in the 1930s, distinguishing some of the major defense mechanisms recognized today.
Primary defense mechanisms include repression and denial, which serve to prevent unacceptable ideas
or impulses from entering the conscience. Secondary defense mechanisms generally appearing as an
outgrowth of the primary defense mechanisms include projection, ... Show more content on

The defenses can also give us insight into our own mental processes sometimes mental gymnastics or
contortions. All defenses involve distortions of reality; they are ways of feeling better by fooling
ourselves. If we realized these defenses in our lives, we might handle reality better. Almost all
adjustment books mention these defense mechanisms, even the writers who are arrogantly critical of
Freud. An excellent text about Sigmund and Anna Freud and the ego defenses is by Christopher Monte
(1980).
Repression: shoving thoughts and urges that are unacceptable or distressing into our unconscious. This
is what happens to the unacceptable urges of childhood the ego represses them. Taboo ideas, like
incest, would probably never get into consciousness or, if they got there, they d be quickly repressed.
Sometimes dreams or slips of the tongue or attempts at humor reveal our unconscious motives. For
example, if a teacher ridiculed you in class, you might dream he/she had a horrible auto accident. Or,
trying hard to say something nice to the teacher a few days later, you comment after class, each of
your lectures seems better than the next. Or, if you were unfortunate enough to be asked to introduce
your former teacher at a symposium and said, I d like to prevent huh I mean present Dr.___, some
might guess the truth. All these speculations about repressed feelings are just guesses.
Repression must be distinguished from

Ancient Aztec Art
The modern concept of art as a form of individual expression would not have made much sense to
most Aztec artists, particularly those in the visual arts painting, sculpture, and metalworking. For most
Aztec artists their works were not meant to express feelings or thoughts, nor were they meant to be
beautiful or pleasing to view. Art was almost entirely in the service of Aztec religion. Since the Aztec
common people could not read, art was the central means of conveying the ideas and stories of the
spirit world and communicating religious truths to them. Sculptures of the gods were necessary for
worship. These statutes, often made in the detailed image of one of the gods, existed in every Aztec
home. There were thousands in temples and in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first discovery of Olmec art was a colossal head, found in the area of Tres Zapotes in 1862. As of
2004 seventeen colossal heads have been located in several sites. These, like much Olmec art, were
designed to glorify the Olmec rulers. For the Olmecs, art was meant to give power to the shaman or
ruler. The massive altars made of enormous carved basalt blocks weighing up to 44 tons (40 metric
tons), for instance, are believed to have served as thrones for the Olmec kings. At the bottom and front
of each of these altars was a carved niche. A small human figure sits in the niche, holding either a

cave, or the entrance to the supernatural world and the ruler s ties to the gods. The process of entering

masters at stone carving, the Olmec were also highly skilled potters and stone cutters. Much of their

woman), shark, and caiman (a kind of crocodile found in Central and South America). Among Olmec
artifacts, archaeologists have found many life sized ceramic human infants made from white clay.

Types And Types Of Diabetes Essay
Abstract:
Type 2 diabetes is one of the most prevalent chronic disease that is present around the world. Type 2
diabetes is generally chaacterised by decrease in B cell mass function and decrease in the sensitivity of
insulin in the peripheral tissues. Beta cell dysfunctioning decrease the release of amylin and insulin in
response to increased blood glucose levels and this is thought to be affected by misfolded amylin
proteins where the cytotoxicity from amylin oligomers affects the function of islet beta cells via
several mechanisms and affecting the signaling pathway and apoptosis of beta cells.
Introduction:
There are 2 major types of diabetes in humans which revolves around the control of blood sugar level.
These 2 types of diabetes are type 1 and type 2. Type 1 diabetes is characterized by total destruction of
insulin secreting cells which is the worst case scenario in terms of diabetes progression and would
normally require insulin replacement therapy. However type 2 diabetes might be characterized by a
progressive deterioration of insulin secreting cells which could secrete insulin however it might not be
sufficient in glucose homeostasis or development of resistance to insulin in peripheral tissues. Type 2
diabetes is one of the most prevalent diseases around the world which could be responsible for other
complications such as heart attack, stroke, blindness, renal failure etc. Type 2 diabetes has been
hypothesized been caused by misfolded amylin species mediate

While claiming that clean air and water are the administrations main priorities, the official also

Imperialism Could Have Grown American Into A World Power
Imperialism could have grown American into a world power and still have respected different
cultures. Americans viewed the growing nation as a melting pot mixing all cultures into the American
culture , which was at the root, white supremacy. American imperialism was executed poorly by
bulldozing the cultures, if America valued and coexisted with the different cultures, an incredible
amount of culture and lives could have been saved. Expanding America should have been similar to
making a mixed salad, each ingredient is valued on its own and is bound together by a common
ingredient. This way cultures are appreciated and respected, brought together by American patriotism
of freedom. There is still some mixing from the nation, but it does ... Show more content on

the number of products sold through the increased markets offered in foreign countries because new
natural resources were obtained from the seized area. Yet, the process of Americans obtaining
Philippine crops would be manipulation, since the price given for the land to the previous owner
would be substantially lower than the market value of products of the crops. The Philippines had
countless untapped natural resources that the natives were not utilizing, which the American colonies

The way that I will conduct my research is to first explain how formal organizations have evolved
over the past century. Second, what differences were there in organizations a century ago, and
compare to today s organizations. And lastly I will also tell of the trends in today s formal
organizations in modern society. I will describe how each of the characteristics for formal
organizations will need to evolve or change in Micah s organization to be more open and flexible. And
I will give an overall prediction based on my research on how organizations like Micah s may evolve
in the future.

Within a bureaucratic organization communication is left on an impersonal note consisting of email,
telephone, or letters. It seems that succession planning is becoming a major trend among major
corporations. Many companies are strategically planning processes and corporate policies. This is not
just for the upper ranks; this is becoming a proactive management of the corporation s entire talent
pool. Leadership development, integrating with talent management, and career development
programs, succession planning is going beyond the reactionary replacement of employees. Effective
succession planning is making it possible for the success of a organizations talent, on demand, and as
needed, right now and in the future. The biggest hindrances to organizations are time and resources. It
seems that the day to day challenges of running these companies over power the organization s ability
to effectively engage in succession planning. Many other obstacles occur when management feels
threatened because they are asked to train their successors; this is also in addition to being able to
predict the needs of the company in the company in the future. Many places do not have the internal
career development programs to help employees take over available positions in the future or have

The human right to food has its contemporary origin within the U.N. Universal Human Rights
framework. Ensuring the right to adequate food and consequently the right to be free form hunger is

On May 12,1999 the UN Committee on Economic, Social and cultural Rights f its General Comment
12th Observes, Fundamentally the roots of the problem of hunger and malnutrition are not lack of
food but lack of access to available food, inter alia because of poverty, by large segments of world s
population. The General comment 12 identified that the fundamental distinction need to be made is
between availability and access. The General Comment 12 defined the right to adequate food thus;
The right to adequate food is realized when every man, woman and child, alone or in community with
others, has physical and economic access at all times to adequate food or means for its procurement.
[6]
The General Comment also explain that adequacy means that access must be taken of what is
appropriate under given circumstances Food Security implies food being accessible for both and
future generations. Thus as explained in paragraph 8 the core content of the right to adequate food
implies the availability of food in adequate quantity and quality sufficient to satisfy the needs of
individuals[7]. In 2000 the UN Millennium /declaration adopted at the largest ever gathering heads of

Writing Notes And Playing Video Games Essay
So you get home after a hard day at the office and you boot up your computer, but today you say to
yourself, I m tired of writing notes playing video games, I want to create something ! Your girlfriend
or your wife walk by you as you stare at the wall and she says, what are you dreaming about ? Then
you tell her that you really wanted to be a computer programmer instead of a shoe salesman. Then she
says to you, you should have gone to college a few years to learn a computer language ! But your 50
years old now and you don t have time and patience like you use to. Well, I ll tell you something,
every application that comes out on the market isn t created by someone who sits down in front of a
computer and punches in hours hours of c++ code or visual basic scripts. Hey! Let s face it, it s the
year 2007 and software technology is going forward faster that you think. You don t have to sit in front
of a computer for years cranking out a bunch of computer code just to make a light blink anymore!
The are applications out there in cyber space that will allow you to create self running applications
with color graphics, video, sound, music and animation in them by simply using a drag drop interface.
Maybe this doesn t mean much to you but, you can certainly use your brain to do more creating rather
than coding. Heck, I ve seen people create some pretty awesome applications, music players, small
games etc. And all without knowing a bit of computer language. I

A Research About The History Of Television Essay
Television History

Abstract
This study is an in depth research about the history of television. Many people know the history of the
lightbulb and who created; however, many people like myself have little to no knowledge about the
creator of the television, when it was created, and the purpose of it. This paper will discuss the history
of TV, manufacturing companies behind this magical device, consumer profile on the users of it,
global application, marketing strategies used to sell the product, and future predicaments on the
technological advances in the upcoming years.
Keywords: Television, consumers, device, technology, history, marketing, manufacture, product,
worldwide, and future.
My topic of choice is the television. I chose to write about it because it is the only technological
device my family does not use. Although we have a television, it is never on because other companies
like Netflix and news sites on the internet are taking over people s interest considering it is much more
portable. I thought it would be interesting to learn about the history of TV and the future of it. I have
witnessed how television screens went flat. If you enter any home in today s day and age you can see
that nobody owns a tube style television or CRT. It is interesting to see consumers racing to receive
the latest technological devices. What is more interesting is the way companies market to

Race And Class, Race, And Race
This article discusses the thought and preconceived notions that race is the major determining factor of
the health outcomes of persons living in Baltimore, an urban area. However, what was found is that
the place matters. Furthermore, what I was able to understand in greater depth is that there are deeply
rooted racial issues in the United States of America despite the legislation that has been passed to
eliminate such issues. In addition, what I was able to dissipate was that the researchers were not able
to determine which was more important or prevalent, race or place in seeking to accomplish health
equity.
In addition, the controversy was is it race and class or race or class . My conclusion is that it is both.
Race is unfortunately reflective of where you live. Despite, the Fair Discrimination Act of 1964 and
several laws both state and federal to prevent discrimination in housing it still exists. Housing
discrimination affects ones access to activities that can decrease chronic illnesses and the access to
good healthcare. I have some thoughts concerning this statement Racial segregation creates different
exposures to economic opportunity and to other community resources that enhance health . The reason
I have questions about this statement is because in the Jim Crow era until the late 1960 s there were
several communities of segregated Black populations that did very well economically. For example,

Protocol Stack, Subnetting And Results
Introduction In this report, I will discuss 3 sections: Protocol Stack, Subnetting and Results. Within
the protocol stack section, I will explain how the encapsulation process works within each layer of
both TCP/IP IOS/OSI models. The explanations will relate to the stages which occur within the
process of requesting a web page from the web server via PC0 over the Wide Area Network (WAN).
Within the subnetting section, I will produce a guide on subnetting an IP address. Within, the results
section, screenshots of composing and receiving email will be shown, also screenshots displaying the
webpage of web server and outputs of 2 show commands on routing and switching devices. Protocol

So, within the WAN connection, to request a webpage from PC0 located within the Birmingham site,
the DNS protocol is used to determine the domain name whereas the HTTP application protocol
manages the way a web server web client interact. When requesting for the webpage, DNS protocol
sends data to the next 2 layers of the OSI Model in order to firstly encrypt the data within the
Presentation layer and then the dialogue is organized and data exchange is managed within session
layer. Data remains as one block during these 3 stages. Within the next layer (Transport layer) of both
models, data is segmented and a port number is attached to each segment which identifies the
application which should receive the data on receiving device. Port numbers are attached when the
TCP header is added. TCP UDP are the 2 protocols functioning on this layer. TCP is used for reliable
connections whereas UDP is used for unreliable connection. When referring back to the scenario of
requesting a webpage, data will be segmented and port number 80 will be attached in order for web
server s HTTP service to receive the data then the segments will be forwarded on using the TCP
protocol (Jaro., 2010). Segments are encapsulated into packets when forwarded to Network Layer
(Internet Layer on TCP/IP Model), the Network layer implements logical addressing to the packets. In

Identity In Julie Dash s Film, Daughters Of The Dust

1. The three positions taken when decoding an image are said to be dominant, negotiated and
oppositional. Choose two images, one from the genre of documentary and one from advertising, and
explain the process of encoding and decoding to explain these three positions the viewer may take
when decoding your chosen images.
Stuart Hall s text, Encoding, Decoding identifies three positions one can take in decoding an image.
These three positions are dominant, negotiated and oppositional. In light of Hall s theory, this essay
will, firstly explain the process of encoding and decoding and secondly will decode the following two
images, Super Size Me by Morgan Spurlock, from the genre of documentary and the Louis Vuitton
advertisement featuring ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The viewer that approaches the documentary, Super Size Me , with a negotiated decoding position
identifies the codes of eating and indulging in fast food will eventually kill you. They identify that
there are high risks with eating McDonalds. The viewer will then modify and adapt the codes within
the documentary to reflect on their own position, experiences and interests. These positions can be of
acknowledgement that McDonalds is bad but it s not bad for everyone and that some people s bodies
can handle the intake of such a diet. Other modifications could be that if they ate fast food every day
that they would love it and would believe that they would be ok. They would acknowledge that yes
McDonalds is not good for one s health but it s not the only cause that made him so sick. They believe
that yes eating it was shown to be harmful to the body but that it will not happen to them because their
body is in good shape.
The decoder with the oppositional position will understand the connotative message of the image full
well but is in a direct oppositional relation to the dominant signifiers and therefore decodes the
message in a contrary way (Hall). The viewer that approaches the documentary, Super Size Me , with
an oppositional decoding

Current National Health Care Spending
Health Care Spending Health care spending in the United States is the highest then in any other
country. According to Kane (2012), the Organization for Economic Co operation and Development
(OECD) there are less physicians per person than in other OECD countries. For example there was 2.4
practicing physicians in the U.S. per 1,000 people. The average for OECD was 3.1, the U.S. fell well
below. In 2012 $8,233 was spent on health care per year per person, this was two and a half times

Quote Meaning/Significance
The magistrate are God fearing gentlemen, but merciful overmuch, that is a truth, added a third
autumnal matron. At the very least, they should have put the brand of a hot iron on Hester Prynne s
forehead. Madame Hester would have winced at that, I warrant me. But she, the naughty baggage,
little will she care what they put upon the bodice of her gown! Why, look you, she may cover it with a
brooch, or such like heathenish adornment, and so walk the streets as brave as ever!
Chapter 2, paragraph 5 According to the matron, she thinks that being publicly shamed is a bit too
merciful. Although this particular woman does not promote that Hester be executed, another woman
does. She also mentions that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Chapter 4, paragraph 18 Roger Chillingworth to Hester Prynne.
This quote almost makes you feel sympathy in a way for Roger Chillingworth. It s depressing.
Here on this wild outskirt of earth, I shall pitch my tent for, elsewhere a wanderer, and isolated from
human interests, I find here a woman, a man, a child, amongst whom and myself there exist the closest
ligaments. Chapter 4, paragraph 26 Roger Chillingworth to Hester Prynne.
We find out how much Roger and Hester have in common. They are both holding a deep secret, they
are unhappy and they both have a very desirable skill and both live on the outskirts of this Puritan
society.
Thus the young and pure would be taught to look at her, with the scarlet letter flaming on her breast, at
her, the child of honourable parents, at her, the mother of a babe, that would hereafter be a woman, at
her, who had once been innocent, as the figure, the body, the reality of sin.
Chapter 5, paragraph 1 Hester is now basically a symbol of sin in the Puritan town.
Here, she said to herself, had been the scene of her guilt, and here should be the scene of her earthly
punishment; and so, perchance, the torture of her daily shame would at length

Grunnings In The Potter
Mr. and Mrs. Dursley, of number four, Privet Drive, were proud to say that they were perfectly
normal, thank you very much. They were the last people you d expect to be involved in anything
strange or mysterious, because they just didn t hold with such nonsense. Mr. Dursley was the director
of a firm called Grunnings, which made drills. He was a big, beefy man with hardly any neck,
although he did have a very large mustache. Mrs. Dursley was thin and blonde and had nearly twice
the usual amount of neck, which came in very useful as she spent so much of her time craning over

My favorite quote from They Say/I Say belonged to the Agree But with a Difference section: In a

sometimes don t like to admit that anyone else has made the same point, seemingly beating them to

purposefully chose this quote because I believe that I can share some significant knowledge from my
field, and support this statement. Research interested in social psychology showed that since people

Philippine American War Essay
Philippine American War In the past centuries, colonialism has been a country s way of gaining great
amounts of wealth and cheap labor. The idea of colonialism has been heavily controversial, in terms of
today s standards. In the United States of America, Americans were also against this idea, since they
also have been under the harsh rule of the British empire. However, after the Spanish American war
ended in 1898 through the Treaty of Paris, the US government decided to own the colonies that have
been ceded by the Spanish. This decision marked the turning point in American history because it
violated their constitution and redefined what it means to be the upholders of democracy. In one of the
acquired colonies, the Philippines expected ultimate independence instead of a change of colonial
power. This allowed conflict to mount between the two countries, which prompted the Filipinos to
stage a revolt against the Americans. Unfortunately, because of the U.S. government s dedication to
establish its sovereignty over the islands, the desire of the Filipinos to gain their independence, and the
economic implications of the islands towards America, the two countries were unable to form a
compromise leading to the Philippine American War. This resulted to the death of more than 250,000
Filipinos and 4,200 U.S. troops. Ironically, this ugly encounter between the Americans and the
Filipinos brought peace and strong relations after the war that last until today. The Philippines

high responsibility and trying to manage and expand this infrastructure properly for present and future

In this present world, some emerging issues should be taken in consideration for future planning as
these issues are going to increase day by day in near future. These most important issues are: rising
population, increasing urbanization, growth in development and climate change. According to United

Each utility company or Government faces unique problems. Therefore an asset management plan
(AMP) that gives unique solution to the particular problems that the utility company faces due to
urbanization, while considering the current issues, technologies and time required for planning,
implementation, associated risks and challenges is a necessity to provide.
As an analysis to measure, how WLAM can improve the asset performance of water infrastructure,
this report evaluates a case study carried out by GHD, University of Sydney and p3iC, on one water
approach to urban water management at a city scale, namely that of the city of Sydney (CoS). The
study highlighted the challenges and the problems that are present in the water infrastructure of the
CoS [1].
This report shows where WLAM can be applied at the water infrastructure of the CoS to cope up with
the pressure exerted on the infrastructure for increasing urban population and suggests methods and
techniques that can be applied or utilized in doing so.
The line of sight approach will be developed as a guideline from corporate objectives to final

Crewdson works with a medium format camera, eight by ten colour negatives, each print is fifty nine

THE BANKRUPTCY OF LEHMAN BROTHERS Causes of the Failure There is no single cause
that led to the failure of Lehman Brothers. There were numerous causes and agents that led to the
disaster, including greedy Wall Street traders, the debt load of American households, the Fed s action,
rating agencies, and last but not least, the

deregulation (Morin and Maux, 2011). These factors were responsible for the crisis of credit and not
solely the failure of Lehman Brothers. Still, the market of Credit Default Swaps was one of the biggest
factors dedicating to the catastrophe, if not the biggest one as Lehman was heavily involved in that
market. In explaining the sub prime market, Morin and Maux (2011) explain that sub prime loans refer
to inferior quality (sub) real estate loans whose higher risk of payment default is countered by the
bank with a higher interest rate. These mortgage loans, granted at variable
rates, were extended to American households with modest incomes (p. 41). Morin and Maux (2011)
also discuss Lehman s involvement in that particular market as well as how Lehman caused erosion in
that market at the same time: The bank is accused of having sold Collateralized Debt Obligations
(CDOs) to its clients and taking short positions that effectively eroded the value of these

The Human Race Capturing Marine Animals
The earliest records of the human race capturing marine animals, specifically fish, dates back over
40,000 years to the Upper Paleolithic time period (Endangered). Initially, fishing and harvesting
aquatic animals was for the sole purpose of survival and means of finding food. Fast forward 40,000
years and fishing has shifted from a necessity to big business, wiping out the majority of oceanic
resources and setting the marine apocalypse for the year 2048, when ecologists predict all species of
fish will have gone extinct. Oceanic resources are dwindling at a rapid rate. The pending bioethical
question is this: should further restrictions on fishing be implemented in the global fishing industry, as
well as sport fishing? The answer is still up for debate.
Because of overfishing, populations of saltwater fish have dwindled to surprisingly low numbers. But
what of the few populations of people that still depend on fishing for food? And what of people who
fish for sport, but only keep their legal limit? And how will placing restrictions affect both regional
and global seafood economies? In 2005, 24.1 million tons of seafood were available for consumption
in North America alone, with an astounding 107 million tons worldwide (Overfishing). And how
would restricting fisheries affect worldwide health? Nearly 16% of the world s protein consumption is
provided by fisheries. These questions have driven bioethical debates since the early 1960s and remain
to be dangerously unsolved and

Social Reaction Theory And Feminist Theory Of Crimes
Social Reaction Theory and Feminist Theory of Crimes are the subject theories I am going to review,
examine, and explain. I will be discussing the evolution of social reaction and labeling theory, which
is mainly concerned with how individuals personal identities are highly influenced by the way that
society has a tendency to classify them as offenders. I will also be reviewing the various forms of
feminist theories, which began as reactions to the lack of reasonable theorizing about why females
commit crime and why the tend to be treated far more contradictorily by the criminal justice system.
Here, I will explain these various theories with more attention on how they thoroughly transformed
the way that the crime and law were viewed. Both theories had become popular in the 1960 s and the
1970 s due to the society looking for theories that fixed the blame for criminal offending on
government authorities. These theories also both share a common theme, by accentuating the use of
the criminal justice system to target or label certain types of groups such as lower class, minorities,
and women, as criminals while protecting the ones with power such as white males.
Theoretical Background: Social reaction theory is also referred to as labeling theory, which is mainly
classified by how personal identities are influenced by the way authority categorizes the offenders.
The labeling results in individuals authenticating their place as criminals by developing the

Essay Comparison of Three First World War Poems
Comparison of Three First World War Poems
The three poems that I will be studying in this essay are Dulce Et Decorum Est by Wilfred Owen,
Comrades: An Episode by Robert Nichols and Who s For The Game? by Jessie Pope. These poems are
about the First World War and two of them seem to have a negative attitude criticising and
downgrading the so called spectacular experience of the First World War. In Dulce Et Decorum Est
Wilfred Owen seems to mention good aspects of the War but compares them to low class tragic
events. In Comrades: An Episode Robert Nichols describes the event of a soldier being badly injured
and eventually dying. It describes what the corporals and soldiers did and how ... Show more content

In the second poem, Comrades: An Episode the same picture comes to mind by using different
techniques. The poem is written in the style of a story, which gives the writer more opportunity to
include descriptions and details. In this poem the narrator is the leader of a group of men and he
mentions names and, as he knows his men so well, he can create and describe vivid pictures of them,
such as Not to see them: Wilkinson, Stubby, Grim. Other ways he describes his men is by the speech
they use regularly. Who s For the Game? shows the thoughts that Jessie Pope has towards the war; she
views the war as very straight forward and simple; join the army, fight, win, then go home. There is
some reality points in the text even though they are understated, such as;
It won t be a picnic not much ,
and
Come back with a crutch .
This second quote is very misleading, Pope is saying that a crutch is the about the worst thing that
could happen when over a million Englishmen died fighting for their country. She uses metaphors in
her poem including the title of the poem. In the title Who s For The Game? was has been compared to
an enjoyable experience making the war seem less scary, and making people become more eager to
go.

Human Due Diligence
Human Due Diligence
The success of most acquisitions hinges not on dollars but on people (Harding, Rouse, 2007). It is
often said that people are the most significant and important resource of any organization, yet due
diligence sometimes focuses on the corporate, financial, and legal dimensions of the deal while
ignoring the people issues. Financial motivation are only a small part of the picture in most mergers,
while success and failure of consolidations are profoundly connected to people involved so human due

Factors that Caused the Demographic and Economic Decline...

rife with economic prosperity, the city of Detroit, Michigan filed for the largest municipal bankruptcy
case in U.S history on July 18, 2013 (Fletcher, 2013). Over recent decades, Detroit has been the victim
of both economic and demographic decay. To put the magnitude of the city s desolation in perspective,
during the middle of the twentieth century, the city s population was approximately 1,850,000, making
it, at the time, the fifth most populous city in the nation. As of 2013 census data, however, the city has

By examining the relationship between the fall of the city s industry chiefly the automotive industry
and racial conflict, this essay serves to highlight the factors that caused both the demographic and
economic decline of Detroit in regards to Marxist theory. Karl Marx (1818 1883) was a German
sociologist and philosopher renowned for his analyses of political economy. According to his theories,
capitalism is dependent on exploitation. That is, the working class (the proletariat) works for the
owning class (the bourgeoisie), but rather than receive a compensation equivalent to its actual labor, or
production value, the working class is underpaid, with a surplus, or profit, pouring into the pockets of
the owners. Although the proletariat receives the short end of the stick, so to speak, its members are
forced to sell labor power to the bourgeoisie in order to receive wages necessary for survival. Thus,
conflict between the owners and workers, known as mutual antagonism, is inherit in the capitalist
system, as workers fight for higher wages and shorter working days while owners attempt to combat
these demands to maximize profit. Marx s theory of history, known as dialectical materialism, is
focused on the notion that societies evolve through a

The Impact Of Long Women On Education And Sports
Forty three years. That s how long women have had equality in education and sports. Due to the
passage of Title IX, also known as one of the Education Amendments of 1972, it is illegal for
educational institutions to discriminate on the basis of sex which includes all academic and extra
curricular programs such as sports. Title IX explicitly gives women equal rights, stating no person in
the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits
of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal
financial assistance (Ford Title IX ). The women s movement during the late 1960s and 1970s
succeeded in focusing national attention on the gender based inequalities that restricted the lives of
American women. In the past women have been treated submissively and were not allowed much
independence. Marriages were arranged and women were expected to be care takers of the household
and children. Women did not typically work outside of the home or the domestic sphere.
Organizations like the National Organization for Women (NOW) were created to promote civil rights,
and with the passage of Title IX, women s status in society improved. Although Title IX is widely
known for initiating equality in women s sports, its original purpose was to end gender discrimination
in education. In fact, the words athletics and sports are not even stated in the aforementioned
amendment. One positive

laboratory studies in the 1940 s. It is considered one of the earliest behavioral medicine treatments ,
but did not gain much popularity until the 1950 s. It was found to be a mixture of many scientific
experiments such as altered states of consciousness and operant conditioning. These findings were
combined to form the now popular treatment. Although scientists do not necessarily know how exactly
biofeedback works, it is thought that because of the non focused, non goal oriented state of
consciousness, subjects are able to release physiological tensions, soften interpersonal relating, and

These may include migraine headaches, incontinence, high blood pressure, ADHD, epilepsy, and
anxiety. In order for these to be treated, therapists may use EMG(electromyography), thermal
biofeedback, or neurofeedback/electroencephalography(EEG) or a combination of the three.
Electromyography gauges muscle electrical activity, thermal biofeedback measures skin temperature,
and electroencephalography assesses brain wave activity. Each one of these technologies are used to
treat different conditions. EMG is used to treat headaches, anxiety, incontinence and high blood
pressure since these disorders can be related to muscle tension. Thermal biofeedback is utilized mainly
to help with headaches because when the body is under stress, the fight or flight response is activated,
which lowers the body s temperature on the appendages. EEG is used to treat attention deficit
hyperactivity disorder and epilepsy. The brainwaves are measured and then can be controlled by the

Communism In Jennifer Rich s The Garden Party
The Garden Party was one of her most prominent works that displayed all these things that the critics
have talked about. Jennifer Rich says that The Garden Party, was the work of the growth of a young
character. It shows much improvement into the life of the character which it showcases. It is also
believed that the Marxist movement had a huge impact on the writing of this story. The story starts out
very serene and calm and then turns into a somewhat type of chaos. She used this short story to
express her feelings and how she felt on the matter of death. She often uses comical resolutions that
offer understanding although they are often very ridiculous. She demonstrates the different classes of
people in this story and how they carry on their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Miss Brill is a spinster who is a very lonely woman who doesn t have much more than the students she
teaches. As in some of her other important works she is a lonely character. The character s appearance
in Miss Brill greatly reflects the thoughts and issues that could have been going on in her life. Robert
Peltier notices how well she conveys herself while she was a young writer. He gives examples as to
how she gives great detail into the lives of her characters in this story. Miss Brill has a very boring
life, she goes through the same routine every single day and when she goes against the flow of things
everything falls apart. It shows how she is not contempt with the life she has and tries to do something
new and shows her the life she has is much better than anything else she could ve been doing. This is a
great example of her use in epiphany, which also somewhat shows up in The Garden Party. The same
type problem is prominent in The Garden Party, where the girl is not contempt with the life she has
and finally comes to a realization where other people have it much worse than she does. Clare Hanson
and Andrew Gurr agree that Miss Brill is a very emotional story that has many good points. They also
agree like in many other stories on how she uses symbolism to express their feelings ( Short Stories

Legal Age Of Sexual Consent
Legal Age of Sexual Consent
Taylor Obert PSY 200B
March 16, 2017
Introduction Age of sexual consent refers to the age when an individual can consent to sexual activity.
Sexual activities are defined differently by countries, with there even being a difference between the
United States and Canada who share a border. The ages of consent also vary among countries and also
by individual state in the United States. Engaging in sexually activities with individuals that are not
the legal age of consent can result in criminal charges such as statutory rape, but many places have
exceptions. These exceptions include certain gaps in age varying place to place, as well as the defense
of not knowing the actual age of the victim. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The states with the highest age of consent, which is 18 years old, are: Arizona, California, Delaware,
Florida, Idaho, North Dakota, Oregon, Tennessee, Utah, Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming (Barnett,
2016).
United States Age Gap Provisions and Mistake of Age Defense In some cases where the
individual/victim is not the legal age of consent and/or the defendant is over the age of 18 than there
may be an age gap provision of the law in the state that makes the offense less of a crime because of
the age gap, but it can still be prosecuted. The states that have the age gap provisions are: Alabama,
Alaska, Colorado, Connecticut, Washington DC, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Iowa,
Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Minnesota, Mississippi, Montana, New Hampshire, New
Jersey, New Mexico, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Utah, Vermont,
Washington, West Virginia, and Wyoming. No age gap provision in any state allows the defendant to
be more than 4 years older than the other party ( Age of Consent Chart , 2017). In the United States,
there are provisions called Romeo and Juliet Laws, which were made known by Texas. The purpose of
the Romeo and Juliet Laws is to prevent an individual from being charged with a criminal offense
and/or having to register as a sex offender because they engage in sexual

Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells Essays
Describe: (i) how induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) are isolated (ii) how iPSCs can be used to
study human development (iii) how iPSCs can be used to model human disease and to develop
therapies for degenerative disease i) iPSCs are adult stem cells that have been genetically
reprogrammed to behave like the pluripotent stem cells found in embryos, i.e. can differentiate into
any cell type in the human body. This was first completed successfully in mice in 2006 by Shinya
Yamanaka and his team (Takahashi et al., 2006), then in humans in 2007 both by Yamanaka
(Takahashi et al., 2007), and by James Thomson and his team in America independently (Yu, et al.,

964 965). ii) Human embryonic stem cells (ESCs) are pluripotent cells isolated from blastocysts, and
are highly useful in studying human development (Itzkovitz Eldor et al., 2000 p. 88). Although the
National Institute of Health states that it is not known if iPSCs and embryonic stem cells differ in
clinically significant ways , iPSCs are already being used to achieve the same results as ESCs in some
applications without the use of embryos, removing the ethical concern associated with ESCs (National
Institutes of Health, 2009). ESCs are capable of differentiating into all cell types, and can be used as a
source of differentiated cells. In the report by Itskovitz Eldor et al., they discuss the induced
differentiation of ESCs in suspension into embryoid bodies, including the three embryonic germ
layers. The authors state that the ability to induce formation of human embryoid bodies that contain
cells of neuronal, hematopoietic and cardiac origins will be useful in studying early human embryonic
development (Itzkovitz Eldor et al., 2000 p. 88). This is invaluable in terms of studying the early
stages of human foetal development. As iPSCs are better understood, and the methods of generating
them are refined, they have the potential to play an increasingly integral role in our study of human
development, in place of ESCs. In the report by Itzkovitz Eldor et al. it is noted that the ability

alcatraz
An icon of power and strength, Alcatraz has become the single most recognizable symbol of American
society. Situated in the San Francisco Bay, one can t help but be drawn to the rocky shore, the dark
walls, and the lone light tower sanding cold against a picturesque sunset imagining what it would have
been like to be incarcerated in one of the world s most infamous prisons.
Discovered in 1775 by the Spanish explorer Juan Miguel de Ayala, La Isla de los
Alcatraces was little more than a rock inhabited by a group of pelicans from which the island bears its
name (Alcatraces meaning pelicans in Spanish). However, in
1847 the US government began to look at it as much more. Strategically placed at the mouth of the

Many prisoners worked as servants and maids for the many families that were required to live on the
island. A few were even commissioned to baby sit young children who lived on the island. Flowers
and shrubs were imported to help beautify the rocky island. Many inmates, because of this, were
allowed their own private gardens. In the 1920 s prisoners were allowed to build a baseball field on
which different inmate teams played in their own uniforms. On Friday nights hundreds of people
would come from the mainland to see the exciting Alcatraz Fights which pitted two inmates against
each other in a boxing type match.
With the rise of organized crime in the 1930 s Alcatraz went through some dramatic changes. The
deteriorating cell house was refurbished with electronically controlled cell doors, metal detectors, gun
galleries which allowed guards an elevated view of the entire cell house, permanently mounted tear
gas canisters in the ceiling of the dining hall, and tool proof bars. New cells nicked named Strip cells
and The Hole were built to house those inmates who required complete isolation. A strict silence rule
was instituted and those who violated it could be put in isolation for up to eight days. The once merry
days of baseball games and gardening were over.
In 1963, due to the exorbent cost of running an island prison, Alcatraz was officially closed.
Arguments quickly arose over what to do with the eyesore that the prison had become.

The Ethics Of Non Voluntary Active Euthanasia
The idea of non voluntary active euthanasia is not such a disaster, as euthanasia itself. The problem
that comes into consideration is when and why it should be used. When euthanasia is non voluntary
and active, such as on a patient with dementia, the ethical decision comes into play if there are
episodes of clarity and the patient has or has not mentioned what they want to do at the end of life
situations. Principles of deontology suggest duty and obligation. A medical professional in such
situations have an obligation to fulfill the patient s wishes. The nature of their obligation does not
sway based on what they personally think. Patients with dementia have some moments of clarity, but
because their brains are still deteriorating, non ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Kant s explanation should determine where non voluntary active euthanasia falls on that spectrum.
Morally permissible looks at what is allowed by people from a moral perspective. This differs in a
different place. In the UK, euthanasia, in general, is moral. It can be broken down using Kant s theory
by saying, why has the doctor performed non voluntary active euthanasia, or why will the doctor
perform non voluntary active euthanasia? . By applying Kant s theory, a doctor performing this duty is
doing so morally. A patient ridden with dementia, cannot make medical decisions. The doctor has
performed this procedure because of medical obligation. The doctor will perform the procedure
because of the condition of the patient. It is permissible morally because the patient himself cannot
deny the obligation the doctor should perform the procedure based on the patient s condition. For the
sake of the doctor s duty, he or she is obeying moral law based on the virtue of his or her morality. In
order to fully understand why the doctor must perform the non voluntary active euthanasia on a
patient with dementia who has moments of clarity, there is another understanding that must be
accomplished. If the doctor did not perform this same procedure on this same patient what would
happen?

The Americans suspended operations in the fall of 1942, leaving the
NHL with just six teams. Despite various efforts to initiate expansion after the war, including
attempted restarts of the Maroons and Americans franchises, the league s membership would remain at
six teams for the next twenty five seasons.
By the 1960s, however, it was becoming obvious that if the NHL did not expand, a rival league would
take its place. In the
United States the American Football League was starting to become very successful at the time,
convincing many people that a rival hockey league would also succeed. In particular, the Western
Hockey League had moved into a number of major Pacific Coast markets, and had accumulated strong
rosters with talent barred from the static rosters of the NHL. This, plus the prospect of television
contracts, convinced the six owners to go ahead with expansion.

Charles Darwin, The Father Of Evolution
Layden Butler
Mrs.Warrem
Bio I dual credit
14 December 2015
Evolution
Charles Darwin, the father of evolution, wisely stated, It is not the strongest of the species that
survive, nor the most intelligent, but the one most responsive to change. This statement directly
reflects my opinion on the theory of evolution and that of Charles Darwin. Our species has evolved
over time and adapted to the conditions that faced us. Charles Darwin, his background and
discoveries, along with the evolution of human beings over time prove with great detail just how
necessary and realistic evolution is. In most cases, the argument about evolution brings up one s
religious values. However, the clear science behind the many theories of evolution outweighs and all
religious arguments about this topic. Humans, and many other species, have distinct connections to the
organisms of our past and will continue to change in order to for the future of our civilization.
Darwin s Background
To start off, Darwin s childhood and background are much different than what may be expected.
Charles Darwin was born on the 12th of February, 1809. Darwin s birthplace was is Shrewsbury,
England to Robert and Susannah Darwin. His grandfather, Erasmus Darwin, was very interested in the
ideas of evolution and was well know during that time. Even though Charles never met Erasmus, he
shared alot of the same interests. He was the fifth child in his family, and his parents were well off in
the terms of money during

teenagers who could not catch up with the expectations of masculinity (Alegre 89). Throughout the
course of both movies, both main characters, Conan and Max, follow the path of a Hero s Journey.
The Hero s Journey is a common pattern that the majority of hero stories and myths include, it can be

The Hero s Journey 1). There are many elements that make up this pattern, including the ordinary
world, the call to adventure, entering the unknown, tests, and the journey home ( The Hero s Journey 1

out in countless ways, for example, he does not wear much clothing like other people in the movie.
Besides standing out because of his clothing, he also stands out because of his physical strength. At
the same time, Max stands out in a different way. Max just wants to obtain the gas and go about his

  • 2. Creation vs Evolution Essay There are two different beliefs of how everything came to be. One is creation. Creationalists believe in what the Bible says which is that God created everything. Another is evolution. Evolutionalists believe that there was a quot;big bang quot; which brought forth everything. In this paper, I m going to give the arguments that prove evolution wrong. One of the main things that evolutionalists have a problem with is time. They say that the world has existed for millions and billions of years. There is a couple problems with this though. The sun shrinks so much every day because it is burning up all its fuels. Scientists can calculate how big the sun was at any point in history. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If they go back in time millions of years, the magnetic field would be too strong for anything to live on earth, therefore this being another reason why the earth is not that old. Evolutionists believe that humans and all other things evolved by mutation. Scientists can force mutations with radiation. Every mutation that has been made has never been good. Mutations only hurt the organism, not help it. A main part in evolution is the dating of fossils. This makes a type of circular reasoning though because of the archeologists and paleontologists. The archeologist dates the layers of the earth by the fossils that were found in it and the paleontologist dates the fossils by the layer of the earth it was found in. Another problem comes up when you talk about fossils. If the world is millions and billions of years old, there would be fossils at lots of different archeological levels. Archeologists have found that most fossils are found at the same level, which would mean that some huge natural disaster happened and killed millions of animals at one time. The Bible mentions of a great flood that wiped out millions of animals and humans. This again proves evolution wrong. A way to date old artifacts and bodies is by using the C 14 ... • 3. Essay on The Defense Mechanism Defense mechanism, in psychoanalysis, any of a variety of unconscious personality reactions which the ego uses to protect the conscious mind from threatening feelings and perceptions. Sigmund Freud first used defense as a psychoanalytic term (1894), but he did not break the notion into categories, viewing it as a singular phenomenon of repression. His daughter, Anna Freud, expanded on his theories in the 1930s, distinguishing some of the major defense mechanisms recognized today. Primary defense mechanisms include repression and denial, which serve to prevent unacceptable ideas or impulses from entering the conscience. Secondary defense mechanisms generally appearing as an outgrowth of the primary defense mechanisms include projection, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The defenses can also give us insight into our own mental processes sometimes mental gymnastics or contortions. All defenses involve distortions of reality; they are ways of feeling better by fooling ourselves. If we realized these defenses in our lives, we might handle reality better. Almost all adjustment books mention these defense mechanisms, even the writers who are arrogantly critical of Freud. An excellent text about Sigmund and Anna Freud and the ego defenses is by Christopher Monte (1980). Repression: shoving thoughts and urges that are unacceptable or distressing into our unconscious. This is what happens to the unacceptable urges of childhood the ego represses them. Taboo ideas, like incest, would probably never get into consciousness or, if they got there, they d be quickly repressed. Sometimes dreams or slips of the tongue or attempts at humor reveal our unconscious motives. For example, if a teacher ridiculed you in class, you might dream he/she had a horrible auto accident. Or, trying hard to say something nice to the teacher a few days later, you comment after class, each of your lectures seems better than the next. Or, if you were unfortunate enough to be asked to introduce your former teacher at a symposium and said, I d like to prevent huh I mean present Dr.___, some might guess the truth. All these speculations about repressed feelings are just guesses. Repression must be distinguished from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Ancient Aztec Art The modern concept of art as a form of individual expression would not have made much sense to most Aztec artists, particularly those in the visual arts painting, sculpture, and metalworking. For most Aztec artists their works were not meant to express feelings or thoughts, nor were they meant to be beautiful or pleasing to view. Art was almost entirely in the service of Aztec religion. Since the Aztec common people could not read, art was the central means of conveying the ideas and stories of the spirit world and communicating religious truths to them. Sculptures of the gods were necessary for worship. These statutes, often made in the detailed image of one of the gods, existed in every Aztec home. There were thousands in temples and in ... As of 2004 seventeen colossal heads have been located in several sites. These, like much Olmec art, were designed to glorify the Olmec rulers. For the Olmecs, art was meant to give power to the shaman or ruler. The massive altars made of enormous carved basalt blocks weighing up to 44 tons (40 metric tons), for instance, are believed to have served as thrones for the Olmec kings. At the bottom and front of each of these altars was a carved niche. A small human figure sits in the niche, holding either a were jaguar on his lap or a cord in his hand, or both. The niche, according to experts, represents a cave, or the entrance to the supernatural world and the ruler s ties to the gods. The process of entering into the otherworld the world of the supernatural is central to most Olmec art. Though they were masters at stone carving, the Olmec were also highly skilled potters and stone cutters. Much of their pottery depicts nagual transformations the jaguar in particular, but also the harpy (part bird, part woman), shark, and caiman (a kind of crocodile found in Central and South America). • 5. Types And Types Of Diabetes Essay Abstract: Type 2 diabetes is one of the most prevalent chronic disease that is present around the world. Type 2 diabetes is generally chaacterised by decrease in B cell mass function and decrease in the sensitivity of insulin in the peripheral tissues. Beta cell dysfunctioning decrease the release of amylin and insulin in response to increased blood glucose levels and this is thought to be affected by misfolded amylin proteins where the cytotoxicity from amylin oligomers affects the function of islet beta cells via several mechanisms and affecting the signaling pathway and apoptosis of beta cells. Introduction: There are 2 major types of diabetes in humans which revolves around the control of blood sugar level. These 2 types of diabetes are type 1 and type 2. Type 1 diabetes is characterized by total destruction of insulin secreting cells which is the worst case scenario in terms of diabetes progression and would normally require insulin replacement therapy. However type 2 diabetes might be characterized by a progressive deterioration of insulin secreting cells which could secrete insulin however it might not be sufficient in glucose homeostasis or development of resistance to insulin in peripheral tissues. Type 2 diabetes is one of the most prevalent diseases around the world which could be responsible for other complications such as heart attack, stroke, blindness, renal failure etc. Type 2 diabetes has been hypothesized been caused by misfolded amylin species mediate ... Americans viewed the growing nation as a melting pot mixing all cultures into the American culture , which was at the root, white supremacy. American imperialism was executed poorly by bulldozing the cultures, if America valued and coexisted with the different cultures, an incredible amount of culture and lives could have been saved. Expanding America should have been similar to making a mixed salad, each ingredient is valued on its own and is bound together by a common ingredient. American imperialism expanded the number of products sold through the increased markets offered in foreign countries because new natural resources were obtained from the seized area. Yet, the process of Americans obtaining Philippine crops would be manipulation, since the price given for the land to the previous owner would be substantially lower than the market value of products of the crops. The Philippines had countless untapped natural resources that the natives were not utilizing, which the American colonies would overuse, leaving nothing for the inhabitants. Albert J. Beverage observed the abundant amount of mineral deposits and unknown crops, during his six month Philippines trip in 1899. Writing Notes And Playing Video Games Essay So you get home after a hard day at the office and you boot up your computer, but today you say to yourself, I m tired of writing notes playing video games, I want to create something ! Your girlfriend or your wife walk by you as you stare at the wall and she says, what are you dreaming about ? Then you tell her that you really wanted to be a computer programmer instead of a shoe salesman. Then she says to you, you should have gone to college a few years to learn a computer language ! But your 50 years old now and you don t have time and patience like you use to. Well, I ll tell you something, every application that comes out on the market isn t created by someone who sits down in front of a computer and punches in hours hours of c++ code or visual basic scripts. Hey! Let s face it, it s the year 2007 and software technology is going forward faster that you think. You don t have to sit in front of a computer for years cranking out a bunch of computer code just to make a light blink anymore! The are applications out there in cyber space that will allow you to create self running applications with color graphics, video, sound, music and animation in them by simply using a drag drop interface. Maybe this doesn t mean much to you but, you can certainly use your brain to do more creating rather than coding. Heck, I ve seen people create some pretty awesome applications, music players, small games etc. And all without knowing a bit of computer language. I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. A Research About The History Of Television Essay Television History Marwa Mekdashi California State University, Long Beach October 3, 2016 Abstract This study is an in depth research about the history of television. Many people know the history of the lightbulb and who created; however, many people like myself have little to no knowledge about the creator of the television, when it was created, and the purpose of it. This paper will discuss the history of TV, manufacturing companies behind this magical device, consumer profile on the users of it, global application, marketing strategies used to sell the product, and future predicaments on the technological advances in the upcoming years. Keywords: Television, consumers, device, technology, history, marketing, manufacture, product, worldwide, and future. My topic of choice is the television. I chose to write about it because it is the only technological device my family does not use. Although we have a television, it is never on because other companies like Netflix and news sites on the internet are taking over people s interest considering it is much more portable. I thought it would be interesting to learn about the history of TV and the future of it. I have witnessed how television screens went flat. If you enter any home in today s day and age you can see that nobody owns a tube style television or CRT. It is interesting to see consumers racing to receive the latest technological devices. What is more interesting is the way companies market to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Race And Class, Race, And Race This article discusses the thought and preconceived notions that race is the major determining factor of the health outcomes of persons living in Baltimore, an urban area. However, what was found is that the place matters. Furthermore, what I was able to understand in greater depth is that there are deeply rooted racial issues in the United States of America despite the legislation that has been passed to eliminate such issues. In addition, what I was able to dissipate was that the researchers were not able to determine which was more important or prevalent, race or place in seeking to accomplish health equity. In addition, the controversy was is it race and class or race or class . My conclusion is that it is both. Race is unfortunately reflective of where you live. Despite, the Fair Discrimination Act of 1964 and several laws both state and federal to prevent discrimination in housing it still exists. Housing discrimination affects ones access to activities that can decrease chronic illnesses and the access to good healthcare. I have some thoughts concerning this statement Racial segregation creates different exposures to economic opportunity and to other community resources that enhance health . The reason I have questions about this statement is because in the Jim Crow era until the late 1960 s there were several communities of segregated Black populations that did very well economically. Data remains as one block during these 3 stages. Within the next layer (Transport layer) of both models, data is segmented and a port number is attached to each segment which identifies the application which should receive the data on receiving device. The idea of colonialism has been heavily controversial, in terms of today s standards. In the United States of America, Americans were also against this idea, since they also have been under the harsh rule of the British empire. However, after the Spanish American war ended in 1898 through the Treaty of Paris, the US government decided to own the colonies that have been ceded by the Spanish. This decision marked the turning point in American history because it violated their constitution and redefined what it means to be the upholders of democracy. In one of the acquired colonies, the Philippines expected ultimate independence instead of a change of colonial power. This allowed conflict to mount between the two countries, which prompted the Filipinos to stage a revolt against the Americans. Unfortunately, because of the U.S. government s dedication to establish its sovereignty over the islands, the desire of the Filipinos to gain their independence, and the economic implications of the islands towards America, the two countries were unable to form a compromise leading to the Philippine American War. In explaining the sub prime market, Morin and Maux (2011) explain that sub prime loans refer to inferior quality (sub) real estate loans whose higher risk of payment default is countered by the bank with a higher interest rate. These mortgage loans, granted at variable rates, were extended to American households with modest incomes (p. 41). • 34. The Human Race Capturing Marine Animals The earliest records of the human race capturing marine animals, specifically fish, dates back over 40,000 years to the Upper Paleolithic time period (Endangered). Initially, fishing and harvesting aquatic animals was for the sole purpose of survival and means of finding food. Fast forward 40,000 years and fishing has shifted from a necessity to big business, wiping out the majority of oceanic resources and setting the marine apocalypse for the year 2048, when ecologists predict all species of fish will have gone extinct. Oceanic resources are dwindling at a rapid rate. The pending bioethical question is this: should further restrictions on fishing be implemented in the global fishing industry, as well as sport fishing? The answer is still up for debate. Because of overfishing, populations of saltwater fish have dwindled to surprisingly low numbers. But what of the few populations of people that still depend on fishing for food? And what of people who fish for sport, but only keep their legal limit? And how will placing restrictions affect both regional and global seafood economies? In 2005, 24.1 million tons of seafood were available for consumption in North America alone, with an astounding 107 million tons worldwide (Overfishing). And how would restricting fisheries affect worldwide health? Nearly 16% of the world s protein consumption is provided by fisheries. I will be discussing the evolution of social reaction and labeling theory, which is mainly concerned with how individuals personal identities are highly influenced by the way that society has a tendency to classify them as offenders. I will also be reviewing the various forms of feminist theories, which began as reactions to the lack of reasonable theorizing about why females commit crime and why the tend to be treated far more contradictorily by the criminal justice system. Here, I will explain these various theories with more attention on how they thoroughly transformed the way that the crime and law were viewed. Both theories had become popular in the 1960 s and the 1970 s due to the society looking for theories that fixed the blame for criminal offending on government authorities. These theories also both share a common theme, by accentuating the use of the criminal justice system to target or label certain types of groups such as lower class, minorities, and women, as criminals while protecting the ones with power such as white males. Theoretical Background: Social reaction theory is also referred to as labeling theory, which is mainly classified by how personal identities are influenced by the way authority categorizes the offenders. Over recent decades, Detroit has been the victim of both economic and demographic decay. Karl Marx (1818 1883) was a German sociologist and philosopher renowned for his analyses of political economy. According to his theories, capitalism is dependent on exploitation. That is, the working class (the proletariat) works for the owning class (the bourgeoisie), but rather than receive a compensation equivalent to its actual labor, or production value, the working class is underpaid, with a surplus, or profit, pouring into the pockets of the owners. Although the proletariat receives the short end of the stick, so to speak, its members are forced to sell labor power to the bourgeoisie in order to receive wages necessary for survival. Thus, conflict between the owners and workers, known as mutual antagonism, is inherit in the capitalist system, as workers fight for higher wages and shorter working days while owners attempt to combat these demands to maximize profit. Due to the passage of Title IX, also known as one of the Education Amendments of 1972, it is illegal for educational institutions to discriminate on the basis of sex which includes all academic and extra curricular programs such as sports. Title IX explicitly gives women equal rights, stating no person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance (Ford Title IX ). The women s movement during the late 1960s and 1970s succeeded in focusing national attention on the gender based inequalities that restricted the lives of American women. In the past women have been treated submissively and were not allowed much independence. Marriages were arranged and women were expected to be care takers of the household and children. Women did not typically work outside of the home or the domestic sphere. Organizations like the National Organization for Women (NOW) were created to promote civil rights, and with the passage of Title IX, women s status in society improved. Although the National Institute of Health states that it is not known if iPSCs and embryonic stem cells differ in clinically significant ways , iPSCs are already being used to achieve the same results as ESCs in some applications without the use of embryos, removing the ethical concern associated with ESCs (National Institutes of Health, 2009). ESCs are capable of differentiating into all cell types, and can be used as a source of differentiated cells. In the report by Itskovitz Eldor et al., they discuss the induced differentiation of ESCs in suspension into embryoid bodies, including the three embryonic germ layers.
