Review Of Related Literature Of Starbucks
Related Literature Truell, Allen, Milbier, Michael (2007) said that promotion is one of the four Ps of
marketing price, product, place, and promotion. Promotion is generally thought of as a sequence of
activities designed to inform and convince individuals to purchase a product, subscribe to a belief, or
support a cause. All of the various tools available to marketing managers for promotional activities
constitute what is known as the promotional mix. The promotional mix includes advertising, personal
selling, public relations and sales promotion.
According to Ingram (2009), advertising on the coffee shop s premises is a must for coffee shops. All
coffee shops should have a facade that clearly distinguishes the establishment for what ... Show more

The Starbucks marketing strategy has always focused on word of mouth advertising and letting the
high quality of their products and services speak for themselves. For years, this has been uniquely
Starbucks, and it has played a huge part in making Starbucks Coffee Company a success. The
definition of social media viral marketing speaks to this new word of mouth that Starbucks has run
with and made their own.
There is another coffee shop, the Indian Coffee House, which has been solely dependent on word of

The Pros And Cons Of College
Remember when you were little and you d fall on the trampoline and everyone would keep jumping so
you couldn t get back up? That s college. Unknown
College is said to provide individuals of a better career opportunity, secured job, and higher paycheck.
Every year, students all around globe debate on what college they want to attend, or if they want to
attend college at all. In the United States, only 65.9 percent of students, who has graduated from high
school the previous spring, had chose to enrolled into college (Norris, para. 2). So the question here is,
if college is so great, why are the percent of participants so low? In this paper, two universities,
University of Kentucky and University of Louisville, will be compared by their admission rates,
prices, and student to faculty ratio.
In 2017, college admission rate dropped as low as 4.65% for the first time ever ( Admission Statistic ,
par. 2). College is competitive even for those who are extremely intelligent. In the University of
Kentucky, admission rate is around 70 percent ( UK Acceptance Rate , par. 2). The average composite
score is roughly a 21, meaning that about 50 percent of test takers score below a 21 (Ellen, par. 5).
This college s requirement for ACT ranges from a 23 to a 28, according to acceptancerate.com ( UK
Acceptance Rate , par. 2). The GPA, following the admission rate and ACT, is acceptable also. The
essential GPA goes from 3.23 to 3.52, which

The Latest Cycle Of Trade Negotiations
Introduction The Doha Development Agenda, referred to as the Doha Round, is the latest cycle of
trade negotiations among World Trade Organization member governments and was officially launched
at the WTO s Fourth Ministerial Conference in Doha, Qatar, in November 2011. Following eight
rounds of multilateral trade talks since World War II, the Doha Round is the first that is explicitly
geared toward facilitating the induction of developing countries into the global market and
effectuating economic growth as a result. Bullet points on the agenda include reductions in tariffs and
farm subsidies, as well as liberalizing trade in services through lowering taxes and regulatory barriers
that impede cross border trade in services such as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This essay will clarify these misconceptions that have impeded the progress of the Doha Round.
Developing Countries Can Benefit From Their Own Reforms A prominent misconception is that trade
liberalisation in rich countries harm the growth of agricultural industries in developing countries.
Essentially, agricultural industries in developing countries suffer due to Europe depressing the world
price while keeping out efficient suppliers such as Brazil and Thailand, and also it destroys prospects
for some of the least developed countries (LDCs) such as Mozambique (Oxfam, 2002). Import
Barriers Discourage Exports Barriers to trade in developing countries can hinder their economic
growth by inducing disincentives to export. Tariffs on imports create a bias against exports by
lowering the domestic relative price of exports, changing wages and rental rates that are absorbed by
the export sector, and increasing the cost of imported intermediate inputs used by export sectors
(Tockarick, 2006). Hence, import protection can function as

Compare And Contrast The Virginia And Massachusetts Bay...
Virginia and Massachusetts Bay Colonies In 1607, the first permanent English settlement in the New
World, known as the Virginia Colony, was founded. Working under the Church of England, this
colony established the basis of English settlement in the New World. Soonthereafter, during 1620, the
Puritans arrived, eventually forming the Massachusetts Bay Colony. The colonists were seeking
religious freedom from the Church of England. In the Instructions for the Virginia Colony and the City
on a Hill Speech articles, trade and religion were the two most prominent factors. Through this, we
can better form the purpose of the Virginia and Massachusetts Bay colonies and how they affected the
future of America. Throughout the Instructions for the Virginia Company, the investors for the
Virginia Company discuss the instructions that the future colonists must abide by. The main focus
throughout the piece is to find the strongest, most wholesome and fertile place to better receive the
trade of all the countries. Due to the Virginia Colony working under the Church of England, the
colonists goal in the New World was to primarily spread their trade to make a larger profit for the
king. That is deeply seen from this article, that, in a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

A Research Study On Adolescent Suicide Essay
Facilitating Connection and Saving Lives
The purpose of this paper is to detail a group aimed to provide support for lesbian, gay, and bisexual
(LGB) adolescents. The paper begins by examining literature related to adolescent suicide rates, the
lack of personal and community resources for teenagers, and adolescent development and mental
health. The paper will then address the methodology, purpose, and goals of the group. The paper will
address the role of the leader. He/she will utilize an Adlerian theoretical orientation and will be
involved, directive, and authentic. The leader will attempt to facilitate social relatedness and corrective
emotional experiences for group members. The paper will briefly review group evaluation, and it will
examine potential ethical/multicultural issues that this leader and group may encounter. The paper will
conclude by detailing activities that will be utilized throughout the six weeks of the group experience.

Adolescent Suicide and Distress
One young person age ten to 19 takes his/her own life every 90 minutes (Gould et al. as cited in Kitts,
2005, p. 622). Russell and Joyner revealed that adolescents who identify as gay or lesbian are two
times more likely to attempt suicide than straight adolescents (as cited in Kitts, 2005, p. 624). The risk
factor for suicide for gay and lesbian adolescents is not their sexuality, but psychosocial distress they
experience due to their sexuality (Kitts, 2005). Adolescents

Canoeing In Canad A Brief Textual Analysis
I know from experience the fear and terror that struck my eyes when canoeing down a lake in Canada.
A few years ago back in 2014 I went camping in Canada, but this is not just any sort of camping trip,
with a nice rustic log cabin fitted with WiFi to make your camping experience more pleasurable .
No,no,no, this was REAL camping. Miles and miles away from any sort of any human civilization
with no more supplies than what you bring on your back. This was a canoeing backpacking trip
meaning my family and I rented a few vessels (canoes) and brought all our supplies on our backs to be
carried and shipped the entirety of the trip. Did I mention that the distance of this trip was close to
seventy miles?
I first arrived in Canada excited to be put into pure nature and experience the first real camping trip.
But when I arrived at the outfitters who were driving us into forest I began to worry. We turned off the
main road onto a narrow dirt road barely marked as if it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At one point we decided to stop at a campsite for the night and set up camp. We drank most of the
water packed and we needed more to cook dinner so me and my dad had to take a canoe to the middle
of the lake to filter some more water (if we filtered the water on the shore our water filter would have
got clogged with a bunch of scum). It was a pretty windy day this day and normally I wouldn t think
too much of it, and I didn t. So we got to the middle of the lake and filtered the water that we had
needed and were going to row back and we had started to paddle back, or we at least tried. Little did I
know what such mild winds can do to affect the current of the water. We rowed as hard and as fast as
we would yet were barely moving, the thought of being blown away was not a happy thought. I dug
down deep and gave the rowing everything I had. We slowly began making progress inching towards
back to the island we were staying on. Finally, we were

Industrialization in India
Need for Trend of Industrialization in India
What is Industry?
In its broadest sense, industry is any work that is undertaken for economic gain and that promotes
employment. The word may be applied to a wide range of activities, from farming to manufacturing
and tourism. It encompasses production at any scale, from the local sometimes known as cottage
industry to the multinational or transnational.
In a more restricted sense, industry refers to the production of goods, especially when that production
is accomplished with machines. It is this limited definition of industry that is embodied by the notion
of industrialization: the transition to an economy based on the large scale, machine assisted production
of goods by a concentrated, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ironically, de industrialization in the three countries mentioned above has been accompanied by a
growth in the high tech industries in areas such as the Côte d Azur in France; Silicon Valley in
California; and along the M4 motorway, around Cambridge, and in central Scotland the so called
Silicon Glen in the UK. The long term impact of de industrialization has yet to be felt. It may be the
speed of the process, rather than the process itself, that needs careful management.
Transnational Corporations
Probably the most significant industrial development since the 1960s has been the rise of the
multinational or transnational company. Examples of these companies, which operate in many
countries, are Ford, General Motors, IBM, Siemens, and Matsushita Electrical. United Nations (UN)
estimates that investment by transnational companies has risen by 13 per cent per year over the last 20
years, largely because more and more governments are accepting these firms into their countries.
Nevertheless, the growth of multinational corporations has raised a number of concerns. An enormous
amount of production power is concentrated in the hands of a few controllers, which means that the
countries involved become directly susceptible to economic changes in other parts of the world. The
transfer of assets from one country to another may be difficult for governments to manage or prevent,
and there are likely to be disparities in the treatment of different countries.

has an initial term of 5 years but by paying a nominal fee, Palmiero can renew the license indefinitely
for successive 5 year terms. What amount should be amortized for the year ended December 31, 2012?
1 . Alatorre should report the patent at $600,000 (net of $400,000 accumulated amortization) on the
balance sheet. The computation of accumulated amortization is as follows.
Amortization for 2005 and 2006 ($1,000,000/10) X 2 $200,000
2007 amortization: ($1,000,000 $200,000) ÷ (6 2) 200,000
Accumulated amortization, 12/31/07 $400,000
2. Alatorre should amortize the franchise over its estimated useful life.
Because it is uncertain that Alatorre will be able to retain the franchise at the end of 2015, it should be
amortized over 10 years. The amount of amortization on the franchise for the year ended December
31, 2007, is
$40,000: ($400,000/10).
3. These costs should be expensed as incurred. Therefore $275,000 of organization expense is reported
in income for 2007.
4. Because the license can be easily renewed (at nominal cost), it has an indefinite life. Thus, no
amortization will be recorded. The license will be tested for impairment in future periods.

The Role Of Fate In Greek Mythology
When we look at Greek Mythology we often run into the gods of that era. Sometimes they are merely
backdrops to the human element of the story but in stories such as The Odyssey the gods play a
prominent if not vital role to the central themes of the story.
Fate has a place in the Greek world but is place is not the same as it is in other scenarios or worlds. It
is important to understand the word before we discuss it. Fate as far as Greek mythology goes is not
just fate, by most standards fate is described as things that occur for an unknown reason that no one
has any control over. However, in Greek Mythology fate simply does not just happen. The God s

That was his free will. Some say that the gods knew Odysseus would not stay and that is why they
decided to let him go. However, knowledge of an act doesn t take away the fact that Odysseus chose
himself. The gods took much of his life away and he had more reason than anyone to give up and say
to himself, This is my fate. Ann, a critic of The Odyssey says, Blaming the gods for your faults doesn t
always work, though. There s a difference between having a fate and accepting your fate. The real
heroes never give in. (Ann par. 26) That difference, between having fate and accepting it, is free will.
Once the gods have controlled the fate of certain people, the gods let the happenings take course. It is
true that the gods interfere with the lives of the people, but that will never take away their free will.
Zeus says it himself in the beginning of The Odyssey while talking to other gods upon Olympus, My
word how mortals take the gods to task! All their afflictions come from us, we hear. And what of their
own failings? (Homer 210) This statement by Zeus says that the people are indeed responsible for
themselves and they have the ability to make their own choices. Regarding the same verse Torrey
stated, This makes it seem that while men don t take responsibility in the Odyssey, the gods say they
should... (Philemon, par. 1) Zeus also gives us another good example in that same speech. Here Zeus

Spark s RDDs function as a working set for distributed programs that offers a (deliberately) restricted
form of distributed shared memory. [3]
The availability of RDDs facilitates the implementation of both iterative algorithms that visit their
dataset multiple times in a loop, and exploratory data analysis, which is the querying of data
repeatedly. The latency of applications builds with spark compared to Hadoop, a MapReduce platform
may be reduced by several orders of magnitude. [3]
Another key aspect of apache spark is that it makes writing code easy and quickly. This is as a result
of over 80 high level operators included in with spark library. This is evidence as spark comes with a
REPL an interactive shell. The REPL can be used t0 test the outcome of each line of code without
coding the entire job. As a result, ad hoc data analysis is possible and code is made much shorter.
Apache Spark is well complemented with set of high level libraries that can be easily used in the same
application. These include Spark SQL, Spark Streaming, MLlib and GraphX which we will explain in
details in this paper. 2 Spark Core
Spark core is at the base of the apache spark foundation. It provides distributed task dispatching,
scheduling, and basic I/O capabilities which is exposed through a common API (JAVA, Scala, Python
and R) centered on the RDD concept. [1] As the core it provides the following:
 Memory management and fault recovery.

William Woolf s The Lighthouse
Woolf s To the Lighthouse is written in a Modernist style, is very philosophical, does not have a
traditional casual plot, and focuses on the exploration of the mind. Woolf uses experimental
techniques, such as writing as a stream of consciousness in order to present the experience,
subconscious minds, and the conscious thoughts of characters. The sense of a clear authorial narrator
is missing as Woolf describes the minds of her characters in poetic images and her free flowing style
allows Woolf to flit between different characters minds and examine experience through various
shifting perspectives. The use of this form allows her to focus on particular moments within the novel,
and the plot is created by following the train of thoughts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As Julian Hanna wrote, The inward turn or exploration of the psyche often said to characterize
modernist literature is difficult to imagine without Freud . Woolf seems uninterested in the external
influences that occur during the period of the novel, and passes over significant events such as World
War One, and the marriage and deaths of her characters, effectively capturing these within 10 concise
chapters.
The novel does not progress on a what happens next basis, but progresses by following the continual
activity of characters consciousness and impressions, moving forward by a series of scenes arranged
according to a sequence of several particular moments of consciousness. Writing in this style allows
Woolf to convey her characters using very little physical description, so we are left to interpret them
through the thoughts and opinions of other characters. Therefore it is hard for the reader to interpret
because it is unclear whose perspective the opinion is from, and we do not know if they are reliable.
Woolf filters all of the different characters thoughts together, and translates their emotions by writing
poetically in a stream of consciousness. This allows Woolf to distort time by focusing on individual
moments and skimming over others, therefore stretching out certain periods of time and condensing

Nicotinic Acetylcholine Receptors
Nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChRs) are a family of multi subunit transmembrane
neurotransmitter receptors. They do many functions in the central and peripheral nervous systems.
Nicotinic acetylcholine receptors, or nAChRs are receptors that make a response to the
neurotransmitter acetylcholine. Nicotinic receptors can respond to some drugs, such as the nicotinic

The Fall of Russia Essay
After the collapse of the Soviet Union there were many different problems facing the new Russian
government. Through the use of reforms many of these issues were cured but not overnight. Boris
Yeltsin and his Prime Minister Yegor Gaidar implemented several policies while the economy was not
moving well. Then Vladimir Putin would carry on reforms while making new ones or changing
existing policies. How would these amendments affect the economy after the collapse of the
Communist regime?
In 1992, Yeltsin launched an economic reform program developed by Acting Prime Minister Yegor
Gaidar. The program also known as shock therapy brought fundamental changes in the economy.
There was little doubt that it was causing economic misery, and ... Show more content on

The temporary truce broke, however, broke down and Yeltsin declared emergency presidential rule;
more than half but less than two thirds the majority needed in the Supreme Soviet voted to impeach
Yeltsin. Yeltsin called together a constitutional convention to write a new constitution. He banned
eight political parties, fired several high ranking government officials who had failed to support him,
and suspended Russia s regional and town councils, many of which had sided with his opponents
(Kort 421). Therefore the Supreme Soviet had refused to support the new constitution, Yeltsin then
issued a decree dissolving both the Supreme Soviet and the Congress of People s Deputies.
Furthermore, neither system wanted to view or listen to Yeltsin and his new constitution. They
gathered in the parliamentary building, voted to dispose of Yeltsin. Then Yeltsin a few weeks later had
the Russian white house blasted with artillery.
Privatization
The government also launched a major program of privatization of state property. By 1994, the

The Film Shawshank Redemption We Learn About A Man Who Is...
In the film Shawshank Redemption we learn about a man who is an educated, professional banker by
trade, who finds himself in a situation in which he chooses to secretly follow his beautiful wife
knowing she is having an affair with the golf pro who works at their country club. One evening, Andy,
the banker, decides to bring a gun along with him as he follows his wife and the golf pro. He stops at a
couple of bars and proceeds to become inebriated. Andy is clearly a man whom by all means would be
considered a respectable person in society and follows the particular norms of that time until he begins
to make choices to differentiate himself from the folkways and mores of any expectations regarding
the laws that had been established for the purpose of structure, order and conformity. By all accounts
we see Andy s character reflecting certain choices of conformity in which he clearly represents
behavior and appearance that follows and maintains a particular standard and acceptance of a group.
As we learn further in the story we must also consider the factors of behavior that reflects deviance.
This behavior challenges the norms. Andy has been convicted of violating the norms of everyday life
by murdering his wife and her lover and he is arrested for the murder. Although in Andy s court
preceding he pled innocence and expressed to the judge that he had not murdered his wife and her
lover, maintaining the story that he had sobered himself up and then

American History For People Learning English
From VOA Learning English, welcome to The Making of a Nation, our weekly program of American
history for people learning English. I m Steve Ember.
Today, we tell the story of how a British attack on Fort McHenry in the port of Baltimore led to The
Star Spangled Banner, America s national anthem.
In the summer of 1814, British forces attacked Washington, DC. They burned the Capitol building, the
White House and other public buildings. Then they withdrew to their ships in the Chesapeake Bay.
British General Robert Ross and Admiral George Cockburn led the attack on Washington. Next they
planned to attack Baltimore. But the people of Baltimore expected the attack, and began to prepare for
it. Fifty thousand of them built defenses around the city.
The port of Baltimore was protected by Fort McHenry. The guns and cannon of the fort could prevent
British ships from reaching the city.
The British began with a land attack against Baltimore. General Ross, Admiral Cockburn and about
4,000 British soldiers landed at North Point, a finger of land reaching into the Chesapeake Bay.
From North Point, it was a march of about 22 kilometers to Baltimore. The British began marching at
about seven in the morning. General Ross and Admiral Cockburn stopped their men after an hour. The
two commanders and several of their officers rode to a nearby farmhouse and forced the family living
there to give them breakfast.
When the British officers finished eating, the farmer asked General Ross

Introduction
Argentina before its Great Depression in 1998 2002
Prior to becoming a democratic country, Argentina was exposed to a military dictatorship. Under this
regime the Economy Minister was Jose Alfredo Martinez de Hoz whose neoliberal economic platform
sided along to anti labor, monetarist policies and financial liberalization. As a result of this regime,
Argentina accumulated a $45 billion foreign debt. As a result interest rates exceeded trade surpluses,
unemployment increased and there were high inflation rates. In 1985 a democracy was reestablished
once President Raul Alfonsin was elected. Alfonsin s government intended to stabilize the economy by
establishing the austral, a new currency. However, this was unsuccessful because the government
couldn t continue to fund its debts. The cost of utility increased significantly as real wages fell by
almost half. As a result uncertainty increased across the country, inflation increased from 200% a year
in 1988 to 5,000% in 1989 (Brooke).
However, the economy improved once elected President

Roswell Incident
The Rendlesham Forest incident, or better known as it s nickname Britain s Roswell, occurred over a

UFO TRIED TO STEAL NUCLEAR WEAPONS The days surrounding Christmas are always filled
with some magic in the air but UFO s are not normally part of the celebration. Aliens on December
26th, 1980 did not get that memo as reports of triangular shaped craft landing in the UK received
some attention from authorities. Ex cops have claimed that they first saw the lights touchdown in the
forest near a military base which cut off communication systems for about 40 minutes. Later on,the
cops went to investigate which lead to a finding of 1.5inch impact holes, damage to the trees and
increased radiation in the area. What little reports there are have been all but silenced in recent years.

Statement of Purpose for Graduate Study
Philosophy Doctoral Program at Stanford University
I wouldn t be doing philosophy if I didn t think it progressed, and that we know now more than we did
a century ago. For that reason, I don t view its history as a story of the clash of defensible but
irreconcilable views, from which the most we can expect is a sympathetic understanding of how
things looked to the participants. (Scott Soames) For the value of the history of philosophy . . . lies not
only in the fact that we can learn from our predecessors how to address in different ways the questions
that concern us, but also in the fact that we can learn from them how to ask different questions, or how
to ask our questions differently. (Paul Franks)
These quotes provide different pictures about the history of philosophy. The notion of progress plays a
key role in Soames account. Because we know more now than we did in the past, Soames claims the
history of philosophy should involve a careful analysis of both the achievements and insights that have
allowed the field to progress as well as the missteps which have frustrated this process. Soames would
have history vindicate our current philosophical understanding. Paul Franks, on the other hand, wants
to problematize this straightforward account of how we progressed from the past to the present. He
does this by leaving open the possibility that important questions may cease to be raised and that

Stress In George Orwell s Shooting An Elephant And The...
Throughout time, the authors of the world have experienced different forms of stresses. The type of
stress experienced by the author helps shape their moral perspective. In the essays Shooting an
Elephant and The Next War, the authors moral perspectives are shaped by the economic stress of the
great depression. In Graves in Gallipoli and The Little Entente the moral perspective of the authors is
shaped by the stress created by the Great War. The stress created by the Great Depression and the
Great War shaped authors moral perspectives in different ways.
The main moral idea represented in the essay Shooting an Elephant by George Orwell is how people
do things that they know are wrong but do anyways because that is what is expected of them. The
author, George Orwell, was born in 1903, and the essay was written in 1936. Some major global
events that occured during George s life before he wrote this essay are the Great War and the Great
Depression. During this time men had been forced to kill each other in the trenches because this what
was men were supposed to do. In the great depression, men were supposed to be the ones looking and

Deck Expansion Essay
How wide should you spread your deck? We aren t trying to break any records here, but we want to
achieve a decent sized span. For the spectators to believe they are seeing the entire deck, you must
stretch the spread the distance you would usually spread a deck if you were having an audience
member pick a card. Instead of using your fingers to help distribute the cards, let s use friction. The
key to expanding your reverse spread is regulated by how much you slide the cards across one
another. By simultaneously pulling your hands apart as you push and pull the cards during the action
of spreading, you regulate the friction that helps keep the cards together. Pull your hands apart too far,
and you will lose your grip and the cards will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Whatever the purpose, from now on you must be conscious of how often, and in which direction, you
spread cards. If you have a card selected from a reversed spread but reveal it with a regular spread, for
example, suspicion might follow. The best course of action is to always reverse spread the deck when
having a card selected, returned, or revealed. This keeps everything uniform. However, if that notion
seems too overwhelming, below you ll find several viable alternatives that should satisfy your needs.
Fanning Cards By pivoting the entire deck around your thumb, you evenly distribute the cards in a
circular shape. It s a beautiful way to have a card selected, and does not expose the direction in which
the deck is spread. A cursory look on the internet should yield several different methods of fanning.
Some are more difficult than others, but any kind will work. Dribbling Cards One of my favorite ways
to have cards selected and returned is by dribbling them. Hold the deck from above by using the right
thumb on the short inner end, and second, third and little fingers at the outer end (End Grip). Curl your
right first finger on top of the deck. Starting from the face of the deck, allow cards to fall individually
by exerting and releasing pressure with your right thumb and second finger as you apply pressure with
your forefinger from the top. Your left hand waits underneath, catching the falling cards in its palm. As
the cards drop, have someone call stop. As soon as

Occurence at Owl Creek Bridge Essay
Out of all the stories I have read in class so far, An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge by Ambrose
Bierce, has touched me most. When I first began reading the story I felt as though I was not interested,
because my assumptions of what the story was going to be about were completely different than the
stories actual content. As I set aside my judgment and let myself try to enjoy the story, I found myself
anxiously reading to the bitter end. This story was not only interesting and unique, but also had an
added twist at the end, which surprised most readers. Depending on how observant the reader is with
picking up on foreshadowing and symbolic meaning, one may realize before the final sentences that

While this section is not necessarily a crucial part of the story, it does help build Peyton s character as
well as the overall character of the story.
The third part of this story focuses attention back to the scene at the bridge, where the authors
deceiving words make the reader think Peyton has escaped from the rope and now desperately fights
his way home to the loving arms of his wife again. As I said before this part of the story continues on a
systematic path, describing every little detail occurring from Peyton s point of view up until the last
seconds before his death.
The main theme of this story, dying, opened my eyes to a view I had never thought about before. The
author presents an in depth narrative into the mind and thoughts of someone who is in the process of
his last minutes of life. This could also be characterized by going through some of the five stages of
dying: Denial, Anger, Depression, and Acceptance. An example of Denial would be when Peyton says,
quot;If I could free my hands, quot; he thought, quot;I might throw off the noose and spring into the
stream. By diving I could evade the bullets and, swimming vigorously, reach the bank, take to the
woods and get away home. My home, thank God, is as yet outside their lines; my wife and little ones
are still beyond the invader s farthest advance. quot; Peyton shows signs of denial in this segment by

Analysis Of The Movie Alfonso Cuaron Essay
Alfonso Cuaron, introduces us to a nation full of despair and destruction. The people seemed to be lost
in a deep melancholic state. Right at the beginning of the movie people appeared to be devastated by
the death of baby Diego, due to the fact that he was the youngest person on earth. This film portrays
us to a nation without children because humanity has become infertile. Infertility has taken the world
into a chaotic and paranoia stage. The government itself has indoctrinated paranoia and despair on its
own people, by condemning its people to live in a lawless nation full of war, death, and destruction.
Although it seems as if humanity is condemned to live without hope and without a chance of a future,
Theo s rejuvenation and transformation makes us see that hope can be reawakened even in the most
destructive and hopeless society; Theo transforms when Kee reveals her pregnancy to him, and by
giving hi life to safely this teenage pregnant girl through a journey full of violence and danger, to
reach a boat that represented a better future for her and her baby.
Throughout the movie it s obvious that the devastation of all humanity is caused by the infertility of
all women; infertility in the movie symbolizes a nation without a hopeful future. Even the current
future generation seems robotic and unsociable, like Theo s cousin s son. The people seemed to be
living in an unconscious and hopeless phase because the government has driven them to live this way.
Throughout the

This will be a risk analysis of the hazard of moving to Oracle, or jumping ship to another software
vendor, such as companies like Lawson Software Inc., Microsoft Corp., SAP AG or SSA Global
Technologies Inc. (Jackson, 2005). The initial phase of the Risk Management life cycle is the analysis
phase, where the first proposal is completed and is allowed to move forward with the risk assessment
effort. Risk Analysis is an instrument for Risk Management and is used to identify weaknesses and
various threats, and then predicts the conceivable losses and where to install defenses. Risk Analysis is
applied to safeguard that security is cost effective, pertinent, well timed and responsive to security
implications (Harris, 2016). As part of this phase, the all related documentation is brought together to
define potential threats, risks, and repercussions (Harris, 2016). Also, an initial Return on Investment
(ROI) argument should be made to aid management in constructing an informed decision (Excelsior
College Website, 2016). Security can be extremely difficult and even for well trained IT professionals
can either apply too much or not enough or in wrong areas. It is way too easy to spend lots money
without accomplishing the required purposes. Doing a risk analysis allows organizations to prioritize
their risks and provide a cost benefit comparison (Excelsior College, 2016). After the Analysis phase,

Similarities Between Hamlet And Laertes
In the play Hamlet several acts of revenge are perpetrated. The most important of which are Hamlet s
revenge on Claudius, as Claudius was responsible for Hamlet s father s death because Claudius
wanted the title of King. There also is Laertes revenge against Hamlet as Hamlet was responsible for
the death of Laertes father because he thought he was Claudius. Both Hamlet s and Laertes s success
with their revenge plot can be seen as highly successful.
Hamlet is a highly dramatic character as well as a procrastinator The time is out of joint. O cursed
spite that I ever was born to set it right Hamlet. As indicated by this quote where Hamlet is yet again
over thinking and dramatizing his late father s (the ghost) request to kill Claudius for his crimes.
Hamlet s habit of over obsessing about this matter makes him a man of so called reason rather than
action. This negatively impacts on him, as his actions are then constantly postponed. Due to this
character trait Hamlet may be viewed as a poor revenge seeker.
This view is incorrect, because Hamlet more than makes up for this by not only killing Claudius and
fulfilling his father s wishes, but by also exposing Claudius crimes. He also experiences the success of
his revenge by witnessing Claudius ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Taking a Look at Australian Courtrooms
Australian courtrooms are highly ritualised spaces where various long serving customs and traditions
are strictly followed in order to constitute events of power, and also featured in the relative power
relations. As was evident by the local courtrooms visited within The Downing Centre, the architecture,
language, courtroom actors and spatial organisation demonstrate the numerous levels of power, of
which are present. This usage of power is evident as visible through the relationships between the
courtroom actors, particularly those between the judge or magistrate, the witnesses and lastly, the
lawyers. These relations significantly highlight the disparity of power between these individuals.
Simultaneously, the courtroom architecture of which is present also signals and represents the different
levels of power during court proceedings. In addition, the use of legal jargon in one s favour is also a
worthy indicator of attaining this much sought after power aforementioned.
Within a courtroom, power relations are revealed at their greatest extent, in the instances of the
interaction between the different courtroom actors. During the observation of a particular criminal
case, it became clear to myself that the chain of power in a courtroom features the judge or magistrate
at the top, followed by the lawyer (or defendant if they are representing themselves), with the
witnesses and defendants at the bottom. This form of power distribution further exemplifies the

Charles Dickens Struggles

was a great growth in the industry and in prosperity for Great Britain, and coupled with this growth
was another in the social classes, particularly with an emphasis on the fine upper class. This growth of
focus on the upper class and subsequently the lack of focus on the poor lower class were brought to

The Slave System By Solomon Northup
The slave system was kept in existence for many years since the early 1600 s. A never ending cycle of
pain, and harsh conditions From being in 12 years of slavery, Solomon Northup recounts the time
when he had once been a free man to be kidnapped of that freedom back in 1841. The relationships
that Northup encountered were neither positive or negative . From friends he gained or his slave
masters, the relationships were shaped by slavery and helped intact the slave system. In those
relationships, how the supervisors of the slaves treated them impacted the slaves work ethic and the
friendships that were made during this harsh time, thus supporting the slave system. One of the first
social relationship Solomon encountered when he entered slavery was James H. Burch. When
Solomon was captured, Burch chained him up and put him in a cell; something Solomon was not used
to at all. Although he claimed he was a free man, Burch beat him every time he said he was, and
forcing Solomon to say he was from Georgia. Burch frightened Solomon with his beatings and
threatening words and because of how cruel Burch was, Solomon kept his mouth shut and refused to
say he was a free man to any of his future slave masters, fearing of the treatment again. With James
Burch treating the slaves in that matter; implemented to the system of slavery, forcing the slaves to

The Effects Of Thalidomide And Its Effects On Children
Thalidomide Paper Thalidomide is a drug that was invented in Germany in the 1950 s. It was
originally intended to treat respiratory infections but during testing, it was noted that the drug worked
to relieve morning sickness for pregnant women. This new reason allowed the drug to be prescribed to
many new patients all over the world. Eventually Thalidomide was discovered to be causing birth
defects in all of the pregnant women that were taking it. It caused the fetus to not develop correctly by
causing limbs of the body or ears to develop improperly or not develop at all. It also cause spinal cord
and digestive system defects as well as problems to the heart and kidneys. Thalidomide stopped being
prescribed but not before many children and families were affected worldwide who had taken the
drug. It took a couple of years before other countries caught up to realize that thalidomide was causing

1961 that it was completely removed after it was confirmed that it was causing birth defects. More
than 10000 babies were born with defects and approximately killed 2000 before birth, but fewer than

How Did Marston Build The Water Tower
In 1895, they made a decision to build the water tower since there was a shortage of water and it
forced the classes to be cancelled. Anson Marston, the engineer who designed the First Water Tower
was head of Civil Engineering at ISU. The water tower was the first elevated steel water tower west of
the Mississippi. It stood 168 feet above campus. It was more than 30 feet tall and 20 feet in diameter
and held 160,000 gallons. The use of the water tower was discontinued in 1978, and the university
switched to the Ames city water system. It was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in
1981 and after seven years, it was restored. The American Water Works Association presented an
award to ISU in 2007, when the water tower was named Marston Water Tower and an American Water
Landmark. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because of the his brilliant idea, he broke all the standard rules of the day in its design by using steel
to replace wood to build the water tower. He explained to use the eight column were better preference

well within the limits which existing structures have shown to be safe. The height and capacity of the
water tower were monumental at that time, nevertheless they were considered the requirement for a

Making Pens Out Of Wood
How to Make a Wood Pen
When making pens out of wood there is quite a bit of equipment you will need to purchase to get
started. These are all things for the initial setup and are a one time purchase.
1. Wood Lathe (a midi lathe is best)
2. Drill Press (nothing too expensive)
3. Drill bits (different sizes. The pen kits will tell you what size you need)
4. Scroll saw or hand saw (The scroll saw easiest)
5. Pen Turning Mandrel
6. Turning Tools (a gouge, skew, and parting tool are good to start with)
7. Pen Press (for putting it all together)
8. Tape Measurer
9. Pencil or Sharpie
10. Pen Makers Center Drilling Vise (optional)
These are all the items you need to be successful. I know it is a bit overwhelming, but will be well
worth it to be prepared.
Next I want to get into the materials you will need to make the pens. These are items you will buy
periodically to replace your inventory.
1. Wood Pen Blanks (these are easiest because you have less measuring to do)
2. Glue (you don t want anything like Elmer s Glue)
3. Pen Kits (there are so many to choose from like slimline or cigar pens)
4. Sandpaper (I use what they call the sanding pack)
5. Wood Oil (I use Tung Oil)
6. A Sealant (I use a liquid polyurethane)
7. Q Tips (this depends on the type of glue you use)
Next we will get into the work area and safety. You want to make sure you have a well ventilated area
to work in with plenty of room to move around without trouble. I use my garage. You also want to

Psychological And Psychological Factors And The Theory Of...
1. Theory of acculturation
1.1. Acculturation of ethnic minorities
Acculturation is the process which occurs when two cultures meet together; it leads to psychological
and cultural changes (Berry, 2005). This process of changes can be going for years or generations. It
should be stressed that acculturation is a dual process and the changes can be found in both cultural
groups.
One of the first definitions of acculturation can be found in the work of Redfield, Linton and
Herskovits, which is widely used nowadays because of the works of Berry (1990; 1997). This
definition says that acculturation comprehends those phenomena which result when groups of
individuals having different cultures come into continuous first hand contact with subsequent changes
in the original culture patterns of either or both groups (by Berry 1997).

Ethnic identity is the feeling of belonging to a certain ethnic group which in case of ethnic minorities
becomes the main point in the process of acculturation and especially in the question of cultural
orientation. Perceived threat is the construct which describes the feeling of being threat among ethnic
minorities which can be differ from the objective threat. Security is the feeling of safety. There are
some evidence that positive ethnic identity with low level of perceived threat and high level of
security lead to the better psychological adaptation (Sam Berry, 2010). The visibility of the ethnic
minority can be another factor that influences the process of acculturation too, Safdar and colleagues
(2012) explained differences in Indian and Russian minorities in Canada by the fact that Russians are
less visible minority. In case of Uzbekistan almost every ethnic group is very visible so we will not

Carnivalesque Grotesque Analysis
1st Draft Mark Lennon FACS Ross Birrell
Working Title: Present Systems and Prohibitions in relation to Carnivalesque Grotesque. Synopsis:
This essay will investigate wither the principles of Carnival Grotesque during the time of Francois
Rabelais writing still provide a function to berate and liberate us from current societal prohibitions. It
draws upon evaluating the writings of Georges Bataille s Base Materialism and Jean Baudrillard s
critique of consumerist capitalism specifically that of advertising to be utilised as a vessel in
understanding wither notions of the grotesque can still berate and liberate us from current social
phenomenas in a theoretical sense. In aid to this, It will draw upon contemporary sources that may be
similar in features and principles to the Carnivalesque Grotesque such as South Park and William
Wegman and evaluate wither they have successfully carried the principles and functions of it. Chapter
1 presents an overview of the fundamental notions, characteristics and functions that Mikthail Bakhtin
derives to be the Carnivalesque Grotesque from Francois Rabelais s Gargantua and Pantagruel .
Chapter 2 examines the link between the Carnivalesque Grotesque specifically Grotesque Realism and
Georges Bataille s Base Materialism. Chapter 3 will introduce Jean Baudrillard s The system of
Objects and the functions of advertising being a contemporary prohibition to that of Medieval
hierarchy. Chapter 4 will evaluate contemporary sources

Trevorce Dating Papers
Research on the specific topic of divorce impacting dating are very slim, subcategories were found to
help understand some of the effects of divorce. One study emphasises how religious aspects and how
religion plays a part in divorce rates. As well as how religion helps the process. Another subcategory
emphasized single parents struggles in dating, and the impacts of having a child while finding a mate.
The last study showed feelings of stress among the divorced population. These subcategories will lead
to a better understanding of a divorced person s state before conducting research to address the
specifics of how divorce impacts dating.

Marilyn Monroe Turning Point
Sometimes good things fall apart, so better things can fall together (Marilyn Monroe). Monroe was a
big believer in letting problems and struggles fall into place because in the end she believed
everything would be where it is meant to be and everything would turn out just fine. Marilyn Monroe
was the essential focus in the fifties and provided a turning point in time for women in America. She is
an inspiration to me because she did not let her struggles stop her from achieving her goals. The
following points illustrate the importance of this turning point in time. Monroe did not let her

She was the essential focus in the fifties and provided a turning point in time for women in America.
She is an inspiration to me because she did not let her struggles stop her from achieving her goals.
Monroe did not let her background and struggles stop her from reaching her goals. Marilyn overcame
many struggles in her lifetime and still did not let her struggles get in the way from reaching her goals.
She was an independent woman taking advantage of the opportunities that afforded her in the movie
making business. There was never an opportunity that slipped through Marilyn s fingers, she took
advantage of every opportunity that came her way and it led her to be the successful woman who in
the blink of an eye became the most iconic sex symbol in the United States. Lastly, she let her natural
abilities and looks shine through as an example to women during this time and still today. Marilyn
Monroe never let anyone define who she truly was and never let anyone get in the way of her
achieving her goals, once she had her mind set on doing something she sought out to do

Tapon Tax Promoting Stigma And A Barrier To Human Rights
The Tampon Tax: Promoting Stigma A Barrier to Human Rights
Three British women recently made headlines by free bleeding outside the Parliament building in
London. The women wore white pants and no feminine care products making a statement on their
pants about the importance of feminine care products (Gruff, 2015). In the UK as in 40 U.S. states
there is a tax on tampons and other menstruation related products, including sanitary napkins and
cups, justified under the general sales tax. Of the 10 states that do not tax feminine care products, five
of those states have no sales tax. Meaning just five states have decided to abolish the sales tax on
feminine care products. The sales tax applies to feminine care products under the belief that such
products are luxury or non essential purchases. (Hillin, 2015). ... Show more content on

It is rooted in sexism and unethical double standards and is a barrier to basic human rights. The tax in
one of many examples of women specific needs being ignored by policymakers and instrumentally
used for profit in the form of tax dollars (Freedman, 2015). This only further stigmatizes menstruation.
For centuries women have been told to hide their periods as they are viewed as an unclean, disgusting,
and shameful burdens. The shame and stigma associated with women s bodies is only reinforced by
policy that declares menstruation and the products needed to have a healthy period as luxury or non
essential as anything other than a normal function of

Importance Of Communication In International Business
IMPORTANCE OF CROSS CULTURE COMMUNICATION IN INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS
Cross culture communication is defined as the interaction between the team members who are coming
from the different countries or groups. All the team member is shared their own knowledge and ideas
to present their work in the way that other people can easily understand. In international business, we
have to communicate with the foreign people and we have to communicate the other party with their
own language to expand our business. It is important to know the intercultural communication in
business because to create an effectiveness between people from the diverse culture within a business,
to avoid misunderstanding and to improve the efficiency of the manpower and raise the productivity.
There are three main points that I am going to illustrate in this essay which is the importance of
language, religion, and social habits.
The first and most important topic is language in international business. Language plays a huge role in
cross culture communication. It is one of the huge problems in today s market which company faces
on the path of internationalism in the different natural language. For instance, as per the Ethnologue
website, the Chinese language is one of the most popular languages around the world. Over one
billion people are speaking Chinese all around the world. However English is at third as per the chart.
The difference in the language between workforce and marketing companies creates a huge

A Teacher s Lack Of Professionalism
I interviewed several people from a range of positions. An assistant principal, a special education lead,
and several teachers. 1. A lack of services being provided to a dyslexic student due to overwhelming
amount of responsibilities given to the head of special education created a conflict among the head of
the program, the counselor, the administrator, and the parent. 2. Loss of trust and animosity among a
team based on one teacher s lack of professionalism. The team took turns making lesson plans,
locating resources, and creating rotating substitute plans. One of the teachers rarely had her portions of
the work done causing the other members of the team to scramble around getting a lesson together at
the last minute. This teacher also called in sick several times and waited until a few minutes before
school started to call one of the other s and ask them to provide a lesson for the substitute. This
conflict escalated to the Dean of Instruction. 3. Two teachers who were married and working on the
same campus and same department when one of them was suspended for inappropriate conduct with a
student created conflict within the department. 4. A math teacher followed the directions of the district
math coordinator to give a test that used unethical racial stereotypes in the word problems. 5. A
science teacher was hired to be team lead and to use his experience to coordinate the district science
fair. Once he had it all in place based on regional rules, it was taken over

  • 2. Review Of Related Literature Of Starbucks Related Literature Truell, Allen, Milbier, Michael (2007) said that promotion is one of the four Ps of marketing price, product, place, and promotion. Promotion is generally thought of as a sequence of activities designed to inform and convince individuals to purchase a product, subscribe to a belief, or support a cause. All of the various tools available to marketing managers for promotional activities constitute what is known as the promotional mix. The promotional mix includes advertising, personal selling, public relations and sales promotion. According to Ingram (2009), advertising on the coffee shop s premises is a must for coffee shops. All coffee shops should have a facade that clearly distinguishes the establishment for what ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On their website, on Facebook, on Twitter and in their blogs: individuals are encouraged to express their experiences with Starbucks history, and the company strives to personally join in the discussions. The Starbucks marketing strategy has always focused on word of mouth advertising and letting the high quality of their products and services speak for themselves. For years, this has been uniquely Starbucks, and it has played a huge part in making Starbucks Coffee Company a success. The definition of social media viral marketing speaks to this new word of mouth that Starbucks has run with and made their own. There is another coffee shop, the Indian Coffee House, which has been solely dependent on word of mouth advertising until now. It has been hugely successful because its patrons either blog about it and spread the word or suggest it to their friends. And the role of marketing communication in this case would be thus remind the consumer of the rich heritage of ICH by extending their word of mouth strategy through tools such as PR, social media and good will of the patrons. Unknown College is said to provide individuals of a better career opportunity, secured job, and higher paycheck. Every year, students all around globe debate on what college they want to attend, or if they want to attend college at all. In the United States, only 65.9 percent of students, who has graduated from high school the previous spring, had chose to enrolled into college (Norris, para. 2). So the question here is, if college is so great, why are the percent of participants so low? In this paper, two universities, University of Kentucky and University of Louisville, will be compared by their admission rates, prices, and student to faculty ratio. In 2017, college admission rate dropped as low as 4.65% for the first time ever ( Admission Statistic , par. 2). College is competitive even for those who are extremely intelligent. In the University of Kentucky, admission rate is around 70 percent ( UK Acceptance Rate , par. 2). The average composite score is roughly a 21, meaning that about 50 percent of test takers score below a 21 (Ellen, par. 5). This college s requirement for ACT ranges from a 23 to a 28, according to acceptancerate.com ( UK Acceptance Rate , par. 2). The GPA, following the admission rate and ACT, is acceptable also. • 4. The Latest Cycle Of Trade Negotiations Introduction The Doha Development Agenda, referred to as the Doha Round, is the latest cycle of trade negotiations among World Trade Organization member governments and was officially launched at the WTO s Fourth Ministerial Conference in Doha, Qatar, in November 2011. Following eight rounds of multilateral trade talks since World War II, the Doha Round is the first that is explicitly geared toward facilitating the induction of developing countries into the global market and effectuating economic growth as a result. Bullet points on the agenda include reductions in tariffs and farm subsidies, as well as liberalizing trade in services through lowering taxes and regulatory barriers that impede cross border trade in services such as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This essay will clarify these misconceptions that have impeded the progress of the Doha Round. Developing Countries Can Benefit From Their Own Reforms A prominent misconception is that trade liberalisation in rich countries harm the growth of agricultural industries in developing countries. Essentially, agricultural industries in developing countries suffer due to Europe depressing the world price while keeping out efficient suppliers such as Brazil and Thailand, and also it destroys prospects for some of the least developed countries (LDCs) such as Mozambique (Oxfam, 2002). Import Barriers Discourage Exports Barriers to trade in developing countries can hinder their economic growth by inducing disincentives to export. Tariffs on imports create a bias against exports by lowering the domestic relative price of exports, changing wages and rental rates that are absorbed by the export sector, and increasing the cost of imported intermediate inputs used by export sectors (Tockarick, 2006). Hence, import protection can function as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Compare And Contrast The Virginia And Massachusetts Bay... Virginia and Massachusetts Bay Colonies In 1607, the first permanent English settlement in the New World, known as the Virginia Colony, was founded. Working under the Church of England, this colony established the basis of English settlement in the New World. Soonthereafter, during 1620, the Puritans arrived, eventually forming the Massachusetts Bay Colony. The colonists were seeking religious freedom from the Church of England. In the Instructions for the Virginia Colony and the City on a Hill Speech articles, trade and religion were the two most prominent factors. Through this, we can better form the purpose of the Virginia and Massachusetts Bay colonies and how they affected the future of America. Throughout the Instructions for the Virginia Company, the investors for the Virginia Company discuss the instructions that the future colonists must abide by. The main focus throughout the piece is to find the strongest, most wholesome and fertile place to better receive the trade of all the countries. Due to the Virginia Colony working under the Church of England, the colonists goal in the New World was to primarily spread their trade to make a larger profit for the king. • 6. A Research Study On Adolescent Suicide Essay Facilitating Connection and Saving Lives The purpose of this paper is to detail a group aimed to provide support for lesbian, gay, and bisexual (LGB) adolescents. The paper begins by examining literature related to adolescent suicide rates, the lack of personal and community resources for teenagers, and adolescent development and mental health. The paper will then address the methodology, purpose, and goals of the group. The paper will address the role of the leader. He/she will utilize an Adlerian theoretical orientation and will be involved, directive, and authentic. The leader will attempt to facilitate social relatedness and corrective emotional experiences for group members. The paper will briefly review group evaluation, and it will examine potential ethical/multicultural issues that this leader and group may encounter. The paper will conclude by detailing activities that will be utilized throughout the six weeks of the group experience. Literature Review Adolescent Suicide and Distress One young person age ten to 19 takes his/her own life every 90 minutes (Gould et al. as cited in Kitts, 2005, p. 622). Russell and Joyner revealed that adolescents who identify as gay or lesbian are two times more likely to attempt suicide than straight adolescents (as cited in Kitts, 2005, p. 624). The risk factor for suicide for gay and lesbian adolescents is not their sexuality, but psychosocial distress they experience due to their sexuality (Kitts, 2005). Adolescents ... • 7. Canoeing In Canad A Brief Textual Analysis I know from experience the fear and terror that struck my eyes when canoeing down a lake in Canada. A few years ago back in 2014 I went camping in Canada, but this is not just any sort of camping trip, with a nice rustic log cabin fitted with WiFi to make your camping experience more pleasurable . No,no,no, this was REAL camping. Miles and miles away from any sort of any human civilization with no more supplies than what you bring on your back. This was a canoeing backpacking trip meaning my family and I rented a few vessels (canoes) and brought all our supplies on our backs to be carried and shipped the entirety of the trip. Did I mention that the distance of this trip was close to seventy miles? I first arrived in Canada excited to be put into pure nature and experience the first real camping trip. It was a pretty windy day this day and normally I wouldn t think too much of it, and I didn t. So we got to the middle of the lake and filtered the water that we had needed and were going to row back and we had started to paddle back, or we at least tried. Little did I know what such mild winds can do to affect the current of the water. We rowed as hard and as fast as we would yet were barely moving, the thought of being blown away was not a happy thought. I dug down deep and gave the rowing everything I had. • 8. Industrialization in India Need for Trend of Industrialization in India What is Industry? In its broadest sense, industry is any work that is undertaken for economic gain and that promotes employment. The word may be applied to a wide range of activities, from farming to manufacturing and tourism. It encompasses production at any scale, from the local sometimes known as cottage industry to the multinational or transnational. In a more restricted sense, industry refers to the production of goods, especially when that production is accomplished with machines. It is this limited definition of industry that is embodied by the notion of industrialization: the transition to an economy based on the large scale, machine assisted production of goods by a concentrated, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ironically, de industrialization in the three countries mentioned above has been accompanied by a growth in the high tech industries in areas such as the Côte d Azur in France; Silicon Valley in California; and along the M4 motorway, around Cambridge, and in central Scotland the so called Silicon Glen in the UK. The long term impact of de industrialization has yet to be felt. It may be the speed of the process, rather than the process itself, that needs careful management. Transnational Corporations Probably the most significant industrial development since the 1960s has been the rise of the multinational or transnational company. Examples of these companies, which operate in many countries, are Ford, General Motors, IBM, Siemens, and Matsushita Electrical. United Nations (UN) estimates that investment by transnational companies has risen by 13 per cent per year over the last 20 years, largely because more and more governments are accepting these firms into their countries. Nevertheless, the growth of multinational corporations has raised a number of concerns. An enormous amount of production power is concentrated in the hands of a few controllers, which means that the countries involved become directly susceptible to economic changes in other parts of the world. The transfer of assets from one country to another may be difficult for governments to manage or prevent, and there are likely to be disparities in the treatment of different countries. The computation of accumulated amortization is as follows. Amortization for 2005 and 2006 ($1,000,000/10) X 2 $200,000 2007 amortization: ($1,000,000 $200,000) ÷ (6 2) 200,000 Accumulated amortization, 12/31/07 $400,000 2. Because it is uncertain that Alatorre will be able to retain the franchise at the end of 2015, it should be amortized over 10 years. The amount of amortization on the franchise for the year ended December 31, 2007, is $40,000: ($400,000/10). 3. These costs should be expensed as incurred. Sometimes they are merely backdrops to the human element of the story but in stories such as The Odyssey the gods play a prominent if not vital role to the central themes of the story. Fate has a place in the Greek world but is place is not the same as it is in other scenarios or worlds. It is important to understand the word before we discuss it. Fate as far as Greek mythology goes is not just fate, by most standards fate is described as things that occur for an unknown reason that no one has any control over. However, knowledge of an act doesn t take away the fact that Odysseus chose himself. Ann, a critic of The Odyssey says, Blaming the gods for your faults doesn t always work, though. There s a difference between having a fate and accepting your fate. The real heroes never give in. (Ann par. 26) That difference, between having fate and accepting it, is free will. Once the gods have controlled the fate of certain people, the gods let the happenings take course. It is true that the gods interfere with the lives of the people, but that will never take away their free will. [3] The availability of RDDs facilitates the implementation of both iterative algorithms that visit their dataset multiple times in a loop, and exploratory data analysis, which is the querying of data repeatedly. The latency of applications builds with spark compared to Hadoop, a MapReduce platform may be reduced by several orders of magnitude. [3] Another key aspect of apache spark is that it makes writing code easy and quickly. This is as a result of over 80 high level operators included in with spark library. This is evidence as spark comes with a REPL an interactive shell. The REPL can be used t0 test the outcome of each line of code without coding the entire job. As a result, ad hoc data analysis is possible and code is made much shorter. Apache Spark is well complemented with set of high level libraries that can be easily used in the same application. These include Spark SQL, Spark Streaming, MLlib and GraphX which we will explain in details in this paper. 2 Spark Core Spark core is at the base of the apache spark foundation. • 18. William Woolf s The Lighthouse Woolf s To the Lighthouse is written in a Modernist style, is very philosophical, does not have a traditional casual plot, and focuses on the exploration of the mind. Woolf uses experimental techniques, such as writing as a stream of consciousness in order to present the experience, subconscious minds, and the conscious thoughts of characters. The sense of a clear authorial narrator is missing as Woolf describes the minds of her characters in poetic images and her free flowing style allows Woolf to flit between different characters minds and examine experience through various shifting perspectives. The use of this form allows her to focus on particular moments within the novel, and the plot is created by following the train of thoughts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As Julian Hanna wrote, The inward turn or exploration of the psyche often said to characterize modernist literature is difficult to imagine without Freud . Woolf seems uninterested in the external influences that occur during the period of the novel, and passes over significant events such as World War One, and the marriage and deaths of her characters, effectively capturing these within 10 concise chapters. The novel does not progress on a what happens next basis, but progresses by following the continual activity of characters consciousness and impressions, moving forward by a series of scenes arranged according to a sequence of several particular moments of consciousness. Writing in this style allows Woolf to convey her characters using very little physical description, so we are left to interpret them through the thoughts and opinions of other characters. Therefore it is hard for the reader to interpret because it is unclear whose perspective the opinion is from, and we do not know if they are reliable. Woolf filters all of the different characters thoughts together, and translates their emotions by writing poetically in a stream of consciousness. This allows Woolf to distort time by focusing on individual moments and skimming over others, therefore stretching out certain periods of time and condensing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Today, we tell the story of how a British attack on Fort McHenry in the port of Baltimore led to The Star Spangled Banner, America s national anthem. In the summer of 1814, British forces attacked Washington, DC. They burned the Capitol building, the White House and other public buildings. Then they withdrew to their ships in the Chesapeake Bay. British General Robert Ross and Admiral George Cockburn led the attack on Washington. Next they planned to attack Baltimore. But the people of Baltimore expected the attack, and began to prepare for it. Fifty thousand of them built defenses around the city. The port of Baltimore was protected by Fort McHenry. The guns and cannon of the fort could prevent British ships from reaching the city. The British began with a land attack against Baltimore. General Ross, Admiral Cockburn and about 4,000 British soldiers landed at North Point, a finger of land reaching into the Chesapeake Bay. From North Point, it was a march of about 22 kilometers to Baltimore. The British began marching at about seven in the morning. General Ross and Admiral Cockburn stopped their men after an hour. The two commanders and several of their officers rode to a nearby farmhouse and forced the family living there to give them breakfast. Statement Of Purpose For Graduate Study Conrad Damstra Statement of Purpose for Graduate Study Philosophy Doctoral Program at Stanford University I wouldn t be doing philosophy if I didn t think it progressed, and that we know now more than we did a century ago. For that reason, I don t view its history as a story of the clash of defensible but irreconcilable views, from which the most we can expect is a sympathetic understanding of how things looked to the participants. (Scott Soames) For the value of the history of philosophy . . . lies not only in the fact that we can learn from our predecessors how to address in different ways the questions that concern us, but also in the fact that we can learn from them how to ask different questions, or how to ask our questions differently. (Paul Franks) These quotes provide different pictures about the history of philosophy. The notion of progress plays a key role in Soames account. Because we know more now than we did in the past, Soames claims the history of philosophy should involve a careful analysis of both the achievements and insights that have allowed the field to progress as well as the missteps which have frustrated this process. Soames would have history vindicate our current philosophical understanding. Paul Franks, on the other hand, wants to problematize this straightforward account of how we progressed from the past to the present. Instead of using your fingers to help distribute the cards, let s use friction. The key to expanding your reverse spread is regulated by how much you slide the cards across one another. Taking a Look at Australian Courtrooms Australian courtrooms are highly ritualised spaces where various long serving customs and traditions are strictly followed in order to constitute events of power, and also featured in the relative power relations. As was evident by the local courtrooms visited within The Downing Centre, the architecture, language, courtroom actors and spatial organisation demonstrate the numerous levels of power, of which are present. This usage of power is evident as visible through the relationships between the courtroom actors, particularly those between the judge or magistrate, the witnesses and lastly, the lawyers. These relations significantly highlight the disparity of power between these individuals. Simultaneously, the courtroom architecture of which is present also signals and represents the different levels of power during court proceedings. In addition, the use of legal jargon in one s favour is also a worthy indicator of attaining this much sought after power aforementioned. Within a courtroom, power relations are revealed at their greatest extent, in the instances of the interaction between the different courtroom actors. During the observation of a particular criminal case, it became clear to myself that the chain of power in a courtroom features the judge or magistrate at the top, followed by the lawyer (or defendant if they are representing themselves), with the witnesses and defendants at the bottom. Charles Dickens Struggles During the Victorian era, which spanned from 1837 to 1901 under the reign of Queen Victoria, there was a great growth in the industry and in prosperity for Great Britain, and coupled with this growth was another in the social classes, particularly with an emphasis on the fine upper class. This growth of focus on the upper class and subsequently the lack of focus on the poor lower class were brought to the attention of author Charles Dickens, and he, one of many times, chronicles the ideals of social classes in his acclaimed 1860 1861 work entitled Great Expectations. A never ending cycle of pain, and harsh conditions From being in 12 years of slavery, Solomon Northup recounts the time when he had once been a free man to be kidnapped of that freedom back in 1841. The relationships that Northup encountered were neither positive or negative . From friends he gained or his slave masters, the relationships were shaped by slavery and helped intact the slave system. In those relationships, how the supervisors of the slaves treated them impacted the slaves work ethic and the friendships that were made during this harsh time, thus supporting the slave system. One of the first social relationship Solomon encountered when he entered slavery was James H. Burch. When Solomon was captured, Burch chained him up and put him in a cell; something Solomon was not used to at all. Although he claimed he was a free man, Burch beat him every time he said he was, and forcing Solomon to say he was from Georgia. Burch frightened Solomon with his beatings and threatening words and because of how cruel Burch was, Solomon kept his mouth shut and refused to say he was a free man to any of his future slave masters, fearing of the treatment again. With James Burch treating the slaves in that matter; implemented to the system of slavery, forcing the slaves to become who they wanted them to be. • 41. The Effects Of Thalidomide And Its Effects On Children Thalidomide Paper Thalidomide is a drug that was invented in Germany in the 1950 s. It was originally intended to treat respiratory infections but during testing, it was noted that the drug worked to relieve morning sickness for pregnant women. This new reason allowed the drug to be prescribed to many new patients all over the world. Eventually Thalidomide was discovered to be causing birth defects in all of the pregnant women that were taking it. It caused the fetus to not develop correctly by causing limbs of the body or ears to develop improperly or not develop at all. It also cause spinal cord and digestive system defects as well as problems to the heart and kidneys. Thalidomide stopped being prescribed but not before many children and families were affected worldwide who had taken the drug. It took a couple of years before other countries caught up to realize that thalidomide was causing the birth defects and removed from being an over the counter drug in many countries. It wasn t until 1961 that it was completely removed after it was confirmed that it was causing birth defects. More than 10000 babies were born with defects and approximately killed 2000 before birth, but fewer than 100 were born here in the U.S. Short term effects included possible still born babies, and children with many health problems and complications that severely impacted their quality of life. How much damage the Thalidomide did to the fetus depended on how early on the mother took the drug. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Acculturation of ethnic minorities Acculturation is the process which occurs when two cultures meet together; it leads to psychological and cultural changes (Berry, 2005). This process of changes can be going for years or generations. It should be stressed that acculturation is a dual process and the changes can be found in both cultural groups. One of the first definitions of acculturation can be found in the work of Redfield, Linton and Herskovits, which is widely used nowadays because of the works of Berry (1990; 1997). This definition says that acculturation comprehends those phenomena which result when groups of individuals having different cultures come into continuous first hand contact with subsequent changes in the original culture patterns of either or both groups (by Berry 1997).
