Village Disaster Management Plan (VDMP)Independent
A Village Disaster Management Plan (VDMP) / Community Contingency Plan (CCP), prepared in active participation of the local community, using PRA tools.
Disaster management (or emergency management) is the effort of communities or businesses to plan for and coordinate all personnel and materials required to either mitigate the effects of, or recover from, natural or man-made disasters, or acts of terrorism.
Today's world is full of unexpected events so as a nurse we have to prepare ourself to face that situation for that we should know disaster management.
COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION IN DISASTER MANAGEMENTYash Shah
The government alone cannot and will not be able to manage and handle all types of disasters with its machinery without active participation by the people of any country, according to a common theory given by policy makers, experts, and professionals. Failures of topdown effective disaster management approach to reduce risks from of disasters land evidence to this notion. As a consequence, numerous scholars and stakeholders feel that it is high time to adopt a new strategy that will involve vulnerable people directly in planning and implementation of mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery measures. This is because communities are the best judges of their own vulnerability and are capable of making the best decisions regarding their well-being.
This philosophy involves local level people, leaders and community to provide necessary services and logistics to the victims during and after the disaster. Such a strategy has been encouraged both in the developed and the developing countries and launched on Community- Based Disaster Management (CBDM) strategy.
Disaster recovery needs to ensure people’s ability to participate in, negotiate with, influence, control and hold accountable the institutions that affect their lives during the recovery process. In this manner, people-centered recovery programmes respond to the needs and priorities of affected communities, build on their knowledge, skills and capacities, are more culturally appropriate, ensure ownership and empowerment, and have a much better prospect for success.
Participation can also enhance the effectiveness and results of post-disaster recovery. Engaging people and their communities helps to improve the delivery and quality of recovery services, enhances social inclusion, and brings greater transparency and accountability.
A disaster can be defined as any occurrence that cause damage, ecological disruption, loss of human life, deterioration of health and health services on a scale, sufficient to warrant an extraordinary response from outside the affected community or area.

3. INTRODUCTION:
Nowadays disasters has become more and are
occurring often.
They should be managed properly to save the
lives of affected people. Let us see the
management of disasters in village areas.

5.
6. WHAT IS DISASTER MANAGEMENT?
Disaster Management can be defined as the
organization and management of resources and
responsibilities for dealing with all humanitarian
aspects of emergencies, in particular preparedness,
response and recovery in order to lessen the impact
of disasters.
7.
8. WHAT IS VDMC?
(1) Village Disaster Management Committee is
a committee in which some of the cautious people of a
village make some important measures for the management
of disasters coming their village.
(2) Village Disaster Management Plan is
defined as the planning process of the VDMC.
9. WHO DOES WHAT IN A DISASTER?
• The mayor is responsible at the administrative level for the smooth running
of the response effort.
• The fire service is the linchpin in disaster response. The fire chief is
charged with the operational management of the response effort.
• Regional accident and disaster medical teams do immediate actions after
disaster.
• The police will ensure that the fire and ambulance services can do their
job.
• The Municipal services play an important role in disaster response,
especially when it comes to the after-effects. If whole streets or
neighbourhoods have to be evacuated, for instance, the municipality is
responsible for the residents’ immediate welfare.
11. •The VDMC has a variety of teams for playing
different roles before , after and during a
disaster.
•Based on the skills required, the villagers decide on
the volunteers to be a part of in each of the
teams.
•Let us see some of the teams of VDMC.
12. TEAMS OF VDMC:
•Early warning and communication team
•Evacuation and Temporary Shelter Management team
•Search and Rescue team
•Health and First aid team
•Relief coordination team
•Water and Sanitation team
13. HOW A MEMBER OF VDMC SHOULD BE?
•Member of VDMC should be the first responder for
people’s needs.
•He/She should be attentive always.
•He/She should be a big source of information about disasters
and their managements.
•He/She should be well-trained.
•He/She should awarness amongst the people of their
village.
14. WHAT ARE THE ROLES OF VDMC?
•The committee should
talk
discuss
converse
ponder
and do everything before , during and
after any disaster.
15. •It creates awareness to the people before disaster.
•It guides the preparation of management of the
disaster properly.
•It tries to rescue people during disaster.
•It reduces the impact of the disaster.
•It is responsible for the treatment of affected
people after disaster.
18. CONCLUSION:
In India , the disaster management systems
are not enough according to my opinion. As disasters
have increased , the management teams should also
increase to rescue the people. We should become
more aware of disasters and try to prevent them as
much as possible.
