Analysis Of The Movie The Martian
Throughout the movie, The Martian, the story revolves around the main character, Mark Watney, who
has to survive alone on a Mars by utilizing his skills in botany, as well as other subjects. Mark faces
multiple problems throughout the movie, that make his survival extremly hard. Other than botany,
there were many other sciences used by Watney to survive on Mars. , including physics. An example
of this is when making a battery last longer on the rover, he removes the battery in order to make the
rover lighter, and he removed weight from the shuttle that was used to escape the planet. Watney uses
medical science (when he had to remove the piece of shrapnel and staple his wound. Other problems
included the lack of food, having the HAB (the headquarters for the mission), and having to travel a
large distance in a rover that was meant to only go a short distance. The first problem he faced was not
having enough food to survive until he could be rescued. Luckily, he had a large amount of food for
the crew that was left in the HAB. He calculates how long he could make the rations last but comes to
the conclusion that he will still not have enough food to last him until the next manned mission to
Mars. Mark rationalizes that through his botany skills he might be able to grow food inside the HAB;
he settles on potatoes. . He then uses his human waste, mixed with water and Martian soil, to make
soil suitable for growing potatoes. The next step of growing potatoes was finding

The Assassination Of Archduke Franz Ferdinand
The assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand was one of the most significant events in the domino
like sequence that triggered the start of the Great War. With tensions growing tighter between Serbia
and Austria Hungary, any malicious action from one country could provoke the other to declare war,
and the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand incentivized Austria Hungary to do just that.
Austria Hungary declared war on Serbia exactly one month after the heir to the Austro Hungarian
throne was assassinated in Bosnia, however it would be far from the truth to say that this matter only
pertained to Serbia and Austria Hungary. Growing ethnic nationalism at the turn of the 19th Century
stemmed the increasing tensions between Serbia and Austria Hungary that began to especially take
shape during the Balkan Wars. Serbs, Bulgarians and Albanians all wanted to establish independent
nation states, and their efforts to do so threatened Austria Hungary. Serbia sought out to build a state
that would include all ethnic Serbs, which resulted in being openly hostile towards Austria Hungary, a
nation containing large amounts of Serbian minorities. Serbia was prepared to carry on a series of
struggles in order to win back territories that were occupied by their fellow nationals; namely, Serbia
wanted Austria to give up Bosnia, which was inhabited by many Serbs. Austria, however, wanted to
suppress these nationalist movements, and in 1908 annexed the territories of Bosnia and

Description of Ambulatory Care and Hospitalization Care Essay
As early as the 1990 s, outpatient care only made up for 10 to 15% of a hospital s total profits,
compared to inpatient care. Since the start of the twenty first century, this figure has increased to
approximately 60%. This shift in healthcare has been occurring in different medical organizations
such as university medical centers, local hospitals, for profit chains, and not for profit suppliers. The
increase in outpatient services compared to inpatient has been showing no indication of slowing down.
The main reason for the development in outpatient care is because of all the medical advancements in
techniques and technology that allow for patients to be treated less invasively. Health care
organizations are now being compensated in a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The development of walk in clinics at the local CVS Pharmacy or Wal Mart are part of the
freestanding facilities that provide people in communities easier access to treatment without going to a
hospital ED. Additionally, the evident convenience aspect of bringing full emergency services to
communities, freestanding centers may be less likely to resort to hospital admissions as an outlet to
drive throughput. The incentive for ASCs is to emphasize volume and higher rates, while hospitals are
considered to regulate utilization. Looking closely, the main purpose originates from ASCs lower cost
profile compared to hospitals with the additional benefit of the likely to evade inpatient expenditure.
Within ambulatory clinics, there are three levels of service that are preformed based on the type of
diagnosis and treatment recommendations. Level one ambulatory service is considered an option to
inpatient care with both patient and service parts that corresponds with the point of intensity. The role
of this level is to offer alleviation from acute symptom reducing mechanisms such as less severe
residential constituents such as the family treatment home for children. Level two ambulatory services
are set apart by effective treatment; regularly with a rehab or transitional process that is built in to the
care plan. This process is complete in a staff supported setting that expands past the care setting into
the important sections of the patient s district

Essay on Women s Role in Society in the 1800s
AP American History Women s Role in Society During the early 1800 s women were stuck in the Cult
of Domesticity. Women had been issued roles as the moral keepers for societies as well as the
nonworking house wives for families. Also, women were considered unequal to their male
companions legally and socially. However, women s efforts during the 1800 s were effective in
challenging traditional intellectual, social, economical, and political attitudes about a women s place
in society. The foundation of colleges for women as well as events at women s rights conventions
intellectually challenged society s views on women s traditional roles. As education became more of a
public governmental service, the educational ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Women s rights activists influenced the nation to believe that women were men s equals, changing
traditional women social roles. During the 1800 s a husband had legal authority over their wife. In a
sense, he owned her, and for that reason women had little respect in their culture. However, as women
pursued their cause for equal rights, many men began to see women as their equals. This gained them
greater respect within their culture. An example of one of the social changes that occurred because of
women s rights movements was when Lucy Stone kept her maiden name even after she became
married. Fifty years before the women s rights movements began a small event like this would have
never been allowed within the community. As women in the 1800 s fought for women s rights, slowly
female social roles began to change. With the help of the Industrial Revolution, women made
significant strives in changing the traditional economic roles given to females. Before the industrial
revolution the only opportunity for a woman to be financially secure was for that woman to marry a
financially secure husband. This created women s dependence on men because if the man died they
would have no source of income. The Industrial Revolution provided many women with jobs of their
own helping women to become self dependant. This self dependence allowed for women to pursue
interests not involving men, such as

Who Is The Sexist In The Little Mermaid
Swimming Against the Current
Disney s film The Little Mermaid (1989) is the earliest most significant transition into portraying a
strong female protagonist after a history of purposeless princesses who never demonstrated
personality attributes other than delicateness. Nevertheless among Disney s critics, Roberta Trites
responds in her essay Disney s Sub/Version of Andersen s The Little Mermaid that characters, images,
and conflicts of the film rob women of integrity, making the movie even more sexist than the original
story by Andersen. Disney s film industry used to be notable for their depictions of weak minded and
superficial princesses that taught the young generations, especially girls to be submissive to men and
exclusively pretty. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As an example, Roberta Trites illuminates how even though the mermaid has suffered much more at
the hands of the sea witch than the prince has, it is the prince who kills the witch (Trites, 137). In her
logic, this misattribution of power promotes sexist values that teach young girls that they shouldn t
possess such might; to leave that to men. A matter that remains unaddressed is that in this film,
robbing Ariel the right to overcome the antagonist is not to implement the sexist value of female
helplessness; In this case, it is more to balance or reciprocate the fact that Ariel had previously been
the hero. In the film The Little Mermaid, Ariel saved Prince Eric first (Clements 24:43). Contrary to
popular sexist norms that men rescue the girl, Prince Eric is the damsel in distress. A sexist film would
never portray a male as vulnerable and dependent on a woman unless said male was being ridiculed.
Therefore, it is evident how the sexist value of women being submissive to men is not encouraged in
the film, for Ariel held the empowerment that comes from being the determinant factor in a man s life.
Supplementary, the film highlights women empowerment and disfavors sexism against women when
Ariel takes over the carriage where Prince Eric and she are traveling (Clements, 58:24 58:43). What is
important is that the Prince does not repress Ariel for doing so. In fact, it is shown that the prince is
impressed with Ariel maneuvering the carriage successfully and even sits back and relaxes while Ariel
continues to drive. Ariel is admired by the Prince for this display of power and most importantly
trusted to go on. If The Little Mermaid was a sexist film Ariel would have been portrayed as too
delicate to control the carriage and drive it

How Subversive Approaches Influence Others Align With An...
This week s case study has this author postulating if the use of subversive approaches to influence
others align with an individual s moral compass. Within this week s case study, this author is asked to
examine a situation where James O Keefe, a conservative activist, meets with the senior fundraiser for
National Public Radio (NPR), Ron Schiller, to discuss a potential donation of $5 million from an
ethnic organization. Unbeknownst to Schiller, his meeting with O Keefe was secretly recorded and
after imaginative alteration, is released, causing a tarnished reflection on not only Schiller, but NPR.
NPR could be considered a grass roots approach to community communication. As a non profit,
member supported platform, NPR provides stimulation for logical thinking, discussion, and even
question. Moreover, according to NPR (n.d) the organization is guided by accountability and
transparency in order to maintain credibility. As such, due to the blemish caused by O Keefe s
subversive approach to what seemed to be driven by a desire to halt federal money filtering into NPR
for broadcasting purposes, both NPR s chief executive and Schiller resigned. Merriam Webster (n.d.)
defines subversion as the secret act of ruining or destroying. Subversive tactics have been utilized by
individuals, organizations, and governments to sabotage or weaken individual and organizational
structures. Is it morally right to do so? Does this form of sabotage justify the means to an end? Who s

mountain summit they began their descent the cornice fell through, resulting in Jai and his companion
to be separated on the other side of the slope. Jai fell on the snow in the Himalayas at close to 24,000

The moral aspect of this story is that of the shepherd woman who selflessly took up the fate of another
individual as her personal responsibility. She realized that she had to help this stranger because she
had the ability to do so. The woman refused to leave a stranger (Jai) until his journey was secured and
then she refused Jai s offer of payment for her kindness and generosity. This deed was done based on
her obvious personal ethical values which proved to be moral.
The stakeholders are anyone who was affected by the decisions that were made, in this case Jai and his
companion were the extreme stake holders and consequently it trickled down to a shepherd woman
and eventually several others. Jai was affected most since all the decisions made affected him directly
throughout the story. The shepherd woman, the village officials, and the physician were also affected
and therefore can be considered stakeholders. The assumptions of Jai and his companion were that
since they were both healthy and experienced at climbing despite their youth, when the 1 p.m. turn
around time came, the decision to press on had been easy to make, which was to continue on since the
prospects of doing it another day held little appeal to both men. Their assumptions did affect the
problem above, since they should

Descriptive Writing About A Rose Garden
As the sun slowly peaked out of the horizon in Riverside, California, the scorching sun and unbearable
heat come along with it. Covering this dry city, Riverside fell into a moist, humid atmosphere. Besides
this, the day was bright and early for a hike up to the 40 acres University of California, Riverside
Botanical Gardens. As I hiked there, all I can think about is the sweat escaping my body, running
down my skin. However, luckily, a thick Oak bench with a shade roof sat directly above from me to I
can hide myself from the tortuous beaming sunlight. Even though sweat continued to drip down, I
wiped off most of it due to over heating of my body. Once I was comfortable on the bench, I looked
up and around, realizing I ended up in the Rose Garden of the Botanical gardens. The rose garden was
located on the top of a man made hill just right of the giant 18 footed trees. This hill had a warm,
humid breeze combined from the Pacific Ocean and hot Riverside hot weather. provided a hub of
different types of singing birds, graceful butterflies, buzzing beetles, tall trees, and a variety of flowers
from all over the world. As I walked into the garden, there were several rows of different species of
roses with different colors. Surrounding the rows of animated flowers, the flowers were sectioned off
in four with bright orange, mellow yellow, pure white, odd purple, fierce red, and light pink. As well,
three benches placed purposefully on the perimeter of the rectangular garden. I

Classifying and Treating a Fracture of a Bone
A fracture is a break or disruption in the continuity of the bone that often affects mobility and
sensation. It can occur anywhere in the body and at any age (Ignatavicius Workman, 2013, p. 1144).
All fractures follow the same mechanism and require similar care regardless of type or location.
(Ignatavicius Workman, 2013, p. 1144) A fracture is classified by the severity of the break being either
complete or incomplete fractures: A complete fracture is a break along the width of the bone resulting
in the bone being separated into two sections. An incomplete fracture is a fracture that does not result
in the separation of bone because the break is only partially through the bone. (Ignatavicius Workman,
2013, p. 1144) A closed (simple) fracture does not cause injury to the skin and, therefore, does not
have any noticeable wound. This type of fracture still needs to be managed by stabilization of the bone
and realignment if necessary. Open fractures are ones in which a portion of the bone breaks through
the skin or a wound penetrates through to a fractured bone (American Academy of Orthopedic
Surgeons, 2011). Open fractures frequently involve more damage to surrounding tendons, ligaments,
and muscles than in a closed fractures. They take a longer time to heal and are at increased risk for
complications (American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, 2011). Open fractures represent a range
of injury: first, the basic underlying problem of the fracture; second, the

Imagery In The Starry Night

The night sky portrayed by van Gogh in the Starry Night painting is filled with whirling clouds,
shining stars, and a bright sickle shaped moon. The setting is one so that viewers can relate to and van
Gogh´s swirling sky directs the viewer´s eye around the painting, with spacing between the stars and
the curving silhouette creating a dot to dot effect. These internal elements secure the fluidity and such
silhouette was important for the artist even though they became less significant for other
Impressionists. Therefore, Starry Night´s composition was different from the Impressionist technique
of the 19th century.

Comparison Of Cathy And Abra In John Steinbeck s East Of Eden
The personalities of the two most influential women in John Steinbeck s novel East of Eden, Cathy
and Abra, are complex. One is evil, and the other is good. Despite their different personalities, they are
surprisingly similar. Moreover, the women s involvement in the story portrays the cycle of good
conquering evil. Steinbeck describes Cathy as the Eve of the Trask family and depicts her as
serpentlike and catlike. Her sly and calculated personality prevents her from completing a task without
precise and careful planning. Therefore, when Cathy, a being who lacks a certain aspect of humanity,

The rise of rock n roll and the reception of it, in fact, can tell us a lot about the culture and values of
the United States in the 1950s. According to historians James Gilbert, there was a struggle throughout
the decade over the uses of popular culture to determine who would speak to what audience, and for
what purpose . At the center of that struggle, rock n roll unsettled a nation had been living in an age of
anxiety since 1945 (p.15). Altschuler talks about how music and race interlock with one another. Rock
had become a highly visible and contested arena for struggles over racial identity and cultural and
economic empowerment in the United States (p.35). Other chapters within the book state the battles
involving sexuality, generational conflicts, as well as other social issues. The author states ideas that
are somewhat problematic. For example, he states that there is a myth that rock n roll went into a lull
following the payola hearings (the practice of record promoters paying DJs or radio programmers to
play their labels songs) of 1959 and did not come about again until the arrival of the Beatles in 1964.
Rock n roll presented us with the emergence of a cultural phenomenon, which the book lays out for
us. Altschuler sees rock as a metaphor for integration, as the focal point for anxiety that cultural life in
the U.S. had become sexualized , a catalyst

Natural gas is one of the most beneficial resource our environment has to offer to us and people need
to use this resource because it is so cheap. Companies include the Prius with Toyota, the Leaf with
Nissan or another innovation in electric or hybrid motoring who are using electricity in their cars
because they are trying to get in to the environmental friendly automotive market. Honda came out
with a better idea when they made the Honda Civic Natural Gas car. The reasons being, this car is
different than those of the electric cars is that it uses natural gas to run the car and the positive effect it
has on the environment is the fact that when using the resource it gives off partial zero emissions into
the environment. Honda Civic has really changed the automobile industry because people are copying
their idea of using natural gas to run their cars like Chevy did with their 2014 F 150 truck and ... Show

save about 926 dollars a year by switching to natural gas. Natural gas will help out many businesses
but in the automotive industry it will help them out a lot because then can now produce cars on the
assembly line again because of the recession took a toll on this industry. It will also help UPS out
because they can switch to natural gas when it come to their fleets which were using diesel to run. The

Improper Inhaler Technique
Project Title: Whether educate patients on pressurized metered dose inhaler (pMDI) technique at
community pharmacy improves patients asthma control
Introduction
Asthma is a chronic inflammatory disorder of the airways, which requires treatment using
bronchodilators and inhaled corticosteroids. Inhalation route is the most direct and efficient way to
deliver high amount of drugs to the airways with least systematic side effects. Improper use of the
inhaler device is one of the most common reasons for poor asthma control as it can reduce
effectiveness and the amount of drugs reaches to the airways (AL Jahdali et al. 2013). SIGN (2016)
and NICE (2013) recommend that when initiate any new inhaler, patients should be trained on proper

(2013) addressed the severity caused by improper inhaler technique. In the study, majority patients
were using pMDI and almost half of the sample population did not receive education on inhaler
technique by any healthcare providers. Patients without any education were more likely to use inhaler
improperly and improper inhaler technique led to irregular follow ups, poor asthma control and more
emergency department visits. Therefore, inhaler technique education is crucial for asthma patients.
Llic et al. (2016) conducted a study assessing the influence of dry powder inhaler technique education
on the control of asthma and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). During the study,
patients visited pulmonologists once a month for 3 months, at each visit patients were educated on
inhaler technique and the pulmonologists assessed patients disease control using the global
assessment. The result from the study showed that patients obtained significant improvement in
inhaler technique and disease control after each visit at the pulmonologists. This study further
supported the importance of inhaler technique education on respiratory disease control and suggested
that educate patients on inhaler technique should be considered to achieve better disease control. On
the other hand, there were studies that investigated the role of pharmacists on patients inhaler
technique education and the benefit from it. Giraud et al. (2011) conducted a study aiming to
investigate the possibility of inhaler training by pharmacists and the impact on asthma control. The
study result showed that the majority patients did not receive optimal inhaler technique education
from the prescribers before pharmacists counselling. However, Patients had improved in inhaler
technique and asthma control after pharmacists educational intervention. Moreover, inhaler training by
pharmacists took relatively short period of time, which could match with daily practice.

Overcrowding and Urban Planning in Victorian London Essay
Victorian London in Charles Dickens era was a city suffering under the weight of the masses of people
that lived there. In Dickens time, London was the largest city in the world, both due to its population
increase and the urban sprawl caused by influx of so many people. There were nearly 4 million
inhabitants of the Great City at the height of the Victorian age. This number was an increase of nearly
three million people over a period of approximately 30 years, there were many problems associated
with such explosive growth, problems which were most recognizable during Charles Dickens lifetime.
The migration from rural settings to an urban setting was common throughout the country but mainly
in London, which was prompted by the lack ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Committee of 1838:
other public benefits might in some cases be derived simultaneously with that principal object ,(1) in
particular the partial clearance of the Rookery of St. Giles by means of an extension of Oxford Street
to Hart Street. They based these conclusions on a mass of evidence they had taken on the desirability
of improved both public health and morals, and they had been regaled by the first hand accounts of the
brutish horrors of slum life in various parts of central London. It was hardly surprising, therefore, that
they insisted that the most important improvements . . . are in direct proportion to the degree in which
they embrace all the great purposes of amendment in respect of health and morals . . . by the removal
of congregations of vice and misery, and the introduction of a better police.(2) (Dyos 86)
As a result of overcrowding, the sanitation issue had to be contended with first and foremost. The
expansion and improvement of the streets, and the expansion of the rail system (including the
Underground) would in turn lead to implementation of the sewer system (which in London emptied
into the Thames.) When new streets were being planned or tramways being laid (for the omnibuses),
the main concern was not for aesthetics, but for sanitation. When questioned by the Royal

1. What are some of the most prominent cultural differences between the chosen country and the
United States? What could be the impact of these differences on business activities with each other?
Historical developments and cultural affiliations of various communities often define the economy of
a country. The culture is critical in dictating the traditions that led to the realization of a given
economic state both in the past and at present. A number of author have employed the cultural lenses

in the recently which has made a dramatic impact on the nation s economy? Does the current political

Politics and economic development are integral factors. The Chinese politics has been instrumental in
fueling the economic development of this country. The political system has limited the western culture
an aspect that has direct influence on the country s economy. The political system restricts the
democratic space for her citizens. Arguably, this restriction has been beneficial to the country because

Buachaillin Should Be Banned
Listening Journal An Buachaillin Ban is a tune that is a sean nòs, and thus considered a traditional
Irish song. There are no instruments and it is sung solo and in the Gaelic language. The melody is
unmetered with a varying rhythm in each verse and likely based on the young lady s own pattern of
speech. Because the song is unaccompanied, the singer is using a great deal of ornamentation to give
the tune more interest and aesthetic appeal. She has a small bit of nasal timbre that is more noticeable
at the end of certain phrases and, using some vibrato, she slides her notes to join words or phrases
together. The ornamentation differs in each verse adding character to the very long and very stylized
melody. She is telling a story and though ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Around the 1:47 mark the tune changes and switches from The Reel of Rio to The Woman of the
House . Both tunes have an extremely fast rhythm and are written in 4/4 time making them simple
quadruple metered with 4 beats per measure. The rhythmic pattern appears to repeat itself in binary
form, though it is difficult to follow. The tone in The Reel of Rio distinctly changes from low to high
after two measures and in The Woman of the House the tone remains mostly the same up to the end.
Both tunes are reels , which is the most popular tune type within the Irish dance music tradition
(Reel). As with all reels, they have the same structure, consisting largely of quaver (eighth note)
movement with an accent on the first and third beats of the bar. (Reel). These accents make it difficult
for this writer to count out the beats and therefore, unable to imagine dancing to these tunes.

Unmatched Socks
Before I officially start I m giving you a chance to see who is wearing unmatched socks. I prefer if

about unmatched socks. It isn t unusual to find me wearing unmatched socks. I have probably been
doing this since the time I started to dress myself. I m positive there are adults, seniors, kids, and other
teens who do this too. My speech includes tips to keep socks together, time spent matching socks,
where to find single socks, and sock trends. One reason why we wear mismatched socks is due to lost
socks. There isn t a need to throw out a perfectly good sock, so when we lose one sock in a pair we

No, there isn t. Missing socks are usually hiding around the house. The common places to find
missing socks are under beds, sofas, and lounge chairs. While moving your wet clothes to the dryer, in
between the tub and drum of your washing machine. Socks can also be found behind or near your
washer and dryer. For all those people who match their socks let s find out how much time you spend
altogether matching socks. If one person matches 7 pairs of socks each week for 71 years. In one week
they would spend 40 seconds matching socks. Not that big of a deal right? Over 71 years that is 41
hours wasted matching socks. To me that is a waste of time. Those 41 hours could ve been spent doing
something on your bucket list. Maybe spending outside on beautiful days. Worried your mismatch

make a statement, and are a good conversation starter. Try to use your socks to piece your outfit

keeping your socks the same length. To me wearing one ankle sock and one knee high sock seems
odd. But who knows if sometime soon the fashion world may accept two different lengths of

the Turks decapitated him. His head was sent to the Sultan who displayed it on a stake to prove that
the Impaler was finally dead. Vlad is remembered best for his vicious actions but there are some
differences in the way people view him. There are several stories, which some sources take more
serious than others, that list some of the horrendous acts that Vlad committed. In one, a boyar
complained of the stench of the impaled so Vlad had him impaled on a stake higher than all the others

His eyebrows were massive almost meeting over the nose, and with bushy hair that seemed to curl in
its own profusion. The mouth, so far as I could see it under the heavy moustache, was fixed and rather
cruel looking, with peculiarly sharp white teeth. These protruded over the lips, whose remarkable
ruddiness showed astonishing vitality in a man of his years. For the rest, his ears were pale and the
tops extremely pointed. The chin was broad and strong, and the cheeks firm though thin. The general
effect was one of extraordinary pallor. (Stoker)
Parts of this description may fit what is projected in ones mind when picturing the count, but other

Gun Control Fallacies
The author makes several main claims throughout his articles such as, national news stories are
virtually never done on permit holders stopping mass public shootings, and the proposals put forward
by gun control advocates wouldn t have stopped this attack. The columnist firmly believes in the
power of the second amendment and as such, he wants to limit the amount of new laws that control
how much the people can hold and use weapons. The claims listed are claims of fact and policy
respectively. He gives several examples of how these different prevented mass shootings were not
widely advertised and how the ones that were not stopped were all over news stations to convince
people that guns are not helping the common people. The author then proposes that the changes that
gun control advocates propose will not make a difference and begins to give reasons why which
makes this a claim of policy. He says that making a change will not make any change so the laws
should be left the same as they are now, or they should be more inclusive to allow more people to
carry a concealed weapon.
One of the main fallacies that the author uses in his articles is a hasty generalization. He uses the
example of the Texas shooter and his bad background that would have prevented a weapons liscence
to make the generalization that, their proposals wouldn t have stopped any of the other mass public
shootings in the last couple decades. The author does not back this claim up very well and

Essay about The Peloponnesian War
Throughout the Ancient Greek world, there have been many wars and standoffs. However, there has
been only one which changed the course of Greek history forever; the Peloponnesian War. Caused by
the growing tension between Athens and Sparta, it came and left, leaving only destruction in its wake.
The defeat of Athens in the Peloponnesian War caused the downfall of Greece, and the end of the
Classical Age. The roots of the Peloponnesian war can be traced long before 431 BCE, when it
officially started. It can be traced back to as early as the Persian Wars, where the Athenians had found
their home burned by the hands of the Persians. That disaster left the Athenians with no home and no

The battle between Sparta s well built army and Athens s exemplary navy was like a battle between a
bear and a shark. If the bear goes into the water, the shark wins. However, if the shark enters land, the
bear will kill it. The Athenian general and military genius Pericles knew this. Therefore, he devised a
strategy that was based on the strength of his navy and the Spartan inability to battle him on sea; he
devised a strategy of attrition where they would sit at home, and outlast the enemy (Kagan 52). In his
mind, if Athens disregarded the Spartan land attacks, and instead survived off sea trade from their
allies, the enemy would be unable to cause much damage. He wanted to drain them out
psychologically, to get them to surrender from attacking the Athenian Empire (Kagan 52). One of the
most important steps in doing this was to connect Athens to its navy city and their port. They did this
by building walls that connected them, later known as the Long Walls (Kagan 9). Back then, walls
were almost impregnable to attacks, and were one of the best defenses in the ancient world. Therefore,
the addition of the Long Walls made both Athens and the port extremely hard to crack; they were
ready for any Spartan land attack that would come their way. When the war finally started and the
Spartans did come, they found that their attacks were not going to work. Their strategy of totally
crushing the Athenian Empire and fighting a battle of annihilation was countered by the

Purpose Of The Mapping Project
Some time ago, I received a call from an elderly shut in lady explaining that she had no access to
transportation and that there was some problem with her SNAP benefits that month. Consequently, she
was in poor health and had specific dietary needs. Her friend, that normally would help, was not able
to take her to a local pantry. She went on to ask if we would be able to bring just a little food to tie her
over until someone could take her somewhere for food. Imagine the feeling of insecurity that this
woman must have been experiencing. This is just one of many calls the food bank receives. It is just
such a call that made the mapping project GMFB conducted so necessary.
The purpose of the mapping project was to gain a better insight into the counties GMFB services and
their demographics. Additionally, it was necessary to have a better understanding of the agencies we
currently support and the part they play in their communities. Are the areas under served? Are the
areas over served? Is there any duplication of service? In food banking, agencies are nonprofit
organizations that link GMFB and the hungry. An agency will have a distribution model that provides
access to meals, groceries and/or benefits for a targeted population in the community. Over time, we
began to gather information on food insecurity, poverty levels, areas with high numbers of free and
reduced lunch provided, locations of subsidized housing, and finally pantry locations unsupported by
the food

It was in one of the full moon night did the experiment take place. Not only do the soft light coming

lot of paintings related to scientific experiments within the 18th century, and An Experiment on a Bird
in the Air Pump, which was done in 1768, is definitely one of them. At the first glance, it can be seen

which explains why the older girl use her hand to hide her face and refuse to look at it while the young

The new moon is the first phase of the lunar cycle. It occurs when the Moon and Sun are lined up on
the same side of the Earth so that the moon is not visible from Earth. Next, the waxing crescent moon
phase is displayed whereby the Moon s surface is less than half lit up. The word waxing means that
the light side of the Moon is moving towards the full moon phase. A person viewing the Moon from
the Northern Hemisphere will see a waxing moon if any portion of the left side of the Moon is dark
and the right side is illuminated. If the Moon is observed on consecutive nights during the waxing

Moon, the right side, is illuminated. The phrase first quarter is not used to describe the shape of the
Moon but is used to express that the Moon has completed a quarter of its orbit around the earth. At this
point, the Sun and Moon are at a 90 degree angle in relation to the earth. Next in the moon cycle is the
waxing gibbous which is characterized by more than half of the Moon being illuminated and the left
portion of the Moon displaying a smaller shadow area.
The full moon follows the waxing gibbous phase and is the easiest phase to recognize because the
moon is at its fullest illumination in the night

Five Forces Of Coffee
The Five Forces Model (developed by Dr. Michael Porter of Harvard University) is a powerful tool for
evaluating the competitiveness of your business environment and for identifying your business s
potential risks and profitability.
The Five Forces Model Analysis is assumed that to analyze five areas of competition in the
marketplace. It is analyzing the elements:
Competitive Rivalry
Bargaining power of Supplier
Bargaining power of Buyer
Threat of New Entrants
Threat of Substitutes
Competitive Rivalry:
According to statistical metrics in six major cities (only branded products), instant coffee current
market share accounts for 62% in volume and 65% in value compared to 38% in volume and 34% in
value of branded roasted coffee. Particularly in Hanoi market and four major cities (Hai Phong, Da
Nang, Nha Trang, Can Tho), the proportion of instant coffee accounts for the majority (91%)
compared to roasted ground coffee (73%). In the roasting ground coffee market, besides absolute
leading in comparison with rivals ( 80%), this product development strategy is heavily dependent on

NesCafe is the leader with market share accounted for nearly 60% of the market. With the absolute
position of NesCafe, consumers were imposed to quality, taste because there were not many other

the market share is reserved for other brands. However, since Trung Nguyen Joint Stock Company

Tupac s All Eyez On Me
During the past year, I have started to listen to more hip hop music. I went to see the movie about
Tupac s life, All Eyez on Me , with my friends, which intrigued me to look into him more as an artist
and a person. What I found fascinating about Tupac s songs is that how he is taking a stand in social
and cultural issues in his lyrics, in contrast to most rap songs nowadays that revolve around money,
sex and alcohol. Because of his socially conscious lyrics, Tupac has been called one of the most
influential rappers of all time. In class, we looked into different forms of dialects and slangs and
discussed how they form one s identity, which I found very interesting. Tupac was a perfect example
of this. Therefore, I wanted to create a column in the magazine Rolling Stone, where I discuss the
imagery and language Tupac uses to illustrate the problems in the African American communities of
the United States. The target ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sadly, this lyric is still relevant decades after the repeated murders of African American males by
American police officers are constantly discussed in the media. Tupac himself had also been a target
of unfair treatment by officials because of his race, which is why he had a strong opinion on the topic.
The famous chorus of Changes is a rework of Bruce Hornsby s and the Range s ballad The Way It Is ,
with the second line Some things ll never change changed to Things ll never be the same , suggesting
instead that a change is coming, creating an oxymoron with the previous line That s just the way it is .
In addition, the beat of the song is quite uplifting, while the lyrics are describing the sad truth.
Nevertheless, in the free verse, Tupac raps about how the old way wasn t working and how we should

Development Of Life On Earth
There are too many variables to replicate the development of life on earth. The variables need to
replicate the development of life on earth are the relationships between the conditions on early earth
and the origin of organic molecules, the changes in technology that have assisted in the development
of an increasing understanding of the origin of life and evolution of living things, the major stages in
the evolution of living things, and the palaeontological and geological evidence that suggests when
life originated on earth.
The Earth s age is approximately 4.6 billion years old. The Hadean Eon was the formation of the
Earth. The Earth was transformed from a gaseous cloud into a solid body. The heavy molten iron sank
down and became ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ultraviolet light would have easily reached the Earths surface due to having no ozone layer existing.
At this stage this would have allowed organic molecules to form in the lower atmosphere or the Earths
surface. The stages of the Earths development consisted of:
Dense clouds of water formed in the atmosphere, which reflects the sun s heat
Earth cooled sufficiently to allow for the formation of a rocky crust.
Volcanic gas eruptions increased the air pressure, forming clouds which allowed for the water vapour
to condense and fall as rain.
Water would have absorbed a lot of the carbon dioxide present in the atmosphere due to solubility.
The cooling process by the rain continued until the Earth was cool enough to allow for the formation
of rivers and oceans.
Heat was dissipated into space, causing a more solid crust to form
From then on, the process of reducing the amount of carbon dioxide was occurring ie transferring it
into rocks like limestone.
The conditions on early Earth consisted of large amounts of volcanic activity; heat, ash, dust and gases
in the atmosphere, anoxic, massive oceans existed but only small land masses above the water surface,
no ozone layer and violent electrical storms were common. There is evidence shown that the Earth
contained inorganic molecules during this time. As a result

Michel Kripalani and Oceanhouse Media: Journey of a Serial Entrepreneur
Jodi Watson
Describe Michel Kripalani s entrepreneurial journey to date. What are the lessons from this journey
for entrepreneurs?
Michel Kripalani s entrepreneurial journey began after he graduated from UCSD with a degree in
visual arts media. Kripalani s first startup was MOOV Design, a computer graphics firm. He founded
Presto Studios in 1991, was the CEO and created the Journeyman Project series and Myst III: Exile.
He closed Presto studios in 2002, taking a break and traveling, and then worked at Autodesk, a
publicly traded digital media firm, from 2004 to 2009. In 2009 he founded his third start up
Oceanhouse Media.
The lessons ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The brand can be one they build themselves or one that they can partner with, as Kripalani did with
Dr. Seuss and was the recognition they need to stand out in the competitive marketplace of apps.
Entrepreneurs shouldn t overspend on development. Entrepreneurs don t know how successful their
app will be until it s out there so they should plan and spend wisely and be conservative with their
ROI predictions. They should also continue to monitor their apps and watch market trends. From this,
they can apply that knowledge to creating their next apps or updating their existing apps. That applies
to developing the app as well as marketing it. One of the most important lessons for entrepreneurs is to
be passionate about their work and love the apps they create. They should apply their passions to what
they want to achieve as this will drive sales and be a key to their success.
Evaluate the economics of the digital applications market in terms of growth and profitability. How
has Oceanhouse Media performed in this market?
Growth in the Apps Market
As noted in the case, the growth in the apps market is closely tied to the growth in the market for
mobile devices, both smartphones and tablet computers that are connected to cell phone networks.
Revenues from mobile apps have been on the rise and forecasts indicate a continual increase.
Forecasts were made for revenue from mobile

Nuclear Radiation Research Paper
Discuss medical applications of nuclear radiation and their effects on society. Explain briefly how the
applications work. Include some of the scientists involved in their discovery and development.
Simply put radiation is energy or particles flying through space. Radiation comes in three forms
Alpha, Beta and Gamma radiation, all three types have vastly different applications and levels of
strength. The most common type of electromagnetic radiation used in the medical is known as
ionising radiation, that form of radiation is far more powerful than non ionising radiation because it
cannot break molecular bonds or ionise atoms. Nuclear radiation can both be exceptionally useful and
ridiculously dangerous if the proper measures are not put in place. Radiation is used most
predominantly in the medical field where patients receive controlled doses, the expositor to radiation

Nuclear medicine is a specific branch of medicine that uses tiny amounts of radiation to measure the
severity or even treat many different disorders and diseases like heart disease, gastrointestinal
(stomach), endocrine (gland) and neurological disorders. Radiation is also successful in identifying
molecular irregularities in the body allowing for the doctors to treat the illness before it progresses to
an irreparable or fatal stage. Nuclear medical procedures are non invasive and, in much of the cases,
painless. There is a range of types of nuclear medical exams where a radiotracer injected, inhaled as
gas, or swallowed, radiotracers act as a contrast for the machine to show the body as the clear image.
Nuclear radiation offers procedures like radioactive iodine (I 131) therapy where a small amount of I

Hydraulic Fracturing And Natural Gas
Hydraulic fracturing, or fracking is a drilling process that allows access to unconventional oil and
natural gas reserves that would otherwise be inaccessible. Limestone, sandstone and shale far below
the ground contain natural gas. This gas is formed as dead organisms in the rocks are decomposed. We
can capture this gas at the surface when the rocks that contain the gas are drilled. To increase the flow
of released gas, drillers use pressurized water to break the rocks apart, fracturing them. Initially this
was sometimes done through detonating small explosions in the wells to increase the flow of gas to
the surface. Around 1940, oil and gas drilling companies started fracking the rocks through pumping a
high pressure water, sand and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also, water from gas wells often returns to the surface containing low, but measurable radioactive
elements, and huge concentrations of salt. Economic Benefits/Liabilities Some potential benefits of
fracking include job creation, increased income and wealth for those who sign gas leases on privately
owned land, expanded local business opportunities for those who directly and indirectly service the
energy industry. This could be for example construction workers, hotels and restaurants. Another
benefit is rising tax revenue for communities. US oil and gas producers are struggling with
persistently low natural gas prices and a roughly 50% drop in the price of crude oil in the past year.
The huge drop in oil prices has caused many drillers to do drastically cut their budgets, including
laying off workers. Some firms are also struggling with higher costs of storing fracking related waste
due to stricter regulations. Water, Climate Hydraulic fracturing requires 2 10 million gallons of water
per well per fracture, which raises concern over water resources and quality. Some of the concern is
about depletion of groundwater sources, but there are also a concerns about contamination of
subterranean and surface water. (Boudet, H, 2013) Inadequately treated drilling wastewater with
potentially toxic materials; surface spills of chemicals etc is getting released into rivers and streams.

Mise En-Scene In Alfred Hitchcock s Rear Window
Alfred Hitchcock s thriller Rear Window (Hitchcock, 1954) begins with the immediate use of mise en
scène in order to establish a sense of atmosphere, equilibrium and the mundane, soon to be disrupted
as the events of the film unfold and are observed through the eyes of the voyeuristic protagonist, Jeff.
Setting, cinematography and various other expressive mise en scène techniques work together to
influence the overall appearance of the film. Though, by taking a closer look, these techniques reveal
the significance of the narrative and characters. In the opening sequence, Hitchcock s original visual
style provides signposts for the audience to recognize what will be significant in the future: instead of
establishing what is only happening in the moment in time; mise en scène is used to suggest what is to
come. This arrangement of the Classical Hollywood narrative starting with the setting and characters
in a state equilibrium acts as a seemingly all purpose, archetypal opening by establishing location and
introducing character. Simultaneously we can see that this sequence is vastly different from the rest of
the film: it is leading the viewer into a false sense of security the calm before the storm as Jeff soon
happens to piece together information leading to the possibility that one of his neighbors murdered
their wife. This sequence is one of the only moments in the film we see things the protagonist does
not, thus this carefully constructed opening is preparing

White Vs. Board Of Education Essay
There are many cases in history that have a racial element like segregation to it. One of the most
important, influential, and more well known court cases that dealt with segregation was Brown vs
Board of Education of Topeka. It is commonly understood that Brown vs Board of Education dealt
with a little girl suing because she wanted to attend an all white school in her neighborhood. In reality,
the case was far more complex than that. In December, 1952, the U.S. Supreme Court had on its
docket cases from Kansas, Delaware, the District of Colombia, South Carolina, and Virginia, all of
which challenged the constitutionality of racial segregation in public schools (Citation Here). The U.S.
Supreme Court consolidated the five court cases into one and gave it the name that is well known,
Brown vs the Board of Education. This case would lead the way in challenging segregation in United
States school systems and creating and education system that was more equal for minorities. In
Delaware there were two separate cases that had similar issues. The first case was Belton vs Gebhart,
and that dealt with parents being forced to send their children to a run down segregated high school
away from their neighborhood, rather than an all white school that was in their community. The other
case, Bulah vs Gebhart, was brought forward by a parent who was trying to get bus transportation for
the black children in her town. Her main argument was that there a all white bus that passed her house

Invasion Of The Body Snatchers Essay
Don Seigel s 1956 film Invasion of the Body Snatchers shook many viewers with its brutal imagery of
an invasion, a take over, that was almost impossible to differentiate from the normal behavior of
society at that time. Neighbors would be completely normal one day, go to sleep, and wake up where
everything else is the same, but not the feeling that those close to them had come to recognize. Wilma,
a desperately worried niece of a recently Snatched citizen, can feel the difference all too well in her
family members. The film was able to terrorize the hearts of so many watchers due to its ability to hit
so close to the situation many of them were experiencing at that time. The 1950 s were rife with social
and political changes, from changes in rights to changes in the political ring of the world.
Communism, for example, seemed to be invading the minds of friends and neighbors alike all across
the country from the views of American citizens. In fact, it was these bonds of ... Show more content

least their death would result in a huge legal battle that would probably damage that community for
years to come. No one had that same protection in the 1950 s. We are much luckier now, like how Dr.

Preschool Student Observation
On April 4, 2017, I observed two preschool students playing with magnet tiles in Ms. Carrilo s Pre K
class at Pre K 4 SA North Education Center. The two students that I observed are the following: Eda
and Zander. Zander was a four year old little boy and Eda was a four year old little girl. Eda and
Zander were playing with the magnet tiles in the toy area because the block area was being used. The
materials that were available to Eda and Zander were trinkets (like buttons), toys (like mini plastic
figures), and magnet tiles. The activity that Eda and Zander were doing in the toy area was the
following: creating a party out of magnet tiles. First, Eda got out the magnet tiles and began to make a
big room out of the tiles. When I asked Eda about what she was doing, Eda said, I am making a party.
I asked Eda if the room she was making was the party room, and she said yes. After that, I asked Eda
who was coming to the party. Eda said that everyone was coming to the party, except for teachers
because they were sick. Then Zander came over and started to build with Eda. Zander made a hospital
and Eda made a few bathrooms for the party. When I asked Eda which bathrooms were the girl s and
the boy s, she said that the red and purple magnet tiles were the girl s bathrooms and the green magnet
tiles were the boy s. After I asked Eda that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

making them identify and name different shapes. Then the activity made them use their classification

Adeline Yen Mah s Characters In Chinese Cinderella
Adeline Yen Mah had done an extraordinary job at writing Chinese Cinderella. I believe she has done
an even better job at achieving her goal. The author hints multiple reasons for writing this story. Her
dedication page was written for the children who weren t loved by their parents. In Mah s dedication
page, She says that you are not alone and to use her story to encourage yourself. This leads me to infer
that she wrote this because she wants to comfort unwanted children. However, I believe Mah had
more intentions for writing this story. It was painful and difficult for me to write this, (Preface xi).
Mah had never told anyone the truth about her family. Everyone thought Mah had a loving family
until they went to her home for a surprise party. ... Tell them to gun dan (get lost) and never come here
again, (Chapter 14, 115). She took a slap from her stepmother and was humiliated in front of all her
friends and schoolmates. People go to the therapist for these kinds of things, but she stayed strong.
Even after years of rejection, she tried to reunite with her family. She wrote a book called Falling
Leaves only after finding out that she had been cut out of Niang s will. ...But she felt compelled to
[write the story], (Preface xi). For us to truly understand why this upset here, she shows us what her
life was. In an interview, you can see that Mah still gets emotional with her story because all she
wanted was love from her family. She wrote Chinese Cinderella because she

  • 2. Analysis Of The Movie The Martian Throughout the movie, The Martian, the story revolves around the main character, Mark Watney, who has to survive alone on a Mars by utilizing his skills in botany, as well as other subjects. Mark faces multiple problems throughout the movie, that make his survival extremly hard. Other than botany, there were many other sciences used by Watney to survive on Mars. , including physics. An example of this is when making a battery last longer on the rover, he removes the battery in order to make the rover lighter, and he removed weight from the shuttle that was used to escape the planet. Watney uses medical science (when he had to remove the piece of shrapnel and staple his wound. Other problems included the lack of food, having the HAB (the headquarters for the mission), and having to travel a large distance in a rover that was meant to only go a short distance. The first problem he faced was not having enough food to survive until he could be rescued. Luckily, he had a large amount of food for the crew that was left in the HAB. He calculates how long he could make the rations last but comes to the conclusion that he will still not have enough food to last him until the next manned mission to Mars. Mark rationalizes that through his botany skills he might be able to grow food inside the HAB; he settles on potatoes. . He then uses his human waste, mixed with water and Martian soil, to make soil suitable for growing potatoes. The next step of growing potatoes was finding ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Assassination Of Archduke Franz Ferdinand The assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand was one of the most significant events in the domino like sequence that triggered the start of the Great War. With tensions growing tighter between Serbia and Austria Hungary, any malicious action from one country could provoke the other to declare war, and the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand incentivized Austria Hungary to do just that. Austria Hungary declared war on Serbia exactly one month after the heir to the Austro Hungarian throne was assassinated in Bosnia, however it would be far from the truth to say that this matter only pertained to Serbia and Austria Hungary. Growing ethnic nationalism at the turn of the 19th Century stemmed the increasing tensions between Serbia and Austria Hungary that began to especially take shape during the Balkan Wars. Serbs, Bulgarians and Albanians all wanted to establish independent nation states, and their efforts to do so threatened Austria Hungary. Serbia sought out to build a state that would include all ethnic Serbs, which resulted in being openly hostile towards Austria Hungary, a nation containing large amounts of Serbian minorities. Serbia was prepared to carry on a series of struggles in order to win back territories that were occupied by their fellow nationals; namely, Serbia wanted Austria to give up Bosnia, which was inhabited by many Serbs. Austria, however, wanted to suppress these nationalist movements, and in 1908 annexed the territories of Bosnia and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Description of Ambulatory Care and Hospitalization Care Essay As early as the 1990 s, outpatient care only made up for 10 to 15% of a hospital s total profits, compared to inpatient care. Since the start of the twenty first century, this figure has increased to approximately 60%. This shift in healthcare has been occurring in different medical organizations such as university medical centers, local hospitals, for profit chains, and not for profit suppliers. The increase in outpatient services compared to inpatient has been showing no indication of slowing down. The main reason for the development in outpatient care is because of all the medical advancements in techniques and technology that allow for patients to be treated less invasively. Health care organizations are now being compensated in a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The development of walk in clinics at the local CVS Pharmacy or Wal Mart are part of the freestanding facilities that provide people in communities easier access to treatment without going to a hospital ED. Additionally, the evident convenience aspect of bringing full emergency services to communities, freestanding centers may be less likely to resort to hospital admissions as an outlet to drive throughput. The incentive for ASCs is to emphasize volume and higher rates, while hospitals are considered to regulate utilization. Looking closely, the main purpose originates from ASCs lower cost profile compared to hospitals with the additional benefit of the likely to evade inpatient expenditure. Within ambulatory clinics, there are three levels of service that are preformed based on the type of diagnosis and treatment recommendations. Level one ambulatory service is considered an option to inpatient care with both patient and service parts that corresponds with the point of intensity. The role of this level is to offer alleviation from acute symptom reducing mechanisms such as less severe residential constituents such as the family treatment home for children. Level two ambulatory services are set apart by effective treatment; regularly with a rehab or transitional process that is built in to the care plan. This process is complete in a staff supported setting that expands past the care setting into the important sections of the patient s district ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Essay on Women s Role in Society in the 1800s AP American History Women s Role in Society During the early 1800 s women were stuck in the Cult of Domesticity. Women had been issued roles as the moral keepers for societies as well as the nonworking house wives for families. Also, women were considered unequal to their male companions legally and socially. However, women s efforts during the 1800 s were effective in challenging traditional intellectual, social, economical, and political attitudes about a women s place in society. The foundation of colleges for women as well as events at women s rights conventions intellectually challenged society s views on women s traditional roles. As education became more of a public governmental service, the educational ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Women s rights activists influenced the nation to believe that women were men s equals, changing traditional women social roles. During the 1800 s a husband had legal authority over their wife. In a sense, he owned her, and for that reason women had little respect in their culture. However, as women pursued their cause for equal rights, many men began to see women as their equals. This gained them greater respect within their culture. An example of one of the social changes that occurred because of women s rights movements was when Lucy Stone kept her maiden name even after she became married. Fifty years before the women s rights movements began a small event like this would have never been allowed within the community. As women in the 1800 s fought for women s rights, slowly female social roles began to change. With the help of the Industrial Revolution, women made significant strives in changing the traditional economic roles given to females. Before the industrial revolution the only opportunity for a woman to be financially secure was for that woman to marry a financially secure husband. This created women s dependence on men because if the man died they would have no source of income. The Industrial Revolution provided many women with jobs of their own helping women to become self dependant. This self dependence allowed for women to pursue interests not involving men, such as ... • 6. Who Is The Sexist In The Little Mermaid Swimming Against the Current Disney s film The Little Mermaid (1989) is the earliest most significant transition into portraying a strong female protagonist after a history of purposeless princesses who never demonstrated personality attributes other than delicateness. Nevertheless among Disney s critics, Roberta Trites responds in her essay Disney s Sub/Version of Andersen s The Little Mermaid that characters, images, and conflicts of the film rob women of integrity, making the movie even more sexist than the original story by Andersen. Disney s film industry used to be notable for their depictions of weak minded and superficial princesses that taught the young generations, especially girls to be submissive to men and exclusively pretty. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As an example, Roberta Trites illuminates how even though the mermaid has suffered much more at the hands of the sea witch than the prince has, it is the prince who kills the witch (Trites, 137). In her logic, this misattribution of power promotes sexist values that teach young girls that they shouldn t possess such might; to leave that to men. A matter that remains unaddressed is that in this film, robbing Ariel the right to overcome the antagonist is not to implement the sexist value of female helplessness; In this case, it is more to balance or reciprocate the fact that Ariel had previously been the hero. In the film The Little Mermaid, Ariel saved Prince Eric first (Clements 24:43). Contrary to popular sexist norms that men rescue the girl, Prince Eric is the damsel in distress. A sexist film would never portray a male as vulnerable and dependent on a woman unless said male was being ridiculed. Therefore, it is evident how the sexist value of women being submissive to men is not encouraged in the film, for Ariel held the empowerment that comes from being the determinant factor in a man s life. Supplementary, the film highlights women empowerment and disfavors sexism against women when Ariel takes over the carriage where Prince Eric and she are traveling (Clements, 58:24 58:43). What is important is that the Prince does not repress Ariel for doing so. In fact, it is shown that the prince is impressed with Ariel maneuvering the carriage successfully and even sits back and relaxes while Ariel continues to drive. Ariel is admired by the Prince for this display of power and most importantly trusted to go on. If The Little Mermaid was a sexist film Ariel would have been portrayed as too delicate to control the carriage and drive it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. How Subversive Approaches Influence Others Align With An... This week s case study has this author postulating if the use of subversive approaches to influence others align with an individual s moral compass. Within this week s case study, this author is asked to examine a situation where James O Keefe, a conservative activist, meets with the senior fundraiser for National Public Radio (NPR), Ron Schiller, to discuss a potential donation of $5 million from an ethnic organization. Unbeknownst to Schiller, his meeting with O Keefe was secretly recorded and after imaginative alteration, is released, causing a tarnished reflection on not only Schiller, but NPR. NPR could be considered a grass roots approach to community communication. As a non profit, member supported platform, NPR provides stimulation for logical thinking, discussion, and even question. Moreover, according to NPR (n.d) the organization is guided by accountability and transparency in order to maintain credibility. As such, due to the blemish caused by O Keefe s subversive approach to what seemed to be driven by a desire to halt federal money filtering into NPR for broadcasting purposes, both NPR s chief executive and Schiller resigned. Merriam Webster (n.d.) defines subversion as the secret act of ruining or destroying. Subversive tactics have been utilized by individuals, organizations, and governments to sabotage or weaken individual and organizational structures. Is it morally right to do so? Does this form of sabotage justify the means to an end? Who s to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

She realized that she had to help this stranger because she had the ability to do so. This deed was done based on her obvious personal ethical values which proved to be moral. The stakeholders are anyone who was affected by the decisions that were made, in this case Jai and his companion were the extreme stake holders and consequently it trickled down to a shepherd woman and eventually several others. It can occur anywhere in the body and at any age (Ignatavicius Workman, 2013, p. 1144). All fractures follow the same mechanism and require similar care regardless of type or location. (Ignatavicius Workman, 2013, p. 1144) A fracture is classified by the severity of the break being either complete or incomplete fractures: A complete fracture is a break along the width of the bone resulting in the bone being separated into two sections. An incomplete fracture is a fracture that does not result in the separation of bone because the break is only partially through the bone. (Ignatavicius Workman, 2013, p. 1144) A closed (simple) fracture does not cause injury to the skin and, therefore, does not have any noticeable wound. This type of fracture still needs to be managed by stabilization of the bone and realignment if necessary. Open fractures are ones in which a portion of the bone breaks through the skin or a wound penetrates through to a fractured bone (American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, 2011). Open fractures frequently involve more damage to surrounding tendons, ligaments, and muscles than in a closed fractures. The rise of rock n roll and the reception of it, in fact, can tell us a lot about the culture and values of the United States in the 1950s. According to historians James Gilbert, there was a struggle throughout the decade over the uses of popular culture to determine who would speak to what audience, and for what purpose . At the center of that struggle, rock n roll unsettled a nation had been living in an age of anxiety since 1945 (p.15). Altschuler talks about how music and race interlock with one another. Rock had become a highly visible and contested arena for struggles over racial identity and cultural and economic empowerment in the United States (p.35). Other chapters within the book state the battles involving sexuality, generational conflicts, as well as other social issues. The author states ideas that are somewhat problematic. For example, he states that there is a myth that rock n roll went into a lull following the payola hearings (the practice of record promoters paying DJs or radio programmers to play their labels songs) of 1959 and did not come about again until the arrival of the Beatles in 1964. Rock n roll presented us with the emergence of a cultural phenomenon, which the book lays out for us. Altschuler sees rock as a metaphor for integration, as the focal point for anxiety that cultural life in the U.S. had become sexualized , a catalyst ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They based these conclusions on a mass of evidence they had taken on the desirability of improved both public health and morals, and they had been regaled by the first hand accounts of the brutish horrors of slum life in various parts of central London. It was hardly surprising, therefore, that they insisted that the most important improvements . . . are in direct proportion to the degree in which they embrace all the great purposes of amendment in respect of health and morals . . . by the removal of congregations of vice and misery, and the introduction of a better police.(2) (Dyos 86) As a result of overcrowding, the sanitation issue had to be contended with first and foremost. There are no instruments and it is sung solo and in the Gaelic language. The melody is unmetered with a varying rhythm in each verse and likely based on the young lady s own pattern of speech. The tone in The Reel of Rio distinctly changes from low to high after two measures and in The Woman of the House the tone remains mostly the same up to the end. Both tunes are reels , which is the most popular tune type within the Irish dance music tradition (Reel). As with all reels, they have the same structure, consisting largely of quaver (eighth note) movement with an accent on the first and third beats of the bar. (Reel). These accents make it difficult for this writer to count out the beats and therefore, unable to imagine dancing to these tunes. Bibliography Cervantees, Lorna Dee. One of the main fallacies that the author uses in his articles is a hasty generalization. The battle between Sparta s well built army and Athens s exemplary navy was like a battle between a bear and a shark. If the bear goes into the water, the shark wins. However, if the shark enters land, the bear will kill it. The Athenian general and military genius Pericles knew this. Therefore, he devised a strategy that was based on the strength of his navy and the Spartan inability to battle him on sea; he devised a strategy of attrition where they would sit at home, and outlast the enemy (Kagan 52). In his mind, if Athens disregarded the Spartan land attacks, and instead survived off sea trade from their allies, the enemy would be unable to cause much damage. He wanted to drain them out psychologically, to get them to surrender from attacking the Athenian Empire (Kagan 52). One of the most important steps in doing this was to connect Athens to its navy city and their port. They did this by building walls that connected them, later known as the Long Walls (Kagan 9). Back then, walls were almost impregnable to attacks, and were one of the best defenses in the ancient world. Therefore, the addition of the Long Walls made both Athens and the port extremely hard to crack; they were ready for any Spartan land attack that would come their way. When the war finally started and the Spartans did come, they found that their attacks were not going to work. • 39. The Moon and Tides Observation Essay An observation of the Moon was conducted from Friday, November 8, 2013 to Thursday, November 14, 2013. The study of the Moon during this period occurred consistently between the hours of 8 and 9 p.m. EST within the Northern Hemisphere at 37.3346° N, 79.5228° W (Bedford, V.A.). The Moon was noted to be illuminated on the right side and had a dark shadow on the left side indicating a waxing phase. The light region grew over the surface of the Moon with each subsequent night. The first night s phase was waxing crescent with over 25 percent of the Moon lit up. The next night, the light had grown to cover more of the Moon as it continued through its waxing crescent phase. On November 10th, the Moon exhibited traits of being at first quarter or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The new moon is the first phase of the lunar cycle. It occurs when the Moon and Sun are lined up on the same side of the Earth so that the moon is not visible from Earth. Next, the waxing crescent moon phase is displayed whereby the Moon s surface is less than half lit up. The word waxing means that the light side of the Moon is moving towards the full moon phase. A person viewing the Moon from the Northern Hemisphere will see a waxing moon if any portion of the left side of the Moon is dark and the right side is illuminated. If the Moon is observed on consecutive nights during the waxing phase, they will notice that the light section of the Moon is actually growing during this phase. The next phase is the first quarter moon, which is often referred to as a half moon because half of the Moon, the right side, is illuminated. The phrase first quarter is not used to describe the shape of the Moon but is used to express that the Moon has completed a quarter of its orbit around the earth. At this point, the Sun and Moon are at a 90 degree angle in relation to the earth. Next in the moon cycle is the waxing gibbous which is characterized by more than half of the Moon being illuminated and the left portion of the Moon displaying a smaller shadow area. The full moon follows the waxing gibbous phase and is the easiest phase to recognize because the moon is at its fullest illumination in the night ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I went to see the movie about Tupac s life, All Eyez on Me , with my friends, which intrigued me to look into him more as an artist and a person. What I found fascinating about Tupac s songs is that how he is taking a stand in social and cultural issues in his lyrics, in contrast to most rap songs nowadays that revolve around money, sex and alcohol. Because of his socially conscious lyrics, Tupac has been called one of the most influential rappers of all time. In class, we looked into different forms of dialects and slangs and discussed how they form one s identity, which I found very interesting. Tupac was a perfect example of this. At this stage this would have allowed organic molecules to form in the lower atmosphere or the Earths surface. The stages of the Earths development consisted of: Dense clouds of water formed in the atmosphere, which reflects the sun s heat Earth cooled sufficiently to allow for the formation of a rocky crust. Volcanic gas eruptions increased the air pressure, forming clouds which allowed for the water vapour to condense and fall as rain. Water would have absorbed a lot of the carbon dioxide present in the atmosphere due to solubility. The cooling process by the rain continued until the Earth was cool enough to allow for the formation of rivers and oceans. Heat was dissipated into space, causing a more solid crust to form From then on, the process of reducing the amount of carbon dioxide was occurring ie transferring it into rocks like limestone. The conditions on early Earth consisted of large amounts of volcanic activity; heat, ash, dust and gases in the atmosphere, anoxic, massive oceans existed but only small land masses above the water surface, no ozone layer and violent electrical storms were common. The most common type of electromagnetic radiation used in the medical is known as ionising radiation, that form of radiation is far more powerful than non ionising radiation because it cannot break molecular bonds or ionise atoms. • 46. Hydraulic Fracturing And Natural Gas Hydraulic fracturing, or fracking is a drilling process that allows access to unconventional oil and natural gas reserves that would otherwise be inaccessible. Limestone, sandstone and shale far below the ground contain natural gas. This gas is formed as dead organisms in the rocks are decomposed. We can capture this gas at the surface when the rocks that contain the gas are drilled. To increase the flow of released gas, drillers use pressurized water to break the rocks apart, fracturing them. Initially this was sometimes done through detonating small explosions in the wells to increase the flow of gas to the surface. Around 1940, oil and gas drilling companies started fracking the rocks through pumping a high pressure water, sand and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Also, water from gas wells often returns to the surface containing low, but measurable radioactive elements, and huge concentrations of salt. Economic Benefits/Liabilities Some potential benefits of fracking include job creation, increased income and wealth for those who sign gas leases on privately owned land, expanded local business opportunities for those who directly and indirectly service the energy industry. This could be for example construction workers, hotels and restaurants. Another benefit is rising tax revenue for communities. US oil and gas producers are struggling with persistently low natural gas prices and a roughly 50% drop in the price of crude oil in the past year. The huge drop in oil prices has caused many drillers to do drastically cut their budgets, including laying off workers. Some firms are also struggling with higher costs of storing fracking related waste due to stricter regulations. Water, Climate Hydraulic fracturing requires 2 10 million gallons of water per well per fracture, which raises concern over water resources and quality. Mise En-Scene In Alfred Hitchcock s Rear Window Alfred Hitchcock s thriller Rear Window (Hitchcock, 1954) begins with the immediate use of mise en scène in order to establish a sense of atmosphere, equilibrium and the mundane, soon to be disrupted as the events of the film unfold and are observed through the eyes of the voyeuristic protagonist, Jeff. Setting, cinematography and various other expressive mise en scène techniques work together to influence the overall appearance of the film. Though, by taking a closer look, these techniques reveal the significance of the narrative and characters. In the opening sequence, Hitchcock s original visual style provides signposts for the audience to recognize what will be significant in the future: instead of establishing what is only happening in the moment in time; mise en scène is used to suggest what is to come. This arrangement of the Classical Hollywood narrative starting with the setting and characters in a state equilibrium acts as a seemingly all purpose, archetypal opening by establishing location and introducing character. Simultaneously we can see that this sequence is vastly different from the rest of the film: it is leading the viewer into a false sense of security the calm before the storm as Jeff soon happens to piece together information leading to the possibility that one of his neighbors murdered their wife. One of the most important, influential, and more well known court cases that dealt with segregation was Brown vs Board of Education of Topeka. It is commonly understood that Brown vs Board of Education dealt with a little girl suing because she wanted to attend an all white school in her neighborhood. In reality, the case was far more complex than that. In December, 1952, the U.S. Supreme Court had on its docket cases from Kansas, Delaware, the District of Colombia, South Carolina, and Virginia, all of which challenged the constitutionality of racial segregation in public schools (Citation Here). The U.S. Supreme Court consolidated the five court cases into one and gave it the name that is well known, Brown vs the Board of Education. This case would lead the way in challenging segregation in United States school systems and creating and education system that was more equal for minorities. In Delaware there were two separate cases that had similar issues. The first case was Belton vs Gebhart, and that dealt with parents being forced to send their children to a run down segregated high school away from their neighborhood, rather than an all white school that was in their community. The other case, Bulah vs Gebhart, was brought forward by a parent who was trying to get bus transportation for the black children in her town. Invasion Of The Body Snatchers Essay Don Seigel s 1956 film Invasion of the Body Snatchers shook many viewers with its brutal imagery of an invasion, a take over, that was almost impossible to differentiate from the normal behavior of society at that time.
