Hypothesis: If rats are given a source of dim nighttime light, then they ll experience depressive like
symptoms, which manifest due to neuronal changes in the hippocampus associated with circadian
rhythm disruption.
Independent Variable: Source of dim nighttime light
Dependent Variable: Disruption in circadian rhythm
Animals
The test subjects of this experiment are sixty male Wistar rats [1]; they are bred and will be kept under
a normal light dark cycle. They will be kept in cages that are at a constant temperature of 25 °C. Water
and food will be provided to them for the length of this experiment. Before commencing the
experiment, the rats are allowed a week to become accustomed to the facility. After they have become
8 weeks of age, the rats are randomly placed in two groups, one that is exposed to a 12 hour light: 12
hour dark cycle (n=30 per group) and another that is exposed to a 12 hour light:12 hour dim light
cycle (n=30 per group). The rats will be examined under experimental lighting for 3 weeks. The
intensity of the light will be measured using a Traceable Dual Display light meter [1].

Dubuque Case Study Essay
Introduction (Jeremy Jensen) Dubuque, Iowa is a city of approximately 60,000 residents that sits on
the banks of the Mississippi River. Currently Dubuque is a diverse city that strives for complete
sustainability. However, it wasn t always that way recession hit in the late 80 s early 90 s. The town
was a homogenous community and relied on two major industries for employment a famous t shirt
coined the catchphrase Will the last one to leave turn off the lights? Mike Van Milligan was introduced
to the town in 1993 as the city manager and he was expected to lead the community in change. The
city has come a long way in 20 years from almost depression thanks to the concepts of Van Milligan

Van Milligan said he could only do this by establishing what he was about individually, then clearly
communicating the expectations on this vision to every employee within the city (Cohen, 2005, p. 65).
Van Milligan immediately started his change initiative within the city organization. He wanted to
make the government aspect of this vision more effective and efficient. To do this he cut a layer of
bureaucracy out. This layer consisted of seven upper management level jobs. By doing this, he
streamlined the organization and started building his guiding team, which consisted of the people that
needed to be a part of the change and those that wanted to change.
Readiness for Change (Jeremy Jensen) Van Milligan next required each department to justify their
existence based on whether they could do the job effectively and efficiently. All levels of employees
were encouraged to be involved in this process. According to Van Milligan it went over like a lead
balloon . Employees recognized something needed to be done, the economic stress was hitting home,
and they were seeing and feeling the urgency to change (Kotter Cohen, 2002, p. 10). Even though this
urgency existed, the employees were comfortable and resistant to the change. It really came down to

Cultural Competency For A Nursing
Cultural competency is extremely indispensable in nursing practice so that nurses can provide optimal
care for patients from diverse cultural backgrounds. Therefore, insufficient knowledge and skills of
cultural competency has continued to increase racial and ethnic inequalities in healthcare services
especially for minority groups (Dunagan et al. 2013; Long, 2012). As Nurses interact with clients they
provide care, education and advocacy at any point in need. Cultural awareness provides the bases for
nurses to develop of interest to continue and advance in knowledge and skills to deliver cultural
competent care (Calvillo, 2009). To complete the critical analysis of the integrative review on cultural

RESULTS The studies carefully chosen for the review consist of articles that employed multiple
research methods. The combination of different research methods was to improve the strategies to
enhance data collection and extraction (Whittemore Knaffle, 2005). The strategy specifically enhances
the rigour of the process of the critical analysis to address current of knowledge on enhancing the
cultural competency of new graduates (Whittemore Knaffle, 2005). DATA REDUCTION Of the seven
studies included in the review, there were two that employed qualitative methods (Hart Mareno, 2014;
Kokko, 2014). The chosen data collection methods were found to be suitable to the designs of each
study. Chircop et al., (2013) used a quantitative research design which was deemed acceptable for
obtaining measurable data regarding student competence and knowledge acquisition. While the two
mixed method designs (Alpers, Hanssen, 2014; Dunagan et al., 2013) were considered effective for
exploration of self assessment for to enhance cultural competency. Two other studies used quasi
experimental research methods (Mareno and Hart, 2014; Noble et al., 2014). The summary to the
selection process are illustrated in Appendix II. DATA DISPLAY To describe the pattern and
relationships with in the primary data sources, the extracted data are displayed in Appendix III In

Theme Of Identity In Othello
Othello s Identity, Morals, and Acceptance
Othello is perceived as one whom is lost in the novel. Caryl Phillps retells the Shakespeare s Othello.
In Nature of Blood by revisiting Shakespeare s Othello, Phillips focuses on discrimination, identity
and desire of home through interwoven stories. The novel discusses Othello s past and present
situation upon his arrival in Venice. The theme of acceptance is prominent throughout the novel.
Othello s character deteriorates as he struggles with his identity and the notion of home.
Othello is a general in the service of Venice. He is examined in the Shakespeare play as courageous,
noble qualities, trustworthy. It is obvious to feel a degree of sympathy for Othello because he is
considered an other . He is a man that is willing to accept that he is racially different, as he seems to
recognize his status. I tend to sympathize with Othello because he easily influenced, insecure, and a
benevolent heart for Desdemona. Othello relies heavily upon engaging with the Venetian culture and
his identity as the military general. The two stories draw parallel to each other because Othello s
identity is not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The article uses three major concepts to explain Othello s struggle. The author discusses Black
European Success as a reference to the book European tribe. He explains that Othello tragedy began
when he started to forget he was black. The author describes Othello as white mask tucking black skin
away in shame (Calbi 5). Othello is oppressed from the outsider and desires to be accepted into the
Venetian culture. The Ghost of Strangers are traumatic and messy memories that cannot assimilate
entirely. Ghost of strangers always arrive at a different time throughout the novel. The notion of home
resides in the imaginative gap between desire. Home is a place where one s feels welcome. It is
equivalent to the marginalization of a host of

In 2001 there was a movie released called Black Hawk Down. This movie was based on a true story of
the Battle of Mogadishu in 1993. This battle takes place in Somalia. The movie depicts this battle
pretty accurately from who died and the mistake that were made in the mission plan. The operation
was supposed to be easy and go smoothly but like most plans things didn t go as they planned. If there
wasn t any mistakes made during this operation then there wouldn t have been a movie made after it.
The movie got its title because during the operation there were two black hawk helicopter shot down

At the overran crash site there were two Delta force snipers who volunteered to go there and hold off

the mob that came to the crash site. The two snipers who were protecting him died from the mob but
the pilot Michael Durant was captured by the mob and taken prisoner. He was later released after the
battle. There were a few armies in on this battle. On the UN side there was United States, Pakistan,
and Malaysia. On the Somalia side there was al Qaeda. The strength of the UN over powered the
Somalian power because the UN had 8 Black Hawk helicopters and 8 Little Bird helicopters. They
also had 12 vehicles to use. Now Somalia outnumbered the UN forces. Somalia had 4,000 6,000
soldiers and the UN had about 160 soldiers from various elite units. There was much causality in this
battle. The U.S. had 18 killed, 73 wounded, and 1 captured. Malaysia had 1 killed and 7 wounded.
Pakistan had 1 killed and 2 wounded. Now the SNA militia states it only had a range of 315 to 500
causalities while the U.S. states they had around 1,500 to 3,000 causalities in the battle. There was up
to 700 killed, 1,500 wounded, and 21 captured. The leaders of this during these battles for the U.S.
were William F. Garrison and for Somalia it was Mohamed Farrah Aidid. William F. Garrison wanted

Theme Of Satire In Gulliver s Travels
Satire in Gulliver s Travels
First published in 1726, Gulliver s Travels is a momentous piece of literature which defined the
satirical genre and empowered writers of following generations to assume the responsibility of
keeping the government in check and exposing corruption. The novel accomplices this through its
nuanced prose and wild exhibitions of imagery, subliminally mocking and satirizing facets of the
cultures he s introduced to. Exploring themes of corruption, religious division and hypocrisy, and
cultural progressivism, Gulliver s travels implements and employs various allusions and metaphors as
a means of pushing his agenda.
Throughout the novel Gulliver is confronted with the existential and philosophical question of
inherent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This contrast is best exhibited between the inhabitants of Gulliver s third and fourth voyage, as their
societies are exhibit a proclivity for the scientific world and the natural world, respectively. This
contrast evokes thought over what makes an advanced society and alludes to the intellectual and
traditional wars raging in Europe, both in the academic realm with hobbes and in the political realm as
the concept of self governance began to emerge. Gulliver s travels is irrevocably one of the most
influential and notorious novels to ever be written. The critiques of society were felt like a sting
throughout the continent while his humorous tales warmed the spirits of many citizens. The novel s
striking satire helped define a generation and propel literature into a new mindset and motivation. The
clever metaphors and well constructed allusions allowed for a cohesive and intriguing depiction of a
fantasy through a realistic lense. Gulliver s Travels allowed readers to travel to distant utopias and
dystopias and travel back, spreading knowledge and ideologies for the progress of the

The Causes And Effects Of Stereotypes On Women
Stereotypes are seen everywhere people go. They have affected women since the dawn of time. The
ones held for women affect them in every possible way . All the little stereotypes that women have
add up creating big effects on women s day to day life. Their is no way around it especially in the
workforce. The impact of stereotypes starts at a young age and these impacts stick with them fro the
rest of their life. The cause of the impacts determines their career.
The effects of stereotypes that women face in society start very early in their childhood. The media
plays a big role in this. Miribel Tran the author of an article called The Effect of Social Media in
Young Girls talks about how every time a girl opens a magazine, turn on the television or goes on any
form of social media there is always a model on there that has been photoshopped to look smaller than
she already does. There is always a new product out there to make them look better or more attractive
. This makes girls feel like they have to look this way and if they do not they will not be noticed or
looked at in a positive way. This causes most little girls to go into depression. Depression leads the
little girls getting obese. The obesity makes them feel more worse about them because they think they
are even further away from looking like the women they see on social media. This just makes it even
more bad because this leads to grades falling in school (Tran ). The falling of their grades affects them
in the future because if their grades fall they feel dumb. This makes them think that they will not get
into a good college because they feel they are not smart enough for it. This stops girls from pursuing
their dreams and affect the type of job they get in the future.
The stereotype that men hold the character trait of brilliance and women do not is another big one that
affects little girls. It affects most girls at the age of six. In theguardian Nicola Davis talks about a
research done by three US Universities about how this stereotype affects girls. They did a research on
400 kids between the ages of five and seven half of them were girls the other half were boys. Out of
the 400 kids 96 girls and boys of all three ages were shown

When I Was One And None
In When I was One and Twenty , Housman uses diction, figurative language, and repetition to display
love and to convey the meaning that falling in love at a young age is foolish. In When I was One and
Twenty Housman uses diction to help get his point across. Diction can be defined as the word choice
and style that the poet uses.In his poem Housman chose to use formal language. As an example
Housman writes The heart out of the bosom was never given in vain; Tis said with sighs a plenty and

than to have to suffer from losing someone you love. The word choice of Housman helps set the tone

The Flaws of Social Networking
The media can be a world of great convenience, but it can also become a world of hurt feelings. Sure,
you could be alerted of an emergency within three minutes, but you could also find hurtful messages

networking site such as Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, etc. Social media is supposed to help people feel
better socially, so how can it make them feel worse? The problem of cyber bullying can only grow
worse when the targeted victim is obsessing over every little insult that is directed at them through
social media. Even though the media can be convenient and helpful, it can cause cyber bullying,
which can lead to depression but can be avoided by periodically disconnecting from social media. One
of the problems that is caused by social media is cyber bullying. Cyber bullying is bullying people by
misusing social media and usually leads to bullying in real life. This problem relates to me because I
have seen intense fights online and series of mild cyber bullying on Ask.fm and Facebook, creating an
uncomfortable atmosphere for anyone who can view those fights on their news feed. Social media
creates a natural habitat for cyber bullying to occur and makes it harder for the targeted victim to run
off due to new online technology. Furthermore, according to the article Cyber Bullying, Social Media,

The Alternatives to Coronary Bypass Surgery
What are the alternatives to Coronary By Pass Surgery
Introduction
In 2006, more than 690,000 open heart surgeries were performed in the United States. These included
surgeries to correct and repair defective valves as well as coronary artery bypass surgery. As recently
as 70 years ago, these surgeries would have been impossible. The heart lung machine had yet to be
invented, allowing surgeons to temporarily stop and start the heart. Prior to its invention, the longest a
heart could be stopped was 30 to 40 minutes not enough time to complete extensive surgery (Smith,
2009). Since then, a number of minimally invasive surgical procedures have been introduced that
permit surgeons to perform a variety of surgeries, making smaller incisions that leave smaller scars,
reduce the chance of infection, are less painful to the patient and necessitate shorter hospital stays.
These include minimally invasive direct coronary artery bypass, off pump coronary artery bypass,
videoscopic surgery and robotic assisted heart surgery. In minimally invasive heart surgery, cardiac
surgeons perform heart surgery by way of small incisions in the right side of the chest, as a substitute
to open heart surgery. Surgeons operate between the ribs and don t split the breastbone, which
consequences in less pain and a faster recovery for most people. In minimally invasive surgery, the
heart surgeon has a better view of some parts of the heart than in open heart surgery. As in open

Sex Marriage And Same Sex Parental Adoption
Intro to LGBT Studies

The topics of same sex marriage and same sex parental adoption have been controversial and ongoing
topics in recent years, which is a drastic change in mainstream society. People of the lesbian, gay,
bisexual, and transgender (LBGT) community have had a difficult time in gaining visibility and equal
civil liberties, one of which is marriage equality. Same sex couples have only recently been recognized
under the law as legal candidates for marriage rights, and adoption is now an additional option;
however, although the rights have been granted, there is still much more work to be done concerning

The word lesbian first made an appearance in the works of Sappho, a Greek poet whose origins date
back to seventh century BCE.
A notable exception [to nearly all Greek literary production being written by men] was the poet
Sappho, who lived in the seventh century BCE on the island of Lesbos (thus the word lesbian). / Many
young, wealthy Greek women were sent to Lesbos to study the arts with Sappho. Much of Sappho s
surviving poetry is love lyrics to these young women (Meem, Gibson, Alexander 2018).
The birth of lesbianism being a derivative of Sappho s Lesbos makes Sappho the rightful creator. In a
more modern context, the traditional societal views prohibited lesbian identifying women to be open,
thus forcing them to conceal their true affections.
Before the rise of the lesbian feminist movement in the early 1970 s, twentieth century women writers
were generally intimidated into silence about the lesbian experiences in their lives. In their literature,
male personae took the voice of their most auto biographical characters, and they were thus permitted
to love other women (Faderman 1979).
Faderman continues to explain how Sappho s island of Lesbos became a type of code in the vernacular
in the time of Lady Mary Montagu; her love letters to a woman named Anne Wortley included
illusions to the fictitious island and what it would be like to fancy ourselves in Lesbos

How Did The Economy Affect The Roman Legal System
The top ranks people were eligible to control and manipulate the legal system by using the wealth and
status whereas the lower ranked people s position was dependent on the production from the Land.
Consequently, the inequality in the society affected the Roman economy. After the old patrician, the
nobility, founded by combining the patrician s families and the plebeians, became the ruling class in
the republicanism. They also entered in the Senate. Additionally, after the senators were banned to do
the overseas business and participate in the state contracts, the new equestrian class was originated.
They were granted the status of an order of society similar to senator s qualification that possesses
400,000 sesterces by the Gaius Gracchus. In addition, they had control over the jury courts and they
had the right to collect provisional taxes (The Romans, n. d.). Moreover, the goods such as wheat,

Pros And Cons Of Exercise Eminent Domain
Although eminent domain is sometimes necessary, there should be limits placed on it to ensure that
individual property rights are never trampled on. This essay will explain at what times government
officials should have the right to exercise eminent domain, the extent of which the current occupant
should be satisfactorily compensated, and an engineer s duty to the public to only accept projects
where the previous property owners are content in the arrangements of their dismissal.
The government should exercise eminent domain cautiously to ensure that individual property rights
are seldom taken away. In 2005, the ruling of Kelo v. City of New London allowed state and local
governments to take private property and transfer it to other private owners to promote economic
development (Somin 1). The promotion of economic development, however, is not sound reasoning to
transfer private property from one private owner to the next. The only instance when this may be
acceptable is when the property in mention is no longer in use. Some examples include ... Show more

Environmental Factors:
Political factors
An analysis of the hotel industry has revealed that there are environmental, labor, and food safety
regulations as well as regulations for merging, which must be looked at before entering into the
industry.
Hotels could be liable for clean up of contamination and other corrective action under various laws,
ordinances and regulations relating to environmental matters. Such laws referring to keeping the
environment in good shape can be quite costly to hotels in the industry. Another political factor that
can impose a concern for a member in the hotel industry is the laws regarding labor. For instance,
there are laws that govern minimum wage.
Social Cultural Factors
Social cultural factors are a big issue to look into for hotel industry because it deals with a lot of
consumers who have different demographic, ethnic, cultural backgrounds. By satisfying each
consumers or generalizing the way to hospitalize, hotel industry can have chance to expand more.

Donald Trump Visual Analysis
Like, baby, baby, baby, oh I thought a Mexican wall would be fine, fine. As presidential elections
rapidly approaching, media s coverage of the political candidates has multiplied in the television
news, radio, and magazines. Comically, Media s craze over Donald Trump is portrayed in many
illustrations and cartoons to visually see the political disturbances between the media and the
republican party. Daryl Cagle, a political cartoonist, argues in his visual address, Trump The Media

the urgent needs. Daryl Cagle published this political cartoon on Cagle Post, a website that covers

The fuming elephant in a black suit behind the media is a political representation of the republican
party and their growing frustration for unfair treatment as far as garnering media attention. The
placement of Donald Trump directly oppose to the republican party reveals that Trump is not an
acceptable Republican candidate as symbolized by him being on the opposite side of the elephant.
Furthermore, in the cartoon, the color choice also convey a symbolic message to the viewers. For
instance, the color light violet represents inferiority and insignificance (Colour Affect). the elephant is
illustrated light violet as almost as he is bruised to show how he is unable to captivate the media s
attention. The color yellow like the taxicab dominates the picture to grab the attention of the viewers
and to reveal the center of the issue, which in this case is the media. Symbols are used to questions the
media s ethical stand and Donald Trump s political approach. Why is the media focused too much on
Trump s sensational tenets instead of questioning his economic plans and policies? The elephant s
displeasure and the media s excessive coverages unrelated to politics symbolize the political tension
and the media s ethical downfall. Rather than inquiring Trump about his future plans, the mass media
is more interested in Donald Trump disrespectful and misogynistic remarks. The media s improper
actions represent their loss of moral integrity and their crave for more controversial statements. In
Hindu culture, the sun symbolizes knowledge, truth, influence, and stability (Hinduwebsite). With this
in mind, the yellow curved text bubble around the mass media resembles the sun, which implies that

The Lost Boy By Steven Spielberg
There is no flowing current throughout Spielberg s filmography quite like the Lost Boy; the ultimate
lost boy being Steven Spielberg himself. As a result of moving often in his formidable years, he was
always the new kid. His father, who he described as a workaholic, was often absent. The absence only
grew after his parents divorced. Considered a nerd by many of his classmates, even called Spielbug
behind his back, he found solace in the world of film. In 1958, to satisfy the quest for a merit badge in
Boy Scouts, he made a nine minute video entitled the Last Gunfight. The rest, as they say, is history.
Beyond divorce and a less than cool persona, he also struggled with anti Semitism in the largely
WASP neighborhoods he grew up in. All ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During the journey that ensues to help E.T. accomplish his goal, Elliott harnesses the help of his
brother and his brother s friends who shunned him before.
This is not dissimilar to Spielberg s experiences in the seventh grade. In Joseph McBride s biography
a former schoolmate of Spielberg s, Steve Suggs, explains what it was like to be involved in the young
filmmakers amateur production Fighter Squad. I remember telling my mom about it afterward. Here
was this kid who was sort of a nerd and wasn t one of the cool guys; he got out there and suddenly he
was in charge. He became a totally different person, so much so that I as a seventh grader was
impressed. He had all the football players out there, all the neat guys, and he was telling them what to
do. An hour ago at home or on the campus he was the guy you kicked dirt in his eyes. It was
miraculous. It just blew me away. The parallels between Elliott and young Steven Spielberg are
absolutely intentional. E.T. began with me trying to write a story about my parents divorce he d later
explain in an interview. It was the alien and the alienated and it spoke to him.
Though it was his most personal use of a lost boy, it would hardly be his last. With Empire of the Sun
he described the movie as the death of childhood. The story is probably quintessentially more about
the death of childhood than anything I ve made before or since. Based on a true story, Jim is separated

King George Sound A Harbour
This essay will look at the area currently known as King George Sound a harbour in Albany, Western
Australia, and how it came to be known as the friendly frontier by many historians after reports of
harmonious behaviour between British explorers, early settlers and the local Aboriginal community.
George Vancouver sailed and moored his ship in a harbour which he named King George the Thirds
Sound after discovering how sound it was for ships while also honouring the king of his time King
George the Third, though in recent times the name has been shortened to King George Sound. There

It is important to acknowledge that there are many similarities between the encounters of the British
and the Aboriginals here as there are in regions further north, but it is the differences that resulted in
the uncommon friendship that developed in King George Sound. A possible factor for is a the theory
of self fulfilling prophecy developed by Rosenthal and Jacobson in 1968, so when Flinders reported
the friendly and peaceful behaviour displayed by the native Aboriginals, later explorers read the
journal in order to gain a level of knowledge and they were informed to expect welcoming behaviour.
So when the explorers arrived they were friendly toward the local Aboriginals due to the expectations
that were strongly influenced from the knowledge in the journals they read, so it followed that the
Aboriginals responded in kind displaying a friendly nature. So for a number of years this unusually
harmonious relationship was maintained, leading to King George Sound being given the label the
friendly frontier by historian Neville Green.

person who gets bullied doesn t tell anyone because they are too scared about what the bully would do

Why We Should Legalize Medicinal Marijuana
Many people have differing views when discussing the legality of medicinal marijuana. Some say the
drug should not be turned over to the public via prescription because it is too harmful. These people,
however, have not considered all the advantageous potential that legalization will aid in the state of
Tennessee. The great state of Tennessee should legalize medicinal marijuana because it is a great
painkiller, it is not addictive like other prescription Pharmaceuticals, and because government
intervention would aid in marijuana s safe distribution to the public. It is hard to imagine the day to

from the victim and their families. These poor individuals suffer throughout the day, and unfortunately
are in so much discomfort that attempting to live an ordinary life is virtually impossible. Providing
people in these conditions with something that will help is almost a no brainer to people looking from

The women figure lying on the ground looks as if she is dead. She lies there gazing up into nowhere
with a solid glare. Instead of the angel figure giving life to the figure lying down; it seems as if the
angel figure is taking the life of a baby from her, as she is now dead and the angels are taking care of
the baby. The angel figure from the horse reaches her arms out to grasp the baby. All of the figures
have the same hair color, blonde with slight curls. Along with the curls we notice that the front angel
figure s hair is being blown straight up; this will later be explained.
There are four figures and two horses in this painting. Each of the horses are centered and facing
horizontally with very few vertical lines. The majority of the painting is smooth flowing without
jagged, sharp or straight lines. In Pity there is darkness surrounding the characters, forcing the figures
to stand out with great measure in the light. The colors in the background do not convey meaning to
the picture. The background is dark and solemn, resembling blank space. The figures in Pity seem to
carry the meaning, as opposed to the background. Because there is darkness surrounding the figures,
there does not seem to be a source of the light, yet light does outline each figure. It seems that Blake
did this to focus on the figures and not the background. In this painting the horses are painted grey.
Grey is more of a monotone color resembling peace. The figure riding on the

Oscar Handlin Advantages
(YES) Oscar Handlin believed only the scientific method could provide the absolute truth about
history. He felt truth will emerge if perused with science (Handlin 5). After reading his theory, there
are some benefits to his opinion. The first is science keeps history chronological. Many historians
might miscalculate by assuming a time period give or take a thousand years. With a scientific method,
time is accurately documented and placed in order. This keeps records accurate and can leave out
personal opinions. Separating fact from opinion can be beneficial. It helps to eliminate biases or

I tend to agree more with Handlin. This is because I believe we can t recreate history. While I know
we do our best to reenact it, history is meant to be in the past. While, it is important to understand the
emotions, hardships, and circumstances of the past; trying to recreate it is impossible. I think with
more factual evidence we can get a more accurate depiction of our history. I do understand this
method is extremely hard to maintain. This is why I believe there should be a mixture of fact and
myth. Although Handlin believes truth and fiction is a theory (8), I believe this is the best way to
capture the emotions, hardships, and scope of past events. By adding McNeil s ideals with Handlin s
there is diversity and more opportunity for discovery. McNeil states we, humans, are social creatures
(15). Therefore, history should be based on social sciences. Clearly, there are pro s and con s to each
theory. While I do not like that Handlin s theory is harder to log, I believe its accuracy makes up for
the hindrance. As for McNeill s theory, I do not like its opportunity for biases, however, it s diversity
compensates for its obstruction. There will never be a perfect theory. As McNeil states, there is an
abundance of historians and an innumerable amount of ideals to choose from. With endless ideals,
truth turn into myths before it has a chance to be recorded (16). My point is there will never be a right

Reflection Paper On Moral Disengagement
Introduction
We live in a society in which unethical actions are always justified as moral because the majority are
involved in the deeds. We always face an ethical dilemma in different situations, and it becomes
difficult to make a rational decision. This reflection paper aims at exploring the issue of moral
disengagement. Reasons for moral disengagement will be discussed.
What?
From the reading, I understand that people think and act differently when faced with ethical issues.
For one to make a rational decision, an extensive process of judgment is required (Bandura, Caprara,
Zsolnai, 2000). For an individual to be responsible, he or she should put into consideration the
magnitude of the consequences of the actions, social ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Justification of a wrong action would be a moral disengagement. Unethical actions always cause
severe consequences to society. Currently, there are cases of cheating and secret use of unwanted
written materials during exam times. They portray unpreparedness and laziness on the part of a
student. It is unethical since it does not show faithfulness and integrity in studies. Teaching from this
material helps me to be dependable and not to be morally disengaged because of diffusion of
responsibility. Unethical conduct can be attributed to the behavior of a particular group. The teaching
is important to me because I have learned on how to be responsible for my actions and to act ethically
even at a student level. The practice of morals at a young age will help me to remain ethical even at
old age.
Lastly, there are emerging issues observed in the media which involve people displaying their
nakedness to the public. Such deeds demonstrate lack of self respect, and there is no particular
individual to blame since it was one provoked by only one victim and other people followed. Reading
from the material provided concerns me that I should practice personal values and ethics and
emphasize on self respect and individual principles. It is important to me that I have learned to respect

The Differences Of Rikk-Tikki-Tavi By Rudyard Kipling
There are many different reasons to why people undertake a mission but it makes them do bizarre
things to achieve them. For instance, Rikki Tikki had to kill two cobras by himself. Farah had to climb
a mountain to apply to go to America. Katniss had to assassinate other people from other districts to
survive and return back home to her family. Each of the characters had different reasons to achieve
their goals and dreams. Rikki Tikki wanted to protect his family from harm while Katniss and Farah
wanted to survive for their family and themselves; nevertheless, all three characters shared the same
capability.

Later, Katniss later yelled, I volunteer! I gasp. I volunteer as tribute, (Collins 23). Katniss was
expressing that she cared about her sister and would even sacrifice herself to keep her out of harm s
way. After the reaping, Katniss, Prim, and their mother said their goodbyes and Prim said, I don t care
if we re rich. I just want you to come home. You will try, won t you? Really, really try, (Collins 37) It
reveals that Katniss made a vow to return back home to Prim alive no matter what happened to her
until Katniss was reunited with her family. Katniss believed that the promise she had made to Prim
and the reason why she had volunteered in the first place to keep her from being killed by people from
other districts.
Similar to Katniss Everdeen, Farah wanted to survive from her country that was in a war and move to
America with her mother to live a better life. Farah had to take steps to reach where she wanted to
achieve. Farah talked about, It was hard for me to keep my footing, and my mother was clutching my
arm now, just hanging on, just trying to stay close to me, because the worst thing would have been if
we had gotten separated. Finally, I saw that it was no use. We were only risking injury, (Ahmedi 12).

A Choko Hazzard Essay For Kids
A Choking Hazzard Giving your four week old brother a jelly bean is not acceptable. My brothers
favorite color is red because of a small indecent with a jelly bean. Well it was a huge issue that could
have potentially been life changing, so not so small. Children, especially babies, shouldn t eat jelly
beans for choking hazard reasons. And I learned that at five years old the hard way. My mom was on
an important phone call and my brother began to wail. Screaming so loud you would have thought he
was injured. Being the huge help I tried to be, I went to rock the basinet. He still was not content,
wanting up. My mom came to get him allowing me to sit on the couch and hold him. I ask my mom if

her mind fogged with worry common sense took the back burner and she decided to walk with a
choking baby 2 blocks to my Papaw s, her dads, small engine repair shop. She tossed him on the bed
to get dressed and a small, now clear, jellybean came out. RyeLee began to come back from blue

the horrific in counter he had to go through. Really he was just hungry and after a bottle he calmed.
My mom took him to the doctor and they cleared him from any trauma in his windpipe. The event

Strategic Adoption Implementation Of Cloud
Strategic Adoption implementation of Cloud in Indian Railways, India: A case study.
Introduction:
Indian Railways (IR), the largest rail network in Asia and the world s second largest under one
management, spanning over 6000 stations, carries 17 million passengers every day. Only a million
passengers travel with reserved seat tickets, and the remaining 16 million passengers travel each day
without a confirmed seat. While reserved ticketing technology is enabled, unreserved ticketing was
done primitively using printed cards(Sybase, 2014) .

With the increase in population the number of passengers willing to travel daily are increasing
abruptly and now the situations are getting that worse. People don t bother about they either have
ticket or not, they knowingly not only entered the train without ticket or unconfirmed, waiting ticket,
but also travel in reservation compartment. Also the bribery and black marketing of tickets are the
very important factor that come into role nowadays and also the numbers of daily up downers either
for job or study has been increased a lot from villages to the nearby major cities. Thus all these
situations leads to an overloaded train, full of extra passengers and causes lots of harm to the railway,
passengers and Indian economy too (Bhatia, Lala, Chaurasia, 2012). I would like to propose some
updates in Indian railway technology and adaptation of these measures will surely help them to
achieve their goals.

The Association Between Quebeckers And How Much The...
This paper will explore the association between Quebeckers and how much the average Quebecker
really likes Canada on a scale from really dislike (0) to really like (100). This association is relevant
because the history of division between Quebec and the rest of Canada has resulted in many
referendums and resentment that thrives today as much as it did in the past. The results may not be
shocking, but the empirical data analysis shows that the average Quebecker does not really like
Canada when the threshold for really like is set at 80 or more out of 100. The rest of this paper will
thoroughly look at the steps that it took to reach this conclusion including a descriptive summary of
the methodological considerations, a detailed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The former variables is ranked from 0 100 where 0 is really dislike and 100 is really like, while the
latter is simply a nominal variable used for filtering cases. This means that the province variable was
used to narrow the data into Quebec only results to allow the comparison between the two. They were
specifically chosen because they best fit the direction of the research where I wanted to explore the
relationship between overall feelings towards Canada in a particular province: Quebec. Neither
variable was recoded because it showed to be unnecessary, in the case of provinces, and illogical for
the PES11_11, a scale variable (highest level of measurement). Since this is a scale variable, I was
able to calculate all the measures of central tendency (measures that tell us the most typical values)
and dispersion (how typical these typical central values are). These statistics are relevant to calculate
because they allow for more meaningful calculations that allow us to draw more specific and accurate
conclusions about claims such as the standard error, confidence intervals, z scores and statistical
significance.
The bar chart in Figure 1 shows the frequency that each Quebecker chose their feelings about Canada.
It shows that a majority of respondents falls at 50 or above with the most frequent value is 100. Table

My Memories Of My Memory Essay
Going through my memory bank to remember something I learned, which seems so long ago, has
made me laugh because roller skating pops right into my head. Out of all things to remember that was
my worst and most exciting learning experience. I could not even tell you how old I was. I would
guess between five and eight years old. I remember getting a big brown box and in that box was a pair
of roller skates. I remember being so happy because I going to roller skate with all the other kids in the
apartment complex, so I thought.
Playing with the other kids was not hard to do, but skating was difficult thing to learn. Once I put
those skates on, I could not stand upright. I would fall forward on my knees or backwards on my
backside. I remember my arms flying all over the place. A couple of kids grabbed my hands to help
me, so I would not fall, but I still fell down. After some time, I learned to master standing completely
still and only being able to move my head from left to right. I managed to scoot and hold on to the
walls to get around, but when I let go to move on my own, I just landed on the ground. Each time I
tried to use my foot to push, I would just tip over. I must have looked like a tree falling over each time.
I was unable to keep up with my friends, which meant I had many tantrums. I stood there hurt because
I had fallen so many times that I had cut up my knees and hands and at that moment, I decided I was
not skating anymore. Being physically hurt

students with cognitive disabilities in the general education classroom. One of the major issues
addressed is the need and reasoning to why students with cognitive disabilities should be taught in the

that allows for adequate adaptions and modifications for students with cognitive and intellectual
disabilities with the intentions to increase educational expectations and access to the general
curriculum. The author believes that all students regardless of severity of disability will gain some

The Criminal Justice System Is Made Up Of Many Complex...
The criminal justice system is made up of many complex components that all work together in order
to maintain law and order in society. Of the different parts in the judicial system, criminal courts play
a vital role in the execution of justice not only for the victim, but the community as well. Accordingly,
criminal courts in the United States have been used to maintain social control of citizens and create
social change within the population (Hartley Champion, 2009). Because every state and the federal
government have differing methods on how to prosecute criminals, the process seemingly becomes
difficult to comprehend and follow. Some states utilize a standardized sentencing structure where as
others afford the judge more leeway in deciding sentence terms. Criminal court is open to the general
public for viewing; therefore, attending a session is presumably one of the more hands on methods of
researching criminal justice in order to evaluate how the system works at the community level. The
intent of this paper is to reflect on the criminal court proceedings witnessed at a local criminal court
session, explain and understand the roles of all in the courtroom setting, and analyze cases in regards
to the administration of justice. Cumberland County, North Carolina hears criminal cases Monday
through Friday, with morning and afternoon sessions. On September 29th, the General Court of

Essay about Making the St. Louis Connection
Adolf Hitler spent much of his life wanting to be a painter and when he was eighteen years old he fled
with two other young men to Vienna. He and the two other men wanted to attend the Academy of Fine
Arts in Vienna. The two other men were accepted but Adolf Hitler was not. He blamed his non
acceptance on the fact that the art academy had been run by the Jewish and were discriminating
against him. After years of failing in the art industry, Hitler s political ambitions rose to the surface
and he brought the Nazi Party to power in Germany. The Rape of Europa investigates Hitler and other
leading advisors, and how they looted numerous of the great museums and private art collections of
Europe during the duration of World War II in order to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the museums are brought the paintings Jewish people will try to fight for the painting because it
was part of the heritage. Some museums cooperate and others do not and the battle between who the
painting belongs to becomes an enormous court battle. The central theme of The Rape of Europa
describes the lengths and expenses that a community should go to preserve their art. I believe that
communities should go extreme lengths and expenses to preserve their art because art is part of our
cultural and if past generations did not preserve their art then future generations would not be able to
learn about their cultural, background and heritage. Also, in earlier times art was a way of
communication. For instance, cave men and women would draw cave drawings and if scientist did not
preserve these drawings then we would not know what life was like back then. The arts are a powerful
vehicle for communication, a way to express visions that are beyond the capacity of words and a
medium for cultural enlightenment and insight. Art also allows viewers to connect with the art and the
artist in a deeper way than life can sometimes express. Communities should go extreme lengths and
expenses to preserve their art because it provided a deeper insight to life. One of the most famous
pieces of artwork that was purged during World War II by the German Nazis was Klimt s Portrait of
Adele Bloch Bauer. According to Elana Shapira, it was the summer of 1903 that

Stonehenge Research Papers
Mysterious Stonehenge The chosen research topic is Stonehenge. This topic was chosen, because
Stonehenge is very mysterious to mankind. It is also a very interesting topic, and it makes one want to
learn more about it. Stonehenge is considered strange and mysterious, because no one knows what is
the reasoning behind it and why it was built. Inquiring minds want to know how it became so famous.
How did stonehenge get its name? What is Stonehenge? What theories have been made about
Stonehenge? There are a lot of questions that one would like to be answered about it. Stonehenge is a
prehistoric monument northwest of Salisbury located in Wiltshire, England. It is a huge formation of
stones arranged in a circle, surrounded by an earthen embarkment which is also in a circular
formation.

weigh an average of twenty five tons. The bluestones weigh between two to five tons. These stones
were transported from two sites Marlborough Downs and the Preseli Hills area in West Wales. Yet, no
one knows how they got there, or who brought them there and built Stonehenge. Mankind as a whole,
is still uncertain as to what Stonehenge really is. There are many unanswered questions on the
mysterious Stonehenge. Millions of people visit Stonehenge every year to see the wonderful site. I
think Stonehenge is a beautiful site full of mysteries. It would be a great place to visit someday. My
theory is that Stonehenge could have had something to do with multiple things. It could have been
used for multiple purposes. For example, it could have been used as a burial site, memorial,
astronomical clock, and place of worship all in one. Since, there is a little of evidence behind most of
the theories, Stonehenge could have been used for plenty of

Trouble With Chechnya Essay
On September 1, 2004, the world was shocked and horrified by the terrorist attack of Chechen rebels
on a Middle school in the Russian town of Beslan. Nearly 1,200 children, teachers, and parents were
taken hostage on the first day of school, and held captive for 53 hours. In the aftermath of the
explosions and gunfire, over 360 people were killed, and hundreds more were left injured (Kaplan,
2004). The siege of the school was the latest of a dozen bloody attacks on targets such as airliners,
trains, government buildings, hospitals, and a movie theatre that have claimed nearly 1,000 lives in
Russia over the past two years, and yet another chilling reminder of the festering tensions between
Russia and Chechnya (Kaplan, 2004). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

European Colonization Of Native Americans, America, North...
Introduction
During colonization of the Americas from the 1500 s through the 1700 s, major European kingdoms
with strong ships got to permanently settle this
New World with their own people and the slaves that they bought from their West African trade
partners.
The Europeans used a lot of the Americas natural resources as raw materials to make expensive goods
with. The Native Americans, who were the descendants of Asians that crossed the old land bridges,
however were getting displaced from their tribal lands as more europeans and their plantations with
African slaves would either peacefully or violently remove the Native Americans from prime
agricultural and coastal areas.
Let us briefly explore how the European colonization of the Americas brought the continents and
cultures. of Europe, North and South America, and Africa closer in contact with each other.

What is the New Netherland? The New Netherland is the area what we now call parts of the US states
of New York (specifically the current state capital of Albany and New York City, which was called
New Amsterdam by the Dutch) and New Jersey (town of Kingston). It was named this way by the
Dutch fur traders who settled along the Hudson River and bought part of Manhattan Island from a
Native American tribe. It was a Dutch settlement between 1609 to 1664.
Interestingly enough, the New Netherland was only found by accident when the privately owned

these points was the final point: a general association of nations with the guarantees of political and
territorial independence and security. As the Peace Conference progressed, more nations ratified the
Treaty of Versailles and joined the League of Nations, the embodiment of President Wilson s
fourteenth point. However, Senate the United States, from President Wilson s own country, did not

In Nature of Blood by revisiting Shakespeare s Othello, Phillips focuses on discrimination, identity and desire of home through interwoven stories. The novel discusses Othello s past and present situation upon his arrival in Venice. The theme of acceptance is prominent throughout the novel. Othello s character deteriorates as he struggles with his identity and the notion of home. Othello is a general in the service of Venice. He is examined in the Shakespeare play as courageous, noble qualities, trustworthy. It is obvious to feel a degree of sympathy for Othello because he is considered an other . He is a man that is willing to accept that he is racially different, as he seems to recognize his status. I tend to sympathize with Othello because he easily influenced, insecure, and a benevolent heart for Desdemona. There were a few armies in on this battle. On the UN side there was United States, Pakistan, and Malaysia. On the Somalia side there was al Qaeda. The strength of the UN over powered the Somalian power because the UN had 8 Black Hawk helicopters and 8 Little Bird helicopters. They also had 12 vehicles to use. Theme Of Satire In Gulliver s Travels Satire in Gulliver s Travels First published in 1726, Gulliver s Travels is a momentous piece of literature which defined the satirical genre and empowered writers of following generations to assume the responsibility of keeping the government in check and exposing corruption. The novel accomplices this through its nuanced prose and wild exhibitions of imagery, subliminally mocking and satirizing facets of the cultures he s introduced to. The critiques of society were felt like a sting throughout the continent while his humorous tales warmed the spirits of many citizens. The novel s striking satire helped define a generation and propel literature into a new mindset and motivation. • 12. The Causes And Effects Of Stereotypes On Women Stereotypes are seen everywhere people go. They have affected women since the dawn of time. The ones held for women affect them in every possible way . All the little stereotypes that women have add up creating big effects on women s day to day life. Their is no way around it especially in the workforce. The impact of stereotypes starts at a young age and these impacts stick with them fro the rest of their life. The cause of the impacts determines their career. The effects of stereotypes that women face in society start very early in their childhood. The media plays a big role in this. Miribel Tran the author of an article called The Effect of Social Media in Young Girls talks about how every time a girl opens a magazine, turn on the television or goes on any form of social media there is always a model on there that has been photoshopped to look smaller than she already does. There is always a new product out there to make them look better or more attractive . This makes girls feel like they have to look this way and if they do not they will not be noticed or looked at in a positive way. This causes most little girls to go into depression. Depression leads the little girls getting obese. The obesity makes them feel more worse about them because they think they are even further away from looking like the women they see on social media. This just makes it even more bad because this leads to grades falling in school (Tran ). The falling of their grades affects them in the future because if their grades fall they feel dumb. This makes them think that they will not get into a good college because they feel they are not smart enough for it. This stops girls from pursuing their dreams and affect the type of job they get in the future. The stereotype that men hold the character trait of brilliance and women do not is another big one that affects little girls. It affects most girls at the age of six. In theguardian Nicola Davis talks about a research done by three US Universities about how this stereotype affects girls. They did a research on 400 kids between the ages of five and seven half of them were girls the other half were boys. Out of the 400 kids 96 girls and boys of all three ages were shown ... The Alternatives to Coronary Bypass Surgery What are the alternatives to Coronary By Pass Surgery Introduction In 2006, more than 690,000 open heart surgeries were performed in the United States. These included surgeries to correct and repair defective valves as well as coronary artery bypass surgery. As recently as 70 years ago, these surgeries would have been impossible. The heart lung machine had yet to be invented, allowing surgeons to temporarily stop and start the heart. Prior to its invention, the longest a heart could be stopped was 30 to 40 minutes not enough time to complete extensive surgery (Smith, 2009). Since then, a number of minimally invasive surgical procedures have been introduced that permit surgeons to perform a variety of surgeries, making smaller incisions that leave smaller scars, reduce the chance of infection, are less painful to the patient and necessitate shorter hospital stays. These include minimally invasive direct coronary artery bypass, off pump coronary artery bypass, videoscopic surgery and robotic assisted heart surgery. In minimally invasive heart surgery, cardiac surgeons perform heart surgery by way of small incisions in the right side of the chest, as a substitute to open heart surgery. A notable exception [to nearly all Greek literary production being written by men] was the poet Sappho, who lived in the seventh century BCE on the island of Lesbos (thus the word lesbian). / Many young, wealthy Greek women were sent to Lesbos to study the arts with Sappho. Much of Sappho s surviving poetry is love lyrics to these young women (Meem, Gibson, Alexander 2018). The birth of lesbianism being a derivative of Sappho s Lesbos makes Sappho the rightful creator. In a more modern context, the traditional societal views prohibited lesbian identifying women to be open, thus forcing them to conceal their true affections. Before the rise of the lesbian feminist movement in the early 1970 s, twentieth century women writers were generally intimidated into silence about the lesbian experiences in their lives. In their literature, male personae took the voice of their most auto biographical characters, and they were thus permitted to love other women (Faderman 1979). Faderman continues to explain how Sappho s island of Lesbos became a type of code in the vernacular in the time of Lady Mary Montagu; her love letters to a woman named Anne Wortley included illusions to the fictitious island and what it would be like to fancy ourselves in Lesbos ... Instead of the angel figure giving life to the figure lying down; it seems as if the angel figure is taking the life of a baby from her, as she is now dead and the angels are taking care of the baby. The angel figure from the horse reaches her arms out to grasp the baby. All of the figures have the same hair color, blonde with slight curls. Along with the curls we notice that the front angel figure s hair is being blown straight up; this will later be explained. There are four figures and two horses in this painting. Each of the horses are centered and facing horizontally with very few vertical lines. The majority of the painting is smooth flowing without jagged, sharp or straight lines. In Pity there is darkness surrounding the characters, forcing the figures to stand out with great measure in the light. The colors in the background do not convey meaning to the picture. The background is dark and solemn, resembling blank space. The figures in Pity seem to carry the meaning, as opposed to the background. After reading his theory, there are some benefits to his opinion. The first is science keeps history chronological. Many historians might miscalculate by assuming a time period give or take a thousand years. With a scientific method, time is accurately documented and placed in order. I think with more factual evidence we can get a more accurate depiction of our history. I do understand this method is extremely hard to maintain. This is why I believe there should be a mixture of fact and myth. Although Handlin believes truth and fiction is a theory (8), I believe this is the best way to capture the emotions, hardships, and scope of past events. By adding McNeil s ideals with Handlin s there is diversity and more opportunity for discovery. McNeil states we, humans, are social creatures (15). Therefore, history should be based on social sciences. Clearly, there are pro s and con s to each theory. While I do not like that Handlin s theory is harder to log, I believe its accuracy makes up for the hindrance. As for McNeill s theory, I do not like its opportunity for biases, however, it s diversity compensates for its obstruction. There will never be a perfect theory.
