Lead Anchor Research Paper
In the role of executive producer there are no women or men of color in these position across ABC,
CBS and NBC news channels. Additionally, there are no women of color in a lead anchor position, but
there are only a few that are in the co anchor positions. Each national station s morning news show has
exactly one woman of color for each channel; Hoda Kotb with NBC Today, Robin Roberts with Good
Morning America and Gayle King with CBS This Morning. As for our local news stations, white
females account for 50% of the anchor, co anchor and reporter positions, whereas women of color
only fill 7.78%. Majority of the local station anchor positions are working dual roles as a reporter also.

By analyzing the number of positions that are currently being held by women of color we can bring
awareness to the struggles they face in order to fill a lead anchor or reporter s position. There has not
been a lot of changes, but by bringing attention to how uneven the playing field is when it comes to
television journalism, women of color have dealt with for decades has changed very little. The
hypothesis is correct, that there is a lack of present when it comes to women of color in the television
news media. Consequently, no data sets are available that has discussed the prevalence of racism and
sexism in broadcast journalism. My theory of Spiral of Silence reflects that, women of color, value
their jobs and fear that if they voice their opinion they could lose their jobs. The lack of dataset does
not completely rule out that the spiral of silence theory is applicable in this setting, but that current
available studies do not focus on the reason for the lack of representation. Tabnie Dozier, said that the
road to become a lead anchor for women of color takes grit, determination the struggles present, keep
pressing forward (Dozier, Personal Communication, 2018). With our local news station data there are
only 6 women of color in lead anchor jobs compared to 45 white females during the same job. The
national morning news show has similar results, only 3 women of color that are in lead anchor roles.
To increase the validity of this analysis, including cable network news in this study, which would have
impacted the finding greatly. There were studies that I found that mainly focus on women in general,
but not women of color, but the dates of these studies were outdated. There were no studies shown that
reflected on the lack of women of color in television news and the reason why. There were articles that
showcase women of color that has made a difference in the television broadcast,

The Impact Of Imperialism
Anciently, imperialism has developed with the rise of human s civilisation. Imperialism defined as per
Cambridge dictionary as a system or a situation where one country with superior power used force or
influence to rule and exploit another country (Cambridge dictionary, 2017). In the contemporary
colonial era, many European intellectuals and thinkers have justified imperialism such as Rudyard
Kipling with his famous poem The White Man s Burden (Kiplingsociety.co,uk, 2017). The poem
reflected the agreement of many Europeans of their superiority, which attached with a duty to spread
Western ideas and knowledge toward non Western people. They thought they were primitive
barbarians as Kipling expressed them Half devil and half child and they need guidance to change their
way of life. Extraordinarily, the British has exceeded its European counterparts in colonial superiority
and extended its empire, the largest in the world, over fifth of the land in the earth and they gained that
status because of their naval superiority and manoeuvres. By 1783, Britain had established an empire
which comprised colonies in Canada, America and the West Indies (BBC.co.uk, 2017). The British
East India Company had built up a small empire of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Review Of Vampire Bats
1. Vampire bats give blood to unrelated vampire bats for several reasons. Among the reasons are the
cost sharing of blood, the benefit of sharing blood and the probability that the bats that were given
blood will in turn reciprocate and give blood to other bats at a later date. The cooperative equilibria in
blood sharing among bats means that the sharing of blood will occur if the benefits of sharing blood
multiplied by the probability that blood sharing will be beneficial in the future is greater than the cost
of sharing blood. If a bat shares blood with another bat (even an unrelated bat), the bat that is the
recipient is expected to donate blood to other bats at a larger rate than it received at a later time.
A donor bat will give blood to a bat that has not had a meal so that this bat can have the opportunity to
hunt again, giving an increased chance that it will reciprocate to another bat that has not had a meal,
enabling the roost to maintain survival. In the event that a recipient bat does not reciprocate in the
future, that bat will not be donated to if it needs it in the future, thus allowing for recipient bats to be
donor bats in the future as needed.
2. In the Berg, Dickhaut and McCabe (1995) study, factors that influence the likelihood of trust in
economic transactions is a fundamental assumption that individuals act in their own self interest which

consumption;

The Inequality Between Men And Women
Throughout the history of mankind, women have not been in the workforce until recently. A woman s
place has mainly been at the home, until only about sixty years ago. Women would take care of the
children, cook, clean, care for the sick, and when needed, they would be extra labor around the farm.
Women first started to work in large numbers during the industrial revolution, mainly in the textile
industry. Since then, most women have gone into the workforce. Today a family cannot survive on the
wages of the man alone. However, even though women are needed to work, they still do not make as
much as men. There are still inequalities between men and women, and there is still a large wage gap.
Women today make about eighty cents on the dollar that a man makes. Some careers have a higher
wage gap, and the careers that are dominated mainly by women, like nursing, have a more equal wage
to men. The mortuary science field is not different than the other careers. Women are not currently
dominating this field, so they are not paid as much as men are. Women have faced bias through
history, and women in the mortuary science field still face it today. There are many different reasons
bias remains in this industry. One reason is that women are thought of as not being strong enough to
physically lift the dead. However, women can be as strong as any man, and if not they will find a way
to complete the job. Another reason there is bia, is because women are thought of as emotional. With

Sexual Assault Of The Military
Sexual assault in the military has been an ongoing problem for centuries. In the United States Armed
Forces sexual assault is a crime that has just recently drawn a great deal of public attention and has
placed pressure on the government to put a stop to the abuse. The department of defense under
pressure and supervision from the government is going to great measures to address this ongoing
problem. Although measures are in place to educate, protect the victims, and punish the offenders, the
problem still exists and there has been little improvement to show the measures are working. It could
be argued that repealing the don t ask don t tell policy has contributed significantly the sexual assault
problem in the military.

Tobacco Liability in Illnesses and Deaths
Smoking has been around for quite some time now, dating back farther than 1492. On October 29,
1492, two of Christopher Columbus s crew members, Rodrigo de Jerez and Luis de Torres, were the
first two Europeans to try smoking tobacco offered to them by the Native Indians (Marcovitz 14).
Tobacco companies will lose revenue and may vanish as one of the oldest and wealthiest industries in
America because of frivolous liability lawsuits and competition from companies producing other
tobacco related products.
In the future, tobacco products are more likely to vanish in time because of the addiction and diseases
that smoking can cause. Many smokeless tobacco users have said that it is harder to quit snuff and
chewing tobacco, and that it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Seventeen days later, he arrived in Cuba and met more Native Indians, this time they were smoking

the first Europeans to try smoking tobacco (Marcovitz 14). Not only was Rodrigo and Luis the first
Europeans to try smoking, they were also the first European chain smokers, people who smoke
cigarettes daily (Marcovitz 14 15). Columbus was not the only explorer to have been around the
Native Indians while they were smoking tobacco. Other explorers witnessed the Native Indians rolling
the tobacco into tight cylinders and then catching the tobacco on fire and inhaling the smoke fumes
produced from it (Marcovitz 15). Those explorers were eager to show the new habit they learned to
their home countries and in 1518, Hernan Cortes had returned to Spain, introducing them to the habit
with a cargo of tobacco (Marcovitz 15). In 1556, smoking was introduced to the French by Andre
Thevet, a monk who had picked up the habit in Brazil while on an expedition (Marcovitz 15). From
the 1560 s to the 1580s, several English explorers such as Sir Francis Drake and Sir Walter Raleigh
had brought tobacco to England, since most Americans brought tobacco to Europeans, Europeans
looked to America to help feed their bad habits (Marcovitz 15). Now, America is not the only place

Federal Bureaucracy
What is a federal bureaucracy? According to American Government: Roots and Reform federal
bureaucracy is defined as the thousands of federal government agencies and institutions that
implement and administer federal laws and programs. When the bureaucracy was first created it
contained only three small departments; State, Treasury, and War. Over time the Executive branch and
bureaucracy have grown significantly, now employing over three million people. This began with
people getting fed up with the dismal living situations of the early 20th century. They began looking to
the government to regulate living and working conditions, as well as child labor and food processing.

eyewitnesses; Claudex Simmons and Eddie Walker, whom testified against Burton identifying him as
the gunman. Simmons testimony changed and was inconsistent with statements in police reports

The Argument of Dualism Essay
In my mind, dualism is a more attractive view to take when considering the mind brain issue. The idea
that the mind is a separate entity and that it is independent of the physical body is the central point of
dualism. One reason it appeals to me is because of my religion, my Catholic upbringing. Introspection
is another good reason why dualism is a little more logical to me than materialism.. It logically
explains why the mind and brain are separate. Also, the divisibility argument raises good points to
allow dualism to appear to be the more attractive idea in my eyes. Dualism claims that the mind is a
distinct nonphysical thing, a complete entity that is independent of any physical body to which it is
temporarily attached. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sure the brain has the actual chemical processes and functions, but the mind holds the reasoning
behinds actions, and the complex feelings a person has. It is basically what makes a person who he is,
and controls his actions as a person. The brain only tells the body to carry out these actions. I think
that introspection is another good explanation for dualism being more attractive to me. Introspection
was explained to be a sort of mental state, like when you know you have a desire for something to eat.
If this occurs, one?s mind will tell his brain to make the body get up and get food to eat. I do not think
that the brain is capable of having that feeling of hunger, there might be a reaction in the brain to the
stomach being empty, but I believe the actual feeling is in the brain. A person has no way of knowing
the actual brain process, it can not be felt. That is an act that can only take place in one?s mind. The
actual wanting of food is going to be happening in the mind, not the brain. I think my mind is the focal
point of desires and other feelings, the brain is just a device which the mind uses to carry out its
wishes. A third argument for dualism is paranormal phenomena. Mental powers such as telepathy,
precognition, telekinesis, and clairvoyance are all near impossible to explain within the boundaries of
the physical brain. These phenomena reflect the nonphysical and supernatural nature

Police Misconduct On The Street Still Continue Throughout...
Over the years, law enforcement has been involved in many of unethical events that caused the
community to lose trust in them. There are many of reasons why it is difficult for the police to have
interaction with the citizens of the community. One reason the community do not trust the police is
because of racial profiling. Racial profiling has been going on for years and now the community is
getting tired of it. An example of racial profiling is a group of black teenagers being pulled over
because of the kind of car they are driving. Along with this act and many of other police corruption
acts has caused the community to question themselves about law enforcement. Many of concerns
about police misconduct on the street still continue throughout the community. Cities across the globe
have experienced intense altercations stemming from deadly shootings of citizens and allegations of
excessive use of force. Police are sworn in to Protect and Serve everyone in the community no matter
what race they are. Less than a week after Katrina hit New Orleans on September 4, 2005, police
executed 40 year old Ronald Madison and 17 year old James Brissette and injured four others. Five of
the New Orleans covered up the corruption by lying saying that people was shooting when they
arrived at the scene. When the officers arrived at the Danziger Bridge they just started shooting at
unarmed victims. Officers covered up the killing by planting a gun at the scene, fabricated witnesses

Essay on John D. Rockefeller
Jessica M. Hintermeister
American History
Louisa Garry
Due: Thursday, March 15, 2001 The Rockefellers feared the temptations of wealth, yet a visitor once
described their estate as the kind of place God would have built if only he d had the money. They
amassed a fortune that outraged a Democratic nation, then gave it all away reshaping America. They
were the closest thing the country had to a royal family, but the Rockefellers shunned the public eye.
For decades, the Rockefeller name was despised in America, associated with John D. Rockefeller Sr. s
feared monopoly, Standard Oil. By the end of his life, Rockefeller had given away half of his fortune.

Oil was being used to grease the wheels of America s infant industries, to fuel the expansion of
growth. Rockefeller lamented that so many wells were flowing that the price of oil kept falling yet
everyone went right on drilling. He saw an industry plagued from overproduction and his own success
was being threatened by ruinness cut throat competition. John D. was shrewd enough and he was
analytical enough that he realized that in order to figure out a way to save his own firm and his own
newly won fortune, that he had to figure out a solution for the entire industry. It was at that point that
John D. began to conceive of the oil industry as one big interrelated mechanism. And you couldn t just
change one component, you had to control the entire machine.
In a move that would transform the American economy, Rockefeller set out to replace a world of
independent oilmen with a giant company controlled by him. In l870, begging bankers for more loans,
he formed Standard Oil of Ohio. The next year, he quietly put what he called our plan his campaign to
dominate the volatile oil industry into devastating effect. Rockefeller knew that the refiner with the
lowest transportation cost could bring rivals to their knees. He entered into a secret alliance with the
railroads called the South Improvement Company. In exchange for large, regular shipments,
Rockefeller and his allies secured transport rates far

Examples Of Loss Of Innocence In A Long Way Gone
We went from children who were afraid of gunshots to now children who were gunshots... Shooting
became just like drinking a glass of water (Barnett, 2012). Ishmael Beah, the main character and
writer of the novel A Long Way Gone is a clear example of the loss of innocence that war causes.
During the Sierra Leone s civil war, Beah is recruited as a child soldier and eventually turned into a
cold blooded killer with no sign of naivety in his body. At a tender age, Beah is trained to kill, mutilate
and terrify dozens of people, which causes him to be bared to a flood of disturbing scenes; transform
into a murderer; loose all sense of emotion; and in time, lose his innocence. In the novel A Long Way

To start with, the story begins when Ishmael and his rap passionate friends are all headed to Mattru
Jong for a talent show, I left home with Junior...and Talloi...to go to the town of Mattru Jong, to
participate in our friends talent show (Beah, p.6). As one can see, he was just a vulnerable, naive boy
before mayhem broke loose around him. Moreover, Ishmael endures an extremely perilous adventure
in the jungle while fleeing war. But even though he evaded real danger for a while, he was never able
to elude his imaginary fears, I felt as if somebody was after me. Often my shadow would scare me and
cause me to run for miles. Everything felt awkwardly brutal. Even the air seemed to want to attack me
and break my neck (Beah, p.49). According to this situation, Ishmael was nothing more than a scared
little boy who is simply running for his life. Even though this is a good point, it fails to account for the
multiple massacres Ishmael contributed to, ...I angrily pointed my gun into the swamp and shot more
people. I shot everything that moved... (Beah, p.119). How can one be innocent and naive after
picking up a gun and using it against a human being? At the end of the day, guns don t kill people,
people kill people and this is exactly what Ishmael did. He killed. And killed. And

The Flight From Conversation Summary
In the article The Flight from Conversation, Sherry Turkle makes a point that technology has changed
people in their ways of interacting with each other. She states that people have lost the skills for
interacting face to face because they prefer to text or email each other. In the text, the author spent
over fifteen years studying people and asking them about their lives. She also found that cellphones
have changed what people do and who they are. People are accustomed to technology, it is a new way
of being alone together. This means that people could be sitting at a table together, but not having a

Summary Of Blink By Malcolm Gladwell Blink
In Chapter 2 of Blink by Malcolm Gladwell, Gladwell insist that what we think of as freewill is
largely an illusion: much of the time, we are simply operating on automatic pilot, and the way we
think and act and how we think and act on the spur of the moment are a lot more susceptible to outside
influences than we realize. (58). Gladwell is referring to priming, as human beings, our behavior and
decision making are often influenced by subtle triggers we are either aware of or not aware of. As
humans we are vulnerable to the most subtle stimuli. Gladwell provides examples of priming with
different types of exams and games administered to college students. An area where priming occurs on
a daily occurrence is at the grocery store because the products sold are strategically placed on the
shelves to target a specific audience company s want to sell their product to, the price tag are designed
with colors that we associates subconsciously with spending, and there are signs located all around the
store that tell you that you ll be saving money so that you buy more of that certain product or so you
are more likely to shop at that particular store. Priming is when subtle triggers we are either aware of
or not aware of influence our behavior. Gladwell has the reader imagine that he is a professor
proctoring a scrambled sentence test where students were asked to walk down a long hallway into an
exam room where they were given an exam with a list of five word sets and asked to change each
word set into a grammatically four word sentence as fast as possible. The test was not difficult but the
college students walked down the hallway more slowly than they walked towards the classroom. This
is because ingrained in the list were certain words that were associated with being old. This test, which
was developed by a clever psychologist named John Bargh, makes our adaptive unconsciousness
ponder about the state of being old. Further research suggests that individuals can be primed to behave
differently, various words may be used to influence people to be polite or rude. Malcolm Gladwell
demonstrates how a simple scramble sentence test challenges your sub consciousness into believing
that you are much older by simply

Restoration In Louisiana
The New York Times article, Left to Louisiana s Tides, a Village Fights For Time, discusses the plight
of Jean Lafitte, a town of seven thousand people located two miles below the levee protecting New
Orleans. A fourth of Louisiana s wetlands have been lost, much of which is due to intense hurricanes
from 2005 to 2008. It is estimated that a football field worth of wetland disappears every 100 minutes
and that in 200 years the wetlands will be completely gone. This degradation is due to climate change
and human intervention in the area in pursuit of oil and farmland and in the creation of levees. Oliver
A. Houck, a Tulane professor quoted in the article, claims, It is the largest ecological catastrophe in
North America since the Dust Bowl. The loss of the wetlands puts coastal, working class
communities, many of which have lived in the area since the 1800s, in danger of washing away. Local

Obviously, it has been largely ignored in how resources are extracted, leading to the issue of wetland
degradation. Oil drilling and driving boats to and from drills eroded large sections of the wetlands.
However, the issue of degradation cannot be completely solved. The Louisiana state government has
acknowledged that even with its restoration program, it cannot build enough land to offset the losses.
Under the principle of stewardship, we understand that the poor are affected first and worst, which is
clearly seen in coastal Louisiana. Not only are the poor affected more because they often live on the
front lines of environmental decay but also because, as a culture, we rush to protect more affluent
communities first. More resources are allocated to protect New Orleans from flooding than coastal
fishing communities like Jean Lafitte. Within the coastal towns though, residents have upheld
stewardship in their communion with the area and reciprocal understanding of how to care for

Pierre and Marie Curie were partners that had both become interested in the discovery Henri
Becquerel made which was the discovery of radioactivity. Marie and Pierre Curie came up with the
term radioactivity to describe Becquerel s discovery. Marie and Pierre extracted uranium from ore and
compared the pure uranium to the extracted uranium ore samples. They found that the uranium ore
samples contained more radioactivity. Marie s research concluded that the two uranium ore samples,
pitchblende and chalcocite, were more radioactive than the pure uranium and so because of the high

Economic Impact Of American Fast Food Upon Developing...
Economic Impacts of American Fast Food upon Developing Countries
Amanda Lee
Arkansas School for Mathematics, Sciences, and the Arts
Introduction
Developments leading up to the 21st century are best characterized by the economic advancements
found in countries all over the world. Regardless of the level of these advancements in a country,
achieving higher living standards, financial stability, and overall growth of the economy are the
perpetual goals for a country. Because every country is unique in terms of their economic, political,
and social standings, different methods in order to obtain these goals are to be considered. However,
the basic principles for achieving these goals seem to follow the trends of globalization: investment,
technological improvements, secure institutions, and a market economy. Countries that benefit the
most from globalization are found to be of high growth. The integration of a global economy in a
country has prompted entrepreneurs to regard the world as one market in the form of franchising. With
that being said, economic success can measure the effects of Western commercial globalization from
the results of American fast food franchise. Innovations in technology and society have eradicated the
difficulties with communication between different populations. This transition from communal living
standards to the interdependence of economies throughout the world will later be known as economic
globalization

Irobot Research Paper
Could you imagine a world where robots take over the world? People are afraid that in the future,
robots will take over the human race like in the movie iRobot. Robots will play a very important role
in our future and they are already are. According to Apple co founder Steve Wozniak states that a
robotic future powered by artificial intelligence would be scary and very bad for people and that
robots would get rid of the slow humans , Wozniak has staged a U turn and says he now thinks robots
taking over would be good for the human race. They re going to be smarter than us and if they re
smarter than us then they ll realize they need us, Today robots are very beneficial. We use them on day

Big companies like Google are signing a 60 year, $1.16 billion lease Moffett Naval Airfield in San
Francisco the historic Hangar One as part of its expansion into robotics, aviation and space
exploration. Kyrre Glette, Associate Professor at Oslo University s Department of Informatics states In
the future, robots must be able to solve tasks in deep mines on distant planets, in radioactive disaster
areas, in hazardous landslip areas and on the sea bed beneath the Antarctic. These environments are so
extreme that no human being can cope. Everything needs to be automatically controlled. For an
example a robot is entering the wreckage of a nuclear power plant. It finds a staircase that no one has
thought of. The robot takes a picture. The picture is analyzed. The arms of one of the robots is fitted
with a printer. This produces a new robot, or a new part for the existing robot, which enables it to
negotiate the stairs. This is the primary example of what the future could hold with robotic technology.
You can believe those who say robots will over run the world in the future, but robots have multiple
purposes that can do everything and will benefit us. Therefore, robots will play a very important part
in our future to do the impossible. Breakthroughs will come quickly for robotic innovations.
Driverless cars and new space information may take decades to come, while other completely
unexpected robotic applications could

Explain the Social Learning Theory
Explain the Social Learning Theory, making reference to two relevant studies.
By Tanisha Sabhaney
Behaviouristic theories of learning are essentially theories of conditioning and emphasize the role of
reinforcement in learning. One of the mot predominant theories is Albert Bandura s social learning
theory, which assumes that. People learn through observing others behavior, attitudes, and outcomes
of those behaviors which is called observational learning, that is an indirect form of learning known as
vicarious learning and indirect forms of reinforcement which is called vicarious reinforcement
.Bandura renamed SLT as social cognitive theory to accommodate the ever increasing importance in
his thinking of cognitive factors .SLT has also ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An example of verbal aggression was, Pow! and Sock him in the nose . After ten minutes the
experimenter entered and took the child to a new room which the child was told was another games
room. In stage two (Aggression Arousal) the child was subjected to mild aggression arousal . The
child was taken to a room with relatively attractive toys. As soon as the child started to play with the
toys the experimenter told the child that these were the experimenter s very best toys and she had
decided to reserve them for the other children. In Stage three the next room contained some aggressive
toys and some non aggressive toys. The non aggressive toys included a tea set, crayons, three bears
and plastic farm animals. The aggressive toys included a mallet and peg board, dart guns, and a 3 foot
Bobo doll. The child was in the room for 20 minutes and their behavior was observed and rated
though a one way mirror. Observations were made at 5 second intervals therefore giving 240 response
units for each child. Other behaviors that didn t imitate that of the model were also recorded e.g.
punching the Bobo doll on the nose. Bandura thus observed children who observed the aggressive
models made far more imitative aggressive responses than those who were in the non aggressive or
control groups. There was more partial and non imitative aggression among those children who has
observed aggressive behavior, although the difference for non imitative aggression was small. The

Room, by Emma Donoghue
We have all heard the African proverb that says, It takes a village to raise a child. The response given
by Emma Donoghue s novel Room, simply states, If you ve got a village. But if you don t, then maybe
it just takes two people (Donoghue 234). For Jack, Room is where he was born and has been raised for
the past five years; it is his home and his world. Jack s Ma on the other hand knows that Room is not a
home, in fact, it is a prison. Since Ma s kidnapping, seven years prior, she has survived in the shed of
her capturer s backyard. This novel contains literary elements that are not only crucial to the story but
give significance as well. The Point of view brings a powerful perspective for the audience, while the

aren t real like Ma is, and girls and boys not either. Men aren t real except Old Nick, and I m not

Through this, we see that the only other person who might be real is Old Nick. Even then, Jack
expresses the thought that Old Nick may not be completely real because he is from Outside. Once
Jack learns that outside is a real place he must being to comprehend the idea that Outside has
everything (Donoghue 71). As Jack begins to think this through he states:
Whenever I think of a thing now like skis or fireworks or islands or elevators or yo yos, I have to
remember they re real, they re actually happening in Outside all together. It makes my head hurt. And
people too, firefighters teachers burglars babies saints soccer players and all sorts, they re all really in
Outside. I m not there, though, me and Ma, we re the only ones not there. Are we still real? (Donoghue
71) This is just the beginning of his thought process about the unknown world he refers to as Outside.
The perspective of the narrator allows the reader to begin to understand the mind of a child. The
author chooses to use this unique point of view to give the audience the chance to think of what it
would be like to be in a situation like this. It makes a person reflect and think about their childhood,

Astor Pazzolla
Astor Piazzolla is from Argentina and became a composer. He created a new tango genre called nuevo
tango which incorporates jazz into tango that also infers expanding instrumentation. Since tango had
lost in popularity around 1950s and 1960s, Piazzolla was considered to be the saviour of tango since
he created the new genre of tango. Traditional tango was for dance, not for listening. Furthermore, it
was listened and played by poor people or lower middle class people. In 1950s, Tango started losing it
s creativity and popularity. Since then, tango became things that were listened and studied. In fact,
new tango music was not allowed to be melodic since tango was used for protestant and expression
which means that the music has power.
Piazzolla developed the traditional tango in 1955 and it has gained popularity in upper middle class as
well as international tourists. Tango that Piazzolla developed was for listening due to its rhythm. He
transformed tango music from a functional dance style to a symbolic social statement (Live Class
session 3). Those statement represented the poor and oppressed people in Argentina as well as the
world. It also inferred the importance of each human being. The melody of his tango music was

Milton Hershey s Accomplishments
Milton Hershey once said, If I ever become rich, I am going to use my money to build schools to give
every boy and girl an opportunity to get an education (Quotes Said by Milton Hershey). These words
reflected how Milton Hershey felt about education because he was uneducated and forced to drop out.
Hershey knew from that point on that he wanted to help others get educated. The Hershey Company
helped him achieve these goals. Milton Hershey always has a passion for candy making, and he
fulfilled his dream by becoming one of the most successful chocolate entrepreneurs. He used his
wealth to create a school for orphaned boys and helped anyone in need.
Milton Hershey was born on September 13, 1857 in Derry Township, Pennsylvania to Henry Hershey
and Veronica Fanny Snavely. Milton had one younger sister named Serina Hershey, who had died of
scarlet fever when she was four (Milton S. Hershey). Veronica was the daughter of Bishop Abraham

What is the name of your organization? What year was the agency founded?
I would like to focus on one non profit organization that has been doing very well in the recent years.
The name of the organization is St Jude Research Hospital, which deals with the cure and treatment of
children suffering from catastrophic diseases. In the five decades, it has been operational, the mortality
rate has gradually reduced therefore saving lots of lives. St Jude started its operations in 1962. Danny
Thomas was the one who started the organization and was helped by two other close friends (Pui, Pei,
Pappo, Howard, Cheng, Sandlund and Gajjar, 2012).
What was the total revenue for the current year?
The total revenue of any firm is calculated by adding the total sales of good and services in a given
period mostly one year as explained by Austin, (2002). According to St Jude children s Research
Hospital s financial statement for the year ending June 2014, the total revenue totalled to $
410,148,655. It was achieved by the addition of net patient service revenue ($ 104,014,142), research
grants and contracts ($ 93,786,845), net investment income ($ 201,569,845), net assets released from
restrictions (0) and other revenues ($ 10,778,398).

Blade Runner Themes In Frankenstein
In Frankenstein, Mary Shelley shows a variety of themes that concern creation of humanity, family,
the sublime. Shelley presents these themes through characters, and the actions and emotions
experienced in particular situations. With these themes in Frankenstein, there are similar relationships
that are in Scott Ridley s Blade Runner. The theme of creation that is used in Frankenstein, comes
from the main character of Victor Frankenstein, who wants to successfully create a human life form.
Shelley criticizes Victor that not only creating a new being, but for abandoning the creature when it
came to life. The theme of creation is also referenced in Blade Runner when it comes to the creation of
the Replicants because they were supposed to be better humans than humans. Dr. Tyrell, Blade
Runner. The Replicants were created with a fix life span of only four years, which was to prevent them
from getting out of control. Similar to the Victor Frankenstein, Dr. Tyrell has complications when
creating his lifeforms for which he doesn t want their responsibility Family is an important theme in
Frankenstein because the creature wants to desperately have a companion so that he can no longer be
lonely in the world. This was also due to the rejection of appearance and overall disgust society had
for the creature, and his own creator is disgusted by him. This causes the creature to go into denial and
draws him to evil causing him to kill people that are close or even related to his

c. In this political cartoon, there is an American citizen depicted in both 2008 and 2016 expressing his

Barack Obama is pictured by his side. The citizen is grinning, looking at President Obama with wide
eyes and excitement. Alongside that depiction, the citizen is again shown in 2016. He is saying again,
Anyone can become president, however this time Donald Trump is standing by his side. This time the
citizen is sad and looks disappointed.

Many criticisms have been made on the validity of social media s impact on activism because of its
lack of the strong, personal bonds required in high risk activism as in such prominent activist
campaigns as the Civil Rights Movement. Social media is not as effective in creating a significant
impact in social activism compared to actual riots and protests. It lacks the centralized, structured focus
needed for effective social movements. Critics of social media and its growing impact would argue
that the impersonal nature of social media does not promote action and personal sacrifice so much as it
promotes participation in spreading the message of the cause and support of the values of the cause.
The argument is made that activists on social media would rather like a page on Facebook or follow a
Twitter account than risk their lives for the sake of their causes which is reflected in many statistics
that show a low ratio between the amount of likes received on a page and the amount of action taken
to aid in fixing the problem being presented; for example, the popular ALS Ice Bucket Challenge that

percent of UK participants involved in the challenge actually donated to the cause. Also, according to

The Fragility of Dominance
Machismo is an attitude, quality or way of behaving that agrees with traditional ideas of masculinity,
defining the stature of a man by his predisposed dominant nature. It is in this domination that the
fragility of the masculine condition is recognized, conceptually the natural philosophy relies on
incessant validation through the means of domination. However, masculinity becomes a reaction
against passivity which leads to a self destructive identity proving its fragility as an ideology and not a
biological reality. In Blood Wedding, Francisco Lorca defines masculine fragility as the perpetual need
to validate one s own machismo, making a commentary on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Furthermore, Lorca uses the knife to symbolize an invention of man, which is created to keep men in
their place and regain complete control of power. The mother states He d still be with us here if men
hadn t invented knives. (Lorca 18) This symbol enhances the violent nature of masculinity, and is fully
developed as it becomes the death of both Leonardo and the bridegroom as the mother states in the
closing of the play, Neighbours: with a knife, with a little knife, on a day appointed, between two and
three, the two love driven men killed each other. With a knife. With a little knife that hardly fits into
the hand; but which nearly enters the astonished flesh and stood at the place where lies trembling,
enmeshed, the dark root of the scream. (Lorca 63) Also prominently featured is the imagery in the
death of the characters that echoes the violent nature of man, Torn flowers their eyes, and their teeth
two fistfuls of snow frozen hard. The two of them fell, and the bride is coming back with blood soaked
skirt and hair. Covered with two blankets they re coming on the shoulders of tall young men. So it
was; just that. It was right. Over the flower of gold, filthy sand. (Lorca 61) The image created by the
comparison of the men s eyes to torn flowers and the bride covered in blood is savage in nature and it
comments on violence becoming an institutionalized form of resolving conflict between males. Lorca
further demonstrates this through the use of language associated with the confrontation of Leonardo
and the bridegroom, that s right. The greatest hunt there ever was. (Lorca 53) The confrontation of the
two men becomes a hunt , implying a battle with a sole survivor. Lorca embodies this as Leonardo and
the Bridegroom die in the fear of weakness and

The Importance Of Maintaining The Correct Acid Base Balance
The importance of maintain the correct acid base balance in the body is crucial for a healthy lifestyle.
Human bodies are very sensitive to pH levels and must be maintained to prevent any health issues.
The term pH means potentials oh hydrogen. To function properly our blood pH is regulated at 7.4. The
degree of acidity or alkalinity is referred to as the acid base balance. The acidity levels increase when
the acidic compounds in the blood increase of the alkaline compounds in the blood fall. Alkalinity
increases when the reverse occurs. The levels of alkaline and acidic compounds depend on the body s
intake, production or decreased elimination or vice versa. If the pH rises or falls increasingly the body
s proteins and enzymes can denature and stop functioning. This can cause serious diseases such as
cancers or even death. Therefore, our body has essential mechanisms in place to regulate the pH of our
blood.
Regulating acid base balance:
The main functions of the body that deal with maintaining acid base balance are the buffer, renal and
respiratory systems.
Buffer System:
Normal metabolism produces hydrogen in the form of acids; to maintain the pH of the blood the acids
are buffered or removed from the body. A buffer works in a pair, a weak acid is activated when the pH
is at risk from a strong base/ a weak base is activated when the pH is at risk from a strong acid.
Whenever the buffer reaction is carried out the concentration of one of the pairs increases while the

Learnability of a Language Essay
Learnability of a Language
I.
A child must achieve competence with an infinite language based on a finite number of heard
sentences. This is the essence of Noam Chomsky s poverty of the stimulus argument. As originally
presented, it made a case for nativism, forcing empiricist theories to explain how such competence is
achievable. In Stephen Pinker s Language Learnability and Language Development, he uses
learnability both as a challenge to theories of language acquisition, and as a heuristic for evaluating
them. Terrence Deacon, in The Symbolic Species, while dismissive of most of Chomskyan linguistics,
still sees the learnability problem as a challenge to any theory that hopes to explain human linguistic
knowledge. I will begin ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They also forbid transformations from applying to already transformed data. These two constraints
strongly limit the context freeness of language. By doing so, only a finite number of sentences at a
certain level of nesting are allowed; after enough time, the learner can conclude that all unseen
sentences of that depth are ungrammatical. These strong constraints are not arbitrary: Wexler and
Culicover found that most proposed transformations fit the two conditions. Also, Chomsky
independently concluded from examining linguistic data that a similar process, the subjacency
principle, was operating (Pinker 1979).
Pinker, too, concludes that the scope of possible languages is limited: Children acquire language by
exploiting rich formal and substantive constraints on the types of rules that languages may have...[the
child] entertains a small subset of the hypotheses consistent with the data (1984, p. 358). Pinker
concludes that constraints, including word order and phrase structure geometry (e.g. subjacency) aid
the learning of grammars (1984, p. 358).
Deacon s response to Gold s argument does not make any specific claims about the set of possible
grammars. However, according to Deacon s theory, one would expect to find a plentitude of
simplifying linguistic universals arising from the coevolution of language to

Symbolism In Tennessee William s The Glass Menagerie
Symbolism is a major aspect in Tennessee William s famous play, The Glass Menagerie. On the
surface, the short slice of life story seems to be simple. However, if the reader digs deeper they will
find that there are several symbols that give the play a deeper meaning. Each character defines each
symbol in a different way. Aside from character symbols, there is overall symbolism in this play. It is
set in a memory, so it creates a soft, dream like setting. This lends to the whole idea behind the play
that the characters are unable to function in reality. None of the characters are capable of living in the
present. All of the characters retreat into their separate worlds to ... Show more content on

Now it is like all of the other horses. The unicorn losing its horn is a symbol. The unicorn in its
original state symbolizes something different. It is delicate, beautiful, and precious in it s own unique

When Laura starts to talk to Jim, she gets more confidence in herself and realizes that she is not that
different from everyone else in the world. The horn symbolizes a difference, an obstacle to be

The fire escape is a major symbol in this play. It represents a different symbol for each character. For

Non Small Cell Lung Cancer
Non Small cell lung cancer is one of two major cancers that affect smokers and nonsmokers. About
85% of lung cancers are non small cancers, and at least 80% of that comes from smoking (American
Cancer Society). In the United States, lung cancer is the second cancer most frequently diagnosed in
both men and women and remains the major cause of cancer related death.(Jan A. Burger, 2012). It
mostly affects group ages from little as 6 to old as 60+. The factors that lead people to get this cancer
of the lungs is by tobacco smoke which the biggest risk factor (Tobacco smoke also contains a large
amount of free radical oxygen that can cause oxidation of the DNA nucleobase guanine to form 8

Cigarette smoke is harmful and it contains over 60 known carcinogens particularly polycyclic
aromatic hydrocarbons and nitrosamines. Cytochrome P450 enzymes metabolically activate these
polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and nitrosamines, which can then bind to DNA leading to DNA
adducts.(Br Med Bull (2010). These carcinogens are main reasons that a person who smokes a lot of
cigarette is likely to get lung cancer, or that person may not cancer at all. Genetic studies have
identified a nicotine dependence locus on chromosome 15q24 25, which includes the αα5 α3 β4
nicotinic receptor gene cluster. A polymorphism, which alters an amino acid in the αα5 nicotinic
receptor subunit, also influences the risk for lung cancer, COPD and vascular disease (Br Med Bull
(2010)).
Chronic inflammation predispose of lung cancer. Chronic lung inflammation predisposes to lung
cancer. There is a 4 5 times greater risk for developing lung cancer among those with COPD
independent of age or smoking history (Lee G 2009). Even among non smokers, the presence of
emphysema on CT scan or a history of COPD is significantly associated with an increased risk of
developing lung cancer (Yang P, Sun Z, Krowka MJ, 2008) Chronic persistent inflammation may also
cause the usually quiescent bronchoalveolar stem cells

Frankenstein Language Analysis
What is language? In the Merriam Webster dictionary language is defined as the system of words or
signs that people use to express thoughts and feelings to each other . This is a very broad definition
and captures so many of the tools that we use each and every day to communicate with each other. It
includes spoken or written words as well as non verbal cues and signs, including sign language. It also
captures systems of communication such as computer languages and braille. This is why an historical
figure like Helen Keller as referenced by Perkins.org ,who was deaf and blind was also able to acquire
language skills and give a voice to disabled people. She is a perfect example that language empowers
us to understand, question and change ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Everyone uses language to influence others, whether it is in our small family world or the world in a
broader sense. Mark Pagel in his Ted talk, How language transformed humanity (ted.com) described
how language gives us the power to change the world as follows: I m talking about your language, of
course, because it allows you to implant a thought from your mind directly into someone else s mind .
Ultimately, language gives every one of us the power to effect change by using our knowledge and
opinions to influence others and the way we see the world. This is what the politicians and the media
in our society seek to do every day. The broader our knowledge of language and the subtleties of
language in our different spheres (home, work, society and planet), the more broadly we can effect
change. In Ru, for example, we learn that the physical language varies depending on the culture. If a
mark of affection can sometimes be taken for an insult, perhaps the gesture of love is not universal: it
too must be translated from one language to another, must be learned. (Thúy 96) In order to effect
change, we must have knowledge of these subtleties of language. Further, in the novel Frankenstein
the monster attempted to change his world by coercing Frankenstein into creating another monster
who would be his mate. Unfortunately, he did this by killing those

How Sports Can Help Bring Together Diverse Groups Of People
As a theater artist, I ve never had time for sports. I looked at the world and it s people through the eyes
of a Shakespeare geek, and thought throwing around a ball and cheering for people wearing certain
colors was a waste of time. Never in my wildest dreams would I think of giving football the time of
day, but that was before I became a mascot. By some kind of luck and desperation for a job I have
ended up as the Piper: the red and grey sports mascot of Hamline. Through this job I have come to see
how sports can help bring together diverse groups of people, and inspire the spectators to be their best
selves. When I went to bed the night before my very first football game, I was nervous and excited. I
was about to become a part of something which I had no knowledge of. When I originally applied to
be the piper had no idea what the job would detail, I just needed the money. I was homeschooled for
all of middle school and high school and had never seen a football game before in my life, even on
TV. I was surprised, but very pleased, that I even got the job. As I fell asleep, I was anxiously
anticipating becoming a part of something new. I should have expected that something would go
wrong. I woke up at 12:30pm on the day of the game. I was supposed to be present and ready to don
my costume a half an hour prior, according to the vast amount of messages that cluttered my phone s
lockscreen. I spent the next 20 minutes in traffic convincing myself that I would be fired,

Social discrimination has been a vexing issue throughout the world. A huge part of the society is a

Discussion:
Workforce diversity is categorized as a workforce consisting of a broad mix of workers, including
different individual characteristics and racial and ethnic backgrounds. In an organization where
workforce is diverse in term of biographical characteristics of age groups, ethnicity, gender and ability,
the collaborative force is believed to bring higher profitability and success. (Jung Erceg, Pandza,
Armbruster Dreher, 2007) This diverse workforce will bring up a team of collaborative excellence and
enhanced creativity maximizing the overall organizational performance. The individual characteristics
which will bring the collaborative excellence includes age factors; different age groups will work
together, combining the perspective of past experience, present scenario and future achievements and
providing solutions to achieve excellence, gender; combining the force of women with men will
double the performance and reduce time consuming, ethnicity and background differentials will bring
different solutions towards critical uncertainties. (Schneider Northcraft, 1999) Therefore, in order to
achieve collaborative excellence and progress, a workforce needs of a diverse workforce. Therefore,
industries consider the imperious role of workforce diversity, but unfortunately SMEs in UK presents
a different scenario.

Analysis Of The Book Christian Travels
Finally he indicates the condition of man through the journey it takes to get out of the city. In the
story, Christian travels out of the city only to find that the path is almost as treacherous as the city
itself. First he falls into the Bog named the Slough of Despond. The Slough is not only very hard to
see, but the way though the bog is hidden from all travelers. In the Story, Help describes the slough as
being desolate because of the fears, doubts, and discouraging apprehensions that come to a sinner who
is enlightened (Bunyan 23). John Bunyan clearly illustrates a path that is hard to follow because
leaving sin is one of the hardest things to do. Bunyan confirms that he believes that sin is hard to leave
by telling us of his early hardships with temptations. The temptations of sin became so overwhelming
that Bunyan felt like selling his soul to the devil and after trying to say no he gave into Satan (Abrams
2134 2137). Then later in the Journey to the Cross, Bunyan also uses the character named World to
describe the many other hardships that come along the trail. Thou art like to meet with in the way
which thou goest wearisomeness, painfulness, hunger, perils, nakedness, sword, lions, dragons,
darkness and in a word, death and what not? (Bunyan 25). Clearly Bunyan wants to show that the
condition of man is terrible because of the awful problem of sin that pulls every person away from
God.
Next the writer uses the allegory of Christian s burden to enhance the

The Police Chief Placed A Picture Of The Serial Black Widow
The police chief placed a picture of the serial black widow murderer in front of me and my throat
constricted. They were scheduled to get married in less than a week and there was no evidence to take
convinces the bridegroom to call off the wedding let alone delay the nuptials. That old saying that it is
always the last person you would ever expect? Well, there was no way in hell did I see this one
coming. Of all the times to think about Tessa and how sad she had looked to tell me her parents had
received a job offer and she would have to move away. If it wasn t for her kissing me that day, I doubt
I would ve had the nerve to make the first move. Now that I thought about it, this was actually the
perfect time to remember that and one other little thing about my pass. However, she wasn t in the
category of things I wish I could forget. I was not what you would call a very popular kid. You could
say I was at the very far end of the popularity hierarchy. Actually, I was at the bottom. My mother had
seen one too many shows about how to raise a star. Soon there were piano lessons, singing lessons,
and worse of all ballet lessons. Oh, but my father did as best he could and I started taking classes in
magic. I doubt there is no greater embarrassment than participating in the school s annual talent show
and your mother is your sexy assistant that is supposed to divert the audience s attention. I had to
admit, there was one thing that came out of that life changing

Don Byron Paradox
Lord Byron ( George Gordon Byron ) was one of the the most fashionable poet of the day and was
also known as a popular Romantic hero. ( Lord Byron (George Gordon) ) The poem that really
brought Byron to be known to other is Childe Harold s Pilgrimage but the masterpiece that the wrote
during his lifetime was called Don Juan. It was considered one of the greatest long poem in english
writing( George Gordon Byron ). His work greatly influenced the work of later Romantic poets. He
also known to other as someone who is a romantic paradox and this is shown in many of his poems(
Lord Byron (George Gordon) ). Lord Byron is an romantic paradox so his poems have a incongruous
theme. Some poems that shows a incongruous theme is She Walks in Beauty , When We Two Parted ,
So We ll Go No More a Roving , and An Thou art Dead as Young and Fair , and these poem all some a
common stylistic feature which is having a rhyme scheme, imagery and even personification. Lord
Byron s She Walks in Beauty shows an example that he himself is an romantic paradox. In this poem,
even though Byron is describing a women and how good her beauty is, but then the word that he uses
to describe the surrounding and even herself is incongruous. One example that he was describing the
surrounding of where the women is at is And all that s best of dark and bright (3, Amy Abrams). This
shows it contradictory since dark and bright are two opposite describing of what time is now or how
the sky looks now.

Parent-Related Study Of Marijuana Essay
There has been an extensive amount of research done on risk factors and marijuana use. Among
adolescents the vast majority of the research has identified five major risk factors associated with
adolescent marijuana use, family relations (parent child attachment), peer associations, substance
abuse programs, gender, and race. Some researchers have found that the family is the best predictor of
adolescent marijuana use, while others claim that peer associations are predictors of adolescent
marijuana use. Others believe that substance abuse programs are the key to deterring adolescent drug
use. The final groups of researchers believe gender and race are the underlining predictors. The
following studies will give a quick overview of the prior research on risk factors and adolescent
marijuana use.
Parent Child Attachment According to Hoffmann (1993) adolescents who suffer from a parental death
or divorce are likely to turn to marijuana to help cope with the stress that has been created. A death or
divorce is extremely detrimental to adolescents because it hinders them from creating or continuing a
bond with their family. A strong family relationship rarely affects adolescent behavior after a negative
event like this occurs. Because attachment has been weakened by a big event, it is very difficult to
regain the family ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Family disruptors such as divorce and remarriage also have particular influences on drug use. Older
adolescents are greatly affected by divorce and remarriage because the family structure has changed.
This tends to make older adolescents look for support systems outside the home. The effects of the
change can cause adolescents to seek out positive or negative relationships with peers. Younger
adolescents are less affected by family disruptors because they do not have the same opportunities or
freedom to look outside the home for support, as do older adolescents

Essay about Changing the Drinking Age to 18
Young teens all get a bad rep when it comes to drinking alcohol. Especially college students that are
considered binge drinkers . When in reality a nation wide survey of students at 168 colleges and
university s found some interesting things about the underage corrupt youth. 93% of all students have
never received a lower grade in a class because of drinking too much. 98% of all college students say
that they have never gotten into trouble from an administrator from excessive drinking. While the
media continually gives the under twenty one community a bad rep, in reality they are continually
practicing safe drinking habits and in some cases not drinking at all. According to the National

Another step that should be made in order for this law to be taken is to increase the amount of
drinking and driving laws. Drunk driving should not be tolerated of any kind. Punishment should be
increased and the current zero tolerance policy should remain if not made harsher. This would make
anti drinking organizations such as M.A.D.D. and S.A.D.D. happy for the drinking and driving aspect.
Defensive driving courses would also be made readily available in high schools throughout the
country. It would be a mandatory course to take. This would be a regulation because in most cases
there will be a small percentage of drunk drivers on the road still. There are more and more teenage
drivers on the road currently and these defensive driving courses would help make responsible drivers
aware of the dangers and prevent them from accidents involving the drunk driving. No matter what the
legal drinking age is there will always be drunk drivers on the road. Teenagers are over represented in
driving accidents involving alcohol. But for the ones that do, we must enforce harsher penalty s to
drivers that are under the influence. Another thing that would be helpful is for the government to
sponsor a program that would support some sort of Designated Drivers program on college campus s
and bars. This would eliminate a lot of the possible drinking and driving situations that would arise
and it would condone responsible drinking policies to everyone, and

Native American Art Of Navajo Blanket Weaving Essay
Native American Art of the Navajo Blanket Weaving
Ingrid Anderson
Governors State University
Native American Art of the Navajo Blanket Weaving
Native Americans are the indigenous people of the North American continent and the cultural
traditions and art forms are unique to these regional groups. The people in these groups have several
names and the first adopted name Indian by Spanish explorers proved erroneous, however, now
accepted names include either American Indian or Native American. I will refer to these groups as
Native Americans or by their tribal affiliation. There are diverse tribal groups original to North
America who lived on the Great Plains, in the Woodlands, on the Northwest coast, and in the
Southeast or the Southwest regions. Various Native American tribes created art forms such as the
Apache, Cherokee, Pueblo, and Hopi communities. In my research, I found that the Navajo also
contributed in many ways to Native American art through making jewelry, beading, drawing, painting,
sculpting, carving, and weaving. These art works provided their tribe notoriety with countless years of
experience through their creativity and sense of design , lending to an astonishing volume and variety
of artwork which has created a lasting legacy , per NativeAmerican Art.com (2010). Understandably,
art comes in various forms and from various cultures, but the Native American Navajo tribe
contributed vastly and merits mention for its beautiful contributions. Therefore, I

  • 2. Lead Anchor Research Paper In the role of executive producer there are no women or men of color in these position across ABC, CBS and NBC news channels. Additionally, there are no women of color in a lead anchor position, but there are only a few that are in the co anchor positions. Each national station s morning news show has exactly one woman of color for each channel; Hoda Kotb with NBC Today, Robin Roberts with Good Morning America and Gayle King with CBS This Morning. As for our local news stations, white females account for 50% of the anchor, co anchor and reporter positions, whereas women of color only fill 7.78%. Majority of the local station anchor positions are working dual roles as a reporter also. WDRB 41 and WHAS 11 have no women of color in the role ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By analyzing the number of positions that are currently being held by women of color we can bring awareness to the struggles they face in order to fill a lead anchor or reporter s position. There has not been a lot of changes, but by bringing attention to how uneven the playing field is when it comes to television journalism, women of color have dealt with for decades has changed very little. The hypothesis is correct, that there is a lack of present when it comes to women of color in the television news media. Consequently, no data sets are available that has discussed the prevalence of racism and sexism in broadcast journalism. My theory of Spiral of Silence reflects that, women of color, value their jobs and fear that if they voice their opinion they could lose their jobs. The lack of dataset does not completely rule out that the spiral of silence theory is applicable in this setting, but that current available studies do not focus on the reason for the lack of representation. Tabnie Dozier, said that the road to become a lead anchor for women of color takes grit, determination the struggles present, keep pressing forward (Dozier, Personal Communication, 2018). With our local news station data there are only 6 women of color in lead anchor jobs compared to 45 white females during the same job. The national morning news show has similar results, only 3 women of color that are in lead anchor roles. To increase the validity of this analysis, including cable network news in this study, which would have impacted the finding greatly. There were studies that I found that mainly focus on women in general, but not women of color, but the dates of these studies were outdated. There were no studies shown that reflected on the lack of women of color in television news and the reason why. There were articles that showcase women of color that has made a difference in the television broadcast, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Impact Of Imperialism Anciently, imperialism has developed with the rise of human s civilisation. Imperialism defined as per Cambridge dictionary as a system or a situation where one country with superior power used force or influence to rule and exploit another country (Cambridge dictionary, 2017). In the contemporary colonial era, many European intellectuals and thinkers have justified imperialism such as Rudyard Kipling with his famous poem The White Man s Burden (Kiplingsociety.co,uk, 2017). The poem reflected the agreement of many Europeans of their superiority, which attached with a duty to spread Western ideas and knowledge toward non Western people. They thought they were primitive barbarians as Kipling expressed them Half devil and half child and they need guidance to change their way of life. Extraordinarily, the British has exceeded its European counterparts in colonial superiority and extended its empire, the largest in the world, over fifth of the land in the earth and they gained that status because of their naval superiority and manoeuvres. By 1783, Britain had established an empire which comprised colonies in Canada, America and the West Indies (BBC.co.uk, 2017). The British East India Company had built up a small empire of ... • 4. Review Of Vampire Bats 1. Vampire bats give blood to unrelated vampire bats for several reasons. Among the reasons are the cost sharing of blood, the benefit of sharing blood and the probability that the bats that were given blood will in turn reciprocate and give blood to other bats at a later date. The cooperative equilibria in blood sharing among bats means that the sharing of blood will occur if the benefits of sharing blood multiplied by the probability that blood sharing will be beneficial in the future is greater than the cost of sharing blood. If a bat shares blood with another bat (even an unrelated bat), the bat that is the recipient is expected to donate blood to other bats at a larger rate than it received at a later time. A donor bat will give blood to a bat that has not had a meal so that this bat can have the opportunity to hunt again, giving an increased chance that it will reciprocate to another bat that has not had a meal, enabling the roost to maintain survival. In the event that a recipient bat does not reciprocate in the future, that bat will not be donated to if it needs it in the future, thus allowing for recipient bats to be donor bats in the future as needed. 2. • 5. The Inequality Between Men And Women Throughout the history of mankind, women have not been in the workforce until recently. A woman s place has mainly been at the home, until only about sixty years ago. Women would take care of the children, cook, clean, care for the sick, and when needed, they would be extra labor around the farm. Women first started to work in large numbers during the industrial revolution, mainly in the textile industry. Since then, most women have gone into the workforce. Today a family cannot survive on the wages of the man alone. However, even though women are needed to work, they still do not make as much as men. There are still inequalities between men and women, and there is still a large wage gap. Women today make about eighty cents on the dollar that a man makes. Some careers have a higher wage gap, and the careers that are dominated mainly by women, like nursing, have a more equal wage to men. The mortuary science field is not different than the other careers. Women are not currently dominating this field, so they are not paid as much as men are. Women have faced bias through history, and women in the mortuary science field still face it today. There are many different reasons bias remains in this industry. One reason is that women are thought of as not being strong enough to physically lift the dead. However, women can be as strong as any man, and if not they will find a way to complete the job. Another reason there is bia, is because women are thought of as emotional. With ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Tobacco Liability in Illnesses and Deaths Smoking has been around for quite some time now, dating back farther than 1492. On October 29, 1492, two of Christopher Columbus s crew members, Rodrigo de Jerez and Luis de Torres, were the first two Europeans to try smoking tobacco offered to them by the Native Indians (Marcovitz 14). Tobacco companies will lose revenue and may vanish as one of the oldest and wealthiest industries in America because of frivolous liability lawsuits and competition from companies producing other tobacco related products. In the future, tobacco products are more likely to vanish in time because of the addiction and diseases that smoking can cause. Many smokeless tobacco users have said that it is harder to quit snuff and chewing tobacco, and that it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Seventeen days later, he arrived in Cuba and met more Native Indians, this time they were smoking the tobacco and when two of Columbus s crew members, Rodrigo de Jerez and Luis de Torres, were the first Europeans to try smoking tobacco (Marcovitz 14). Not only was Rodrigo and Luis the first Europeans to try smoking, they were also the first European chain smokers, people who smoke cigarettes daily (Marcovitz 14 15). Columbus was not the only explorer to have been around the Native Indians while they were smoking tobacco. Other explorers witnessed the Native Indians rolling the tobacco into tight cylinders and then catching the tobacco on fire and inhaling the smoke fumes produced from it (Marcovitz 15). Those explorers were eager to show the new habit they learned to their home countries and in 1518, Hernan Cortes had returned to Spain, introducing them to the habit with a cargo of tobacco (Marcovitz 15). In 1556, smoking was introduced to the French by Andre Thevet, a monk who had picked up the habit in Brazil while on an expedition (Marcovitz 15). From the 1560 s to the 1580s, several English explorers such as Sir Francis Drake and Sir Walter Raleigh had brought tobacco to England, since most Americans brought tobacco to Europeans, Europeans looked to America to help feed their bad habits (Marcovitz 15). According to American Government: Roots and Reform federal bureaucracy is defined as the thousands of federal government agencies and institutions that implement and administer federal laws and programs. When the bureaucracy was first created it contained only three small departments; State, Treasury, and War. Over time the Executive branch and bureaucracy have grown significantly, now employing over three million people. This began with people getting fed up with the dismal living situations of the early 20th century. • 10. The Argument of Dualism Essay In my mind, dualism is a more attractive view to take when considering the mind brain issue. The idea that the mind is a separate entity and that it is independent of the physical body is the central point of dualism. One reason it appeals to me is because of my religion, my Catholic upbringing. Introspection is another good reason why dualism is a little more logical to me than materialism.. It logically explains why the mind and brain are separate. Also, the divisibility argument raises good points to allow dualism to appear to be the more attractive idea in my eyes. Dualism claims that the mind is a distinct nonphysical thing, a complete entity that is independent of any physical body to which it is temporarily attached. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sure the brain has the actual chemical processes and functions, but the mind holds the reasoning behinds actions, and the complex feelings a person has. It is basically what makes a person who he is, and controls his actions as a person. The brain only tells the body to carry out these actions. I think that introspection is another good explanation for dualism being more attractive to me. Introspection was explained to be a sort of mental state, like when you know you have a desire for something to eat. If this occurs, one?s mind will tell his brain to make the body get up and get food to eat. I do not think that the brain is capable of having that feeling of hunger, there might be a reaction in the brain to the stomach being empty, but I believe the actual feeling is in the brain. A person has no way of knowing the actual brain process, it can not be felt. That is an act that can only take place in one?s mind. The actual wanting of food is going to be happening in the mind, not the brain. I think my mind is the focal point of desires and other feelings, the brain is just a device which the mind uses to carry out its wishes. A third argument for dualism is paranormal phenomena. Mental powers such as telepathy, precognition, telekinesis, and clairvoyance are all near impossible to explain within the boundaries of the physical brain. These phenomena reflect the nonphysical and supernatural nature ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Police Misconduct On The Street Still Continue Throughout... Over the years, law enforcement has been involved in many of unethical events that caused the community to lose trust in them. There are many of reasons why it is difficult for the police to have interaction with the citizens of the community. One reason the community do not trust the police is because of racial profiling. Racial profiling has been going on for years and now the community is getting tired of it. An example of racial profiling is a group of black teenagers being pulled over because of the kind of car they are driving. Along with this act and many of other police corruption acts has caused the community to question themselves about law enforcement. Many of concerns about police misconduct on the street still continue throughout the community. Cities across the globe have experienced intense altercations stemming from deadly shootings of citizens and allegations of excessive use of force. Police are sworn in to Protect and Serve everyone in the community no matter what race they are. Less than a week after Katrina hit New Orleans on September 4, 2005, police executed 40 year old Ronald Madison and 17 year old James Brissette and injured four others. Five of the New Orleans covered up the corruption by lying saying that people was shooting when they arrived at the scene. • 12. Essay on John D. Rockefeller Jessica M. Hintermeister American History Louisa Garry Due: Thursday, March 15, 2001 The Rockefellers feared the temptations of wealth, yet a visitor once described their estate as the kind of place God would have built if only he d had the money. They amassed a fortune that outraged a Democratic nation, then gave it all away reshaping America. They were the closest thing the country had to a royal family, but the Rockefellers shunned the public eye. For decades, the Rockefeller name was despised in America, associated with John D. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Oil was being used to grease the wheels of America s infant industries, to fuel the expansion of growth. Rockefeller lamented that so many wells were flowing that the price of oil kept falling yet everyone went right on drilling. He saw an industry plagued from overproduction and his own success was being threatened by ruinness cut throat competition. John D. was shrewd enough and he was analytical enough that he realized that in order to figure out a way to save his own firm and his own newly won fortune, that he had to figure out a solution for the entire industry. It was at that point that John D. began to conceive of the oil industry as one big interrelated mechanism. And you couldn t just change one component, you had to control the entire machine. In a move that would transform the American economy, Rockefeller set out to replace a world of independent oilmen with a giant company controlled by him. In l870, begging bankers for more loans, he formed Standard Oil of Ohio. The next year, he quietly put what he called our plan his campaign to dominate the volatile oil industry into devastating effect. Shooting became just like drinking a glass of water (Barnett, 2012). Ishmael Beah, the main character and writer of the novel A Long Way Gone is a clear example of the loss of innocence that war causes. During the Sierra Leone s civil war, Beah is recruited as a child soldier and eventually turned into a cold blooded killer with no sign of naivety in his body. At a tender age, Beah is trained to kill, mutilate and terrify dozens of people, which causes him to be bared to a flood of disturbing scenes; transform into a murderer; loose all sense of emotion; and in time, lose his innocence. She states that people have lost the skills for interacting face to face because they prefer to text or email each other. In the text, the author spent over fifteen years studying people and asking them about their lives. She also found that cellphones have changed what people do and who they are. • 15. Summary Of Blink By Malcolm Gladwell Blink In Chapter 2 of Blink by Malcolm Gladwell, Gladwell insist that what we think of as freewill is largely an illusion: much of the time, we are simply operating on automatic pilot, and the way we think and act and how we think and act on the spur of the moment are a lot more susceptible to outside influences than we realize. (58). Gladwell is referring to priming, as human beings, our behavior and decision making are often influenced by subtle triggers we are either aware of or not aware of. As humans we are vulnerable to the most subtle stimuli. Gladwell provides examples of priming with different types of exams and games administered to college students. An area where priming occurs on a daily occurrence is at the grocery store because the products sold are strategically placed on the shelves to target a specific audience company s want to sell their product to, the price tag are designed with colors that we associates subconsciously with spending, and there are signs located all around the store that tell you that you ll be saving money so that you buy more of that certain product or so you are more likely to shop at that particular store. Priming is when subtle triggers we are either aware of or not aware of influence our behavior. Gladwell has the reader imagine that he is a professor proctoring a scrambled sentence test where students were asked to walk down a long hallway into an exam room where they were given an exam with a list of five word sets and asked to change each word set into a grammatically four word sentence as fast as possible. The test was not difficult but the college students walked down the hallway more slowly than they walked towards the classroom. This is because ingrained in the list were certain words that were associated with being old. This test, which was developed by a clever psychologist named John Bargh, makes our adaptive unconsciousness ponder about the state of being old. Further research suggests that individuals can be primed to behave differently, various words may be used to influence people to be polite or rude. Malcolm Gladwell demonstrates how a simple scramble sentence test challenges your sub consciousness into believing that you are much older by simply ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Restoration In Louisiana The New York Times article, Left to Louisiana s Tides, a Village Fights For Time, discusses the plight of Jean Lafitte, a town of seven thousand people located two miles below the levee protecting New Orleans. A fourth of Louisiana s wetlands have been lost, much of which is due to intense hurricanes from 2005 to 2008. It is estimated that a football field worth of wetland disappears every 100 minutes and that in 200 years the wetlands will be completely gone. This degradation is due to climate change and human intervention in the area in pursuit of oil and farmland and in the creation of levees. Oliver A. Houck, a Tulane professor quoted in the article, claims, It is the largest ecological catastrophe in North America since the Dust Bowl. Under the principle of stewardship, we understand that the poor are affected first and worst, which is clearly seen in coastal Louisiana. Not only are the poor affected more because they often live on the front lines of environmental decay but also because, as a culture, we rush to protect more affluent communities first. Economic Impacts of American Fast Food upon Developing Countries Amanda Lee Arkansas School for Mathematics, Sciences, and the Arts Introduction Developments leading up to the 21st century are best characterized by the economic advancements found in countries all over the world. Regardless of the level of these advancements in a country, achieving higher living standards, financial stability, and overall growth of the economy are the perpetual goals for a country. Because every country is unique in terms of their economic, political, and social standings, different methods in order to obtain these goals are to be considered. However, the basic principles for achieving these goals seem to follow the trends of globalization: investment, technological improvements, secure institutions, and a market economy. Countries that benefit the most from globalization are found to be of high growth. The integration of a global economy in a country has prompted entrepreneurs to regard the world as one market in the form of franchising. With that being said, economic success can measure the effects of Western commercial globalization from the results of American fast food franchise. Innovations in technology and society have eradicated the difficulties with communication between different populations. It is in this domination that the fragility of the masculine condition is recognized, conceptually the natural philosophy relies on incessant validation through the means of domination. With a knife. With a little knife that hardly fits into the hand; but which nearly enters the astonished flesh and stood at the place where lies trembling, enmeshed, the dark root of the scream. Over the flower of gold, filthy sand. (Lorca 61) The image created by the comparison of the men s eyes to torn flowers and the bride covered in blood is savage in nature and it comments on violence becoming an institutionalized form of resolving conflict between males. Lorca further demonstrates this through the use of language associated with the confrontation of Leonardo and the bridegroom, that s right. The greatest hunt there ever was. They were the last people you d expect to be involved in anything strange or mysterious, because they just didn t hold with such nonsense. Mr. Dursley was the director of a firm called Grunnings, which made drills. He was a big, beefy man with hardly any neck, although he did have a very large mustache. Mrs. Dursley was thin and blonde and had nearly twice the usual amount of neck, which came in very useful as she spent so much of her time craning over garden fences, spying on the neighbors. Mrs. Potter was Mrs. Dursley s sister, but they hadn t met for several years; in fact, Mrs. Dursley pretended she didn t have a sister, because her sister and her good for nothing husband were as unDursleyish as it was possible to be. The Dursleys shuddered to think what the neighbors would say if the Potters arrived in the street. The Dursleys knew that the Potters had a small son, too, but they had never even seen him. This boy was another good reason for keeping the Potters away; they didn t want Dudley mixing with a child like that. When Mr. and Mrs. Dursley woke up on the dull, gray Tuesday our story starts, there was nothing about the cloudy sky outside to suggest that strange and mysterious things would soon be happening all over the country. Mr. Dursley hummed as he picked out his most boring tie for work, and Mrs. Dursley gossiped away happily as she wrestled a screaming Dudley into his high chair. None of them noticed a large, tawny owl flutter past the window. • 35. The Importance Of Maintaining The Correct Acid Base Balance The importance of maintain the correct acid base balance in the body is crucial for a healthy lifestyle. Human bodies are very sensitive to pH levels and must be maintained to prevent any health issues. The term pH means potentials oh hydrogen. To function properly our blood pH is regulated at 7.4. The degree of acidity or alkalinity is referred to as the acid base balance. The acidity levels increase when the acidic compounds in the blood increase of the alkaline compounds in the blood fall. Alkalinity increases when the reverse occurs. The levels of alkaline and acidic compounds depend on the body s intake, production or decreased elimination or vice versa. If the pH rises or falls increasingly the body s proteins and enzymes can denature and stop functioning. This can cause serious diseases such as cancers or even death. Therefore, our body has essential mechanisms in place to regulate the pH of our blood. Regulating acid base balance: The main functions of the body that deal with maintaining acid base balance are the buffer, renal and respiratory systems. Buffer System: Normal metabolism produces hydrogen in the form of acids; to maintain the pH of the blood the acids are buffered or removed from the body. A buffer works in a pair, a weak acid is activated when the pH is at risk from a strong base/ a weak base is activated when the pH is at risk from a strong acid. • 37. Learnability of a Language Essay Learnability of a Language I. A child must achieve competence with an infinite language based on a finite number of heard sentences. This is the essence of Noam Chomsky s poverty of the stimulus argument. As originally presented, it made a case for nativism, forcing empiricist theories to explain how such competence is achievable. In Stephen Pinker s Language Learnability and Language Development, he uses learnability both as a challenge to theories of language acquisition, and as a heuristic for evaluating them. Terrence Deacon, in The Symbolic Species, while dismissive of most of Chomskyan linguistics, still sees the learnability problem as a challenge to any theory that hopes to explain human linguistic knowledge. These two constraints strongly limit the context freeness of language. By doing so, only a finite number of sentences at a certain level of nesting are allowed; after enough time, the learner can conclude that all unseen sentences of that depth are ungrammatical. These strong constraints are not arbitrary: Wexler and Culicover found that most proposed transformations fit the two conditions. Also, Chomsky independently concluded from examining linguistic data that a similar process, the subjacency principle, was operating (Pinker 1979). Pinker, too, concludes that the scope of possible languages is limited: Children acquire language by exploiting rich formal and substantive constraints on the types of rules that languages may have...[the child] entertains a small subset of the hypotheses consistent with the data (1984, p. 358). Pinker concludes that constraints, including word order and phrase structure geometry (e.g. subjacency) aid the learning of grammars (1984, p. 358). Symbolism In Tennessee William s The Glass Menagerie Symbolism is a major aspect in Tennessee William s famous play, The Glass Menagerie. On the surface, the short slice of life story seems to be simple. However, if the reader digs deeper they will find that there are several symbols that give the play a deeper meaning. Each character defines each symbol in a different way. Aside from character symbols, there is overall symbolism in this play. It is set in a memory, so it creates a soft, dream like setting. Mark Pagel in his Ted talk, How language transformed humanity (ted.com) described how language gives us the power to change the world as follows: I m talking about your language, of course, because it allows you to implant a thought from your mind directly into someone else s mind . Ultimately, language gives every one of us the power to effect change by using our knowledge and opinions to influence others and the way we see the world. This is what the politicians and the media in our society seek to do every day. The broader our knowledge of language and the subtleties of language in our different spheres (home, work, society and planet), the more broadly we can effect change. If a mark of affection can sometimes be taken for an insult, perhaps the gesture of love is not universal: it too must be translated from one language to another, must be learned. In the story, Christian travels out of the city only to find that the path is almost as treacherous as the city itself. First he falls into the Bog named the Slough of Despond. The Slough is not only very hard to see, but the way though the bog is hidden from all travelers. In the Story, Help describes the slough as being desolate because of the fears, doubts, and discouraging apprehensions that come to a sinner who is enlightened (Bunyan 23). John Bunyan clearly illustrates a path that is hard to follow because leaving sin is one of the hardest things to do. Bunyan confirms that he believes that sin is hard to leave by telling us of his early hardships with temptations. The temptations of sin became so overwhelming that Bunyan felt like selling his soul to the devil and after trying to say no he gave into Satan (Abrams 2134 2137). Then later in the Journey to the Cross, Bunyan also uses the character named World to describe the many other hardships that come along the trail. Thou art like to meet with in the way which thou goest wearisomeness, painfulness, hunger, perils, nakedness, sword, lions, dragons, darkness and in a word, death and what not? (Bunyan 25). Among adolescents the vast majority of the research has identified five major risk factors associated with adolescent marijuana use, family relations (parent child attachment), peer associations, substance abuse programs, gender, and race. Some researchers have found that the family is the best predictor of adolescent marijuana use, while others claim that peer associations are predictors of adolescent marijuana use. Others believe that substance abuse programs are the key to deterring adolescent drug use. The final groups of researchers believe gender and race are the underlining predictors. The following studies will give a quick overview of the prior research on risk factors and adolescent marijuana use. Parent Child Attachment According to Hoffmann (1993) adolescents who suffer from a parental death or divorce are likely to turn to marijuana to help cope with the stress that has been created.
