On the 8th of August 2014 the World Health Organisation declared the current outbreak of Ebolavirus
to be an international health emergency. This epidemic is the largest ever seen of the disease, and is
located in West Africa particularly in Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone. At present it has led to over
5,000 deaths, with more than 14,000 people having been infected.
Ebola virus disease (EVD) has been portrayed by some as a major threat to health outside of West
Africa, though this is disputed. There is currently no fully tested prophylaxis nor treatment available,
and the disease has a relatively high case fatality rate. The combination of these factors has resulted in
the disease being prominently discussed in the media around the world, and has generated a large
amount of public interest. The question we are addressing is what would possibly lead to an outbreak
in Europe, and discussing the controls and surveillance presently employed.
Background of the virus
EVD is a disease predominantly affecting humans and other primates. It is caused by members of the
Ebolavirus genus in the Filoviridae family, which are single stranded RNA viruses. There are five
species of Ebolavirus, with the current outbreak being caused by Zaire Ebolavirus (ZEBV). The
different species vary in their fatality rates and geographical distributions (2).

Learning Disposition And Analysis
This first assignment will be explaining my learning disposition and personal experiences of education
and learning prior to starting at Sheffield Hallam University. This will focus on my different
experiences and memories of education before starting my course, I will also relate any experiences to

Reflecting back at this I never wanted to do nursing, I feel I only made this decision because it is what
my mother wanted to do this when she was younger. This could relate to Bandura s theory of social
learning, this because even though Bandura believed classical and operate condition contributed
towards social learning, he also believed two other factors effected this, which are imitation and
identification (Learning theories in childhood, Gray,C). This relates to me and my college degree as I
identified myself with my Mother and imitated her dreams and behaviours. Going into college I went
in with a fixed mind set, (Dweck, 1998). This is because I did not really want to do nursing in the
future, felt like I couldn t learn anything, believed I was smart enough to do it and was also facing
some mental problems at the time. At this period of education I did not attend many of my lessons and
I had no motivation to learn. This strongly related to Carr and Claxton (1995). Claxon (1995) believed
you had to be ready, willing, and able to learn and at that time in my life, I was not. According to
Perkins et al (1995) Dispositions are based in the belief systems, values and attitudes as equally as it is
in your cognitive structure . As well as this disposition is linked with the idea of our possible selves
and at the time I was not mentally in the right place, meaning this effected what my idea of myself
actually was. To link this in with my college experience, at the time my idea of my self was that I was
worthless therefore I believed I was worthless and did not believe I could make it through college.
This could have also related back to my experiences in primary school ( mentioned in the essay
earlier) due to not feeling good enough. This could have contributed to me later dropping out. This

American History X Almost one week before I started to take this class, I watched American History
X for the first time. When I learned we are going to do this project, this movie was on my mind and I
did not surprise at all when I saw it in our movie list. Since the beginning of the semester, everything
related to multiculturalism in this movie is becoming clearer to me. Multiculturalism is a huge issue,
especially the country like the US which has many different races. One of the first things I learned
about multiculturalism is; it can be both negative or positive ways. If the different races do not accept
each other, it can be interpreted in a negative way. This movie is a great example of showing the
negative way of the multiculturalism. I see a really big conflict between races in the movie. American
History X is a 1998 American crime drama film which directed by Tony Kaye and written by David
McKenna. Edward Norton is the lead actor as Derek. Even though he is one of my favorite actors, I
never had a chance to watch this movie before. After I watched his tremendous performance in this
movie, I understand why the Academy nominated him the second time for the best actor award. One
interesting fact about the movie, even though it is about multicultural issues in the US, we see
everything from a white point of view. As a result, Academy chooses a white actor as nominee for the
