the needs of the U.S. population are called welfare subsidies. Federal social programs were first
proposed with Theodore Roosevelt s New Nationalism, and expanded during the Wilson, Roosevelt,
and Johnson Administrations. There are eighty three overlapping federal programs which vary in
eligibility requirements. They help provide food, shelter, healthcare, education and money to
American citizens. These services are provided through primary and secondary education, subsidies of
college education, pensions for eligible persons, subsidies for eligible low wage workers, subsidies for
housing, unemployment disability insurance, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits,
subsidies for housing, and health insurance programs that cover public employees. The largest and

To achieve the research aim both methods of interviewing and surveying will be employed. To
complete the first objective doctors will be interviewed in order to assess how they justify using
therapeutic privilege and what influence their medical experience has. In terms of the second objective
previous patients will be surveyed on their opinions of not giving fully informed consent and what
effect they would expect to experience if the therapeutic privilege was used.

I propose to interview eight doctors to obtain their personal opinions on therapeutic privilege. In

The Lab Must Stay Clean And Sterile
Laboratories across the United States have many different ways of operating in order to collect
sufficient and precise data and make adequate conclusions. In order for a laboratory to run smoothly
and collect good data, the lab must stay clean and sterile. Through Dr. Williams section of LB 133,
Introduction to History, Philosophy and Sociology of Science, I had the opportunity to complete a two
hour non participant, unstructured, naturalistic observation at the MSU DOE Plant Research
Laboratory. After extensive research of multiple laboratories hosting studies on Michigan State
University campus, the laboratory I chose was Dr. Christoph Benning s plant lipid research laboratory
study. Benning s lab had a strong tie to the STS concept of good data.
Shortly after emailing him about observing the lab, he connected me with a graduate student name
Anastasiya. With her help, I was able to take a tour of the plant laboratory; and observe her conduct
parts of the laboratory work, as well as collect data. When I observed this lab, I did not participate at
all and did not affect the results in any way. In order to gain information, I used techniques such as
note taking, asking extensive questions, and drawing a sketch of the lab. In order to understand the
steps that were taking place, quickly I realized, that extensive note taking on everything that I could
see, smell, hear, and touch, was an adequate way to gain knowledge about the laboratory. I watched

Hearing impairment results in a considerable degree of impact in education, occupation and other
aspects in life. Because of lacking normal hearing as an important way to absorb information from the
outside world, communication usually become frustrated for hearing impaired students when interact

between language, attention and behavioral problem. It pointed out that, language plays an important

behavior problems. Thus, to alleviate or prevent the behavior problem in children with SPHL, SLP
should also focus on their sustained attention at the same time to improving their regulatory skills.

learn how to understand a few important subjects and be able to decipher unique situations rather than

In 2015 Hollywood Diversity Report: Flipping the Script, Drs. Darnell Hunt and Ana Christina Ramon
takes a hard look at the statistics of women of color involved on television, in movies, and behind the
scenes. In 2013, cable scripted television programs had approximately 62.9% lead male roles and
37.1% female lead roles of that 80.7% of lead female roles were white and 19.3% were Asian, Latino,
Indian, and black women of color a slight increase of 4.6% since 2012. It was in 2012 that women
held the most female leads in the history of film: 30.8% of these 15.1% were women of color;
however, in 2013, the percentage of female leads dropped to 25.3% while increasing in minority roles

The Library For Books And Reading Were Prevalent
After multiple visits to the library to observe and interview, underlying themes of love for books and
reading were prevalent. When interviewing my librarian informant many times she said she loved to
read and loved books. The job of a librarian suited her perfectly. While on tour with her, I notice the
care other employees took while handling books as well, they would sort them gently and with gloved
hands re shelve them carefully as if handling a glass vase. When asked what they did after hours or for
fun, a few stated they just read. I have my focus group scheduled for this week and most likely will
get similar responses. Also the theme of the modern library relying heavily on technology was
reoccurring. From automated book check outs to security tags, to librarians running computerized
queries to find a book s statistics: frequency of check out, popularity and if it should still be offered at
the library. The librarians use computers and technology in almost all the request they get to assist
patrons. From when a book is out, to when something new will be available, to when a book should be
back in the library or if it is available online.
I will need to collect some follow up data and the data provided from the focus group should solidify
most of my findings. I would also like to see if all focus group members have the same respect for
books and reading or if I can pick up that this is only a job/paycheck for them. I just finished the

Studying The Taming of the Shrew through performance led me to understand the power of language
and importance of speech. [The play was a comedy, so I had a lot of fun with Petruchio s outspoken

In the critical essay On the Scarlet Letter , by D.H Lawrence, Lawrence analyzes the character Hester
Prynne from the novel The Scarlet Letter , and how her life is portrayed. According to Lawrence,
Hester is not worthy of the praise she is given by Nathaniel Hawthorne. D.H. Lawrence uses the
techniques of repetition, compact syntax and biblical allusions to effectively convey his negative
attitudes towards Hester Prynne. Lawrence uses the repetition of certain words to drill them into the
reader s mind. The continuous use of the phrase A. Adulteress! throughout the essay reinforces Hester
s sin, and reminds the reader that she is a sinner, rather than someone worthy of praise (Lawrence).
This repetition resembles the physical scarlet letter, in the sense that D.H. Lawrence is shaming Hester
over and over again, similar to how the Puritans shamed Hester throughout her life. Moreover, the
name of the object that was pinned to Hester s breast, The Scarlet Letter is also repeated throughout
Lawrence s essay (Lawrence). By using this phrase, Hester is reduced to her sin, stripping away all of
her good deeds, because the emphasis is placed on her sinful actions rather than her personal qualities
and life after the sin, which does not give the reader a chance to focus on any positive qualities Hester
possesses. In addition, the scarlet letter holds the negative connotations of sin, punishment and
adultery. By repeating Scarlet Letter , the reader s mind is filled with these negative connotations, thus
reiterating Lawrence s opinion that Hester is the source of evil and her actions should not have been
glorified. Lawrence s repetition of these phrases reinforces Hester s sin and shameful actions, which
effectively conveys his dismissive feelings towards Hester. The use of compact syntax highlights
Lawrence s disapproval of Hester Prynne by abruptly and continuously shooting her down. The
concise sentence Adulteress. Alpha. Abel, Adam. A. America shoots at Hester with negative words
(Lawrence). This rapid fire structure effectively degrades Hester as each word delivers an individual
blow to her character and degrades her, by restating her sin, the letter A which
