Why Rumor Is Defined By The New York Stock Exchange
Rumor is defined by the Oxford English Dictionary as an unverified or unconfirmed statement or
report circulating in a community. In the financial community, rumors have an effect on the direction
of markets. The New York Stock Exchange in the United States is the epitome of how rumors can
impact trade. The fluctuation of stock and commodity (raw material) prices on a daily basis is, in part,
due to the daily news cycle. Although reports by news companies are supposed to be factual,
statements made can be unverified. Because of the large scale of social media, anyone can make up
rumors that can go viral. Stock traders rely on the news to determine what stocks they will buy or sell.
News reports include important information such as: new product developments, company
restructures, commodity reports, and scandals. Because of the rapid news, trading on the stock market
happens very fast and it gets chaotic. As the buyers and sellers interact their process sets the stock
price. The news effects the stock price because if a positive story circulates, there will be more buyers
for a stock, which will raise the stock price; if a negative story circulates, there will be fewer buyers,
which will lower the stock price. This constant process can either earn a big payday or be a total loss.
Because of the money that people stand to either make or loose, rumors have an effect on the way
individuals behave on the stock market.
To better understand how rumors work within the financial

The Missouri Constitution
Exam 1 1) Missouri?s unitary form of government means that there is one dominant government that
has power over all the political subdivisions. Missouri?s subdivisions were created by the dominant
government and the subdivisions are only as powerful as the dominant government allows them to be.
Missouri?s dominant government would be the state government as it is the most powerful over
Missouri?s local governments. Missouri is also part of a federal system which means that the powers
are distributed by the U.S. Constitution among the national and state governments. Missouri?s state
government?s power is outlined by the U.S. Constitution. These powers include reserved powers,

War Of The Worlds Conflict
The War of the Worlds is a fictional novel written by H.G Wells in the year 1898. It was one of the
first stories that shows a scenario of conflict between the human race and extraterrestrials. It was
published by Dover Publications, Inc with a copyright date set in 1997. The book has 145 pages.
The story takes place in London, England in the final years of the 19th century. The conflict is
external(man vs man) and towards the end of the story, becomes internal(man vs self). All is normal in
London when a missile is seen flying through space with its origins from Mars. Before we know it,
Martians are wreaking havoc throughout London. Later the main character starts to think of the future
for the human race, and struggles with his sanity. We ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the most important and critical decisions made was the martian s decision to get rid of bacteria
on their planet thousands of years before. Doing this, their bodies had no need for a resistance against
bacteria. This made the martians very susceptible and vulnerable to disease and viruses contracted
from Earth. Humans have gained a strong resistance over millions of years, because bacteria and
disease has been around since the beginning of time. these germs of disease have taken poll of
humanity since the beginning of things taken tool of our pre human ancestors since life began here.
But by virtue of this natural selection of our kind we have developed resisting power; to no germs do
we succumb without a struggle, and to many does that cause putrefaction in that matter, for instance
our living frames are altogether immune. But there are no bacteria on Mars... (Wells 137). If the
martians had been prepared for this situation, Earth surely would have been doomed, and under
control of the martian pioneers.
Wells truly was one of the most creative writers of his time. In the late 1800s there were no other
writings of extraterrestrials like this one. This book really makes the reader begin to wonder about the
mysteries of life in space, and if humans really are the top of the food chain. Especially during the
time it was written in. This book is every science fiction lover s dream. It shows the possibility of

Columbus Day Significance
As Columbus Day approaches, it is important to remember the significance of the holiday to different
ethnic groups in United States. I can never remember where Columbus is from. Now I know it is not
only an error of my memory, but also Columbus own pan European mercenary identity. I knew that
Columbus legacy is a controversial one, but until I listened to the podcast, I did not know how much
he meant to the Italian and Irish communities. I never thought Columbus being a Catholic would be of
use to anything besides appeasing Queen Isabella, It s interesting how the immigrants of the United
States embraced the legacy of Columbus and thought of him as a founding father of sorts.
In his journals, he mentions finding a land we now know as the eastern edge of the Bahamas. He not
only writes about how peaceful the land is and the apparent use of tobacco, but makes a disturbing
reference to upcoming slave trade. It was chilling to think about how big the Atlantic Slave Trade
would become after Columbus writes this. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

This lab report looks how blood lactate levels are affected during an incremental cycle test with an
oxygen restriction mask and without an oxygen restriction mask. Blood lactate is lactic acid that
appears in the blood due aerobic and anaerobic training. Billat et.al (2003) states that during a
moderate cycling exercise performed during 30 50 minutes, 20% of glucose utilisation went to lactate
formation, 20% of the blood lactate appearance came from glucose. Furthermore Billat et.al (2003)

The Toll Left by Hurracens Katrina and Hugo
Over the past few centuries, the natural disaster of hurricanes has had a huge impact on the land
around us. It could cost millions, or even billions of dollars in repairing the damages done by
hurricanes. These natural disasters can not only result in property damage but also many lives lost and
injured victims. Hurricanes usually leave many without homes, forcing victims to find shelters or
relocate to a different city or state for safety. A hurricane is a violent, tropical, cyclonic storm with
sustained winds of at least 64 knots (74 miles per hour: 119 kilometers per hour) that are extremely
large, powerful, and destructive. Hurricanes usually start to occur over large areas of warm water, such
as the Atlantic Ocean. They generally form during the hotter months due to the fact that it gets energy
from the heat off the water.
One of the major hurricanes that made headline news was Hurricane Katrina. It was said that
Hurricane Katrina was one of the most deadliest hurricanes to ever hit the United States. The damages
done by Katrina was absolutely devastating. Costing at about an estimated $75 million dollars in
repairs, Hurricane Katrina is one of the most costliest hurricanes in the history of U.S. hurricanes. The
disaster lasted about eight days, starting on August 23rd and ending on August 31st of 2005. On
August 28th, 2005, the tropical storm turned into a category five hurricane with winds of 175 miles
per hour. The storm took away the lives of approximately 2,000

Relationships With The Mandans By Thomas Jefferson
Relationships with the Mandans
Thomas Jefferson had just expanded the United States territory immensely. This purchase was known
as the Louisiana Purchase, which is arguably the best decision in US history. All the new land resulted
in several unknown questions. Some of them were, what does this land provide, what animals are out
there, who can be found on this land? To answer some of these mysterious questions Jefferson sent
Meriwether Lewis and William Clark to explore the Louisiana Purchase. They also were sent to form
learn and form relationships with the people all ready on the land they are about to explore. One of
their stops on their journey was at what now is known as Fort Mandan, in Bismarck, North Dakota.
Here is where Lewis and Clark s relationship with the Mandan tribe was crucial because their next
steps have never been explored by whites. Only the Indians knew what the land looked like from
North Dakota to the Pacific Ocean. The Mandan tribe was able to show the explorers areas of the land
that was just bought by the United States of America. Between both the white explorers and the
Mandan tribe they both benefited from their relationships they formed over the winter months of 1804
because Lewis and Clark did not anticipate spending the winter in North Dakota.
Seasons have changed and the Missouri river was starting to freeze over; this caused Lewis and Clarks
exploration to halt for the winter. The explorers were able to find a camping site on the North

Advantage Of Milk Frothers
Is there a better way to start one morning than with a freshly brewed cup of coffee? Having coffee in
the morning is the routine of millions of people around the world. The reason is very simple: it helps
you wake up, clear your thoughts and prepare for the next busy day. Real coffee lovers like to make
coffee for themselves.
Wait for the water or milk to boil, add the correct amount of coffee and sugar, making the perfect froth
pleasant at first sip. For all coffee addicts, we have tested and reviewed five milk frothers to help you

By making the bubbles in the milk, the capacity increases and the feelings become clearer. The result
of the use of milk froth is a strong and sparkling coffee with an intense flavor.
Benefits of Milk Frother
There are few advantages of milk frothers. The most obvious is its size. They are usually about thirty
centimeters long so they can be stored anywhere in the kitchen. That is very important because many
do not have kitchens as spacious or enough storage place.
Because milk frothers are usually made of plastic, they are very light. That means that they are
comfortable to use. Also, some foam models come with a glass of beakers. In that case, your only job
is to press the button to activate it.
Frothers are easy to use. Typically, you have the on/off button and the button to adjust the speed of the
skimmers. That is very convenient because you can use the frother at the time you bought it without
first reading the instructions or seeing online tutorials.
Milk frothers are significantly removed and then regular coffee makers. The skimmers are silent when
they are in operation, so you should not worry about the noise.

AP Government and Politics, Period 2
March 28, 2015
Should Welfare Subsidies be limited to only the Social Security System? Social programs for aiding
the needs of the U.S. population are called welfare subsidies. Federal social programs were first
proposed with Theodore Roosevelt s New Nationalism, and expanded during the Wilson, Roosevelt,
and Johnson Administrations. There are eighty three overlapping federal programs which vary in
eligibility requirements. They help provide food, shelter, healthcare, education and money to
American citizens. These services are provided through primary and secondary education, subsidies of
college education, pensions for eligible persons, subsidies for eligible low wage workers, subsidies for
housing, unemployment disability insurance, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits,
subsidies for housing, and health insurance programs that cover public employees. The largest and
most prominent welfare subsidy is the Social Security Program and the second largest is Medicare.
Aside from Medicare and Social Security, Congress allocated $717 billion to welfare subsidies in
2010. That same year, states allocated $210 billion. The total allocations for Social Security and
Medicare were $1.3 trillion in 2013, which was 37% of the total Federal expenditure budget of $3.684
trillion. Aside from government welfare programs, private welfare is about 1.6 trillion, about ten
percent of the total US GDP. As part of the

Illegal Online Music Downloading, The Effects And...
The internet is one of the greatest significant important inventions of this century. It has become the
biggest data foundation to receive all kinds of information, particularly educational knowledge and
skills. Downloads are needed in order to receive data from computer networks which are remote
system, typically a server. Copyrighted content needs to have appropriate permission to download it
and without this permission it could constitute copyright infringement. According to Towers (2009),
the internet or on line piracy generally refers sharing over the internet copies of works that are not
authorised or illegal downloading of software, movies, videogames and music. Illicit downloads
started through hacked computers, file sharing networks, illegal servers and website (Plowman, 2009).
Hard goods pirates are selling illegal duplicated DVDs through online websites. Copyrighted works
are through Internet chat rooms, newsgroups and peer to peer file trading networks. All of these kinds
of internet copyright infringement are a crime that should be punished by law. This essay will discuss
illegal online music downloading, the effects and consequences on the music industry and artists, after
that it will introduce two solutions including the law in relation to this issue. Finally, an evaluation of

Humanistic Theory In The Next Karate Kid
In the movie The Next Karate Kid , we are intoduced to Julie a emotional struggling teenager looking
to become her own person after feeling abandoned by her now deceased parents; who died in a fatal
car accident. Mentally becoming a tyrant and a burden to her grandmother is taken on a journey with a
family friend Mr. Miyagi, to set her on the right path by using karate to transform her anger into
something positive.
Julies adventure into learning karate starts after Mr. Miyagi witnesses her avoiding getting hit by a car
by jumping onto it s hood in a tiger jump. This is a form of latent learning. Julie had been previously
taught karate by her father before his passing. Latent learning is described as learning that is hidden or
concealed until motivated or triggered ( Psych Rathus, S.A., pg 127). The sequence of events triggered
her response to avoiding the car. Mr. Miyagi saw this as being a great opportunity to harvest her
aggression, by utilizing a skill to calm her. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Humanistic theory can be seen throughout this movie; as Julie strives to become who she is
capable of being. In Psych , Rathus, S.A., this is decribed as self actulalization. When Julie returns to

school faternity known as the Alpha Elite . Julie is somewhat transformed in this phase of the movie as
she has become more gentle; and the monks and Mr. Miyagi take it upon themselves to purchase her a
prom gown. This is the point when Julie recognizes her beauty and feminity. Later that night as she
stands up to the Alpha Elite in a battle she demonstrates her skills leading to another point of self

Analysis of the Triumph of Divine Love
The art piece that I selected for my analysis is called The Triumph of Divine Love by Peter Paul
Rubens. The artwork is an oil painting on canvas, circa 1625. This piece of art was commission by
Isabella Clara Eugenia, Infanta of Spain and Portugal. The Triumph of Divine Love was one of eleven
art pieces in a series portraying the Eucharist cycle, an important issue in the Catholic Protestant strife.
Its purpose was to aid in the Catholic Reformation and the artwork was to be displayed at the
Convento de las Descalzas Reales in Madrid. (Ringling Museum n.d.)

There are also several doves at the bottom of the painting, presumably indicating purity and perhaps
symbols of love as well. (Wall Text 2012) The focal point of the painting is the woman with infant.
This is shown by the lighting in the painting being directly on her, the bright red that she is wearing,
and the circling of the putti around her figure along with the majority of their gazes being directed at
her. The bright light directly behind her and the infant could possibly be coming from the sun behind
the clouds in the sky, the putti to her upper right holding the torch, or it could be symbolic in that it is
the infant s halo and representative of his divine nature. The overall piece is not overly dark but the
lighting seems to be most focused on the woman, infant, her other children, and the flying putti. This
is an example of tenebrism. The flying putti are shown in a ring around the woman, some holding
hands. Some have feathered wings; others have either insect or fairy like wings. They all seem to have
individual faces and expressions and all express happiness. The putti are contorted in different
positions as they fly in the air, and Rubens uses foreshortening with the limbs to achieve this and show
movement and action in the piece, especially with the two putti directly above the woman s head and
the back of their feet showing to the viewer. He also uses chiaroscuro to give the putti volume shown
by the lighting

Invicta Soil Patterns
Introduction
The accidental introduction of the red imported fire ant Solenopsis invicta Buren (Hymenoptera:
Formicidae: Myrmicinae) to Alabama between 1933 and 1945 led to the eventual invasion of all of the
southeastern US. Once established, the species quickly developed a reputation for both its sting and its
ability to rapidly invade new habitats. As S. invicta expanded its range out of urban centers and into
various other habitats, concerns arose about the ability of the species to invade pristine systems and
displace native ant species. Yet, research has found that S. invicta is less of a superior competitor and
more of an opportunistic, disturbance specialist. For example, a study in southeast Texas by LeBrun et

study by Forys et al. found high densities primarily concentrated along roadways and in edge habitats
in every Key. Furthermore, undisturbed sites were more likely to be occupied if they were within 50m
of a road and within 150m of high densities of urban development. This indicates that the conditions
within these sites of localized disturbance allow for persistence and eventual dispersal into
undisturbed sites (Forys et al.

My Real Life Negotiation Assignment Essay
For my real life negotiation assignment, I went to Auffenberg Pre Owned Center in Belleville. I have
never bought a car before, nor witnessed anyone buy one, so this was an entirely new experience for
me. I chose to negotiate for a car for two reasons. First, I can t negotiate for something more typical
like a raise or lower rent because of my circumstances. Second, I will probably buy a car within the
next few years, so I thought this would be a beneficial experience for me. After negotiating for the car,
I think this experience has helped me improve my negotiation skills by showing me things I do well,
areas I can improve, and tactics the salesman used against me. To prepare for my negotiation, I used a
variety of websites including the dealership s own site, Kelly Blue Book, Carfax, Cars.com, and the
NADA s website to research various automobiles and their respective prices. Once I completed my
research, which took approximately five hours, I went to the dealership within a week. I walked in and
asked to speak to the sales manager Mike Murphy, but he immediately passed me off to one of the
other sales representatives, Matt Townsend. I showed Matt the car I was interested in, a 2013 Chevy
Malibu LT, and he took me on a test drive. When we returned from the test drive, we went to his
cubicle and began negotiating the price of the automobile. He explained the various fees and taxes on
the car the brought the price up to $17,025.82 from the $14,799 for the car alone.

for the new system. To handle the new work load manually Cango would have to employ 16 pickers
across three shifts to accommodate the increase in demand. There would need to be extra terminals

Though the projections for the fall quarter look promising the resurge us of books and CD s is
unlikely. Recent reports have sales of books falling as much as 34% over last year and the increase of
eBooks over 300%. (Wolman, 2011) It also has CD sales being cut in half over the past decade. The
rise of people buying digital music and streaming music is significant.
Without question the new technology can be paid for by this fall s increase in revenues alone. At 1.5
million per system, it takes 3 million to install the systems. Our revenues projected for the fall is 31
million with net income being approximately 10% of sales revenue the investment will be paid back
almost immediately. The question still remains if it makes sense long term.
If traditional book sales continue to fall at their present rate of 34% annually we will be out of the
traditional books selling in three years. The CD sales are declining at a similar rate.

Woman s Party, utilized their right of free speech from the First Amendment of the Constitution,
which provides that Congress shall make no law . . . abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press
by publishing and disseminating a newspaper that discussed their issue and spoke out against
President Wilson as well as staging protests outside of the White House during a time of war. Public
opinion of the suffragettes repeatedly changed throughout the movie, especially when World War I
was occurring. Significant events such as war influences public opinion, which was apparent in both
of these films. During this time, public opinion was against the suffragettes, which was apparent when
the crowd attacked the women during their protest. The group was arrested for obstructing traffic
although they were picketing on the sidewalk and sentenced to a women s prison when they refused to
pay the fine since they had not committed the crime. After breaking a window for fresh air, Alice Paul
was placed in solitary confinement, went on a hunger strike, is denied counsel and is examined in the
psychiatric ward. The suffragettes all go on hunger strike and the prison warden begins force feeding
them, but it is not until a note

The Roles of The National Security Enterprise
The National Security Enterprise (NSE) is the overarching government apparatus responsible for
national security decision making. This is generally thought of as the National Security Council (NSC)
and the Department and Agencies they represent. However, Roger Z George and Harvey Rishikof
point out in The National Security Enterprise: Navigating the Labyrinth that national security decision
making may rest with the President and the NSC but is significantly influenced by the Modern Media
(including the traditional Press), lobbyist, think tanks, and the US Congress. A significant role for the
NSE is ensuring that these different elements of government can exchange information, share
responsibilities, and collaborate to avert or at least minimize damage to U.S. foreign and domestic
interests.(George and Rishikof 2011)
The National Security Act of 1947 created the National Security Council. The National Security
Council (NSC) is the principal White House institution that is responsible for coordinating national
security strategy, advising the president on national security issues, overseeing policy implementation
through the interagency process, and responding to national security crises. (George and Rishikof
2011) The exact make up of the National Security Council has fluctuated with the changes in
Presidential administrations. It has always consisted of the Vice President, the Secretaries of Defense,
and State, the two statutory advisors the Chairman of the Joint

Claude Debussy Nonconforming Style
With strict guidelines and rules, one often finds a sense of order and proper balance. This is a common
philosophy across many realms. Without order or balance, there is often chaos and calamity and many
people find that uncomfortable, to say the least. However, there are a few that thrive by breaking the
rules or simply ignoring them altogether. Claude Debussy once said that he did not write in a
particular style because he knew the style (Lederer 15). This is to say that he knew the outcome of
following the rules and he wanted to create something better which would require that he toss all rules
aside. This sentiment is one that Debussy carried throughout his entire life and is present in all his
works. In his first published work, Nuit d etoiles, he demonstrates his first example of his
nonconforming style as well as music that is not just expression of feeling but a feeling itself. From a
very early age, it was apparent that Claude Debussy was incredibly talented. It was also apparent from
the start that he despised many of the forms and foundational teachings of the prestigious school, the
Paris Conservatory, much to the dismay of a somewhat archaic faculty. However, despite his utterly
unorthodox (Roberts 36) methods and approaches to his schoolwork, Debussy s teachers recognized
his ingenious and respected his burning need to find expression for the sounds in his imagination
(Lederer 15).
Debussy s introspective and reserved nature often inclined him to isolate

Methods Of Interviewing And Surveying
To achieve the research aim both methods of interviewing and surveying will be employed. To
complete the first objective doctors will be interviewed in order to assess how they justify using
therapeutic privilege and what influence their medical experience has. In terms of the second objective
previous patients will be surveyed on their opinions of not giving fully informed consent and what
effect they would expect to experience if the therapeutic privilege was used.
Investigative interviews
I propose to interview eight doctors to obtain their personal opinions on therapeutic privilege. In
addition to what arguments they feel they would employ to justify the use of such. This will be
dependant on doctors willingness to participate. Encouraging doctors to get involved will be difficult.
There may be a need for a gatekeeper. Before getting doctors involved, specific permission will be
required. In Scotland, any NHS research must be approved by the Research Scotland Permissions
Coordinating Centre. This body will also hopefully aid me in getting in contact with doctors.
Before conducting such interviews ethical clearance will be sought. In these interviews, I aim to
include doctors from both genders, with a range of ages and ranges of professional experience. This
will maintain fairness and show if there are any differences between justifications depending on their
previous medical experience. In the interests of time and cost saving these interviews will be
conducted

The Short Term Significance Of De Stalinization On Russian...
Assess the short term significance of De Stalinization on Russian politics and society
The contemporary materials make it clear that De Stalinization was quite significant in making an
impact of Russian politics and society. It had been put into practise once Joseph Stalin the head of
state of the Soviet Union had died in 1953. De Stalinization had a significant impact on Russia in
many ways; it affected Russian politics, society, communism in Russia, the freedom of the country
and also Khrushchev. The idea of de Stalinization was the completely remove the repressive pressure
on Russia that was set by the tyrannical leader Stalin. Khrushchev believed that Stalin had damaged
Russia both politically and socially and wanted to eliminate the mark Stalin had on Russia and its
people.
The step taken towards putting de Stalinization in to practise was taken by Nikita Khrushchev, when
he had given a secret speech to the Twentieth Party Congress. His speech consisted of the personality
cult and its consequences, where he had spoke about the dictatorship of Stalin and how he had affected
the country, the people were shocked by the words of Khrushchev, the man who had worked with
Stalin for many years was now denouncing the leader that controlled Russia for 30 years Since not
everyone yet understands what the personality cult led to in practise and what immense damage was
done (₁). The second speech was given in 1961, he speech had taken place in order to introduce

Internal Lobe Research Paper
There are four lobes that make up the complex organ that we call the brain. Each of these parts or
lobes have different functions that range from reasoning to auditory perception and make that
particular person so unique. Some people have stronger and well more developed lobes in which is
why not everyone is the same and could mean one section is inferior to the rest. To begin with, the
frontal lob, which is located in the front of the human head, is associated with reasoning, higher level
cognition, language, and motor skills. Behind the frontal lobe lies the motor cortex in which is the part
where the brain receives an ample amount of information. The information that was mentioned are
from various lobes of the brain and helps the body with movements. Another section of the brain,
located in the middle is called the parietal lobe. This lobe, is in charge of processing tactile sensory
information. Touch, pain, and pressure are essential to a persons everyday life and without it could
lead to naturalistic numbness. A portion of the brain, known as the somatosensory cortex, is located in
this major lobe and helps to the stages of processing body senses. The Occipital lobe, found in the
very rear of the head governs the ability of interpreting visual stimuli and information. A primary

Plagiarism Is Not The Right Way
Plagiarism has been around for a long time, nowadays it s easier to tell if someone plagiarizes.
Plagiarism is not the way to go it is not worth the risk and definitely has it consequences. Plagiarism is
an act or instance of using or closely imitating the thoughts of another author without authorization
and passing it as your own (Dictionary.com). Plagiarism is the work of those who are not willing to
put in the time and effort it takes to write original content. Which can be a form of cheating which is
not respectable and not good for the educating process at all. Instead of learning the material and
doing the research and required procedures for the assignment. Those who plagiarize are cheating
themselves in the long run, because they are not really learning the information required for their
class. Educators intend for students to complete the material provided and trust them to complete their
work the right way. I think we can all agree that writing an essay isn t the most exciting thing to do, it
takes a lot of thought and effort. However completing an essay can be a very rewarding feeling.
Knowing you worked hard researching and taking the time to produce some good quality material can
be motivating. Unfortunately those who choose plagiarism prefer to take an easier route thinking they
will not get caught. Taking someone else s hard work and submitting it as their own is not right. In the
end the consequences for choosing plagiarism is not worth it.

Racial And Ethnic Identity Development
The racial and ethnic identity individuals identify with can be a crucial aspect of the basis of their
individual and collective identity (Chávez Guido DiBrito, 1999). Racial and ethnic identities are also
both comprised of a sense of belongingness to a group, the learning process of being informed about
one s group, in addition to being associated with cultural behaviors and values, with attitudes towards
one s own group, and reactions to discriminate (Phinney Ong, 2007). In the United States, the way in
which some individuals are visibly and legally defined, places them into minority populations that can
alter the way they identify with their racial and ethnic status, conflicting social influences, and cultural
influences (Phinney Ong, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first stage describes unexamined ethnic identity and states that individuals fall into one of two
categories based on their knowledge or influences of ethnicity. The two categories include, the
diffusion category, when the individual has not previously encountered ethnicity as an issue or topic,
and the foreclosure category, when individuals have collected information about ethnicity from their
family and peers, also succumbing to such information without actually interacting with individuals of
that ethnic population, (Phinney, 1993). For many individuals in this stage, ethnicity is not typically
viewed as an issue, which in turn, leads to diffusion or foreclosure, while other individuals may impart
strong ethnic views and seem to jump ahead to stage three. The second stage of Phinney s model has
to do with the search or moratorium of individuals ethnic identity that describes when an individual
encounters can alter how people view and become aware of their own ethnicity (1993). Phinney
(1993), suggests that individuals may remain in this stage for a long period of time and may even
experience rather intense emotions. Lastly, the third stage discusses ethnic identity achievement when
individuals resolve their ethnic identity conflicts (Phinney, 1993). During this stage, individuals are
informed about their own ethnicity, but are aware and appreciative of all ethnicities and suggests a
positive, bicultural identity (Phinney, 1993). While this model may help to explain how individuals
ethnic identity could influence the course of an individual s life and the choices they make entering
adulthood, it is important to note that Phinney s model of ethnic identity development used research
from minority adolescents, therefore the applicability of this model should be drawn into question
when applying it to emerging adulthood

Performance Parts Affecting Automotive Engines
What we will be discussing The topic of my research paper is how performance parts affect an
automotive engine. I will be outlining how these different modifications to your car can dramatically
affect your vehicle. Why I am interested I have always been fascinated by fast cars. As I grew older I
realized you didn t have to drop $100,000 on a Sports car to make a car fast. Most of the following
modifications can be placed on any car. Everything from a Corolla to a Corvette. How an engine
works An automotive engine extracts work from its chemical fuel by burning that fuel inside its
cylinders and making the resulting burned gas do work on the engine. Most engines have at least four
cylinders, each of which requires four strokes of the piston to extract work from the fuel. During the
induction stroke, a piston moves out of the cylinder and the fuel and air enter it. During the
compression stroke, the piston moves into the cylinder, compressing this fuel air mixture to high
density, pressure and temperature. An electric spark then ignites the mixture and converts it into
extremely hot burned gas. During the power stroke, the piston again moves out of the cylinder while
the hot gas does work on it. This work is what powers the car. Finally, during the exhaust stroke, the
piston moves into the cylinder and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Combustion happens by mixing fuel and air in the combustion chamber or cylinder. Engines operate
by burning the fuel which then pushes the pistons down. If you want more power you need to burn
more fuel so it will push the pistons down with more force. But it is impossible to burn this extra fuel
without extra oxygen. Nitrous allows the engine to burn more fuel than it could burn normally. It
releases a compressed form of liquid oxygen which allows more fuel to be burned over a short period
of time. Nitrous allows you to burn fuel faster, so if no extra fuel is added the resulting effect is that
you will have no gain in

Project results (advantages) are postponed or lessened
Project yield quality is diminished;

negative effects of the Great Leap Forward Movement, The Cultural Revolution, the commune

period of 1952 to 1988 will be briefly discussed.

Between 1958 and 1984, the communes were responsible for procuring grain, for drawing up plans for
subordinate units (the production brigades and teams), and for managing water and pest control,
afforestation, and transportation projects. They also operated facilities for marketing crops, as well as
stores selling consumer goods, seed, fertilizer, implements, and other farm inputs. So basically by
1985 the communes were transformed to economic units with no political influence. The commune
movement was the key starting point for Chinese rural agriculture to become decentralized or in other
words become free from complete control of the central government.
The reform of agriculture was required when the Chinese leaders finished experimenting with the
commune system and central economic planning. They became aware of its many down falls and so
they began to concentrate on a more market oriented economy. One of the main shortcomings of the
commune system was that farm workers had no incentive to work hard because they were not
rewarded for their efforts. The farmers knew how to run the farms efficiently, but their hands were tied
under the commune system by the central government.
All things changed when the responsibility system came into effect. This responsibility system is
similar to private farming in a market economy, with

The Lab Must Stay Clean And Sterile
Laboratories across the United States have many different ways of operating in order to collect
sufficient and precise data and make adequate conclusions. In order for a laboratory to run smoothly

Introduction to History, Philosophy and Sociology of Science, I had the opportunity to complete a two

Shortly after emailing him about observing the lab, he connected me with a graduate student name

parts of the laboratory work, as well as collect data. When I observed this lab, I did not participate at

note taking, asking extensive questions, and drawing a sketch of the lab. In order to understand the
steps that were taking place, quickly I realized, that extensive note taking on everything that I could
see, smell, hear, and touch, was an adequate way to gain knowledge about the laboratory. I watched

between language, attention and behavioral problem. It pointed out that, language plays an important
role in regulation of attention, and sustained attention are related to internalizing and externalizing
behavior problems. Thus, to alleviate or prevent the behavior problem in children with SPHL, SLP
should also focus on their sustained attention at the same time to improving their regulatory skills.
Last but not least, it is important to encourage typically developing children the inclusion of all

how can this impacts one s ability to communicate. Structural program is needed to help both groups

Gardner Versus Traditional Teaching Methods Rhetorical...
Gardner vs Traditional Teaching Methods Mr. Gardner expresses the theory that students should first
learn how to understand a few important subjects and be able to decipher unique situations rather than
just memorize facts for standardized tests. He builds his argument eloquently using mainly logos and
ethos as his persuasive methods. He uses logos by making the reader think logically and digest not
only his opinion, but the opinion of other experts. As for ethos, Mr. Gardner impresses upon the reader
that he has a wealth of knowledge and an extensive background in the subject of education.
Professor Gardner presents logos by quoting psychologists and educators, usage of historical analysis,
and real world examples. This forces the reader to think about their own experiences and how they
were taught and what teaching style would be best for their own children or themselves. He believes
that students should learn to appreciate multiple perspectives about a subject and rid themselves of
their simplistic misconceptions (Gardner 634). However, wiping the mental slate clean he says, is not
a simple task and he furthers his point using logos in paraphrasing Lauren Resnick , disconfirming

Intelligence Vs And Isaac Asimov s Theory Of Multiple...
Most everyone who has undergone public schooling and standardized testing is familiar with the
thought Does this test even assess any real ability? . Generally, people who don t perform well on
these tests either believe that standardized testing only works for people who are book smart or that
standardized testing does not work at all. But what is book smart anyway? Some people tend to
generalize intelligence into two categories, people who are book smart and people who are street
smart , as exemplified in Isaac Asimov s What is Intelligence, Anyway? . In Asimov s excerpt, he tells
the story of a young woman who performed well when it came to standardized testing, but realized
that she was not street smart. When she went to her mechanic to fix her car, he asks her a trick
question and, when she answers incorrectly, says that he knew she would get it wrong because she was
so book smart that there was no way she was street smart (122 123). This leads to the distinction that
book smart refers to idealized and theoretical intelligence, while street smart refers to a type of hands
on intelligence. While this is a common way for people to view intelligence, there exists an even more
thorough examination of intelligence Howard Gardner s Theory of Multiple Intelligences which
outlines as many as nine types of intelligence. Bearing in mind that there are so many different types
of intelligence, it begs the question of whether or not standardized testing can really be a good

lower leg. This muscle injury is a type of cumulative stress disorder.
What are the Causes and Risk Factors?
Shin splints are caused by stress that is repetitive on the shinbone and the connective tissues that
attach your muscles to the bone. Running down hill, old shoes, and exercising on hard or inclined
surfaces are all factors that can cause shin splints. Too much pressure on your shins can be bad, and
can be long term if not treated correctly.
What are symptoms and Signs? When shin splints occur, pain is felt in the shins. Tenderness and
soreness of the shins are also signs of shin splints. Swelling of the lower leg is possible. The pain may
occur while exercising, and stop when you quit, but the pain can continue and could form into a stress
reaction or stress fracture if not treated correctly. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first thing to do if you think you may have shin splints is to rest. Take some time off exercising.
Ice your shins 3 5 times a day. Over the counter pain relievers might help to ease the pain as well. If
rest, ice, or pain relievers do not work, then consulting a doctor may be necessary to see if the injury
has formed into something worse. A doctor may help ease the pain quicker if you are an athlete and
need to recover

Women Of Color Analysis
Looking back throughout the history of media, the portrayal of minorities particularly that of Women
of Color has been formed, shaped, taken apart, and reformed. The audience need only look at
commercials, television programs, and movies to realize that the exemplification of women of color
(WOC) in the media is either scarce, stereotypical, or unrealistic. As time advances, individuals and
organizations, such as The Representation Project, work towards establishing a new kind of WOC in
the media a WOC who is not portrayed with a stereotypical role, but is instead a strong, capable,
intelligent woman with a real story. This paper will detail how a WOC s lack of presence, negative
portrayal, and subsequent skewed perception, halts the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 2015 Hollywood Diversity Report: Flipping the Script, Drs. Darnell Hunt and Ana Christina Ramon
takes a hard look at the statistics of women of color involved on television, in movies, and behind the
scenes. In 2013, cable scripted television programs had approximately 62.9% lead male roles and
37.1% female lead roles of that 80.7% of lead female roles were white and 19.3% were Asian, Latino,
Indian, and black women of color a slight increase of 4.6% since 2012. It was in 2012 that women
held the most female leads in the history of film: 30.8% of these 15.1% were women of color;
however, in 2013, the percentage of female leads dropped to 25.3% while increasing in minority roles
to 16.7%. Furthermore, it is seen that female television writers and directors make up approximately
30% with 30% of these women being minorities. Oscar winners by gender was an even 50% in 2012,
and increase of 32% since 2011. Of these female actresses, 25% of them were minorities an increase
from 0 in 2011. Drs. Hunt and Roman admit to studying these finding in an attempt to shed light on
the Hollywood race and gender problem (Ramon). The increase and decrease of gender roles and
minority roles is proof that Hollywood has the capacity to correct the problem when it comes to
discrimination and prejudice, but seemingly refuse to do

The Library For Books And Reading Were Prevalent
After multiple visits to the library to observe and interview, underlying themes of love for books and
reading were prevalent. When interviewing my librarian informant many times she said she loved to
read and loved books. The job of a librarian suited her perfectly. While on tour with her, I notice the
care other employees took while handling books as well, they would sort them gently and with gloved
hands re shelve them carefully as if handling a glass vase. When asked what they did after hours or for
fun, a few stated they just read. I have my focus group scheduled for this week and most likely will
get similar responses. Also the theme of the modern library relying heavily on technology was
reoccurring. From automated book check outs to security tags, to librarians running computerized
queries to find a book s statistics: frequency of check out, popularity and if it should still be offered at
the library. The librarians use computers and technology in almost all the request they get to assist
patrons. From when a book is out, to when something new will be available, to when a book should be
back in the library or if it is available online.
I will need to collect some follow up data and the data provided from the focus group should solidify
most of my findings. I would also like to see if all focus group members have the same respect for
books and reading or if I can pick up that this is only a job/paycheck for them. I just finished the
process of transcribing

The third and important use is a hedge. Hedge is a trading strategy in which derivative securities are
used to reduce or completely offset counterparty s risk exposure to an underlying asset [1] (Brown,

Petruchio Monologue
Studying The Taming of the Shrew through performance led me to understand the power of language
and importance of speech. [The play was a comedy, so I had a lot of fun with Petruchio s outspoken
character and exaggerated persona. In order to perform as him, I needed to understand his underlying
motivations.] Petruchio is defined by two motivations: wealth and dominance. His main motive to
wed Katharina is to gain wealth, for the dowry he will receive once they are married. This is shown by
his emphasis and haste to ask for the dowry when he first meets Katharina s father. He asks, Then tell
me, if I get you daughter s love, / What dowry shall I have with her to wife ( )? Baptista responds,
After me death the one half of my lands, / And in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He demeans Katharina through sexual innuendos. For instance, when Katharina calls him a nice stool,
Petruchio responds with Thou hast hit it: come sit on me (2.1.209). His quick response with a sexual
innuendo shows his imperviousness to her insults. That is why I chose to say this conceited and loud
to show that he is pleased about his swift counter Katharina s biting remarks. At the end of the
encounter between Katharina and Petruchio, Petruchio ends with a speech declaring that they will be
married, no matter how much she opposes it or defies him. He says in his monologue, For I am he am
born to tame you Kate, / And bring you from a wild Kate to a Kate / Conformable as other household
Kates (2.1.291 293). Here, Petruchio is seen as declaring control Katharina. That is why I chose to say
this in an assertive manner, staring directly into the eyes of Nabiha, who was acting as Katharina,
while slowly and confidently walking towards her, backing her into a corner. I emphasized wild and
conformable to convey the dominating role of Petruchio. This also foreshadows the alarming lengths
he later goes to impose dominance over

Critical Criticism Of Hester Prynne
Hester Prynne. Not the Heroine.
In the critical essay On the Scarlet Letter , by D.H Lawrence, Lawrence analyzes the character Hester
Prynne from the novel The Scarlet Letter , and how her life is portrayed. According to Lawrence,
Hester is not worthy of the praise she is given by Nathaniel Hawthorne. D.H. Lawrence uses the
techniques of repetition, compact syntax and biblical allusions to effectively convey his negative
attitudes towards Hester Prynne. Lawrence uses the repetition of certain words to drill them into the
reader s mind. The continuous use of the phrase A. Adulteress! throughout the essay reinforces Hester
s sin, and reminds the reader that she is a sinner, rather than someone worthy of praise (Lawrence).
This repetition resembles the physical scarlet letter, in the sense that D.H. Lawrence is shaming Hester
over and over again, similar to how the Puritans shamed Hester throughout her life. Moreover, the
name of the object that was pinned to Hester s breast, The Scarlet Letter is also repeated throughout
Lawrence s essay (Lawrence). By using this phrase, Hester is reduced to her sin, stripping away all of
her good deeds, because the emphasis is placed on her sinful actions rather than her personal qualities
and life after the sin, which does not give the reader a chance to focus on any positive qualities Hester
possesses. In addition, the scarlet letter holds the negative connotations of sin, punishment and
adultery. By repeating Scarlet Letter , the reader s mind is filled with these negative connotations, thus
reiterating Lawrence s opinion that Hester is the source of evil and her actions should not have been
glorified. Lawrence s repetition of these phrases reinforces Hester s sin and shameful actions, which
effectively conveys his dismissive feelings towards Hester. The use of compact syntax highlights
Lawrence s disapproval of Hester Prynne by abruptly and continuously shooting her down. The
concise sentence Adulteress. Alpha. Abel, Adam. A. America shoots at Hester with negative words
(Lawrence). This rapid fire structure effectively degrades Hester as each word delivers an individual
blow to her character and degrades her, by restating her sin, the letter A which

  • 2. Why Rumor Is Defined By The New York Stock Exchange Rumor is defined by the Oxford English Dictionary as an unverified or unconfirmed statement or report circulating in a community. In the financial community, rumors have an effect on the direction of markets. The New York Stock Exchange in the United States is the epitome of how rumors can impact trade. The fluctuation of stock and commodity (raw material) prices on a daily basis is, in part, due to the daily news cycle. Although reports by news companies are supposed to be factual, statements made can be unverified. Because of the large scale of social media, anyone can make up rumors that can go viral. Stock traders rely on the news to determine what stocks they will buy or sell. News reports include important information such as: new product developments, company restructures, commodity reports, and scandals. Because of the rapid news, trading on the stock market happens very fast and it gets chaotic. As the buyers and sellers interact their process sets the stock price. The news effects the stock price because if a positive story circulates, there will be more buyers for a stock, which will raise the stock price; if a negative story circulates, there will be fewer buyers, which will lower the stock price. This constant process can either earn a big payday or be a total loss. Because of the money that people stand to either make or loose, rumors have an effect on the way individuals behave on the stock market. To better understand how rumors work within the financial ... It was one of the first stories that shows a scenario of conflict between the human race and extraterrestrials. It was published by Dover Publications, Inc with a copyright date set in 1997. The book has 145 pages. The story takes place in London, England in the final years of the 19th century. The conflict is external(man vs man) and towards the end of the story, becomes internal(man vs self). One of the most important and critical decisions made was the martian s decision to get rid of bacteria on their planet thousands of years before. Doing this, their bodies had no need for a resistance against bacteria. This made the martians very susceptible and vulnerable to disease and viruses contracted from Earth. Humans have gained a strong resistance over millions of years, because bacteria and disease has been around since the beginning of time. these germs of disease have taken poll of humanity since the beginning of things taken tool of our pre human ancestors since life began here. But by virtue of this natural selection of our kind we have developed resisting power; to no germs do we succumb without a struggle, and to many does that cause putrefaction in that matter, for instance our living frames are altogether immune. This purchase was known as the Louisiana Purchase, which is arguably the best decision in US history. All the new land resulted in several unknown questions. Some of them were, what does this land provide, what animals are out there, who can be found on this land? To answer some of these mysterious questions Jefferson sent Meriwether Lewis and William Clark to explore the Louisiana Purchase. They also were sent to form learn and form relationships with the people all ready on the land they are about to explore. One of their stops on their journey was at what now is known as Fort Mandan, in Bismarck, North Dakota. Here is where Lewis and Clark s relationship with the Mandan tribe was crucial because their next steps have never been explored by whites. Only the Indians knew what the land looked like from North Dakota to the Pacific Ocean. The Mandan tribe was able to show the explorers areas of the land that was just bought by the United States of America. Between both the white explorers and the Mandan tribe they both benefited from their relationships they formed over the winter months of 1804 because Lewis and Clark did not anticipate spending the winter in North Dakota. Safwan Siddiqi Mr. Williams AP Government and Politics, Period 2 March 28, 2015 Should Welfare Subsidies be limited to only the Social Security System? Social programs for aiding the needs of the U.S. population are called welfare subsidies. Federal social programs were first proposed with Theodore Roosevelt s New Nationalism, and expanded during the Wilson, Roosevelt, and Johnson Administrations. There are eighty three overlapping federal programs which vary in eligibility requirements. They help provide food, shelter, healthcare, education and money to American citizens. These services are provided through primary and secondary education, subsidies of college education, pensions for eligible persons, subsidies for eligible low wage workers, subsidies for housing, unemployment disability insurance, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits, subsidies for housing, and health insurance programs that cover public employees. The largest and most prominent welfare subsidy is the Social Security Program and the second largest is Medicare. Aside from Medicare and Social Security, Congress allocated $717 billion to welfare subsidies in 2010. That same year, states allocated $210 billion. The total allocations for Social Security and Medicare were $1.3 trillion in 2013, which was 37% of the total Federal expenditure budget of $3.684 trillion. Julies adventure into learning karate starts after Mr. Miyagi witnesses her avoiding getting hit by a car by jumping onto it s hood in a tiger jump. This is a form of latent learning. Julie had been previously taught karate by her father before his passing. Latent learning is described as learning that is hidden or concealed until motivated or triggered ( Psych Rathus, S.A., pg 127). The sequence of events triggered her response to avoiding the car. The artwork is an oil painting on canvas, circa 1625. This piece of art was commission by Isabella Clara Eugenia, Infanta of Spain and Portugal. The Triumph of Divine Love was one of eleven art pieces in a series portraying the Eucharist cycle, an important issue in the Catholic Protestant strife. Its purpose was to aid in the Catholic Reformation and the artwork was to be displayed at the Convento de las Descalzas Reales in Madrid. (Ringling Museum n.d.) Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are also several doves at the bottom of the painting, presumably indicating purity and perhaps symbols of love as well. (Wall Text 2012) The focal point of the painting is the woman with infant. This is shown by the lighting in the painting being directly on her, the bright red that she is wearing, and the circling of the putti around her figure along with the majority of their gazes being directed at her. The bright light directly behind her and the infant could possibly be coming from the sun behind the clouds in the sky, the putti to her upper right holding the torch, or it could be symbolic in that it is the infant s halo and representative of his divine nature. The overall piece is not overly dark but the lighting seems to be most focused on the woman, infant, her other children, and the flying putti. This is an example of tenebrism. The flying putti are shown in a ring around the woman, some holding hands. Some have feathered wings; others have either insect or fairy like wings. They all seem to have individual faces and expressions and all express happiness. The putti are contorted in different positions as they fly in the air, and Rubens uses foreshortening with the limbs to achieve this and show movement and action in the piece, especially with the two putti directly above the woman s head and the back of their feet showing to the viewer. Invicta Soil Patterns Introduction The accidental introduction of the red imported fire ant Solenopsis invicta Buren (Hymenoptera: Formicidae: Myrmicinae) to Alabama between 1933 and 1945 led to the eventual invasion of all of the southeastern US. Once established, the species quickly developed a reputation for both its sting and its ability to rapidly invade new habitats. As S. invicta expanded its range out of urban centers and into various other habitats, concerns arose about the ability of the species to invade pristine systems and displace native ant species. I have never bought a car before, nor witnessed anyone buy one, so this was an entirely new experience for me. I chose to negotiate for a car for two reasons. First, I can t negotiate for something more typical like a raise or lower rent because of my circumstances. Second, I will probably buy a car within the next few years, so I thought this would be a beneficial experience for me. After negotiating for the car, I think this experience has helped me improve my negotiation skills by showing me things I do well, areas I can improve, and tactics the salesman used against me. To prepare for my negotiation, I used a variety of websites including the dealership s own site, Kelly Blue Book, Carfax, Cars.com, and the NADA s website to research various automobiles and their respective prices. Once I completed my research, which took approximately five hours, I went to the dealership within a week. I walked in and asked to speak to the sales manager Mike Murphy, but he immediately passed me off to one of the other sales representatives, Matt Townsend. I showed Matt the car I was interested in, a 2013 Chevy Malibu LT, and he took me on a test drive. When we returned from the test drive, we went to his cubicle and began negotiating the price of the automobile. • 23. Claude Debussy Nonconforming Style With strict guidelines and rules, one often finds a sense of order and proper balance. This is a common philosophy across many realms. Without order or balance, there is often chaos and calamity and many people find that uncomfortable, to say the least. However, there are a few that thrive by breaking the rules or simply ignoring them altogether. Claude Debussy once said that he did not write in a particular style because he knew the style (Lederer 15). This is to say that he knew the outcome of following the rules and he wanted to create something better which would require that he toss all rules aside. This sentiment is one that Debussy carried throughout his entire life and is present in all his works. In his first published work, Nuit d etoiles, he demonstrates his first example of his nonconforming style as well as music that is not just expression of feeling but a feeling itself. From a very early age, it was apparent that Claude Debussy was incredibly talented. It was also apparent from the start that he despised many of the forms and foundational teachings of the prestigious school, the Paris Conservatory, much to the dismay of a somewhat archaic faculty. However, despite his utterly unorthodox (Roberts 36) methods and approaches to his schoolwork, Debussy s teachers recognized his ingenious and respected his burning need to find expression for the sounds in his imagination (Lederer 15). In terms of the second objective previous patients will be surveyed on their opinions of not giving fully informed consent and what effect they would expect to experience if the therapeutic privilege was used. Investigative interviews I propose to interview eight doctors to obtain their personal opinions on therapeutic privilege. In addition to what arguments they feel they would employ to justify the use of such. This will be dependant on doctors willingness to participate. Encouraging doctors to get involved will be difficult. There may be a need for a gatekeeper. Before getting doctors involved, specific permission will be required. In Scotland, any NHS research must be approved by the Research Scotland Permissions Coordinating Centre. This body will also hopefully aid me in getting in contact with doctors. Before conducting such interviews ethical clearance will be sought. In these interviews, I aim to include doctors from both genders, with a range of ages and ranges of professional experience. It had been put into practise once Joseph Stalin the head of state of the Soviet Union had died in 1953. De Stalinization had a significant impact on Russia in many ways; it affected Russian politics, society, communism in Russia, the freedom of the country and also Khrushchev. The idea of de Stalinization was the completely remove the repressive pressure on Russia that was set by the tyrannical leader Stalin. Khrushchev believed that Stalin had damaged Russia both politically and socially and wanted to eliminate the mark Stalin had on Russia and its people. The step taken towards putting de Stalinization in to practise was taken by Nikita Khrushchev, when he had given a secret speech to the Twentieth Party Congress. • 26. Internal Lobe Research Paper There are four lobes that make up the complex organ that we call the brain. Each of these parts or lobes have different functions that range from reasoning to auditory perception and make that particular person so unique. Some people have stronger and well more developed lobes in which is why not everyone is the same and could mean one section is inferior to the rest. To begin with, the frontal lob, which is located in the front of the human head, is associated with reasoning, higher level cognition, language, and motor skills. Behind the frontal lobe lies the motor cortex in which is the part where the brain receives an ample amount of information. The information that was mentioned are from various lobes of the brain and helps the body with movements. Another section of the brain, located in the middle is called the parietal lobe. This lobe, is in charge of processing tactile sensory information. Touch, pain, and pressure are essential to a persons everyday life and without it could lead to naturalistic numbness. The two categories include, the diffusion category, when the individual has not previously encountered ethnicity as an issue or topic, and the foreclosure category, when individuals have collected information about ethnicity from their family and peers, also succumbing to such information without actually interacting with individuals of that ethnic population, (Phinney, 1993). For many individuals in this stage, ethnicity is not typically viewed as an issue, which in turn, leads to diffusion or foreclosure, while other individuals may impart strong ethnic views and seem to jump ahead to stage three. The second stage of Phinney s model has to do with the search or moratorium of individuals ethnic identity that describes when an individual encounters can alter how people view and become aware of their own ethnicity (1993). Phinney (1993), suggests that individuals may remain in this stage for a long period of time and may even experience rather intense emotions. As I grew older I realized you didn t have to drop $100,000 on a Sports car to make a car fast. Most of the following modifications can be placed on any car. Everything from a Corolla to a Corvette. How an engine works An automotive engine extracts work from its chemical fuel by burning that fuel inside its cylinders and making the resulting burned gas do work on the engine. Most engines have at least four cylinders, each of which requires four strokes of the piston to extract work from the fuel. During the induction stroke, a piston moves out of the cylinder and the fuel and air enter it. During the compression stroke, the piston moves into the cylinder, compressing this fuel air mixture to high density, pressure and temperature. An electric spark then ignites the mixture and converts it into extremely hot burned gas. During the power stroke, the piston again moves out of the cylinder while the hot gas does work on it. This work is what powers the car. Finally, during the exhaust stroke, the piston moves into the cylinder and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Asimov s excerpt, he tells the story of a young woman who performed well when it came to standardized testing, but realized that she was not street smart. When she went to her mechanic to fix her car, he asks her a trick question and, when she answers incorrectly, says that he knew she would get it wrong because she was so book smart that there was no way she was street smart (122 123). This leads to the distinction that book smart refers to idealized and theoretical intelligence, while street smart refers to a type of hands on intelligence. While this is a common way for people to view intelligence, there exists an even more thorough examination of intelligence Howard Gardner s Theory of Multiple Intelligences which outlines as many as nine types of intelligence. Bearing in mind that there are so many different types of intelligence, it begs the question of whether or not standardized testing can really be a good ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 44. Women Of Color Analysis Looking back throughout the history of media, the portrayal of minorities particularly that of Women of Color has been formed, shaped, taken apart, and reformed. The audience need only look at commercials, television programs, and movies to realize that the exemplification of women of color (WOC) in the media is either scarce, stereotypical, or unrealistic. As time advances, individuals and organizations, such as The Representation Project, work towards establishing a new kind of WOC in the media a WOC who is not portrayed with a stereotypical role, but is instead a strong, capable, intelligent woman with a real story. • 45. The Library For Books And Reading Were Prevalent After multiple visits to the library to observe and interview, underlying themes of love for books and reading were prevalent. When interviewing my librarian informant many times she said she loved to read and loved books. The job of a librarian suited her perfectly. While on tour with her, I notice the care other employees took while handling books as well, they would sort them gently and with gloved hands re shelve them carefully as if handling a glass vase. When asked what they did after hours or for fun, a few stated they just read. I have my focus group scheduled for this week and most likely will get similar responses. Also the theme of the modern library relying heavily on technology was reoccurring. From automated book check outs to security tags, to librarians running computerized queries to find a book s statistics: frequency of check out, popularity and if it should still be offered at the library. The librarians use computers and technology in almost all the request they get to assist patrons. From when a book is out, to when something new will be available, to when a book should be back in the library or if it is available online. I will need to collect some follow up data and the data provided from the focus group should solidify most of my findings. I would also like to see if all focus group members have the same respect for books and reading or if I can pick up that this is only a job/paycheck for them. I just finished the process of transcribing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 47. Petruchio Monologue Studying The Taming of the Shrew through performance led me to understand the power of language and importance of speech. [The play was a comedy, so I had a lot of fun with Petruchio s outspoken character and exaggerated persona. In order to perform as him, I needed to understand his underlying motivations.] Petruchio is defined by two motivations: wealth and dominance. His main motive to wed Katharina is to gain wealth, for the dowry he will receive once they are married. This is shown by his emphasis and haste to ask for the dowry when he first meets Katharina s father. He asks, Then tell me, if I get you daughter s love, / What dowry shall I have with her to wife ( )? Baptista responds, After me death the one half of my lands, / And in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He demeans Katharina through sexual innuendos. For instance, when Katharina calls him a nice stool, Petruchio responds with Thou hast hit it: come sit on me (2.1.209). His quick response with a sexual innuendo shows his imperviousness to her insults. That is why I chose to say this conceited and loud to show that he is pleased about his swift counter Katharina s biting remarks. At the end of the encounter between Katharina and Petruchio, Petruchio ends with a speech declaring that they will be married, no matter how much she opposes it or defies him. He says in his monologue, For I am he am born to tame you Kate, / And bring you from a wild Kate to a Kate / Conformable as other household Kates (2.1.291 293). Here, Petruchio is seen as declaring control Katharina. That is why I chose to say this in an assertive manner, staring directly into the eyes of Nabiha, who was acting as Katharina, while slowly and confidently walking towards her, backing her into a corner. I emphasized wild and conformable to convey the dominating role of Petruchio. This also foreshadows the alarming lengths he later goes to impose dominance over ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. Critical Criticism Of Hester Prynne Hester Prynne. Not the Heroine. In the critical essay On the Scarlet Letter , by D.H Lawrence, Lawrence analyzes the character Hester Prynne from the novel The Scarlet Letter , and how her life is portrayed. According to Lawrence, Hester is not worthy of the praise she is given by Nathaniel Hawthorne. D.H. Lawrence uses the techniques of repetition, compact syntax and biblical allusions to effectively convey his negative attitudes towards Hester Prynne. Lawrence uses the repetition of certain words to drill them into the reader s mind. The continuous use of the phrase A. Adulteress! throughout the essay reinforces Hester s sin, and reminds the reader that she is a sinner, rather than someone worthy of praise (Lawrence). This repetition resembles the physical scarlet letter, in the sense that D.H. Lawrence is shaming Hester over and over again, similar to how the Puritans shamed Hester throughout her life. Moreover, the name of the object that was pinned to Hester s breast, The Scarlet Letter is also repeated throughout Lawrence s essay (Lawrence). By using this phrase, Hester is reduced to her sin, stripping away all of her good deeds, because the emphasis is placed on her sinful actions rather than her personal qualities and life after the sin, which does not give the reader a chance to focus on any positive qualities Hester possesses. In addition, the scarlet letter holds the negative connotations of sin, punishment and adultery. By repeating Scarlet Letter , the reader s mind is filled with these negative connotations, thus reiterating Lawrence s opinion that Hester is the source of evil and her actions should not have been glorified. Lawrence s repetition of these phrases reinforces Hester s sin and shameful actions, which effectively conveys his dismissive feelings towards Hester. The use of compact syntax highlights Lawrence s disapproval of Hester Prynne by abruptly and continuously shooting her down. The concise sentence Adulteress. Alpha. Abel, Adam. A. America shoots at Hester with negative words (Lawrence). This rapid fire structure effectively degrades Hester as each word delivers an individual blow to her character and degrades her, by restating her sin, the letter A which ...
