Roman Architecture Essay
When one thinks of Roman architecture, many things come to mind, such as arches, columns, statues,
and richly covered surfaces in marbles. One must stop to think that this empire, which gained power
and influence in the first century BC, must have been influenced from the thousands of years of
cultures preceding them in order to create their masterpieces of ingenuity. This phenomenon can be
seen in our borrowing of ideas of ancient Greece and Rome for the construction of our capitol
buildings in the United States. The Romans surely considered design principles of other cultures when
developing their buildings, since daily conquests of new lands opened Roman soldiers eyes to
innovations from the great vastness of their empire. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Doing so, he managed to design the most captivating section of his estate, the Great Canopus and
Serapeum, which have roots in ancient architecture, while also displaying Hadrian s own capability to
produce innovative designs through many different elements of their construction.
Ancient Egypt, which lasted as a powerful empire from 3150 to 30 BC, left a huge legacy on the
world of construction and architecture. Although their architecture revolved around veneration of the
dead, it served as inspiration to many Greek buildings and as a key source for Hadrian s Canopus
design. Through his travels to Alexandria, Egypt, Hadrian was inspired for the overall design of the
estate by attempting to recreate an Alexandrian garden with sacred landscapes, as seen through the
Villa s structures conforming to the terrain. Unfortunately, in the 16th century AD, these example of
an Alexandrian garden, created through the use of statuary and fountains were removed from Hadrian
s villa and re used in order to create a Renaissance garden based upon Roman ideals of gardening. The
large lake in the center of the Canopus is representative of a branch of the Nile River that connects
Alexandria to the Egyptian city of Canopus on the Nile Delta, for which this section of his villa was
named after. The city of Canopus was long revered for its great nocturnal celebrations for which
Hadrian wanted to recreate through

Logical Fallacies In Critical Thinking
Critical thinking is an important part of a lot of people s lives because they choose to look at the world
more differently than most. People choose to think critically because they want to see what other don
t. What I believe that critical thinking means is to look at something from every angle possible and to
think about why or how it s important. A lot of readers that I know tend to think critically because it
allows them to dissect what is written and gain more from a story aside from the normal enjoyment of
just reading the book. Critical thinking helps readers determine if the book is problematic and how the
errors in that book make it worth discussing. Critical thinking allows people to grow because it

It becomes a problematic situation even if it was written in the first book that they published and it
didn t reflect the type of person or writer that they are now, they will still be seen a sexist. I believe
that this is a hasty generalization because it takes one situation with an author of a certain gender and
creates this belief about other authors of the same gender. It creates a stereotype or misconception
about male authors in general. I think that this happens when readers refuse to think critically for
themselves because when some of these readers hear something, they run with it like it s the only truth

Global Access To Vaccination
Protecting the Herd: Global Access to Vaccinations Herd immunity or community immunity is a
societal idea to protect those who are vulnerable to diseases ( Herd Immunity ). When access to
vaccinations are limited, the herd is more at risk to infection diseases. Since vaccinations were first
used, in 1796, they have been a massive part of our history to prevent the spread of disease, been
limited to wealthy countries, and those who are against them. Even today, access to vaccinations are
very limited and continue to affect the population. Before Edward Jenner s smallpox vaccination, the
idea of inoculate had been a long standing idea ( Schlager ). In Eastern countries there was inoculation
against smallpox by taking matter ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There were approximately 90,000 anti vaccinators that were involved with this March. This was
largely a result following the Vaccination Act of 1853 and 1867 and the increase of causalities during
a time of mass vaccination ( Leicester and the ).
Between 1840 1898 there were a variety of acts put in place in Great Britain. One of the vaccination
acts that anti vaccinators felt imposed on their rights was the Vaccination Act of 1853: The
Vaccination Act of 1853 made vaccination compulsory for all infants in the first three months of life
and made defaulting parents liable to a fine or imprisonment ( Anti vaccinations ). Later, in 1867, the
Vaccination Act of 1867 extend the mandatory vaccination up to 14 years old. The politicians extend
the government power to impose on civil rights for public health.
At the end of the 19th century, anti vaccinators started to show up in the United States of America.
This was largely due to the smallpox outbreak. In 1902, Cambridge s board of health required that all
the citizens had to get the vaccination. After it was taken to the Supreme Court, they ruled in favor of
the states: State could enact compulsory laws to protect the public in the event of a communicable
disease ( History of Anti Vaccination ). This was the first Supreme Court case regarding public

Essay On Asian Americans
Asian Americans Asian Americans are a diverse group of people who are among the fastest growing
minority groups in the United States. Despite their minority status, they often surpass Whites in
America and do so while holding on to their cultural values regarding family, education, and success.
Cultural Values Toward Education The Asian group has strong standards regarding academic success.
The United States Census Bureau reported that the percentage of Asian Americans to possess a
bachelor s degree or higher increased by 54% which shows a significant increase within the past 20
years (United States Census Bureau, 2016). Throughout much of Asia, children are taught at an early
age to believe that education is the only path to success. While they are a distinct minority, their
indicators of success in terms of education and future income occur because of the unique style of
parenting which is based on the belief of the philosopher Confucius. Within their culture, they are
taught to work on self perfection which will help them achieve self improvement in qualities such as
diligence, determination, and concentration (Seal, 2010). Parents, family members, and their
community assume the responsibility for teaching and disciplining children. Furthermore, they instill
the belief that a child s achievement or lack thereof is a direct reflection on the efforts of the entire
family and community (Chen Uttal, 1988). These types of demands coupled with academic

Project on Employee Attitude
IntroductionThe world economy nowadays is increasingly characterized as a service economy. This is
primarily due to the increasing importance and share of the service sector in the economies of most
developed and developing countries. In fact, the growth of the service sector has long been considered
as indicative of a country s economic progress.Economic history tells us that all developing nations
have invariably experienced a shift from agriculture to industry and then to the service sector as the
main stay of the economy. This shift has also brought about a change in the definition of goods and
services themselves. No longer are goods considered separate from services. Rather, services now

Walt Disney and Jet-Age City Planning Essay
Walt Disney and Jet Age City Planning
Image borrowed from Waltopia. When is a planned community too planned? Some of the exhibits
displayed at the 1939 World s Fair such as Democracity and Futurama influenced many American
community planners. The Levittown and Greenbelt projects followed the same guidelines of
community that the 1939 World s Fair introduced. These are two of the more well known Garden City
projects that took many families away from big cities and brought them to the peace and tranquility of
the suburbs. On February 2nd, 1967, Walter Elias Disney announced the plans to create a domed
community. This community would be known as the Experimental Prototype Community of
Tomorrow [EPCOT]. In this note, I will discuss how ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The look of the city and the layout of the enclosed communities looked strikingly similar to past
garden city projects.
Image borrowed from Waltopia. The similarities between Disney s dream and that of Ebenezer
Howard are striking. Howard s Garden city was designed in concentric circles with the center of all
the circles being a large garden and park that was encircled by a Crystal Palace. In EPCOT, rings that
formed the concentric layout of the city would divide the town. The outer most circle would consist of
the most modern houses of the time, and would perpetually be remodeled to incorporate the latest
technology (Waltopia.com, 1999). The middle ring would consist of a massive green belt that would
include churches, playgrounds, and schools. The innermost ring, and the most spectacular of all would
be enclosed by a dome and would provide immediate access to the center of town. The hub of the
innermost ring would be accented by an enormous and modern 30 story hotel that would act as the
center of commerce for the city, much like the Crystal Palace did for Ebenezer s Garden City. As with
most planned communities of the time such as Levittown and the Greenbelt Programs, the community
members would be selected in order to form the most ideal society as possible and isolate them from
the dangers of traditional public life. As Walt Disney

Hospital must be approach (a), leading demand with an incremental expansion. The reason for this is
that it is evident that Arnold Palmer Hospital is attempting to acquire capacity to stay ahead of
demand, or in other words by leading capacity, on account of the fact that the opening of the new 11
store hospital building will increase yearly birthing capacity to 16,000, which is far above the

Learning Can Not Be Based Off Of One Certain Type Of...
There are many learning myths in society today, many of which are incorrect and have no supporting
evidence. These myths fall from learning styles to how much brain power humans use. The fallacies
cause many students to fail if they feel they don t fit into these myths. Debunking common
misunderstood styles of learning will allow the learner to achieve in any subject. Learning styles,
cramming, and brain usage all are common myths that are believed by many student. Learning should
not be based off of one certain type of learner, or the ideal student. This provides a thought of no room
for improvement if one doesn t learn the right way , I agree we learn differently, but I believe making
students all learn the same way in insufficient. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This common misconception could be harmful to students because it provides an excuse to their
shortfalls instead of forcing them to adapt to their situation and becoming stronger because of it. As it
also limits students and will create a misconception in the students brain that they aren t good enough
or smart enough, just because they have a different learning style. Another common belief is that if
someone waits until the last minute to study for a test, they will be under more pressure and therefore
perform better. This is another misconception because cramming for a test does not actually help you
retain information better. The people who believe this simply have not developed the discipline or
effort to study consistently so they procrastinate until the last minute to begin their studying, which
hurts them in the long run. According to Study Skills, the best solution to this is to divide one s study
time over a period of days and weeks, so that there s not that much to learn when it s time for a test.
This is excellent advice that has been proven time and time again to improve test scores and
performance overall. All someone must do is study efficiently and they will be able to remember
enough to perform well on almost any test in any instance. Studying efficiently comes from
experiencing different studying styles,

Gun Control Vs. Gun Rights
Karley Campbell Intro to Criminal Justice Reflection Paper One: Gun Control Vs. Gun Rights
Whether you gather your information from the newspaper, radio, or a website, you have certainly been
exposed to one of the most controversial, current debates. It seems that the media refuses to stop
talking about this topic. In fact, as soon as the press over one event disappears another event seems to
revive the debate. Some citizens say that we need more restrictive gun laws. Meanwhile, other
Americans say that more guns are what is necessary. It s impossible to know what the right answer is.
However, we can investigate surrounding factors of the matter in order to gain a clearer understanding
of the controversy. That being said, I will explain ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A common phrase from this stance is the belief that the only way to stop a bad guy with a gun is a
good guy with a gun. That being said, it is justifiable to say that those who are against more gun laws
feel safer and are content with concealed carry, even on college campuses. Now that the views of each
side have been examined, it is important to analyze how crime models play a role in the gun debate.
First, the consensus model is based off the assumption that a majority of citizens in a society share the
same beliefs of right and wrong (Gaines and Miller, 2015). Second, the conflict model says that those
with economic, political and social power determine the laws (Gaines and Miller, 2015). The textbook
explains how, historically speaking, the consensus model has criminalized and decriminalized acts on
account of social norms, such as adultery. Yet, others acknowledge that social attitudes are forever
changing and that the power to change laws lies not within a community s stance, but in the interests
of powerful lawmakers. After gun massacres, the media often demonstrates a consensus model of a
push for some additional regulation. On the other hand, the conflict model is demonstrated when a
widely known organization called the National Rifle Association reaffirms their case against more
restrictive gun laws. These two models matter because they are how society determines laws such as
concealed carry and will facilitate the next decision.

Quentin Skinner Essay
Up for Interpretation or What is This Thing that Hearsay Is Not? is a journal article about how an
using the argument of another author in one s work is fine as long as it is an interpretation of the
original author s work. Quentin Skinner and Christopher Ricks have different backgrounds in
academia and therefore have different approaches to their common claim. Although both authors have
the same claim, they approach it from different angles and are able to analyze texts differently.
Quentin Skinner s main argument is that the act of interpretation principally consists in trying to
identify the nature of the intervention that some given text may be said to constitute (Skinner 1).
Skinner is a historian of belief systems prevailing in early modern Europe and treats adaptations as
contributions to preexisting texts. Co author Christopher Ricks has a different main argument than
Skinner. Ricks main argument is about texts and editing and exactly what was written (Ricks 5). Ricks
forms his argument from a literary viewpoint rather than a philosophical viewpoint like his co author
Skinner. Skinner develops his claim by referring to Machiavelli s The Prince. He analyzes how
Machiavelli quotes Cicero s argument and challenges it. Skinner states what is required is nothing

16 Years On The Street Quotes
My essay is about the quote in the book: 16 years on the street and you can learn a lot but not the
things you want to learn. This quote implies to Dallas Winston, who is seventeen years old. He spent
three years on the wild side of New York, and he was jailed at the age of ten. That contributes to his
tough personality, along with the fact that his parents don t care about him. Dallas doesn t really care
about anybody except his gang who are like his family. He treats Johnny Cade a member of the gang
like a son. This quote is about Dallas, because he was hardened by spending 16 years on the street. He
is very calm when Ponyboy and Johnny tell him how Johnny killed a Soc, which means he has
probably dealt with this kind of situation. Another reason it implies to him, because he doesn t take
criticism from anybody. He also steals regularly, and he has a very long record with the police, of
which he is proud about. When Dally gets angry, no one messes with him not even Darry, the
unofficial leader of the gang. All these reasons point to the fact that 16 years on the street has changed

Lucas v. South Carolina Coastal Council Essay
Lucas v. South Carolina Coastal Council
Problem: David H. Lucas purchased two beach front lots on Isle of Palms in Charleston county in
1986 for 900,000 with intent to later build one single family home on each lot. The following year
when South Carolina conducted a survey of the coast line the rustles showed that the beaches of South
Carolina were critically eroding. Due to the rustles of the survey South Carolina issued the Beachfront
Management Act (BMA). The act placed restraints on the usage of land along the coast line, and
because the building line was moved inward Lucas lots were affected with no exceptions provided.

The court agreed that Lucas had suffered a total loss of the value of his property and concluded that
regulatory taking had occurred. On appeal, the South Carolina Supreme Court revised the decision, on
the grounds that the BMA had been passed to prevent serious harm to the public. Lucas petitioned the
U.S. Supreme Court to review the case and the Court sided with Lucas saying that the Beachfront
Management Act of 1988 had not been designed to benefit the state in obtaining land for public use,
but was to prevent harm to the public. The Court ruled that Lucas suffered a taking, and that his
property was rendered valueless by South Carolina statue and that he was entitled to just
compensation as stated in the fifth and fourteen adamants of our Constitution. Significance: Although
the South Carolina Supreme Court decided that state regulations were designed to prevent serious
public harm, the U.S. Supreme Court held that when a property owner suffered a taking, there were no
exceptions from common rule ( the Takings Clause and the just Compensation Clause). Furthermore,
when the state of South Carolina amended its original statute by including provisions that might
permit limited construction, the U.S. Supreme Court held that property owners must still be
compensated. Even when legislation later renders the initial act less restrictive,

fats. Fats from unhealthy food trigger the brain to want more. If you eat unhealthy food, it can lead to
heart disease. For the past 30 years, the number of overweight teenagers has been tripled and also the
number of overweight children has been doubled. Making food healthier will benefit all Americans,

Junk food is also readily available at restaurant chains across the country in the form of French fries,
chicken nuggets, shakes, soda, etc. The United States ranks ninth in life expectancy among nations in
the developed world. About 78 percent of the health care expenditures are for the treatment of chronic
disease. Junk food or fast food is okay to have occasionally, but many people eat it on a regular basis.
A study noted that regularly eating fast food leads to a chance of developing insulin resistance, which
heightens risk of developing type 2 diabetes. Fast food restaurants are linked to a greater risk of
cardiovascular health problems. Junk food is associated with an increased risk of death even after
ruling out deaths due to cardiovascular conditions. In conclusion, if we have healthier food we will
have less health problems.
Healthier food will make us a more productive country. One in three children are physically active
every day. I feel that if food was healthier then that would not happen. Eating well balanced, healthy
food can help you reduce or maintain your weight. The food we eat affects us more than we realize.
Obese people are less productive in the workplace and more prone to injury, a study claims. One

Positive Changes In The Progressive Era
As the world came into a new century, United States flew to a new era. No longer were Americans
willing to huddle in the shadows of their rich neighbors, no longer were they willing to be used as
cheap labor, and no longer were they willing to stay quiet. The Progressive Era hit United States with
full force, screeching to halt corruption and sexist discrimination. However, as one part of Americans
experienced positive change the other part was discriminated against. The Progressive Movement
changed America extensively, yet that change was not positive for all.
A central issue of the Progressive Movement was political corruption. For many years Political
Machines plagued urban areas, bribing immigrants for votes in exchange for jobs. Moreover,
government positions were awarded for political affiliation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

During the early 1900 s many progressives were females looking to legacy of positive change. A large
reform movement that women were involved in was the Settlement House movement. Popularized by
Jane Addams and Ellen Gates Starr who opened the Hull House, Settlement Houses boarded middle
class workers (many females) that would live in between urban slums to help out the poor though
medical knowledge and the sharing of education. These types of reforms not only helped the poor and
unfortunate, but also granted females more power. Female organizations, like the National American
Woman Suffrage Association, grew in size, and females were able to transform their traditional social
roles into public and political roles. Through these types of reforms, women were able to obtain
broader support for female suffrage, and in 1920 the 19th amendment was adopted prohibiting the
government from denying U.S. citizens the right to vote based on gender. While the Progressive Era
was progressively transforming the lives of females for the better, minorities seemed to have been left

Taking a closer read at Haroun and the Sea of Stories
1. Identify explain 5 symbols found in text.
Although Haroun and the sea of stories is a children s literature, symbols which overlap as archetypes
are used to make this novel contain a deeper meaning and be just as enjoyable for adults.
Weather in this story symbolizes the current feeling or emotion of the characters. Dull, gloomy days
often occurred when the character is depressed: this sudden mist positively stank of sadness and
gloom (47). This symbol is clearly evident when Haroun traveled to Moody land, the sun would shine
all night is there were enough joyful people around, and it would go on shining until the endless
sunshine got on their nerves; then an irritable night would fall a night full of mutterings and
discontent, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An example is the June 9th, 1985 student demonstration at Tian An Men square in China. The
government attempted to stop the media from exposing this event to the public; they also attempted to
wipe out any written records of this afterwards. This is similar to how certain Chupwalas in Haroun
stitched their mouths, or vowed to remain silent under the orders of Khattam Shud who tried to stop
the relay of information in his kingdom so to speak.
3. Detail 3 instances in the text where the power of story is alluded to. Explain
The power of story is often referred to in this novel. For example, on page 72, the stories were held
here in fluid form, they retained the ability to change, to become new versions of themselves, to join
up with other stories and so become yet other stories...It was not dead but alive. This means that there
are many variations to one idea or one story. Old tales combined with imagination can be made into
new pieces of work. no story comes from nowhere; new stories are born from old it is the new
combinations that make them new. (86) There is an endless possibility and no limitations on what the
story is about because new ones can always be made.
Whether it s the adventure or the escape from reality that stories provide, or that fact that it takes your
mind away from tension, some people, and personally I believe that stories have the ability to relieve
stress. The power of story is implied in Haroun: you can offer [Story

Espionage In Chronicle Of A Death Foretold By Gabriel...
Espionage has always been a crucial part of any war s success. It is vital to know what the enemy is
planning to do and when they plan to execute their plans. This vital need has always caused the need
for spies to conduct the espionage on enemies. However, the information that the spies collected was
only as valuable as the amount of trust placed on a spy. A spy can gather information on enemies plans
and report back to their boss, but if the boss does not trust the spy it could cause vital information to
go unnoticed or not receive the proper urgency. These doubts about notes and letters are not limited to
spymasters alone, many everyday citizens rely on the letters and notes of others. In his novel
Chronicle of a Death Foretold, Gabriel García Márquez uses letters and notes written between
characters as a metaphor to represent the doubts the characters have about the information they are
receiving. In order to better understand Márquez s metaphor the letters Angela receives from her
mother about San Roman, the letters returned to Nasar by his fiancée, and the letters written to San
Roman from Angela can all be further examined. In the first letter sent to Angela at school, Márquez
illustrates a mysterious new man who has arrived in town The strange man is called Bayardo San

The Causes Of Civil War
Solomon Otubo Asst. Proff. Gülay Uğuru Göksel
What are the causes of Civil War? Do ethnic determinants play an important role? Why are certain
parts of Africa characterized by ethnic conflict while other parts remain relatively calm?
The conventional understanding on the causes of civil war especially within African countries, to a
considerable degree, has being predominantly characterized to draw its root on ethnic divergences.
However, such premise appear extremely difficult to be true, owing to the fact that civil war is a
complex action and requires the interplay of different variables to make it visible. Nonetheless, the
role of ethnic differences in determining civil war cannot be overemphasized. But generalizing ethnic
differences as a prime factor that result to civil war sounds unreasonable irrespective of what the
actors pretend or claim to have motivated them. For instance, all most every country in Africa is multi
ethnic oriented state, and in such a cross cultural environment, it is usual for the minority to lay claim
of being short changed either one way or the other. However not all the African countries have
witnessed civil war. Within such context one can draw a logical conclusion that there are other
variables which directly or indirectly play an interwoven role with ethnicism, or hide under the
umbrella of ethnic diversities to cause civil war.
In this paper I will develop a constructive model which shows the correlation of different variables as

Relations Between the United States and Japan Before...
Relations Between the United States and Japan Before September 1941
Japan was no longer able to rely on itself for food and raw materials and, so, for Japan to survive and
prosper it would have to modernise and adopt Western technology. Japan was a medieval country but
had managed to beat Russia in the war in 1905. They joined Britain in the War against Germany. On
the 7th September 1914, they took over Germanys interests in China, but weren t given any credit for
the war. The Japanese demanded the right to send experts as advisors to the Chinese Government.

However, they had fundamental problems. Economically, they had no farmland, there already
increasing population was on the rise and there were no raw materials for them to use. The country
was in a mess politically. There were fights against rival groups, and bribery and corruption among
Politians. Most of the older Japanese people hated the idea of democracy including members of the
Diet.
The impact of the Wall St. Crash hit Japan very hard. She was badly hit since her industrial strength
depended on exports. These were cut by 50%. Declining trade hit workers such as the peasant farmers
who cultivated silk. Many peasants had to take a two thirds cut in income. Without exports, Japan
couldn t afford to buy the imports it needed like oil and coal. Workers tried strikes and riots. Militant
army officers came from peasant homes and resented the circumstances which made their families
poor.
The military became more powerful. It emphasised war as a way of solving problems. In 1930, the
Japanese Prime Minister was assassinated at Tokyo s rail station. He signed the London Naval Treaty,
this extended terms agreed at the Washington Conference. Extremists in the Japanese Army and Navy
saw this as treason and he was killed. In September 1931, Japanese troops were in Manchuria to
protect a railway system used to transport raw materials but seized control of

worlds that are completely alien and unfamiliar to them. With stress levels above what normal

What I Have Learned
Over the past few months, taking Geography has really helped me develop an understanding of
several different things. This first thing I learned in this class that really stuck with me this whole
semester is what exactly the term geography actually means. Before I took this class I thought
geography was just capitals of states and countries, and names of rivers and mountains. I thought it
was just a basic course to learn a little bit more about the name of places all around the globe. Come to
find out, that is not at all what geography has to offer. During this class I have learned many of the
basic things I figured I would learn like capitals and names of places but I have also learned so much
more than just that. With that being said, I have also learned what the climate is like in different
places, for example, in Europe they have a marine like climate with cool and moist winters. I have
also learned how to determine if a city is safe and or healthy to be living in, and what kind of other
cultures and languages different countries have throughout the world. In Europe, they have several
different languages but the few that really stuck out to me were Germanic, Romance, and Slavic. I was
really surprised learning about all these different languages because I had no idea they had such a
wide variety of languages in that area. In addition to learning about the climates and languages, I have
learned how much different farming is all around the world as.

Common Stereotypes In Native American Film

The Human Pancreas Is An Organ Of Both Endocrine And Exocrine
The human pancreas is an organ of both endocrine and exocrine function in regulating blood sugars
and aiding in digestion respectively. About 95 percent of the human pancreas is made of exocrine
tissue and the remaining of endocrine. In exocrine glands, secretions flow through ducts into a body
cavity, such as the nasal passage or urinary tract, rather than directly into the circulation of the
bloodstream, which is a characteristic of the endocrine pancreas.
The exocrine pancreas is split into two major substituents, the acini and the duct system, each
comprised of intralobular and interlobular components.
The acinar cells secrete digestive enzymes, which are also synthesized here. The name of these
enzyme secreting units comes from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These epithelial cells protrude short microvilli from their surface, which contain an abundance of
secretory granules, secreting fluids, which make up the majority of pancreatic juices. Epithelial cells
found in the main pancreatic duct are analogous in structure to those of the interlobular ducts. Both
sections of the duct system have thick, collagenous walls. Leakage prevention of the duct system is
carried out by the Zonula Occludens intercellular tight junctions between the duct and acinar cells.
The pancreatic duct, also known as the duct of Wirsung, connects the pancreas to the bile duct. Hence,
allowing the pancreatic juices to be transported to the gall bladder to fuse with bile, aiding in digestion
and neutralization of gastric acids.
In the case of the exocrine glands, secretions consist of aqueous mixtures. Enzyme secretion in the
pancreas is stimulated by the vagus and a hormone called pancreozymin, which is formed when it is
exposed to proteoses or peptones. The pancreas releases 1000 to 1500 ml of pancreatic juice into the
pancreatic duct each day. Secretions of the pancreas consists of two principal constituents, an alkaline
fluid and enzymes such as lipase, protease and α amylase that are necessary for digestion of fats,
proteins and carbohydrates in vertebrates respectively. Other enzymes present include trypsin,
chymotrypsin and colipase.
The pancreas secretes most of these enzymes as inactive precursors

Why I Am A Bad Writer
From the time I was in about fourth or fifth grade I began to dislike certain subjects in school. I
loathed everything about writing assignments. I didn t write at home before that the thought of writing
for myself never really occurred to me. I hated the deadlines the length requirements and I just tried to
get them done and had no intention of writing well because I told myself I was a bad writer. I have
never really known whether or not I truly am a bad writer. I continued these habits of just writing
something down to get a decent grade all throughout school. I usually got an okay grade because I
followed the prompt closely and did the minimum amount of work for the paper. I didn t start the
assignments until either the night before it was due. As I got older I would type the paper on my phone
in school that day then print it off in the library moments before class. I continued writing in that
awful ritual of complacency until the end of 11th grade. We had to write a paper on The Great Gatsby
a book that I never read. I read couple of notes on the internet and then wrote the paper and never
reread it or edited it all. I did my usual routine and followed the prompt and turned my paper in. When
I got my paper back I was shocked to find out I didn t get even a half decent grade I was given a zero.
I went to my teacher after class to speak with him about the grade and he told me I got the grade that I
deserved. He said I was lazy and never tried to truly work in

fame when he published The Pickwick Papers. One of the many books he published was Oliver Twist
and this story was one that he related too, because like this story Dickens had little education as a
child and had to work as a child after his father was thrown into prison; however like the story goes he
did not give up and made the most out of the life that he had ( Life of Charles Dickens ). The book
Oliver Twist is a story about a young boy named Oliver Twist. Oliver is an orphan that everyone sees
as a nuisance that is too naive to ever be more than just a hungry little boy. Unfortunately Oliver was
abused from everyone that was older or in a higher ranking position than him, however, this was not
uncommon almost every poor person was abused by the middle class or anyone that had more than an
empty stomach to their name. Just like the different types of classes that are present today in this book,

Music Programs Throughout The United States
Music programs throughout the United States are making quite the hurrah, and yet seem to never be
heard by the classmates and staff that walk the same halls as them. The lack of appreciation of the
music and arts programs throughout America is astonishing, and heartbreaking to many of the
students, parents, and staff that are involved with them. There are more than a few causes that can be
held responsible, however the main three are a lack of funding, lack of support from administration
and staff, and the lack of equal support amongst students involved in different activities, such as
sports, clubs, and music programs, all of which have led to a decrease in student participation in
music. However, there may be a solution in sight, with the help of some creative thinking on the part
of the administration, the support of the staff members, and the acknowledgment of the student body.
There are many benefits to music. It s a way for students to express themselves, create bonds, learn
life skills, and improve their minds. Studies have shown that music can benefit a student academically,
as well as mentally. Not only that, but if introduced in earlier childhood, music can actually help a
child with their linguistic development. As stated by Laura Lewis Brown in her article The Benefits of
Music Education, While children come into the world ready to decode sounds and words, music
education helps enhance those natural abilities. (1). I have been in band since I was in the

  • 2. Roman Architecture Essay When one thinks of Roman architecture, many things come to mind, such as arches, columns, statues, and richly covered surfaces in marbles. One must stop to think that this empire, which gained power and influence in the first century BC, must have been influenced from the thousands of years of cultures preceding them in order to create their masterpieces of ingenuity. This phenomenon can be seen in our borrowing of ideas of ancient Greece and Rome for the construction of our capitol buildings in the United States. The Romans surely considered design principles of other cultures when developing their buildings, since daily conquests of new lands opened Roman soldiers eyes to innovations from the great vastness of their empire. Doing so, he managed to design the most captivating section of his estate, the Great Canopus and Serapeum, which have roots in ancient architecture, while also displaying Hadrian s own capability to produce innovative designs through many different elements of their construction. Ancient Egypt, which lasted as a powerful empire from 3150 to 30 BC, left a huge legacy on the world of construction and architecture. Although their architecture revolved around veneration of the dead, it served as inspiration to many Greek buildings and as a key source for Hadrian s Canopus design. Through his travels to Alexandria, Egypt, Hadrian was inspired for the overall design of the estate by attempting to recreate an Alexandrian garden with sacred landscapes, as seen through the Villa s structures conforming to the terrain. Unfortunately, in the 16th century AD, these example of an Alexandrian garden, created through the use of statuary and fountains were removed from Hadrian s villa and re used in order to create a Renaissance garden based upon Roman ideals of gardening. The large lake in the center of the Canopus is representative of a branch of the Nile River that connects Alexandria to the Egyptian city of Canopus on the Nile Delta, for which this section of his villa was named after. People choose to think critically because they want to see what other don t. What I believe that critical thinking means is to look at something from every angle possible and to think about why or how it s important. A lot of readers that I know tend to think critically because it allows them to dissect what is written and gain more from a story aside from the normal enjoyment of just reading the book. Between 1840 1898 there were a variety of acts put in place in Great Britain. One of the vaccination acts that anti vaccinators felt imposed on their rights was the Vaccination Act of 1853: The Vaccination Act of 1853 made vaccination compulsory for all infants in the first three months of life and made defaulting parents liable to a fine or imprisonment ( Anti vaccinations ). Despite their minority status, they often surpass Whites in America and do so while holding on to their cultural values regarding family, education, and success. Cultural Values Toward Education The Asian group has strong standards regarding academic success. The United States Census Bureau reported that the percentage of Asian Americans to possess a bachelor s degree or higher increased by 54% which shows a significant increase within the past 20 years (United States Census Bureau, 2016). Throughout much of Asia, children are taught at an early age to believe that education is the only path to success. While they are a distinct minority, their indicators of success in terms of education and future income occur because of the unique style of parenting which is based on the belief of the philosopher Confucius. Within their culture, they are taught to work on self perfection which will help them achieve self improvement in qualities such as diligence, determination, and concentration (Seal, 2010). Parents, family members, and their community assume the responsibility for teaching and disciplining children. Furthermore, they instill the belief that a child s achievement or lack thereof is a direct reflection on the efforts of the entire family and community (Chen Uttal, 1988). Some of the exhibits displayed at the 1939 World s Fair such as Democracity and Futurama influenced many American community planners. The Levittown and Greenbelt projects followed the same guidelines of community that the 1939 World s Fair introduced. These are two of the more well known Garden City projects that took many families away from big cities and brought them to the peace and tranquility of the suburbs. Image borrowed from Waltopia. The similarities between Disney s dream and that of Ebenezer Howard are striking. Howard s Garden city was designed in concentric circles with the center of all the circles being a large garden and park that was encircled by a Crystal Palace. In EPCOT, rings that formed the concentric layout of the city would divide the town. The outer most circle would consist of the most modern houses of the time, and would perpetually be remodeled to incorporate the latest technology (Waltopia.com, 1999). The middle ring would consist of a massive green belt that would include churches, playgrounds, and schools. The innermost ring, and the most spectacular of all would be enclosed by a dome and would provide immediate access to the center of town. The hub of the innermost ring would be accented by an enormous and modern 30 story hotel that would act as the center of commerce for the city, much like the Crystal Palace did for Ebenezer s Garden City. • 11. Learning Can Not Be Based Off Of One Certain Type Of... There are many learning myths in society today, many of which are incorrect and have no supporting evidence. These myths fall from learning styles to how much brain power humans use. The fallacies cause many students to fail if they feel they don t fit into these myths. Debunking common misunderstood styles of learning will allow the learner to achieve in any subject. Learning styles, cramming, and brain usage all are common myths that are believed by many student. Learning should not be based off of one certain type of learner, or the ideal student. This common misconception could be harmful to students because it provides an excuse to their shortfalls instead of forcing them to adapt to their situation and becoming stronger because of it. As it also limits students and will create a misconception in the students brain that they aren t good enough or smart enough, just because they have a different learning style. Another common belief is that if someone waits until the last minute to study for a test, they will be under more pressure and therefore perform better. This is another misconception because cramming for a test does not actually help you retain information better. The people who believe this simply have not developed the discipline or effort to study consistently so they procrastinate until the last minute to begin their studying, which hurts them in the long run. According to Study Skills, the best solution to this is to divide one s study time over a period of days and weeks, so that there s not that much to learn when it s time for a test. This is excellent advice that has been proven time and time again to improve test scores and performance overall. All someone must do is study efficiently and they will be able to remember enough to perform well on almost any test in any instance. It seems that the media refuses to stop talking about this topic. In fact, as soon as the press over one event disappears another event seems to revive the debate. Some citizens say that we need more restrictive gun laws. Meanwhile, other Americans say that more guns are what is necessary. It s impossible to know what the right answer is. A common phrase from this stance is the belief that the only way to stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun. That being said, it is justifiable to say that those who are against more gun laws feel safer and are content with concealed carry, even on college campuses. Now that the views of each side have been examined, it is important to analyze how crime models play a role in the gun debate. First, the consensus model is based off the assumption that a majority of citizens in a society share the same beliefs of right and wrong (Gaines and Miller, 2015). Second, the conflict model says that those with economic, political and social power determine the laws (Gaines and Miller, 2015). The textbook explains how, historically speaking, the consensus model has criminalized and decriminalized acts on account of social norms, such as adultery. Yet, others acknowledge that social attitudes are forever changing and that the power to change laws lies not within a community s stance, but in the interests of powerful lawmakers. After gun massacres, the media often demonstrates a consensus model of a push for some additional regulation. On the other hand, the conflict model is demonstrated when a widely known organization called the National Rifle Association reaffirms their case against more restrictive gun laws. These two models matter because they are how society determines laws such as concealed carry and will facilitate the next decision. ... Quentin Skinner Essay Up for Interpretation or What is This Thing that Hearsay Is Not? is a journal article about how an using the argument of another author in one s work is fine as long as it is an interpretation of the original author s work. Quentin Skinner and Christopher Ricks have different backgrounds in academia and therefore have different approaches to their common claim. Although both authors have the same claim, they approach it from different angles and are able to analyze texts differently. Quentin Skinner s main argument is that the act of interpretation principally consists in trying to identify the nature of the intervention that some given text may be said to constitute (Skinner 1). Skinner is a historian of belief systems prevailing in early modern Europe and treats adaptations as contributions to preexisting texts. Co author Christopher Ricks has a different main argument than Skinner. Ricks main argument is about texts and editing and exactly what was written (Ricks 5). Ricks forms his argument from a literary viewpoint rather than a philosophical viewpoint like his co author Skinner. Skinner develops his claim by referring to Machiavelli s The Prince. The following year when South Carolina conducted a survey of the coast line the rustles showed that the beaches of South Carolina were critically eroding. Due to the rustles of the survey South Carolina issued the Beachfront Management Act (BMA). On appeal, the South Carolina Supreme Court revised the decision, on the grounds that the BMA had been passed to prevent serious harm to the public. Lucas petitioned the U.S. Supreme Court to review the case and the Court sided with Lucas saying that the Beachfront Management Act of 1988 had not been designed to benefit the state in obtaining land for public use, but was to prevent harm to the public. The Court ruled that Lucas suffered a taking, and that his property was rendered valueless by South Carolina statue and that he was entitled to just compensation as stated in the fifth and fourteen adamants of our Constitution. Significance: Although the South Carolina Supreme Court decided that state regulations were designed to prevent serious public harm, the U.S. Supreme Court held that when a property owner suffered a taking, there were no exceptions from common rule ( the Takings Clause and the just Compensation Clause). It is vital to know what the enemy is planning to do and when they plan to execute their plans. This vital need has always caused the need for spies to conduct the espionage on enemies. However, the information that the spies collected was only as valuable as the amount of trust placed on a spy. A spy can gather information on enemies plans and report back to their boss, but if the boss does not trust the spy it could cause vital information to go unnoticed or not receive the proper urgency. These doubts about notes and letters are not limited to spymasters alone, many everyday citizens rely on the letters and notes of others. Why are certain parts of Africa characterized by ethnic conflict while other parts remain relatively calm? The conventional understanding on the causes of civil war especially within African countries, to a considerable degree, has being predominantly characterized to draw its root on ethnic divergences. However, such premise appear extremely difficult to be true, owing to the fact that civil war is a complex action and requires the interplay of different variables to make it visible. Nonetheless, the role of ethnic differences in determining civil war cannot be overemphasized. But generalizing ethnic differences as a prime factor that result to civil war sounds unreasonable irrespective of what the actors pretend or claim to have motivated them. For instance, all most every country in Africa is multi ethnic oriented state, and in such a cross cultural environment, it is usual for the minority to lay claim of being short changed either one way or the other. However not all the African countries have witnessed civil war. Within such context one can draw a logical conclusion that there are other variables which directly or indirectly play an interwoven role with ethnicism, or hide under the umbrella of ethnic diversities to cause civil war. Jupiter has the largest planetary atmosphere in the Solar system. The composition of the atmosphere is mainly molecular hydrogen and helium. Although water exists deep in the atmosphere layer, the concentration is comparatively very small. (Mahaffy et al., 1998) Until now, there have been no satellites sent on to the Jupiter. Only eight spacecraft sent to bring back information. The eight spacecraft were Pioneer 10, Pioneer 11, Voyager 1, Voyager 2, Galileo, Ulysses, Cassini, and New Horizons. (Tritonfun, 2008) Among these eight spacecraft, five of them are from NASA. For this mission, an artificial manufactured satellite that functions as an orbiter will be send to the orbit of the Jupiter to study its enormous atmosphere and the weather on the Jupiter. The Thing Around Your Neck by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie highlights the often challenging lives of Nigerian women living in Africa, but also abroad in the United States. It is however, not the difficulties which Adichie is ultimately focusing on, but the courage and intelligence of women who are able to make small victories , overcoming various attempts of cultural oppression. Adichie s characters are subject to cultural suppression in several of the short stories. This is most pronounced in The Arrangers of Marriage where Chinaza is forced by her husband to assimilate to her new surroundings by ridding herself of all signs of being Nigerian, ... • 35. Descriptive Essay About Geography What I Have Learned Over the past few months, taking Geography has really helped me develop an understanding of several different things. This first thing I learned in this class that really stuck with me this whole semester is what exactly the term geography actually means. Before I took this class I thought geography was just capitals of states and countries, and names of rivers and mountains. I thought it was just a basic course to learn a little bit more about the name of places all around the globe. Come to find out, that is not at all what geography has to offer. During this class I have learned many of the basic things I figured I would learn like capitals and names of places but I have also learned so much more than just that. With that being said, I have also learned what the climate is like in different places, for example, in Europe they have a marine like climate with cool and moist winters. I have also learned how to determine if a city is safe and or healthy to be living in, and what kind of other cultures and languages different countries have throughout the world. In Europe, they have several different languages but the few that really stuck out to me were Germanic, Romance, and Slavic. I was really surprised learning about all these different languages because I had no idea they had such a wide variety of languages in that area. In addition to learning about the climates and languages, I have learned how much different farming is all around the world as. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, the Comanche Massacre shattered his hopes. This made him swear to himself that he would pursue all his relatives and bring them home. Together with his Indian nephew Martin, he embarked on a long journey in search for his niece, who had been kidnapped by the Indians. In the process of the search, Martin correctly suspects his uncle of intending to kill his niece, as she had been defiled by being assimilated by the Indians (Owens). Just like in many others films, it did not take long to know that Indians inhabited a troubled and troubling space in John Wayne s movies (Owens). • 37. The Human Pancreas Is An Organ Of Both Endocrine And Exocrine The human pancreas is an organ of both endocrine and exocrine function in regulating blood sugars and aiding in digestion respectively. About 95 percent of the human pancreas is made of exocrine tissue and the remaining of endocrine. In exocrine glands, secretions flow through ducts into a body cavity, such as the nasal passage or urinary tract, rather than directly into the circulation of the bloodstream, which is a characteristic of the endocrine pancreas. The exocrine pancreas is split into two major substituents, the acini and the duct system, each comprised of intralobular and interlobular components. The acinar cells secrete digestive enzymes, which are also synthesized here. The name of these enzyme secreting units comes from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These epithelial cells protrude short microvilli from their surface, which contain an abundance of secretory granules, secreting fluids, which make up the majority of pancreatic juices. Epithelial cells found in the main pancreatic duct are analogous in structure to those of the interlobular ducts. Both sections of the duct system have thick, collagenous walls. Leakage prevention of the duct system is carried out by the Zonula Occludens intercellular tight junctions between the duct and acinar cells. The pancreatic duct, also known as the duct of Wirsung, connects the pancreas to the bile duct. Hence, allowing the pancreatic juices to be transported to the gall bladder to fuse with bile, aiding in digestion and neutralization of gastric acids. In the case of the exocrine glands, secretions consist of aqueous mixtures. Enzyme secretion in the pancreas is stimulated by the vagus and a hormone called pancreozymin, which is formed when it is exposed to proteoses or peptones. The pancreas releases 1000 to 1500 ml of pancreatic juice into the pancreatic duct each day. Secretions of the pancreas consists of two principal constituents, an alkaline fluid and enzymes such as lipase, protease and α amylase that are necessary for digestion of fats, proteins and carbohydrates in vertebrates respectively. Other enzymes present include trypsin, chymotrypsin and colipase. The pancreas secretes most of these enzymes as inactive precursors ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Why I Am A Bad Writer From the time I was in about fourth or fifth grade I began to dislike certain subjects in school. I loathed everything about writing assignments. I didn t write at home before that the thought of writing for myself never really occurred to me. I hated the deadlines the length requirements and I just tried to get them done and had no intention of writing well because I told myself I was a bad writer. I have never really known whether or not I truly am a bad writer. I continued these habits of just writing something down to get a decent grade all throughout school. I usually got an okay grade because I followed the prompt closely and did the minimum amount of work for the paper. I didn t start the assignments until either the night before it was due. As I got older I would type the paper on my phone in school that day then print it off in the library moments before class. I continued writing in that awful ritual of complacency until the end of 11th grade. We had to write a paper on The Great Gatsby a book that I never read. I read couple of notes on the internet and then wrote the paper and never reread it or edited it all. I did my usual routine and followed the prompt and turned my paper in. When I got my paper back I was shocked to find out I didn t get even a half decent grade I was given a zero. • 40. Oliver Twist By Charles Dickens Charles Dickens, the author of Oliver Twist. Charles Dickens was born on February 7th, 1812 in Landport, England, and then died on June 9th, 1870 in Kent, England. In his 58 years of life he made a collection of books that are still famous today; although it was not until 1836 that he started to come to fame when he published The Pickwick Papers. One of the many books he published was Oliver Twist and this story was one that he related too, because like this story Dickens had little education as a child and had to work as a child after his father was thrown into prison; however like the story goes he did not give up and made the most out of the life that he had ( Life of Charles Dickens ). The book Oliver Twist is a story about a young boy named Oliver Twist. Oliver is an orphan that everyone sees as a nuisance that is too naive to ever be more than just a hungry little boy. Unfortunately Oliver was abused from everyone that was older or in a higher ranking position than him, however, this was not uncommon almost every poor person was abused by the middle class or anyone that had more than an empty stomach to their name. Just like the different types of classes that are present today in this book, they had the same four classes then the upper class, middle class, working class, and the lower class; and each one of these classes influenced the world differently. • 41. Music Programs Throughout The United States Music programs throughout the United States are making quite the hurrah, and yet seem to never be heard by the classmates and staff that walk the same halls as them. The lack of appreciation of the music and arts programs throughout America is astonishing, and heartbreaking to many of the students, parents, and staff that are involved with them. There are more than a few causes that can be held responsible, however the main three are a lack of funding, lack of support from administration and staff, and the lack of equal support amongst students involved in different activities, such as sports, clubs, and music programs, all of which have led to a decrease in student participation in music. However, there may be a solution in sight, with the help of some creative thinking on the part of the administration, the support of the staff members, and the acknowledgment of the student body. There are many benefits to music. It s a way for students to express themselves, create bonds, learn life skills, and improve their minds. Studies have shown that music can benefit a student academically, as well as mentally. Not only that, but if introduced in earlier childhood, music can actually help a child with their linguistic development. As stated by Laura Lewis Brown in her article The Benefits of Music Education, While children come into the world ready to decode sounds and words, music education helps enhance those natural abilities.
