Perioperative Observation Paper

Abstract
As a clinical requirement for my Adult 1: Medical Surgical course, I had the opportunity to
observe a patient in the Operating Room and in the Post Anesthesia Unit of Advocate Good
Samaritan Hospital. The procedure that I observed was a left total knee replacement. The patient
needed this surgery because she was experiencing osteoarthritis, and this surgery could alleviate her
pain and discomfort. I was with the patient from the end of her stay in the pre operative holding
area to the Operating Room, and then to the Post Anesthesia Care Unit. This paper will include

X rays can be used for the diagnosis of osteoarthritis; the images would reveal damage and other
changes related to osteoarthritis. With osteoarthritis of the knees, the patient would experience
progressively increasing pain, stiffness, and they would have a decrease in daily functions.
Patients experiencing these symptoms can be eligible for a total knee replacement. The surgical
procedure. A total knee replacement is a surgical procedure where the diseased knee joint is
completely replaced by artificial materials that resemble the original knee joint. The orthopedic
surgeon removed the end of the femur and the end of the tibia by using metal pieces and sawing
the bone, to ensure that he removes the right amount of bone. The end of the femur bone is
replaced with metal and the end of the tibia bone is replaced with plastic and metal. A plastic
piece was added under the patella because the surface under the patella was damaged as well.
These artificial materials, called prosthesis, have smooth surfaces so when they rub against each
other, it does not cause damage and is pain free. The purpose of this surgery is to remove the
diseased portions of the joint and replace it with artificial materials to prevent further deterioration
and eliminate pain, stiffness, and decreases in function that were caused by the osteoarthritis.
Preoperative and Operative Phase The surgical suite was clean, well lit, and very organized. All of

Sympathizing with Brutus of William Shakespeare s Julius...
Sympathizing with Brutus of William Shakespeare s Julius Caesar
Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare is an interesting and complex play based on historical
events that took place in Rome in 44 BC. The plot revolves around the assassination of Julius
Caesar by his closest friend Marcus Brutus, and Marc Antony s attempt to avenge his death. The
play portrays many important themes that are still relevant in today s society like the struggle for
political power; love and friendship; the fallibility of men; and the fickleness of common people.
Despite the title of the play, Brutus is the main character, and the most important in the group of
conspirators that murder Julius Caesar.

However, one might argue that that foretelling Caesar to be a tyrant is deeply flawed and wrong.
How can Brutus be so sure that Caesar will become a tyrant? There is no way that Brutus can be
one hundred percent sure. One would say Brutus argument is very weak and there was insufficient
evidence pointing to any form of tyrannical behaviour from Caesar thus the killing of Caesar
completely unjustified.
Brutus is a considerate and honourable man because of his patriotism towards Rome and their
people. Throughout the whole play, his intentions are for the goodness of Rome …if then that
friend demand why Brutus rose against Caesar, this is my answer not that I loved Caesar less but
that I loved Rome more. He killed Caesar because of his concerns for Rome, and everything that
he did was for the benefit of someone else.
Even Marc Antony still recognised Brutus as the noblest Roman of them all. After his death he
says This was the noblest Roman of them all; all the conspirators save only he did that they did in
envy of great Caesar; he, only, in a general honest thought and common good to all... Anthony is
basically saying that everyone in the conspiracy except Brutus killed Caesar out of jealousy. But
Brutus killed Caesar because of his worry for the

Homelessness Is A Major Topic Affecting The United States...
AbstractHomelessness is a major topic affecting the United States and other parts of the world; it
is a very complex issue that affects the community from an economic and a social perspective
(Clapham). This paper will focus on how urbanization has played a role in the homeless population
and homelessness in general; we will also look at the recent reports that homelessnessis on a slight
decline. We will propose ideas on what we can do to affect homelessness as well. Defining what
exactly it is to be homeless and the difference between homelessness and homeless was very
difficult to do as numerous sources gave very difference responses with categories and
subcategories. National statistical series contain title to no information on the homeless; the census
essentially only takes into consideration those with homes. Based on prior research primarily
conducted by Peter H. Rossi and James D. Wright along with several other sources, we are able to
propose several ideas to help reduce the amount of homelessness in the United Statesand other
countries along with more empirical data.
A lack of affordable housing has resulted in an inability to obtain adequate, appropriate, and
affordable housing; urban renewal applied federal funds to remove blighted areas. Many people
live from paycheck to paycheck just to put a roof over their head and are one paycheck away from
having no place to live. Huge expanses of houses were removed. Simply put, the housing need has

An Englishman s Social Status
According to the legislation of Virginia, the social status was based on the mother. If a slave
bears a child, even if the father is an Englishman the slave mother determined the child s social
status. Huge fines on slaves indulging in fornication were high and brutal for the slaves in the
region. March 1661 the laws against adultery were clear and if a child is born within such
parameters they and given to the parish. Fines of thousands of tobacco and been sold were the
few known ways in which slaves suffered (Johnson). In 1662, the laws against slave and child
were heightened when Englishmen started to have their way with them. In such instances, the
bastard child even after birth is rejected as the law projected those children the mother solely
determined social status. Englishmen still held in high regard even after having their way with
Negro slaves; efforts to get bastard children named as free were futile at that period. To protect
the land against the domination of Negro white children they enforced laws on the Negro slaves
to keep them bound. In many ways, the rules assigned were used to segregate and keep the Negro
slaves in check. Englishmen were also bound to certain facts such as making the choice to pay...

Offences dealt with differently ensuring that there is amicability in the situation. Even though
corporal punishment was still rampant in Virginia Negro slaves were now able to speak out and
reach out to the legislative bodies when an offence occurs. Consequently, the laws were used by
masters to serve their purpose and need; it allowed them to react and base their conviction over
disobedience. If this law was enacted to protect and safeguard the slaves, it was one of the most
abused laws in Virginia during that time. Even with the set limitations of the use of force with
servants, masters reacted by punishing their servants in more ways than one

Homecoming Failure
In my time as a student I have rarely seen latinos in positions of power. Much less in student
council, where I was the only latina up until last year. Imagine the surprise that came to me
when I found out I had been chosen to be the head of homecoming. At first, panic set in. What if
I didn t do a good job? What if homecoming failed due to my failing as a leader? If homecoming
failed, I would I give into the stereotype of an incompetent mexican? All these questions loomed
in my head. Eventually, I realized this was my chance to prove myself, and prove that others of
my race could do just as good a job as my caucasian counterparts. Once I gained confidence in my
ability to lead student council into producing a great homecoming, the initial

Here Follows Some Verses Upon the Burning of Our House, by...
The Puritan life, although simple, demanded diligence both mentally and spiritually which put
stress on even the most faithful of followers. Although the common practice entailed brushing
religious struggles under the rug, few writers bravely wrote of their religious doubts and
endeavors to become better Puritans. Author Anne Bradstreet shows in her work Here Follows
Some Verse upon the Burning of Our House, July 10th, 1666 that religious struggles are often met
by Puritans and it takes brave souls to admit their difficult time with their religion. This poem
shows a woman dealing with a religious crisis and how even though she struggles her faith still
holds strong in the end. Bradstreet s poem displays a crisis of faith in her content... Show more

These material items have become physical representations of the memories Bradstreet created with
them so the loss is a tragic psychological event. This quote also represents the struggles that the
author had with the non materialistic Puritan lifestyle. She has put so much emphases on her
material possession that she has lost sight of what is truly important, which is God. The content
expressed in this poem mirrors the materialistic struggles most Puritans felt with their faith at one
point or another. Bradstreet makes a point to show her thought process of returning to the Puritan
mindset when she begins to question herself in her poem. The following is an example: The
straight I gin my heart to chide,/And did they wealth on earth abide?/Didst fix thy hope on mold
ring dust?/The arm of flesh didst make they trust? (37 40). The repetitive notion of the author
questioning herself allows the reader to see into her thought process regarding her current struggle
with her beliefs. The author includes this process in the poem to enable the reader to fully
understand her way of thinking and ultimately makes her writing more relatable. Bradstreet
develops the content of the poem to show her external struggle to release her material possessions
and focus on the process of regaining her Puritan beliefs, however, the form of the poem speaks
louder to her unwavering internal faith. There is evidence

Mark Hurd Essay
Mark Hurd, worked as CEO of Hewlett Packard for five years. He resigned unexpectedly after
revelation came forth about him falsifying company expense reports in order to hide his personal
relationship with the company s market consultant. (Scott, R. Wong, K., 2012, p.482) Everything
came crashing down on the executive when his character was challenged when Jodie Fisher
accused Mr. Hurd of sexual harassment. Although, Mr. Hurd was cleared by the board, after their
investigation, didn t stop them from following up on a disciplinary action. Furthermore, Mr. Hurd

Mr. Hurd promised to repay the expenses that were falsified. Even though he made a promise to
repay the money he owed the company, does not justify the theft and unethical behavior. The
bible clearly states, Thou shall not steal . (Exodus 20:15, KJV) The word steal means to take
another person s property without his or her permission. The bible refers to the word to mean
deception or to carry away. Many people will try to justify their actions of stealing. They will
steal from their employers, and try to justify it by saying they aren t paid enough. Some will
steal from the rich, while trying to justify it by saying they have too much stuff anyway. This
type of behavior is far from the character of God. God is love. Out of His love He always give.
Scripture say, For God so loved the world that He gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever
believes in Him shall not perish, but have everlasting life . (John 3:16.KJV) When a person s

Genetic Engineering of Humans
Human genetic engineering in the world today has become an issue because of its many positive
uses and its probable consequences. There is no denying that it could be incredibly useful for
preventing diseases such as cancer and others before we are even born. But, with this also comes
the ability to give children genes before their born that will give them talent to run faster, jump
higher, use more of their brain that will severly distinguish them from the rest of society. Imagine

simple changes in the way we live have drastically changed our lives forever. For instance Bill
McKibben explained how divorce has become more common and has ruined the sanctity of
marriage forever. Marriage began as until death do us part but that is not the case anymore.
People will bail out a marriage at the first bad sign that shows up but in marriage you were
supposed to work your problems.
There is group from Great Britain called the Human Genetic Alert who is standing up for the same
things that Bill McKibben describes. They believe in all the benefits of genetic engineering but they
think that the commercialization of genetics and the technology has advanced too quickly for us
to consider any ethical or social consequences. There is much research proving, that with some
work we will be able to able to prevent most diseases that have plagued human race for years.
Picture a world where we would not have to worry about cancer or heart disease at all because
we would be have the vulnerability in our system fixed. The HGA is determined to make people
aware of what the problems are. The article posted by the group on their website describes ways that
genetic engineering benefits us through gene therapy, and used as preventative medicine. They

Negative Effects Of Heavy Metal
How many times have you heard, music is the voice of the soul? Music has always been a
universal common attribute among teens across the world. Music of any genre has a way of
making some people feel alive, happy, sad, or in this case, suicidal. Heavy metal, in particular, in
the 1980s had deadly consequences among teens that have listened then inversely committed suicide
. Heavy metal musicseemed to have a negative impact on the purpose of which the music is
intended, its popularity among teens, and the physiological issues related to the suicidal risk of
certain listeners.
It is debatable that heavy metal sole purpose is to celebrate a newfound feeling of teenage
rebellion and sexuality, providing them with an escape from the realities of the world. While
according to Susan Barbieri s article in the Orlando Sentinel, some may argue that heavy metal
instills imagery and anger that play on fears about Satanism, drugs, sex, and violence. Heavy metal
derived from the subculture of Hard Rock, consisting of hypersonic drum patterns, screeching
electric guitar cords, with loud and often distorted grunts with subliminal lyrics. It is referenced
that heavy metal has ties to a lot of death, the occult, and Nazi symbolism associated with metal
bands (Babieri par. 11). While some metal music can have a positive self identifying effect, most
metal music songs are written to promote outward violence and morbid messages that tend to sway
listeners to tap into their violent nature.

A Clean Well Lighted Place Comparison
The short stories A Clean, Well Lighted Place and A Place I ve Never Been have different
settings and plots, but both have similar characters that lead parallel lives. In A Clean, Well
Lighted Place, a character referred to as the young waiter is a selfish man who cannot
sympathize with those who contrasting lives to his own. The character Nathan in A Place I ve
Never Been is selfish and naive. His woe is me attitude creates tension in the story; while a tough
decision he must make drives the plot. The selfishness, naivety, and age of the young waiter and
Nathan all create tension that propels the plots. Without the young waiter in A Clean, Well Lighted
Place, there would be little plot or symbolism. The young waiter is of course young, but also self
seeking and inconsiderate. Throughout the entire plot development of the story, his only interest is
in leaving the bar to return home to his girlfriend. He has no regard for the old man drinking in the
bar. One exchange of dialogue between the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
No one but you counts (Leavitt, pp. 1056). This is evidence of Nathan either being selfish or
naive about Celia s needs. Either way, Nathan is constantly preventing Celia from moving on
with her own life. Since the story is narrated in first person from Celia s point of view, it is hard
for the reader to know exactly why he acts the way he does. When Celia helps Nathan clean his
destroyed apartment is another example of how Nathan s selfish and immature nature plays a role
in plot development. When Nathan returns from Europe to find his apartment in shambles, he
immediately calls Celia to rescue him. Nathan s dependency on Celia is a sign of immaturity. It is
never revealed why Nathan refuses the test or has a continued reliance on Celia, but it can be
inferred, from Celia s thoughts, that it is because Nathan is selfish and immature. However, without
Nathan s imperfections and personality traits, there would not be much of a

Today in America the word Racism is taken to a whole new level. Even in sports, such as the
NFL racism prospers. For instance the Washington Redskins of the National Football League.
Native Americans are trying to say the NFL is being rude for naming a Team Redskins. The
Redskins have had that name since 1933 (Staff). The team had the name of Braves before they
adopted the name Redskins. It was changed due to racismpurposes. Some people would agree that
the whole situation with Redskins is ridiculous because The Major League Baseball series has two
teams related to Native Americans, The Atlanta Braves and The Cleveland Indians. The NFL also

How much money can I get? Does it even matter if anyone but me has money? Americans as a
whole are selfish. Some aren t but as a whole yes. As Americans people need to slow down on
saying something is racist because who knows it may actually not be racist. Most people thinks
when someone is being racist its just toward African Americans when really, they aren t the only
ones being discriminated against. Its any race with the exception of white people. White people are
often referred to as the dominate race. Often Times people find themselves thinking all the
discrimination is directed toward the African Americans. However, they aren t the only ones being
discriminated for being a different color.
Native Americans are also being discriminated also. There are many ways to discriminate people.
Name calling is one, another is drawing, and another is acting. Those two, drawing and acting
are not usually the offense. Its usually in the form of name calling. (Whitlock) There s a lot of
terms you can use to be racist. A lot of sick people have came up with names to call different
races. Names so bad that they can not be used in this paper. Racism is very wrong. People are all
equal no matter what color they are. No one should be laughed at or tortured or even made fun of
for being a different color. God made everyone the same. The only differences are color, actions,
looks, and personality. Everyone is a beautiful creation

The Groundwater Of California Is A Serious Policy Matter
The groundwater of California is a serious policy matter in legislation. If there is drought, such as
years like this, then management is necessary because it may encourage more pumping to supplant
the water not gathered from other resources. Groundwater can account for as much as 35% of all
the water used by California (cite). Unfortunately, there are not many laws established to regulate
groundwater. The basins can replenish if they are pumped on a limited basis during normal or peak
years. Luckily, proposals have been brought forth to help regulate ground water basins to insure
their use is efficient and does not harm the environment.

There are some proposals that are favorites to be pushed through legislation that can help start the
process of managing our groundwater usage.
The local agriculture groups do not want the state to manage the groundwater based on their
management of the surface water (cite). So far, all the proposed plans have the local entities being
in charge of their groundwater. Governor Brown has proposed his Water Action Plan , which is a
series of actions that the local entities should perform. Another significant proposal is bill SB

The Literary Works Of The First Century Romans
Understanding ancient civilizations is always a hard process. The only resources that are readily
available, are the texts written by people of the times. But which helps better the understanding of
the society and political structures: historical or literary works? The first century Romans are a
great example of this. The literary works of the first century Romans, help further the knowledge
about the ancient civilization. While the historical works do show a lot of the facts from the era,
the literary works possess more information about the people s lives in that time. The political
aspects of the Romans were very advanced. The government system they had set up, was better than
any of the other civilizations of the time. (Virgil, Aeneid) Under the rule of Augustus, the Romans
were at some of the strongest times of the empire s existence. The empire in this time conquered
most of the known world. They were not a force to be taken lightly. Virgil connected the political
aspects of his time to the Greek gods quite often. He would reference the Roman empireas being
strong and mighty much like the gods. (Virgil, Aeneid) He also described the empire as always in a
state of tranquility, order, and emotional stability. (Virgil, Aeneid) Augustus was also highly
regarded to during his reign. One historical fact from the Aeneid that Virgil mentions, would be the
hatred between Carthageand Rome. This was truly a big struggle during the ancient Roman times.

Gender Roles in Creation Myths from Around the World
Different cultures and societies have their story of how the world began. These stories vary in the
process, but they all share one common theme. All of the stories begin with nothing or chaos, that is
until one being creates light, time, earth and its occupants. One common thing all myths share is the
role and status of women and men. In the Greek myth women were less dominant, Hindu myth
women are not even mentioned, and in Cherokee myth women are shown to be inferior.

Summary Of The Banking Concept Of Education
Dominants and Subordinates in Education
In The Banking Concept of Education, from the Pedagogy of the Oppressed, Revised Edition,
Paulo Freire discusses two different types of education: banking and problem posing. The banking
concept of education is when teachers make deposits which the students patiently receive,
memorize, and repeat (318), and problem posing is when the teachers and students are equal.
Instead of being treated as human beings that have their own thoughts and ideas, students are
treated as containers that are simply filled by a powerful being, a teacher. In school, teachers are
dominants that provide knowledge to the students, the subordinates; the knowledge that students
learn are limited to what they re taught by teachers. Similarly, in Kurt Wimmer s Equilibrium ,
Librians are treated as reservoirs for knowledge. In the movie Equilibrium , everyone follows
the demands of the Father, such as kill people who have feelings, and agree with whatever the
Father says. Emotions are what cause people to have differences in opinions, which is why the
Father did not want people having any feelings; to prevent disputes. They used a mind altering
drug called prozium to encourage obedience and prevent people from having their own thoughts.
To make matters worse, in the movie, there are numerous screens in which a taped recording of
the Father is presented to all of Libra s inhabitants; they were being brainwashed. Society will soon

commonly take one or both of these examinations during their junior or senior year of high school

differences in the tests themselves, students should review research concluding certain individuals

Evidence suggests high scores on the ACT often correlate with those displaying strong

Main Ideas and Themes of Beowulf Essay
Beowulf and Sir Gawain have many things in common. We will be discussing them later on, but
their main similarity is that they re both heroes. A hero is a person who must pass through a test
and a battle (mental, spiritual or physical) to help someone else. He must be selfless, and act for
others rather than himself. All societies have supported heroes, like the ancient Greek s Hercules
and the modern day Spiderman. These are hero stereotypes, with supernatural powers. Heroes don t
have to be stereotypes, but can be firemen, policemen or soldiers. Two famous heroes in ancient
literature are Beowulfand Sir Gawain.
Beowulf is about a guard who must destroy a destructive monster who has ... Show more content on

Beowulf s test is to defeat the evil creature Grendel, protecting his hall and soldiers. Sir Gawain s
test is to resist temptation to steal a magic belt, and steal the master s wife! Even though both
tests are different, Beowulf s test and Gawain s test both test courage. The courage to take on a
monster and the courage to resist stealing and keeping you re word! In the end, both succeeded,
Grendel was killed, and sir Gawain received his blow, and stayed alive, but both had
consequences. Beowulf s friends got killed, and later on Grendel s mother attacks him, and sir
Gawain had been given a cut to his neck, and lost his honor.
The test the heroes have to face, is often put up by a villain, and both have their fair share of
villains. In Beowulf the enemy is a dark monster, which eats human and has super strength, enough
to bend iron. In Sir Gawain, the apparent villain is the green knight, who challenges sir Gawain to
a grueling beheading contest . After it s head falls off, he is not harmed, so he has some weird
magical qualities. Both have supernatural powers and striking appearances, but the difference is
that in sir Gawain and the green knight, the green knight is just the master of the kingdom in
disguise, testing the nobility of King Arthur s knights, and not a mortal enemy.
The main difference in the two poems is the

The fall of Dinosaurs
It is hard to imagine that millions of years ago, the Earth was not dominated by humans, but by
Dinosaurs. These great Beast s, who were as big or bigger than cars, roamed the land. Some were
giant killing machines, like the Tyrannosaurus Rex.Some are even alive today, while many people
do not even notice. There have been countless theories as to how the dinosaurs became extinct.
The dinosaurs ruled the land for millions of years, and it seems impossible that such magnificent
creatures could have been taken off the earth. Dinosaurs were very adaptable to their environment
and traversed the entire earth. They were even found on lands like Antarctica, and many different
oceanic islands like north Island, New Zealand, and a island called Spitsbergen.(Creation.com/Oard)
There have even been Dinosaur fossils found in northern Alaska next to the arctic Ocean.(Oard)
These questions have perplexed researchers, and it has made them wonder if dinosaurs were
Endotherms, Ectotherms, or some combination in between.(Oard) An example of this is a comment
from researcher Michael Benton, Should we now imagine Dinosaurs as thermally insulated Warm
Blooded animals that ploughed through the snowdrifts and scraped brush the ice off the ground to
find food? .(Oard)
For the past several years, Different dinosaur tracks have been discovered at over 1,500 locations
from around the world.(Oard) The number of tracks are in the

My Operational Definition Of Social Justice
My operational definition of social justice (the distribution of advantage and disadvantage
within a society) is controversial to my social justice (LGBT Liberation) because they have a
disadvantage in today s society. It s controversial because people today are afraid to come out
because they re afraid of other people s reactions. Everyone in today s society depends on other
people s opinions. On what s right or what s the norm . Many people feel this is a lifestyle choice
not part of their make up. The Supreme Court ruling to allow same sex marriages is still not
widely accepts. The pressure of trying to express who you are can add stress and the stereotypes by
others can add an inability to have a career. The efforts of the LGBTare opening doors for people
to be themselves. Standing up for the LGBT rights is a form of social justice. One of these
advocate organizations is the National Youth Advocacy Coalition. Teenagers as well as adults are
faced with these injustices. My idea of social justice is giving the LGBT the same rights as all other
citizens and overcoming stereotypes.
Some of the groups against this social justice are religious groups and their leaders and right wing
political leaders (i.e. Tea Party). While many groups are outspoken against LGBT the biggest
problem is still with individual opinions. Many people still are afraid of what they don t understand.
The social justice issue I have chosen for my paper would be LGBT Liberation. I have

System and Change in Industrial Relations Analysis
Critique: System and Change in Industrial Relations Analysis As a student of industrial relations,
I am often bombarded with conflicting theories and reasons for the emergence and importance of
this field. Edmond Heery outlines and analyses the justaposition of two different views of
modeling this vast and often debated area of industrial relations. His article looks at two types of
model building in IR. First, the traditional model of systems thinking set forth by John Dunlop,
one of the pioneers of IR theory. Introduced in 1958, Dunlop s system theory of IR tries to provide
tools to understand the widest possible range of IR activities and explains why particular rules are
established in particular contexts. Dunlop argues that IR can... Show more content on

In the exogenous gradual model, IR change occurs due to gradual, cumulative change that is
driven by forces beyond the employment control. An example is globalization. In the exogenous
disjunctive model, episodes of change are interspersed with periods of stability. The change itself
is triggered into the employment relationship by some external event, like a war. In the exogenous
cyclical model, change follows a repeating cycle of decline and renewal as IR adapts to cyclical
pressures in the external environment, such as election pressures and the economy. In the
endogenous cyclical model, change occurs because of the competing drives of the actors. For
example, IR is said to be both adversarial (due to the competing interests) and cooperative (due to
interdependence of the parties). Thus IR will oscillate between adversarial and cooperative
mindsets depending on the context as the limitations of each approach become apparent to both
management and workers. In the endogenous disjunctive model, change occurs as a result of
strategic choices of the actors within the employment relations. For example, as a result of unions
traditional marginalization of women s and minorities issues, there has been an increased
mobilization of women and minorities within unions. In the endogenous gradual model, change is
gradually driven by forces internal to IR. This model stresses the maturing of IR institutions over
time, as they become more

Hierarchy Of Effect Of Amazon
Introduction
Nowadays it is crucial for companies to understand and have a clear vision about trends and levels
on customer knowledge, preferences and behaviors, in order to develop with success their brand
and product strategy.
In effect, studies of awareness, attitudes and usage are made in way to measure these trends and
they are based on the theory of Hierarchy of Effects, assumption that explains the process with
which the consumer, primarily, starts to be aware about the product, with initial trial of it, and then,
after adoption of the product, he becomes loyal to it.
In this way companies can see how their reputation and competition increase, starting a growth

To do this, after its foundation, Amazon came up with the idea of customer reviews, which it
means that if people see other people s review about products and services acquired online they feel
more confident to proceed with the purchase. Doing constantly that operation, company s reputation

They developed a recommendation module, insight integrated after seeing that, between the last

suggestions about a set of customized products are given to the customer, in way to give more

To make easy and simplify online shopping they created a process called one click ordering with

Strengths And Weaknesses Of Crime Essay
This essay will discuss the strengths and weaknesses of sociological explanations of crimes with
links to Durkheim s anomie theory, Merton s strain theory and the Labelling theory which will
draw upon different academics that will highlight these specific areas of research. In sociological
terms, crime is a social concept as it does not exist as an autonomous entity, but it is socially
constructed by people. It can be analysed that sociological explanations of crimeattribute deviance
to various aspects of the social environment. For example, crime is strongly related to modern city
life where this type of social environment creates cultural enclaves which results in producing
criminal or deviant behaviour (Carrabine et al, 2014).
The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, Merton was influenced over his work and continued to develop the concept of
anomie in his work relating to the social upheaval that occurred in USA (Burke, 2005, p.99). Smith
also argues that the following insights in criminology do have their origins in Durkheim s work as
deviance is, in part, the product of weak moral integration and poor social regulation and that social
change, such as the transition to modernity, can often generate anomie and with this an increase in
the levels of crime. (2008)
However, an underlying weakness of Durkheim is that his theory basically assumes individuals
do not have a choice over their actions as their lives are predestined because of the social
conditions in which they live in (Burke, 2005, p.127). This implies that there is no scientific
evidence and therefore impossible to locate any acceptable mechanism to explain social change
which has led to his work being dismissed methodically (Ronald, 1991). Therefore, Merton s
theory is not just denying any reason for social change, but it could create the assumption that
deviance behaviour is more common in lower class where individuals live in poor social
environments so are ultimately prone to take the path of crime.
Merton further developed the concept of anomie to describe an imbalance between cultural goals
and institutionalised means. He believed that anomie was the result from the absence of alignment
between people s socially desired aspirations, such as

The Link Between Science And Crime
The link between science and crime was originated days back in 1840 s in Europe and when
Spanish physician Soler made reference to the concept of the born criminal.
No one in the history of criminology has a reputation like Cesare Lombroso.
Darwin s hypothesis of development, with its startling decisions and cautious arrangement
frameworks, in view of point by point physical portrayals of many finch mouths and ocean turtle
carapaces, is a prime sample of this new science. Taking up from where Darwin left, Cesare
Lombroso s deliberate investigation of criminal physiognomy tried to support society by
recognizing crooks. Lombroso particularly inspired by the thought of Charles Darwin that some
men are hereditarily closer to their primitive heritage of the concept of born criminal.
Lombroso was a multifaceted researcher who took a gander at for all intents and purpose each part
of the lives, minds, bodies, state of mind, words, lifestyles, and practices of criminal guilty parties
with expectations of discovering the conclusive reason for crime. He was the pioneer in actuation of
investigative systems to criminology. Lombroso turned into a well known positive criminologist.
The essential thought behind constructive criminology is that lawbreakers are conceived as being
what is indicated and not made into criminals; as it were, it is the way of the individual, not sustain,
that brings about criminal inclinations. Lombroso s fundamental theory was his concept of atavism,
that

First Emperor Of China Essay
Although he did wonderful things while he was alive, the first emperor of China was not a
wonderful person. This is because of his greed, the large amount of people he executed, and his
failed attempts to live forever. But who was the first emperor of China? What kind of things did he
accomplish? And why do so many insist that he was a bad person?
The answer lies in the Period of Warring States. Before China was unified, it was a land composed
of seven independent states, they were kind of like countries. Those states were always at war for
superiority. In Chinese culture, this is known as the Period of Warring States (First Emperor of
China). In the midst of the Period of Warring States, a young merchant, Lu Buwei, was in need of

Pope Gregory The Great Essay
Is certainly one of the most notable figures in Ecclesiastical History. He has exercised in many
respects a momentous influence on the doctrine, the organization, and the discipline of the Catholic
Church. To him we must look for an explanation of the religious situation of the Middle Ages;
indeed, if no account were taken of his work, the evolution of the form of medieval Christianity
would be almost inexplicable. And further, in so far as the modern Catholic system is a legitimate
development of medieval Catholicism, of this too Gregory may not unreasonably be termed the
Father. Almost all the leading principles of the later Catholicism are found, at any rate in germ, in
Gregory the Great. . (F.H. Dudden, Gregory the Great , 1, p. v).

A Secret Lost in the Water is a short story by Roch Carrier. It is a story about how young
Millennials are forgetting their traditional way of life and are moving into the modern era . The
story takes place in a small Village where everyone knows one another. A Secret Lost in the Water
is a story about a father tries to teach his son an important skill of how to find water with an elder

In the short story A Secret Lost in the Water by Roch Carrier, the father is an important character
in the story. The father wants his son to continue his skills of dowsing. In his son s childhood,
the father teaches his son the skill of dowsing. You see, he said, the branch has two arms. Now
take one in each hand. And squeeze them. He tries to teach his son his fore father s profession
which is a great skill to help people. As the narrator says regarding the father, I ve just taught you
how to find a spring. It s something my own father taught me. It isn t something you learn in
school. And it isn t useless . The father thinks that his son sees the skill of dowsing as a useless
skill. The father takes his profession as a sacred and noble as it can be seen in this quote, My

Character Analysis Of Little Miss Sunshine
Little Miss Sunshine is a comedy movie about a seven year old girl named Olive who aspires to
win the Little Miss Sunshine pageant. To help make her wish come true, her six member family
takes a road trip from Albuquerque to Redondo Beach, California. At the conclusion of the film,
Olive and her family learned to trust and support each other, no matter the situation. Olive is the
youngest member of her family who is entering middle childhood and adolescencejust like her
older brother Dwayne. Olive is the type of girl that is cheerful, most of the time and not
particularly the kind you would see in a pageant. Olive s brother, Dwayne, could be described as
emo . Although he claims that he hates his family, he loves his sister, Olive. Their parents,
Richard and Sheryl, and their Uncle Frank are in the process of entering middle adulthood.
Throughout most of the film, Richard is considered selfish because he does not want his family
to be seen as losers . Richard is obnoxious to his family, but he still means well and wants them to
succeed. Sheryl is the normal member of the family who does not tolerate anyone s antics.
Uncle Frank is very sarcastic and failed at his attempt to commit suicide. He used to be a college
professor, so he is considered the smart guy. The sixth member of Olive s family, her grandpa,
dies during the movie due to an overdose, but was entering the late adulthood stage. The
members of Olive s family share some similarities and differences, but since they all vary in age,
developmental concepts will be different in a way for each family member. Olive is seven which
means she is approaching adolescence while Dwayne is currently going through adolescence.
Typically, females ages eight to fourteen go through pubertal changes while males go through it
between ages nine to fifteen. The difference in age does not have to do with maturity as much as it
does the brain. Many biological changes take place during the adolescent years, such as: height,
hormones, and etc. Changes in height during adolescence are regulated by the complex of
hormones. Changes in hormones take place later and over a longer period of time in boys than
girls. These changes in hormones could affect how interactions with

records as an in house drummer for recordings. He was then promoted by Gordy to record his
own tracks. The first of his solo tracks was called Hitch Hike a dance hit which was highly
successful. It was traditional in regards to the Motown sound, with catchy lyric phrases. Hitch
hike, now hitch a hike, it s all right hitch hike Jenny (Gaye, Stevenson, Paul: 1962) However, as
Gaye s career continued to progress through Motown records, he continued to be influenced by
progressive issues which were channeled in his music. In 1971, Gaye s first concept album was
released titled What s Going On , the song featured the hit track of the same name. Both the
single and the title became highly recognized due to their reference to the 1965 Watts Riots.
Marvin Gaye explained his feelings hearing about the riots saying My stomach got real tight and
my heart started beating like crazy. I wanted to throw the radio down and burn all the...songs I d

Perioperative Observation Paper Perioperative Observation Paper Jenna Vaccaro Lewis University College of Nursing and Health Professions Abstract As a clinical requirement for my Adult 1: Medical Surgical course, I had the opportunity to observe a patient in the Operating Room and in the Post Anesthesia Unit of Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital. The procedure that I observed was a left total knee replacement. The patient needed this surgery because she was experiencing osteoarthritis, and this surgery could alleviate her pain and discomfort. I was with the patient from the end of her stay in the pre operative holding area to the Operating Room, and then to the Post Anesthesia Care Unit. This paper will include background inquiry, preoperative and operative ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... X rays can be used for the diagnosis of osteoarthritis; the images would reveal damage and other changes related to osteoarthritis. With osteoarthritis of the knees, the patient would experience progressively increasing pain, stiffness, and they would have a decrease in daily functions. Patients experiencing these symptoms can be eligible for a total knee replacement. The surgical procedure. A total knee replacement is a surgical procedure where the diseased knee joint is completely replaced by artificial materials that resemble the original knee joint. The orthopedic surgeon removed the end of the femur and the end of the tibia by using metal pieces and sawing the bone, to ensure that he removes the right amount of bone. The end of the femur bone is replaced with metal and the end of the tibia bone is replaced with plastic and metal. A plastic piece was added under the patella because the surface under the patella was damaged as well. These artificial materials, called prosthesis, have smooth surfaces so when they rub against each other, it does not cause damage and is pain free. The purpose of this surgery is to remove the diseased portions of the joint and replace it with artificial materials to prevent further deterioration and eliminate pain, stiffness, and decreases in function that were caused by the osteoarthritis. Sympathizing with Brutus of William Shakespeare s Julius Caesar Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare is an interesting and complex play based on historical events that took place in Rome in 44 BC. The plot revolves around the assassination of Julius Caesar by his closest friend Marcus Brutus, and Marc Antony s attempt to avenge his death. The play portrays many important themes that are still relevant in today s society like the struggle for political power; love and friendship; the fallibility of men; and the fickleness of common people. Despite the title of the play, Brutus is the main character, and the most important in the group of conspirators that murder Julius Caesar. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, one might argue that that foretelling Caesar to be a tyrant is deeply flawed and wrong. How can Brutus be so sure that Caesar will become a tyrant? There is no way that Brutus can be one hundred percent sure. One would say Brutus argument is very weak and there was insufficient evidence pointing to any form of tyrannical behaviour from Caesar thus the killing of Caesar completely unjustified. Brutus is a considerate and honourable man because of his patriotism towards Rome and their people. Throughout the whole play, his intentions are for the goodness of Rome …if then that friend demand why Brutus rose against Caesar, this is my answer not that I loved Caesar less but that I loved Rome more. He killed Caesar because of his concerns for Rome, and everything that he did was for the benefit of someone else. Even Marc Antony still recognised Brutus as the noblest Roman of them all. After his death he says This was the noblest Roman of them all; all the conspirators save only he did that they did in envy of great Caesar; he, only, in a general honest thought and common good to all... Anthony is basically saying that everyone in the conspiracy except Brutus killed Caesar out of jealousy. But Brutus killed Caesar because of his worry for the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Homelessness Is A Major Topic Affecting The United States... AbstractHomelessness is a major topic affecting the United States and other parts of the world; it is a very complex issue that affects the community from an economic and a social perspective (Clapham). This paper will focus on how urbanization has played a role in the homeless population and homelessness in general; we will also look at the recent reports that homelessnessis on a slight decline. We will propose ideas on what we can do to affect homelessness as well. Defining what exactly it is to be homeless and the difference between homelessness and homeless was very difficult to do as numerous sources gave very difference responses with categories and subcategories. National statistical series contain title to no information on the homeless; the census essentially only takes into consideration those with homes. Based on prior research primarily conducted by Peter H. Rossi and James D. • 5. An Englishman s Social Status According to the legislation of Virginia, the social status was based on the mother. If a slave bears a child, even if the father is an Englishman the slave mother determined the child s social status. Huge fines on slaves indulging in fornication were high and brutal for the slaves in the region. March 1661 the laws against adultery were clear and if a child is born within such parameters they and given to the parish. Fines of thousands of tobacco and been sold were the few known ways in which slaves suffered (Johnson). In 1662, the laws against slave and child were heightened when Englishmen started to have their way with them. In such instances, the bastard child even after birth is rejected as the law projected those children the mother solely determined social status. Englishmen still held in high regard even after having their way with Negro slaves; efforts to get bastard children named as free were futile at that period. To protect the land against the domination of Negro white children they enforced laws on the Negro slaves to keep them bound. The Puritan life, although simple, demanded diligence both mentally and spiritually which put stress on even the most faithful of followers. Although the common practice entailed brushing religious struggles under the rug, few writers bravely wrote of their religious doubts and endeavors to become better Puritans. Author Anne Bradstreet shows in her work Here Follows Some Verse upon the Burning of Our House, July 10th, 1666 that religious struggles are often met by Puritans and it takes brave souls to admit their difficult time with their religion. This poem shows a woman dealing with a religious crisis and how even though she struggles her faith still holds strong in the end. Bradstreet s poem displays a crisis of faith in her content... This quote also represents the struggles that the author had with the non materialistic Puritan lifestyle. She has put so much emphases on her material possession that she has lost sight of what is truly important, which is God. The content expressed in this poem mirrors the materialistic struggles most Puritans felt with their faith at one point or another. Bradstreet makes a point to show her thought process of returning to the Puritan mindset when she begins to question herself in her poem. The following is an example: The straight I gin my heart to chide,/And did they wealth on earth abide?/Didst fix thy hope on mold ring dust?/The arm of flesh didst make they trust? (37 40). The repetitive notion of the author questioning herself allows the reader to see into her thought process regarding her current struggle with her beliefs. The author includes this process in the poem to enable the reader to fully understand her way of thinking and ultimately makes her writing more relatable. Bradstreet develops the content of the poem to show her external struggle to release her material possessions and focus on the process of regaining her Puritan beliefs, however, the form of the poem speaks louder to her unwavering internal faith. Heavy metal musicseemed to have a negative impact on the purpose of which the music is intended, its popularity among teens, and the physiological issues related to the suicidal risk of certain listeners. It is referenced that heavy metal has ties to a lot of death, the occult, and Nazi symbolism associated with metal bands (Babieri par. 11). Summary Of The Banking Concept Of Education Dominants and Subordinates in Education In The Banking Concept of Education, from the Pedagogy of the Oppressed, Revised Edition, Paulo Freire discusses two different types of education: banking and problem posing. The banking concept of education is when teachers make deposits which the students patiently receive, memorize, and repeat (318), and problem posing is when the teachers and students are equal. Instead of being treated as human beings that have their own thoughts and ideas, students are treated as containers that are simply filled by a powerful being, a teacher. In school, teachers are dominants that provide knowledge to the students, the subordinates; the knowledge that students learn are limited to what they re taught by teachers. Similarly, in Kurt Wimmer s Equilibrium , Librians are treated as reservoirs for knowledge. In the movie Equilibrium , everyone follows the demands of the Father, such as kill people who have feelings, and agree with whatever the Father says. Emotions are what cause people to have differences in opinions, which is why the Father did not want people having any feelings; to prevent disputes. These examinations empirically measure a student s grasp of reading, writing, and mathematics subjects taught every day in high school classrooms. As a result, they typically constitute a significant proportion of the total entrance requirements for prospective students to relevant institutions of higher learning and denote a serious endeavor unto itself. Students commonly take one or both of these examinations during their junior or senior year of high school as dictated by an institution s administrative guidelines, although most colleges now allow either test as part of their proprietary admission formulas. System and Change in Industrial Relations Analysis Critique: System and Change in Industrial Relations Analysis As a student of industrial relations, I am often bombarded with conflicting theories and reasons for the emergence and importance of this field. Edmond Heery outlines and analyses the justaposition of two different views of modeling this vast and often debated area of industrial relations. His article looks at two types of model building in IR. First, the traditional model of systems thinking set forth by John Dunlop, one of the pioneers of IR theory. Introduced in 1958, Dunlop s system theory of IR tries to provide tools to understand the widest possible range of IR activities and explains why particular rules are established in particular contexts. Dunlop argues that IR can... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the exogenous gradual model, IR change occurs due to gradual, cumulative change that is driven by forces beyond the employment control. An example is globalization. In the exogenous disjunctive model, episodes of change are interspersed with periods of stability. The change itself is triggered into the employment relationship by some external event, like a war. In the exogenous cyclical model, change follows a repeating cycle of decline and renewal as IR adapts to cyclical pressures in the external environment, such as election pressures and the economy. In the endogenous cyclical model, change occurs because of the competing drives of the actors. For example, IR is said to be both adversarial (due to the competing interests) and cooperative (due to interdependence of the parties). Thus IR will oscillate between adversarial and cooperative mindsets depending on the context as the limitations of each approach become apparent to both management and workers. In the endogenous disjunctive model, change occurs as a result of strategic choices of the actors within the employment relations. For example, as a result of unions traditional marginalization of women s and minorities issues, there has been an increased mobilization of women and minorities within unions. In the endogenous gradual model, change is gradually driven by forces internal to IR. This model stresses the maturing of IR institutions over time, as they become more ... In effect, studies of awareness, attitudes and usage are made in way to measure these trends and they are based on the theory of Hierarchy of Effects, assumption that explains the process with which the consumer, primarily, starts to be aware about the product, with initial trial of it, and then, after adoption of the product, he becomes loyal to it. • 31. Strengths And Weaknesses Of Crime Essay This essay will discuss the strengths and weaknesses of sociological explanations of crimes with links to Durkheim s anomie theory, Merton s strain theory and the Labelling theory which will draw upon different academics that will highlight these specific areas of research. In sociological terms, crime is a social concept as it does not exist as an autonomous entity, but it is socially constructed by people. It can be analysed that sociological explanations of crimeattribute deviance to various aspects of the social environment. For example, crime is strongly related to modern city life where this type of social environment creates cultural enclaves which results in producing criminal or deviant behaviour (Carrabine et al, 2014). The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, Merton was influenced over his work and continued to develop the concept of anomie in his work relating to the social upheaval that occurred in USA (Burke, 2005, p.99). Smith also argues that the following insights in criminology do have their origins in Durkheim s work as deviance is, in part, the product of weak moral integration and poor social regulation and that social change, such as the transition to modernity, can often generate anomie and with this an increase in the levels of crime. (2008) However, an underlying weakness of Durkheim is that his theory basically assumes individuals do not have a choice over their actions as their lives are predestined because of the social conditions in which they live in (Burke, 2005, p.127). This implies that there is no scientific evidence and therefore impossible to locate any acceptable mechanism to explain social change which has led to his work being dismissed methodically (Ronald, 1991). Therefore, Merton s theory is not just denying any reason for social change, but it could create the assumption that deviance behaviour is more common in lower class where individuals live in poor social environments so are ultimately prone to take the path of crime. Merton further developed the concept of anomie to describe an imbalance between cultural goals and institutionalised means. He believed that anomie was the result from the absence of alignment between people s socially desired aspirations, such as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Link Between Science And Crime The link between science and crime was originated days back in 1840 s in Europe and when Spanish physician Soler made reference to the concept of the born criminal. No one in the history of criminology has a reputation like Cesare Lombroso. Darwin s hypothesis of development, with its startling decisions and cautious arrangement frameworks, in view of point by point physical portrayals of many finch mouths and ocean turtle carapaces, is a prime sample of this new science. Taking up from where Darwin left, Cesare Lombroso s deliberate investigation of criminal physiognomy tried to support society by recognizing crooks. Lombroso particularly inspired by the thought of Charles Darwin that some men are hereditarily closer to their primitive heritage of the concept of born criminal. Lombroso was a multifaceted researcher who took a gander at for all intents and purpose each part of the lives, minds, bodies, state of mind, words, lifestyles, and practices of criminal guilty parties with expectations of discovering the conclusive reason for crime. He was the pioneer in actuation of investigative systems to criminology. Lombroso turned into a well known positive criminologist. The essential thought behind constructive criminology is that lawbreakers are conceived as being what is indicated and not made into criminals; as it were, it is the way of the individual, not sustain, that brings about criminal inclinations. • 38. Pope Gregory The Great Essay Is certainly one of the most notable figures in Ecclesiastical History. He has exercised in many respects a momentous influence on the doctrine, the organization, and the discipline of the Catholic Church. To him we must look for an explanation of the religious situation of the Middle Ages; indeed, if no account were taken of his work, the evolution of the form of medieval Christianity would be almost inexplicable. And further, in so far as the modern Catholic system is a legitimate development of medieval Catholicism, of this too Gregory may not unreasonably be termed the Father. Almost all the leading principles of the later Catholicism are found, at any rate in germ, in Gregory the Great. . (F.H. Dudden, Gregory the Great , 1, p. v). At the conclusion of the film, Olive and her family learned to trust and support each other, no matter the situation. Throughout most of the film, Richard is considered selfish because he does not want his family to be seen as losers . Richard is obnoxious to his family, but he still means well and wants them to succeed. Sheryl is the normal member of the family who does not tolerate anyone s antics. Uncle Frank is very sarcastic and failed at his attempt to commit suicide. He used to be a college professor, so he is considered the smart guy. The sixth member of Olive s family, her grandpa, dies during the movie due to an overdose, but was entering the late adulthood stage.
