1. INTRODUCTION
In this assignment, we are required to write a site visit report,
which is, organized on the 26th of June 2015 by our Measurement I
lecturer Ms Ang Fuey Lin. This assignment is involved in three
modules, which are Measurement I, Construction Technology I and
building Materials. Before that, every one of us should prepare a safety
helmet to ensure our safety. During that day, we are gathered at
Taylor’s University at around 9am. It takes around 20 minutes to the
site, which is located at BukitJalil.
When we arrived at the site, the project manager gave us a 15
minutes briefing of the site about the project which is cost roughly
RM21.5 million. Besides, this is the biggest pilecap that they had ever
made which is 24BP1200A. After that, the project manager gave us
another short briefing about the safety precautions we have to take
while walking around at the site. We also need to be very careful on
our own safety and ensure that we do not slip and fall which can lead
to a lot of problems.
When the briefing is completed, we are divided into three groups,
each group consist of 9 to 10 people. Then, we follow the person who
in charge of us and finally given the tour on the site.
2. Type of foundation used for the site
The typeof foundation, whichis used in this projectis pile
foundation. A pilefoundation isa long slender foundation, itis made
by either timber , structuralsteel or concrete which might be cast-in-
situ or driven and acts as a structural member to transfer the load of
the structureto a required depthin deep foundationscarryingaload
which may be vertical or lateral or lateral plusvertical.
The gradeof concrete used for the column is grade 45, for beam
is grade 35. Moreover, the concrete gradefor slab is grade35 and for
the foundation itis grade30.
3. These are the advantagesand disadvantagesfor pile foundation:
Advantages Disadvantages
The size, length and shape can be
madein advanced and used at the site.
Advance planning is required for
handling and driving.
The work is neat and clean.
Required heavy equipment for
handling and driving.
High individual load capacity.
May suffer unseen damage, which
reduces carrying capacity.
Can be driven in very long length.
May break during driving
necessitating replacement piles.
Advantagesand disadvantagesof reinforced concrete:
Advantages Disadvantages
The reinforced concrete building
system is moredurable than any other
building system.
The tensile strength of reinforced
concrete is about one tenth of its
compressive strength.
The maintenance cost of reinforced
concrete is very low
The cost of the forms used for the
casting reinforced concrete is
relatively higher.
Compared to the use of steel in
structure, reinforcesconcrete requires
less killed labor for the erection of
structure.
Shrinkage causes crack development
and strength loss
Fire and weather resistance of
reinforced concrete is fair.
It needs mixing, casting, and curing, all
of which affect the final strength of
concrete.
4. PHOTOS AND DESCRIPTION
Temporary Work
This is a temporary place,
which is provided to the
workers of there to relax and
take a break.
A temporary work for the
drainage system since there is a
lot of ground water and
rainwater, which has to be
removed.
5. Plants and tools used:
This is a bar bending machine
which is used to bend the
reinforcement bars into ant
shapes and angles. This is more
convenient for the worker.
The blue machine is a welding
generator, which provides
current electrical to perform
welding.
Excavators are also used on the
site that is used for earth digging
and loading the excavated
materials into the loading trucks to
either for disposal or used later.
6. Construction Work:
This is acted as a balancing tool
for the formwork that can help to
make it straight.
The pile cap of the building is
found on the site.
The worker is tear apart the
formwork after the concrete is
dried over one night.
7. The links and the reinforced
concrete is found in the site. The
grade of the bars is Grade 500. It
is 12M long.
This is a concrete cover which is
35mm thick which has already
placed at the reinforcement bars
for column.
This is the column stump of the
foundation.
8. The links were tied to the
reinforcement bars of the
column.
The workers were making
concrete covers.
The formwork is done which is
ready for concrete to pour inside
it.
10. CONCLUSION
After this site visit, I had gained a lot of new experience and
knowledge, which I cannot get from the books. I realized that going to
the site is muchmore differentthan just learningthe theory from the
books.
Besides, after visiting the site, I truly understand thesituation of
the site visit includingthe scorching of sun and the dustin the site. I
also gained knowledgeaboutthe process of construction process, the
way of usingmachinery equipmentand can differentiatethe typesof
the buildingmaterials used in the construction.
As a conclusion, I really learn a lot and gained a lot for my future
which preparemeto overcomemany upcomingproblem throughout
the coursefrom this site visiting.
11. OBJECTIVES
Understand the basic of the construction process.
