1. Objective
The objectives of the site trip of this project are:
-

-

-

To have a better understanding of the basics of the construction process.
To gain more knowledge about the practical aspect of the construction
techniques in comparison to the theory aspect in books and its application on the
site.
To have an experiment to actual working environment on site including
uncertainty circumstances in weather condition.
To have the ability to communicate with the construction team members on site
and to see the importance of teamwork in the building team.
To have witness the usage of construction equipment on site including
mechanical plants.
Able to explore and identify various types of building materials and technology on
site.
To aware about the importance of safety on site and understanding of safety
problems and site conditions.
Able to recognize the items measurable for sub-structure and reinforced concrete
frame works.
To study a systematic approach to take-off quantities from drawings for the
preparation of Bills Quantities for substructure and reinforced concrete frame
works.
To demonstrate a systematic and orderly mind and be able to visualize the
drawings and details given for substructure and reinforced concrete frame works.

2. Introduction
The site visit is held on the Friday of 29th of November 2013 which is organized by
Ms. AngFuey Lin. This project is to build 75 terrace houses which build in 3 types
which is type A (37 units), B (84 units) and C (4 units) and is about 3 storey high
Mozart garden terrace houseconstruction sites which located in Symphony Hills,
Cyberjaya.

Based on the project information board outside of the construction site, the owner of
this project is CyberviewSdn. Bhd. The architect of this project is SA Architects Sdn.
Bhd. Besides that, the landscape architect is Punt Garden Sdn. Bhd. The civil,
structure and mechanical engineer is PerundingBudimanSdn. Bhd. The contractor is
IntaBinaSdn Bhd.
The foundation of this three storey house is built in grade 30 reinforced concrete pad
footing with manhole for sewage purpose. The size of the pad foundation is 5m long
x 3m wide x 1m high. The lean concrete below pad foundation is 50mm.

3. Technical Observation
On the 29st of November, Ms. Ang Fuey Lin arranged us to the construction site trip.
This site trip is very interesting which is about a 3 storey garden terrace house which
I never been there before although I visited a few of construction site. There are 3
types of Mozart garden terrace house. We visit type B which is the most units among
the 3 types of the garden terrace and is the smallest of all which is 3,224 square feet.
There are approximate 40-50 students going to the site trip.
Around 9.30am, Mr. Umar Sabtu (The project manager) and Mr.Zul (The engineer)
brief us about the site and safety precaution of site before entering the site. Along
the way, base plate, scaffolding and supporter of scaffolding can be seen. There are
also some scaffolding found besides the building to support the building and
formwork of beam which may not cause leakage of concrete and changes in shape.
Apart from that, they explain that this garden terrace consists of the combination of
pad and raft foundation. According to them, raft foundation to save cost as pad
foundations are more costly. There are cube like concrete blocks located under the
reinforcement bars to acts as concrete cover or spacer. This would give space for
the reinforcement bars in contact with the concrete which would prevent the rusting
of reinforcement bars. There are some red wires found to protect the electrical
cables.
After that, we saw various diameter of high tensile reinforcement bar on the ground
near the bar bending machine. There are a few workers bend the reinforcement bar
from the machine. The worker first measure the reinforcement bars and then bend
easily using the bar bending machine. Some of the workers are tying the links on the
reinforcement bars on the ground floor slab.
Besides that, we saw lifter crane which ease the worker in carry things to higher floor.
We also saw the concrete mixer machine which is use to mix cement, fine
aggregates, course aggregates and water depends on their ratio. We saw formwork
located besides the building and to the sides of the soffit. Concrete bricks and clay
bricks are used for brickwork for wall. Lastly, some temporary works which are toilets
are located in the construction site for better hygiene purposes for workers.

5. Conclusion
After visiting the site, I truly understand the situation of site visit including the
scorching of sun and the dust in the site. It is much tougher than what I thought
compared to the life of studying in the university. I have seen many things in the site
which normally taught by lecturer in lecture classes. Besides, I have gain experience
in staying patiently under the hot weather which I never learn in class.
Sometimes in lecture class only learn new knowledge without knowing how the
structure looks like. Apart from that, I also gained lots of knowledge about the basic
of construction process, way of using machinery equipment and can easily
differentiate the types of buildings materials used in the construction site. I would
also learn in looking at the construction and the design used to build a garden
terrace house. This would give me better understanding about the modern design
constructed.
Lastly, I really think that this site visits benefits a lot on subject and for my future
which prepare me to overcome many upcoming problems throughout the course.
This would also provide more practical knowledge which would give me better
preparation for the future as a successful quantity surveyor.
