The Fate Of The Fruit That Changed The World
The author of the book, The Fate of the Fruit that Changed the World (2008), Dan Koeppel, who is
a famous journalist describes in a fascinating way banana s cultural importance, threats associated
with the crops of banana in the future and banana history. Banana is a very delicious fruit and is
eaten all over the world. Bananais one of the world s fourth largest harvests in the world. Dole and
Chiquita are eminent American based distributors and producers of banana. They are claiming to
produce the banana on low price. In this book, Koeppel discusses the risks associated to the
plantation of banana around the world. He also discusses the fact that due to blight, the plantation
of banana is destroyed (Koeppel, 2008). He points out that the farmers and the producers have no
insight at all regarding this matter (Koeppel, 2008).
Book Review
In the book, Banana: The Fate of the Fruit That Changed the World (2008), Dan Koeppel talks
about the historical background of banana. He also talks about its importance to African farmers
and its importance to Latin America and Asia in economic terms. He describes that a disease
called blight has caused serious threats to banana crops, as it is rapidly destroying the banana
crops around the world (Koeppel, 2008). In this book, the author describes the role of two mega
companies; Dole and Chiquita. They are committing massacres in the name of producing cheap
banana. In Latin, America Chiquita is exploiting the labor. It also supports

The Salon Became A Better Business Bureau ( Bbb )
David Gerard Salon opened its Goodyear, AZ location on January 4, 2010, which they market as
a Paul Mitchell Focus Salon. The salon became a Better Business Bureau (BBB) accredited
business on April 29, 201, and currently has an A+ rating. In December of 2014, the salon opened
a second location in Avondale, AZ, which they market as an Aveda Salon and Gentlemen s Parlor.
In 2015, this site became a BBB accredited business and like their Goodyear location has an A+
rating. The distance between these two locations is 5.9 miles; thus, it would appear both salons
compete against one another for their share of the target audience.
Target Audience A review of the demographics for Goodyear, AZ reveals the town has a
population of 65,275 (2015) of which 34,651 are women. The demographics also indicate women
between the ages of 25 to 44 represent the majority of the female population (Suburban Stats,
2016). The demographics for Avondale, AZ indicate a population of 76,238 (2015) of which
38,394 are women. Like Glendale, women between the ages of 25 to 44 account for the majority of
the female population. However, when considering the Avondale location markets itself as an
Aveda Salon and Gentlemen s Parlor an examination of the male demographics must be measured.
The total male population sits at 37,844 (2015) of which those aged 25 to 49 represent the majority
of the male population (Suburban Stats, 2016). Fortunately, these demographics paint a bright
picture because females aged

Consciousness and Philosophers of the Mind
Consciousness and Philosophers of Mind
Consciousness is a word used by philosophers, to signify that immediate knowledge which we
have of our present thoughts and purposes, and, in general of all the operations of our mind...
[and] if I am asked to prove that I cannot be deceived by consciousness to prove that it is not a
fallacious sense I can find no proof... (Thomas Reid, referenced by Lehrer, 2008).
Introduction
There are many features of consciousness that philosophers of the mind discuss and debate. Two
are found within the philosophy of Russ McBride; they are: a) ...a conscious creature or subject ;
and b) a conscious mental state (Manson, 2011, 100). Another philosophy professor, Michael
Antony, sees two features that are commonly debated and dissected by scholars in and out of the
field of philosophy. Those features are the conscious state and the conscious creature both of
which will be further developed in this paper. Are mental states always clearly conscious states ?
Or are they clearly not conscious? Antony argues that it is impossible to accept that there could be
any borderline cases or fuzzy boundaries for concepts of consciousness (Antony, 2008). Antony s
and other approaches to consciousness are reviewed and critiqued in this paper.
The Literature on Consciousness
The concept of consciousness is ambiguous and polysemic (having more than one meaning),
according to professor Neil Manson (King s College in London). The fact that

The Behavioural Inattention Test ( Conventional ; Bitc )
The Behavioural Inattention Test (Conventional; BITC) is a battery of six tests which include
the following: line crossing (also known as Albert s Test), letter cancellation, star cancellation,
copying, line bisection, and representational drawing (i.e. clock drawing task; Wilson, Cockburn,
Halligan, 1987). Each test and any subtests within the battery will be tabulated in greater detail
below. It is important to note that many ADHOC versions of these tests are available online and
can also be freely drawn by a clinician; however, the tests shown here are the originals. It is
always advisable to administer the original tests if they are available at the time as it will mean
more reliable and valid scoring. Cancellation Tests The main purpose of cancellation tasks are to
assess for deficits in visual scanning and visual neglect (such as unilateral spatial neglect [USN];
Wilson et al., 1987). The table below will outline the different types of cancellation (Cx) tasks and
what they assess. These tests in particular are not used to formally diagnose deficits in visual
neglect or scanning, but they do act as an initial screening tool and can help in identifying
difficulties surrounding certain aspects of the patient s visuospatial abilities. By using these
screening tools, it provides the clinician with an indication of what needs to be further investigated
by more formal tests and/or neuroimaging (Halligan, Cockburn, Wilson, 1991). Star CxLetter

The Success of the Pirates of the Caribbean in Appealing...
The Success of the Pirates of the Caribbean in Appealing to a Wide Audience
Pirates of the Caribbean has a wide range of attractive qualities such as the fast paced action and
the way the camera work, music and action fit in together to make a fantastic family film witch
draws you to watch it again and again.
The hero s and villains play an interesting part but the best part is played by Johnny Depp as the anti
hero captain Jack Sparrow. His cunning personality makes you grin as even in the face of death
he s laughing and making jokes. For example towards the end of the film when he is about to be
hung he is laughing at the crimes he is about to be hung for.
He tricks people into ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The fast paced action like the swordfight between him and Barbossa at the end, two immortal
pirates locked in an everlasting battle.
This makes the film wide ranged because has romance, action, comedy, and fantasy, this helps the
film appeal to a wider audience.
The fantasy part of the film in my opinion is the best aspect of the film. The idea of pirates and
curses would fascinate the audience to watch with interest. It is a compelling story line which
works well with the special effects. For example when Elizabeth first learns about the curse and
doesn t believe it she walks out onto the deck and sees all the all the pirates in their ghostly form.
Any film goer would love this new and original storyline
The camera angles work well in the different parts of the film. At the beginning of the film when
we first see Elizabeth as a child the angle starts low and then zooms in on Elizabeth just the way
the camera is positioned shows us that Elizabeth is an important character. In another part of the
film when the undead pirates are walking on the sea bed the wide angle gives an affect that there
are more pirates than there really are. This gives the film a better look which appeals to everyone
that is watching.
The range of music in the film is excellent. The music is

Analysis Of Alexis De Tocqueville s Life
It was Monday, October 27th, 2014; Alexis De Tocqueville was casually heading down to the
local election hall in Toronto for the municipal elections occurring that night. As he stepped in
and stood in line for his turn, he noticed two individuals ahead of him. At closer inspection, he
was in awe to realize these two gentlemen happened to be Adam Smith and Karl Marx, two great
philosophers he had always wanted to meet and converse with. Smith and Marx, realizing their
admirer staring, immediately recognized Tocqueville as well and at that moment, all three of
their eyes lit in excitement. After turning in their votes, the three agreed to go to a nearby
restaurant for some nachos because who does not like nachos after voting on a Monday night.
Since they had just come from voting for the elections, it was only appropriate the topic of their
discussion should be something related. De Tocqueville, taking the initiative when they had
settled down, decided to throw a question to Marx and Smith after they had finished snacking on
perfectly dressed nachos and having a few drinks. But before he could, Adam Smith declared he
was too tired to go through what is about to occur, so they decided to just leave him as he passes
out on his seat. Looking at Marx, Tocqueville asked, Well, now that we are here, and have just
finished voting and eating, I would like to ask you and your great mind what you personally think
about the importance of governments? Having unique opinions and

The movie hurt locker written by Mark Boal and directed by Kathryn Bigelow. It displays the
war in middle east vividly. The story began when the bomb tech team leader Sergeant Thompson
was killed in an accident. Sergeant James was there to replaced him and the movie was reflecting
on various conflicts that the tech team has encountered. Although hurt locker alludes to the typical
hollywood heroism and patriotism, in fact, it actually suggested how war is terrible and how it

misunderstanding between 2 cultures, and the conflict between responsibility and addiction .

Professional Inhletes And Professional Athlete
Have you ever thought about how much money professional athletes make? Do you think they
make too much? Professional athletes get paid way more than the average person. Alex
Rodriguez, who played for the New York Yankees, made the amount of money it would take to
feed a country s poor for an entire year, and yet he used steroids to make him better. (Bhagat) The
amount of money players make is absurd to some people, but the team s ticket sales and
merchandise sold means more money for them. (Callahan) The very people who complain about
the players making too much buy those stuff from them. Professional athletes salaries are a lot
greater than the average person. According to Bustle.com, Tom Brady made $14,800,000 in the
2014 2015 season. An average Massachusetts teacher only makes $72,129 a year. That is just
how much Brady made from his contract with the Patriots. He also had many sponsorships and
partnerships with big companies like Under Armour and Aston Martin. (Source 4) Even the
President of the United States only makes $400,000 a year. He makes many big decisions for
our country and yet he makes a small percentage of what professional athletes make. (Bhagat)
Remember all those players back in the day that were known as some of the best? Do you think
they got paid as much as the best players right now? The amount of money that Cristiano Ronaldo
makes is tremendous. He currently makes $36 million dollars a year. Pele, a well known Brazilian

Parker s Back And A Rose For Emily Analysis
Narrative Point of View in Parker s Back and A Rose For Emily An author s use of narrative point
of view has a significant impact on the presentation and interpretation of a text. The choice of a first
person narrative, for instance, will create a viewpoint that is substantially different in comparison to
a third person narrative. In Parker s Back, Flannery O Connor uses a third person limited point of
view. Faulkner s A Rose For Emily employs a first person point of view. In Parker s Back, the
third person limited narrative allows the author to take an objective, analytical view of Parker that
allows the reader to understand the protagonist s psychology; in A Rose For Emily, the reader s
knowledge of Miss Emily is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the same way that the eyes of the tattoo make Parker feel transparent, the third person limited
narration also makes Parker transparent to the reader by allowing the reader to access Parker s
thoughts and feelings. Parker likes to maintain control over what is seen and known about him;
this is clear in the fact that all of his previous tattoos have been on the front of his body: He had
no desire for one anywhere he could not readily see it himself (Kennedy and Gioia 430). On a
more abstract level, Parker keeps his real name a secret and goes only by his initials; his first
real act of intimacy with Sarah Ruth is to share his name: Obadiah Elihue. The third person
limited point of view, therefore, allows the reader to do what both the eyes of Christ in the
tattoo and Parker s wife do: to see Parker as he really is, not as he pretends to be. In contrast to the
third person limited point of view in Parker s Back, the point of view in A Rose For Emily is the
first person. The narrator s exact identity; the first line refers to our whole town, implying that s

town as a collective whole. Rather than being told by a narrator who is outside of the story, and
therefore objective, the first person nature of this narrator

Persuasive Essay On Child Circumcision
Imagine you are in hospital room somewhere in Malaysia. A young girl timidly toddles in with
her mother, and is soon restrained by her mother and a medical attendant while her genitals are cut
against her will. This will ensure that her body is cleaner, her mother has been conditioned to
think. It will also make her daughter s genitals look more aesthetically pleasing. After the procedure
has been completed, the girl lay there suffering in pain, and the doctor proudly announces to her
mother, Congratulations! Her circumcision is finished! As appalling as it is to imagine this
scenario, thousands of American newborns go through this trauma every day; simply change the
gender from girl to boy. Routine infant circumcision (RIC) is described as the nonreligious elective
removal of the prepuce of the penisin the days following birth, [and] is the most common surgery
performed in the United States. (Mitchell and Beal)
Although circumcision is thought to be one of the oldest procedures in the world, the manner in
which American doctors perform it is relatively new. Unbeknownst to most modern day Americans,
circumcision wasn t widely practiced in the country until about 1910. As a matter of fact, none of
our founding fathers, including Thomas Jefferson and George Washington, were circumcised!
Americans tend to be dumbfounded when they learn that about 80 percent of the world s
population do not practice circumcision, nor have they ever done so. (Wallerstein) We are, in

Business Monitoring For Field Service
In an era of deregulation and increased competition, service companies must provide prompt,
efficient service that their customers will not risk losing. To optimize return on fleet assets and
valuable technician time, fleet managers need to maintain service units in top operating condition,
and have instant visibility into their locations and availability at all times.
Your technicians are certified professionals who are experienced in their fields, not professional
drivers. Yet many servicecompanies expose themselves to the risk of dangerous, costly and
reputation ruining collisions by putting technicians who lack professional driving training behind
the wheels of their service vehicles or vans.
Faced with dense dispatch schedules, technicians are tempted to cut corners on safe, fuel efficient
driving in hopes of keeping on track. Driving incidents and citations cause further delays and
increase costs for insurance premiums, vehicle wear and tear, liability, and fuel as well as damage
to the company s reputation. Yet for too many companies, improving driving behavior is merely an
afterthought. This is one facet of business monitoring for field service organizations that most
CEOs, CIOs, COOs and managers don t pay enough attention to. Considering the cost of one safety
related event, why?
Let s look at the data. On average field service technicians spend roughly 35% of their time on the
road, yet they aren t professional drivers. Additionally, according to

Parapsychological Argument
The purpose of science is to work towards furthering our comprehension of how the world around
us works, either by observing certain patterns or collecting empirical evidence with the
experimental method. It has been evidenced that mainstream science has rejected parapsychology
for decades now; textbooks ignore the concept of telekinesis, which is the power to move objects
with one s mind (McGreal, 2014), and scienceagencies have refused to provide funding for
scientific research that studies parapsychology(Alcock, 1987). Although many proponents of
parapsychology argue that scientists must consider all empirical evidence with an open mind and
that the mere existence of evidence indicates psi s validity as a science (McGreal, 2014),... Show

A major principle that the concepts of parapsychology violate is the replicability principle; the main
argument made by sceptics is that, because attempts to reliably replicate initially successful psi
experiments have had a history of repeated failure, parapsychology is not only unconvincing but
also demonstrates an inconsistency that conflicts with the nature of scientific concepts and patterns
about the natural world. In addition to lack of reliable evidence, the concepts and ideas of
parapsychology have not been substantiated with an entity of scientific knowledge containing a
coherent rationale or framework, and is merely a collection of anecdotal evidence (Holroyd, 1997).
Parapsychology also violates the extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence principle; psi
is definitely an extraordinary concept, to the point of supernatural, yet there is a very small amount
of substantial or significantly consistent evidence that supports this theory, if any at all; in fact,
existing evidence has been shown to be inconsistent and contradictory. Finally psi is rejected by
the Occam s Razor principle because of the complexity of its topics and subsequent explanations
for its effect, due to the fact that it cannot be supported by any implicit physical or biological

to handle excessive price setting for medical companies, out of pockets costs, and providing
credit to those facing higher health expenses. Trump, on the other hand, wants to completely get

families and doctors to be the main decision makers in medical situations, as well as pushing to

Minimum Wage Pros And Cons Essay
Cons of the minimum wage: As discussed earlier, the minimum wage would ultimately increase
unemployment levels due to the labour getting costlier. This would not only threaten the current
workers, but would also affect the unemployed people looking for jobs. Securing a job would be
more challenging as employers would want to hire the best possible candidates who they deem
worthy of the minimum wage.
10 Another disadvantage of having a minimum wage is the Deadweight loss from Minimum Wage
. Plenty of people who work in the unorganised sector, have those jobs because they are willing to
work for less. They provide cheap labour and thus are affordable to hire in those industries.

Realism And Romanticism In The Boarded Window By Ambrose...
Many of our time rely on credit and debit cards when purchasing items. While the two seem
identical to one another, failure to know the difference can result in an economic catastrophe on
the card owner s part. Debit cards are used as a way to spend money that the consumer already has

In addition, the old man lived in a forest where he built a house where the land, had once been

the ravage wrought by the axe (17). The Realism movement accepted the fact that nature will be
destroyed by humanity in time, this is portrayed with Bierce s description of the damaged forest,
making the story a Realistic one. Murlock s average life clearly portrays the story as one of the
Realistic movement, classically portraying a slice of life mentality. Although this story has
evidence of being a Realistic writer s work, some may portray the story as one from the
Romanticism movement, a movement which is nearly the opposite of Realism. The writers of
the Romanticism added supernatural ideas and events into their story in order to focus on
imagination. In The Boarded Window Murlock s house is seen as dismal and dreary by his
fellow town members and it is rare that he receives a visit from a neighbor. When describing the
house, Bierce says all the children were afraid of the house and would run away to avoid the
ghost (17). This supernatural element allows the reader to think this story is Romantic and is
solely of the imagination. In addition, after the passing of Murlock s wife, he prepares for her
burial, and decides to keep his lifeless wife in his house until the day of her final departure. One

Summary Of The Essay Not Rants
Essays, Not Rants! 218: A Response
There s a recent New York Times article I came across that laments how the rise of the superhero
genre has conflated actor stardom with character stardom. The article itself doesn t really chase
down the points too well, but the central gist (as far as I can see) is that in the recent slate of
films, characters have come to trump actors. As Wesley Morris suggests in the article, when you
watch Oceans Eleven, it s George Clooney doing all the cool stuff as Danny Ocean; but when you
watch Rush, you don t see Chris Hemsworth as James Hunt, you see Thor as James Hunt. And as
more big name actors get roped in to superhero films (Cate Blanchett s gonna be in Thor:
Ragnarok!), it s more actors being roped in to playing a specific character.
Which makes Morris point of view seem a little weird. He implies that the fun of Ocean s Eleven
is seeing the star studded cast play off of each other, whereas Civil War is more about watching the
characters interact; the former being better. Which begs the question of whether or not you re
supposed to forget that it s an actor playing a character and not something happening before you.
Now, the attitude here feels a lot like that kid who s angry ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Gothic Trope Deception In Caleb Williams
Not only does Ann Radcliffe use the gothic trope deception and destruction William Godwin
uses it as well throughout his novel Caleb Williams. However, Godwin uses deception through
political systems and through the two main characters, Falkland and Caleb Williams. Falkland
is an urban landowner and hires Caleb Williams to transcribe, arrange certain papers and partly
write his dictation letters of business, as well as sketches of literary composition: he performed
the functions of a librarian as well as secretary (Godwin 1.1.pg.5). Falkland is believed to be a
well off and exceedingly appreciated landlord, who is passionately eager of keeping his
appearance. For example on page 4 in volume one chapter one Caleb describes Falkland as a man
of stature and he was kind and attentive. He is known to be an understanding businessperson but
is vulnerable to uncharacteristic hysterics of convulsions which no one knows about except his
servant, Collins. On the other hand, three months after Caleb started working for him he saw
Falkland having one of these distempers: he heard the lid of a chest hastily slam and lock and
heard a voice that seemed supernaturally tremendous. The sound of it thrilled Caleb s very

Failure And How After Failure
Failure
It absolutely was difficult for me to think of your good career as my low academics profile
snatched all my confidence and made myself suffer from inferiority complex for some time. When
I failed in class 11th it was less shocking for me, but all my hopes of getting in to a good profession
shattered when I failed in the 11th. I passed my SSC with a miserable credit score of 44% and

Fate In Ancient Greece And The Iliad
Fate greatly affects a person s day to day life, regardless of where, and when a person lived.
Whether fate was decided and set in stone, or if considered more fluid and changing, fate
influences a society. Even today, people will base choices on fate and leave decisions up to fate,
whether to cease anxieties over a big life change, or deciding that it was faith that you found
twenty dollars on the sidewalk and you deserve to splurge on ice cream. A society interacts with the
divine through fate. Because religionin every culture is different, fate as a concept differs from
culture to culture, but every culture has a good and a bad ending. Without the outcome of a good
or bad fate, there would be no need for religion. Because of the possibility... Show more content on

There are differences in the interpretation of cultural aspects in Greek and Roman literature.
Greece and Rome both place heavy significance on fate, although, what defines fate is seemingly
different in the Golden Ass when compared to the Iliad. In the Iliad, the characters appear to
understand their predetermined fate as soldiers, then to the left our ready arms apply, / And live
with glory, or with glory die (Homer 245), even though, individually, characters may ignore
prophecies which ultimately predict their fate. In the Iliad, whether because of divine
intervention or destiny, the characters have little impact on their own fate. In the Golden Ass,
fate is never outright predetermined, and the characters individual actions matter. Although it
may be alluded to, in stories like Lucius s, it is unknown how the story will end, until it has
ended. In the Iliad, because of the prophecy, the reader knows Achilles will win the war for the
Greeks, and according to Zeus s golden scale, Hector is doomed to die and cannot be saved. In
the Iliad, the fate of Achilles is somewhat predestined to be a war hero. This prediction is lived
out by Achilles, as he returns to the war and ultimately defeats the Trojans for Greece, and is
declared a hero. Fate is seen as concrete, and unchanging. This is seen in most Greek literature, but
in the Iliad, the entirety of the book is based on

Critique of Actors in Charles Griffith s Little Shop of Horrors
Little Shop Horrors is a story about a man who finds an unusual plant in a Chinese market. The
man, Seymour nurses the Venus flytrap like plant to full health by his blood. The plant wins him
everything he could want, respect, love and money. All to be lost in unity at the end. The main plot
of little shop of Horrors revolves around Seymour. Seymour s ambition of Audrey to become his
girlfriend. Seymour also wants respect from his boss and he also wants to make a little money.
The play Little Shop of Horrors was written by Charles Griffith, the lyrics were created by Robert

The volume of Seymour s voice was loud and projected somewhat far. The pitch was high and
squeaky. The overall quality of the voice was by far not the best. He is someone with whom you
could only speak with for a short amount of time. Seymour would pause occasionally taking short
breaths only to continue with more choppy sentences. When Seymour defends Audrey against
Orin Scrivello DDS in the dentist office his voice was on the fritz. When the drill was turned on
Seymour squirmed in his chair and his voice was louder and higher pitched than the drill. The
inflection of his voice was very drastic it would be somewhat loud and than soft again. Overall the
vocal quality was quite detailed and portrayed Seymour in a realistic perspective.
Miles did a good job of slipping into the role of Seymour. The character is an uptight person that
has a lot of psychological and emotional problems. I believed in Seymour for who he was. The
only way to fool an audience is to erase suspicion from their mind. For instance if the audience is
suspect that you are acting than believability is already lost. I was able to pick up very small
clues Miles used to evoke the character of Seymour. Miles would play with his glasses like
Seymour would. He would also scratch his face and squint his eyes. This is what I would think
Seymour would do subconcisouly. The reactions of Seymour were understandable. When Audrey II

Political Challenges Of Olympe De Gouges
A Fierce Female s Political Quest; Olympe De Gouges Discovering Olympe de Gouges work has

as Beckstrand wrote in her article she [Olympe de Gouges] wrote forty one plays, twenty nine
works of prose and sixty three political pamphlets, taking unpopular stances on difficult issues
concerning women s rights and the abolition of slavery (185). De Gouges can be remembered as a
passionate individual, courageous, intense and extremely dedicated to her cause. Furthermore this
intriguing lady never backed down from a challenge, and she continued to fight for her ideals, until
she was [guillotined] on November 4, 1793 for her controversial writing (Beckstrand 185). Olympe

Dallas IVF offers gay fertility options to help members of the LGBT community become parents
When gay patients come to Dallas IVF, they often ask our fertility specialists if they have more
family building options than adoption. Our Dallas fertility center is always excited to tell patients
that we offer successful gay fertility options, including egg donation and surrogacy.

Some patients prefer to ask a friend or a family to be their egg donor, while others may opt to use
an anonymous egg donor.
After selecting the egg donor, one of our fertility specialists will perform intrauterine insemination,
IUI, on the egg donor if she will be carrying the pregnancy. If another woman, known as a
surrogate, will carry the pregnancy, then our fertility center will perform in vitro fertilization, IVF.
Surrogacy is another gay fertility option that is related to egg donation
When patients select egg donation as their family building tool, the fertility specialists at our Dallas
fertility center must also discuss surrogacy. After all, gay patients need a woman to carry the
pregnancy. Patients have two options for surrogacy.
In an arrangement called traditional surrogacy, the egg donor will also serve as the surrogate. The
surrogate will undergo IUI using the father s sperm.
In a situation known as gestational surrogacy, a woman other than egg donor will serve as the
surrogate. The donor eggs are fertilized with the father s sperm during IVF and the resulting
embryos are transferred to the surrogate s uterus of the

Negative Effects Of Drugs In Sports
I believe that performance enhancing drugs are recognized as a negative effect to the sports society
because of the effects and unfair advantage it gives athletes. Athletes who are serious about their
game want to win at any cost and some do so using performance enhancing drugs. These
performance enhancing drugs include: anabolic steroids, androstenedione, human growth hormone,
erythropoietin, diuretics, creatine and stimulants.
Every college athlete wants to be the best and with the increase of childhood athletes, stress to
perform at a high level increase as well. The drive to be successful in their competition and
perform at a high level often is positive, resulting in self confidence, teamwork, and leadership. The
drive can also result in a negative one as well. For an example, winning at all costs. Athletes
sometimes lose focus of the game itself and become selfish, taking performance enhancing drugs it
not only puts athlete s health at risk but it also gives them unfair advantage to others. Testosteroneis
a sex hormone that plays an important role in our body, especially men. In men, it regulates sex
drive, bone mass, fat distribution, muscle mass and strength. There are two different effects that
testosterone has on our body: Anabolic effects (promotes muscle building) and Androgenic effects
(facial hair deeper voice). This hormone is largely responsible for our muscle tissue and our total
metabolic rate. When testosterone levels increase, so does our

Summary Of Mind Over Money
Raniel Gernale
Finance Documentary Review
The documentary, Mind Over Money, discusses the impact of emotions on financial decisions.
Our behavior is bizarre when it comes to money. This video clearly shows this effect in its first
example. When a 20 dollar bill was auctioned off, two buyers paid over the bill s value. People do
not use the information they should not be using, but use other information that is said to be crazy
to use. The University of Chicago has given rise to the most Nobel prize winners in economics in
the world. Here, the theory of economics shows that having rational behavior is one of the most
relied on model of economics. Behavior is a very important concept since people are seen to work

Expert billiards players might not know a thing about physics or trigonometry, but they play as if
they do. This is also definitely seen in traders, as some just seem like they know what they are
doing.
Relating back to the 20 dollar bill auction, behavior and psychology play a major role. One should
not pay more than 20 dollars. This is due to the emotional desire to win that drives bids up, and
the fear of being a loser that drives them even higher. Another experiment that related this theory
was a bid over a bottle of wine. This was a prime example about anchoring. They were anchored by
some random number they were given, and this influenced the amount they used for the bottle of

Tile Work
Incorrect tile placements are common mistakes for the DIY projects. Wrong positions and gaps

Failures Of The Articles Of Confederation
In 1776, the Declaration of Independence, drafted by Thomas Jefferson, was formally adopted.
The American Revolution had already been going on with the battles of Lexington and Concord
over a year prior, but the first government of the United States is the Articles of Confederation, a
constitution based on Republican ideas and democracy. The Continental Congress approved the
Articles of Confederation in 1777. It was adopted, written by John Dickinson, but there was a
delay in ratifying it by the states. States like Virginia and Massachusetts had claimed a bunch of
land stretching from the East Coast all the way to the Pacific Ocean as part of their colonial
charters. States like Maryland and Pennsylvania, who did not have these land claims, did not want
to ratify this new national government until the land is relinquished. It was not until in 1781 when
the states officially ratified the Articles of Confederation. From 1781 to 1789, the Articles of
Confederation failed and had created problems in political, economic, and foreign policies, making
this new national government an ineffective government. The Articles of Confederation is a

Narrative Vacation
Over the summer, my family and I travelled to Manila, the capital of the Philippines for three
days. It was already 90 degrees and dreadfully humid once we arrived. My body started to sweat
profusely, making me drink a gallon of water in less than a minute. Not only that, traffic was
horrendous. Traffic lights were nonexistent, vendors were knocking on the windows trying to
sell newspapers, and people in their jeepney were screaming, Go! Go! Go! All of this was not new
to us, however. We lived here for two years, then moved to America when I was seven years old.
Many view vacation as a time for relaxation and living the lavish life, but for me it was a
realization of how I should be grateful for my life. Hours before the flight, I felt ecstatic. I was
ready to spend my hard earned paychecks on new clothing and shoes. We arrived at five in the
morning the following day and it took almost an hour to arrive at my relative s house. My sister
and I were surprised by the housing conditions. It reminded me of favelas in Brazil. Houses were
cramped, the power kept on turning off and on, trash was everywhere, and roofs were leaking.
We were terrified, wondering if this place was safe, but my parents did not care. They were too

The disease spread through eight districts in the Chinese and Mongol dynasties. The deaths were
so severe that some areas didn t even have time to bury all the bodies, so they just stacked them
up against the city walls. Next, the plague spread to Europe, it arrived in Europe through trading
ships. By the time the ships landed in Messina. Most of the crew members on the ships were
either dead or infected. The abandon ships peaked a lot of interest and since the ships were
infested with rodents, the locals that looted from the ships helped the disease spread even
further. By 1348 the disease spread all the way to Genoa and Venice. Then the disease went from
Italy and spread northwest France, Spain, Portugal, and England by June 1348. This is a rapid
spread rate since six countries in less than a year. Although the disease was not yet done with
Europe, it then spread east through Germany and Scandinavia through 1350. The last stop in
Europe was Russia in 1351. The last stop for the Black Plague was the Middle East. The
outbreak in the Middle East led to serious depopulation and economic structures just like the other
countries. When the disease reached Mecca, the people of Mecca tried to blame it on non
believers. The plague continued to kill people all the way up to the Seventeenth century and there
have even been isolated cases as recent as 1980 (Black Death). The Black Plague had many

Atlit Yam Essay
Atlit Yam in Israel
Atlit Yam is a typical Neolithic site submerged in the Mediterranean Sea, near the coast of Haifa,
Israel (Holloway, 2014). This ancient village, aging 9,000 years old, started to be excavated in
1990s (Marchant, 2009). There have been numerous remains discovered by archaeologists,
including a large amount of houses and walls, a water well surrounded by stone baluster, a large
number of human remains and plenty of artefacts made by stone, wood and bone (Holloway,
2014). One of the most exciting discoveries is some skeletons of women and children, which have
been confirmed to be the earliest known cases of tuberculosis (Marchant, 2009). This settlement
provides an excellent chance to study life in the Neolithic Age.
Reasons of the subsidence of Atlit Yam are complicated. Basically, the erosion of saltwater, the
tectonic effects and eustatic effects may all make contribution to the submergence of the village.
With the erosion of saltwater, the well in Atlit Yam was contaminated badly so that the village
was abandoned by its people, not long before it was covered by sand and water (Marchant, 2009).

The Importance Of Employee Job Roles For Staff Retention...
Introduction: The agenda of this essay is to discuss the HRM functions which need to be
integrated with each other to achieve the bottom line business objective within Telstra. Telstra

There is analysis of this issue of downsizing by Telstra and a discussion on what are the strategies
used to achieve the goals. There is a discussion on what is required to achieve future business

Essay On Michael Faraday
Research Paper Draft An expression states, Curiosity killed the cat. In the case of science, curiosity
has helped figure out what exactly makes the world go around the sun and many other things that
we could not live without knowing. Curiosity sparks an interest and is the reason for flying a kite
in the middle of a lightning storm, it is the reason we have cars, computers and other machines.
Throughout history, there are many famous scientists and chemists that have helped explain, and
shape the world we live in, Michael Faradayis one of those people. He caused a big impact on the
world through his beliefs, discoveries, and contributions to the scientific world.

In 1812, a customer gave Faraday some tickets to hear some lectures at the Royal Institution. He got
the chance to listen to four of Humphry Davy s (one of the most famous chemist of that time)
lectures. Michael loved every moment of the lectures and was later, offered a job as a chemical
assistant at the institution.
Faraday got the chance to do experiments for the Royal Institution as well as creating some of his
own. He gave his first lecture ever in 1816 on the properties of matter and published his first
academic paper on the analysis of calcium hydroxide. In 1820, Michael submitted two papers to the
Royal Institution. The first was about magnets and their electric current; he found that magnets
exert a force on a wire carrying electric current. The second paper was on how to liquefy chlorine
and isolate benzene, which has become a fundamental component of organic chemistry. In 1821, he
was promoted to be the Superintendent of House and Laboratory of the Royal Institution and
published his work on electromagnetic rotation, which contributed to the electric motor in the
future. He found that liquid mercury was a good conductor of electricity and metal wires in the
mercury will continue to rotate around a central magnet as long as there is an electric current
flowing through the circuit. He found that a wire carrying electric

Literature Review
Several studies have shown that injection drug users lower their risk of transmitting infectious
diseases when there is a needle exchange program available. There has not been a valid study of
whether or not the amounts of time needles are returned to the exchange programs are harmful to
communities. The Journal of Public Health, conducted surveys, evidence from needle exchange
sites, jails, and institutions that needle exchange programs are effective in reducing illnesses such
as HIV and AIDS (Burt Theide, 2016). Furthermore, Reepalu, Blome, Bjork, Widell, Bjorkman
(2012), researched the same individuals for 20 years, with no breaks. Their studies concluded that
injection drug use, not only heightens the risk for HIV and AID s, there is also an increase in
Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C. However, there studies showed that there is not an increase rate of
cancer diagnoses due to injection drug use. In a study conducted by Bonar and Rosenberg (2014),
they wanted to see if self initiated harm strategies, such as: proper needle sterilization techniques,
proper disposal of needles, and cleaning of the pre injected skin, could help improve the health of
those that use drugs intravenously. Their study was conducted over an eight month period, results
showed that their

Wit Movie Analysis
Wit is a movie based on the point of view of an english professor, Dr. Vivian Bearing. She is
awakened by the news that she has stage four ovarian cancer and agrees to immediately undergo
treatment. While she struggles through rigorous chemotherapy and her final stages of ovarian
cancer, the movie focuses on Bearing s reflections and flashbacks, as well as her interactions
with her primary care providers. Bearing is an outstanding, hardworking and established
educator, yet she has devoted her life to researching, understanding, and teaching so much that
she has come under the impression of being a lonely and isolated individual. She keeps a
distance between herself and those around her. For example, Professor Ashford, Bearing s
mentor, once advised her to use her intelligence, avoid the library, and go out and enjoy herself
with friends, yet she did the complete opposite (Woodward, J.M., 2001). This just proves that she
internalizes herself. Not to mention, it is essential that patients have a support group, especially
family, because it will help patients cope with stress and give them comfort, structure and
dependency so that they are not alone (Caplan, 2017). Alternatively, Bearing rejects having
support as she expresses: I am not in isolation because I have cancer, because I have a tumor the
size of a grapefruit. No. I am in isolation because I am being treated for cancer (Edson, 1999).
Since her cancer treatments imperiled her health, she is more susceptible to

Cheer Tryouts
It s one day until cheer tryouts. For some reason I was thinking about it during the middle of
math class, but I m not real sure as to why. Trista, what s the answer to number....... I didn t notice
the teacher was talking to me so I didn t hear what number it was. I m never listening anyways.
Sorry sir, what number was that again? I said. Number three, Trista. My neighbor answered me,
so I fumbled with my papers to find the right page. After about a decade, I finally found it, but the
teacher had already moved on to the next student. I can t believe I was so zoned out. I m kind of
used to it by now. Lunch was the same thing. I was completely zoned out and still thinking of cheer.
That s all I could think about and nothing else. All throughout... Show more content on

I was done. I did it. I was all smiles as I walked back through the double doors. Several people
mouthed to me, Did you mess up? Did you do good? Did you do this? Did you do that? All I
could do was smile and nod my head yes. Later that night me and my friends ran up to the front
doors of East to find out who made the team. Before I could even get out of the car I took a deep
breath and hoped for the best. I slowly stepped out of the car and waited there for a moment.
Two point five seconds later I was running like a cheetah towards the front door of the school. I
looked crazily for my number on the sheet of paper. It was there. I couldn t believe it. So many
thoughts were going through my head. I literally couldn t think right. Me and my friends started
hugging each other. To my surprise all my friends made it, and I was so proud of them. I layed in
bed that night thinking about how fortunate I was to be in such a good place. Good grades, good

The Theory Of The Firm Essay
Knowledge Resources in the Theory of the Firm
Proponents of the knowledge based theory of the firm point out that this one sided concentration on
incentive conflicts in the economics of organizational literature overlooks the production side of the
firm. Langlois and Foss, for example, argue that the literature has unreflectively relied on a
dichotomy between productive aspects and exchange aspects of the firm, that is, on a dichotomy
between production costs and exchange costs. In analyzing exchange costs the literature recognizes
that exchange itself is not costless, but involves transaction costs from imperfect knowledge and
opportunism. But in analyzing production costs, there has been an embedded agreement that price
theory tells us all we need to know about production. As Langlois and Foss point out, however, it is
very likely that knowledge about how to produce is imperfect and that knowledge about how to link
together one person s (or organization s) productive knowledge with that of another is imperfect.
These twin issues of capabilities and coordination are discrete from the hazards of astringent that
other traditional beliefs have focused on. Both knowledge resources and (imperfect) production
costs can be said to vary depending on the attributes of a production process, in the same way that
transaction costs differ depending on the asset attributes of investment projects. Thus, instead of
holding technology constant across alternative modes of organization as a

What Is The Theme Of The River By James W. Brown
Analytical essay on The river by James W. Brown
Raising a child can be done in various ways. Of course it depends on which gender your child is,
but overall it is pretty much the same. The best way to raise a child is to make sure that they respect
things around them. That they cannot go around behaving, as they want too. But, men have a thing
that they always want to learn their boys. Manhood. Manhood is something a boy needs. Manhood
is the thing that separates the boys from the men. It can be taught in many ways and some men
take their boys on survival trips. This is what a father does with his young boy in the short story
The river by James W. Brown written in 2009.
In the short story The river we hear about a father and a son on a trip. The father wants to teach
the son how to cross a strong river. Trying to make a manout of him. While trying to teach his son,
he makes some mistakes and it will make him pay a great price.
The short story The river takes place in a few places. We first hear about the father and his son
sitting in a car on the way, on their trip. Later we hear about them in the forest, of some kind,
while the father explains to his son how to get over the river. We hear about the father and the son,
but we do not hear that much about the mother. The only thing we hear about her is in line 18 20: At

that something is going to happen. Even the father thinks that something is wrong with the
place. It looks different, compared to the last time he was there. The father also get the feeling
that they should back. The description of the setting is quite negative. When the first car
appeared he could see it from a long way off, dragging a cloud of mist like a parachute It is raining
and it does not look like it is about to stop. It is not weather to go on is kind of

A Twomey and G Withers, Federalist Paper 1 Australias Federal Future, Council for the Australian
Federation, April 2007, p 15.
Title of consider
Where there are problems, they are often with the way the Australian federal system operates, rather
than with federalism itself. Rather than criticising our federal system, we should be working to
make better use of its advantages
in order to improve our prosperity. In particular, the reform of
the allocation of powers and responsibilities between the Commonwealth and the States, and reform
of fiscal federalism, are desperately needed. (Twomey and Withers, 2007)
Twomey and Withers argue the approach of strategic pragmatism as outlined in Wanna s paper. The
basis of their position is that the federalism structure is unlikely to be subject to major redesign and
the discussion should focus on improving current operation.
Commonwealth Government, Budget Paper No 3: Australia s Federal Relations, 2009 10, 12 May
2009, p 7.
Federations work best when the roles and responsibilities of each jurisdiction are clear and good
public accountability mechanisms allow the community to hold the appropriate level of
government to account for the quality and efficiency of the services delivered and outcomes

  • 2. The Fate Of The Fruit That Changed The World The author of the book, The Fate of the Fruit that Changed the World (2008), Dan Koeppel, who is a famous journalist describes in a fascinating way banana s cultural importance, threats associated with the crops of banana in the future and banana history. Banana is a very delicious fruit and is eaten all over the world. Bananais one of the world s fourth largest harvests in the world. Dole and Chiquita are eminent American based distributors and producers of banana. They are claiming to produce the banana on low price. In this book, Koeppel discusses the risks associated to the plantation of banana around the world. He also discusses the fact that due to blight, the plantation of banana is destroyed (Koeppel, 2008). He points out that the farmers and the producers have no insight at all regarding this matter (Koeppel, 2008). Book Review In the book, Banana: The Fate of the Fruit That Changed the World (2008), Dan Koeppel talks about the historical background of banana. He also talks about its importance to African farmers and its importance to Latin America and Asia in economic terms. He describes that a disease called blight has caused serious threats to banana crops, as it is rapidly destroying the banana crops around the world (Koeppel, 2008). In this book, the author describes the role of two mega companies; Dole and Chiquita. They are committing massacres in the name of producing cheap banana. In Latin, America Chiquita is exploiting the labor. It also supports ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Salon Became A Better Business Bureau ( Bbb ) David Gerard Salon opened its Goodyear, AZ location on January 4, 2010, which they market as a Paul Mitchell Focus Salon. The salon became a Better Business Bureau (BBB) accredited business on April 29, 201, and currently has an A+ rating. In December of 2014, the salon opened a second location in Avondale, AZ, which they market as an Aveda Salon and Gentlemen s Parlor. In 2015, this site became a BBB accredited business and like their Goodyear location has an A+ rating. The distance between these two locations is 5.9 miles; thus, it would appear both salons compete against one another for their share of the target audience. Target Audience A review of the demographics for Goodyear, AZ reveals the town has a population of 65,275 (2015) of which 34,651 are women. The demographics also indicate women between the ages of 25 to 44 represent the majority of the female population (Suburban Stats, 2016). The demographics for Avondale, AZ indicate a population of 76,238 (2015) of which 38,394 are women. Like Glendale, women between the ages of 25 to 44 account for the majority of the female population. However, when considering the Avondale location markets itself as an Aveda Salon and Gentlemen s Parlor an examination of the male demographics must be measured. The total male population sits at 37,844 (2015) of which those aged 25 to 49 represent the majority of the male population (Suburban Stats, 2016). Fortunately, these demographics paint a bright picture because females aged ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Consciousness and Philosophers of the Mind Consciousness and Philosophers of Mind Consciousness is a word used by philosophers, to signify that immediate knowledge which we have of our present thoughts and purposes, and, in general of all the operations of our mind... [and] if I am asked to prove that I cannot be deceived by consciousness to prove that it is not a fallacious sense I can find no proof... (Thomas Reid, referenced by Lehrer, 2008). Introduction There are many features of consciousness that philosophers of the mind discuss and debate. Two are found within the philosophy of Russ McBride; they are: a) ...a conscious creature or subject ; and b) a conscious mental state (Manson, 2011, 100). Another philosophy professor, Michael Antony, sees two features that are commonly debated and dissected by scholars in and out of the field of philosophy. Those features are the conscious state and the conscious creature both of which will be further developed in this paper. Are mental states always clearly conscious states ? Or are they clearly not conscious? Antony argues that it is impossible to accept that there could be any borderline cases or fuzzy boundaries for concepts of consciousness (Antony, 2008). Antony s and other approaches to consciousness are reviewed and critiqued in this paper. The Literature on Consciousness The concept of consciousness is ambiguous and polysemic (having more than one meaning), according to professor Neil Manson (King s College in London). The fact that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Behavioural Inattention Test ( Conventional ; Bitc ) The Behavioural Inattention Test (Conventional; BITC) is a battery of six tests which include the following: line crossing (also known as Albert s Test), letter cancellation, star cancellation, copying, line bisection, and representational drawing (i.e. clock drawing task; Wilson, Cockburn, Halligan, 1987). Each test and any subtests within the battery will be tabulated in greater detail below. It is important to note that many ADHOC versions of these tests are available online and can also be freely drawn by a clinician; however, the tests shown here are the originals. It is always advisable to administer the original tests if they are available at the time as it will mean more reliable and valid scoring. Cancellation Tests The main purpose of cancellation tasks are to assess for deficits in visual scanning and visual neglect (such as unilateral spatial neglect [USN]; Wilson et al., 1987). The table below will outline the different types of cancellation (Cx) tasks and what they assess. These tests in particular are not used to formally diagnose deficits in visual neglect or scanning, but they do act as an initial screening tool and can help in identifying difficulties surrounding certain aspects of the patient s visuospatial abilities. By using these screening tools, it provides the clinician with an indication of what needs to be further investigated by more formal tests and/or neuroimaging (Halligan, Cockburn, Wilson, 1991). The Success of the Pirates of the Caribbean in Appealing to a Wide Audience Pirates of the Caribbean has a wide range of attractive qualities such as the fast paced action and the way the camera work, music and action fit in together to make a fantastic family film witch draws you to watch it again and again. The hero s and villains play an interesting part but the best part is played by Johnny Depp as the anti hero captain Jack Sparrow. The fast paced action like the swordfight between him and Barbossa at the end, two immortal pirates locked in an everlasting battle. This makes the film wide ranged because has romance, action, comedy, and fantasy, this helps the film appeal to a wider audience. The fantasy part of the film in my opinion is the best aspect of the film. The idea of pirates and curses would fascinate the audience to watch with interest. It is a compelling story line which works well with the special effects. For example when Elizabeth first learns about the curse and doesn t believe it she walks out onto the deck and sees all the all the pirates in their ghostly form. Any film goer would love this new and original storyline The camera angles work well in the different parts of the film. At the beginning of the film when we first see Elizabeth as a child the angle starts low and then zooms in on Elizabeth just the way the camera is positioned shows us that Elizabeth is an important character. In another part of the film when the undead pirates are walking on the sea bed the wide angle gives an affect that there are more pirates than there really are. This gives the film a better look which appeals to everyone that is watching. The range of music in the film is excellent. The music is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Analysis Of Alexis De Tocqueville s Life It was Monday, October 27th, 2014; Alexis De Tocqueville was casually heading down to the local election hall in Toronto for the municipal elections occurring that night. As he stepped in and stood in line for his turn, he noticed two individuals ahead of him. At closer inspection, he was in awe to realize these two gentlemen happened to be Adam Smith and Karl Marx, two great philosophers he had always wanted to meet and converse with. Smith and Marx, realizing their admirer staring, immediately recognized Tocqueville as well and at that moment, all three of their eyes lit in excitement. After turning in their votes, the three agreed to go to a nearby restaurant for some nachos because who does not like nachos after voting on a Monday night. Since they had just come from voting for the elections, it was only appropriate the topic of their discussion should be something related. De Tocqueville, taking the initiative when they had settled down, decided to throw a question to Marx and Smith after they had finished snacking on perfectly dressed nachos and having a few drinks. But before he could, Adam Smith declared he was too tired to go through what is about to occur, so they decided to just leave him as he passes out on his seat. Looking at Marx, Tocqueville asked, Well, now that we are here, and have just finished voting and eating, I would like to ask you and your great mind what you personally think about the importance of governments? Parker s Back And A Rose For Emily Analysis Narrative Point of View in Parker s Back and A Rose For Emily An author s use of narrative point of view has a significant impact on the presentation and interpretation of a text. The choice of a first person narrative, for instance, will create a viewpoint that is substantially different in comparison to a third person narrative. In Parker s Back, Flannery O Connor uses a third person limited point of view. Faulkner s A Rose For Emily employs a first person point of view. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the same way that the eyes of the tattoo make Parker feel transparent, the third person limited narration also makes Parker transparent to the reader by allowing the reader to access Parker s thoughts and feelings. Parker likes to maintain control over what is seen and known about him; this is clear in the fact that all of his previous tattoos have been on the front of his body: He had no desire for one anywhere he could not readily see it himself (Kennedy and Gioia 430). On a more abstract level, Parker keeps his real name a secret and goes only by his initials; his first real act of intimacy with Sarah Ruth is to share his name: Obadiah Elihue. The third person limited point of view, therefore, allows the reader to do what both the eyes of Christ in the tattoo and Parker s wife do: to see Parker as he really is, not as he pretends to be. • 12. Persuasive Essay On Child Circumcision Imagine you are in hospital room somewhere in Malaysia. A young girl timidly toddles in with her mother, and is soon restrained by her mother and a medical attendant while her genitals are cut against her will. This will ensure that her body is cleaner, her mother has been conditioned to think. It will also make her daughter s genitals look more aesthetically pleasing. After the procedure has been completed, the girl lay there suffering in pain, and the doctor proudly announces to her mother, Congratulations! Her circumcision is finished! As appalling as it is to imagine this scenario, thousands of American newborns go through this trauma every day; simply change the gender from girl to boy. Routine infant circumcision (RIC) is described as the nonreligious elective removal of the prepuce of the penisin the days following birth, [and] is the most common surgery performed in the United States. (Mitchell and Beal) Although circumcision is thought to be one of the oldest procedures in the world, the manner in which American doctors perform it is relatively new. Unbeknownst to most modern day Americans, circumcision wasn t widely practiced in the country until about 1910. As a matter of fact, none of our founding fathers, including Thomas Jefferson and George Washington, were circumcised! Americans tend to be dumbfounded when they learn that about 80 percent of the world s population do not practice circumcision, nor have they ever done so. (Wallerstein) We are, in ... • 13. Business Monitoring For Field Service In an era of deregulation and increased competition, service companies must provide prompt, efficient service that their customers will not risk losing. To optimize return on fleet assets and valuable technician time, fleet managers need to maintain service units in top operating condition, and have instant visibility into their locations and availability at all times. Your technicians are certified professionals who are experienced in their fields, not professional drivers. Yet many servicecompanies expose themselves to the risk of dangerous, costly and reputation ruining collisions by putting technicians who lack professional driving training behind the wheels of their service vehicles or vans. Faced with dense dispatch schedules, technicians are tempted to cut corners on safe, fuel efficient driving in hopes of keeping on track. Driving incidents and citations cause further delays and increase costs for insurance premiums, vehicle wear and tear, liability, and fuel as well as damage to the company s reputation. Yet for too many companies, improving driving behavior is merely an afterthought. This is one facet of business monitoring for field service organizations that most CEOs, CIOs, COOs and managers don t pay enough attention to. Considering the cost of one safety related event, why? Let s look at the data. On average field service technicians spend roughly 35% of their time on the road, yet they aren t professional drivers. Additionally, according to ... • 14. Parapsychological Argument The purpose of science is to work towards furthering our comprehension of how the world around us works, either by observing certain patterns or collecting empirical evidence with the experimental method. It has been evidenced that mainstream science has rejected parapsychology for decades now; textbooks ignore the concept of telekinesis, which is the power to move objects with one s mind (McGreal, 2014), and scienceagencies have refused to provide funding for scientific research that studies parapsychology(Alcock, 1987). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A major principle that the concepts of parapsychology violate is the replicability principle; the main argument made by sceptics is that, because attempts to reliably replicate initially successful psi experiments have had a history of repeated failure, parapsychology is not only unconvincing but also demonstrates an inconsistency that conflicts with the nature of scientific concepts and patterns about the natural world. In addition to lack of reliable evidence, the concepts and ideas of parapsychology have not been substantiated with an entity of scientific knowledge containing a coherent rationale or framework, and is merely a collection of anecdotal evidence (Holroyd, 1997). Parapsychology also violates the extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence principle; psi is definitely an extraordinary concept, to the point of supernatural, yet there is a very small amount of substantial or significantly consistent evidence that supports this theory, if any at all; in fact, existing evidence has been shown to be inconsistent and contradictory. Finally psi is rejected by the Occam s Razor principle because of the complexity of its topics and subsequent explanations for its effect, due to the fact that it cannot be supported by any implicit physical or biological ... Summary Of The Essay Not Rants Essays, Not Rants! 218: A Response There s a recent New York Times article I came across that laments how the rise of the superhero genre has conflated actor stardom with character stardom. The article itself doesn t really chase down the points too well, but the central gist (as far as I can see) is that in the recent slate of films, characters have come to trump actors. As Wesley Morris suggests in the article, when you watch Oceans Eleven, it s George Clooney doing all the cool stuff as Danny Ocean; but when you watch Rush, you don t see Chris Hemsworth as James Hunt, you see Thor as James Hunt. And as more big name actors get roped in to superhero films (Cate Blanchett s gonna be in Thor: Ragnarok!), it s more actors being roped in to playing a specific character. Which makes Morris point of view seem a little weird. He implies that the fun of Ocean s Eleven is seeing the star studded cast play off of each other, whereas Civil War is more about watching the characters interact; the former being better. Which begs the question of whether or not you re supposed to forget that it s an actor playing a character and not something happening before you. Now, the attitude here feels a lot like that kid who s angry ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Which, alright, sure; but we ve also changed from the studio system of the 50s. Marvel with the MCU (and, Fox with X Men and DC with their attempts at catchup) are working on a new form of storytelling, one that sits somewhere at the nexus of film, television, comics, and those old serials from forever ago. • 21. Gothic Trope Deception In Caleb Williams Not only does Ann Radcliffe use the gothic trope deception and destruction William Godwin uses it as well throughout his novel Caleb Williams. However, Godwin uses deception through political systems and through the two main characters, Falkland and Caleb Williams. Falkland is an urban landowner and hires Caleb Williams to transcribe, arrange certain papers and partly write his dictation letters of business, as well as sketches of literary composition: he performed the functions of a librarian as well as secretary (Godwin 1.1.pg.5). Falkland is believed to be a well off and exceedingly appreciated landlord, who is passionately eager of keeping his appearance. For example on page 4 in volume one chapter one Caleb describes Falkland as a man of stature and he was kind and attentive. He is known to be an understanding businessperson but is vulnerable to uncharacteristic hysterics of convulsions which no one knows about except his servant, Collins. On the other hand, three months after Caleb started working for him he saw Falkland having one of these distempers: he heard the lid of a chest hastily slam and lock and heard a voice that seemed supernaturally tremendous. The sound of it thrilled Caleb s very vitals and saw Falkland rising up from the floor (Godwin 1.1 pg.7) because of this Caleb was very curious as to why his boss had this random outburst. Caleb later finds out this outburst is caused by his sensibility and how it is shrunk up and withered by events that are most disgustful to his feelings...his mind was incapable to survive the wound that his pride had sustained (Godwin 1.1. pg. 8). This makes Caleb even more interested in finding out about his boss because he now believes Falkland is being misleading and is hiding something he did in the past. Caleb examines his master s habits and history and finally comes to a conclusion that this apparently honorable character is a murderer. As soon as there is intensity in the house, Caleb is on the verge of opening a chest in his master s room, however, Falkland catches Caleb in the act. Once Falkland believes that Caleb knows he actually confesses and threatens Caleb with horrible retribution if he makes an effort to leave his duties. Falkland states: I ... Whether fate was decided and set in stone, or if considered more fluid and changing, fate influences a society. Even today, people will base choices on fate and leave decisions up to fate, whether to cease anxieties over a big life change, or deciding that it was faith that you found twenty dollars on the sidewalk and you deserve to splurge on ice cream. There are differences in the interpretation of cultural aspects in Greek and Roman literature. Greece and Rome both place heavy significance on fate, although, what defines fate is seemingly different in the Golden Ass when compared to the Iliad. In the Iliad, the characters appear to understand their predetermined fate as soldiers, then to the left our ready arms apply, / And live with glory, or with glory die (Homer 245), even though, individually, characters may ignore prophecies which ultimately predict their fate. In the Iliad, whether because of divine intervention or destiny, the characters have little impact on their own fate. In the Golden Ass, fate is never outright predetermined, and the characters individual actions matter. Although it may be alluded to, in stories like Lucius s, it is unknown how the story will end, until it has ended. In the Iliad, because of the prophecy, the reader knows Achilles will win the war for the Greeks, and according to Zeus s golden scale, Hector is doomed to die and cannot be saved. In the Iliad, the fate of Achilles is somewhat predestined to be a war hero. This prediction is lived out by Achilles, as he returns to the war and ultimately defeats the Trojans for Greece, and is declared a hero. Fate is seen as concrete, and unchanging. This is seen in most Greek literature, but in the Iliad, the entirety of the book is based on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The only way to fool an audience is to erase suspicion from their mind. For instance if the audience is suspect that you are acting than believability is already lost. I was able to pick up very small clues Miles used to evoke the character of Seymour. Miles would play with his glasses like Seymour would. He would also scratch his face and squint his eyes. Athletes who are serious about their game want to win at any cost and some do so using performance enhancing drugs. This ancient village, aging 9,000 years old, started to be excavated in 1990s (Marchant, 2009). There have been numerous remains discovered by archaeologists, including a large amount of houses and walls, a water well surrounded by stone baluster, a large number of human remains and plenty of artefacts made by stone, wood and bone (Holloway, 2014). One of the most exciting discoveries is some skeletons of women and children, which have been confirmed to be the earliest known cases of tuberculosis (Marchant, 2009). This settlement provides an excellent chance to study life in the Neolithic Age. Reasons of the subsidence of Atlit Yam are complicated. Basically, the erosion of saltwater, the tectonic effects and eustatic effects may all make contribution to the submergence of the village. • 40. Essay On Michael Faraday Research Paper Draft An expression states, Curiosity killed the cat. In the case of science, curiosity has helped figure out what exactly makes the world go around the sun and many other things that we could not live without knowing. Curiosity sparks an interest and is the reason for flying a kite in the middle of a lightning storm, it is the reason we have cars, computers and other machines. Throughout history, there are many famous scientists and chemists that have helped explain, and shape the world we live in, Michael Faradayis one of those people. He caused a big impact on the world through his beliefs, discoveries, and contributions to the scientific world. Michael Faraday was a Christian who let his religious beliefs lead him ... He got the chance to listen to four of Humphry Davy s (one of the most famous chemist of that time) lectures. Michael loved every moment of the lectures and was later, offered a job as a chemical assistant at the institution. Faraday got the chance to do experiments for the Royal Institution as well as creating some of his own. He gave his first lecture ever in 1816 on the properties of matter and published his first academic paper on the analysis of calcium hydroxide. In 1820, Michael submitted two papers to the Royal Institution. The first was about magnets and their electric current; he found that magnets exert a force on a wire carrying electric current. The second paper was on how to liquefy chlorine and isolate benzene, which has become a fundamental component of organic chemistry. In 1821, he was promoted to be the Superintendent of House and Laboratory of the Royal Institution and published his work on electromagnetic rotation, which contributed to the electric motor in the future. He found that liquid mercury was a good conductor of electricity and metal wires in the mercury will continue to rotate around a central magnet as long as there is an electric current flowing through the circuit. • 41. Injection Drug Users Lower Risk Of Transmitting Infectious... Needle Exchange Program Group 9 Austyn Bolander, Chelsea Dugger, Catherine Hoover, Chris Giles, Cassandra Brown, Skiveta Rivera Indiana University East School of Nursing Literature Review Several studies have shown that injection drug users lower their risk of transmitting infectious diseases when there is a needle exchange program available. There has not been a valid study of whether or not the amounts of time needles are returned to the exchange programs are harmful to communities. The Journal of Public Health, conducted surveys, evidence from needle exchange sites, jails, and institutions that needle exchange programs are effective in reducing illnesses such as HIV and AIDS (Burt Theide, 2016). Furthermore, Reepalu, Blome, Bjork, Widell, Bjorkman (2012), researched the same individuals for 20 years, with no breaks. Their studies concluded that injection drug use, not only heightens the risk for HIV and AID s, there is also an increase in Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C. However, there studies showed that there is not an increase rate of cancer diagnoses due to injection drug use. In a study conducted by Bonar and Rosenberg (2014), they wanted to see if self initiated harm strategies, such as: proper needle sterilization techniques, proper disposal of needles, and cleaning of the pre injected skin, could help improve the health of those that use drugs intravenously. Their study was conducted over an eight month period, results showed that their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Wit Movie Analysis Wit is a movie based on the point of view of an english professor, Dr. Vivian Bearing. She is awakened by the news that she has stage four ovarian cancer and agrees to immediately undergo treatment. While she struggles through rigorous chemotherapy and her final stages of ovarian cancer, the movie focuses on Bearing s reflections and flashbacks, as well as her interactions with her primary care providers. Bearing is an outstanding, hardworking and established educator, yet she has devoted her life to researching, understanding, and teaching so much that she has come under the impression of being a lonely and isolated individual. She keeps a distance between herself and those around her. For example, Professor Ashford, Bearing s mentor, once advised her to use her intelligence, avoid the library, and go out and enjoy herself with friends, yet she did the complete opposite (Woodward, J.M., 2001). This just proves that she internalizes herself. Not to mention, it is essential that patients have a support group, especially family, because it will help patients cope with stress and give them comfort, structure and dependency so that they are not alone (Caplan, 2017). Alternatively, Bearing rejects having support as she expresses: I am not in isolation because I have cancer, because I have a tumor the size of a grapefruit. No. I am in isolation because I am being treated for cancer (Edson, 1999). Since her cancer treatments imperiled her health, she is more susceptible to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 45. The Theory Of The Firm Essay Knowledge Resources in the Theory of the Firm Proponents of the knowledge based theory of the firm point out that this one sided concentration on incentive conflicts in the economics of organizational literature overlooks the production side of the firm. Langlois and Foss, for example, argue that the literature has unreflectively relied on a dichotomy between productive aspects and exchange aspects of the firm, that is, on a dichotomy between production costs and exchange costs. In analyzing exchange costs the literature recognizes that exchange itself is not costless, but involves transaction costs from imperfect knowledge and opportunism. But in analyzing production costs, there has been an embedded agreement that price theory tells us all we need to know about production. As Langlois and Foss point out, however, it is very likely that knowledge about how to produce is imperfect and that knowledge about how to link together one person s (or organization s) productive knowledge with that of another is imperfect. These twin issues of capabilities and coordination are discrete from the hazards of astringent that other traditional beliefs have focused on. Both knowledge resources and (imperfect) production costs can be said to vary depending on the attributes of a production process, in the same way that transaction costs differ depending on the asset attributes of investment projects. Thus, instead of holding technology constant across alternative modes of organization as a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. What Is The Theme Of The River By James W. Brown Analytical essay on The river by James W. Brown Raising a child can be done in various ways. Of course it depends on which gender your child is, but overall it is pretty much the same. The best way to raise a child is to make sure that they respect things around them. That they cannot go around behaving, as they want too. But, men have a thing that they always want to learn their boys. Manhood. Manhood is something a boy needs. Manhood is the thing that separates the boys from the men. It can be taught in many ways and some men take their boys on survival trips. This is what a father does with his young boy in the short story The river by James W. Brown written in 2009. In the short story The river we hear about a father and a son on a trip. The father wants to teach the son how to cross a strong river. Trying to make a manout of him. While trying to teach his son, he makes some mistakes and it will make him pay a great price. The short story The river takes place in a few places. We first hear about the father and his son sitting in a car on the way, on their trip. Later we hear about them in the forest, of some kind, while the father explains to his son how to get over the river. Rather than criticising our federal system, we should be working to make better use of its advantages
in order to improve our prosperity. In particular, the reform of the allocation of powers and responsibilities between the Commonwealth and the States, and reform of fiscal federalism, are desperately needed. (Twomey and Withers, 2007) Twomey and Withers argue the approach of strategic pragmatism as outlined in Wanna s paper. The basis of their position is that the federalism structure is unlikely to be subject to major redesign and the discussion should focus on improving current operation.
