Analysis Of Literary Analysis In Ulysses By Lord Alfred...
Literature and poetry in particular have the potential to make profound impressions
on their readers. In the poem Ulysses by Lord Alfred Tennyson, the speaker Ulysses
argues for his mariners to come back out to sea. Karen Prior s article How Reading
Makes Us More Human argues how reading makes one more human. On the other
hand, Tennyson makes his argument through Ulysses, as he talks to his mariners
while Prior makes her argument to teachers of higher of education. While Tennyson
and Prior both use rhetorical situations to persuade their audiences, Prior connects
to her audience better by citing compelling and exhaustive research, eliciting
sympathy from her audience through her narrative voice, and establishing her
credibility by using personal examples and research. Prior s uses captivating
evidence in her article in order to persuade the audience that reading makes one
more human. For example, Prior takes research from psychologists from York
University and University of Toronto which states [people] who read fiction appear
to be better able to understand other people, empathize with them and view the
world from their perspective (para. 2). With the use of notable research, the reader
starts to question if reading does make one more human. Prior then goes on to use
research done by the director of the Center for Reading and Language Research. The
director Maryanne Wolf states, the fragility of the brain s ability to read with the kind
of sustained attention that
Persuasive Essay About Surfing
Surfing is a sport that has been around since the early 1900 s. More and more
people are falling in love with the sport each and every day. It can be one of the
most innovative ways to express an individual s creativity. The two main aspects that
people find most enjoyable within the sport are competitive and recreational aspects.
Although these two aspects may be completely different, they both can bring out the
same joy and love for the sport.
Competition aspect
Like every other sport, there will always be a sense of competitiveness to surfing.
This is why some people love surfing so much. Whether you re competing at a local
level or all the way up to a global level, the feeling of intensity and pressure will
always remain to be present. Also, surfing is an individual s sport; meaning every
maneuver and turn reflects solely on you, and you alone. This not only kicks the
intensity up a notch, as well as increases everyone s determination and drives to
perfect everything they do. Even the slightest mistake can cost you a loss in ... Show

Once you have improved your skills enough through recreational surfing, then you
can move on to competitive surfing. Recreational surfing allows more freedom and
creativity within the sport. Without the rules or the consequence of failing, you are
free to try any maneuver at any time. It is often much easier to have fun with
surfing without the pressures of a competitive aspect. Some might say recreational
surfing is a way that you can truly express yourself as well as provide an
opportunity to explore not only yourself, but the world. It can bring you to places
that have been untouched by anyone else in the surfing world, allowing you to
bring it to life. This can also allow some people to further progress within the sport
much faster and fall even more in love with it. This kind of environment attracts
people that are more easy going and are interested in doing some
Motivation Observation
How is a community formed? I have attended many churches and it can be difficult
at times to be included as the rest of the congregation already has latent knowledge
about each other which puts you on the outside. It can be difficult traversing the
multitude of societal rules in order to become part of the community. Although the
early church was encouraged to continue to meet together as, Let us not give up
meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one
another and all the more as you see the Day approaching (New International
Version 2011, Hebrews 10:25). However, it can be difficult to make those personal
and deeper connections in order for members of the church to encourage one another.
Over a period of seven weeks spanning the months of August to October, I undertook
an ethnographic study of the evening meal called dinner which took place before the
Eventide service at St. Elphaba s of the Vale. My ethnographic research was
completed using the participant observationmethod during a Sunday evening from 6
6.30pm. By using this specific methodology I was able to engage in all the rituals
involved with participating in the meal as well as observe the interactions of my
informants around me. Each week I primarily studied one specific aspect of the
meal service ritual, therefore, I have decided to write one account which is a
combination of all of my weeks of participant observation. The primary theories
which I will be using to interpret my observations are Bronislaw Malinowski and
Marcel Mauss theories of exchange, specifically concerning the Kula ring as well as
Emilie Durkheim s theory of the sacred profane dichotomy.
St Elphaba s is situated in the Hills district of Sydney, Australia where the median
total income of an individual, excluding Government pensions and allowances, for
2015 was $53,238 which is significantly higher than the Australian average of
$44,854 (The Hills Shire (A): Region Data Summary 2017). This was reflected in the
socio economic positions of the members of the congregation. In the course of
conversation with many of my informants, they volunteered their jobs which
included doctors, lawyers, builders or some who owned their own successful
Customer Service Essay
Customer Service
Customer service consists of the various ways in which a business looks after its
customer. A business that wants to provide a comprehensive high quality customer
service must be aware of, and be able to analyse, customer needs, and also to set up
systems to ensure that those needs are catered for from the first enquiry to after sale
service. Customer service consists of a wide range of activities. The purpose of these
is to make sure that customers are happy and will return again and again. Every
business should remember that customers are the factors, which affect demand for

Sainsbury s was founded by John James and Mary Ann Sainsbury in 1869, they
first launched their first Sainsbury store in Dury Lane as a small dairy store, it
quickly became popular because the economic wealth in the area was at an all time

As the stores success grew so did the branches open up on higher class high streets

Types of Customer
Lordly Customers Lordly customers like to be treated as special and important.
How they are treated is often just as important to them as what they are buying.
They are impatient. They will refuse to wait in lines or queues, even if it means not
buying what they want. Their time is valuable. If they have questions they want
them answered right away. They are status conscious and like to be seen as
powerful and up to the minute. They do little research before they buy and often buy
on impulse. They treat staff as just there to serve them and have little interest in
staffs feelings or problems. They are not afraid to complain and can do so

And even though the Indians were much less advanced in technology and warfare, the
American frontier men found a major obstacle in the Shawnee leader, Tecumseh.
Tecumseh wielded more power than any other North American Indian before him,
and no other Indian after him would ever come close to his political domination. His
power was not a military power, directly threatening the United States, but rather the
potential to unite a large confederation of Indian tribes to resist against the westward
growing nation. Tecumseh was a major obstruction in the American westward
movement because not only did he attempt to establish a vast Indian Confederation,
which could have stopped the push westward to the Pacific, but also because he
became allies with the British in the War of 1812, which was also a core barrier in
the American obtaining of frontier lands.
Tecumseh was born in 1768, and was the son of Puckeshinwau, a chief of the
Kispapocoke or Kiskopoke clan and Methoataske, whom belonged to the Creek tribe.
Tecumseh s early life was full of mixed feelings towards the Americans.
Puckeshinwau was usually friendly with the Americans; Thus, Tecumseh learned to
act peaceful towards the new white settlers. However, when Puckeshinwau died at the
hands of Americans, his view of the European colonists changed dramatically. After
his father s death, it is unclear who raised the young Shawnee, whether his brother,
his mother, or Blackfish, another chief.

Minister s Black Veil
Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God and The Minister s Black Veil are two
engaging literary pieces that have many similarities along with a few differences. The
themes of sin and repentance are strong in both works, but when those broad themes
are broken down, the contrasting ideas can be seen. Jonathan Edwards, author of
Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God, delivers his message by using harsh language
and fear inducing tactics. Nathaniel Hawthornedevelops his theme by employing a
parable, a more subtle strategy. Hawthorne s style is more effective due to the way
he draws the reader in with an interesting story and does not make him/her feel like
they are being put down. The stories have both similarities and differences in their
themes, but the style is a very important aspect of literature as well, and Hawthorne
overpowers Edwards in that area.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In The Minister s Black Veil, Mr. Hooper says, I look around me, and lo! On every
visage a black veil (Hawthorne 113). The black veil represents sin, particularly
secret sin that people keep to themselves. Mr. Hooper is saying that everyone is
guilty of sin, but most are too ashamed to actually wear a black veil. Edwards
discusses sin and guilt in his sermon as well, Your wickedness makes you as it were
heavy as lead...your guilt in the meantime is constantly increasing (24). Edwards is
describing how the sin weighs heavy on a person, and that every day one does not
repent, their guilt builds up. The topics of guilt and sin can be seen throughout the

Fourth Amendment Rights Essay
Fourth Amendment Paper Assignment Today, I am presented with a case that puts in
question the violation of individual s Fourth Amendment rights. This case also puts
in question the rights of the authority placed in our streets, neighborhoods and towns
to perform actions directed towards certain citizens in an effort to serve and protect
the overall population. There must be a careful analysis in order to interpret the
records of the incident that occurred to conclude who holds the most justified
position in this case under the applicable laws. The Court of Appeals of the State of
New York must also take into careful consideration the circumstances discussed and
the ruling given by the District Court assigned to this case, which I... Show more

Defendant Miller evidently avoided walking by the officers. There are precise rules
that involve the stopping of an individual by the authority. The Fourth Amendment
states that the right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and
effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated... . Specific
distinctions within the Amendment are made in the prior case of Terry v. Ohio(392
U.S. 1 [1968]). These distinctions discuss the rules and regulations adherent to stops
of individuals by the authority. According to Justice Warren, delivering the opinion of
the court in this case, the police should be allowed to stop a person and detaining him
briefly for questioning upon suspicion that the individual may be connected with
criminal activity . This statement basically explains that unusual conduct of an
individual observed by the authorities can give reasonable suspicion that criminal
activity may be afoot. This reasonable suspicion is grounds for a stop and brief
questioning by the authorities. So, accordingly following these sets of rules, I must
analyze how the law applies to reach a decision in favor, or in opposition to the stop
of an individual. Defendant Miller clearly showed unusual conduct while walking in
the street. He walked in one direction, looked toward the direction of the cops, and
more profoundly made eye contact with one

It was a normal girls night for Mabel, Grenda, and Candy. Age inappropriate

sleepover games...any preteen girl s dream. And Dipper s worst nightmare. All
Mabel had to do to get Dipper to get far, far away from their room was even so
much as think about having a girls night. After the traumatic experience he d had
attending one in Mabel s body, he couldn t even stand to witness them anymore.
They always had to rock paper scissors to see who got their room and who had to
sleep in the living room. Dipper somehow always lost. Hehe. Maybe don t throw
paper every time... This particular night, the girls were indulging in a late night
sing along viewing of Community College Melody 3 (which they unfortunately
had to view on a minuscule screened $50 tablet Candy owned with Netflix on it,
since y know, Dipper was in the living room) when they sadly realized about
halfway through the movie they were out of popcorn. Candy, can you go pop
another bag? Mabel asked. I did it last time! Candy half jokingly argued. And I
really like this scene between Justin and Bella. We can pause it. Grenda stated,
pressing pause on the little tablet. Pleeeease? Candy sighed. I wouldn t for just
anybody. Thanks, Candy! You re the best! Mabel praised as Candy got off the bed
and left the room. Yeah, yeah. I m way too easily conned... Candy muttered to herself

The Correlation between Crime and Poverty Essay
A violent crime occurs every 23.5 seconds in the United States of America. Even
though crime has been at a low during the past decade, violence is still prevalent in
today s society. Most of these crimes happen in places that are socio economically
disadvantaged. There then is the debate of whether violent crimeis associated with
environments struck with poverty. There is a correlation between violent crimes and
poverty because of the unemployment rates in major cities, the culture of poor areas,
and drugs.
There are three components that must be looked at before carrying on. They are:
poverty, social inequality, and relative depravation. Poverty is defined according to
an economic standard. The income deemed necessary to meet basic ... Show more

These cities are also among the list of cities with the highest rates of unemployment.
Los Angeles: 9.2 %, Chicago: 9.1%, New York: 7.9%, to name a few (Statistics).
Why would anyone follow the right way if you see your parents did so and are
still jobless? This is a problem all over the world evident by demonstrations such as
the Occupy movement, the Brazil protests, the protests in Greece, etc. These
protestors are still voters and this causes a divide in a nation, hence the escalated
instability and violence. Another big contributor is that of discrimination. If the
majority of the poor in the US are black and brown, and poverty leads to crime, then
most of the criminals will be black and brown. This is the case wherever the
criminals are the poor ones.
It can be argued that the right way is to get an education. Some say education leads
to a more civilized person and in turn the violence is reduced. A free education
does not guarantee that a child will go on to go to college. Some personally do not
like the idea of any post secondary schooling. Others can say that the majority of
black and brown criminals suggest problems within the social structures of those
certain ethnic groups. This association with an ethnic group is worse when the word
criminal implies a moral value. The mass incarceration tactics targets the black and
brown population of the US and that is a huge issue.
For many living in these
Jekyll And Mr Hyde Description
Descriptions Good and evil has been in our world for countless years. Numerous
books have been written about this theme. In Robert Louis Stevenson s mystery
novella, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, the author uses physical descriptions of Jekyll

Jekyll, Lanyon, and Utterson are at a dinner party, when Utterson looks over at

Melon should make a one time upfront payment to lease the parcel of land for the
expected 20 year life of the project.
Bob thought the amount retailers in the shopping center would be willing to pay
per square meter of floor space would be a decreasing function of the total size of
the shopping center. Bob did some initial work estimating the likely relationship
between what tenants would be willing to pay for retail space and the size of the
shopping center. Specifically, he thought there was a 50% chance the true
relationship would be: r = 60 0.001s and a 50% chance that the true relationship
would be r = 50 0.001s where r is the rental rate per square meter of floor space and
s is the total size of the shopping center in square meters. Furthermore, Bob was
going to assume that once the shopping center had been built, the realized
relationship between r and s would remain unchanged for the next 20 years.
Bob was planning to ignore discount rates and the time value of money in his initial
evaluation of the project. He was going to treat all of the project s costs and benefits

Identity The identity can be defined in some ways as a close similarity, affinity or
having a strong links with your family and others. The society tends to judge us

In the novel A Princess of Mars, I will be responding to Burroughs s
characterization of the green Martians in the novel A Princess of Mars which caught
my interest for some reason. John Carter; the hero in this story, first meets these

transported there from the cave. The green Martians are fifteen feet tall and have six
legs; two arms and two legs. John Carter calls them, hideous little monsters (15).

How Mayans Intertwine With Astronomy
Are we Alone? the history of astronomy has shaped the course of human society,
connecting science with human spirituality and sense of wonder at the unimaginable
vastness of the cosmos . (Shuttleworth). Astronomy is the branch of science that deals
with celestial objects, space, and the physical universe. Ancient astronomers
attempted to explain religionrather than explain natural phenomenon. Religion can
be defined as a belief in, or an acknowledgement of some superhuman power or
powers (ex. a god or gods) which is typically manifested in obedience, reverence,
and worship; such a belief as part of a system defining a code of living, esp. as a
means of achieving spiritual or material improvement. Religion, in the early times,

The Influences Of Political Socialization
What single factor do you think had the strongest influence on your political

Seeing my parents struggle to put food on the table was difficult to witness. As a

an immigrant. Yes rent is cheap, but not being able to leave your house without the

Pauline Epistles Influence On Christianity
Possibly Paul s most significant mark on Christianity, his authorship of the Pauline
Epistles which influenced the first stages of the international development of
Christianity. The Pauline Epistles were a series of letters written by Paul, not only
giving guidance to early Christians, but most importantly, permanently clarifying the
Soteriology of Christianity. Paul s most important series of letters is considered to
specifically be the Epistleto the Romans (https://www.blueletterbible.org 2015). In
writing this, Paul summarises the core beliefs of Christianity, explaining the belief of
Jesus Christ and the resurrection in a few short sentences. (Romans 1:3 5). Further
on, Paul writes about the Power of the Gospel (Romans 1:16), the Guild of

message to his fellow brethrens, reminding them of the importance of the death and
resurrection of Christ, as well as mentioning his conversion experience. These are all
quintessential examples of Paul s personal effect on Christianity s spread and

Bc 820 Internship Report
BDC 820: Internship Essay My original plan for an internship was to go after a
production company that was creating non fiction film and television. But when
discovering Blue Ant Media and their rise to prominence in the Canadian industry it
was an opportunity worth looking into. Blue Ant Media became appealing to me
because it not only was a content creator in multiple platforms but it also was a
distributor of its own content and broadcasted from there location in Toronto. I
applied to the internshipthrough the Blue Ant Media website and heard back within
a week for a phone interview. The phone interview was in depth and gave the team
an idea of I was and what kind of worker they were taking on. When pursuing this

We received our own desk with papers, post its and file folders for us to use while
at the internship. From our own mugs to a personalized tour of the building, I was
immersed in the Blue Ant Media way of work and execution. When my managers
Carl and Zoe described my work duties while at this internship I was very excited
but I was also told at times could be boring. What was taught to us early on at my
internship was regardless of how menial the work could become at times, all the
work on all levels was important to a shows completion. From the Digital Media
content to TV content we have to make sure that all work is done to the best of our
ability. I had worked one internship before at Bell Media and the impression I had
from internships was that sadly the intern used where majority of people at the
company did not want to work or go. This was not the case at Blue Ant Media. Our
involvement as interns is made to feel as important as the Producer who is actively
working on the productions of their shows. As interns we not only helped in the
development stages of many new shows, but also helped to complete necessary files
for distribution. Interns were also mainly in charge of what we call BAM
Deliverables which included documents like Episode Summaries, Texted Elements
and Lower Thirds etc. All documents that help a show prepare for green lit to be

Impact of Globalization on Sme with Respect to Tanzanian...
1.0. INTRODUCTION
Looking back, the next generation s economists may be puzzled by the structure
of the world economy in 1995. Today, developing countries (DCs) and the former
Soviet bloc account for about one half of world output and the rich industrialized
countries for the other. But this picture is likely to change rapidly over the next 25
years: At current growth rates, the rich world s share of global output could shrink
to less than two fifths by 2020. Although the absolute magnitudes are uncertain, it is
safe to assume that there will be an enormous shift of economic power from today s
rich countries to what are still labeled DCs, and especially to Asian DCs This shift is
the likely result of the ongoing globalization of economic ... Show more content on

As transaction and communication costs fall, the proximity between sellers and
buyers, which has traditionally been considered to be essential for many services,
figures less prominently. Most important in this regard is that financial capital has
gone global. Nowadays, the financial centres of the world economy provide the
possibility for 24 hour trading in all sorts of financial assets. The deregulation of other
business services such as banking and insurance also offers new opportunities for the
tradability of services. Hence, standardized business services have become available
around the world, which, in turn, has made the international fragmentation of
production feasible. As a consequence of all this, not only the constraints on firms,
but also on governments have completely changed.
Globalization shapes the world economy in different ways. Most obviously,
international trade and capital flows are affected. Over the last 30 years or so,
international trade has grown faster on average than production, implying a more
integrated world economy. Closer integration brings about opportunities for
specialization, and hence increases interdependencies. This is highlighted by changes
in the structure of world trade. For example, international sourcing, i.e. the purchase
of intermediate inputs from foreign sources, has grown faster than domestic sourcing
and now accounts for about half of all imports by major countries [OECD 19946d];
intra industry trade has
Video Games Effect on People
Video games are almost always present in any house that is home to an adolescent
child. While video games are popular among people of all ages, adolescent children
are usually the most involved. An article was developed by three members of the
Psychopathology department at a university in the Netherlands. While addressing the
use of video games the statement was made that Today, in the United States, 91% of
children between the ages of 2 and 17 playvideo games (Granic, Lobel, Engels).
Children may spend countless hours sitting in from of a television screen,
participating in the electronic activities. While there are many different genres of
video games, perhaps among the most popular are those that contain a high level of
violence and hostility. Along with the violent content and commentary, these
videogames create a hostile mindset. Video games have the ability to cause negative
effects in the way young people think and act socially. In support of the belief that
video games benefit people intellectually, there is a claim that gameplay provides
cognitive, motivational, emotional, and social benefits (Granic, Lobel, Engels). In
partial response, video games cannot offer cognitive benefits because they do not
offer real life lessons. Yes, game play may allow someone to gain knowledge that will
later be applied to the video game, but there are no positive real world techniques to
be obtained. Playing video games will not increase and individuals motivational
The Mood For Love, Urban Space, And Post Modernity
In The Mood For Love, Urban Space, and Post Modernity Wong Kar Wai s Fa
Yeung Nin Wa (2000), translated to In The Mood For Love, is an opening to the
new millennium and homage to past genres of filmmaking. Deeply rooted in emotion
and nostalgia, In The Mood For Love reads as a waltz throughout the entirety of the
film. Set in 1962 Hong Kong, journalist Chow Mo wan moves to the city with his
wife, who is often away on business. He befriends a woman who lives in his
apartment complex, Su Li Zhen (referred to Ms. Chan in the film) who mirrors his
loneliness and marital strife. Ironically, Ms. Chan s husband is also often away from
business, and both realize their partners are having an affair with their respective
spouses.
Su and Chow begin a fantasy relationship with one another, pretending to be each
other s spouse reenacting how their partners could have gotten together. The
protagonists constantly push each other s boundaries of propriety; their combined
desire for affection is an extension of the abandonment they feel from their spouses.
Simultaneously a simulacrum of love and a reflection of genuine yearning, they
imitate a relationship and inevitably fall for one another, but fear that they ll stoop to
the infidelity of their partners. Wong Kar Wai s film is a statement about individual
realities and how people reflect on an unattainable past, as well as an exploration of
physical and emotional confinement that accompany abandonment. In The Mood For

during the 11 years since the collapse of the former Soviet Union was no small feat
(see Exhibits 1 and 2). To be successful in these turbulent times was nothing short of
amazing to industry observers. In 2002, Ice Fili, a midsized Russian company with
more than $25 million in sales, was Russia s top ice cream producer. Surprisingly, it

and Europe (reminiscent of whipped cream). Also, traditional Russian ice cream
was made with all natural ingredients and did not contain preservatives. It was
believed that Russian consumers were generally more concerned about
preservatives in food than fat levels. According to an industry trade association
representative, Millions of foreigners, after arriving in Moscow and tasting our ice
cream, have proclaimed Russian ice cream to be the best in the world. 7 In the
selling of ice cream, many products competed for the consumer dollar, including
beer (Baltica and dozens of other domestic brands), soda (primarily Pepsi and
Coke), yogurts, chocolate (Mars, NestlГ©, and numerous domestic players such as
Red October), and other confectionary candies. The producers of these products
often spent considerably more on advertising than ice cream producers.8 In 2001,
ice cream producers spent less than $5 million on advertising in Russia (1% of
sales), while the $4.5 billion Russian beer market spent approximately $90 million
(2% of sales) and the soft drink industry spent almost $200 million (7% of sales) on
advertising.9 The beer, soft drink, and confectionary industries enjoyed increasing
market demand rather than the depressed trend found in the Russian ice cream
industry. In 2000, the production of ice cream was down 3.5% from the year before; in

It is worth mentioning that BIRADS readings have been found to correlate better
with volumetric rather than area estimation methods despite the fact that visual
assessment is done from a 2D projection of a mammogram, with suggestions that
probably radiologists assessment of breast density from a 2D projection image is
different from that of a software and the radiologist assesses the two views in a semi
volumetric fashion.73This is also probably the reason why density reporting by
radiologists in two view screening shows less variability than one view screening.
In addition BIRADS is a categorical scale and so has limitations to its application
due to its coarseness. For example it cannot be used where monitoring of small
incremental changes in breast density is desired. Using visual BIRADS is also labor
intensive and so needs to be assessed with regard to availability of scarce and
valuable radiologist time especially in the context of a limited resource low and
middle income country (LMIC) like Nigeria.
Despite their limitations, BI RADS density assessment has shown strong relationship

The Life of Nicholas Tesla
Nikola Tesla (Nicholas Tesla) was not only an inventor; he was an engineer,
physicist, visionary, and most known for, brilliant. Tesla was born July 10th 1856,
in Smilijan, Austrian Empire, which is now modern day Croatia and moved to the
United States in 1884 to continue his career in engineering. Tesla s parents were
both Serbian, his father was an Orthodox priest, writer and poet, while his mother
was a creative and had the talent to construct things, especially her electronic every
day household items. His father wanted him to become a priest but Tesla followed
the mind set and footsteps of his mother and went above and beyond with his skills
and knowledge. Like normal high school students, Tesla studied mathematics and
physics at the University of Prague. What made Tesla stand out from other students
was his incredible mind and memory. He supposedly had an eidetic memory
(photographic memory), where he would have the ability to recall problems and
text with ease, like reading a book and replaying a scene through the mind. Not only
was his memory extraordinary, he contained the ability to perform calculus
integration in his head, as well as learning eight different languages. Tesla s brain
contained abilities out of this world that modern day technology cannot replicate.
The ideas and creations visualized in his head, stayed in his head; he formed its
mechanics and mathematical specifications without the use of a pencil and paper.

Effects Of Smoking Essay
Harmful Effects Of Smoking
Smoking isn t good for one s body. Especially if you ve been smoking a pack a day,
and for a long period of time. But what is the full extent of the effects of smoking on
your body?
The effects of smoking varies from person to person as it will depend on the person
s vulnerability to the chemical in cigarette or tobacco smoke. It will also depend on
the number of cigarette sticks a person smokes per day, the age when the person first
started to smoke, and the number of years the person has been smoking.
According to recent studies, every year hundreds of thousands of people all over the
globe die from medical complications caused by smoking. Aside from the stench it

Smoking is one of the biggest single causes of preventable disease and premature
death in a large number of mainly developed countries around the world. In the UK
around 120,000 people die each year from smoking related diseases. 50% of long
term smokers die prematurely from smoking, a large number of them when they
reach middle age.
Globally around 2.5 million people die each year from smoking and it has been
estimated that some time during the 2020 s the number of deaths caused by smoking
will hit the 10 million mark.
The majority of people who die from smoking will have suffered from one of three
main diseases: lung cancer, coronary heart disease or chronic obstructive pulmonary
disease (COPD).
Around 90% of all lung cancer deaths are caused from smoking and smoking is also
the biggest risk factor for a number of other types of cancer as well. Overall, smoking
has been linked to a third of all deaths from cancer. In the US, 1 in every 4 people die
of cancer and over half a million people die each year from this disease. To give you
a clearer idea, more than 1,500 people a day die from cancer.
People who smoke a lot of cigarettes a day are particularly at risk of developing
cancer and if those people have been smoking for a long time, the risk is even higher.
For example, a person who has been smoking one packet of cigarettes a day for 30
years is more at risk than a person who has been smoking
Toilet Training Research Paper
Toilet Training for Individuals with Disabilities
Being toilet trained is an extremely necessary skill to make it through our day to
day lives. It is something that seems so natural to us that we have forgotten that at
one point in our lives we did not have this skill. Someone had to teach it to us.
Unfortunately there is a large population of people with disabilities that have not
mastered this skill and require the constant aid of others to go to the bathroom.
Being independent in the bathroom is a major skill that can affect a child s entire
outlook on their lives. While being toilet trained may not seem like a big deal, having
to constantly rely on someone else to do every movement necessary to use the
bathroom can become extremely frustrating ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

There have been many studies conducted on the effects of using this model and
modified versions of this model to teach children with developmental disabilities to be
toilet trained. However as stated in the previous literature there are not many studies
on the prerequisite skills needed to engage in going to the bathroom or the
effectiveness of these interventions with children diagnosed with autism. Further
research is needed in this subject. My research question for this topic is to see if
combining Azrin and Foxx (1971, 1974) intensive toilet training model with teaching
the prerequisite skills for using the bathroom (i.e., unbuttoning pants, pulling up and
down pants and underwear, etc.) would be effective in teaching a child with autism to

Aristotle made clear that all humans seek to flourish. Well, Volkswagen, as a

pronounced that man is a rational creature who lives in poleis and what make

The Aristotelian ethics seeks Eudaimonia or what is call happiness. This is the goal

Broadcasting Decision Rtc Case Summary
Case Summary of Broadcasting Decision CRTC 2004 271
Founded in 1996, Genex Communications, Inc. is a Quebec City based private
broadcasting group with interests in the sports, radio, web property, and indoor
advertising industries (Bloomberg, 2017). From 1997 to 2004, the company
owned CHOI FM QuГ©bec, Quebec City s most popular radio station (Ha, 2004).
After its first license to operate CHOI FM concluded in August 2001, Genex was
questioned by the CRTC over its failure to honour conditions of the license, such as
keeping logger tapes and meeting the quota for French language music. A high
volume of public complaints (47 from 1997 to 2001) also led the CRTC to establish
that CHOI FM aired abusive comment, offensive on air contests, personal ... Show

Genex was also fully aware of the potential consequences of ignoring its license

quadrupled. Abusive content on CHOI FM violated both the law and the
conditions of Genex s license, and it was not an honest mistake; instead it reflected
a pattern of behaviour ... that continued and grew even worse over ... two

hosts, Fillion and AndrГ© Arthur; instead, it gave them even bigger roles. Genex

their legal responsibility for the actions of CHOI FM participants. The CRTC
decided that giving Genex a legal order to follow the Radio Regulations, or
temporarily suspending its license to operate CHOI FM, would not be good
solutions because Genex showed no sign of realizing its mistakes and duties or
making real changes in the future. For all of these reasons, the CRTC decided not to
renew Genex s license at all, and the company lost all rights to

Who wears the pants in their relationship? someone may ask about a couple. In the
short story By the River by Jack Hodgins, Jim Styan is definitely the one wearing

life. In essence, Jim is the King of the jungle, or more appropriately put, he is the
King of the Canadian wilderness. The balance of power in some relationships isn t
always an even fifty fifty split. Sometimes, one of the partners has most, if not

Analysis Of Mexican Whiteboy
Book Summary:
Mexican Whiteboy is a contemporary story that takes place in National City,
California, part of the San Diego metropolitan area. The main characters in the
story are sixteen year old Danny and Uno, who are both biracial; Danny s mother
is white and his father is Mexican, and Uno s mother is Mexican and his father is
African American. Over the summer, Danny and Uno find that they have a lot in
common and even though they both go through similar hardships in life, each
reveals contrasting ways of meeting a problem. Uno tries to overcome his obstacles
with courage and boldness, whereas Danny habitually digs into his wrist until it
bleeds. Danny is also an incredibly talented pitcher who could be signed by a college
recruiter. However, he always shuts down and loses concentration when he is on the
mound. His uneven pitching is a metaphor for his internal struggles. Over time,
Danny s summer experiences help him to believe in himself and find his pitch: his
focus.
Connections
Mexican Whiteboy s theme is developed through the main character s growth. Over
time, Danny learns the way to overcome his obstacles and how to move forward
despite the drawbacks in his life. The author uses Uno and Danny to teach the
reader a life lesson. Over the summer Uno guides Danny to learn the way to
overcome his hurdles and how to progress despite drawbacks: to believe in himself.

Analysis Of Dave Barry s Guys Vs.
A short essay Guys vs. Men written by Dave Barry, presents Dave s perception on
the difference between Guys and Men . Dave presents his essay in a comical way
that generalizes the men vs. guys and also gender biased generalization. Dave argues
that men hold too much of responsibilities and many expectations in which guys do
not and they live happier life. One of the methods he uses to support his argument is
a comparison. Other method he uses is the description of how he views men vs. guys
and gives his perspective. And the last method he uses to further his argument is the
use of hyperbole, exaggerationthrough out the essay.
First method of development Dave uses to further his argument is a comparision and
gender biased generalization. His temptation to buy new and unnecessary things just
because he is a guy can be compared when he compares females urge to rearrange
furniture with males urge of using newest and latest technical equipments. Dave
separates guys and women by giving their choice that is somewhat statistically true,
that women are more interested in decorating house oppose to buying latest version
of technical items. Dave s use of logos play significant role here to support his
argument. Not only he compares guys and women, but also guys with his auxiliary
dog. (919). He compares that guys do not follow rules even though they know they
are not suppose to do things they do, just like his small auxiliary backup dog. Dave
is saying that his
Southern Gothic Literature Analysis
Southern gothic literature is a genre that is set in the American south. Oxford
Dictionaries defines southern gothic literature as, Characterized by plots involving
violence or hidden trauma, eccentric and often psychologically troubled characters,
and an atmosphere of repression and decay. The genre is one of dark, complex
stories that are full of grotesque themes, unpredictable twists, and often include
characters that are somewhat delusional. It is often packed with mystery and
intrigue, and like many of the characters in these stories, it is not always what
meets the eye. Throughout this paper, we ll be exploring some stories of this
genre such as A Good Man is Hard to Find and Good Country People , both by
Flannery O Connor, as well as William Faulkner s A Rose for Emily . Each one of
these stories share similar elements when it comes to their settings, themes, tones, and
characters, but they are also each different in their own respects. These stories each
include a female character who is first thought to represent the image of a proper,
southern woman, but later is shown to be much more than that. Miss Emily, the
Grandmother, and Joy Hulga each challenge the common stereotypes of the lives of
southern women and the values and beliefs of the South as a whole. Southern gothic
literature is an extremely interesting genre to study, and there is certainly nothing
about these stories that is dull.
William Faulkner s A Rose for Emily is a great example of a true

There may be times when we are powerless to prevent injustice, but there must
never be a time when we fail to protest Elie Wiesel once said about activism.
Activism is the fight against the things we don t like or want in our lives today or it
could be something that we are fighting for that the government doesn t think it is
necessary. Activism brings out protests about political or social change that people
want and are fighting for. Naomi Kleinis a social activist who has wrote books to

aftermath of 9/11 and Klein s portraits of street protests, repressive police tactics are

always engrossing and colorful (Higgs). Klein writes:
The security forces used the actions of a few rock throwers... to do what they had
been trying to do from the start: clear the city of thousands of lawful protesters
because it was more convenient that way. Once they got their provocation , they
filled entire neighborhoods with tear gas... People giving the peace sing to police

  • 2. Analysis Of Literary Analysis In Ulysses By Lord Alfred... Literature and poetry in particular have the potential to make profound impressions on their readers. In the poem Ulysses by Lord Alfred Tennyson, the speaker Ulysses argues for his mariners to come back out to sea. Karen Prior s article How Reading Makes Us More Human argues how reading makes one more human. On the other hand, Tennyson makes his argument through Ulysses, as he talks to his mariners while Prior makes her argument to teachers of higher of education. While Tennyson and Prior both use rhetorical situations to persuade their audiences, Prior connects to her audience better by citing compelling and exhaustive research, eliciting sympathy from her audience through her narrative voice, and establishing her credibility by using personal examples and research. Prior s uses captivating evidence in her article in order to persuade the audience that reading makes one more human. For example, Prior takes research from psychologists from York University and University of Toronto which states [people] who read fiction appear to be better able to understand other people, empathize with them and view the world from their perspective (para. 2). With the use of notable research, the reader starts to question if reading does make one more human. Prior then goes on to use research done by the director of the Center for Reading and Language Research. The director Maryanne Wolf states, the fragility of the brain s ability to read with the kind of sustained attention that
  • 3. Persuasive Essay About Surfing Surfing is a sport that has been around since the early 1900 s. More and more people are falling in love with the sport each and every day. It can be one of the most innovative ways to express an individual s creativity. The two main aspects that people find most enjoyable within the sport are competitive and recreational aspects. Although these two aspects may be completely different, they both can bring out the same joy and love for the sport. Competition aspect Like every other sport, there will always be a sense of competitiveness to surfing. This is why some people love surfing so much. Whether you re competing at a local level or all the way up to a global level, the feeling of intensity and pressure will always remain to be present. Also, surfing is an individual s sport; meaning every maneuver and turn reflects solely on you, and you alone. This not only kicks the intensity up a notch, as well as increases everyone s determination and drives to perfect everything they do. Even the slightest mistake can cost you a loss in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Once you have improved your skills enough through recreational surfing, then you can move on to competitive surfing. Recreational surfing allows more freedom and creativity within the sport. Without the rules or the consequence of failing, you are free to try any maneuver at any time. It is often much easier to have fun with surfing without the pressures of a competitive aspect. Some might say recreational surfing is a way that you can truly express yourself as well as provide an opportunity to explore not only yourself, but the world. It can bring you to places that have been untouched by anyone else in the surfing world, allowing you to bring it to life. This can also allow some people to further progress within the sport much faster and fall even more in love with it. This kind of environment attracts people that are more easy going and are interested in doing some
  • 4. Motivation Observation How is a community formed? I have attended many churches and it can be difficult at times to be included as the rest of the congregation already has latent knowledge about each other which puts you on the outside. It can be difficult traversing the multitude of societal rules in order to become part of the community. Although the early church was encouraged to continue to meet together as, Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another and all the more as you see the Day approaching (New International Version 2011, Hebrews 10:25). However, it can be difficult to make those personal and deeper connections in order for members of the church to encourage one another. Over a period of seven weeks spanning the months of August to October, I undertook an ethnographic study of the evening meal called dinner which took place before the Eventide service at St. Elphaba s of the Vale. My ethnographic research was completed using the participant observationmethod during a Sunday evening from 6 6.30pm. By using this specific methodology I was able to engage in all the rituals involved with participating in the meal as well as observe the interactions of my informants around me. Each week I primarily studied one specific aspect of the meal service ritual, therefore, I have decided to write one account which is a combination of all of my weeks of participant observation. The primary theories which I will be using to interpret my observations are Bronislaw Malinowski and Marcel Mauss theories of exchange, specifically concerning the Kula ring as well as Emilie Durkheim s theory of the sacred profane dichotomy. St Elphaba s is situated in the Hills district of Sydney, Australia where the median total income of an individual, excluding Government pensions and allowances, for 2015 was $53,238 which is significantly higher than the Australian average of $44,854 (The Hills Shire (A): Region Data Summary 2017). And even though the Indians were much less advanced in technology and warfare, the American frontier men found a major obstacle in the Shawnee leader, Tecumseh. Tecumseh wielded more power than any other North American Indian before him, and no other Indian after him would ever come close to his political domination. His power was not a military power, directly threatening the United States, but rather the potential to unite a large confederation of Indian tribes to resist against the westward growing nation. Tecumseh was a major obstruction in the American westward movement because not only did he attempt to establish a vast Indian Confederation, which could have stopped the push westward to the Pacific, but also because he became allies with the British in the War of 1812, which was also a core barrier in the American obtaining of frontier lands. Tecumseh was born in 1768, and was the son of Puckeshinwau, a chief of the Kispapocoke or Kiskopoke clan and Methoataske, whom belonged to the Creek tribe. Tecumseh s early life was full of mixed feelings towards the Americans. Puckeshinwau was usually friendly with the Americans; Thus, Tecumseh learned to act peaceful towards the new white settlers. However, when Puckeshinwau died at the hands of Americans, his view of the European colonists changed dramatically. After his father s death, it is unclear who raised the young Shawnee, whether his brother, his mother, or Blackfish, another chief.

The themes of sin and repentance are strong in both works, but when those broad themes are broken down, the contrasting ideas can be seen. Jonathan Edwards, author of Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God, delivers his message by using harsh language and fear inducing tactics. Nathaniel Hawthornedevelops his theme by employing a parable, a more subtle strategy. Hawthorne s style is more effective due to the way he draws the reader in with an interesting story and does not make him/her feel like they are being put down. The stories have both similarities and differences in their themes, but the style is a very important aspect of literature as well, and Hawthorne overpowers Edwards in that area.... The Fourth Amendment states that the right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated... . Specific distinctions within the Amendment are made in the prior case of Terry v. Ohio(392 U.S. 1 [1968]). These distinctions discuss the rules and regulations adherent to stops of individuals by the authority. According to Justice Warren, delivering the opinion of the court in this case, the police should be allowed to stop a person and detaining him briefly for questioning upon suspicion that the individual may be connected with criminal activity . This statement basically explains that unusual conduct of an individual observed by the authorities can give reasonable suspicion that criminal activity may be afoot. This reasonable suspicion is grounds for a stop and brief questioning by the authorities. So, accordingly following these sets of rules, I must analyze how the law applies to reach a decision in favor, or in opposition to the stop of an individual. Defendant Miller clearly showed unusual conduct while walking in the street. He walked in one direction, looked toward the direction of the cops, and more profoundly made eye contact with one

Even though crime has been at a low during the past decade, violence is still prevalent in today s society. Most of these crimes happen in places that are socio economically disadvantaged. There then is the debate of whether violent crimeis associated with environments struck with poverty. There is a correlation between violent crimes and poverty because of the unemployment rates in major cities, the culture of poor areas, and drugs. This is a problem all over the world evident by demonstrations such as the Occupy movement, the Brazil protests, the protests in Greece, etc. These protestors are still voters and this causes a divide in a nation, hence the escalated instability and violence. Another big contributor is that of discrimination. If the majority of the poor in the US are black and brown, and poverty leads to crime, then most of the criminals will be black and brown. This is the case wherever the criminals are the poor ones. It can be argued that the right way is to get an education. Some say education leads to a more civilized person and in turn the violence is reduced. A free education does not guarantee that a child will go on to go to college. Some personally do not like the idea of any post secondary schooling. Others can say that the majority of black and brown criminals suggest problems within the social structures of those certain ethnic groups. This association with an ethnic group is worse when the word criminal implies a moral value. The mass incarceration tactics targets the black and brown population of the US and that is a huge issue. Bob thought the amount retailers in the shopping center would be willing to pay per square meter of floor space would be a decreasing function of the total size of the shopping center. But this picture is likely to change rapidly over the next 25 years: At current growth rates, the rich world s share of global output could shrink to less than two fifths by 2020. As transaction and communication costs fall, the proximity between sellers and buyers, which has traditionally been considered to be essential for many services, figures less prominently. Most important in this regard is that financial capital has gone global. Nowadays, the financial centres of the world economy provide the possibility for 24 hour trading in all sorts of financial assets. The deregulation of other business services such as banking and insurance also offers new opportunities for the tradability of services. Hence, standardized business services have become available around the world, which, in turn, has made the international fragmentation of production feasible. As a consequence of all this, not only the constraints on firms, but also on governments have completely changed. Globalization shapes the world economy in different ways. Most obviously, international trade and capital flows are affected. Over the last 30 years or so, international trade has grown faster on average than production, implying a more integrated world economy. Closer integration brings about opportunities for specialization, and hence increases interdependencies. This is highlighted by changes in the structure of world trade. For example, international sourcing, i.e. the purchase of intermediate inputs from foreign sources, has grown faster than domestic sourcing and now accounts for about half of all imports by major countries [OECD 19946d]; intra industry trade has

According to an industry trade association representative, Millions of foreigners, after arriving in Moscow and tasting our ice cream, have proclaimed Russian ice cream to be the best in the world. 7 In the selling of ice cream, many products competed for the consumer dollar, including beer (Baltica and dozens of other domestic brands), soda (primarily Pepsi and Coke), yogurts, chocolate (Mars, NestlГ©, and numerous domestic players such as Red October), and other confectionary candies. The producers of these products often spent considerably more on advertising than ice cream producers.8 In 2001, ice cream producers spent less than $5 million on advertising in Russia (1% of sales), while the $4.5 billion Russian beer market spent approximately $90 million (2% of sales) and the soft drink industry spent almost $200 million (7% of sales) on advertising.9 The beer, soft drink, and confectionary industries enjoyed increasing market demand rather than the depressed trend found in the Russian ice cream industry. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is worth mentioning that BIRADS readings have been found to correlate better with volumetric rather than area estimation methods despite the fact that visual assessment is done from a 2D projection of a mammogram, with suggestions that probably radiologists assessment of breast density from a 2D projection image is different from that of a software and the radiologist assesses the two views in a semi volumetric fashion.73This is also probably the reason why density reporting by radiologists in two view screening shows less variability than one view screening. In addition BIRADS is a categorical scale and so has limitations to its application due to its coarseness. For example it cannot be used where monitoring of small incremental changes in breast density is desired. Using visual BIRADS is also labor intensive and so needs to be assessed with regard to availability of scarce and valuable radiologist time especially in the context of a limited resource low and middle income country (LMIC) like Nigeria. Despite their limitations, BI RADS density assessment has shown strong relationship to cancer risk and to risk of missing

Tesla was born July 10th 1856, in Smilijan, Austrian Empire, which is now modern day Croatia and moved to the United States in 1884 to continue his career in engineering. Tesla s parents were both Serbian, his father was an Orthodox priest, writer and poet, while his mother was a creative and had the talent to construct things, especially her electronic every day household items. His father wanted him to become a priest but Tesla followed the mind set and footsteps of his mother and went above and beyond with his skills and knowledge. Like normal high school students, Tesla studied mathematics and physics at the University of Prague. What made Tesla stand out from other students was his incredible mind and memory. He supposedly had an eidetic memory (photographic memory), where he would have the ability to recall problems and text with ease, like reading a book and replaying a scene through the mind. Not only was his memory extraordinary, he contained the ability to perform calculus integration in his head, as well as learning eight different languages. Tesla s brain contained abilities out of this world that modern day technology cannot replicate. The ideas and creations visualized in his head, stayed in his head; he formed its mechanics and mathematical specifications without the use of a pencil and paper. One of the creations pulled off by

But what is the full extent of the effects of smoking on your body? The effects of smoking varies from person to person as it will depend on the person s vulnerability to the chemical in cigarette or tobacco smoke. It will also depend on the number of cigarette sticks a person smokes per day, the age when the person first started to smoke, and the number of years the person has been smoking. In the UK around 120,000 people die each year from smoking related diseases. 50% of long term smokers die prematurely from smoking, a large number of them when they reach middle age. Globally around 2.5 million people die each year from smoking and it has been estimated that some time during the 2020 s the number of deaths caused by smoking will hit the 10 million mark. The majority of people who die from smoking will have suffered from one of three main diseases: lung cancer, coronary heart disease or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Around 90% of all lung cancer deaths are caused from smoking and smoking is also the biggest risk factor for a number of other types of cancer as well. Overall, smoking has been linked to a third of all deaths from cancer. In the US, 1 in every 4 people die of cancer and over half a million people die each year from this disease. To give you a clearer idea, more than 1,500 people a day die from cancer. People who smoke a lot of cigarettes a day are particularly at risk of developing cancer and if those people have been smoking for a long time, the risk is even higher. For example, a person who has been smoking one packet of cigarettes a day for 30 years is more at risk than a person who has been smoking

It is something that seems so natural to us that we have forgotten that at one point in our lives we did not have this skill. Someone had to teach it to us. My research question for this topic is to see if combining Azrin and Foxx (1971, 1974) intensive toilet training model with teaching the prerequisite skills for using the bathroom (i.e., unbuttoning pants, pulling up and down pants and underwear, etc.) would be effective in teaching a child with autism to be toilet

The main characters in the story are sixteen year old Danny and Uno, who are both biracial; Danny s mother is white and his father is Mexican, and Uno s mother is Mexican and his father is African American. Over the summer, Danny and Uno find that they have a lot in common and even though they both go through similar hardships in life, each reveals contrasting ways of meeting a problem. Uno tries to overcome his obstacles with courage and boldness, whereas Danny habitually digs into his wrist until it bleeds. Danny is also an incredibly talented pitcher who could be signed by a college recruiter. However, he always shuts down and loses concentration when he is on the mound. • 37. Southern Gothic Literature Analysis Southern gothic literature is a genre that is set in the American south. Oxford Dictionaries defines southern gothic literature as, Characterized by plots involving violence or hidden trauma, eccentric and often psychologically troubled characters, and an atmosphere of repression and decay. The genre is one of dark, complex stories that are full of grotesque themes, unpredictable twists, and often include characters that are somewhat delusional. It is often packed with mystery and intrigue, and like many of the characters in these stories, it is not always what meets the eye. Throughout this paper, we ll be exploring some stories of this genre such as A Good Man is Hard to Find and Good Country People , both by Flannery O Connor, as well as William Faulkner s A Rose for Emily . Each one of these stories share similar elements when it comes to their settings, themes, tones, and characters, but they are also each different in their own respects. These stories each include a female character who is first thought to represent the image of a proper, southern woman, but later is shown to be much more than that. Miss Emily, the Grandmother, and Joy Hulga each challenge the common stereotypes of the lives of southern women and the values and beliefs of the South as a whole. Southern gothic literature is an extremely interesting genre to study, and there is certainly nothing about these stories that is dull. William Faulkner s A Rose for Emily is a great example of a true
