A Few Good Men
A Few Good Men is a 1992 American drama film directed by Rob Reiner and starring Tom
Cruise, Jack Nicholson, and Demi Moore. It was adapted for the screen by Aaron Sorkin from his
play of the same name. A courtroom drama, the film revolves around the court martial of two U.S.
Marinescharged with the murder of a fellow Marineand the tribulations of their lawyer as he
prepares a case to defend his clients.
Lieutenant Junior Grade Daniel Danny Kaffee (Tom Cruise) is an inexperienced U.S. Navy
Judge Advocate General s Corps lawyer who leads the defense in the court martial of two U.S.

In the course of the trial, it is established that code reds are standard in Guantanamo Bay as a
means of enforcing discipline and getting sloppy Marines to follow procedure. Kaffee especially
goes after Kendrick, particularly over the fact that he denied Dawson a promotion after the latter
helped out a fellow Marine who was under what could be seen as a code red.
Lieutenant Colonel Markinson has gone absent without leave since the incident, but he resurfaces
in Kaffee s car during the trial, revealing that Jessep never intended to transfer Santiago off the
base as previously claimed but created the transfer orders as part of a cover up long after Santiago
s death. Kaffee is unable to find evidence corroborating these claims and announces his intention to
have Markinson testify. Rather than publicly dishonor himself and the Marine Corps, Markinson
sends a letter to Santiago s parents, blaming his own weakness for the loss of their son, outfits
himself in full Dress Blue A uniform and commits suicide by shooting himself in the mouth with his
service pistol. Without Markinson s crucial testimony, Kaffee believes that the case is lost and
returns home after a drunken stupor, having come to regret that he fought the case instead of
considering the plea bargain.
Galloway, however, convinces Kaffee to take the great risk of calling Colonel Jessep as a

Persuasive Essay On Losing Weight
According to the Center for Disease Control over 70% of adults over the age of 20 are
overweight, and 38% of the population are classified as obese (cdc.gov). Every day we are sold
by the idea of The magical cure all , some supplement or diet that will somehow fix every issue
for you. The idea that we can literally change nothing about our lives and drop weight is seductive
and tempting, but ultimately it s utterly false. At its most basic level, losing weight is a math issue
and nothing more. There is no magical pill or supplement that will somehow make you burn all
the extra calories you re intaking everyday. So, with that said we are left with one of two options;
diet, or change your lifestyle. Dietingis defined as restricting oneself to small amounts or special
kind of food in order to lose weight. Instantly with that definition you receive such a negative
connotation to the idea of fat loss. The idea that a person has to Restrict themselves is almost
offensive to the average adult, it simply implies that they have this supreme lack of willpower and
have to force themselves into an uncomfortable position. In 2012 twenty billion dollars was spent in
the weight lossindustry, the average American will attempt to lose weight five times before any
meaningful results (The weight loss industry by the numbers). Even when the diet is successful the
average person on a diet will have recovered all their weight lost plus an additional few pounds six

The Nature Of Self By Sri Ramana Maharshi
The Nature of Self
Introduction
The life of man today is characterized by millions of activities that almost steal attention of one
self. It is literally impossible for man to quietly life in a serene place that is very quiet and free
from distraction of any manner. If anybody needs such scenery, then such a person has to invest a
lot on it. Technology has invaded almost all the private areas of human beings. Phones are
everywhere and electromagnetic radiations are everywhere. Even the once thought private zones
like bathrooms and toilets are being invaded by water proof podcasts and Iphones. It is because of
these kinds of distractions and the likes that the concept of nature of self becomes of importance.
The nature of self is an ideology, which is embedded on religious believes in Asia. Sri Ramana
Maharshi tried to explain the concept on different facets. The reason behind the multi facet nature
of the concept is because it tries to explain human behavior, which is very dynamic. The quest to
understand humanity propels this concept to a reality and makes it have diverse versions from
different people. Through the lens of subjects and objects in the greater universe, man tries to
explain himself and find peace with the environment. This is irrespective of whether an atheist or
theist. Nature of self not only concentrates on the explanation of the out going nature of the human
begins, but its religious aspect helps mediate on behavior of human beings. According to the

Mary Shelley s Frankenstein and Ridley Scott s Blade Runner
Comparison and Contrast
Introduction
Mary Shelley s Frankenstein and Ridley Scott s Blade Runner are two story lines created in a
different era, Frankenstein being an early published novel on the creation of an experimental
monster that longs to have a normal existence whilst Blade Runner is a more modern take to a
future society where there have been genetically engineered robots named replicas that are in
appearance indistinguishable from human beings which choose to escape to the planet earth in
search of extending their life spans.
The comparison of similarities between the two stories begins with the most simple and obvious
being the creation of as referred in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To contrast the two stories is relatively simple; the two films share forms of differences in era and a
basic human acceptance. Starting with era, Frankenstein is an early production/novel in which
scientifically a creature is created and serves as a warning how something that could prove well in
future can itself turn drastically wrong. This is also shown in the film Blade Runner providing a
simplicity for humans turns wrong with the creation of the replica robots being used as an ease in
which they get sick of and in turn escape to humanity having only a 4 year life span in which they
try to find a way to extend. This is different to Frankenstein s approach choosing instead to learn of
humanity and tries finding a way to be accepted instead of trying to merge and hide in humanity.
The human acceptance between both films is significantly different but in turn not so much,
Frankenstein for example is unaccepted because of his physical appearance and general attitude to
the human community for their reactions against him, whilst the replicas from the film Blade
Runner are accepted as they look and act alike to human beings which from a regular human their
differences would be hard to distinguish. Frankenstein is unaccepted in human

her parents, and most importantly, doesn t open up to anyone about her feelings. As the novel
extends to the middle point, Melinda slowly begins to thaw. Not only does she start to unfreeze,
she begins to open up to specific and important people in her life. Opening up allows her to feel
true happiness and trust. FInally, as the book starts to make way towards the ending, Melinda is
starting to fully unveil and open up to important people in her life. The author is explaining that if

Jeremiah Project Research Paper
Incident: Jeremiah Project This past summer, for the first time ever, I spent a week away from
my parents. I went on a mission trip called the Jeremiah Project. Jeremiah Project or JP is based
on the biblical prophet Jeremiah who was called by God to help people in his town while still a
young teen. His example serves to encourage youth to do good work and help people. Although
inspired by our church youth leaders, I could not help but feel a little afraid to be away from family.
I also did not really know what I was going to be asked to do, how I would get along with the other
older kids, or how I was really going to take care of myself. When I stepped off the bus unto the

god gives me and provides for me. The next day we went straight back to work you know when
you are helping someone you are really doing what god wants you to do I really love to put my
mind to things and make a big difference in the world and just building a Fence, sealing a roof,
building a ramp and even building a relationship. I really worked hard because I knew the people
that I was helping will now live without any house problems.
Now looking back I realize that 1 group of people can sit together and change the world I really and
deeply care for people who need help in any way. I started to be a little less self centered and
decided to be a little more caring to others who had less things than I did. My experience at the

My Passion Of Soccer
Everyone has that certain thing that makes them who they are. That certain thing for me is
soccer. It s my hobby, my biggest interest, and my passion. Soccer isn t just a sport for me, it s my
life. It has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. I have played the intriguing game of
soccer since I was four years old, and I have loved it ever since.
I am known as a soccer player, which makes sense because it takes up most of my time, and that s
what I m all about. I ve been to Texas, Oklahoma, Iowa, Nebraska, and Missouri for soccer
tournaments or games. Since the leagues in the Kansas City area are much more competitive,
my family and I spend almost every weekend there due to games. I ve spent countless hours at
games and practices, as well as other workouts and fitness events to better myself as an individual
player. I have had to miss other social events with my friends because of my dedication to soccer. I
have even had to miss friday night football games because of prior soccer commitments, and I love
friday night lights. There are mornings after games and tournaments when I wake up sore, with
swollen, black and blue bruises from cleats or from collisions that happened during games, but I
wouldn t give up it up for anything.
Balancing soccer with all other aspects of my life gets a little challenging sometimes. From school
with homework, to all of the extracurricular activities that I am involved in, I rarely ever have a
free night. Between Link Crew,

Everyday Use Symbolism
A symbol is a person, place, event, or object that suggests more than just its normal meaning. The
symbols in this story, Everyday Use , were pretty clever and told a lot of clues about the story. Also
Little peepholes that would dig into deeper meanings, and hints in the story.
The first symbol, which I thought meant something was towards Maggie and Dee s mom. I was
always better at a man s job. (pg.320). In real life I am a large, big boned woman with rough,
man working hands. (pg. 318). I can kill and clean a hog as mercilessly as a man. (pg. 318) I think
because man was used a lot referring to their Mom, might have meant that she was the man of the
house. Maybe that she was the only parent and that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I think it might have been a clever way of telling the readers that she did indeed start the fire, which
burned down the house that she didn t like.
What happened to Dee? I wanted to know. She s dead, Wangero said. I couldn t bear it any
longer, being named after the people who oppress me. (pg. 321). I think this might be a clue that
Dee herself is a symbol of change. Knowing that she wanted to change her name and she could
have started the house on fire because she wanted a change, a new house. Another symbol that
she is change might be how Maggie has scars from the fire I think Dee started and will never
change her look, but Dee will always be able to change.
Maggie can t appreciate these quilts! She said She d probably be back ward enough to put them
to everyday use. (pg. 323). This I m assuming is another give away that Dee represents change.
She wouldn t use a quilt for everyday use because she would always want to be changing things,
not using them everyday. Unlike Maggie who will always have those scares and would always use
the quilts.
I m thinking that the author s main use of these symbols probably suggest that she was pushing the
theme of the story. That we, the readers, could possibly understand what the whole purpose of this
story meant. The symbols were clues into deeper understandings of the story and how

Protagonist In The Cask Of Amontillado
How far would you go to make your adversary pay for what he or she has done to you? In the novel,
it is already pointing out the disagreement between the two main characters in the first few lines.
The disagreement includes the antagonist (Fortunado) being very physical towards the protagonist
(Amontillado) but when the antagonist ventures into insult, the protagonist becomes imprudent and
jumps right into what type of revenge he will do to make him pay. Is the protagonist within reason
or just plain delirious? Amontillado has a very diverse and complex way of being. He not only
wants to punish his victim, he wants to punish him with impunity, which means to be exempt from
the consequences. Amontillado is inclined toward using Fortunado s

professional learning communities. He explores how the core principles of professional learning
communities guide school efforts to sustain the professional learning community model until it is

The Beliefs And Beliefs Of Different Religions On Death
Nature of Death
With a beginning of life there is an end, but the nature of death and how it is view can affect how
we live. Death is understood to be that one s biological function cease to function and the body
no longer is capable of anything (Pence, 2011). The nature of death is viewed by each one of us
differently and this paper is going to discuss the values and beliefs of different religions on death.
This paper is going to look at Hinduism, Buddhism, Confucianism, Taoism, and Shinto religion
discussing what the nature of death virtues and values are. Finally discussing the overall understand
of the nature of death within all these religions.
Hinduism is a religion that follows concepts of the Upanishads, which includes the Brahman,
Atman, Maya, Karma, Samsara, and Moksha. The concepts provide guidance throughout life and
are key to a final death. The Brahman is something one believes in and is experience in the world
that surround him. The Atman is who we are the identity of our soul, an understanding we are not
just a body we are more. The term Brahman refers to the experience of the sacred within nature
and the external universe, while Atman refers to the experience of the sacred within oneself
(Molloy, 2013, p. 83). Along with understanding the spiritual aspect of nature and one s soul is
understanding how this effects every living thing. The Maya which can be referred to as magic or
illusion is an important factor in life and death. Hinduism, form

The Cia Director Allen Dulled Sanctioned The Mkultra Program
When many Americans think about Germany, they think of the Nazis and the experiments they did

thing. It all started in the 50 s during the Korean War. Concerned about the rumors of Communist
brainwashing of POWs, the CIA director Allen Dulled sanctioned the MKULTRA program in April

The most notorious MKULTRA experiments were the CIA is pioneering studies of the drug, which

Slack Off Research Paper
I am a slacker. There is no possible way I will deny that. In some ways, slacking off is both a
good thing and a bad thing. I will admit that I love slacking because I don t have to worry about
anything that is so important and that I can only focus on my video games. It s true. Every time
I m at home, I play video games and slack off. Every time I am in school, I slack off and feel like
that I shouldn t do my work at all. That s what most slackers feel like. They feel like they shouldn t
do anything that feels important with the exception of video games.
What is my advice for future students? Do not become a slacker. That s the only advice I can
give. What are the main reasons? First, slacking off is not a good thing depending on how you
look at it. Slacking off can drive you away from your school work and you will definitely not
graduate from high school and you will most likely not get a good job because you didn t go to
college. The second reason is that slacking off will get you nowhere. School is the most
important thing in your life and slacking off will not help that in any way. You need to graduate in
order to have a job and in order to get money so that you can buy what every you want. Finally,
slacking off will not help your family members. Let s say that you have chores to do. You were
asked to wash the dishes, cut the grass, clean your room and many other things. You feel like the
chores are of no importance so you slack off and play video games all the long. If you slack off,
you can t help your parents around the house or do ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Looking back, I can clearly remember the moment where I fell in love with murder mysteries. I

they tried to solve each case. The thrill of wondering whether or not they would find the true
culprits would entice my young mind. This sense of wonder has stuck with me to this day. The
book The Lovely Bonesby Alice Seboldis a thrilling tale about a young girl getting murdered. The
movie of the same name, directed by Peter Jackson is pretty good too. The book, however; is far
more superior than the movie because of its detail of events, openness of the characters feelings,

The Five Themes Of Geography In Wailuku
My name is Elijah Holdeman I was born in Wailuku, (Maui) Hawaii. Today I would like to visit the
five themes of geography in Wailuku. We will look at the location, the place, the region, the human
/environment interactions, and the movement. LOCATION
Wailuku is located in the North East Part of Maui on the border of the peninsula sticking out to
the ocean. Wailuku in ancient times was home to many ancient hawaiian rulers including
kamehameha (1758 1782). In the 19 hundreds Wailuku became the location of the century
mission stations and the birthplace of the great sugar industries. I believe this area was chosen
because it separates the past two great water supplies. Now it is a beach front and central power

wars and battles, and the central of government. At this day and age it is a mix of many different
cultures. In the ancient times there was only polynesian culture. At this time it is around half native

Shrek as an Epic Hero
Shrek as an Epic Hero Although most people find the film Shrek to be just a comical film, it
actually fulfills the requirements needed to prove that Shrek is indeed an epic hero. Shrek is a
2001 computer animated fantasy comedy film based on William Steig s fairytale picture book,
Shrek! He has all the characteristics of an epic hero archetype, regardless of his hideous and vulgar
appearance as an ogre. Shrekis brave, loyal, and lives up to the standards our society expects and
appreciates. Shrek presents himself as evil and mean but on the inside he is actually compassionate

Fiona requests that Shrek take off his helmet so that they can kiss demonstrating the meeting of
the oracle. Shrek resists the seizing of the sword and will not take off his helmet. They go back
and forth until Shrek resists the journeying to the sword and picks up Fiona and carries her away.
Shrek has a near death experience as he battles Robin Hood and ends up with an arrow in his butt.
The atonement of the father is revealed when Shrek and Fiona fall for each other. The apotheosis of
the monomyth is when Donkey finds Fiona and realizes that she turns into an ogre at night. The
ultimate boon could be one of two things in this tale. At first Shrek planned on the ultimate boon to
be getting Fiona back to Lord Farquaad. However, right when he is about to return her, his
ultimate boon is to get her to love him back. In Campbell s book the ultimate boon is described as,
What the hero seeks through his intercourse with them is therefore not finally themselves, but their
grace. For the most part the initiation is the capturing of the princess and escaping the dragon.
However, the return of the hero mixes in with the initiation due the journey not being complete.
Since there are two climaxes to the movie, the return can either be after the capture of the
princess or after Fiona declares her love for Shrek. The refusal of the return is Shrek not wanting
to bring Fiona to Lord Farquaad due to him falling in love with her. Campbell explains the

for that can be learned is not what is written on the page, but what is left out of the articles.
How do we take on the business press from an OB point of view? Everyone needs to simply put
on your investigator hat, ask questions, analyze the situation, and consider the source! (Robbins
and Judge, 2011). If we lower our guard and believe every scrap of information that floats by us
on the news or in written publications without question, then we might as well just give up and get

understanding company objectives and following pre lain guidelines for success within the

The introduction chapter begins with the background to the research project, this looks at
maintenance and its importance to a manufacturing or production environment. This goes on to
look at the formulation of the problem statement which gives an insight into the impact of
maintenance on the production cycle. The problem discussion is therefore narrowed down where
the problem formulation and research question will be presented. Some shortcomings about the

How Did Anne Hathaway Brought Up
7 Anne Hathaway Was Too Demanding For Knocked Up
Anne Hathaway was initially chosen to play the role of Alison in the film Knocked Up

According to writer and director Judd Apatow the actress didn t want to allow us to use real
footage of a woman giving birth to create the illusion that she is giving birth . Hathaway said in a
later interview that she didn t believe that it was necessary to the story. Considering that the movie
is based on pregnancy and childbirth this does seem a little strange but then again it is Hollywood.
Hathaway was replaced with Katherine Heigl who we feel was a much better fit for the film
anyway. Hathaway moved on to her back up project Becoming Jane which didn t fare nearly as
well with audiences as Knocked Up.

The Bruce Invasion, initiated by Robert Bruce, king of Scotland, and enacted on by his brother

The Problem of Poverty in Famine, Affluence, and Morality...
Peter Singer is often regarded as one of the most productive and influential philosophers of modern
times. He is well known for his discussions of the acute social, economic, and political issues,
including poverty and famines. In his Famine, Affluence, and Morality , Singer (1972) discusses
the problem of povertyand hunger, as well as the way this problem is treated in the developed
world. Singer believes that charity is inseparable from morality, and no distinction can be drawn
between charity and duty. The philosopher offers possible objections to his proposition and relevant
arguments to justify his viewpoint. The modern world does not support Singer s view, treating
charity as a voluntary activity, an act of generosity that needs... Show more content on

Singer (1972) is convinced that affluent societies should give away within the limits that do not
slow down their economic and social growth. Here, the concept of marginal utility comes into
play. According to Singer (1972), marginal utility is the level, at which, by giving more, I would
cause as much suffering to myself or my dependents as I would relieve by my gift (p. 241). In
other words, it is a fragile boundary between being a moral person and a person, who makes his
dependents suffer for the sake of saving some distant communities from poverty. Marginal utility is
a measure of balance, which implies that bad things are prevented without causing other bad things
to happen. Singer (1972) does not say that affluent societies should limit themselves to marginal
utility, but they should avoid causing something significantly bad to their families. Certainly, the
world presented by Singer (1972) differs considerably from the real order of things. In the real
world, charity is not considered as a moral duty. Rather, it is a voluntary act of generosity, which is
subject to public approval and praise. This position favors many society members, who can use
charity as an instrument of manipulation to achieve their own purposes. Meanwhile, a consensus is
emerging that charity is a negative phenomenon, which does not allow changing the situation from
within. According to BBC (n.d.), charity deals with the symptoms, rather than causes, of poverty
and famines. It

Banning Prayer In Schools
If you were to sit in the bleachers of a football game today, would God be mentioned? More and
more schools across the nation are banning prayer that is recited over the loudspeakers. The
controversy has arose over the past 20 years. How would you feel if a Friday night tradition of
praying was taken away from your night? Would you feel as if you were missing something? The
assistant coach for Bremerton High School, Joe Kennedy, prayed at the 50 yard line before and
after every game with his team would join him unforced. It was a Friday night tradition for the
coach. He was asked to stop by the Bremerton High School District because it would be violating
federal law. Kennedy prayed anyway like he had done the past seven years after the team s
homecoming loss. He walked onto the field to pray alone, except when he opened his eyes, he
found a huge crowd of supporters around him. The school district put him... Show more content on

The suspension didn t stop him from being a coach.
In 1995, a case originated out of Galveston County, Texas where two families, one catholic and the
other mormon, sued the Santa Fe School District. The families did not agree with the school s
policy to elect a chaplain to lead prayers at graduation and home football games over their PA
system.
After a five year court battle, the courts ruled that the public school districts cannot let students lead
crowds in prayer before football games. The reasoning was because the prayer is happening on
government land at school sponsored events, that they are pushing the constitutional requirement
that separates church from state.
Players will still be allowed to pray on their own before, during, or after games as long as the prayer
is done by themselves. Some teams have said that their football players can still pray before games
as long as they are the ones initiating it, and the coaches are not allowed to

The Balanced Scorecard Essays
Introduction
The balanced scorecard is a strategic planning and management system that was developed by
Dr. Robert S. Kaplan and Dr. David P. Norton in the early 1990 s. Their goal was to provide
organizations with a clear understanding of what to measure in order to improve performance and
results (Balanced Scorecard Institute 2014). The balanced scorecard is a framework that allows an
organization to measure performance and compare it to the organization s strategic objectives and
goals (Kinney and Raiborn 2013, 10).
Purpose of the Balanced Scorecard
The balanced scorecard uses short and long term, internal and external, and financial and
nonfinancial measures to evaluate performance. Management can analyze these measures and

The internal perspective focuses on employees and their contentment with the organization, the
quality of products and services, and cost management (Kinney and Raiborn 2013, 11).
Learning and Growth Perspective The learning and growth perspective uses the organization s
resources to adapt to the changing wants and needs of customers. The organizations must ask itself
whether it can continue to improve and create value for its customers (Kinney and Raiborn 2013,
11). An organization s ability to innovate and improve their products or services directly affects its
value. An organization can create economic growth by developing new products and services,
improving existing products and services, and developing more efficient operations (Kaplan and
Norton January/February 1992, 75).
Financial Performance Perspective The financial perspective uses financial performance measures
to determine whether the organization s strategy and actions are profitable. An organization s
financial goals may be as simple as: to survive, to succeed, and to prosper. Survival can be
measured by cash flow, success can be measured by growth in sales and income, and prosperity can
be measured by increased market share and return on equity. Managers are encouraged to use
financial measures like these to demonstrate their financial position to shareholders. (Kaplan and

Comparing Love In The Canterbury Tales
Love in The Knight s Tale, Wife of Bath s Tale, and Franklin s Tale
The Canterbury Tales, written by Geoffrey Chaucer around 1386, is a
collection of tales told by pilgrims on a religious pilgrimage. Three of these
tales; The Knight s Tale , The Wife of Bath s Tale , and The Franklin s Tale ,
involve different kinds of love and different love relationships. Some of the
loves are based on nobility, some are forced and some are based on mutual
respect for each partner. My idea of love is one that combines aspects from each
of the tales told in The Canterbury Tales.
In The Knights Tale , the love between the two knights and Emily is
intensely powerful. The love that Palomon and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Palomon says, The Beauty of the lady whom I see wandering yonder in the garden

the love of this woman, whom they have never even met. For all they know she
could be the most annoying person on earth. In that case they would be risking
their lives, only to spend the rest of it with a beautiful and extremely
annoying woman.
In The Wife of Bath s Tale A knightis forced to marry a wretched old
woman to avoid death. The knight and the old woman do not get along well, and
when the old woman suggests that she can make things better, the knight responds
saying, Corrected? . . . It will never be corrected! You are so loathsome and
old. A love relationship such as this could never last because their is no
attraction, physical or mental. A major factor in love is physical attraction
between the two partners, here their is no attraction. Two people cannot love
each other if they can t stand to be around each other. The knight can hardly bare
to look at his wife, let alone sleep with her.

drive the Cadillac to Mississippi to visit his parents. Along the way, the family sees many forms of
racial discrimination. Lois is very confused by the signs in the south. She doesn t understand why
blacks and whites are separated. While driving, the family is stopped by a policeman. He insists that

with the fact that blacks used to be slaves. Additionally, another reason he has for the signs is
that Jim Crow Laws stopped blacks and whites from having equal rights. Lois and Wilma learn

that they didn t need the Cadillac to be rich. They were rich because they had each other. Having

The Human Genome
The human genome is a vast sequence of nucleic acids consisting of adenine, thymine, guanine,
and cytosine which are connected into a long polymer by a sugar phosphate backbone. The
entirety of the genome is approximately 3 billion base pairs which encodes for all functional
proteins and RNA molecules needed for life. Remarkably, only a small fraction of the genome
actually constitute genes; about 15% of the genome are genes or gene related sequences, while
85% of the genome is noncoding (Krawczak and Schmidtke, 1994). Of the noncoding region there
are specific regions that vary highly between individual people. These regions are polymorphic, or
in other words have many different forms. Some loci vary so much that it is rare to find... Show

The amount each sequence is repeated varies between individuals and the specific nucleotide
pattern can differ as well (Krawczak and Schmidtke, 1994). However, high quantities of DNA were
needed to acquire accurate results when comparing VNTR regions. Therefore short tandem
repeats (STRs), or microsatellites, proved to be better suited for use in forensic analysis. STRs
are similar to VNTRs in that they are portions of the noncoding DNA that contain various
amounts of repeated units. But in regards to VNTRs, STRs have a much shorter repetitive
sequence, usually between 2 to 6 nucleotides, but sometimes can be up to 10 base pairs (Figure
1). The small size of STRs in comparison to VNTRs allows for more efficient amplification of
the DNA via PCR and enables scientists to use DNA that has been more significantly degraded.
Forensic analysts compare 13 different STR locations plus one that determines gender of the
obtained sample (Roewer, 2013). STRs vary highly between individuals; for example, one person
could have an STR at a specific locus encoding the following: CGCGCGCGCGCG, whereas
another person could have CGCG at the same locus.
In these tandemly repeated units, there is a higher extent for variation between these sequences
than found in gene sequences due to the organism being more tolerant to aberrations in these
portions of the genome. Therefore these areas will have many different forms, sometimes as many
as 2000. Thus if several

COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE
If a value creating strategy is implemented by an Organization and it is not being implemented at
the same time by another organization, one can say the organization has a competitive advantage
over its competitors. It is imperative for a firm to choose the height of competitive advantage it
wants to attain in the industry. An organization must aim to initiate a profitable and sustainable
spot against your competitors in the same industry. WHAT IS COMPETITIVE STRATEGY?

If a firm possesses high skilled Human Resource that can successfully implement this strategy, it
will reduce price sensitivity and improve brand loyalty from consumers.
For example, iPhone is so different that even a 5 year old can differentiate it from other phones; its
uniqueness is second to none, which makes it hard for their competitors to overrun them in the
market. This strategy focuses on creating uniqueness such that a firm s product and services are
clearly differentiated from its rivals. Innovation and creativity is the primary focus of this strategy
and this has long been identified as the necessary ingredients to obtaining a competitive advantage.
FOCUS STRATEGY
Focus strategy is a competitive strategy that selects a segment or group of segments in an industry
and focuses its strategy to serving them only. Focus strategy recognizes that selling to a
homogenous customer group may not be very effective for the product and services of the firm.
Instead they focus its marketing efforts on a selected market segments. They identify the needs,
wants and interests of the particular market segments and customize marketing techniques to reflect
those needs, wants and interests.

strategy) can only take place in

Human Overpopulation Essay
Human overpopulation occurs when the ecological footprint of a human population in a specific
location exceeds the carrying capacity of the place occupied by that group. Overpopulation can
further be viewed, in a long term perspective, as existing when a population cannot be maintained
given the rapid depletion of nonrenewable resources or given the degradation of the of the
environment to give support to the population. Overpopulationis a problem that needs to be solved.
Concern about overpopulation has existed for hundreds of years.Tertullian was a resident of the
city of Carthage in the second century CE, when the population of the world was about 190
million. He said: What most frequently meets our view (and occasions complaint) is our teeming
population. Our numbers are burdensome to the world, which can hardly support us.... In very
deed, pestilence, and famine, and wars, and earthquakes have to be regarded as a remedy for
nations, as the means of pruning the luxuriance of the human race. Before that, Plato, Aristotle and
others had concern for the topic as well. Laws existing to prevent the rapid growth of the
population have been around for hundreds of years. However in the modern world, China is one of
the countries with laws regulating birth rates. They have two child per household limit to combat
the rapid growth of the dense population. India has one of the densest populations in the world and
in order to combat the growing number of people, the government

And here was a road that went off at right angles, that could bend and double back, that was open to
whatever sheep might wander into it (338). She appreciates the unconventional because she is not a
typical person, or leading a normal life. Margaret Fuller later introduces Una to Transcendentalism,
which is more like a philosophy than a religion, but that Una finds even better than Unitarianism.
As the novel continues, and Una endures more tragedy and experiences more, her search changes.
At first she views the lighthouse as God in the microcosm of her island. She and Frannie idolize
the lighthouse and worship it, I allowed Frannie to kiss the lichen crusted stone with her lips, as
though he were an holy icon, the mighty thighbone of God, and I stood beside her and sang a
hymn, such as they sang in my father s church, God of Wisdom, God of Power, changing the
words to suit me: Sign of Safety, Sign of Silence, Sing we to Thy Speaking of the Light, and
thanked him many times for his palpable being (44). Here Una can relate the lighthouse to God
because it is tangible, and earthly. She does not have to picture some abstract being, or create
dogmas to accompany it, the lighthouse is merely a great object that represents a higher power.
Una then begins to see God elsewhere. When she goes to Boston with her family, she sees
religious icons in a shop, I imaged and prayed to them

  • 2. A Few Good Men A Few Good Men is a 1992 American drama film directed by Rob Reiner and starring Tom Cruise, Jack Nicholson, and Demi Moore. A courtroom drama, the film revolves around the court martial of two U.S. Marinescharged with the murder of a fellow Marineand the tribulations of their lawyer as he prepares a case to defend his clients. Lieutenant Junior Grade Daniel Danny Kaffee (Tom Cruise) is an inexperienced U.S. Navy Judge Advocate General s Corps lawyer who leads the defense in the court martial of two U.S. Marines, Private First Class Louden Downey (James Marshall) and Lance Corporal Harold Dawson (Wolfgang Bodison), who are accused of having murdered a fellow... In the course of the trial, it is established that code reds are standard in Guantanamo Bay as a means of enforcing discipline and getting sloppy Marines to follow procedure. Kaffee especially goes after Kendrick, particularly over the fact that he denied Dawson a promotion after the latter helped out a fellow Marine who was under what could be seen as a code red. Lieutenant Colonel Markinson has gone absent without leave since the incident, but he resurfaces in Kaffee s car during the trial, revealing that Jessep never intended to transfer Santiago off the base as previously claimed but created the transfer orders as part of a cover up long after Santiago s death. Kaffee is unable to find evidence corroborating these claims and announces his intention to have Markinson testify. Rather than publicly dishonor himself and the Marine Corps, Markinson sends a letter to Santiago s parents, blaming his own weakness for the loss of their son, outfits himself in full Dress Blue A uniform and commits suicide by shooting himself in the mouth with his service pistol. Without Markinson s crucial testimony, Kaffee believes that the case is lost and returns home after a drunken stupor, having come to regret that he fought the case instead of considering the plea bargain. Galloway, however, convinces Kaffee to take the great risk of calling Colonel Jessep as a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Persuasive Essay On Losing Weight According to the Center for Disease Control over 70% of adults over the age of 20 are overweight, and 38% of the population are classified as obese (cdc.gov). Every day we are sold by the idea of The magical cure all , some supplement or diet that will somehow fix every issue for you. The idea that we can literally change nothing about our lives and drop weight is seductive and tempting, but ultimately it s utterly false. At its most basic level, losing weight is a math issue and nothing more. There is no magical pill or supplement that will somehow make you burn all the extra calories you re intaking everyday. So, with that said we are left with one of two options; diet, or change your lifestyle. Dietingis defined as restricting oneself to small amounts or special kind of food in order to lose weight. Instantly with that definition you receive such a negative connotation to the idea of fat loss. The idea that a person has to Restrict themselves is almost offensive to the average adult, it simply implies that they have this supreme lack of willpower and have to force themselves into an uncomfortable position. In 2012 twenty billion dollars was spent in the weight lossindustry, the average American will attempt to lose weight five times before any meaningful results (The weight loss industry by the numbers). Even when the diet is successful the average person on a diet will have recovered all their weight lost plus an additional few pounds six months after (Long term ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is literally impossible for man to quietly life in a serene place that is very quiet and free from distraction of any manner. If anybody needs such scenery, then such a person has to invest a lot on it. Technology has invaded almost all the private areas of human beings. Phones are everywhere and electromagnetic radiations are everywhere. Even the once thought private zones like bathrooms and toilets are being invaded by water proof podcasts and Iphones. It is because of these kinds of distractions and the likes that the concept of nature of self becomes of importance. The nature of self is an ideology, which is embedded on religious believes in Asia. Sri Ramana Maharshi tried to explain the concept on different facets. The reason behind the multi facet nature of the concept is because it tries to explain human behavior, which is very dynamic. The quest to understand humanity propels this concept to a reality and makes it have diverse versions from different people. Mary Shelley s Frankenstein and Ridley Scott s Blade Runner Comparison and Contrast Introduction Mary Shelley s Frankenstein and Ridley Scott s Blade Runner are two story lines created in a different era, Frankenstein being an early published novel on the creation of an experimental monster that longs to have a normal existence whilst Blade Runner is a more modern take to a future society where there have been genetically engineered robots named replicas that are in appearance indistinguishable from human beings which choose to escape to the planet earth in search of extending their life spans. The comparison of similarities between the two stories begins with the most simple and obvious being the creation of as referred in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To contrast the two stories is relatively simple; the two films share forms of differences in era and a basic human acceptance. Starting with era, Frankenstein is an early production/novel in which scientifically a creature is created and serves as a warning how something that could prove well in future can itself turn drastically wrong. This is also shown in the film Blade Runner providing a simplicity for humans turns wrong with the creation of the replica robots being used as an ease in which they get sick of and in turn escape to humanity having only a 4 year life span in which they try to find a way to extend. This is different to Frankenstein s approach choosing instead to learn of humanity and tries finding a way to be accepted instead of trying to merge and hide in humanity. The human acceptance between both films is significantly different but in turn not so much, Frankenstein for example is unaccepted because of his physical appearance and general attitude to the human community for their reactions against him, whilst the replicas from the film Blade Runner are accepted as they look and act alike to human beings which from a regular human their differences would be hard to distinguish. • 8. Jeremiah Project Research Paper Incident: Jeremiah Project This past summer, for the first time ever, I spent a week away from my parents. I went on a mission trip called the Jeremiah Project. Jeremiah Project or JP is based on the biblical prophet Jeremiah who was called by God to help people in his town while still a young teen. His example serves to encourage youth to do good work and help people. Although inspired by our church youth leaders, I could not help but feel a little afraid to be away from family. I also did not really know what I was going to be asked to do, how I would get along with the other older kids, or how I was really going to take care of myself. I really worked hard because I knew the people that I was helping will now live without any house problems. Now looking back I realize that 1 group of people can sit together and change the world I really and deeply care for people who need help in any way. I started to be a little less self centered and decided to be a little more caring to others who had less things than I did. • 9. My Passion Of Soccer Everyone has that certain thing that makes them who they are. That certain thing for me is soccer. It s my hobby, my biggest interest, and my passion. Soccer isn t just a sport for me, it s my life. It has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. I have played the intriguing game of soccer since I was four years old, and I have loved it ever since. I am known as a soccer player, which makes sense because it takes up most of my time, and that s what I m all about. I ve been to Texas, Oklahoma, Iowa, Nebraska, and Missouri for soccer tournaments or games. Since the leagues in the Kansas City area are much more competitive, my family and I spend almost every weekend there due to games. I ve spent countless hours at games and practices, as well as other workouts and fitness events to better myself as an individual player. I have had to miss other social events with my friends because of my dedication to soccer. I have even had to miss friday night football games because of prior soccer commitments, and I love friday night lights. There are mornings after games and tournaments when I wake up sore, with swollen, black and blue bruises from cleats or from collisions that happened during games, but I wouldn t give up it up for anything. What happened to Dee? I wanted to know. She s dead, Wangero said. I couldn t bear it any longer, being named after the people who oppress me. (pg. 321). I think this might be a clue that Dee herself is a symbol of change. Knowing that she wanted to change her name and she could have started the house on fire because she wanted a change, a new house. Another symbol that she is change might be how Maggie has scars from the fire I think Dee started and will never change her look, but Dee will always be able to change. Maggie can t appreciate these quilts! She said She d probably be back ward enough to put them to everyday use. (pg. 323). This I m assuming is another give away that Dee represents change. She wouldn t use a quilt for everyday use because she would always want to be changing things, not using them everyday. Unlike Maggie who will always have those scares and would always use the quilts. I m thinking that the author s main use of these symbols probably suggest that she was pushing the theme of the story. They feel like they shouldn t do anything that feels important with the exception of video games. What is my advice for future students? Do not become a slacker. That s the only advice I can give. What are the main reasons? First, slacking off is not a good thing depending on how you look at it. Slacking off can drive you away from your school work and you will definitely not graduate from high school and you will most likely not get a good job because you didn t go to college. The second reason is that slacking off will get you nowhere. School is the most important thing in your life and slacking off will not help that in any way. You need to graduate in order to have a job and in order to get money so that you can buy what every you want. Finally, slacking off will not help your family members. Let s say that you have chores to do. You were asked to wash the dishes, cut the grass, clean your room and many other things. This means that when Jamal is with his friends, he hides his true identity because he refuses to be an outcast. His fear of judgmental assumptions from his friends is overcome when he discloses the information that he would be attending a higher class school, Mailor. This news shocks them due to the fact he lives in a run down part of town and is not portrayed to be the type of person to attend a nice school. Singer (1972) is convinced that affluent societies should give away within the limits that do not slow down their economic and social growth. Here, the concept of marginal utility comes into play. According to Singer (1972), marginal utility is the level, at which, by giving more, I would cause as much suffering to myself or my dependents as I would relieve by my gift (p. 241). In other words, it is a fragile boundary between being a moral person and a person, who makes his dependents suffer for the sake of saving some distant communities from poverty. Marginal utility is a measure of balance, which implies that bad things are prevented without causing other bad things to happen. Singer (1972) does not say that affluent societies should limit themselves to marginal utility, but they should avoid causing something significantly bad to their families. Certainly, the world presented by Singer (1972) differs considerably from the real order of things. In the real world, charity is not considered as a moral duty. Rather, it is a voluntary act of generosity, which is subject to public approval and praise. This position favors many society members, who can use charity as an instrument of manipulation to achieve their own purposes. Remarkably, only a small fraction of the genome actually constitute genes; about 15% of the genome are genes or gene related sequences, while 85% of the genome is noncoding (Krawczak and Schmidtke, 1994). The amount each sequence is repeated varies between individuals and the specific nucleotide pattern can differ as well (Krawczak and Schmidtke, 1994). However, high quantities of DNA were needed to acquire accurate results when comparing VNTR regions. Therefore short tandem repeats (STRs), or microsatellites, proved to be better suited for use in forensic analysis. STRs are similar to VNTRs in that they are portions of the noncoding DNA that contain various amounts of repeated units. But in regards to VNTRs, STRs have a much shorter repetitive sequence, usually between 2 to 6 nucleotides, but sometimes can be up to 10 base pairs (Figure 1). The small size of STRs in comparison to VNTRs allows for more efficient amplification of the DNA via PCR and enables scientists to use DNA that has been more significantly degraded. Forensic analysts compare 13 different STR locations plus one that determines gender of the obtained sample (Roewer, 2013). STRs vary highly between individuals; for example, one person could have an STR at a specific locus encoding the following: CGCGCGCGCGCG, whereas another person could have CGCG at the same locus.
