Cause And Symptoms Of Alzheimer s Disease
What is Alzheimer s disease?
Alzheimer s is a disease that erases the memory of people quietly. People will have difficulty in
memorize recently happened events rather than the things happened years ago.
Changes in the brain:
It will damage the brain by a protein which will abnormally form amyloid plaques and tan tangles.
The damages to the brain probably exist more than 10 years before cognitive problems occur which
means it is symptom free during preclinical stage. At beginning, damage happens in hippocampus,
affects the forming of memories. Then, after more neuron is died and more parts of brain are affected,
the brain began to shrink. Lastly, damage spreads widely and the shrinkage can be seen obviously.

The cancer drug works as a completely different role in the brain. It is now trying to reduce the high
level of abnormal protein amyloid beta (A beta). It will change the behavior of a cholesterol carrying
protein (ApoE).
When tested on mice that brain was full of A beta, only hours after, the A beta level fell. Later on, 25%
reduced after hours and 75% reduced after 14 days. The reverse of A beta level was significantly. The
testing mice also started to be no longer have memory loss since mice used to have Alzheimer s were
able to building nest like home again. Another testing is about sense of smell, the testing mice became
familiar with the kind of odor that put several time. From the changes of these testing mice, it is
clearly that bexarotene may eleventh or even reverse the happening of Alzheimer s. Since this drug is
used to treat T cell lymphoma, so it is FDA approved. This means it will be easier for therapists to
work with this drug. However, although this cancer drug worked on the mice, transform the drug for
human uses is the most difficult step in drug development process. Therefore, it is hard to say whether
bexarotene will work for treating

Tolson (Denzel Washington). The film is directed by Denzel Washington and stars Washington, Forest
Whitaker, Denzel Whitaker, Nate Parker, Jurnee Smollett and Kimberly Elise. The film was produced
by Ophra Winfrey and her production company, Harpo production. The script was written by Robert

Lowe (Nate Parker), Hamilton Burgess (Jermaine Williams) and a 14 year old James Farmer, Jr.
(Denzel Whitaker). The plot goes around how Melvin Tolson coaches and tries to put his team in
equal footing as the whites during the 1930s. Melvin Tolson believed in the power of words. He was a
brilliant coach who uses words to shape the group of students. Professor Tolsons teaching methods
and his political views were radical, however Wiley College won their first debate. The winning
continued as Wiley College was the first black American college to debate a white college. They went

Public Service Announcements Research Paper
Public service announcements have historically been used to inform and persuade audiences on a
specific subject. Numerous theories and techniques have been used to accomplish this. As television
and film have evolved over time and spread to more diverse audiences, the subject matter and
techniques have also evolved. The environmental movement did not truly form until the mid 1900s;
therefore, information on environmentally themed public service announcements are limited.
However, the PSAs that have been created took place in more modern era; thus, having greater

Summary Of Racism In Once Upon A Time
Pierre Berton once said Racism is a refuge for the ignorant. This relates to the story Once upon a time
by showing how the couple in the short story portray uneasiness while giving into fear letting it create
their limitations and blinding them from seeing that they were building their own cage still constantly
trying to upgrade security leading themselves to loss of their son. In Once upon a time , Nadine
Gordimer utilities characterization and diction to reveal the complexity of fear and racial
discrimination and illustrates that one can t have a happy ending if he/she is too busy worrying about
what could possibly destroy it.
In Once Upon a Time , Gordimer utilities characterization by limning the fence around them as a cage
they created to illustrate how fear can undermine one s ability to take control of their thoughts and
actions and realize the true ignorance behind them. For instance, during the story the wife chose to
upgrade the security again but the husband told her that he believed the amount of security they had
was already enough. In the story, it states These people were not allowed into the suburb except as
reliable housemaids and gardeners, so there was nothing to fear, the husband told the wife. Yet she
was afraid that some day such people might come up the street and tear off the plaque YOU HAVE
BEEN WARNED and open the gates and stream in... This evidence relates to fear because of how the
couple chose to handle their illusions through callous actions. The author chose to include this because
the couple is characterized as melodramatic at this point because they re constantly upgrading their
security for the wife s growing obsession with security. The threats that motivated the wife s fixation
were the riots that were happening outside of the suburb but the robbery that happened within their
home. The wife said, She is right, let us take heed of her advice. So from every window and door in
the house where they were living happily ever after they now saw the trees and sky through bars...
This evidence illustrates how the couple delineates ignorance and commits callous actions and now
tries to place what just happened as a reason why they ve been continuously upgrading their

Shell s sustainable development strategy takes a long term and short term approach which ensures that
economics, environment and social considerations are implemented within its decision making
process (Report2010, 2010).
This report will define sustainability, give an overview of sustainability, discuss Shell s strategic
approach to sustainability, review three sustainable issues, discuss theories and models used to
evaluate Shell s response to sustainability, recommend what Shell could do to become a sustainable
business and lastly will draw its conclusion.
Definition of Sustainability
The introduction of the term sustainable into the political language came about in a report titled The
limits to growth in 1972 by the Club of Rome. Club of Rome was an international association which
consisted of scientists, business executives, public officials and scholars. Sustainable is defined by the
writers as a model of output that represents a sustainable world system which does not have a dynamic
collapse. It is able to meet the basic material requirements that are needed by the environment
(Meadows et al, 1972).
However, the term sustainability has several definitions. One, being the ability of people and
organisations to preserve the remaining natural resources and use these resources wisely in order to
sustain an environmentally healthy future. The

Why Is Oscar Wilde A Literary Critic
I was a man who stood in the symbolic relations to the art and culture of my age.
The late Victorian period saw a revolution in the spheres of art and literature. John Ruskin, Matthew
Arnold, Walter Pater and Oscar Wilde were among the most influential art and literary critics of the
mid and late Victorian period. They baffled the British opinion with their brand new stance on
literature, paintings, and sculptures. They turned criticism into a brand new form of art. Their new
theories were utterly modern and absolutely new for the period, which has come to be known as The
English Renaissance of Art. This English Renaissance of Art was defined by Oscar Wilde as: a sort of
new birth of the spirit of man, like the great Italian Renaissance ... Show more content on

One critic complained about Wilde s Pen, Pencil and Poison and wrote, that the joke had gone far
enough. Other reviewers wished that Wilde would get on with thought itself, and dropped his showy
paradoxes in order to devote himself to writing something more solid and reasonable. Wilde s
Intentions according to Lawrence Danson: shows the ability to gather up fragments, to call and reply
to simultaneously themselves and others like the stringed lute on which all winds can play or the twice
written scroll of his poem Hélas . Intentions shows the depth of Oscar Wilde s reading of literature and
knowledge of previous critical writings. But as Jonathan Freedman s introduction to A collection of
Critical Essays shows, Wilde s criticism was long left unstudied, as it was thought to be too
flamboyant. His criticism was overshadowed by his personal life: Ass thete or aesthete, gay saint or
poéte maudit. Those were the roles Wilde played in the classrooms and criticism for most of the
twentieth century. Freedman goes on to say that: only a few serious accounts of his work could be
found, particularly in the later days of new criticism; but it was largely for his flamboyant life and
exhibit of decadence that Wilde was considered. The interest in Oscar Wilde s critical writings is quite
recent and a few

Medical Care Fraud And Abuse
For the most part, physicians make every effort to work ethically, deliver high quality medical care to
their patients and send relevant claims for disbursement. The general public put their trust in
physicians to do the moral thing. The patients depend on physicians to use their expertise to put them
on the road to recovery when their health is most vulnerable. The federal government and other third
party payers also rely on physician s medical decisions to treat and provide services that appropriate
for the services that rendered. When the physicians and other medical related facilities submit claims
the government expects them to submit physicians and hospitals reimbursing claims for services
provided to program recipients, the federal government relies on physicians to submit correct and
legitimate claims. The medical providers that are deceitful and exploit the health care system for
unlawful purposes have formed the need for laws that combat fraud, abuse and guarantee high quality
medical care.

Importance Of The Right To Bear Arms
One American Ideal that is essential to our Democracy is the right to bear arms. This principle comes
from the Second Amendment, which states, A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of
a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed. This is one of the
most important right because it keeps the government from becoming a dictatorship or tyranny. With
this right the people of the United States have the right to protect themselves. This amendment, keeps
the government from taking our rights because we can revolt. Throughout history people have gone
through times of being unarmed when the government or a higher power is trying to take over. The
example is during the American Revolution when

Nobody Identity
The character Nobody, is perhaps the most highly intelligible representation of a native American of
any western films. Nobody was rejected by his own native culture and adopting the name given to him
which means He who talks too much says nothing summing up the false capitalistic activity of the
Western culture (Petković 2011, p 10). Nobody s decision to rename himself demonstrates that he is
cognizant that he is not identical with his socially assigned identity. (J, McMahon). Although he
resembles an Indian, he is well educated and speaks English very well, due to being schooled by white
English speaking men which transcends traditional stereotypes. Jarmusch doesn t try to simplify the

Painter and writer Henri Michaux (1899 1983) who s work has become The source of a number of
visual motifs and plot turns (Suarez, 2007, 106). Much like Jarmusch his work is associated with
surrealism. Michaux s words are quoted in the epigraph of the opening titles that It s preferable not to

the first sketch of the series, he wakes up repeatedly during the night to confront a number of disasters
and unable to deal with them, he just falls asleep again (Suarez 2007, 106). Blake spends the course of
the film slipping in and out of consciousness presumably due to a number of health factors such as his
wound, lack of sleep and food. One scene which reflects his work is the scene of Nobody performing
a ritual on Blake during the night while Blake is unconscious. In Nobody s trance like state the camera
shows Blake s face is double exposed with the image of a skull (figure 1). This is a reference to
Michaux s painting The Prince of Night of which depicts a figure with a skull like face sitting on a

BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! I am pushed out of my blissful dream and pulled into reality, my eyes don t

percent of teens are sleep deprived and I am one of them. Starting school about an hour later has many
benefits as shown in hundreds of schools around the country. Some of these benefits include: students
feeling more awake, better test scores, better attention spans and improved health. Changing school

Stereotypes Of Being Stereotypes
Ster·e·o·type ˈsterēəˌtīp/noun: A widely held but fixed and oversimplified image or idea of a particular
type of person or thing. I think stereotypes are a crude assumption on people. Everyone deserves to be
their own self and release the image they want others to perceive. Stereotypes disregard the individual
person as a whole. I ve been stereotyped before, it happens so often I find myself making fun of the
things I do that classify with the stereotype. I even *cringe accept the stereotypes people give me,
even if they re not true about me.
A time I ve been stereotyped is in academics. I m Asian, Chinese to be exact. And being Asian you
have a big reputation to uphold. Everyone expects you to be smart and excel above other students.
Especially in Math and Science, the subjects I struggle with and I m the least fond of. Writing is one
of my favorite hobbies to participate in, yet people think I m bad at English. I don t peak another
language than English. Or they tell me to go back to China... I ve never been outside of America,

It s the way many people are raised. We don t always stereotype by race. I tend to stereotype but outfit
selection. I would categorize different people into different groups. I try to stop myself from doing that
and it s something I need to grow on. One way I believe will help on on stopping the stereotype is
forming a relationship with individuals. It can help us know the person thoroughly and we could
possibly say Wow, I never knew that about you! It helps learning the individual, that way we can push
the stereotypes away as they become irevelent. When we indicate ourselves stereotyping we should
think about how we felt when someone stereotyped us. Creating a habit of correcting our label

The Loss Of Lesbian Identity
The fear of the disappearance of Lesbian identity is not a new one; Lesbianism has a history of being
ignored. In Compulsory Heterosexuality and Lesbian Existence, author Adrienne Rich contends that
through the lens of Compulsory Heterosexuality, Lesbianism is deemed either Abhorrent or rendered
invisible (Rich, 632). While inclusion and cohesion are necessary for minority groups to gain political
clout and recognition, the lack of spaces distinctly for Lesbians has always been sparse. Grouped in
with Gay men, Lesbians lacked a solid political identity without their male counterparts. Lesbians
have historically been deprived of a political existence through inclusion as female versions of male
homosexuality. To equate lesbian existence ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lesbians, like Gay men, Bisexuals, and Trans individuals, deserve unique spaces to discuss issues
exclusive to them. The advancement of Queer identity and the preservation of Lesbian identity do not
need to be mutually exclusive. By is establishing more exclusive spaces for some groups, as well as
more spaces open to all LGBTQ participants, both communities can thrive, However, unlike these
groups which have had an increase in established safe spaces, Lesbian spaces are being either queered
or shut down. This means Lesbians have no places to call their own, or to strengthen their identities.
Lesbian has become a symbol of regressive and exclusionary attitudes; while solidarity between
Lesbians and the Trans community is imperative, Lesbians are entitled to safe spaces and the
autonomy to reject any sexual contact they do not wish to engage in without fear of being deemed
bigoted in response. These conditions, coupled with the negative connotations of Lesbianism, are not
entirely new. Rather, they are the same threats Lesbianism has always encountered in a different
cultural context. These conditions have played a significant role in the weakening of Lesbian identity.
The loss of Lesbian identity and erasure of Lesbian history would be detrimental to the entire LGBTQ
community, as Lesbians have a rich and unique history, as well as standing in solidarity with other
community members. Though it is on the decline, Lesbian identity will not die until those with
exclusive same sex or same gender attraction stop finding solace with the term. As many women
continue to identify with lesbianism, these women deserve to be adequately

Why Do School Lunches Be Banned From Schools
Today one in five school aged children (ages 6 19) have obesity and people debate over how to
decrease this number and prevent it from being more of an issue in the future. School lunches are
often brought up in this discussion, some say that by getting rid of all junk food in schools would help
decrease the number of obese students and prevent them in future by providing only healthy food
options. On the other hand, they say that it s not that simple, the problems are at home and that getting
rid of these items could decrease revenues for school activities from those products.
Many people believe that junk food should be banned from schools across the nation. In fact, Carol
Duh Leong who was once on the board of Doctors of America found that, a slight reduction of as little
as 100 calories a day, for example from the removal of soda from children s diets could result in
weight loss. By getting rid of soda machines in schools ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They say child obesity is not the fault of school lunches, school meals are only consumed once a day,
meaning that the majority of meals are being eating at home and this makes what kids eat the
responsibility of the parents (Metallo). They feel that because more meals are consumed at home, they
effect on their weight is happening at home more than it is at school so it is the fault of the the child s
parents for their unhealthy habits. Another reason why people think they should not need to ban junk
food from schools is, schools that have began to get rid of vending machines have lost thousands of
dollars and found, funding things like athletics and schools activities became increasingly hard to pay
for (Rosenthal). In other words, vending machine revenues are often used for funding school
activities, if they were to be taken out of schools they would cause schools to lose fundings because
the contents of most vending machines are junk

Cultural intensity is the degree to which members of a unit accept the norms, values, or other culture

A Study On Cancer And Cancer
Introduction
Cancer is defined as diseases that have abnormal growth of cells, and they can invade to other tissues
and affect other part of the body ( http://www.who.int/mediacentre/factsheets/fs297/en/). The genes in
a cancer cell that are used to regulate cell growth and differentiation have been mutated, and lead to
uncontrollable cell growth. After a period of growth, the proliferation of those abnormal cells form a
tumor (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cancer#cite_note WHO2014 1).
Currently, over one hundred difference cancers exist (https://www.cancer.gov/about
cancer/understanding/what is cancer#types of cancer). A majority of them are caused by
environmental factors, while small number of them is cause by inherited genetics. Typical
environmental factors are tobacco smoking, diet and obesity, infection, radiation, etc.
(https://www.cancer.gov/about cancer/understanding/what is cancer#types of cancer).
People have been working for years to find new ways and modify traditional methods of curing
cancer. Although people have been making great progress during these years, there are still great
barriers that make cancer one of the top killers in the U.S. One out of four deaths in the United States
is cause by cancer. Today, there are 1.6 million cancer cases in the United States and it is expected to
increase 45% by 2030 (CNN).

American Musician, Prince
Prince, also known as Jamie Starr, Alexander Nevermind, The Purple One and Joey Coco, among
others, is an American musician whose career has spanned over three decades from the 1970s. His
ever changing, androgynous style and the innovative and creative approach with which he takes on
musical ventures have helped in him selling millions of albums worldwide and still allows him to have
his stake in the rock, funk and R B genres today.
Prince, born Prince Rogers Nelson, was born in the city of Minneapolis, Minnesota, on June 7th 1958.
He was born into a musical family as his parents Mattie Shaw and John L. Nelson were both
musicians. Prince was named after the Prince Roger Trio which was led by his jazz pianist father,
John, and often featured his mother, Mattie, as a jazz singer (GUINESS, 1989). Prince s father
encouraged him and his younger sister, Tika, to take an interest in music from a young age, which led
to Prince teaching himself how to play the piano and writing his first composition at the age of seven.
As a child, Prince was often bullied in school and became a recluse. As a result, he turned to music as
a source of refuge and started writing some of his own music but he never considered music as a
career until he saw James Brown live for the first time when he was 10 years old (GUINESS, 1989).
Because of his parents separation in 1970, Prince moved away from his home with his mother and
stepfather and went to live with his father before drifting off to live

Genetically Vigorous Populations
Biodiversity is life s variety. It is the varying genetics that each species carries that makes it different
and unique . Biodiversity is important, not only in evolution, but in survival; when sometimes those
terms can mean the very same thing. Interestingly, biodiversity can mean a variance in the life itself or
within the genetics of a species. In keeping breeding habits within the same lineage, some animals risk
lower biodiversity and sometimes even deformities and disease, as they are able to more easily pass on
unfavorable hereditary traits. In increasing the overall biodiversity, the only risk is a ... Show more

Species possibly saved as a result of population management include the Koala, Partula snails, and
Sarracenia alabamensis. The koala was experiencing a population decline in Australia which prompted
an initiative known as the Koala Habitat Program. The goal of this program is to increase the size of
the habitat for the koala. The Queensland Government has provided $22.5 million in funding to
acquire new land (Queensland Government, 2014). The Partula snail is another species very critically
endangered. As this species population recovers in captivity, the hope is to release them into the wild.
This process has to be done carefully after the African land snail was imported to a small island in the
Pacific and soon got out of control. This snail was eating the crops that grow on the island. Eventually,
a second species of snail, the Florida rosy wolfsnail, was brought in to prey on the Partula snail to get
the population under control (Marwell Wildlife, 2014). The Sarracenia Alabamensis, also known as
the Cane brake pitcher plant, was in need of a program to stabilize its population. This plant was
endangered because it was located in areas where land was cheap to acquire and when the land was
developed, it reduced the number of plants. The first program

Sn1 Sn2 Reactions
Experiment 15 amp; 16: Preparation of 1 bromobutane, an SN2 reaction Preparation of 2 chloro 2
methylbutane, an SN1 reaction Introduction The purpose of this experiment is to synthesize 1
bromobutane from 1 butanol and sodium bromide. In order for this reaction to reach completion there
are four major operations that need to be performed. The four major operations include refluxing,
simple distillation, separation, and drying. To begin, in order for the compounds to react they will be
dissolved in water and sulfuric acid will be added. The addition of sulfuric acid will then generate
hydrobromic acid, an important product in the reaction mixture. The hydrobromic acid will react with
the 1 butanol when heat is added to the flask ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At this point the flask was attached to a refluxing apparatus. This process of refluxing helps to purify
the mixture and keep the reaction at a constant temperature. Also, before the reaction mixture began to
boil the separation of a clear top layer and a cloudy bottom layer helped to indicate that the reaction
was working properly. The top layer was the alkyl bromide since the other components of the aqueous
layer have the greater density. After the 45 minute refluxing process was complete, the apparatus was
set up for simple distillation apparatus distillation commenced. Distillation took place until no more
drops of product were dripping from the distillation head. The first drop of distillate occurred when
the thermometer read 75°C, the actual temperature was probably a bit higher since the vapors might
not have fully reached the bulb of the thermometer. The final drop of distillate was collected at about
115°C. Once the distillate was collected, it was placed in a seperatory funnel and the reaction flask
was rinsed with 10 mL of water and added to the seperatory funnel. Rinsing the funnel ensured that all
of the distillate from the distillation process was removed from the reaction flask and no product was
left on the walls of the flask. After the water was added, two layers formed in the funnel. The top layer
was the water and the bottom layer was the 1 bromobutane since the density of 1 bromobutane is
higher than that of water.

Lee Ward Case Summary
Case 9.12 describes the actions of Lee Ward at a work conference. Lee Ward was not liked by many
colleagues and spent much of his time finding ways to cause problems for them. He was a jealous man
and felt that it was necessary to embarrass his co workers. While at a conference, he found himself in
a position that allowed him to take photographs of a group outing. His excuse was that the photos
would be used for the company s newsletter. He was also taking personal photos of a female co
worker named Janice without anyone s knowledge. Janice found out about the photos a while after
they were taken. Lee Ward personally admitted to taking them when running into Janice, who was at a

He has the freedom of expression, allowing him to photograph whatever he wishes. However, he is
not allowed to infringe on another s right to privacy or violate any trespassing laws. In case 9.12 he
violated neither law. The right to privacy refers to a person s personal information being made known
(Gerdelman, 2014). Ward s photography did not infringe on Janice s personal matters. The
photographs were taken on public property, so no trespassing laws were violated. It also appears that
Lee Ward s motives did not benefit anyone. The photographs were merely taken out of the personal
enjoyment of making someone uncomfortable. No good could come out of taking the photographs.
Lee Ward s actions were for personal gain and his intentions were not good in nature. This allows us
to conclude that his decision to take the photographs was unethical. Janice broke no rules in the case.
She also did nothing to solve the issue at hand. She made the decision to drop the problem because of
her fear that there would be repercussions. She knew more about Ward than Errol did and felt that if
either of them did anything, it would result in Ward acting out again. Ultimately causing even more

The Emotional Development Of Young Children
The emotional development in young children plays a very important role throughout their lives
especially in their education. From birth to about eight years of age, children are learning the meaning
behind each emotion and how to appropriately use them to express themselves. Erik Erikson,
psychologist, created an 8 socioemotional stage development theory explaining what skills were being
developed at certain ages. Parental monitoring is important during childhood to determine their
emotional progress to catch any delays or disabilities developing. Positive nurturing will create a more
positive outcome in their education. Also how the effects of bullying and child maltreatment can lead
to an poor outcome in your child s educational success. Erik Erikson, a German psychologist created
an eight stage socioemotional development theory about early childhood development. Each stage
shows what emotions and characteristics are being developed during each age of a child s life. Stage 1,
trust vs mistrust; occurs from infancy to 2 years of age. As a baby you must learn to trust that your
mother or caregiver will feed and take care of you until you are able to do so yourself. Stage 2,
autonomy vs shame; usually occurs between 18 months to 2 years and 3 and a half to 4 years of age.
Stage 3 is initiative vs guilt; occurs around 3 and a half years of age. Stage 4 is industry vs inferiority

Heroic Actions In The Odyssey
In the Odyssey, Odysseus is portrayed as an hero after the Trojan war, however, he showed signs of
villainous acts throughout the story that were overshadowed by his, questionably, heroic actions. An
example would be when he fought the cyclops, Polyphemus. Instead of leaving peacefully, he let his
anger cloud his vision and taunted the giant by saying O Cyclops! Would you feast on my
companions? Puny am I in Caveman s hands? How do you like the beating that we gave, you damned
cannibal! Eater of guess under your roof! Zeus and the gods have paid you! (Odyssey, P.g 383) Due to
his taunt, his boat was washed back on shore. Even after his crewmates warned for him to stop, he
continued and told the cyclops who he was and where he was from. When

Understanding Of Terrestrial And Cosmological History Essay
While I did approach Big History: Connecting Knowledge with an intent to gain a greater
transdisciplinary understanding of terrestrial and cosmological history, in retrospect I can see that I
have more so gained from the critical thinking aspects of the course and in particular the four claim
tester tools: (1) Intuition, (2) authority, (3) logic, (4) evidence. As Jenny Duke Yonge comments in her
lecture segment How do we decide what to believe? in which she introduces the claim tester tools:
Even our best scientific theories are subject to revision in the light of new evidence. So, although what
you re being presented with here is the best scientific knowledge we have now, it may turn out that
some of it s false. It s very likely to turn out that it s at least incomplete. So as well as providing you
with information through the course, we want to provide you with tools to help you deal with
information effectively, to help you be selective and discerning about the kinds of things you believe.
These questions are important for us because our society is one in which we are constantly bombarded
with information from a variety of often conflicting sources. Certainly when adopting a
transdisciplinary approach and being presented with vast quantities of mind boggling and headache
inducing information, it is very easy to become seduced by knowledge that seems to offer a shortcut
and comfortable explanation, but which could in actuality be the completely wrong solution,

Is Bilingualism Be The Alternate Use Of Two Or More...
Bilingualism is considered to be the alternate use of two or more languages by the same individual
(Mackey, 1957: 51, cited in Beardsmore Baetens 1987). Recently, it has been debated among scholars,
as to whether there is a difference in emotionality in a bilingual s first language (L1) or second
language (L2). Currently, the consensus is that that L1 tends to be most emotive, especially when
expressing issues regarding childhood memories, whereas L2 tends to be more involved in encoding
unemotional topics (Dewaele, 2008). Other research (Aycicegi Dinn, Ayse Caldwell Harris, 2009)
tends to suggest there is no difference between emotional expression in L1 and L2. Despite
researchers being unable to agree, this essay will focus primarily on critically evaluating, and
discussing how negative emotion differs, in particular anger and embarrassment, in L1 and L2. It will
also briefly discuss the expression of positive emotion in bilinguals and which language is favoured.
Anooshian and Hertel (1994) found a better recall for emotion words in L1 than L2 in comparison to
neutral words. On the contrary, Ayçiçeği Harris (2004) found a greater emotional recall in L2 rather
than L1; a stronger recall was unexpectedly established in negative and taboo words, rather than
positive words in L2. This could suggest that L2 is best used by bilinguals in order to express negative
emotion, acting as barrier protecting the individual from unpleasant stimuli. The findings from

Star Spangled Banner
Many people hail The Star Spangled Banner as the greatest piece of American music. The audiences
of America s national anthem seem, instinctively, eager to express their respect by embracing the
notion to remove their hats and stand up. However, not many people ponder over the question of what
The Star Spangled Banner truly means. What does it mean? Why does it deserve so much reverence
and honor? What exceptional difference allows it to prevail over the masterpieces of prominent
composers like Mozart and Beethoven? The answer is fairly simple. The Star Spangled Banner
symbolizes America s perseverance, its set of moral laws and ethics, and its history that constitutes
what America truly means. The Star Spangled Banner ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

its freedom that require such dear efforts to attain. Furthermore, it duly illustrates the many trials
America is willing to face to create this new haven in which every person is free from persecution for
following their perception of true freedom. However, the moral and humane laws of the Americans
dictate the extension of freedom to others. Freedom, as the Americans come to believe, belongs to
everyone. The most conspicuous example of America s extending arms of compassion and equality is
the Civil War. Of course, there is no obligation for America to fight a war against itself for the welfare
of African Americans. Still, America is only abiding by its own set of ethical laws and the humanity
that the Bible dictates. In comparison, the moral cause of this war is exceptionally similar to that in
The Star Spangled Banner . Both of the conflicts involve America in an attempt to uphold its
significant values and tenets through confiding in their religion. Both of the conflicts hail a future in
which freedom shall govern this nation. Moreover, both of the conflicts prove America s traditional
values and faith apt to withstand wave after wave of bombardment without faltering. America is a
separate little haven in which no limits exist to restrict the people s religious faith or to hinder them
from following their moral laws and values. The Star

Public Sphere Within The Private Space
The concept of the mediatisation of space has allowed for an understanding of the intertwining of the
public and the private spheres. This experience of the public sphere is seen through the infusion of
symbols and representations within media forms, thus showing us the impact of changes that the
media has catalysed in our individual everyday life. The public sphere within the private space can be
seen in mediums such as Twitter, in which the representation of words and hashtags have shifted the
societal experience. Thus, this idea of mediatisation of space allows for an understanding of the value
and experience of the public in individual lives with the assistance of signs, symbols and
representations. The mediatisation of space is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, the bedroom and messaging apps are both considered privatised space, though one is
physical and the other virtual. Similarly, the park and news websites are both public space, as they are
accessible by the general community, though they differ in scale and degree of publicness. These ideas
of space are inextricably intertwined with the concept of mobility the shifting between locations and
time both linear and non linear (Green 2002, p. 282). The idea of mediatisation is slightly harder to
explain, however, as it is a concept which is an incomplete and still unfolding historical project
(Livingstone 2009, p. 6). It should be also highlighted and noted that the concept differs from that of
the term mediation. Mediation emphasises the complexity of the social space and the diversity of
transformations which arise (Couldry 2008, p. 3), exploring the impact that media has upon the
contemporary society as a whole. Thus, it focuses on examining the fundamental influence of media
on the community. Comparatively, mediatisation, as asserted by Hepp, Hjarvard and Lundby (2015),
endeavours to build a theoretical framework that will allow an examination into the role of media in
transforming social and cultural interaction, and shift communicative methods. The theory also
emphasises on the role of media and how its logics impact culture and society. Thus, whilst mediation

The Cause Of The Three Causes Of Road Accidents
Causes of road accidents.
Nearly 1.3 million people die in road crashes each year, on average 3,287 deaths a day, according to
the Association For Safe International Road Travel. Road accidents are practically dangerous for
everyone; they might cause serious injuries, severe damage and even be the reason why someone s life
is taken away from them. There can be several reasons why a car crashes. Distracted driving,
speeding, and drunk driving are the three main causes of car accidents.
The most significant cause of road crashes is the fact that people are often distracted while driving.
Each day in the United States, more than 9 people are killed and more than 1,153 people are injured in
crashes that are reported to involve a distracted driver, reports the Centers For Disease Control And
Prevention (CDC). There is a range of many diversions however; a lot of people find the temptation to
resist replying to a phone call or text extremely difficult. Without a doubt, this distraction is
threatening since cell phones can get the drivers eyes away from the road, which ... Show more

A person is considered to be speeding when they drive at a speed that exceeds the speed limit. A lot of
people think that speeding saves them loads of time but in reality, it only increases the risk for
themselves and other drivers. Unfortunately, speeding causes the worst trauma when it comes to car
collision. Driving too fast limits the time passengers have to react to a crash therefore, the injury is
usually more extreme. Also, the greater the acceleration that causes a car crash the stronger the force is
on the body. As a result, many individuals suffer immensely from those types of unfortunate incidents.

The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas Analysis
The Boy in Striped Pyjamas by John Boyne is a tragic and remarkable novel which is set in Nazi
Germany during the Second World War and tells the story of a 9 year old boy called Bruno. Bruno s
father was made the commandant of the Auschwitz concentration camp by Hitler which meant his
family had to leave their home in Berlin and move into a soldier paroled house in Auschwitz. After
Bruno does some exploring, he meets a boy the same age as him, named Shmuel who is a Jew and
lives behind a barbed wire fence. Bruno is confused why Shmuel is on the other side of the fence and
why he wears pyjamas all day. As the novel progresses, we learn that Shmuel is a prisoner of the
Auschwitz concentration camp that Bruno s father runs, but Bruno is completely oblivious to that fact.
One day, Bruno s mother heads out of Auschwitz to go run some errands, when she returns, she smells
something unpleasant and asks one of the soldiers what it is. He replies with they smell even worse
when they burn, don t they. From this, we can tell that the Nazi s believed that they would be a
stronger country without the Jews so they made a plan to burn them. During the novel, Shmuel and
Bruno bond and form a strong friendship. Shmuel one day asks Bruno to crawl under the barbed wire
fence into the concentration camp and help him find his father when it suddenly starts pouring with
rain. Bruno and Shmuel (along with many other men from the camp) are herded into a long, secure, air

The Effects Of Leadership Style On Organizational Performance
Leadership style in an organization is one of the reasons that play a major role in attracting or hold
back the commitment and interest of the individuals in the business. Therefore a manager needs to

Different researches:
Leadership style has a considerable relation with the organizational performance, and different
leadership styles may have a positive or negative link with the organizational performance. A research

Marx Point Of View On Class Conflict
According to Marx, this division between classes widens the condition of exploiting workers that
deteriorate so destructively that leads to collapse the social structure: the class struggle is changed into
proletarian revolution. The success of workers reduces basis of class division in property from public
ownership for production means (Archer, 1982, pp. 455 483). On the basis of this, the classes thus
wiped off, the classless society will arise and as the political power protects bourgeoisie from workers
is pointless, and the state and political authority will decline away (Merton, 1968, pp 56 78).
Generally there are six factors in Marx s point of view over class conflict, these includes:

Marx is supposed to have made scientific discovery in forming the concept of productive forces,

nearly impossible to deny that Marx established new perception for analysing the society s nature,
however such ideas are not appropriate with Marx s humanism. Whereas Marx never rejected the
human nature idea, but he did specify that it was both historically and socially conditioned (Saunders,

year I ve been under a lot of stress pertaining to grades, SATs, scholarships, and applications.

Rhetorical Analysis Of Handwriting Doesn t Matter
Rhetorical Analysis: Handwriting Just Doesn t Matter In recent years, the rushing tide of typing has
overwhelmed the once necessary skill of handwriting. As the days pass by computers and other 21st
century electronics are becoming more and more a part human lives. Gone are the constant needs for
pen and paper, often times all that is needed for notetaking is a laptop and working fingers. A recent
article published by Anne Trubek titled Handwriting Just Doesn t Matter analyzes the importance of
handwriting in the computerized world that is lived in today, as well as through a discussion on the
teaching of cursive and other handwriting exercises in schools. Using a mix of pathos, logos, and
minor amounts of ethos, Trubek is able to comprehensively convince her audience that handwriting is
not as important or useful a skill as it used to be. Trubek wishes to provide her audience with a
convincing argument that shows how handwriting in this time is inferior to typing on computers. In
other words, her primary purpose is to illustrate the idea of focusing on typing automaticity (the ability
to type without looking at keys) in schools over handwriting automaticity (the ability to write without
conscious effort). This is seen when Trubek explains how if ...the goal of public education is to
prepare students to become successful, employable adults, typing is inarguably more useful than
handwriting. (Trubek, 2016, para. 4) Trubek argues that if public schools are working

remains unknown, this change might accelerate the damage on cartilage resulting from sheer stress.
Therefore, extended clenching of the jaw can result in degenerative changes because of the
overloading happening over time. Sustained muscle contraction due to clenching is linked to an
increase in the sheer stress developed in the disc, which is resulted from the creep deformation caused
by disc compression. (4para) Similar to sustained clenching, in sleep bruxism at the start of movement
the highest maximum sheer stress is applied to the anterior region of disc, while the stress in this
region relax after several minutes, and instead the intermediate region bears the highest maximum
sheer stress. In sleep bruxism, the

The Search For Prosperity In Mac s In Dubious Battle
In today s world, it seems everyone is fueled to work only towards the dream of wealth. Without the
promise of payment, people will turn their back on their neighbor without a second thought and
continue on the search for prosperity. In the novel In Dubious Battle, we meet Mac, a hard working
party member doing everything in his power to help struggling laborers make the wage they were
promised before setting out for the California apple orchards. Almost immediately after the strike
begins, Mac comes to the realization that there likely is no chance of the workers winning the strike,
yet he continues to fight for his beliefs. Some may interpret this as selfish for risking the lives of these
workers, however this is undoubtedly false as Mac risks his own life alongside the other strikers. Mac
also has no financial reward for helping with the strike and is spending his time educating the workers
a valuable lesson on how to strike that will help them in the larger strike that Mac sees ominously
approaching. From the moment Mac arrives on the apple orchard, we see that he is not afraid to risk
his own life for the sake of the party. In a conversation with Jim, Mac reveals how the party is larger
than any single member, no matter how important that member may be. Mac goes on to express that
he is willing to give up his own life in the wake of a larger, nation wide strike he foresees coming very
soon. Mac expresses this idea to Jim, saying if I go out now it won t matter. The

Arizona Recycling Benefits
Recycling Benefits: Proposing A Bottle Bill for Arizona
Recycling has had a large impact in our community over the past few decades. Rather than throwing
all our trash in the garbage can, we, as a community should continue to recycle as much as possible.
Not only does it cut down on litter, it can also add to our growing economy, cut down on pollution,
and save our raw materials. Arizona currently recycles about sixty percent of its beverage containers,
and because only a handful of cities have mandatory recycling programs they are the perfect candidate
to experiment with a new recycling program (Bottle deposit 2). I propose that the state of Arizona put
a bottle bill, similar to the one in Oregon, into action. All eleven states that ... Show more content on

For example, when a customer purchases a fifty cent can of Dr. Pepper from his/her local 7 11, s/he
would end up paying fifty five cents, which would include a five cent deposit. At any time after
consuming the thirst quenching beverage, the customer may return his/her can to any store for his/her
five cent refund. This definitely provides an incentive to recycle beverage containers. In fact, in a
recent survey I conducted on my plane trip home from Thanksgiving, consumers said they often feel
they are getting back free money for recycling. Either because they think of the price of the beverage
as fifty five cents, or because they wait until they have several bottles or cans to return making their
refund much larger than the original nickel they put down. The consumers are not the only ones who
benefit because the retailers in most states also get reimbursed for the extra labor involved. This basic
form of bottle bill is effective and very useful.
The Oregon bottle bill is also beneficial. Oregon s immensely popular bottle bill has been effective in
getting soft drink and beer cans and bottles off the roadways, and boosting recycling. Much of the law
s success is due to a system that is easily understood by consumers and manageable for merchants
(Bottle deposit 1). However, a few of the other eleven states have tried to add to the basic bill making
them confusing, more time

Evaluation Of A School Psychologist With The Simi Valley...
I interviewed Dr. Linda Vandaveer, a school psychologist with the Simi Valley Unified School
District, on February 4, 2016. I saw her at Katherine Elementary School, and she also works with two
other schools in the district. I found the interview enjoyable and interesting.
At Katherine Elementary School Dr. Vandaveer has her own portable where she can test students. Her
desk is in one corner and there was a kidney shaped table with a few chairs close by. Other than a
couple filing cabinets the room was fairly sparse and the walls were bare
At student can be referred for special services by a parent, teacher, or principal. A studentstudy team is
then set up to evaluate the child. The team includes the school psychologist, who is the coordinator of
the team, the principal, the child s teacher, the special education teacher, speech specialist, upper and
lower grade teacher representatives, and the parents. The parents can also bring other people,
including a therapist.
The school psychologist then assigns individuals in the student study team to perform certain tests.
The psychologist does four hours of testing broken up over a couple of days, the speech specialist
does around two hours of testing, and the special education teacher spends around three hours testing
the child. The teacher and parents provide information about the child. The information gathered
includes intellectual function, visual motor integrations, behavior rating scales, parent and teacher
reports,

The Good And The Evil
The Good and The Evil
There is good and there is bad, I was only twelve when I figured this out the hard way. It was late
during school when an alarm went off. I was a kid what can go wrong I thought to myself as I
foolishly opened a door we were clearly prohibited to open because of a gun man near our school.
This very action lead the school to expel me and this would change my life for the good. Although my
bad decisions helped me know better, it s the bad that lead these three myths to suffer long life
consequences that ultimately explain why the earth is why it is today. These three myths show the
struggles and obstacles the Hebrew, Cherokee, and Maori people had to overcome because of their
vicious ways and or their actions under certain obstacles that challenged the people of these myths. In
the Yahweh myth the author communicates In the garden was a snake, and the snake persuaded the
women that she could eat the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil without dying...She ate
the fruit, and gave some to the man too. (Creation Story World 33). Therefore, the snake making this
bad decision, led to Yahweh cursing the snake shouting, you will be cursed by crawling your whole
life and the women s children will eat you, the women being Eve, whom he had beguiled into eating
from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. But not only was the snake cursed, Adam and Eve were
also cursed. Yahweh told Eve that she would be cured to suffer the pain of childbirth and

Safety Of Non Invasive Bp Monitoring System
Safety of non invasive BP monitoring System The BP monitoring system proposed in this paper will
comprise predominantly of three sensors and a focal facilitator; two PPG sensors, one on the ear flap,
another on the fingertips, with a temperature sensor and the focal organizer, in this manner shaping a
star network topology. The advantage of the star network is that a sensor can be just replaced without
the need to supplant the whole system when the sensor has blunders, so it is anything but difficult to
distinguish blames and to expel parts. A star network can likewise be effectively extended with more
sensors, similar to ECG, EEG sensors, to enhance the execution of the whole medical monitoring
system. The fact that the sensors are connected and powered by the central coordinator helps to reduce
the size of the sensors. The use of micro sensors and microprocessor in the coordinator will make a
wearable body sensor network possible, and which will not affect the patient s daily life. The two PPG
sensors will collect the pulse information and will sent the data individually via wire transmission to
the central coordinator. The PTT, with the temperature data collected by the temperature sensor, as
well as other predetermined information, such as body temperature, age, gender, BMI etc. will be
gathered and stored in the coordinator to compute the instant BP value. The wire transmission between
sensors and coordinator ensures a safe, stable and rapid data transmission. In the

Summary Of The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe
A society s myths and legends are much more than stories. They represent the values, fears, hopes, and
rules at the core of that culture. Due to the significance and complexity of morality and societal
expectations, these lessons of life are taught to children in the form of symbolic stories much like
fairytales. In his book The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, C.S. Lewis manages to encompass the
incredibly complex concepts of the Christian ideology, such as sin and redemption into a fairytale like
story. Using symbols and metaphor, Lewis creates the fantastic world of Narnia with just enough
parallels that his young audience is able to appreciate the Atonement and nature of Christ in a format
they understand.
In the Mormon church, the Spirit is often described as a burning in one s bosom (D C 9:8). Burning
does not sound very pleasant, it is reminiscent of the symptoms of a heart attack. Lewis compares
these feelings of the Spirit to something from a child s experience. When the Pevensies hear about
Aslan, they felt as if it had come from a dream with enormous meaning, simultaneously terrifying and
too lovely to put into words...so beautiful that you remember it all your life (68). Good and bad
dreams are something that kids have experience with. Because Edmund was poisoned by sin, the
mention of Aslan gave him a sensation of mysterious horror rather than a good feeling (68). This
explains the feelings of guilt one feels after doing something wrong, especially in

  • 5. Summary Of Racism In Once Upon A Time Pierre Berton once said Racism is a refuge for the ignorant. This relates to the story Once upon a time by showing how the couple in the short story portray uneasiness while giving into fear letting it create their limitations and blinding them from seeing that they were building their own cage still constantly trying to upgrade security leading themselves to loss of their son. In Once upon a time , Nadine Gordimer utilities characterization and diction to reveal the complexity of fear and racial discrimination and illustrates that one can t have a happy ending if he/she is too busy worrying about what could possibly destroy it. In Once Upon a Time , Gordimer utilities characterization by limning the fence around them as a cage they created to illustrate how fear can undermine one s ability to take control of their thoughts and actions and realize the true ignorance behind them. For instance, during the story the wife chose to upgrade the security again but the husband told her that he believed the amount of security they had was already enough. In the story, it states These people were not allowed into the suburb except as reliable housemaids and gardeners, so there was nothing to fear, the husband told the wife. Yet she was afraid that some day such people might come up the street and tear off the plaque YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED and open the gates and stream in... This evidence relates to fear because of how the couple chose to handle their illusions through callous actions. The author chose to include this because the couple is characterized as melodramatic at this point because they re constantly upgrading their security for the wife s growing obsession with security. The threats that motivated the wife s fixation were the riots that were happening outside of the suburb but the robbery that happened within their home. The wife said, She is right, let us take heed of her advice. So from every window and door in the house where they were living happily ever after they now saw the trees and sky through bars... This evidence illustrates how the couple delineates ignorance and commits callous actions and now tries to place what just happened as a reason why they ve been continuously upgrading their ... The late Victorian period saw a revolution in the spheres of art and literature. John Ruskin, Matthew Arnold, Walter Pater and Oscar Wilde were among the most influential art and literary critics of the mid and late Victorian period. They baffled the British opinion with their brand new stance on literature, paintings, and sculptures. They turned criticism into a brand new form of art. Their new theories were utterly modern and absolutely new for the period, which has come to be known as The English Renaissance of Art. Intentions shows the depth of Oscar Wilde s reading of literature and knowledge of previous critical writings. But as Jonathan Freedman s introduction to A collection of Critical Essays shows, Wilde s criticism was long left unstudied, as it was thought to be too flamboyant. His criticism was overshadowed by his personal life: Ass thete or aesthete, gay saint or poéte maudit. Those were the roles Wilde played in the classrooms and criticism for most of the twentieth century. Freedman goes on to say that: only a few serious accounts of his work could be found, particularly in the later days of new criticism; but it was largely for his flamboyant life and exhibit of decadence that Wilde was considered. Prince s father encouraged him and his younger sister, Tika, to take an interest in music from a young age, which led to Prince teaching himself how to play the piano and writing his first composition at the age of seven. As a child, Prince was often bullied in school and became a recluse. As a result, he turned to music as a source of refuge and started writing some of his own music but he never considered music as a career until he saw James Brown live for the first time when he was 10 years old (GUINESS, 1989). It is the varying genetics that each species carries that makes it different and unique . Biodiversity is important, not only in evolution, but in survival; when sometimes those terms can mean the very same thing. Interestingly, biodiversity can mean a variance in the life itself or within the genetics of a species. In keeping breeding habits within the same lineage, some animals risk lower biodiversity and sometimes even deformities and disease, as they are able to more easily pass on unfavorable hereditary traits. In increasing the overall biodiversity, the only risk is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Species possibly saved as a result of population management include the Koala, Partula snails, and Sarracenia alabamensis. The koala was experiencing a population decline in Australia which prompted an initiative known as the Koala Habitat Program. The goal of this program is to increase the size of the habitat for the koala. The Queensland Government has provided $22.5 million in funding to acquire new land (Queensland Government, 2014). The Partula snail is another species very critically endangered. As this species population recovers in captivity, the hope is to release them into the wild. This process has to be done carefully after the African land snail was imported to a small island in the Pacific and soon got out of control. This snail was eating the crops that grow on the island. Eventually, a second species of snail, the Florida rosy wolfsnail, was brought in to prey on the Partula snail to get the population under control (Marwell Wildlife, 2014). The Sarracenia Alabamensis, also known as the Cane brake pitcher plant, was in need of a program to stabilize its population. This plant was endangered because it was located in areas where land was cheap to acquire and when the land was developed, it reduced the number of plants. The first program ... Sn1 Sn2 Reactions Experiment 15 amp; 16: Preparation of 1 bromobutane, an SN2 reaction Preparation of 2 chloro 2 methylbutane, an SN1 reaction Introduction The purpose of this experiment is to synthesize 1 bromobutane from 1 butanol and sodium bromide. In order for this reaction to reach completion there are four major operations that need to be performed. The four major operations include refluxing, simple distillation, separation, and drying. To begin, in order for the compounds to react they will be dissolved in water and sulfuric acid will be added. The addition of sulfuric acid will then generate hydrobromic acid, an important product in the reaction mixture. The hydrobromic acid will react with the 1 butanol when heat is added to the flask ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At this point the flask was attached to a refluxing apparatus. This process of refluxing helps to purify the mixture and keep the reaction at a constant temperature. Also, before the reaction mixture began to boil the separation of a clear top layer and a cloudy bottom layer helped to indicate that the reaction was working properly. The top layer was the alkyl bromide since the other components of the aqueous layer have the greater density. After the 45 minute refluxing process was complete, the apparatus was set up for simple distillation apparatus distillation commenced. Distillation took place until no more drops of product were dripping from the distillation head. The first drop of distillate occurred when the thermometer read 75°C, the actual temperature was probably a bit higher since the vapors might not have fully reached the bulb of the thermometer. The final drop of distillate was collected at about 115°C. Once the distillate was collected, it was placed in a seperatory funnel and the reaction flask was rinsed with 10 mL of water and added to the seperatory funnel. Rinsing the funnel ensured that all of the distillate from the distillation process was removed from the reaction flask and no product was left on the walls of the flask. After the water was added, two layers formed in the funnel. The top layer was the water and the bottom layer was the 1 bromobutane since the density of 1 bromobutane is higher than that of water. ... Lee Ward was not liked by many colleagues and spent much of his time finding ways to cause problems for them. He was a jealous man and felt that it was necessary to embarrass his co workers. While at a conference, he found himself in a position that allowed him to take photographs of a group outing. His excuse was that the photos would be used for the company s newsletter. Ward s photography did not infringe on Janice s personal matters. The photographs were taken on public property, so no trespassing laws were violated. It also appears that Lee Ward s motives did not benefit anyone. The photographs were merely taken out of the personal enjoyment of making someone uncomfortable. No good could come out of taking the photographs. Lee Ward s actions were for personal gain and his intentions were not good in nature. This allows us to conclude that his decision to take the photographs was unethical. Janice broke no rules in the case. She also did nothing to solve the issue at hand. From birth to about eight years of age, children are learning the meaning behind each emotion and how to appropriately use them to express themselves. Erik Erikson, psychologist, created an 8 socioemotional stage development theory explaining what skills were being developed at certain ages. Parental monitoring is important during childhood to determine their emotional progress to catch any delays or disabilities developing. Positive nurturing will create a more positive outcome in their education. Also how the effects of bullying and child maltreatment can lead to an poor outcome in your child s educational success. Erik Erikson, a German psychologist created an eight stage socioemotional development theory about early childhood development. Each stage shows what emotions and characteristics are being developed during each age of a child s life. Stage 1, trust vs mistrust; occurs from infancy to 2 years of age. As a baby you must learn to trust that your mother or caregiver will feed and take care of you until you are able to do so yourself. Stage 2, autonomy vs shame; usually occurs between 18 months to 2 years and 3 and a half to 4 years of age. Stage 3 is initiative vs guilt; occurs around 3 and a half years of age. As Jenny Duke Yonge comments in her lecture segment How do we decide what to believe? in which she introduces the claim tester tools: Even our best scientific theories are subject to revision in the light of new evidence. These questions are important for us because our society is one in which we are constantly bombarded with information from a variety of often conflicting sources. • 32. Is Bilingualism Be The Alternate Use Of Two Or More... Bilingualism is considered to be the alternate use of two or more languages by the same individual (Mackey, 1957: 51, cited in Beardsmore Baetens 1987). Recently, it has been debated among scholars, as to whether there is a difference in emotionality in a bilingual s first language (L1) or second language (L2). Currently, the consensus is that that L1 tends to be most emotive, especially when expressing issues regarding childhood memories, whereas L2 tends to be more involved in encoding unemotional topics (Dewaele, 2008). Other research (Aycicegi Dinn, Ayse Caldwell Harris, 2009) tends to suggest there is no difference between emotional expression in L1 and L2. Despite researchers being unable to agree, this essay will focus primarily on critically evaluating, and discussing how negative emotion differs, in particular anger and embarrassment, in L1 and L2. It will also briefly discuss the expression of positive emotion in bilinguals and which language is favoured. Anooshian and Hertel (1994) found a better recall for emotion words in L1 than L2 in comparison to neutral words. On the contrary, AyçiçeÄŸi Harris (2004) found a greater emotional recall in L2 rather than L1; a stronger recall was unexpectedly established in negative and taboo words, rather than positive words in L2. This could suggest that L2 is best used by bilinguals in order to express negative emotion, acting as barrier protecting the individual from unpleasant stimuli. The findings from AyçiçeÄŸi ... However, the moral and humane laws of the Americans dictate the extension of freedom to others. Freedom, as the Americans come to believe, belongs to everyone. The most conspicuous example of America s extending arms of compassion and equality is the Civil War. Of course, there is no obligation for America to fight a war against itself for the welfare of African Americans. Similarly, the park and news websites are both public space, as they are accessible by the general community, though they differ in scale and degree of publicness. These ideas of space are inextricably intertwined with the concept of mobility the shifting between locations and time both linear and non linear (Green 2002, p. 282). The idea of mediatisation is slightly harder to explain, however, as it is a concept which is an incomplete and still unfolding historical project (Livingstone 2009, p. 6). It should be also highlighted and noted that the concept differs from that of the term mediation. Mediation emphasises the complexity of the social space and the diversity of transformations which arise (Couldry 2008, p. 3), exploring the impact that media has upon the contemporary society as a whole. Thus, it focuses on examining the fundamental influence of media on the community. Comparatively, mediatisation, as asserted by Hepp, Hjarvard and Lundby (2015), endeavours to build a theoretical framework that will allow an examination into the role of media in transforming social and cultural interaction, and shift communicative methods. Rhetorical Analysis Of Handwriting Doesn t Matter Rhetorical Analysis: Handwriting Just Doesn t Matter In recent years, the rushing tide of typing has overwhelmed the once necessary skill of handwriting. As the days pass by computers and other 21st century electronics are becoming more and more a part human lives. Gone are the constant needs for pen and paper, often times all that is needed for notetaking is a laptop and working fingers. A recent article published by Anne Trubek titled Handwriting Just Doesn t Matter analyzes the importance of handwriting in the computerized world that is lived in today, as well as through a discussion on the teaching of cursive and other handwriting exercises in schools. Using a mix of pathos, logos, and minor amounts of ethos, Trubek is able to comprehensively convince her audience that handwriting is not as important or useful a skill as it used to be. Trubek wishes to provide her audience with a convincing argument that shows how handwriting in this time is inferior to typing on computers. • 45. Arizona Recycling Benefits Recycling Benefits: Proposing A Bottle Bill for Arizona Recycling has had a large impact in our community over the past few decades. Rather than throwing all our trash in the garbage can, we, as a community should continue to recycle as much as possible. Not only does it cut down on litter, it can also add to our growing economy, cut down on pollution, and save our raw materials. Arizona currently recycles about sixty percent of its beverage containers, and because only a handful of cities have mandatory recycling programs they are the perfect candidate to experiment with a new recycling program (Bottle deposit 2). I propose that the state of Arizona put a bottle bill, similar to the one in Oregon, into action. All eleven states that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, when a customer purchases a fifty cent can of Dr. Pepper from his/her local 7 11, s/he would end up paying fifty five cents, which would include a five cent deposit. At any time after consuming the thirst quenching beverage, the customer may return his/her can to any store for his/her five cent refund. This definitely provides an incentive to recycle beverage containers. In fact, in a recent survey I conducted on my plane trip home from Thanksgiving, consumers said they often feel they are getting back free money for recycling. Either because they think of the price of the beverage as fifty five cents, or because they wait until they have several bottles or cans to return making their refund much larger than the original nickel they put down. The consumers are not the only ones who benefit because the retailers in most states also get reimbursed for the extra labor involved. This basic form of bottle bill is effective and very useful. The Oregon bottle bill is also beneficial. Oregon s immensely popular bottle bill has been effective in getting soft drink and beer cans and bottles off the roadways, and boosting recycling. Much of the law s success is due to a system that is easily understood by consumers and manageable for merchants (Bottle deposit 1). However, a few of the other eleven states have tried to add to the basic bill making them confusing, more time ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Evaluation Of A School Psychologist With The Simi Valley... I interviewed Dr. Linda Vandaveer, a school psychologist with the Simi Valley Unified School District, on February 4, 2016. I saw her at Katherine Elementary School, and she also works with two other schools in the district. I found the interview enjoyable and interesting. At Katherine Elementary School Dr. Vandaveer has her own portable where she can test students. Her desk is in one corner and there was a kidney shaped table with a few chairs close by. Other than a couple filing cabinets the room was fairly sparse and the walls were bare At student can be referred for special services by a parent, teacher, or principal. A studentstudy team is then set up to evaluate the child. The team includes the school psychologist, who is the coordinator of the team, the principal, the child s teacher, the special education teacher, speech specialist, upper and lower grade teacher representatives, and the parents. The parents can also bring other people, including a therapist. The school psychologist then assigns individuals in the student study team to perform certain tests. The psychologist does four hours of testing broken up over a couple of days, the speech specialist does around two hours of testing, and the special education teacher spends around three hours testing the child. The teacher and parents provide information about the child. The information gathered includes intellectual function, visual motor integrations, behavior rating scales, parent and teacher reports, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. The Good And The Evil The Good and The Evil There is good and there is bad, I was only twelve when I figured this out the hard way. It was late during school when an alarm went off. I was a kid what can go wrong I thought to myself as I foolishly opened a door we were clearly prohibited to open because of a gun man near our school. This very action lead the school to expel me and this would change my life for the good. Although my bad decisions helped me know better, it s the bad that lead these three myths to suffer long life consequences that ultimately explain why the earth is why it is today. These three myths show the struggles and obstacles the Hebrew, Cherokee, and Maori people had to overcome because of their vicious ways and or their actions under certain obstacles that challenged the people of these myths. In the Yahweh myth the author communicates In the garden was a snake, and the snake persuaded the women that she could eat the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil without dying...She ate the fruit, and gave some to the man too. (Creation Story World 33). Therefore, the snake making this bad decision, led to Yahweh cursing the snake shouting, you will be cursed by crawling your whole life and the women s children will eat you, the women being Eve, whom he had beguiled into eating from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. But not only was the snake cursed, Adam and Eve were also cursed. Yahweh told Eve that she would be cured to suffer the pain of childbirth and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. Safety Of Non Invasive Bp Monitoring System Safety of non invasive BP monitoring System The BP monitoring system proposed in this paper will comprise predominantly of three sensors and a focal facilitator; two PPG sensors, one on the ear flap, another on the fingertips, with a temperature sensor and the focal organizer, in this manner shaping a star network topology. The advantage of the star network is that a sensor can be just replaced without the need to supplant the whole system when the sensor has blunders, so it is anything but difficult to distinguish blames and to expel parts. A star network can likewise be effectively extended with more sensors, similar to ECG, EEG sensors, to enhance the execution of the whole medical monitoring system. The fact that the sensors are connected and powered by the central coordinator helps to reduce the size of the sensors. The use of micro sensors and microprocessor in the coordinator will make a wearable body sensor network possible, and which will not affect the patient s daily life. The two PPG sensors will collect the pulse information and will sent the data individually via wire transmission to the central coordinator. The PTT, with the temperature data collected by the temperature sensor, as well as other predetermined information, such as body temperature, age, gender, BMI etc. will be gathered and stored in the coordinator to compute the instant BP value. The wire transmission between sensors and coordinator ensures a safe, stable and rapid data transmission. In the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 49. Summary Of The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe A society s myths and legends are much more than stories. They represent the values, fears, hopes, and rules at the core of that culture. Due to the significance and complexity of morality and societal expectations, these lessons of life are taught to children in the form of symbolic stories much like fairytales. In his book The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, C.S. Lewis manages to encompass the incredibly complex concepts of the Christian ideology, such as sin and redemption into a fairytale like story. Using symbols and metaphor, Lewis creates the fantastic world of Narnia with just enough parallels that his young audience is able to appreciate the Atonement and nature of Christ in a format they understand. In the Mormon church, the Spirit is often described as a burning in one s bosom (D C 9:8). Burning does not sound very pleasant, it is reminiscent of the symptoms of a heart attack. Lewis compares these feelings of the Spirit to something from a child s experience. When the Pevensies hear about Aslan, they felt as if it had come from a dream with enormous meaning, simultaneously terrifying and too lovely to put into words...so beautiful that you remember it all your life (68). Good and bad dreams are something that kids have experience with. Because Edmund was poisoned by sin, the mention of Aslan gave him a sensation of mysterious horror rather than a good feeling (68). This explains the feelings of guilt one feels after doing something wrong, especially in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
