The Uncanny Valley And Visual Expertise
Introduction The uncanny valley is a phenomenon that occurs when we see human like beings and we
notice that they have or are missing some human features. The realization that they are missing human
features causes negative feelings of unease. In this paper I will first describe the uncanny valley.
MacDorman Cattopadhyay (2016) provide an interesting explanation as to why it can occur and how
the effect can be influenced. MacDorman Cattopadhyay (2016) suggests that eeriness of the uncanny
valley is not because of how eerie they look. Rather, it depends on how human like they are. Then, I
will describe visual expertise. Visual expertise in this sense refers to our ability to identify faces and
other objects that we have experience in perceiving. That experience is used to make top down
assumptions about what faces and their features should look like. Harel (2016) looks at visual
expertise, where it works, and how it works. Lastly, I will describe the relationship between the
uncanny valley and visual expertise. Kätsyri, Förger, Mäkäräinen, Takala (2015) provide an argument
in their surveying that can explain the relationship. They suggest that a possible explanation is that the
visual expertise that we have with facial recognition perceives featural differences in an artificial
human like face. The difference elicit that eerie response because we see something that does look
human like, but we identify as not being human.

Say Anything s I Don T Think It Matters
Album Review Say Anything s new album, I Don t Think It Is, is exactly what it sounds like. Max
Bemis is no stranger to pushing boundaries and this album reflects the ways he continues to do that.
Unlike most artists who release a few songs before the album drops, Bemis decided to take a different
approach in not just his music, but also his way of presenting it. This album was a complete surprise
and it was dropped as is with no songs leading up to the release. I was excited to see that one of my
favorite bands released a new album. After hearing it for the first time I came to one conclusion, Say
Anything s I Don t Think It Is, is perfectly imperfect in every way imaginable. This album was unlike
anything I have ever heard. It started off with the song Give A Damn. Bemis was screaming out his
lungs, basically going on a rant with this song setting the tone for the rest of the album. The chorus
says, We don t give a damn what they say repeated over and over. This is not unusual for Say
Anything, since they have always challenged the ideas of others. Quite frankly, just like the ... Show

focusing on what is real. We are conditioned to think or act a certain way from the moment we are
conceived leading up to our death. We only see what those around us want us to see and are
brainwashed into believing it is the truth. This is the message that this album is trying so hard to get
across. He is showing us the truth that most people turn their heads to through his

Comparison Of Cinema In Alfred Hitchcock Film Psycho
The conception of cinema has provided the world with a new art form. Its combination of theatrical
and photographic elements, coupled with nuances built of itself, creates pieces of artwork matchless to
the art forms before it. For film is too photographic to be considered comparable to theatre and too
theatrical to be comparable to photography. The invention of film fulfils some of the limitations of
both these mediums and opens possibilities that defines itself as its own artwork, which is ingested by
its audience in a more holistic way.
The most notable technique that separates film from other art forms is montage. Montage is the
selecting, editing, and piecing together separate sections of film to form a continuous whole.[1] This is
one of the most distinctive traits of cinema as it can alter our perspectives of the narrative and themes
in an almost seamless fashion. The splicing of separate shots can imply a narrative cue that isn t
explicitly shown in the piece. In the Alfred Hitchcock film Psycho there is a sequence in which the
protagonist, Marion Crane, is stabbed to death in a shower by the antagonist Norman Bates. The
depiction of the murder isn t specifically shown; the audience doesn t ever view her body ever coming
into contact with the knife stabbing. Hitchcock instead implies the murder through depicting several
shots of a stabbing motion from the Norman character cut with shots of Cranes facial expressions of
pain and close up shots of with her body in frame. This plot is further pushed by the splicing of shots
of dark liquid running down the sink, providing they viewer the result of the spliced shots. The viewer
is then able to perceive the actions in the narrative sense and can readily assume the death of the Crane
character. The psychology behind these shots is related to the Gestalt theory; which film theorist
Rudolf Arnheim showed interest in through his writings. The Gestalt theory refers to the mind s ability
to take individual elements and categorize them as a unified whole. Arnheim believed in the unreality
of the [film] medium (Münsterberg and Langdale, 2013) which in this case can be assimilated to the
lack of physical replication of murder depicted in the scene. Arnheim s

Questions On How The Clients Needs Essay
1. How the clients needs were specifically met (for example, approaches/briefing and follow through
communication /monitoring methods/processes) from the inception of the selected project till the
handover of the completed project? More often than not we find that the client lacks sufficient
knowledge that is required for a construction project. It was such client that we had to encounter. The
client s needs were met by incorporating the following processes: i. The Briefing There was a Briefing
process early on, during which the client s requirements were written down. This is usually held
before the start of every project. It consists of the Client s Project manager, the designer, the
consultant, the Contractor s Project Manager and the Planning in charge. The following were
discussed during the briefing: 1. The purpose, scope and the necessary outcomes of the project 2.
Functions of the stakeholders and the relationship between them 3. Budget and time allocations,
structure of the organization 4. Procurement instructions 5. Site safety, environmental conditions and
other factors that may affect the project ii. E mails All the emails were regularly documented. This
forms the legal document and all project related communications were done through e mails. All
grievances or changes in the design or changes in scope were notified through e mails. iii. Feedback

The Importance Of Water Scarcity In Egypt
Air, food, water, they are the keys of people to survive, it is no doubt that people can t survive without
anyone of these, thus, water is one of crucial thing that people need. In recent year, water
sustainability become a popular topic because water scarcity is quite serious around the world, about
1.2 billion people or nearly 20% of the world s population face physical scarcity, another 25% of
population live in a country which lack of necessary equipment to get water from river or lake (United
Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs 2014) ,and water sustainability is to make sure
people have clean water to use in future. Egypt face a water problem, bad location and inefficient
water use, but government have some solutions like use water more efficient and reduce waste. Israel
used to be a water scarcity country, but now, this problem has been solved by new technology.
Egypt is one of most water stressed country in the world. Two reasons which directly leads to water
scarcity in Egypt. One of main reason is location, Egypt is located in Africa, and surrounded by Israel,
Libya, Sudan and Red Sea, in addition, most areas of Egypt are deserts, these deserts cause hot and
dry climate (Wolvetang 2015). Inefficient irrigation also leads to water scarcity in Egypt. Because
almost 80 mm of rainfall per year, and only 6% of land is suitable for agriculture in Egypt, which
leads to wasteful irrigation techniques such as flood irrigation, this system losing 3 billion cubic

Definition Of Customary International Law
Within the scope of customary international law there are some varying norms that the international
law community must deal with, which can be broken down into three different categories from most
important to least important: 1) norms in which the international community allows no derogation,
these are known as peremptory norms or jus cogens, 2) norms that might allow for derogation, and 3)
norms that aren t binding but some might argue should be.
The classification of these customary norms is based off of both state practice and opinio juris. In
order to determine state practice the states may look towards each other and how they react in similar
scenarios. One debate surrounding this area is determining how many states need to sign off on an
action to determine that sufficient state practice is occurring. Two sides of the argument are the actual
number states versus the regionalization of the states. Opinio juris is defined as a state engaging in a
certain activity because they believe they are under legal obligation to act.
The idea of peremptory norms is older than modern international law itself (113). The idea of
peremptory norms stems from the belief that certain actions are so heinous that in order for these to be
prevented states shall not be allowed to derogate from adherence. The Vienna Convention on the Law
of Treaties shows the importance of peremptory norms in both Article 53 and 64. Article 53 states that
a treaty is void if at the time of its

People Face Trade-Offs
People deal with plenty of choices in their everyday lives. At the moment we open our eyes, we have
to make decisions. For instance, should we get up and prepare ourselves for a new day, or should we
continue resting in our beds? Even after when we have made this decision, we will still face choices
after choices. However, we cannot get all the things we want as according to Mankiw, scarcity exists
in our society. In other words, scarcity means that society has limited resources and therefore cannot
produce all the goods and services people wish to have. To get one thing that we like, we usually have
to give up other things that we like. Making decisions require trading off one goal against another.
This phenomenon is also called ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the trade offs that I faced before in my life is when I had to make a decision about what I want
to do after high school. If I chose to further my studies, that means I would have to give up the chance
to earn money and gain working experiences. When I made up my mind to continue studying, I
hesitated about which university to choose because there are too many choices. For example, if I had
chosen to study at local university, I would have lost the opportunity to experience the university life
in foreign country. Contrarily, if I had chosen to study abroad, there would have been a bigger
financial burden for my family. I had to make the wisest decision as it affects my future. When
government makes public policies, they have to consider between equality and efficiency. I have
noticed that our government imposes price ceiling on some necessities such as eggs and bread. This
may improve the equality, as everyone can buy eggs at the same price. However, it is inefficient
because suppliers would produce less eggs since they cannot get a higher price. In this case, they have
to ration limited resources to produce the right number of eggs. Nevertheless, I agree with Mankiw
that recognizing that people face trade offs does not by itself tell us what decisions they will or should
make (p.5). In conclusion, there is not no such thing as a free lunch , I believe that life is all about
trade offs. By

Chad is the biggest of Africa s 16 landlocked nations measuring 495,755 square miles slightly larger
than three times the size of California. Chad is located deep in the heart of Africa and is surrounded by

Africa due to its closeness to the deserts (WorldMaps.com). According to the CIA World Fact Book,
the GDP of Chad is was estimated to be $29.53B USD in 2014, the population is estimated to be

For most of the people, conditions are difficult and desperate. Chronic food shortages are widespread,
and starvation levels among young children are high (Ruralpoverty.org). Chad fairs poorly with regard
to the four generic factors of production. As much of Chad is positioned within the hot and dry Sahara
Desert made up of barren land, most of the country is a limiting resource. Natural resources are
limited and or under developed. As there is very little manufacturing, there is little improvement in
improving production processes for turning natural resources into consumer goods. The labor pool is
small, young and uneducated. 80% of the workforce is employed in labor intensive farming. Just 20%
of the workforce is employed in the higher skilled areas of manufacturing and providing technical
services (CIA.gov). Much of Chad s workforce is one dimensional and not able to be flexible enough
to move to other areas as training is limited and the education system is almost non existent.
Regarding capital, like other countries in poverty lacking in natural resources, Chad must import
goods and is reliant on on foreign aid. Investors are frightened by the challenging business climate in
Chad. In 2012, Chad was ranked last in the world in ease of doing business by the World Bank.
Entrepreneurship is present in Chad, however, most are black market businesses that feed on
governmental bureaucracy and corruption. Very few entrepreneurs

While researching for this assignment, I came across a lot of good points about each access control
measure, along with some bad points. Each measure was implemented with the best intentions for the
user. The fact that it simplifies log on procedures is a big factor. Security Assertion Markup Language

domains. Open Authorization allows you to use a common username and password to access different

They could theoretically go into your Facebook account and change your password, locking you out
of it. That is a downside to OAUTH. It grants the website certain permissions to post something on
Facebook on your behalf. What I mean by this is if you have your Yahoo account linked to Facebook
and you read an article, Yahoo will post something on Facebook saying you recently read a certain
article. Granted Yahoo gives you an option to show friends on Facebook what you read or not, but
websites such as SocialCam do not give you that option. If you watch a video on SocialCam it will
show on Facebook what you watched. The reasons behind these actions are so friends will drive
friends to read potential stories and to drive people to the websites to gain more viewers. So they
essentially use your Facebook to further their website. Also websites can use recent trends from your
Facebook page to try to entice you with advertisements. The advertisements may proclaim that friend
of yours on Facebook uses a certain product, or is interested in certain things that you may be
interested in. Now which one do I prefer? Personally they both have their downsides, but for ease of
access I actually prefer OAUTH. IT has its flaws, but so does any software or ease of access program.
Depending on how it is used, I would prefer to use it only to access certain websites where I

Materialistic Items In The Great Gatsby
Materialistic possessions became the center of popularity in the 1920 s, life became all about who
could get the most Women and throw the biggest party. These materialistic items were used to acquire
other non materialistic things such as love and social status. These goals were often unattainable,
specifically for three characters in F. Scott Fitzgerald s , The Great Gatsby. Love and social status
were the unattainable dreams of Myrtle, the status driven cheater; Wilson, the shooter; and Gatsby; the
Daisy craving self made millionaire. Myrtle Wilson married George Wilson because she thought he

Analysis Of East Of Eden By John Steinbeck
Steinbeck s own family and their dreams was a great inspiration for his multi generational novel East
of Eden. His maternal grandfather Samuel Hamilton emigrated from Ireland in the 19th century to buy
land, build a ranch and raise his family in Salinas Valley. From an online article John Steinbeck s
Derry Roots we find out that Samuel Hamilton was born at Ballykelly on 7 October 1830... Samuel
emigrated at the age of 17, at the height of the Great Famine, to New York where he married a young
Irish girl, Elizabeth Fagan in the summer of 1849. They came to California and set up a ranch in the
foothills of the Salinas Valley. When Samuel came to California, all the fertile land was taken. As
Steinbeck writes in the first chapter of East of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While the book progressed, the focus switched from the Hamiltons to the Trasks. As the title of the
book suggests, East of Eden was an allegory to a book of Genesis, namely the story of Cain and Abel.
The siblings rivalry for a love of their father transcends through generations. Adam vs. Charles, Aron
vs. Cal. Many of critics attacked Steinbeck for having showed all the symbols too obviously and
therefore the novel is not convincing. As Warren French points out, The theological disputation is
interesting as an exposition of Steinbeck s ideas, but these lack consistency and might be more
appropriately discussed in an essay than a novel (156). Owens argues that East of Eden may be a
much more subtle and complex construction than we are at first prepared to believe, one deserving of
more careful scrutiny than we have yet brought to bear (74). The most memorable character is Aron
and Cal s mother, the amoral Cathy/Kate. She represents everything evil. Kate is manipulative and is
not afraid to kill anyone who stands in her way. It has been said that Steinbeck s second wife Gwyn
was in a way an inspiration for Kate s character. Kate was a contrast to Samuel s character. Steinbeck s
grandfather is here portrayed as a wise and kind family man, a dreamer, always willing to help.
Samuel Hamilton becomes a force for good, a kind of savior, water witch, grail knight, and non
teleological visionary all rolled into one (Owens 66).
The East of Eden story circles around the Hebrew word: Timshel , loosely translated by a servant Lee
as Thou mayest. It was Samuel, who had a meaningful conversation with Lee, when he realized what

The Importance Of Media In The Media
Media is everywhere around the world, it surrounds us even when sometimes we don t even notice it.
It can appear from newspapers to news, or as well physically and throughout electronic devices such
as cell phones. We consider it as a tool to make time fly ahead or to spectate what is going on with
other people s lives. However, we may encounter certain factors that may not appeal to us. We may
see postings or news about tragic events that happen around the world and surprisingly, sometimes we
don t even bother to care, due to the fact that it wasn t us in that situation. There are a great number of
aspects to be resolved for this world to be free from issues, but a question that comes to mind is, What

An example that can relate to this song is when 9/11 happened, due to terrorists. An unexpected tragic
event that no one thought would happen that took many lives from loved ones to close ones. In
addition, Billie Joe Armstrong s pathos has an outstanding true meaning based from the lyrics, A new
day dawning, comes without warning... . One can interpret based on this factor that every day is a new
opportunity for something tragic to happen. This here is the message that Billie Joe Armstrong is
trying to convey to us all. He wants us to realize that all though we live happy at times, there is always
something dark waiting to approach at any time with unpredictable outcome. A second example based
on this observation can be the terror attack that happened recently on Friday when a bombing occurred
in a London train underground that injured 30 passengers on board. And furthermore, a second man
was arrested a couple days later due to the fact that he too was also affiliated with the incident as well
according to officers. In addition to the topic, Billie Joe Armstrong states about love and peace and
how it s impossible for such thing like that to occur, What good is love and peace on earth? When it s
exclusive? , as if he were trying to say that it would have to take a miracle for the world to resolve
from this. Many people have experienced moments when others are made fun of or times when people
fight for various reasons such as an argument.

chapter 13 Public Relations and Marketing is the main focus. Marketing is the process of researching,
creating, refining, and promoting a product or service and distributing that product or service to
targeted consumers (pg. 402 3). Public relations are the values driven management of relationships
between an organization and the publics that can affect its success (pg.403). Dillaway had to collect
research to better understand how to gain and keep customers. In the process of her research she was
also able to better advertise Bright House services as well. For example, Dillaway informed the class
how Bright House created a commercial to aim directly at Bakersfield customers in doing this the
commercial was filmed here. Chapter 13 also defines advertising as controlled media in an attempt to
influence the actions of targeted publics. Going back to the Bakersfield commercial, we can see the
that the targeted publics was Bakersfield consumers. Miranda Whitworth is the Marketing Manager

The ramifications of this to the Islamic empire is that by winning the Ridda war, the Muslim
community or Umma was still in a sense united which kept the Muslims in power of Arabia. Handing
the Muslim Umma to such a capable leader like Abu Bakr made sure that the Muslim community
united which guaranteed that the Muslims were still in control of their further territories.
After the death of Abu Bakr the Caliphate was handed seamlessly to Omar bin Al Khattab in 643 and
he ruled for ten years. His transmission to power was seamless because he was practising power
behind the scenes .Many would consider his administration of the Islamic nation as successful and
flourishing. After Muslims victory against the Byzantine in the battle of Yarmuk empire, provided
them with more land Palestine and Syria which helped Muslims with the territorial expansion. Later,
one of the richest cities in the Middle East, Alexandria have surrendered to the Muslims too. The way
Omar administered the territories of the Muslim state is in a fashion where the people of the new
conquered territories continue to live the way they used to. Moreover, these newly conquered places
would pay less money when compared to the previous administration. Not only that, but also, when it
became apparent that Muslim rule meant religious freedom as well as lower taxes, the Arab had little

Thesis: Solving our environmental problems is more difficult than many environmentalists believe. A
thesis statement is the main idea, not the title. It must be a complete sentence that explains in some
detail about what you expect to write. Title: Social Security and Old Age Thesis: Continuing changes
in the Social Security System make it almost impossible to plan intelligently for one s retirement. A
thesis statement is narrow, rather than broad, so that it can be fully supported. Broad: The American
steel industry has many problems. Narrow: The primary problem of the American steel industry is the
lack of funds to renovate outdated plants and equipment. A thesis statement is specific rather than
vague or general. Vague: Hemingway s war stories are very good. Specific: Hemingway s stories
helped create a new prose style by employing extensive dialogue, shorter sentences, and strong
language. A thesis statement has one main point rather than several main points. More than one point
may be too difficult for the reader to understand and the writer to support. More than one main point:
Stephen Hawking s physical disability has not prevented him from becoming a world renowned
physicist, and his book is the subject of a movie. One main point: Stephen Hawking s physical

Global Warming And Climate Change Myths
If you want to go beyond that small percentage of people who are already environmentally and
scientifically aware, you have to make your work somehow link with a passion, interest, or profession
of someone who isn t interested in science or nature (Nalini Nadkarni, n.d.). Like most who are not
fully educated on a subject until they research it or take a course on it, I was not aware of the overall
importance or impact that environmental science had on my everyday life and the world around me.
One of the major things that have been brought to my attention in this course is environmental issues,
and what I can do to help improve them. One of the convincing arguments that have not only shaped
my attitude, but cleared a lot of things up for me was reading and learning about Global Warming and
climate change myths. One of the myths on the list that stood out to me was, They changed the name
from Global Warming to Climate Change (Global Warming Climate Change Myths, 2016). According
to the scientists, both terms actually mean two different things, and have both been used for decades,
proving that myth to be false. Another big myth that seems to occupy the minds of a very large part of
the world s population is, It s not an urgent situation. To this, scientists have responded (and I fully
agree) with, A large amount of warming is delayed, and if we don t act now we could pass tipping
points (Global Warming Climate Change Myths, 2016). Another topic that

Zen Buddhisim and Japan Essay
Zen Buddhism and Japan
Japan and the development of Zen Buddhism went hand in hand towards the beginning of the sixth
century. Buddhism was in full bloom in India and the Chinese were adapting it to there Lifestyle when
several Japanese clans began picking it up. Zen Buddhism
Zen Buddhism is a combination of Indian and Chinese thought process revolving around the world as
it is and the discipline of finding enlightenment. The idea of enlightenment or Satori as the Japanese

If there is a statement relating to Geese flying, the quote is then not about actual geese, those are the
dead words, but the teacher and his intentions. Zen verbalism must seen as an undistinguishable thing
that reveals itself when the speaker looks inside at himself. D.T. Suzuki say that Satori must be the
growth of one s inner life and not a verbal implantation brought from the outside (p.10). Zen is a daily
experience, not something brought from outside. The second part of attaining enlightenment is the
following Zen actions just in general. In a way Zen verbalism is similar to Zen actions but Zen
verbalism refers to just the teachings that relate to Zen. This second way of finding enlightenment is
following the path of the Buddha in your everyday life style.
Zen Buddhism became the prominent religion in Japan due to support from popular leaders in the
country. The teaching of Buddhism came into to Japan during the sixth century when Japan was faced
with many feuding clans. Several clans picked up the new religion and soon after one of those clans
came into power. With much support from the new emperor, and other high ranking officials
Buddhism was declared the official religion of Japan. This created even more feuding, despite the
initial attempts at declaring Buddhism Japan s new national religion. Shinto was the other religion that

Rosa Parks And The Montgomery Bus Boycott
Introduction
Rosa Parks wouldn t move from her seat, would you move because of the color of your skin? In
Montgomery Alabama in 1955 a bus boycott took place. The black community of Montgomery

in Montgomery Alabama.
The spark of the boycott
Before the boycott began many blacks were arrested and fined. Rosa Parks refused to move from her
seat in the colored section for a white man. Rosa was part of a group trying to stop segregation in a
peaceful manner. They needed some one to stand up for the cause but Rosa never thought it would be

busses so the group wanted to do something with them but they didn t know what. When Rosa trial

The Goddess Of The Harvest

Powerful Women
Do you know who the supreme goddess is? Or the goddess of the harvest? What about the goddess of
love? Most goddesses are symbolized by and associated with fertility and marriage but very few with
power and war. Although there are many Greek goddesses, Hera, Demeter, and Aphrodite are three of
the most important.
Hera is the wife of Zeus. She is the goddess of women and marriage and also known as the most
matron goddess. Hera considered the lion, the cow, and the peacock scared. She is often portrayed as
majestic and solemn. A pomegranate is the symbol of fertile blood and death, Hera is often shown

Hera is intertwined throughout mythology. When Alcmene becomes pregnant with Heracles, Hera
tried to tie her legs in knots to prevent the birth. Alcmene s servant, Galanthis, lied to Hera and told
her that the baby had already been born. When Hera found out about the deception, she turned
Galanthis in to a weasel. Later, while Heracles was still an infant, Hera sent two serpents to kill him.
His nurse found him with a single snake in each hand squeezed to death. Another time, he was on a
quest and she sent amazon s to attack him. In another account, Zeus had tricked Hera into nursing
Heracles. When Hera realized who he was, she ripped him off of her breast. Upon his removal, a spurt
of her breast milk shot and was smeared across the sky. These attacks continued until some myths
state that he saved her. Porphyrion was a giant that tried to rape Hera and Heracles saved her. Some
myths state that she even gave her daughter, Hebe, to Heracles to be his bride.
Hera has showed in many myths how vengeful she could be, either by killing, torturing, or turning the
subject into something else. In one account, Zeus deeply loved Lamia (queen of Libya). Hera turned
her into a monster and killed their children. Gerana, the queen of Pygmies, once bragged that she was
more beautiful than Hera. In response, Hera turned Gerana in to a crane. Hera has her most dominant
role in the epic poem, The Illiad.

The Pros And Cons Of Racial Discrimination
As an international student, I was given a great opportunity to pursue a wide range of academic
studies and to experience the world diversity that enriches the promotion of a cultural exchange
amongst students from many different parts of the world. Interactions with different races on a
personal level has allowed me to gain a better understanding about them in person, their values, and
the world; however, until I left home and went abroad as an international student, I, too, was one of
few people who had only seen them in person from a long distance or through social media. As much
as the issue of racial discrimination has been extreme and people s ignorance of this issue has grown
in many countries, I had once denied to accept the difference and created bias in my personal view and
the way I perceived different races. People tend to acquire various knowledge through individual
perception formed simply by seeing what is currently lain in front of us, as I did. Barack Obama,
while campaigning for the presidential nomination at the National Constitution Center Union in
Philadelphia in 2008, delivered his speech about controversial issues of race that still exist in the
history of America (Rai, 646).
The speech titled A More Perfect Union conveys numerous messages regarding Obama s concerning
beliefs of racism. Barack Obama, himself, despite serving as the 44th President of the United States,
had gone through the long and hurtful journey of difficulties in the presence of racial discrimination
having to face the prejudice against the colored skin and a different social and cultural background.
Being colored, preconceptions about him was inevitable even during his campaign, but his oratory that
openly addressed the race which is the sensitive topic that is rarely discussed or spoken in public,
captured great attention allowing him to successfully build his image as an intelligent and patriotic
candidate. Through the speech, Obama not only responds to the criticisms of his affiliation with his
former pastor, Reverend Jeremiah Wright, who spoke of controversial and incendiary statements about
the divisive racial challenges in America and the injustice of the country as a nation by questioning the
U.S. government,

Research Paper On Cyberman
Cyberman is your average crime fighting superhero. Behind his mask he is a man named Ossie
Aibogan, who is just some rich, nerd who built himself into a superhero, because he has the money
and the power. His identity was a secret, of course. Ossie had first created the character Cyberman as a
simple doodle that then transformed into something much more. He perfected Cyberman s design for
years until he was finally ready to put on the suit and publicly become Cyberman. Cyberman s clothes
are woven from a stronger, lighter iron that isn t available to the average citizen, but Ossie is far from
average. He invented the first ever pair flying shoes, which coincidentally were the first ever shoes to

Judith Plaskow Research Paper
Judith Plaskow Judith Plaskow began her study of feminism while pursuing a Phd at Yale and
continued on to cofound B not Esh, a Jewish feminist spirituality collective, as well as author many
theological books (Braude, 2004, pg 219). She grew up in a Reform Judaism household and as a child
focused on ethical monotheism , which lead to her study of the Holocaust and the development of a
self image of victimhood (2004, pg 220). It was Naomi Weisstein, a psychologist, who spoke to
Plaskow women s group at Yale that really spurred her to reconsider her own ambitions in life (2004,
pg 221). In her discovery of feminism, Plaskow felt that she was able to move past her self identity as
a victim and began to examine how her womanhood and Jewishness could contribute to the world
(2004, pg 222). She began to connect feminism with religion along with her college friend Carol P.

Christ is the main leader of the Goddess Movement, although she grew up in a rather conservative
Christian family (Braude, 2004, pg 97 98). Upon entering Yale, her political views were opposite
those of her childhood, however she was still treated more as a female body than a female person
(2004, pg 99). Eventually, she was able to make life giving connections between herself and other
women at Yale, such as Plaskow (2004, pg 100). Christ tried to find a religion that could nourish her
soul, just as her friendships did, however, it was difficult to do so due to the deep embedded sexism in
many religions (2004, pg 102). It was Starhawk, a now famous neo pagan, who first introduced Christ
to the idea of a Goddess, rather than the male images of God she was accustomed to (2004, pg 102).
This Goddess allowed women to have an affirmation of their power, body and will (2004, pg 103).
Though she has found great success in her life as an author, Christ had struggled to find employment
as a professor due to her not being Christian (2004, pg

Pig s Responsibility In The Story Of The Three Little Pigs
The Story of the Three Little Pigs originated in England in 1890. In this fairytale their mother, Old
Sow, sends her three pigs into the world to seek their fortune. The pigs meet a man with building
materials. The first pig builds his house with straw; the second builds his house sticks and the third
with bricks. A wolf comes along seeking to blow down the pig s houses and eat them. Subsequently,
pig one and two are eaten, but the wolf is unsuccessful in blowing the third pig s house down. He
attempts to lure the pig out of his house to three locations: Mr. Smith s field, Merry Garden, and
Shanklin. However, the pig is clever and leaves an hour earlier than the wolf. After the third time of
being outsmarted the wolf becomes angry and climbs down the pig s chimney. Again, the pig is clever
so he places a boiling pot of water under the chimney that the wolf falls into. In the end, the pig eats
the wolf. In The Story of the Three Little Pigs the third pig illustrates responsibility in his preparation
for dealing with the wolf.
From the beginning the third pig showed responsibility in the material he chose to build his house out
of, and continued to show ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Mark Twain s The San Francisco Earthquake
San Francisco is a historic city on the coast of California. It is known throughout history for
experiencing many earthquakes, as it sits next to the San Andreas fault which runs up and down the
state. The city becomes the setting for Mark Twain s narrative essay, The San Francisco Earthquake
which recounts the events of an earthquake known as the great earthquake. In the ensuing disaster,
Twain does not direct his focus on the destruction of the city as much as he does on the people s
reactions. Through his writing, Twain wants to show that when faced with terror, people will resort to
mindless and silly behavior.
Twain begins his essay by saying, I enjoyed my first earthquake. A sarcastic tone is created through
this statement, as normally one would not find joy in experiencing an earthquake. Throughout the
essay, Twain describes the actions of the people with similar sarcasm and exaggeration. When he
describes a woman carrying a child who was running ...down the street holding it by the ankles as if it
were a dressed turkey, this imagery of the child is funny, but it also implies that the women is in such a
state of panic that she is not thinking clearly and does not notice the way she is holding her child. ...

Eyewitness Testimony And Evidence Testimony Essay
In the end of a court case, there is guilty and innocent. Sometimes the guilty is judged accordingly,
other times the innocent is judged guilty. Eyewitness testimony gives details about what happened,
identification of perpetrators. Eyewitness can be the central focus of the whole investigation, and is
also heavily focused on and powerful in the courtroom. Hence, eyewitness testimony is largely one of
the reasons as to why innocent individuals are thrown in prison. Although generally without a doubt,
eyewitness testimony is helpful to the court and investigation, but memory alone is not always
reliable. That previous statement was not meaning to convict all eyewitness testimony, but it is just
common sense to understand that not all eyewitness testimony is accurate or true. Eyewitness
testimony must be evaluated before allowing witnesses to be put into a courtroom because there are
many aspects as to why eyewitness testimony is not sincere or reliable. There are many factors as to
why relying eyewitness testimony is not always an advantage. During the witnessing of an event, there
may be psychological factors such as stress, trauma, or anxiety that can affect the testimony
(McLeod). According McLeod, there was a Journal of Applied Psychology in 1978 by Clifford, B.R.
and Scott, J. They found that people who saw a film filled with violent assaults recalled less than 40
items of information than those who were in a less stressful situation. So, witnessing a real crime

  • 2. The Uncanny Valley And Visual Expertise Introduction The uncanny valley is a phenomenon that occurs when we see human like beings and we notice that they have or are missing some human features. The realization that they are missing human features causes negative feelings of unease. In this paper I will first describe the uncanny valley. MacDorman Cattopadhyay (2016) provide an interesting explanation as to why it can occur and how the effect can be influenced. MacDorman Cattopadhyay (2016) suggests that eeriness of the uncanny valley is not because of how eerie they look. Rather, it depends on how human like they are. Then, I will describe visual expertise. Visual expertise in this sense refers to our ability to identify faces and other objects that we have experience in perceiving. That experience is used to make top down assumptions about what faces and their features should look like. Harel (2016) looks at visual expertise, where it works, and how it works. Lastly, I will describe the relationship between the uncanny valley and visual expertise. Kätsyri, Förger, Mäkäräinen, Takala (2015) provide an argument in their surveying that can explain the relationship. They suggest that a possible explanation is that the visual expertise that we have with facial recognition perceives featural differences in an artificial human like face. The difference elicit that eerie response because we see something that does look human like, but we identify as not being human. Uncanny Valley The uncanny valley refers to ... • 3. Say Anything s I Don T Think It Matters Album Review Say Anything s new album, I Don t Think It Is, is exactly what it sounds like. Max Bemis is no stranger to pushing boundaries and this album reflects the ways he continues to do that. Unlike most artists who release a few songs before the album drops, Bemis decided to take a different approach in not just his music, but also his way of presenting it. This album was a complete surprise and it was dropped as is with no songs leading up to the release. I was excited to see that one of my favorite bands released a new album. After hearing it for the first time I came to one conclusion, Say Anything s I Don t Think It Is, is perfectly imperfect in every way imaginable. This album was unlike anything I have ever heard. It started off with the song Give A Damn. Bemis was screaming out his lungs, basically going on a rant with this song setting the tone for the rest of the album. The chorus says, We don t give a damn what they say repeated over and over. This is not unusual for Say Anything, since they have always challenged the ideas of others. Quite frankly, just like the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We are conditioned to think or act a certain way from the moment we are conceived leading up to our death. We only see what those around us want us to see and are brainwashed into believing it is the truth. This is the message that this album is trying so hard to get across. • 4. Comparison Of Cinema In Alfred Hitchcock Film Psycho The conception of cinema has provided the world with a new art form. Its combination of theatrical and photographic elements, coupled with nuances built of itself, creates pieces of artwork matchless to the art forms before it. For film is too photographic to be considered comparable to theatre and too theatrical to be comparable to photography. The invention of film fulfils some of the limitations of both these mediums and opens possibilities that defines itself as its own artwork, which is ingested by its audience in a more holistic way. The most notable technique that separates film from other art forms is montage. Montage is the selecting, editing, and piecing together separate sections of film to form a continuous whole.[1] This is one of the most distinctive traits of cinema as it can alter our perspectives of the narrative and themes in an almost seamless fashion. The splicing of separate shots can imply a narrative cue that isn t explicitly shown in the piece. In the Alfred Hitchcock film Psycho there is a sequence in which the protagonist, Marion Crane, is stabbed to death in a shower by the antagonist Norman Bates. The depiction of the murder isn t specifically shown; the audience doesn t ever view her body ever coming into contact with the knife stabbing. Hitchcock instead implies the murder through depicting several shots of a stabbing motion from the Norman character cut with shots of Cranes facial expressions of pain and close up shots of with her body in frame. This plot is further pushed by the splicing of shots of dark liquid running down the sink, providing they viewer the result of the spliced shots. The viewer is then able to perceive the actions in the narrative sense and can readily assume the death of the Crane character. The psychology behind these shots is related to the Gestalt theory; which film theorist Rudolf Arnheim showed interest in through his writings. The Gestalt theory refers to the mind s ability to take individual elements and categorize them as a unified whole. Arnheim believed in the unreality of the [film] medium (Münsterberg and Langdale, 2013) which in this case can be assimilated to the lack of physical replication of murder depicted in the scene. • 5. Questions On How The Clients Needs Essay 1. How the clients needs were specifically met (for example, approaches/briefing and follow through communication /monitoring methods/processes) from the inception of the selected project till the handover of the completed project? More often than not we find that the client lacks sufficient knowledge that is required for a construction project. It was such client that we had to encounter. The client s needs were met by incorporating the following processes: i. The Briefing There was a Briefing process early on, during which the client s requirements were written down. This is usually held before the start of every project. It consists of the Client s Project manager, the designer, the consultant, the Contractor s Project Manager and the Planning in charge. The following were discussed during the briefing: 1. The purpose, scope and the necessary outcomes of the project 2. Functions of the stakeholders and the relationship between them 3. Budget and time allocations, structure of the organization 4. Procurement instructions 5. Site safety, environmental conditions and other factors that may affect the project ii. E mails All the emails were regularly documented. This forms the legal document and all project related communications were done through e mails. All grievances or changes in the design or changes in scope were notified through e mails. iii. Feedback System A regular feedback system was created with the client. • 6. The Importance Of Water Scarcity In Egypt Air, food, water, they are the keys of people to survive, it is no doubt that people can t survive without anyone of these, thus, water is one of crucial thing that people need. In recent year, water sustainability become a popular topic because water scarcity is quite serious around the world, about 1.2 billion people or nearly 20% of the world s population face physical scarcity, another 25% of population live in a country which lack of necessary equipment to get water from river or lake (United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs 2014) ,and water sustainability is to make sure people have clean water to use in future. Egypt face a water problem, bad location and inefficient water use, but government have some solutions like use water more efficient and reduce waste. Israel used to be a water scarcity country, but now, this problem has been solved by new technology. Egypt is one of most water stressed country in the world. Two reasons which directly leads to water scarcity in Egypt. One of main reason is location, Egypt is located in Africa, and surrounded by Israel, Libya, Sudan and Red Sea, in addition, most areas of Egypt are deserts, these deserts cause hot and dry climate (Wolvetang 2015). Inefficient irrigation also leads to water scarcity in Egypt. Because almost 80 mm of rainfall per year, and only 6% of land is suitable for agriculture in Egypt, which leads to wasteful irrigation techniques such as flood irrigation, this system losing 3 billion cubic ... • 7. Definition Of Customary International Law Within the scope of customary international law there are some varying norms that the international law community must deal with, which can be broken down into three different categories from most important to least important: 1) norms in which the international community allows no derogation, these are known as peremptory norms or jus cogens, 2) norms that might allow for derogation, and 3) norms that aren t binding but some might argue should be. The classification of these customary norms is based off of both state practice and opinio juris. In order to determine state practice the states may look towards each other and how they react in similar scenarios. One debate surrounding this area is determining how many states need to sign off on an action to determine that sufficient state practice is occurring. Two sides of the argument are the actual number states versus the regionalization of the states. Opinio juris is defined as a state engaging in a certain activity because they believe they are under legal obligation to act. The idea of peremptory norms is older than modern international law itself (113). The idea of peremptory norms stems from the belief that certain actions are so heinous that in order for these to be prevented states shall not be allowed to derogate from adherence. The Vienna Convention on the Law of Treaties shows the importance of peremptory norms in both Article 53 and 64. Article 53 states that a treaty is void if at the time of its ... • 8. People Face Trade-Offs People deal with plenty of choices in their everyday lives. At the moment we open our eyes, we have to make decisions. For instance, should we get up and prepare ourselves for a new day, or should we continue resting in our beds? Even after when we have made this decision, we will still face choices after choices. However, we cannot get all the things we want as according to Mankiw, scarcity exists in our society. In other words, scarcity means that society has limited resources and therefore cannot produce all the goods and services people wish to have. To get one thing that we like, we usually have to give up other things that we like. Making decisions require trading off one goal against another. This phenomenon is also called ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of the trade offs that I faced before in my life is when I had to make a decision about what I want to do after high school. If I chose to further my studies, that means I would have to give up the chance to earn money and gain working experiences. When I made up my mind to continue studying, I hesitated about which university to choose because there are too many choices. For example, if I had chosen to study at local university, I would have lost the opportunity to experience the university life in foreign country. Contrarily, if I had chosen to study abroad, there would have been a bigger financial burden for my family. I had to make the wisest decision as it affects my future. When government makes public policies, they have to consider between equality and efficiency. I have noticed that our government imposes price ceiling on some necessities such as eggs and bread. This may improve the equality, as everyone can buy eggs at the same price. However, it is inefficient because suppliers would produce less eggs since they cannot get a higher price. In this case, they have to ration limited resources to produce the right number of eggs. Nevertheless, I agree with Mankiw that recognizing that people face trade offs does not by itself tell us what decisions they will or should make (p.5). In conclusion, there is not no such thing as a free lunch , I believe that life is all about trade offs. By ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For most of the people, conditions are difficult and desperate. Chronic food shortages are widespread, and starvation levels among young children are high (Ruralpoverty.org). Chad fairs poorly with regard to the four generic factors of production. As much of Chad is positioned within the hot and dry Sahara Desert made up of barren land, most of the country is a limiting resource. Natural resources are limited and or under developed. As there is very little manufacturing, there is little improvement in improving production processes for turning natural resources into consumer goods. The labor pool is small, young and uneducated. 80% of the workforce is employed in labor intensive farming. Just 20% of the workforce is employed in the higher skilled areas of manufacturing and providing technical services (CIA.gov). Much of Chad s workforce is one dimensional and not able to be flexible enough to move to other areas as training is limited and the education system is almost non existent. Regarding capital, like other countries in poverty lacking in natural resources, Chad must import goods and is reliant on on foreign aid. Investors are frightened by the challenging business climate in Chad. In 2012, Chad was ranked last in the world in ease of doing business by the World Bank. Granted Yahoo gives you an option to show friends on Facebook what you read or not, but websites such as SocialCam do not give you that option. If you watch a video on SocialCam it will show on Facebook what you watched. The reasons behind these actions are so friends will drive friends to read potential stories and to drive people to the websites to gain more viewers. So they essentially use your Facebook to further their website. Also websites can use recent trends from your Facebook page to try to entice you with advertisements. The advertisements may proclaim that friend of yours on Facebook uses a certain product, or is interested in certain things that you may be interested in. Now which one do I prefer? • 12. Analysis Of East Of Eden By John Steinbeck Steinbeck s own family and their dreams was a great inspiration for his multi generational novel East of Eden. His maternal grandfather Samuel Hamilton emigrated from Ireland in the 19th century to buy land, build a ranch and raise his family in Salinas Valley. From an online article John Steinbeck s Derry Roots we find out that Samuel Hamilton was born at Ballykelly on 7 October 1830... Samuel emigrated at the age of 17, at the height of the Great Famine, to New York where he married a young Irish girl, Elizabeth Fagan in the summer of 1849. They came to California and set up a ranch in the foothills of the Salinas Valley. When Samuel came to California, all the fertile land was taken. As the title of the book suggests, East of Eden was an allegory to a book of Genesis, namely the story of Cain and Abel. The siblings rivalry for a love of their father transcends through generations. Adam vs. Charles, Aron vs. Cal. Many of critics attacked Steinbeck for having showed all the symbols too obviously and therefore the novel is not convincing. As Warren French points out, The theological disputation is interesting as an exposition of Steinbeck s ideas, but these lack consistency and might be more appropriately discussed in an essay than a novel (156). Owens argues that East of Eden may be a much more subtle and complex construction than we are at first prepared to believe, one deserving of more careful scrutiny than we have yet brought to bear (74). The most memorable character is Aron and Cal s mother, the amoral Cathy/Kate. She represents everything evil. Kate is manipulative and is not afraid to kill anyone who stands in her way. It has been said that Steinbeck s second wife Gwyn was in a way an inspiration for Kate s character. Kate was a contrast to Samuel s character. Steinbeck s grandfather is here portrayed as a wise and kind family man, a dreamer, always willing to help. Samuel Hamilton becomes a force for good, a kind of savior, water witch, grail knight, and non teleological visionary all rolled into one (Owens 66). The East of Eden story circles around the Hebrew word: Timshel , loosely translated by a servant Lee as Thou mayest. One can interpret based on this factor that every day is a new opportunity for something tragic to happen. This here is the message that Billie Joe Armstrong is trying to convey to us all. He wants us to realize that all though we live happy at times, there is always something dark waiting to approach at any time with unpredictable outcome. A second example based on this observation can be the terror attack that happened recently on Friday when a bombing occurred in a London train underground that injured 30 passengers on board. And furthermore, a second man was arrested a couple days later due to the fact that he too was also affiliated with the incident as well according to officers. In addition to the topic, Billie Joe Armstrong states about love and peace and how it s impossible for such thing like that to occur, What good is love and peace on earth? The Pros And Cons Of Racial Discrimination As an international student, I was given a great opportunity to pursue a wide range of academic studies and to experience the world diversity that enriches the promotion of a cultural exchange amongst students from many different parts of the world. Interactions with different races on a personal level has allowed me to gain a better understanding about them in person, their values, and the world; however, until I left home and went abroad as an international student, I, too, was one of few people who had only seen them in person from a long distance or through social media. As much as the issue of racial discrimination has been extreme and people s ignorance of this issue has grown in many countries, I had once denied to accept the difference and created bias in my personal view and the way I perceived different races. People tend to acquire various knowledge through individual perception formed simply by seeing what is currently lain in front of us, as I did. Barack Obama, while campaigning for the presidential nomination at the National Constitution Center Union in Philadelphia in 2008, delivered his speech about controversial issues of race that still exist in the history of America (Rai, 646). The speech titled A More Perfect Union conveys numerous messages regarding Obama s concerning beliefs of racism. Barack Obama, himself, despite serving as the 44th President of the United States, had gone through the long and hurtful journey of difficulties in the presence of racial discrimination having to face the prejudice against the colored skin and a different social and cultural background. Being colored, preconceptions about him was inevitable even during his campaign, but his oratory that openly addressed the race which is the sensitive topic that is rarely discussed or spoken in public, captured great attention allowing him to successfully build his image as an intelligent and patriotic candidate. That previous statement was not meaning to convict all eyewitness testimony, but it is just common sense to understand that not all eyewitness testimony is accurate or true. Eyewitness testimony must be evaluated before allowing witnesses to be put into a courtroom because there are many aspects as to why eyewitness testimony is not sincere or reliable. There are many factors as to why relying eyewitness testimony is not always an advantage. During the witnessing of an event, there may be psychological factors such as stress, trauma, or anxiety that can affect the testimony (McLeod). According McLeod, there was a Journal of Applied Psychology in 1978 by Clifford, B.R. and Scott, J.
