F. 30 Insomnia Case Study Student
Mr. M, a 54 year old man is taken to a sleep disorder facility for examination of daytime
somnolence and insomnia. He has been battling with anxiety and depression, a disorder he is
being treated with. He reports that he has been suffering from Insomnia for several years and
only turned worse about 7 years ago. He is troubled with sleep initiation, which usually takes him
over one hour to fall asleep. As soon as he is asleep, he wakes up several times, which makes him
to struggle again to go back to sleep. He turns in bed without sleep until dawn when he gets up
feeling fatigued and drained. The major diagnosis is DSM 5 insomniadisorder. Given the comorbid
indications of obstructive sleep apneaand depression, it would perhaps be hard to assess whether
Mr. M has DSM IV primary insomnia since DSM 5 enables the clinician to generate an
unpremeditated attribution between obstructive sleep disorderand insomnia.

The Hurt Locker and Zero Dark s Use of Language to Portray...
How do Kathryn Bigelow s films The Hurt Locker and Zero Dark Thirty use language to portray
the life of combatants in a battle?
Introduction
Kathryn Bigelow is one of the most iconic directors of the modern era. Her sense of depicting
language remains unopposed. She is known for her specialty films of the war genre. Several of
her works have been greatly appreciated, such as The Weight of Water, The Hurt Locker
, Zero Dark
Thirty, etc. These have won her several awards and secured her place as one of the most influential
directors of all time.
Essay
The Hurt Locker is a slow paced film. Most of the scenes have been deeply elaborated with
excessive portrayal on the character s expression. Set during Iraq War, it illustrates the lives of
three soldiers who have the most terrifyingly dangerous jobs in the world working in a bomb
disposal squad. They risk their lives every day to provide safety to the society they are aiding. It is
an extremely harsh and touching film, which depicts the message that when you love something
and keeping repeating it, it becomes an obsession and you cannot live without it. Most of the
characters in the film can be interconnected to the actors where he/she have an unsafe passion.
There are several metaphors buried in each scene which, when examined carefully, reveal the
political meaning.
The lead character of The Hurt Locker, Sergeant First Class William James, is, metaphorically, a
character representation of America, often putting him and

Reflection Defined By Boyd And Fales
Reflection Reflection defined by Boyd and Fales (1983) as the process of internally examining
and exploring an issue of concern, triggered by an experience, which creates or clarifies meaning
in terms of the self and which changes individuals conceptual perspective (Seibert and Daudelin,
1999:20). Additionally, Boyd and Fales also demonstrated that reflection is the key to learning
from experience (Seibert and Daudelin, 1999:20). Whereas, Moon (2004:80) had defined reflecting
as a process in which we reflect in order to learn something or we learn as a result of reflecting.
Rolfe et al (2001) model was also based on reflection but his focus was on the What model?. His
approach is mostly used with nurses as it would facilitate with three different stages (a) what? Is
the problem, role did I have, actions did I take, did I hope to achieve, was my reaction to it, was
good or bad (b) so what? Does it tell me about my skills, could I have done differently (c) now
what? Do I need to do differently to improve it, other issues I need to consider for the future?
These three stages can help stimulate reflection (Morrissey and Callaghan, 2011:36). Using
Rolfe et al (2001) model on my volunteering role, I was able to reflect back and question (a) what
did I hope to achieve? I hope to achieve the knowledge based around a family support worker both
intellectual and also physical. (b) so what could I have done differently? Reflecting back I could
have spoken in front of the

The Chorus Of Sophocles Antigone
Introduction
A large part of Greek culture were the religious festivals that occurred once a year. Furthermore,
during these festivals the greeks would honor their gods. The Festival of Dionysus honored the god
of fertility, revelry and wine (Reinhold 1959).
The author of Antigone, Sophocles had participated in one of these festivals and won the award for
his performance. He did not become known as one of the greatest playwrights then. Only now is he
thought of as one of the greatest playwrights during the greek era.
The point of this paper is to show how the chorus in Greek Theater tragedy performances affect the
way the play Antigone is performed. Through the use of mask, staging, and speech, Sophocles best
distinguishes the chorus.
Sophocles most famous playwright is Antigone which was written around 441 b.c. (Reinhold 1959).
The odes for the chorus is why this playwright is famous. In order to perform Antigone, a director
would need to understand numerous things relating to the chorus: where the chorus adds structure
of the play, traditional Greek staging, mask and type of costumes in the play.
Antigone and her sister decide to return to Thebes with the intention of helping their brothers
(Eteocles and Polyneices) avoid a prophecy which predicts they will kill each other in a battle for
the throne of Thebes (Samooh Theater 2014). Unfortunately for the brothers, the prophecy fulfills
itself . Antigone returns home to find out that her brothers are dead. Her

Risks for Key Stakeholders
When employees make some suggestions in the consultation meeting, but do not respond through
the supervisor and directly respond to the top, it might lead to dissatisfaction with their superiors.
It is because the supervisor may think employees not to regard to his feelings. Thus, it will
seriously affect the company s operations. In addition, companies need cost to organize large scale

nowhere to go. This way we will have somewhere to go to protect ourselves, sort of like a home.
Most importantly, I believe we should start a fire, and keep it going for the remains of our time

Nature s Gold and Ghost Stories Essay
Life and death are leaves us with an known and unknown that are unavoidable. In the poem
Nothing Gold Can Stay by Robert Frost symbolism, rhyme, and allusion are used to describe not
only nature s life cycle but the human life cycle as well. The allegory Used to Live Here Once by
Jean Rhys uses symbolism and motif to deliver a story of a woman who has died but is unaware
that she has actually passed away. Even though both of these pieces of literature utilize similar
elements that symbolize the humanlife cycle in their writings they are very different in nature, and
the poem Nothing Gold Can Stay leaves you with an actual reality of all beings lifecycles and the
allegory leaves you with imagination only. A symbol is something... Show more content on

This first use of symbolism differs from the allegory Used to Live Here Once. The second
sentence is where the narrator starts the use of symbolism to explain the different steps in life
through the explanation of the rocks in a river. The round unsteady stone, the pointed one, the
flat one in the middle the safe stone where you could stand and look around, the unsteady stone
represents life as a child, when we are first learning to walk and talk, the pointed stone is the
apex of our journey through life, the flat stone was after our hard days were done, such as when
we are older and more mature, and the safe stone represents when you took a step back and
decided not to engage life, but life is for living so you must continue to move forward and not
stand off to the side. Finally the narrator explains one more rock, The next one wasn t so safe for
when the river was full the water flowed over it and even when it showed dry it was slippery,
this sentence explains her current situation. Being that she had died and does not realize that yet,
she is in a situation to where even though everything looks right the next step is a slippery one,
soon she will find out that she is no longer alive. The first use of symbolism in each of these
pieces is about life, one tells us that life is a precious thing, where

The Role Of Rape In Laurie Halse Anderson s Speak
In Speak, Laurie Halse Anderson utilizes mirrors to provide the readers with insight into the mind
of the protagonist, Melinda Sordino, an isolated and lonely high school freshmen with the weight
of what happened to her at a party over the summer break. Prior to the party, Melinda was not
extremely popular, but she had a core group of friends. Her assault changed all of that. According
to a report in the late 1990 s, the number of incidents of date rapehas slowly declined. In the 1990s,
the time period for Anderson s novel, 1.1 million women reported intimate violence in 1993 as
compared with 900,000 female victims in 1998 (Constantakis 262). Although the incident of rape is

Melinda notices that while in the car, Heather s mom is watching her and she feels judged. She
then tries to hide herself from Heather s mom, but continues to look at her own reflection and
comes to the conclusion that The scabs on [her] lips are especially gross in that little rectangle
mirror proving that she is slowly deteriorating inside and out following her rape (Anderson 82).
Throughout the novel, she constantly bites her lips as a nervous tick and they are always bloody
and scabbed. She is aware of this and how disgusting they look but cannot stop, therefore it
contributes to self destruction of her body along with her mind. In another section of the book
Melinda is scrutinizing the image that stares back at her in the mirror and she push[es] her ragged
mouth against the mirror. A thousand bleeding crusted lips push back (125). Her lips are becoming
irritated along with her mind. The thoughts she has about herself are twisted and always negative.
She is destroying herself mentally which ultimately results in the adaptation of low self esteem.
Hart writes that, she has little protection between her outer and inner self proving that her thoughts
are uncontrolled and lead to impulse habits that physically destroy her (Hart 264). Melinda is
breaking apart, yet no one notices the subtle changes in her body that are the consequences of her

Chain Elongation In The Escalators
For this particular project profit is not a concern, but rather the concern is to increase customer
satisfaction. This is going to be done by having predictive maintenance on the elongation of the
chain in the escalators, rather than reactive maintenance. Currently, BART is reacting to the effects
of chain elongation on escalators which causes maintenance to be rather expensive but most
importantly inconvenient for customers. BART is currently doing this because some of the
escalators are older so they do not have any automation associated with them. At this moment, when
an escalator breaks down due to chain elongation there is major downtime to repair it because it is
in need of emergency maintenance. With emergency reactive maintenance an

Difference Between Modernist And Modernism
Modernist Postmodernist
Design in 20th century is influenced on modernist and postmodernist philosophies. Before
development of Modernism, taste was dictated to the wealthy classes by the whims of the king or
other Г©lite figures (emperors come to mind). Tradition was the dictated rule and deviating from
that resulted in ridicule. The idea of Modernism was the basis for 20th Century design, fashion and
art. It still affects us today.
Ironically, Modernism evolved from looking to the past, at a time when mass production and
consumption had taken over from style and taste. In the mid 19th Century, groups of designers
rebelled against mass production and used the best of what the past could offer to bring a new
attitude towards taste and style. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Post modernism is made up of many sub cultures and genres with different particular aims. The
best, simple definition which we can use is that post modernism is a reaction against modernism
and responds to the social and political issues of today. Modernism was destined to disappoint as it
continued to preoccupy itself with the reductionist chase for empirical fact. Post modernism often
produces what appears to be fiction which grows or matures towards fact.
Postmodernism shattered established ideas about style and brought a radical freedom to art and
design. At its height in the 1980s, postmodern designers such as the Memphis group, Alessi and
Arad, contributed to the new wave: a few thrilling years when image was everything.
Postmodernism challenges the traditional cultural values of today s societies, in particular,
western society. Life today is radically different to what it was fifty or even thirty years ago. The
traditional values of marriage and family no longer exist; with women having the same status in
the work place as men and also not settling down until later in life. A lot of couples choose not to
have children at all. Religion also has less of an effect on society as it used to, it is almost
becoming irrelevant to many people. Postmodernism has become a description of these shifts in
contemporary society and

The Downfall Of Sophocles Oedipus The King
Name: Ebtesam Alenazi
Class Name: Eng 1102
Instructor Name: Dr. Nader
Date: 09 October, 2015 The Downfall of Oedipus In Sophocles Oedipus the King, the topics of
fate and free will are exceptionally solid all through the play and. Both focuses could be
contended to extraordinary impact. In old Greece, fate was thought to be a simple piece of
everyday life. Each part of life depended and was based upon fate. It is nature conviction to accept
that humankind does in reality have Free will and every individual can choose the result of his or
her life. All Oedipus actions are given to him by God So, fate and free will control his downfall.
Oedipus the King is an anecdote around a noticeable ruler torn by Destiny and the impact his own
behavior has upon his fate. We can gain much from the disastrous story of Oedipus, why he
unknowingly murders his dad, and to wed and has youngsters with his own mom. When Oedipus
is educated of this prescience, he tries urgently to escape it by running from the place where he
grew up and notwithstanding staying away from his assumed folks. In spite of the fact that he
may not understand it, Oedipus own particular activities add to his Downfall; it is his egotistical
irritability and his extreme pride that makes him settle on the choices that set the course of
occasions that lead him to his own fate, as well as to the fate he was attempting so urgently to

With at least 49 deaths, the ship definitely has some strange things going on, that cannot be
explained. The deaths that happened during the ship s history, is linked with the many spirits
that roam the area. The spirits of Captain Treasure Jones, John Pedder, Jackie continue to haunt
the passengers from time to time. There were some reports that Captain Jones loved to smoke a
good cigar and at times the smell of cigar smoke can still be detected. John Pedder s scream can
be heard from the door he was killed by. Jackie likes to play in the pool areas of the ship. Jackie
can be heard singing and laughing. Sarah can also be heard singing with Jackie. Shadow people
have been reported by people in all locations of the ship and at all hours of the day and night.
Many people have photographed shadow people. There are many theories as to what shadow
people are. Some believe they are possibly inter dimensional beings slipping between our
dimension and theirs. Others believe it is just another form of ghost. Whatever they are or
wherever they come from, one thing is for certain. When you see one you won t forget it.
Shadow people come in many shapes and sizes. People who have seen shadow people say that
they seem to have a strange smokey look to them. Balls of light have also been witnessed in
many areas of the ship. They are very solid in appearance, and can be seen in pitch black just
cruising along in the darkness. These can not be explained well, as there is no firm evidence
about it. Cabin B340 is the location of another vicious murder aboard the Queen Mary. There has
been a lot of paranormal activity related to this room, and so many requests by guests for new

Rudyard Kipling s Ethhos And Ethos
Journal Two: Ethos
Aristotle defined ethos as how messages persuade as a result of the communicator s character. He
claimed that this was most important in the list of the three rhetorical appeals. The reason was
because that person has to be a trustworthy speaker to the audience, but that requires have
practictical intelligence, virtuous character, and good will. Rudyard Kipling has an automatic ethos
built to his audience because the intended audience was his son, and there is an automatic father
son bond established. Kipling can use this bond to his favor while trying to convey his message,
because the trust will heighten the chance of the son taking the advice the father is trying to give
him. If a stranger was trying to give the same advice without any background, it wouldn t be as
powerful nor personal to the son and he wouldn t know where the scenarios were coming from. By
Kipling being the communicator, he is meeting all three of the criteria for strong ethos according to
Aristotle s ideology. Kipling has the practical intelligence from parenting, age, and experience. He
has virtuous character through the life experiences that he has been through and he has good will
by his helpful intention with his knowledge towards the subject.
The communicator s investments in the issue are present because of who he has decided to
direct his piece towards. Writing to his son will evoke a change in his writing as well because of
the emotional ties. He is not just trying to expose his past to let the world see his mistakes, but
rather materialize them on paper to show his son mistakes to prevent future mishaps. He has the
credibility as being the leader and one that his son looks up to, so showing his son how to be a
Man will be something that will spark interest. His credibility as a speaker is strengthened because
the connection to these past experiences as well. This will also impact what he chooses to say in
during his piece. Some situations the son will encounter will be trickier to overcome than others
and may seem like a good idea at the moment. However, Kipling wants to make certain the son
knows that his son is not the first to go through this, and there is ways to get through the the
situation no matter

Classifications Of The Overachievers And Academicly...
School is a melting pot of people. Everyone is different, which means that everyone has different
ways of learning. Although different, there are similarities among students which leads them to fit
into three different classifications. These three classifications are the overachievers, academically
average students, and the underachievers or slackers. Admittedly, these categories are heavily
influenced by media s portrayal of different students but can still be useful when evaluating what
kind of person each studentis. The first classification of the different type of students is the
overachievers. These students are sometimes called goody two shoes or know it alls. These are the
students that are motivated, persistent, dedicated, and responsible. The overachievers are usually
the ones found studying the most. They are also the ones who usually sits in front of the class and
participates the most. They are the first ones to raise their hand to answer a question and since they
usually know the answers to most questions in class, they are the ones that are approached by other
students who are seeking answers themselves. Other students believe that overachievers make those
students that are not overachieving not capable of anything. Overachievers are the students who
are the most prepared, has higher grades in classes, and never really get in trouble. These students
are the ones that everybody has high standards for and is predicted to be the most successful in life.

Being Frugal Research Paper
We all want to save money and often times go the extra mile to do so, but is there a such thing as
too frugal ?
Definitely! Here s how to gauge when you re taking it a bit too far!
Deprivation: Frugality comes from sparing resources while still meeting your basic needs. Being
frugal should never mean that you are depriving yourself from the basics, i.e food. When budgeting
and determining what changes you re making to your spending habits the most important thing is to
make sure your needs are met regardless. Deprivation is not limited to food, don t deprive yourself
from basic human needs such as new clothes, human interaction ( trust me, avoiding spending
money on activities can cause this) and special personal advances. Keep your needs met and it will
all fall in place.
Senseless Frugality: This refers to spending money foolishly. Being frugal has to make sense, if
not you re doing it wrong. I urge you to remember Cheaper does not mean better for your pockets!
Buying the paper plates that cost 99 cents for 100 may seem like a better option in comparison to
the $2.99 for 40. But let take a closer look the food seeps through the cheaper version and you ll
run through it twice as fast hence this is what we refer to as senseless frugality you save a little

Ambler Real House Scandal
Facts:
This is a dispute over zoning ordinance and whether it is infringing on the rights of property
owners. The Village of Euclid (Euclid) is a municipal corporation in the suburbs of Cleveland,
Ohio. It is 12 14 square acres, most of which is farmland and unimproved acreage. Ambler Realty
Co. (Ambler) owns 68 acres of land in the westerly edge of the village. A zoningordinance was
adopted by the Village of Euclid on November 13, 1922 which divided the village into multiple
districts and specified exactly what type of buildings were to be built in each district, specifically
the use of buildings and their height and FAR. Ambler s land spanned multiple districts of land and
so Ambler s ability to construct buildings on its land was severely limited, per the zoning
ordinance. Ambler claims that this restriction has reduced the market value of their land from
$10,000 to $2,500 per acre. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Causes Of The Russian Revolution
The Russian Revolution is a series of political events that occurred during the years 1905 to 1924.
The February Revolution, in which overthrew the imperial government and the October Revolution,

Asian American Self Regulation
Similarly, Iyengar and Lepper (1999) examined the cultural differences on children s self regulation.
They compared European American and Asian American on their self regulation. The participants
could either make their own choices on the features of the task or assigned by their authority figures
or peers. They found that European American were less motivated when they were doing the task
that was assigned by someone else. In contrast, Asian American preferred to the task that was
chosen by their trusted peoples more. This suggested that the level of self regulation were different
between European American and Asian American.
Different cultures have different practices of teaching children. These differences cause a
discrepancy in the way of self regulation. Hence, cultural factors may predict children s ability to
self regulate.
Human beings are social animals and easily influenced by the surrounding environment. As
mentioned before, newborn infants direct experiences are limited, so their interactive caregivers

Symbolism In William Jennings Bryan s The Wonderful...
During the late 1800 s, a pervasive sense of melancholy permeated throughout the forgotten, dreary
Midwestern United States. While the industrial revolution boosted the economy on the coasts,
Midwestern farmers were victims of deflationary debt increases, exorbitant shipping and railroad
rates, a high protective tariff, and a government that for the most part ignored them.1 Desperate
circumstances moved the everyday American farmers to join together and voice their grievances.
Instead of seeking federal aid or economic relief, they attempted to use the power of the ballot to
achieve their goals.1 The united group of farmers used the Populist Partyas a springboard to launch
their complaints and eventually got their candidate, William Jennings Bryan, nominated for the
presidential election of 1896 by the Democratic Party. L. Frank Baum, a newspaper writer who
lived in a small prairie town in South Dakota, experienced the populist wave firsthand, attending
Bryan s famous Cross of Gold speech in Chicago, and subtly incorporated many aspects of Bryan s
campaign into his children s novel, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.2 Despite his own claim that this
novel was written solely for the entertainment of the children of today , several historians have
discovered that the book clearly reflects the culture of the time period in which it was written.3 By
symbolically representing the struggles of the everyday working man, Bryan s political enemies,

The Impossibility of Governmental Regulation on Healthcare...
At this particular stage, it is impossible for governmental entities to effectively regulate each and
every instance of health care service. This facet is particularly true for cases of international
health care services. There are several different types of health care services provided for
international travelers. The lack of effective regulation of these services can actually aid a number
of different consumers in different ways.
For instance, the entity known as Traveler s Health can potentially aid consumers by awarding
health services and benefits to those who are not American citizens. The services and products of
this entity are supposed to be exclusively reserved for U.S. citizens. If individuals can falsify
documents to fake their status as an American, they can then claim some of these benefits.
Also, in instances in which there are American travelers who have been overseas for a substantial
length of time, once their paperwork and credentials expire, they would no longer be eligible to
receive these services. A regulatory oversight of this fact would enable such travelers (or expatriates
in this instance) to continue to receive these benefits.
Another purpose of this particular entity is to promote the clinical practice of travel medicine
(Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2011). Legitimate U.S. citizens who qualify for the
attainment of such medicine could potentially acquire it and supply it to locals if there were
oversight in regulations in

published in 1925, the time when the jazz age at it s peak, The great Gatsbyby Francis Scott Key
Fitzgerald and Soldier s Home by Ernest Hemingway depict the fragmentation of the soared
society by narrating the experience of characters. Soldiers Home and The Great Gatsby show
some aspect of the society at their time, though not as a major intent of the books, and we can
see how the trend of the society influenced people. Both pieces of work have settings in the same
time period, 1920s, but slightly different interval. In Soldier s Home, Krebs returned to his
hometown about one year after the war. The celebration has already ended and people get to their
daily life, after enough talks over the events experienced by the returning soldiers. There s a scene
about Krebs sitting on the bench, seeing the pretty girls on the street, He has the thought Nothing

Hegemony In American Foreign Policy
Hegemony is one of few different logics pertaining to American foreign policy. It is defined as
preponderant influence or authority, especially of one nation over another (Callahan, 2004, p. 12).
In other words, the United States can be seen as the dominate nation over all other nations. This
concept was first mentioned in Notes on the Southern Question (1926) by Antonio Gramsciand was
defined as a system of class alliance in which a hegemonic class exercised political leadership over
subaltern classes by winning them over (Ramos Jr., 1982). The logic of hegemony, as it relates to
American foreign policy, is based on the idea that the United Stateswould use its influence over
other countries in order to provide leadership. Through

Before even acknowledging the dialogue, the image is situating Harley between innocence the
teddy bear and as a sexual figure to appease the male gaze Superman. Superman is one of the first
superhero comic books, and from its origins, Superman has been marketed towards men like so
many comic books before 1950. As previously discussed, female characters were drawn in pin up

Harley s body is physically being placed between the moment of childhood and innocence and

Video Games Outweigh The Positive Effects
The essay s audience will be parents that are trying to decide whether or not their children should
be allowed to play video games or parents that have already decided to not let their children play
them. These parents may be under the belief that video games have only negative effects on their
child s cognitive, physical, and social states, or that the negative effects of playing video games
outweigh the positive effects. This audience only needs a simple understanding of what video
games are; they do not have to be knowledgeable as to the different genres of games or their titles
etc. The parents also may be misinformed by the stereotypes that surround playing video games,
such as that video games turn their child s brainto mush, or that video games could make their
child exhibit violent tendencies. These parents are expected to have children in or around the
fourth grade level, which would put them at around nine to ten years of age. This age group was
chosen because at this age the child is undergoing a lot of psychological growth, and this
development greatly affects what kind of person the child will be in the future. Parents or people
planning to have children need this information because their children are missing out on the many
benefits of video games if they are not allowed the opportunity to play them. Some children may
not be able to blossom socially as much if they do not have the opportunity to make connections to
people through video games. Children that

The Effects Of Socialization In The Lost Boys Of Africa
Every being in their lives will experience the effects of socialization throughout their lives, and the
Lost Boys of Africa are no exception. In anything, the Lost Boys, in some ways, may have been
exposed to a greater number of sociological constructs than most American children their age. From
the effects of dependency theory, to ethnic discriminationand prejudice that began in their homeland
of Sudan and followed them to the United States, and experiencing problems with assimilation,
these boys have truly showed effects of socialization. Perhaps the first sociological construct
demonstrated in the film was the effects of Dependency Theory. Much of Africa has a history of
being colonized by Europe at some point in its history, and in the case of Sudan, it was largely
under British control. Under British rule, Sudan was essentially divided into Northern and Southern
regions. While the North continued to practice its traditions and language, Christianity and the
English language began to spread throughout the South. When the British left Sudan, the
superpower attempted to prepare the country for self government by establishing a parliament. The
problem was that this new government was established predominantly in the North with little
representation of Southern Sudan. After the British left, years of conflict quickly arose and
eventually lead to civil war. According to the conflict theory of dependency, Sudan was taken
advantage of, then eventually left on its own. One

Analysis Of The Bluest Eye
In The Bluest Eye, Pecola the protagonist is taken under the Macteer family s wing much like The
African family is community based and the nurturing quality is not contained within the nuclear
family, but is rather the responsibility of the entire community (Ranström). In traditional Africa
each child has a place and is welcome in the community. The act of parenting another child was not
odd because every adult that lived in each community believed that any child is welcome in anyone
s home. This, however, is not the case for Pecola. Although traditional African culture was
integrated into The Bluest Eye, it was not fully combined. Pecola lives in a very abusive
household and always wonders to herself, what if she were white, what if she had blue eyes? Would
it change things, hopefully for the better?
Pecola obsesses over all things white because the town makes fun of her blackness. Pecola is
alone due to her lack of beauty. In one scene Pecola is laughed at called e mo and other names as
other black children make fun of her blackness. Morrisons uses collective voice to show the racial

The Importance Of The Film Inception
Planning and shooting play key roles in creating a work of art through film that has meaning and
can provoke emotions in an audience. Cinematography encompasses these tasks and other factors
that contribute to a film s production, ranging from styling variables like color and contrast to the
types of camera lenses used to camera positions used while filming. While a director or producer
has the primary voice in determining what a filmwill consist of, the cinematographerdoes more than
any other person working on the film to mold a director s vision into reality. These individuals
have the crucial task of creating and framing every visual that will appear in a movie.
There are few cinematographers who do this in as compelling of a way as the cinematographer for
the film Inception, Wally Pfister. Pfister has worked on many notable films and has been
nominated for several awards, but he won his Academy Award for Best Cinematographyfor the
2010 film.
Despite the controversy and debate that surround the film, one can easily see the merits of the
film s cinematography that earned Inception the Oscar. The film contains visual elements that
leave the audience in awe, as it takes the viewer into a dream world that has not been explored by
many other big motion pictures. The dream sequences we observe are in every way larger than

Why Does Catalase Decomposes Hydrogen Peroxide
The purpose of this lab was to study some characteristics of enzyme action by investigating how the
enzyme catalase decomposes hydrogen peroxide. It connects to our unit about enzymes because it
illustrates how enzymes decompose their substrates and their rate of decomposition. In the graph of
the more accurate experiment, it shows that the amount of product (in mL) gradually increased over
time until at about 120 seconds. After that, it would just gradually begin to plateau meaning enzyme
activity would no longer increase. Overall, both sets of data show that the amount of H2O2
decomposed gradually increased over time, and after a certain time, the number would stop
climbing. The purpose of the potassium permanganate, or KMnO4, was to titrate the H2O2 in the
solution, which we could then use to figure out how much of it was decomposed.... Show more

We could use the H2O4 because acids will interfere with hydrogen bonds and other IMFs in the
enzyme which would denature it, permanently making the enzyme unable to work. The catalase was
the enzyme that acted on the product, which was hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). And of course, the
hydrogen peroxide, or H2O2, was the substrate and the catalase was the enzyme. Our results
seemed to be consistent because once we added the necessary amount that was needed to
determine the amount of H2O2 in the solution, the color of the solution afterwards would
always be a light, clear brown, as opposed to having various colors and shades each time. This
means that we added the correct, proportional amount of potassium permanganate each time. In
comparison to the class data, less of our H2O2 was decomposed. For example, for the trial for 30
seconds, 0.6 mL of our H2O2 was decomposed while the average for the class data was 2.22

Physical Therapy Experience
Hello everyone, The physical therapist first encounter with a patient often serves as a telltale of
what to expect and how to go about the therapeutic relationship. The initial contact with a patient
gives the therapist an impressive view of the tip of the iceberg, in a way it provides important

premise that the mind and body are inseparable, and these two realms work in synergy to define a

Volcano Research Paper
Volcanoes can be found throughout the entire world and are formed when there is a rupture in the
mantle of the Earth s crust. This effect allows the output of volcanic lava, ash, and various types of

2.8.8.2. However, magnesium has 12 electrons thus, an electronic configuration of 2.8.2 . In other
words, calcium has four electron shells but magnesium has three making it easier for calcium to

Thus, Chlorine would be the most electronegative, followed by Bromine and finally Iodine. Plus,
a higher halogen will be able to displace a lower halogen from its halide solution. The next
concept is the reaction between an alkali metal and water, specifically sodium metal and water.
Before the reaction, the sodium metal was stored in kerosene to prevent it from reacting with
the moisture or oxygen that is in the air. This is because sodium is a very reactive metal and will
easily react with the moisture present in the air to form sodium hydroxide. This is an extremely
strong exothermic reaction and a lot of heat is generated. Moving on, when sodium is placed into
a test tube containing water and phenolphtalein, a vigorous reaction takes place where sodium
hydroxide along with hydrogen gas is formed. The presence of the sodium hydroxide can
confirmed by the change in color of the phenolpthalein to pink while the presence of the hydrogen
gas can be confirmed by placing a glowing wooden splinter into the test tube and hearing a pop
sound.
The last concept is comparing the reactivity of metals specifically magnesium and

Fur Elise Research Paper
Fur Elise, German for For Elise, is unquestionably one of Beethoven s achievements. Not only is
it a masterpiece, but it s a mystery piece. To know Beethoven, one would say the genius was
revolutionary, a true extremist. However, he was a troubled man, a musical brainiac who lost his
hearing late in life. With this said, Beethoven never heard his last pieces, including Bagatelle.
Later, Bagatelle was given its nickname, Fur Elise. Why? Well, that s the mystery. Some scholars
believe Fur Elise or For Elise is actually For Therese. Therese von Brunswick [Therese Malfatti?]
was the woman thought to have stolen Beethoven s heart. The gossip is a] Beethoven proposed to
Therese and she acknowledged his love but later changed her mind, or b]

The world has changed a lot in the past decade, the development of new technology and the
changing of health care has improved tremendously. Digital innovation have made it possible
nowadays for consumers to use as a portable devices to access their medical information and able

human limitations by mechanical elements built into the body (Duus and Cooray, 2015).
Nowadays cyborgs not only mean extended beyond normal human limitations but can be a part

Andrew Carnegie and the the Second Industrial Revolution...
Andrew Carnegie and the the Second Industrial Revolution Andrew Carnegie, the King of Steel ,
the benevolent employer, the giant of industry, was among the greatest influences of the second
industrial revolution. It is sometimes questioned whether Carnegie was the ruthless, sneaky steel
tyrant some made him out to be, or the generous, benevolent education benefactor he appeared to
be. I believe him to be a combination of both, but more so the great giant of industry. Carnegie
was the classic rags to riches story, the penniless immigrant who made it big in the land of
opportunity. Carnegie was born in Dunfermline, Scotland, and migrated to America in 1848 at the
age of 13. His first job was in a cotton mill, earning a measly $1.20... Show more content on

As young as 33, Carnegie was pulling in an annual income of $50,000 a year, a huge amount at
that time, and this was enough for him. Carnegie was a firm believer that anyone could make it
to the top, and that it was the wealthys duty to help the poor work towards a more comfortable
life. Carnegie said that the man who dies rich, dies disgraced. This is a greedy, unselfish
philosophy that a robber baron could not conceive. Without Carnegie, the steel industry, and the
second industrial revolution in general, would never have progressed as much as it did.
Carnegie did what was necessary to make the steel industry more productive and more efficient,
for less money. He was a shrewd, ruthless, businessman who s aggressiveness made the steel,
railroad, and oil industries so economically successful. These characteristics, though not always
looked upon as nice or sympathetic, were sometimes necessary. He had paid his time as a poor
factory boy, and now it was his turn to live comfortably and aid others less fortunate to work
towards the same success. I feel that Carnegie was a very generous and benevolent philanthropist
in his giving of hundreds of millions of dollars to schools, libraries, arts and music centers, and
other educational and recreational facilities. However, I believe it would have been more ethical to

Analysis Of Dan Brown s Angels And Demons
The book I choose for this marking period was Angels and Demons by Dan Brown. Dan Brown s
father was a math teacher and his mother was a church organist. This background paved the path
where he developed a fascination with science and religion. These are themes seen in all of his
books, especially this one, where he uses the idea that science and religion are intertwined. I felt
that this story, driven by the theme of science and religion being the same thing, was a
refreshing story that stood out from what I have read recently. It gave me the opportunity to
think about the question he poses from the beginning, Is religion, specifically Christianity, the
same as science, just from a different perspective? Being Christian myself, it made me question
several of my ideas and opinions and forced me to become opened minded to the ideas that
Brown gives. After reading this book, I felt as if I understood why the church has been so against
science, and it reinforced my opinion and whether or not that was the right stance to have. This
book reminds us to think open mindedly about the connection between the church and science,
and to never allow ourselves to be so stubborn in our beliefs to realize the good that can come of
either. I also believe that even if a person has no stance on science and religion, or is indifferent to
it, it will still teach them new perspectives to think about.
The story involves Robert Langdon, a professor of religious iconology and symbology at

Female Fibroids Research Paper
Uterine fibroids are very common, causing symptoms in about 25 percent of women. Fibroids are
benign, or noncancerous, tumors that grow in the walls of the uterus. It s not understood why
fibroids develop, but scientists and doctors believe that genetics may play a role.
There are several factors that put women at a greater risk for developing fibroids. These factors
include:
Age: Most women who get fibroids are between the ages 18 and 45. In African Americans, fibroids
are often found at an earlier age. After menopause, fibroids typically shrink.
Nulliparity: Women who have never been pregnant, or haven t carried a pregnancy past 20 weeks,
are at a higher risk of developing the growths.
Family History: Women with family members that have had fibroids are at an increased likelihood
of developing them. Some research shows that if a woman s mother had fibroids, she is three times
as likely to develop them. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Weight: Women who are overweight are at a high risk for developing the growths. For very obese
women, the likelihood of fibroids is two to three times greater.
Just because a risk factor is present, doesn t mean that a woman will develop fibroids. Most
women who are diagnosed with fibroids, however, do have one of the following 10 symptoms.
1. Heavy Vaginal Bleeding
Women with fibroids may have very heavy bleeding during their menstrual periods or may bleed in
between cycles. This bleeding can be heavy enough to cause anemia in some women.
2. Infertility
Fibroids are one of the leading causes of infertility. This is because fibroids can cause an obstruction
in the fallopian tubes, which prevents the fertilized egg from descending into the uterus and
implanting.
3. Recurring

He has been battling with anxiety and depression, a disorder he is being treated with. He reports that he has been suffering from Insomnia for several years and only turned worse about 7 years ago. He is troubled with sleep initiation, which usually takes him over one hour to fall asleep. As soon as he is asleep, he wakes up several times, which makes him to struggle again to go back to sleep. He turns in bed without sleep until dawn when he gets up feeling fatigued and drained. The major diagnosis is DSM 5 insomniadisorder. Given the comorbid indications of obstructive sleep apneaand depression, it would perhaps be hard to assess whether Mr. M has DSM IV primary insomnia since DSM 5 enables the clinician to generate an unpremeditated attribution between obstructive sleep disorderand insomnia. • 3. The Hurt Locker and Zero Dark s Use of Language to Portray... How do Kathryn Bigelow s films The Hurt Locker and Zero Dark Thirty use language to portray the life of combatants in a battle? Introduction Kathryn Bigelow is one of the most iconic directors of the modern era. Her sense of depicting language remains unopposed. She is known for her specialty films of the war genre. Several of her works have been greatly appreciated, such as The Weight of Water, The Hurt Locker , Zero Dark Thirty, etc. These have won her several awards and secured her place as one of the most influential directors of all time. Essay The Hurt Locker is a slow paced film. Most of the scenes have been deeply elaborated with excessive portrayal on the character s expression. Set during Iraq War, it illustrates the lives of three soldiers who have the most terrifyingly dangerous jobs in the world working in a bomb disposal squad. They risk their lives every day to provide safety to the society they are aiding. It is an extremely harsh and touching film, which depicts the message that when you love something and keeping repeating it, it becomes an obsession and you cannot live without it. Most of the characters in the film can be interconnected to the actors where he/she have an unsafe passion. There are several metaphors buried in each scene which, when examined carefully, reveal the political meaning. The lead character of The Hurt Locker, Sergeant First Class William James, is, metaphorically, a character representation of America, often putting him and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Reflection Defined By Boyd And Fales Reflection Reflection defined by Boyd and Fales (1983) as the process of internally examining and exploring an issue of concern, triggered by an experience, which creates or clarifies meaning in terms of the self and which changes individuals conceptual perspective (Seibert and Daudelin, 1999:20). Additionally, Boyd and Fales also demonstrated that reflection is the key to learning from experience (Seibert and Daudelin, 1999:20). Whereas, Moon (2004:80) had defined reflecting as a process in which we reflect in order to learn something or we learn as a result of reflecting. Rolfe et al (2001) model was also based on reflection but his focus was on the What model?. His approach is mostly used with nurses as it would facilitate with three different stages (a) what? Is the problem, role did I have, actions did I take, did I hope to achieve, was my reaction to it, was good or bad (b) so what? Does it tell me about my skills, could I have done differently (c) now what? Do I need to do differently to improve it, other issues I need to consider for the future? These three stages can help stimulate reflection (Morrissey and Callaghan, 2011:36). Using Rolfe et al (2001) model on my volunteering role, I was able to reflect back and question (a) what did I hope to achieve? I hope to achieve the knowledge based around a family support worker both intellectual and also physical. (b) so what could I have done differently? Reflecting back I could have spoken in front of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Chorus Of Sophocles Antigone Introduction A large part of Greek culture were the religious festivals that occurred once a year. Furthermore, during these festivals the greeks would honor their gods. The Festival of Dionysus honored the god of fertility, revelry and wine (Reinhold 1959). The author of Antigone, Sophocles had participated in one of these festivals and won the award for his performance. He did not become known as one of the greatest playwrights then. Only now is he thought of as one of the greatest playwrights during the greek era. The point of this paper is to show how the chorus in Greek Theater tragedy performances affect the way the play Antigone is performed. Through the use of mask, staging, and speech, Sophocles best distinguishes the chorus. Sophocles most famous playwright is Antigone which was written around 441 b.c. (Reinhold 1959). The odes for the chorus is why this playwright is famous. In order to perform Antigone, a director would need to understand numerous things relating to the chorus: where the chorus adds structure of the play, traditional Greek staging, mask and type of costumes in the play. Antigone and her sister decide to return to Thebes with the intention of helping their brothers (Eteocles and Polyneices) avoid a prophecy which predicts they will kill each other in a battle for the throne of Thebes (Samooh Theater 2014). Unfortunately for the brothers, the prophecy fulfills itself . Antigone returns home to find out that her brothers are dead. Her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 14. Difference Between Modernist And Modernism Modernist Postmodernist Design in 20th century is influenced on modernist and postmodernist philosophies. Before development of Modernism, taste was dictated to the wealthy classes by the whims of the king or other Г©lite figures (emperors come to mind). Tradition was the dictated rule and deviating from that resulted in ridicule. The idea of Modernism was the basis for 20th Century design, fashion and art. It still affects us today. Ironically, Modernism evolved from looking to the past, at a time when mass production and consumption had taken over from style and taste. In the mid 19th Century, groups of designers rebelled against mass production and used the best of what the past could offer to bring a new attitude towards taste and style. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Post modernism is made up of many sub cultures and genres with different particular aims. The best, simple definition which we can use is that post modernism is a reaction against modernism and responds to the social and political issues of today. Modernism was destined to disappoint as it continued to preoccupy itself with the reductionist chase for empirical fact. Post modernism often produces what appears to be fiction which grows or matures towards fact. Postmodernism shattered established ideas about style and brought a radical freedom to art and design. At its height in the 1980s, postmodern designers such as the Memphis group, Alessi and Arad, contributed to the new wave: a few thrilling years when image was everything. Postmodernism challenges the traditional cultural values of today s societies, in particular, western society. Life today is radically different to what it was fifty or even thirty years ago. The traditional values of marriage and family no longer exist; with women having the same status in the work place as men and also not settling down until later in life. • 17. Rudyard Kipling s Ethhos And Ethos Journal Two: Ethos Aristotle defined ethos as how messages persuade as a result of the communicator s character. He claimed that this was most important in the list of the three rhetorical appeals. The reason was because that person has to be a trustworthy speaker to the audience, but that requires have practictical intelligence, virtuous character, and good will. Rudyard Kipling has an automatic ethos built to his audience because the intended audience was his son, and there is an automatic father son bond established. Kipling can use this bond to his favor while trying to convey his message, because the trust will heighten the chance of the son taking the advice the father is trying to give him. If a stranger was trying to give the same advice without any background, it wouldn t be as powerful nor personal to the son and he wouldn t know where the scenarios were coming from. By Kipling being the communicator, he is meeting all three of the criteria for strong ethos according to Aristotle s ideology. Kipling has the practical intelligence from parenting, age, and experience. He has virtuous character through the life experiences that he has been through and he has good will by his helpful intention with his knowledge towards the subject. The communicator s investments in the issue are present because of who he has decided to direct his piece towards. Writing to his son will evoke a change in his writing as well because of the emotional ties. He is not just trying to expose his past to let the world see his mistakes, but rather materialize them on paper to show his son mistakes to prevent future mishaps. He has the credibility as being the leader and one that his son looks up to, so showing his son how to be a Man will be something that will spark interest. His credibility as a speaker is strengthened because the connection to these past experiences as well. This will also impact what he chooses to say in during his piece. • 19. Being Frugal Research Paper We all want to save money and often times go the extra mile to do so, but is there a such thing as too frugal ? Definitely! Here s how to gauge when you re taking it a bit too far! Deprivation: Frugality comes from sparing resources while still meeting your basic needs. Being frugal should never mean that you are depriving yourself from the basics, i.e food. When budgeting and determining what changes you re making to your spending habits the most important thing is to make sure your needs are met regardless. While the industrial revolution boosted the economy on the coasts, Midwestern farmers were victims of deflationary debt increases, exorbitant shipping and railroad rates, a high protective tariff, and a government that for the most part ignored them.1 Desperate circumstances moved the everyday American farmers to join together and voice their grievances. Instead of seeking federal aid or economic relief, they attempted to use the power of the ballot to achieve their goals.1 The united group of farmers used the Populist Partyas a springboard to launch their complaints and eventually got their candidate, William Jennings Bryan, nominated for the presidential election of 1896 by the Democratic Party. L. Frank Baum, a newspaper writer who lived in a small prairie town in South Dakota, experienced the populist wave firsthand, attending Bryan s famous Cross of Gold speech in Chicago, and subtly incorporated many aspects of Bryan s campaign into his children s novel, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.2 Despite his own claim that this novel was written solely for the entertainment of the children of today , several historians have discovered that the book clearly reflects the culture of the time period in which it was written.3 By symbolically representing the struggles of the everyday working man, Bryan s political enemies, and the campaign for free silver, Baum ... At this particular stage, it is impossible for governmental entities to effectively regulate each and every instance of health care service. This facet is particularly true for cases of international health care services. There are several different types of health care services provided for international travelers. The lack of effective regulation of these services can actually aid a number of different consumers in different ways. For instance, the entity known as Traveler s Health can potentially aid consumers by awarding health services and benefits to those who are not American citizens. The services and products of this entity are supposed to be exclusively reserved for U.S. citizens. If individuals can falsify documents to fake their status as an American, they can then claim some of these benefits. Also, in instances in which there are American travelers who have been overseas for a substantial length of time, once their paperwork and credentials expire, they would no longer be eligible to receive these services. A regulatory oversight of this fact would enable such travelers (or expatriates in this instance) to continue to receive these benefits. Another purpose of this particular entity is to promote the clinical practice of travel medicine (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2011). In anything, the Lost Boys, in some ways, may have been exposed to a greater number of sociological constructs than most American children their age. From the effects of dependency theory, to ethnic discriminationand prejudice that began in their homeland of Sudan and followed them to the United States, and experiencing problems with assimilation, these boys have truly showed effects of socialization. Perhaps the first sociological construct demonstrated in the film was the effects of Dependency Theory. Much of Africa has a history of being colonized by Europe at some point in its history, and in the case of Sudan, it was largely under British control. Under British rule, Sudan was essentially divided into Northern and Southern regions. While the North continued to practice its traditions and language, Christianity and the English language began to spread throughout the South. When the British left Sudan, the superpower attempted to prepare the country for self government by establishing a parliament. The problem was that this new government was established predominantly in the North with little representation of Southern Sudan. In traditional Africa each child has a place and is welcome in the community. Why Does Catalase Decomposes Hydrogen Peroxide The purpose of this lab was to study some characteristics of enzyme action by investigating how the enzyme catalase decomposes hydrogen peroxide. It connects to our unit about enzymes because it illustrates how enzymes decompose their substrates and their rate of decomposition. In the graph of the more accurate experiment, it shows that the amount of product (in mL) gradually increased over time until at about 120 seconds. After that, it would just gradually begin to plateau meaning enzyme activity would no longer increase. Overall, both sets of data show that the amount of H2O2 decomposed gradually increased over time, and after a certain time, the number would stop climbing. The purpose of the potassium permanganate, or KMnO4, was to titrate the H2O2 in the solution, which we could then use to figure out how much of it was decomposed.... This means that we added the correct, proportional amount of potassium permanganate each time. In comparison to the class data, less of our H2O2 was decomposed. This is because calcium has 20 electrons thus, an electronic configuration of 2.8.8.2. However, magnesium has 12 electrons thus, an electronic configuration of 2.8.2 . In other words, calcium has four electron shells but magnesium has three making it easier for calcium to lose an electron as the distance between the nucleus and the electrons in calcium is further ... Plus, a higher halogen will be able to displace a lower halogen from its halide solution. The next concept is the reaction between an alkali metal and water, specifically sodium metal and water. Before the reaction, the sodium metal was stored in kerosene to prevent it from reacting with the moisture or oxygen that is in the air. This is because sodium is a very reactive metal and will easily react with the moisture present in the air to form sodium hydroxide. This is an extremely strong exothermic reaction and a lot of heat is generated. Moving on, when sodium is placed into a test tube containing water and phenolphtalein, a vigorous reaction takes place where sodium hydroxide along with hydrogen gas is formed. The presence of the sodium hydroxide can confirmed by the change in color of the phenolpthalein to pink while the presence of the hydrogen gas can be confirmed by placing a glowing wooden splinter into the test tube and hearing a pop sound. The last concept is comparing the reactivity of metals specifically magnesium and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Fur Elise Research Paper Fur Elise, German for For Elise, is unquestionably one of Beethoven s achievements. Not only is it a masterpiece, but it s a mystery piece. To know Beethoven, one would say the genius was revolutionary, a true extremist. However, he was a troubled man, a musical brainiac who lost his hearing late in life. With this said, Beethoven never heard his last pieces, including Bagatelle. Later, Bagatelle was given its nickname, Fur Elise. Why? Well, that s the mystery. Some scholars believe Fur Elise or For Elise is actually For Therese. Therese von Brunswick [Therese Malfatti?] was the woman thought to have stolen Beethoven s heart. Digital innovation have made it possible nowadays for consumers to use as a portable devices to access their medical information and able to monitor their daily lifestyle, physical and psychological habit. We no longer have to look to the science fictions book to find the cyborg, we are cyborgs now. According to the dictionary cyborg is a fictional or hypothetical person whose physical abilities are extended beyond normal human limitations by mechanical elements built into the body (Duus and Cooray, 2015). Nowadays cyborgs not only mean extended beyond normal human limitations but can be a part of your body part. From the device we carry around like wearable technology is now considered as a cyborgs (2015). • 44. Andrew Carnegie and the the Second Industrial Revolution... Andrew Carnegie and the the Second Industrial Revolution Andrew Carnegie, the King of Steel , the benevolent employer, the giant of industry, was among the greatest influences of the second industrial revolution. It is sometimes questioned whether Carnegie was the ruthless, sneaky steel tyrant some made him out to be, or the generous, benevolent education benefactor he appeared to be. I believe him to be a combination of both, but more so the great giant of industry. Carnegie was the classic rags to riches story, the penniless immigrant who made it big in the land of opportunity. Carnegie was born in Dunfermline, Scotland, and migrated to America in 1848 at the age of 13. His first job was in a cotton mill, earning a measly $1.20... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As young as 33, Carnegie was pulling in an annual income of $50,000 a year, a huge amount at that time, and this was enough for him. Carnegie was a firm believer that anyone could make it to the top, and that it was the wealthys duty to help the poor work towards a more comfortable life. Carnegie said that the man who dies rich, dies disgraced. This is a greedy, unselfish philosophy that a robber baron could not conceive. Without Carnegie, the steel industry, and the second industrial revolution in general, would never have progressed as much as it did. Carnegie did what was necessary to make the steel industry more productive and more efficient, for less money. He was a shrewd, ruthless, businessman who s aggressiveness made the steel, railroad, and oil industries so economically successful. These characteristics, though not always looked upon as nice or sympathetic, were sometimes necessary. He had paid his time as a poor factory boy, and now it was his turn to live comfortably and aid others less fortunate to work towards the same success. I feel that Carnegie was a very generous and benevolent philanthropist in his giving of hundreds of millions of dollars to schools, libraries, arts and music centers, and other educational and recreational facilities. However, I believe it would have been more ethical to be more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Analysis Of Dan Brown s Angels And Demons The book I choose for this marking period was Angels and Demons by Dan Brown. Dan Brown s father was a math teacher and his mother was a church organist. This background paved the path where he developed a fascination with science and religion. These are themes seen in all of his books, especially this one, where he uses the idea that science and religion are intertwined. I felt that this story, driven by the theme of science and religion being the same thing, was a refreshing story that stood out from what I have read recently. It gave me the opportunity to think about the question he poses from the beginning, Is religion, specifically Christianity, the same as science, just from a different perspective? Being Christian myself, it made me question several of my ideas and opinions and forced me to become opened minded to the ideas that Brown gives. After reading this book, I felt as if I understood why the church has been so against science, and it reinforced my opinion and whether or not that was the right stance to have. This book reminds us to think open mindedly about the connection between the church and science, and to never allow ourselves to be so stubborn in our beliefs to realize the good that can come of either. I also believe that even if a person has no stance on science and religion, or is indifferent to it, it will still teach them new perspectives to think about. The story involves Robert Langdon, a professor of religious iconology and symbology at ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Female Fibroids Research Paper Uterine fibroids are very common, causing symptoms in about 25 percent of women. Fibroids are benign, or noncancerous, tumors that grow in the walls of the uterus. It s not understood why fibroids develop, but scientists and doctors believe that genetics may play a role. There are several factors that put women at a greater risk for developing fibroids. These factors include: Age: Most women who get fibroids are between the ages 18 and 45. In African Americans, fibroids are often found at an earlier age. After menopause, fibroids typically shrink. Nulliparity: Women who have never been pregnant, or haven t carried a pregnancy past 20 weeks, are at a higher risk of developing the growths. Family History: Women with family members that have had fibroids are at an increased likelihood of developing them. Some research shows that if a woman s mother had fibroids, she is three times as likely to develop them. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Weight: Women who are overweight are at a high risk for developing the growths. For very obese women, the likelihood of fibroids is two to three times greater. Just because a risk factor is present, doesn t mean that a woman will develop fibroids. Most women who are diagnosed with fibroids, however, do have one of the following 10 symptoms. 1. Heavy Vaginal Bleeding Women with fibroids may have very heavy bleeding during their menstrual periods or may bleed in between cycles. This bleeding can be heavy enough to cause anemia in some women. 2. Infertility Fibroids are one of the leading causes of infertility. This is because fibroids can cause an obstruction in the fallopian tubes, which prevents the fertilized egg from descending into the uterus and implanting. 3. Recurring ...
