A Raid On The Oyster Pirates Jack London
An autobiographical sketch is when the author writes about their own experience. This is
exactly what Jack London does in his story A Raid on the Oyster Pirates . London is very skilled
in the art of character development. This explains how he was able to create such developed
characters to the point where they almost seem like real people. In A Raid on the Oyster Pirates
by Jack London a lot of detail is shown through Charley, Mr. Taft, and Centipede in terms of how
they act and speak. Charley is a good friend of the narrator. He can be viewed as very forgiving
because of how he treated the oyster pirates after they were caught stealing oysters from Mr. Taft.
After the oyster pirates Charley stated, You can dry your clothes here, lads, and get some hot
coffee (London). Even after they stole from him and his friends Charley... Show more content on

Centipede is viewed as very sly and deceitful. After being confronted my Mr. Taft about stealing
his oysters, his response was, Now, in my experience, broke in the tall man, oysters is oysters
wherever you find em, an they re pretty much alike all the Bay over, and the world over, too, for
that matter. We re not wantin to quarrel with you, Mr. Taft, but we jes wish you wouldn t
insinuate that them oysters is yours an that we re thieves an robbers till you can prove the goods
(London). This shows how dishonest he is. Even after being caught he still decided to lie in Mr.
Taft s face and make him feel foolish about accusing him for the crime. In conclusion, in A Raid
on the Oyster Pirates by Jack London a lot of detail is shown through Charley, Mr. Taft, and
Centipede in terms of how they act and speak. Being an oyster pirate himself back in the day
really helped Jack London in a big way when it came to writing this story. Considering he was
writing about his own experiences, it must have been very easy for him to make these characters feel

Developmental Theories That Assist Social Workers Essay
Developmental theories are integral to a social workers approach when working with children,
and families as they help to guide and explain situations and behaviours. As social workers have
an ethical and professional responsibility to their clients, they need to have an established set of
guiding theories which underpin their practice. If they work without these theories, they could
place their clients at risk of harm by practising from personal assumptions. They also help the
social worker understand and manage these situations and to reach the desired outcomes. As
suggested by Teater (2014), Theory is an essential ingredient in practice that guides the way in
which social workers view and approach individuals, groups, communities and society (Chap 1,
p.1). This report will identify and focus on three important developmental theories that assist
social workers in their practice. These consist of work by Erikson, Bowlby and Piaget. Erikson s
theory focuses on the model of life stage development; Piaget s theory focuses on the cognitive
processes while Bowlby s theory focuses on attachment. Despite these theories representing
different aspects of social science, they all have the same guiding principle of development. Once
the social worker has identified the relevant theory required, they then use a model to implement
the theory. This report will examine and discuss the Collaborative Family Work Model. The
Collaborative Family Work Model works in a step by step approach

Depression In Bartleby, The Scrivener And A Hunger Artist
Depression is a negative feeling of hopelessness and feeling like you don t belong. It can affect
anyone at anytime without warning. Being in such a depressed neurological state makes people
act certain ways and do certain things. According to the medical research group Mayo Clinic:
Depression is a mood disorder that causes a persistent feeling of sadness and loss of interest.
Also called major depressive disorder or clinical depression, it affects how you feel, think and
behave and can lead to a variety of emotional and physical problems. You may have trouble doing
normal day to day activities, and sometimes you may feel as if life isn t worth living. So this
quote explains why depression is significant and problematic to an individual. Depression is a
recurring theme in the two stories Herman Melville s Bartleby, the Scrivener and Franz Kafka s
A Hunger Artist . The stories have a connection of depression because each character develops
similar tendencies such as loss of appetite, lack of motivation, and insomnia. The authors of the
short stories experienced similar effects in their lifetime so the stories were influenced by their
personal lives. Herman Melville, famous American writer, [D]eveloped debilitating physical and
psychiatric disorders in middle age after writing, perhaps, the greatest of American novels, Moby
Dick. Melville suffered shortly after writing Moby Dick and wrote Bartleby, the Scrivener few
years later. Melville s personal life was relatable

What Are The Variables And Variables Of The Decisions Of...
Interrelated variables account for the decisions of per capita purchases for adults in considering
automobile acquisitions. Most mainstream automotive manufacturers offer different models to fit
each market segment based primarily on the customer s age, purchasing power, and lifestyle.
Depending on the market segment that an individual can enter into based upon their budget
restrictions, a myriad of options are available based on one s lifestyle and automotive
requirements. Today, automobile manufacturers offer compacts, intermediates, large, and
premium size vehicles with correlating body styles such as coupe, sedan, sport utility, pickup
trucks, and even crossovers. Utilizing a popular automobile manufacturer for an example of this
observation, Toyota is currently considered to be the world s largest automobile company (Holt,
2015). As of late, Toyota has also been the most successful automotive company. Recently
plagued with accelerator, braking, and steering issues with their popular hybrid models, as well
as supply chain disruptions in Japan s recent tsunami disasters, Toyota has succumbed in its
success to Volkswagen with a recent posting of 5.04 million vehicles sold worldwide in the
second quarter of 2015 to Toyota s posting of 5.02 million vehicles sold worldwide (Tuttle,
2015). The loss of market share by Toyota was due, in part, to lack of contingency plans for supply
chain disruptions, which is liken to the biblical principle: where there is no vision,

Response Paper On Sexual Offenders
Chapter 6: Response Paper
Sexual offenders refer to sexual acts against a victim s will and includes a wide range of behaviors
ranging from exposing oneself in a public place to rape. Probation and parole officers have the
difficult task of working with sexual offenders and trying to help them during their rehabilitation
process. From researching different sources, I have concluded that risk assessment, treatment,
supervision, and restrictions/registration have effectively helped by working with sexual offenders
in the community.
Risk assessment is useful as a validated tool that provides a gauge of the offender s tendency to
commit additional criminal activity and indicates the level of intervention necessary. According to
the NGA (1), Most of the currently used sex offender risk instruments are designed solely to
gather information on static factors, or those features of an individual s experience that are
unchangeable. These factors can be used to assess long term recidivism potential, but not to
identify treatment needs or to predict the timing of a re offense. The risk assessment is a
preventative strategy that helps probation officers assess the offender so they can determine
whether the offender is a risk to the community or what type of treatment they will need. A main
example of a risk assessment would be Static 99. According to Static99 (2), Static 99 is a ten item
actuarial assessment instrument created by R. Karl Hanson, PH.D. and David Thornton , Ph. D.

Lorraine Hansberry s Life As A Whole
I was born black and female. These two words black and female identified Lorraine Hansberry s
life as a whole. Hansberry was born on May 19, 1930 in Chicago. She was the third youngest out
of seven siblings. Her parents contributed a large amount of money to NAACP and the Urban
League, because of this Hansberry was never comfortable with her rich girl status, so instead she
identified herself as poor . She was admired by the children who were so often independent and
matured which she imitated. Later on in Hansberry early life, 1938, the Hansberry moved into a
white neighborhood where they were not welcomed and got attacked daily. Shortly after they

After her death, Nemiroff, her husband, still continued to collect and write her interviews in To
Be Young, Gifted and Black, which set off Broadway reviews and ran for eight months straight.
One of Hansberry s major works that was considered on Broadway was A Raisin in the Sun.
Hansberry received an award for this play in 1959, a couple years before her death. She received
the New York Critics Circle Award, which is considered to be one her best. Lorraine Hansberry was
the first African AmericanAuthor to be honored to produce her intelligent works that recognized
her past growing up on Broadway. With such traumatic memories of Hansberry s childhood, she
incorporated into her first play the theme of a courageous decision by a black family to move
into a hostage new environment setting, this theme was Racial Discrimination. Lorraine
Hansberry s most popular play, A Raisin in the Sun, deals with the crucial reaction of racism on
the life of the Younger s. The Youngers are a poor black family that lives on the South Side of
Chicago. As the play performs, the Younger family suffers from racial discrimination in the
housing industry and their lack of unemployment. The Youngers took on a risk as the racist
policies take the form of buying a house in a white neighborhood. The importance of the play is to
unravel. Foremost, it was the first play by a talented African American woman to be presented on
Broadway, and secondly, it foreshadows many issues

John Adams And Abraham Lincoln
Despite the disparity in the popularity ratings between the two presidents, John Adams and
Abraham Lincoln are both indispensable figures in American history. In times of crisis, both of
these men made big, consequential decisions to keep the country from falling apart. However,
while Lincoln is commemorated for abolishing slavery and leading the Union in the Civil War,
John Adamsis remembered for the mistakes of his presidency the Alien and Sedition Acts he issued
that took away certain constitutional rights endowed to the American people. Both presidents
thought they were doing what was necessary at the time to keep the United Statesfrom falling apart,
but the contrasting approaches they used left opposite impressions. This can be contributed to the
fact that almost all aspects of their lives, personal and professional, were opposite. So, while both
presidents essentially did the same thing in saving America from falling apart, their reputations are
so different now because of the way their lives and situations influenced the decisions they made.
HBO s John Adams begins in 1770, as the colonies are on their way to revolting against the
British Crown. The series begins with Adams life right before the revolution and follows the rest
of his life for the first fifty or so years of American history. Before having anything to do with
politics, John was a lawyer, a fairly successful one. He and his wife Abigail have an amazing
relationship. Abigail makes up for all of John s

. The fact that the mask on the killer can conceal the true identity of the killer, it provides moments
such as Sidney mixing up the caller with Randy.
When Sidney goes back into the house after being scared by the call, the killer emerges from the
closet. The music plays a big part in the sequence being led up to the moment that Sidney is
struggling face to face with the killer. We get a clear view from the masked killer which is
accompanied by a sharp sound from a piano which can cause a shocked or startled state.
Throughout, the film the music tends to be in favor of the killer as he lures behind his victim. In
this scene, the music builds to sudden jolt and thump to effectively engage the suspense. When the

New Belgium Case Analysis
Introduction
The New Belgium Brewing Company is one of the top three craft beer breweries in the nation. It
has experienced solid growth from its original entry as a niche marketer to a brand that is now
distributed across the country. Much of New Belgium s success is a result of a well developed
positioning strategy that promotes the company s culture as much as its product. Not
coincidentally, New Belgium s target market chooses brands like Fat Tire because of both the
company s culture and its product. Our evaluation of the two New Belgium cases indicates that the
craft beer industry remains an attractive investment for the company, particularly because of its
specific capabilities and resources. The cases also suggest that a ... Show more content on

New Belgium is, however, the third largest craft brewery in the nation, with estimated sales of
over $100 million, equaling approximately 700,000 barrels of beer per year. An analysis of the
craft beer industry as a whole suggests that there is continued growth potential for New Belgium.
Exhibit 5.1 of the New Belgium Brewing (B) case shows that craft beer is the fastest growing
segment of the U.S. alcoholic beverage market, with an increase in market share of over 100
percent from 1999 2011. It is also an industry whose customers tend to be extremely loyal,
making them less likely to view craft beer as a commodity. Consequently, craft beer has a higher
probability of being immune to competition from inferior goods and substitutes. This is
particularly applicable to New Belgium s target market of beer connoisseurs that appreciate the
high quality and taste of craft beer and who include executives, lawyers, and accountants with the
continued ability to pay higher prices for craft beer, enabling the craft beer industry to achieve
gross margins of up to 30 percent (Clark amp; Rogler, 2013).

The misuse or failure to secure Personally Identifiable Information can lead to the information
being leaked, stolen, and/or misplaced. When Personally Identifiable Information is leaked it is
somewhere where anyone can access the information, an example of this would be Personally
Identifiable Information that was published in public record such as a court appearance or traffic
ticket. When Personally Identifiable Information is misplaced it is susceptible to being stolen or
misused. The misplacement of Personally Identifiable Information is of particular concern in the
Information Technology industry where if Personally Identifiable Information is misplaced in,
say a database, it could be accessed by people that are not are not supposed to be able to see the
data or by people that do not have a need to know or authorized to see the data. Theft of Personally

Analysis Of The Book The Of The Woods Essay
The following cool spring night, Arthur roamed the woods on foot. He d planned to take his
horse so he could cover more ground, but decided against that, as going to the stables and saddling
up would draw more attention. It was easier for him to slip out of the castle under the cover of
darkness.
He had to find Guinevere. But how?
In his chainmail, Arthur jogged through the woods, taking in the surroundings, which was difficult,
considering the only light shone down from a half moon covered with haze. Still, Arthur knew
these woods well and navigated the paths with relative ease.
However, finding a new trace of Guinevere was another matter. Sir Perceval was an excellent
tracker. If Arthur could enlist the knight s help, he might find clues about Guinevere s location. But
revealing his task to anyone was out of the question. That would involve confessing he was torn up
over the fact he d banished Guinevere, and his heart bled with misery over missing her. Arthur had
experienced battle many times and faced terrifying foes. But the soul shredding pain of losing
Guinevere hurt the most. Though Arthur trusted Percival more than most of his knights, the king
would not divulge his innermost feelings to the man. Arthur would find Guinevere without help.
Now rushing through the brush at a jog, Arthur searched for any detail that might help footprints,

Antisemitism Before the Nineteeth Century
Before the nineteenth century antisemitism was largely religious, based on the belief that the Jews
were responsible for Jesus crucifixion. It was expressed later in the Middle Ages by persecutions
and expulsions, economic and personal restrictions. After Jewish emancipation during the
enlightenment, religious antisemitism was slowly replaced in the nineteenth century by racial
prejudice, stemming from the idea of Jews as a distinct race. In Germanytheories of Aryan racial
superiority and charges of Jewish domination in the economy and politics in addition with other anti
Jewish propaganda led to the rise of antisemitism. This growth in antisemitic belief led to Adolf
Hitlers rise to power and eventual extermination of nearly six million Jews in the holocaustof World
War II. (holocaust encyclopedia)
Adolf Hitler was born in 1889 in the small Austrian border town of Braunau am Inn. He was the
fourth child of an Austrian customs official. The family was comfortable although not wealthy.
His father was a man of bad temper and his mother was depicted as a woman of gentleness and
devotion to her children. As a child, Hitler was an average student. When he was 16 years old,
he dropped out of school. He later turned to art such as drawing and redesigning the city of Linz
on paper. In 1907 Hitler relocated to Vienna where he had planned to study art. He was later
rejected and began to live a life of poverty. His family sent him money to support himself

Sacred Texture Analysis Essay
Introduction
To explore the use of innovation and creativity in leading the early Christian communities from
insular spirituality to a global social or religious force, I am using the method of Sacred Texture
Analysis. Analysis of sacred text is a way of systemically probing dynamics across a spectrum of
relationships between the humans and the divine (Robbins, 1996, pg.4). The sacred texture of a
text is the formation and nurturing of religious community (Robbins, 1996, pg.127). Therefore,
socio rhetorical criticism extends intertextuality to include cultural discourse (Gowler, 1999,
pg.197). So the challenge is how to understand Apostle Peter s organizational leadership and then
apply these concepts to today s organizational leadership. Below are my insights according to Bible
reading and extensive research of 1 and 2 Peter. In carrying out his mission, Peter persistently had
to struggle with questions of leadership with creativity and innovation. In a very significant sense,
he had to disconnect ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

their churches, they can rethink what is important in their own praxes of leadership (Branson, et

The supervisory culture at the FSA is often characterised by a series of overarching approaches
and themes, such as more principles based regulation and Treating Customers Fairly . The FSA
Handbook, a set of rules to which regulated п¬Ѓrms are subject, becomes increasingly prescribed by
EU legislation. This is aided by the FSA s move to the socalled copy out approach, transposing
directives word for word, where possible, in order to avoid gold plating . The FSA grows in size
and cost through greater activity for the Financial Ombudsman Service and increasing calls on the
Financial Services Compensation Scheme, fuelled by a growing number of consumer complaints
especially around bank charges and payment protection insurance. The FSA also increases its
enforcement activity, especially on market issues and in terms of stepping up п¬Ѓne sizes.
Financial crisis and beyond The single regulatory structure is restructured as a response to the
crisis. National supervisors face greater harmonisation of practice at EU level. The need to prop
up the banking system introduces a new actor, the Resolution Authority (in the UK a role of the
Bank of England), as the Tripartite Authorities50 put in place legislation to deal with bank
resolution after the collapse of Northern Rock. Major banks are now required to have recovery and

President James Madison. The War of 1812had begun and although America was up against one of
the world s most powerful nations, the United States had an advantage for Britain was preoccupied
with the war with France.
In 1813, the United States gained control of Lake Erie with their victory at the Battle of Lake Erie
which meant that the Americans controlled the route to Canada. At the Battle of the Thames River,
General Harrison was able to defeat a combined force of British troops and Native Americans,
ending British power in the Northwest and weakening the alliance between Britain and Native
Americans for the leader of the Indians, Tecumseh, had died in battle. In 1814, Britain had won the
war against France and Napoleon Bonaparte was executed meaning that Britain could focus more
on the War of 1812. Their victory at war allowed the British to send better reinforcement to defeat
the Americans who now had their full attention. The British attacked Washington D.C. and set fire
to the White House, along with other government buildings, causing President Madison to be
forced to flee.
In early September 1814, the British sailed up Chesapeake Bay with plans to capture the city of
Baltimore in Maryland with a naval and land attack. Vice Admiral Sir Alexander Cochrane,
commander of the British fleet, was set on Baltimore for it

3D models are used in, for example, Computer Aided Design (CAD): a designer uses a 3D
modeling tool to create a 3D representation (i.e. a 3D model) of a new product. This model can
then for example be visualized in different colors and lighting conditions. It can also serve as a
blueprint for guiding the subsequent manufacturing process. Because creating such a high
quality 3D model takes a lot of time and effort, it would be beneficial to have the option of re
using and possibly adapting existing 3D models. Figure 1: 3D object represented by 3 Aaxis

Margaret Atwood Film Techniques
Costume Design is one of the most important factors in the filmmaking process. A single piece of
clothing can change the audiences perception of a character. Contemporary films use costume
design in a way to create a realistic and familiar setting, while period dramas or films from
another time use it as a way to shape a character. Throughout the years, the approach to costume
design has evolved but the heart of it has never wavered. Films are affected greatly by the use of
clothingand costume design, leaving a great responsibility on the shoulders of the designer.

She was taking on one of the most well known and loved child tales. Risks are not an issue when
it comes to Atwood as she deviated from the traditional blue dress of Alice while still keeping the
essence of her character. Throughout the film, Alice had 8 looks resulting in around 20 hand made
looks due to the need for multiples in case of damage. Alice also allowed Atwood to create virtual
costumes as well with the CGI process. This meant working with oddly shaped characters and
needing to create virtual fabrics, trims, and buttons. Getting to explore and adventure into the world
of fantasy was intriguing to Atwood and led to beautiful results. (Gallagher

What Does Granny Weatherall Represent
Granny Weatherall faces complex emotions derived from her past and unrehearsed arrival upon
death exemplified through symbolism and imagery. Granny Weatherall s past drives her life
because she cannot seem to let go of it. Through this constant remorse for herself she creates a sad
and sorrowful character shown through two foiling symbols light and dark. In most cases light
always trumps darkness but Granny Weatherall lives her life through memories of rejection and
abandonment, giving darkness the strength to act as a tyrant. Granny Weatherall has, wounded

Hearing Concepts Of Group Dynamics Essay
Within Group Dynamics, there are many factors that goes into structured group, and as an
observer I feel this was a very rewarding experience. I feel that hearing concepts of group
dynamics, and then seeing the concepts in action expands an individual s knowledge on the
subject. Seeing the leadership s skill and the processes of a facilitatorcan influence aspiring
facilitators, and give them the experience they need. For my structured group, I decided to go to
Greenleaf, and observe an adolescent depression group. This was most definitely a treatment
group, because its main focus was looking at meeting the participant s goals, which was to
decrease depressive thoughts and behaviors. This therapeutic group worked as an inpatient
facility, and I think this is different from most other treatment groups. It s different, because it
was dealing with adolescents struggling with depression, and had an indefinite stay at Greenleaf.
There are many factors and concepts from our class present in this treatment group. One of the
first concepts that I found in this group was its group work values. Many of the participants found
a positive value from coming to the group. This makes handling groups easier, because it causes
less stress on the facilitator to keep control of derailers and whiners. Another group value that I saw
was that cooperation and democracy. I feel like this ideal was embodied in each group member,
because from my perception they felt as though they had thoughtand

The Ideal Woman In Pretty Woman
Today, modern movies often portray women as strong, courageous feminists or even the heroine
that will eventually help save her people. However, Pretty Woman focuses on how women are
viewed as objects in a world dominated by powerful men. The protagonist is viewed as an outcast
in society, because she is not rich and poised and because she is a prostitute, until she becomes the
epitome of society s ideal womanrich, beautiful, and well maintenance, through the helpof a well
respected businessman, in which she is then embraced by those in the high class society.
However, the protagonist refuses to let society s standards change her dreams and the way she
views herself. By depicting that the ideal woman is someone who has to rely on men for help and
has to have elegance and affluence in order to be well respected or successful in society, Pretty
Woman emphasizes that women are only viewed as objects in a dominant male society. Even

Feminist Geography
Feminist Geography
Since its conception, geography has been involved in the development of races and genders,
mapping the boundaries that separate and exclude the world of privilege from the other. The
imposing eyes that facilitated this domination have recently been challenged to quash their
perpetuation of racial difference, and although existing more obscurely, to challenge the sexist
legacy remaining in geography.
As part of geography, feminist approaches within our discipline take the same set of central
concepts as their focus as other sub areas of geography. Thus over the decade feminist geographers
have addressed three of the central concepts of the discipline space, place and nature and the ...

The under representation that occurs at the moment can also be linked to similar practices
occurring in the nineteenth century; the gendering of science in the nineteenth century effectively
excluded women, both from science in general and those particular techniques that loosely
constituted physical geography in the years before the institutionalization of the discipline
(McEwan, 1998).
This problem is not helped by the situation today that the differences in numbers of female human
and physical geographers is negligible;
women are almost equally likely to be physical geographers as they are to be human geographers
(Bartram Shobrook, 1998). If this is the case, then feminist geography is definitely less about
feminism and more about geography since we must first strive to explain this apparent phenomenon
and then redress the balance. One explanation offered through feminist scholarship follows thus; in

effort to help the oppression of African Americans. It started a few years back after a major
incident happened in the United States. Following this incident, the movement has had to
become even more dominate because of the senseless killings and mistreatment of African
Americans. This unfortunate incident started the movement that is now to help defend of the
lives of African Americans. The Black Lives Matter Movement started after the killing of
seventeen year old Trayvon Martin. He was shot and killed because a neighborhood watch felt
as though he was a threat to the neighborhood. The only weapon was a bag of skittles and a can
of tea. George Zimmerman was instructed to stay in his vehicle after he saw someone suspicious
walking in the neighborhood. Mr. Zimmerman disregarded what the person from dispatch told
him and got out of his vehicle to follow the young teenager. Moments later shots were fired.
Zimmerman never denies shooting Trayvon and claimed it was in self defense. In his defense, he
was bleeding from both his nose and the back of his head. At first, there was no arrest made
because his story seemed to be legitimate. But then Zimmerman is charged with second degree
murder. He turned himself in was later bonded out the same day. Then he enters a written plea and

The second alternative as proposed by Anthony is to expand the existing product line by
introducing two new boots in the Summit line and another women s boots in the Glacier line.
These new boots would have a lower pricing to provide price points at the low end of the line. The
new boots will be positioned as boots for serious hikers who want quality hiking boot at a
reasonable price and also for casual hikers who are looking to move up to a better boot.
Analysis of alternatives and recommendation:
The advantages of choosing the first alternative is that it would help target the weekender boot
market which is 25% of the boot market share, which is more than both the mountaineering and
serious hiker market share put together. Also, the weekender boot market has high growth
potential as shown by the market research. But, venturing into an all new unfamiliar market can be
very risky. The competition in this new weekender market is very fierce and Cima doesn t have
any experience working with the new line of boots. It would also be difficult to change the
perception that consumers have of Cima from a mountaineering boots company to a casual
weekender boots company.
The advantage of choosing Anthony s proposal is that introducing lower end boots will add on to
the advantage that Cima already has and may help in competing with other boot manufacturers who
sell lower priced fashionable boots. The

The first real traces of the development of wrestling date back to the times of the Sumerians,

Ancient Egypt. Drawings were discovered in Ancient Egypt in the tombs of Beni Hassan
representing 400 couples of wrestlers. These drawings witness the existence of corporations of

future administrator (NBPTS, 2014, p.16) The idea of cultural diversity has been part of my
educational philosophy since middle school. I grew up in a very rural area of Pickens County, SC,
where I attended elementary school with all white children. It wasn t until I went to middle school

It was by far the best training I could have ever received. I was hired at the same school at the
end of my student teaching semester and have now been teaching for 4 years. The notion of
cultural diversity is important to me because of the amount of personal growth I have
experienced by being exposed to the diverse lives of my friends and students. My past
experiences and this course have prepared me to be a self reflecting, culturally relevant educator
and administrator. I hope to use my knowledge from this research and course to influence other
educators to also create culturally relevant classrooms that will openly welcome and embrace all
students. A classroom is only truly culturally relevant when it has student academic success, paired
with a development and maintenance of cultural competence, for which students also develop
cognizance where they desire to challenge the status quo of the present day social structure
(Ladson Billings, 1995, p.160) According to Ladson Billings (1995), it is behoove of teachers to
have pedagogical excellence in good teaching, also referred to as culturally relevant teaching with
collective empowerment. Often times for students of culturally diverse backgrounds, school is a
place where they cannot be themselves. Most school s cultural norms are typically

Ectodermal Dysplasias Essay
Ectodermal dysplasia is not a single disorder, but a group of syndromes all deriving from
abnormalities of the ectodermal structures.More than 150 different syndromes have been
identified.Despite some of the syndromes having different genetic causes the symptoms are
sometimes very similar. Diagnosis is usually by clinical observation often with the assistance of
family medical histories so that it can be determined whether transmission is autosomal dominant
or recessive.Worldwide around 7,000 people have been diagnosed with an ectodermal dysplasia
condition. Some ED conditions are only present in single family units and derive from very recent
mutations. Ectodermal dysplasias can occur in any race but are common in caucasians than any
other group and especially in fair caucasians.Ectodermal dysplasias are described as heritable
conditions in which there are abnormalities of two or more ectodermal structures such as the hair,
teeth, nails, sweat glands, salivary glands, cranial facial structure, digits and other parts of the body.

I m not following the controls let s discuss.
One question we need to ask (note if to remind us for the next ORCA meeting) is if they inform

With the revised risk #5 6 the second aspect of this risk is covered. Therefore, the risk needs revised.

Mayfield can differentiate itself from other VCs and market themselves as more aligned with
the LPs, thus, allowing itself quick raising of funds and greater negotiating power when the fund
is oversubscribed. * Because the terms of the fund are a product of the negotiations between the
LP and GP, greater bargaining power is significantly favorable. * Greater Funds to Invest.
Because fees are less, there is greater amount to invest, and, in the case that there are many
attractive investments, Mayfield can capture more investments. However, there are potential
costs to the budget based fees which should also be considered. * Talent Acquisition. Because
the fees are budget based, there may be an incentive for high level talent to work for Mayfield,
especially if salaries may be restricted by the budget based nature of the fees; thus, high level
talent may move to firms with a 2/20 structure. * No Fixed Rate. The GP has the opportunity
cost of not charging the fixed rate; because their costs are well below the 2.5% cap, Mayfield is

Mission Command As A Military Leader
Mission Command is a military leader s guide to being an effective and reasonable leader
maintaining both command and control of garrison and wartime environments. Mission Command
is guided by six principles beginning with build cohesive teams through mutual trust, create shared
understanding, provide a clear commander s intent, exercise disciplined initiative, use mission
orders, and accept prudent risk ( 3. Army Staff. Mission Command. Fort Benning, Maneuver
Center of Excellence). These six principles are what Mission Command is built around and they
allow leaders to reach their full potential, if adhered to properly. The problem is that leaders
believe they are following these principles, when in reality their subordinates may not see it the
same way. The principles that show the biggest issues would be shared understanding, and a clear
commander s intent. Creating a shared understanding and providing a clear commander s intent
really go together, because without one you cannot have the other. The problem with these
principles is that what is clear to one subordinate or individual is not clear to another, not everyone
has the same reading comprehension skills or the same train of thought. It has been discussed
numerous times throughout the years about how to use orders and a commander s intent that gives
orders without directly saying so, or in other words, implied tasks. In combat arms military
occupational specialties, enlisted combat arms schools, particularly

Living At Home Vs Home Life
Every student who enters the period of college has to face the necessity of person entering
choosing between living at home or to live on campus. At a certain time in life, you may have to
decipher whether living in a dorm or living at home is a suitable choice. There are several pros
and cons that partake in coming to a decision between the choices. There are numerous reasons to
live at home such as, and financial sustainability, and additional privacy, etc. However, there are
also countless reasons to live in a dorm such as living your own leads to freedom. The choice
between dorm life and home life is what leads towards the transformation of the life of a young
adult.
For instance, a student glancing at a dormitory will first discover that the rooms in a dorm are
generally shared with a person. Sharing a small space with a stranger can be quite challenging.
Personal space is sadly not included when it comes to living in a dorm. Within a dorm shared
restrooms and shower areas are included. Privacy is unobtainable to have if you live in the dorm
while one s space is adequately easier to obtain if we live at home. Living in a dorm may allow
some students have a pleasurable experience and a difficult test for another. Moreover, living at
home requires countless accountabilities, but it also allows you to obtain personal space. Although,
living beyond home requires that you have personal such as, tidying up individual rooms, washing

How Does Macbeth Change Throughout The Play
In the play The Tragedy of Macbeth by William Shakespeare, it starts off describing Macbeth as a
loyal thane of Glamis and very loyal to his king. Throughout the okay, he will transform from this
loyal warrior to a very evil, power hungry tyrant. He did not reach this transformation alone
however, there were a few ugly sisters who helped with this transformation.
Obviously the three witches that are introduced in the beginning play a major role in what Macbeth
and his wife Lady Macbeth would do throughout the play. The play opens up with the Three
Witches being the first to talk, so we meet them very early and actually before anyone else. At
this point, they sort of set the mood of the play by displaying the weather and mood of what s
going on. One way they set the mood of the play with weather is by what they said in Act 1, Scene
1 in the first two lines, When shall we three meet again? In thunder, lightning, or in rain? .
The Three Witches are often referred to as The Weird Sisters by many of the characters. Throughout
the play, the witches lurk around to persuade characters Macbeth and Lady Macbeth to evil
temptations. For example, when they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Macbeth would not (in my opinion) have murdered the King without the predictions of the witches.
This gives the witches the credit that they deserve. I think that maybe if the witches hadn t been so
correct about their predictions earlier in the play, then Macbeth might have just shrugged them off
and not paid so much attention to them as he did after they told him he would be named Thane of
Cawdor and ended up being correct. Obviously from here on out, he would listen to them because
he wanted power and if the witches could help him get it, why not let them do it? The witches
represent such an unreasoning, instinctive evil that it is hard to understand as a

Examples Of Optimism And Courage
Using Optimism to Defeat Conflict
As philosopher Nicholas M. Butler states, Optimism is the foundation of courage. Keeping this
in mind, Dear Miss Breed , written by Joanne Oppenheim, tells the story of a young girl named
Louise who was interned, but had an optimistic outlook on life, leading her to appreciate
everything around her. In Susan Campbell Bartoletti s Hitler Youth , Sophie Scholl had the
courage to stand up and do what she believed was right. And in Elie Wiesel s Nobel Prize
Acceptance Speech , he emphasized the need to be optimistic in times of conflict. All of these great
leaders have had great courage and chosen to be optimistic in depressing times. Although it can be
argued that optimism and courage are irrelevant to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Sophie Scholl s story, she writes to her boyfriend I don t like to think about it, but soon there
is going to be nothing left but politics, and as long as it s so confused and evil, it s cowardly to
turn away from it (Bartoletti). In Sophie s point of view, cowardliness leads no no resolutions. She
believes people must face the conflict and accept the consequences. According to the article, The
Neutral Basis of Optimism and Pessimism , The pessimist . . . observes mainly the negative aspects
of everything around. Thinking of all the potential dangers and pitfalls on the way, the pessimist
is likely to have little hope for the future (Hect). Pessimism shows weakness in one s ability to
resolve conflict successfully. Allowing fear and discouragement into one s mind tends to curtail
the ability to reach full potential. University of Notre Dame College writes, Avoiding or
withdrawing from a conflict requires no courage or consideration for the other party. By avoiding
the conflict, you essentially pretend that it never happened or doesn t exist. Turning away from
conflict is inadvisable because it means are turning away from an opportunity to grow. One does
not learn if they cannot face conflict. Therefore, expressing a pessimistic or fearful outlook on life
does not lead to growth, learning, or successful conflict

Maintaining a Healthy Lifestyle
Maintaining a healthy lifestyle is indeed a meaningful duty we owe ourselves. If you do not have
good health, you do not have wealth . Healthy lifestyle means upholding a balanced and nutritious
diet as well as involves in fitness activities. A healthy diet alone however isn t sufficient to
produce a healthy body as physical activity helps to keep one in shape and free of sickness and
disease.
First of all, water is vital for our healthy. Water is the most important and abundant inorganic
compound that contain in all living things. For example, drinking water after exercise helps us
to replace the fluids lost and to ensure we stay properly hydrated. When we work up a sweat
during exercise, our body loses large volumes of water which can lead to dehydration if we don t
replace them by drinking water or other fluids. Cannot be denying that humans might be able to
survive for weeks without food, however without water we would die in a couple of days. As
adults, we tend to drink coffee and soda rather than water. Water is so important for generate
healthy organ function, lubricated joints and even strong bones. If you can t stop taking the
caffeinated drink altogether, which by the way it can lead to the increased of dehydration. Most of
the body s chemical reactions are occur in a watery medium. Water has many properties that make
it become crucial compound for life.
Besides that, we must also exercise regularly to maintain good health. Exercise is regularly or

Man in the Mirror:
A Video Evaluation Essay

Vincennes University
Abstract This is an essay over an evaluation of the video of Man in the Mirror by the proclaimed
King of Pop, Michael Jackson. The song focuses on the efforts of an individual to improve
himself and change the world. Self reflection, inner pain, and personal improvement are well
known original themes for a poem, and make a promising fit to this song. Not only known for
asking for change in oneself, but in famous for being an anthem for world change. This is notably
because of the montage style video, which features world leaders and events, but not Jackson
himself. This video itself brings politics, culture, and leader in the mix, and suggesting a change in
the negative areas of the world. Directors of this video set out to make a statement and leave a
lasting impression on the world and anyone watching the Man in the Mirror . The ultimate theme of
the song is that in order to change the world, we have to change ourselves; there is no change
without start with oneself.

The video supported the positive message of the lyrics. Michael Jackson doesn t even appear in his
own video at all. Instead, a mix of political and cultural leaders, famous world events and

Reagan, Mahatma Gandhi, M.L.K. the Civil Rights movement, John Lennon, the Kennedy s,
and other influential people of the world share this montage with polar opposites like the Soviet
Union, KKK rallies, wars, bombings and all types of world crisis. Showing footage of world events
from the past 50 before 1988 not only broadened the picture Jackson wanted to paint, but it also
hit a wider array of people. The more people related to events, meant a big audience to send a

Summary Of The Psilocybin Study
In 1965, a study was done using Psilocybin in rehabilitation with male prisoners in Massachusetts
Correctional Institution. The study was conducted for six weeks bi weekly, with Psilocybin being
administered two times (Leary, Metzner, Presnell, Weil, Schwitzgebel, 1965). The purpose of this
study was to understand the reasonings behind why they committed their crimes. More
importantly, their goal was for the prisoners to understand the root of the problem so much so
that they want to make positive changes when they are released from the institute (Leary et al.,
1965). The study began with a two year analyzation of files and cases of inmates. Those referred
to do the study were done by correctional officers that worked with the inmates on a daily basis...

took was having the participants take a series of psychological and personality tests. Specifically,
these tests included Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI) and the California
Psychological Inventory (CPI). This information was used by psychiatrists in determining the right
way to do the Psilocybin assisted therapy with each individual. After all the tests were done,
psychiatrists went into depth about how the study would be coordinated and what feelings may
occur with them. When the study began, the group was all brought into a room secluded from other

Freestanding Malls
I know that someone has used Freestanding sites (pg 185), but I will use that along with Enclosed
shopping malls (pg. 191) for comparing and contrasting. The company that I work for tends to
scope out available spaces to grow the company. They aren t particularly picky in the choices
that they make if they believe that the store will make them money. They want to be able to be
diverse in their locations and experience the best of both worlds. We have locations that come in
all different shapes and sizes. The most frequent being freestanding sites and also ones that are
enclosed in malls. Not alot of places down here have attractions inside of malls and I m not
exactly sure how it looks up north. It s interesting though because the foot traffic that comes along
with the stores based in malls is amazing. You can attract customers who weren t even planning to
come to the store, but they come in to check it out and end up spending money. In a sense, the
customers are planned for but that on top of loyal customers is really great. Our freestanding stores
do well on their own too. Only difference is that they depend on their loyal customers. The random

of the way attraction, we could either not be getting the business that we want because people

Relationship Between The Tang And Song Empire
The Tang and Song Empires were two very powerful empires that ruled China after the Han and
Sui Dynasties. The Han Dynasty left China fragmented for centuries, and the Sui Dynasty
reunified China until the Turks from Inner Asia assassinated the son who ruled. The Tang filled
the political vacuum in 618 with emperor Li Shimin (r. 626 649) who extended his power into
westward Inner Asia. The Tang kept many Sui governing practices but avoided overcentralization
with giving nobles, gentry, and religious establishments power. The Tang Empire fell after the
An Lushan and Huang Chao rebellions that left the society homeless, a refugee, or a migrant
worker. The empire fell in 907 after a warlord terminated their line. However, the Song Empire
had arisen in 960 and paid tribute to the Liao, who controlled the north. The Song Empire aligned
with the Jurchens, who ended up creating the Jin Empire, to destroy the Liao capital. The Song
Empire was betrayed by the Jurchens and ended up having to pay tribute to them, which some
historians refer to as the Southern Song period (1127 1279). The Song Empire declined in the year
1126. The Tang and the Song had a variety of economic, political, and social accomplishments,
some that they shared, and some that they didn t. Both the Tang and the Song increased the use of
trade, had a change of size of their empires, and had major advancements in technology. Although,
the Tang and the Song differed with the growth of Song s population and its

Introduction: Altruism is a form of pro social behaviour in which a person will voluntarily help
another at some cost to themselves. The primary motivation for altruistic behaviour is seen as a
desire to improve the welfare of another person rather than the anticipation of some reward or for
any other reason that might indicate self interest. One of the major problems for psychologists has
been determining what is truly altruistic and what might be better explained in terms of egoism.

However if the cost of leaving was high (they had to do an onerous task if they left) then those in
the low empathy condition were more likely to stay even more likely than those in the high
empathy condition.
However, it is possible that people who help in such situations do so to avoid punishment, such as
social disapproval that could arise as a result of not helping. To test that, further research where the
potential for negative social evaluation was manipulated, concern for disapproval of others did not
appear to explain why empathic concern motivated helping. (Fultz et al)
The negative state releif model by Cialdini suggests that when we are experiencing negative states,
we are motivated to alleviate this condition by helping others, which is personally rewarding.
People learn during childhood that helping others is a positive behaviour that will make them feel
good about themselves. Therefore, the motivation for helping is for egoistic reasons, depending on
the anticipated emotional consequences. The primary objective in any behaviour that appears
altruistic is actually the enhancement of our own mood. Cialdini carried out a study, where
participants were given instructions to create high or low empathy conditions and

  • 2. A Raid On The Oyster Pirates Jack London An autobiographical sketch is when the author writes about their own experience. This is exactly what Jack London does in his story A Raid on the Oyster Pirates . London is very skilled in the art of character development. This explains how he was able to create such developed characters to the point where they almost seem like real people. In A Raid on the Oyster Pirates by Jack London a lot of detail is shown through Charley, Mr. Taft, and Centipede in terms of how they act and speak. Charley is a good friend of the narrator. He can be viewed as very forgiving because of how he treated the oyster pirates after they were caught stealing oysters from Mr. Taft. After the oyster pirates Charley stated, You can dry your clothes here, lads, and get some hot coffee (London). Even after they stole from him and his friends Charley... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Centipede is viewed as very sly and deceitful. After being confronted my Mr. Taft about stealing his oysters, his response was, Now, in my experience, broke in the tall man, oysters is oysters wherever you find em, an they re pretty much alike all the Bay over, and the world over, too, for that matter. We re not wantin to quarrel with you, Mr. Taft, but we jes wish you wouldn t insinuate that them oysters is yours an that we re thieves an robbers till you can prove the goods (London). This shows how dishonest he is. Even after being caught he still decided to lie in Mr. Taft s face and make him feel foolish about accusing him for the crime. In conclusion, in A Raid on the Oyster Pirates by Jack London a lot of detail is shown through Charley, Mr. Taft, and Centipede in terms of how they act and speak. Being an oyster pirate himself back in the day really helped Jack London in a big way when it came to writing this story. Considering he was writing about his own experiences, it must have been very easy for him to make these characters feel ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Developmental Theories That Assist Social Workers Essay Developmental theories are integral to a social workers approach when working with children, and families as they help to guide and explain situations and behaviours. As social workers have an ethical and professional responsibility to their clients, they need to have an established set of guiding theories which underpin their practice. If they work without these theories, they could place their clients at risk of harm by practising from personal assumptions. They also help the social worker understand and manage these situations and to reach the desired outcomes. As suggested by Teater (2014), Theory is an essential ingredient in practice that guides the way in which social workers view and approach individuals, groups, communities and society (Chap 1, p.1). This report will identify and focus on three important developmental theories that assist social workers in their practice. These consist of work by Erikson, Bowlby and Piaget. Erikson s theory focuses on the model of life stage development; Piaget s theory focuses on the cognitive processes while Bowlby s theory focuses on attachment. Despite these theories representing different aspects of social science, they all have the same guiding principle of development. Once the social worker has identified the relevant theory required, they then use a model to implement the theory. This report will examine and discuss the Collaborative Family Work Model. The Collaborative Family Work Model works in a step by step approach ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Depression In Bartleby, The Scrivener And A Hunger Artist Depression is a negative feeling of hopelessness and feeling like you don t belong. It can affect anyone at anytime without warning. Being in such a depressed neurological state makes people act certain ways and do certain things. According to the medical research group Mayo Clinic: Depression is a mood disorder that causes a persistent feeling of sadness and loss of interest. Also called major depressive disorder or clinical depression, it affects how you feel, think and behave and can lead to a variety of emotional and physical problems. You may have trouble doing normal day to day activities, and sometimes you may feel as if life isn t worth living. So this quote explains why depression is significant and problematic to an individual. Depression is a recurring theme in the two stories Herman Melville s Bartleby, the Scrivener and Franz Kafka s A Hunger Artist . The stories have a connection of depression because each character develops similar tendencies such as loss of appetite, lack of motivation, and insomnia. The authors of the short stories experienced similar effects in their lifetime so the stories were influenced by their personal lives. Herman Melville, famous American writer, [D]eveloped debilitating physical and psychiatric disorders in middle age after writing, perhaps, the greatest of American novels, Moby Dick. Melville suffered shortly after writing Moby Dick and wrote Bartleby, the Scrivener few years later. Melville s personal life was relatable ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. What Are The Variables And Variables Of The Decisions Of... Interrelated variables account for the decisions of per capita purchases for adults in considering automobile acquisitions. Most mainstream automotive manufacturers offer different models to fit each market segment based primarily on the customer s age, purchasing power, and lifestyle. Depending on the market segment that an individual can enter into based upon their budget restrictions, a myriad of options are available based on one s lifestyle and automotive requirements. Today, automobile manufacturers offer compacts, intermediates, large, and premium size vehicles with correlating body styles such as coupe, sedan, sport utility, pickup trucks, and even crossovers. Utilizing a popular automobile manufacturer for an example of this observation, Toyota is currently considered to be the world s largest automobile company (Holt, 2015). As of late, Toyota has also been the most successful automotive company. Recently plagued with accelerator, braking, and steering issues with their popular hybrid models, as well as supply chain disruptions in Japan s recent tsunami disasters, Toyota has succumbed in its success to Volkswagen with a recent posting of 5.04 million vehicles sold worldwide in the second quarter of 2015 to Toyota s posting of 5.02 million vehicles sold worldwide (Tuttle, 2015). The loss of market share by Toyota was due, in part, to lack of contingency plans for supply chain disruptions, which is liken to the biblical principle: where there is no vision, ... • 7. Response Paper On Sexual Offenders Chapter 6: Response Paper Sexual offenders refer to sexual acts against a victim s will and includes a wide range of behaviors ranging from exposing oneself in a public place to rape. Probation and parole officers have the difficult task of working with sexual offenders and trying to help them during their rehabilitation process. From researching different sources, I have concluded that risk assessment, treatment, supervision, and restrictions/registration have effectively helped by working with sexual offenders in the community. Risk assessment is useful as a validated tool that provides a gauge of the offender s tendency to commit additional criminal activity and indicates the level of intervention necessary. According to the NGA (1), Most of the currently used sex offender risk instruments are designed solely to gather information on static factors, or those features of an individual s experience that are unchangeable. These factors can be used to assess long term recidivism potential, but not to identify treatment needs or to predict the timing of a re offense. The risk assessment is a preventative strategy that helps probation officers assess the offender so they can determine whether the offender is a risk to the community or what type of treatment they will need. A main example of a risk assessment would be Static 99. According to Static99 (2), Static 99 is a ten item actuarial assessment instrument created by R. Karl Hanson, PH.D. and David Thornton , Ph. Hansberry was born on May 19, 1930 in Chicago. She was the third youngest out of seven siblings. Her parents contributed a large amount of money to NAACP and the Urban League, because of this Hansberry was never comfortable with her rich girl status, so instead she identified herself as poor . She was admired by the children who were so often independent and matured which she imitated. One of Hansberry s major works that was considered on Broadway was A Raisin in the Sun. Hansberry received an award for this play in 1959, a couple years before her death. She received the New York Critics Circle Award, which is considered to be one her best. Lorraine Hansberry was the first African AmericanAuthor to be honored to produce her intelligent works that recognized her past growing up on Broadway. With such traumatic memories of Hansberry s childhood, she incorporated into her first play the theme of a courageous decision by a black family to move into a hostage new environment setting, this theme was Racial Discrimination. Lorraine Hansberry s most popular play, A Raisin in the Sun, deals with the crucial reaction of racism on the life of the Younger s. The Youngers are a poor black family that lives on the South Side of Chicago. • 10. John Adams And Abraham Lincoln Despite the disparity in the popularity ratings between the two presidents, John Adams and Abraham Lincoln are both indispensable figures in American history. In times of crisis, both of these men made big, consequential decisions to keep the country from falling apart. However, while Lincoln is commemorated for abolishing slavery and leading the Union in the Civil War, John Adamsis remembered for the mistakes of his presidency the Alien and Sedition Acts he issued that took away certain constitutional rights endowed to the American people. Both presidents thought they were doing what was necessary at the time to keep the United Statesfrom falling apart, but the contrasting approaches they used left opposite impressions. This can be contributed to the fact that almost all aspects of their lives, personal and professional, were opposite. So, while both presidents essentially did the same thing in saving America from falling apart, their reputations are so different now because of the way their lives and situations influenced the decisions they made. HBO s John Adams begins in 1770, as the colonies are on their way to revolting against the British Crown. The series begins with Adams life right before the revolution and follows the rest of his life for the first fifty or so years of American history. Before having anything to do with politics, John was a lawyer, a fairly successful one. He and his wife Abigail have an amazing relationship. Abigail makes up for all of John s ... It has experienced solid growth from its original entry as a niche marketer to a brand that is now distributed across the country. Much of New Belgium s success is a result of a well developed positioning strategy that promotes the company s culture as much as its product. Not coincidentally, New Belgium s target market chooses brands like Fat Tire because of both the company s culture and its product. Exhibit 5.1 of the New Belgium Brewing (B) case shows that craft beer is the fastest growing segment of the U.S. alcoholic beverage market, with an increase in market share of over 100 percent from 1999 2011. It is also an industry whose customers tend to be extremely loyal, making them less likely to view craft beer as a commodity. Consequently, craft beer has a higher probability of being immune to competition from inferior goods and substitutes. This is particularly applicable to New Belgium s target market of beer connoisseurs that appreciate the high quality and taste of craft beer and who include executives, lawyers, and accountants with the continued ability to pay higher prices for craft beer, enabling the craft beer industry to achieve gross margins of up to 30 percent (Clark amp; Rogler, 2013). He d planned to take his horse so he could cover more ground, but decided against that, as going to the stables and saddling up would draw more attention. It was easier for him to slip out of the castle under the cover of darkness. He had to find Guinevere. But how? In his chainmail, Arthur jogged through the woods, taking in the surroundings, which was difficult, considering the only light shone down from a half moon covered with haze. Still, Arthur knew these woods well and navigated the paths with relative ease. However, finding a new trace of Guinevere was another matter. Sir Perceval was an excellent tracker. If Arthur could enlist the knight s help, he might find clues about Guinevere s location. But revealing his task to anyone was out of the question. That would involve confessing he was torn up over the fact he d banished Guinevere, and his heart bled with misery over missing her. Arthur had experienced battle many times and faced terrifying foes. But the soul shredding pain of losing Guinevere hurt the most. Though Arthur trusted Percival more than most of his knights, the king would not divulge his innermost feelings to the man. Arthur would find Guinevere without help. • 18. Antisemitism Before the Nineteeth Century Before the nineteenth century antisemitism was largely religious, based on the belief that the Jews were responsible for Jesus crucifixion. It was expressed later in the Middle Ages by persecutions and expulsions, economic and personal restrictions. After Jewish emancipation during the enlightenment, religious antisemitism was slowly replaced in the nineteenth century by racial prejudice, stemming from the idea of Jews as a distinct race. In Germanytheories of Aryan racial superiority and charges of Jewish domination in the economy and politics in addition with other anti Jewish propaganda led to the rise of antisemitism. This growth in antisemitic belief led to Adolf Hitlers rise to power and eventual extermination of nearly six million Jews in the holocaustof World War II. (holocaust encyclopedia) Adolf Hitler was born in 1889 in the small Austrian border town of Braunau am Inn. He was the fourth child of an Austrian customs official. The family was comfortable although not wealthy. His father was a man of bad temper and his mother was depicted as a woman of gentleness and devotion to her children. As a child, Hitler was an average student. When he was 16 years old, he dropped out of school. He later turned to art such as drawing and redesigning the city of Linz on paper. • 19. Sacred Texture Analysis Essay Introduction To explore the use of innovation and creativity in leading the early Christian communities from insular spirituality to a global social or religious force, I am using the method of Sacred Texture Analysis. Analysis of sacred text is a way of systemically probing dynamics across a spectrum of relationships between the humans and the divine (Robbins, 1996, pg.4). The sacred texture of a text is the formation and nurturing of religious community (Robbins, 1996, pg.127). Therefore, socio rhetorical criticism extends intertextuality to include cultural discourse (Gowler, 1999, pg.197). So the challenge is how to understand Apostle Peter s organizational leadership and then apply these concepts to today s organizational leadership. Below are my insights according to Bible reading and extensive research of 1 and 2 Peter. In carrying out his mission, Peter persistently had to struggle with questions of leadership with creativity and innovation. In a very significant sense, he had to disconnect ... The supervisory culture at the FSA is often characterised by a series of overarching approaches and themes, such as more principles based regulation and Treating Customers Fairly . The FSA Handbook, a set of rules to which regulated п¬Ѓrms are subject, becomes increasingly prescribed by EU legislation. This is aided by the FSA s move to the socalled copy out approach, transposing directives word for word, where possible, in order to avoid gold plating . The FSA grows in size and cost through greater activity for the Financial Ombudsman Service and increasing calls on the Financial Services Compensation Scheme, fuelled by a growing number of consumer complaints especially around bank charges and payment protection insurance. The company mainly manufactures two classic kinds of leather boots Glacier boots for mountaineering and Summit boots for Hiking. Although the demand for mountaineering and hiking boots has increased in 1994, only serious mountaineers and hikers are interested in their boots and the demand is seasonal, while the foreign competitors target both serious and weekender hikers offering them a line of fashionable boots at lower prices. The second alternative as proposed by Anthony is to expand the existing product line by introducing two new boots in the Summit line and another women s boots in the Glacier line. These new boots would have a lower pricing to provide price points at the low end of the line. The new boots will be positioned as boots for serious hikers who want quality hiking boot at a reasonable price and also for casual hikers who are looking to move up to a better boot. Analysis of alternatives and recommendation: The advantages of choosing the first alternative is that it would help target the weekender boot market which is 25% of the boot market share, which is more than both the mountaineering and serious hiker market share put together. Also, the weekender boot market has high growth potential as shown by the market research. But, venturing into an all new unfamiliar market can be very risky. The competition in this new weekender market is very fierce and Cima doesn t have any experience working with the new line of boots. It would also be difficult to change the perception that consumers have of Cima from a mountaineering boots company to a casual weekender boots company. The advantage of choosing Anthony s proposal is that introducing lower end boots will add on to the advantage that Cima already has and may help in competing with other boot manufacturers who sell lower priced fashionable boots. Directors of this video set out to make a statement and leave a lasting impression on the world and anyone watching the Man in the Mirror . Instead, a mix of political and cultural leaders, famous world events and controversial happenings fill Jackson s place to enhance his vision of change. President Ronald Reagan, Mahatma Gandhi, M.L.K. the Civil Rights movement, John Lennon, the Kennedy s, and other influential people of the world share this montage with polar opposites like the Soviet Union, KKK rallies, wars, bombings and all types of world crisis. Showing footage of world events from the past 50 before 1988 not only broadened the picture Jackson wanted to paint, but it also hit a wider array of people. • 51. Summary Of The Psilocybin Study In 1965, a study was done using Psilocybin in rehabilitation with male prisoners in Massachusetts Correctional Institution. The study was conducted for six weeks bi weekly, with Psilocybin being administered two times (Leary, Metzner, Presnell, Weil, Schwitzgebel, 1965). The purpose of this study was to understand the reasonings behind why they committed their crimes. More importantly, their goal was for the prisoners to understand the root of the problem so much so that they want to make positive changes when they are released from the institute (Leary et al., 1965). The requirements for being a participant in the study included that they must be eligible for parole in three to five months and that they did not violate more than one parole. The first step researchers took was having the participants take a series of psychological and personality tests. Specifically, these tests included Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI) and the California Psychological Inventory (CPI). This information was used by psychiatrists in determining the right way to do the Psilocybin assisted therapy with each individual. After all the tests were done, psychiatrists went into depth about how the study would be coordinated and what feelings may occur with them. When the study began, the group was all brought into a room secluded from other inmates. The room included comfortable chairs ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 52. Freestanding Malls I know that someone has used Freestanding sites (pg 185), but I will use that along with Enclosed shopping malls (pg. 191) for comparing and contrasting. The company that I work for tends to scope out available spaces to grow the company. They aren t particularly picky in the choices that they make if they believe that the store will make them money. They want to be able to be diverse in their locations and experience the best of both worlds. We have locations that come in all different shapes and sizes. The most frequent being freestanding sites and also ones that are enclosed in malls. Not alot of places down here have attractions inside of malls and I m not exactly sure how it looks up north. It s interesting though because the foot traffic that comes along with the stores based in malls is amazing. You can attract customers who weren t even planning to come to the store, but they come in to check it out and end up spending money. In a sense, the customers are planned for but that on top of loyal customers is really great. Our freestanding stores do well on their own too. Only difference is that they depend on their loyal customers. The random foot traffic... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I believe though that malls have more downsides for our company. Being in mall there are rules to follow. With renting property inside a mall, there tend be alot of rules that have to be followed. We have to match their hours and there isn t much flexibility with it. Since it is an out of the way attraction, we could either not be getting the business that we want because people don t realize to come to a mall. People can t just drive by and see what we are. We don t have our own private parking lot, we share a space with an entire mall. That can be inconvienient for a lot of people. Some people just flat out don t like the mall and avoid it at all costs. Sometimes malls can jack the rent of places up without warning and to alot of businesses that can be almost ... • 53. Relationship Between The Tang And Song Empire The Tang and Song Empires were two very powerful empires that ruled China after the Han and Sui Dynasties. The Han Dynasty left China fragmented for centuries, and the Sui Dynasty reunified China until the Turks from Inner Asia assassinated the son who ruled. The Tang filled the political vacuum in 618 with emperor Li Shimin (r. 626 649) who extended his power into westward Inner Asia. The Tang kept many Sui governing practices but avoided overcentralization with giving nobles, gentry, and religious establishments power. The Tang Empire fell after the An Lushan and Huang Chao rebellions that left the society homeless, a refugee, or a migrant worker. The empire fell in 907 after a warlord terminated their line. However, the Song Empire had arisen in 960 and paid tribute to the Liao, who controlled the north. The Song Empire aligned with the Jurchens, who ended up creating the Jin Empire, to destroy the Liao capital. The Song Empire was betrayed by the Jurchens and ended up having to pay tribute to them, which some historians refer to as the Southern Song period (1127 1279). The Song Empire declined in the year 1126. The Tang and the Song had a variety of economic, political, and social accomplishments, some that they shared, and some that they didn t. Both the Tang and the Song increased the use of trade, had a change of size of their empires, and had major advancements in technology. Although, the Tang and the Song differed with the growth of Song s population and its ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 54. Investigating Gender Differences in Helping Essay Investigating Gender Differences in Helping Aim: To find out whether subjects will help opposite gender students faster than same sex helper would. Introduction: Altruism is a form of pro social behaviour in which a person will voluntarily help another at some cost to themselves. The primary motivation for altruistic behaviour is seen as a desire to improve the welfare of another person rather than the anticipation of some reward or for any other reason that might indicate self interest. One of the major problems for psychologists has been determining what is truly altruistic and what might be better explained in terms of egoism. Batson et al. s (1997) empathy altruism hypothesis proposes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However if the cost of leaving was high (they had to do an onerous task if they left) then those in the low empathy condition were more likely to stay even more likely than those in the high empathy condition. However, it is possible that people who help in such situations do so to avoid punishment, such as social disapproval that could arise as a result of not helping. To test that, further research where the potential for negative social evaluation was manipulated, concern for disapproval of others did not appear to explain why empathic concern motivated helping. (Fultz et al) The negative state releif model by Cialdini suggests that when we are experiencing negative states, we are motivated to alleviate this condition by helping others, which is personally rewarding. People learn during childhood that helping others is a positive behaviour that will make them feel good about themselves. Therefore, the motivation for helping is for egoistic reasons, depending on the anticipated emotional consequences. The primary objective in any behaviour that appears altruistic is actually the enhancement of our own mood. Cialdini carried out a study, where participants were given instructions to create high or low empathy conditions and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
