An Analysis Of Dean Spade s Normal Life
The Western thought functions through strongly rooted beliefs that have been prevalent for so
long, that the accuracy goes unquestioned. But just because it has gone on for so long, does not
mean it is the most efficient way of processing the world. The basis of biological determinism is
used to interpret and understand members of society, using predetermined categorizes to
comprehend identity. Furthermore, it is important to realize that using such a methodology for
judgment leads to perceiving race, gender, sexuality, and other identity markers in such a way that
is exclusive and unjust. Viewing society in regard to biology has various ramifications that impact
the lives of every individual. By functioning through biological determinism,... Show more content

In the book Normal Life, Dean Spade explains that the dispersion of power helps the creation of
norms that distribute vulnerability and security (4). This illustrates that not only does biology
determine who receives power and who doesn t, it also influences the norms that society upholds.
Through this perspective, biology determines how much a person is worth and predicts their
future. For those who do not have the ideal biology, they are left powerless and stranded in their
fixed conditions. Furthermore, those who are defined to be powerful must be protected from those
others (Spade, 5). This operation of norms is used to justify the exclusion of powerless populations
from programs that distribute wealth and life chances and attempts to validate the targeting of these
same populations for imprisonment and violence (Spade, 5). In reality, biology destines some
groups to flourish, to acquire enhanced opportunities, and to be treated in a way that benefits their
success. At the cost of this group, comes the groups that are being held back and facing an
inevitable doomed future; the norms produce security for some population and vulnerability for
others (Spade, 5). Through dividing power based on individuals biology, the sexist and racist
mindsets are reinforced and the conditions of violence, exploitation, and poverty are upheld (Spade,
5). The quantity of power impact[s] how we know our selves as subjects through these systems of
meaning and control the ways we understand our own bodies, the things we believe about ourselves
and our relationships with other people and with institutions, and the ways we imagine change and
transformation (Spade, 6). The amount of power one obtains indicates to themselves, and to others,
how much control and worth they have within society. It also influences how situations are
interpreted, formation of personal beliefs, and

Sexual Assault On Women In The Military
The amount of sexual assaults on women in the U.S. military rests unbearably great. In a 2006
study, it showed that female veterans financed by the Department of Veterans Affairs estimated
that about 23 33 percent of women have been assaulted, compared to the 17 percent of women in
the general population. As well as this study a recent Pentagon report had showed that in the
academic year of 2010 2011 there we 65 reported assaults that involved female cadets and
midshipmen. Since many victims are too terrified to come forward about their attacks, it is
estimated that about 19,000 assaults took place in the year of 2011. This number is six times the
number of attacks reported. There have been many attempts to fight this issue, such as giving

Valuejet 592 Case #1
5. A. Describe the environment, as viewed by Michael Porter s model of competitive forces, that
Valuejet was trying to compete in. consider competition, suppliers, customers, new entrants,
substitute products? The five competitive forces that shape strategy are competition, suppliers,
customers, new entrants, substitute products. Michael E. Porter demonstrates how the five
competitive forces can be used in any industry. The results from all five forces not only look at the
narrow aspect of competition rivals but as well as broader aspect of competitive interaction within
an industry. These five competitive forces can also be used in the case of Valuejet. Competition

Structure that should represent various systems, position, and programs of a company to encourage

The Wife s Lament Analysis
What is exile? Exile is the action of one being kicked out of their home or native land, usually as a
punishment. According to Anglo Saxons, all exile is a model of the banishment of humankind
from its rightful place in Heaven. Exile is a pretty frequent theme of Anglo Saxon literature by
symbolizing this in many different scenarios and using different characters and places. Since the
religionof christianitywas so important to the Anglo Saxons, this was a scary thing for many of
them to find in their literature. After one examines the lyrics in The Seafarer, The Wanderer, and
The Wife s Lament, one will notice that exile is included in all three of these Anglo Saxon stories.
In each of these stories, the theme of exile is prominently emphasized through at least one detail.
For example, in the stories The Seafarer and The Wanderer, the theme of exile is demonstrated and
emphasized through the use of water. The narrators in these stories are on sea voyages and water is
used to represent their separation, or exile, from their original home. In the story The Wife s
Lament, the theme of exile is demonstrated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The husband mysteriously left the wife one day without returning which caused the narrator s
pitiful isolation. Eventually during her suffering, she decides that she needs to go out to try to
find her husband, but the husband s kinsmen decided to keep the wife shut out from him.
Moreover, the narrator is left to continue suffering from her exile. My man s kinsmen began to
plot by darkened thought to divide us two so we most widely in the world s kingdom lived
wretchedly and I suffered longing (lns. 11 14). Since exile is supposed to represent the separation
of people from christianity according to Anglo Saxons, this story could have evoked sadness and
fear onto Anglo Saxons by being a sorrowful way to symbolize this

And while I m at it I d just like to say that the Soundtrack and background music is both corny
and....not very good. Out of the 10 Songs used in the movie only 1 is decent (Don t You Forget
About Me by Simple Minds) and even I don t like it while the rest of the songs to say the least
are quite rubbish unless you absolutely LOVED both the movie and the 80 s music scene then
you d probably not like it. In my own opinion I believe that this movie is run on its own
characterization as it IS about stereotypes at school. I d like to start on describing my personal
favourite character of the movie, John Bender (Played by Judd Nelson). John Bender is a
stereotypical Criminal/Rebel complete with Denim Jacket, Leather Gloves and a Bandana. He
talks with confidence as he says what he pleases to either to annoy or anger others for his own
amusement and when he has to, stand up for what/who he believes in. Judd Nelson acted out the
character of John brilliantly as you can really imagine Judd in real life truly acting this way as he
has given such a realistic performance that is both entertaining and true. I believe that without the
character of John Bender, The Breakfast Club as a movie would really be missing that extra punch
that made it such a hit with all his funny comebacks and entertaining scenes lead by Bender. Claire

Relationship Between China And South Asia
Introduction:
Since the mid 20th century an unlikely formidable alliance had slowly began to flourish in South
Asia. China and Pakistan s alliance began in the early 1960 s through the early 1970 s when
conflicts between India vs. China and Pakistan had intensified. The Sino Indian war that took place
in 1962 ended as fast as it began. Along with the war that had taken place between India and
Pakistan in 1965 and in 1971 when another indo Pakistani war erupted and East Pakistan claimed
independence and is known today as Bangladesh (Hagerty, 2002). In this comparison China and
Pakistan had identified their similar interests with their historical and geographical concerns in
maintaining India s power and influence within Southeast Asia (Federal China Security Affairs
Group [FCSAG], 2010). These are known as Geo Political interests. There are many definitions of
geopolitics but this one more specifically entails the competition over the control of territory and
extraction of resources (Jonatan, 2012) China and Pakistan have built a friendship that is, higher
than mountains, deeper than oceans, sweeter than honey, and stronger than steel (Tharoor, 2015),
they are collaborating on military technologies and supporting one another s economic interests.
Although the contrasts of these two countries greatly outweigh this entente, with concerns over
insurgencies in Pakistan such as it being a safe haven for the Afghani Taliban, said United States

Analysis Of Michael Hoffman s The Best Of Me
I love who I am when I m with you, Amanda. You are my dearest friend, my deepest love. You are
the very best of me. (Dawson). Everyone wants a love similar to Amanda s and Dawson s, in
Michael Hoffman s The Best of Me. This analysis will explore how flashbacks show the
characters background and history, the plot is based on the growth of the characters, and the irony
of specific points in the movie. Michael Hoffman s The Best of Me is relevant today, because love
does not occur in isolation with only two people. In addition to a couple s own responses to life
situations, pressures from outsiders both positive and negative, are placed on every couple.
Michael Hoffman uses flashbacks to show the setting and specific events that occurred twenty
one years ago. Through the flashbacks you can see why the characters act the way that they do.
The audience is presented with background information and past experiences. The flashbacks
show how being back where Dawson and Amanda first met each other and fell in love effects
their emotions in the present. Reliving their past by eating at Tuck s house, Dawson giving
Amanda the same type of flower, and spending the afternoon and night at the cottage shows the
audience how their feelings for each other had never gone away, but were only repressed until
then. You want me to fall back in love with you? How do I do that if I haven t ever stopped?

Town Hall By Michelle Malkin Summary
Even though Michelle Malkin, a republican columnist for Town Hall, is for Trump and is
obviously happy he will be President, the one thing she is totally against is millenials and the fact
that they are going to be able to continuously be on their parent s insurance plan until 26. She uses
humor, sarcasm, and evidenceto prove a point in this article that preserving this plan is harming
society instead of helping it. Throughout the entire article, her voice was very strong and evident
on how she felt about this topic. She explains her points well by using strong language. Malkin
also uses a lot of dry, sarcastic humor, to really drive her points across. For example, when
mentioning the maximum age children can be before getting kicked off... Show more content on

I agree that in general, we are more lazy and are a tad hypocritical. Thinking that just because
you don t have to work since you are under 26 and quit your job to do more meaningful things,
that is not necessarily considered a good, productive thing. But being one, a millennial that is, I
also see the other side of the argument. I believe that we can be the most productive when we
are passionate about something and the idea that non millennials have little to no faith in what
we can accomplish has a very negative outcome in what we then actually do. We are very proud
of who we are for the most part, and that may just be part of our generation s view on how life
works, but generalizing every single child under 26 or 31 to say that they are not the most
motivated and all we want is free stuff and to not have to work is not true. If I were to do a
study, I bet it would show that they are only happy to still be apart of their parent s plans
because they are broke and what is most likely the main reason they are broke? They are college
students who are trying to pay for continuing their education so they can further use talents to help
the economy all the while taking disses from the older generation saying how we are so lazy and
only want free stuff. Times change, and along with change, there needs to be adaptations. I do not
know enough to say what the mandates should or should not be, but I do not think that stereotyping
us is not going to

The Importance Of A Civic Engagement Opportunity As A...
The Civic Engagement assignment illustrates the value of incorporating a civic engagement
opportunity as a supplement to traditional lecture and reading materials. While this assignment
differs from service learning, the civic learning that takes place during the semester leads to the
development of knowledge, skills, and community contacts that are necessary for active citizenship.
As described throughout this paper, despite the passive sounding title of courtroom observation, this
assignment requires significant interaction and engagement with court personnel to be completed
successfully.
Since my father is a sheriff s deputy, it was easy for me to gain clearance to sit in the jury s box and
to watch criminal plea charges. The process I observed was startling because I did not imagine
that, in one morning, a single courtroom could go through almost five pages of client sentences
(approximately forty clients). In addition, I gained a better understanding of how courts operate
without the presence of a jury. Still, I was confused; What is the purpose of the judicial center?
Who else is involved? Are charges fairly made?
It was 7:30 a.m. on Monday, November 7, 2016. I woke up, took a cold shower, put on my formal
attire, and then left with my father to go to the judicial center at the McDonough Square. By 8:00
a.m., my father introduced me to the sheriff deputies that had scanned me into the building. Officer

Difference Between Modernist And Modernism
Modernist Postmodernist
Design in 20th century is influenced on modernist and postmodernist philosophies. Before
development of Modernism, taste was dictated to the wealthy classes by the whims of the king or
other Г©lite figures (emperors come to mind). Tradition was the dictated rule and deviating from
that resulted in ridicule. The idea of Modernism was the basis for 20th Century design, fashion and
art. It still affects us today.
Ironically, Modernism evolved from looking to the past, at a time when mass production and
consumption had taken over from style and taste. In the mid 19th Century, groups of designers
rebelled against mass production and used the best of what the past could offer to bring a new
attitude towards taste and style. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Post modernism is made up of many sub cultures and genres with different particular aims. The
best, simple definition which we can use is that post modernism is a reaction against modernism
and responds to the social and political issues of today. Modernism was destined to disappoint as it
continued to preoccupy itself with the reductionist chase for empirical fact. Post modernism often
produces what appears to be fiction which grows or matures towards fact.
Postmodernism shattered established ideas about style and brought a radical freedom to art and
design. At its height in the 1980s, postmodern designers such as the Memphis group, Alessi and
Arad, contributed to the new wave: a few thrilling years when image was everything.
Postmodernism challenges the traditional cultural values of today s societies, in particular,
western society. Life today is radically different to what it was fifty or even thirty years ago. The
traditional values of marriage and family no longer exist; with women having the same status in
the work place as men and also not settling down until later in life. A lot of couples choose not to
have children at all. Religion also has less of an effect on society as it used to, it is almost
becoming irrelevant to many people. Postmodernism has become a description of these shifts in
contemporary society and

When Miss Enderby gave Anne final instructions I think Anne felt reassurance because Miss
Enderby was very polite and she said that she could depend on her. In my opinion in school Anne
was attentive and diligent student, she was active and had good relations with teachers. When the
headmistress went out and the noise grew in volume, because the children communicate with each
other very animatedly, Anne remembered advicegiven her at college in such a situation: to stand
still and to be calm and gradually children will notice that you are waiting. Such advice could give
her one of her teachers.
Plot structure of the text is direct. It consists of the exposition: Anne meets her class ; the
beginning of the plot: Miss Enderby goes out of the class ; plot complications begin with the
phrase Anne gave watery smile and end with the phrase Anne advanced into action ; the climax of
the text is considered in the following phrase: To your desks! she roared, And quickly. and the
denouement: Anne s self esteem crept back .
My attitude to Anne is positive. Reading this extract I understood that she is good natured and
modest person and treats with respect to other people. What about the text itself? Unfortunately we

The Cabinet Of Dr. Caligari
The Cabinet of Dr.Caligari, directed by Robert Wiene first made its appearance in 1920. The film
is considered one of the most defining German expressionist film out of the Avant garde cinema
movement. The film became a template for future films that is horror based and also influenced the
film style of film noirs with its lighting. With its gothic tone that pays homage to expressionistic
paintings that depicts human emotions, the film shows us a place that is distorted and twisted
through the narration of the film s deranged character. I will explore how the film show us the
various stylistic elements that is associated with expressionist films and how this helped to create
the distorted looking world through the vision of a madman.
After the Germans loses in World War I, the American government was in control of the art of
expressionism that is occurring in Germany at the same time. Reality for them was intolerable and
therefore to escape this insufferable reality, they turned to arts. This reality was the fact that after
their loss, they were traumatised by it and could not fathom the fact of their economic depression,
the colonising of American culture and their politics. They used this arts to express their inner
feelings and that is why German expressionism is associated with the human emotions.

Stages Of Alcoholism Leading Cirrhosis Of The Liver Essay
Stages of Alcoholism Leading to Cirrhosis of the Liver
Mikal Norvell
Fortis Institute, Dr. Bassant
Abstract
This paper describes, briefly, the stages of the alcoholism as it slowly damages the liver, and
finally results in permanent, irreversible damage called cirrhosis. Excessive alcohol consumption,
or alcoholism is the number one cause of cirrhosis in the U.S. Though tolerance levels are
different for each individual, daily consumption of more than ten alcoholic drinks over ten or more
years contribute to a higher risk of cirrhosis. The first part of the paper will describe the liver and
what the liver does. I will also discuss different levels of drinking leading to alcoholism. Finally,
the paper will also discuss the deterioration levels leading to the signs and symptoms of cirrhosis.
Keywords: Cirrhosis, a chronic disease of the liver marked by degeneration of cells, inflammation,
and fibrous thickening of tissue. It is typically a result of alcoholism or hepatitis.
Stages of Alcoholism Leading to Cirrhosis of the Liver
The liver is the upper part of the abdomen and it the only organ is the body that can regenerate
itself, which is why a person can donate part of their liver to another. What does a liver do? The
liver stores glycogen, a.k.a. fuel, for the body. It helps process fats and proteins from digested
food. The liver makes a protein that enables blood to clot. It processes some oral medications, and
removes poisons, toxins, and alcohol from the

25 Million Car Research Paper
When you decide to start looking for a new car, you normally have a price range that you would
like to stay in. Of course, when it comes to different add ons and features, the price may seem to
get way out of hand very fast. However, surely there is a car out there that is more expensive
than what you are planning on getting. Of course there are. Some cars manage to rank up the
price to over and above a million dollars. Can you imagine getting a car loan for that? The 2012
Bugatti Veyron 16.4 can cost you about $2.25 million. So, for those of you who are billionaires,
that is probably just pocket change right? What makes this a $2.25 million car is not only its
sleek stylish design that would take James Bond s breath away, but it would probably blow his
hair off of his head. The Veyron has a 16 cylinder engine and 1001 horsepower. Its top speed is

around 4,160 pounds. For those of you who don t have $2.25 million to spend on the Veyron,

Italian car is well worth the million though. It has a V12, 6 speed engine with twin plate clutch.

The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year Essay
The Most Wonderful Time of The Year There is nothing like being in school in November and

The Message in Shrek Essay
The Message in Shrek
In traditional fairy tales, ogres are man eating beasts, the Prince rescues the Princess and they live
happily ever after. How do the makers of Shrek use presentational devices to reverse this tradition,
revealing the ogre as good, the Prince as evil?
In traditional fairy tales, the story begins Once upon a time and the general story line is a happy
one. Fairy tales are designed for small children so they can t be violent or contain swearing etc.
Snow White is a traditional fairy tale in which the evil queen tries to kill her but a prince rescues
her, a typical stereotype fairytale layout.

Also the camera shots also show Donkey and Shrek together. In the fight Shrek doesn t want to
fight and offers to settle it over a pint but later decides to pummel them. From this the audience can
tell that Shrek is in favour of peace but doesn t mind the odd brawl with the baddies.
Later Shrek meets and rescues Princess Fiona as ordered by lord Farquaad. When they first meet
Fiona is expecting a kiss as she lays ready (this is in reference to sleeping beauty) for a kiss but
Shrek shakes her awake this suggests Shrek is not the traditional type as the film isn t either. When
Fiona queries why Shrek hasn t slain the dragon he says that it is on his to do list which says Shrek
has a sense of humour even in life threatening situations.
At the beginning of the film, Shrek tries to threaten the characters he meets. There are characters
that are not affected by his appearance these being Princess Fiona, Donkey and the fairy tale
creatures that squat in his swamp at the beginning of the film. Although Shrek an ogre the audience
accepts him as a good guy.
In contrast to Shrek, lord Farquaad is a small and nasty character and shows no remorse throughout
the film. There is a scene where lord Farquaad is interrogating the ginger bread man truing to find

The United States should not enforce a mandatory military draft. Imagine your only son just

As you can tell, if the draft was reinstated many disputes would start to take place. Families all over
the United States would have to go through the pain of their children being forced to leave their
home. There are so many people who want to be in the military, there is almost no need for a

Nikki Giovanni s Surveillance
Historically, surveillance came in the form of a watch tower, designed to watch out for danger in

supervise the citizens in order to watch out for danger. The modern watch tower does not occupy
the same physical space as its predecessor and does not impress by its height, but rather, impresses
by its seemingly omnipresent eye in all channels of society and its reach into the lives of
individuals, but that reach is only enough to protect very specific dangers. Although mass

Influence Of American Culture On Consumers
In my opinion, I feel that consumers can get too much of a product. American culture of
consumerism appears to be quite addictive. Shopping can become a drug for some. For example,
with every new clearance rack at any given department store or buying multiple items because
you think there is a big savings when using coupons. Consumers become fueled with the need to
fill a void within their daily lives. In recent years I have notice the change of coupon use
compared to many years ago has become very addictive for some to the point that it is not saving
money. Don t get me wrong, I consider myself to be one who loves discounts and a good savings. I

The National Association For Music Education
Break Point 4.1
The National Association for Music Education has several general standards put into place (the
National Coalition for Core Arts Standards). These standards center around the theme of music
literacy and attempt to improve the three most important aspects of music learning: creating,
performing, and responding. These aspects are designed to be applied to a student s musical
performance as well as their conduct in the community. The standards are used throughout the
United States, introducing new topics throughout a child s preschool 8th grade education. They are
also provided in small strands throughout high schools. Teachers implement these techniques
through the teaching of theory, music history, collaboration, creating and performing throughout
their own individual curricula. They also have created Model Cornerstone Assessments, which are
designed to measure a student s academic achievement and performance within the Core Arts
Standards. As far as arts in the schools go, NAfME also has several organizations which help to
promote music in schools across America. I believe that having these national requirements is
extremely beneficial in that students across America will be learning similar concepts in the same
efficient manner, giving each individual student an opportunity to thrive as well as any other
fellow American student. I do think, though, that there should be ways for these codes can be more
enforced, as I had never really heard of

American Political Leaders Of The 1920 s
American political leaders of the 1920 s were not directly responsible for the Great Depression,
although the government contributed to many of the factors that lead to the Great Collapse, the
burden of this event was on the citizens of the U.S. who abused the stock system, acted in their
own interests, and lost economic confidence. The 1920 s is a notorious era known as the Roaring
Twenties. The standard of living had greatly improved from the century before it. American
citizens enjoyed shorter work hours and weeks, while also appreciating an increase in salary. The
stock marketvalues were continually rising. Moreover, a cultural change was also taking place.

Credit allowed average income families to purchase new products. However, the apparent
success of the credit system did not conceal the damage it had imposed on the financial wealth
of the United States. During the Roaring Twenties, the economy was booming at its highest.
Families enjoyed larger paychecks for shorter work hours and days. New commodities were
introduced to the consumer market. Even though wages were rising, a new economic plan,
called credit, was instituted. Instead of direct buying, an initial deposit was required with
weekly or monthly installments. People who could never afford new inventions such as radios,
cars, or electric household appliances, were able to purchase these items on credit. The cultural
divide between geographically separate areas was bridged through these new innovations.
Through the radio, people all over the country were listening to the same songs and dancing the
same dance Credit helped the economy by increasing the demand for domestic goods. But the
success of credit masked the damage it had imposed on the economy. Credit began to have a
negative effect on American families. Buying products on credit meant paying in installments.
Soon families were unable to pay back the debts they owed. Another negative effect was buying
stock on margin. Stock brokers began to buy stock on credit as well. The stock market peaked at
its highest at this time after a period of wild speculation. Money was being heavily invested in the
stock market without any regard for the invested company. Once the value of stock began to
decline, investors began to sell all of their stock before the price hit rock bottom. The demand for
stock was at its lowest and investors were left with nothing. On the other hand, margin stockholders
were worse off and left bankrupt. Even margin investors sold their stock, the value had depreciated

How Hauptmann Is Guilty In Jen Bryant s The Trial
A jury has the power to decide the entire future of one person s life. Jen Bryant s The Trial,
depicts the story of a man Bruno Hauptmann s trial for the kidnapping and death of a young baby,
Charles Lindbergh. This kidnapping takes place in a small town in New Jersey where nothing
exciting goes on. This trial brings the town to chaos to plead whether or not Hauptmann is guilty.
Bruno Richard Hauptmann is guilty of kidnapping and murdering Charles Lindbergh Jr. The ladder
and the handwriting on the ransom notes are both pieces of evidence that Hauptmann is guilty.
The ladder catches the investigators eyes when searching for clues. The ladder is a key component
to the evidence of Hauptmann s guilt. During the kidnapping, a ladder was used to steal the baby
out of his bedroom window. The ladder was left behind. Bruno Richard Hauptmann happened to be
a carpenter and could have easily constructed the ladder. Arthur Koehler told the jury, The ladder
was made of wood from a lumberyard in The Bronx, New York, not far from Bruno Richard
Hauptmann s house (Bryant 63). Hauptmann could have used the wood from this lumberyard to
create the ladder. Considering his carpentry, Hauptmann also obviously has a supply... Show more

Essay on The Branch Davidians
On February 28, 1993, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) raided the Branch

It was also at this time that Howell began calling himself David Koresh. From the beginning the
group was an apocalyptic faith. This meant that they believed themselves to be living in a time
when Christian prophesies of final divine judgment was coming. They believed that history would
begin to spiral. History would repeat itself but it would also advance at the same time until the end.
Koresh used the Book of Revelation as his evidence of the spiral.
In 1992 a Texas newspaper began to run investigative reports that Koresh was abusing children at
the compound. Koresh openly advocated polygamy for himself and select members of the
group. Koresh claimed to be married to several of the female group members. People outside of
the group began claiming that they were a cult because of the authoritarian structure with Koresh
being the all powerful leader. It is said by some survivors that Koresh had at least a hundred and
forty wives. He was also entitled to take any female at anytime. Allegations that he fathered at
least a dozen children by his numerous wives began to arise in newspaper reports. Some of the
wives were as young as twelve or thirteen years old.

were delivered to the compound. From there the sheriff notified the Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms,

Goodbye to All That Analytical Essay
A Fair City
I could speak of Joan Didion s use of rhetorical devices. I could describe every subtle simile she
imposes and preach of her incredible use of personification, but I think the most important piece
of the essay would, then, be neglected. In Goodbye to All That, Didion compares her experiences
in New York to the occurrences at a fair. This metaphor is discussed in a very roundabout way.
Ultimately, though, Didion (like anybody) grew tired and dissatisfied with the fair (in her case
NYC). Fairs lure people in through the gates with bright lights, loud buzzers, and exhilarating
games. These same tactics help to attract tourists to New York City. Like a kid at a fair, Didion
becomes enticed by such distractions and cannot ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She admits, Even that late in the game I still liked going to parties, all parties, bad parties
(p.687). The connection to the fair in this case stems from a child s ability to be so keyed up
and eager to play as many games as they can, that they will even play games they do not like.
Bad games (Intentional fragment). This view and interest of the city, this time at the fair, ends.
The ending is not a definite point in time, but instead a gradual distaste for the details. Like the
same child at the same fair, at the same time, every year, Didion outgrows the city and is no
longer intrigued. She states, I stopped believing in new faces (p.687) and realizes, It is
distinctively possible to stay too long at the Fair (p.687). She cannot stand the identical
conversations at Grand Central, the stuck up women on Madison Ave., Times Square, or the
New York Public Library. Eventually, Didion avoids these places. Like a boy who has outgrown
the annual fair, she promises to return after a six month leave of absence. Three years after
Didion made that promise, she finds herself returning to the fair. Back in New York, she realizes
her acquaintances are no more and her friends had moved. She states, We stayed for ten days, and
then we took the afternoon flight back to Los Angeles (p.688). Boys, a couple years removed from
the correct age for attending the fair, promise to return. Sometimes they do return and sometimes
they do not. Like Didion did, they

One option could be to keep a donation jar near the food to offset some of the money spent. The
second option would be to provide the space for hosting mini snack potlucks after programs
instead. The programs could encourage people to bring snacks to share with the group. These
mini potlucks could incorporate certain themes such as cultural food and diversity as well as
healthy food. With seniors, there could be sensitive dietary restrictions such as ones related to
diabetes, lactose, and gluten, to name a few. Hence, it is also important to keep in mind that
these potlucks would need to be regulated to ensure that all allergies and restrictions are made
aware of to the group. The staff could then decide whether certain food items should not be
allowed at the potlucks or if warning labels should be used for certain foods. This second option
would not only be more financially affordable for SAGE s programs but also, addresses the issues

Since the early twenty first century and even before, museums in the Middle East have had to
learn to cope with conflict. Syria is the best example of a country with many cultural heritage
sites and museums that are in danger due to conflict. The onset of the Syrian Civil War and the
destruction of ancient objects and cultural heritage sites by ISIS have been the most recent
manifestation of this. As a result of the Syrian Civil War and ISIS takeover, sites like Palmyra

ISIS s motivations revolve around looting and smuggling of ancient artifacts for funding (al
Frieh 2016), religious cleansing for the restoration of true Islam, a chance to make news
headlines worldwide to spread fear and intimidation of local populations (Swicord 2016). The
dangers of war have driven away many people who could protect these cultural heritage sites and
the objects within them, and now they are helpless in the face of destruction in conflict and being
smuggled for profit. Palmyra was a victim of this when ISIS captured the city in May of 2015 and
controlled it for about one year. The city is a UNESCO World Heritage Site with remains nearly
2000 years old ( ISIL captures strategic Syrian city of Palmyra. 2015). During its occupation, the
city faced several kinds of destruction at the hands of its captors. The city had already been

The Bill Becomes A Law Essay
The process in which a bill becomes a law can be a lengthy one; it must go through many steps in
order to become the law of the land. It is believed that this process should be a matter that every
American citizen should be informed of in order to fully understand and appreciate the inner
workings of congress with regard to The House of Representatives and the Senate. The steps in
which a bill becomes a law is an example of the democratic way of life here in The United States.
The fact that a proposal cannot become a law without consideration and approval by both houses
of congress is an outstanding virtue of our bicameral legislative system. (Maes 1 2) Anyone can
create a bill not just a member of congress. Any citizen, group or organization can draw up a bill
just from an idea. The right to petition is guaranteed by the first amendment. These bills are usually
written in the form of a letter. It is estimated that more then 15,000 bills are introduced to The
House of Representatives and the Senate each year. Each one is then assigned to a committeeafter it

The Positive Connotation In Thou Blind Man s Mark
For many people, the word desire carries a positive connotation, bringing to mind dreams of things
that could be. In Sir Philip Sidney s poem Thou Blind Man s Mark, however, desire is
characterized not as a wistful thing, but as a dangerous compulsion that must be stopped. Through
Sidney s extensive use of figurative language and repetition, it is made clearthat the speakerclearly
despises desire due to the horrible things desire can lead to. This expresses the idea that people
must look inside themselves to gain true happinessrather than desiring for things that can never
be. The speaker s negative attitude toward desire is established early on in the poem as the
speaker compares desire to many dreadful things in an almost ironic way. Desire is first
described as a blind man s mark, which creates a dark irony and sets the negative tone for the rest
of the poem (1). A blind man would not be able to see his target, so therefore he would not be
able to clearly aim at the target. Rather, he must shoot blindly and hope to hit the mark, which is
what desire causes people to do. Desire can also be seen as a fool s self chosen snare, implying
that those who desire are foolish because they chose to fall into the trap of desire rather than
attempting to avoid it (1). These metaphors begin to characterize desire as foolish and something
that one cannot control. The metaphors in the next line set up the speakers personal view on

Factors That Impact On The Lives Of Children And Young People
1.1A description of the social, economical and cultural factors that will impact on the lives of
children and young people. There are many social, economical and cultural factors that impact
on the lives of children and young people. In my role as a Young Carer s Support Worker, I work
with a number of families living with the consequences of these factors. Every Child Matters
(ECM) aims to improve the outcomes and life chances of every child and young person,
therefore, it is important we understand and do all we can to help them achieve the 5 outcomes of
the ECM, stay safe, be healthy, enjoy and achieve, make a positive contribution, and, achieve
economic well being. Personal choice Some families decide not to live or act in a... Show more

Poverty A child may be living in a household with a very low income and their family may not be
able to afford to provide for their children as they ad hoped. They may struggle to buy enough
food, especially health food, to eat, buy clothes to wear or even to provide heating and electric.
This can affect their physical and mental health due to poor hygiene and diet. Some children
may suffer with low self esteem and low self respect because of the stigma attached to poverty,
this can affect them in later life also. Ethnic/cultural beliefs and customs Whilst children and
young people should feel proud of their ethnicity, some may experience racism which can have
an impact on their self esteem, what they would like to do and their outlook. This factor may
affect how they dress, their dietary requirements and socialising. They may encounter
discrimination an insufficient equality that can effect their opportunities in life. All settings and
staff should show awareness and understanding of their needs. Bereavement and loss The loss of
a loved one such as a parent, sibling, grandparent or friend can turn a child s world upside down.
Grief can bring all sorts of emotions, upset, sadness, hurt and anger because they are gone and,
fear because the child may be afraid of other loved ones dying too. A child can be affected by grief
for a long period of time, and this may impact on their emotional and physical

The Tragedy Of A Tragic Hero
FORMS
Tragedy. The protagonist (hero or heroine) is overcome in the conflict and meets a tragic end. The
tone is serious and build in the audience a fatalistic sense of the inevitability of the outcome and, as
a result, is sometimes frightening. Yet the inescapable aspects of the catastrophe serve as a catharsis
that somehow inexplicably purges the viewer of pity and fear. The significance, then, is not that the
protagonist meets with an inevitable catastrophe, but rather the degree to which he or she deals
with the conflict and the tragedy with dignity, courage, and honor.

Multitasking Myths
The multitasking myth
Multitasking is when you are doing multiple things simultaneously, for example writing an essay or
watching television while answering a phone call. The term multitasking is from a computer
context. The computer is able to run multiple applications or taps simultaneously. On the other
hand, the human body is not made for multitasking, but we do it anyway.
We live in a society where multitasking has become a big part of our life. Nowadays, it is possible
to have the television on, while writing an essay on your computer and checking your phone
constantly. The multitasking also seems a lot faster and more effective than doing just one thing at
a time.
Because multitasking has become such a big deal, many scientists have studied the outcome of
multitasking and if it is a powerful or ineffective thing to do.
A research funded by the company Hewlett Packard discovered a shocking fact about
multitasking. Their research showed that when you are distracted by for example, a phone call or
an email your IQ suffers a fall more than twice than found in marijuana smokers and this threatens
the work environment. Because of our new technology, we use every day, it will be hard to change
our multitasking behavior. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It showed that even though, this generation is based on technology and multitasking it could be
viewed with an inch of optimism. The fact is that in this media concentrated world, our brains are
more likely to adept multitasking and process a multitasking gene . Then the multitasking gene
will be passed along and the changes will be naturally selected. The effect of this will be a
generation who is quicker at receiving information, and as the report says, information is power,

Morning After Pill
There is a pill becoming readily available that would aid in reducing the amount of unwanted
pregnancies. It is the morning after pill as it is being called. This pill can be used during the first
three days after unprotected sexual intercourse to prevent the fertilization of an egg or the
attachment of a fertilized egg to a woman s uterus. The question is not necessarily in the ethical
issue of the pill itself. The problem or question lies in the issue of the pill being sold with or
without a prescription. The measure would allow girls and women to obtain this medication,
without a physician s visit or prescription and without parental consent regardless of the patient s
age.

Not only for the individuals trying to purchase the pill but also for pharmacists. There is a
spillover effect to also consider; how the medication will be sold. Will it be put next to over the
counter drugs or condoms? Or would it be sold only behind the counter, meaning the pharmacist
still must hand then over even though no do prescription is required? These are questions that need
to be considered before making a decision.
In Summary, the pill remedies the chance of ineffectiveness of methods of contraception like birth
control and condoms without invasive surgery. The pill has the potential to reduce the number of
surgical abortions and undesired pregnancies in the United States considerably, especially if it is
provided over the counter. The pill is radically more effective the sooner one takes it after
intercourse and the great advantage of making it available over the counter as opposed to by
prescription only, is that it would give a larger number of women faster and more access to it.
Fortunately, for the women of America, the FDA has recommended making the morning after pill
available over the counter in the United States as it is in other

To make a good article, you are supposed to have a good claim, evidence, and reasoning. You
have to make a stronger article that is better than all the others. Out of these two articles, The

because of their evidence, claim, and reasoning. The Benefits of Shale gas uses relevant evidence
to support his topic. Mostly in the article, he talks about what shale gas is. It says things such as

Pierre Elliott Trudeau Bilingualism
Firstly, Pierre Elliott Trudeau was a significant prime minister in the view of the fact that
he strengthened the Canadian nation by improving the role of QuГ©bec in Canada. Trudeau
demonstrated this fact when he promulgated the Official Languages Act in 1969, which
guaranteed official bilingualism in Canadian service where English government workers had to
learn to speak and understand French. By imposing this act, he wished to preserve and improve the
role that the French language had in Canada. His policy of bilingualism was significant
because keeping a country united was a way to help its advancement. Trudeau played an
important role when he rejected the QuГ©bec s separatist movement by using specific terms such

The Belly Dancer
Coming into this event setting was confusing, set up inside in the cafeteria in a small section
towards the front made it confusing for those of us who have never been in the cafeteria. The
setting alone seems extremely unordinary for a Belly Dancer s venue as most of her body that
should be covered in cafeteria are such as her arm pits and her exposed feet. Her intricate body
movements mirror that of the musical instruments and beats to the song as she swings her hips
from side to side. Her introduction of the prop used which is a sword seemed unique, twirling
around in circles that makes it flow in with her choreography. Going so far as to balance the
sword on her head and gripping it with her teeth which takes a lot of skill to do. Watching the
rhythm of her body in sync with the music shows how much exercise in involved as we can see
her stomach muscles flexing and expanding as if she is doing crunches.

Stress Inoculation
Stress Stress is the wear and tear our bodies experience as we adjust to our continual changing
environment; it has physical and emotional effects on us and can create negative feelings. As a
positive influence, stress can help compel us to action; result in a new awareness and an exciting
new perspective. As a negative influence stress can result in feelings of distrust, rejection anger,
and depression, which in turn can cause health problems such as headaches, upset stomach, rashes,
insomnia, ulcers, high pressure, heart disease, and stroke. (Koop,1998). The long term effects of
stress on one s health are quite significant. The American Academy of Family Physicians has said

Mechanisms that explain why students perform badly under stress include hypervigilance
(excessive alertness to a stressful situation resulting in panic for example, overstudying for an
exam) and premature closure (quickly choosing a solution to end a stressful situation for example,
rushing through an exam). (Falk,1995). Students react to college in a variety of ways. For some
students, college is stressful because it is an abrupt change from high school. For others,
separation from home is a source of stress. Although some stress is necessary for personal growth
to occur, the amount of stress can overwhelm students and affect the ability to cope. Since World
War II, changes in American higher education includes growth has been a loss of personal attention
to students. One measure of excessive stress, or distress, in college students is the use of mental
health services. Symptoms commonly report by campus psychiatrists portray a general picture of
school related stress, for example, the inability to do school work and the fear of academic failure.
One way for teachers to promote more of a healthy learning environment is to reduce stress among
students. Studies of teachings that produces the most learning suggest that effective teachers use an
analytical and synthetic approach to the subject matter, organize the material well to make it clear,
and establish rapport with their students. Most

Tuesdays With Morrie Thesis
The Last Thesis Tuesday is the day to grasp knowledge of the most essential lesson a mentor can
teach: life. According the Mitch, this sentence holds true. In his memoir, Tuesdays with Morrie,
Mitch Albom reflects on the last days he spent with his professor: Tuesdays. Mitch and his
professor from college, Morrie Schwartzreunited sixteen years after Mitch graduated from Brandeis
University and following Mitch learning of the disease, ALS, deteriorating his teacher; the two
decided they would meet every Tuesday. Tuesdays with Morrieincludes educating chapters filled
with advice about key life messages extended outside of the classroom. Throughout the entirety of
the book, Albom s provokes the best in people: kindness, forgiveness, love,... Show more content on

Although every chapter there is a simple lesson being illustrated, Morrie s tough skin allows him to
push through a terrible disease and make the most of the time he still has left. In the fourth chapter,
Morrie talks about death and gives the advice, once you learn how to die, you learn how to live
(Albom 82). To emphasize, Morrie is going through a fatal disease, and even though he knows
he is going to pass away, he continues to push through adversity. Most people, when faced with
affiliation collapse. Instead, Morrie takes the worst in situations, learns from it, and becomes a
better person because of it. Mitch is attempting to get the reader to persevere through any
troubling obstacle tossed their way. Additionally. Albom has a simplistic writing style that I
enjoyed; it made for an easy read. The book flowed well even though it would bounce back to
reflect on their past at the end of every chapter. I still enjoyed this aspect of the book because it
gave me a glimpse into their previous relationship together and helped me understand the book
better. The only complaint I have is the short read: 199 pages. Albom could have expanded the
story with extra details so the reader was able to savor the book longer. Overall, Mitch Albom does
a remarkable job of telling his story in the form of a

  • 2. An Analysis Of Dean Spade s Normal Life The Western thought functions through strongly rooted beliefs that have been prevalent for so long, that the accuracy goes unquestioned. But just because it has gone on for so long, does not mean it is the most efficient way of processing the world. The basis of biological determinism is used to interpret and understand members of society, using predetermined categorizes to comprehend identity. Furthermore, it is important to realize that using such a methodology for judgment leads to perceiving race, gender, sexuality, and other identity markers in such a way that is exclusive and unjust. Viewing society in regard to biology has various ramifications that impact the lives of every individual. By functioning through biological determinism,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the book Normal Life, Dean Spade explains that the dispersion of power helps the creation of norms that distribute vulnerability and security (4). This illustrates that not only does biology determine who receives power and who doesn t, it also influences the norms that society upholds. Through this perspective, biology determines how much a person is worth and predicts their future. For those who do not have the ideal biology, they are left powerless and stranded in their fixed conditions. Furthermore, those who are defined to be powerful must be protected from those others (Spade, 5). This operation of norms is used to justify the exclusion of powerless populations from programs that distribute wealth and life chances and attempts to validate the targeting of these same populations for imprisonment and violence (Spade, 5). In reality, biology destines some groups to flourish, to acquire enhanced opportunities, and to be treated in a way that benefits their success. At the cost of this group, comes the groups that are being held back and facing an inevitable doomed future; the norms produce security for some population and vulnerability for others (Spade, 5). Through dividing power based on individuals biology, the sexist and racist mindsets are reinforced and the conditions of violence, exploitation, and poverty are upheld (Spade, 5). The quantity of power impact[s] how we know our selves as subjects through these systems of meaning and control the ways we understand our own bodies, the things we believe about ourselves and our relationships with other people and with institutions, and the ways we imagine change and transformation (Spade, 6). The amount of power one obtains indicates to themselves, and to others, how much control and worth they have within society. It also influences how situations are interpreted, formation of personal beliefs, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Sexual Assault On Women In The Military The amount of sexual assaults on women in the U.S. military rests unbearably great. In a 2006 study, it showed that female veterans financed by the Department of Veterans Affairs estimated that about 23 33 percent of women have been assaulted, compared to the 17 percent of women in the general population. As well as this study a recent Pentagon report had showed that in the academic year of 2010 2011 there we 65 reported assaults that involved female cadets and midshipmen. Since many victims are too terrified to come forward about their attacks, it is estimated that about 19,000 assaults took place in the year of 2011. This number is six times the number of attacks reported. There have been many attempts to fight this issue, such as giving ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Describe the environment, as viewed by Michael Porter s model of competitive forces, that Valuejet was trying to compete in. consider competition, suppliers, customers, new entrants, substitute products? The five competitive forces that shape strategy are competition, suppliers, customers, new entrants, substitute products. Michael E. Porter demonstrates how the five competitive forces can be used in any industry. The results from all five forces not only look at the narrow aspect of competition rivals but as well as broader aspect of competitive interaction within an industry. These five competitive forces can also be used in the case of Valuejet. Competition within the airline industry is highly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... ValuJet hire Sabretech, owned by Sabreliner, and licensed by the FAA to perform critical work. If I was a manager for this company I wouldn t of hire Sabretech. By looking at Sabretech I can see that they were lacking an ethical structure. A Structure that should represent various systems, position, and programs of a company to encourage and support ethical behavior. Such as whistle blowing an employee disclosure of illegal, unethical practices. By encouraging whistle blowing employees would not delay in telling regulatory agencies. • 5. The Wife s Lament Analysis What is exile? Exile is the action of one being kicked out of their home or native land, usually as a punishment. According to Anglo Saxons, all exile is a model of the banishment of humankind from its rightful place in Heaven. Exile is a pretty frequent theme of Anglo Saxon literature by symbolizing this in many different scenarios and using different characters and places. Since the religionof christianitywas so important to the Anglo Saxons, this was a scary thing for many of them to find in their literature. After one examines the lyrics in The Seafarer, The Wanderer, and The Wife s Lament, one will notice that exile is included in all three of these Anglo Saxon stories. In each of these stories, the theme of exile is prominently emphasized through at least one detail. For example, in the stories The Seafarer and The Wanderer, the theme of exile is demonstrated and emphasized through the use of water. The narrators in these stories are on sea voyages and water is used to represent their separation, or exile, from their original home. In the story The Wife s Lament, the theme of exile is demonstrated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Eventually during her suffering, she decides that she needs to go out to try to find her husband, but the husband s kinsmen decided to keep the wife shut out from him. Moreover, the narrator is left to continue suffering from her exile. My man s kinsmen began to plot by darkened thought to divide us two so we most widely in the world s kingdom lived wretchedly and I suffered longing (lns. 11 14). Since exile is supposed to represent the separation of people from christianity according to Anglo Saxons, this story could have evoked sadness and fear onto Anglo Saxons by being a sorrowful way to symbolize this ... And while I m at it I d just like to say that the Soundtrack and background music is both corny and....not very good. Out of the 10 Songs used in the movie only 1 is decent (Don t You Forget About Me by Simple Minds) and even I don t like it while the rest of the songs to say the least are quite rubbish unless you absolutely LOVED both the movie and the 80 s music scene then you d probably not like it. In my own opinion I believe that this movie is run on its own characterization as it IS about stereotypes at school. I d like to start on describing my personal favourite character of the movie, John Bender (Played by Judd Nelson). John Bender is a stereotypical Criminal/Rebel complete with Denim Jacket, Leather Gloves and a Bandana. He talks with confidence as he says what he pleases to either to annoy or anger others for his own amusement and when he has to, stand up for what/who he believes in. Judd Nelson acted out the character of John brilliantly as you can really imagine Judd in real life truly acting this way as he has given such a realistic performance that is both entertaining and true. I believe that without the character of John Bender, The Breakfast Club as a movie would really be missing that extra punch that made it such a hit with all his funny comebacks and entertaining scenes lead by Bender. • 7. Relationship Between China And South Asia Introduction: Since the mid 20th century an unlikely formidable alliance had slowly began to flourish in South Asia. China and Pakistan s alliance began in the early 1960 s through the early 1970 s when conflicts between India vs. China and Pakistan had intensified. The Sino Indian war that took place in 1962 ended as fast as it began. Along with the war that had taken place between India and Pakistan in 1965 and in 1971 when another indo Pakistani war erupted and East Pakistan claimed independence and is known today as Bangladesh (Hagerty, 2002). In this comparison China and Pakistan had identified their similar interests with their historical and geographical concerns in maintaining India s power and influence within Southeast Asia (Federal China Security Affairs Group [FCSAG], 2010). These are known as Geo Political interests. There are many definitions of geopolitics but this one more specifically entails the competition over the control of territory and extraction of resources (Jonatan, 2012) China and Pakistan have built a friendship that is, higher than mountains, deeper than oceans, sweeter than honey, and stronger than steel (Tharoor, 2015), they are collaborating on military technologies and supporting one another s economic interests. Although the contrasts of these two countries greatly outweigh this entente, with concerns over insurgencies in Pakistan such as it being a safe haven for the Afghani Taliban, said United States President Barack Obama in ... • 8. Analysis Of Michael Hoffman s The Best Of Me I love who I am when I m with you, Amanda. You are my dearest friend, my deepest love. You are the very best of me. (Dawson). Everyone wants a love similar to Amanda s and Dawson s, in Michael Hoffman s The Best of Me. This analysis will explore how flashbacks show the characters background and history, the plot is based on the growth of the characters, and the irony of specific points in the movie. Michael Hoffman s The Best of Me is relevant today, because love does not occur in isolation with only two people. In addition to a couple s own responses to life situations, pressures from outsiders both positive and negative, are placed on every couple. Michael Hoffman uses flashbacks to show the setting and specific events that occurred twenty one years ago. Through the flashbacks you can see why the characters act the way that they do. The audience is presented with background information and past experiences. The flashbacks show how being back where Dawson and Amanda first met each other and fell in love effects their emotions in the present. Reliving their past by eating at Tuck s house, Dawson giving Amanda the same type of flower, and spending the afternoon and night at the cottage shows the audience how their feelings for each other had never gone away, but were only repressed until then. You want me to fall back in love with you? How do I do that if I haven t ever stopped? (Amanda). Mills Goodloe and Will Fetters, the screenplay writers, using bildungsroman , chose ... • 9. Town Hall By Michelle Malkin Summary Even though Michelle Malkin, a republican columnist for Town Hall, is for Trump and is obviously happy he will be President, the one thing she is totally against is millenials and the fact that they are going to be able to continuously be on their parent s insurance plan until 26. She uses humor, sarcasm, and evidenceto prove a point in this article that preserving this plan is harming society instead of helping it. Throughout the entire article, her voice was very strong and evident on how she felt about this topic. She explains her points well by using strong language. Malkin also uses a lot of dry, sarcastic humor, to really drive her points across. For example, when mentioning the maximum age children can be before getting kicked off... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I agree that in general, we are more lazy and are a tad hypocritical. Thinking that just because you don t have to work since you are under 26 and quit your job to do more meaningful things, that is not necessarily considered a good, productive thing. But being one, a millennial that is, I also see the other side of the argument. I believe that we can be the most productive when we are passionate about something and the idea that non millennials have little to no faith in what we can accomplish has a very negative outcome in what we then actually do. We are very proud of who we are for the most part, and that may just be part of our generation s view on how life works, but generalizing every single child under 26 or 31 to say that they are not the most motivated and all we want is free stuff and to not have to work is not true. If I were to do a study, I bet it would show that they are only happy to still be apart of their parent s plans because they are broke and what is most likely the main reason they are broke? They are college students who are trying to pay for continuing their education so they can further use talents to help the economy all the while taking disses from the older generation saying how we are so lazy and only want free stuff. Times change, and along with change, there needs to be adaptations. I do not know enough to say what the mandates should or should not be, but I do not think that stereotyping us is not going to ... • 10. The Importance Of A Civic Engagement Opportunity As A... The Civic Engagement assignment illustrates the value of incorporating a civic engagement opportunity as a supplement to traditional lecture and reading materials. While this assignment differs from service learning, the civic learning that takes place during the semester leads to the development of knowledge, skills, and community contacts that are necessary for active citizenship. As described throughout this paper, despite the passive sounding title of courtroom observation, this assignment requires significant interaction and engagement with court personnel to be completed successfully. Since my father is a sheriff s deputy, it was easy for me to gain clearance to sit in the jury s box and to watch criminal plea charges. The process I observed was startling because I did not imagine that, in one morning, a single courtroom could go through almost five pages of client sentences (approximately forty clients). In addition, I gained a better understanding of how courts operate without the presence of a jury. Still, I was confused; What is the purpose of the judicial center? Who else is involved? Are charges fairly made? It was 7:30 a.m. on Monday, November 7, 2016. I woke up, took a cold shower, put on my formal attire, and then left with my father to go to the judicial center at the McDonough Square. By 8:00 a.m., my father introduced me to the sheriff deputies that had scanned me into the building. Officer Thomas Palmer, also called Tiny, acted as my tour ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Difference Between Modernist And Modernism Modernist Postmodernist Design in 20th century is influenced on modernist and postmodernist philosophies. Before development of Modernism, taste was dictated to the wealthy classes by the whims of the king or other Г©lite figures (emperors come to mind). Tradition was the dictated rule and deviating from that resulted in ridicule. The idea of Modernism was the basis for 20th Century design, fashion and art. It still affects us today. Ironically, Modernism evolved from looking to the past, at a time when mass production and consumption had taken over from style and taste. In the mid 19th Century, groups of designers rebelled against mass production and used the best of what the past could offer to bring a new attitude towards taste and style. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Post modernism is made up of many sub cultures and genres with different particular aims. The best, simple definition which we can use is that post modernism is a reaction against modernism and responds to the social and political issues of today. Modernism was destined to disappoint as it continued to preoccupy itself with the reductionist chase for empirical fact. Post modernism often produces what appears to be fiction which grows or matures towards fact. Postmodernism shattered established ideas about style and brought a radical freedom to art and design. At its height in the 1980s, postmodern designers such as the Memphis group, Alessi and Arad, contributed to the new wave: a few thrilling years when image was everything. The traditional values of marriage and family no longer exist; with women having the same status in the work place as men and also not settling down until later in life. A lot of couples choose not to have children at all. Religion also has less of an effect on society as it used to, it is almost becoming irrelevant to many people. Postmodernism has become a description of these shifts in contemporary society and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The National Association For Music Education Break Point 4.1 The National Association for Music Education has several general standards put into place (the National Coalition for Core Arts Standards). These standards center around the theme of music literacy and attempt to improve the three most important aspects of music learning: creating, performing, and responding. These aspects are designed to be applied to a student s musical performance as well as their conduct in the community. The standards are used throughout the United States, introducing new topics throughout a child s preschool 8th grade education. They are also provided in small strands throughout high schools. Teachers implement these techniques through the teaching of theory, music history, collaboration, creating and performing throughout their own individual curricula. They also have created Model Cornerstone Assessments, which are designed to measure a student s academic achievement and performance within the Core Arts Standards. As far as arts in the schools go, NAfME also has several organizations which help to promote music in schools across America. During the Roaring Twenties, the economy was booming at its highest. Families enjoyed larger paychecks for shorter work hours and days. New commodities were introduced to the consumer market. Even though wages were rising, a new economic plan, called credit, was instituted. Instead of direct buying, an initial deposit was required with weekly or monthly installments. People who could never afford new inventions such as radios, cars, or electric household appliances, were able to purchase these items on credit. The cultural divide between geographically separate areas was bridged through these new innovations. In 1992 a Texas newspaper began to run investigative reports that Koresh was abusing children at the compound. Koresh openly advocated polygamy for himself and select members of the group. Koresh claimed to be married to several of the female group members. People outside of the group began claiming that they were a cult because of the authoritarian structure with Koresh being the all powerful leader. It is said by some survivors that Koresh had at least a hundred and forty wives. He was also entitled to take any female at anytime. Allegations that he fathered at least a dozen children by his numerous wives began to arise in newspaper reports. Some of the wives were as young as twelve or thirteen years old. Also in 1992 a UPS deliveryman alerted local sheriff deputies that objects similar to grenade casings were delivered to the compound. • 35. Goodbye to All That Analytical Essay A Fair City I could speak of Joan Didion s use of rhetorical devices. I could describe every subtle simile she imposes and preach of her incredible use of personification, but I think the most important piece of the essay would, then, be neglected. In Goodbye to All That, Didion compares her experiences in New York to the occurrences at a fair. This metaphor is discussed in a very roundabout way. Ultimately, though, Didion (like anybody) grew tired and dissatisfied with the fair (in her case NYC). Fairs lure people in through the gates with bright lights, loud buzzers, and exhilarating games. These same tactics help to attract tourists to New York City. Like a kid at a fair, Didion becomes enticed by such distractions and cannot ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She admits, Even that late in the game I still liked going to parties, all parties, bad parties (p.687). The connection to the fair in this case stems from a child s ability to be so keyed up and eager to play as many games as they can, that they will even play games they do not like. Bad games (Intentional fragment). This view and interest of the city, this time at the fair, ends. The ending is not a definite point in time, but instead a gradual distaste for the details. Like the same child at the same fair, at the same time, every year, Didion outgrows the city and is no longer intrigued. She states, I stopped believing in new faces (p.687) and realizes, It is distinctively possible to stay too long at the Fair (p.687). She cannot stand the identical conversations at Grand Central, the stuck up women on Madison Ave., Times Square, or the New York Public Library. Eventually, Didion avoids these places. Like a boy who has outgrown the annual fair, she promises to return after a six month leave of absence. Three years after Didion made that promise, she finds herself returning to the fair. Back in New York, she realizes her acquaintances are no more and her friends had moved. She states, We stayed for ten days, and then we took the afternoon flight back to Los Angeles (p.688). Boys, a couple years removed from the correct age for attending the fair, promise to return. Sometimes they do return and sometimes they do not. Like Didion did, they ... With seniors, there could be sensitive dietary restrictions such as ones related to diabetes, lactose, and gluten, to name a few. Hence, it is also important to keep in mind that these potlucks would need to be regulated to ensure that all allergies and restrictions are made aware of to the group. The staff could then decide whether certain food items should not be allowed at the potlucks or if warning labels should be used for certain foods. Syria is the best example of a country with many cultural heritage sites and museums that are in danger due to conflict. The onset of the Syrian Civil War and the destruction of ancient objects and cultural heritage sites by ISIS have been the most recent manifestation of this. As a result of the Syrian Civil War and ISIS takeover, sites like Palmyra and the Aleppo historic city center have been heavily damaged ( The Race to Save Syria s Archaeological Treasures. 2016). It is believed that this process should be a matter that every American citizen should be informed of in order to fully understand and appreciate the inner workings of congress with regard to The House of Representatives and the Senate. The steps in which a bill becomes a law is an example of the democratic way of life here in The United States. • 42. The Positive Connotation In Thou Blind Man s Mark For many people, the word desire carries a positive connotation, bringing to mind dreams of things that could be. In Sir Philip Sidney s poem Thou Blind Man s Mark, however, desire is characterized not as a wistful thing, but as a dangerous compulsion that must be stopped. Through Sidney s extensive use of figurative language and repetition, it is made clearthat the speakerclearly despises desire due to the horrible things desire can lead to. This expresses the idea that people must look inside themselves to gain true happinessrather than desiring for things that can never be. The speaker s negative attitude toward desire is established early on in the poem as the speaker compares desire to many dreadful things in an almost ironic way. Desire is first described as a blind man s mark, which creates a dark irony and sets the negative tone for the rest of the poem (1). A blind man would not be able to see his target, so therefore he would not be able to clearly aim at the target. Rather, he must shoot blindly and hope to hit the mark, which is what desire causes people to do. Desire can also be seen as a fool s self chosen snare, implying that those who desire are foolish because they chose to fall into the trap of desire rather than attempting to avoid it (1). These metaphors begin to characterize desire as foolish and something that one cannot control. The metaphors in the next line set up the speakers personal view on desire, as a fond fancy scum and dregs ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In his memoir, Tuesdays with Morrie, Mitch Albom reflects on the last days he spent with his professor: Tuesdays. Mitch and his professor from college, Morrie Schwartzreunited sixteen years after Mitch graduated from Brandeis University and following Mitch learning of the disease, ALS, deteriorating his teacher; the two decided they would meet every Tuesday. Tuesdays with Morrieincludes educating chapters filled with advice about key life messages extended outside of the classroom. Throughout the entirety of the book, Albom s provokes the best in people: kindness, forgiveness, love,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although every chapter there is a simple lesson being illustrated, Morrie s tough skin allows him to push through a terrible disease and make the most of the time he still has left. In the fourth chapter, Morrie talks about death and gives the advice, once you learn how to die, you learn how to live (Albom 82). To emphasize, Morrie is going through a fatal disease, and even though he knows he is going to pass away, he continues to push through adversity. Most people, when faced with affiliation collapse. Instead, Morrie takes the worst in situations, learns from it, and becomes a better person because of it. Mitch is attempting to get the reader to persevere through any troubling obstacle tossed their way. Additionally. Albom has a simplistic writing style that I enjoyed; it made for an easy read. The only complaint I have is the short read: 199 pages. Albom could have expanded the story with extra details so the reader was able to savor the book longer. Overall, Mitch Albom does a remarkable job of telling his story in the form of a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
