Refugee Challenges For Refugees
The current refugee scene is facing many complications. The challenges these
individuals face while moving to a new country has encouraged us to focus our
project on providing refugees with the assistance they need to succeed. Exploring
different areas such as connections and services through an interview process has
given us a better insight into what path to take to better accommodate refugees with
the challenges in their current country. When conducting interviews our group kept
in mind the practicality of the refugee s situation. Since for many individuals, this
time in their lives is emotional we decided to reach out to the individuals that help
refugees. When deciding who to contact for interviews we kept all our options
open, communicating with immigration officers, program managers, University of
Waterloo volunteers and teachers etc. First, we created a target list of many
individuals that we were interested to hear from. Our first point of contact was
email, with some participants they emailed their answers to us, however with
others they preferred to communicate through the phone. In the end, all of the

Doug Dorph describes children s imaginationand compares it to adulthood. The
parents in these poems are able to rely upon space or visualize it as to having an

Roughly a year later, the newlyweds had their first daughter, named Paula. Three
years later, in 1966, their son Nicolas was born. While taking care of two young
children, Allende s cousin president Salvador Allendewas killed on September 11,
1973 in a duel against another government official. Realizing that her family was in
danger, Allende made the decision for her and her family to move to Caracas,
Venezuela in 1975. As if this was not enough, Allende s grandfather became sick in
1981 and passed away after some time. While her grandfather was sick, Allende

Incident
Countee Cullen was an African American poet during the early 1900s. Countee
became renowned during the Harlem Renaissance of the 1920s, a time where black
writers and artists were featured prominently. His most influential poems are Tableau
and Incident. Both of the poems, by Countee Cullen, show how racismplays a large
part in how people perceive each other. He demonstrates this by using figurative
language, and tone that contribute to the theme of both of the poems.
In his poem Tableau he shows figurative language by comparing the two boys to
day and night, The black boy and the white, The golden splendor of the day / The

Countee Cullen uses figurative language and tone in both poems to create a theme.
In his poem Tableau the message that the audience can perceive is that friendship
shouldn t be based on stereotypes. The central part of the poem that can show how
the theme attributes is when the African American child and the white child join in
unison and cross arms, Locked arm in arm they cross the way (Cullen 1). At the
beginning of the poem, this showed how the children don t care if they are a different
race, their friendship overcomes that. Countee Cullen also uses his figurative style
and tone in the poem Incident . The author reveals the theme to be words can be
powerful. In the poem, this is seen when the African American child goes to
Baltimore and sees a white child and gets called a damaging name, And so I smiled,
but he poked out / His tongue and called me, Nigger. (Cullen 7,8). Just from that only
word, all of his views on Baltimore changed. The use of diction and figurative
