A Statistical Physics Model ( Or Soal )
A Statistical Physics Model ( or SOAL Stochastically Oriented Asymmetric Localization) for Axon
Outgrowth Patterning Normally, at the leading edge, the molecular mechanism produces axon
outgrowth activity and moves plasma membrane extension of HSN cell body in the ventral direction
(Adler et al., 2006). However, in mutants, the different directions of axon outgrowth from the HSN
cell body scored to create a probability distribution for axon outgrowth activity directions, diffusion
and displacement (Tang and Wadsworth, 2014). Therefore, the axon outgrowth pattering is altering.
Previous study reported that the extracellular guidance cues, including UNC 6/Netrin and its receptor
have role in determining the axon outgrowth ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Using the probability distribution, we compared the probabilities in wild type and mutants. For
example, UNC 6/Netrin extracellular guidance cues can decreases or increase the probability of UNC
40 activity at each side of the neuron. Thus, this probability is directed as a stochastic process. In more
evidence, the probability of axon outgrowth activity in ventral direction is decreased, whereas the
probability of axon outgrowth in other directions is increased in mutants (Xu et al., 2009; Kulkarni et
al, 2013; Yang et al., 2014; Tang and Wadsworth, 2014). Therefore, the guidance cues control the
direction of movement fluctuates over time. We report that this probabilities can cause different
regions of the neurons plasma membrane to move in different directions. Thus the axon outgrowth
extension morphology is abnormal and cause new axon outgrowth patterning. Genetic evidence
indicates that UNC 40/DCC, a central regulator of polarization in multicellular animals (Ziel and
Sherwood, 2010), mediates several signals that regulates the polarization and orientation in response
to UNC 6/Netrin. UNC 40::GFP clusters randomly along the cell surface in response to polarization
signal whereas the orientation signal causes the UNC 40::GFP cluster toward specific direction (Xu et
al., 2009; Kulkarni et al., 2013; Tang and Wadsworth, 2014). Consisting with a random walk, we
hypothesize that random walk used to

The Ceo Of Procter And Gamble
1) Identify the CEO and characterize his leadership style. The CEO of Procter and Gamble is Alan G.
Lafley. Mr. Lafley had recently retired from the company in 2009 after being CEO for 10 years. After
only three years, P G s new CEO Robert McDonald resigned because of declining sales and the
complaints of investors. Thus, bringing back Alan Lafley to try and bring the company back to
stability. His type of leadership style is one with high expectations of everyone within the company.
He is a leader that also relies a lot on his manager s input for the development of new ideas for the
company. As the Wall Street Journal reported, he more than doubled sales to nearly $84 billion while
CEO of P G, partially through smart acquisitions like Gillette and other premium and beauty brands
(DuBose). 2) Determine the main countries in which the company competes and its global strategy.
Two of the main countries in which Procter and Gamble compete in are China and Brazil. China has
been the number one or two country for the company for many years. China just continues to grow
and has 10 running factories for P G. Since only 2009, China has had a 63.3% sales growth
(Coolidge). Beauty and personal care products report for nearly two thirds of Chinas sales. Brazil on
the other hand has had a 91.9% sales growth since 2009 (Coolidge). In Brazil, their beauty and
personal care products make up almost three fourths of its total sales. The country in general wants

Letting Go of Home
The East has a preoccupation with losing their home and the West is on a quest to recover it. However,
the West can accept that the home they seek may not exist anymore and imagine a future without it
whereas the East can see no acceptable alternative. We can see this when we compare Salman Rushdie
s At The Auction of the Ruby Slippers (ATARS) to his The Prophet s Hair.
The West is trying to reclaim the home they have lost and the East is trying to stop the home they have
from slipping away. Both stories contain portraits of a better past. However, ATARS is referencing the
past of the West, whereas The Prophet s Hair is referencing the present of the East.
ATARS is related to the reader by a single character, as it happens, in the ... Show more content on

The Gale the narrator loves is not the real Gale, who he recently saw at the bar, but his idea of what
their home would be if they had stayed together. He realizes this. In The Prophet s Hair, the instinct of
the family is to piece their home back together, not to move away from the destructive force of
Hashim and The Prophet s Hair. An alternative to family is never considered because the East cannot
see a future without home. This seems like a trite observation, because it is likely that there is a reason
they never considered leaving a cultural reason. Perhaps it was unthinkable in their society for a
family to desert its male leader, but this is exactly the point. They never consider an alternative
because of the context of the culture.
The fact that the narrator of ATARS can see that his home may no longer exist, gives him the
perspective to see an alternative, that the East cannot. The reason that the East cannot see the
alternatives to its home that the West can is because that alternative is based on two ideas central to
Western culture: freedom and the free market. ATARS ends with the narrator feeling a reduction in
weight , a floating (102). The final passage is full of phrases which connote lightness: weightlessness ,
float away and letting go: lie down [...] to rest (102). The narrator finds resolution of his need for
home in his freedom. The final passage of ATARS also

Community Oriented Policing Pros And Cons
The chief of the Abington Police, Chief William (Bill) Kelly came to the campus on Thursday to talk
with the criminal justice class about policing. Chief Kelly has been serving for forty three years
between police forces in the states of Ohio and Pennsylvania and has been a police chief for thirty
three years. With his years of experience, Chief Kelly talked about primarily three main ideas:
Problem Solving, Community Oriented Policing and Abington s Approach to Policing.
Problem Solving policing is an officer s ability to assess and properly address any given situation. To
utilize problem solving successfully, it is necessary to use the three types of knowledge police officers
use when faced with a situation: Classical, Situational, and Procedural. Chief Kelly then proceeded to
use these principal to explain the events 9/11, being that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Not only has the department won several international and national awards, but there is a huge
partnership between the community and the police force. Chief Kelly mentioned that is was all to
accredit to the COPPSSAT program that the department has. COPPSSAT has four main goals for all
officers that have made this department so successful. The first goal was to actually asses and look at
the criminal rates to show where and what types of criminal are predominate in the area. From there
the officers try to help those at risk. By using the mindset of establishing a good relationship with the
community, it has helped the department reach out to the minority groups located in Abington. So if
any sort of discrimination fears against police are an issue, these groups are working with the police to
help form a better relationship. Arguably the most important goal, Chief Kelly set a goal to ASK the
Community of their Concerns. By focusing on these goals, it has helped the Abington police force
stand out from their counterparts; this is the reason for all of the

Slavery Argument Against Slavery
Slavery, though it was an inexcusable, helped shape the nation that we live in today. In the last few
weeks, I have become much more knowledgeable on the topic of slavery. People on both sides of the
slavery argument (pro slavery and anti slavery) earnestly believed in what they stood for. The
resistance to the end of slavery was likely out of fear, but some of the proslavery arguments were
completely ridiculous. John C. Calhoun once noted that slavery was necessary to keep the United
States from having internal conflicts. He believed that it was the free blacks that caused the social
disturbances in the North. Numerous southern slave owners held this same view, in fact, many were
convinced that the South was exempt from these disturbances because many of the African Americans
were slaves and had no means to cause these public disturbances. For these Southerners, slavery was
not just a practice, but a way of life. They feared what would happen if slavery was to be abolished.
This is proven because, years before the civil war was even a thought, the South was already starting
to get defensive about the question of slavery. Even though the practice of slavery was a big part of
how Southerners lived their daily lives, Calhoun s argument of why slavery was a necessary good
lacked foundation. Under no circumstances is acceptable to treat another human being as property. It
makes no difference as to whether or not they are of an inferior race, color, or cognitive

An Essay on The Withered Arm, by Thomas Hardy
An Essay on The Withered Arm, by Thomas Hardy
The past is a foreign country. They did things differently there.
The Go Between by L.P. Hartley.
Thomas Hardy, a Victorian novelist, based his stories on experience of growing up in rural Dorset.
Growing up there, he became familiar with the language, customs, practises and stories of the country
folk.
These stories draw up on his experiences enabling him to write Wessex
Tales . Among many pieces of work is The Withered Arm . The Withered
Arm is a well crafted short story written in the prose format. The quote above portrays what pre
twentieth century literature should embrace; good literature should be insightable, realistic and
significant to all people from any era. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rhoda s jealousy plays an important role throughout the story. In her desperation and curiosity to see
her antagonist s appearance, she sends her son in search for Gertrude, asking him to report back on her
appearance. I shall want to send to the market, and you ll be pretty sure meet her. ...You can giver her
a look and tell me what she s like, if you do see her.
Hardy uses the supernatural event of Rhoda speculating the ghost to bring a sense of mystery and
tension into the readers mind. At this point we grasp a gruesome, witch image of Gertrude with
features shockingly disorted and wrinkled by the age. His use of words and description brings the
dream to reality; making the reader feel as though they are experiencing it. When Gertrude reveals her
left limb to Rhoda, it forces Rhoda to make believe that she is a witch. Our belief to whether Rhoda
really is a witch is then strongly influenced as Gertrude says, ...my husband says it is as if some witch,
or the devil himself had taken hold of me there... Gertrude s desperation and journey to find a cure for
her diseased arm means she must transact a gruesome deed; to touch with the limb the neck of a man
who s been hanged...before he is cold just after he is cut down. The more educated and upper class did
not share the faith in witchcraft of the lower class. It is a measure of Gertrude s desperation and vanity
that she seeks the help of the

Analysis Of Forced Founders By Woody Holton
Throughout Forced Founders: Indians, Debtors, Slaves, and the Making of the American Revolution
in Virginia, Woody Holton argues that the causes of the Revolutionary War are different than what
most people once concluded. Although many American s believe that George Washington and Thomas
Jefferson are the men who led this revolution, Holton brings up a new theory on how the war began.
As Holton s title states, he believes that Indians, debtors, and slaves had a bigger role in the making of
the American Revolution. Throughout the entire novel, Holton argues that the American Revolution is
not led by the elite men of Virginia, but the nonessential people are those who play the biggest roles in
the making of this war.
Holton begins his book ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The main problems between this group of people is their opinions about slave trade. The British
government s insistence on keeping slave trade is one of the main causes of Virginia s separation from
Great Britain (73). The merchants, of course, did not want to break ties with Britain because trading
was their income. Therefore, one difference of opinion and thousands of lives of slaves is what Holton
argues is another main reason for the cause of the American Revolution.
The second part of the book focusses on the boycotts that the Virginians inaugurated in order to
receive what they wanted from Great Britain. Holton argues that these boycotts are also a huge part of
what started the American Revolution. The American colonist established the nonimportation
association in order to pressure Parliament to repeal laws that endangered their civil liberties (78). The
importance of these boycotts is evident in history because they played a huge role in the starting of the
American Revolution because not only did these boycotts help start the revolution, but they also ended
it. Without these boycotts and without the colonist pushing to have their way there would have never
been any change. Not only that, but these boycotts helped create the conditions for the greatest
movement of black resistance that Virginia had ever known (105). This was the beginning of freedom
for the slaves from their owners, as well

Aokigahara s Suicide Forest Analysis
It was his job. He was the who had to show no fear, to not let his bones rattle him to the core, to let his
voice falter and crack in the middle of his job. To never waiver when death is in the air, creeping
around, surrounding his body in the aura of it s presence. When the stench of the past lingers and even
communicates with him, it was routine for him. After all, it was his job; although sometimes he felt it
was too much for him, but he loved the adrenaline it induced. When it coursed through his veins, he
felt alive; more alive than anything around him. In this case, it was true because as a paranormal

but he proceeds anyways. He acquires a rental car and drives over an hour to the forest, parking close

looks left and sees no end to the treeline, even looking to the right and getting the same result. The

Vertical Collaboration Vs Vertical Coordination
According to Reframing Organizations the benefits of a formal structure helps a company to not waste
time and money especially on training products in an effort to solve problems that deal with social
architecture instead of people. Structure, basically a blueprint for internal management/ employees
and external constituencies like clients and competitors to follow. It has been said that structural form
enhances and constrains what an organization can accomplish. Originations that are successful
incorporate a variety of methods to coordinate individual and group efforts and to link local initiatives
to worldwide goals. They accomplish this by using both vertical and lateral coordination, they both
support growth in the organization. Vertical coordination is more through the chains of command.
Higher ups maintain the work of subordinates through authority, policy procedures, and planning
control. A great example of vertical coordination is farming. Ensuring each stage in the production,
processing, and marketing of a product is appropriately managed and interrelated to the next, so that
decisions about what to produce, and how much, are communicated as efficiently as possible from the
consumer to the producer (Vertical coordination. (n.d.). Retrieved March 12, 2016, from

The Pros And Cons Of LASPO Reform
LASPO Revisited: The Rehabilitation Revolution Fallacy
Contrary to popular belief, LASPO was not an altruistic act by the government, it was opportunism
necessitated by two incidents. The first and more compelling need for ROA reform followed a Court
of Appeal ruling in December 2013, in which a blanket release of old and minor conviction recordable
information to employers was criticised as being against article eight of the Human Rights Act.
The second reason was a study by the Department for Work and Pensions and the Ministry of Justice
in 2011 that found one third of the unemployed had a criminal record.
In response to the Court of Appeal ruling, the government did the minimum required raising the age of

Prison spending cuts, a decimated legal aid system, don t declare unless you re asked and make your
cheques out to the DBS and not the CRB. This is the government listening? Meanwhile, funding and
donations for the various charities continues, and it all rolls on for another few decades.
I m a bit too long in the tooth to be fooled for another four decades and saw what was going to happen
even before Clarke was removed. I was told back then that this was going to be the big revolution and
I had my doubts. The inquiry and various forums and charities influenced nothing absolutely zero.
Cameron ran rings around the whole lot and to imply that the forum influences anything is
disillusioned. How many people has LASPO removed from the ROA? What new laws have been
brought in to stop those employers illegally asking about checks? How many people actually benefit
from LASPO?
In my opinion, Cameron was at one time sincere about changes, but the public and political backlash
put paid to that. In that respect, the government will only ever do what the public perception wants it
to do. Discrimination laws, equality, racism laws . . . The government can change things if it really
wants to. The current austerity measures are an example of unpopular decisions made against the

The zombies body was in remarkably good shape, the flesh wounds had healed quickly due to the
nano tech. Zero stretched the things tendons before waking Dana from her slumber. She had taken a
knock during the crash and had suffered a minor concussion. The wild look in her eyes was enough to
tell him she was wide awake now and he left her alone. Something about this body disturbed the
human and it was something Zero couldn t understand. The Tic pod was cramped at best holding a
small squad and not much more. Releasing the hatch he watched as powerful hydraulics forced open a
jaw like structure designed to tear open enemy ships. The wall crumbled under the pressure, opening a
clear path into the next room. Dust swirled in the air and the lights flickered giving the room a
menacing feel, although to the artificial intelligence they were all just variables that could not be

advanced the mech body far enough Zero started the time cloak. He didn t expect it to go unnoticed
but it might at least buy them a little time and give them an opportunity for a few cheap shots. He gave
a nod to Dana who was just exiting the pod, her shaken, gaunt look actually portraying her readiness
quite well. The gravity of the situation had hit her hard, but she kept on regardless. Once more, Zero

Explain Whether Further Actions Should Be Taken To Achieve...
The question of whether further actions should be taken to achieve true equality between men and
women is an incredibly controversial topic. Some people, known as feminists, believe that women
need to be equal to men. These feminists will stop at nothing to obtain equality to men. They concoct
up marches, riots, and many other protests to achieve this goal of total equality. They tend to have a
modernist view on the world. In the early 1920s, some women decided that they were tired of their
traditional role in the house, so they decided to make a change. They wanted the right to vote, to equal
pay and to equal job opportunities. Overtime, with hard work and dedication women received these
rights that they deserve. Even though women received

Real Estate Law Research Paper
In term of Real Estate Law, the law recognizes two classifications of property which are real and
personal. Real property relates to land and those things that are more or less permanently attached to
the land, such as homes, office buildings, and trees. Personal property refers to all other things, such
as automobiles, furniture, computers, bank accounts, stocks, and bonds. Real property includes rights
to the airspace above the surface of the property, mineral rights to minerals located beneath the
surface, and water rights for water located on or beneath the surface of the land. A fixture is an article

happening or non happening of an event that is stated in the deed of conveyance or the will creating
the estate. A life estate is an estate the duration of which is measured by the life or lives of one or more
persons. An estate for life may be for either the life of the owner or the life of some other person or

Great Inventors Changed our World
1.Eli Whitney was born in Westborough, Massachusetts in 1765. As a child he had a talent for
machinery, he worked as a blacksmith, invented a nail making machine, he then attended Yale college
and graduated with a degree in engineering. Eli Whitney is an American inventor who is best known
for his invention of the cotton gin as it was one of the most influential inventions during the Industrial
Revolution shaping the economy of the Antebellum North and South. The invention of the Cotton gin
made cotton into one of the most profitable crop, which it reinforced the economic foundation of
slavery in the United States. After his invention, he later turned his attention into manufacturing
muskets for the newly formed Army of the United States in where this time he made sure to secured
contracts with the government. Eli Whitney continued inventing and manufacturing arms until his
death in 1825.
2.Robert Fulton is an American inventor, an artist and an engineer. He was born on November 14,
1765 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Fulton started designing steam powered ships by as early as 1793.
He invented the first commercially successful steamboat, he also managed to design a system of
inland waterways, created the first submarine in history as well as a steam warship including
numerous of the world s earliest naval torpedoes that were used in the British Naval. He designed
ships for both the French Navy and the British Navy.

Central American Gangs
The topic I chose to write about is Central American Gangs. Most of these gangs or problems that we
face with these gangs come from the Northern Triangle. The Northern Triangle is made up of three
countries, El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras. Guatemala and Honduras currently being the most
dangerous out of the three. Many Countries have tried to intervene or help these countries but attempts
have proven to be of little use or no help.
The U.S. involvement with these countries began in 1951. Jacobo Árbenz was a military officer who
used his military forces to suppress laborers and take what he wanted. Hearing about this the current
U.S. President Eisenhower sent weapons to guerrilla groups in order to help over throw Árbenz. Fast
forward a few years and the Cuban revolution happens and results in Cuba becoming a communist
government. Around this time many of the guerrilla groups started disappearing but still remained
intact. Most people who have an opinion on the matter agree that supplying arms and providing aid to
these extremist groups was the starting point to forming the current gangs in Central America. We
made policy decisions that put short term prioritization of winning battles against insurgents and
people we considered communists over the long term stability of those countries, they are now living
the results. (Katel p.7). This quote sums up the idea the U.S had with their

Charlemagne Essay examples
What makes ‘a king into ‘the king and then onto Emperor and Augustus? What made King Charles,
Charles the Great? In Einhard s Life of Charlemagne, a very succinct description of King Charles
ideals, beliefs, attitudes and traits are depicted along with his life s territorial as well as mental
conquests illustrated. Charlemagne was a man with a vision of a utopian society united under
Christianity in its glorious form in an almost Camelot like kingdom. Einhard s literary work gives
society an insight into King Charles and what made him capable of being Augustus. As indicated by
Einhard, Charlemagne was a man of all talents but few beliefs and traits truly molded him.

In addition, Charlemagne was a man devoted to his beliefs who was essentially kind, friendly, very
patriotic and, also, trying to be known for his acts and create a good reputation for himself. Over the
course of his life Charlemagne was able to create great ties with fellow leaders around the world and
through various empires, and although he was also trying to aid Christians who needed help in foreign
lands, he seemed to have this need to have good relations with everyone. According to Einhard, he had
great friendships all around the world and always welcomed foreigners in his kingdom and palace for
only one simple thing in return. For he felt that he would be rewarded for his troubles if they
[foreigners] praised his generosity and gave him a good reputation (Einhard 2004, 212). He was a
great king who wanted to go down in history. As per Einhard, that seems to be Charlemagne s only
selfish trait. He apparently only wore the national dress of the Frankish with few exceptions, which
can only imply his great patriotism. Although he appreciated foreign customs, he seems to be very
patriotic towards the Franks. Overall, Charlemagne embodied traits that came together to form this
great Emperor who was admired by many.
In The Life of Charlemagne one notices that Frankish society must have formulated certain
characteristics through the reign of King Charles. Through the king s beliefs a society forms to follow

Summary Of Sully And The Imitation Game
Intro
Even though Sully and The Imitation Game are set more than 50 years apart, they both examine the
phenomenon of surviving against all odds, and the fascination the public has with any such hero. Both
Eastwood and Tyldum develop this theme in presenting their characters as national heroes. Eastwood s
story of protagonist Chesley Sully Sullenberger depicts how ex army now commercial pilot Sully
ditches a plane in the Hudson river as an emergency landing, saving the entire crew and passengers.
The essence of this story is that not only is Sully cast as an instant national hero, but ironically is
revealed behind the scenes as somewhat of a rogue and accused of endangering lives. The fascination
of a hero, is not always shared by others. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Yet, Eastwood and Tyldum differ in their interpretation of what makes a national hero. Eastwood
initially represents Sully as a symbol of the average American male, through a range of establishing
camera angles, which perpetuates Sully as a calm mannered and methodical pilot. Tyldum s use of
shadows and lighting accentuates a half lit face of Alan Turing in a police interrogation room, making
him appear helpless and troubled. Furthermore, this half lit lighting of his face symbolises that there is
another side to Alan, where he is a prisoner inside himself, and now his sexuality, later revealed to the
police. Sully is constructed as a reserved man who believes that I am not a hero , his actions later
dubbed the miracle of the Hudson . Unlike Eastwood, Tyldum s narrator is identifiable only through
thought and action. While the text is primarily first person showing the accomplishments and setbacks
of Alan Turing faces and his team, it frameshifted forward after the war and backwards to his
childhood. The narrator Alan Turing occasionally shifted to 2nd person talking directly to the audience
affording an insight into his motivations and concerns. The narrator shares his dissatisfaction in his
monotonous existence shown by are you paying attention... I will not pause and repeat myself,

Ethical Dilemmas In Canada During The Second World War
Canada is known around the world as a peace keeping country, but has it always been that way?
During the world wars, Canada made a number of unethical decisions in war that effected Canadians.
Firstly, Canada made unethical decisions during World War One, by declaring war, using conscription
and passing the War Measures Act. Canada also made unethical decisions during World War Two, like
declaring war for a second time, having Japanese internment camps and participating in the disaster at
Dieppe. Canada making unethical decisions in war shows both continuity and significant. Therefore,
Canada s role during the two world wars has been unethical, but shows continuity and significance
throughout the 20th century.

Firstly, Canada deciding to be involved with Dieppe was unethical, but it helped Canadian troops see
how advanced Germany is on this coast which later helped Canada defeat Germany in D Day .
Without participating in Dieppe we wouldn t have been successful in D Day. Secondly, Japanese
internment camps were unethical. The Prime Minister Brian Mulroney formally apologized in the
House of Commons for taking the houses of Japanese descent people, I know that I speak for
Members on all sides of the House today in offering to Japanese Canadians the formal and sincere
apology of this Parliament for those past injustices against them, against their families, and against
their heritage, and our solemn commitment and undertaking to Canadians of every origin that such
violations will never again in this country be countenanced or repeated. This demonstrates that the
government is understanding that they were wrong, so we can move on and become a more diverse
and welcoming country. Lastly, declaring war twice was unethical, but Canada learned from their
mistakes. In 1956, the Suez crisis started. The Suez Canal is located near Egypt and was used as a
faster way to transport goods to European countries, especially oil. The Egyptian president seized
control of the canal which scared countries like the United States, which used the canal as a vital part
of transportation, therefore starting conflict . The Canadian Prime Minister, Lester B. Pearson, decided
instead of going in to the conflict they would go to the canal as peace keepers . This is significant
because it shows Canada doesn t have to declare war to be successful, and started Canada as a peace
keeper country. Therefore, Canada s unethical decisions throughout World War One was very
significant because it helps us learn from our

College Athletes Get Paid Research
Research from College athletics programs make a lot of money, send little to academics the University
of Texas at Austin brings in a average of 184 million dollars each year through athletics. The question
that floats everyone s mind is why are the athletes not getting paid . Some believe paying them will no
longer show value of the game. However others believe they should be paid because they dedicate
their lives to the sport. The NCAA must recognize the benefits of compensating college athletics

Furthermore, to measure the toll that incubation takes on a male, Masonjones built a tiny respirator
that records oxygen concentrations in water flowing into and out of a chamber. Before a male took on
eggs, she checked his baseline need for oxygen. Then, she monitored the increase as the incubation
progressed. The male s body had to work hard by the end of incubation, consuming almost a third
again as much oxygen as he did before mating. To correct for oxygen used by the growing brood,
Masonjones managed to keep ¼ inch high premature seahorses alive outside the pouch so she could
measure their oxygen needs. Although they undergo weeks of incubation, males directly contribute
only half as much energy for offspring as females do. [5]Therefore, they do in fact fit into the
widespread pattern of the less invested sex being the less choosy. {text:bookmark start}

Decolonization And The Decolonization Of The 20th Century
Decolonization is the undoing of colonialism, where a nation establishes and maintains its domination
over dependent territories. The word Decolonization has been defined variously. The Oxford English
Dictionary defines decolonization as the withdrawal from its colonies of a colonial power; the
acquisition of political or economic independence by such colonies (Wiki.). The term refers
particularly to the dismantlement, in the years after World War II, of the colonial empires established
prior to World War I throughout the world. However, decolonization not only refers to the complete
removal of the domination of non indigenous forces within the geographical space and different
institutions of the colonized, but it also refers to the decolonizing ... Show more content on

Compare and contrast Mr. Birling and Sheila Birling Essay
Compare and contrast the characters of Mr. Birling and Sheila Birling in their attitudes to social
issues. In the play An Inspector Calls by J.B. Priestly, Mr. Birling and Sheila Birling have contrasting
attitudes to social issues. The author uses this difference to highlight the diversity between generations
and their reactions to situations faced. Arthur Birling is the father to Sheila Birling and so is presented
as the older, old fashioned generation whereas Shelia is the younger generation, who is more aware of
the responsibilities they have towards other people. (?) The play begins with Mr. Birling and his
family celebrating the engagement of Sheila to Gerald. The atmosphere is happy and light hearted.

Almost the first thing Mr. Birling says to the Inspector is said to make an impression. He says, I was
an alderman for years and Lord Mayor two years ago and I m still on the Bench so I know the
Brumley police officers pretty well... His tone of voice is boastful as if emphasising to the Inspector
how important he is. His first intention is to make a good impression, rather than finding out why the
Inspector has called. When he does ask why the Inspector has called, he becomes slightly impatient
when the Inspector doesn t fully answer his question. He clearly feels he is more important than the
Inspector. He then says, Look there s nothing mysterious or scandalous about this business at least not
so far as I m concerned. This sentence doesn t flow which emphasises Mr. Birling s impatience. It also
highlights Mr. Birling s selfishness and attitude towards other because he is only thinking of himself.
He is immediately dismissing responsibility and his irritation is only to cover up his worry and
embarrassment. Sheila s reaction to the Inspector is almost opposite to that of her father s reaction.
Sheila is not worried about making an impression and almost immediately asks, What s this all about?
When she hears about Eva Smith s fate, she reacts to it unlike her father who said, Yes, yes. Horrid
business , which yet again emphasises his impatience by the lack of reaction. Sheila asks the Inspector

The Reality Of Television Programs
Today s television programs are very different from the television programs that were shown over fifty
years ago. The shows in the past portrayed a modest conservative family. These families consist of a
hardworking man and a stay at home woman, married raising their own biological children. As the
years went by, television has started to portray a more liberal definition of what a family means in
today s world. Because of today s TV shows, there are different ideas about what a family should look
like.
Families on TV are not always a married couple containing one man and one woman raising their own
children. We now have many shows that support gay rights when it comes to marriage and being
parents. The hit comedy Modern Family has the funny loveable characters of Mitchell and Cameron.
They adopted a baby girl from Vietnam. The series also shows the wedding between the two men, as
well as the comical outcomes when they try to raise their daughter the best way possible. As Greg
Graffin wrote in his article Anarchy in the Tenth Grade It is also a shining example of how easy it is to
follow the party line and champion a bandwagon mentality which only motivates me to keep fighting
for originality. (3) This is seen on the show The Fosters , a girl named Callie is placed in a foster home
with a lesbian couple and their other adopted children. On this show the couple showed more love and
support than the previous foster homes she was placed in, that consisted of the usual

Shakespeare s Day Analysis
Shakespeare s time has many differences including the profit you get when you write a play. As well
as how you are valued if you are an actor, the role women play when it s being decided who they re
going to marry, and their knowledge of history.
In the modern age, screen writers are millionaires and billionaires because of the movies they write. In
Shakespeare s day, many play writers die penniless and broke. In the article Actors of Shakespeare s
Day by Stephanie Chidester, it says that another play writer named Robert Greene died broke, because
he only wrote plays. Shakespeare wasn t only a play writer; he was also an actor. Chidester says that

However, if a Noble play fanatic wanted a certain actor not to be arrested, then they would be able to

different from today, where actors don t get arrested for being an actor. They do get arrested however
for stupid things such as drugs. But today, often actors need to be protected by the police from rabid
fans who are desperate to meet their favorite actor. They also need to be protected from paparazzi
more often than not. Huge difference from Shakespeare s day.
Many marriages were arranged in Shakespeare s day. Woman got no say in who they were to be
married to. Marriage was usually arranged by the father and the girl s future husband. Today, most
men don t ask the father or the mother if they can propose; most of the time they just ask the girl.
Unlike in Shakespeare s day, woman can reject the man s offer, they have the most say when someone
proposes.
During Shakespeare s day, there was a certain slant in the history books, that appeared in Shakespeare

says Utah Shakespeare Company. Today, our history books are more accurate. As well as larger, as we

Differential Diagnoses And Physical Examination
Differential Diagnoses and Physical Examination
Differential diagnoses for the case study presented above include scarlet fever, measles, roseola, and
Kawasaki disease (KD) (Glass, 2014). Scarlet fever presents within one to two days of the onset of
symptoms from a group A streptococcal infection (Friedman, Scholes Yoon, 2014). The rash
associated with scarlet fever is diffuse, fine, erythematous, and blanches with pressure (Friedman et
al., 2014). A strawberry appearing tongue is also associated with scarlet fever (Friedman et al., 2014).
Measles is associated with lethargy, high fevers, Koplik spots, and a maculopapular rash that spreads
from the face and trunk to the extremities (Levin, 2014). Typically, the fevers will resolve within two
to three days after the rash appears (Levin, 2014). Roseola is characterized by drowsiness, high fevers,
febrile seizures, irritability, otitis media, mild diarrhea, and respiratory distress (Glass, 2014).
Kawasaki disease is associated with fevers that persist for at least five days, non exudative
conjunctivitis, lesions or inflammation in the oral cavity, cervical lymphadenopathy, polymorphous
exanthema, and extremity changes (Darst, Collins, Miyamoto, 2014). Diagnostic criteria require fever

Charlemagne Or Charles The Great
Charlemagne or Charles the Great, (747 814) was one of the most significant people during the
Middle Ages, playing a key role in defining the shape and character of Medieval Europe. Considered
the Father of Europe , Charlemagne reigned as King of the Franks (768 814) and became the first
Holy Roman Emperor (800 814). He created a great empire as he dramatically expanded the Frankish
Kingdom in a series of conquests that united most of Western Europe for the first time since the
Roman Empire. He also introduced many governmental, cultural and economic reforms to further his
great Carolingian Empire. Additionally the Emperor fostered the Carolingian renaissance, a time of
great cultural and intellectual revival and reinforced the Christian foothold on Europe.
Charlemagne s role in Medieval Europe was as a complete leader and emperor, one that effectively
managed every aspect of his empire. As King of the Franks, Charlemagne played the role of a warrior
king, constantly engaged in warfare and through his conquests he no longer ruled a Kingdom but a
veritable empire. When the fall of the Roman Empire led to its dissolution in Western Europe, it
caused a fragmented collection of Kingdoms. As Charlemagne united these fragments he needed to
reconstruct the structures of a complex society and maintain unity within his realm, which was
complicated by the differences between his people. Due to this, Charlemagne s role was as an
effective administrator, and he instituted many

Climate Change Is The Single Greatest Threat Facing Our...
[Abstract: Climate change is the single greatest threat facing our planet. Senator Bernie Sanders,
Democratic Party nomination seekers in the US presidential election 2016, repeatedly urges in his
campaign: climate change is real, it is caused by human activity, and it is already causing devastating
harm here in the United States and to people all around the world. Nonetheless but humans are liable
to climate change, and are also affected by it with others. This article will focus on our collective and

The United States, the wealthiest country in the world, contributes far more than its share of
greenhouse gases. It is now clear that these emissions have caused serious risks to the world as a
whole, particularly the poorest nations. In response to the question Does an US individual has a moral
obligation to impose reasonable curbs on its future greenhouse gas emissions? Armstrong and Johnson
have advanced a novel and sophisticated argument for the right of individuals to remain stable in their
personal emissions. We believe that the general shape of their position is attractive since it (i) grants
the individual the right to emit without suggesting that any and all restrictions are permissible; (ii)
distinguishes between the relative strength of collective moral

In the western world the terms president, and prime minister means, for lack of a better term, the head
of a country, the difference is that between Canada and the United States they have one or the other.
Back in the Eastern world of Western Europe, France was the first major European country to adopt a
semi presidential system giving them both a prime minister and a president to oversee it all (Allen et
al. 109). This is accomplished by giving the president the power of political figure head for the

Flexibility of Management in Accounting Policy: Receivables are recognised and carried at original
invoice amount less a provision for any uncollectible debts. They make an estimate for doubtful debts
when collection of the full amount is no longer probable. The estimation of provision of doubtful debt
relative to receivable is regularly reviewed. Bad debts are written off as incurred. As can be seen, it is
a bit risky approach for the company not to assign provision of bad debts according to the percentage
of credit sales. It is to be noted here that the days of receivable decreased from 2002 to 2003, almost
halved. 2002 2003
Days Receivables [(Debtors / Operating Revenue)*365] 41.601 21.868
Quality of Disclosure: From the annual report it is not clear about the disclosure as such but it is to be
observed that the provision for doubtful debt has come up 34.1 m to 30.7 m, from 2002 to 2003.
2.3 PROPERTY, PLANT AND EQUIPMENT
The computation of Property, Plant and Equipment is very important part because it determines the
entity s financial well being to a great extent. They are the major portion of the total assets of an entity.

Congenital Erythropoeitic Porphyria ( Cep )
The UROS Gene
Congenital Erythropoeitic Porphyria
Zachary T. Hall
BIOL 301 005
October 23, 2014 Introduction Congenital Erythropoeitic Porphyria (CEP), originally called
congenital hepatoporphyria (also known as Gunther s Disease), is the rarest form of a group of
uniquely distinct autosomally inherited disorders first classified and discovered by German physician
Hans Gunther in the first decade of the twentieth century. Due to its relatively new discovery and
rarity, CEP does not have a lengthy history. However, the disease has been historically associated with
clinical manifestations including extreme cutaneous photosensitivity, osteopenia, scarring, blistering,
corneal ulceration, red urinal discoloration, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
URO synthase is an enzyme involved in the metabolism of the tetrapyrrole compound porphyrin,
which composes heme. Heme performs a variety of biological functions but is most commonly known
for being a component of hemoglobin, helping it to provide oxygen to tissues throughout the body.
Specifically, URO synthase functions to convert a linear chain of four porphobilinogen molecules,
hydroxymethylbilane (HMB), into the first metabolic intermediate in the biosynthesis of heme, the
cyclic tetrapyrrole uroporphyrinogen III [3, 4]. This conversion of hydroxymethylbilane by URO
synthase into uroporphyrinogen III (URO III) is necessary to facilitate the continuation of the pathway
and the successful production of heme. URO synthase performs this function primarily within the
mitochondria and cytoplasm of erythrocyte precursor cells in bone marrow, although the liver also
functions to produce heme by the same biosynthetic pathway [5]. CEP has been linked to a variety of
loss of function mutations on the UROS gene including missense, nonsense, splice site and small
intragenic deletions. However the majority of these mutations occur so rarely that the most common
pathogenic mutations are considered to be missense mutations, specifically a C to T change at
nucleotide 197, substituting an alanine for valine at residue 66 (A66V) and a T to C change at
nucleotide 217, substituting a cysteine to arginine

Review of Hardball by Chris Matthews Essay
Review of Hardball by Chris Matthews
Before I started reading the book Hardball, by Chris Matthews, I had a preconceived idea of what the
content of this book would be. From the title of the book I drew the conclusion that Matthews would
write more about the darker side of politics and how it is really played. I don t really know much about
politics, and frankly, I don t care much for politics. However, when I hear the word hardball in the
context of politics, I think of blood shed. I think of dirty tricks and blackmail and money changing
hands in dark places. I even think of the mafia to some degree when I hear the word hardball. Perhaps
my notion of hardball was a bit more than what Chris Matthews describes in his book. After ... Show

The content of this book is best described on page 17 where Matthews describes speaking to a
congressman in the Democratic cloakroom about writing the book. Quietly, I confided to one of the
members that I was writing a book about the rules of politics, including all the tricks I had overheard
in the off the record hideaways like this. He look at me, a crease of pain crossing his forehead, and
said with dead seriousness, Why do you want to go and give them away? By describing the concern of
this individual, Matthews conveys to the reader that he s actually going to give detailed accounts of
how politicians operate in Washington. The congressman is concerned about what the public would
think if they had detailed knowledge of how politicians operate, and that s actually the most
compelling reason for reading this book.
Matthews relates a myriad of examples of how some of today s most successful politicians rose to the
top. The successful politicians are those who learned how to play hardball. They learnt that there were
other people besides themselves on the playing field and that when you throw ball in the game of
politics, someone is going to be on the other side to catch it and throw it back, and you must be ready
for it. This is perhaps most evident in the section of the book called Enemies, where Matthews
describes the rule of power: Keep your enemies in front of you, as President Reagan did by appointing
James A. Baker his first White

A Developed Country As The Most Socially Progressive States
Also, I would prefer to focus on a developed country as the most socially progressive states have the
most influence in the global market and are often compared with the United States. Ireland, an island
of 27000 square miles and a population of 4.6 million is ranked 6th in HDI as of 2014, proves to have
a high degree of development, on par with Germany and ahead of the US (at 8th). This is reflected in
Ireland s healthy social progress and economic efficiency. The GDP per capita is ~$45,000 with only
~5% of the country s population below the poverty line compared to 15% for the US. Ireland is also
also a very peaceful country and ranked 11th for income equality with a 34.3 GINI (2013).
Throughout the history of Ireland, the country and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Widespread trade commenced in the period starting in 2500 BC to 400 AD with the population
consisting of various different rival groups, called the Celts, who shared a polytheistic, pagan religion.
This religion influenced stories and mythology surrounding the ancient monuments and their use.
Shortly after the year 400, St. Patrick brought Christianity to Ireland, which remained the dominant
religion while many Celtic traditions were retained. During this period, a change in religion and the
fall of the nearby Roman Empire, Ireland enjoyed prosperity, but was invaded by the Vikings. They
plundered some of the newfound riches and treasures but also established Dublin and many other
important cities, such as Wexford, Waterford, Cork, and Limerick. This control by the vikings ended
around 1200 when the Normans (from modern day France) invaded and conquered England and
Ireland, establishing a lordship which began the next several hundred years of British rule. By 1600
much of this dependency was in the form of plantations controlled by Britain, and in 1641 a rebellion
was staged by the protestant colonists. Similar conflict continued into the 1700s, and hundreds of
thousands of people died during the first major famine of Ireland in 1740. A second uprising took
place in 1798, shortly after which Ireland was formally joined with

Therefore, the axon outgrowth pattering is altering. Previous study reported that the extracellular guidance cues, including UNC 6/Netrin and its receptor have role in determining the axon outgrowth ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Using the probability distribution, we compared the probabilities in wild type and mutants. For example, UNC 6/Netrin extracellular guidance cues can decreases or increase the probability of UNC 40 activity at each side of the neuron. Thus, this probability is directed as a stochastic process. In more evidence, the probability of axon outgrowth activity in ventral direction is decreased, whereas the probability of axon outgrowth in other directions is increased in mutants (Xu et al., 2009; Kulkarni et al, 2013; Yang et al., 2014; Tang and Wadsworth, 2014). Therefore, the guidance cues control the direction of movement fluctuates over time. We report that this probabilities can cause different regions of the neurons plasma membrane to move in different directions. Thus the axon outgrowth extension morphology is abnormal and cause new axon outgrowth patterning. Genetic evidence indicates that UNC 40/DCC, a central regulator of polarization in multicellular animals (Ziel and Sherwood, 2010), mediates several signals that regulates the polarization and orientation in response to UNC 6/Netrin. UNC 40::GFP clusters randomly along the cell surface in response to polarization signal whereas the orientation signal causes the UNC 40::GFP cluster toward specific direction (Xu et al., 2009; Kulkarni et al., 2013; Tang and Wadsworth, 2014). However, the West can accept that the home they seek may not exist anymore and imagine a future without it whereas the East can see no acceptable alternative. We can see this when we compare Salman Rushdie s At The Auction of the Ruby Slippers (ATARS) to his The Prophet s Hair. The West is trying to reclaim the home they have lost and the East is trying to stop the home they have from slipping away. Both stories contain portraits of a better past. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Gale the narrator loves is not the real Gale, who he recently saw at the bar, but his idea of what their home would be if they had stayed together. He realizes this. In The Prophet s Hair, the instinct of the family is to piece their home back together, not to move away from the destructive force of Hashim and The Prophet s Hair. An alternative to family is never considered because the East cannot see a future without home. This seems like a trite observation, because it is likely that there is a reason they never considered leaving a cultural reason. Perhaps it was unthinkable in their society for a family to desert its male leader, but this is exactly the point. They never consider an alternative because of the context of the culture. The fact that the narrator of ATARS can see that his home may no longer exist, gives him the perspective to see an alternative, that the East cannot. The reason that the East cannot see the alternatives to its home that the West can is because that alternative is based on two ideas central to Western culture: freedom and the free market. ATARS ends with the narrator feeling a reduction in weight , a floating (102). • 6. Slavery Argument Against Slavery Slavery, though it was an inexcusable, helped shape the nation that we live in today. In the last few weeks, I have become much more knowledgeable on the topic of slavery. People on both sides of the slavery argument (pro slavery and anti slavery) earnestly believed in what they stood for. The resistance to the end of slavery was likely out of fear, but some of the proslavery arguments were completely ridiculous. John C. Calhoun once noted that slavery was necessary to keep the United States from having internal conflicts. He believed that it was the free blacks that caused the social disturbances in the North. Numerous southern slave owners held this same view, in fact, many were convinced that the South was exempt from these disturbances because many of the African Americans were slaves and had no means to cause these public disturbances. For these Southerners, slavery was not just a practice, but a way of life. They feared what would happen if slavery was to be abolished. This is proven because, years before the civil war was even a thought, the South was already starting to get defensive about the question of slavery. Even though the practice of slavery was a big part of how Southerners lived their daily lives, Calhoun s argument of why slavery was a necessary good lacked foundation. Therefore, one difference of opinion and thousands of lives of slaves is what Holton argues is another main reason for the cause of the American Revolution. The second part of the book focusses on the boycotts that the Virginians inaugurated in order to receive what they wanted from Great Britain. Holton argues that these boycotts are also a huge part of what started the American Revolution. The American colonist established the nonimportation association in order to pressure Parliament to repeal laws that endangered their civil liberties (78). The importance of these boycotts is evident in history because they played a huge role in the starting of the American Revolution because not only did these boycotts help start the revolution, but they also ended it. Without these boycotts and without the colonist pushing to have their way there would have never been any change. • 10. Vertical Collaboration Vs Vertical Coordination According to Reframing Organizations the benefits of a formal structure helps a company to not waste time and money especially on training products in an effort to solve problems that deal with social architecture instead of people. Structure, basically a blueprint for internal management/ employees and external constituencies like clients and competitors to follow. It has been said that structural form enhances and constrains what an organization can accomplish. Originations that are successful incorporate a variety of methods to coordinate individual and group efforts and to link local initiatives to worldwide goals. They accomplish this by using both vertical and lateral coordination, they both support growth in the organization. Vertical coordination is more through the chains of command. The essence of this story is that not only is Sully cast as an instant national hero, but ironically is revealed behind the scenes as somewhat of a rogue and accused of endangering lives. Eastwood initially represents Sully as a symbol of the average American male, through a range of establishing camera angles, which perpetuates Sully as a calm mannered and methodical pilot. Tyldum s use of shadows and lighting accentuates a half lit face of Alan Turing in a police interrogation room, making him appear helpless and troubled. Furthermore, this half lit lighting of his face symbolises that there is another side to Alan, where he is a prisoner inside himself, and now his sexuality, later revealed to the police. Sully is constructed as a reserved man who believes that I am not a hero , his actions later dubbed the miracle of the Hudson . Unlike Eastwood, Tyldum s narrator is identifiable only through thought and action. While the text is primarily first person showing the accomplishments and setbacks of Alan Turing faces and his team, it frameshifted forward after the war and backwards to his childhood. The narrator Alan Turing occasionally shifted to 2nd person talking directly to the audience affording an insight into his motivations and concerns. • 22. Ethical Dilemmas In Canada During The Second World War Canada is known around the world as a peace keeping country, but has it always been that way? During the world wars, Canada made a number of unethical decisions in war that effected Canadians. Firstly, Canada made unethical decisions during World War One, by declaring war, using conscription and passing the War Measures Act. Canada also made unethical decisions during World War Two, like declaring war for a second time, having Japanese internment camps and participating in the disaster at Dieppe. Canada making unethical decisions in war shows both continuity and significant. Therefore, Canada s role during the two world wars has been unethical, but shows continuity and significance throughout the 20th century. Canada during World War One ... Firstly, Canada deciding to be involved with Dieppe was unethical, but it helped Canadian troops see how advanced Germany is on this coast which later helped Canada defeat Germany in D Day . Without participating in Dieppe we wouldn t have been successful in D Day. Secondly, Japanese internment camps were unethical. The Prime Minister Brian Mulroney formally apologized in the House of Commons for taking the houses of Japanese descent people, I know that I speak for Members on all sides of the House today in offering to Japanese Canadians the formal and sincere apology of this Parliament for those past injustices against them, against their families, and against their heritage, and our solemn commitment and undertaking to Canadians of every origin that such violations will never again in this country be countenanced or repeated. This demonstrates that the government is understanding that they were wrong, so we can move on and become a more diverse and welcoming country. Lastly, declaring war twice was unethical, but Canada learned from their mistakes. In 1956, the Suez crisis started. The Suez Canal is located near Egypt and was used as a faster way to transport goods to European countries, especially oil. The Egyptian president seized control of the canal which scared countries like the United States, which used the canal as a vital part of transportation, therefore starting conflict . The Canadian Prime Minister, Lester B. Pearson, decided instead of going in to the conflict they would go to the canal as peace keepers . This is significant because it shows Canada doesn t have to declare war to be successful, and started Canada as a peace keeper country. The male s body had to work hard by the end of incubation, consuming almost a third again as much oxygen as he did before mating. To correct for oxygen used by the growing brood, Masonjones managed to keep ¼ inch high premature seahorses alive outside the pouch so she could measure their oxygen needs. Heme performs a variety of biological functions but is most commonly known for being a component of hemoglobin, helping it to provide oxygen to tissues throughout the body. Specifically, URO synthase functions to convert a linear chain of four porphobilinogen molecules, hydroxymethylbilane (HMB), into the first metabolic intermediate in the biosynthesis of heme, the cyclic tetrapyrrole uroporphyrinogen III [3, 4]. This conversion of hydroxymethylbilane by URO synthase into uroporphyrinogen III (URO III) is necessary to facilitate the continuation of the pathway and the successful production of heme. URO synthase performs this function primarily within the mitochondria and cytoplasm of erythrocyte precursor cells in bone marrow, although the liver also functions to produce heme by the same biosynthetic pathway [5]. CEP has been linked to a variety of loss of function mutations on the UROS gene including missense, nonsense, splice site and small intragenic deletions. However the majority of these mutations occur so rarely that the most common pathogenic mutations are considered to be missense mutations, specifically a C to T change at nucleotide 197, substituting an alanine for valine at residue 66 (A66V) and a T to C change at nucleotide 217, substituting a cysteine to arginine ... • 42. Review of Hardball by Chris Matthews Essay Review of Hardball by Chris Matthews Before I started reading the book Hardball, by Chris Matthews, I had a preconceived idea of what the content of this book would be. From the title of the book I drew the conclusion that Matthews would write more about the darker side of politics and how it is really played. I don t really know much about politics, and frankly, I don t care much for politics. However, when I hear the word hardball in the context of politics, I think of blood shed. I think of dirty tricks and blackmail and money changing hands in dark places. I even think of the mafia to some degree when I hear the word hardball. Perhaps my notion of hardball was a bit more than what Chris Matthews describes in his book. After ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The content of this book is best described on page 17 where Matthews describes speaking to a congressman in the Democratic cloakroom about writing the book. Quietly, I confided to one of the members that I was writing a book about the rules of politics, including all the tricks I had overheard in the off the record hideaways like this. He look at me, a crease of pain crossing his forehead, and said with dead seriousness, Why do you want to go and give them away? By describing the concern of this individual, Matthews conveys to the reader that he s actually going to give detailed accounts of how politicians operate in Washington. The congressman is concerned about what the public would think if they had detailed knowledge of how politicians operate, and that s actually the most compelling reason for reading this book. Matthews relates a myriad of examples of how some of today s most successful politicians rose to the top. The successful politicians are those who learned how to play hardball. They learnt that there were other people besides themselves on the playing field and that when you throw ball in the game of politics, someone is going to be on the other side to catch it and throw it back, and you must be ready for it. This is perhaps most evident in the section of the book called Enemies, where Matthews describes the rule of power: Keep your enemies in front of you, as President Reagan did by appointing James A. Baker his first White ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. A Developed Country As The Most Socially Progressive States Also, I would prefer to focus on a developed country as the most socially progressive states have the most influence in the global market and are often compared with the United States. Ireland, an island of 27000 square miles and a population of 4.6 million is ranked 6th in HDI as of 2014, proves to have a high degree of development, on par with Germany and ahead of the US (at 8th). This is reflected in Ireland s healthy social progress and economic efficiency. The GDP per capita is ~$45,000 with only ~5% of the country s population below the poverty line compared to 15% for the US. Ireland is also also a very peaceful country and ranked 11th for income equality with a 34.3 GINI (2013). Throughout the history of Ireland, the country and ... Widespread trade commenced in the period starting in 2500 BC to 400 AD with the population consisting of various different rival groups, called the Celts, who shared a polytheistic, pagan religion. This religion influenced stories and mythology surrounding the ancient monuments and their use. Shortly after the year 400, St. Patrick brought Christianity to Ireland, which remained the dominant religion while many Celtic traditions were retained. During this period, a change in religion and the fall of the nearby Roman Empire, Ireland enjoyed prosperity, but was invaded by the Vikings. They plundered some of the newfound riches and treasures but also established Dublin and many other important cities, such as Wexford, Waterford, Cork, and Limerick. This control by the vikings ended around 1200 when the Normans (from modern day France) invaded and conquered England and Ireland, establishing a lordship which began the next several hundred years of British rule. By 1600 much of this dependency was in the form of plantations controlled by Britain, and in 1641 a rebellion was staged by the protestant colonists. Similar conflict continued into the 1700s, and hundreds of thousands of people died during the first major famine of Ireland in 1740. A second uprising took place in 1798, shortly after which Ireland was formally joined with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
