As two prominent heroes of the 18th century, Benjamin Franklin and Jonathan
Edwards mastered the art of religious theology and the sciences. Although their
uprisings differed, they shared a drive for success and individual approach. Sharing
an interest in similar fields, their ideals of religion and fulfillment became very
different, which helped shape their own future endeavors. I will consider Edwards
and Franklin to be a few of the last Do it all men of the 18th century.
Jonathan Edwards was born on 1703 in East Windsor, Connecticut to a middle class
protestant family. Edwards went to school for ministry after graduating from Yale,

The Golden Rule is an ethical idea shared in various religious texts and different

argues in the fifth Chapter (Moral Disagreement) of his book Cosmopolitanism that
the Golden Rule is not as helpful as it might at first seem , and he gives several

1. What do Jesus Christ and the Christian faith mean to you? How does your faith
affect the way you live?
My faith journey has been a long, gradual process of learning to know and follow
Jesus as I grew up in a local Mennonite church and a Christian family. The transition
of going to college has pushed me the most. Having independence put me in the
situation to make all of my own choices. Do I wake up and go to church? Do I go
to chapel? How do I navigate choices around alcohol use or dating? How does my
faith inform these areas of life? I take the answers to these questions seriously. One
of the areas where I have grown and continue to grow is through the classes I have
taken. My classes have pushed me to consider what I believe and why I accept
certain things as true. My concentration on peace and conflict studies often leads to
meaningful class discussions where I am challenged to connect my faith to politics,
economics, social issues, and conflicts around the world.
I believe that it is important to actively live out a lifestyle that can be seen in Jesus s

Written by Paul Schrader and directed by Martin Scorsese Taxi Driver is a movie
designed around a marine veteran, Travis, who becomes a taxi driver in New
York. He sets off to have a relationship like he sees all over town. However, Travis
is pretty bad about forming relationships even with coworkers which spill into a
relationship he tries to form and utterly fails. Besides being rejected he originally
seems like he is going down the wrong path, but the sequence of events changes and
he becomes a hero . Overall, this movie was created wonderfully and the amazing
acting performance from Robert De Niroas Travis really took this filmto another

The play The Tempest is a rather difficult play to follow in its written format. You
have to carefully keep track of who is talking to have a good understanding of what
is occurring in the play itself. Just like with movies it is easier to understand a play
that is being portrayed by actors on stage because you have the ability to view who
is speaking with visual cues. Comparing the written second scene in Act One of The
Tempest written by William Shakespeare and the movie from 2010 which was
directed by Julie Taymor there are some differences like lines being removed, lines
being shifted, and overall easiness to follow.
During Act One, Scene Two of the play we start out by noticing that one of the
main characters, Prospero, has had a gender swap, which changes the name to

Composer Karlheinz Stockhausen was born August 22, 1928 in the small town of
MГ¶drath located just west of Cologne Germany. He was the first child of three
born to Simon and Gertrud Stockhausen. Early in his life, the Stockhausen family
struggled financially. Germany was in a low point of stability after WWI and most
people had trouble making ends meet. Simon Stockhausen, a teacher at the time, was
forced to move from one temporary post to another on average twice a year.
Unfortunately in 1932 when he was four years old, Stockhausen s mother Gertrud
was committed into a sanatorium. This was likely due to the depression she
