A Comparison Of Alexander Hamilton And Aaron Burr
Over the centuries there has arisen many undisputed geniuses such as Leonardo da Vinci, William
Shakespeare, and Albert Einstein. With the rise of geniuses such as these there are two questions
raised. What is genius? Is genius born or can it be learned? Scholars have gone back and forth and
there is plenty of evidence and countless examples supporting either side. However, there appears to
be a compromise between the two sides in how a genius comes about. To begin, it is common for
many people to laud a skilled person as a genius . In reality, a genius is defined as, extraordinary
intellectual power especially as manifested in creative activity (Meriam). Clearly, a genius who
possesses more than just intellectual superiority; one must ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gates later went on co found Microsoft and create lasting and groundbreaking computer software that
continues to be valuable to society as technology has become common in day to day life.
Undoubtedly, Gate s intellect, passion, and creativity led him to create an extraordinary product and
established him as a modern genius. To begin, genius comes about through passion, creativity, and
natural talent and cannot be born . First, intellect is the obvious foundation for any genius, however, it
involves more than natural intelligence. To illustrate, an individual may have great talent in a certain
subject but lack of practice, imagination and passion will prevent him from being a genius. On the
other hand, one may not have an astounding natural ability nevertheless he practices, has a passion for
this subject and an open imagination; this individual may turn out to be a genius. Thus, intellect is an
aspect of a genius not the only component. Further, passion has long been known to be a powerful
force in humans and it has led to artistic and scientific advances. Passion pushes individuals to not
give up in testing new theories, invention or techniques. Insert example of how passion motivated. To
illustrate, Tesla faced much opposition nonetheless his passion for his work pushed him to overcome
them and to create. Thus, it is passion that sees intellect through to

Forensic Science Essay example
Forensic Science has contributed to our world a great deal. People often misunderstand Forensic
Science and believe it is much more capable than it really is. As a matter of fact what you see on T.V.
is around 80% false or over exaggerated in some way. To Start of, Criminal Investigation is the largest
and most known form of Forensic Science. Some of the more known areas include; Fingerprinting,
Ballistics, DNA Identification, Fiber Samples, Computer Animation, Documentation analysis, etc. To
get this out of the way in the beginning, what you saw on last night s law and order is far from the
truth. Things they do in a matter of hours take months at a time, and most of the time aren t even
plausible concepts. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Computer Animation is another valuable aspect in Forensics. Many People believe that they are
getting virtually framed , and that computer animations are inconclusive. This has been shown to be
wrong and is said to be much more accurate then an actual man reenactment. Computers are able to
precisely pinpoint every single aspect of the reenactment. Some argue that this may Create reality and
not illustrate it, but that s up to the court to decide. An example of how this works was used when a
snowplow struck an Iowa State basketball players car killing him. The plow driver was going 10 miles
over the speed limit. This video was recreated and showed a fatal blow the side of the deceased s car.
Although he was speeding this movie was recreated with the plow going the speed limit and he still
would have been fatally killed. The Iowa student didn t look when pulling out into the intersection if
you re wondering. Also, Forensic Scientists use computer animation to simulate the aging or
appearance change in a criminal or deceased individual. Though this is a great technique, things
cannot always be exactly 100% certain on the reconstruction. A lot of the deciding whether this if
valid, is up too the jury souly. This can even help provide the cause of death in a badly degraded
badly.
Documentation Examination is another very important aspect in Forensic Science.

Short Essay On Seaford Short Story
It was the winter of 1993 and I stand there in sleepy, little seaford huddling inside my school blazer
against the chill of the air waiting for my bus to take me to school. The sound of train wheels
screeching on the tracks drift off in the distance and cigarette smoke engulfs me from a nearby junkie
puffing away. Seaford is a quiet suburb on the mornington peninsula, everyone knows each other and
everything about each other. Small news for most suburbs is big news for seaford because nothing
ever happens in little seaford. My bus drops me off at school, students are rushing to get to there
classes and the usual chatter fills the air. I get to my class and take a seat except I can t help notice that
today there is more buzz flowing through the air from my classmates, i look around and i can see
expressions of fear as well as excitement on their faces. However all i can feel is confusion. What is
everyone talking about? The principle makes an announcement over the speaker most of you are
aware of the recent murders in the frankston seaford area, both these murders were very similar which
is why the police suspect that there is a serial killer targeting young women. All students must not go

Essay about Conflict Resolution
Conflict Resolution
Many people enjoy working or participating in a group or team, but when a group of people work
together chances are that conflicts will occur. Hazleton describes conflict as the discrepancy between
what is the perceived reality and what is seen as ideal (2007). We enter into conflicts reluctantly,
cautiously, angrily, nervously, confidently and emerge from them battered, exhausted, sad, satisfied,
triumphant. And still many of us underestimate or overlook the merits of conflict the opportunity
conflict offers every time it occurs (Schilling, nd.). Conflict does not have to lead to a hostile
environment or to broken relationships. Conflict if resolved effectively can lead to a positive
experience for everyone ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Keeping all these in mind can lead to the best solution to solve the conflict.
Change and Expectations People do not always adjust well to change. Oftentimes when change
occurs, conflict will arise. The new boss on the job or the new member of the team may be the change
that brings a conflict. Expectations if not set clearly and held to standard can also lead to conflict
among the team. Expectations must be set from the beginning. Expectations must also be clear and it
must be verified that each team member understands the expectations. If a short coming on the
expectations occurs, then action must be taken immediately. If no action is taken this could be
understood as silent approval and team members will believe that the expectation is no longer
important or required. When conflict does occur, the five models set out in The Thomas Kilmann
Conflict Mode Instrument sets the standards for resolving the conflict. Avoidance Avoidance is
defined as an act or practice of avoiding or withdrawing from something (Merriam Webster.com).
Avoidance may not be the answer if the conflict directly affects the team or the team s goal. Avoidance
is usually used when the conflict is irrelevant, relationships are at stake, more important issues are
pressing, when one party is more emotionally involved, or when more information is needed
(Culbertson, 2000). In avoidance the parties involved agree to place

Analysis Of Amazon s Amazon Net Revenue
Introduction
Amazon.com was founded by Jeff Bezos in 1994 in his own personal garage. Name after the largest
river in South Africa, the Amazon River, Bezos knew he could create a retail website that would not
have any limitations by first selling books to his consumers online and later diversifying his inventory.
The online website launched on July 16, 1995 and in time, Amazon has become one of the leading
online business retailer in the world. In 2015 Amazon net revenue was 107.01 Billion US dollars, a
major growth from 2013, which was 74.45 billion. (Statista.com). Great marketing strategies
contributed to the success to Amazon s online business by bringing low prices, unlimited inventory,
convenience and fast delivery to their customers. Amazon build relationships with third party sellers
nationally and internationally, which contributes to 40% of their product sales today (AmazonFresh).
The three elements created by Amazon which help contribute to their success: are the fulfillment
centers, Amazon Prime, and AmazonFresh. First offering two day delivery then a later evolving to
same day delivery in select locations, Amazon is slowly working towards surpassing their competitors.
With the raise of customer s orders, many wonder if the company will be able to continue meeting the
demands of same day delivery.
Since the launch of Amazon.com in 1995, Amazon employs 50,000 full time employees with
competitive wages and benefits(Amazon.com). The success worldwide makes Amazon

Executive Summary
This report provides analysis and evaluation of a newly designed wastewater treatment facility for
Sand Valley, Nevada. Analysis will include Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD) along with total,
volatile, and fixed suspended solids. Methods for analysis will include the Winkler Test for BOD and a
Hatch test for the suspend solids.
The report finds BOD levels meet the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES)
permit renewal standards. Results for suspended solids shows an opposite trend. Suspended solids
increase throughout the course of the water treatment. This does not meet NPDES standards. Further
suspended solids test will be needed to insure a minimal amount of error. If the same trend continues,
the facility may need to be redesigned to meet NPDES standards.

American Sniper And The Hurt Locker
American Sniper/The Hurt Locker
War movies have always been an American classic. With cinematography, actors, and exposure a film
can either be a hit, or fall short. The film American Sniper, is based off of the novel by the same name,
reflecting the life of Navy Seal Chris Kyle. Following the release of the novel, Clint Eastwood took
the director s chair and adapted the novel, to the big screen. Although American Sniper became a
worldwide hit, another movie, The Hurt Locker, came years before it. Directed by award winning
Kathryn Bigelow, The Hurt Locker is based on fictionalized characters reflecting the experiences of an
Explosive Ordinance Disposal team. While both films are remarkable in many ways, The Hurt Locker
holds a better representation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With a seemingly reckless leader, a protocol following team mate, and pessimistic, depressed young
man, this trio of actors brings a dynamic on screen that works almost only in chaos. The characters
seem to contradict each other, most notably in the two leaders played by Mackie and Renner. In the
beginning of the film it seems as if the existing team that Renner s character is put into, hate how he s
seemingly uncontrollable and reckless. The three actors bring a true portrayal of being a soldier during
war. Bradley Cooper s portrayal of Chris Kyle in American Sniper won him various awards in 2015.
Cooper even went as far as changing his physical body to better fit Chris Kyle. The movie is solely
based around the one man, as it is from the novel. Although American Sniper received more awards
for the actors, it just doesn t show as much dynamic with more than one main

Interpersonal Conflict In Goblin Market By Christina Rossetti
Often in narrative literature main characters develop over the course of the story line through the
conflicts that they encounter. In the poem, Goblin Market , the author Christina Rossetti, depicts a
story of two sisters with completely opposite morals and opinions. The main characters, Lizzie and
Laura, each sit on opposite sides of what they believe to be socially correct and are different in every
way. Throughout the poem, some characters are forced to adapt and act in ways out of their comfort
zone to provide for the ones which they love. In order to save the life of her sister Lizzie is forced to
take action and spread her wings, thus developing as a character. Through her relationship with Laura,
the internal conflict regarding her morals and the interpersonal conflict with the goblins, Lizzie
evolves from a timid and orderly character, into a heroic and outgoing character. Upon the
commencement of the poem, Rossetti makes it crystal clear to the reader that Lizzie is timid to stretch
beyond her comfort zone and is strict to follow the social standard and what is morally right. Out of
the two girls, Lizzie is the one whom is set in her ways and will not go against what is socially
acceptable. Laura being the opposite of Lizzie becomes curious when she hears the goblins enticing
cries. Lizzie seems to be the voice of reason for Laura, Oh, cried Lizzie, Laura, Laura,
You should not peep at goblin men.
Lizzie cover d up her eyes,
Cover d close lest they should look;
In this quote Lizzie is shown advising Laura that she literally should not look at the goblin men and in
a more figurative sense she is warning Laura that she should not fall for the tricks of the goblins.
Lizzie then follows this warning with covering her own eyes as if this will help to protect her from the
goblins. This quote is a strong demonstration of how timid Lizzie was made out to be at the beginning
of the poem. The character of Lizzie is also made out to be quite orderly as she seems to be keen on
following what is socially correct. In the poem, it is implied that interacting with the goblins is against
what is socially correct and could be interpreted as a sin or something that is frowned upon in today s
day. As

Challenging the Notions of Loyalty in State of War by...
Loyalty and honor are of the highest value in the eyes of the samurai. This is a statement that many
scholars and young educated persons believe to be true on the basis of assumption. Thomas Conlan
challenges this preconceived notion of loyalty and honor in his book State of War by piecing together
a much more difficult and situationally based definition of loyalty which differed depending on the
samurai and by observing how times of war and hardship truly challenged an individual s sense of
honor. Loyalty is a difficult term to define when considering a couple of key factors. First of all,
samurai had more than one aspect in which to be loyal. Samurai had to be loyal in respect to
themselves and their own personal moral code and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Other cases of disloyalty didn t cause quite the ruckus that Fukusuke s supposed disloyalty did. A
samurai named Mori Motoharu changed sides multiple times without consequence. Motoharu started
fighting with loyalty to Ashikaga Takauji, rebelled against Takauji in 1350, only to end up fighting for
him again in 1360. Loyalty to oneself directly deals with doing what one believes is morally correct
versus what one is forced to do when backed into a corner. The decisions between right and wrong
aren t blurred but harder to abide by when in times of war and suffering. Samurai had to make less
than honorable choices such as stealing from temples, travelers, and merchants during rough times.
Integrity of the samurai were also challenged in times of war. Rewards could be granted for losses,
such as losing a horse or a disciple (armor weapons) or getting injured. A samurai could gain status
among his peers by killing a noble warrior and presenting this noble warrior s head in proof of killing
them. Both reward, such as land, money, or compensation, and status were important to samurai, more
so to some than others, and thus challenged their honor and integrity. Many samurai abandoned their
moral to attempt to cheat the system in order to gain. Embellishing a

How successful were Presidents, Roosevelt, Taft and Wilson in addressing America s economic
problems? (24 marks) America in the late 19th and early 20th century was going through tremendous
growth, with mass immigration and the consequent rapid growth of cities and urbanisation,
industrialisation and mass production. Teddy Roosevelt, Taft and Wilson, the 3 main presidents of the
early 20th century are often known for their many achievements both abroad and at home, and
economic problems are one of the many problems that they dealt with during their terms as president.

This shows how Taft might not have been all that successful in attending the economic problems, but
at the same time shows how he may have been passive with the trust busting with the intention of
future stability of the American economy. Taft showed more of his successful and unsuccessfulness
with the passing of the Payne Aldrich Tariff Act. The tariff was passed by Congress in 1909, and it
was the first change in tariff laws since the Dingley Act of 1897. The issue had been blatantly ignored
by Roosevelt during his terms and the Republicans wanted to revise the tariff downward. To do this
Taft called Congress to a special session, and the bill was promptly passed, reducing rates. The senate
substituted a bill which reduced the number of downward revisions and increased many others. This
angered many and so a compromise bill was adopted which moderated the high rates that Aldrich had
pushed for. Overall the tariff lowered 650 items, raised 220, and left 1150 unchanged. Although it was
a push economic change, it was a largely protectionist move from Taft, showing that he had not much
determination in fixing economic problems. But at the same time it shows that tariffs were needed to

The imprudent control used by all the boys in the novel shows how there is inherently evil in all of
man, just shown by how the boys treat one another. William Golding believes that evil comes from
within you and is apart of you, but is suppressed by society. When the Beast or the Lord of the Flies
gets into Simon s head, it says, I am part of you (142). The evil from the beast is speaking to Simon s
heart and mind. Simon s conscience is speaking to and the evil is trying to turn him into a sadistic
aggressive boy just like Jack. It was not society who tried to turn Simon evil, it was the beast who
tried to get into Simon s mind to make him become a savage. Evil is inside everyone yet it is through
society, that evil is shown. Evil can also come from an uncontrolled civilization, just like what the
boys had on the island. The beast was harmless and horrible; and the news must reach the others as
soon as possible (147) here Simon is able to see what the others could not see in the dark. He saw the
truth of the Lord of the Flies, but he wants to share all this information with the boys that the evil is
inside of them. The other boys on the other hand can not see through the dark, which causes Simon s
tragic death. Henery, even being a very young kid compared to the others seems to enjoy and excites
him as well by controlling and playing with living creatures and He poked about with a bit of stick . . .

Disney s Stereotypes
Introduction
For many of us, Walt Disney Pictures have played a large part in our childhood. Giroux (1995) even
goes as far as saying that Disney are just as useful as school teachers and parents at teaching values
and morals to younger children. For the past century, many kids have looked up to Disney characters
with great admiration. Although these characters may have taught us lessons and inspired us to aim for
our dreams, they have also exposed us to the beauty goodness stereotype (Dion, Berscheid, Walster,
1972)

Anti obesity effects of polyunsaturated fatty acids
Introduction
In recent years, obesity has become a significant health problem in industrialized countries such as the
United States. Obesity is strongly associated with increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes
mellitus, hypertension, dyslipidemia, coronary heart disease, and congestive heart failure. The World
Health Organization has defined obesity as one of the top ten global health problems. High fat diets
containing large amounts of saturated fat and low amounts of unsaturated fat, may directly increase
the prevalence of obesity (Li, 2008). Research studies have suggested that polyunsaturated fatty acids

These fish oils are not produced in humans, but are not considered essential; although they take part in
important functions such as in cell membranes, gene interactions, and others (Williams, 2009). For
example, omega 3 fatty acid supplementation containing DHA has been observed to lessen the
inflammatory component of several chronic diseases (Browning 2003; Calder 2006). The
cardioprotective effects of supplementing DHA and EPA are well documented; they have been shown
to reduce total serum triacylglycerol concentrations, blood pressure, platelet aggregation, and
inflammation (Breslow 2006; Richter 2003).
Far fewer studies have focused on the anti obesity effects of DHA and EPA. However, these studies
have reported enhanced lipid oxidation, increased thermogenesis, prevention of free fatty acids from
entering adipocytes for lipogenesis, as well as other potential anti obesity effects (Li, 2008).
Underlying Mechanisms of Anti Obesity Effects of PUFA
PUFA decrease energy intake and/or increase energy expenditure
The body s ability to maintain a balance between energy intake and output is controlled by multiple
complex systems and imbalance of this system leads to metabolic symptoms such as obesity. Obesity
normally occurs when energy intake exceeds energy output (Hanbauer et al 2009). It has been shown
that overtime appetite is stimulated when there is a decrease in the circulating level of fat metabolizing
products. An individual s

Mini Case Study
Williams Sonoma
MBA 5101
John A. Taylor
1. If Williams Sonoma continues with its present strategies and objectives, where will it be in 5 years?
Given today s economy, and the bleak economic outlook, I do not believe Williams Sonoma will
continue to exist with its current strategies and objectives to serve its below target market consumers.
Bottom line is many consumers cannot afford the products being sold by the company. Although, the
company s target market is in the 10% of wealthiest consumers, and had total earnings of over 3.5
billion. (2010 shareholders meeting). Other avenues of generating revenue must be explored. I fear

I would consider lowering price points so I could tap into the more than 10% of consumers without
becoming Wal Mart . Now the company did do something to increase its position that I found useful.
That was to decrease its overall lease space by 2%. (2010 shareholders meeting). This reduction in
retail occupancy costs attributed to the 1 billion dollars the company enjoyed last year. I would also
consider expanding the company s customer base by broadening the product line to similar to Home
Goods or Bed Bath and beyond who currently double the revenue of Williams Sonoma. (Redistribute
assets earmarked for traditional cataloging to online accesses. Not only will this save money, but will
also impact paper usage. I believe advertising in this was has all but outlived its usefulness.
3. Describe the competitive strategies used by each of Williams Sonoma s competitors. Which of these
are most effective?
Williams Sonoma has six major competitors plus one more in their market. The company holds only
7.9% market share (FY10) to main competitor Bed, Bath and Beyond with an astonishing 34.4%.
(William sonoma.com/investors) BBB s strategy is to offer competitive prices for quality products. Its
target market is middle to upper middle class and this is the reason it fairs better in the current market.
The Bombay Company s strategy was to increase its footprint by increasing outlet store

The Is Not Our Type
On Monday, September 14, my partner and I set out to find someone that was Not our Type . When I
first heard about the assignment I was extremely nervous for what would lie ahead. I m not a very
talkative person and hardly ever just have random conversations with people that I don t know. I knew
that this assignment would certainly get me out of my comfort zone, and cause me to really branch
out. A huge part of talking to others about Christ is to just start up a simple conversation to work off
of. It can become even more difficult when someone has a different background or separate moral
values. I was by no means looking forward to the awkwardness that would possibly lie ahead, we
decided that the best place to start would be Walmart since people are there 24/7. We walked in at
around 9 p.m. and started our search. After about 20 minutes we finally decided to make our move on
someone. We walked up to a young man that looked to be in high school and began our conversation.
We started off by just introducing ourselves and telling him that we were working on an assignment
and just wanted to get to know him a little bit better. The conversation actually flowed really well and
we had a lot in common like our love for sports and technology. His name is Dilan Patel and he s a
junior at Siloam High. You can probably tell by the last name that Dilan is Indian. I knew going into
the conversation that he would be very different from us morally, ethnically, and even physically.

Nabokov Use Of Symbolism In Lolita
The novel Lolita exposes the pedophilia and perversion in the text; however, the child pornography
invoked is very similar to the abrasive ads, commercials, and images viewed in America. It seems
sanctimonious that such a controversial novel because of the pedophilia, does not take into account
objectifying young girls. Integrity is not the concern in Lolita; a novel that represents the exploitation
towards the young girls is. While Humbert is a perverse and gruesome man that has pedophiliac
desires, Lolita s use of language, form, and contextual writing sends a message towards the extortion
of young girls. To be more specific, in the article, Lolita speaks: Sexting, teenage girls and the law

benighted enough to think that such stuff matters in literature (17). The novel captivates the reader by

Do I Look Like Public Enemy Number One By Lorraine Ali
Throughout the world there are countries where you can express yourself freely and other countries
where you can not. Fortunately, Americans have the privilege of individual rights to have their own

safer to have mainstream thoughts. Americans are led to think a certain way as suggested in the article

Cleveland Clinic s Overall Strategy For Improving Value...
Cleveland Clinic s overall strategy for improving value for patients is to live by it s message of
patients first , developed by the Clinic s CEO, Dr Cosgrove. The overall strategy for improving value
for patients was on by putting patients first and giving them the best that they could offer. They aimed
their strategy at not only patients, but to providers as well to ensure that they would improve the value
of service or experience that they would provide to patients. This was done in 6 components that will
be described below. 1. Service Pre service Cleveland Clinic moved into reorganizing all services into
multi disciplinary teams based on the patients perspective and disease systems called Institutes. It
moved into Clinical Institutes and special expertise institutes This allowed clarity to patients and they
knew where to go to get the care that they needed. On top of this, there was also Support Institutes
created that would provide support to the Clinical Institutes. Cleveland Clinic not only provided pre
service to patients, but provided pre service to attract providers into their network. They provided
training for providers and offered them a good electronic medical record system. The clinic opened a
medical school which was a year longer than other schools as it offered special training in both
clinical care and research. The tuition cost of the students from July 2008 were covered and each
medical student was offered a position to work in Cleveland

An Analysis Of Andre AlexisThe Hidden Keys
People are overwhelmed when stuck in between certainty and uncertainty. In the face of ambiguity,
knowledge of the certain is required to obtain power, and only through the revelation of the uncertain
can liberation be achieved. Despite the possibility of failure, success can be achieved and the rewards
from succeeding are invaluable to the growth of character. This philosophy is solidified in André
Alexis , The Hidden Keys, through the character Tancred. Tancred is capable of finding the hidden
treasure because he never let uncertainty get the better of him; he searches for answers without
knowing if there are even any to be found., hHe is a man of principle which allows him to follow his
morals, not let the opinions of others affect his, and persevere until he reaches the goal.
Morality is one s way of life; it helps determine right from wrong. When one encounters a moral
decision, the individual is given the opportunity to think about their behaviour in order to act justly.
Tancred is a moral person, but he chooses a career path that makes others believe otherwise: [H]e s
been a thief from the age of eleven, but this was the first time he d had difficulty deciding what to do
with a stone. It was as if the diamond had a personality (Alexis 10). This suggests that although he
may be a thief, he is a thief with good nature. His good morals allow him to make decisions that put
the needs of others before his own. This is evident when Willow asks a favour of Tancred:

Capital Punishment Is A Penalty For All Crimes
Capital punishment has been occurring since the earliest of the ages and has been performed numerous
times around the globe by all differently opinionated people. Last year only, 256 citizens have been
executed by the hand of law and only more to be uncovered. Capital punishment was part of culture in
Babylon where it coded the penalty for exactly twenty five crimes, Athens where death was suitable
for all crimes, and Rome. Since the olden ages, humans are still holding crimes against other people
applicable by death. But now, as humanity grows and our minds expand to new ideas and thinking, we
have come to the conclusion: As humans, do we really have the right to take away another soul s life
and living? So, as capital punishment makes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Capital punishment assesses the perseverance of humanity and its morals. Because, the question is, is
the federal government allowed to murder such souls though tainted? But, the question is more, do
these victims deserve the cruelty of death? Expressing one s violence does not suppress it, in fact, it
simply enforces the desire to express it. Controlling and demonstrating emotions in such a way that
contaminates the good will in humans that is able to understand sentiment. As stated by Thurgood
Marshall, the late Justice of the Supreme Court, in in a June 29, 1972 Furman v. Georgia, In judging
whether or not a given penalty is morally acceptable, most courts have said that the punishment is
valid unless it shocks the conscience and sense of justice of the people. Assuming knowledge of all the
facts presently available regarding capital punishment, the average citizen would, in my opinion, find
it shocking to his conscience and sense of justice. For this reason alone, capital punishment cannot
stand. Thinking rationally, while inputting variables into the equation of the justice of capital
punishment, you could assume, depending on your variables, that capital punishment might be of a
formidable use. But thinking with your soul is much different. A gut decision , you may call it. But,
why would a functioning being, with a valid reason, chose to voluntarily murder a soul, another one,
similar to yours? The government is a social

Crime And Its Effects On Campus Crime
Campus crime has had an effect on people s lives for a long time. Records of criminal activity on
campuses go back as early as the 1850 s. Crimes on campus include acts of violence, drug possession,
and distribution of drugs and alcohol. These crimes have a huge effect on the lives of the people
involved and others around them. Criminal activity can be influenced by events that occur in a person
s life, like the death of a family member or a violent or traumatic experience. Criminal activity may be
prevented in schools with clear enforcement of rules established to reduce threats and increase
security measures. Crimes on campus is anything that disrupts the educational process. These events
have always been around, but this is the earliest recording. In 1856, a murder took place at a school in
Florence, Alabama. A school master warned his students not to harm his sparrow. A boy stepped on it,
and killed it. The school master strangled the boy days later. The father of the boy shot and killed the
schoolmaster at the school. While this was the first murder to take place at a school, it isn t the worst.
In 1927, in Bath County, a bombing took place at Bath Community School, killing 45 people and
injuring 58 others. This is just a few examples of what can happen on campuses. A big part of campus
crime is drug possession. A minor can be charged with juvenile drug possession if caught with a
controlled or illegal substance. If caught in a school zone, the student can face

Biography of Rolf Benirschke
Heroes come in all sizes, shapes, genders, and backgrounds. Heroes can be defined by many different
standards and are people of great character, who spend their lives doing what they can to help others
in need. Everyone has his or her favorite hero, my favorite hero is one that is little known but to me is
a true inspiration. My hero is Rolf Benirschke. He is my hero for the courage, inspiration, and help
that his words provided me when I was recovering from lifesaving surgery. I do not know Rolf, I do
not know if I ever will get to meet him, but one thing I do know is that he had to fight the same life
changing illness that I did, Ulcerative Colitis. This provided the relationship and admiration that I
have with and for him as my hero. First, Rolf Benirschke was a normal every day young man who had
a family and normal upbringing, just like me. Rolf has a good build, he is skinny, tall, and has brown
hair and brown eyes. Throughout high school, college, and into his profession, Rolf s life seemed to be
just like every other normal person. He was drafted into the National Football League (NFL) to be a
kicker. Soon after he began his third season as a kicker in the NFL, Rolf fainted on the team plane.

Comparing Killings And Greasy Lake
Stories may be different, but they all have at least one thing in common. Whether they have the same
theme or not, all stories are drawn together by interesting topics to keep the reader s attention. The
three short stories used in this comparison are Killings by Andres Dubus, Cons by Jess Walter and
Greasy Lake by T. Coraghessan Boyle. Although written by different authors all stories deal with
killings and death.
The first story, Killings the main character Matt Fowler, goes on a rampage with Strout, the man who
murdered his youngest son Frank. In Cons the main character Kyle is constantly reliving the memory
of killing a teenage girl. The last story, Greasy Lake a group of dumb teenage boys think they killed a

The Constellation Explosion In Greek Mythology

The Constellation Orion
Many of the constellations in the night sky are based on characters in Greek
mythology. Orion is a constellation and he has an interesting story in Greek mythology.
There are numerous versions of the myth of Orion, but one of the more common
stories is that Orion claimed to be the greatest hunter in the world, much to the dismay
of Hera, the wife of Zeus. She had a scorpion kill him, so Zeus put Orion in the sky as a
constellation to honor his fallen son. The scorpion also has a constellation, but cannot
be seen at the same time in the night sky (Zimmerman).

Essay on Racism and Interracial Marriage in Othello
Racism and Interracial Marriage in Othello
Othello: The Moor of Venice is probably Shakespeare s most controversial play. Throughout this
work, there is a clear theme of racism, a racism that has become commonplace in Venetian society
which rejects the marriage of Othello and Desdemona as anathema. The text expresses racism
throughout the play within the language transaction of the dialogue to question the societal ethos
established by Othello, thereby making him nothing less than a cultural other. Furthermore, the
character of Desdemona is displayed as mad, or out of her wits, for marrying such an other, and the
audience sees her slip from an angelic state of purity to that of a tainted character. Also, the menacing

Why else would he address the senator Brabantio with something that was really none of his business?
If one believes that miscegenation is a taboo currently manifested within the play then he/she will see
how Iago was acting as a representative of society a synecdoche responsible for pointing out that
something has gone wrong with a hidden purpose or motive that was the locus for his actions. Iago is
the antithetical character of Shakespeare s creation. He is the catalyst of all the destructive happenings
within the play starting from the very beginning of the play when he and Roderigo approach the
residence of Brabantio, Desdemona s father, in Act 1 scene 1. He uses racist language to appeal to the
senator s traditional beliefs, including such phrases as Even now, now, very now, an old black ram / Is
tupping your white ewe (1.1.85 86). Iago even goes so far as to hypothesize that Brabantio s
grandchildren will be animals because of his daughter s base marriage with an other.
you ll have your daughter covered with a Barbary
horse, you ll have your nephews neigh to you
you ll have coursers for cousins, and gennets for
germans. (1.1.108 111)
Iago plays out the importance of his role when he further states that he is the one, almost as if he were
appointed to such a position, who must inform Brabantio that his daughter and the Moor were making
the beast with two backs (1.1.112 113). But

Using Interconnected Computer Networks For Communication
The term internet refers to a system of billions of interconnected computers across the globe that uses
a universally accepted and standardized internet protocol suite also known as the TCP/IP. The internet
makes it possible to access extensive information resources through the World Wide Web (WWW),
supports telephony, email and file sharing (Ian, 2004). The internet started out as a commissioned
study by the United States government in the 1960s to explore the possibility of using interconnected
computer networks for communication. This was also done in Europe but real progress came in the
1980s when funding was availed to create the needed basic infrastructure by the USA organisation;
National Science foundation and then by other private entities. From here the interconnected
computers grew in number at rapid rates. This was the case since personal, institutional and mobile
computers continue to get added to the network to date (University of Texas, 2002). Basically the birth
of the internet was necessitated by the need to communicate and to share data and information as
effectively as possible. The growth of internet use has however continued to grow at a tremendous
pace all across the world making it a part of many people s daily lives. The internet has become such
an integral part of many people s lives that they rely on it for such activities as communicating,
entertainment and even earning a living. However, as is the case with most innovations, the internet

Visiting a Museum
It makes sense to approach a museum the way a seasoned traveler approaches visiting a city for the
first time. Find out what there is available to see. In the museum, find out what sort of exhibitions are
currently housed in the museum and start with the exhibits that interest you.
If there is a travelling exhibition, it s always a good idea to see it while you have the chance. Then, if
you have time, you can look at other things in the museum.
Every effort should be made ahead of time to identify a museum that has items and works one can
easily connect to our HUM 111 class and book. Since HUM 111 covers from ancient times to the
1500s AD, it makes more sense to focus on items from that time frame. In general, museums with
artistic cultural artifacts and fine arts work better than history museums.

be decided by the instructor when the student seeks approval for the activity. Any alternative

Elements Of A Nuclear Family In Franz Kafka s Metamorphosis
Most familial conflicts can almost always be solved with communication, a seemingly simple idea;
yet, society has manipulated this concept into an exceedingly strenuous activity. What makes this task
so unbearable and problematic? Is it simply the inability to comprehend and acknowledge human
emotion or could it be a deep rooted fear of unacceptance? Franz Kafka utilizes the profound elements
of a nuclear family and alters these stereotypes in order to expose countless faults within a disjointed
bloodline in Kafka s novella Metamorphosis.
A nuclear family: a mother, father, sister, and brother the basic outline of every family worldwide. The
Samsa s fit within this shell yet many grow and change and need new shells. Gregor attempts to
follow in the footsteps of his family and the historical stereotypes during Gregor s early adulthood. By
having to obtain a job and provide for the entire family can be seen as a major responsibility and
Gregor seems overwhelmed hence his chance in physical and emotional demeanor. Kafka states: He
felt very proud that he had been able to provide such as a life in so nice an apartment for his parents
and his sister. But what now if all the peace, the comfort, the contentment were to come to a horrible
end? (Kafka 22). Gregor embodies the typical young man in a growing home where the men are sent
out to work and the women stay home to cook, clean, and assist the men. Kafka continues to add
pressure on Gregor with feelings of guilt, pride,

Essay on The Red Room and The Cone by H.G. Wells
The Red Room and The Cone by H.G. Wells
Both stories are Gothic mystery stories and were written around the late eighteenth century to the
early nineteenth century. These sorts of stories usually have a setting of a dark, abandoned and scary
place. The Red Room is about a young man who visits a castle and feels he must spend a night in a
mysterious room that is suspected to be haunted. The Cone is about a woman having an affair with a
man called
Raut. The story is based around the husband who is called Horrocks seeing Raut with his wife.
However it is not known whether or not
Horrocks knows if his wife is having an affair with Raut.

This is because it gives the reader an idea of the person so they can visualise it for themselves, but at
the same time doesn t give the reader enough information which therefore makes the reader feel more
involved in the book. For example, in The Cone it reads a silent grey, shadowy figure. This description
is vague and so it doesn t give the reader a clear picture of the character, and therefore, this again
creates tension because of the lack of description. In the case of The Red Room there is also a
description of a man that possesses a withered arm. This is an uncommon feature in any person, even
one as old as the one mentioned in the story. The reader would think that there must have been a
reason why this old man has this feature and because the reason has not been explained to the reader,
he or she will be compelled to read on to find out how the old man achieved this withered arm.
Also I believe that the descriptions of major characters and settings would add to the tension and
suspense as well. This is because in giving the reader a small but detailed description of the setting, it
involves the reader more, therefore the reader feels more involved with the book and so tension is
created a lot easier. In The Red Room the sentence chilly echoing passage and long draughty
subterranean passage draws the reader into the story and helps them feel as if they were

Salaries And Compensation Packages Should Be Regulated
1. Introduction
Currently, there is an increasing argument about whether CEOs salaries and compensation packages
have become excessive, consequently, should be regulated. According to the High Pay Centre (n.d., as
cited in, West, 2016) and the Tim Bush (n.d., as cited in, West, 2016), chief executives from FTSE 100
received a salary of £4.96m a year which is 180 times more than the average UK employees . This
essay argues that the compensation and salaries for chief executives are excessive, therefore, should be
regulated. In this essay, the reasons for why CEOs compensation is excessive will first be argued, then
the stakeholders power and influences on companies performances will be discussed.
1. Excessive compensation
It is believed that there has been an extraordinary growth of CEOs salaries in recent years, which
could lead to an excessive compensation (Mishel and Davis, 2015). It could be augured that the high
pay for CEOs is simply a reflection of the market for skills (Bebchuk and Fried, 2004, as cited in
Mishel and Divis, 2015). Kaplan (as cited in Mishel and Divis, 2015), who published an economic
research working paper in 2012 claimed that the high salary for CEO is not unique, as other groups
with similar backgrounds have also seen a dramatic growth in their salaries. For example, the salaries
for corporate lawyers and hedge fund investors have also increased significantly. As a result, the rising
CEOs pay might be a result of a competitive market for

Water is essential for us to live and yet there are still so many issue linked to contamination of water
and the health of people. A large proportion of the World s population around 1.1 billion people does
not have access to improved sources of water (Thompson et al., 2003). Many people take for granted
their ability to access clean water. When in reality this problem has been occurring for a very long
time and affects a vast amount of people. The first documented attempts to treat drinking water, which
may date back to 4000 B.C., were recorded in Greek and Sanskrit writings (Barry M and Hughes J,
2008). Even with the technology and knowledge we have today this problem is still occurring. In
order to fully understand its implications on people it has to be looked at in a global context.
According to Thompson et al. (2003), a long term goal of Global Health is to cut in half the number of
people who do not have access to clean water. This initiative will necessitate innovative, collaborative,
interdisciplinary, and intersectoral efforts, with commitment from national leaders and heads of
international agencies and with public private partnership (Barry M and Hughes J, 2008). Blending

Reflection Of Schindler s List
It can be quite difficult to describe how you view the world around you. A way to do just that could be
to analyze how you view a specific film or piece of literature, describe how it makes you feel, and see
what that says about you as a person. As such, I will analyze my view on the movie, Schindler s List ,
one of my favorite movies. The movie is about Oskar Schindler who uses World War 2 as an
opportunity to make money as a manufacturer. He is a very smart and likeable businessman who
knows how to use his money and charisma to influence others. He manages to start his manufactory
near the Krakow ghetto and uses the inhabitants of it for cheap labor. Schindler changes throughout
the film, starting as selfish and ending up very selfless. His accountant, also a jew, takes hiring as his
responsibility and uses it to save people from being shipped to concentration camps. Schindler is
initially mad at this revelation but soon comes to realize the good it does and allows this to continue
and expand, demonstrating how he changes. Towards the end of the movie, he ends up saving over
eleven hundred jews, and his only regret that brings him to tears is that he feels he could have saved
more. This film demonstrates to me that people are responsible for their own actions, evil is inherent
in this world, and distrust in authority can be good and necessary. I believe people are responsible for
their own actions. I came to believe this for several reasons. When I was growing up, it was common
for my parents to say things to this effect. You get what you deserve and you get out what you put in
were both similar in that regard. The idea was that your actions produce a net result that affects you
and potentially others. My father usually said this to me in regards to being a decent person or playing
football. He drove me to be a better athlete but said I was responsible to work hard. He told me that I
am a result of the decisions I make, that I become my actions. I had observed this for myself in the
real world and came to believe it outright. Personally, I noticed that when I worked harder at school I
got better grades. When I practiced football more, I saw the results and became better. When I
workout, I feel better

In a well researched and scholarly book, Doctors Joesph and Jo Blase accomplish two tasks: outlining
how principals should apply instructional leadership skills while performing their jobs, and describing
how principals should maintain positive relationships with their teachers while still effectively
leading. As well published, credentialed authors in the field of educational leadership, the both of the
Blases serve as credible sources on the topic. To accomplish their desired tasks, the authors divide the
book into brief chapters that each explain either an attribute of instructional leadership or a method for
maintaining positive principal teacher relations. According to the authors themselves, the book s
shows what successful instructional leaders do to enhance teaching and learning and the effects that
their behaviors have on teachers performance and well being (xiii). Through the authors careful
organization of research, use of primary sources, and use of secondary sources, the book accomplishes
this goal.
To organize their research, the Blases first divide their information into the broad categories of Part I:
The Art and Science of Instructional Leadership and Part II: How Supervisor s Behaviors Positive and
Negative Affect Teachers. By first dividing their information into these two broad categories, the
authors effectively organize their research. While the concept of carrying out instructional leadership,
as described in Part I, and how leaders should

Racism And The Effect Of Social Injustice
On Sunday April 17th, 2016 the curtain time was 2pm. I had the experience to see a play, which was,
required reading in high school, which left a memory in my mind and other classmates. The play was
To kill a Mocking Bird by Christopher Sergel, based on the novel by harper lee. The manatee players
in collaboration with legal aid of Manasota preformed the play. The performance was held at manatee
preforming arts center in the Kiwanis theatre, the ticket prices was thirteen dollars for students. This
award winning production of this play has also been on film. The novel sold over fifteen million
copies. This play takes place in Macomb, Alabama this was a time in the history of America when
citizens were in a struggle with the civil rights movement. In this play the goal is to help you
understand racism and the effects of social injustice. To summarize the play it is about a black man
whom is accused of forcing himself on a white girl and sexually assaulting her. A white attorney who
does not measure people by he color of their skin or social economic status represents him. The
characters represent the stereotypes of small town southern inhabitance, with the mind of pre civil
rights culture. My impression is we continue in this time period to have social injustice and racism,
not to the degree portrayed in the play but it is the elephant in the room and in the news. One of the
main characters is scout, which is one of Atticus finches children , whom a long with her brother

American Foreign Policy
The most frustrating and complex foreign policy issues in the world, was a statement that was once
used by past President Bill Clinton to describe foreign policy matters with the Balkans. This era of
history is a classic example of America s continuous battle between isolationism and internationalism.
Given the circumstances that were occurring throughout the Balkans Region the United States really
had no other option but to intervene. With America s leadership and their power to influence the
foreign policy that came to be established has made great changes in the Balkans, yet it brought
burdens to the U.S as well. The Balkans has moved from the likes of war to reconciliation, from
fragmentation to operative growth and from having a lack ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Under the Bill Clinton Administration reformation and foreign policy was beginning to be established
with the proper delegations, resources and policies. According to The History Place President Clinton
called for action, an ultimatum through the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) demanding
that the Serbs withdraw their artillery from Sarajevo. The Serbs quickly complied and a NATO
imposed cease fire in Sarajevo was declared. (Kershaw.) This was just the beginning of foreign
development solution for the Balkan region. The Clinton administration pushed diplomatic regulations
that were designed to unify the Serbs and the Croats. However, the Serbs did not take to the policies
very well and still continued to attack towns in the Croatian areas and kill them as well. The Serbs
began to disregard all Safe Haven zones that were established thus force for the UN to call air strikes
into the Serbs territory. It was until 1995 that America finally sent active military troop to assist in the
war overseas. With the success of the United States military the Serbs were quickly losing ground and
well as soldiers. This forced the Serbs to surrender as The History Place states, On November 1, 1995,
leaders of the warring factions including Milosevic and Tudjman traveled to the U.S. for peace talks at
Wright Patterson Air Force base in Ohio. (Kershaw.) As a result foreign policies were declared. One
was that the two nations be seceded from one another as independent states. Two was that democratic
methods be used and followed through on in all government activities. Third all criminals from the
war were to be turned in a prosecuted with proper punishment. Also as a result the Dayton Peace
Agreement was created as a peace agreement that was established in Dayton, Ohio

King Oedipus The King Essay
Sophocles play, King Oedipus is a perfect example of a clear Aristotelian tragedy. In fact, it was so
perfect that Aristotle himself considered it the ideal tragedy. An Aristotelian tragedy is serious action
in a dramatic text that portrays incidents arousing pity and fear, causing catharsis in the audience.
Aspects of a tragedy include a tragic hero, who is neither good nor bad, who has a hamartia which
causes him to ignore a divine warning or violate a moral law. A common example of hamartia is
hubris, or pride. A tragedy is also often accompanied by a peripeteia, which is when the tragic hero has
a sudden change of fortune. The tragic hero moves us to pity and also to fear, by showing us how what
happened to him could happen to us as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, he also shows that other characters also have some of these tragic qualities and that they
contribute to Oedipus downfall. Firstly, Sophocles uses irony when Oedipus says, It is I whom no
stranger, no citizen must take to his house; I to whom none may speak; on me is the curse that none
but i have laid. This is an example of irony because it shows that Oedipus sets all these curses for
anyone who killed Laius, yet he will end up being ensnared by these curses, which he himself laid.
This line references when Oedipus explains about how he kills all of the people in Laius party save
one, who became a shepherd, and it evokes our terror by showing how Oedipus is capable of such an
extreme act of violence, and this shows Oedipus as a tragic hero. Similarly, Sophocles uses irony
when Jocasta says, Where are you now, divine prognostications? which shows how Oedipus is not the
only culprit in this tragedy, and that Jocasta ignores a divine warning, which helps to show the play as
an Aristotelian play, and that these characters who are not quite tragic heroes do contribute to Oedipus
downfall. Lastly, Sophocles uses high modality when Oedipus says, I must unlock the secret of my
birth. He uses the high modality to show Oedipus final hamartia: that he sought the truth until it was
too late, and this causes his peripeteia, which

  • 2. A Comparison Of Alexander Hamilton And Aaron Burr Over the centuries there has arisen many undisputed geniuses such as Leonardo da Vinci, William Shakespeare, and Albert Einstein. With the rise of geniuses such as these there are two questions raised. What is genius? Is genius born or can it be learned? Scholars have gone back and forth and there is plenty of evidence and countless examples supporting either side. However, there appears to be a compromise between the two sides in how a genius comes about. To begin, it is common for many people to laud a skilled person as a genius . In reality, a genius is defined as, extraordinary intellectual power especially as manifested in creative activity (Meriam). Clearly, a genius who possesses more than just intellectual superiority; one must ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Gates later went on co found Microsoft and create lasting and groundbreaking computer software that continues to be valuable to society as technology has become common in day to day life. Undoubtedly, Gate s intellect, passion, and creativity led him to create an extraordinary product and established him as a modern genius. To begin, genius comes about through passion, creativity, and natural talent and cannot be born . First, intellect is the obvious foundation for any genius, however, it involves more than natural intelligence. To illustrate, an individual may have great talent in a certain subject but lack of practice, imagination and passion will prevent him from being a genius. On the other hand, one may not have an astounding natural ability nevertheless he practices, has a passion for this subject and an open imagination; this individual may turn out to be a genius. Thus, intellect is an aspect of a genius not the only component. Further, passion has long been known to be a powerful force in humans and it has led to artistic and scientific advances. Passion pushes individuals to not give up in testing new theories, invention or techniques. Insert example of how passion motivated. To illustrate, Tesla faced much opposition nonetheless his passion for his work pushed him to overcome them and to create. Thus, it is passion that sees intellect through to ... As a matter of fact what you see on T.V. is around 80% false or over exaggerated in some way. To Start of, Criminal Investigation is the largest and most known form of Forensic Science. Some argue that this may Create reality and not illustrate it, but that s up to the court to decide. An example of how this works was used when a snowplow struck an Iowa State basketball players car killing him. The plow driver was going 10 miles over the speed limit. Short Essay On Seaford Short Story It was the winter of 1993 and I stand there in sleepy, little seaford huddling inside my school blazer against the chill of the air waiting for my bus to take me to school. The sound of train wheels screeching on the tracks drift off in the distance and cigarette smoke engulfs me from a nearby junkie puffing away. Seaford is a quiet suburb on the mornington peninsula, everyone knows each other and everything about each other. Small news for most suburbs is big news for seaford because nothing ever happens in little seaford. My bus drops me off at school, students are rushing to get to there classes and the usual chatter fills the air. I get to my class and take a seat except I can t help notice that today there is more buzz flowing through the air from my classmates, i look around and i can see expressions of fear as well as excitement on their faces. • 6. Essay about Conflict Resolution Conflict Resolution Many people enjoy working or participating in a group or team, but when a group of people work together chances are that conflicts will occur. Hazleton describes conflict as the discrepancy between what is the perceived reality and what is seen as ideal (2007). We enter into conflicts reluctantly, cautiously, angrily, nervously, confidently and emerge from them battered, exhausted, sad, satisfied, triumphant. And still many of us underestimate or overlook the merits of conflict the opportunity conflict offers every time it occurs (Schilling, nd.). Conflict does not have to lead to a hostile environment or to broken relationships. Conflict if resolved effectively can lead to a positive experience for everyone ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Keeping all these in mind can lead to the best solution to solve the conflict. Change and Expectations People do not always adjust well to change. Oftentimes when change occurs, conflict will arise. The new boss on the job or the new member of the team may be the change that brings a conflict. Expectations if not set clearly and held to standard can also lead to conflict among the team. Expectations must be set from the beginning. Expectations must also be clear and it must be verified that each team member understands the expectations. If a short coming on the expectations occurs, then action must be taken immediately. If no action is taken this could be understood as silent approval and team members will believe that the expectation is no longer important or required. When conflict does occur, the five models set out in The Thomas Kilmann Conflict Mode Instrument sets the standards for resolving the conflict. Avoidance Avoidance is defined as an act or practice of avoiding or withdrawing from something (Merriam Webster.com). Avoidance may not be the answer if the conflict directly affects the team or the team s goal. Avoidance is usually used when the conflict is irrelevant, relationships are at stake, more important issues are pressing, when one party is more emotionally involved, or when more information is needed (Culbertson, 2000). In avoidance the parties involved agree to place ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Interpersonal Conflict In Goblin Market By Christina Rossetti Often in narrative literature main characters develop over the course of the story line through the conflicts that they encounter. In the poem, Goblin Market , the author Christina Rossetti, depicts a story of two sisters with completely opposite morals and opinions. The main characters, Lizzie and Laura, each sit on opposite sides of what they believe to be socially correct and are different in every way. Throughout the poem, some characters are forced to adapt and act in ways out of their comfort zone to provide for the ones which they love. In order to save the life of her sister Lizzie is forced to take action and spread her wings, thus developing as a character. Through her relationship with Laura, the internal conflict regarding her morals and the interpersonal conflict with the goblins, Lizzie evolves from a timid and orderly character, into a heroic and outgoing character. Upon the commencement of the poem, Rossetti makes it crystal clear to the reader that Lizzie is timid to stretch beyond her comfort zone and is strict to follow the social standard and what is morally right. Out of the two girls, Lizzie is the one whom is set in her ways and will not go against what is socially acceptable. Laura being the opposite of Lizzie becomes curious when she hears the goblins enticing cries. Lizzie seems to be the voice of reason for Laura, Oh, cried Lizzie, Laura, Laura, You should not peep at goblin men. Lizzie cover d up her eyes, Cover d close lest they should look; In this quote Lizzie is shown advising Laura that she literally should not look at the goblin men and in a more figurative sense she is warning Laura that she should not fall for the tricks of the goblins. Lizzie then follows this warning with covering her own eyes as if this will help to protect her from the goblins. This quote is a strong demonstration of how timid Lizzie was made out to be at the beginning of the poem. The character of Lizzie is also made out to be quite orderly as she seems to be keen on following what is socially correct. In the poem, it is implied that interacting with the goblins is against what is socially correct and could be interpreted as a sin or something that is frowned upon in today s day. As ... This is a statement that many scholars and young educated persons believe to be true on the basis of assumption. Thomas Conlan challenges this preconceived notion of loyalty and honor in his book State of War by piecing together a much more difficult and situationally based definition of loyalty which differed depending on the samurai and by observing how times of war and hardship truly challenged an individual s sense of honor. Loyalty is a difficult term to define when considering a couple of key factors. First of all, samurai had more than one aspect in which to be loyal. Other cases of disloyalty didn t cause quite the ruckus that Fukusuke s supposed disloyalty did. A samurai named Mori Motoharu changed sides multiple times without consequence. Motoharu started fighting with loyalty to Ashikaga Takauji, rebelled against Takauji in 1350, only to end up fighting for him again in 1360. Loyalty to oneself directly deals with doing what one believes is morally correct versus what one is forced to do when backed into a corner. The decisions between right and wrong aren t blurred but harder to abide by when in times of war and suffering. Samurai had to make less than honorable choices such as stealing from temples, travelers, and merchants during rough times. Integrity of the samurai were also challenged in times of war. Rewards could be granted for losses, such as losing a horse or a disciple (armor weapons) or getting injured. A samurai could gain status among his peers by killing a noble warrior and presenting this noble warrior s head in proof of killing them. Both reward, such as land, money, or compensation, and status were important to samurai, more so to some than others, and thus challenged their honor and integrity. Taft showed more of his successful and unsuccessfulness with the passing of the Payne Aldrich Tariff Act. The tariff was passed by Congress in 1909, and it was the first change in tariff laws since the Dingley Act of 1897. The issue had been blatantly ignored by Roosevelt during his terms and the Republicans wanted to revise the tariff downward. To do this Taft called Congress to a special session, and the bill was promptly passed, reducing rates. The senate substituted a bill which reduced the number of downward revisions and increased many others. This angered many and so a compromise bill was adopted which moderated the high rates that Aldrich had pushed for. Overall the tariff lowered 650 items, raised 220, and left 1150 unchanged. • 22. The Is Not Our Type On Monday, September 14, my partner and I set out to find someone that was Not our Type . When I first heard about the assignment I was extremely nervous for what would lie ahead. I m not a very talkative person and hardly ever just have random conversations with people that I don t know. I knew that this assignment would certainly get me out of my comfort zone, and cause me to really branch out. A huge part of talking to others about Christ is to just start up a simple conversation to work off of. It can become even more difficult when someone has a different background or separate moral values. I was by no means looking forward to the awkwardness that would possibly lie ahead, we decided that the best place to start would be Walmart since people are there 24/7. We walked in at around 9 p.m. and started our search. After about 20 minutes we finally decided to make our move on someone. We walked up to a young man that looked to be in high school and began our conversation. We started off by just introducing ourselves and telling him that we were working on an assignment and just wanted to get to know him a little bit better. The conversation actually flowed really well and we had a lot in common like our love for sports and technology. His name is Dilan Patel and he s a junior at Siloam High. You can probably tell by the last name that Dilan is Indian. I knew going into the conversation that he would be very different from us morally, ethnically, and even physically. ... In the face of ambiguity, knowledge of the certain is required to obtain power, and only through the revelation of the uncertain can liberation be achieved. Despite the possibility of failure, success can be achieved and the rewards from succeeding are invaluable to the growth of character. This philosophy is solidified in André Alexis , The Hidden Keys, through the character Tancred. Tancred is capable of finding the hidden treasure because he never let uncertainty get the better of him; he searches for answers without knowing if there are even any to be found., hHe is a man of principle which allows him to follow his morals, not let the opinions of others affect his, and persevere until he reaches the goal. This description is vague and so it doesn t give the reader a clear picture of the character, and therefore, this again creates tension because of the lack of description. In the case of The Red Room there is also a description of a man that possesses a withered arm. This is an uncommon feature in any person, even one as old as the one mentioned in the story. According to the High Pay Centre (n.d., as cited in, West, 2016) and the Tim Bush (n.d., as cited in, West, 2016), chief executives from FTSE 100 received a salary of £4.96m a year which is 180 times more than the average UK employees . This essay argues that the compensation and salaries for chief executives are excessive, therefore, should be regulated. In this essay, the reasons for why CEOs compensation is excessive will first be argued, then the stakeholders power and influences on companies performances will be discussed. 1. Excessive compensation It is believed that there has been an extraordinary growth of CEOs salaries in recent years, which could lead to an excessive compensation (Mishel and Davis, 2015). It could be augured that the high pay for CEOs is simply a reflection of the market for skills (Bebchuk and Fried, 2004, as cited in Mishel and Divis, 2015). Kaplan (as cited in Mishel and Divis, 2015), who published an economic research working paper in 2012 claimed that the high salary for CEO is not unique, as other groups with similar backgrounds have also seen a dramatic growth in their salaries. • 40. Reflection Of Schindler s List It can be quite difficult to describe how you view the world around you. A way to do just that could be to analyze how you view a specific film or piece of literature, describe how it makes you feel, and see what that says about you as a person. As such, I will analyze my view on the movie, Schindler s List , one of my favorite movies. The movie is about Oskar Schindler who uses World War 2 as an opportunity to make money as a manufacturer. He is a very smart and likeable businessman who knows how to use his money and charisma to influence others. He manages to start his manufactory near the Krakow ghetto and uses the inhabitants of it for cheap labor. Schindler changes throughout the film, starting as selfish and ending up very selfless. His accountant, also a jew, takes hiring as his responsibility and uses it to save people from being shipped to concentration camps. Schindler is initially mad at this revelation but soon comes to realize the good it does and allows this to continue and expand, demonstrating how he changes. Towards the end of the movie, he ends up saving over eleven hundred jews, and his only regret that brings him to tears is that he feels he could have saved more. This film demonstrates to me that people are responsible for their own actions, evil is inherent in this world, and distrust in authority can be good and necessary. I believe people are responsible for their own actions. I came to believe this for several reasons. When I was growing up, it was common for my parents to say things to this effect. You get what you deserve and you get out what you put in were both similar in that regard. The idea was that your actions produce a net result that affects you and potentially others. My father usually said this to me in regards to being a decent person or playing football. He drove me to be a better athlete but said I was responsible to work hard. He told me that I am a result of the decisions I make, that I become my actions. I had observed this for myself in the real world and came to believe it outright. To accomplish their desired tasks, the authors divide the book into brief chapters that each explain either an attribute of instructional leadership or a method for maintaining positive principal teacher relations. • 42. Racism And The Effect Of Social Injustice On Sunday April 17th, 2016 the curtain time was 2pm. I had the experience to see a play, which was, required reading in high school, which left a memory in my mind and other classmates. The play was To kill a Mocking Bird by Christopher Sergel, based on the novel by harper lee. The manatee players in collaboration with legal aid of Manasota preformed the play. The performance was held at manatee preforming arts center in the Kiwanis theatre, the ticket prices was thirteen dollars for students. This award winning production of this play has also been on film. The novel sold over fifteen million copies. This play takes place in Macomb, Alabama this was a time in the history of America when citizens were in a struggle with the civil rights movement. In this play the goal is to help you understand racism and the effects of social injustice. To summarize the play it is about a black man whom is accused of forcing himself on a white girl and sexually assaulting her. A white attorney who does not measure people by he color of their skin or social economic status represents him. The characters represent the stereotypes of small town southern inhabitance, with the mind of pre civil rights culture. My impression is we continue in this time period to have social injustice and racism, not to the degree portrayed in the play but it is the elephant in the room and in the news. One of the main characters is scout, which is one of Atticus finches children , whom a long with her brother ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

American Foreign Policy The most frustrating and complex foreign policy issues in the world, was a statement that was once used by past President Bill Clinton to describe foreign policy matters with the Balkans. • 45. King Oedipus The King Essay Sophocles play, King Oedipus is a perfect example of a clear Aristotelian tragedy. In fact, it was so perfect that Aristotle himself considered it the ideal tragedy. An Aristotelian tragedy is serious action in a dramatic text that portrays incidents arousing pity and fear, causing catharsis in the audience. Aspects of a tragedy include a tragic hero, who is neither good nor bad, who has a hamartia which causes him to ignore a divine warning or violate a moral law. A common example of hamartia is hubris, or pride. A tragedy is also often accompanied by a peripeteia, which is when the tragic hero has a sudden change of fortune. The tragic hero moves us to pity and also to fear, by showing us how what happened to him could happen to us as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, he also shows that other characters also have some of these tragic qualities and that they contribute to Oedipus downfall. Firstly, Sophocles uses irony when Oedipus says, It is I whom no stranger, no citizen must take to his house; I to whom none may speak; on me is the curse that none but i have laid. This is an example of irony because it shows that Oedipus sets all these curses for anyone who killed Laius, yet he will end up being ensnared by these curses, which he himself laid. This line references when Oedipus explains about how he kills all of the people in Laius party save one, who became a shepherd, and it evokes our terror by showing how Oedipus is capable of such an extreme act of violence, and this shows Oedipus as a tragic hero. Similarly, Sophocles uses irony when Jocasta says, Where are you now, divine prognostications? which shows how Oedipus is not the only culprit in this tragedy, and that Jocasta ignores a divine warning, which helps to show the play as an Aristotelian play, and that these characters who are not quite tragic heroes do contribute to Oedipus downfall. Lastly, Sophocles uses high modality when Oedipus says, I must unlock the secret of my birth. He uses the high modality to show Oedipus final hamartia: that he sought the truth until it was too late, and this causes his peripeteia, which ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
