European Treatment Of Native Americans In The 1700s
Europeans tore through America in the 1700s and destroyed the lives of Native Americans, and yet
their culture remained principled with a high level of respect and honor. This is shown in a meeting
that was held by the six nations of the Iroquois, where Chief Red Jacket gave a speech on the Native
Americans view on missionary stations that the Europeans wanted to set up. Red Jacket explained
their past with the first settlers, We gave them corn and meat; they gave us poison in return (1). These
first Europeans set the tone for how these new colonist treated the natives. They took what they
wanted and left a trail of death and destruction in their path. However, the natives acted in return with
upstanding respect and treated these missionaries

Latina Women In American Films
Latina women have had roles in films since the silence era in the 1920s. However, their representation
and characteristics have constantly changed. Latina actresses originally portrayed characters that
simply fulfilled general and negative stereotypes about their ethnicity and culture. But during the Latin
Wave of the 1990s, Latina/o performers musicians, actors/actresses, dancers, etc. received more
prominent attention in American culture. Due to this newfound popularity, the status of the Latin
American woman evolved in the United States and Latina actress got to play more fulfilling parts. In
contemporary American films where a Latina woman is the protagonist, topics that have been
broached include the usage of Spanish, body types, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even though Latino/a actors and actresses have had increased participation in films over the decades,
majority of the films they were in devalued their culture. Italian actor Rudolph Valentino was one of
the first known Latin Lovers, which was a stereotype that all Latinos were incredibly passionate and
great in bed. Another film stereotype were Latino/a s portraying bad guys/thugs, which was to
insinuate that Latinos were cholos (a lower class Latin American who is in a gang) and could not be
civilized. Such films that portrayed Latinos as such were the 1979 film Boulevard Nights, which is
about a neighborhood gang war, and the 1988 film Stand and Deliver, which is about a high school
calculus teacher who tries to get the Latino students who are prone to dropout to do their homework.
Stereotypes involving Latina women were that they were either very sexual, the silent maid, or had a
spicy attitude. 2 It wasn t until the 1990s that there was genuine progress in representing different
aspects of Latino/a culture and people in films. The 1990s witnessed as a continuation of New
Hollywood shifts that amounted to increasing interest in casting and promoting a handful of African
American and Latina/o actors and potential stars. 3 Latina performers and actresses in particular were

Argumentative Essay About Grand Canyon
Imagine the beauty of a crystal stream as it flows through the umber twists of a sandstone valley. Birds
sing as the sun shines upon the rock layers, a sneak peek into the landscape of ages past. Now imagine
the same view, but the birds are gone; scared away by the sound of a nearby construction site. The
stream is now toxic from the sewers that drain into it. The timeless rock layers are harvested by
tourists who want to take a piece of nature home with them to collect dust on their mantel. Without
proper funding, our nation s beautiful Grand Canyon would be reduced to nothing more than a
glorified pile of rubble. In the last 15 years, Congress has reduced funding for our country s national
parks, monuments, and memorials by 15 percent (Bilmes and Loomis). This is a minimization from
the already strained $3 million budget for an asset valued at $92,000 (Bilmes and Loomis). The fact
that our nation is willing to allow ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Parks are crumbling, with pothole
pocked roads and outdated visitors centers (Egan and Egan). In
addition, due to a lack of funds, there is not enough money to purchase private properties within
parks...to prevent development by private buyers (Bilmes and Loomis). Steadily, Americans will lose
these treasured lands and their artifacts. What is now preserved for a glimpse into the past, will soon
be ravaged by wholesale oil and gas development if no more funds are provided (Thompson). If
Americans wish for their posterity to witness these natural doorways to the past, if Americans wish for
the future to not forget the wonders of the past, then a boost in funding is imperative. The conservation
of ancient artifacts and civilizations is a vital job of the National Park Service, but it is impossible to
expect the service to complete its work when given only limited, insufficient

Natchez Trace Research Paper
We had a fast trip down to Mississippi to visit with Dad Kay. With all the storms blowing through, we
managed to evade them all thankfully. We did have sunny skies on Friday Monday. And the little
Miata just hummed along. We took the top down Friday after we left Hopkinsville KY. Getting off the
Pennyrile Pkwy and onto I 24 for a bit, traffic became quite heavy heading into Nashville, so we got
off the interstate and cut across the countryside to the far edge of Nashville. Once on the southwest
side of Nashville and the beginning of the Natchez Trace Parkway we stopped at the infamous
Loveless Cafe before driving the Natchez Trace. We thought we d just sit down, have a meal and drive
on.....uh no, 1 1/2 hr wait, the place was packed with people there to eat smoked BBQ sandwiches. In
the next building over, they sold sandwiches to go, so that is what we did, sort of. We found some
chairs outside in the shade, ate our meal. The Natchez Trace is a destination drive within itself,
maintained by the National Park Service, it is a beautiful drive with lots of places to pull off, hike, see
waterfalls, vistas, etc.....none of which we did : ) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Iran-Contra Affairs Case Study
The N.S.C. staff was already engaged in covert operations with the contras when, in the summer of
1985, the Government of Israel proposed that missiles be sold to Iran in return for the release of seven
American hostages held in Lebanon and the prospect of improved relations with Iran. The Secretaries
of State and Defense repeatedly opposed such sales to a Government designated by the United States
as a supporter of international terrorism. They called it a straight arms for hostages deal that was
contrary to U.S. public policy. They also argued that these sales would violate the Arms Export
Control Act, as well as the U.S. arms embargo against Iran. The embargo had been imposed after the
taking of hostages at the U.S. Embassy in Tehran on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
North was placed in charge of finding a way to aid the contras, but was not authorized to start a covert
operation. Because of the Executive Order and National Security Decision Directive, any cover
operations were required to be approved by the President personally and in writing. This requirement
was not fulfilled and, moreover, Congress was not informed of it. In addition to the contra operation,
when the Iranian operation began, North was put in charge of both operations. This allowed North to
secretly divert profits from the Iranian arms sale to fund the contras. Even when it looked doubtful
that all the hostages would ever be released, North believed that the prospect of generating funds for
the contras was an attractive incentive for continuing the arms

Std Chlamydia Research Paper
Sexually transmitted diseases is really important and everyone should know that status. After reading
this chapter it really open my eyes statically. I was disbelief about how common many sexually
transmitted diseases is. Sexually disease infections is passed through sexual contact. Chlamydia, ,
Gonorrhea, Syphilis, Genital Warts, Genital Herpes, Acquired Immune Deficiencey. Many of these
disease can be transmitted during vaginal, oral, or anal sexual contact with an infected partner.
Bacterial STD Chlamydia is a STD that is found in many young people. Juvenile that was in detention

with disease. I agree to target certain groups to help decrease this disease, because this is a serious
STD even though all of them are this one seem to have the most problems. The viral STDs genital
warts, genital herpes and AID/HIV are not curable. In U.S 25% of women between 20 and 29 years of
age, and 10% of women over 30 have HPV. Genitals warts is caused by HPV. Genital Herpes and STD
that is caused by herpes simplex virus. This is painful blisters on the genital. In the U.S 21% adults
have this viruses. That like 45 million people. This all just realistically made me open my eyes and see
how many people are affected and to take every precaution I can to be safe. Acquired Immune
Deficiency Syndrome is the worst kind of STD you can have. This is cause by HIV. This weakens the
immune system. This the body cannot fight off other infections. From this date 25 million people died
from this disease and more than 40 million people still live with it. Which is 80%

Airway Assesment Of The Difficult Airway Before Manipulation
CHAPTER III
AIRWAY ASSESMENT IN TRAUMA PATIENTS Identification of the difficult airway before
manipulation is the Holy Grail of clinical management. It is the first step in preparing for patient care.
Selection of airway devices, techniques, and procedures all pivot on airway evaluation (Carin, 2008).
Preoperative examination of the airway is essential. Identification of patients with a potentially
difficult airway before anesthesia allows time to plan an appropriate anesthetic technique. Previous
anesthetic records should always be consulted. However, a past record of normal tracheal intubation is
no guarantee against difficulty on subsequent occasions as airway anatomy can be altered as in trauma
affecting the airway. The presence of stridor or hoarse voice is warning sign for the anesthetist. As it is
impossible to identify all patients with a difficult airway during preoperative assessment, the
anesthetist must be prepared to manage the unexpected difficult laryngoscopy (Alan et al,. 2001).
 Historical Indicators of Airway Difficulty: The intent of obtaining an airway history is to elicit
previously known factors indicating that airway management has been (and likely will be) difficult.
Any patient who is awake and capable of coherent conversation should be asked about prior intubation
and ventilation successes or failures. Some patients possess a Medic Alert bracelet indicating a history
of difficult intubation or ventilation and this can be useful in obtunded

and the second independent variable is religion. Both of this information will be determined by self
report on a questionnaire. The ethnicity of the individual will be identified based on the selection that

Terrace House Fire Essay
Following the tragic event of the great fire of London in 1666, the legislation regarding new buildings
in the metropolis became stricter and several laws and measures addressed fire prevention issues.
Many of these guidelines were changed several times over the years following various building acts.
Apart from the obvious benefits on fire protection, the legislation formed to a large extent the
streetscapes and vistas in the neighbourhoods of the capital and other cities in the 18th and 19th
centuries onwards. Building acts and by laws did not just deal with structural issues; on the contrary
they were often mostly focused on health and sanitation issues that were vital in the Victorian period.
Ensuring more available free spaces, decent living conditions, constructions of good quality,
ventilation and natural lighting were very significant issues that were not considered as given at the
time. Features that appear to be typical for terrace houses came as a result of different chapters in
building acts and also appear for the two case studies we will be examining in the next chapters. In

Pre-Damascus Event Response
NT2200 Week Two Pre Damascus Event Response
Zeal is a technical term for a particular approach to God and a specific attitude toward those who
dishonored him. Zeal and persecution went hand in hand (Capes, Reeves, Richards, 2007, p. 83). Zeal,
as Paul uses it in his pre Christ days, was emphasized in Gal. 1:14 where Paul puts emphasis on what
he had done and after meeting Christ, his emphasis was on Christ and what Christ had done.
Before Christ, Paul was a persecutor of Jews who followed Jesus. Zeal was the driving force behind
Paul s aggression to protect the covenant by punishing the disobedient so the path to Israel s glorious
future could be realized and the covenantal blessings restored (Capes, Reeves, Richards, 2007, p. 85).

Vernon McGee, Saul s conversion to Paul, a believer in Christ, was not just an experience for that
moment, but a life changing experience that continued for Paul s lifetime. He now lives for Christ. His
priorities and what he valued before Christ were no longer precious to him or foremost in his thinking.
It was all trash now. It was dung and McGee goes further to say Paul does convert from Judaism to
Christianity.
As a matter of fact, J. Vernon McGee writes in his commentary, He (Paul) flushes his religion down
the drain (McGee, 2008, p. 1). His perspective is quite different from the understanding that I received
from our textbook. Although, Capes, Reeves, Richards (2007) do write, Traditionally, the dramatic
change in Paul s life is seen as a conversion from Judaism p. 90; it is a modern day Westernized
perspective. This point of view is challenged by other scholars who believe Paul does not trash or
totally denounce Judaism or his Jewishness.
However, Apostle Paul writes in his letter to the Philippians that his heart s desire, his zeal now is to
know Him (Christ) and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made
conformable unto his death; (Php 3:10 KJV). Paul uses some very strong language in describing what
he was like before Christ and how he has been transformed into the image of Christ. His zeal is no

Freestanding Malls
I know that someone has used Freestanding sites (pg 185), but I will use that along with Enclosed
shopping malls (pg. 191) for comparing and contrasting. The company that I work for tends to scope
out available spaces to grow the company. They aren t particularly picky in the choices that they make
if they believe that the store will make them money. They want to be able to be diverse in their
locations and experience the best of both worlds. We have locations that come in all different shapes
and sizes. The most frequent being freestanding sites and also ones that are enclosed in malls. Not alot
of places down here have attractions inside of malls and I m not exactly sure how it looks up north. It
s interesting though because the foot traffic that comes along with the stores based in malls is
amazing. You can attract customers who weren t even planning to come to the store, but they come in
to check it out and end up spending money. In a sense, the customers are planned for but that on top of
loyal customers is really great. Our freestanding stores do well on their own too. Only difference is
that they depend on their loyal customers. The random foot traffic ... Show more content on

attraction, we could either not be getting the business that we want because people don t realize to

George Whitefield Religion And Slavery
Many atrocious things were in motion during the 1700s in the New World. The English colonies of the
New World had an economy based on African slaves. English colonies had the biggest influx of
Africans. Not only were Africans effected by slavery, but so were many of the English settlers
themselves. Religion conflicted with the practice of slavery, which caused the colonists to in a sense
awaken and form new explicit opinions about religion. This caused previous conveyers of religion to
judge the new ways colonists were thinking about and acting out religion. This awakening in religion
was preached by many preachers. At the forefront of the movement was one such preacher known as
George Whitfield. Many other people during George ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

But further, if teaching slaves Christianity has such a bad influence upon their lives, why are you
desirous of having your children taught? Think you, they are any way better by nature than the poor
negroes? No, in no ways. Blacks are just as much, and no more, conceived and born in sin, as white
men are: both, if born and bred up here, I am persuaded are naturally capable of the same
improvement. (Whitefield, 4) In this quote Whitefield questions that if Christianity has such a bad
influence on the slaves, then why are colonists so eager to teach it to their offspring. George
Whitefield states that blacks are no more born into sin then white men. He believes that both races sin
equally.
George Whitefield played a massive role in the Great Awakening. He was an English minister that
used the local revivals of Edwards and the Tennants to create a Great Awakening within himself.
Whitefield then traveled across the Atlantic Ocean to spread his message to the English colonists.

The Concert Is Berlioz s Symphonie Fantastique
The concert is Berlioz s Symphonie Fantastique, performed by The Chicago Symphony Orchestra,
conducted by Stéphane Denève, recorded in high definition at Orchestra Hall in December 2013.
Symphonie Fantastique composed in 1845, by Hector Berlioz (1803 1869), is a program symphony; a
five movement orchestral work that tells the story described by the CSO (2013) as a purely musical
melodrama , a colorful illustration of the life of an artist, replete with unrequited love, witches,
guillotines and colorful, opium induced hallucinations . Its composer, Hector Berlioz at the age of
twenty seven wrote Symphonie Fantastique both to explore German Romanticism and to give his
hometown of Paris a symphony of its own; something not yet native to this city of operas and ballets
(CSO, 2013). Berlioz s symphonic back ground in the operatic overture alludes to his program notes
presented as the spoken text of an opera . The memorable dramatic flair of Symphonie Fantastique is
understood to be one of the most well known pieces of program music in his repertoire and is
suggested that the story is a self portrait of its composer, Hector Berlioz. Innovative the time, Berlioz
devised a program to be given out to audience members at the performances stating it is indispensable
for a complete understanding of the dramatic outline of the work. Berlioz s outlines the story in the
preface of the program for his Symphonie Fantastique (1830):

Janie s Motif
Journal 3
In the novel, Their Eyes Were Watching God, by Zora Neale Hurston, Janie creates an idea of real love
during her sexual awakening. Her idea of real love centers around two people working together,
loving each other, and being happy in marriage. This idea drives Janie to search for this love. In the
process of her search, Janie encounters relationships that are abusive and oppressive. These
relationships allow her to understand what real love is in contrast from mislove. Moreover, Janie
becomes more independent in the midst of a male dominated society and learns to embrace her
sexuality despite society s idea of how women should behave. Hurston constructs Janie s character arc
through the use of motifs. Hurston uses the motif of bees, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During her relationship with Logan Killicks, Janie never mentions bees or trees during her interactions
with Logan. In fact, the only time she refers to bees or trees is when she complains about the union.
The absence of the motif during their relationship emphasizes that Janie did not benefit from her
marriage with Logan. This is the first occurence of mislove in Janie s life. The second occurence of
mislove appears during Janie s relationship with Joe. Joe did not represent the sun up and pollen and
blooming trees, (29) foreshadowing that Janie would not find her true love in this relationship. Indeed,
she enters an oppressive marriage with Joe. Joe order[es] Janie to tie up her hair (55) and cover it with
a rag because her hair attracts men and he want[s] her submission (71). He suppresses her sexuality
and strips her of her independence. Consequently, [s]he had no more blossomy openings dusting
pollen over her man. (72). Janie finally realizes that her marriage with Joe is not real love, rather, it is
mislove. Real love means that both partners benefit, but [s]he got nothing from Jody except what
money could buy (77). This experience with Jody causes Janie to understand the difference between
real love and mislove. She also understands that her sexuality and autonomy is significant to her.
When Jody dies, Janie embraces her independence and sexuality, letting her hair in one thick braid [to
swing] well below her waist. (89). Her experiences with mislove does not destroy her. Instead, it
allows her to become more independent and

The Separation Of The Churches Of Eastern Orthodox And The...
What actually led to the separation of the churches of Eastern Orthodox and the Roman Catholic?
What are the many differences between these two churches? While there are very few similarities in
these two churches: the Roman Catholic church and the Eastern Orthodox church, there are mostly
differences; however, taking a closer look at the split in 1054 will help determine this and will give
insight as to just what those similarities and differences are, how they came about, and what may have
caused the spilt to happen. So what actually led to the split? Between the two churches there were
several disputes that had to do with theological and political differences. For example, the Investiture
Conflict, a clash that started between Pope Gregory VII (1073 85) and Emperor Henry IV (1084 1105)
over the investment of bishops with the symbols of their office. Who held what office and ruled over
whom, was the major dispute. The Roman Catholic pope claimed he held authority over all. In the
year 1054 everything was split from the stand points of theological and hierarchical structures and it
has not been the same since.
To begin, when it came to the theological similarities and differences there were definitely more
differences. First, the only similarity was the leadership that each one had. They had disputes over
everything else. Second, the church and the leaders in the Eastern Orthodox Church believed that all
popes were equal and there was no real focus or

Shostakovich Essay
The symphony is a large and complex musical piece that has the potential to express a wide breadth of
experiences and emotions. While the symphony was developed intensely in the eighteenth century in
Vienna, the tradition of symphony has long since spread to other countries, providing the composers
of different nationalities the opportunity to introduce their own colors into the symphony.
Consequently, as different countries develop musical characteristics in the symphony to create their
own symphonic tradition, these symphonies can be seen as an expression of national identity. Whether
voluntarily or involuntarily, the circumstances surrounding the works and the composers intentions for
their work have a profound impact on the relationship between a symphony and the national identity it
expresses. Some symphonic composers, limited by the rules set forth by the government, were forced
to compose symphonies that strongly expressed the identity of a nation. An example of such a
composer is Dmitri Shostakovich. A Russian composer in a time when the Soviet Union controlled all
aspects of life, as well as music, Shostakovich was once criticized for some of his works for not
adhering to the expectations of the government. Shostakovich s opera The Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk
District and his ballet The Limpid Stream were both denounced, which placed great pressure on
Shostakovich because such denunciation could lead to violent consequences (Taruskin 22). As a result,

that there are people who want people under the age of twenty one drinking. The important question
is: should the drinking age be lowered to eighteen instead of remaining at twenty one? The legal
drinking age is the age at which a person can consume or purchase alcohol. These laws cover a wide
range of issues and behaviors, addressing when and where alcohol can be consumed. The National
Minimum Drinking Age Act was passed by Congress 30 years ago. This law told states that they had
to enforce the drinking age of 21 or lose up to ten percent of their federal highway funding. The idea
that a person was fully an adult at age 21 relates to an English common law. 21 was the age where a
person could vote and become a knight. If a person was 21, they could drink then, too. Franklin
Roosevelt approved lowering the minimum age for the military draft from 21 to 18 during World War
II. Organizations like Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) began pushing for the national
drinking age to be set at 21. They thought it would keep alcohol out of the hands of 18 year olds who
they felt were less mature. As a result, President Reagan signed the National Minimum Drinking Age
Act of 1984 to set the age at 21. Legislation concerning the legal minimum drinking age in the United
States can be

American Civil Liberties Union Case Study
The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) is a not for profit organization whose specified mission
is to defend and preserve the individual rights and liberties guaranteed to every person in this country
by the Constitution and laws of the United States. The ACLU operates under two separate associated
nonprofit organizations: (one) as a social welfare group under the American Civil Liberties Union, and
(two) as public philanthropy under the ACLU Foundation. Under the current leadership of Susan H.
Herman, the ACLU continues to deliver on its mission to protect the American values and the Bill of
Rights for all under the creation of new measures and a new era for all children, woman, and man.

Thus, the organization started focusing on issues including freedom of speech of striking workers and
artists. The organization s scope included racism and discrimination, supporting and partnership with
the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). Moreover, the ACLU
lobbies for policy opposing the death penalty; the right of LGBT people to adopt; the right to birth
control and abortion; supporting discrimination against minorities, the rights of prisoners, and freedom
of religion opposing government preferences in particular faiths. Throughout history, the ACLU has
focused on preserving the American s rights and liberties stated by the Constitution and laws of the
United States, working with courts, legislation, and communities. I have chosen the American Civil
Liberties Union to analyze how it works to extend the guaranteed rights to citizens to minority groups
that have traditionally been subject to discrimination. This research will outline the theoretical
framework and will analyze the ACLU work at the forefront of protecting freedom of speech,
religious liberty, and women s right. Also, this paper will focus on what level of government does the
group primarily operate and evaluating which type of lobbying tactics and electoral lobbying the
group use. Ultimately, in the final section of this research paper, I will discuss

Theories Of Cultural Criminology
Considered the new criminology , the cultural and anarchic criminological theory explains how
globalization has led to cultural homogeneity. It is a distinct speculative, procedural, and
interventionist approach to the study of crime that places criminality and its control directly in the
context of culture; that is, it observes crime and the agencies and institutions of crime control as
cultural products or as creative constructs. So, they must be read in terms of the meanings they carry.
The focus of the field is extensive, including situated and symbolic significance; fabricated social
identity; subcultural study; space, place, and cultural geography; the continuing transformations and
fluctuations associated with hypercapitalism; variations of power, resistance, and state control;
existentialism and theories of risk, edgework, and personified practice. In all this, cultural criminology
attempts to familiarize criminology to contemporary social and cultural changes and thus to imagine a
postmodern or late modern theory of crime and control. In this regard, cultural criminology is
involved in how individuals attempt to resolve certain internal spiritual and emotional conflicts that
are themselves generated by the paradoxes and particularities of modern day life. Put otherwise,
cultural criminology seeks to combine a phenomenology of modern crime with a sociocultural
analysis of late modern culture (Hayward 2004, p. 9, cited under Markets, Consumption, and Crime).

Stroke Effect
One of the more common side effects after suffering a stroke is difficulty with speech. This can be
very frustrating for the stroke victim and can make recovery all that much difficult. Speech therapy is
an essential part of stroke rehab. It offers the patient the ability to recover the ability to communicate.
How Does Stroke Affect Speech Speech is not a simple process when it comes to brain functions. A
person has to think about what he or she wants to say. Then, those thoughts must be translated into
words. Then the brain must command the mouth and throat to form those words and transmit sound.
Understanding what someone is saying is just as complicated. The brain must capture the soundwaves
that the ears capture. Then, the brain must ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When it comes to physical motion, each side of the brain controls what is happening on the other side.
That means the right side of the brain controls the left side of the body, and the left side of the brain
controls the right side of the body. However, each side of the brain has additional functions besides
controlling motion. The left side of the brain is normally tasked with controlling speech and
understanding language. So, if a stroke affects the left side of the brain, it is possible for it to affect
that person s ability to speak or to understand what is being said. This is part of a condition known as
aphasia. Aphasia can cause problems with speaking, listening, reading, writing, understanding speech,
and thinking of words when speaking or writing. The exact symptoms involved with a particular
patient depends on the type and severity of the injury to the brain. It affects about 20 percent of stroke
patients. How Does Speech Therapy Improve Aphasia The most common treatment for aphasia is
treatment with a speech language therapist. The therapist works to identify the exact issues the patient
is having and to develop a plan on how to improve and manage those issues. The therapist can help
the patient use his or her remaining abilities to the fullest, to restore language abilities where possible,
to work around remaining language problems, and to learn other ways to get the message

Ghiberti s Gates Of Paradise Analysis
Panel number 4 of Ghiberti s Gates of Paradise on the Baptistery de San Giovanni depicts Abraham
and Isaac. On this panel the story of Abraham and Isaac is told. As is seen by just glancing at the
panel, there seems to be a man up on a mountain, about to strike down on a man who is bent over on
his knees. There is also an angel right above them. Below the mountain, there are two men having a
conversation in a lounged position, and one of their donkeys is standing nearby. On the other side,
there seems to be a man begging three more angels for something. Off in the distance behind that man
is a woman emerging from a tent. There are also lots of trees on the left side, opposite of the
mountain. The men having a conversation are sitting next to a bush and what seems to be some sort of
water source, that is coming from a small cave in the mountain. There is a type of basket at the feet of
the tree angels, and there is a table outside the tent from which the woman is emerging.
I think that the story on this panel begins with the man standing on top of the mountain. He is
Abraham, and he is beating Isaac. An angel is coming to stop him from striking down on him. The
man on the bottom left begging the angels for something seems as though it might be the same man
who is standing up on the mountain(simultaneous presentation). Abraham was about to kill his son,
but on the bottom left, it shows him begging the angels to forgive him and help him. The woman on
the left is

Carp Maggots Research Paper
Winter Carp Baits
Carp Baits in Winter
Well it doesn t seem five minutes since I last penned an article for carp.com bathed in the warm
autumn sun, yet here I am sat on a cold winter s night underneath my Nash Viper Bivvy with a bright
moonlit sky above me.
With thousands of stars apparent to even my poor eyesight, I can tell site its going to be a cold one and
considering I am the only one here it looks like most anglers have already given up this year. To be
honest that s plain daft as although you won t catch as many carp in the winter as you do in summer
they are catch able all year round. Look at the likes of Dave Lane, Ian Chillcott and Jim Shelley; even
on the hardest understocked waters they can winkle em out and so can you. ... Show more content on

Maggots have a huge advantage over boilies and the like they move!! That little bit of movement
seems to inspire the carp into having a go. You can simply hook them onto a hook as you d do with
any bait or as I do you can thread them onto a piece of fine line and hair rig them on. This keeps them
very lively and allows you to have anything from six to sixty maggots at once. Tie the line to the hook
and away you go. If you have water filled of nuisance fish you may need to regularly recast. I tend to
fish a bunch of live maggots over sine scalding dead maggots and it works a treat. Don t be tempted to
put maggots in your mouth to warm them up before use a hook bait. Firstly it s a fail habit and
secondly the shock of the maggots going from the warm mouth to a cold lake will stop their
movement full stop.... Don t fall for that old wives tail.
Sweet corn it s very visual, has great attraction qualities and carp love it in cold. It s much better than
Maize and you can either hook it on or use it on a hair rig. I tend to use mine neat out of the cans but
soak in Nutabaits Sweet Cajouser favour is a definite winner. When fishing it try using it over
liquidised sweet corn. Lots of attraction but the only piece they can find to eat has a hook in it; deadly!
Worms as with maggots that bit of life can annoy or excite carp into having a go . Always use them on
the hook as a worm on a hair will tie it in knots and have you pulling your hair out. A brilliant stalking
bait especially when you can see the fish you are

Aligning IT with Business Strategy Essay
Is it smart for companies to invest heavily in information technology (IT)? Numerous studies indicate
that excessive IT spending will usually reduce company profits and slow productivity. According to an
article in the MIT Sloan Management Review, Avoiding the Alignment Trap in Information
Technology, IT can become a huge bottleneck to growth in companies if they focus on the wrong
remedies for their IT problems (Shpilberg, Berez, Puryear, Shah, 2007). The article first focuses on
Charles Schwab and its IT struggles during the early 2000 s. Then, it presents a study on 504
companies, and IT s effect on their revenue growth. Lastly, it covers the steps to ensure success in IT s
effectiveness. Charles Schwab is a Fortune 500 Company ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition, aligning each department to a different system or standard doesn t work because a
company needs all departments functioning at the same pace and every department must rely on each
other. The largest group (about 75% of surveyed companies) spent the average amount on IT, but
growth was slightly below average (Shpilberg et al., 2007). Companies in the The Maintenance Zone
have IT systems that are less aligned to business objectives and are, as a result, less effective as a
whole. The authors state that the group treats IT more like plumbing, bumping along until something
bad happens. However, since the group s deviation of IT spending and revenue growth from the
average is minimal, the article doesn t put much focus on the The Maintenance Zone. The next group,
experiencing Well Oiled IT, were more focused on execution and effectiveness at getting IT projects
up and running (on a budget). They spent 15% below average on IT, yet revenue growth was 11%
above average (Shpilberg et al., 2007). Although the group s revenue growth was above average, the
companies just didn t spend enough on IT to maximize their potential. More specifically, they didn t
spend enough to align the effective IT systems to their business objectives. The final group of
companies, in the IT Enabled Growth zone, experienced the upside of keeping IT highly aligned

unfair, and only served to further enrich an already wealthy class of merchants and stock jobbers at the

Shaken Infant Syndrome Essay
Shaken Infant Syndrome
Shaken Infant Syndrome (also known as Shaken Baby Syndrome, SBS) is a relatively new term in the
medical world. Simply put, it is the collective name of the symptoms produced when an infant is
shaken violently or has sustained some type of head trauma. Any type of trauma to the head or cranial
region results in some negative response to the body s homeostatic system, in an infant or child this is
especially true. An infant or child s skull is disproportionately larger than that of a fully developed
adult. This usually results in a higher susceptibility to head and neck injury.
To understand how SBS effects the human body s homeostatic system it must first be established what
happens to be diagnosed with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Extra axial hemorrhages indicate that these injuries occur outside the substance of the brain itself.
Other injuries that can occur are damage to the neck, spine, and possible retinal hemorrhages or
detachment.
Extradural, subdural, and subarachnoid hemorrhages are best understood by reviewing the anatomy of
the meninges. The meninges are divided into three layers: the dura mater, arachnoid layer, and pia
mater. The dura mater lines the inner surfaces of the skull and forms partial divisions in the cortex of
the brain. The dura mater is attached to the skull, particularly at the cranial sutures of the bones that
make up the skull. In infants and small children this attachment has not yet taken place. The space
between the skull and the dura mater is the extradural space. A hemorrhage into this space is referred
to as an extradural hemorrhage. These hemorrhages are usually the result of a tear in a meningeal
artery.
An extradural hemorrhage is more prevalent in small children because the dura mater lining has not
yet firmly attached itself to the junctures in the skull. When the head snaps back and forth the brain
will bounce off the skull. This causes bruising or tearing to the dura mater or the meningeal artery.
When the body recognizes that bruising has occurred the body s natural healing abilities take effect.
The first thing that the body will do will be to release histamines to increase to permeability of the

Social Media Communication And The Power Of Online...
In the world of technology communication has become easier than ever. The world has now shrunk
from a vast populated land to a network of communicating individuals living in a global village.
People from all over the globe have come closer together and distances have decreased to the extent
that an individual is merely a click away.
In this ever growing network of people a new theory has emerged, the idea of 6 degrees of separation.
The idea behind this is that between you and any another person in the world is only a chain no longer
than six people. This emphasizes the significance of online communication and the way it has made
the world a whole lot smaller.
This is the power of social media and the developments in online communication. A happening in one
part of the world reaches to the second part in a matter of seconds. Imagine if that news or happening
was about you. The significance of this technology is the ease it provides. Using this tool to your
advantage can give you a large number of benefits.
Social Media Marketing brings global fame to your name.
This is your ticket to international level fame. Your company or your name could be known
throughout the globe with millions of followers and fans. Millions of people can access these sites
where people come to communicate online and express their views. Once you step into the world of
the social media marketing all of these people become your potential prospects. Your services are

Analysis Of Dwight Eisenhower s Farewell Address
In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence,
whether sought or unsought, by the military industrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of
misplaced power exists and will persist. We must never let the weight of this combination endanger
their liberties or democratic processes (Dwight Eisenhower). These were the words of Dwight
Eisenhower, the 34th president of the United States, in his 1961 Farewell Address. These words were a
warning to Americans. Eisenhower was one of the greatest military minds America has ever known.
Leading America through World War II and Korea, and winning against all odds. He was a highly
respectable figure and highly intelligent. He used these skills to lead the American people into a
prosperous period. His warnings of the future were to be taken with the utmost urgency and fear. He
wanted to protect the American people from themselves. Eisenhower s farewell address was intended
to be both a synopsis of the period of his presidency, and a warning to future generations. His gravest
predictions were of the government themselves. He feared that one day the governments; state, local,
and federal; could attempt to infringe on their rights and freedoms. Eisenhower believed that the first
attempt that was already trying to dig in it s roots was the military industrial complex.
The military industrial complex was a term coined by Eisenhower in this speech. It has been defined
as the intrenching of the military into the government of a country. In this he feared that having a
perpetual military force, and even worse a constantly active military could infringe the rights of
Americans. How would this happen? Well, in America, there is not a strict democracy. America is a
representative democracy. This means that Americans do not vote for all of their decisions.
Switzerland is a true democracy. They vote in every election for everything. However, in America
citizens elect people to be in charge of their voting. Americans give up power to politicians so people
don t need to worry about laws and regulation. Because of this Americans allow them to have the keys
to their money, powers and the future of their nation. This is a great

  • 3. European Treatment Of Native Americans In The 1700s Europeans tore through America in the 1700s and destroyed the lives of Native Americans, and yet their culture remained principled with a high level of respect and honor. This is shown in a meeting that was held by the six nations of the Iroquois, where Chief Red Jacket gave a speech on the Native Americans view on missionary stations that the Europeans wanted to set up. Red Jacket explained their past with the first settlers, We gave them corn and meat; they gave us poison in return (1). These first Europeans set the tone for how these new colonist treated the natives. They took what they wanted and left a trail of death and destruction in their path. • 4. Latina Women In American Films Latina women have had roles in films since the silence era in the 1920s. However, their representation and characteristics have constantly changed. Latina actresses originally portrayed characters that simply fulfilled general and negative stereotypes about their ethnicity and culture. But during the Latin Wave of the 1990s, Latina/o performers musicians, actors/actresses, dancers, etc. received more prominent attention in American culture. Due to this newfound popularity, the status of the Latin American woman evolved in the United States and Latina actress got to play more fulfilling parts. Even though Latino/a actors and actresses have had increased participation in films over the decades, majority of the films they were in devalued their culture. Italian actor Rudolph Valentino was one of the first known Latin Lovers, which was a stereotype that all Latinos were incredibly passionate and great in bed. Another film stereotype were Latino/a s portraying bad guys/thugs, which was to insinuate that Latinos were cholos (a lower class Latin American who is in a gang) and could not be civilized. Such films that portrayed Latinos as such were the 1979 film Boulevard Nights, which is about a neighborhood gang war, and the 1988 film Stand and Deliver, which is about a high school calculus teacher who tries to get the Latino students who are prone to dropout to do their homework. Stereotypes involving Latina women were that they were either very sexual, the silent maid, or had a spicy attitude. 2 It wasn t until the 1990s that there was genuine progress in representing different aspects of Latino/a culture and people in films. The 1990s witnessed as a continuation of New Hollywood shifts that amounted to increasing interest in casting and promoting a handful of African American and Latina/o actors and potential stars. 3 Latina performers and actresses in particular were propelled into the ... • 5. Argumentative Essay About Grand Canyon Imagine the beauty of a crystal stream as it flows through the umber twists of a sandstone valley. Birds sing as the sun shines upon the rock layers, a sneak peek into the landscape of ages past. Now imagine the same view, but the birds are gone; scared away by the sound of a nearby construction site. The stream is now toxic from the sewers that drain into it. The timeless rock layers are harvested by tourists who want to take a piece of nature home with them to collect dust on their mantel. Without proper funding, our nation s beautiful Grand Canyon would be reduced to nothing more than a glorified pile of rubble. In the last 15 years, Congress has reduced funding for our country s national parks, monuments, and memorials by 15 percent (Bilmes and Loomis). This is a minimization from the already strained $3 million budget for an asset valued at $92,000 (Bilmes and Loomis). The fact that our nation is willing to allow ... Steadily, Americans will lose these treasured lands and their artifacts. What is now preserved for a glimpse into the past, will soon be ravaged by wholesale oil and gas development if no more funds are provided (Thompson). If Americans wish for their posterity to witness these natural doorways to the past, if Americans wish for the future to not forget the wonders of the past, then a boost in funding is imperative. The conservation of ancient artifacts and civilizations is a vital job of the National Park Service, but it is impossible to expect the service to complete its work when given only limited, insufficient ... • 7. Natchez Trace Research Paper We had a fast trip down to Mississippi to visit with Dad Kay. With all the storms blowing through, we managed to evade them all thankfully. We did have sunny skies on Friday Monday. And the little Miata just hummed along. We took the top down Friday after we left Hopkinsville KY. Getting off the Pennyrile Pkwy and onto I 24 for a bit, traffic became quite heavy heading into Nashville, so we got off the interstate and cut across the countryside to the far edge of Nashville. Once on the southwest side of Nashville and the beginning of the Natchez Trace Parkway we stopped at the infamous Loveless Cafe before driving the Natchez Trace. We thought we d just sit down, have a meal and drive on.....uh no, 1 1/2 hr wait, the place was packed with people there to eat smoked BBQ sandwiches. In the next building over, they sold sandwiches to go, so that is what we did, sort of. We found some chairs outside in the shade, ate our meal. Iran-Contra Affairs Case Study The N.S.C. staff was already engaged in covert operations with the contras when, in the summer of 1985, the Government of Israel proposed that missiles be sold to Iran in return for the release of seven American hostages held in Lebanon and the prospect of improved relations with Iran. The Secretaries of State and Defense repeatedly opposed such sales to a Government designated by the United States as a supporter of international terrorism. They called it a straight arms for hostages deal that was contrary to U.S. public policy. They also argued that these sales would violate the Arms Export Control Act, as well as the U.S. arms embargo against Iran. • 10. Airway Assesment Of The Difficult Airway Before Manipulation CHAPTER III AIRWAY ASSESMENT IN TRAUMA PATIENTS Identification of the difficult airway before manipulation is the Holy Grail of clinical management. It is the first step in preparing for patient care. Selection of airway devices, techniques, and procedures all pivot on airway evaluation (Carin, 2008). Preoperative examination of the airway is essential. Identification of patients with a potentially difficult airway before anesthesia allows time to plan an appropriate anesthetic technique. Previous anesthetic records should always be consulted. However, a past record of normal tracheal intubation is no guarantee against difficulty on subsequent occasions as airway anatomy can be altered as in trauma affecting the airway. The presence of stridor or hoarse voice is warning sign for the anesthetist. As it is impossible to identify all patients with a difficult airway during preoperative assessment, the anesthetist must be prepared to manage the unexpected difficult laryngoscopy (Alan et al,. 2001).  Historical Indicators of Airway Difficulty: The intent of obtaining an airway history is to elicit previously known factors indicating that airway management has been (and likely will be) difficult. Any patient who is awake and capable of coherent conversation should be asked about prior intubation and ventilation successes or failures. Some patients possess a Medic Alert bracelet indicating a history of difficult intubation or ventilation and this can be useful in obtunded ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Terrace House Fire Essay Following the tragic event of the great fire of London in 1666, the legislation regarding new buildings in the metropolis became stricter and several laws and measures addressed fire prevention issues. Many of these guidelines were changed several times over the years following various building acts. Apart from the obvious benefits on fire protection, the legislation formed to a large extent the streetscapes and vistas in the neighbourhoods of the capital and other cities in the 18th and 19th centuries onwards. Building acts and by laws did not just deal with structural issues; on the contrary they were often mostly focused on health and sanitation issues that were vital in the Victorian period. Ensuring more available free spaces, decent living conditions, constructions of good quality, ventilation and natural lighting were very significant issues that were not considered as given at the time. Zeal and persecution went hand in hand (Capes, Reeves, Richards, 2007, p. 83). Zeal, as Paul uses it in his pre Christ days, was emphasized in Gal. 1:14 where Paul puts emphasis on what he had done and after meeting Christ, his emphasis was on Christ and what Christ had done. Before Christ, Paul was a persecutor of Jews who followed Jesus. Zeal was the driving force behind Paul s aggression to protect the covenant by punishing the disobedient so the path to Israel s glorious future could be realized and the covenantal blessings restored (Capes, Reeves, Richards, 2007, p. 85). ... Vernon McGee, Saul s conversion to Paul, a believer in Christ, was not just an experience for that moment, but a life changing experience that continued for Paul s lifetime. He now lives for Christ. His priorities and what he valued before Christ were no longer precious to him or foremost in his thinking. It was all trash now. It was dung and McGee goes further to say Paul does convert from Judaism to Christianity. As a matter of fact, J. Vernon McGee writes in his commentary, He (Paul) flushes his religion down the drain (McGee, 2008, p. 1). His perspective is quite different from the understanding that I received from our textbook. Although, Capes, Reeves, Richards (2007) do write, Traditionally, the dramatic change in Paul s life is seen as a conversion from Judaism p. 90; it is a modern day Westernized perspective. This point of view is challenged by other scholars who believe Paul does not trash or totally denounce Judaism or his Jewishness. However, Apostle Paul writes in his letter to the Philippians that his heart s desire, his zeal now is to know Him (Christ) and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death; (Php 3:10 KJV). They want to be able to be diverse in their locations and experience the best of both worlds. We have locations that come in all different shapes and sizes. The most frequent being freestanding sites and also ones that are enclosed in malls. Not alot of places down here have attractions inside of malls and I m not exactly sure how it looks up north. It s interesting though because the foot traffic that comes along with the stores based in malls is amazing. You can attract customers who weren t even planning to come to the store, but they come in to check it out and end up spending money. English colonies had the biggest influx of Africans. Not only were Africans effected by slavery, but so were many of the English settlers themselves. Religion conflicted with the practice of slavery, which caused the colonists to in a sense awaken and form new explicit opinions about religion. This caused previous conveyers of religion to judge the new ways colonists were thinking about and acting out religion. This awakening in religion was preached by many preachers. At the forefront of the movement was one such preacher known as George Whitfield. Many other people during George ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But further, if teaching slaves Christianity has such a bad influence upon their lives, why are you desirous of having your children taught? Think you, they are any way better by nature than the poor negroes? No, in no ways. Blacks are just as much, and no more, conceived and born in sin, as white men are: both, if born and bred up here, I am persuaded are naturally capable of the same improvement. (Whitefield, 4) In this quote Whitefield questions that if Christianity has such a bad influence on the slaves, then why are colonists so eager to teach it to their offspring. George Whitefield states that blacks are no more born into sin then white men. He believes that both races sin equally. George Whitefield played a massive role in the Great Awakening. He was an English minister that used the local revivals of Edwards and the Tennants to create a Great Awakening within himself. Whitefield then traveled across the Atlantic Ocean to spread his message to the English colonists. When the colonists saw George Whitefield preach they would gather in large crowds. • 18. The Concert Is Berlioz s Symphonie Fantastique The concert is Berlioz s Symphonie Fantastique, performed by The Chicago Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Stéphane Denève, recorded in high definition at Orchestra Hall in December 2013. Symphonie Fantastique composed in 1845, by Hector Berlioz (1803 1869), is a program symphony; a five movement orchestral work that tells the story described by the CSO (2013) as a purely musical melodrama , a colorful illustration of the life of an artist, replete with unrequited love, witches, guillotines and colorful, opium induced hallucinations . Its composer, Hector Berlioz at the age of twenty seven wrote Symphonie Fantastique both to explore German Romanticism and to give his hometown of Paris a symphony of its own; something not yet native to this city of operas and ballets (CSO, 2013). Berlioz s symphonic back ground in the operatic overture alludes to his program notes presented as the spoken text of an opera . The memorable dramatic flair of Symphonie Fantastique is understood to be one of the most well known pieces of program music in his repertoire and is suggested that the story is a self portrait of its composer, Hector Berlioz. Innovative the time, Berlioz devised a program to be given out to audience members at the performances stating it is indispensable for a complete understanding of the dramatic outline of the work. Berlioz s outlines the story in the preface of the program for his Symphonie Fantastique (1830): A young musician of morbid sensitivity and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 19. Janie s Motif Journal 3 In the novel, Their Eyes Were Watching God, by Zora Neale Hurston, Janie creates an idea of real love during her sexual awakening. Her idea of real love centers around two people working together, loving each other, and being happy in marriage. This idea drives Janie to search for this love. In the process of her search, Janie encounters relationships that are abusive and oppressive. These relationships allow her to understand what real love is in contrast from mislove. Moreover, Janie becomes more independent in the midst of a male dominated society and learns to embrace her sexuality despite society s idea of how women should behave. Hurston constructs Janie s character arc through the use of motifs. Hurston uses the motif of bees, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During her relationship with Logan Killicks, Janie never mentions bees or trees during her interactions with Logan. In fact, the only time she refers to bees or trees is when she complains about the union. The absence of the motif during their relationship emphasizes that Janie did not benefit from her marriage with Logan. This is the first occurence of mislove in Janie s life. The second occurence of mislove appears during Janie s relationship with Joe. Joe did not represent the sun up and pollen and blooming trees, (29) foreshadowing that Janie would not find her true love in this relationship. Indeed, she enters an oppressive marriage with Joe. Joe order[es] Janie to tie up her hair (55) and cover it with a rag because her hair attracts men and he want[s] her submission (71). He suppresses her sexuality and strips her of her independence. Consequently, [s]he had no more blossomy openings dusting pollen over her man. (72). Janie finally realizes that her marriage with Joe is not real love, rather, it is mislove. Real love means that both partners benefit, but [s]he got nothing from Jody except what money could buy (77). This experience with Jody causes Janie to understand the difference between real love and mislove. She also understands that her sexuality and autonomy is significant to her. When Jody dies, Janie embraces her independence and sexuality, letting her hair in one thick braid [to swing] well below her waist. (89). Her experiences with mislove does not destroy her. • 20. The Separation Of The Churches Of Eastern Orthodox And The... What actually led to the separation of the churches of Eastern Orthodox and the Roman Catholic? What are the many differences between these two churches? While there are very few similarities in these two churches: the Roman Catholic church and the Eastern Orthodox church, there are mostly differences; however, taking a closer look at the split in 1054 will help determine this and will give insight as to just what those similarities and differences are, how they came about, and what may have caused the spilt to happen. So what actually led to the split? Between the two churches there were several disputes that had to do with theological and political differences. For example, the Investiture Conflict, a clash that started between Pope Gregory VII (1073 85) and Emperor Henry IV (1084 1105) over the investment of bishops with the symbols of their office. Who held what office and ruled over whom, was the major dispute. The Roman Catholic pope claimed he held authority over all. In the year 1054 everything was split from the stand points of theological and hierarchical structures and it has not been the same since. To begin, when it came to the theological similarities and differences there were definitely more differences. First, the only similarity was the leadership that each one had. They had disputes over everything else. Second, the church and the leaders in the Eastern Orthodox Church believed that all popes were equal and there was no real focus or ... • 21. Shostakovich Essay The symphony is a large and complex musical piece that has the potential to express a wide breadth of experiences and emotions. While the symphony was developed intensely in the eighteenth century in Vienna, the tradition of symphony has long since spread to other countries, providing the composers of different nationalities the opportunity to introduce their own colors into the symphony. Consequently, as different countries develop musical characteristics in the symphony to create their own symphonic tradition, these symphonies can be seen as an expression of national identity. Whether voluntarily or involuntarily, the circumstances surrounding the works and the composers intentions for their work have a profound impact on the relationship between a symphony and the national identity it expresses. Some symphonic composers, limited by the rules set forth by the government, were forced to compose symphonies that strongly expressed the identity of a nation. An example of such a composer is Dmitri Shostakovich. A Russian composer in a time when the Soviet Union controlled all aspects of life, as well as music, Shostakovich was once criticized for some of his works for not adhering to the expectations of the government. Shostakovich s opera The Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk District and his ballet The Limpid Stream were both denounced, which placed great pressure on Shostakovich because such denunciation could lead to violent consequences (Taruskin 22). • 22. The Minimum Drinking Age Act Some people find it hard to understand that at the age of eighteen you can fight and die for your country, but you cannot legally drink or purchase alcoholic beverages. Others find it hard to believe that there are people who want people under the age of twenty one drinking. The important question is: should the drinking age be lowered to eighteen instead of remaining at twenty one? The legal drinking age is the age at which a person can consume or purchase alcohol. These laws cover a wide range of issues and behaviors, addressing when and where alcohol can be consumed. The National Minimum Drinking Age Act was passed by Congress 30 years ago. This law told states that they had to enforce the drinking age of 21 or lose up to ten percent of their federal highway funding. The idea that a person was fully an adult at age 21 relates to an English common law. 21 was the age where a person could vote and become a knight. If a person was 21, they could drink then, too. Franklin Roosevelt approved lowering the minimum age for the military draft from 21 to 18 during World War II. Organizations like Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) began pushing for the national drinking age to be set at 21. They thought it would keep alcohol out of the hands of 18 year olds who they felt were less mature. As a result, President Reagan signed the National Minimum Drinking Age Act of 1984 to set the age at 21. Legislation concerning the legal minimum drinking age in the United States can be ... • 24. Theories Of Cultural Criminology Considered the new criminology , the cultural and anarchic criminological theory explains how globalization has led to cultural homogeneity. It is a distinct speculative, procedural, and interventionist approach to the study of crime that places criminality and its control directly in the context of culture; that is, it observes crime and the agencies and institutions of crime control as cultural products or as creative constructs. So, they must be read in terms of the meanings they carry. The focus of the field is extensive, including situated and symbolic significance; fabricated social identity; subcultural study; space, place, and cultural geography; the continuing transformations and fluctuations associated with hypercapitalism; variations of power, resistance, and state control; existentialism and theories of risk, edgework, and personified practice. In all this, cultural criminology attempts to familiarize criminology to contemporary social and cultural changes and thus to imagine a postmodern or late modern theory of crime and control. In this regard, cultural criminology is involved in how individuals attempt to resolve certain internal spiritual and emotional conflicts that are themselves generated by the paradoxes and particularities of modern day life. Put otherwise, cultural criminology seeks to combine a phenomenology of modern crime with a sociocultural analysis of late modern culture (Hayward 2004, p. 9, cited under Markets, Consumption, and Crime). ... This can be very frustrating for the stroke victim and can make recovery all that much difficult. Speech therapy is an essential part of stroke rehab. It offers the patient the ability to recover the ability to communicate. How Does Stroke Affect Speech Speech is not a simple process when it comes to brain functions. A person has to think about what he or she wants to say. Then, those thoughts must be translated into words. Then the brain must command the mouth and throat to form those words and transmit sound. Understanding what someone is saying is just as complicated. The brain must capture the soundwaves that the ears capture. Then, the brain must ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When it comes to physical motion, each side of the brain controls what is happening on the other side. That means the right side of the brain controls the left side of the body, and the left side of the brain controls the right side of the body. However, each side of the brain has additional functions besides controlling motion. The left side of the brain is normally tasked with controlling speech and understanding language. So, if a stroke affects the left side of the brain, it is possible for it to affect that person s ability to speak or to understand what is being said. This is part of a condition known as aphasia. Aphasia can cause problems with speaking, listening, reading, writing, understanding speech, and thinking of words when speaking or writing. The exact symptoms involved with a particular patient depends on the type and severity of the injury to the brain. It affects about 20 percent of stroke patients. How Does Speech Therapy Improve Aphasia The most common treatment for aphasia is treatment with a speech language therapist. The therapist works to identify the exact issues the patient is having and to develop a plan on how to improve and manage those issues. The therapist can help the patient use his or her remaining abilities to the fullest, to restore language abilities where possible, to work around remaining language problems, and to learn other ways to get the message ... • 26. Ghiberti s Gates Of Paradise Analysis Panel number 4 of Ghiberti s Gates of Paradise on the Baptistery de San Giovanni depicts Abraham and Isaac. On this panel the story of Abraham and Isaac is told. As is seen by just glancing at the panel, there seems to be a man up on a mountain, about to strike down on a man who is bent over on his knees. There is also an angel right above them. Below the mountain, there are two men having a conversation in a lounged position, and one of their donkeys is standing nearby. On the other side, there seems to be a man begging three more angels for something. Off in the distance behind that man is a woman emerging from a tent. There are also lots of trees on the left side, opposite of the mountain. The men having a conversation are sitting next to a bush and what seems to be some sort of water source, that is coming from a small cave in the mountain. There is a type of basket at the feet of the tree angels, and there is a table outside the tent from which the woman is emerging. I think that the story on this panel begins with the man standing on top of the mountain. He is Abraham, and he is beating Isaac. An angel is coming to stop him from striking down on him. The man on the bottom left begging the angels for something seems as though it might be the same man who is standing up on the mountain(simultaneous presentation). According to an article in the MIT Sloan Management Review, Avoiding the Alignment Trap in Information Technology, IT can become a huge bottleneck to growth in companies if they focus on the wrong remedies for their IT problems (Shpilberg, Berez, Puryear, Shah, 2007). The article first focuses on Charles Schwab and its IT struggles during the early 2000 s. Then, it presents a study on 504 companies, and IT s effect on their revenue growth. Companies in the The Maintenance Zone have IT systems that are less aligned to business objectives and are, as a result, less effective as a whole. Simply put, it is the collective name of the symptoms produced when an infant is shaken violently or has sustained some type of head trauma. Any type of trauma to the head or cranial region results in some negative response to the body s homeostatic system, in an infant or child this is especially true. An infant or child s skull is disproportionately larger than that of a fully developed adult. This usually results in a higher susceptibility to head and neck injury. Extra axial hemorrhages indicate that these injuries occur outside the substance of the brain itself. Other injuries that can occur are damage to the neck, spine, and possible retinal hemorrhages or detachment. Extradural, subdural, and subarachnoid hemorrhages are best understood by reviewing the anatomy of the meninges. The meninges are divided into three layers: the dura mater, arachnoid layer, and pia mater. The dura mater lines the inner surfaces of the skull and forms partial divisions in the cortex of the brain. The dura mater is attached to the skull, particularly at the cranial sutures of the bones that make up the skull. In infants and small children this attachment has not yet taken place. The space between the skull and the dura mater is the extradural space. A hemorrhage into this space is referred to as an extradural hemorrhage. These hemorrhages are usually the result of a tear in a meningeal artery. An extradural hemorrhage is more prevalent in small children because the dura mater lining has not yet firmly attached itself to the junctures in the skull. When the head snaps back and forth the brain will bounce off the skull. This causes bruising or tearing to the dura mater or the meningeal artery. • 32. Analysis Of Dwight Eisenhower s Farewell Address In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military industrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist. We must never let the weight of this combination endanger their liberties or democratic processes (Dwight Eisenhower). These were the words of Dwight Eisenhower, the 34th president of the United States, in his 1961 Farewell Address. These words were a warning to Americans. Eisenhower was one of the greatest military minds America has ever known. Leading America through World War II and Korea, and winning against all odds. He was a highly respectable figure and highly intelligent. He used these skills to lead the American people into a prosperous period. His warnings of the future were to be taken with the utmost urgency and fear. He wanted to protect the American people from themselves. Eisenhower s farewell address was intended to be both a synopsis of the period of his presidency, and a warning to future generations. His gravest predictions were of the government themselves. He feared that one day the governments; state, local, and federal; could attempt to infringe on their rights and freedoms. Eisenhower believed that the first attempt that was already trying to dig in it s roots was the military industrial complex. The military industrial complex was a term coined by Eisenhower in this speech. It has been defined as the intrenching of the military into the government of a country. In this he feared that having a perpetual military force, and even worse a constantly active military could infringe the rights of Americans. How would this happen? Well, in America, there is not a strict democracy. America is a representative democracy. This means that Americans do not vote for all of their decisions. Switzerland is a true democracy. They vote in every election for everything. However, in America citizens elect people to be in charge of their voting. Americans give up power to politicians so people don t need to worry about laws and regulation. Because of this Americans allow them to have the keys to their money, powers and the future of their nation. This is a great ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
