The Theme Of David Lurie s Disgrace
Mystery creates wonder and wonder is the basis of man s desire to understand. (Armstrong). This
famous quote by Neil Armstrong allows us to know what Melanie Issacs story is about. She strikes as
a mysterious, soft spoken woman with a mind that can tear a man apart. David Lurie, Melanie s
professor falls for her mystery and in fact, becomes borderline obsessed with his desire for her. In the
book Disgrace, Melanie s complex character not only drives the overall theme of disgrace forward, but
exemplifies how feelings of shame can be hidden and indirectly affect others. Melanie Issacs is a
blooming petite, soft spoken, and beautiful free spirited woman under David Lurie s tutelage at Cape
Technical University. During the novel, she is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
J.M Coetzee then describes his initial thoughts, What game is she playing? He should be wary, no
doubt about that. But he should have been wary from the start which shows that this is now more than
just a one time thing, she has come to his house asking for comfort, but even David is unsure. After
multiple attempts to figure out what it is that is bothering her, she consistently refuses and tells him
she will explain at a later time. This again shows her secretive side to David that she may be hiding
something, but his desire for her continues to be stronger than any worry he may have. Melanie s
feelings of shame and disgrace help to shape the direction of Disgrace, leading up to David feeling
disgrace because of his desire for her.
Throughout the novel Disgrace, Melanie Issacs and David Lurie have many encounters that provide
extensive detail on the feelings and events that occurred amongst themselves. David first notices
Melanie on his trip home through the university gardens and proceeds to invite her to his home for
wine and cheese. He then continues to pursue Melanie by acquiring her address and phone number
from the University s records. Early on in the novel it appears apparent how fascinated David becomes
of his young student in just the few encounters they have. Melanie remains passive and falls for his
sweet talk to become sexually engaged with him. During the first

Patrick s Day Narrative
I learned to speak Spanish at twelve when my parents threw me in a Mexican public school. I travel
on a sailboat with my family. I especially liked the candy wheelbarrows that men would roll around
town, filled with all sorts of goodies. I loved walking down the touristy beached infested with men and
women desperately calling for your attention in effort to sell you wool sarapes, woven bracelets and
straw sombreros to hide from the fervent sun.
We sailed down the coast of Mexico, discovering neon carnivals, steams filled with crocodiles and a
St . Patrick s Day festival, where a man ran into the crowd with lit fireworks exploding from his body.
When underway, I sit in the cockpit and draw or write fictional stories to keep myself entertained. ...

John Green, J.R.R. Tolkien and Cornelia Funke help me pass the hours by with their characters: funky
dwarves, awkward teenagers and silver tongued fathers. They inspire me to write my own fiction.
We didn t always travel in a sailboat. I was born in a small hospital in Montrose Colorado near the
Grand Mesa. At a very early age, my parents took me to nearby camp sites where we built campfires
to cook our fresh trout and hid in our tents to defend against the cold.
When on a constant move, I m home schooled by my parents, who teach me math, reading, physics
and biology, though it s not all paperwork. When in Saulita my family and I went to visit the nearby
beaches, where I learned to surf. The sexy, six packed instructor inspired me to do my best. Some of
my academic studies include photography, art and game design.
We stopped cruising for a year in American Samoa and my new friends at the high school I attended
welcomed me into the community. I met a young Filipino boy, who became my first boyfriend. I
introduced him to my hobby of geocaching, a form of Easter egg hunt where one uses a GPS to locate

The Is The Applications Of Computers, Software, And...
Bioinformatics is the applications of computers, software, and mathematical models to the
management of biological information from large data sets. It is the storage and analysis of biological
information by the use of computers. Computers are used to gather, store, analyze, and integrate
information that can then be applied to gene bases drug discovery and development. This has become
an essential part of biological research activity, and is rapidly becoming as ordinary in biosciences as
molecular biology has been since the 1980s. The science of Bioinformatics, which is the melding of
molecular biology with computer science, is essential to the use of genomic information in
understanding human diseases and in the identification of new molecular targets for drug discovery
(What is bioinformatics). The primary goal of bioinformatics is to increase the understanding of
biological processes. It is the determination of the sequence of the entire human genome
(approximately three billion base pairs) (What is bioinformatics). This is done so differently from
other approaches, however, due to its focus on developing and applying computationally intensive
techniques to achieve this goal. With bioinformatics, scientists can compare data from genetic material
of a variety of living things, from tiny bacteria to large organisms, such as humans (Bioinformatics,
2012). Bioinformatics has made it possible for scientists to be able to analyze genomes and their
functions.

However, shortly after McCarty completed of his new fishing boat, states along the Gulf of Mexico
banned purse seining. McCarty s career seemed over. However, the end of his fishing career led to the
development of his third career. Other fishermen who had seen McCarty s purse seining boat and had
been impressed with its fine construction approached him to build strong, highperformance vessels to
fit their unique needs. The demand for his boats continued to increase and, in 1985, McCarty founded
Silver Ships, named after the color of the aluminum used in the boats construction. The company
progressively outgrew three different rental locations and, in 1996, moved to its present Theodore,
Alabama, location. McCarty renamed his obsolete purse seining
boat Run Aground and used it for the sign for his new facility. A summary of company milestones is

that Silver Ships build boats for it. After a visit from the Ambar executives to Silver Ships original,

St Thomas Aquinas Unbelievers Essay
Both in the times of St. Thomas Aquinas and in our times, there are many other religions. To avoid an
everlasting war many chose to tolerate those of the different religions. The Catholic Church teaches
that it is the true Church and that salvation cannot be found outside of the Catholic Church
(Catechism). When St. Thomas Aquinas speaks of unbelievers he speaks of those who are not
Catholic. Unbelievers are very different from heretics. While the Church tends to treat unbelievers the
same as they have for many years, it no longer treats heretics in the way they once did. In this paper I
will discuss and analyze the thinking of St. Thomas Aquinas about unbelievers and heretics and I will
reflect upon and compare how those views fit into ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Belief must be of one s own will and through the conversion process converts find and struggle with
their will, they then accept their will, and they have the word of Christ within them once they are able
to receive the sacraments.
Aquinas explains how we must have unbelievers in our world for religion to work and continue to
grow. Catholics are all called to evangelize, and this helps others get to know God and his wonderous
deeds. God in a sense asks us to evangelize by allowing certain evils:
But God, although all powerful and supremely good, nonetheless allows some evils to take place in
the universe, evils that he could prevent, lest greater goods be lost if evils were removed, or lest
rightly tolerate certain evils let certain goods be prevented, or even worse evils incurred (Aquinas
193).
Evangelization is a useful tool in compelling others towards Christ. When we evangelize through
working we express how much our beliefs rely on both prayer and work. James 2:14 says, What does
it profit, my brethren, if a man says he has faith but has not works ? This passage from the Bible
shows us again that we are meant to go out and live our faith and evangelize through our deeds. God
allows different evils so that he can allow for these different goods, some of these goods can be
achieved through evangelization. Moments of working through our deeds

Fig. 3.3 Transmitter circuit
This circuit diagram shows how a 555 timer IC is configured to function as a basic monostable
multivibrator. A monostable multivibrator is a timing circuit that changes state once triggered, but
returns to its original state after a certain time delay. It got its name from the fact that only one of its
output states is stable. It is also known as a one shot .
In this circuit, a negative pulse applied at pin 2 triggers an internal flip flop that turns off pin 7 s
discharge transistor, allowing C1 to charge up through
R1. At the same time, the flip flop brings the output (pin 3) level to high . When capacitor C1 as
charged up to about 2/3 Vcc, the flip flop is triggered once again, this time making the pin 3 output
low and turning on pin 7 s discharge transistor, which discharges C1 to ground. This circuit, in effect,
produces a pulse at pin 3 whose width t is just the product of R1 and C1, i.e., t=R1C1.
IR Transmission circuit is used to generate the modulated 36 kHz IR signal. The IC555 in the
transmitter side is to generate 36 kHz square wave. Adjust the preset in the transmitter to get a 38 kHz

ABSTRACT:
Once the level within the dam surpasses certain level, the dam is at risk of collapsing. To avert this, we
ought to constantly monitor dam level to ensure that dam structure doesn t cave in underneath the
pressure from the water. A dam is really a barrier that impounds water or subterranean streams. The
primary water quality related parameters that should be supervised are Temperature, Turbidity and ph.
This paper describes the theoretical aspects associated with the work we re doing and also the
particulars concerning the illustration showing the automation of dam gates. Dams generally serve the
main reason for retaining water, while other structures for example floodgates or levees (also referred
to as dikes) are utilized to manage or prevent water flow and drainage into specific land regions. You
can do this by manipulating the ton gates when the level surpasses certain limits.

Compare And Contrast Han And Roman Attitude Towards...
DBQ on Han and Roman attitudes toward technology
The Han dynasty and Roman empire lasted through periods of enlightenment where new ideas and
concepts were brought up. Although in slightly different time periods, the Han and Romans both
experienced an influx of new technology that changed their ways of life. The Han s attitude toward
technology and labor was very open and optimistic. On the other hand, the Roman attitude towards
technology and labor was relatively more strict and they didn t really see technology as something
enlightened .
The Han Dynasty viewed technology as essential in various ways. Documents 1 and 2 show how
technology is an essential thing and that although it is great, government intervening must take place
to assure everything goes to plan. Document 1 mentions some organization and order that s needed to
make sure everything works, and document 2 mentions how the workers are using crude brittle tools
and need to get new tools that are in good condition so they can work more efficiently. Both of these
documents may have a slight bias considering both of them are written by Han government officials
and they might want to get higher positions and this may influence their writings. It was interesting
that in document ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There should be an additional document or two showing the viewpoints of the workers, it would only

because they are the ones actually working, while the upper class isn t. This new technology can be

Current Literature Regarding the History of Bullying Research
Adult bullying at work is shockingly common and very destructive. In an in depth analysis of 146
organizations worldwide, workplaces evidencing bullying on a relatively routine basis made up 44%
of the total analyzed. U.S. studies also suggest alarming prevalence rates. During any given 6 to 12
month period, up to 13 percent of workers are bullied on the job; this increases significantly when
counting those bullied anytime during their careers .These numbers translate to millions of workers:
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics 136 million Americans were employed in July 2008. An
estimated 55 million Americans have been bullied at work using the 33% rate. This paper reviews the

A decade later, the topic surfaced in England In 1991, a freelance journalist named Andrea Adams,
brought the issue to public attention in Britain through a series of BBC radio posts; she labeled the
phenomenon bullying. As a result of Adams work and public concern, interest in and the study of
bullying intensified in the U.K. Although Scandinavia and the U.K. continue to lead in this area,
bullying and mobbing research now includes, among others, scholars and professionals in Japan,
Australia, and Canada.
In the United States the history of adult bullying research has been less straightforward. U.S.
psychiatrist Carroll Brodsky conducted one of the first studies of workplace harassment and
subsequently published The Harassed Worker . Despite the groundbreaking nature of his work, the
book stirred little interest at the time. Brodsky s research was revived in the early 1990s when interest
surged in England. Around this same time, the study of human aggression expanded to include
aggression at work, research that was centrally concerned with perpetrators. In the early 1990s,
nursing professor, Helen Cox, began studying verbal abuse in medical settings when it appeared to be
driving away gifted nursing students. Around the same time rare but highly visible occurrences of
workplace murder sparked a massive amount of research that extended into the next two. In the late
1990s research with a district focus that

For this reason, the Prime Minister and his cabinet have to be from the dominant party or coalition in
the assembly. In the case where the President and the Assembly are from opposing parties, then a
situation known as cohabitation is created. Motions of censure are most of the time proposed by the
opposition following government actions that it considers highly inapt, they are purely rhetorical this
means that the party discipline should see to it that throughout a parliamentary term, the government is
never overthrown or given a motion of censure by the assembly (Constitution Declaration 2011).

Jean-Louis David and Jean-Jacques Rousseau Essay
Jean Louis David + Jean Jacques Rousseau
Question : In what ways and to what extent is an understanding of historical context important in
approaching the works of (a) David and (b) Rousseau?
The Lictors Returning to Brutus the Bodies of his Sons , is a painting by the French artist Jean Louis
David in 1789. Having led the fight which overthrew the monarchy and established the Roman
Republic. Brutus tragically saw his sons participate in a plot to restore the monarchy. As a judge, he
was called upon to render the verdict, and without hesitation condemned his two sons to death.

This was not an uncommon reaction towards David s art at the time. However, the painting was
restored to a place of honor by Baudelaire, who wrote :
This painting is David s masterpiece and one of the great curiosities of modern art because, by a
strange feat, it has nothing trivial or vile. What is most surprising in this very unusual visual poem is
that it was painted very quickly. When one thinks of the beauty of the lines, this quickness is
bewildering. This is food for the strong, the triumph of spiritualism.
David s artwork did not just involve the use of pretty colours. Many of his paintings beared powerfull
meanings, historically and politically. Culturally they had a huge impact on social activity during the
French Revolution. The story of Brutus was popular with educated sections of the French public
during the eighteenth century. Voltaire s play Brutus , was performed on stage from 1730. In
November 1790, the first two performances of a revival of Brutus at the National Theater in Paris took
place. At the second performance of the revival, a stage tableau of David s painting was acted out at
the moment when the death of Brutus son was announced.
Like his later Death of Marat , David s Brutus can be seen as a representation of a kind of political
heroism in which the best interests of society are put before those of the individual. His painting also
appeared at a time when a general dissatisfaction

In Cold Blood Quotes And Analysis
Title
There are a few symbols that serve a purpose throughout the novel. The novel is opened with Bigger
attempting to kill a rat that has entered his family s apartment. First, the rat allows the audience to see
the conditions the Thomas family lives in, which is crowded. Secondly, the rat symbolizes Bigger s
fear and anger towards his life. He tries to kill and get rid of the rat, just as he tries to suppress his
fears. Thirdly, Bigger, much like the rat is concerned and powerless. Bigger is powerless and forced to
take the job at the Dalton home. He is angry that he did not have any other alternative but the job as a
chauffeur. Bigger has now taken the responsibility of providing for his family, a responsibility he did
not want to partake in (Demiturk 1). Finally, the rat symbolizes the first death in the novel, and
essentially prepares the audience for the later killings (Tremaine 5). Another symbol is Bigger as a
Christ figure. Subsequently, Bigger is crucified by the white society while reaching a sense of
liberation (Butler, tone 4). Bigger feels relieved and experiences a feeling he had never felt before. He
felt as if he has found a purpose. Finally, one of the major symbols is blindness. The Daltons are blind
to their own motives, and only driven by guilt (Butler, tone 5). Mr. Dalton is blind in regards to the
financial and social frameworks in which he takes an interest. He has acquired his wealth not by
exhibiting great character, but rather abusing

Equity markets don t look to be very good for raising capital at the moment because of the current
situation with the economy at hand. However, opportunities such as ATA airlines closing down allow
for a potential low fixed cost entry when it comes towards purchasing aircraft. Having a whole fleet
up for potential sale could be a very attractive option for someone looking to enter the market when
compared towards purchasing all new equipment instead.
Older carriers still have their legacy and brand names however low cost alternatives provide
customers with better bargains. The biggest benefit the older carriers have is their hubs which are
already established. It is hard for a new entrant to come into the market and establish a hub when the
market is already oversaturated.
Power of Suppliers: The airline supply business is mainly dominated by Boeing and Airbus. For this
reason, there isn t a lot of cutthroat competition among suppliers. Also, the likelihood of a supplier
integrating vertically isn t very likely. In other words, you probably won t see suppliers starting to
offer flight service in addition to building air crafts.
Power of Buyers: Traditionally the customers belong to two main segments, business and leisure.
Business travelers often book flights at the last minute and have the backing of large organizations and
they are relatively

The Effect Of The Judgemental Nature Of Puritans In...
Junior Research Paper Society is made of many different types of people. Some people commit their
lives to the church, others commit their lives to helping others. No matter how different and noble
members of society may appear, they all have something in common: sin. Members of Puritan society
all have this in common, and therefore should be less critical of each other. The effect of the
judgemental nature of Puritans in Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Scarlet Letter is demonstrated by
recurring dark and light themes, representing restriction and freedom from judgement. Hawthorne s
use of the archetypal symbols of darkness and light suggests his view that the Puritan society was
excessively judgemental of their members and that all societies should be less critical. Hawthorne uses
the symbol of darkness to communicate his view of Puritan society and judgement. Hawthorne applies
darkness to the conventional Puritan citizens and to those who do not follow the societal rules to show
the effect that Puritan judgement has. Darkness archetypally represents evil, and when parallelled with
light in The Scarlet Letter also symbolizes restriction. The Puritan society has in place many
restrictions, one of which being strictly against adultery. These restrictions are enforced by characters
such as the town beadle, or officer. When Hester, the protagonist guilty of adultery is freed from jail, a
figure appears with her like a black shadow emerging into sunshine, the grim and grisly

Wernher Von Braun And The Human Exploration Of Space...
Wernher Von Braun was a hero for trying to develop technology for the human exploration of space.
Wernher Von Braun worked at NASA and on the V2 and tried to develop technology for the human
exploration of space. However, his work on the V2 in Germany in WWII reflected on him poorly.
Wernher Von Braun worked on the V2 and at NASA. However, he didn t want to create weapons and
only at NASA was he able to research technology for human space exploration. One very strong piece
of evidence for Wernher Von Braun trying work on technology for human space exploration was the
fact that he was jailed by the German government for a short time. The German officials suspected

Only knowing how to make ballistic missiles wouldn t work, the Saturn V was exponentially more
complicated than a ballistic missile. Later in his life, Von Braun was awarded the National Medal of
Science by president Ford. He also tried to help the public learn about and understand peaceful
spaceflight. He founded the National Space Institute in 1975. The purpose of this institute was to gain
public support and knowledge of spaceflight. All of this shows that Wernher Von Braun was dedicated
to researching technology for the peaceful exploration of spaceflight. His attempt in Germany and
work at NASA are the best examples of how dedicated he was to his work. He helped to create many
complex rockets. All of the rockets he created had a large effect on WWII and the space race.
Wernher Von Braun helped to create a lot of complex technology in his work in Germany and at
NASA that impacted WWII and the space race. Some examples of this technology are liquid fueled
plane takeoffs and landings. Of course, there is also the technology that had, and still has an extremely
large impact. Wernher Von Braun created the forerunner of all ballistic missiles, the A4. The missile
was later renamed Vengeance Weapon 2 by the propaganda minister of Germany. All later ballistic
missiles were based on the design of the V2. The V2 itself was a terrifying weapon. It killed 2000,
seriously injured 6000, and destroyed many buildings, and harmed infrastructure.

The Sniper s Journey In War
The snipers Journey in war was necessary to discovering that war pushes people to enforce brutality
and violence on themselves and those they fight against, having no opportunity to shine compassion
on one another. War kills innocent lives and tears apart families leaving only the feeling of hate, anger,
and grief. In war, soldiers are not meant to find peace or negotiation. The author portrayed the sniper
as someone wired to kill and destruct. On the field, there was only one target his enemy. In the short
story the other sniper was distinguished clearly as his enemy, which emphasized that he put his job
first before humanity, not even pondering as to who his opponent was, he had only wanted to kill. He
only then realized after killing he

Amy Chua s Why Chinese Mothers Are Superior Essay
Reading Amy Chua s Why Chinese Mothers Are Superior was a bit difficult. I had to stop myself from
having multiple outburst because of what she has wrote. Amy s argument that Chinese mothers are
better parents, is questionable because it assumes that other parents don t know who to raise their own
children. I believe my parents raised us just fine, my siblings and I pushing for degrees is proof
enough. Amy Chua was strict with her kids, believing that having fun and being a kid is a unnecessary
distraction. That s great kudos to her for keeping her kids focused but there is a flaw in that. Amy took
her kids freedom away. Her daughters weren t able to enjoy the simple things like going to a sleepover
or playing with friends. They didn t seem to have a choice when it came to academics either. In my
own experience I had a choice. I was able to peruse distractions or study and better myself. My
parents always told me I would either reap the rewards or suffer the consequences of my action in that
respect. They always supported me even if I chose an academic subject they didn t like. Amy can
argue that having a choice is a flaw but at least I have one. Amy can also argue that she has set her
kids up to succeed in life, but so have countless lesser western parents . Her method might be great but
to say that one race is better than another is borderline arrogant. She should never assume that because
she s making an ass out of her and me. I disagree with Chua s view that

The Diagology Of Proactive Motor Health Monitoring
Abstract Key words: Motor faults, vibration analysis, bearings, sensor fusion, Data acquisition,
condition monitoring Electrical pump is widely used in the oil gas production as an efficient and

95 percent of oil wells required artificial lift systems to pump the underground oil to the surface as the
wellbore pressure is too low (Schultz, Tibbetts et al. 2015). Among these systems, 20 25 percent

The God Of Nightmares By Paula Fox
I wonder how many of us regret losing our innocence. Do we remember the exact moment it
happened? To me, innocence is the lack of awareness of people being untrustworthy and bad. The
moment you realize that the world is not what you thought when you wore your rose colored glasses is
very sad. We may wish we could go back and erase what we know or attempt to get back what was
lost, but unfortunately that just cannot happen. God is an incorporeal being and the source of all moral
obligations. Losing our innocence is about experiences from the rebellion against God by ourselves or
others that cause our spirit to be broken or wounded. In, The God of Nightmares , by Paula Fox we
will analysis the loss of innocence and the world of faith destroyed, thus embodying the God of
nightmares. Faith is a belief, confidence or trust in a person, object, religion, idea or view. The story
opens with Helen s mother having faith that her husband, whom left over ten years earlier would
return to her and their daughter, Helen. She never moved on with her life, but maintained the home,
herself and Helen as if he was to return. Helen receives a letter from her father s girlfriend letting her
know that he is dead. The first moment in the book when faith is shattered and the reality of how
others are, comes to fruition. We might have known! My mother cried out, the note falling from her
hand as she dropped to her knees in front of a glass cabinet that held trophies cups, faded

Analysis Of Popular Mechanics By Raymond Carver
In Popular Mechanics by Raymond Carver a man begins packing his things in a suitcase on a rainy
day. His spouse barges into the room and begins to berate him. She moves to the dresser and picks up
a picture of their baby and leaves the room. The man follows they begin fighting about who gets the
baby. As the women holds tightly to the baby, the man backs her into the kitchen and begins grabbing
the child. They both have a tight hold on the child now and are pulling backwards. The story
concludes and it is implied that they have killed the baby. This story s theme of the selfish and
aggressive nature of humans is prevalent throughout the text.
Carvers use of diction sets an eerie and depressing mood. The beginning of the story describes ...

Creating a setting that is dark intensifies the mood of the story. Later in the story, the couple is
physically fighting over the baby: The baby was red faced and screaming (Carver). Having the vivid
image of a distressed baby makes the reader feel compassion for the child. The baby is stuck in the
middle of an argument between two adults and has no choice to leave. These examples of imagery
relate to the theme of selfishness and greed that can overpower a person.
Carver uses very few details in this story to make it more relatable to the reader. For instance, there are
no names given the the man, woman, or child in the story. The absence of this details lets the reader
put themselves in the shoes of the man, woman, or child while reading. There is an instance or
hesitation or uncertainty when the man leaves the bedroom: He fastened the suitcase, put on his coat,
looked around the bedroom before turning off the light (Carver). When the man looks back to the
room, his hesitation implies that he is unsure about what decision to make, but when he shuts off the
light, he is void of all feelings and has decided to fight. A similar situation happens to the woman in
this story: she wiped her eyes and stared at him before turning and going back to the living room
(Carver). When this woman looks at her spouse she is making sure that she wants to go through with
fighting, and when she looks away she is determined to win the fight. These few details make it clear
how selfish

Theme Of Love In Antigone
Joseph Keighley was a thirty year old father whose wife had been subjected to a terrible illness. He
loved her so much that he would perform any task she wished for him to do for her. however as time
passes, she had passed away and his devoted heart for her rendered him to not be with any woman
other than his wife. Love, a powerful word and action is often described to be something in which you
devote your feelings and emotion to something or someone with full intent, however Love in
Antigone, a tragic play, written by Sophocles reciprocates this idea in a completely new way. A theme
that Sophocles writes throughout Antigone could possibly be the idea of loyalty to the city versus
family, and he often grazes upon the origin on many of the themes, providing sufficient amount of
details that could be used to support them. However, a possible main occuring theme of Antigone is
that Love is unconquerable. This theme surfaces in many ways throughout the play, specifically, in the
idea of Love overpowering every aspect that the Greeks and Athenians believed to be impenetrable. In
the midst of the conflict between Creon and Haemon, Creon strongly dislikes and neglected Haemon s
point of view because he believes that he had been corrupted by a woman. Haemon is accused of
being held captive by Antigone and his love for her recognized [him as] the slave of a woman,
referring to the love that Antigone possesses, overpowering Haemon (Sophocles 769). Sophocles
intentionally adds a

  • 2. The Theme Of David Lurie s Disgrace Mystery creates wonder and wonder is the basis of man s desire to understand. (Armstrong). This famous quote by Neil Armstrong allows us to know what Melanie Issacs story is about. She strikes as a mysterious, soft spoken woman with a mind that can tear a man apart. David Lurie, Melanie s professor falls for her mystery and in fact, becomes borderline obsessed with his desire for her. In the book Disgrace, Melanie s complex character not only drives the overall theme of disgrace forward, but exemplifies how feelings of shame can be hidden and indirectly affect others. Melanie Issacs is a blooming petite, soft spoken, and beautiful free spirited woman under David Lurie s tutelage at Cape Technical University. During the novel, she is a ... But he should have been wary from the start which shows that this is now more than just a one time thing, she has come to his house asking for comfort, but even David is unsure. After multiple attempts to figure out what it is that is bothering her, she consistently refuses and tells him she will explain at a later time. This again shows her secretive side to David that she may be hiding something, but his desire for her continues to be stronger than any worry he may have. Melanie s feelings of shame and disgrace help to shape the direction of Disgrace, leading up to David feeling disgrace because of his desire for her. Throughout the novel Disgrace, Melanie Issacs and David Lurie have many encounters that provide extensive detail on the feelings and events that occurred amongst themselves. David first notices Melanie on his trip home through the university gardens and proceeds to invite her to his home for wine and cheese. He then continues to pursue Melanie by acquiring her address and phone number from the University s records. Early on in the novel it appears apparent how fascinated David becomes of his young student in just the few encounters they have. I especially liked the candy wheelbarrows that men would roll around town, filled with all sorts of goodies. I loved walking down the touristy beached infested with men and women desperately calling for your attention in effort to sell you wool sarapes, woven bracelets and straw sombreros to hide from the fervent sun. We sailed down the coast of Mexico, discovering neon carnivals, steams filled with crocodiles and a St . • 4. The Is The Applications Of Computers, Software, And... Bioinformatics is the applications of computers, software, and mathematical models to the management of biological information from large data sets. It is the storage and analysis of biological information by the use of computers. Computers are used to gather, store, analyze, and integrate information that can then be applied to gene bases drug discovery and development. This has become an essential part of biological research activity, and is rapidly becoming as ordinary in biosciences as molecular biology has been since the 1980s. The science of Bioinformatics, which is the melding of molecular biology with computer science, is essential to the use of genomic information in understanding human diseases and in the identification of new molecular targets for drug discovery (What is bioinformatics). The primary goal of bioinformatics is to increase the understanding of biological processes. It is the determination of the sequence of the entire human genome (approximately three billion base pairs) (What is bioinformatics). This is done so differently from other approaches, however, due to its focus on developing and applying computationally intensive techniques to achieve this goal. With bioinformatics, scientists can compare data from genetic material of a variety of living things, from tiny bacteria to large organisms, such as humans (Bioinformatics, 2012). Bioinformatics has made it possible for scientists to be able to analyze genomes and their functions. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Belief must be of one s own will and through the conversion process converts find and struggle with their will, they then accept their will, and they have the word of Christ within them once they are able to receive the sacraments. Aquinas explains how we must have unbelievers in our world for religion to work and continue to grow. Catholics are all called to evangelize, and this helps others get to know God and his wonderous deeds. God in a sense asks us to evangelize by allowing certain evils: But God, although all powerful and supremely good, nonetheless allows some evils to take place in the universe, evils that he could prevent, lest greater goods be lost if evils were removed, or lest rightly tolerate certain evils let certain goods be prevented, or even worse evils incurred (Aquinas 193). Evangelization is a useful tool in compelling others towards Christ. When we evangelize through working we express how much our beliefs rely on both prayer and work. James 2:14 says, What does it profit, my brethren, if a man says he has faith but has not works ? This passage from the Bible shows us again that we are meant to go out and live our faith and evangelize through our deeds. God allows different evils so that he can allow for these different goods, some of these goods can be achieved through evangelization. Moments of working through our deeds ... • 13. This circuit diagram shows how a 555 timer IC is configured to function as a basic monostable multivibrator. A monostable multivibrator is a timing circuit that changes state once triggered, but returns to its original state after a certain time delay. It got its name from the fact that only one of its output states is stable. It is also known as a one shot . In this circuit, a negative pulse applied at pin 2 triggers an internal flip flop that turns off pin 7 s discharge transistor, allowing C1 to charge up through R1. At the same time, the flip flop brings the output (pin 3) level to high . When capacitor C1 as charged up to about 2/3 Vcc, the flip flop is triggered once again, this time making the pin 3 output low and turning on pin 7 s discharge transistor, which discharges C1 to ground. This circuit, in effect, produces a pulse at pin 3 whose width t is just the product of R1 and C1, i.e., t=R1C1. IR Transmission circuit is used to generate the modulated 36 kHz IR signal. This was not an uncommon reaction towards David s art at the time. However, the painting was restored to a place of honor by Baudelaire, who wrote : This painting is David s masterpiece and one of the great curiosities of modern art because, by a strange feat, it has nothing trivial or vile. What is most surprising in this very unusual visual poem is that it was painted very quickly. When one thinks of the beauty of the lines, this quickness is bewildering. This is food for the strong, the triumph of spiritualism. David s artwork did not just involve the use of pretty colours. Many of his paintings beared powerfull meanings, historically and politically. Culturally they had a huge impact on social activity during the French Revolution. The story of Brutus was popular with educated sections of the French public during the eighteenth century. Voltaire s play Brutus , was performed on stage from 1730. In November 1790, the first two performances of a revival of Brutus at the National Theater in Paris took place. At the second performance of the revival, a stage tableau of David s painting was acted out at the moment when the death of Brutus son was announced. Like his later Death of Marat , David s Brutus can be seen as a representation of a kind of political heroism in which the best interests of society are put before those of the individual. • 25. In Cold Blood Quotes And Analysis Title There are a few symbols that serve a purpose throughout the novel. The novel is opened with Bigger attempting to kill a rat that has entered his family s apartment. First, the rat allows the audience to see the conditions the Thomas family lives in, which is crowded. Secondly, the rat symbolizes Bigger s fear and anger towards his life. He tries to kill and get rid of the rat, just as he tries to suppress his fears. Thirdly, Bigger, much like the rat is concerned and powerless. Bigger is powerless and forced to take the job at the Dalton home. He is angry that he did not have any other alternative but the job as a chauffeur. Bigger has now taken the responsibility of providing for his family, a responsibility he did not want to partake in (Demiturk 1). Finally, the rat symbolizes the first death in the novel, and essentially prepares the audience for the later killings (Tremaine 5). Another symbol is Bigger as a Christ figure. Subsequently, Bigger is crucified by the white society while reaching a sense of liberation (Butler, tone 4). Bigger feels relieved and experiences a feeling he had never felt before. He felt as if he has found a purpose. Finally, one of the major symbols is blindness. The Daltons are blind to their own motives, and only driven by guilt (Butler, tone 5). • 28. The Effect Of The Judgemental Nature Of Puritans In... Junior Research Paper Society is made of many different types of people. Some people commit their lives to the church, others commit their lives to helping others. No matter how different and noble members of society may appear, they all have something in common: sin. Members of Puritan society all have this in common, and therefore should be less critical of each other. The effect of the judgemental nature of Puritans in Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Scarlet Letter is demonstrated by recurring dark and light themes, representing restriction and freedom from judgement. Hawthorne s use of the archetypal symbols of darkness and light suggests his view that the Puritan society was excessively judgemental of their members and that all societies should be less critical. Hawthorne uses the symbol of darkness to communicate his view of Puritan society and judgement. Hawthorne applies darkness to the conventional Puritan citizens and to those who do not follow the societal rules to show the effect that Puritan judgement has. Darkness archetypally represents evil, and when parallelled with light in The Scarlet Letter also symbolizes restriction. The Puritan society has in place many restrictions, one of which being strictly against adultery. These restrictions are enforced by characters such as the town beadle, or officer. When Hester, the protagonist guilty of adultery is freed from jail, a figure appears with her like a black shadow emerging into sunshine, the grim and grisly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 31. Amy Chua s Why Chinese Mothers Are Superior Essay Reading Amy Chua s Why Chinese Mothers Are Superior was a bit difficult. I had to stop myself from having multiple outburst because of what she has wrote. Amy s argument that Chinese mothers are better parents, is questionable because it assumes that other parents don t know who to raise their own children. I believe my parents raised us just fine, my siblings and I pushing for degrees is proof enough. Amy Chua was strict with her kids, believing that having fun and being a kid is a unnecessary distraction. That s great kudos to her for keeping her kids focused but there is a flaw in that. Amy took her kids freedom away. Her daughters weren t able to enjoy the simple things like going to a sleepover or playing with friends. They didn t seem to have a choice when it came to academics either. In my own experience I had a choice. I was able to peruse distractions or study and better myself. My parents always told me I would either reap the rewards or suffer the consequences of my action in that respect. They always supported me even if I chose an academic subject they didn t like. Amy can argue that having a choice is a flaw but at least I have one. Amy can also argue that she has set her kids up to succeed in life, but so have countless lesser western parents . Her method might be great but to say that one race is better than another is borderline arrogant. She should never assume that because she s making an ass out of her and me. • 34. The God Of Nightmares By Paula Fox I wonder how many of us regret losing our innocence. Do we remember the exact moment it happened? To me, innocence is the lack of awareness of people being untrustworthy and bad. The moment you realize that the world is not what you thought when you wore your rose colored glasses is very sad. We may wish we could go back and erase what we know or attempt to get back what was lost, but unfortunately that just cannot happen. God is an incorporeal being and the source of all moral obligations. Losing our innocence is about experiences from the rebellion against God by ourselves or others that cause our spirit to be broken or wounded. In, The God of Nightmares , by Paula Fox we will analysis the loss of innocence and the world of faith destroyed, thus embodying the God of nightmares. Faith is a belief, confidence or trust in a person, object, religion, idea or view. The story opens with Helen s mother having faith that her husband, whom left over ten years earlier would return to her and their daughter, Helen. She never moved on with her life, but maintained the home, herself and Helen as if he was to return. Helen receives a letter from her father s girlfriend letting her know that he is dead. They both have a tight hold on the child now and are pulling backwards. The story concludes and it is implied that they have killed the baby. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Creating a setting that is dark intensifies the mood of the story. Later in the story, the couple is physically fighting over the baby: The baby was red faced and screaming (Carver). Having the vivid image of a distressed baby makes the reader feel compassion for the child. The baby is stuck in the middle of an argument between two adults and has no choice to leave. These examples of imagery relate to the theme of selfishness and greed that can overpower a person. Carver uses very few details in this story to make it more relatable to the reader. For instance, there are no names given the the man, woman, or child in the story. The absence of this details lets the reader put themselves in the shoes of the man, woman, or child while reading. There is an instance or hesitation or uncertainty when the man leaves the bedroom: He fastened the suitcase, put on his coat, looked around the bedroom before turning off the light (Carver). When the man looks back to the room, his hesitation implies that he is unsure about what decision to make, but when he shuts off the light, he is void of all feelings and has decided to fight. A similar situation happens to the woman in this story: she wiped her eyes and stared at him before turning and going back to the living room (Carver). When this woman looks at her spouse she is making sure that she wants to go through with fighting, and when she looks away she is determined to win the fight. He loved her so much that he would perform any task she wished for him to do for her. however as time passes, she had passed away and his devoted heart for her rendered him to not be with any woman other than his wife. Love, a powerful word and action is often described to be something in which you devote your feelings and emotion to something or someone with full intent, however Love in Antigone, a tragic play, written by Sophocles reciprocates this idea in a completely new way. A theme that Sophocles writes throughout Antigone could possibly be the idea of loyalty to the city versus family, and he often grazes upon the origin on many of the themes, providing sufficient amount of details that could be used to support them. However, a possible main occuring theme of Antigone is that Love is unconquerable. This theme surfaces in many ways throughout the play, specifically, in the idea of Love overpowering every aspect that the Greeks and Athenians believed to be impenetrable. In the midst of the conflict between Creon and Haemon, Creon strongly dislikes and neglected Haemon s point of view because he believes that he had been corrupted by a woman. Haemon is accused of being held captive by Antigone and his love for her recognized [him as] the slave of a woman, referring to the love that Antigone possesses, overpowering Haemon (Sophocles 769).
