Breaking Stereotypes
Stereotypes are prevailing and oversimplified ideas of particular groups of people or certain things,
and they have been around for a long time. Stereotypes are immensely detrimental to a myriad of
people because they abject and discriminate them, as well as cause division and separation amongst
certain communities. Breaking stereotypes is important due to the social climate that we are currently
in today. Racism and discrimination are ubiquitous because people of colour are painted in a negative
light due to the stereotypes they are given.
Stereotypes are harmful for many reasons; one being that gender stereotypes, specifically, objectify
and are demeaning to women (or anyone who identifies as a female). In my Stereotype Student
Interview Protocol, Student #2 told me, ...people think that women are weak...are great at
cleaning...and it is their job to take care of the children. Another student also told me an anecdote on
how teachers always chose the males to help them with certain tasks, as though it was a man s job and
that women are unable to do such a task. Comments and actions like ... Show more content on

They ignore and disregard the humainess, potential, and uniqueness of people; along with causing
division and separation in certain communities. In Grappling With Gentrification As A Middle Class
Black American, Kashana Cauley explains, The traditional understanding of gentrification hinges on
black racial stereotypes, which presumes blacks to be poor and whites to be wealthy. This
authenticates the fact that people of colour are perceived to be subordinate to whites, which
substantially diminishes them as people. Additionally, according to How a Self Fulfilling Stereotype

their performance. This ratifies that people s confidence and performance is deteriorated once they are

The Effects Of Elevated Carbon Dioxide ( Co2 ) Essay
2. Impact of Elevated Carbon Dioxide (CO2)
Carbon dioxide (CO2) is a trace gas accounting for about 0.039 per cent or 390 ppm currently. CO2
concentration increases by 1 to 3 ppm every year primarily because of burning of fossil fuels. In
future, by 2100 the atmospheric CO2 concentration should reach 600 to 750 ppm. Plants are directly
influenced by increase in CO2 concentration; and increase in CO2 affects many physiological
processes like photosynthesis, respiration, transpiration, reproductive processes, and yield. CO2
diffuses from the atmosphere into leaves, via., stomata into mesophyll cells, intercellular spaces, cells,
and finally reach chloroplast for photosynthetic process. Increasing CO2 concentration in the
atmosphere will enhance the photosynthesis and dry matter production. The response to CO2 varies
among species mainly by the enzyme RuBisCo (RuBP). C3 plants readily react by increasing the
activity of RuBP carboxylase and by reducing the activity of RuBP oxygenase. Increase in
photosynthesis by 25% 75% was observed over doubling of atmospheric CO2. C4 plants show little
response to elevated CO2. Crassulacean Acid Metabolism (CAM) plants also showed an increase in
photosynthetic rate. The increasing concentration of CO2 by burning of fossil fuels can be reduced by
improving the carbon fixation in the plants. Short term exposure of CO2 on plants shows increased
photosynthesis, whereas long term exposure shows variation in photosynthesis and also plant growth.

The Pros And Cons Of US Immigration
On Monday March 6, President Donald Trump signed a revised executive order that bans immigration
from six Muslim countries, including Syria, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Yemen, and Sudan. The previous
executive order also included Iraq, but was dropped due to the state s significant role in the war on
ISIS. This order also bans all refugees from coming into the United States for 120 days for the purpose
of stronger security in the U.S. But, there are a few flaws in this ban, like the fact that the none of the
six countries have committed a terrorist act on U.S. soil in the past 40 years (Gibbs). The ban will
prove to be more unsuccessful overall than effective in strengthening the national security. Trump s
travel ban will be detrimental to the global economy because it will ... Show more content on

around 10.2% of the global GDP, meaning the industry is considerably important around the world.
The U.S., accounting for 20% of the travel and tourism industry, generates $1.5 trillion to the
economy. But the ban is already proving to impact the economy; after Trump initially signed the
executive order, the next day it was apparent that the ban would have negative economic
consequences. The value of the dollar decreased in relation to international currencies. Moreover,
individual states economies have been directly affected by the executive order. Hawaii is the first state
to sue the administration due to its substantial loss of tourism. The state, which is the number one
tourism country in the U.S., contends that their tourism industry will suffer greatly because the ban
creates an international perception that America is an exclusionary country, so no one would want to

Does Cataract Cause Blindness In The World
Cataract is one of the leading causes of blindness in the world. While it is important to learn the
symptoms and other issues related to the disease, it is equally important to understand when a surgery

retinal specialists in the world, tells when a cataract surgery is required.
Surgery requirement
In the early stages of the disease, change in glasses might help. However, as the disease advances
vision is further distorted. When the condition further worsens, surgery is the only option. Your eye

Government Surveillance
Government Surveillance
Imagine a world where your every move was being monitored. A dark world where it is no secret who
you are, where you have been and who you associate with; now include who you love, who you pray
to and what you just ate for dinner. The word privacy doesn t exist in such world and it is such world
that we are heading to. Big Brother is watching you! This quote by George Orwell couldn t have been
truer. Every aspect of our lives is being sorted through as Big Data this very moment. Government
surveillance has prevailed by the name of security. But, is government surveillance of internet digital
communications like social networks, cell phone calls, text messages, and emails really a public
service of security? Or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Government surveillance in the past was not a big threat due to the limitations on technology;
however, in the current day, it has become an immense power for the government. Taylor, author of a
book on Electronic Surveillance supports, A generation ago, when records were tucked away on paper
in manila folders, there was some assurance that such information wouldn t be spread everywhere.
Now, however, our life stories are available at the push of a button (Taylor 111). With more and more
Americans logging into social media cites and using text messaging devices, the more providers of
metadata the government has. In her journal The Virtuous Spy: Privacy as an Ethical Limit , Anita L.
Allen, an expert on privacy law, writes, Contemporary technologies of data collection make secret,
privacy invading surveillance easy and nearly irresistible. For every technology of confidential
personal communication...there are one or more counter technologies of eavesdropping (Allen 1).
Being in the middle of the Digital Age, we have to be much more careful of the kinds of information
we put in our digital devices.
Some Americans may argue that the government surveillance programs target only foreigners, that we,
as Americans, are exempted from this type of scrutiny. They are even reassured by President Barrack
Obama in an interview on Charlie Rose: If you are

The Classical Theory Of Criminal Activity
It is only appropriate to believe that the severity of penalties given to an individual whom committed a
crime should be proportionate to the crime in which they engaged in, no more than what is necessary,
but enough in order to deter the offender from participating in another crime. This approach is applied
in such ways because it is believed that criminal activity is a rational choice, chosen because they
perceive it to be in their best interest. Criminals make a rational choice and choose to do criminal acts
due to maximum pleasure and minimum pain (Classical School of Criminology, 2012) Cesare
Beccaria contributed to the classical theory greatly, and introduced several attributions to the justice
system which advanced it immensely. Views were consistent with Beccaria s utilitarian beliefs that
sought to maximize the public benefit by achieving the greatest amount of good for the most people .
(Newman, Freilich 133 1997; Newman Margongiu, 1997) The Classical Theory has resulted in
positive advancements in the justice system for various reasons. Firstly, it is forward looking
utilitarian models designed to promote the public good (Freilich, J., 2014, 138), also, it embraces
scientific principles to achieve their goals and seek to temper harsh punishments of their times
(Freilich, J., 2014, 138). These are beneficial for the justice system because communities
independently choose the crime reduction strategy which they are comfortable with, and believe will

Reformulation Of Learned Helplessness
Learned helplessness occurs when a person is repeatedly exposed to an aversive stimuli and feels that
no matter how much they try to escape; they are not successful. Therefore, they tend to cave in since a
sense of being helpless has been developed to escape the situation. Early studies on the idea of learned
helplessness occurred accidently since psychologists were initially studying avoidance learning in
dogs. These dogs were subject to a few foot shocks and at first would attempt to escape the shock
however, these dogs later on stop attempting to escape and would submissively accept the foot shocks.
Then these psychologists tried numerous situations to examine this sensation by placing the dogs in
different cages where it would be easier ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Then the participants were place in a new situation where no unpleasant noise was used however,
participants that were exposed to the learned helplessness condition performed worse on solving
problems in the second situation than the other participants. People tend to generalize their
experiences of helplessness from one situation to the next in regards to how feel about the situation
and the loss of control they have towards it. Current researchers are focused on what factors influence
people to develop this sense of helplessness and also goes on their mind who undergoes this
interpretation of the world. The reformulation of learned helplessness theory emphasizes the
importance of the thoughts that lead a person to develop feelings of helplessness. The explanatory
style of the learned helplessness refers to the explanations people use to identified the causes of
events. Three dimensions are used when explaining the causes of events. The first dimension identifies
explanations for events as either internal or

Double Impact Essay
An Analysis of the Movie, Double Impact
The movie opens twenty five years ago in Hong Kong. The parents of two twin babies, Alex and
Chad, had borrowed money from Raymond Zhang and
Nigel Griffith, two lead smugglers. They needed the money in order to build a tunnel between Hong
Kong and the mainland. After the tunnel was built and the money collected, Nigel Griffith and
Raymond Zhang had a gang of hit men massacre Alex and Chad s family. Frank Avery, a friend of the
family, races into the scene and finds the parents already dead. The two babies are in the back seat
with a maid. She takes Alex and flees the scene. Frank sees Chad left behind and takes him and runs.
Twenty five years after ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Alex arrives and head butts Chad. When Chad revives from being knocked unconscious, Frank
convinces the two brothers to help avenge the deaths of their parents.
The setting for this movie is very appropriate. They are in Hong Kong where the laws are not up to par
with the American Style. This allows the corrupt trades of Zhang, Griffith, and Alex to go on hardly
disturbed by the Hong Kong police.
The dominant theme in Double Impact is vengeance and it is seen quite readily once the action gets
rolling. Alex and Chad are out to kill Zhang and Griffith for the massacre of their parents. As the
movie rolls on, Alex becomes suspicious of Chad because he thinks that he is playing around with his
girlfriend Danielle. We see Alex s thoughts of Chad with Danielle as he becomes drunker and his mind
imagines that they are having sex together.
These thoughts enrage Alex and he fights his own brother.
The whole movie was directed and acted very well considering Chad and
Alex are both played by the same person, Jean Claude Van Damme, which justifies the movie s name,
Double Impact. The main character Jean Claude
Van Damme plays more roles than just casting. He is also the fight choreographer and one of the
producers. His talent of kickboxing has come through in his first great achievement where he played

They could theoretically go into your Facebook account and change your password, locking you out
of it. That is a downside to OAUTH. It grants the website certain permissions to post something on
Facebook on your behalf. What I mean by this is if you have your Yahoo account linked to Facebook
and you read an article, Yahoo will post something on Facebook saying you recently read a certain
article. Granted Yahoo gives you an option to show friends on Facebook what you read or not, but
websites such as SocialCam do not give you that option. If you watch a video on SocialCam it will
show on Facebook what you watched. The reasons behind these actions are so friends will drive
friends to read potential stories and to drive people to the websites to gain more viewers. So they
essentially use your Facebook to further their website. Also websites can use recent trends from your
Facebook page to try to entice you with advertisements. The advertisements may proclaim that friend
of yours on Facebook uses a certain product, or is interested in certain things that you may be
interested in. Now which one do I prefer? Personally they both have their downsides, but for ease of
access I actually prefer OAUTH. IT has its flaws, but so does any software or ease of access program.
Depending on how it is used, I would prefer to use it only to access certain websites where I

is a group involved in many things all for a very amazing cause. They work hard for the things they do

The Human Rights Campaign (HRC) is a group that works toward equality. Their symbol happens to

Physical Education Should Not Be The Most Loved Essay
Gym class is loved or hated. Girls, on one hand, cannot stand to be bothered with changing and
messing up their hair while boys live for the invigorating feeling of running around and being an
immature jerk many girls would mumble under their breath after being pelted with a ball. Gym class
can be a very stress reliving state of time, others it is a time to gossip and relax. But why is there such
a distinct state of difference between the love and hate of gym class? Physical education has been
questioned for many years by students. Why do we have to take it? It s the stupidest class ever.
Although it is the most hated it should be the most loved. Physical education should not be about
worrying if you are going to be hit with a ball it should be about letting go and moving, loosening
your body. Since physical activity does enhance your mental and social process. So why not get a little
competitive and play some basketball.
Imagine an elementary school gymnasium without winners defeating the losers, where children
excitedly run through doors that open to a carefully constructed wonderland of tasks and challenges
designed to enhance their physical, social, emotional and cognitive development. Imagine groups of
girls and boys striving to negotiate their growing bodies through the movement successes and failures;
imagine that these children, despite their widely variable physical and social maturity levels, play well
together, cooperate fairly, communicate

Comparing The Characters In Ray Bradbury s The Paterson...
In Ray Bradbury s fictional novel about the horrifying future, he discusses topics that, politically and
socially, can relate to Judith Ortiz Cofer s short story; The Paterson Public Library. These two pertain
to each other because both Bradbury s and Cofer s characters are afraid of situations that involve
books. Though they do compare in many ways, there are also differences between the stories.
Cofer says that every trip to the library would be a dangerous one because of the black girl Lorraine. It
took me through enemy territory, says Cofer. Bradbury s character Montag was afraid of being seen
with books because they were illegal and he was afraid that he would be burned for having them. In a
similar manner, Cofer was afraid of being in a situation on her way to get her books. She was afraid
that the older bully would hurt her.
Montag is more hostile when he takes action in Bradbury s novel. Cofer does not take action, she is a
tutor for her bully and she cannot get through to the bully. Bradbury s bully, it turns out, is one of
Montag s friends. Beatty is a friend of Montag in the beginning of Bradbury s novel, later in the story,

Cofer preserves her intelligence and gains intelligence through the use of books. This could show
students that books are a great way to acquire knowledge instead of just school. Bradbury hints at the
way we used books in our society and abuse them today. We do not appreciate the way that they are
mistreated and basically left to rot in the unused libraries. Since we treat books very wrong and don t
use them to gain knowledge and explore the depths of our imagination, Clarisse asks a very simple,
yet deep question; Are you

The Cultural take over of Ireland by the British Empire is a central issue in Translations. Friel

Hugh refuses to translate the word always for
Maire showing that he is very aware of the change that surrounds the
Irish, believing that it is a silly word under the inconstant circumstances. Therefore his drunken

The character of Manus is rather more complicated than that of Hugh and our perception of him
changes as the play develops. During the play Manus refuses to apply for a job at the international
school his father applied for because he felt that he couldn t go up against him . This enforces Manus
loyalty towards his father and perhaps is an indication of Irish faithfulness compared to English
disloyalty; disloyalty which is seen when Yolland explains that his father got him a job but he missed
the boat and, not being able to return home and face him, joined the army. Yolland also shows
disloyalty to his own country and language when he decides that there is no English equivalent for a

for his capacity to embrace other cultures. We also respect Manus for his sense of duty and loyalty
towards Ireland. Friel plays with our emotions in this way making us hypocritical as

Browning s Sonnet 13, By Elizabeth Barrett Browning
In Sonnet 13 by Elizabeth Barrett Browning, the beloved wants the speaker to transcribe the feelings
that she has for him in a sonnet. However, even though she knows that her feelings are real, she is not
yet comfortable with declaring her love in such a way. In her sonnet, Browning compares what she is
feeling to a lit torch in rough winds: And hold the torch out, while the winds are rough, / Between our
faces, to cast light on each? / I drop it at thy feet (3 5). In this metaphor, the torch acts to enlighten
what is between both Browning and her beloved. Except, with external forces (such as the rough
winds) battling against her increasing emotions, she feels as though she must focus on protecting her
feelings. By the end of this quote, Browning drops the torch, thus representing the fact that she can t
go through with describing what she feels for her beloved. Ultimately, she tells her love, My hand to
hold my spirit so far off / From myself me that I should bring thee proof / In words, of love hid in me
out of reach (6 8). Here, she states that she can t go through with risking herself. For now, he will have
to settle with silence as his only answer. Simply by evaluating Browning s response, we can see how
much she cares for her beloved. First off, she worries about the possibility of risking or changing the
strong emotions she has. Additionally, she believes that, given her profoundly heartfelt emotions, she
will not be able to accurately depict their significance.

What Is Red Baiting Symbolize In The Crucible
The hunt for a scapegoat is the easiest of all hunting expeditions, Dwight D. Eisenhower. You can see
from this that he is trying to relay the message that when you re looking for blame, there are many
people to cast it on. This idea is relative to the Salem Witch Trials and the McCarthy trials because the
supposed witches and communists were just scapegoats for the fear that the common man had. In the
Witch Trials, there were 19 people hung, guilty of not confessing and naming names of other people
preforming witchcraft. Joesph McCarthy of McCarthyism blacklisted hundreds of Americans, those
who failed to name names were later accompanied by unemployment. Arthur Miller depicted the

Advantages Of Gravel And Stone Mulch
Gravel and stone mulches can be very effective, especially in gardens where organic mulches would
be too expensive or impractical. They are generally better at retaining heat in cold climates, along with
keeping valuable moisture in the garden soil. The disadvantages of using stone based mulch is that it
is heavy and difficult to remove, can be quite costly, and usually requires professional assistance to
install the mulch in your garden. Here are a few tips on working with gravel or stone garden mulch.

Disease resistance of newer varieties is also often better than that found in their older counterparts.
There are good standard varieties that can not be ignored, however. A comparison of a favorite variety
with a new introduction is a worthwhile gardening experience. There is no test quite as meaningful as
a comparison in your own garden. As you plant a garden this season, most likely you have a supply of
seeds left from last year or even previous years. Whether to plant these seeds depends on both the type
of seeds and the way they have been stored. Seeds stored properly from last year may germinate well
in the garden this year. Most garden seeds may be kept for one to two years and still germinate well.
The ability to germinate drops off faster in some others. Among those with the shortest life are sweet
corn, okra, onion, parsley, parsnip and salsify. Although these seeds may germinate reasonably well
after one year, the germination rate and vigor is seldom adequate after two years. Among seeds with a
slightly longer life and good germination up to three years are bean, carrot, English pea and southern
pea. Most other vegetable seeds will germinate well up to their fourth or fifth year when kept in cool,
dry storage conditions. In a germination test, we may find that when testing a group of old seeds, a
large number of seed will germinate. Still, when seeds from this same group are planted into the
garden, germination is poor. As seeds age, they may still be viable, but lose vigor. When exposed to
the less favorable germination conditions outdoors, the weaker seedlings may not survive long enough
to emerge from the soil. When using old seeds, plant more thickly than recommended. This not only
helps to get rid of the old seed faster, but improves the chances for having an adequate stand of plants.
It is better to thin plants when germination is good rather than attempting

The Importance Of Walking Under Steady State Conditions
The current knowledge available from the literature on walking at different speeds assumes a direct
relationship between the level of activity of lower extremities muscles and speed. Several studies in
the past have looked into this relationship for walking under steady state conditions. In this section we
review these studies and their findings and we highlight limitations of their approaches and discuss the
suggestions to expand the analysis to walking under transient conditions.
Hof et al. [21] were one of the first groups to measure surface electromyograms (EMGs) from subjects
walking at different speeds. Five speeds were instructed for over ground walking and EMGs were
measured for ten walking steps at each speed. Parts of EMG profiles showed considerable changes
with speed while other parts did not show any changes. The authors suggested that the activity at any
speed could be estimated through a linear interpolation of sum of the profile at the lowest speed and a
function that represents the increase in the activity per unit increase of normalized speed. One
limitation of the calculations here was lack of statistical tests. Because of this shortcoming the linear
interpolation model could be used to make reliable conclusions only about the effect of speed on the
activity in the vicinity of the peak of each signal. Without building the confidence intervals we cannot
infer the effect of speed on activation profiles over the entire gait cycle. In addition to lack of

Hand Pumper Fire Research Paper
In about 1852 the Borough of Green Bay purchased a portion of a lot on the east side of South
Washington Street just south of Walnut Street. That site is currently the southern end of the Backstage
at the Meyer. To promote a permanent fire department, the borough built a two story wooden engine
house there and obtained a new hand pumper fire engine. A new fire company (named Alert) formed,
but ceased operations within two years, as had two previous fire companies in 1841 and 1847.
Following three devastating fires from November 1853 through December 1854, a group of
immigrants organized themselves as Germania Fire Company No. 1. The common council gave them
possession of the engine house on South Washington and the hand pumper fire engine.

Chitin occurrence, chemistry, extractions, properties and uses
Name: Vihang Rangrej
Student number: 43620348
Due date: 4th October 2016
Word count: 1. Introduction
In the race to develop alternatives in the recent era, chitin and derivatives has showed an immense
potential of being used as an alternate polysaccharide source and as a biopolymer in various sectors
spanned from medical and food processing to waste management. Chitin gets its name from the Greek
word, Chiton , the meaning of which is a coat of mail. It first surfaced in 1811, used by Bradconnot
(Shahidi et al. 1999). It is reported to be a biopolymer that is 2nd widely available on the face of earth
after cellulose (Shahidi et al. 1999; Fernando et al. 2016), chemically, chits is a poly ( β (14) N
acetyl D glucosamine), that first came into existence in 1884 (Rinaudo 2006).
In nature, chitin occurs in an ordered crystalline microfibrils which is a form of structural component
found within the exoskeleton of arthropods or within the cell walls of microbes such as fungi and
yeast (Rinaudo 2006). Although these are the main sources of chitin, there are several other plants and
animal within the lower kingdoms which consists chitin that requires it for strength and reinforcement
(Rinaudo 2006). However, the main sources of chitin and its derivatives such a chitosan, until now
have been crabs and shrimp shells available as a

How The Influences In The History Of The Iberian Peninsula
The history of the Iberian Peninsula has lead to influence from many different cultures throughout
history. These influences are especially visible in architecture. Looking specifically at medieval Spain
and the buildings that were constructed in this time frame, one can see the influence different cultures
had throughout the region. Some of the best examples for this come in the form of Gothic Cathedrals.
Greatly inspired by the French structures that started the movement, many Spanish cathedrals exhibit
not elements of French influence, but also Islamic influence as well. While most study of Spanish
cathedrals has focused on southern Spain and narrowed in on identifying the Islamic influence within
their design, northern Spain also provides some wonderful examples of the influence from both
French and Islamic culture, particularly in Leon and Burgos respectively. In my comparison of these
two cathedrals, I hope to grasp a better understanding of how different cultures interact and influence
architecture to form the Spanish Gothic style. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Making Causal Inferences In Psychology
Although many people believe that the only way to confidently make causal inferences in the
psychology world is through true experiments, I believe that observational and other quasi
experiments can be just as effective for making cause and effect conclusions. One of the cardinal rules
in psychology, of course, is that correlation does not equal causation. While this is true, I strongly
believe that when certain conditions are met, we can infer causation even with nonexperimental data. I
have learned about many of these conditions in my Advanced Research Methods textbook and
completely agree with the author s opinion on this topic. Basically, causality has a probabilistic
meaning rather than a deterministic one. When making causality ... Show more content on

With this type of perspective, I believe it is fair to make conclusions about personality as a cause of
behavior (despite the fact that we cannot manipulate a person s stable dispositions) so long as the
model investigating how a trait causes an outcome is well designed, replicated, and combined with
other kinds of evidence (pg 10).
One study that might be fair to draw causal inferences from analyzed the relationship between
explanatory style and academic achievement (pg 287). In this study, researchers found that first year
college students with optimistic explanatory styles obtained a higher GPA than students with
pessimistic explanatory styles (presumably because of greater motivation and perseverance in the face
of adversity) even after controlling for intellectual ability (with SAT scores). What makes me lean
toward a more cause effect rather than a correlational explanation is:
1.) This research is not saying that an optimistic explanatory style necessarily causes students to earn
higher GPAs, but that optimists, because of their tendency to show greater motivation and persistence
(despite times of hardship), develop strategies that are related to higher achievement. Having an

Ted Talk Debate Summary
Summary Ted Talk and Debate
I watched two videos about Mexico s drug cartel this week, a Ted Talk and a debate on whether the
U.S. is to blame for the Mexican Drug War. The Ted talk focused on the business aspect of drug
cartels, which is something that I don t hear very often. The debate video was two teams debating to
sway the audience s opinion on whether the U.S. is to blame for the Mexican Drug Wars. While each
person had their own unique ideas, it seemed likely most or all of them agreed on one point, and that
was that the U.S. did share some of the responsibility for the drug war. In both videos, they discussed
the business side of the drug cartels. The bulk of this conversation happened in the Ted Talk, although
there were a few short discussions in the main debate that I listened to. ... Show more content on

While it should be logical that an organization with the reach and profits that a drug cartel has would
have to have great organization or distribution/production routes, it is not something that I have ever
heard talked about before. Most of the time when I think of drug gangs or cartels, I think of the
(somewhat fake or cheesy) henchmen you see in movies, or the small time, local gang members that
you hear about on the news. The highest person I had heard about was El Chapo, and even that was
focused more on his escape than his background or why he was in jail in the first place. I also did not
know that the U.S. has created such a huge demand for drugs, and I feel like that is something that is
not something that I would not have been able to stumble across, so to speak. It completely surprised
me that over 50% of the world s drug demand has come from the United

Computers and the Many Benefits
Computers and the Many Benefits Computers play a huge part in many all of our lives in one way or
another. They have many purposes and are used in various types of environments, such as medical
facilities, government offices, and many households. They also are the reason we are able to surf the
internet, watch animated television shows and see movies with special graphics. Computers have
impacted our lives in many ways. You may not notice it but they did make life a lot easier. Without
computers, the world would be a harder place to live in. Thanks to computers, everyday life is easier
for us. Some people may disagree but most wouldn t. Computers have made the impossible possible.
In a household a computer possibilities are endless. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Crimes are now being solved with the help of computers and at a higher rate.
Movies with special effects are made with computers. Most of the movies today use computers to
make things look realistic but they are not. For instance the movie CARS an animated movie would
not be here today if computers where not around. Imagine not be able to see television shows that
entertain us simply because of the graphics used. The graphics used entice us into show because it
make the show a lot realer then they are. Almost all movies have special effects and those special
effects are made by computers.
Computers are here to stay and things will only get better, because they are here to make everyday
task simpler. Since computers we have been able to cure diseases, find people and help stay connected
to family and friends aboard. As Kinsley s said, Home computers [ ] the internet have expanded
human freedom (559). We are able to do so much more with our daily task and with our personal lives
because of computers.

Substance Use Disorder ( Sud )
Substance Use Disorder s (SUD) have become an escalating issue in the mental health field over the
last few decades. The alarming incline to drug related and co occurring maladaptive behaviors has
created a dedicated science to better understand and define this problematic situation. Definition
allows the therapeutic process to evolve around the symptomatic problem in order to deliver the hope
of recovery. Social stigmas often view drug abuse and addiction as one in the same, but when viewed
by the clinician, they take on an important role in defining treatment. Drug abuse is viewed as a
reoccurring use of a substance outside of its intended purpose resulting in negative consequences. The
use of drugs in any form, is often voluntary and has a high risk factor of developing dependency that
leads to addiction. The American Society of Addiction Medicine has characterized addiction by the
inability to consistently abstain, impaired behavior control, craving, diminished cognitive behavior in
regards to relationships, and dysfunctional emotional response (ASAM, 2011). At this point, the
progressive substance use cannot be changed without a course of treatment. The therapist s
subscription to a particular pharmacological theory, such as the disease model,
behavioral/environmental model, or diathesis stress model can determine the therapeutic approach.
Considering the disease model as a theory that drives substance abuse, has been debated by many
scientists for years due to how

The Use of Rhetoric In Athenian Democracy Essay
Rhetoric was a major factor in the development and maintenance of the Athenian government and was
used by many in order to gain power and ascend in politics. The ascendance of the great demagogues
in Athens during the time of the Peloponnesian war was heavily influenced by their rhetoric and
ability to effectively guide the Athenian democracy. The democratic government was composed of
two groups: public speakers [...], those who made proposals and publicly argued for or against
political projects, and demos, those who as a group decided on the proposals (Yunis, 1991: 179). With

Pericles role as a demagogue is blatantly obvious in his speech, The Funeral Oration , found in The
Landmark Thucydides. In 431 BCE, he is chosen to stand in front of the Athenians in a time of crisis
and raise their spirits through an oration given to honour those who had fallen so far in the
Peloponnesian War. Times of tragedy and crisis can cause uproar among a society and Pericles faces
potential blame from The People. In the first paragraphs of his speech, he speaks of Athenian
ancestors and predecessors who had also stood before The People to give similar speeches. He tells
The People, since [their] ancestors have stamped this custom with their approval, it has become [his]
duty to obey the law (Thuc.2.35). He also adds:
I could have wished that the reputations of many brave men were not to be imperiled in the mouth of a
single individual, to stand or fall according as he spoke well or ill. For it is hard to speak properly
upon a subject where it is even difficult to convince your hearers that you are speaking the truth.
(Thuc.2.35)
Pericles lessens his superiority by admitting to human frailty and the possibility that he could fail
while giving the speech. These disclosures given to The People are used as a security measure for
Pericles; he tells them that he is obligated by law to give the speech and, by referring

I Am A C + Does Not Sit Well With Anyone
A C+ does not sit well with anyone. For me, that great sense of academic disappointment came in the
form of EECS 183 Elementary Programing Concepts. As a freshman, I was incredibly excited to be
exploring the plethora of academic disciplines available to me at the University of Michigan. Having
never been exposed to computer science, I decided to enroll in the introductory course. I was also
heavily influenced by my academic peers and hall mates, many who were interested in programming
apps or websites, and few of whom were pursuing degrees in computer science engineering. With a
slightly skewed sense confidence instilled in me by my friends, I began learning how to program
amidst many other academic subjects I was engulfed in as a Spanish major and pre med prospective.
At first, I couldn t get enough of the course. Every day, I approached the course material as a new, fun,
engaging puzzle that I would need to figure out. It was like learning a language all over again. In fact,
we were learning to program in a new language (C++ at first and then Python to finish the semester)
which made me feel as though I could now communicate with a whole new world of people. I was
very engaged in the homework, lectures, and discussions because I realized I would have to figure out
different ways to solve problems and think in an entirely unique manner than I was used to. However,
I learned quickly that the computer scientist mindset was one that not all students possessed

Reflection On Henry Hudson Trail
This year for service day I traveled to the Henry Hudson Trail, which is part of the Monmouth County
Park system, in order to pick up trash and clean off the trail. This particular location I visited for
service day does not have a specific mission; however this trail offers New Jersey residents the
opportunity to be immersed in nature and enjoy beauty of this state. At this location I expected to see a
lot of trash and dirt that needed to be attended too and cleaned up which was our job. At this trail,
about 10 students and myself walked the trail in the very cold weather picking up trash and cleaning
up all the items that people left behind. Even though the trail did contain some a lot of litter and the
weather was very brutal, the trail was a beautiful location full of lively colors and beautiful trees that
made the trip somewhat enjoyable. Through my volunteering at the Henry Hudson Trail, I now

How Did The Emperor Change Japan
Between the years 1867 and 1912 in Japan, the Emperor Meiji was in command of the Japanese
empire. Meiji was a revolutionary emperor that succeeded on the overthrow of the Tokugawa
shogunate (the last Japanese feudal military government). Meiji s command dramatically transformed
Japan from being a feudal country into one of the greatest powers of the modern world. He changed
Japan by popularizing modernization, westernization and improving the education system of the
country. Nationalism provided the new young innovative and contemporary conservative generation
of japan motivation to grow in the areas concerned; and implemented ideals that encouraged the
notions of the west (westernization), that being industrialism and a new educational system, bringing

against the emperor were defeated, recovering the Emperor s power. When Meiji obtains the control of
the country he transforms Japan into an empire with western advances combined with Japanese

generation be more nationalist towards their country. The new Emperor changes the school system

The Memory Of A Memory Essay
Recalling a memory seems like a simple task but are you actually depicting the events how they
actually happened? Understanding the process our minds undergo during memory recall has helped
greatly in legal cases involving an eyewitness. People generally believe that an eyewitness report
provides completely reliable evidence to a criminal case. However, Elizabeth Loftus of the University
of Washington has found that when an individual recalls a memory it is not described completely as it
occurred but is reconstructed using other information as well. Loftus is a leading researcher in the
memory field of psychology. In this experimental study she proposed that the manner in which a
question is asked influences the individual s answer. Prior to researchers like Loftus legal cases often
came down to a point of the finger from an eyewitness; who consciously or not was not always
reliable. Due to this unreliability Loftus created four experimental methods in relation to typical
eyewitness cases in order to test her theoretical proposition. In the initial study, 150 subjects were
shown a video of a five car chain reaction accident that occurred when a car (Car A) drove through a
stop sign into oncoming traffic. When the film finished the individuals filled out ten questions. One
half of the group s first question was How fast was Car A going when it ran the stop sign? The
remaining individuals first question was How fast was Car A going when it turned right? Questions

Logging tropical hardwoods like teak, mahogany, rosewood and other timber for furniture, building
materials, charcoal and other wood products is big business and creates big profits. Several species of
tropical hardwoods are imported by developed counties, including America, just to build coffins which
are then buried or burned. The demand, extraction and consumption of tropical hardwoods has been so
massive that some countries which have been traditional exporters of tropical hardwoods are now
importing the wood because they have already exhausted their supply by destroying their native
rainforests in slash and burn operations. It is anticipated that The Philippines, Malaysia, The Ivory

In addition to logging for exportation, rainforest wood stays in developing countries for fuel wood and

Theories Of Clinical Depression
Globally, around 350 million people suffer from clinical depression. However, its causes remain
largely unknown. There are many theories that attempt to explain the cause of depression, but none of
them fully explain the disorder. In this essay I will explain the assumptions made in the psychoanalytic
and biological theories around depression.
The field of psychoanalysis, founded by Sigmund Freud, views mental conditions and disturbances
depression included as coming from often forgotten childhood experiences rooted into one s
subconscious. One of Freud s early psychoanalytic theories regarding depression was the child turning
guilt ridden anger on the self, meaning that a child s dissatisfaction with their parental relationships
would clash with their desire to impress their parents, causing them to internalise their bitter and
dissatisfied emotions. This internalisation would lead to self destructive behaviours and depressive
symptoms later in life. Several similar theories have been raised ... Show more content on

Events such as the death of a loved one, financial instability, or general emotional distress all
statistically increase one s likelihood of developing depression, and both of the theories that I have
discussed fail to account for the influence that these current events may have on an individual s mental

does not take any life events at all into account. Psychoanalysis assumes that depression is rooted in
early childhood with little evidence to support this assumption. The biological approach, while still
erasing the effect that life events can have on depression, provides much more valid scientific
evidence to strengthen its theories. Because of this, I believe the biological approach to be a more

track. The distance of plant from Akbarpur is 30km. Tanda town is about 8km far from plant.
Production Transmission: The 4*110MW power electricity is produced at the station using four
different units. Each unit generates 110MW power. The arrangement of each unit is same. Since it is a
thermal power plant, coal is used as the main source of energy. This coal is mainly supplied from the
Dhanbad(Bihar) and other places.Generated electricity is supplied to following station:

The Sandringham House
Sandringham house, as the much loved living place of royal members, has seen its many deaths:
Prince Eddy (the Prince of Wales s eldest son) in 1892, Queen Alexandra in 1925, George V in 1936,
and George VI in 1952. Comparing to Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle, Sandringham house
has its special attractions to royal members for architectural style, living environment, interior or
exterior decoration etc. However, this spectacular building was not the same as what it look like at
present. More than 3 renowned architects were invited to design and reconstruct this house in history.
As time went on and technology developed, almost all elements including style, shape, materials as
well as decoration have changed. This part will introduce these variations in details with respect to
period. The history of the Sandringham estate could be dated from 1686 when document show its sale
by the Cobbe family. Then, in year 1771, it was taken over by Cornish Henley who replaced a
rambling sixteenth century house with a plain, compact, rectangular Georgian building covered in
white painted stucco enlivened by a gable above the front door and a bay window overlooking a lake
to the west (NIGEL R. JONES,2005) The comment sounds negative, but certainly this makes the
interior intensely revealing for interior design historians. According to the description in books, the
house was built in Georgian architectural style with a plain, compact, rectangular shape generally. As

The New Testament Teaches The Livelihood Of Jesus
The importance of the Bible is evident throughout the history of the Church for it is the only source
that teaches the livelihood of Jesus. A believer has to have a general understanding of the Bible like
the main facts like the disciples of Jesus ministry and the relevance of the Old Testament. Yet, the
New Testament has twenty seven books varying in length, only four are going to be the focus, they are
called the Gospels. Although, the New Testament provides new insights to the Bible such as the
emphasis in the uniqueness of each Gospel and how they can be applied to modern society. Beginning
with the book of Matthew, it is declared he is the author of this Gospel when he wrote it in between
the period of 45 60 A.D. Yet, what makes his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although, Matthew emphasizes Jesus as the authoritative Son of God, such as in Matthew 8:23 28
when Jesus calms the storm. This example should be an influence to the Church to trust and have
more faith in Jesus such as believing that Jesus will help a person through their storms in their life
such as financial needs. For Jesus said to the disciples, You have so little faith, why are you so afraid?
(Richards and Richards). However in Mark, he focuses on the Messianic Secret, where Jesus tries to
keep other unknown to him being the Messiah. Yet, in Mark 8:30, Peter answered, You are the
Messiah. Jesus warned them not to tell anyone about him. This portrait is unique to the Church for it is
usually the norm to immediately express ones love for Christ. However, Jesus is stating that
Christianity is more than just the belief in Him; such having faith, reading the Bible daily, prayer,
worship, and congregating with others, to just name a few. Next, is Luke whose concentration pertains
to Cosmopolitan of Jesus. For in Luke 2:30 31, which you have prepared in the sight of all nation: a
light for revelation to the Gentiles, and the glory of you people Israel. (Richards and Richards). Jesus
is referring that He is not discriminate to races, gender, or age. The Church should take this verse
inconsideration when discussing homosexuality in the Church for they should hate the sin not the
sinner. For if a person has a

A Limited Liability Company
iA Limited Liability Company (LLC) is a business structure allowed by state statute. LLCs are
popular because, similar to a corporation, owners have limited personal liability for the debts and
actions of the LLC. Other features of LLCs are more like a partnership, providing management
flexibility and the benefit of pass through taxation.
Owners of an LLC are called members. Since most states do not restrict ownership, members may
include individuals, corporations, other LLCs and foreign entities. There is no maximum number of
members. Most states also permit single member LLCs, those having only one owner.
A few types of businesses generally cannot be LLCs, such as banks and insurance companies. Check
your state s requirements and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
* LLCs in most states are treated as entities separate from their members, whereas in other
jurisdictions[which?] case law has developed deciding LLCs are not considered to have separate legal
standing from their members (see recent D.C. decisions[which?]). * LLCs in some states can be set up
with just one natural person involved. * Less risky to be stolen by fire sale acquisitions (more
protection against hungry investors). * For Real Estate companies, each separate property can be
owned by its own, individual LLC, thereby shielding not only the owners, but their other properties
from cross liability.
Limited liability companies are the popular new choice for business start ups. The LLC has only been
in existence for roughly 26 years and there are some definite pros and cons.
A limited liability company is a creature of state law. Prior to the late 1970s, it had never been a
choice for businesses because it didn t exist. In the late 1970s, the State of Wyoming passed an act
creating it. It took another ten years or so before other states caught on. Once they did, the mad rush
was on to pass legislation allowing for the creation of LLCs in nearly all states. The world of business
entities had been changed forever.
The LLC is a business entity designed to help small business. As a result, most of the positive reasons
for using it are catered to such business. In a general view, the entity is heavily

Using Breaking Free Of Old Ways Of Thinking Outside The Box
Thinking outside the box is a common idiom used to express the idea of breaking free of old ways of
thinking. In a real sense, the walls of the box are the borders of our thoughts. Moving past those
barriers is considered not only a good thing, but a necessary thing. Yet this is not only about travel. I
could have stayed in my home country to study, but I chose instead to bet on myself and apply
internationally. As a result I was offered a full paid scholarship. And took this opportunity to place
myself as far from my comfort zone. I wanted to not just think outside the box, but exist entirely
outside of it.
Saudi Arabia, where I am from, has one of the largest economy in the Arab world. And its fast
growing economy allows it to be a solid ground for many investing activities. I grew up in a family
business that really provided the core of my belief in business and in ones ability to grow and operate
important businesses that can compete and be successful.
I think I ve inherited my passion for learning besides the insatiable curiosity which has served me well
throughout my childhood, school years and academic career from my father, an international
businessman. He taught me to explore the world, constantly seeking to learn more, and to make an
effort to understand more. I watched him for hours as he worked on his meetings, and I also helped
him with contracts, presentations, and marketing proposals growing up. I was fascinated by business
and wanted to know how and

Stereotypes are immensely detrimental to a myriad of people because they abject and discriminate them, as well as cause division and separation amongst certain communities. Breaking stereotypes is important due to the social climate that we are currently in today. Racism and discrimination are ubiquitous because people of colour are painted in a negative light due to the stereotypes they are given. Stereotypes are harmful for many reasons; one being that gender stereotypes, specifically, objectify and are demeaning to women (or anyone who identifies as a female). In my Stereotype Student Interview Protocol, Student #2 told me, ...people think that women are weak...are great at cleaning...and it is their job to take care of the children. • 3. The Effects Of Elevated Carbon Dioxide ( Co2 ) Essay 2. Impact of Elevated Carbon Dioxide (CO2) Carbon dioxide (CO2) is a trace gas accounting for about 0.039 per cent or 390 ppm currently. CO2 concentration increases by 1 to 3 ppm every year primarily because of burning of fossil fuels. In future, by 2100 the atmospheric CO2 concentration should reach 600 to 750 ppm. Plants are directly influenced by increase in CO2 concentration; and increase in CO2 affects many physiological processes like photosynthesis, respiration, transpiration, reproductive processes, and yield. CO2 diffuses from the atmosphere into leaves, via., stomata into mesophyll cells, intercellular spaces, cells, and finally reach chloroplast for photosynthetic process. Increasing CO2 concentration in the atmosphere will enhance the photosynthesis and dry matter production. The response to CO2 varies among species mainly by the enzyme RuBisCo (RuBP). C3 plants readily react by increasing the activity of RuBP carboxylase and by reducing the activity of RuBP oxygenase. Increase in photosynthesis by 25% 75% was observed over doubling of atmospheric CO2. C4 plants show little response to elevated CO2. Crassulacean Acid Metabolism (CAM) plants also showed an increase in photosynthetic rate. The increasing concentration of CO2 by burning of fossil fuels can be reduced by improving the carbon fixation in the plants. Short term exposure of CO2 on plants shows increased photosynthesis, whereas long term exposure shows variation in photosynthesis and also plant growth. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Pros And Cons Of US Immigration On Monday March 6, President Donald Trump signed a revised executive order that bans immigration from six Muslim countries, including Syria, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Yemen, and Sudan. The previous executive order also included Iraq, but was dropped due to the state s significant role in the war on ISIS. This order also bans all refugees from coming into the United States for 120 days for the purpose of stronger security in the U.S. But, there are a few flaws in this ban, like the fact that the none of the six countries have committed a terrorist act on U.S. soil in the past 40 years (Gibbs). • 8. The Classical Theory Of Criminal Activity It is only appropriate to believe that the severity of penalties given to an individual whom committed a crime should be proportionate to the crime in which they engaged in, no more than what is necessary, but enough in order to deter the offender from participating in another crime. This approach is applied in such ways because it is believed that criminal activity is a rational choice, chosen because they perceive it to be in their best interest. Criminals make a rational choice and choose to do criminal acts due to maximum pleasure and minimum pain (Classical School of Criminology, 2012) Cesare Beccaria contributed to the classical theory greatly, and introduced several attributions to the justice system which advanced it immensely. Views were consistent with Beccaria s utilitarian beliefs that sought to maximize the public benefit by achieving the greatest amount of good for the most people . (Newman, Freilich 133 1997; Newman Margongiu, 1997) The Classical Theory has resulted in positive advancements in the justice system for various reasons. Firstly, it is forward looking utilitarian models designed to promote the public good (Freilich, J., 2014, 138), also, it embraces scientific principles to achieve their goals and seek to temper harsh punishments of their times (Freilich, J., 2014, 138). Gym class can be a very stress reliving state of time, others it is a time to gossip and relax. But why is there such a distinct state of difference between the love and hate of gym class? Physical education has been questioned for many years by students. Why do we have to take it? It s the stupidest class ever. Although it is the most hated it should be the most loved. In Ray Bradbury s fictional novel about the horrifying future, he discusses topics that, politically and socially, can relate to Judith Ortiz Cofer s short story; The Paterson Public Library. However, even though she knows that her feelings are real, she is not yet comfortable with declaring her love in such a way. In her sonnet, Browning compares what she is feeling to a lit torch in rough winds: And hold the torch out, while the winds are rough, / Between our faces, to cast light on each? / I drop it at thy feet (3 5). In this metaphor, the torch acts to enlighten what is between both Browning and her beloved. Except, with external forces (such as the rough winds) battling against her increasing emotions, she feels as though she must focus on protecting her feelings. By the end of this quote, Browning drops the torch, thus representing the fact that she can t go through with describing what she feels for her beloved. Ultimately, she tells her love, My hand to hold my spirit so far off / From myself me that I should bring thee proof / In words, of love hid in me out of reach (6 8). Here, she states that she can t go through with risking herself. For now, he will have to settle with silence as his only answer. Disease resistance of newer varieties is also often better than that found in their older counterparts. There are good standard varieties that can not be ignored, however. A comparison of a favorite variety with a new introduction is a worthwhile gardening experience. There is no test quite as meaningful as a comparison in your own garden. As you plant a garden this season, most likely you have a supply of seeds left from last year or even previous years. Whether to plant these seeds depends on both the type of seeds and the way they have been stored. Seeds stored properly from last year may germinate well in the garden this year. Most garden seeds may be kept for one to two years and still germinate well. The ability to germinate drops off faster in some others. Among those with the shortest life are sweet corn, okra, onion, parsley, parsnip and salsify. Although these seeds may germinate reasonably well after one year, the germination rate and vigor is seldom adequate after two years. Among seeds with a slightly longer life and good germination up to three years are bean, carrot, English pea and southern pea. Most other vegetable seeds will germinate well up to their fourth or fifth year when kept in cool, dry storage conditions. In a germination test, we may find that when testing a group of old seeds, a large number of seed will germinate. Still, when seeds from this same group are planted into the garden, germination is poor. As seeds age, they may still be viable, but lose vigor. When exposed to the less favorable germination conditions outdoors, the weaker seedlings may not survive long enough to emerge from the soil. When using old seeds, plant more thickly than recommended. This not only helps to get rid of the old seed faster, but improves the chances for having an adequate stand of plants. • 20. The Importance Of Walking Under Steady State Conditions The current knowledge available from the literature on walking at different speeds assumes a direct relationship between the level of activity of lower extremities muscles and speed. Several studies in the past have looked into this relationship for walking under steady state conditions. In this section we review these studies and their findings and we highlight limitations of their approaches and discuss the suggestions to expand the analysis to walking under transient conditions. Hof et al. [21] were one of the first groups to measure surface electromyograms (EMGs) from subjects walking at different speeds. Five speeds were instructed for over ground walking and EMGs were measured for ten walking steps at each speed. Parts of EMG profiles showed considerable changes with speed while other parts did not show any changes. The authors suggested that the activity at any speed could be estimated through a linear interpolation of sum of the profile at the lowest speed and a function that represents the increase in the activity per unit increase of normalized speed. One limitation of the calculations here was lack of statistical tests. Because of this shortcoming the linear interpolation model could be used to make reliable conclusions only about the effect of speed on the activity in the vicinity of the peak of each signal. Without building the confidence intervals we cannot infer the effect of speed on activation profiles over the entire gait cycle. In addition to lack of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Introduction In the race to develop alternatives in the recent era, chitin and derivatives has showed an immense potential of being used as an alternate polysaccharide source and as a biopolymer in various sectors spanned from medical and food processing to waste management. Chitin gets its name from the Greek word, Chiton , the meaning of which is a coat of mail. It first surfaced in 1811, used by Bradconnot (Shahidi et al. 1999). It is reported to be a biopolymer that is 2nd widely available on the face of earth after cellulose (Shahidi et al. 1999; Fernando et al. 2016), chemically, chits is a poly ( β (14) N acetyl D glucosamine), that first came into existence in 1884 (Rinaudo 2006). In nature, chitin occurs in an ordered crystalline microfibrils which is a form of structural component found within the exoskeleton of arthropods or within the cell walls of microbes such as fungi and yeast (Rinaudo 2006). Although these are the main sources of chitin, there are several other plants and animal within the lower kingdoms which consists chitin that requires it for strength and reinforcement (Rinaudo 2006). These influences are especially visible in architecture. Looking specifically at medieval Spain and the buildings that were constructed in this time frame, one can see the influence different cultures had throughout the region. Some of the best examples for this come in the form of Gothic Cathedrals. Greatly inspired by the French structures that started the movement, many Spanish cathedrals exhibit not elements of French influence, but also Islamic influence as well. While most study of Spanish cathedrals has focused on southern Spain and narrowed in on identifying the Islamic influence within their design, northern Spain also provides some wonderful examples of the influence from both French and Islamic culture, particularly in Leon and Burgos respectively. Making Causal Inferences In Psychology Although many people believe that the only way to confidently make causal inferences in the psychology world is through true experiments, I believe that observational and other quasi experiments can be just as effective for making cause and effect conclusions. One of the cardinal rules in psychology, of course, is that correlation does not equal causation. While this is true, I strongly believe that when certain conditions are met, we can infer causation even with nonexperimental data. I have learned about many of these conditions in my Advanced Research Methods textbook and completely agree with the author s opinion on this topic. Basically, causality has a probabilistic meaning rather than a deterministic one. When making causality ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With this type of perspective, I believe it is fair to make conclusions about personality as a cause of behavior (despite the fact that we cannot manipulate a person s stable dispositions) so long as the model investigating how a trait causes an outcome is well designed, replicated, and combined with other kinds of evidence (pg 10). One study that might be fair to draw causal inferences from analyzed the relationship between explanatory style and academic achievement (pg 287). In this study, researchers found that first year college students with optimistic explanatory styles obtained a higher GPA than students with pessimistic explanatory styles (presumably because of greater motivation and perseverance in the face of adversity) even after controlling for intellectual ability (with SAT scores). What makes me lean toward a more cause effect rather than a correlational explanation is: 1.) This research is not saying that an optimistic explanatory style necessarily causes students to earn higher GPAs, but that optimists, because of their tendency to show greater motivation and persistence (despite times of hardship), develop strategies that are related to higher achievement. The debate video was two teams debating to sway the audience s opinion on whether the U.S. is to blame for the Mexican Drug Wars. While each person had their own unique ideas, it seemed likely most or all of them agreed on one point, and that was that the U.S. did share some of the responsibility for the drug war. The alarming incline to drug related and co occurring maladaptive behaviors has created a dedicated science to better understand and define this problematic situation. Definition allows the therapeutic process to evolve around the symptomatic problem in order to deliver the hope of recovery. Social stigmas often view drug abuse and addiction as one in the same, but when viewed by the clinician, they take on an important role in defining treatment. Drug abuse is viewed as a reoccurring use of a substance outside of its intended purpose resulting in negative consequences. The use of drugs in any form, is often voluntary and has a high risk factor of developing dependency that leads to addiction. The American Society of Addiction Medicine has characterized addiction by the inability to consistently abstain, impaired behavior control, craving, diminished cognitive behavior in regards to relationships, and dysfunctional emotional response (ASAM, 2011). At this point, the progressive substance use cannot be changed without a course of treatment. Understanding the process our minds undergo during memory recall has helped greatly in legal cases involving an eyewitness. People generally believe that an eyewitness report provides completely reliable evidence to a criminal case. However, Elizabeth Loftus of the University of Washington has found that when an individual recalls a memory it is not described completely as it occurred but is reconstructed using other information as well. Loftus is a leading researcher in the memory field of psychology. In this experimental study she proposed that the manner in which a question is asked influences the individual s answer. Prior to researchers like Loftus legal cases often came down to a point of the finger from an eyewitness; who consciously or not was not always reliable. Due to this unreliability Loftus created four experimental methods in relation to typical eyewitness cases in order to test her theoretical proposition. In the initial study, 150 subjects were shown a video of a five car chain reaction accident that occurred when a car (Car A) drove through a stop sign into oncoming traffic. The field of psychoanalysis, founded by Sigmund Freud, views mental conditions and disturbances depression included as coming from often forgotten childhood experiences rooted into one s subconscious. One of Freud s early psychoanalytic theories regarding depression was the child turning guilt ridden anger on the self, meaning that a child s dissatisfaction with their parental relationships would clash with their desire to impress their parents, causing them to internalise their bitter and dissatisfied emotions. • 44. The Sandringham House Sandringham house, as the much loved living place of royal members, has seen its many deaths: Prince Eddy (the Prince of Wales s eldest son) in 1892, Queen Alexandra in 1925, George V in 1936, and George VI in 1952. Comparing to Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle, Sandringham house has its special attractions to royal members for architectural style, living environment, interior or exterior decoration etc. However, this spectacular building was not the same as what it look like at present. More than 3 renowned architects were invited to design and reconstruct this house in history. As time went on and technology developed, almost all elements including style, shape, materials as well as decoration have changed. This part will introduce these variations in details with respect to period. The history of the Sandringham estate could be dated from 1686 when document show its sale by the Cobbe family. Then, in year 1771, it was taken over by Cornish Henley who replaced a rambling sixteenth century house with a plain, compact, rectangular Georgian building covered in white painted stucco enlivened by a gable above the front door and a bay window overlooking a lake to the west (NIGEL R. JONES,2005) The comment sounds negative, but certainly this makes the interior intensely revealing for interior design historians. According to the description in books, the house was built in Georgian architectural style with a plain, compact, rectangular shape generally. As the exterior ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. The New Testament Teaches The Livelihood Of Jesus The importance of the Bible is evident throughout the history of the Church for it is the only source that teaches the livelihood of Jesus. A believer has to have a general understanding of the Bible like the main facts like the disciples of Jesus ministry and the relevance of the Old Testament. Yet, the New Testament has twenty seven books varying in length, only four are going to be the focus, they are called the Gospels. Although, the New Testament provides new insights to the Bible such as the emphasis in the uniqueness of each Gospel and how they can be applied to modern society. Beginning with the book of Matthew, it is declared he is the author of this Gospel when he wrote it in between the period of 45 60 A.D. Yet, what makes his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although, Matthew emphasizes Jesus as the authoritative Son of God, such as in Matthew 8:23 28 when Jesus calms the storm. This example should be an influence to the Church to trust and have more faith in Jesus such as believing that Jesus will help a person through their storms in their life such as financial needs. For Jesus said to the disciples, You have so little faith, why are you so afraid? (Richards and Richards). However in Mark, he focuses on the Messianic Secret, where Jesus tries to keep other unknown to him being the Messiah. Yet, in Mark 8:30, Peter answered, You are the Messiah. Jesus warned them not to tell anyone about him. This portrait is unique to the Church for it is usually the norm to immediately express ones love for Christ. However, Jesus is stating that Christianity is more than just the belief in Him; such having faith, reading the Bible daily, prayer, worship, and congregating with others, to just name a few. Next, is Luke whose concentration pertains to Cosmopolitan of Jesus. For in Luke 2:30 31, which you have prepared in the sight of all nation: a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and the glory of you people Israel. (Richards and Richards). Jesus is referring that He is not discriminate to races, gender, or age. The Church should take this verse inconsideration when discussing homosexuality in the Church for they should hate the sin not the sinner. For if a person has a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. A Limited Liability Company iA Limited Liability Company (LLC) is a business structure allowed by state statute. LLCs are popular because, similar to a corporation, owners have limited personal liability for the debts and actions of the LLC. Other features of LLCs are more like a partnership, providing management flexibility and the benefit of pass through taxation. Owners of an LLC are called members. Since most states do not restrict ownership, members may include individuals, corporations, other LLCs and foreign entities. There is no maximum number of members. Most states also permit single member LLCs, those having only one owner. A few types of businesses generally cannot be LLCs, such as banks and insurance companies. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... * LLCs in most states are treated as entities separate from their members, whereas in other jurisdictions[which?] case law has developed deciding LLCs are not considered to have separate legal standing from their members (see recent D.C. decisions[which?]). * LLCs in some states can be set up with just one natural person involved. * Less risky to be stolen by fire sale acquisitions (more protection against hungry investors). * For Real Estate companies, each separate property can be owned by its own, individual LLC, thereby shielding not only the owners, but their other properties from cross liability. Limited liability companies are the popular new choice for business start ups. The LLC has only been in existence for roughly 26 years and there are some definite pros and cons. A limited liability company is a creature of state law. Prior to the late 1970s, it had never been a choice for businesses because it didn t exist. In the late 1970s, the State of Wyoming passed an act creating it. It took another ten years or so before other states caught on. Once they did, the mad rush was on to pass legislation allowing for the creation of LLCs in nearly all states. The world of business entities had been changed forever. • 47. Using Breaking Free Of Old Ways Of Thinking Outside The Box Thinking outside the box is a common idiom used to express the idea of breaking free of old ways of thinking. In a real sense, the walls of the box are the borders of our thoughts. Moving past those barriers is considered not only a good thing, but a necessary thing. Yet this is not only about travel. I could have stayed in my home country to study, but I chose instead to bet on myself and apply internationally. As a result I was offered a full paid scholarship. And took this opportunity to place myself as far from my comfort zone. I wanted to not just think outside the box, but exist entirely outside of it. Saudi Arabia, where I am from, has one of the largest economy in the Arab world. And its fast growing economy allows it to be a solid ground for many investing activities. I grew up in a family business that really provided the core of my belief in business and in ones ability to grow and operate important businesses that can compete and be successful. I think I ve inherited my passion for learning besides the insatiable curiosity which has served me well throughout my childhood, school years and academic career from my father, an international businessman. He taught me to explore the world, constantly seeking to learn more, and to make an effort to understand more. I watched him for hours as he worked on his meetings, and I also helped him with contracts, presentations, and marketing proposals growing up.
