THE MERGER OF AIRTRAN BY SOUTHWEST AIRLINES:WILL THE ORGANIZATIONAL
CULTURES MERGE?
Southwest s merger with AirTran, valued at over US$3 billion, makes Southwest the fourth largest
American carrier. The merger increases Southwest s presence in a number of major cities, most
notably New York (LaGuardia) and Washington D.C. (Ronald Reagan National Airport). Thanks to
AirTran, it now flies into the coveted Atlanta s Hartsfield Jackson Atlanta International, the world s
busiest airport, along with a number of international vacation destinations such as Aruba,
Puerto Rico and the Bahamas. Southwest has grown organically, acquiring only two other smaller
carriers Morris Air and Muse Air in the 1980s. This has made it easier to maintain its ... Show more

. . This is a very different approach, taking thousands of AirTran employees, dumping them into the
system and hoping it works. It s a pretty risky move, says Peter Capelli, a Wharton management
professor in 2010. Cappelli adds that airline mergers are always difficult because integration has to
take place while a carrier continues to carry out complex operations. Thousands of employees can t
easily be put through an orientation program in the merger s short time frame and the information
systems supporting the complex operations of two airlines can t be easily changed.23 In November
2011, Southwest Airlines more than 6,000 pilots and AirTran Airways 1,700 pilots overwhelmingly
approved a plan to combine the seniority lists of the two carriers, with five out of six pilots voting in
favor.24 The personnel systems have to be modified to reflect the new seniority and pay systems. The
disparate cultures of Southwest and AirTran are also posing problems for the merger of their online
reservation systems. Southwest currently is planning to switch from Sabre or Amadeus to better
accommodate merchandising and international flights. AirTran s reservations system vendor is
Navitaire.25 AirTran and Southwest have diametrically opposed views on distribution through online
travel agencies. Southwest usually sells its tickets via telephone or through its Web site whereas
AirTran prefers online reservation systems such as Orbitz and

The Issue of Gun Control Legislation Essay
The Issue of Gun Control Legislation One of the most controversial issues in our society is gun
control legislation. Violence associated with guns is increasing every year and something must be
done to stop it. Gun legislation varies in every state. In some states gun policy is stricter than in other
states. Gun legislation should be abolished in favor of federal gun legislation. To analyze the problem
with gun violence today you must understand the gun laws that are in effect. The gun legislation in the
United States are mostly based on a state level. One federal law for example, prohibits the
manufacture of all plastic guns. The federal government tightly restricts fully automatic guns.

The death rate with gun violence is somewhat uncertain. About one in seven gunshot wounds known
to police result in death. However, this doesn t count all of the injuries not reported to police. This
means that the actually rate is lower than the one mentioned above. Gunshot wounds are more likely
to result in death than those inflicted by a knife. The knife is the weapon considered to be the next
most lethal. One of the common question among the American public is , where do criminals obtain
guns? A recent survey asked many criminals this very question. Obtaining from friends was the most
prevalent answer. This was about 40%. Off the street was second with 14%, followed by gun shops,
which was 11%. Other sources included pawnshops 6%, fences 5%, and family members and drug
dealers 4% each (Wright,1986). It does seem very easy to get gun by this study, but it is hard to stop
them. The handgun is the favorite among criminal activity. Criminals usually prefer a handgun with a
short barrel (Shields,1981). This is because it s extremely lethal and is so easily concealed. When it is
stuck inside the belt, only the grip or

Long Distance Moving Is Not Only Hard On The Body, And The...
Long distance moving is not only hard on the body, and the mind, but the soul. That cloudy Thursday,
I felt my soul beginning to crumble. I laid back in the passenger seat of our modest rust colored
Toyota, barely listening to music playing over my headphones, mostly wallowing in my gentle throbs
of weariness, and a stressful fear of prolonging the journey. I knew my mother felt the same way, from
the way she clutched at the steering wheel, and from the way her sunken eyes looked for the next turn.
It didn t help me, the fifteen year old city kid from Chicago, when we pulled off the Ohio Turnpike, to
a smaller highway, to an even smaller one, to then exit next to a rusted out truck stop, and onto a small
two lane road. Finally, my mom ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
No distant wail of a siren. There wasn t even wind that night. Just plain, unadulterated, silence. I was
alone with my thoughts. It was depressing. It was exciting. But most of all, it was frightening. It wasn
t like this small town was any sort of final destination, I told myself. I had invested a lot of hope into
the idea of a fresh start, but not all of it. I had that desperate teenage need to escape, and thought of
Ohio as a place to get away. I thought of it as a new life. A place to get away from the cramped
stairwells, up to cramped apartments. A place to get away from the display case of city life. A place to
get away from the clouds, those clouds that filled the sky. And so what? I told myself. So what if this
isn t the promised land? So what if you didn t know what you liked about that place until you lost it? It
s still different, and It s still not a final destination, right? The next morning I awoke to find two men
standing in the driveway. Their bloated stomachs hanging down over their belts. Torn, Beat, and
ragged baseball were caps cocked back upon their not so closely shaved heads. The older one of the
pair seemed to be letting himself in the front door, while the younger man examined the Toyota
suspiciously. Mom. I called into the kitchen, where my mother was vigorously stirring a pot of milk

Human Social Animal
1333 words essay on Man is a social animal
Bharat Kumar
Traditionally, there have been two answers to the problem of the relationship between the individual
and his society. One is the social contract theory and the other is the organic theory, which we have
already discussed in detail.
According to the social contract theory, society is the result of an agreement or contract entered into
by men who originally lived in a pre social state. Thus society is made by man and he is more real
than his creation. On the other hand, according to the organic theory, society is an organic. Just as the
parts of an animal body are functionally related and none can exist isolated from the rest, similarly, the
members of society are functionally ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
No one can become a human being unless he lives with society. Apart from fulfilling the basic needs
of a man, the human society satisfies his desires, dreams and aspirations by the solid co operation of
his fellow beings. In society, man can easily fulfill his various needs such as education, protection,
nature, comfort, opportunity, equipment and so on. The self preservation desired by every human
being, is a need which society alone fulfills. Therefore, it is not due to his nature alone but also due to
his necessities, man lives in society and regarded as a social animal.
3. Society determines human personality
Lastly, man lives in society for his mental, psychological and intellectual development. Society both
liberates and limits our potentialities as individual and moulds our attitudes, beliefs, morals and ideals.
It preserves the culture, customs, folkways, mores, norms, values etc. and transmits it to succeeding
generations. One of the important functions of society is to preserve the social heritage, which is
intimately related to human beings. The social heritage helps his personality to develop in society. It is
no doubt that the personality of an individual cannot develop at all in the absence of social heritage.
Thus, society not only moulds and directs human personality but also determines the personality of the
individuals. The personality, which is the total quality of individual s

Alicia In Wonder Tierra
On Friday, November 18th, I attended the play Alicia in Wonder Tierra which took place at California
State University of San Bernardino. The play was put together and made possible by many students,
professors and many others who dedicated their time and donations. I was fortunate enough to have
been able to work with Sara on the props and the paint portion of the stage and set up. It was a great
experience working on the props and seeing it all come together and being able to see it all finally
being used to create the vision of a producer and director. The idea of Alicia in Wonder Tierra came
from Silvia Gonzalez, she had created the characters based on people and their way of seeing
Hispanics and/or Latin Americans. The main character, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The costumes used on a few of the puppets were traditional Mexican ponchos. The Mexican ponchos
went well with the theme because it was a Mexican journey that Alicia went through so the ponchos
played a significant role. There was also Alicia, she wore regular skinny jeans with a denim vest and a
t shirt. The clothing Alicia wore was casual clothing, similar clothes to what I wear. The clothing
Alicia wore was a good representation of a Mexican American because she did not understand the
traditional Mexican wardrobe, the casual clothing she was wearing is more of American attire. The
puppet who accompanies Alicia on her journey, Ramon, was wearing a traditional mariachi suit. The
character also had a mustache and a trumpet, they were two good characteristics because when most
Mexicans think of a male mariachi, he has a thick mustache and the instrument he plays. Some other
costumes that are were significant were those of the Elvira gang. The Elvira gang was made of a group
of three girls, the tree girls wore black clothing, wore their black hair teased enormously high and
wore a lot of mascara. They each carried around two chicken claws and used them to scare the other
characters, another accessory they carried was a few bottles of hairspray. Each of the costumes were
able to represent who the characters were. The costumes each had their own unique representation of

Q1: What are the specificities of the three worlds displayed in the film? In the film, there were three

In the new world, everything was mostly gray. If there was color, it was very vibrant and centralized to
a specific location. For example, the car showed different colors of being pink and green. The old
world on the other hand had tons of colors. Everything was colorful, very little gray was around, and it
all just seemed more interesting to the viewer. This various range of colors had to do with the idea that
Tati was hinting that even though the new world has tons of different and new technologies, there was
not as much culture within it. The old world had lively colors, showing how different the two worlds
really were. In fact, Tati might have been showing how to new world is not all it s cracked up to be as

accounting, marketing, and human resource. The Cameron School of Business also has contact to an
organization called the Cameron Executive Network. This is a program where retired and current
senior executives mentor students in the business school. The size of UNC W is very reasonable. In
the fall 2014 semester, there were 14,611 students, both graduate and undergraduate, enrolled. The
student faculty ratio is 16:1. The cost of attending UNC W is very sensible, as the annual budget for

Design A Simple Electric Motor
OBJECTIVE:
The objective of this project is to design a simple electric motor. This motor can be used for small
scale applications. The objective mainly focuses on describing the principle used inside an electric
motor by designing a miniature of the same and to study various characteristics of an electric motor.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
To design a simple electric motor and understand its working, we need to have knowledge about the
following,
 Electric field and Magnetic field
 Faraday s Law of Electromagnetic Induction
 Fleming s Left hand Thumb rule
 Lorentz Force
 Torque
ELECTRIC FIELD:
The electric field is a vector. The source of electric field is electric charge. The two types of charges

There are two poles in a magnet. They are North Pole and South Pole. Unlike electric charges, they
always come in pairs. There are different types of magnetic materials, they are
 Paramagnetic
 Diamagnetic
 Ferromagnetic, etc
The magnetic field exhibits the following properties
 Like charges repel and unlike charges attract
 Force acts along the line joining the charges
The magnetic field are also produced by the moving electric charges. Electric and magnetic fields are
two interrelated fields. FARADAYS LAW OF ELECTROMAGNETIC INDUCTION:
Faraday s law of electromagnetic induction states that current carrying conductor placed in a moving
magnetic field, induces an electromotive force in any closed circuit, equal to the rate of change of
magnetic flux. The electromotive force is proportional to the number of turns of the coil.
Electromagnetic induction is seen in two ways.
 One is when a magnet is moved near a coil, depending on the movement of the magnet, current is
induced in the coil
 The other way is that when a looped coil is connected to an electric source it induces current in the
adjacent coil due to coupling

Demoralization In The Awakening
To demoralize someone is to dishearten or discourage them and cause them to lose hope. Kate Chopin
uses words like depressed (56), hopeless (56) and despondency (p115) to describe Edna, the heroine,
in The Awakening. Coupling this description with Edna taking her life at the end of the novel and
Chopin s own inferred demoralization, due to the almost universal aversion to The Awakening, the
natural conclusion is that it is a work of great personal demoralization , (Companion 5) as Michael
Levenson states. Levenson suggests most modernist authors and artists paint a bleak picture of their
time period because they are demoralized. Although the portrait Chopin paints of female oppression in
1899 is to some degree demoralizing, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mrs. Pontellier s soul is shaken, causing a seismic shift in her, but she is not the only one affected as
all of the partygoers were moved by Mademoiselle Reisz s performance. This alludes to Kate Chopin s
desire to inspire her audience in the same manner as she purposely chooses a piece of music by the
renowned composer Frederic Chopin. She suggests that art is an important aspect of an awakening as
it has the ability to touch the soul. In the next scene Mrs. Pontellier suddenly learns to swim and
Chopin describes, A feeling of exultation overtook her, as if some power of significant import had
been given her to control the working of her body and her soul. (p27). Mrs. Pontellier now fully awake
realizes that she has control over body, she has autonomy, and Chopin emphasizes her individuality by
referring to her as Edna. Her awakening is important because in 1899, women did not have autonomy;
their main purpose was domesticity. The church and patriarchy reined over women who were the
property of their husbands and considered inferior to men with no sexual desire. Chopin presents Mr.
Pontellier as a perfect specimen of late nineteenth century patriarchy. Some women thrive in this
culture as Chopin demonstrates through Mrs. Ratignolle. However, for many women, like Edna this
world was suffocating. The natural reaction to this oppression is feminism, but Chopin does not
preach feminism in her novel.

Cathedral Essay
Cathedral
Sometimes we have to look beyond what we see on the outside to understand something more deeply.
In the short story Cathedral By Raymond Carver, the narrator has an attitude of being selfish, and
jealous through the story. The narrator s wife invites a blind man, Robert, to come stay in their house
for a short time while the man visits family members of his own wife who recently passed. The
narrator is not enthusiastic because blind people make the narrator uncomfortable, mainly because the
narrator has no real experience with the blind. In addition, to his uneasiness with the blind the narrator
is uncomfortable with the relationship his wife and the blind man have. The wife and Robert, the blind
man, have maintained a close ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The narrator assumes that that he is more capable of making his own wife happy than Robert simply
because he can see. When the narrator makes this assumption it shows that he doesn t know the
difference between seeing and understanding something more deeply for the true meaning.
When Robert first arrives, things are a little awkward. The narrator isn t sure what to say to Robert. As
the night goes on they share many drinks, eat dinner, and even smoke some dope. Even the simple
concept of smoking weed was one of the first real connections the narrator and Robert had. The
narrator, seeing that Robert wanted to smoke some dope with him might have made him feel more
comfortable and think Robert as just an normal, easy going man. Once the wife falls asleep on the
couch, we begin to see how Robert begins to open up the narrators eyes. Robert is an insightful and
compassionate man who takes the time to truly listen to others , which helps him to see them better
than he could with his eyes. These are qualities that the narrator is strongly lacking which start to
inspire him to change. The only thing on television is a documentary about cathedrals the narrator
wonders if Robert knows what a cathedral looks like so he asks him. Roberts asks him to describe the
cathedral for him, because he can t picture one. I stared hard at the shot of the cathedral on the TV.
How could I even begin to describe it? But say my life

The Causes Of Domestic Violence
Domestic violence is a big problem in the United States today. Domestic violence is anything from
sibling abuse to elder abuse. Domestic violence has many names. Spouse abuse talks about abuse from
a husband/wife or a boyfriend/girlfriend. Domestic violence is not just physical, but is behavior that is
intended to control another person through the use of verbal assaults.
One big cause of domestic violence is stress. Things such as being unemployed, drugs, alcohol, or
little money can cause a person a lot of stress. Also, it can sometimes be due to the abuser being
abused themselves in their childhood. Statistics show that many people who are abused in their
childhood become abusers themselves.
When domestic violence occurs there are many types of abuse that can happen. The first kind is
physical violence. Physical violence includes anything that is intended to physically injure the person.
The second type of abuse is emotional abuse which is consistently doing or saying things to
emotionally harm another person.
The third kind is sexual abuse. Just because someone is married to someone doesn t mean that they
have to have sex with them. Even though these are different kinds of abuse, all of them are harming in
their own ways.
People who have been abused think that there is no way out. They continue to put up with the abuse
and eventually learn to deal with it. Also due to the history of domestic violence, it is still seen as
acceptable in some ways and not a large threat

How Does Henry Fleming Change In The Red Badge Of Courage
The Red Badge of Courage
War can force young soldiers to grow up quickly. In The Red Badge of Courage, Henry Fleming is no
exception. He enters the war with romanticized ideas of what war is like, and leaves with those ideas
very much changed.
In the beginning of the book, the author describes Henry s beliefs about the war. He thinks war is
about the glory soldiers receive or dying a hero s death. As he gets into the first battle, he is suddenly
faced with the reality. Passing be dead soldiers and watching the battle before him causes Henry to
flee. As he is running away, he happens to stumble upon a rotting corpse, this makes the realities
become even more clear. Shaken from the encounter, he moves on.
As Henry is trying to find ways to justify running from the battle, he happens to overhear a few men
talking about the very same battle. His side had won, and Henry is faced with the harsh truth, Henry
ran out of fear. Not because he though that the soldiers fighting alongside him would lose, but because
he was afraid only for his own life. As he is thinking about all of this, Henry finally comes across
other soldiers. As he inspects them more closely however, he notices that they are all badly wounded.

My First Day Of Math
I am writing to you to talk about the complicated semester I have had in Math.
Our first day of math we talked about the Handshake Problem. We needed to figure out how many
handshakes there would be in our class of sixteen students but we could not shake the same hands
twice. Our class got in a circle began to model out the problem by shaking each other s hand but then
we had to figure out a formula. A common method that I have used throughout the whole semester is
making a table. I made a table and was able to make the conclusion that the number of handshakes
were increasing by counting numbers. By that time class had ended and for homework we needed to
come up with a formula for this problem and reflect. When I first tried to find an equation for this
problem is 16 x 15 = 240. This equation did not work because I was counting for shaking the same
handshakes twice. If I would have divided it 240 by 2 I would have got 120 and that would have been
the correct answer. After careful discuss, in class and out of class thinking our final conclusion was
that the formula was n(n 1)/2. N is for the number of people that come into the room. N 1 is the one
less hand the next person will have to shake from the previous person. This equation worked for any
number of people that needed to shake hands. One of the goals of the class is to acquire numerous
strategies for approaching and solving unfamiliar mathematical problems and the habits of posing new
problems. My professor

Simply Stated, Research Is A Means To Answer A Question
Simply stated, research is a means to answer a question (Mertler, 2014). There are convenient and
comfortable sources such as tradition, authority, and common sense to consult for an answer to a
question (2014). Unfortunately, these sources are unreliable and include biases of some degree (2014).
To answer a question using valid and reliable data, the scientific method is utilized (2014). In
traditional educational research, there is the application of the scientific method to educational topics,
phenomena, or questions in search of answers (2014, p. 6) which aims to develop new theories or to
discover generalized principles and is performed by outside experts (Efron Ravid, 2013). Practitioners

Once my research plan is approved and all requirements have been fulfilled to continue this DP

I will collect and analyze data gathered during the implementation of my research plan (2014). Once
the acting stage has been completed, I will consult my colleagues in the STEM department and the
students who participated in the study to develop a plan of action (2014). The development of a plan

I have always wondered why do they treat us like they way they do? What is the real problem?
Many Americans do not see the effects it could have on African Americans down the road. Living in
poverty will continue for decades if the only jobs available for us are low income jobs. We always
have to work harder to get to where the whites are, it may take us a year to have something so simple
that they can get in a day. Hate will continue and poor schooling will continue. We have faith in our
children and we want the best of the best for them just as anyone else. Taking hand me down books, or
even using materials that are not legible, are not good learning materials. I want to be able to say that I
made a difference for those who are coming in this world a while from now to make sure they have it
better than I did. I want to fight for these rights, even if I dont have the chance to live free. I know my
works will benefit for one of my fellow brothers or sisters.
The United States, Virginia, and local Cities, need to establish a law or ruling that all men and women
should be treated equally no matter what your skin color is. We all bleed the same blood and we all
have different outer appearances. Why can t we get together and become one? And happy. It is not just
the blacks who get mistreated it is also the Chinese, Mexicans, and even Philippines. These people are

Ducks Unlimited Vs. Delta Waterfowl
Ducks Unlimited vs. Delta Waterfowl Even though there are many ways to conserve waterfowl, there
technically are not any wrong ways. However, one could argue that there are better ways. That debate
rages on between sportsmen and environmental conservationists alike. There are two big organizations
when it comes to conserving waterfowl and wetlands, Ducks Unlimited and Delta Waterfowl. Both
groups are able to raise millions of dollars for waterfowl due to their enormous amount of members.
However, I feel that Ducks Unlimited is the better conservation group because they can maintain and
manage the landscape of an ecosystem effectively, and they are a greater political force compared to
Delta Waterfowl. Ducks Unlimited was founded by Joseph ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Ducks Unlimited tries to revert these watersheds back to their natural levels by draining the wetlands
that have extremely high levels of contaminants in the water. They then clean the soil in the habitat
and find a way to decrease the extra contaminates from entering the watershed. Next they will pump
healthy water back into the wetlands and install buffer strips that act like a filter that will catch the
extra nutrients and silt. The restoration of grasslands and forests is extremely important when it comes
to breeding grounds for ducks. Dabbling Ducks use the tall grass found around ponds or in marshes to
build nest and raise their young. Diving Ducks will flock to flooded forest areas and build a nest inside
the holes of a tree and they will raise their young from above the ground. In recent years these habitats
have been reduced significantly for farming and other purposes. In order to restore these habitats
Ducks Unlimited must first purchase the land from the landowner. After they have the rights to the
property they will begin to make changes to the area so it can be a more suitable ecosystem for
waterfowl. When restoring grasslands Ducks Unlimited will replant the local grasses and dig ponds in
the area, these actions will help hatchlings survive to adulthood. After these properties have been
restored Ducks Unlimited will donate the land to government agencies that

Border Wall Research Papers
12 billion dollars, that is certainly a lot of money (McFadyen)! On average, that is how much the
United States loses each year from border security. In order to stop illegal immigrants and drug
smugglers from entering the U.S. from Mexico through the border, a wall must be built.
In previous years, many countries and territories around the world have attempted to build walls, and
many have had very much success. For example, Most of the walls built after World War 2 and the
Cold War still exist today. There were a total of 110 walls built between that time period. Professor
Nazli Avdan led a study that had a goal of identifying if a border wall reduced or increased the risk of
a transnational terrorist attack. This study found that since the year 1900, transnational terrorist attacks
have seen a thirteen percent annual decrease in countries with border walls (Border fences
reduce...attacks). This has been a real focal point that President Donald Trump has used to get people
to agree with him. Another reason of his includes the disrupting of the funneling of illicit money and
drugs into the United States of America (Border fences reduce...attacks). The bonus of the building of
the wall is that it will be a visible sign of the government taking action. Decreasing illegal
immigration was Donald Trump s main plan for the wall. Research has shown that only about 9,000 of
the average hundreds of thousands of people that attempt to illegally immigrate across the border each

Descriptive Essay Tree
Ira, come help me set up the tree. My mama called to me from downstairs. Coming mom! I replied
with excitement. Why was I excited? It was the first day of Chanukah, and we had to set up the New
Year s tree. It was a little tradition of ours. In Europe , where my mom grew up, New Years was a big
thing. Some people even put up trees, and my family was one of those people. When I got downstairs,
my mom had already put up the tree in the living room next to the TV, but there were no ornament on
it yet. The ornaments are over there. Mom said pointing to a bucket full of decorations. I walked over
to the bucket and saw the ornaments. They immediately put a smile on my face. The beautiful shiny
golden spheres had always made me happy. Maybe the golden decorations made me so happy was
because of the fun and good times it symbolized. I always knew that after I put them up that it would
be a start to a very enjoyable experience. After we had finished putting up the decorations, I could
hear the door opening. When I rushed to the door to see who it was, I was pleasantly surprised to see
Papa, uncle Nathan, aunt Rebecca, and my cousin Samuel. As they rushed out of the cold weather
inside, aunt Rebecca kissed me on both cheeks. Oh Ira, it s so nice to see you! Are you hungry? Aunt
Rebecca asked. Thanks, Aunt Rebecca, but I just ate. I said. She nodded her head and went to greet
mama. Uncle Nathan passed by me and gave me a high five, and then a fist bump. I loved uncle

History of Malaysian Cooperation
A. Case Study
Tense ambivalence under Mahathir
During Mahathir s premiership (1981 2003), Malaysia enjoyed a cooperative relationship with the US
on economic and security fronts. Politically, however, there has been much tension between the two
states.
On the economic front, the US has been one of Malaysia s most important trading partners. In
Mahathir s final year as prime minister, the volume of two way trade amounted to US$34,352.5
million , with the balance of trade in Malaysia s favour.
Additionally, Malaysia has traditionally relied on US foreign investments, particularly during the
former state s rapid economic mobilisation from the 1970s to the end of the 1990s. Malaysia, a former
colonial state which inherited a dwindling, natural resource dependent economy from the British,
achieved unprecedented rate of growth under Mahathir s developmental strategy. Malaysia s economic
development achieved its zenith in the 1990s, hailed by the World Bank as an `economic miracle in
the developing world. During this course of development, the US played a pivotal role via its foreign
investments. For instance, US investments in Malaysia tripled between 1990 and 2000, from US$1.5
billion to US$6 billion, of which 57% was in manufacturing, 21% in petroleum and natural resources,
and 22% in services and related industries.
In terms of security, Malaysia under Mahathir has seen much cooperation with the US in matters of
counter terrorism. Malaysia had become a vital partner in

Masoretic Text
Archaeological evidence within the past several years has convinced many contemporary biblical
scholars and historians that the early tradition of recording history of the oral presentation of biblical
text eventually became a major part of the written contents of the Old Testament. The transition from
oral to written occurred, around 520 to 320BC, following the Judeans return to the Kingdom of Judah
from the Babylonia Exile. The Bible is taken from the Greek word biblos or book and became the
foundation of Judaism in the Old Testament and Christianity in the New Testament. Both religions

The True Hero In Spider Man
There are all types of heroes all over the world. A hero is defined by the choices they make and the
things they achieve. Spiderman is a hero like no other. He wasn t always Spider man, he used to be a
young teen named Peter Parker. Peter lived a difficult childhood because he was an orphan who was
very timid and shy. He was also very smart but he often got bullied. He lived with his aunt and uncle
in New York City. You could also describe him as a geeky science nerd who consistently seeked
attention from Mary Jane, who he crushed on since they were six years old. He lived an ordinary life
and only really had two real friends who were Harry and Mary Jane. Who would think that Peter
Parker would undergo such a miraculous transformation and become the supero that he is. He was
blessed with the superpowers but yet cursed at the same time. It brought moments that caused him
hardships in his life and he had to cope with them. Without a doubt Spider man, is a true hero that
undergoes an epic journey.
In Spider man, the patterns are very similar to those of the hero s journey of motif. The call for
adventure in Spider man starts when he goes on a field trip with his high school. They visited a
genetics laboratory. While he was taking photos in the laboratory, he was bitten on the hand by a
genetically engineered super spider. At first he didn t think anything had happened because he didn t
notice any sort of reaction but when he arrived home he passed out. His hand was

Society In Lord Of The Flies Persuasive Essay
Being silenced from sharing your thoughts because of how people see you, is one of the worst things
ever. As a hispanic student, the product of two immigrants, I know exactly what that feels like. When
assumptions about a person or group people are not questioned by a society, they are more vulnerable
to dysfunction. In Lord of the Flies, a group of English boys from a boarding school are left stranded
on an island when their plane is shot down amidst the commotion of the world war. The group of
various aged boys, are forced to make a choice between Ralph, the fair looking boy, or Jack, the head

Besides the fact that the boys on the island think of Piggy in only one way, they let it continue and don
t do anything to change their mentality. At another confrontation between Jack and Ralph, Piggy
stands up for his leader, which earns him a punch in the stomach from Jack. Then, Jack [stands] over
him. His voice [is] vicious with humiliation. You would, would you? Fatty! Ralph [makes] a step
forward and Jack [smacks] Piggy s head (Goulding 71). Multiple times, Ralph acknowledges Piggy s
strengths but does not stand up for him enough. Piggy becomes the punching bag for the rest of the
group when they are feeling uneasy. Groups who assumptions are made about also become a sort of
tool to make the rest of the world feel better about themselves. Stella Young reveals that for lots of us,
disabled people are not our teachers or our doctors or our manicurists. [They re] not real. [They] are
there to inspire (Young). Assumptions made about people with disability many times have to do with
them not being able to live a normal life like anyone else. What we don t realize sometimes is that
there are people like them working all around us. But the assumptions grow and do not change in
schools because rarely are staff members with disabilities seen working around with students.
Inspirational speakers with disabilities has become an expectation, which stays

The Harbaugh era is officially underway. Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh captured his first
victory as Wolverines head coach with a 35 7 victory over Oregon State Saturday afternoon. Had
Harbaugh dropped his initiation in Ann Arbor, Maize and Blue fans may have been seen shopping for
Scarlet and Grey. Ok, that s probably a stretch, but Harbaugh s first victory as Michigan s head coach

Learning for the Cuban and Nigerian Revolution
For developing regions, Latin America and Africa are a few of the focal countries to analyze civil war
onset and for future preventions. Cuba, now a communist state underwent political turmoil from
leaders like Fidel Castro to achieve its present government. Nigeria, a prominent oil powerhouse also
faced ethnic conflict stemming from its diverse population. Both countries are still susceptible to
future conflicts, but learning from their own history could easily prevent it from happening.
Cuba: The Castro Revolution

casualties at the cost of an insurgent victory. The Cuban President at that time, Fulgencio Batista was
ousted and replaced with a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If Raul Castro is not able to alter their policies on fundamental freedoms and arbitrary imprisonment,
the citizens of Cuba could easily organize again and overthrow this regime.
However, Cuba seems to be sending mixed signals to the international community because it recently
gained a seat in the United Nation s Human Rights Council. This could potentially be an example of
an inside spoiler where countries sign onto agreements, but fail to follow through with them
(Stedman). Cuba needs to alter its priorities if it ever wants the U.S. embargo removed to stimulate
their economy as well as instill basic fundamental rights to it citizens. Regardless, history often
repeats itself and Castro s leadership does not seem to be changing its socialist practices and might
soon fall victim to another government takeover.
Thought it is unlikely for Castro to change the economic stance of his country, the U.S embargo on
Cuba proves a serious issue for Cuban citizens. A lack of basic technology, open trade, and resources
from the U.S. leaves citizens dissatisfied with the government. The 50 year embargo has failed to
pressure the Cuban government and has instead harmed the people of Cuba. Though it s uncertain who
will succeed Raul Castro, it is likely the embargo will remain in place, but as long as Cuba fails to
meet the conditions set out by President Kennedy to shift its alignment

The Rights Of Gay And Lesbian Couples
A Right to Love
Most people feel that Government rights should automatically be granted to U.S. citizens. An
upstanding citizen who pays their taxes, serves their community and abides by the law should be
afforded the rights of an American. However, not all citizens are afforded equal rights. Gay and
lesbians are consistently denied rights that are typically taken for granted by the average American.
Specifically, gay and lesbians couples are denied the right to marry even if they are upstanding
citizens. They are held at an unfair disadvantage solely because of their sexual orientation. This
discrimination must stop because gay and lesbian couples are law abiding citizens too, who should be
afforded the same rights as heterosexual couples. One common problem that plagues gay and lesbian
couples that are denied the right to marry is their inability to claim their partner s social security after
he or she has died. The Human Rights Campaign, which work to achieve equal rights for lesbian, gay,
bi sexual and transgender people, is supporting the effort to attain survivor benefits for domesticate
partners. They believe, Any alteration to the Social Security system must include partners of gays and
lesbians in its definition of survivor (Survivor Benefits 1). Currently, there are no programs that give
homosexuals survivor benefits like the ones that are provided for heterosexuals who are married or
divorced. Gay and lesbian partners are not able to claim benefits

  • 2. Rydth Essay THE MERGER OF AIRTRAN BY SOUTHWEST AIRLINES:WILL THE ORGANIZATIONAL CULTURES MERGE? Southwest s merger with AirTran, valued at over US$3 billion, makes Southwest the fourth largest American carrier. The merger increases Southwest s presence in a number of major cities, most notably New York (LaGuardia) and Washington D.C. (Ronald Reagan National Airport). Thanks to AirTran, it now flies into the coveted Atlanta s Hartsfield Jackson Atlanta International, the world s busiest airport, along with a number of international vacation destinations such as Aruba, Puerto Rico and the Bahamas. Southwest has grown organically, acquiring only two other smaller carriers Morris Air and Muse Air in the 1980s. This has made it easier to maintain its ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... . . This is a very different approach, taking thousands of AirTran employees, dumping them into the system and hoping it works. It s a pretty risky move, says Peter Capelli, a Wharton management professor in 2010. Cappelli adds that airline mergers are always difficult because integration has to take place while a carrier continues to carry out complex operations. Thousands of employees can t easily be put through an orientation program in the merger s short time frame and the information systems supporting the complex operations of two airlines can t be easily changed.23 In November 2011, Southwest Airlines more than 6,000 pilots and AirTran Airways 1,700 pilots overwhelmingly approved a plan to combine the seniority lists of the two carriers, with five out of six pilots voting in favor.24 The personnel systems have to be modified to reflect the new seniority and pay systems. The disparate cultures of Southwest and AirTran are also posing problems for the merger of their online reservation systems. Southwest currently is planning to switch from Sabre or Amadeus to better accommodate merchandising and international flights. AirTran s reservations system vendor is Navitaire.25 AirTran and Southwest have diametrically opposed views on distribution through online travel agencies. Southwest usually sells its tickets via telephone or through its Web site whereas AirTran prefers online reservation systems such as Orbitz and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Issue of Gun Control Legislation Essay The Issue of Gun Control Legislation One of the most controversial issues in our society is gun control legislation. Violence associated with guns is increasing every year and something must be done to stop it. Gun legislation varies in every state. In some states gun policy is stricter than in other states. Gun legislation should be abolished in favor of federal gun legislation. To analyze the problem with gun violence today you must understand the gun laws that are in effect. The gun legislation in the United States are mostly based on a state level. One federal law for example, prohibits the manufacture of all plastic guns. The federal government tightly restricts fully automatic guns. Manufactures stamp ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The death rate with gun violence is somewhat uncertain. About one in seven gunshot wounds known to police result in death. However, this doesn t count all of the injuries not reported to police. This means that the actually rate is lower than the one mentioned above. Gunshot wounds are more likely to result in death than those inflicted by a knife. The knife is the weapon considered to be the next most lethal. One of the common question among the American public is , where do criminals obtain guns? A recent survey asked many criminals this very question. Obtaining from friends was the most prevalent answer. This was about 40%. Off the street was second with 14%, followed by gun shops, which was 11%. Other sources included pawnshops 6%, fences 5%, and family members and drug dealers 4% each (Wright,1986). It does seem very easy to get gun by this study, but it is hard to stop them. The handgun is the favorite among criminal activity. Criminals usually prefer a handgun with a short barrel (Shields,1981). This is because it s extremely lethal and is so easily concealed. When it is stuck inside the belt, only the grip or ... • 4. Long Distance Moving Is Not Only Hard On The Body, And The... Long distance moving is not only hard on the body, and the mind, but the soul. That cloudy Thursday, I felt my soul beginning to crumble. I laid back in the passenger seat of our modest rust colored Toyota, barely listening to music playing over my headphones, mostly wallowing in my gentle throbs of weariness, and a stressful fear of prolonging the journey. I knew my mother felt the same way, from the way she clutched at the steering wheel, and from the way her sunken eyes looked for the next turn. It didn t help me, the fifteen year old city kid from Chicago, when we pulled off the Ohio Turnpike, to a smaller highway, to an even smaller one, to then exit next to a rusted out truck stop, and onto a small two lane road. Finally, my mom ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... No distant wail of a siren. There wasn t even wind that night. Just plain, unadulterated, silence. I was alone with my thoughts. It was depressing. It was exciting. But most of all, it was frightening. It wasn t like this small town was any sort of final destination, I told myself. I had invested a lot of hope into the idea of a fresh start, but not all of it. I had that desperate teenage need to escape, and thought of Ohio as a place to get away. I thought of it as a new life. A place to get away from the cramped stairwells, up to cramped apartments. A place to get away from the display case of city life. A place to get away from the clouds, those clouds that filled the sky. And so what? I told myself. So what if this isn t the promised land? So what if you didn t know what you liked about that place until you lost it? It s still different, and It s still not a final destination, right? The next morning I awoke to find two men standing in the driveway. Their bloated stomachs hanging down over their belts. Torn, Beat, and ragged baseball were caps cocked back upon their not so closely shaved heads. The older one of the pair seemed to be letting himself in the front door, while the younger man examined the Toyota suspiciously. Mom. • 5. Human Social Animal 1333 words essay on Man is a social animal Bharat Kumar Traditionally, there have been two answers to the problem of the relationship between the individual and his society. One is the social contract theory and the other is the organic theory, which we have already discussed in detail. According to the social contract theory, society is the result of an agreement or contract entered into by men who originally lived in a pre social state. Thus society is made by man and he is more real than his creation. On the other hand, according to the organic theory, society is an organic. Just as the parts of an animal body are functionally related and none can exist isolated from the rest, similarly, the members of society are functionally ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... No one can become a human being unless he lives with society. Apart from fulfilling the basic needs of a man, the human society satisfies his desires, dreams and aspirations by the solid co operation of his fellow beings. In society, man can easily fulfill his various needs such as education, protection, nature, comfort, opportunity, equipment and so on. The self preservation desired by every human being, is a need which society alone fulfills. Therefore, it is not due to his nature alone but also due to his necessities, man lives in society and regarded as a social animal. 3. Society determines human personality Lastly, man lives in society for his mental, psychological and intellectual development. Society both liberates and limits our potentialities as individual and moulds our attitudes, beliefs, morals and ideals. It preserves the culture, customs, folkways, mores, norms, values etc. and transmits it to succeeding generations. One of the important functions of society is to preserve the social heritage, which is intimately related to human beings. The social heritage helps his personality to develop in society. It is no doubt that the personality of an individual cannot develop at all in the absence of social heritage. Thus, society not only moulds and directs human personality but also determines the personality of the individuals. The personality, which is the total quality of individual s ... The play was put together and made possible by many students, professors and many others who dedicated their time and donations. I was fortunate enough to have been able to work with Sara on the props and the paint portion of the stage and set up. It was a great experience working on the props and seeing it all come together and being able to see it all finally being used to create the vision of a producer and director. The Mexican ponchos went well with the theme because it was a Mexican journey that Alicia went through so the ponchos played a significant role. There was also Alicia, she wore regular skinny jeans with a denim vest and a t shirt. The clothing Alicia wore was casual clothing, similar clothes to what I wear. The clothing Alicia wore was a good representation of a Mexican American because she did not understand the traditional Mexican wardrobe, the casual clothing she was wearing is more of American attire. The puppet who accompanies Alicia on her journey, Ramon, was wearing a traditional mariachi suit. The character also had a mustache and a trumpet, they were two good characteristics because when most Mexicans think of a male mariachi, he has a thick mustache and the instrument he plays. Some other costumes that are were significant were those of the Elvira gang. The Elvira gang was made of a group of three girls, the tree girls wore black clothing, wore their black hair teased enormously high and wore a lot of mascara. Kate Chopin uses words like depressed (56), hopeless (56) and despondency (p115) to describe Edna, the heroine, in The Awakening. Coupling this description with Edna taking her life at the end of the novel and Chopin s own inferred demoralization, due to the almost universal aversion to The Awakening, the natural conclusion is that it is a work of great personal demoralization , (Companion 5) as Michael Levenson states. Mrs. Pontellier s soul is shaken, causing a seismic shift in her, but she is not the only one affected as all of the partygoers were moved by Mademoiselle Reisz s performance. This alludes to Kate Chopin s desire to inspire her audience in the same manner as she purposely chooses a piece of music by the renowned composer Frederic Chopin. She suggests that art is an important aspect of an awakening as it has the ability to touch the soul. In the next scene Mrs. Pontellier suddenly learns to swim and Chopin describes, A feeling of exultation overtook her, as if some power of significant import had been given her to control the working of her body and her soul. (p27). Mrs. Pontellier now fully awake realizes that she has control over body, she has autonomy, and Chopin emphasizes her individuality by referring to her as Edna. Her awakening is important because in 1899, women did not have autonomy; their main purpose was domesticity. The church and patriarchy reined over women who were the property of their husbands and considered inferior to men with no sexual desire. Chopin presents Mr. Pontellier as a perfect specimen of late nineteenth century patriarchy. Some women thrive in this culture as Chopin demonstrates through Mrs. Ratignolle. However, for many women, like Edna this world was suffocating. The natural reaction to this oppression is feminism, but Chopin does not preach feminism in her novel. ... Domestic violence has many names. Spouse abuse talks about abuse from a husband/wife or a boyfriend/girlfriend. Domestic violence is not just physical, but is behavior that is intended to control another person through the use of verbal assaults. One big cause of domestic violence is stress. Things such as being unemployed, drugs, alcohol, or little money can cause a person a lot of stress. Also, it can sometimes be due to the abuser being abused themselves in their childhood. Statistics show that many people who are abused in their childhood become abusers themselves. When domestic violence occurs there are many types of abuse that can happen. The first kind is physical violence. Physical violence includes anything that is intended to physically injure the person. The second type of abuse is emotional abuse which is consistently doing or saying things to emotionally harm another person. The third kind is sexual abuse. Just because someone is married to someone doesn t mean that they have to have sex with them. Even though these are different kinds of abuse, all of them are harming in their own ways. People who have been abused think that there is no way out. They continue to put up with the abuse and eventually learn to deal with it. • 17. My First Day Of Math I am writing to you to talk about the complicated semester I have had in Math. Our first day of math we talked about the Handshake Problem. We needed to figure out how many handshakes there would be in our class of sixteen students but we could not shake the same hands twice. Our class got in a circle began to model out the problem by shaking each other s hand but then we had to figure out a formula. A common method that I have used throughout the whole semester is making a table. I made a table and was able to make the conclusion that the number of handshakes were increasing by counting numbers. By that time class had ended and for homework we needed to come up with a formula for this problem and reflect. When I first tried to find an equation for this problem is 16 x 15 = 240. This equation did not work because I was counting for shaking the same handshakes twice. If I would have divided it 240 by 2 I would have got 120 and that would have been the correct answer. After careful discuss, in class and out of class thinking our final conclusion was that the formula was n(n 1)/2. N is for the number of people that come into the room. N 1 is the one less hand the next person will have to shake from the previous person. This equation worked for any number of people that needed to shake hands. One of the goals of the class is to acquire numerous strategies for approaching and solving unfamiliar mathematical problems and the habits of posing new problems. My professor ... There are convenient and comfortable sources such as tradition, authority, and common sense to consult for an answer to a question (2014). Unfortunately, these sources are unreliable and include biases of some degree (2014). To answer a question using valid and reliable data, the scientific method is utilized (2014). In traditional educational research, there is the application of the scientific method to educational topics, phenomena, or questions in search of answers (2014, p. 6) which aims to develop new theories or to discover generalized principles and is performed by outside experts (Efron Ravid, 2013). Once my research plan is approved and all requirements have been fulfilled to continue this DP (University of South Carolina, 2015), the next stage is acting (Mertler, 2014). During the acting stage, I will collect and analyze data gathered during the implementation of my research plan (2014). Once the acting stage has been completed, I will consult my colleagues in the STEM department and the students who participated in the study to develop a plan of action (2014). The development of a plan of action will provide strategies to address the identified PoP (2014). After a plan of action is developed, the reflecting stage will include sharing and communicating the study s results with the participants as well as the faculty and staff of OCTC (2016). However, one could argue that there are better ways. That debate rages on between sportsmen and environmental conservationists alike. There are two big organizations when it comes to conserving waterfowl and wetlands, Ducks Unlimited and Delta Waterfowl. Both groups are able to raise millions of dollars for waterfowl due to their enormous amount of members. Ducks Unlimited tries to revert these watersheds back to their natural levels by draining the wetlands that have extremely high levels of contaminants in the water. They then clean the soil in the habitat and find a way to decrease the extra contaminates from entering the watershed. Next they will pump healthy water back into the wetlands and install buffer strips that act like a filter that will catch the extra nutrients and silt. The restoration of grasslands and forests is extremely important when it comes to breeding grounds for ducks. Dabbling Ducks use the tall grass found around ponds or in marshes to build nest and raise their young. Diving Ducks will flock to flooded forest areas and build a nest inside the holes of a tree and they will raise their young from above the ground. In recent years these habitats have been reduced significantly for farming and other purposes. In order to restore these habitats Ducks Unlimited must first purchase the land from the landowner. After they have the rights to the property they will begin to make changes to the area so it can be a more suitable ecosystem for waterfowl. In order to stop illegal immigrants and drug smugglers from entering the U.S. from Mexico through the border, a wall must be built. In previous years, many countries and territories around the world have attempted to build walls, and many have had very much success. For example, Most of the walls built after World War 2 and the Cold War still exist today. There were a total of 110 walls built between that time period.
